In this podcast episode, the hosts and guest Brandon discuss preparations for the Tacoma Open. Connor shifts from Knights to Imperial Guard for the 40k narrative event after realizing his initial list might not be fun for opponents. Tyler sits out due to work and budget issues. Brandon, a top Kill Team player, focuses on his Murder Wing team, explaining his operative loadouts: a Chaos Lord with double lightning claws for elite matchups and a power weapon/plasma pistol for lower-wound targets. He highlights the shrieker’s critical role in retrieval tac ops, which allows him to steal objectives by stunning enemies and reducing their APL. Brandon recounts a pre-nerf game where his team’s mobility and initiative manipulation made the opponent’s position untenable, scoring maximum points with minimal interaction. Despite recent nerfs, he argues the team remains strong due to retrieval’s reliability. The discussion underscores the Murder Wing’s polarizing playstyle, where strategic positioning and the shrieker create overwhelming advantages, particularly against teams lacking strong shooting or melee counters. Brandon’s insights provide a deep dive into high-level Kill Team tactics.
Tyler you said you got the intro of the sweet great? No If I would have had an hour of preparation I could have had it. It's much more fun to just put you on the spot though so Well, it's Tacoma open week the greatest week of the year after Crick on week and We're gonna talk about it on the boxcast get your podcast because my name's Chuck and I have not prepped enough for this Tournament so we're here with Tyler and Connor and I'm running a ringer the one the only demand the myth legend Brandon kiddo crew being hello Brandon hey guys how you doing glad to be back. Yeah, buddy. Thanks for coming on so Tyler Connor. How are you doing? I'm doing good. I'm doing good Not too bad either been a prep and for to come myself. So I'm excited for it. It's always a great time This week's a little different. We are not doing video this week because Brandon's too fucking hot. We'd have to make it like adult rated so he actually melted his camera. He did actually Yeah, so he's he's he's coming on for like the fifth fourth or fifth time now, but I'm gonna I need to learn how to play murder wing and if you don't know Brandon Give it give a little little little bio for Brandon Brandon was the winner of kill screen one kill screen two barely won the final Barely won that He took second place in kill screen three one kill screen four has won all vali team tournament He's been to the world championships every time now Being Spain this year, so I'll be a four time He's already already booked his ticket to Bartholona So he's gonna be a four time world championship attendee He he runs a patreon too, and he does coaching on the side and one of his players actually we had on the podcast a few weeks back Josh who won the Dallas open so Not only does Brandon know his shit. He teaches people how to know their shit So Brandon actually booked his ticket this year at the cascade clash. We had a Had a little bit of a video afterwards and he booked it with murder wing. So Brandon at the time Murder wing was they got a little bit of a nerf before that, but they were still pretty broken right? Oh, no, this was I won the GT before any nerfs. There's no nerfs to the team at the GT at all They had their full charge. They could do the double swing. They had all their bells and whistles Well now they've gotten nerfed and I have chose to take them to the to come open because I've done a kit bash and I'll put up some Some pictures of my guys here. They do look nice. Yeah Thank you Connor appreciate that because I've also been told that I can't fucking kit bash So before we get too deep into that Brandon. What do you what do you been up to lately? Like how's the I mean with the AVTT, right? Yeah, we got back from AVTT I'm not gonna lie. I didn't do so hot personally. I went three two and one, but that's okay We figured out that Felgor really don't like going into raveners At least not without some play experience which I have not really I have some experience with Felgor But they're not exactly something I run all the time. They can be a very polarizing team and they're not really newbie friendly So I don't like to run them So I went three two and one my team went five and one and ended up getting awards for second I don't know how the tie breaker worked, but it's all good. I was there with ABC Sean and Zach D. W who both have been on the show and other shows and are Kind of professionals in their own right and it's been amazing to watch Everything grow from like my competitive scene up here to these two guys that used to be just like hey We're gonna show up and have a good time and now they're some of the better competitors in the area I love seeing people give me a run for my money Yeah, and you guys you so you won AVTT last year and What did you guys bring you brought Felgor what did what did everybody else bring? Zach was on his Celestines He's kind of known and he just released a guide if you haven't seen it Disgrating dice calm. I'm sure he's got it up there Zach is was like one of the one of the best novice of players Before they got nerfed pretty hard thanks to Shane taking them on these coast and being mean with them over there Announce lessons are in play Zach's been rocking those and then we had Sean who's a very methodical player On a conoptic circle and he went six and no and Sammy carried our team through a couple of our rough matchups And it was a great time. It's absolute blast AVTT as much as is is it is a competitive event. It's so much fun. It's so much more like a hangout and hobby than it is Like a slightly competitive event. It's a lot of fun Yeah, how many players were there? I want to say there was 23 teams but I might be misremembering that so like close to New players because it's three man teams each Yeah Tyler and Connor they're actually doing a team tournament here in And I think a mind taker in September that is that style you guys should you guys should come down and play with me Are you definitely definitely September 12th I believe it is so the Vancouver kill team peeps are doing that one so But this week as I mentioned is Tacoma open week before we get into Brandon showing me the way Conner what are you doing for Tacoma open yeah, I'm doing the 40k narrative. I'm excited for it I was really planning and like I mentioned my Knights and ad mech list which you challenged me and then out of spot I wanted to get done and I got them all built and I was feeling confident about getting it done But the more I did the thousand point games I did one was Aaron we're doing another one Wednesday And then I did a few on TTS actually for the first time. I just I felt like they wouldn't be fun to play for my opponent And I'm also worried about like I want to rush nights nights are so fun and You know a fun hobby project so rushing it would be probably not a great time. So instead I'm rushing through a bunch of guard So what I want to hear from you is chuck you were right chuck you were right well done I'll never question your knowledge again. That's not your absolutely will but I'll pretend to not do that Yeah, you know Conner someone who's got to learn it on its own right right And I'm guilty of that myself, you know, I've uh I'm prone to over committing With a plan like an army or a force and not not being able to deliver change my step right, you know remind me Tyler you've got we've got some pain to do before October I'm killed for kill screen. So yeah, I need to nail that one down Tyler. What are you? Are you gonna make it to go? I'm not making it to come this year. So my works schedule doesn't align with it My wallet also doesn't align with it this year just the way everything Pants out, you know, so I'm gonna end up passing on to come of this year So I couldn't make it up until Friday, which means I can't really do kill team You know like I wouldn't be able to leave until The morning I guess I could leave super early, but then I'd be exhausted and have read showing It's not the the experience I want to have so um and then I'm I'm supposed to follow up on some some more quarters this weekend Week that's that's we don't work stupid But that's a very understandable reason. Yeah, yeah, you know with uh with a plant closing um things kind of weird and You know, not so bomb-a. Yeah, absolutely Brandon, what's your uh what's your plan for to come open and you're obviously playing in the kill team grand tournament? Yeah, so I already got my ticket. I'm already signed up and I'm already got my team locked in No one'll see it because that's the way they do it at GW But I am bringing murdering as well. Uh, I Took them to the casket clash and was like hey, I want to get A best and backslip with this team. So this is what I'm gonna do I initially planned on taking them to a VTT Um, I kind of got outvoted with that, which was fine. I was just going for fun anyway Um, like a VT is a VTT is such a blast and being able to place well. It's just like A check on top with so many fun games um So I'm I'm bringing my murdering. I'm actually in the middle of painting or repainting a second KS Lord with double lightning claws because I have a third party one And if you haven't seen him heal a short dude uh, I am like Tyler with uh my Forty K preferences. I'm a nightlord fanboy and uh, so when I did play Forty K I had a double claw cast lightning lord Um, and uh, he's too short and also not GW compliant And he's a full like inch shorter than The cast lord with double like with power up and he's he's very short boy And Shad was like oh just like put him on court or something. He's already on two layers of cork He's he's like tactical marine size. He's not big Um, I've had him since like before Primaris got it announced like I've had him forever So uh, I need a double lightning claw lord that is legal for To go him open. So I'm in the middle of finishing one Yeah, oh yeah Well good um, you gonna you gonna have done by uh Friday morning. Oh yeah, I mean I mean like the last three stages uh of it I'm gonna add the um For those of you that haven't seen my light night my nightlords uh, I don't have any conversion to their kit bashing There's a couple No, everything. No, yeah, there's a couple pieces that are not quite
