But I really just want to talk about them because if you look over the last couple of years, who won the Heisman last year, transfer quarterback, who won the Heisman the year before doesn't seem like it but transfer who won the Heisman the year before. Transfer went to Caleb went in when Jayden Daniels went in which one won it first. The years escaped me. I know. I know. I know. Okay. So 20 was Devote Smith. You're the Heisman guy. 21 was Bryce Young. I'm working through it. 22 was Caleb and 23 was Jayden Daniels or I have those flipped. Who won it first. They were in the same draft and Caleb came back. Okay. So Caleb won it first. Then Jayden Daniels won it. Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. So anyway, transfer quarterbacks. We've had a lot of transfer quarterbacks when the Heisman had a lot of quarterbacks. Matter this year, we have several teams that aim to be in the national title hunt. And they're leaning on quarterbacks. Let's bring up my top 10 transfer quarterbacks. And I will talk about each one because not every transfer quarterback is built the same. And who knows who's going to be a Fernando Mendoza and who knows who's going to be a who's a bust of a transfer quarterback Liam. Pay the lot of money in the amount to anything. Oh. You're on the spot. Who's a bust of a transfer quarterback. I'm thinking through it. Well, okay. That seemed like you can talk. Yeah, I'm just going to think about bad transfer quarterbacks. Sure. Take Martel is one Jackson Arnold is probably the best best example. Jackson Arnold was what? They paid what two million foreign last year and just got nothing. But that was also poor coaching. Number nine transfer quarterback. And this is a guy. Liam's going to get to do his list. He's still here because of upside DJ lagway at Baylor, but upside can only get you so far. And last year was such a remarkable disappointment. Now he had a shitty coach and he was in a shitty situation. Now he's going to, I guess a better, a better coach. I guess a better situation, but it's not like he's one of the best situation in the world. It is now his chance to turn this thing around. I got DJ lagway there based on upside number eight. I've got Colton, Joseph going over there to Wisconsin. This is a guy I, you're going to hear more about Wisconsin in a minute, but this is a guy that I'm very curious to see. They've just been such a dead end at quarterback the last couple of years with what they try to do. And now this is the latest attempt to get out of that. Number seven Rocco backed at Penn State. I bet Liam's got him higher. I just think he's pretty good. I think he's pretty good. I think all Penn State's going to need him to be as pretty good this year. Pretty good. It's probably going to get you 10 into or 93 at Penn State this year, but he's not. I don't think he's going to be Daria Menta. I don't think he's going to be, you know, Jaden Daniels. I don't think he's going to be any of those guys. I got him at seven. At number six and five, I have two guys that you're kind of just guessing on that you're kind of just absolutely projecting Kenny midget Kentucky and bring up Lincoln King holds at Louisville. two guys that are playing for offensive geniuses, two guys who are playing for good coaches, two guys who are now in the state of Kentucky, what, an hour away from each other. Menchi is definitely a guess. I think Keen Holtz, I think is more of a sure thing, but I like him both at six and five. Number four, I got Byron Brown at Auburn, and this is where I won't start talking. Where I won't start talking. Let me take a drink. Why is the chat saying Bobby? What did I say that wasn't Bobby? He is coming up from North Texas. They're bringing everything. They're bringing everything with him. What's he good last year because they threw every down in a conference that, you know, competitions was just okay. Is he good because Eric Morris was able to take advantage of him in a conference that wasn't as good as as what he was building there or is he really truly the return of Oklahoma State? I think of Oklahoma State over the last 20 years. It was quarterback, quarterback, quarterback. It was good, good, good. Now it's been bad for a couple of years. I don't know. I got him at three. He could be at one by the end of the year. He could be outside the top 10 at the end of the year. We've got number two, Josh Hoover and number one, Drew Amestemaker, Miami. That's my 10. That's what I think. Hoover, I like. I like a lot. He was good at TCU, but he was also bad at times at TCU. He turned the ball over a lot and I'm just not sure. I'm not 100% sure how significant he's going to deal with a quarterback if the quarterback is a mistake prone. He hasn't really had to deal with that at Indiana. If the quarterback is a mistake prone, makes a lot of mistakes, leads to them giving the ball away against Ohio State, leads to them giving the ball away in this game. I don't know how significant he's going. I don't know. I don't know how he's going to react, but maybe maybe he's significant in that coaching staff work it out of him. With Menza, I think he's the surest thing on the board. Hoover can end up number one on this list. Mestemaker could be number one on this list. Byron Brown could be number one on this list. But Menza is the surest bet on the board. That's what I