Why We Need to Embrace the 24 Team Playoff + Week 8 Preview | The BFW Show 10.21.26
1h 5m 2s
Brandon Walker’s College Football Show delivers a detailed and passionate analysis of the college football season, focusing on playoff dynamics, key matchups, and team viability. He argues that college football is inherently a tournament sport, where teams must prove themselves on the field through competition, not through voting or computer rankings. The host challenges the belief that expanding the playoff to 24 teams undermines the regular season, asserting that the sport’s spirit—rooted in fan passion and small-town intensity—remains intact. He highlights several games, including Indiana vs. Michigan and LSU vs. Auburn, analyzing player performances, potential upsets, and team momentum. The discussion also touches on Heisman race contenders, with multiple players still in contention despite early-season setbacks. Walker emphasizes the growing depth of playoff contention across all major conferences, noting that many teams remain in the mix through late October. The episode blends analysis with promotional content, featuring Stella Blue Coffee, Venmo debit cards, and Ryobi tools, reinforcing the show’s engaging mix of sports insight and lifestyle integration. Overall, the show champions the authenticity and excitement of college football, advocating for a playoff system that rewards on-field performance rather than political or algorithmic decisions.

All right, hello, Brandon Walker, College Football Show, live on a Wednesday night.
Still trying to figure this thing out. I do like Wednesdays better. We go live a little bit later
on Wednesday night, trying to create a chaotic feel, but really letting Pick'em get out of the
way. Pick'em being the longest-serving team in the world. Pick'em being the longest-serving team
just running, you know, college football-related show here at Barstool.
We let it – it drops every Wednesday at 6.
So the idea is we go after that, and we just kind of fill this gap right here
and build our audience from here a little later night on Wednesday nights.
You know, we could change.
We'll see what we got.
But that's what we got.
Hello, Blutman.
Hey, Bram Walker of the Bram Walker College Football Show.
How are you doing?
Not – listen, listen.
If every week of the college football season was a model
in the Victoria's Secret fashion show, this week of games would be –
would need to go on the treadmill and lose some pounds.
Let's get hot.
It's not the most attractive week is what I'm trying to say.
It's as – and we got November 7th coming up, which looks incredible.
Halloween looks pretty good.
And then this week is just kind of, you know, just kind of existing,
just waddling down the –
Mm-hmm.
Waddling down.
Waddling down the catwalk, looking at about, you know, 5'9", 240.
Hey, everybody.
How's everybody doing?
Chat, come on in.
How's it going, big customer?
Love the show.
Thank you, Danny D.
Teddy Westside's here.
Sports Gambler X, that shirt is Halloween.
Thank you very much.
Get on in here, everybody.
Kurt Jackson, BFW's my favorite person on Barstool.
Thank you very much.
But I want him to stop pissing all over the Yaks brilliance, then fucking leave.
I don't give a fuck what you think.
So, everybody, thank you for being here.
Thank you.
Thank you for being here, and we're going to talk college football.
We got the Ball Watchers Guide coming up in a minute.
We will go over this week's games.
We'll have the upset alert.
We'll have the game of the week.
We'll have the player to watch.
We'll have all of these things.
This show is, in fact, and I'm sorry to say, it is prerecorded.
We prerecorded this Wednesday morning, so I apologize.
Tank2837 says, so this week of college football is like a nine for Mississippi.
Well, that's where you guys truly show.
You don't know ball, because if you think women in the South,
nines from the South aren't tens everywhere else,
you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
I promise you, if you walked into Oxford, Mississippi, or Starkville, Mississippi,
you would shit your pants.
That would fucking drive you crazy.
The Tommy Carr era starts as M-Salter 14.
Yep.
L prerecorded.
Yep.
OSP, the OG.
We're prerecorded.
I apologize.
Sucks.
We'll take the L's, man.
We will take the L's.
We are.
Certainly prerecorded, and it stinks, and I apologize for that.
M-Salter 14, OG listener.
Yeah, I remember Michael Salter from the Necessary Roughness Days.
I appreciate that.
Anyway, fellas, this might only be a 15-minute episode.
Not going to be a 15-minute episode.
We're going to go at least an hour.
All right, here we go.
I would like to talk about a clip I saw from a college football media personality today.
I would like to talk about that.
I would like to talk about that clip, but to talk about that clip, I have to play that
clip, and when I say I have to play that clip, I mean producer Lukey Blutman has to play
that clip.
Lukey Blutman, please play that clip.
College football is not a tournament sport, firstly.
Secondly, football is not basketball.
Thirdly, I don't watch college basketball in December for that very reason.
The tournament has taught me I don't need to watch it because it's a tournament sport.
So, like, some of us look at it, and we don't do the 0-100.
We don't do the 0-100.
I'm not sitting here saying a 2014 playoff destroys the regular season.
No, it doesn't.
It cheapens it.
It lowers the urgency on the biggest games, and some of us, I think a lot of us, feel
that we've already got a playoff in college football.
We've had it for a long time.
It just doesn't have the sticker on it, but various Saturdays in the fall have that vibe.
The sport, if it's run properly, feels like a playoff all year long.
I do.
I do understand.
See, there's some nuance here.
I hate, like, 90% of the 2014 playoff as a concept.
There are 10% just here and there that I like about it, but on the whole, it sucks, and
people lie about it.
If you just look at me and say, you know what?
I'm a Minnesota fan.
I couldn't care less about what's best for the sport overall.
I just want to see my team play in a playoff game, and I don't really care what format
we need.
If we go to 50 teams, if that's what it takes, I'm for it.
I hate that.
I hate that logic, but at least you're being honest about it.
Other people aren't honest about it, and it's, like, so obvious what the reasoning and what
the motivation is, and I hate it.
Bravo, Josh Pate.
Shut up, Rich Eisen.