Like out of the box, for example, the champion power sword. I swapped that out for power acts from the Legionnaire kit because I the power sword looks stupid But so like outside of a couple weapon bits. There's not really a bunch of converting but What I did do is I took some neon paint Because army army painter has or war paint war paints has these it is army painter has these neon effect paints they have five of them yellow pink blue green and orange and I use orange on all my plasma effects green on all the demonic lightning are all like the demonic eyes Pink to highlight their red eyes because I don't really do iris as well and then over the top of the night words blue armor I Take the blue and draw lightings on it so that it only shows up with the black light and as much as I'm not I'm asked or painter like if you want painting classes go to Sean. I'm not I'm not that guy But the concept is spot on it looks super good One thing I'm doing with my cast lord is I am giving him these very wet dark red clause and Some night learned fans will be like oh he's giving them the red hands Which is the site of like a center that's like his life is already forfeit. That's actually not what I'm doing What I'm doing is Night Lords used to have a relic lightning claw that was called the claws of the black hunt and some nemesis claw fans will remember We're working as the ploy Claws of the black hunt were using such a murdering spree that the fat and viscera from killing so many people got baked onto the Claws and so they're just permanently black and like this gooey like gross looking claw so I have them Red and wet looking That is disgusting I mean I'm sure the painting look awesome, but yeah, just like having Gore baked onto something is That's real gross. Yeah, the concept is pretty fricking brutal You know the night Lords are known for their their you know not gross things that they like to do right like yeah knitting sewing Yeah, absolutely, you know like so gual so was Was awful. They're really good with the radios Absolutely, you know, it's a good time every time they're around. I'm really interested to see what they do with them in dark Arise to apparently they're not a romance option like wishes What do you do? Yeah, yeah, so you're bringing murder wing. I'm bringing murder wing I feel like our results at the tournament will be a little varied so I want to I'm gonna pretend that I've actually Practice with this team. I've got like three games in with them. I've been playing I've actually been playing Nemesis claw in my league And I think I got third so that we'll find out behind Tanner and Ben So bringing let's let's talk a little let's talk a little murder wing So first let's I guess let's talk the changes maybe so or actually, let's just let's just talk operatives so You talked about the chaos Lord Yep, and you're talking about the reala gliding claws. Are you taking anything other than the relic lighting claws? Yes Okay, what are their options you bring power up and applause on pistol if I were to invest more money and more time into this There is a viable and understandably choice to take a bull pistol power up and into fell lower Specifically being able to double shoot into Goats that can't get to use very powerful on focus But outside of that these are the two care swords that I have these are the two care swords that I run 98% of the time So these are the two primary options I take So sorry you said what was that again you were taking so you got one like lightning claws two lords one is really like a Gliten claws the other with a power up and end plasmip pistol Okay, so I've got I've got that basic setup. I'm actually mine is a Dante because I'm my mine are murder wing blood angels basically death company So I've got Dante who's got some lightning claws. I've got he's got a power accident. It's a Melta, but it will call the plasmip so so You said So when are you bringing the lightning claws and when are you flexing into the power weapon and the plasmip? The power up and impositive specifically comes into play and anything that is Ten wounds or less that doesn't have a reliable jazz Like you can take it into blades of cane, but you have to be careful because if they have Jazz they can get a lot more damage and then normal blades of cane is probably one of the few that I would take The double lightning clutches for the reliability to punch through the the jazz But anything that's eight or nine wounds cast can come to mind Cascane acylons anything of that nature that has very scary guns Battle clade is very popular up here. I don't know how many are actually gonna show up, but it's all another one You take the double lightning claws into anything that's gonna melee you taking it the aod taking a nervous call You take it into all the elite matchups Rhiners included if you need a gun into Rhiners take crack grenades it gets rid of their are their double armor save because it has satrate Which is very very useful against Rhiners specifically It because of the double cover save that the Rhiners can get the cracker nade hitting on forces better than the plasmip because they can double cover save a lot of your stuff a lot of the damage that would actually punch through normally Look at so Brandon's been on for like 10 minutes, you know three minutes talking kill team and have already learned like two or three things Yeah So unfortunately if you're gonna learn murdering the best Option to look at and if you're in a like looking back for a game To example of how you want to play murdering at their most optimal head of frustratingly strong Where your opponent doesn't feel like they have playing you just win is into my game against a semi-local to me Naomi we fought at clash for my round six opponent. She had just beaten Chris Bockey the game before and None of the nerfs touched that game at all. I hate to say this but none of the nerfs that the team you received touched that game at all Her options were to stand the boarding it melted because the melt-again can move six and like fly six and then even a family dash two to avoid the tremorsign which is what you got to do That's usually plenty of range to get anyone that's on an objective on Volkis In two-world you have to get a little bit tricky with how terrain is placed but it's still doable especially with the Barbar and a couple good well placed barricades you can make things very frustrating for for players It takes some practice to do so, but Her option was pretty much to stand the board and secure her point or get out of my way my way And also being aware of your initiative manipulation. So something about our game Naomi's my game is I was losing every initiative role Which meant that I she was forced me to go first But that also meant that I was getting the card every time So what happened at the end of turn two Is I have a plus one and a plus two because I lost the role to go for for turn two and I even had the reroll from Initiative to start but either way the plus one and the plus two is usually enough So at the end of turn two she moved off her home objective. I flew on to it secured it That was the end of turn two. So I went to oh in the crud up for that game She can't really stay on the board. There's nowhere safe that she can be that isn't In a that's in a position to counter the Melta and you don't really want to eat a Melta's or have it It's one of the few guns in the game that will delete you. Yeah going into turn three I needed to use my one of my plus plus cards to secure initiative. I don't remember which one doesn't matter I secured initiative retrieves her objective flew back to where I was and concealed when a point where she can't charge me and So okay, I have all my retrieval points. I just went to oh in your crud up on turn two So the most you can get on crates for And that's if I don't do score anymore on crud up and I'm getting six on my attack up I'm probably three on my primary and there's no interaction. There's nowhere you can position that isn't at risk to try to Stop that from happening and that is a really polarizing experience It is really frustrating as your opponent to go into position where she has to expose and has to Move dash and shoot or give up things and like she's not fighting optimally And then the end of that game her dice were not saving her it she she shot me with the venom Spitter and rolled literally six misses after a CP reroll Charging me fought had two hits. I parried her out and did like 14 damage And then fell back and just ran away. I if the game was a very polarizing or uninteractivity and unfortunately like recon is a big proponent of that So you mentioned tack ops there. It sounded like you were playing retrieval on that Is that so and this was pre nerf? Pre-ner from murder wing and so what's so let's just jump into tack ops What do you these days post nerf or is that the still is kind of the same strategy as Bob around and grab points or what are we what do you play most of the time? Retrieval retrieval is just too good. You can do flank into certain teams But retrieval is just the shrieker makes retrieval obnoxiously good If you're within nine of their
