We saw a press release yesterday, or a track report come out yesterday or maybe the day before from the Australian Turf Club talking about that track for Yulong Golden Rose Day and the video as well up online. So for those that are wanting to hear more about that track, they can do so. The historical rail placement, the information that came through from the ATC, on a true rail, Rose Hill Gardens has historically been close to a neutral pattern. Leaders hold only a mild edge and backmarkers win slightly more often than mid-pack runners. So closes are competitive when the pace is genuine. The preferred racing line is expected to be inside to mid-track with lanes four to seven strongest. That's through from the ATC. Ron Doversey, good morning to you. It's going to be a beautiful day. 29, not a cloud in the sky tomorrow. No excuse not to get to the track or your local.
Speaker 2Yeah, no doubt about it. I can't wait to see what happens with these star colts in the Golden Rose and what eventuates there. Tricky day as far as the punt's concerned. Picking your mark, I would suggest, with so many short-priced favourites. It can be dangerous. So, yeah, we'll just play it by ear there to see what prices they actually end up.

Four group one winners come out of that Golden Rose behind him. That was a. Very strong one in 2016, but concur with Ron's thoughts. There's a lot of shorties here that look like winners tomorrow, but that can be dangerous. It doesn't always play that way.
Speaker 1And Adrian Cigletano, the late call-up. Richie's doing the trials. I don't know what's happening. Duff, I thought Gatters would be on the trials this morning, but Callender's in here. He's got the blue shirt, the pink tie on, and he's up doing the trials as we speak. So we might get through some races today, Adrian.
Speaker 4Yeah, off the bench today, nice and early. He stormed into the studio at about 8.30 this morning, and off the bench. Off the back fence after Hawks. What about the presents? The presents. He had the pink tie on as well, Richie. So he's hosting the trials, but I concur with the boys here. So eight favourites under $2.50 tomorrow. I think you've got to pick your mark. I think some of them will win. It's just which ones we want it back tomorrow.
Speaker 1Let's get straight into it, and let's look at race eight on the card, the Golden Rose. So for those that are playing, race eight, group one, 1,400 metres, and, well, having a look at the market with the tab, it has been all about getting. Guesthouse. They've been very, very keen to back this particular Colton. They think that he can go on to do even bigger and better things, Ron Doversy. Where do you see Guesthouse landing? Where do you see him at the finish line? And do you think he's, you know, a genuine top three chance in Everest? I know I've thrown about three, four questions at you there, but that's what the punters are asking on the text line.
Speaker 2Well, that's the question he's going to answer tomorrow, whether he's a top three chance in a tab Everest if he's going to win, if he can back up the time he ran first up on that very fast track. Where he's going to land, I think all depends on how under-focused jumps. Those horses drawn. Those four horses drawn inside him do have a little bit of speed. So I don't know, but Zach knows him well. I don't think he'll be digging him because a lot of work's gone into probably trying to settle him. So, yeah, it'll be an interesting watch as far as. I think Zach will be hoping under-focus does his thing and misses at half a length and then he just edges across. And he should get a good run. But I'm tipping him, but I'm not confident. I'm not confident. There's these little questions that we've been asking all week, 11 to 14, all that sort of stuff. But the price, yeah, they get them pretty fit. They know their horses well. They seem very, very bullish on the horse himself, and understandably so. But, yeah, I think he's the one to beat. I think that War Woven is set up perfectly. Quiet run first up, ridden quietly, then hunted up the other day and held him at bay, and 1,400 doesn't look a problem. I think the way. The one that's over the odds in the race is under-focus. His two runs have been outstanding. And I think if he does jump and lean into 1-1, he's got a little knockout chance here. And St Goddard, what am I going to say about him? I would have been top pick from a draw. It's just a. I want to see how the track's playing for him. But he has got. He does have work to do as far as finding a spot here. I believe the black booker coming out of the race is definitely going to be Tron Bolt. But to cut it all short, I'm tipping Guesthouse here, guys.
Speaker 3Joel? Yeah, don't you love the breeding propaganda machine, Guesthouse? I mean. This bloke, three weeks ago, they said he couldn't, you know, get out of his box after the run to the Rose, and Mick Price declaring the next far lap the best cold he's ever had. Well, he did have a good one, caught Extreme Choice, who's turned into an outstanding stallion. Gents, I just want to pose you this question. Zach Lloyd, that ride was probably the best ride I've seen in 10 years. If he doesn't get across. If he was a half-neck away from being caught four-wide, if he gets caught four-wide, he probably finishes midfield. What price is he in this race?