So, before I get started here, I would like to say that I sat on this take in the playoff
take for a little while just because I didn't want it to turn into Brandon Walker snarling
and nostrils flaring, cussing, and doing the usual crap that I do.
I want to be a little bit more measured.
I want to be able to be a little bit more objective than that.
Secondly, I believe, you know, I think the veil's gone.
You know, Josh and I are buddies.
We're friends.
I like Josh.
Josh is fantastic.
We have fundamental disagreements about college football, and I think that's very good.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
So, now let me go forward talking about this clip.
Oh, one more caveat.
I am a pro playoff guy.
I do think 24 was probably too many this quick, especially since you just started 12 a couple
years ago.
So, I think they blew right past the perfect number of 16.
I would personally have 16, but I don't see 24 team playoff as the sport ender that a lot
of people see, and I don't see why everybody is racing themselves to the internet to try
to be the most outraged over this.
It's just performative nonsense.
That is what I believe.
I don't believe this is a sport killer at all.
What I'd like to do right now is talk about that clip that Josh Pate just had.
This notion that college football. Football is not a tournament sport is absurd in itself.
It is a crazy thing to say out loud.
And then to use the NCAA tournament, which let 64 out of 300 teams, and which lets now
76 teams, to use that as an indicator and say that you don't watch college basketball
games in December, that just tells us that you're a very casual college basketball fan,
and that's fine.
There's a lot of casual college basketball fans, but none of us here are casual college
football fans.
Nothing about this is going to cheapen the sport.
The notion that college football is not a tournament sport is rooted in 100 years of
college football having a bad postseason.
What is a tournament?
A tournament is an event where it is settled on the field.
A tournament, whether it's 4, 8, 16, 24, is an event where you put the teams that have
qualified in an event, they play, and they play, and they play, until one is standing
up as a winner.
That means it is the ultimate settle it on the field.
You can't politic your way to winning a 2014 playoff.
You can't committee your way to winning a 2014 playoff.
You can't computer your way to winning a 24 playoff.
You can't schedule your way to winning a 2014 playoff.
You can schedule your way in.
You can politic your way in, but once we get to a 2014 playoff, it's just you and 23 other
teams, and we settle it on the damn field.
For 100 years in college football, all the way up until 1998, we let them all play 11
games, and then we voted.
Idiots.
All the way up from 1998 to 2014, we had a BCS where we let computers tell us two teams
out of 130 that would play for a championship, often leaving out
out many many many many qualified teams the first version was stupid the second version was stupid
for the last 12 years we had a four-team playoff which is really just an extended bowl game it's
just a bowl game times two that's all it is and that's not enough my whole life as a college
football fan the 80s the 90s i watched bowl games i enjoyed bowl games but i also said man i wish
we had a playoff division two has a playoff division three has a playoff all these sports
have a playoff and the prevailing wisdom back in the 90s and 2000s was everybody wanted a playoff
why can't college football just give us a playoff and now they've given us a playoff did they blow
past the perfect number did they expand it too fast yes and yes but this is the ultimate win it
on the field if in october you believe you're the best team in college football prove it go win the
playoff if in september you're the best team in college football prove it go win the college
football playoff did you lose two games and it throw you behind
you're the best team in college football prove it go win the college football playoff
and your quarterback was hurt and you you fight your way back and you get there prove it go win a
2014 playoff nobody will ever fake their way to winning a 2014 playoff the history of college
football has some fake ass champions in there that is my take to say it's not a tournament sport
is to say you don't want it settled on the field and i think that is crazy why are you scared of
these teams having to prove it why are you scared of these teams having to walk through each other
a tournament is not just the ncaa tournament it's not this made for tv thing they're making
money it's a cash grab sure you can do all those things but at the same time this is the way to
determining a real champion is the number too big will there be some teams in there that don't have
a chance yes i'll agree with that but this is a tournament sport why because it's a fucking sport
because we want to see one team outlast all the others and be a champion that is what i feel about
this
the notion that it cheapens the regular season i fight back against that too
lsu is playing auburn this weekend they both have two losses under a 14 playoff that game is is over
it doesn't matter under the old bcs over doesn't matter i'm just using lsu auburn for example
there's dozens of these with a 2014 playoff so many teams are going to be in this mix for so long
no longer is one loss disqualifying why are y'all obsessed
with a team losing in september and then you chopping their head off and saying you don't
deserve anything why can't teams get better why can't teams get their quarterback back why can't
that happen it doesn't cheapen the regular season it enhances the regular season more games matter
in october more games matter in november i would have done 16 24 is too many but it's not a sport
ender and those who are telling you you're a sport ender are just feeding on what they think the
popular opinion is and they're jumping on it so you can like them i'll never do that
and lastly
to say college football regular season is special only because it was very punitive
and losses would matter so much more and a postseason a perfect postseason don't confuse
college football finally getting its postseason right for ruining its regular season but to say
that college football was only special because its regular season meant so much every saturday
is to completely miss what's special about college football and i'm talking about the fans the
passion the small town feel the the the feeling you get in this sport that you don't get in any
other sport that doesn't come because the postseason sucks that comes because college
football inherently is a special special thing and no amount of playoff time is going to be
playoff or no amount of regular season or no amount of change is ever going to hurt it these people
keep saying oh this is going to kill the regular season no the fuck it's not you can't kill what's
perfect you can't kill what's beautiful you can't kill what's awesome now i don't know that i've
cussed at all here i think i'm doing a good job i think the face turn is almost complete
24 is too many it should be 16 but to say it's not a tournament sport is crazy a tournament
is simply a means to find a champion and it's the fairest way that is what i have to say about
the 2014 playoff loving thoughts i'd like to see that play out in some sort of debate form if
possible
well i i we love doing shows together maybe that that will happen at some point maybe we will do
it maybe uh soon i can get out of my contract and i can go work with josh and and be happy but um
until then what what'd you say i didn't i don't i don't want i don't want you to leave oh okay i
didn't know i don't know what i'm talking about i don't like change yeah well that's why i don't
like 24.
