Young Amish Male on Crashing His Buggy, Dating & If He Will Return To His Colony
80m 23s
Timmy, a Minnesota-born Amish youth, recounts his transformative "Rum Spring" journey—a period of adventure and cultural immersion that began at age 16.5 and spanned over eight months, during which he traveled across the U.S., meeting diverse people, experiencing extreme activities like skydiving and skateboarding, and observing Amish life. He describes the community’s tight-knit traditions, including strict rules on technology, dress, and social behavior, such as shunning for rule-breaking. Despite these rules, the Amish have modernized slowly, adapting to changes like reflective safety gear and phone use—though such tools are often hidden or limited. Timmy emphasizes the value of hands-on living, from building barns to riding buggies, and shares how encounters with outsiders, like Afro Man and CJ, expanded his worldview. He reflects on personal growth, balancing curiosity with community expectations, and acknowledges his parents’ initial resistance to his outside experiences. While the Amish maintain strong cultural identity through shared values and traditions, Timmy’s journey shows how exposure to modern life—through social media, festivals, and physical adventures—deepens understanding and challenges long-held beliefs. Ultimately, he sees the Amish way of life as rooted in simplicity, resilience, and deep familial bonds, even as it evolves in response to societal change.
This is almond milk and don't ask how they get milk out of almonds. What do your parents think about all this? They don't really like it. What's like something that you saw and you were like, "Yeah, I'm ready to go back." Women going to beach in the underwear. My mom told me to stay away from English girls. Yeah So like do you think your plan on going back? Do you think I should start a podcast? I think you'd be really good at it. I should. Ever since I saw you on Theo Vaughan, I was impressed. Oh really? I don't know. I just wing it and yeah I think you're just really good at answering questions exactly how people ask them. You don't feed around the bush or you just say it how it is. Oh, yeah, that's the way to do it. Yeah, and CJ was thinking about not coming on because he didn't have pants, but I know he's got lots of good questions for you. He's just walking on his underwear to me every day. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to CJ. Happy birthday bro. All right, we're rolling. I like to you change up CJ Bro, I just felt like, you know, if everyone else is gonna be Dressed appropriately. I'd better be you know. We got our new Amish friend Timmy here. Oh, Timmy's actually from Minnesota But you've been on a crazy run the last like what six months It's coming up to eight months, but eight months. So you're on rum springer right now. Yep You went on a field on podcast and then after that moment You've just been hitting every spot of the country meeting every single person that you can doing experiencing every single thing that you can do and I feel like it's only right that being you're a Minnesota guy and you've been a ceboy's friend for a long time. Yeah, we had to get you up here Oh, I do. It's a pleasure being up here like seeing Tim what you guys all have and we guys have all built pretty impressive You know, it's not a it's not a barn that we built and then moved. Yeah We've been trying to figure out why they do that. I've been wondering the same thing because you know our community We just built the stuff where it belongs Match and trying to move like like a 60 by 80 by 20 shop. Yeah, it seems like I mean, I how many people they got they got to have like 200 guys So you haven't ever been a part of that when you pick a building up. No, we've never done that dude If you ever do call me because I want to be a part of that. I mean, there might be some language barriers, but oh really? Yeah, what language you guys speak Pennsylvania and Linky Dutch Mm-hmm. So it is it's fully a different language. It's like a trim and dialect. It's what it is Yeah, that's why I feel like a little bit of an accent. It's not as strong as it was like a year ago But yeah, I thought the same thing I watched some old videos of you and it is a lot stronger than than now Yeah, I've been hanging on English people too much Can you explain to me what rum springer is is that what it's called? Yeah, it's based about what we call it It's a young by like what it is where it's like when you 16 1/2 you got like a part where like most kids They just kind of stay at home and like they do like crazy stuff like what kind of crazy stuff hardy hard Oh really? Yeah, just fine or what you could say that and so go to fair stuff like that and then me and my buddy It's like eight months ago when the skydiving. Yeah, that was really the first time both of us were on a plane So that's how you started your rum springer. Yeah, that's a crazy Yeah, yeah, he first plane flight and then didn't even have to land. Yeah, just went up. It was definitely crazy Like five seconds before and after was like I bet I mean like thinking what did I get myself in you not really? I was like thinking man This like usually when you fall off a building like you hit the ground like really fast, but you know from experience or what? No, I had some buddies like like fell off of stuff and doing some roofing. Yeah, I mean, I've almost backed off a roof one time when I was like when Shingles on alignment on the shingles. Yeah, I was backing up stippling going back going back and all of a sudden that she's just right there You're too focused on that work. Yeah So how long is rum springer last like it varies in the person like you should start around 16 and a half like you just kind of You still live at like in the community like at home and stuff really I've been honest and that was 16 and a half But I never really did anything crazy that'd big to differ you've really been doing Until like it started like a year ago. Well Two years ago now these these two girls like they let me like drive their car that that was kind of that was kind of the first bite of it Right really started to like go out and see more stuff that has there been anyone in the in the history of the Amish that have had a crazy Or rum springer than you it's a great question. I mean you're really making waves here depends what you call crazy I mean my dad the crazy stuff - more legal stuff than me though. Oh really it's all on video in the last nine months You have I've seen you just hanging out with so many different people. Yeah, I mean it I'm very very grateful for like people just like they sent me like a DM on Instagram and it's like a couple months later I'm out there at their place and it's essentially what happened here my strong connections I think it's like the mic a nose. Oh, yeah, it's a mic or mica either one. Okay either one. I like Mike better I have a little bit of respect. He really evolved into Mike later and he just makes more sense Yeah, a lot of strong connections - yeah, so that's that's the craziest thing like I like I said that just as a joke But like it's very true. Yeah, I mean Afro man. I saw you and Afro man hanging out the other day We're making a song together Amazing so so who are all the people that you've hung out with in the last nine months any don't can see you guys West Afro man Weston Champlain. I said Champlain Matan Evan Yo, yo, yo, who are you up on stage with that girl country singer was a Corey Kennedy? You know, that was the first time I was in like open stage. Yeah, that was funny. That was nerve racking I didn't know what to do. I felt like I got my legs and toes crossed It was definitely crazy to see and it's always I'm always very very grateful for people always wanting to like Bring me out and like show me these things which is I don't know I can't think anyone enough. Do you think you you were an adrenaline junkier you're just falling into it because I feel like Everything you do you're getting this crazy new experience like we just went back and we showed you the skate park Yeah, you're like while drop in which is normally like not something that somebody would try on the first day So I mean I thought like I saw Mike doing it was like if I watch him close enough I feel like I could maybe do it. He would do you know I went out a couple times He wiped out three times and said I'll do it again once my leg stops hurting My leg is my leg is messed up and he kept saying look looking at it like and twisting it and I was like did this dude just Just throw his knee out or something and that Ken was obviously Ken was there extremely quick He had a brace ready and then he had ice and he was like get a brace. Oh, yeah, I didn't even know It doesn't look well without it. Is that something you can do in like oh? Yeah, like like if we have if there's something like life threatening Like we go to the yard like one time we're cleaning up at home and it was a ball bat laying in the yard And I was gonna bat the ball and my brother was like right behind me I told him hey back up a little bit. So I don't hit you He backed up a little bit, but apparently not far enough because I swing and I like swing all the way around and I just Hit him right in the head. That's exactly what I was younger. I did the same thing I got two black eyes for my sister So I was a guy with the bat luck. Yeah, no, he had to be he had to be like taking to the yard and stuff Oh, my like last time was at a hospital was when I was like 12 or 13 when I rolled the buggy For like that's crazy one morning. We're going to school and This horse I don't know like certain type of moons. I feel like you like got scared as stuff easily in the ditch You're going up this hill to this day. I still don't know what it was what was in the ditch going up this hill like which is They're going to school on a Friday morning. That was nice out the sun was out and then all of a sudden this horse just chumps I couldn't grab the range fast enough. He chumps like turns all the way around rolls the buggy And me and my brother get throwing out I think I got drunk a little bit because I felled in my back and had like a question But you know what the crazy part is my brother had like bruises all over his legs Like he wasn't damaged at all like he wasn't like he didn't some guys can just take a fall Yeah, but yeah this horse like as soon as he rolled just ran down the hill Halfway through a fence and then stopped so you and your brother. It was just you two in the buggy. Yeah, you're going to school Yes, you just parked the horse and buggy at the school or does the horse walk the buggy back home? Oh, no like we need to we need to we need to ride to get back home So there's like barns little barns at the school that we park your horse there Yeah, we don't hitch our horse and just bring it into a barn and a feet there too for them Do you have like time during school where you get to go out and like take care of the horse? It's like the part. No, we just leave the horse out there. They're good to go for it Yeah, do you guys like modify your horses like the other kids in high school? Like you got like no like are people checking out like their hooves and shit? No, I don't think so. I mean sometimes sometimes to race like we're really supposed to erase the school Yeah, one time there were like three three buckies side to side the way Three why is it yeah, and not is that down like a public road or yeah, this is on like a black top So fast as you've ever gone in your buggy last winter we clocked 21 Pretty quick. Yeah, let's move in pretty quick those things got to get kind of unstable at that speed No, they don't know they don't like the horse like a horse like I think I know some horses they can get up to like 28 like you really make them run like Gary when you're in there going that fast. No, it's only when you turn Sometimes they're going down a hill and then you turn like that can be a little bit iffy but