think. Somebody says Aaron Filo at Florida. Sure. I guess even though we're not 100% sure. Are we sure yet he's taking the job? I probably put him at eight. Sam Levitt is going to have the best situation of any quarterback. Not named Daria Menza. So we're going to put him at eight. We're going to take Kate and Hal's are off of there and we're going to just drop him in at eight behind behind Rocco Beck. Sam Levitt is decent and he's got the best situation, but they got a $40 million roster and I look at Sam Levitt over the last couple of years. He went to the playoff a couple of years ago when he had Jordan Tyson and elite receiver. He had Skatebo and elite running back and those guys carried so much to the load. Last year when Skatebo was gone, they couldn't do much even though they still had an elite elite elite receiver. Now he's got good receivers, Alice. He doesn't have Jordan Tyson. He doesn't have Skatebo and he's got a coach that's going to throw him right in the fire. They're going to be in big games immediately. Clemson, Ole Mass right there in September. They got big games early. If they're going to win a national title, Sam Levitt has to be really, really, really, really good. I don't think he's capable of being really, really, really, really good, but I think Wayne Kiffin is capable of making a lot of quarterbacks, really, really, really good. So this is the guy that confuses me. This is the guy that really makes me think, "What do we make of them?" Because I just don't believe in Sam Levitt. I believe in LSU. I believe in Lane Kiffin. I don't believe in Sam Levitt. What have you got? I have Sam Levitt right smack dab in the middle of my list. We'll start with 10 and 9 for me. I'm taking the page out of Ebo's book. I didn't rake 9 and 10. I'm leaving that open. I'll stop you there. I'll stop you there. So I like the chat here. Shay Dawson says, "Lagway over Austin Simmons is insane. Lagway is awful." And this is where the emotional bitches that follow college football just ruin everything. Why don't you talk about Austin Simmons? He's a common Missouri fan. Austin Simmons played two games last year and played so poorly. They couldn't get him out of the job fast enough. He was not good. He was bad. He was handed the keys to a Ferrari last year. Slammed it into the wall in two games. Thank God for them. They had to run into that chambers. He wasn't good. When Lane Kiffin gets a new job, does he go and pick up the quarterback? He decided to start with last year? No. He went and got Sam Levitt. What does that tell you? Austin Simmons, the reason I did this list, the reason I did this list, some of you guys are begging for your quarterback to be on there. Florida fans are saying, "Please, I'll suck your dick if you put our guy on there." Missouri fans are, "Please show me our guy. Show me Austin Simmons." It ain't about you. The whole world ain't about your feelings. Austin Simmons was bad last year. Why do I think he's going to be good this year? Continue, Liam. Yeah. That might be one awkward car ride for a father that begged you to stop cussing on your show. Fair. Nine and ten are available for discussion. I am open to being impressed, chat. You have brought up Kalandria. You have brought up Jaden Craig. There is lagway. There are all these guys. Cutter Bully, Marcus Stokes. It's up for discussion. I am ready to be impressed. Eight is Byron Brown. Seven is Keane Holes. I think Keane Holes is fastening. I see him throw the football on a consistent basis. Levitt, Levitt's a guy where I don't know what to do with them. So I want him in the middle of this. He could be as high as one when this ends. He could be at 10 when this ends. Highson Lowes, man. Is he all there with his character and everything? Don't know. Colton Joseph, I think, has some of the most potential of any transfer core back in the country. I don't think people realize how sought after Colton Joseph was. This was kid that was all set to go to Vandy until the Jared Curtis flip was constant. Get some could be could do wonders for Luke fickle and his job security. Colton Joseph is an electric two way thrower and runner. The kid could do both. Rocco backed that before. I think the schedule helps him with a gang of higher ranking here. He still throws a nice football and everything. Mensa set three. I'm not as I'm a Mensa guy, but I'm not as sold on him being as sure of a thing as you are. I think when you watch the Mensa tape, it is littered with highs and plenty of lows. He takes risks to Josh Hoover. I disagree with you. I think Signeti and that offense that they've got going to Indiana really helps the quarterback limit the turnovers. It's going to do wonders for Josh Hoover where it's more about the mind than the arm talent and the kid has great arm talent. Number one, speaking of arm talent, Drew Messamaker. The kid makes throws all sorts of angles to the far hash list that he is fascinating. He kills it with his receivers with that deep lung speed. Messamaker. I can't wait to watch an exciting Oklahoma state again, Brando. Yeah. Yeah. I am too. I'm ready to welcome Oklahoma state back to major college football. I hated. I've hated the last few years and we talked to Andy Staples in a minute and he talks about Oklahoma state and why he believes in him this year. I hated the last couple of years when when Oklahoma and