you know the same people the same people that are telling you 24 as a sport ender also told you
the 12 team playoff was going to be a disaster they also told you boy if you want ohio state
and georgia to win every year the 12 team playoff's going to ensure that because they're just going to
get more chances in year two of the 12 team playoff indiana won the fucking national championship
like the same people that were telling you 12 is a bad idea or telling you 24 is a bad idea
and 12 was a great idea 12 has been fantastic in the indiana hoosiers are the defending national
champions that never happens in the bcs it never happens before but it happened because we opened
up opportunity and avenues that didn't exist before yeah i guess that's what hurts me about
jumping to 24 so quickly and skipping past 16 is a lot of us who were so against the change at
first had just started to grow and love 12 and really take a liking to it and really like i
love where this sport aside from like you know there's there's stuff you know like here and
there but i love where this sport is at this year it's my favorite regular season that we've had in
a long long time the saturday that we just had we're going to be talking to our our kids and
grandchildren about that in 20 30 40 50 years it was one of the most special genuine unbelievable
amazing how this that what the heck happened all over the place
and and to bolt away from it when the sport feels like it's in such a great position
it's just the one hard thing for me to swallow pause right now
i get that i just think they're trying to make up for years and years and years of the wrong
decisions you didn't live through up until the bcs you didn't live through the bcs up until 2014
the best we could do was a computer picking out two teams yeah and we used voters and we used
biases and we used all these things to determine it that was 12 years ago and we had the four team
for 12 years and then and like that was good a step in the right direction but it wasn't enough
i know it's a shock to the system to go this big and i would have gone to 16 but it's a step in
the direction that should have been taken 50 fucking years ago like look at i remember in the
90s i can remember watching sports center like on december because we used to watch every single
sports center that came on that's how good the show was i remember watching in december and
i'd be getting ready for uh or whatever and then the sports center shows and watch these highlights
from division three mountain union and this team mountain union against whitewater and um a three
overtime classic and they move on to the semi-final i remember thinking oh my god a playoff that's
electric that's awesome and it worked for every
level of college football that works in pro football it works in high school football
just because the powers that be in in division one college football were so backwards for so long
don't hold it against the format of a playoff that's electric and as soon as i would watch
those electric playoff highlights and say man i should i'd love to see that here comes a 90 second
ad for the blue bonnet bowl between two seven and five teams uh coming up so like it's just
we're finally catching up to where it should have been before 16 is what i would have done 24 is too
soon but this notion that the playoff is an evil monster that's going to erode the soul of the
regular season is a lie it's either a lie or a very miseducated guess okay boy i'm feeling it
tonight i'm feeling and i don't know i saw somebody i mentioned how many people are watching
i don't care how many people are watching i want people to watch later i want people to listen on
the podcast and everything and we are jacking around with the schedule and everything what i
was being fucking best and uh that's what you got right here boys the whole point is to enjoy the
ride don't forget that says uh suck my trump thank you suck my trump for being here anytime
you get suck my trump boy oh boy boy oh boy um let me read an ad then i want to discuss a couple
things do you have any more anything more to add to that no i'm good okay very good
um i'll do that
one later let me tell you something about college football nobody in this sport knows how to do
anything halfway you're not going to go to the game you're going to make a day of it you've got
to tailgate the food the gear the traditions and somehow you're three hundred dollars deep before
kickoff and then your buddy finally pays you back for the
stuff you brought for everybody.
Good.
Take that money in your Venmo balance and spend it with a Venmo debit
MasterCard because in college football, there's always something else to buy.
More food, more gear, more cowbells.
Whatever your school considers a Saturday necessity.
And with a Venmo debit card, you can spend your Venmo balance right away
with no monthly fee or minimum balance.
That's important because apparently nobody in college football has ever heard
of too much cowbell.

All right, Blubman.
Let's dive into the ball watcher's guide.
I do have a couple more things I'd like to talk about.
I'm not going to send a text to somebody.
Hold on.
I'm going to beg Big Cat for a retweet.
We just fuck with the schedule so much.
Oh, do you want to talk about Loxley or you don't even care?
I don't care because we knew that was coming.
Yeah, that dude was fired a month ago.
I do think there are some coaches fighting back against this firing monster.
Like, Beamer's fighting back.
Norvell's fighting back a little bit.
Norvell was gone if they lost to Miami by, like, a good bit,
and then they should have won the game.
Yeah.
Norvell's been fighting.
He's been fighting it for a while, but he is fighting it,
and Beamer's fighting it.
Loxley didn't fight it.
Loxley, they got beat 54-3 by UCLA, and they just didn't fight it.
Losing to Rutgers, like.
No, he quit.
He quit.
The team quit on him.
Blubman, I don't know if I'd fight it either.
I understand.
You have one of the best jobs in the world.
The best job in the world is fired college football coach.
If you were on a track to be 4-8 and 5-7 saves your job,
but 4-8 gets you $35 million,
boy, I think I might just embrace 4-8 and go fishing.
That's what I might do.
But then again, I'm a quitting bitch.
This guy, too.
This guy, he hasn't won anywhere.
It's been crazy because he had that promise early of at least he could recruit
at Maryland, and he had a couple of five stars,
and they just got to Maryland and decided,
oh, we're Maryland football players now.
We don't have any business being any good.
So, yeah.
Did you see that quote from the recruit that decommitted?
No.
What did he say?
I'm going to go talk to my agents.
I'm a four-star, so we'll have plenty of options available.
Man, oh, man.
Man, oh, man.