she doesn't tip. I don't know if I should say this, but like first time I was on the buggy when my grandma climbed on like, I was like savanna-sized. I was scared the buggy was going to tip because like there's like springs on it and the buggy was like that. Yeah, yeah. I was like, and she thought it was really funny that I thought he's going to do it. But yeah, my grandma's pretty cool, I'd say. Did you, if you modified your buggies at all or you're just like, I haven't, but some of my buddies have to put like underglow. I've seen that. How was that allowed? I don't know, we just kind of do it. Oh, what are the rules of the omniscient? Like, you're not supposed to have technology or anything that is unsustainable, right? Kind of, yeah. Like the rules, like the one thing about the rules is like, you never really explain why they are. They just are there. And like, that's I think that's why like a lot of them kind of break the rules. So do you, oh, because they're like, well, I didn't know. Yeah, yeah. I didn't make sense. Nobody told you, but you're heaven might be omniscient. But you're like, explain the rules when you're, uh, when you're like joining the church, you're like, oh, so the church tells you the rules. Yep. Is there like punishments for breaking the rules? Like, if you, if you, if you like break too much, they'll put you in a, put you in a section called things, the roll it where you basically have like a unique get better within this time or they'll put you in the bond with this shining and like shining, that's like, if you leave the omniscient, you're still part of the church, you'll get like shunt forever. But like, if you, let's say you do some, then it's against the rules and then you, uh, you just get shunt for a little bit until you're doing better. So they make you sleep in a barn? No, they don't. You're not supposed to like transact or deal with like, or even eat at the same table or you shunt. Really? Yeah. Like have to sit in a different place in church or is it normal in church or is it when you're eating? You're not really supposed to come to church when you shunt. Oh really? I think so. So then when do they let you know that you're like good to come back? Or they'll give you like a period and then it'll come around eventually. Hmm. And who shuns you? Uh, basically the community. Oh, all of them. It's like a vote. Yeah. But like, mainly it's the elders that like make that emotion. So what, like what's uh, shunable offense? Uh, let's say you go party, party too much. I'd say like go through like concerts and stuff like that. Too much? No, you can do it a little bit. Even like if if you let's say you go once and like where it gets around and stuff or like even ride with an ex-amish, like that can be that can get you like shun for a while. Or ride with an ex-amish? Yeah. Like you're not really supposed to ride with an ex-amish. You're just not supposed to like co-hers with the ex-amish. No. Right. But in our community like it's it's been it's a coming around like our split now like now it's kind of now it's kind of a lot less down there right now. And what do you mean by split? Like there were a disagreement and this works in two-paramage to where it works is like if there's a split like then anyone can walk out like without getting shunned and stuff like they can still be amish if they want but they're just not a member of the church anymore. But yeah, that happened because they were arguing about too many reflectors. Some like a lot of other like smallsters. Yeah. Like on the buggy. On the buggy. Yeah. They're like you got to just run known reflectors. Be risky. Yeah. That's like sometimes when you're I've been with a driver and like when you're driving through a dark and sometimes the buggy's hard to see. They're always hard to see. Yeah. Just sketchy. You don't realize that if you're just in the buggy. Right. Right. No. True. You just feel like everybody's whipping by you. Yeah. It's really close. So there's a split in the community over too many reflectors. Yeah. Is it is that kind of just showing like like people are tense right now or like I would that seems like a small thing to like more than that. Sure. More than that. Yeah. It's it's been a it's been a long list of other things but that's that's one of the reasons they were just arguing about like some of the younger ones. Like they were like man we need more reflectors on these buckets and the older ones like you're good. But like I feel like you do need more reflectors on the buggy's. Amish or not. That's you know how society is you know things change. Like sometimes rules that were in place before are no longer. Yeah. Absolutely. I feel like the amish like in the last five, ten years like if modernized a lot like a lot of them have phones for their businesses and like some of the strictest communities they're not really allowed to have that stuff or they'll have a phone shack at the end of their driveway or something like that. Well it seems like I guess just society in general has changed the most in the last five to ten years. So it's like for the last 100 years how much has normal civilization versus amish civilization been that different. Not crazy them out with like technology and all these different things right and then last 30, 20, 10 years like things are really advanced. Oh yeah. The funny thing is my grandma she actually went to public school for a while because like I think around that time was like something with the government they were like amish fighting it for like something about only going to eighth grade or something and amish started having their own schools after that. So I've never set foot in a public school. And so do the amish know like what's going on and like the government or politics or any of that? Like do they care? I mean like not really like here and there like when 9/11 happened the drivers told my dad and stuff, stuff like that like with some major happens here about it. Well like do they care who the president is? Not really. Do they vote? I mean last term they did like I don't know I don't sound an hour community did. And which way do the amish usually go? Republican or Democratic? Whatever, whatever's the most conservative if you should. Okay. I think majority of them voted for Republican last time. Mm-hmm. So you guys have to pay taxes? Yeah. Like if you file them anyway I don't sound don't. Yeah. I think that's been an age old thing like an amish. In my opinion they don't need to pay taxes. No I don't know. Only when doing like you know they selling meat, selling cheese, selling furniture, sure then but between themselves. So you say and I don't have to pay taxes? I don't think you have to. If the government comes after to say money Mike told me I didn't need a pay. Yeah. Yeah. I mean another thing is like once you're trying to church you do get an tax exemption from like social security and kind of care taxes. So like that's like those are like the only ones. Is there a colony tax or like like part of the community? H.O.A. I mean if someone like if let's say someone's barn burns down like the whole entire community will throw in money or like build build a new barn. That's what it's all about. Yes sir. The craziest thing is like building a barn one day that's that's pretty impressive. Oh you guys building one day? Like well like the concrete's laid out and then everything's planned and then the shell of it just goes like the wood, steel all that stuff that goes up in like one day. You guys are incredible builders. Why are you guys so good at building? I don't know it's just like if you go to work you go to work. I think it's similar how you said you grew up in the rules you don't really like learn the rules they're just there and then they're like a part of you it's same for probably building. Like you just end up doing it and the next thing you know you're you're a full-blown carpenter. Yeah I started doing it when I was like just before I turned 14 right after I got out of school. This might be a stupid question but do you get paid? I mean so I have it easier than my dad did but my dad and they're still like some I'm rich families that practiced this like they don't get any money until they're 21. So they work for free but the money goes to the family? For the parents yeah it goes to the parents but my dad my dad didn't like that when he was growing up so he gave me a little bit of a break but I worked until I was 16 for a dollar an hour and then whatever whatever else like that I got went to my dad. Wow and so were you getting like normal wage and you were just getting a dollar like were you getting like $15 an hour and you were just getting a dollar? I'm not even quite sure. I was just happy when that like did your dad start driving a Rolls Royce? No he didn't. I guess a buggy a nicer buggy like you were working hard and he was caching the checks? Basically yeah but at least I didn't have to work until I was 21 from my dad. He would give you give you the money once you turned 18. Like all the money I made? Yeah no. Well you were just paying your way. I was just paying me like a dollar until I was 16 and then I got I started getting $17 and that's like $17 an hour. Nice. After that. Yeah okay what do you do with your money and like what do you buy or? Like well now it seems like I have a little bit of a saving problem I think. Really? Like like going places and like buying things. Yeah yeah like what are you spending your money on now? And then Bill and then just going around the place I guess. It's amazing how it can just disappear isn't it? Oh like where does it go? I don't know. I think somebody sneaks in. That's what I say it out from underneath your bed. Yeah like the bangs I don't know. Do you guys believe in banks? Yeah we have like bangs checking accounts all that stuff. Because Mike didn't believe in a bank for a while but that was for other reasons. Yeah I mean you could I guess stack your money at home. Like that way under the bed. That's good yeah. His backyard was filled with coffee cans. Full of coins or cash? A little both yeah. What makes it up? What's it look like if is there like people that have more money in the community than others? Oh definitely like some of them like a lot of a lot of them own businesses but like usually the ones that don't have as much money they you should don't work quite as hard. I'm like there's a lot of homage that I have a lot of money because they own businesses and they just what do they spend their money on? What's like rich now? Like land mostly land. They got a bunch they just keep getting more land. Yeah or cattle. I put money back into the business I think. Yeah what's like a benchmark of or like a goal of like oh if I have a million dollars or like what is because like I guess in normal civilization yeah people are like I want to be a millionaire do the homage say that and feel that same. No not really I mean we don't really take pride in like the money I make that we make I guess like just kind of