home objective. They have to have like 5 APL on a point. They have to have 5 APL on a point. Because if they have 4 APL you can fly for 9, stun one of them and then you count them as one less. So they go from 4 down to 3 and then stun one down to 2 and you can retrieve their home point out from under them with them only having 1 activation to kill your marine in turn. So unless it's like the conoptic leader going absolutely last to command someone to fight you, shoot you and then shoots you himself like maybe you kill them marine but there's not that many guns that just one type of marine that like that. So it becomes very dicey and even then you just still get the retrieval point. So you're already getting 5 on your attack hop so even if he dies you get your you get 3 on your primary which is part of the goal of it and like that uninteractivity and just reliability is really obnoxious. That's why the team keeps performing as well as it does. It's been over 50% win rate pretty much the entire time and it's almost specifically because of that play. So we talked about your you're taking the Lord with a couple different weapons options obviously is the leader. Are you taking the shrieker in most of your games then? All of the ones I'm trying to be competitive with. Okay so yes. He like the stun is automatic it's not a role they are just stunned. Like even if they change it to a normal stun test that's still really good. I think that's the only thing that remains on the team that can be nerfed. He has to be out engaged to do it so he's already taking a risk to do the thing but into a team like Kassarkin you're like okay cool. I can buff that guy a PL and you're like cool I charge I stun you with the scream and then a box scream and stun you again you're double stun your minus 2 APL and yes you can like boost him twice to get around that but then that guy falls back and I charge someone else with the the screen and now I mean combat with someone else who's already activated and now I'm stuck in combat and that's the last place Kassarkin want is a chainsaw or willing space where he's stuck in combat in their lines and like being able to stun so many times is one of the superpowers of this team. Yeah they have a couple different ways to stun between the shrieker and then the equipment piece right? Yeah and then if you want to be extra mean you take stun grenades. Stun grenades and smokes you take smokes in the teams that don't have ignores scurrying like a Kassarkin can ignore scurrying so you just take stuns it's super frustrating you on the note of operative selection one of the other operatives it's super reliable with their melee is the warp tone but he doesn't have a gun this is usually circumvented by some form of grenade you take crack grenades and suddenly you have a couple turns of shooting if you're shooting charge fight and shooting usually there's a lot of focus fire for them ringing to get shot up and if he's still alive then he's running away he's also a really good tech piece for retrieval specifically. So are you let's we're just jumping all over the place but I like it so let's talk equipment so I was looking through the equipment today and it didn't look like I was thinking that you don't take much of the faction equipment besides the Vox Kassar so how do you find yourself using equipment you mentioned crack grenades already you mentioned the potentially smokes for people who can ignore scurrying. Yeah so the equipment comes into a combination of like the board right, focus you probably don't need as many smokes because you can jump around to spots where people just can't they just can't threaten every firing lane and you're so mobile with your fly it there's only so much they can do. The one that I think that people are mega sleeping on is the warp fuel thrusters that lets you charge after someone falls back from you you have someone that has a chain's durability in the Huntsman so if they do successfully fall back and they're injured they're only moving four inches which means they have to move directly away from you and if they move anything but directly away from you they're within four and you can then follow and charge them and just shut down like they fell back for nothing. Also that is doubly more important on into the dark or two more coast quarters because if they fall back and one of their operatives is nearby on guard you can then charge the model that's on guard and because it's not during your activation and now they're in combat it breaks the guard. Okay yeah I like that because then you're not standing on the open there. Do you feel like you're taking warp fuel into teams that are going to be more melee or you're taking them into like shooting teams you want to try and get in their face or what do you what's a general play style even too. Like if anyone if it's a melee team I might not take it into Felgor I might not take it into cults I might not take it into some of the marine matchups. Namus is called Angel of Death that nature because if they're charging you if you're in combat they're not going to want to fall back like they're already they're already they also have scary melee so if you don't kill them they're going to kill you type thing. Space wolves maybe less so because them falling back and shooting with plasma all over the place is actually kind of annoying but like I take it a lot of the times because it's not just a charge like it is on Felgor it's also a reposition so there are situations where you can either charge or be in combat via tricks on the map and then they fall back and you're like cool you're falling back and you're within two because you're gonna fall back and shoot me I'm gonna reactive this way just this amount and then you can't see me at all or now I'm out of range or now I mean whatever the case is it can also position you to be obscured in some cases the utility of that even once for gain once for turn even once for game honestly is just cannot be understood how good that equipment is it is situational but when those situations pop up it flips the entire dynamic of an area do you find yourself then like when you're charging position yourself assuming that they're gonna fall back and so you can use that warp fielding to either get into somebody else or get behind cover depending on the team and like if we go deeper into the operatives I can explain more about that because the curse claw is probably the biggest tech piece the shrieker is amazing the shrieker is such a linchpin of the force but the the tech pieces come in between the warp talent the curse claw and the depreditor honestly the champion I had normally take with either power weapon and plasma pistol or power fist and plasma pistol he's almost always got a plasma pistol being able to farm the CP off of shooting someone to death is super nice for those of you that don't know the champion child is someone who doesn't need visibility if he kills them it doesn't matter how he gets you get a command point for it if you fight that person and mainly you get an additional mainly role depending on the list on his on his card so he's he's great as like a utility piece he's like the jack of all trades master of doing nothing and sitting on my home objective a lot of the time but like five attacks on threes four four six lethal five and you add brutal or balanced or whatever to that weapon and suddenly it's it's a monster it becomes like as good as the blade master for death watch and he's one of the best melee operators in the game it just it becomes a real force into whoever wants to try to threaten him one on one the lightning claw lord is super reliable dice is like part of why you take him the warp talent has four five damage but he also has lethal five and rending because he's got double lightning claws and ceaseless so he has super reliable dice as well and I know I'm saying reliable dice a lot but this teams re-rolls are very limited to those two operas with their claws our other re-rolls are a balance re-roll if we boost with the boost nerf you're not charge boosting as nearly as much you're not doing nearly as many shooting attacks a lot of the times with your extended range when you add eight inches of charge your charge eight fight kill something then you'd also shoot something with balance so you'd have balance for the fight and bounce for the shoot but you're not charging as far anymore so you're not threatening those back lines anymore like you like you were before the spread is still there because the space wing of the power sword is space wing of the power sword but you're not threatening the back line from somewhere that just can't be touched so you mentioned you mentioned before that you do flex the lord sometimes with the plasma and he sounds like the murdering champion is almost always taking the plasma yeah if I take the champion he has plasma so are you dropping the champion sometime for the like the sky sears if you're if you got the lord with the with the plasma or where you because you can only take two of those guns right yeah you only get two AP guns so either two plasma pistols or a plasma gun and a plasma pistol or a meltdown and a plasma pistol honestly if I'm taking the sky sear it's the delta I know that the full range plasma has its place I don't want to get in a shootout I want to be in a position where you have to come to me and like being able to fly makes it super uncomfortable also with the change to malicious narcissism so I can't guarantee going last it's a much more vulnerable weapon and like we are Marines with very limited grieros and very limited we don't have obscuring from night lords we don't have the Nurgle plays from Legion
We don't have Hardy from Space Reigns. We don't have Flip2Conceal from Fobos. We don't have Flip2Conceal for our order for employee from Deathwatch. We don't have AP ignoring anywhere. We are Marines, but of the Marines, we're still pretty squishy. We're not as durable as other Marines. So you need to make sure you get your damage out from a safe position. So that's a big part of it. So what's your kind of like, kind of take all comers the list that you're running the most with the operatives? You probably take the cast order with Lightning Clause the most. And then into like Clause, can Aqua and take the clouds with pistol. I have yet to find a game where I find dropping the champion feels good. I have dropped them for a normal Raptor, but that is just to ignore stuns and be able to do mission actions easily. But even then, that didn't feel great, because you're still having to use an AP to boost to trigger the ignoring AP on modifier. So it's like, you might as well be stunned depending on what you're trying to do. The warp tone, if I'm taking a retrieval, being able to threaten the middle point and then just fly away is just super easy, because he just pops up. So even if someone's on guard, popping up is not an action. So you just appear, which means if you're behind cover, you're good. You pop up behind a barricade, pop up behind a wall, whatever the case is. Retrieved the point, then fly four inches to an actually save spot, which a lot of the maps with a middle objective have a very safe or relatively safe spot that you can put them. And then the shrieker are like the core of like what I fill the team with. The last two positions are always flex positions, depending on what I'm trying to do. If I think people are going to be falling back a lot, I'll take the hunt master. If I think that people are going to be charging me in fighting me like in Danny Elves, I take the curse claw, because there's a strike on death, which is super scary and valuable. I take the curse claw also a lot