I have become too fat for my original Brandon Walker
college football show shirt.
I'd kill for a new one, Alex Cooper 15.
Okay.
All right.
Here we go.
How many players are still alive for the Heisman, Blutman?
Let's operate on.
The premise that Jeremiah Smith is going to struggle to maintain his lead
because the quarterback play is going to come down.
He may or may not.
Now, maybe he continues his stellar play and wins the Heisman simply because he
carries his quarterback to the playoff and everything else.
But let's say Jeremiah Smith, his level of play comes down a little bit
because the level of quarterback play comes down.
I have seven other players, eight other players,
who are still in the mix for this Heisman trophy
and who could make a move on him.
I'm going to say those players right now, and you tell me if you think I'm right.
Number.
Number one, Trinidad Chambliss.
I believe Trinidad Chambliss is in position to make a move.
I believe he's plus 650 right now.
He has a big game against Texas on the road this weekend.
He has a big game against Georgia coming up.
He has big games left.
I believe the combination of Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney could both make a move.
Mensah, I believe, is the second favorite at plus 290.
And then Toney is plus 2200, which makes him very attractive.
They've got that big game against Notre Dame.
They've got the ACC title game coming up that will be in primetime.
They will have a couple of opportunities to put up big numbers in spots.
So I would say both those still alive could make a move.
C.J. Carr is not dead.
C.J. Carr has Miami coming up, and they have SMU coming up, I believe.
Doesn't have a conference championship game,
but it wasn't exactly his fault that they lost to BYU,
and he led not only a big comeback to take the lead,
but also led them right down to the doorstep.
He didn't embarrass himself or hurt himself in the Heisman race.
But Jesse Legree, freshman receiver from Oregon State,
is simply going to be that guy whose highlights and numbers
propel him up the Heisman board all year long.
It'll be very tough for him to win it,
but he's going to be in the mix and could make a move.
Drew Mestermaker at plus 5500 can make a move.
He has a game against Texas Tech later.
He would have a conference championship game
if he can backdoor the playoff at 10-2,
and Drew Mestermaker has to be the one
that scores.
Drew Mestermaker can make a move for the Heisman.
Gunnar Stockton could still make a move for the Heisman.
He just lost a game to Auburn,
so coming off a loss, you'd try to say no.
But he's been excellent in his career.
He has a game against a bad Ole Miss defense coming up.
He has games against some other bad defenses coming up.
Florida's bad defense.
He has spots to put up numbers.
Last year, he went 1-1 against Ole Miss.
I think he threw for over 300 yards twice
and scored over 30 points twice.
He could get back in the mix.
And the last one,
Jaden Maiava.
Jaden Maiava from USC.
Has a game against Ohio State.
Has a game against UCLA.
He's got 19 touchdowns, 3 interceptions.
He's thrown for 2,000 yards already.
His numbers are good enough,
and if USC, who's kind of been giving up for dead
after losing to Oregon,
gets back in this thing,
Jaden Maiava is somebody who can make a move
in this Heisman race.
Thoughts, Liam Blutman?
Uh. I was going to say,
I was going to say,
I was going to say,
I was going to make sure you mentioned him.
I disagreed with CJ Carr.
The fumble on the spike was an embarrassing moment.
I think it's fair if Camario was playing for him
to be in the mix if they went out and he showed,
hey, look what we were without me.
Camario's going to have a great case.
I think a fair, like, deep,
two deep long shots would be Fafida and Gio Lopez
if they keep lighting on fire and they keep winning.
I mean, like,
I don't know if those guys are necessarily winners,
but they're guys that could be finalists.
And then Jesse Legree's dad,
he's got to delete the Twitter app.
Yeah, everybody's dad has to delete Twitter.
Yeah, I don't know if you saw this.
Nobody's dad or uncle should have Twitter.
Yeah, so Mark, you delete your Twitter.
His dad tweeted Decision Day is like this Friday.
Yeah, that's bad.
That's bad.
There's a lot of depth to that conversation.
Yeah, the players getting the NIL contracts
they get these days is great.
The involvement we have from dads and uncles
who would be better off letting other people handle it.
Not to say that's the case in this case,
but it's the case a lot of the places in the country.
Anyway, if Camario Taylor's healthy
and plays against Oklahoma and we win,
he gets right back in it.
I don't believe that to be the case.
So hopefully, hopefully we will get it
and we will get there.
How many times teams are alive for the playoff?
I'm going to go through the conferences real quick.
Listen to this ACC.
I believe three teams are really alive.
Five teams you can make a case for Miami awake
and SMU are all in the mix.
UNC and Clemson are on the periphery.
They would have to have miracles,
but they are not dead as far as the playoff concern.
And these are all teams, of course,
that play in a conference.
With championship games,
they would have to get hot and win that title game.
In the Big 12, I got five to seven teams
still alive for the playoff.
The five teams that are very alive,
BYU, Texas Tech, Utah, Houston, and Arizona,
and the two teams on the periphery,
Baylor and Oklahoma State.
In the Big 10, I've got seven teams that are super alive.
Nine teams that are kind of alive.
Ohio State, UCLA, Indiana, USC, Iowa,
Northwestern, Oregon are still alive.
They're alive for the playoff with Minnesota and Wisconsin
kind of technically alive if they were to get hot
and win the Big 10.
And then the SEC, I've got eight to 11 teams right now.
Eight to 11 out of 16.
The eight teams that are super alive,
Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama,
Florida, Texas, and LSU.
The teams that are kind of technically alive,
Mississippi State, Missouri, and Auburn.
That's a lot of teams midway through October
that still have a conversation.
Now, that's without getting into the G6,
which is probably,
five to 10,
that's without getting into Notre Dame,
who's certainly probably going to the playoff.
That's where we are as far as who's still alive
and who's still kicking down the stretch.
