In this episode of *Catholic Guilt*, hosts Peter Melnik and Eddie Wilson welcome JP Sorrow to discuss *Daredevil: Born Again* season 2, episode 6, "Requiem." The episode focuses on the fallout from Vanessa's death, with Kingpin's grief portrayed through a stark white funeral contrasted with black-clad attendees. The hosts highlight Vincent Denofrio's powerful performance, noting his award nominations and his ability to show Kingpin's human vulnerability, such as when he struggles to act normal. A major surprise is the return of Jessica Jones, revealed to be her daughter, which the hosts appreciate as a secret well-kept by Marvel, unlike the spoiled returns of Punisher and others. The episode also features intense scenes between Matt Murdock and Karen Page, where Matt argues vengeance isn't justice, and a brutal fight with Denofrio's character. The hosts compare the episode's style to *The Godfather* and Scorsese films, praising its cinematic influences. Additionally, the conversation touches on JP's podcast *The Lapsed Fan* and their coverage of the *Hulk Hogan: Real American* documentary, with JP sharing a humorous story about Hogan's beer signing event and his own accidental use of "brother." The episode ends with lighthearted banter about James Gandalfini's strange photos with SpongeBob and a recurring question about submarines.

Hi, this is JP Sorrow of the Lapsed Fan under the Cinemat and currently Dear Devil born again and you're listening to the Marvelists with Peter Melnik and Eddie Wilson. Welcome everyone to the Marvelists, the Marvel Universe podcast. I'm Peter Melnik. I'm Eddie Wilson. And joining us on the other end of the Tin Can and Sturing, we are joined with one of the co-chairmen of the Solar System. The Lapsed Solar System, Lapsed Fan, even. And the breakout star of Dear Devil born again, season two, episode six. We are joined with JP Sorrow, aka, you may know him as Doc Worker. JP, good evening. What would you want? Good evening. So this is Catholic Guilt, a Dear Devil Board again podcast and JP, if you have not listened to the show, the name of the show, there's a reason behind it. We call it Catholic Guilt because the joke was, my Catholic Guilt design never finished Dear Devil season three. So when we went into this, we went in blind and then Eddie went in blind on me and proceeded to binge watch the entire series before we recorded it. And I was like, you son of a bitch. I'm the only one that still hasn't watched this. Eddie's watched more Dear Devil than I have. But to me, you know, to be in all honesty, if you will, the earlier, the 2000 what, three Dear Devil movie, Ben Affleck's in the church. Oh, we just love the middle. So there's your Catholic Guilt stuff too. And then, you know, I can add in, I went to Catholic High School Catholic Junior High. So there's Catholic Guilt there. K through 12 right here, this guy, buddy. Okay. So I can confess, too. I've watched Dear Devil season one on Netflix and I've watched half of Born Again season one. Kind of because I had to. Did you watch in season one of Born Again? Did you see the scene with him crushing the guy's head? Oh, man, that's did spoilers, didn't I? I don't remember. I mean, that's very, very memorable. I feel like I must have, but I don't know what, you know what episode? The one where the guy's head was broken must have. I remember it definitely was halfway through. I think this season. So where the hands to the head. But in regards to, so you either, JP, you either didn't see it in all honesty or blocked it out of your memory, which might have been a better. Oh, man. It might have been, it might have been. So it's also appropriate we're having on because other than, you know, the character sensation of 2026, Doc Worker debuting in the MCU, I would like to also, you know, this is the same week as the release of ho ho, real American on Netflix, which is going to be probably leading to a lot more content from you guys for the complete Hulk Hogan over on the lap, or sorry, the complete ho ho on the laps fan. You know, honestly, it's funny you even say that because I just got an email from Jack saying, we're going to watch this and we're going to do it next week. Yes. Okay. That's so there we go. I'll have to watch it. I was planning on watching it, but I didn't know I had to rush job it. I was actually there for the ho ho signing at what's it called, one of the beer stores that he was doing for the real American beer and it was an absolute shit show. My favorite moment was a guy like selling Hulk, Hulk and toys. And by the way, it's Hulk Hogan, ladies and gentlemen. I just want you guys to know I'm not having an episode. There's the guy with a big bag of his figures and all this other stuff. And he's pricing over so much. He's he's I want also you to know that when I sit down sometimes, I've accidentally said whoof and I don't know why it's just that level of time. I mean, you know, there are times I do, I do when something kind of weird and out of a normal happens, I will say brother. And nobody and it's with strangers is with people who don't. I was doing a play earlier in the year and they, you know, usually it comes up that I do a professional wrestling podcast and I, you know, I have to go through the shame and pain of all that. And I try. I and for some reason, for some reason, it never came up with this cast. It never came up. And so I was like, great. Like I don't know if the fucking embarrass myself. Even though it's like, and I don't know, well, something embarrasses me though. Because I'm proud of what we do. I do love, I do love our show. But it's the explaining up. It's trying to say, you know, it's not just wrestling. It's like, you know, we do a smart show. It's, you know, we do a heavily researched show. And it's not just us being to, you know, complete losers. I mean, you know, to a degree, talking about wrestling and whatnot. Like there's a lot to it. And I was just like, so grateful. I didn't have to explain that. My favorite thing, by the way, with your Hulk Hogan, I was just thinking about is the, during total non-stop Hogan, which is one of my favorite deep dives, deep dives you guys have done, was him talking-- My least favorite. Oh, I only got to do what you got to do. It's so painful. I love him talking about vanity searching on Twitter. And who's a Dixie brother, like lives rent free in my brain. Who's a Dixie brother? I don't know why. It just, it kills me. So just why you know that? That's a live rent free for like the last two years. I just want to throw in. I love it. And they asked you JP, when you're saying randomly and, you know, without thinking about a brother, you're saying it in the right inflection? Well, it's always a question. It's always a concern. No question about that. But there's always, it's always brother. You