if it's on two worlds, because his superpower to break on guard is just stupid. So how's that work? So I'm just cursed claw, because honestly, the curse claw is one that I'm like, I don't even know when I'm ever going to take this. But sounds like you found some good uses for it. Yeah, so if someone's on, let's say it's Castercane, right? They have a fallback in shoot, which hits you before the warp fuel triggers, because of the way the wording is with the timing. If someone's on guard, you can snatch them, right? If anyone's practically even nine moons or less, you can pretty much snatch them automatically. So someone's on guard, you need to fly over them, because the movement action is still going when you do the snatch action. You, on a successful snatch, you reset them up on the board, which with Coral's brakes guard, as that action repositions them, the snatch ends, the movement ends. This is normally where on guard would go, but it's already been broken two steps before. OK, that makes sense. So because they've moved, you're breaking the guard, and then you just land in bolt pistol on that or throw a crack in aid? No, so you usually need to combo this with the wings of darkness to have to fly farther, because it is pretty hard to do, to fly six inches and snatch someone, because you cannot end in the range range. You have to literally jump all the way over them. So you can't shoot or fight the entire turn after you do this. What you can do is either dash onto the mission. You can either dash first to get a further up, or you can do it on engage. So you do the snatch, pull someone, put them down, and then you can do the vox scream. So if you position right, you can grab someone, pick them up, drop them near a bunch of their operatives, do an AOE stun for however many people are within two inches of you. And then if they do fall back, you can then or fuel into someone else that is already stunned, and now you're still in combat. And if they fight you, that's fine, because you won your combat's decents, four attacks, four, five, rending on threes, five attacks, sorry. So you consistently get three or four hits, which in the any eight, nine-win operative team does not something they want to fight into, especially with the strike on death means that most teams, even elves, even mandrakes are gonna fight you. They're gonna hit you twice, you're gonna kill them, and they're gonna charge you a second time, hit you once, kill you, then you strike on death and kill them. So you're getting two for one trades almost all the time, and that's just super consistent. Not only that, but the APL economy of doing that is super frustrating for someone who's trying to play the point, trying to play flaying, trying to play scouting, I mean, whatever they're trying to play. The other thing it does is because it's not a charge, it gets around things like yager, shoot, where they get to shoot after you charge, it's not a charge, it's reposition, and it snatches them into combat. So it gets around anything that triggers off of enemy charges. Wait, so, sorry, say that one more time. So yaggers have a ploy after you charge one of their operatives within six inches invisible to that operative, can then shoot the operative that charged as if it was their turn to shoot them pretty much, like as if they're not in combat. Okay. It's like the dwarf is so short, the shooting goes over their head and hits the guy who ever charged the dwarf, right? And that can be really lethal, especially with their, you can do it with their sniper rifle, you can do it with their rocket launcher, you can do it with whatever's nearby, even the three, even the three-five pistol guy, the lethal five can punch some gamers through. And if you drop to four wounds into their three-five knives, suddenly you're not getting a kill and shooting someone reliably because you're hitting on fours, you don't have a way to your injury, and you can go SL real fast there. Okay. So you need to make sure you're getting around that. The other thing it does is because you're resetting up a person with the curse claw, you can fly over them and then pull them off of a point and you be on the point. So it's like a two for one, if they go to transmit, okay, cool. Thanks for transmitting it for me. You're gonna go over here and I'm gonna take your point. And again, it's a train sword-wielding Marine in the back of their lines or just not what they want to do. Yeah. Nice. All right. Have you mentioned my favorite operative on the team yet? Very casual transition. Thank you, Chuck, for mentioning it. The predator, Brandon. Yeah. So I love, I like the predator a lot. I am sad that he can't double-spin. That was a nerf that I don't think anyone saw coming because that combined with the fly change to their boost makes him extremely difficult to use. But that doesn't mean he's not usable. Five seven, five attacks on four is five seven. The mega thunder hammer from Deathwatch did see play for a while, less so now. It's probably actually more so now that they got nerfed with their damage reduction play. But it's still like a decent threat. It's scary. Him getting injured, socks hitting on fives with that weapon is just like depressing. But that's not really why you take him. You take him for, like he generates stuns like no other. It's quite amazing. Charge, spin, average for damage, and then you fight into anything, which means most things are too tapable. Between five and a seven is 12 plus the four is most things in the game diet that, unless it's like a ravener, I guess. I also like taking him into teams that are not wanting to fight me. Casterkin, Aquan's anything that's eight wins, L's even. Because when I really like to just, I like to throw the hunt master to charge someone, stay in combat because they have trouble falling back, which means you either need to fight me and you're fighting a space ring with a power weapon or you need to charge someone else into me to get out of combat. And if you do that, that's usually the predator sitting six inches away from where he was. So now you're giving me a double charge with that guy. And you give me a double charge with the predators and come in to 2D, 3 damage to both of them. And I'm one tapping them with a single hit. So he does not nearly as powerful as it was. He got the most amount of nursing the entire team, but there is still power to be high on that. - Okay. Can we jump back to a quid again real quick? - Yes, right. - No, you're good. I love this. This is great. I love the stream consciousness. - He got like two of those. - Right and notes left and right here. - Oh, I'm gonna have to listen to this on the way to Tacoma and then in my hotel room. - You should put it on when you sleep. You know the thing where people say, if you want your baby to be smart, you gotta listen to Mozart while it's in the, while the mom's still pregnant, you just gotta do that when you're sleeping. - That's how Chuck absorbs lore. - Yeah. - Pretty much. I mean, I listen to the kind of skin book like every other night. So it's gonna be really weird though. Well, when I'm laying in bed and Jenna's next to me and just Brandon's coming through the microphone, just, you know, so it's not as weird the Connor is, but I don't wanna talk about that. So let's talk though. Let's go back to the equipment. - So the equipment. First, let's get one of these out of the way because this is what I do with Blooded. I point out the one that's absolutely useless and you leave it alone forever. Bladed wings, the wing blade, whatever it's called. I don't even remember what it's called.
call it because it's so bad. They don't come to the low. D3 plus 1 damage if they're in your boost zone. Yeah. So, I have played Murtowing probably 70 80 times by now. And I've only ever pulled off three of that maneuver in all of them with the high raster. So if you're looking to use that ability ever, use the hunt raster. He gets me able to do that. He can do it on conceal. So if you combo it instead of the curse call with wings of darkness, you can get into really silly positions that threaten people's backlines. It does cost an APL to do the action plus you're flying. So that's two of your APL already. It's not super efficient, but it's something to do on the way to get to a position that can really cause problems for your opponent. And I would never take the equipment. I think the only time you ever can even consider it is if you're doing it with the Huntsman. Because you don't really need that threat everywhere. Four damages, not enough to warrant a Marines total activation. I've actually gotten kills in dislessions with the 2D3+1 because it's just enough to like after they took a hit to kill them from eight wins or seven wins or whatever I rolled. All right, so blade fins are out. Yeah. No slice from buff. We already talked about the Warfio. We talked about the Vox Caster. Sounds like you're taking those quite a bit. Yeah. Claude Armor. One damage on the charge. Claude Armor is amazing for breaking certain break points. The problem is that you're not charging as near as much anymore. So this is very good. It is amazing at breaking break points into Elvis because then your power weapons or seven win models your power weapons do well. If you can get a fist on the champion to do seven damage, he charges to do one tapping Elvis is really cool. The problem with that theory though is that it just doesn't pan out that way. You charge them mandrake they fight twice. They prepare your one crit and suddenly you're struggling to kill them. There's only a four attacks, not five attacks like you are with the power sword. You do it with the depreditor and into blades of cane and they prepare you with a banshee. And suddenly you don't have your one crit anymore and now you're struggling to kill them because you only have two other hits because you're on force. There are a number of break points that they really help with. The power weapons into wolves power weapons into less so angels of death but it still applies. There's a lot of these weird break points that you can hit with that with the Claude Armor but it's usually the first one I end up dropping for any sort of positional advantage I can get on the map. Can we say a positional advantage? What do you speak in towards? Like we talk about raise a wire. Raise a wire or safe saving spots even just giving someone that is troubled. If