Good meme X says,
USC is deader than dead.
No, they're not.
They're just not.
And you guys can say all you want.
You can say this team's dead.
They're six and one.
They have an injured Ohio State
coming to California in a couple of weeks.
They win that game, they're seven and one.
They got UCLA left.
You tell me,
USC doesn't think they can beat UCLA
at the end for a playoff spot?
Like, USC is alive.
Oregon is alive.
Like, these teams are very much alive.
Thoughts, Blutman?
Been trying to tell everyone
not to quit on Oregon yet.
The off-field stuff might be an issue.
They're going to need Dante Moore back at some point,
but their defense has been playing very, very well.
Let's see.
Harry said,
Thank you very much for being here.
Says how is Oregon still alive but not
Michigan? It's a great question. The reason I believe Oregon to be alive and not Michigan
is Oregon potentially has a quarterback coming back. Michigan doesn't. Michigan doesn't have
a quarterback. They got a freshman who maybe could be good. They have Bryce Underwood who
isn't good. They have been winning games despite themselves, and they have a third loss just
sitting on their resume that isn't really on their resume. So I just don't believe that Michigan's
an actual alive playoff team, whereas Oregon still has the bullet in the chamber of Dante
Moore coming back. Maybe he doesn't come back, and maybe that bullet never gets fired, but that
does exist. And Oregon gets an injured Ohio State team too. I guess Michigan does too, but
I'll just say it. Oregon's a better team than Michigan. That's why I think Oregon's alive.

on Fox One. Rivalries, upsets, chaos.
Whatever happens, you're watching it live. Football at noon, streaming live on Fox One.
Watch three days for free. Big Noon Saturday live on Fox One. Watch three days free. Of course,
the big one this week, Indiana at Michigan. We'll get to that one in just a second.
Offers are subject to change. See Fox One for complete terms and
conditions. We got Indiana
Michigan in that spot this weekend, and let's just go ahead
and slide right now into our ball watchers guide. Lukey, if you could walk
me through, if you could give me that
first window of games. Give me the graphic
and we'll go forward from there. There you go. The big one. It's Fox Big Noon
kickoff. Indiana at Michigan. We got Pitt and Miami, and we got LSU
at Auburn. I don't know if those are the three I wrote down there. I always like to
write down what I like. I wrote down
Indiana, Michigan, LSU, Auburn, and an upset alert that I'll get to
in a minute. But Indiana, Michigan, I think this game is where
your players to watch are.
And I think it's players multiple. I think obviously
Tommy Carr, who is getting the starting nod at quarterback for Michigan,
is a player to watch. He's a freshman. He's getting the big opportunity.
He's playing in defending national champs, coming off a loss. But it's the defending national champs
that don't, I don't know that they're going to score a lot on Michigan's defense. I think Michigan's
defense is good enough to follow the same template, keep their opponent to
between 14 and 20 points, and see if their offense can go over 20 points. If Tommy Carr
can do that, they can win this game.
The other player to watch is on the other side is Josh Hoover. He wasn't good enough.
He wasn't good enough against Ohio State. He was 20 for 40.
Fernando Mendoza won a national championship because he didn't make mistakes, and he
was very efficient, and he completed a lot of passes. And that's how you keep drives alive.
Especially if you can't run the football. If you're throwing 20 incomplete passes,
a lot of drives are ending. And that's what he did the other day.
I know he didn't throw any interceptions, but 20 incomplete passes is basically two interceptions.
You just can't keep the ball.
If you're throwing 20 incomplete passes. So Hoover's got to be better. They're not
a national title contender with Josh Hoover playing the way he's playing right now. I think he could
be better, but they're not a title contender if he goes 20 for 40 against
good defenses. They're just not. They can't run the ball good enough, and their defense doesn't make
you quit nearly enough. So that's my thoughts about this game.
The two players to watch are in this game. Bluntman, your thoughts? Yeah, I said
mostly that I really think you have to view this Michigan just in the lens of an
Iowa team, a vintage Iowa team.
You're they've played the same game in like 90%
of their outings this year. You know what you're going to get. I don't think Tommy
Carr drastically changes the
the mentality of the offense.
I think it brings them better mojo and everything. But
you know, when you're looking at this game, Indiana's got one of the premier rush defenses in the
country. Their ability to clog
up lanes, gaps,
like Michigan is going to struggle with that. I
think Hoover's going to struggle though, too, on the road against that defense. Like
I love the under here brands of 41. I think this is a
1610 1613 classic
2026 Michigan game, and I don't know who's winning. I view this as kind of
like the Michigan Oklahoma game, and that was a 1414 game with seven minutes in the fourth
quarter, and Mateer just threw an interception at his own 20 yard line.
That's that's why Oklahoma lost.
It was an old school slugfest. They were both. They were right there. They were tied, and
I feel like this. This game could be tied in the fourth quarter. Does Hoover make that mistake? Probably
not, and I think Indiana will probably end up winning because they got championship material to
him. They got a championship coach, so they'll probably be the team that makes the play in the end and
wins 20 to 17. But this idea that Indiana walks in there and
bullies them. I don't think that Indiana exists anymore. It doesn't exist
right now. It is just at last year, but not right now.
Also in that window,
you've got LSU at Auburn, and I think LSU might be the biggest sleeping
giant in the sport right now. I think we might have
an opportunity over the next six weeks, and this is just a thought I had.
It might be time to watch Lane work. It might be time to sit back and realize
that, you know, they lost Ole Miss by eight points by one score in the fourth
quarter of that game. They lost on a two point conversion a couple of weeks ago to
Kentucky and Kentucky, and now if they as long as they take care of
business at Auburn, they're going to get LSU.