know, it's something, something happens. And, you know, nobody else gets it. And that's why my whole point was like, I'm with this group of people. And I say brother out of nowhere and they're just kind of like looking at me like, what's that? Yeah. What that come out of your mouth? They're too young to know that. And they're also probably don't remember the old typewriter that was of that same name. It's still a thing. I just, my job. I just got a label at Maker by brother. Okay. That's fine. But if you said it more declaratively like brother, you know, then you're more assertive there, I guess. Just friends and family. Yeah. It's right. So Requiem, episode six. I just want to get the title out there. This operation is dealt an irrevocable blow. The resistance spills over. I just love the way into the street. Well, I wanted to make sure it came out right. Sorry for blowing out the mic just now, but man, oh man, that's not the only time you stop. You know, well, you know, where, where as at the end of episode five, somebody might have tried to been hold onto a glimmer of hope that Vanessa did not die. This kind of seals the deal with Wilson and Vanessa at Vanessa's bedside and the doctor coming. Now, let me just the weird part in here is the doctor saying something like the beautiful darkness or having the sad honor of sharing this moment and then the hug of death that I'm going to call it. Wow. I have to say Denoffri has been ordered. Denoffri in this series is such a stark contrast of everything that we've seen in the Marvel universe in terms of characters. Like I love this heavy ominous character and when he beats the shit out of Matt later on this episode by the rabbit and the snow painting. And that like you don't see those kind of emotions from a lot of the CGI glipelops that are, you know, Roman around in the Marvel universe. I don't know. There was just something about his performance in this all of this is it's a tour to force for him right now that well placed rage yells and but I did like when with that sequence that the Billy Club action bouncing around the walls and stuff. You guys know has he been nominated for any awards for Denoffri for doing this role? Well, let's go to Uncle Google. And send an offer. This is the live fact check and we have here ladies and gentlemen. Well, I'm going to throw in what I have written down as the next scene with the Vanessa Chute Church funeral, which is completely packed. It's an overhead view panning the crowd. Everyone is in black Wilson, of course, is in white and so is the casket. So it's kind of a it's literally a black and white contrast and the people. What do all the people know they're all white and you know, so that joke did not land. Anyway, so what kills me is I'm looking at his nominations. It's not like real like they're all awards and they are, you know, probably done by really wonderful people. But it's like, okay, critics choice super awards. Oh, that's that's cute. The IG and summer movie awards, you know, it's one step above the MTV movie awards. And then the Saturn. Is it above? Is it above? That's good. It's very slightly, you know, just just, you know, modicum, but not by much. But you know, well, he got the Teen Choice Award nominated for Jurassic World. I guess you played a T-Rex. I don't remember him in that movie. He's actually he's funny in that. He's funny in Jurassic World. He plays just a, you know, a dick. I want to see. I would love to see Kington meet Lapsdough or Lapsdough Vince. I think that would be a fantastic time. Oh, I believe we can we can arrange certain possibilities with a distinct awareness of determined outcomes. Would be quite the crossover. What would the synergy be? How much synergy? I believe there's, I believe that, you know, I believe that there's a lot of Kington in Vince McMahon. No question about it. I do wonder though, I would like to see Kingpin versus versus You know slim mustache vince sick man That's me honestly that that to me is the is has become the ultimate vince sick man look that Vince look for me Somebody called him vince Enzo and he nearly died like I I also love with the the lapsed events the legal our corporates speak I want to hear him throw in I'll be completely transparent like that I got from a I won't say the name, but a Marvel person had emailed me from Marvel And they use the phrase I will be completely transparent and I nearly died I'm like wow you really have been trained in the ways of the legal later the corporates Want to be I'm right. I'm putting it down now completely transparent Because you become a ghost Boo yep. Yep. Yep Awesome, but yeah with you know the whole Obviously the whole white you know white everything white everything. It's It's also just like I'm making a joke when I say what I'm about to say, but I'm completely serious too It represents the kingpin's mind like it's just white static. That's all it is, you know, yeah Sure, I know and it's just really showing you I think vividly the Contrast yeah, and who he is and what's happening and yeah, just again the total opposites When you have all colors combined into black and the total absence of color which would be white if I got those two two correct I did get the sense when the funeral music was playing and alternating with the other two scenes that were happening which would be of course Matt as Daredevil and Karen Paige index and he's recovering so to speak and then the AVTF scene and Again the music is pervasive throughout and I got a godfather movie since in terms of like I think it was the second movie I'm Not 100% sure when the baptism is taking place in the church, but yet all these other mobsters are getting killed First one first movie, but yes first one. Thank you. Okay. Mm-hmm. That's right And we all know it was not godfather 3 because no one's ever watched that movie will again I like I like the week out a little I need to see it I like to recap it it it focuses more on the On like it really jumps into the the the Vatican story line Which was always so I didn't really get how it all worked in the original cut of the movie Oh my it's it's better. It doesn't insist upon itself. No, I don't think so I was also going with the Peter Griffin of a it's just on itself I think it's it's funny because You see you see a lot you know obviously you know with all film and media. You know you're gonna have the influences This one I feel like a lot of people love this series because it does it pulls a lot of feeling and a lot of vibes From you know the Scorsese-y kind of movies from Coppola and whatnot and I kind of love the fact that again With the Marvel brand with the movies they do their damn just like you know try and get different feels of different movies You know what I mean like you like this kind of movie you're gonna love this