Some people make more money than others and there's some guys in in a Part of the community that are like big dogs with all the land like the more land the bigger the dog Yeah, some of them that's like quite a bit of land. Yeah, so like another thing like this happened We're like either their dad bought it and they got passed down and they have a lot of land - so how old are you? Take a guess. I guess 20 just shy of 18 15. What what no, you know, you went on rums I just turned nineteen that I actually yeah, so you've been on it for two and a half years I don't know how to do math, but I think so really yeah, so like you think you're are you planning on going back? I don't know. It's a very hard decision like one thing like it's it's fun to come out here But like always like like to go home - yeah, there's no place like home. Yeah, definitely especially your family You know you can't replace those type. No, definitely not like you can't just grow another builder go another family So like how much time do you have left or do you decide that could you run another five years? Not five years Maybe like a maybe like a year and a half really yeah, but I don't my parents like they they joined the church when they were like around 21 so when you say join the church Are you not a part of the church right now or like how you get a baptized in and then like if you want to get married in Like in the armies you have to join the church So you can't get married without like And what does that look like finding like a girl? I mean you just find one in your community if they're not cousins or anything But like I'm kind of out of luck here like everyone I went to school with was my first or second cousin right except the teacher You know, but she's a little bit older. Yeah, maybe you find one out out here and then you bring them back My mom told me a stay away from English girls. Yeah Some of them going I thought they went through the beach in their underwear, right? I asked around a little bit and turns out They're swimming suits. Yeah, I don't know what they look just like underwear. Yeah, scan the list Yeah, some some women these days. That's what they're not all like that. No, I don't like plenty. Yeah plenty of good girls That's what I like I think it depends where you look like in the city It might not be the best idea to look in the city Where'd you see the girls in the swimsuits? There's so many different times like it's got starting to get that twinkly look it right No, I was wondering if he was like running Miami or something. You've been all over the country I was I was there for five hours one time where Miami. Yeah, yeah, you get an education there You know what I went there for like the I was down at Danny's place and Someone that work with Jake Paul there like someone on the Deodorant company company They said something about coming to a fine. I was like I didn't even know what's going on And I was like that would be fun. I've never been to anything like that. So we went there got on the floor I got to see the fight. It was crazy like who's who's fighting? Anthony Joshua. Oh, you went to the Jake Paul. Yeah, Joshua fight on the floor on the floor I was we were sitting up in the stands. I was asked one of my One of the guys that brought me in here. I was like sir any way I can go down on the floor and there's like We'll make those look if we can find some workouts like went down there and I was texting Hayden Deegan because he was down there too, and it's like you know come over here So I got to meet him and his sister very very there awesome for a guy that grew up with no phones You might be the most connected person. I don't know it. You named up seven crazy people in that sentence really Yeah, it's cool, but like that for you, they're just normal people which is cool. Yeah, I think everyone's like a person and They are yeah, the more people that you meet the more you realize. Yeah, you skateboard pretty good. Thank you Yeah, money money Mike is like a step above most you're like if he sometimes I'm a walking meme No, he's just moving different. Yeah, you saw him drop in You saw him drop in like that most of those guys you just mentioned they can't drop in and mission and yeah You're you're three drop-ins ahead of most most gang. Yeah, and I wiped out every time. Yeah, that's all right Little side note congrats Ryan on getting your motion back. Yeah, I'm back. We're saying in the last video that you had it So I was stoked. It's great. Yeah, people were pretty fired up on your own. Yeah, motion. Yeah, are you familiar with motion? Not really no, I heard of it. I've heard of it. It's like if you like you've got connections, right? Yeah, it's like you got connections and like when you walk into a room people are like Do you feel like people when you go out in public look at you differently? Like you feel like people are always looking I don't know It's like they've seen me before or is that I'm on which like it does like either way like they like look at me a little bit I should have clarified yeah like before you were you now We're kind of a lot of the world knows you like just when you were just growing up Amish like you feel like people look at you differently in public. I don't know I was always like in our area so maybe maybe not but like when I went down to Mexico and I was like What's I four or five because like one of my uncles like he gets was it spleen or something? He had to go down there for doctrine. Oh, so I don't know like I was really too young to remember like remember really anything How do you get down there if you couldn't fly? I train Take the amtrak from a wine owner and then go all around You had a bad spleen - some like that. He got like something. Was it appendix or like Well, it's cheaper down there - and they can do stuff down there that they can't do in the US Yeah, so did you guys when you're down in Mexico? What are you doing your family doing? Like are you joining a little bit going to the beach? Yeah, I went to the beach Which is hung out at the hotel went to the hospital? I don't know. It was like a week or so I think that we were down there because I don't mean you take a train. You better stay a while Oh, it was so much fun in the train like I remember I only remember some stuff like every time we went through the tunnel in the Rocky Mountains I always went under the table at the dining dining class thing. Well, sometimes you got to hold your breath That's what I've been told to go. I was telling my breath. I just went underneath it. It's a long tunnel So like when you're a kid and you then go out and you stay stay in a hotel room Are you kind of thinking like dang why don't we live this way? I don't know that never came to my mind It's just like wow. This is crazy. And you got a TV to watch. Yeah, would you watch the TV? Yeah, we would like you're not supposed to but I don't my dad every special every time you like someplace he turned on the TV. What would you watch? I don't even know ridiculousness That would be a great show. Yeah, but I know like so when I live to see so when I was like I was like six I Lime sees got so bad I couldn't walk anymore so my dad had to take me into the ER He had to carry me get a driver carry me in there and then I think you turned on Amish Mafia I think it's cool that you listen to that song because it really is a good song It is a good song. Yeah, and like I hope if me and Aframan remake it I hope it turns out good because I don't know I don't really know how to like rap or sing What would they so they brought you the ER you took like probably some I don't know what I took But they gave me something that I went to see for a couple hours and you put like a thing over my mouth Oh, and I was like out, but then I woke up at like two o'clock I think and then I was in the hospital for the next like two weeks. It was right on my knee What yeah, cuz you see so what the best thing to do is like when you have lime seeds is take to take out and put some like Like herbal we call it t36. It's from Aliluga, but take it out and put that stuff It like it takes away to like the like this infected. I think really support right there Yeah, and I didn't do that. I must have I think I was watching myself and took it off one time Cuz mom told us don't take them off come to me then I'll take it off for you But I didn't do that and then like five months later. I could barely walk anymore But how old are you 12 six? I was six at the time. Oh six. Yeah, when you guys get sick like that Are you taking nutrition or do they I'm assuming they don't give you like tile and all or aspirin or things like that I mean like what what kind of like health protocol do you take? I'd like my mom makes this I'm not I'm gonna quite sure what it is But it's tea honey. I like like stuff like that and they they give it to you Everything natural. So full of herbs they go glass of milk. Oh, yeah, I bet you guys's milk is so good I'll do the raw milk is the best thing dude. You know what the funny thing is I did not know what raw milk was until you knew I got other types of them here. You're like what the heck with this always we always call it store milk and the milk Oh, yeah, yeah, but then I get a phone and like six months later These guys are talking about raw milk raw milk way to go. I was like what's wrong. That is milk to you It's just milk. Yeah, and then they're like oh, yeah, like that stuff is raw milk I was like did not know cuz sometimes you have a glass down at the barn Just milk a little bit of warm milk into the glass and drink it. That's that's really good You like warm milk like it out the other straight out of the cow. Yeah, that's really amazing Yeah, cuz then you see almond milk and you're like how the hell they milk and those things Yeah, yeah, they have almond milk. Yeah, they have oat milk and soy milk and almond milk I don't really know these others coming from Have you had almond milk before I don't think I have no Jack can you go to the store and grab some almond milk? You actually want me to or yeah, there's someone or called Dalton and have him grab some. Yeah, where's Dalton doing curious because if you I mean you're used to Obviously just straight out the utter. Yeah, here's what you think of almond milk. So okay, so you get a phone What does that look like like how do you go out and get a phone my first phone? I had a buddy gets did you so you had to sneak it like a little down by the river Like a little bit. Did you keep it at home or yeah? When I had at home at the beginning when I had like my parents it took it away from me, which is that's a universal thing That happens to me. Oh really? Yeah. Oh, yeah I do my mom took my phone all the time, but I deserve that I was being bad. Oh, man We just got spanky. So we were about it really yeah spoon wouldn't spoon leather strap what something you did to be bad You remember one like mouth and back to mom with one of them I think that'll get you