Texas left the big 12, I really thought it was Oklahoma state's prime opportunity to grab that league by the throat and be the big dog in that league and they did the exact opposite. That Gandhi just does not embrace the portal. He does not embrace NIL. He's not embraced the new era of college football and immediately grandfather is his way out of the sport just says, you know what? I'm done. I don't understand this new era. Oklahoma state hires a new coach who knows what he's doing. They open the purse rings and bam, they're right back into it. But yeah, there are other guys like Kalandria at Nebraska is interesting to me. I like Kalandria and Nebraska. There's a lot of interesting guys. I don't know. We really should go back over the last five years and think what was the best year of transfer of quarterbacks is I don't think this will be remembered as the best year of transfer of quarterbacks. I truly don't believe we've got a Fernando Mendoza in this group. Unless it's Mendoza, unless Mendoza grabs Miami by the by the collar and drags him to an national title. Not really drags them. They're loaded everywhere else. But anyway, so there you go. There's my 10 and I went back because I was about to get on Loki's ass in front of all of y'all. I was about to get on Loki's ass for messing up my list. The list I sent him an hour ago. I forgot Sam Levin on that too. So that's that's that's just me. And the entire reason I wanted to talk about this topic was Sam Levin. So Sam Levin to me right in the middle of the top 10. I think he's what holds LSU back this year. I like to say these things in the beginning to give them a chance. If Sam Levitt just puts it in my face, wins our Heisman, wins the national title, bam, just Sam Levitt, shove it right down my throat, fight, wait, time, what, I got a call pause there. Who said, who said what? You said something gree just played overlooking Michael Hawkins at WVU, not even a peep. You know what J.R.S. I hear what you're saying. I would counter with, I would counter that by saying the unfortunate reality for West Virginia and you is I actually saw Michael Hawkins play football. And watching Michael Hawkins play football was the number one way to decide Michael Hawkins isn't a very good quarterback at playing football. And that's just me. I do like to judge quarterbacks by the way they play football. And unfortunately, he can't. That's what I have to say about that. Add number one, not add number one. Uh, but anyway, they can anyone start. Well, West Point has a new coach who's already on the staff offensive line coach Roger Burton. And then, um, we bring back zero starters on defense. So we're going to have to build the defense, but West Point Mississippi, West Point green wave is built on defense. We've been playing defense in our sleep teams don't come to the graveyard and score points. So just, uh, just be careful. Nico Dark Horse for Heisman. No. Thing number two, five teams. I don't know what to do with five teams. I don't know what to do with. I know what to do with certain teams. I know I believe a and m isn't going to be as good as they were last year. I know I believe that Oregon is probably going to be in the final four might win a national title. I know I believe certain things about teams. I, I look at them. I come out with it immediately. These teams right here. I look at it and I think, ah, what, what do you do with that team? Number one, Oklahoma State. We talked about them earlier. It's a wide open conference. It's a conference where 16 teams will start and all 16 are thinking we have a chance to be pretty good this year. It's a, it's a conference where Texas tech is way ahead of everybody with the roster. But if they didn't figure out the quarterback situation, they will be beatable for certain teams. Oklahoma State is the team that should be winning that conference every single year. I think they're on the way back. I think the purse strings have been opened up. I think this is a good coach. I think this is a good quarterback. But do you go from the abomination they were last year to immediately competing? Do you go from being that bad to good all of a sudden? I know Indiana's did a couple of years ago, but I, I don't know. I don't know what to do with Oklahoma State. I can see Oklahoma State going nine and three and being right in the mix in the big 12. I can see Oklahoma State going five and seven. Do you know what to do with Oklahoma State Liam Blutman? Yeah. I know I'm buying stock. I know I'm buying stock in Eric Morris. I know I'm buying stock in the offensive minds that they have. I know I'm going to continue buying stock in Mestermaker, his wider sewers and the ring back that they take from you and TK of Hawkins. It was just the absolute force, a bowling ball, a guy that is going to cut through defenses and help take some off of Mestermaker's plate. They're going to be a very dynamic offense defensively. I've got a clue. Luke, bring up the Texas Longhorn schedule because this is the second team. And I've included it in my eight teams who can win the national title, the eight teams who can win the national title are Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma. Those are my eight teams that come in the national title. I've got them in there. The more I think about it, the more I think about Texas, that schedule is