one and it's got superheroes too so enjoy You know you can buy a t-shirt about this afterwards But I don't know like there's just like I love that you know they they've done their damnedest with especially like I would love to see it and it'll never happen but a Scorsese-y style king pin scene would be amazing to watch And just him going My favorite moment still is from season season one where he was talking about wanting to see I think a Hockberg and just him trying to be human and I love I love Denofrio's king pin when he's trying to be a human being of rat a normal human being and it's struggling like it's like oh yes Yes, I I love you too honey. Goodbye I'm thinking now you just reminded me of what we said other was the other season with Was it season three because you know I want to have an answer to that one no no he was trying to you know acclimate in society and He was being Presented with a group that was singing what was the song? How can we couldn't get it out of our heads when we first saw that oh my god? I know what you're talking about it was from last season Question mark when he first what was it when he first became mayor? I know what you're talking about. Yeah, they're you know School kids it almost reminded me of it's a comment. It's a familiar. Uh-huh not now though Yeah, clearly it kind of reminds me of in citizen Kane when the like Charles Foster Kane is like having his whole song and dance routine There is a man tata tata and it's like There is that element of him having his own song and just trying to be a showman now I want to see Charles Foster Kane meet king pin. I think that's great as well. I Two love snow gloves. It's like you know, it's and sleds rosebud. Mm-hmm But I think the next thing that I caught my attention I wrote down was the the home of taxi and I didn't realize and this is where I Missed something in the series that preceded about the scene with with the return of Jessica Jones. Yes. Yes I'll be honest like Really happy to see her back. I think you know she is a fantastic actress and she Knox it out of the park in every single performance. She's in with this character and I think because if she she was not in her Black leather jacket that I thought that this was some kind of a flashback because she looked a little younger to me and Not realizing right away. This was her daughter But I'm missing whatever series got us to this point that yes, she has a daughter a wherever old she is Delivering in a house in suburbia and with ever this time devices and just a barrier. That's my favorite Rihanna song saves save the I guess saves us from going kaboom. No, that's Marvin the Martian. That's completely different. That is very yeah. Well whatever Cross promotion. No One direction promotion. Okay. I love the fact that you know once you see okay the daughter and her once you realize oh I wonder who the father is. Huh? I wonder and then they've been doing such a I love when Marvel will like surprise us with some stuff like Not many people knew Daredevil was gonna be in spider-man No way home. Mm-hmm. They you know no one expected that We're spoiling it by saying hey guys the punisher's coming back. You want to see some behind the scenes footage? Hey the cast like Jessica Jones is there with Luke Cage and Iron fist and They just like completely spoiled it like whereas like this it could have been like Wait a minute. Is he coming back? No, we know we know Michael Coulter is gonna be coming back So putting the band together. Mm-hmm. That's right blues brothers We have one of two scenes that are pretty intense with Matt and Karen and it's over bust. It's Dexter Der that's it Buster Dexter. Yeah, yes point. Yeah, Buster point Dexter I love that Toyota's hot hot hot, but But the line that I remember and jot it down was was Matt saying to Karen that vengeance isn't justice But she's a different person now. She says she grew up She's a big girl now. She's all grown up now. Mm-hmm. I'll try to remember Stephanie McMancy But sort of growing up we go we we have the Vanessa I'm gonna say reception and Daniel and BB interacting and you know She's wanting to take him out for his birthday and she even says something like you want to go to flash dancers? I'm like Gandalfini as Daniel is again, I keep saying in every episode. He is doing a bang-up job with that, but it's like Did you expect to see a Gandalfini involved with anything Marvel because I did not everything this would happen? Because one's dead. Well, I don't know if you guys know that I would have oh really when you don't I didn't even know it was sick I would say I would I would I would I would I think Gandalfini the elder Gandalfini could have could have been a Potential kingpin I do see hadn't died. Okay, you know, I think he could have been in there I think he could have been in the mix. I think he I wouldn't doubt that he would be in the mix at some point I think I think any It seems like Marvel They do love to get heavy hitters for some really great Parts and especially with villains when they when they do a villain right within much Terry reason - right Right, but I I would I would not have been surprised if he somehow if he had found his way in Do you think he would have brought along his close personal friend SpongeBob based on all those photos they have together? Look up James Gandalfini and SpongeBob. It is like it is a rabbit hole like I want to know like the relationship He had like with every single SpongeBob like he has fun like he Squeezes the nose for no reason. It's like what are we doing here? It's just there. It's like calling itself squeeze me Now you gotta be looking to shut up. What? James Gandalfini Spondy what is what is this like what this is bizarre? This is uncomfortable He's a little too close to SpongeBob. There we go another non-returning guest to the Marvelist. He also has I like being uncomfortable. There's also a photo. I want to come to believe there's a photo Oh, could you imagine lapse of incident meeting Gandalfini was SpongeBob the Big fan of the branos love that Tell us in programming or part of it's on point The limo exploded. I you know, we're just ideas here, pal. We go with that. We take ideas from various forms of entertainment, and we put it in our entertainment. I'm also a multitude of entertainment. I'm a big fan. It's us Moses. I'm a big fan of the behind-the-matte scene of him just chewing water. It's still like top three favorite events moments of all time. There's nobody in the world who consumes water like that. Like, how is he eating water? How do you eat water? That's how you enjoy your steak wrap. If we take cheese and vegetable and rice and bean wrap. Now, damn, I got the culture. I believe, well, I didn't know that was a burrito. I didn't know we were eating Mexican today. We just went to a wrap