you're giving yeagers two barricades to jump over to get their whole objective it's practically a safe whole game you don't need to worry about it. And just creating problems for your opponent and moving. With your fly you get around some of the base blocking things that people have problems going into but that's not the same fear opponent. If you only have six inches to charge and you place a barricade in the right spot that means you can charge to the middle of the mid-board objective and that means nothing's safe from you. And if you put a barricade just outside the token they can't put it close enough to block your base from landing on the token itself because they have to be two inches away from your barricade. So I mean you can fly over and they have to pay the tax to charge over. So they have equal distance the problem is that on bulkess specifically you're charging from rooftops not on the ground. So they have to not only get over that barricade but then they have to get through the building up to the second floor to get you at all. So you're one sided threat range is way better that way. So sounds like the blade fins out. A lot armor maybe but not too often unless there's break points I'm not going to math so I probably won't take them. I would take light barricades and if you're going to default to four every game. Late barricades cracks, warp fuel thrusters and the vox. The timing drop the vox is in the ages of death when they ignore a peel modifiers which all of them are competitively. So in that instance you could call it take cloud armor instead because it helps break through some of the break points a little bit cleaner with the power weapons specifically into 14 moons is a lot better. See this is the sauce that I need. I need to be like hey you're not smart enough to actually think about other stuff. Here's the four things you need to take every time. This is perfect. This is what I need. Thank you. Well you used to drop the vox into space wolves because they ignore stuns. You still might do that because you would drop that into the space wings as well. You still might do that because if you're stunning them you're spending an APL for their APL and it's not usually worth it. You'd much rather be doing damage with that APL because you have to be up close to them to vox it. I guess you're better off taking stun grenades since you can do it from conceal and cause problems with their plan. If you're within six and they charge fight you. You're probably in the storm which means you're probably only four attacks to their five attacks and you're probably in some moderate trouble anyway. Okay. It's good to know. So we got we got equipment figured out. Sounds like we got the operative figured out we've got some strategic some strategic employees though. So you know we don't have any strategic plays we're just not taking those. Yeah. So I'll go through them. But how do you keep living up playing teams that like you could just skip 90% of their strategic guys like for as long as now these guys. Whoa whoa whoa whoa. What did you use reckless aspirin? Oh, okay. I guess that's true. That's true. That's why I said 90%. I used to use that. I used that play even on turns. I did not think I was fighting or shooting just in just in case it's so good. Yeah. I feel you. So the points are the TLDR of them is one gives you balanced after you've missed but it's only during your activation. So if you charge with a boost and fight and then someone shoots a fight to you don't get it anymore. It's just during your activation. So you have to be charged double fighting or charge fight shooting to get any more value than like a CP re-roll would normally get you. Because you're not getting in on the defense defense side at all unless you're still on advantage. It's still beyond advantage to get it. Also like if you're into Felgor on Volkis you take it every turn because you get to balance shooting all day long. Outside of that you have minus one damage, minus one normal damage during your fights. Again, it's only during your fights. It's also to a minimum of, it is to a minimum of two. So it's really amazing. But no one's hitting you with nor holes that you care about. Every elf is hitting you with a 4/6 power weapon or worse. Every space brain is hitting you for 4/5 so maybe you care about it in that one instance. But the second they roll a crit, it doesn't matter anymore. They're just, there's so few situations when normals come into play in the melee of it. It just never feels useful. And again, it's only on your fights. It's only on your fights. So if you get charged and they fight you, you don't get it at all. So you're just boned. So it's still for your sucks. Your predator is above. Yeah, so I think the only time I've ever consistently used instil fear is into canoptic because they're all 4/4 damage. And reducing them to 3 damage even on your fights is very solid to bunch through those bucks. Your most played one will be like on your go turn. It is the after you've boosted you to defensive reroll when someone shoots at you. It's the only one that stays on you after you've boosted. It also works while you're on advantage. So if you're on advantage and they shoot you, you get your defensive reroll. It's the only one that is persistent of their strategic ploys. And it's the one that you like want to consider the most as a 3-up reroll ball or where save is actually quite good. Okay, so Nightmare on High sounds like we use Nightmare on High pretty regularly. Semi-regulately. Our fire flight ploys are worth skipping some of these four. Okay. What about told the week? Cold week is good. The problem is that it's never something you start with. You always need them to have already been chinked down. You need to chink their armor down. Take a bite out here and there. You need to have already stunned people, which means if you're doing it with a shriek or you aren't engaging any shot at it, if you're doing it with anyone else, you're going to come by range and fighting. You need them to have already taken damage or already be stunned to get punishing on them, which can happen. It's solid. If you're taking the plasma, it's actually very useful. Make sure plasma guns with lethal 5 amazingly accurate. Lithal 5 hitting on 3's balance. If you're on a point and punishing means you like auto crit and hit three times and get a crit all day long because of lethal 5. It's really good. Make sure some of the most accurate plasma in the game, which is why we're limited to two. I would take a whole team of raptors with plasma if I could because literally because of that play. So you need to look at the board and be like, hey, is half or more of their team damage
or stunned at this point. If that answers yes, then call the week becomes worth it. So let's go into Firefight Play Zone because it sounds like this is where we're spending most of our CP. Yeah, so first off again with the useless one. What's the one where let's you charge? That's going to be the one that lets you charge. Yeah, it murders to set. No one ends within three of you vertically underneath you. Ever. Ever. It's now it's never again, almost 80 games never has happened once. They're shooting you. They're shooting them from six or nine inches away. They're not close to you like that. No one is ever. If they are that close to you, they're right next to you. They're not below you. So you can't do it anyway. I've used it once. Yes to devastating effect, but it's on two world, not on focus. Is my opponent came into the room? I asked if you're sure that's where they want to go. They said yes, and they had to go into the room to get me because they had two operators at the door. So they couldn't see me through the door. They couldn't position to see me. And he was within range. So I charged him. Got in a combat with him with my four health hunt master. And he failed the role of crit, punched me for three. I parried him out and killed him. That was that like held the entire flank with that play. The one game out of 80 had a slight use. So it's something to have in your pocket. If you like that situation comes up that very yes, but you have to be very. Where they can't just position to the door and see you and shoot you. Gotcha. Now this was the this was the big bad of the beginning of murder wing where you could just skip activations for until you got the last activation. But this has got nerfed. Are you seeing a lot of play out of malicious narcissism still? Yes, but specifically because we have so many battle played players up here. That you need to do that in the battle. Otherwise they will double dash and shoot you with mouth. You have to do it so that they can't double dash you. Then actually the other operative and shoot you with mouth. Because if you don't, they're just going to they're going to power you through you. You don't need to you do is it any. Into anyone else nearly as frequently. You'll still use it, but not nearly to the same frequency. I've used it multiple times to zero effect, but even just have the mental of like when I'm going to go is something that you can pressure your opponent with using that play. So you're going to use it not every turn, but probably turn to maybe turn three and you'll almost never use it turn four. And speaking mostly in a battle played or just in general. Just specifically is a lot use a lot specifically into battle played. So long forgotten honor. Yeah. This makes two APL teams. Can cry. Something that they want to do. If even if you thought about blooded right they have a lot of two APL modders. They have a lot of very scary melee that can actually do damage to Marines. You make them you you fall back in the middle of their fight mess up the entire stick of what they're trying to do. It ruins like everything it ruins everything. Someone who wants to charge and double and double fight you into like a Marine. They charge you you fight them. If you're on conceal you hit them with the grit and it doesn't do damage. But then you get to a three inches away. You don't get to fly. But if you're if they've charged and you go three inches away into cover. They cannot shoot you because you're in cover and more than two inches away. And they don't have anything to do with their last APL. Maybe if they have a stun grenade they throw it at you. But either way it means that they charge you. They just fought you hoping