And Texas both at home, they're going to get a Tennessee team without a
quarterback really in Knoxville, and that would be keeping them from the
playoff. If they if they take care of business on the plains at Auburn,
they come home for a couple of big games knowing if they beat Alabama and
Texas at home, playoff is very much back in. And I really believe they've
been a team that hasn't been very healthy. Trade is green with weeks like
they've been a team that hasn't been very healthy and Sam Levitt's getting
better every week.
So I think LSU might be a team that we've kind of given up on that didn't meet
preseason expectations. And you look in November and they've got a lot to say
over who wins the SEC and who wins the national championship. Thoughts on that
Blutman?
I think the Kentucky loss like I don't know for sure where we're sitting here
and our setups weren't on the field in Death Valley or anything. We're not in
Baton Rouge seeing what Lane is going through and cooking up. I.
I believe the Kentucky loss woke something up in him Brandon. We're we're we're
tarnishing him in his name because he's not playing Lane football, not being
aggressive, not putting his foot on the gas and and boot on the other team's
chin saying, hey, this is my game. We're in this on my fourth down my terms
fear that might have woke something up and then we're going to get that Lane
Kiffin that we know and love. And yeah, I I'm not counting LSU out the rest of
the season here. I still think they make a playoff for sure.
Lastly, in this window, what's going to show me the graphic again?
Because you had a game that I didn't have. I have my third game was you have
Pitt Miami. Yeah, Miami is going to kill him like Pitt's not good. Pitt Pitt was
always fake even when they had their quarterback like they they got out game
by 200 yards against Virginia Tech somehow won that football game pitch just
a pitch, not a good football team. So I wouldn't put that one there. I would
have put this one. I think I got two upset alerts. They're both from big 12
teams coming off emotional wins, although Texas.
Tech's wasn't emotional. It was just impressive as the first time we really saw them
impress all year, but they're going on the road. Texas Tech at Cincinnati. I think there's
six and a half point favorites. Doesn't that line stink to everybody else? Shouldn't Texas
Tech be more of a favorite against Cincinnati than six and a half? Ten and a half. Wait,
is it ten and a half? Yeah, maybe it opened at six and a half, but it's definitely just
a second ago. Six and a half. I'm tired. I'll be sleeping too much. You sure? Yeah, I get
them. It opened at 11 and a half. This is why we should pre-release. This is why we should
pre-record. I wouldn't do shit. Stupid shit. I thought we did pre-record. Yeah, this is
pre-recorded. Thank God this is pre-recorded. Yeah, Lukey. Lukey, edit this out in post.
Did Lukey say he was going to edit it out in post? No, he didn't respond. I fear he's
gone. It's ten and a half. It's ten and a half. It sure is ten and a half. It's ten
and a half the whole time. Which one did I get confused? I might have got confused with
the other game. You might got what I got. You know what? No, no, no. I confused it with
that one. Oh, that makes sense because that was a seven now down six and a half. Yeah,
that's the one with six and a half. This one started at 11 and a half. Now it's ten and
a half. Anyway, me not getting the numbers right, notwithstanding. Doesn't mean nothing.
Cincinnati can score and Texas Tech is a team that, again, they look the best they've looked
all year the other day, but still the quarterback play has been so lacking. They're probably
going to go into Cincinnati and win. It's just a spot that would make me nervous as
a Texas Tech fan.
Cincinnati, not the worst team in the world at home. Got one more punch in them. That's
just what I would. That's what I would. They're my upset alert. And then spoiler alert in
the next window. BYU UCF is my other upset alert. And that one's a worse one because
BYU coming off the highest high you can possibly have. The highest high in the world. BYU is
coming up. What are you doing with that flashlight, Tommy? Where did you get that flashlight?
Show me that. What do you flash my face? Golly. Okay. Where'd you get that?
What do you mean mom bought it? Why do you need a flashlight that power? All right, go

I have to imagine that BYU fans, after they were feeling the highest of highs
to experience some good fun after the win, they were using Ryobi flashlights and just
going around Provo. Hey, you see a score? And that's how they were doing their fun hijinks.
All right. The middle window, we've got the 230 games, Tennessee and South Carolina. This is
what I wrote down. BYU and UCF and Iowa and Minnesota. What have you got there? What have
you got?
What have you got there, Lukey?
Lukey Blubman. So BYU, UCF, the big one, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Iowa, Minnesota. And I wrote
down this window. These are the spread alerts. To me, these are the, oh my goodness, that spread
is what? And that's why I wrote down BYU, UCF, six and a half. That's why I wrote down Tennessee,
South Carolina, minus three or minus two and a half. And then Iowa, Minnesota, I believe that
one's at six or seven, something like that. That one's going towards Iowa. But as far as
the spread alerts, I wrote down, oh my goodness, that spread is what? And that's why I wrote down
this, the Tennessee, South Carolina, BYU, UCF, BYU coming off such a big win, such an incredible
win, such an incredible moment. Now they got to go across the country to UCF team, who is not bad.
They are not a bad team at all. This spot stinks for BYU. This smells to high heaven. This is an
awful, awful spot for BYU.
A hundred percent. It's an awful spot. They got to go cross country to a fine UCF team where Alex
Grinch, Fran Walker, you and I wrote that guy off for dead. Yeah. Oh yes. And he's not, he hasn't
been that bad. I thought, I thought when Scott Frost got back there and he hired Alex Grinch
to be his defense coordinator, I was like, well, you're just giving up. You don't give a fuck.