place, a wrap artist. Well, I'm going to look in at City Hall next, and there's protesters outside the Vanessa. Does that mean that Chipotle sandwich or Chipotle person is a wrap artist? I think that's the thing you got to start using that. Chipotle, you got to start calling your wrap artist. I don't know what you call them. You're not cooked, but whatever you are, you're putting your food putter together, they're wrap artists. When they're only making burritos, not when they're making bowls and. No, right. Well, those are bowls. No, I think that has to prompt the question. I Peter used to ask every single guest. Oh, yes. Have you ever been in a submarine? Have I ever been in a submarine? Only at Subway. Just making sure. And that qualifying season does. That's okay for that answer. I got to ask that to Vincent Denofriot technically. Oh, my. I played the video for you. Yeah. A friend of mine, a friend of the show, independent wrestler Ben the Bean ended up asking him that at a panel and him and Charlie Cox were vehemently confused. But Denofriot had an immediate answer. Yes, I have. It's like, "Oh, yep, you sure have." And I stand by it. His Twitter account is the greatest Twitter account of all time because it's like a AMA for a guy that has been in a coma for 30 years because he will answer any question. I've asked him if he's. What he thought of Liam Neeson is Gwagon Jin. If he's ever watched the show, Wings and. That's tremendous. He's never watched Wings by the way for the record. Wow. Not a big fan of Tony Shaloub. Tony Shaloub was on Wings, right? He was. I don't know if I can season on. Something like that. I would love to. I would love to. I would love to. I would love to start a rumor that Vincent Denofriot hates Tony Shaloub and originated here. Just doesn't like my. I heard it. I heard it. I heard it. I heard it said. I just remember the other Wings character who went on to become the Sandman. Yeah. Oh wait, that sounds like March Simpson. And I know Blankin because it's like three first names. Oh, come on. Thomas Aiden, Cherich. Thank you. Oh, yeah, that's Sandman. Yes. Not the one who just lost the invisible man. But we did lose to the invisible man or not. I'm trying to remember. In what? The rest of the Sandman. Oh, I don't. He just retired and I'm happy because he gets to go off and you know, go back to doing what he loves best, voicing March Simpson on the Simpsons. And who does bizarre cameos from who's like a screened in porch? I love that man. He's the ultimate cardie. I got a photo. Not as good as the Kevin Nash cameo. I did a panel with Kevin Nash. Yes. Are absolutely. They can be. We got one. I got one because I was asking about, I don't remember what I asked about. I asked him about a movie, I think. And for, for, um, Senator. And he went on this crazy 15. It was a 15 minute cameo. And he just went on and on. And he talked about politics and went way off the deep end. I mean, he was clearly high. Couple one too many, uh, uh, uh, uh, sort of like going on there. And um, it was just, it was incredible. It was so great. I, I, I, it was one of the most entertaining things I've ever heard. Because it's just like, you know, you just talked to 10 minutes, 10 to 15 minutes to a stranger who bought something. You, you, this is greatest, greatest ROI in the history of it. No question. 10 to 15 minute cameo. That's a violation. That's like an oxymor like jumbo shrimp or something. Or, or now it is a quick question. You know, I got a cameo from RJ city for my mom. And he just randomly started talking about Van Johnson for no reason. He proceeds to talk about a letterman interview. I'm like, yeah, we'll watch it tonight, mom. So it was fun. Well, I just brought up that scene with the protesters at city hall because I heard one of them say that Vanessa was part of the problem. And maybe you had to think a second. Have you looked at her? He'll, well, not any more than part of the, but yeah, oh, because she's dead. Uh-huh. I didn't even know she was sick. Yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah, I did the same job twice, folks. What are you going to do about it? Go on the roof with Daredevil and Jessica Jones. There's a line that I'm not sure who they're referring to, but Jessica's telling Matt there a guy called interested in people like us. And she told him the f off. I'm not sure who she was referencing per se. If you, if you caught that, although I did like the fact that Daredevil said that he could tell by her breathing that she had a cracked rib. I don't know that's still from one of the seasons of Jessica. I think I still carry through, but I think it was a chase Richard. Oh, wait, that's the other wrestling podcast I was to do that. I wish you weren't in references too. But it's deadlock or a laugh fan, folks. That's all for me. Just say, oh, right. Y'all are pretty good. Pretty damn good. All right. So we have the warehouse fight and, you know, Kaboom is what happens. But during the fight, Jessica hits and I forgot the character's name. Primary AVTF guy who seems to have, I don't know, a steel jaw. When she hit him, he was like unaffected. The main AVTF guy looks like Ben Shapiro. And I laugh my ass off every single time I see him on the show. Every single time. Hey, VTF. Yeah, that one too. Um, he looks just like Ben Shapiro. I'm just like, I left my ass off because I'm like, he's lame too. Oh my god. But, you know what? You're absolutely right. He does. Does any? And he's got the stupid eyebrows. Yeah. Although now, Ben Shapiro has got the groucho marks, I breath, which rules so much. I want the duck to pop out of the ceiling. Yeah, JP, I'm a 37 year old man making references of an 85 year old man. So it's pretty great. Um, works for me. Well, the disturbing part that I saw that happened there was the confrontation or the discussion involving the psychiatrist Heather Glenn. And, uh, yeah, what's his name again, too? Kind of going hurt to reenact the muse attack with the choking scene. And I swear, I'm sorry, if I'm going off the rails with this one, but if you close your eyes and you heard her breathing and her, with positivity going off the rails on this podcast. Wow. Never thought that would happen before. Yeah. Yeah. Somebody's got to drive the train. I guess I'm either conductor. Every time I hear trains, I think that goddamn road where you're at. Hawk promo. How does he say it? He goes, um, look who's driving the train. Oh, yeah. Oh my god. Chug a chug a train. Well, you do a good one. I like that. But if you recall the scene that I'm talking about here, she's getting more intense and more into the role. I wasn't worried that she was actually going to choke him, but she was just so emotionally involved in this. I swore that there was going to be a high level emotional kiss or something like