to kill you and they only got one hit before you get to run away. And I know one hit is sort of like the the hope. The team is lethal five all over the place. We have lightning claws, two different operators with power weapons, two different operators with lightning claws. The other models all have five attacks. So this is a very good chance they roll a crit out of those five attacks. And one of those other ones has raining. So if you're all one crit you have two. So if someone's going to outmail you you just ditch the crit fall back run away and ruin their whole game plan. Yes they will punch you once. So you'll take some damage but you'll be alive. And that is the key point. So what are wings of darkness? wings of darkness is I play the crit out better than you. That's how you play it. Nine inch move with these operatives is obnoxious, especially combined with the box screen or the shrieker. Again I already mentioned some of the tech with the curse claw. You also will find that if you're going to try to do the hunt master stab as he flies over at all you'll also use it there. Instead of on the curse claw or instead of this where you fly the shrieker nine inches stun them on the point if they have four a pl. Here's a three inch aura of you count as one less. So you fly nine inches onto the objective. The four a pl now the count is three. He has a six inch visible automatic stun with D3 damage. So then you stun one of one of the operatives. So they go from four a pl on the point, down to three with your aura, down to two with the stun. And now you have three a pl to their two. You can now retrieve you can now secure you can now transmit you can send data you can download you can do. Whatever your heart desires except you to fight except you to fight yes but that doesn't matter when you have a point and click stun that does D3 damage. And then you can also counteract and do it again to point and click stun for D3 damage. I don't know who really hates taking D3 damage with that like gets through damage reduction. Everyone everyone hates it. Mandrakes hate it. That means they don't get to fight. That means they die in one crit into half your army. You do two damage with the stun. Now they're down to six health. You have lethal five power weapons all over the place. So if they fight first there's a very strong chance they're only going to get one hit in and then die. That's super powerful. Yeah, it feels real bad. And then if they don't fight first, you're like, okay, cool. I will to create your net. Good talk. So I think we've covered everything about the team. We get the strap boys which suck. Five other boys are great. Operatives equipment which is meh. So what's your so it sounds like we're playing retrieval most of the time. What's your I mean are you. Are you aggressive with this team? Are you waiting to just kind of set up like charges and get that melt up front? How are you? How are you playing this team? So this team does what blood and wanted to do but better blood didn't really want to play turn to they wanted to threaten turn to and then play turn three. This team does that except even more uninteractive. And with very one sided threats if you position with razor wire and a barricade you can make your charge six inches and make people other people's charge much less than. And even the flexibility of getting in different positions on the map are amazing with the boost which is what is keeping this team in. Excuse me in the 54 or 53% win rate that it consistently sees. So like retrieval is just too good retrieval needs a nerf in my opinion and one of the first nerfs that I proposed with this team back when they were overpowered still was you take recon away from them and make them play infiltrate instead. Because all of the infiltrate maps at least force interaction. And that means that this team can't just sit safe and do the retrieval thing all the time they have to risk something to be able to play the game. But they still get to do their damage and do all their neat tricks now they don't get as many tricks so you have to be more careful with them. And it's kind of forces a less interactive play style but it doesn't mean it's not still very good. And yes, it's less interactive at the core. But at the end of the day you're still flying around with Marines. Flying Marines pretty dang good. No way that could ever be a problem. Yeah, no way never. I mean, yeah, you still got you know three up saves 14 15 wounds. It's not bad. Yeah, the Chaos Lord is uh, disturbingly tanky like the funniest of times. How do you actually so let's talk about that. We didn't talk about the path of damnation stuff that boons. How are you how often you're using that is it is it using it one maybe you got one boom you're using it. Maybe two boons you're using it or you just like go and casino a lot of the time. If I am if I am interacting with the Chaos Lord at all, I'm rolling on it every single time. Uh, the game is too lethal to reliably get things super high that it like makes a difference. Okay. So like I've never gotten higher than a three or maybe four one time. But I've also killed myself with it once. Yeah.
like that's sort of the trade off, but like of 80 games I've killed myself once. I've blocked a ton of damage. I've also pushed his lightning claws which are 4-6 into that 7 range, which gets you around, again, break points, right? If you have clawed armor that means you can one tap Elves all day long, gives you this one damage on the charge boosted to 7, suddenly you punch through a crit and they're dead. And because he has lethal 5 and Rending and Seaseless, he's gonna have crits. So getting one being able to kill an elf on one crit because they can't juxtapce it is super good. Yeah. Yep. That is probably one of the biggest arguments for the clawed armor specifically, is if you're going to go into 8-1 models, giving your team ways to one shot Elves is really nice. Yeah, I think it sounds like the, if you can like, Depreditor then because he's got the 5-7 and then a juiceed up chaos lord. I like the Depreditor because he can charge spin for 2-D3 damage and then one tap the, what is the, the R-Siberite from the Mandrakes, the leader of the Mandrakes, I don't remember what he's called. There you go, the Niphine. If you do 2-D3 damage, you normally do 4, which means on a normal hit you do 5 damage and punch through them. So you have to make a 5-up or die. And that's usually like how you deal with that guy is the Depreditor. There's not that many operatives in the game that can just cleanly deal with that guy. It used to be a lot cleaner where you could charge for one damage and then spin twice. It was just, it was, it was hilarious. I, I cannot express how many Elves I've killed with the double spin. But now that that's changed, you need to make sure you charge due to 2-D3 damage and then be able to hit him one time to kill him. It's, that guy can be really powerful and if you leave him alive he can just continue to be more powerful. People will spin CP to heal him, heal the Niphine after he's killed the guy because it is that vital of an operative. So it's something to consider. So it seems like Elves at least in theory. You've got El Sol and Mana tricks into them. But like, what would you consider are the worst matchups or some of the toughest matchups for these guys? And then like what would be your, your best tips for those terrible matchups? Because you know, we're playing 11 rounds or at least Chuck is. So odds are he'll fight fuck. Sorry buddy, sorry to remind you. I mean maybe 10, you can drop out for World Cup if you're not doing good. But you know, you're going to probably place at least one bad matchup. As like, Casher can win played on like a two-moral board when like they need things to go right. But Cas can be able to get double meltout of the situations is super frustrating. This team has play into everything. They don't have a team that specifically hard counters them. Like as an example, I struggle mentally into raveners with Felgore the other day. I think that if those match were a little bit different and I had a little bit more experience, maybe those play out differently. But that felt like a counter matchup. We also discover that Celestin's and the Colts is kind of a hilariously bad matchup for Colts. It's all the blink damage and all the like true damage that the team wants to do or even damage reduction. The Celestins don't care about it. They walk through it because it's all psychic keyworded. And then the second someone goes on engaged, they just get paltered with blink damage until they're down to 8 health because of all the silent shooting that team can bring to bear. And the damage reduction is not something they're a fan of. It's I don't know. It's not. I don't think Merderwing has a set hard counter team. I think that Cas can on two-moral, there's probably one of the scarier things I've ever been by threatening to fight. I've been told that Aqualons are actually like supposed to be a mega hard counter because they get around molester snarcosism because of the operatives are off the board. But yeah, but even then it never feels like that. Kinoptic Circle is actually probably one of them hard-er matchups still. Just because Kinoptic Circle is so solid. Who don't they kind of make an annoyance for? Right. I haven't fought Wolf Scouts to the level that I know Wolf Scouts can be played. So like locally, I'm not really afraid of them, but I know that they're in the storm. Things can get you out pretty dastily. Namelesses Cloud don't really have the dice reliability for me to be afraid of. They do have seek light. So that's something to take into consideration. Stardust face wolves. I don't really see a hard counter to this team, which is kind of like where angels of death sit. They don't really have like a hard counter anymore. They're used to be, you know, like I used to consider blooded of hard countered angels of death because even outside of my wins, you would have blooded with like an 85% winner in the angels of death whenever we looked them up on the stat website, which is sort of amazing. And I don't think that's the case anymore. I think angels of death are kind of like a take up y'all. If like sometimes they just pull those through because space marines. And that's sort of what murdering can do sometimes because again, 14 wins, hitting on threes with, you know, some