-You guys have soap in the mouth? -You guys have soap? -No, you don't want to, but you're bad at my dad sitting back there laughing thinking about it. -That's too bad. -He's like, "Can we still run that?" -You put soap in his mouth? -Yeah. -Really? -Yeah, I want to try some. -They would do like, "Okay, we'll get some soap." -Hey, Jack, grab some soap, too! -Just take a bite. -I had a bite at crayons. -A couple guys on the team have been eating crayons. -I had a what? -No, we're at the gas station so we got some Dr. Pepper and I saw some crayons. -The crayons look good. -Yeah, they do make those things look way too appetizing. -They do, yeah. -Actually, a problem. -Braided here told me, like, the blue ones taste like circles. -Really? -Yeah, like circles. -You know, that's, that was my next question. So how do you know these fellows back here? -So, Keegan right here, I met him at like a birthday event thing and then we've been buddies ever since. This is like seven months ago, I think. -Really? -I've known him and he like, if I need to go somewhere, he like picks me up, takes me places. -Rolls call on all the local Teslas. -Oh, that's not mine. -That's that is. -Oh, that's your other buddy. -His buddy rolled coal on Ken when they were rolling into town, not even knowing that it was Ken. -Oh, no, we know. -Ken knew how they didn't know. -They showed up, drove by Ken in his cybertruck and just dumped a load of coal on him. -Windows fully down just enjoying the weather. -That's funny. -That's funny. -Dude, I didn't even see the girl outfit. -Oh, I changed. -That's what you have to identify. -Okay, so yeah. -Oh, yeah. -No offense. -Too much attention to it, but it's his choice. -Okay. -So you get a phone, you're sneaking it. Do you download Instagram? Do you download YouTube? Like what's the first things you do when you get this phone? -How do you hear about it? -The phones? -Well, no, like the app. Like what to get? -Well, I've seen like, like sometimes English people that are like not amish, like showed us things. -It kind of grubbed you. -One thing, if you're ever on the group of amish kids, pull out your phone, and all of a sudden you'll be surrounded by them. Because that's what I used to do to my cousin. Like he's completely like English, because so his parents found out they were having him. So they're like left to amish. -Really? -So he's like completely English. And he's my double cousin. Have you ever heard of that? -No, what's that mean? -I mean, basically siblings marry in each other. But it's not like that. It's like two families, and Chris Carr's applesauce marry into each other. Brother and sister from this family, and brother and sister from that. -Oh, I'm interesting. -Oh, it's not like the incess stuff. We don't do that stuff. -So you download YouTube. How do you come across, see boys? -It just popped up. -And you were like, yeah, like this. -Like the cars? Like I don't know. For some reason, like cars, tractors, semis. Like those always like fascinated me. Because at school, we used to get those catalogs, that where they sell like arch equipment, trucks and stuff like that. Bring that to school, and then draw a semi-at school or kind of. One thing we were not allowed to do at schools, like drive people. For some reason. Like one time I was kind of mad at my teachers, so I like drew like a person on a boat. I don't know how, but teacher found out somehow. And then she got mad at me. Then told me to erase it. -Like, why, why? -To be honest, I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's like, so it doesn't like lead to like all of a sudden, you're like drawing like weird stuff, I think. It's almost like forbidden to draw it. -Did you just draw your teacher really fat? -No, it was just like that. -It was a dude on the boat. And then she told me to erase it. But I was like, man, I don't want to erase it. I did pretty good on this dude right here. So I like went over it a couple times before I erased it. So it was still there, but I erased it. So like phones aside are there photos? Is there any photography? -Is there any illustrations that exist of like elders or any photo? -I know my parents, they have some printed pictures. I think, I don't know like who took them and stuff. Like there are some of those. I know my parents like keep them locked up in the same way. -Yeah, I know Amish people don't like to be photographed. Or necessarily approve of it, but it's cool to have a photo of yourself. -Yeah, it is pretty neat to have like, because sometimes like when I was younger, the people taking pictures of me, then I got to see how I looked when I was younger. -Do you guys not have mirrors? -Oh, we have mirrors. But like when you're young, you don't remember how you looked. -Oh. -So. -Now you got a whole vlog. -Right, a whole vlog? -We match you up like, let's say I go, like I joined a church and like don't do this and stuff anymore. Matching up my kids will think. -Yeah. -Well, they won't see it. -We always say the same thing, too. -I mean, your kids won't see it until they're old enough. -Like, do you want room spring? -Yeah, unless someone will show them. They're like, "Dad, what were you doing?" -Oh, so do you feel like that's going to be tough then to like hold like a standard in the family of like following the rules? -To be honest, I don't know. Like, I definitely have gotten to my outlook because like, I do it here and there. But like, all I care about is if I have fun and like, we'll worry about that stuff later. -Yeah, you're living the most of your room spring. That's for sure. -And do you, the rest of your friends that are on room spring, do they want to join you on all these things that you're doing? -Oh, yeah, I've invited them a couple of times to come. -And do they come? -Yep, nice. -I wish they would have came today. -You said they were going to come, but they had-- -One of my buddies, the one that watches you a lot, I told him, "Hey, if I ever go, come up here. I want to bring you with. I know you like watching them." And then you're like, "Man, that'd be a lot of fun." So then I call them. Apparently he's trying to church. And then he had something else going on this weekend, like, yet to help somewhere. So, and then I called my other Amish buddy. He had the same thing. -Really? -Yep. -So, they're kind of dropping. Your Amish buddies are all exiting room spring? -No. The other Amish buddy that I called, he's not like-- he's kind of wild, too. -Oh, really? -The kid that went with me skydiving. -Oh, yeah. -What do your parents think about all this? -I don't-- they don't really like it. They don't like that you're on this podcast, probably talking right now. -They just don't like the idea of like me doing all this stuff. -Yeah. -Like the crazy stuff, or more so, just like the-- -Just being out here all the time. -And being out in the world, you know. -Well, yeah, because there's one thing to go out there. And then there's another thing to do what you're doing. Not saying it's any worse. It's just you're really putting yourself out there. No, like, I don't think I can like realize how big I'm doing. -Yeah, you're pretty big, man. There's no doubt about that. -I'm not fat though. I'm trying to gain weight though. -No, not that. -How much do you-- how much-- how much are you buck 30 wet? -Pretty much, yeah. -I'm like 130. -130. -I wish I was like 145. -That brings up a good question now. How do you get so good at social media? Like, dude, you put it on. -I don't know what on Theo and then disappear again, but like, you're pretty dang good at it. -To be honest, I don't even know. -You don't even care. You're just doing it. -Natural. -Yeah, you're in natural. -Yeah, you are. -Some people got it. -I don't know, like, I think-- I've been told I'm a fast learner when it comes to doing things, because I'd see what other people are doing, exactly what they're doing. -Yeah, that's the easiest way to figure things out. -I was trying to watch Michael over here, trying to watch how he doesn't, but you did pretty good. I know you fell, but you did pretty good. -Yeah, you did. -Okay, I don't know. I didn't make it so. -Dude, we need to get you a pair of DCs. -What's that? -That might have been his actual issue. -Yeah. -What are you rocking for footwear here? -They're like obos, like hiking shoes. -Are you able to accept gifts? -Yeah. -We should get them a pair of brunts. -Oh, that'd be awesome. -Oh, yeah, I love a pair of brunts. Brunts and me a pair of boots. -Oh, yeah, you're right there ahead of us. -Yeah. -So you are able to accept gifts. -Yeah. -Okay, cool. -I remember sometimes there's an English one of my dads, but it was like, he came around Christmas and he gave us some stuff like candy, all kinds of good stuff. That was always like a happy time. -Well, we might have a gift for you later today, so. -What kind? -I can't tell you, but it's that's a good one. -Check, make sure that you can accept gifts. -Oh, yeah. -You were very excited when I told you that we were giving you a gift. -I was, yeah. -And most people are excited. Maybe I'm just tainted by a couple of my friends' reactions to receiving gifts. Just two of them. But, you know, a lot of people are most people are excited when they get gifts. -Oh, dude. -How's that truck treating you? -Good. -Chino truck? -Yeah. -Yeah. -What do you think of that? You would rather have munchies, though. -Yeah, I like munchies. -Munchies wrap. -Yeah, they're pretty good. -He sees Evan's Cheeto dirt bike and he goes, "That guy just loves Cheetos." I go, "Oh, he loves them." I go, "And then he goes more of a munchies guy." -Which has Cheetos in it. -Oh, he just loves Cheetos. -I like a little bit of it. -What's like the most eye-opening thing that you have experienced as far as just like you saw it? -Couldn't believe it. -And you were like, "This is messed up." Like, something that you saw and you were like, "Yeah, I'm ready to go back." -I don't know if I want to say it. I've made sure I say it. -Yeah, I think you got it. -Out to BTQ. I was like the surprising part. I'd say very, very surprising to me. -Can we say that? -Don't look at me, I'll get sprained. -Oh, wait, sorry. -It's okay, it's okay, it's okay. -He's used to it. -Well, it's definitely, like, what some people do, like, almost wear no clothes sometimes. -I've never seen my mom wear anything else other than a dress. -So, what do they do when they go? They can't go swimming then, huh? -I like the girls. They rarely ever go swimming. -Oh, like, I got swim chunks enough. You and my buddy's got swim chunks. -There you go. -Go down in the nice little hole in this creek that we go into and swim there. -Dude, I will say this about the Amish clothes. -Wow, it's so free. Like, it's so, like, it's just, like, loose and it breathes and like-- -And cover it up from the sun so you don't get sunburned. It's actually, it's really good. Like, guys, no one should do it. -Well, what was the name? -It's so yeah, I can explain this to me. Like, these are--