You don't care about anything. And, and they've, they've been okay. They have been okay. Uh, and
then, uh, the, the, the stickiest line of the whole week, by the way, is Tennessee, South
Carolina. Yeah. And, and I think it goes to, to the sports books and the, and the, and the, uh,
the line setters opinions that the road in the sec is so dangerous. And it's so tough for everybody
because Tennessee has been lights out at home lights out. They killed Alabama at home, but they
go on the road to Arkansas. They were bad. And now they're going on the road to South Carolina,
a South Carolina team who beat Florida by two touchdowns. And then had a bi-week like South
Carolina is suddenly putting things together. If I'm just betting on line alone, I don't see a world
where you can't just, you don't just bet South Carolina because there's no reason they should be
favored over a top 15 team, a top 10 team. I don't see a world where you can't just, you don't just bet
them a top 10 team and they are. So I think that's a scary, scary, scary spot. That's a scary
spot. And it's the second one of those for South Carolina. I remember the Kentucky game. It was
same kind of deal. And they were up 17, nothing. They just blew it. They blew it. Absolutely blew
it. I wonder, I wonder, nah, they, if they lose this one, it can't be time for Beamer. They'd
still have to give them a little more. Uh, Mississippi hippie says, I don't understand
your Indiana thing. Indiana is the best team in the country. They struggle with Penn state.
Iowa and Oregon last year. They're simply not, they're simply not the best team in the country.
They're just, they're just not. And last year, certainly they, they struggle with all those
teams. Um, but they, they just have never looked the part this year. Last year, they had a couple
of games where they blew teams out or they just dominated teams. And they haven't really done
that against an actual opponent this year, who they actually played Nebraska. They barely beat
Northwestern. They barely beat Ohio state. They lost two. They're not a bad football team. They're
a top 10 football team. There is no argument that Indiana is the best team in the country.
That, that argument doesn't exist this year. It just does not. Um, can they hang around long
enough to become the best team in the country by the end of the playoff? Maybe, but they are not
the best team in the country. Period. End of sentence. Who's the best team in the country,
Liam? I mean, I thought, I thought it was Georgia. I thought it was, it may, I know it. Nobody's the
answer. Nobody. So that's what it looks like right now. But by the end, somebody will get
their act together. I would still, if you made me, if you held a gun to my head, said name,
best team in the country, I would still say Georgia. And I think I would probably say Ohio
state after that. Um, but I'd say Miami after that. Yeah. Miami too. Yeah. You're right. I just
like, even with saying that the helm Ohio state, and I guess this goes into the conversation we
are having with mock ties on most of the other, but I'll say it hasn't looked like the same world
game records. I've like, they still got all the dudes, but it hasn't been flowing. And like,
I don't know,
man. And yet they could still win the national championship when Ohio state doesn't feel like
Ohio state. It's weird. Yeah. One of them years, man, the top of the sport has come down to the
rest of, uh, you know, no longer is it like a bunch of neighborhoods with five or six mansions
sticking out? It's, it's just all the houses are pretty much the same height and we're on the same
cul-de-sac. Yeah. We're all in the same neighborhood now. And it used to be, uh, you know,
Alabama and Georgia and Ohio state, and all these teams were behind gated communities and you
couldn't get in there. Well, everybody can get in there now. It's there's no longer that
exclusive. Indiana's in there. Indiana built a mansion in like, uh, in like a year. Yeah.
Isn't it weird though? The Kentucky's at the barbecue. They're, they're going to the Indiana
barbecue. That makes sense. A college football. I, I don't like saying this because it just seems
like I'm poo-pooing a team. That's I don't think Kentucky's on the Indiana track at all. I think
Kentucky is a team that's won a couple of really close games and good for them. They want them,
but I don't think coming down the stretch of the season, Kentucky is a top 10 team.
In the country. Um, it's just my gut feeling. They beat South Carolina, 35, 34, the beat LSU,
35, 34, great wins. The coach is fantastic. Maybe next year they will be a top 10 team in the
country. I don't think they're going to win at Tennessee. I don't think they're going to win at
Missouri. I hope they play Missouri. I've got so many schedules in my head. Um, I just, I just,
I don't know. I think they're good. I think they're really good. I don't think you can
compare them to my aunt to, to Indiana. Excuse me. I was just saying, I thought everyone was
at the cul-de-sac man. Yeah. Everybody's there.
Okay. Um, and then the last window we have the game of the week, I believe Ole Miss and Texas,
Houston, Utah might actually be the game of the week. And then, uh, USC at Wisconsin,
again, pretty, pretty pedestrian week after we've gotten used to we're coming off the best week,
maybe of all time. And now we have a week where you don't really have the, this many big matchups
and these, these big things. Um, and then coming down the stretch, like November 7th is loaded.
October 31st is loaded this week. Doesn't look on paper. Like it's,
it has loaded, but we have seen in college football. That doesn't really matter what it
looks like going in. It can turn into that. So, uh, but Ole Miss, Texas is the game of the week.
I just feel, I think everybody in the world, I believe 80% of the bets are on Ole Miss
feels like a, a Texas team who now has, has, uh, tasted their own blood
is hearing all week, how shitty they are. Arch is hearing how shitty he is. Sarks hearing how
shitty he is. They're still in this thing. I think Ole Miss gets a taste of how desperate Texas is.
On Saturday night, I think Texas punches back. I think Texas fights back. I think Texas gets a big
win. Nobody's ever as bad as, as their last performance. Nobody's ever as good as their
last performance. And I think Texas will be motivated to stop fucking around, get the fuck
up off the mat. What do you think? The, the one thing that scares me is how much money is on
Ole Miss in this game. But if I'm looking at this football mind, well, yeah, I'm Ryan with
Ole Miss here. I'm Ryan with them as an underdog. If Golding really figured out the
offensively, that's a massive, massive help. Uh, another thing, no Colin Simmons, that is a
significant loss for the Texas defense. I haven't seen anything over a two year stretch to give
myself any sort of confidence in Steve Sarkisian, what he's got building on the offense and what
he's developing with Arch Manning. I don't know the backup. If the kid could throw, I've never
seen him throw a football before. That'll be a first for me and millions of others watching this
game. If he gets in there, I'm just, I just have to go with the better quarterback. I have to go
with the team. I trust more Brown Walker. I have to go with Ole Miss.