that. I was going to be like, guys, do you want to make out? They're going to lock lips. They're going to swap spit. They're going to kind of make their love. Oh no, I don't know about that. It was just the love. It borderline. It really does turn into a carol channing halfway through the impression. Oh, you guy. I only learned this from Peter. If you got to understand this, I don't know, you know, my nerd impression is literally just stolen from what do you call it? Robo check and so that's all it is. And then it like it delved into carol channing and it's like how my my standly true believe us. It's just Gilbert Godfrey, you know, like subdued. Yeah. Listen, I don't mind. I think that's great. I like the idea of doing, you know, an impression of carol channing being a nerd voice. Like that to me is incredible. The same thing. Gilbert Godfrey doing a standly, that's where the money is right there. Not just doing a standly or a Gilbert Godfrey. You got to do Gilbert Godfrey doing a standly. Hey, this is Eric Olpowl, carol channing. I'm a big fan of the J.M. Michael Schruzinski, run of Babylon 5. And who doesn't love the AC Connor run of the Star Wars? Now it was about Han Solo. The true idea. Paradei Kner. That's sitting on my bookshelf. That's why I know that's so readily believe it. I don't know why you know. No, it's actually AC Crispin. I forgot to mention that AC Connor. That's actually Tilo Brown's real name. I just remember that. Hmm. I think this is the first for me to be witnessing a carol channing impression. And I'm thrilled about this. Thank you. You're also going to be mentally scarred from it. So there you have no idea. Well, I'm going to have to somehow, I'm going to have to develop one and bring laps to the next one. Laps Carol Channing left chatting I'm Talking about now. I don't know if I want to get on the mat on your show. What? We digress. I don't want to take your show like I take mine every week Oh ours has many taints and all right I'm gonna queue up that soft sell record now tainted love Rich by the way fun fact that's a cover of a pre-existing R&B song from the 1860s. Uh-huh, uh-huh Yeah, you know that I don't need to I don't need to enlighten you about it Oh, when you go to the expanded version instead of the 20-half minute version you have where did our love go from the supreme? Yes, that's in there. I didn't know that was where to our love. Yes, that's and of course I know you know that because you're in the we're in a radio station Yes, we are so fun fact. There's actually a gentry's 45 hanging behind Eddie. Sorry. Keep on. No It's not the gentry's yeah I don't think that's back there. Do you took it down? There's Freddie and the dreamers I'm telling you now. Well, you keep on dancing That's why I gave Jimmy heart your information There you go. That's correct Having a live existential crisis when you got like 45 45s hanging up here it gets a little bit like, huh? What where okay? I didn't map them out. I just put them up on the look nice. They do They don't play as well as the use of book. That's that's what yard sales are for. I got some else. This one's the other day Oh, thank you very much. Well, mama To the fairies. This is not only fairie now BB and Daniel. She is accompanying him to terrible Adam West impression His mothers and and this whole thing about dropping bait that Fisk isn't running for reelection I I want to stay for the record. I love the fact that they go to long. I I mean they go to Staten Island and I wanted like her to go Oh, I love Love Staten Island. I love the impractical jokers. Oh Or something like that somebody would get a royalty. That joke is much funnier in my head in the initial planning of that one I think about that all the time. I want to put together promotion. That might suck But no in my mind these things are awesome. Would they come out on sound on tape on audio? It's another story on taint Taint did here we go again. Yep. Okay So back to Dex waking up. It's another discussion to say the least with Matt and Karen And and we get to the part where she is going to kill him But daredevil stops her. That's my dating life. Yeah, they all might kill me Uh-huh, uh-huh. Yeah, you don't agree with that Eddie Delicious there is something I wanted to mention when we get to this point now we're job 40 well, let's see 51 minutes was the episode about 40 minutes into it We're finally gonna have to actually daredevil daredevil We're gonna have the daredevil kingpin confrontation of course after we see the anti-fisk rally um and the some of the protesters have daredevil masks It's of course a nighttime scene, but we get to like I said about 40 minutes in these two guys are about to go at it and finally Because I just realized until we got to this point that kingpin actually Wilson fisk actually does speak He hadn't really up until this point. I'm not surprised you're there Murdoch Yep or here or yeah, that yeah So I don't think we could have gone a whole and the whole nice effect of um Daredevil silhouette horned head up against fisk Shiny head. I you know going back to the protesters I love the the visual of the daredevil helmets. Yeah, you know, I think that is the idea like There's something very special that like it's all It's a less plastic Less plastic consuming guy fox mask. That's how I see it. It's so much less material have to be used But it's like you know, that's the character they can you know In the world of Marvel like that's gonna be you know the representative of this and this because everything else is like The you know, they're not the little guy like spider-man could might be the next closest thing, but he's god damn menace um And you know like oh boy. I can't wait to you know kiss corporate ass with iron man hooray I like and again like some of these characters like they're borderline folk heroes in that marvel universe like captain america is a borderline folk hero That's the end that thank you for coming to my tech talk um To know where to go with the rest of that thought so here we are Okay, so But city hall again the protest escalates Sonders get shot because um and I forget his name again the main the main AVTF guy finds out But I the line that really Kicks it into the big fight scene with Wilson and Matt is Matt saying imagine if we never met So he snaps into this rage and of course we're alternating scenes here now dig if you will a picture yeah And fisk punching the brick wall and those bricks falling oh wow and and he did hurt himself that with that But it was just such a powerful you know punch Who's missed out on but not watched all the entire series or franchise really um Is he get super powers no he's just fat he's just fat so yeah listen I'm a little overweight myself I can't punch the fucking bricks Now that attitude mister you're right you're right