I've never seen pants dress pants. I think they're there's like steam punk pants I don't know. I think we're just doing our best. This is the best Amazon had to offer. Okay, cuz I've never seen pants like that You buttoned it right. Yeah, I don't know if you've buttoned it right. What do you think of the fit? It looks good. I think yeah, like it looks more like all order on me She's like all order actually like more modern than where it's in trooper Yeah, you knew your stuff cuz this was a man and I had yeah, no like that's one thing like When I see a certain type of image I can like there's so many different communities so many different rules It's it's impossible to keep you even track of them What but like like close you can pretty much always like yep, that's either men and I'd or I mean that does almost look like a new Order on me chat, but I mean it could be man and I all right here. We go All right, I'm going to end out dude So we're gonna do a little little milk test here. Timmy was telling us that One of the biggest eye-opening things once he started seeing what the civilization was doing out here was The milk that we were drinking and so we asked if you drink silk almond milk and then we got oak milk first time Oak milk What is that you like you're about to find out are you guys okay 50% more calcium? No, I don't drink that stuff actually like almond milk. It's everyone's gonna call me a pussy But all kids good, but that's maybe what you shake it up then make sure you shake it up You know some people have to drink that because they're lactose intolerant. Some people Ken's I am you supposed to drink it, but he You think it's normal for a guy to have to go to the bathroom three times a day you have to go to the bathroom Number two number two my mom always told me it's a good thing like if you go once a day But you save toilet paper if you skip a day And then Ken could never save toilet paper two a day minimum I think he's just looking for an excuse to get out of work. You just curries off to the bathroom It's honest, but does he build houses tour? No, I think God he doesn't build houses all right, buddy This is almond milk almond don't ask how they get milk out of almonds It smells a little bit like almond - I think is it usually sweeter? He's like cereal milk. Yeah, right it's like it's like no, it's almost like too sweet. It's just chuck it off Take it in take it in joy. I just see you know switched wrong. It's a thirsty good down the hatch tastes like see Yeah, like I like raw milk better. Okay, I'm over right. Well hold on now. We got oh we got another one Yeah, we got oh milk. This one's this cereal milk another. It's gonna taste similar to cereal milk You can use both of these in cereal. Yeah. Oh, man. I don't know That sounds like a recipe for these faster. Oh and diabetes Is my good. Yeah, tastes like oats. Yeah What it is that would make sense it tastes like yeah, it just tastes like oats, but milk. Let me get a taste of this I really I've never had oatmeal. You want a taste? Yeah, all right. See what Mike thinks here. Oh it tastes like peanut butter Kind of interesting. I don't know if it's got like a peanut butter. It tastes like oats. I think so are you eating cereal when you're in the community? Yeah, we see you guys can eat like lucky charms if you wanted all lucky I used to love lucky charms really so you guys can eat stuff like that and now we have stuff like that like my mom Goes through like Walmart and all these like once every two months once every two months. Yeah, so she's loading up Shop sometimes it's almost too shopping cars, but most times it's just one But that was supposed to be so much fun going to the grocery store. Yeah, it was like a treat you could look at all the toys What about the mall? I always see people at West Acres mall. Oh, like I was the first mall I was out was like nine months ago. I think something like that going to your first mall. Yep, going to my first mall What do you think about the hooderoids to be honest? I don't really know much about the hooderoids like that's our local And they're hundreds. Yeah, yeah, so I've been there a handful of times and it is interesting because they they do use electricity Okay, and like they so they'll use their money that they make building buildings and stuff and selling meat and cheese And I saw they have this insane Facility to melt cows like state of the art Wow, which I just couldn't believe and they I don't know how that works. They pull their money because effort. They might pull it I think so I think they do right yeah, they do so you know these insane like the concrete buildings they build They use some pretty crazy equipment to do so. Yeah, the reason I ask about them is um on this pod before We had my grandpa Ron on any he used to like work with the hooderoids and like sell them clothes, I think and Or sell them material to build clothes and he said that when he was there they had like this huge feast form Where they all came together and they you know all the wives made food and kind of did like a buffet style feast And then they had wine. Yeah, he said he got pretty toasted off the wine Pretty strong apparently. Yeah, I don't know maybe but um he said it was like the best food he's ever had Oh, yeah, it's like homemade food like made by my mom grandma like nothing be set the other thing when I was younger like Want to make Donald's that was like a big treat, but now I've been there a couple times. I don't really like it's not pretty crappy. Yeah, it's not good for you Especially if you're going from eating like real food like what you're used to to that you're like God, it's not very good. What was what's that dish with like milk in the bread and the meat? Oh, don't put bread in there. No Oh, yeah, you you know, like no no bread like I know some people like some of us do that like put the bread in there But it's called coffee soup coffee soup. Yeah, my mom fee Yeah, it's kind of like that, but it doesn't really have like coffee taste to it. It's like something you get from Starbucks I think I don't know I watch the uh on michael and tiktok make it. I don't know how that works But you know she just sprinkled a little bit of instant coffee like the smallest amount just like a teaspoon to like a cord in the warm milk Yep, because you have to have to milk warm sort of and then a slap a meat in there That's for like later. So you prepare the milk you put sugar instant coffee in there and then after that you put it on the table and then if you Separate pot with meat in there and then you pour the milk or the coffee soup into like a plate or a bowl And then you crunch up crackers in there until that the crackers are all soggy and they soak up most of milk Then you put meat on top. See chase liking it sounds good. I would love it. I ever since I saw it I don't want to try it. No dude. Do you know that that's actually my first cousin that you're talking about really? Yeah, so she's on tiktok too. She's a ex-harmish, yeah Okay, yeah, so but she uh like wears yeah, she's so dressed. Yeah, run the blood run the blood I know and then naturals. Oh my mom's cousin. He's also got like 200,000 of so on tiktok. Wow. Yeah, that's crazy. Ex-harmish, too. So I don't know how it works man. Some people are just natural. Yeah. I don't know how it works We never really never really talk to each other about social media ever. Yeah, right? So runs in the blood So you see each other since like yeah, I was I visited her like earlier. You're you still staying contact huh? Yep And and they're not it's not like a we can't talk to you you because your ex obviously. Oh, no, I don't look it at that way It's cool. Yeah, so like if you at the end of rum springer decide I'm gonna go out here and Try doing something new. Yeah, are you gonna be able to talk to your family? So my my parents will let me like that That's another thing where it varies in the parents like my dad's side They're way better now actually, but they're still a little bit iffy about their kids coming home that I've left omish So by like on my mom's side, they were like that too in the beginning But then they came around to and they're now we have like family reunions like all the family comes down to their place for like Christmas or Thanksgiving It varies a lot on the family like that's that's a big part What do you think would we be able to come to the colony and would we be able to film a video there? Would that be a no go like no my parents don't like like that film and stuff no outside no no filming But we could go there and just check it out sometime maybe I'd have to talk to my parents. Yeah, that's okay And can you explain to me like Kind of map out what what your community looks like like are the houses the same like How close are you to your neighbors how big of like a parcel is like the community is there like a Gathering grounds that everyone eats at no well I've noticed a lot of people think like the omish communities are like this one big black now some are like most of them are Just scattered among like regular people. Oh, so yeah, like our closest neighbors are like English. Oh, okay So then a couple miles on the road there's interesting my uncle is there and so that is different because like the hunter at colony is it is a colony It's all on basically one plot of like oh wow. Yeah, yeah, like most of the houses two most of them are like pretty much the same Black roofs white sighting and the inside looks roughly the same too. Okay, that makes a lot more sense that you would take Buggies to school. Yeah, that it's not like a community. Yeah, because most times we actually walk to school because it was just across the field And my dad actually grew up across the field and you would walk across the field up hill both ways Sometimes it was cold like my one year was freezing out to cover up like this hold on to your hat Like go into school. Oh, yeah, do you have winter versions of these hats? Do you have others like there's wool hats? Okay, but I don't know. I like wearing stocking caps when it's really cold same Yeah, like wool hats, but most times I just wore a straw hat either