That's fair. This is an Ole Miss team that, um, the last big game they were on the road,
they went to Florida and got their doors blown off by an average Florida team. Absolutely.
It's just the, the difference you can look at home and on the road in the SEC, and they might be one
of the most extreme.
I mean, I've seen some examples of it. They're Ole Miss is unbeatable at home, uh, on the road,
though. They're very, they're quite gettable. I guess they went on the road to Vanderbilt,
but that wasn't, does that count?
Van, Van, Van don't count, man. I, I just, it's just legitimately, man. I, I pick a lot of teams
against Texas and it has nothing like it's all on Sark and Arch. There's nothing about them that
is intriguing, enticing to me. I want no part of backing them. They could, they could pull them up
and shut me up and make me run. I don't want to be a part of that. That's all fine and dandy, but there's no reason that I could put my hard-earned money on them.
You know what I'm saying?
Houston at Utah, Utah is a team that's in the top 10 because they're six and O without regard to the
fact that they haven't beaten a single team, but this is their opportunity to beat a team.
uh they are favored i would expect them to win this game at home houston is uh is well coached
good team connor wickman is having a great year he's a very good player um he is somebody that is
you know kind of the example if you just stick at it stick at it stick at it these these quarterbacks
that we think are a finished product early well you look up three or four years down the road and
all of a sudden they're pretty good uh you get some legitimate coaching a legitimate coaching
staff and voila he's he's not bad um to me this is about utah finally dipping their toe in the uh
competitive pool they they they're it's not their fault but their early schedule has been very easy
there they got iowa state they got arkansas they got you know arkansas is an attempt at scheduling
a sec team and when you schedule it you didn't know they were going to be god awful so i don't
blame them for their schedule i just think them being number 10 based on winning nothing so far
is a little charitable but we'll see they'll they'll they'll
start with houston this week i imagine they'll win they'll be seven no they'll be like number
eight or seven in the country and and we'll go from there uh you you but you like this utah team
from the start right you're muted you're muted you're muted i don't know how i got muted um
i liked utah a lot last year ebo and i did i really don't fancy them this year
i love this spot for them this is one of the traps
spots that that you guys talk about on the college football show this is they are begging you to take
houston plus six and a half after call after colorado gave utah a scare after utah's played
nobody all year this sack like city after dark this is a fit one of the toughest places out west
to play this is a dangerous spot i think houston's a better team but there's no way i'm picking
against utah in this spot and i just want to say brown walker on a terrible slate like this
let's be honest this is a terrible slate to be blessed by by the schedule gods to give us not
one but two after dark bangers is great we also got the north dakota state new mexico game in
this slot but somehow in the cw two great great games to cap off a bad week this episode is

The crown is yours.
We both have a pick.
I've got a pick right now.
My pick, we bet numbers, not teams.
We bet spots, not teams.
We bet numbers and spots, not teams.
Goodness gracious almighty.
Yeah.
Okay.
We bet numbers, not teams, spots, not teams.
My pick, UCF plus six and a half at home with BYU coming off the win over Notre Dame.
BYU coming off such a huge win, such a huge spot.
National TV, they're number two in the country.
Now they're going down to a little low UCF and the bounce house,
and it's going to be rocking UCF plus six and a half.
The line tells me I need to bet UCF.
What's your pick?
We bet spots, not numbers.
Unless the spot is good and the number feels good
and you bet the team because the other team stinks.
Oklahoma State minus 13 and a half at Colorado,
or at home against Colorado, inside the key to touchdown number.
Oklahoma State, they got to put a 50 plus in this one.
It's bleak at Colorado.
Keep it simple, man.

I'm just looking at a guy who's spending his night just being in the chat,
just saying awful things to people.
Like, I don't know what goes on in your life that makes you do this, man,
but we're just going to get you out of here.
Anyway, that's that.
That's it for tonight.
We appreciate you.
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for listening.
The podcast listeners numbers, again, still up about 80% year over year.
Things are great.
Things are fantastic.
We enjoy you.
We'll be back Saturday night for our chaos, our chaotic Saturday night recap show.
Blumman, any thoughts?
Man, this was a great show.
I think it was really well done, and I can't wait to eat your chili tonight.
Well, it's not tonight.
I'll have it tomorrow, and I might be eating the chili.
I can't eat it anyway.
If the chili makes it through tonight, I will bring it to you.
I can't eat it, though.
I was just making a joke.
My sister, every time it starts to get cold, she texts me and says,
hey, have you made your chili yet?
What's in it?
Chili.
I mean, I've got chili.
I've got tomatoes.
I've got certain varieties of tomatoes.
I've got a little onion in there.
I've got some beans.
I like the red kidney beans.
Sometimes I use black beans.
But it's all about the seasonings and a little dollop here, a little splash there, stuff,
how you dress it up and everything.
Do you make gumbo?
I don't make gumbo.
Gumbo is pretty labor-intensive.
With chili, it's just all about compiling the ingredients and then letting it simmer and cook.
With gumbo, you've got to be sitting there the whole time working on it.
So I'm not a gumbo maker.
Gumbo's not in my rotation.
I make a good pasta, a chicken pasta.
Of course, I man the grill a lot and chili.
As far as the kitchen cooking, chili and my pasta are probably the two things that I'll make consistently.
But I will cook everything.
Just me and my wife split time.
Do I work 90 hours a week and am I at work 4 o'clock in the morning and then do I come home and cook dinner for my beautiful wife?
Yes.
And I'm not trying to say that for credit.
I'm just trying to say that so you guys know how incredible a human being I am.
That was really nice.
All right.
Let's go.
That's the Brandon Walker College Football Show.