it's all mental. I'm sorry We'll cry now it's it's funny because you know with that character like he Such a beast and I can't not not the blue variety ha ha um but I love I love oh for god six knives I love Because he did that one point sometimes if they did it in doomsday when he shows up I would just love to hear oh for god six knives and then you start talking about you know smooth jazz and a nice chart in it Oh, hi or if you have a radio show that would be kind of happy Oh, oh yeah, oh my god, I just almost choked I love though What's what's it called with uh He's slowly ramped up the violence of who he is as a character is it like you know The boxing episode is still like It I don't know why just him in that boxing outfit reminded me of that loony tunes cartoon where umber fun is boxing deffy duck I also would have loved it Well, yeah, maybe but I did right but but that whole slowly ramping up to the No, we're just seeing different elements of where he's uh, you know Exerting and influencing he's he's you know showing Though you've agreed the level of violence that he can get into I My favorite thing about that daffy duck com or daffy duck cartoon with elmer boxing I wish they did the the fight intros in that style too of like friend to all And loves his mother will sin fisk and his opponent some asshole Just the bias and emphasize half his weight Ah half the nerve. I don't know. Oh my god. I just the other thing with Finishing this this whole fight scene was we have the uh it's a daredevil leap Slow-mo and his knee lands into fisk's jaw that kind of brings him down And then he does say what are you going to do rest me you cannot kill me you will not That's all I got I'm the mayor. Ah, I love New York That would be a good shirt design With the eye my face and the NY no part in there I am New York And to end I'm damn it Hey once in a while you know and then we have in the Protests scene now Karen whose I guess lost her disguise order which is essentially a wig and our our main guy again Who draws a weapon on her in the episode ends with him saying holy poop Karen effing page. He didn't actually say poop or effing that is correct sight in the sideways, but it's me Wilson no Goldie the mayor Killing Didn't expect that when did you great scottah 21 jigger wants this The Libbyans Marty The Libbyans But yeah overall it was a fun episode you know there were some great you know great benefits including you know the debut of a certain dock worker which I enjoyed I think the greatest unsung character in the history of Marvel. Well, can we get character fine in 19 uh, I mean 20 It's 26 I almost went somewhere else. I almost went with Robin. That's why the character finds sensational character find uh, cover Eddie Okay, I'm as DC. Sorry. Oh, was that what okay? The distinguished competition. Just just JP if I could ask what the backstory of getting this role and you know that kind of stuff Yeah, where the hell are coming from? Oh, yeah So I mean it was it was it was simple. It was just an audition It actually the second it was the second audition. I've gotten for a Marvel show Um, it's funny, you know, they say you know when you get the audition Because they are so secretive right and they say um They call it untitled Marvel series. Yeah, and it's like okay. I mean Obviously, they're trying to be secretive. I think get that but it's like also okay let me see I can figure out what it is and and then they kind of give it away which I mean they kind of had to but they give it away actually no I'm sorry as a third time Marvel likes me third time actually audition for Marvel I'm waiting for my big my you know my movie my movie contract that's what I want but I'll take the TV for now but maybe steps you know that may say in the you know for reference you can watch you know because they were this was last year by the way I don't know if I said that on my Instagram but this happened a year ago they were filming this while season one was airing and I am and they say you know for reference season one of the show sort of airing in March and it's like well why don't you just see what the show is at that point I mean you're telling me where it is like and and what started and when it started like I know exactly what you're talking about like why can't you just say it's their devil like you know I'm going to figure it out yes and so I just I sent a tape and you know I just I sent a tape and what I you know what I did was they they said in the in the breakdown for was like you know do a do a like a confessional type tape and I'll be okay and I decided to have a little more for me fun with it and the guy talks about the the the monologue that I that I had talks about being a dad and I was like okay well you know what I can I can ask him fun with this like you know it's an emotional monologue I'm going to take a picture of me and my daughter and I'll put that on there and I'll use that as a prop and stuff and you know I just did that and then I got the call I got the call that I got the job and I didn't really know I got an idea as to what was going on I didn't really know like what it happened you know and why we were captured or whatever in cages I guess okay sure I don't know how that all I don't know how I don't know how it played on the series I haven't I haven't actually you know I haven't watched you know but where there are people locked in cages or caves or something they were at the end of yeah the first season of okay including okay Frank Castle okay all right so that that that kind of that that clear that up and you know I went in for a costume fitting like a couple days before we shot and I gotta tell you I don't you know I don't know how familiar you guys are or listeners are with studios like sound stages and and and where and where they shoot movies and TV shows but it's it's in LA if you guys have an LA I'm sure you guys have long time ago yeah long time ago but like in Los Angeles it's like it's big like they have these grand movie studios and it's like that even even the smaller rinky dink like stage rentals they're still like they're pretty big like they're pretty obvious in New York it's like in the most in the roughest neighborhood you'll find a studio or sound a series of sounds it's so wild to me like you there you'd never know unless you were unless you were given an address and said here I'm gonna go I'm gonna shoot here they were doing what's a call fallout season one in New York and I had a friend that was working on a crew for that yeah and you know fun fact also the the the lake I guess in fallout that is Jackie Marling from who how would stern his yeah that's his yeah that's his that's his backyard wow yeah that's wild yeah that's really funny okay JP reminded me though when you said untitled Marvel series I remembered about