that or put like a stocking cap on top of your hat. Like that's kind of more allowed than, or it used to be, but now like a lot on my stitches, we're stocking caps in the winter. But I used to be like a thing, like just put the stocking caps on top of your hat. That was allowed. - They were getting too sick. - Gotta wear a hat today, it was warm, so you don't get sick. - Yeah, I don't know. I mean, how, wait, how would that help? - Oh, you just, (laughs) - Contain your heat. - Well, I agree, it's a myth. - I think that's a myth, yeah, I think that's a myth. - Yeah, I don't think so. - I've got my ears really cold couple times, and I never got sick. - Oh, really? - Yeah. - He's tougher than the cold. - I don't like the cold, but if the cold comes for me, I'm ready for it. (laughs) - I've won every time so far. (laughs) - So far, so good. - You ever done those ice plunges when you'd get in the cold water? Like frozen lake? - No. - It's a good thing you came this time, 'cause we would probably be running one otherwise, I mean, that might be what it's like if we go out on the water. - Are we going out on the water? - Have you ever been on a boat? - I have, yeah. - Have you ever surfed? - Nope. - I've got you to be good at surfing. - I bet you would be good at surfing. - You'll figure that out real quick. - Yeah, 'cause Keegan here, he told me to like, snowboarding. - Oh nice. - I did these for like the first time. - Yeah, I'd say you got the coordination for it, but the water will be cold. Oh boy. I mean, it's got a tough enough. I guess. - Yeah, it's a good point. - So out of all the people that you've met, non-cluding us, you know, obviously we just met. This is the first time, we haven't really done much, but who do you think was your favorite to hang out with? - That's a hard one. - 'Cause you've hung out with a lot of cool people. - Or one that just really stood out to you. I'm thinking Danny Duncan. - I kind of figured that. - 'Cause I got to Chambacar, I've always, always, always wanted to Chambacar. Can we Chambacar today? - Yes. - Yes, of course. - Yeah, absolutely. - That was so much fun doing that. 'Cause like, sometimes the neighbors that pick us up from school to babysit us, like they're in English and stuff and they put it in the house, turned on the TV. - Duke's a pastor? - Oh, yeah. - Which is sister, our parents came home. - That's funny. - Duke's a pastor. - The English people that are neighbors, they're just helping out the family. So they come pick you up in a car, bring you to the house, just set you down in front of the TV. - Yeah. - It was like a, that was like a big treat. - Yeah. - Like having them come pick you up. You're like, you get into a car and you go to school. You're a high roller. Have you ever been in a drift car before? - No. - We're like, well, you're not gonna either. 'Cause mine doesn't run. - No, wait, who was this? - Wait, who? - I'm giving you a ride in mine. I just gotta bolt my passenger seat down. - Oh. - Wait, who ran the Hooligan in the tree again? - Oh. - That was the Hooligan who ran the tree again. - Is that all you call it? - Hooligan. - Well, it's a, it's a, it's a Hooligan corn, but Hooligan is what's on the. - Hooligan. - Hooligan, yes. - We don't need to talk about that. Yeah, you know, blacked out. - Dude, there's a song that they play at weddings that goes like that. To the left, to the left. (laughing) - Yeah, if you go blacked out, you should have done that, yeah, to the right, to the right. - Yeah, that actually, you were going to the right. You were doing that. - Yeah, well, you ever just done something and just blacked out and just, it just didn't go well for you. - You're trying really hard to make something happen and then it goes all wrong. Yeah, when I wrote the buggy, it was kind of like that. - Yeah. - Yeah, you rolled the buggy, I mean, yeah. Yeah, you know how it goes, you just black out. - The fact that it just happened, you rolled the buggy is quite crazy. - Yeah. - I'm sure you're not the only one to do it, but it's not easy to do. It's not a super high speed rig. No, I mean, you can, if you drift the wrong way in the wheels catch, you can do that. - That doesn't surprise me because I don't trust horses and then people are always like, "No, no, the horses are just fine. "You just have to know how to handle them." And I'm like, "Do what happens if they get spooked?" What happens if the horse blacks out? Boom, next thing, you know, it rolls your buggy. Like it happens, horses are. - It varies on the horse and I think, it varies on how much trust they have in you two. 'Cause like, I'm the same way sometimes, like, some days when I'm like, "Man, I wish I wasn't dealing with them." Other days, I'm like, "Man, that's great." - It's like a pack. - Do you ever ride the horses with the buggy? - We rarely did. - Why, why is that? - I don't know. I know some other Amish kids did. - Seems like that's almost a little bit faster. Like, on and off, you don't have to. - Not as much a bring around with you. - Yeah, but we have a horse right now. I want to train that thing to ride it. - That'd be cool. I kind of want to do it 'cause, see if it bucks. - You're a wild man. - I don't know. I mean, I like doing fun stuff. - You ever rode a bull? - I have actually, yeah. - I am not surprised. - Of course you are. - Down at Dale Brispy's place. - Oh, okay. - How'd it go? - Oh, that was a lot. I forgot about that trip for some reason. That was a lot of fun too. - Another guy, legend. - Me as a legend. That was a lot of fun to do. I kind of want to get on another one that bucks a little bit more, but I feel like just like to escape or once you're actually there and ready to do it, it's scary. Dude, Ryan rode a bull. And he, the guy before him got knocked out by the bull. - Cold. - Cold. - And they had to like, you know, - Gross. - Multi-operations. Yeah, broke his collarbone too. Multi-operations until this dude wakes up. He's laying in the middle. And the guy getting Ryan ready was like, "All right, you ready?" And I was like, "No." - Bam, you ain't said even shown up yet for the other guy. They just dragged him out of the ring and let him down next to the fence. - In the whole time, the whole time they do that, they're putting the strap on these bulls and putting around their balls. - And they just do it around the balls. - I don't know. - I'm just just, they're like growing area. - Oh, whatever. - You know, it's getting them ripped up. - I don't know much about rodeo though, but they were wrapped up. - Well, I'll teach you about skateboarding. Ken will teach you about rodeo. - Okay. - Ken, you know a lot about rodeo? - Not enough. - Okay. - Not enough to teach anything, but you learn more. - These guys, I was at the rodeo with my buddy Tanner, like they wanted me to pull some ropes on balls. Do you know what that is? - No idea. - That's basically when you're in top of a bowl and I think that they grab on, they have to, like they go like this and then they pull it really tight. - Oh, then they release it and they let it buck. - Yeah, and then they grab the rope and then they wrap it around their hand and then hold on to. - Yeah. - They go, "Whew." Dude, isn't that insane? - It is, yeah. - It's crazy, bro. That is the craziest thing that I think any human can do. - It is, definitely. Like, what's crazier than hopping on one of those bowls? - Right, and bare-brank, runk. Like, have you ever seen that? - All right, well, that might be crazier. - Our buddy, Blaine, does it? - Yes. - Crazy. - That is crazy. It looks like, it looks so easy, too. But it is. (laughs) - The way they do it, there's one of those once you get there. - Yeah, it's hard to figure it out. - Yeah, 'cause I've seen people do it that are like, first or second time. It looks like they're like, they're not in the rhythm. They're not doing it right, but it's just way harder to do. - Dude, I knew a guy that rode a, an elk. - An elk? - Yeah. - So bad. - I don't like a pet elk or just hopped on a horse. - Oh, like a wild elk. - Snuck up on a horse. - Rode up to the guy that got arrested. - Should've. - Or like, he got fined, or something? - I don't know. - I can't say his name. - Not this guy. And then I also know a guy that roped a grizzly bear. - Oh my goodness. - That is crazy. How does one do that? - Dude, big balls. - Indeed. (laughing) - You know what I saw one time? So I saw this video. I thought it was really funny. Like, black bear comes up to his guy's tree stand. He starts climbing up to it. And all of a sudden this guy sprays this bear with a bear sprain. - Oh yeah. - The bear just pulls down the tree, goes running and goes right into another tree. Like, you ran the head first time. - Oh yeah. - Oh yeah. - See, now that is what we call blocking out. - Yeah, he must have blacked out. That bear blacked out, he ran into a tree. I know how it feels. Have you guys seen the video? I don't know if it's like a game warden that captured a bear and went out into the wild to release it. And then he releases it. And it runs out like 10 yards, stops, turns around. And then runs back, right back at him. - Yeah, I've seen that. - Ryan, can you pop it up? - Oh, here we go. (laughing) - Oh shit. - Oh my goodness. - Oh my goodness. - Oh my goodness. - Oh, the driver was in the way. - The driver was in the way. - That was a good catch. - Oh, he was almost-- - Holy crap, they weren't planned on that. - Yeah, he would have been perfect. - The thing was, man. - Do you guys hunt? - Yeah, like deer and stuff, yeah. - Really? - Nice. - Man. - Yeah, that, that was almost a battle without him. - What do you got, do you use like muzzle loaders or normal guns or archery, some do bow-hunting muzzle loader and also shotguns? - Nice. - Do you have to get like the same kind of licenses or are there some kind of like exemptions that you don't, like you can just hunt whenever? - No, no, no, no. You can't not, whatever. That's called doing illegal things. Pouching. Pouching, I don't even know. When you shoot a deer or whatever out of season. - So do you get, like would you get shunned? Like say you do some illegal poaching and you get in trouble with the local DNR. You get shunned for that? - No. - Within the community? - No. - No. - So okay, so it's just the community's rules that you get shunned for. - Yeah. - So it's not actual like breaking the law. - No, usually if you break the law, it's usually like the cops problem or something. - Right, it's not the communities. - No. - Do you have anybody's that have ever went to jail? - Amish buddies. - There's one guy. I don't know if he ever went to jail, but I know he got a minor. - That'll get you. - So is there a drinking age? - We have to follow the same rules. - In the community, you have to wait till you're 21 to drink. - You're supposed to, yeah. - But you can. (laughing) - I feel like everyone in here is guilty of illegal drinking. - Yeah. - Yeah, 100%. - Ben's extra guilty. - Not me. - Not you. - I got a minor. - Dang. I heard it's a really good idea to like, drive while you're drunk. (laughing) - You want a free ride to jail? - You heard wrong. - Yeah, yeah. - Yeah. - Can you get a DUI in a buggy? - I think you can.