Speaker 1Wow. 320? 340? Yeah. So he's still favourite? Yeah. Would St. Gothard be favourite?
Speaker 3Well, I just think he's.
Speaker 4No, I think he's favourite because he comes out of the fast lead-up. Like, this race, it's the first time since 2009, this race, the San Domenico outrated the run to the Rose. So I think that's the way everyone's looking at the race, is that that's the fast lead-up, and that's the way I'm going without seeing the thunder yet. But, yeah, Joel. I think he's still favourite because he comes out of the fast lead-up.
Speaker 1How hard was that track that day, Joel, when he did win and broke the clock? Like, was it extremely hard on the foot?
Speaker 3I think so. I spoke to a couple of trainers where a couple of horses pulled up scratchy. He didn't. He got across. He never went round a horse. I'm not potting him by any means, but everything went right. Now they want you to take five to four against, you know, one of the best trainers you've ever seen. Jeez, these Chris Waller horses have been completely. Completely dismissed here. Tron Bolt, a Group 1 winner, I know he's going to get back. $14, I think, is madness. St Goddard, the money for it yesterday tells me, or Wednesday, tells me that they're going forward. I expect him to be possibly outside lead. Depends what happens with Warwoven. If Warwoven kicks up and holds out plagiarism, then possibly Jamak might try and find the 1-1. But there is no way he goes back with the money that we're seeing here. There's no way St Goddard goes back. Saying all that, I'm with Under Focus. I'm hoping he steps a bit cleaner than he did last start. His first two runs back have been excellent. I think double figures is very good about him, and I expect him to run very well. Hardest to beat. I've got Tron Bolt here. This has got a smell about it. I don't know why. D-Lane's obviously come up to give him a little dress rehearsal for a Caulfield Guineas. I can't believe the price. I mean, this guy went up favourite, I think, in this race, you know, two months ago, and you're going to get $14 on a day you couldn't really make ground last start. I get it with Guesthouse. I'm not saying he can't win, but he's definitely went well first up. And the propaganda machine, like, I've never seen a horse improve out of a farm by him in the last five days like this horse has. But I'm with Under Focus at the price. Even a horse like Basilius I thought was nearly just as good as Tron Bolt. There's a lot of ways you can look at this race, but I'm Under Focus to beat Tron Bolt.
Speaker 4Yeah, nothing tricky for me. I'm with the favourite Guesthouse. They're all the same coming out of that run to the, Rose for mine, I think, said Goddard had his chance, Warwoven had the right run, Under Focus. He was a bit slow away. So it's going to be interesting to see if he jumps tomorrow because I think that will force either Zach's hand to either push forward or he has to come back. But if he's half a step slow and Zach can get in front of him and get in that, say, 6-2 wide line or one-at-one back position, it's going to be awfully hard to beat. If he executes the first few furlongs, I think Guesthouse is the one to beat. I agree with Duff. I agree with Joel that Tron Bolt is the flashing light here, but if they do go a little bit hard in front, he could get over the top of them, and he's probably won at $13, $14. If he had a gate, he'd be single figures for sure. So I think he's the one with the flashing light, maybe Caulfield Guinea's horse, but Guesthouse for me tomorrow.
Speaker 1Okay. There's a text here, Duff, from Ozzy the Bricky. He goes, Boys, why does everyone seem to forget Stormy Marco? I think it's just as good as Tron Bolt, but Tron Bolt seems to be the only one who gets talked about. Ozzy the Bricky, what do you make of Stormy Marco? We've got Craig Williams in town tomorrow. And James Rhodes, Stormy Marco, last start, James McDonald in that Ming Dynasty.
Speaker 2Yeah, look, I think Tron Bolt's already the Group 1 winner. He gets all the accolades, beautiful horse. Stormy Marco is definitely an up-and-comer. To my way of thinking, Tron Bolt, more your Caulfield Guinea's mile type. Stormy Marco could easily be a champion stakes type of horse, 2,000 metres. That's the impression he's giving me.