five years ago talking to actor David Hilstein who and was and or is a Sullivan County resident here and he had a small part in I don't know if it's the first defenders it was defenders or in the R&F series defenders and he was a I guess a hotel concierge concierge or bell hop type of the S small role when Dan will ran checked in somewhere would have engraved his like a 1930s bell hop he's got a little hat on his little button down thing could be yeah yeah I haven't seen it yet but I'm I'm getting there so yeah I get it when yeah secrecy and not you know that was what he and he really didn't have much in terms of a comic book background knowledge better but it was still you know trying to get into this professions career whatever do you think when it comes to like casting people for some of these things they want to go for the people that don't really have a knowledge of it kind of like how in pro wrestling it's like hey you want to sign you want to write for us you shouldn't hate all of this shit I think it's the opposite actually where they want to get the opposite I think they really I mean you know we're doing on our on our show on our our movie version under the cinemat we're doing we're doing the the first the infinity saga of the marvel of the marvel cinemat universe in case you're wondering what that means for under the cinemat for those who don't know me it means that every movie that we do on that we review on under the cinemat has to have some sort of wrestling connection to it so it's with the wrestling laps fan part of the equation there and the entire infinity saga has wrestling connections which is really that but they do they have wrestling connections and uh big data you know we're we at least I'll say at the beginning you know we we're we're we're right up to the the first Avengers movies our next is our next one and we um what I've discovered is that they really love people who know the product they want people to know the product because that that's fiege's mo with it he wants he he he thinks that the books are just laced with great stories that if they have any doubts just go back to the books at least again that's early early fiege jp I don't know yet I would like to point out I'd like to point out that in regards to how you and I are both so wrestling coded the whole thing of referring to something as the product the products it's such a wrestling tervin I know that too I'm like oh yeah yeah yeah I would think it's perfect if another area is too but I was thinking that you know the fallacy might be here is not eddy eddy fallacy what do we talk about I didn't say foul it knit wit the the the uh problem maybe if it's on the other side of the spectrum so to speak is if you know too much about it then you wind up like Simon Williams rewriting scenes when he's auditioning for this part wouldn't be better if it was this way and then you know you're out you're out of a job or something right right stay in your lane I don't know yeah I'd you know I'm you obviously got to have your your checks and balances yeah people to make sure you're not going completely overboard which you know I I don't know what it's like over there great goldie hon movie at marla checks and balances no going overboard oh overboard yes absolutely another one another way to lose your memory go overboard okay oh man now I wish checks and balances was a goldie hon movie that would be tremendous stay tuned um we'll get right on that uh yeah what I'll put it in there I'll be I can I'll tell you one thing too that I thought was very funny when I went in I don't know if it was for my costume fitting or uh or for the actual shoot it was there's a poster out there to talk about NBA is that it it it it says like coming soon to actually I took a picture of it I mean the document they they they um what did you do to screw this up you had a whole franchise yeah the doc worker like doc man sounds fine too so like a marvel a Marvel security film NBA have you signed yours and like they have like they got they got betista and Karen Gillan and Paul Rudd to like pose for like a movie poster that doesn't actually exist but they they're like this is you know they have a movie poster to sign your NBA it's really hilarious so we go the day that I that I got there to actually shoot um it is a huge stage a huge stage they had multiple sets how big is it so big wow somebody got it oh my god it's a mini village so big I mean they had they had feetly had three three or four steps going on at the same time and including a really cool car set with a blue screen my about a blue screen like green screen it was a screen and uh and stuff so um and the I mean I can brag about this I think that the uh I've never had I've been in in all my days I've never had a a director come up and say hey I'm first of all introduce themselves privately in like go to go to the actors dressing rooms and introduce themselves that I've never I've never heard of that before and I've never had that happen to me before. And she came into the room and we just wanted to introduce herself and love said she loved my audition I was like, okay, this was was very whoo It's kind of nerve wracking positive reinforcement. Yeah, well at least it sounds like it's better You know maybe things with again respect to the studio the size, etc. All that's come away since I don't know 50 years ago or so and like in 74 when blazing saddles came out and they were fighting their way through all the different sets and studios and butts and And and you know what at least she's not like William Freed can slap me across the stage to get the get the uh Oh, I gotta do the emotional quality that she wants snap out of it. I Slap to priest that's still an actual priest. I Love Billy Freed get I love that shit talking compilation. Oh My god, he's he is such a he's he's a man of this time. I was a man of this time. He's the Harlan out what I he's the Harlan Allison of directors The brutality that he would put his actors through at least the 70s. I don't know what happened afterwards But at least my favorite line from Billy Friedman Friedkin is uh, I Don't give a fly fuck through a rolling donut. It's just such a great line He's so good. I miss him. I wish I had met absolutely fantastic And so yeah, I filmed this monologue, you know, basically the same monologue. They had some changes. They didn't give all the dialogue in the You know, they again, they didn't want to give away certain things in the the audition sides Like it was it was the guv it I was talking about the governor in the audition versus the you know I'm talking about fish and in the actual Recording like the actual the actual scene and so we just they filmed everybody just want to you know one after another we're just filming these these little testimonials and it was It's