I'm not quite sure if you can or not, like, 'cause my body was on his, he was on the bucky when he got a minor, but there's like, I'm not exactly sure. - And so what exactly happened there? Did the cops pull the buggy over and he was drunk in the buggy, but he wasn't the operator? - No, like he, I think he was like on the bucky, but he ran for the cornfield, but someone had a cop knew his name, 'cause they had something going on back and forth, like we're gonna be four or something. - I don't know why this guy was like, he was offended. - It must be a slow night if the cop's pulling over a buggy. - Yeah, real. - Was it swirving? Like, that seems like it'd be like, the horse is about to prove it. - I think it was just loud music. - Loud music? - In the buggy. - Out of the buggy? - Yeah. - That's not illegal. - I don't know what it was. - I don't know what the cop must've been, either someone reported him or, like here and there, you have people that, even out there sometimes. Like, something off makes me part. Like, others. - It's crazy. - But at the end of the day, it does just depend on the cop, the cop didn't give him a DUI. It just gave him a minor. - A minor. - Was he the operator? Like, have you ever heard of somebody getting a DUI? - Well, he was driving though. Oh, he was driving though. - So maybe not then. - Yeah, but I heard this one cop say, the hardest thing to catch is a drunk English dude, in a buggy. (laughs) - Why? Just 'cause they don't go anywhere. - I don't talk to you anywhere. - They'll just go anywhere with bugs. - Yeah, they'll just swerve off into the cornfield. - Yeah. - Cornfield would. You can turn really quickly. - You can't really get maneuver on. - I mean, I'm sure you can cool it, I guess, but. - Yeah, usually there's no lights. - Oh, there's some. - Yeah. - But over in Indiana, in Ohio, in Pennsylvania, I think, like, dude, the Indiana, I mean, they got lies and plates. - Yeah, really? - Yeah, so now you can get your buggy like, input up there. - They're hitting them on those registrations. - Got to remove my tabs. - Yeah. - I don't know, like, our buggies are pretty much the same area that we're like, 30 years ago, yeah. - Makes sense, I guess, like, if a, you know, an Amish guy goes rogue and drives his buggy through somebody's flower garden. And it's like, well, who was it? Well, it was a black buggy. We need a little more description than that, sir. - Plant loud music. - Yeah. How many horses? - One. - One. - And so, like, if you're, like, high rolling in a buggy, do you then have two horses? - Like, you can put two horses in one buggy that you need a different, like, shaft for that. - Well, like, two cedars, a lot of two cedars, that have, like, one seed here and then one seed in the back. Like, a lot of those times, two horses, but you can also do that with one horse. - Like, have you ever seen, like, a limo buggy where it's got, like, multiple rows? - I like where you go in here. - 'Cause that would be a ball in here. - 'Cause that would be pretty cool. - I don't know what we could make it. - We got the three rows of Dan, or we go four rows. - Like, I've never made that. Like, what's, what is the, what is the, - No, what you could do, get, like, a, - Probably need big horses, though. - Oh, five stails? - Yeah, like, Clyde stails. You need harnesses, and then you need, like, a special, like, like, a stage coach thing. Like, you pretty much have a front end of a stage coach probably hooked up to your limo. That's what I would be guessing you would do. - So, like, what do families do that have, like, 10 kids? - Well, some, there's one family in our community that's 19. - Oh, 19? - 19 children, that I did. And how many bugs do they have? - I don't know, most of them, like, - That is crazy. - Well, but, like, how many people can fit in, like, a buggy? Like, you think that they would be, like, getting, like, a, - Just get a bigger buggy. - A bigger buggy, like, - That's what you like to do. I mean, like, if you really pack a buggy, you can get four people, but if you, like, really, really pack it, you can get, probably six. That's really pushing it. - But there's usually just ones parties when you only have one horse and buggy. - Or you can go on top. Like, you can sit on the top of the buggy. - So they got a pretty big house, then, how was all these kids? Or are they just piled on top each other? - Like, a lot of them share beds. - Like, what, little twin size beds? - Like, queen, queen? - I think so, yeah. - And how old would the parents be? - 'Cause that's big for a long time, yeah. - I mean, I think there's a couple, it might be some twins. I'm not entirely sure. But, like, that's, that's starting probably when you, like, 2021, going till they're, like, maybe 40. - What's the norm to start having? - Well, I mean, 19 years. - It's only 19. - It's a child a year. That's not even possible to start having. - That's not even possible. - It's just a thing. - A couple twins. - How old are the older people in the community? Like, is there some people that live till, you know, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 90? - Yeah. - If they're eating natural and staying moving. - Well, like, Dominic, like, we don't do any, like, exercise. Like, we don't stay active. - You just work in. That's your exercise. - Yep. - You guys don't live weights? - No. - So, like, what happens when someone, like, passes? Like, what do you guys do for funerals and, like, burials and stuff like that? - Like, we weight three days and then there's, like, a big funeral kind of, it's kind of, like, church, big funeral. - Everyone's so fun. - It's been a while since I went to one, but-- - That's good. - Yeah, but if I remember right, like, there's like a cloth here with, like, a bench and then, the body just lays there and then you walk past the seat and then later, they go into a coffin and then-- - Okay. - We have our own, like, cemetery, cemetery, yeah. - My older brother's actually in there too. - In the cemetery? - Yeah. - Like, he was only a lifelike seven months. - Hmm, sorry. - He heard that. - No, not seven months, sorry, seven hours. - Seven hours. - He was, like, born small or something. - Yeah, so-- - That's sad. - And I kind of took after him, like. - How many siblings do you have? - I've, uh, him and then two younger brothers, so it's small family. - And how old are they? - Uh, my brother's 14 and eight. - So, what do they think about you going on this? - Ah, I don't know. - I'm sure. - Like, you don't know. They don't really say too much about it. So, you don't ask questions when you get home? - I mean, here and there they do, but for the most part, no. - Really? They're not, like, what's going on in the outside world? - Yeah, it's probably 'cause I'm their brother. - You think that they would be curious. - Yeah, I would think so too, but. - Maybe they just know not to be. - Yeah. - I mean, you know, there's, you guys know what you know and don't need to know anymore. And so, maybe that's why they're not asking questions. - Like, I never really questioned much on the outside. Like, Tuesday, I still don't know what questions to ask. Like, there's, I just want to, like, see an experience. And then, maybe I'll have questions. Or if I'm doing it, I have questions. Like, women go on to the beach in the underwear. - Yeah. - What's going on there? - Yeah. - No questions for you. - That's a good question. - You guys girlfriends go to like, the beach in the underwear? - No, mine's not a lot. - Just kidding. - Ah, there you go. - Yeah, I guess I can. - Yeah. - It's probably so. - It's probably so, yeah. - Okay. - I have nothing against it. It's just like something new. - Oh, another thing is singing in the shower. Like, that was a big surprise for me too. I'm at one of my English buddies house and all of a sudden, I hear tunes from the shower. It's pretty fun. - It's pretty fun. - What? - I was a pricing too. He can does it too. (laughing) - Like, the fact of like singing is crazy? - I don't, he wasn't singing. It's just like. - We're all playing music. - I got a bump in while you're singing. - Like, a lot of the stuff that I see, it's like, very surprising, it doesn't bother me. - And do you dance? - I don't really know how to dance, though. - Do you wanna learn? - But if you wanna say he's a dance teacher? - What dance is do I know? She'll teach you. - Is it ballet? - Technically, yes, yes it is. But that's not what she'll teach you. - Yeah. - I'll teach you other moves. - Okay. - I heard something about a two-step. What's that? - A two-j-z? - Yeah, define two-step. - In what context-- - Did you hear it at a car meet? Or did you hear it at a wedding? - That's a dance, that's a dance. - It's a country dance. - Yeah. - Spenny will teach it. You know what I mean? - I do not as you step. - Yeah, there we go. - Yeah, spinning up. - Spinny dance, two-step. - What do you call him? Spinny. - His name is Spencer. - He actually didn't like that name, but we just started calling. All started calling him that and now it is stuff forever. - Can't just get a name around here. - Doesn't really matter if you like it or not. - What's my name? - Timmy. - Well, you might end up with a different name by the end of the weekend. I'm excited to see it. - CJ just acquired a new name. - Yep. - Bobby. - Bobby. - Yeah, Bobby. (laughing) - Big Bobby lotter, he while he owns a Buffalo farm. - You do? - 500 head. - Hey, that's pretty cool. - Just kidding. - That's my alter, you go. (laughing) - You can't hunt it. - He's a Buffalo. - I want to hunt your Buffalo. Are they Buffalo or are they Bison? - I was just kidding, but you know, Bobby, he's more of a, I don't know. - Big mint of his imagination. - Yeah. - But Bobby has a 500 Buffalo. - Ooh. - What else is Bobby have? - A lot of money. (laughing) - Cool cowboy hat. (laughing) - And he doesn't need to say much. - Yeah, he doesn't say anything. - Okay, his actions speak louder than words. - Yeah, that's a good thing. I'm ready to see Bobby. - Oh, let's see. - Bobby'll be out. - Bobby might show up. He's a lot cooler CJ, so this Friday night. - Gosh, yeah, I'm so excited for your birthday siege. - Yeah, are you gonna come to my birthday party? - What's your birthday party? - Today. - You're having a birthday party? - I mean, not much of a party, but we're maybe gonna go get pizza and have a beer. You can have the pizza, you're not old enough for a beer, but. - I'm not old enough for a lot of things. - That's sad. (laughing) - You know what, if you want a beer, you can have one. (laughing) - I'll think about it. - All right, yeah, fair enough. Well, is there anything that you want to experience while you're here? - Anything that goes up in the air has wheels. - Okay. - Dirt. - We can make that happen. - Yep, jump a car. - Jump a car. - That's what I want to do to jump a car. - All right. - We will make that happen. - Let's do it. - All right. - Dude, I'm excited. - Dude, I'm excited that you're here. - Oh my goodness. - It's been a long time coming. I've been seeing some fans who are like, "Hey, you gotta go to the sea, bro." - Yeah, we've gotten lots and lots of messages. - Which is really crazy, 'cause I don't know. I don't feel like anything special. I'm just another guy. - I mean, you are special, bro. - Yeah. - It's like a homecoming. You know, you're just being a Minnesota boy and us as well. - The only sad thing is we live like so far. - Kind of an opposite. - Yeah.