Speaker 3yeah i looked at the price so um he's getting very close duff to private eye i think now two kilos between him he's found himself very high in the weights here and he's going to be up against better horses i'm going to forgive the old nine-year-old up the top here um i'm hoping that he's still got a bit of zest for racing i want to forgive that first up run a few horses i think that was the gangster granny savvy halliday a few horses sort of pulled up a bit scratchy that day too and i think it was 60 kilos from gate three i can think he's in the first few and be hard to beat he was good first up on cosmic crusader he only got beaten two lengths spicy martini in australia i can see that he's going to be up against better horses i'm going to two starts before that he's beaten less than half length mazu who won the sprint race i mean that's absolute group one form um i'm with him i think he can get a good run in transit and he'd be hard to beat a starting mistake i know he's got no second up form but she's a good first up um back to the inside there i thought he's okay and yeah i get it with skyhook short enough um just creeping up in the weights and and i can serve harder opposition but i'm with the top one
Speaker 4yeah kind of much more the only thing that scares me with skyhook and the more i profile this horse i think he's better outside horses building he just hits that little flat spot didn't he last time out in over 1300 meters in that theo mark so when i looked at this race i thought there was less speed on paper than there is and i see punch lane was scratched from the trial so he's probably here he might be a fly in the ointment maybe sovereign hill comes across as well private eyes got speed magnatee's got speed skyhook's got speed so there's a little bit more speed on paper here that's why i think sterling was a little bit reserved yesterday with his judgment with 58 kilos

Speaker 2hard to tip against uh um yep the only feeling i got in this race is i'm to my eye um kieran star is humming um i think it can run second if the favorite stubs its toe i think i think it'll run really really well and i think it'll run really well she was tough in the first preparation she had five or six runs and but i just think she's come back you know it's hard to make a conclusive statement about something that hasn't been in the races but i just feel that just looking at her without looking at her in the fresh but on the screen in the trial she is going really really well so i thought she was second pick but i can't tip it a big blue door yep
Speaker 3um she picks herself here i tell you if you are going to go the race is and you do find if singo is there make sure you have some salt tablets in the morning and turn up with a thirst because you'll be able to quench it if she does get the job done here i love the that Nash goes on board. I love gate six, so she doesn't have to be hustled up underneath him. She can just cross when she wants to. I think it's not my type of prize, but I think it trades shorter than 180. I think Omolong's the hardest to beat here. And yeah, it's Kieran Starr trial. Well, oh yes, she did. She was very good behind Natural Fling two starts ago. Ran okay last start, but I think this favourite surely tomorrow is her day.
Speaker 4Yeah, if she can't win this tomorrow, I don't think she's ever going to win another race. Otherwise, they might be looking at maybe a race like the Red Roses over the Melbourne Cup Carnival for her. That looks like a nice race for her. But if she can't win this tomorrow, I don't think there is another nice race for her over this carnival. The danger I want to make is Half Pipe. I think he's a bit of a head case, this horse. He still has a few things wrong and gets his head up in the air and wants to go keen. But if they get along in front, and she's a free rolling horse as well, he just needs to execute. I think he can run second behind her, but hard to beat Blue Door.
Speaker 1Okay, race four on the card at Rose Hill. Benchmark 88. 1,900. Now, stars in their eyes. $2.25. Very, very well backed. Mr. Riz at $4.60. And you've got not much being held, anything else here, Duff. It's all about this favourite. Gee, it's hard to get away from favourites there tomorrow,
Speaker 2isn't it? Very, very hard to get away from the favourites. And I think the two favourites here, same stable, John and Tom. I think they're too far apart. I think they'll get further apart with the World Pool in action all day. They'll be all over McDonald's here. And I think the other horse has got a lovely racing style. They're similar profile. Second prep imports. Both look nice horses. I want to be with Mr. Riz because I know I'm going to get over the odds. Although, if they were, you know, three to one, each a two, I'd be tipping the other horse. Stars in their eyes. But I want to go with Mr. Riz here. I thought the horse he beat has won since. Grafton Street at Warwick Farm. And he's got more style as far as using the draw, taking a position, and the one I'm very wary of is Mook Taliff. He just didn't look ready, but the money come for him the other day. He's third up now. I'm a little wary of him. I think he might have something.