lightning claws and a little bit of defensive tech to mess up your opponent's game plan. And that's all it takes. Yeah, that makes sense. But for Chuck's sake, just in case like a really bad defeat happens, we're going to need a clip of you going, probably the worst team is, and then this blanket, and then we'll get you to say that and chucking to add that in in post. Like the worst team is blotted. The worst team is horserars. Well, you're not going to see blooded. Okay, well, you're right. But, you know, I'm not thinking about that right now. Um, worst team is hearth can get yours. I'm probably going to need to come back to this because I just need you to say the worst team is, and then I'll have Connor put it. I'll have Connor actually do the team when we get it. So let me give me a nice clean. The worst team for murdering is. Okay, so weirdly enough, the most complicated team to fight into is exactions squad. And I'm not doing a meme for Dakota. It is just them being able to shoot in the comment means a lot of your safety protocols are there. They also have visors, so they're not mean to the stuns. The fight first means that can get us surprisingly amount of high amount of damage into you, even with all of your lethal stuff. Um, if they roll a crit, they suddenly win the fight, and it's very frustrating and hard to like punch through. You do have a different couple of options like one tap them, but then they're still hitting you at least once. Um, and so they do a lot more damage than most eight wound operatives can when they are piloted aggressively enough to make it matter. Um, I think exactions are the most complicated game in a two-world map there is between the Aqualan also sort of counting what the striker wants to do. Uh, the, the token and um, they're shooting the combat just to be able to get more damage and when they're already usually winning fights because of the double parry and strike first. Uh, it's kind of a unique matchup in this one that I think people are underestimated with, uh, especially with Marines. Marines usually don't get scared of extraction. And I think that a aggressively piloted enough exaction team would actually be really annoying to do with. Well, I'd fucking hate cops anyway. So, um, in no matter what the matchup is, like, yeah, that fight first, like stupid shields guys. So, um, Brandon, I have one last question for you. You've done a fantastic job and uh, selfishly as the person who books people on the podcast, I, that's why I had you come on because I have not practiced at all. Are you going to win the Tuckle open? I don't think so, but that's okay. I haven't yet won the Tuckle open. I got second and a last year next to my buddy Sean. That was a great event. Uh, I didn't even make top eight year before, but I got ninth because I placed best out of everyone there last time someone here made top eight. Um, and uh, oh, yeah, that's right. I did that. Then he slept in and got his ass kicked by just wow. Listen, that was like two years ago. I have got the memory of a goldfish. I was like, wait, did you tuck it? No, I, I think 11th is the best I've ever done. I've never, I've never made top cut until this year. Now you've got to tell this year. Yeah, just get hyped up on like, take like infetimines right before. So you're perfectly in the zone. Yeah, what's the, the Brandon Bean Zone, is you wake up, you slam a monster, right? Yeah, what's like the ultimate like 15 minute prep chuck should do before the tournament. So this is what you do is you stay in on the south side of Tacoma and or liquid. This week can go to alley burdos and get a breakfast breito and our good burritos. You get a big fat breakfast breito. It will last you through lunch and we, you'll be very hungry for dinner, but it'll last you the day because they are like bigger than the feet that Connor is into. I'm actually speaking of big feet. We've talked too much quilting. Did anyone see that giant elephant ogre model they showed off today? That's an excellent. Yeah, Mrs. Operative, everything's exidites. Anything with no verbatim. Yeah, yeah, it's exidites for sure. Well, let's actually, Brandon, what do you think of the, what do you think of the exidites? Are you, are you a doom and gloomy? You think they're going to be busted and broken? Like everybody else seems to think of, Olivia, I'm talking about you. I don't think they're going to be busted. I think that they're going to come out just in time for us to get new tack-ops to make them viable.
I don't know when or if we're getting tacked up this year, not a play tester to quote someone else, but it just feels like they're wanting to play a part of the game that just isn't a thing anymore. Like if you had Tyler maps and a way to place your base on things, cool. Tyler maps and like a way to get around different placing of your base base is totally fine. But like those three operatives have to be as powerful as the brood lord in order for that team to be viable. Yeah, fighting one brood lord was fun. How about three of them, right? Yeah, it's like we don't really want to play Nemesis, but here's the next best thing is three dinosaurs with dudes on them. Well, plus a little, a little couple of dogs. You got a fuck way. Dogs, it's five wounds. That's it. That's all that's it. Dogs can't be expendable. So they're just going to sit on your home point. They can't do mission actions. They better not be able to do mission actions. Well, they're dinosaurs. They might have like dino dna and be really smart. Shout out to Jurassic Park. Yeah, San Leo thing. I was going to say Neil something like that. That's not the name. Oh, yeah. Neil Sedaka. Neil said that's what I'm calling it. I'm calling it this week. They have to announce the group. If they don't, we like say they hate everything good in the world. Speaking of the loss raptors and not kill team, I've been reading Dundering Crawler Crawler. Oh god. Yes, let's go. Oh, no, actually, before we go on this Chuck, I also found out another one of my friends brought up the book and she loves it. And I was like, son of a bitch. Am I just the only one who get on the fucking train? I did. You know, he's like a Burmerton local. Like he lives up. I did know that again, apparently like his local bookstore has like signed copies of his book and stuff and like I'm really tempted to go up and get a sign. Kind of from a wonderful friend who thought I'd enjoy it, which was a very kind gift. And I'm just a broken person who didn't enjoy it. Oh my god. I love it. They have such a good series. I'm on book three. I'm on book three. I'm on book three. I'm on book three. No spoiler. No, book three is a tough one. It's really good. It's tough. I will wreck you if you spoil books. I'm like, I would never do that. Tyler's the one who doesn't care about spoiling shit. I don't, I don't spoil stuff for other people. It's a carol dying in books. Yeah. Yeah. And Luke said actually the son of ater or something I've heard. Yeah, absolutely. You know, I have. I have. I have. So whatever. He gets wounded by Horace. You guys. I have quite a list of disappointments in life. And one of the biggest is the fact that the book that felt like it was custom made for Connor. He can't get into the series. It does feel weird because everyone's like, it feels like something you should love. Like it does. It feels like it should be, but it just, it doesn't click. And I don't know why I'm just broken the first book, the first book. So hard. Like I get it. I get it. I just hit me at the right time of my life, you know, maybe I just got a grow as a person. And then I'll be into it. If it was no, it would have been another time. Like I don't know if I would have sucked with it. You know, I think, I think like a big part of it is you have to have a certain level and a certain appreciation for the immaturity of a lot of this stuff in the thing. You're just like, of course, like this is typical and this is ridiculous and still love the thing. And that I think is a big part of like why? Because like I've heard that the first books are supposed to be hard to get through. And I was like, these first books are getting having me enthralled with them. I only started, I just started the books eight days ago and I'm mid, I'm like a quarter of the way into books. So are you breeding them or are you doing audio book? I'm reading. Oh, yeah. You're, you're, you're, you're going through these things. Yes. And then, uh, you said your kids today. No, no, this is fair. They're fine. They're eight. They'll get waffles. Yeah. Right. The other ones 18. He's, he's mostly self-sufficient. Tell you once you, once you read the books though, if, I don't know, if you can consume audio books, the audio books are an entire experience in themselves because Jeff Hayes, who does the voice of everybody in the books is an absolute mastermind when it comes to, to reading these books. It's crazy. No. Like, you, it's, I don't know, it's, I'd be really interested to hear it too because, um, like, I know some people like Ryan, um, Ryan Haggitorn actually read everything before he started listening to it. And he went back and started listening to it. It was kind of hard for him to hear it because he had this voice for Carl and his head. And then like, it was a different voice, but like, man, the audio books are fucking amazing too. I mean, this is croc. It's, I mean, but it's croc for like the first like two, maybe first half of the first book into maybe two, but then it just, it becomes, it becomes Carl. And like, I don't even hear croc anymore. So, but, uh, until, uh, shows up, right until croc shows up. Yeah. So it's the, the, the, the, the Emperor's new groove crossover with dental car. It was a weird part, but I'd liked it. Oh, sorry. Spoilers. I missed it. I wasn't paying attention. It's okay. I'm sure you weren't. So, No, I fucking love those books. Like, those have easily become my, my favorite books. And I, I preached the good word of Carl to everyone who listened except for fucking Connor who wouldn't listen. I'm just, I still love you. I love you too. I'm so sorry. I like I said, I feel like something has to be broken in sign because at first I was like, they're just not for me. But the fact that everyone I talked to, that's right. I was like, I love them. Or at least I really enjoyed them. I'm like, there's only been like two other people I've talked to that were