So maybe I need to move up here. Yeah, but yeah, we'll get you a spot anytime you want. We got some land in the back. You could throw up a barn. Oh, yeah. I mean, try to just build his own house. Probably could, yeah. Yeah, just stay in here for a couple of days. Ow, just bring some wood, build my own place. Have you seen the one guy on TikTok? I'm pretty sure he's Amish. But his whole stick is like doing things wrong. But he's like super jacked. So he'll be like up on the roof barefoot. And then he'll be like holding on to the roof with his toes. Oh, he's not Amish. No, I've always wondered. I've seen those guys, like their actions-- I'm his hand with nail gun. Yeah, what? Not Amish, I don't believe. No, I've said he's shooting him. No, he's like always pulling stuff and just shaking. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I have seen it. Yeah. Can you pop him up? Yeah, just look up shaky construction guy. Shakey carpenter, dude. God bless TikTok. Yeah, first thing that came up, dude. He's not Amish, man. I don't know, he's got-- That's got an Amish vibe, right? No, he's got like an accent, like-- Yeah, he does an accent. He's almost like that, but I don't think so. He's just showing you how to do certain things. No, CJ. Yeah, that's-- He's just suffocating the wrong, but it's funny, though. See this problem right here? Definitely not Amish. No. Or we're in a chain. Oh, can Amish not wear chains? No. He's just going to suck it into the border. Just like that, boom. Like, he's got that almost Amish accent. He does. I do not know, like, if he's ex-amish, or-- I mean, I would not be surprised, but I have no idea. Like, you see, you can tell. I cannot tell. Dude, I'm just so fascinated by this guy. He's like, all my feet has been for a while. You know, like, what's your algorithm look like? Yeah, what are your doom's going to? I just ran him stuff. I don't even know. Just like-- Like, what's on-- If you go to your "For You" page, like, what's popping up? Or if you go on your search on Instagram, like, what-- Just people doing crazy stuff with cars, I think. Just going to try them and jump in the cars. You're seeing, like, the Russian guy that does this. Oh, yeah, that guy's crazy. Oh, yes, yeah. I follow one of them, and then you follow me back. I was like, that's pretty neat. Because it's crazy. It seems like, you know, obviously-- I want to ask you, do you have any dreams and aspirations? And obviously, your biggest one seems to be you want to jump a car. I've managed to pull that from this conversation. What else do you want to do? To be honest, like, I don't know what I want to do until it comes your way. Until it comes my way. Yeah. Another thing, like, I want to-- I think I have a big family and be able to provide for them. Like, doing this stuff, like, I do it for fun. Like, that's the main reason why I do it. Yeah, having a family is the ultimate goal. Oh, yeah. For sure, that's how you get really rich. If she doesn't divorce you and take half. Yes. [LAUGHTER] That's another thing I've realized. Like, there are so many kids that parents are divorced. It was-- it surprised me, like, how many? Yeah, that's not-- like, people don't get divorced. Not necessarily ever. Like, I don't have one person ever. Well, Gavin just got married in Vegas. See, you got married. Yeah, you saw it. And you know what his first question was? Are they still together? Yes. And did he have her sign of prenup? So you don't have to prenup his own? Not really. No, I just heard of it. Like, I think-- do you explain to me a little bit? It's like, basically, she can't take half of your family. It protects your assets that you had prior to the marriage. And then he said, well, why wouldn't every woman just want to sign that? And we're like, well, yes, I'm don't look at it like that way. And then he goes, so it's more of a business contract in their eyes or what? The way I grew up was like, if you marry, you stay together. Yeah, I think that's kind of just with time. That's just changed, which is like the stats. Yeah, but I don't know. Just don't look at it quite the same. Things like that always surprised me, but I guess that's how it is, and you can't really do anything about it. Yeah, that had to have been a huge awakening. I'm like, hold on, what do you mean your parents are divorced? What's five qualities you'd look for in a lady if you were going to start dating? Want a family? Don't have a cook. Not a clean sense of humor. Sounds of humor, definitely. Good personality. And holy good looks, too. Good looks. There you go. All right. That's it. That is a perfect gal. Yeah. Do you know where you find those? Yeah, you just keep looking, you'll find some. OK. I mean, you guys probably have, so. We do, yeah, we do. Yeah, we're pretty lucky. We all got girls. That's good. Yep, there are. Two now. Gavin, two. Gavin's married. We helped Gavin meet his, well, now ex-girlfriend, which doesn't look good on our stats. But we could help you. Yeah, maybe. Would you want help? I don't know. I like going out in the jungle by myself. Yeah, you wouldn't really like it if we set up like a speed dating thing and had, like, say, five girls. I mean, I have done one of those. Oh, really? It's like, I don't know. It just feels weird, like, talking to all of them at the same time. Yeah. Where did you do that? It's like justice. Oh, exactly. That's just right. Yeah. If you got that, you would have-- Dude, I forgot, too. There are so many connections. I'm thinking about for you. Let me see. I got to memorize two, like, nicknames. It was floaty, goth girl, Jamaican girl, doggy girl, another doggy girl, and then-- No, two doggy girls. No, no, not two doggy girls, two Jamaican girls. Oh, okay. And then there's one red head. Why'd you call her doggy girl? She was like, yeah, if you want to-- I'm being my boyfriend now, like, tie you down like a dog and like, put you on a leash. Oh, I'm like, that had to have been, like, all right. Well, next. Yeah, how did the floaty girl get her name? Can't swim. More buoyancy. [LAUGHTER] She's got some good life preservers. You could say that. But I didn't give her that name, it was a fact that you-- I think we could do better. We could find you better girls. OK. As I'm scrubbing through this video here quickly. Yeah, I was-- Oh, I was a Russian girl. Russian girl. Russian girl. As you made, she was talking about, like, it almost sounded like bush, but there's, like, a roller somewhere there. It's like a Russian super something. Oh, Brioche. Brioche. Brioche. Brioche. Brioche. Brioche. Brioche. OK. Russians are pretty cool, too. Oh, yeah, he's seen that one guy. You don't want to talk to him about that one guy that's crazy stuff with the-- Chimbap. I don't know how to say his name, but he's-- He's a bot lover. Yeah, he's a chumps off, but he goes every crazy thing. He's like the biggest stunt man alive right now. He goes through a pipe, he doesn't-- Yeah, that's the top. Yeah, yeah. Going a hundred mile an hour, standing on the roof, jump, go through a pipe, land back on the roof of the car. But my question is, how does he afford, like, all these vehicles? Dude, I don't know. I was wondering what he was saying. He'll get, like, a G-wagon, just, like, jump it. Or you see the video of, like, when he dug the hole, put a BMW in it, and then just filled it in with concrete. This guy is probably the greatest stunt man alive right now. Yeah, it's crazy. I've seen possibly ever greatest stuff. Is this type of stuff, too? I agree. When he jumps through-- Yeah, and doesn't make it. Dude, we should-- He's always OK. We should fly him out for Octane Fest, and have him do one of his, like, tube stunts, or-- I love this one. Dude, but the thing is, how does he, like, where does the money come to do this? I bet you, the Russian people just-- They come together? No, he jumped out. He probably would have been. They'll probably want to be-- He's probably funding him. He's just so famous. They're just, like, you know what? Because this guy's got, like, all kinds of expensive cars. Yeah, you know, when he-- Yeah, when he does stuff with the old cars, I get it. He just got to have big balls. But then he's-- he's chose up with a $100,000 car, and then covers in concrete. Maybe that's where all the stolen cars go. Maybe his home is over here and sneaking cars. Maybe. We see Ben's car show. Yeah, I got what I'm looking for. So we'll see if that shows up here. That's crazy. Out of all the things you could do, it just seems, like, such a waste. Yeah. I don't think he has a YouTube channel, he's there. No, I think it's all Instagram. You can't put this stuff on YouTube. Oh, really? I mean, there's stunts. I mean, stunts are too dangerous. Dude's a lunatic. Dude's a lunatic. He's a lunatic. Yeah. If you've seen our truck jump, you keep talking about jumping cars. I have seen it. I saw a clip of that. Yeah, that was crazy. Oh, another thing I really want to do is drive some supercar. Oh, yeah. We'll make that happen. It'll make that happen. Oh, my goodness. That looks so much fun. It's a big jump. Dude, I don't know if we can run it back quite like that. No, no, no, no. I feel like, have you got to give them a ride in the TRX around the track? Oh, yeah, these little-- Maybe, yeah, just hit a couple little ones. Yeah, nothing crazy like that, but-- Drift bowl, that's a smoother line. Yeah, there's a suspension. I think it's fixed, but it's broken. Like, even if it's like a really, like, I don't care. Anything with four wheels. Yeah, I can-- It's not really into two or three, though. Yeah, we'll get three. I don't know about three, but I want to try two or two. I want to try two. Three wheels is pretty inefficient most of the time. But some of our friends think that they're-- I do. That's optimal. Yeah. Three is right in the pocket. Three is pretty inefficient. Ultimately, he sees the Amish way of life as rooted in simplicity, resilience, and deep familial bonds, even as it evolves in response to societal change.
FAQs
Rum Springer is a lifestyle journey that typically starts around age 16.5, where young people leave home to explore the world, often beginning with experiences like skydiving or driving a buggy. It's a period of adventure and personal growth, where individuals start doing new and exciting things outside their usual routine.
Amish communities have long-standing rules that are simply followed, not explained. These rules are often passed down through generations and can be broken with consequences like shunning. The rules are not always clearly defined, and communities may evolve over time, especially in response to modern changes like technology or safety concerns.
Breaking rules can result in shunning, where the person is excluded from community activities like church or meals. This is typically decided by the community, often with elders playing a major role. Shunning is not permanent, and individuals may be allowed to return once they’ve shown improvement or changed their behavior.
Some Amish communities allow limited technology, such as phones for business or in a phone shack. However, they generally avoid modern technology like internet or social media. Phones are rare and often used only for specific practical purposes, not for daily social interaction.
Wealth is not a focus in Amish culture. People don’t measure success by money, and land is often more valuable than cash. Some own businesses or large plots of land, but financial pride is rare. Instead, values like hard work, community, and family are prioritized over wealth accumulation.
Amish communities often build their own homes and barns using traditional methods. These structures are usually simple, with black roofs and white siding. They are built collectively or individually, and sometimes entire barns are constructed in a single day, showing the community’s strong craftsmanship and dedication to self-sufficiency.