so fast. I just never had a day like that. I was I was I usually plan on if I'm if I'm if I'm looking up to get a TV gig I I'm I'm planning on being there the whole day. I'm figure you're gonna keep me there all Hours the entire damn day and I'm prepared for that tell my family that like don't count on me for anything like I'm gone this day like you have to do everything about me that that's what I had heard even as long time ago as even when I was in college and There was a word out about you know, casting call their look for extras I for some reason I think it was for all the time one of my teachers in college was an extra in Crocodile Dundee towards the end of the movie in the subway scene and they and he's probably I think he was recognizable because he's relatively tall It was Paul who Paul hit lots of knife. Oh, yes Another ho again Wow, I wonder if there are brothers, you know So I understand that you know devoting the whole day and you know you get fed But and maybe you get 50 bucks or something like that for the whole eight hours whatever it is real quick When was crocodile Dundee when did that come out again? 8788 so Did outpack jack's character get like thrown to the way because he thought he was gonna get buried you thought it was a Paul Hogan Brother Kharthel only one what I want to go to do we go on. Well, they don't know of wrestling only as one royal Logan And one down oh no, look at one nervous Who's a croc? Yeah, I know that's right. No, it's just right I've um I've done and this is so it's so snotty and and I apologize for sounding snotty I won't do extra work every game. It's so fucking awful. It's awful. It's so I will take I will take one line Parts because I get you get treated with respect Extras are just dog shit and they are just they're treated like it's just awful It's it's so and you aren't even guaranteed to be used, you know I did a law and order I was an extra for a law and order episode a long time ago and I just sat there I didn't know that used I just sat there all day. I actually did laughs fan work while I was there You know, I did law a lot bunch of laughs fan stuff and and I was never never used and it's like I just can't you know Justin Wang, right? Mm-hmm. So Justin Wang. He's a youtuber. He's done the show before too and he's like He's also like a big wrestling guy. Yeah, he got a yada. Yeah, he does extra work and like he's shown up on a Gotham and like he's got you know The hipster like kind of handle bar mustache looking thing Okay, he shows up in things all the time and like he does extra work, but I don't know What you know that entails too, but I've heard stories of like yeah, you know extra work is Yeah There's a there's a certain amount of fun being there right away, you know, I think oh Ron set the benefits like you're You're you're just wrangled you're just wrangled and I'm like I don't like it just it It made me feel the last time I did it. I just felt really Up like hollow inside. I was like I just can't I can't do it anymore like I love man the Kevin Bacon movie. Oh my Well, I think we do have a Sullivan County resident who who has done some long order work. It was quite some time ago his name is Oliver King And so that reminded me that right there while Oliver Platon Jimmy King There we go Making all the reference. I'm fucking loving this. Oh fine I will find any way to show her an interesting and ready to rumble references much as possible We're not gonna take it anymore What I think I remember what I was saying well you're working along the extras You're not gonna do any extra work anymore not to sound snappy, but you sound perfectly healthy. Oh Eddie Eddie I can't take that one. I can't take that one. I edit that out. Please. Yeah I love that I got a guest to do a boo on Eddie's just now that was great. I love the bush. It's Halloween season before you know it. Oh Eddie Jesus I'm taking the headphones off Hey Catholic guilt see that Jesus came in play already then there we go Wow closes the door for men do It forgot your hat you didn't come in with one of course you forgot it This is what I have to work with Kids and dogs kids and dogs you know I can't win them all I didn't even enter Wow, oh Get tired of booing me to boom so yeah I was saying boons I know I so I was I was out before lunch. I didn't even get fucking lunch Well, that's why they got you out before lunch to nip the feet. You probably what it was They were like we're not feeding these clowns. Uh-uh. All right. Get the film. There's anything get him out of here I've never I've never filmed something that fast before that I was out before lunch I'm like I can't get my free meal out of this I got breakfast which is fine, but like come on. I want a carving station I would have loved to have seen you know if it's if it's on par with WWE catering with you know the uncrustables I love that I know that one Well, I court according to Kevin Nash they have that catering at least for Hall of Fame ceremony Who yeah that you see that? I think you shared about that on his podcast that they he had they had like crappy catering for the Hall of Fame ceremony That WrestleMania it's a magical time Yeah, oh, yeah You can get if you get Kevin Nash talking about food and directions you you want me over All right, I'm thrilled. I want to know how he get this guy is a is a living is a living atlas No, it's Tony everywhere to go Charles I was going Tony Alice Yeah, you would That are step two at Tony Atlas Foot fetish references anyway, oh wow I love that video of him getting punched in the head by that woman Merry Christmas Jesus Christ I think that's gonna wrap this episode up for today. I believe we're gonna end it on a high note with Tony I was getting punched in the High note all right I didn't get in the balls but so ever So that leaves two to go two episodes left Yeah, the heat full darkness and the Southern cross and Eddie guess what the week after they have that Easy for me to say Punisher yeah, huh you forgot about that one because you were saying be I can't do this damn like well Eddie Guess what I thought it was a no something else next wealth in the You got dare to let's come into one last shot or something It's like oh because he's not gonna shoot in the spider-man thing Because it's a child and you don't want to shoot the child you do not by all means a small boy Correct Yes, I know where's mom of this I look at that ball go Keeps going yeah, but that gets an awkward cough. You have no oh, oh, you have no idea I feel like awkward yeah, this show should have way more awkward coughs than it does I'm more Mike blow out than that geez. Oh, you're right So how about that local sports team so um our IP Vanessa hmm I didn't even know she was sick no no no joke on that joke until the glass object was out of the temple overhead.