like, oh, I was all right on the first one. So, Brandon, I have to tell you that like, so I was so convinced that Connor was going to be into these books that Matt Deneman was here in Portland. And doing a book signing. And I used my like one in person. I have a true of him signing it for me. My one custom like sign this for, for me was like, Hey, can you sign this for my buddy Connor? He is into AI and feed. I mean, Connor, one of those things. Yeah. Personalized, I just get, I'm mad, mechery. I personalized a copy of this book for Connor struck out in the front of it. He struck out, dendra Carl and wrote Connor. And I gave it to Connor. I was like, he's going to love this. It's going to be the best of Connor's like, it's fine. It was okay. I'm sorry. You know, with how much you preach, I'm sure we can get them to maybe like come for like crack kinds, you know, all about tabletop gaming. Well, they're adding a tabletop RPG, right? We can get him to come to crit con five or something. I really want to see I like I want to get one on the podcast. Yeah, I want to get him like just shame you. I don't know like publicly. That might be like the biggest turn on for you in the world. Your favorite author just yelling at me like I don't think anything better for you. I came just thinking. Well, on that note, Matt Dindman, if you want to go to crit con and you want to get in touch with us, let me know. And I will pay for whatever ticket you want to attend to. If you want to show up and hang out. We can just give it to tank and he gets to throw the first one at me. Yeah. So no, I'm glad you're enjoying the book. Say I've really, really enjoyed them and they continue to get better and better. If you if you talk to Zach, he says book five is where it becomes like a literature and it gets like even deeper and wilder and crazier. It's all it's all bonkers. It's part with, but it's so good. They touched on that with trying to figure out how to word this without spoiling things. The thing that happened during one of the interviews that involved the other interview. Okay. With with Lora. With the singer. Oh, yeah. I just wait. Just wait. My friend. Just wait. You have no clue. So they hinted at that and like that instantly exploded in my mind. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. It's so fucking good. I need to get sober before I try to think about this again, because I was, I was not sober when I was reading that part. I was like, wait, wait, wait, wait. I mean an adult even more like difficult. Just to wait, man, it's your your mind coming up below. I'm I'm excited for it. It's like it's sitting right there. It's right there. I'm so glad that you that you enjoy this. And like, why don't you talk to your son about what he doesn't enjoy. So like have it, have it like have it like I would like to come to Jesus with your son and be like, what are we doing to Jesus? What the parents, what the parents like doesn't mean the kids like it. It's fine. It's can like something else. They can be wrong. They're entitled to their wrong opinions. It's okay. Yeah. Well, yeah, I'm glad you're enjoying it. It's it's easily become my favorite books here is I have way too many copies of books and Nick told me that they're even like books one and two. They're coming out with a new like alternate cover now the two that you can order starting like July 17th. You're gonna become like all my books match. I'm not gonna order those. But you know, you're gonna become like one of those people that's a little too in a Harry Potter. You're gonna start wearing like the Hogwarts letterman jacket. The one that's not legitimate doesn't do what she did for you to tie with this. You know what I mean because I I genuinely enjoyed the books as a kid like I read all them up until I was like 19s when the last one came out. What's my dream of those like to be canceled far. Yeah. Like really having a foot fetish and like taking a two far one of these days like going going full like. Louis CK. Yeah, let's be a Louis CK and talk about last come open. Yeah, absolutely. You know, if you're Louis CK fan, I'm not a fan. What? You know, yeah. Can we tell the story? Yeah, actually, I think we've told the story. I think we have to maybe you got to go back and listen. You got to subscribe to a patron and go through all of our previous episodes and the after shows to find out that story. Oh wait, I think I know what we're talking about. This clicked. But I have an after show.
story as well because it's a little stars above. We'll get to that in just a moment. So Brandon, thank you so much again for going through the murder wing. I'm gonna again, I'm gonna listen to this like 14 times and I'm still gonna go like three and eight or something. But you know what I believe that you'll have a positive record. Yeah, I appreciate that buddy. So Brandon being tell the people where you can find you. I have a very small YouTube channel Kittokrew gaming search meme. I'm Kittokrew everywhere. I've a patron. It's also very small. Most of my content is all free. I do coaching on the side, but it's very hit or miss. I have I am an adult with children in a full-time job and trying to paint and do you know my own hobbies. I don't charge. It's all just based based on how you feel and on that quick note, spoon, Josh who won dollars open. I think he's actually way more than I deserve. He's like had to pilot a very complicated team through 11 rounds. Not like he did really take all the credit man. Yeah, lean. It's a common was under your. You know, if you wouldn't have coached him, he wouldn't have won. And like that's the reality of it. Brandon Bean is representative of the standard of players that we see in the Northwest of your cabin here. It's all Brandon beans all the time. Everyone's just slightly slightly worse than him. We're getting there. We're sincerely getting there. Like my I run a RTT out of to come to come a game shout out to go to go to go games. They're great. We're a RTT out of there every month. We have a Golden Ticket event. Two years in a row now, which is amazing. First small store to have like a Golden Ticket event. You have to win one of the RTT. You have to go three know it and RTT to qualify to go to the invitational and everyone at the invitational has to have gone three know at one of the events throughout the year to go. So it's sort of like a six or seven year event done over two different events. It's it's really cool that we've earned a golden ticket for it. We're going to be making some changes after this event. August is when we do our annual invitational for that Golden Ticket. And moving forward into our third season, we're going to be instigating some more competitively minded rules and limitations on that event as it's become less of a newbie friendly. Hey, everyone get some tournament practice and you'll go and you'll be like, Oh, there's four people that have gone towards in the room. Three of them have multiple Golden Tickets. Two of them are some of the best with their respective teams in the world. Neat. And this is like supposed to be a casual event. No, it's just not that anymore. It's it's super competitive. It's quite the sharp tank up here. We have some of the most like like definitely wonderful and nice to talk to, but also just they're just getting the reps in and the skill and this game is going up and up and up. When I get Tyler and I rolled up there trying to go three and own. We got smashed and got pushed back down to the fucking South South, South side of the Northwest. South side. Yeah. So you could find us at we have a Patreon as well too. We'll put Brandon's links in the show notes. Patreon.com/voxcast I'm at Peyton Keedminis on Instagram. Conor's at Span away on everything. Tyler's at Lowbrow Minis. CascadiaTableTop.com is where you can find information about our upcoming tournament. The CritCon 3 Killscreen 5 is over right now. So I'm counting. Yeah, go to that. Shout out to KillScream. I'm going I'm already going. I already got my ticket. I'm planning on going. I love going to this event. It's so much fun. Like you get people dressing up every year when we switched over to third edition. We took my sword and stabbed it through the second edition books. Yeah. We're always trying to do something and if the event gets loud you will hear me because I do not need a megaphone and I'm loud enough so that everyone will hear me. What weapon will Brandon almost kill himself with this year? Oh my God. That clip of me like you waving that axe around when I cut my hand. Nice. Well, like so one of them was on purpose right I touched my finger to it on purpose. The second one was not on purpose. I still have a scar on my hand and if you watch the video it's like a 13 14 second clip and I'm like waving it near my neck. It's like a couple inches from just cutting open my head. We're going to have to cut this out but we don't have to like get more insurance for the event or something. We're earning that. We're earning an hour in. No one's watching. No one's. No one's insurance provided. You know they ask a couple questions of like is there drugs that I'll call it the event? Any live music? Alright, have fun kids, you know. That's pretty it. Anyways, thank you all for listening. Sorry we don't have video tonight and also sorry that we don't have the bonus content for our Patreons. Make sure you vote in our discord. We're going to have an upcoming vote on what class I should play for Dark Tide also on when we should do the live stream to make up for the previous stream. We love you. Good night.

FAQs
Tacoma Open is a Warhammer event. The guests are Tyler, Connor, and Brandon, a top player who has won multiple Kill Team tournaments and coaches others.
Brandon is bringing Murder Wing because he kitbashed a team and wants to use them competitively, despite recent nerfs.
The nerfs removed the team's full charge and double swing abilities, but Brandon notes the changes didn't affect his optimal playstyle much.
He recommends relic lightning claws for reliability against elites, and a power weapon with plasma pistol against low-wound targets without invulnerable saves.
The Shrieker automatically stuns an enemy operative, reducing their APL, which allows easy retrieval of objectives and makes the team hard to counter.
He prefers Retrieval because it's reliable and scores points quickly, especially with the Shrieker's stun ability.