Speaker 3Yeah, this is a very, very good Benchmark 88-1900. There are some very good stays in this event that will go on to better things here. So it's a really, really good race. There's so many ways you could look at this. I've ended up going with Pinhole. I might be a runner early. Very, very good first up. Finished behind King Pedro last preparation. He was sort of single figures in a Metro before he got a temp. I think we'll see him in the Hill Stakes in a couple of weeks' time. And I think that's not bad. And he's probably on his way to, dare I say it, something like a Melbourne Cup. He ran in a monopolistic last preparation as well. He ran second in a Queensland Derby. So the form is good. Stars in their eyes for sure. You get the JMAC tax, as we talk about. Gate five. Hopefully he sits a little bit closer. But it does look to be good speed here. But Datsu is good. Athol fled. $51. I had something on her first up. I didn't think she was too bad. I don't know whether she'd be ready to win second up. But I heard Matt Smith with you again, Dave, during the week. Jeez, he's got an opinion of this mare. And I'm going to spec her probably on each way basis. But very tough race. On with Pinhole. I think he'll go on to better things after this. As I said, it might be a run short. But I'm with him at the double figures.
Speaker 4Yeah, of all the favourites, this is the one I like the most. This is the one I like the most. Stars in their eyes. But I think Tim was armed on Wednesday ready to go because they backed him. What, it was $26 into $5.50 last week. They missed a run. He was truckloaded first up. He started $2.40 there. It's all been well documented. It was wide, no cover. Made a big sweeping run but kept coming. This looks perfect for him, doesn't it, tomorrow? Good draw. McDonald up in trip, down in grade. It's all made for him to win this race tomorrow. I agree with Joel. Pinhole's the one. Same form lines. I think if I like the favourite, I have to like it. I like Pinhole coming through that same race. I'm not sure about that Muktalef and Anthracite race from the other week. I just think it was a bit of a jog trot in front. Anthracite got his own way. And Muktalef, just looking at him in the yard, he's a big prancing thing. He wasn't quite there in the code. I think he's got something, but I'm not sure it's this preparation. This is the Colin Stevens quality now our favourite here is Bella Montagna at 225. The one they've just, they've backed. No money really for anything else here, Duff. It's all about Bella.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's, I think she has to be the referred to horse here. She's third up, blinkers on. I think ready to go. Five, five and a half kilos. So you always got to give to everything here. And I think she'll be the one that's the benefit of it. I think she can win. I think she's the bet of the day. Short enough now. I was sort of thinking at 280. Yeah, okay. I'm happy to bet. 225 now. That is rock bottom. She's no superstar and doesn't win often, but I really like the way she presents here. I just got little doubts about that City Tats Cup form. And then this horse had that little setback and then he's paying the price with weight now, so you are. So I'm very comfortable to go with Bella Montagna here.
Speaker 3Yeah, if you've got something better to do, maybe have a beer and watch this. I can't believe I'm saying this. Duff, I'm going with one of your old mates here, Sam Hawkins. I would not be surprised if they give him a shove out of the gates here and try and go to the front and make this a staying event for him. Maybe try something new. I don't know. It's a race that I probably don't have a huge amount of confidence in. I understand Bella Montagna, but Amplify ran past her at Newcastle and then he sort of ran in. And for now, he's coming from those Queensland races. It's not a fabulous race. And I can understand the top weight, why he's carrying this much weight. But as you said, Ron, I mean, that Tats Cup form, I mean, where do you look? I'm with the three, but jeez, confidence very, very low.
Speaker 4Duff, does her dry track form scare you at all? Zero from 11?
Speaker 2Maybe a little bit. I understand some of her better form has been on those softer tracks, but look, the lead-ups have been on dry tracks. And I think there's enough in that Wyong Newcastle Cups to say, and that was pretty hard, that track at Newcastle. So I'm not letting it get into my head.
Speaker 4Yeah, I'm just going to go the other way. I just think she's too short in the context of her price, just with that dry track stats in the back of my head. And she's got the exact same form as horses like Amplify here. That ties into for now. That ties into so you are. I'm going to tip the top one. What you see is what you get with him. If Sam Hawkins, I think they're going to light him on fire tomorrow and really roll along. And try and liven him up in front. So I think that does suit so you are anyway, because he can just camp in behind him. And if it's a real grinding staying test, that'll suit him. He's deep in prep now. What you see is what you get, as I've said. So I'm going to go with the top one here, so you are.