so brutal. And by the end, archmaning was pretty good last year. What if he sucks in the beginning again? What if he's a slow starter? What if he's a guy that doesn't come out of training camp ready to go? What if he's a guy that doesn't isn't great in September? Well, they're going to find out real fast because I got Ohio State in week two again. And if they were to lose Ohio State in week two, let's walk through it. You've got a road trip to Tennessee a little bit later. You got Oklahoma in Dallas. You got Florida coming in, that's fine. You got Ole Miss coming in. That's probably fine. You got Mississippi State coming in. That's going to be a war. You got Missouri. You got at LSU. You got at Texas A&M. This is not easy at all. If, if, if, if they lose to Ohio State, the margin of error is gone. And there's a lot of error on that on that schedule. I think they will be fine. I think they will be in the playoff. I think they can win the national title. But I have no balls with Oregon. I have no balls with Ohio State. I have no balls with Georgia. I have no balls with any of those teams in that list. Texas makes me pause a little bit. Liam, do Texas make you pause? Or am I just being a big bitch? No, I actually did tick talk about Texas making me pause the other week. I think another thing the factor in is there's only so much football to go around. And attitudes are definitely something I'm honored. You've got Cam Coleman Ryan Wingo, the two great Ryan backs. There's not enough football to go around and make everyone happy. That's something you got at the OS. So, yeah, we'll see. Yeah. And just the schedule. And last year, you know, at the end, with Texas fans and maybe a little bit of sarking them kind of saying, yeah, if we hadn't scheduled Ohio State, we would have been in playoff. Yeah, we've been lost Ohio State. You would have been in the playoff. Maybe say it like that because this year, you got him again, you got him at home, you better beat him. If you don't beat him, we're right back where we always are with Texas wondering what if my number three team, I don't know what to do with. I don't know what to do with Virginia Tech. I know it's an infusion of roster talent. I know it's an infusion of excitement. It is waking up a dead program. It's a league where you can make some progress pretty quickly, but it's not a league. I think you can go from zero to winning it quickly. You're not going to be better than Miami. You're probably not going to be better than Louisville or SMU. So I don't know what to do with Virginia Tech. I think about it. I look at James Franklin and I go eight and four, then I go four and eight. And four and eight is probably a lot wilder of a thought than eight and four is, but I don't know exactly, I don't know exactly what to do when it comes to Virginia Tech. What do you think about Virginia Tech? Virginia Tech is a team have no idea to do it. I have no idea what to do with Grant. It's right there. Quash marks everywhere. Like Quirkymeyer. It's great that he was at Penn State. It's great that he was already with Franklin. He never proved anything to us. He never proved what he can do. And now you're going to go into a league and I just, a league with, by the way, probably five or six really good quarterbacks. I added Oklahoma because I like mature with the defense They built over there. Um, would you add anybody else or does that list feel about right to you? So Pete Naco's who is is our all star reporter on three knows the payroll market better than anyone because he he does the transfer portal stuff He's tight with all the agencies. He's tight with all the GM's We did a list together. He and I got together the other day and we were just we were just Naming teams trying to figure this out because Steve Sircudian says something really interesting I want to say during spring practice. He's like There's a certain number payroll wise that you got to hit to be able to compete for the national title It's not the most. It's not 50 million dollars, but you have to be In this neighborhood you have to be above this line once you once you hit that minimum threshold Then it becomes about coaching and evaluation and everything else. So like Indiana Probably spent about 20 to 22 million dollars last year whereas the teams that paid the most probably spent like 35 million So they they were in the neighborhood. They hit the number And after that it was coaching and evaluation We came up with 20 teams for him. 20 Really because we're living in a world where Indiana just won the national championship. You're right But does that number move up like like like I'm gonna let you say what you're gonna say But does that mean like the number might have been the average was 24 million last year But maybe this year the big spenders went up and it and tighten the group a little bit or is it just we're still early in this? We we said basically like 28 million and up felt like the right number Jesus and so 20 teams to hit that mark. Yeah, I'm gonna see if I can name all 20 We did it off the top of our heads and realize we counted to 20, but I'm too dumb to write it down. So Texas Notre Dame Miami, Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana Texas Tech LSU, Oklahoma, Michigan That's 11 USC's 12 Ole Miss Alabama Texas A&M sure Washington That may surprise you yeah, we at 16 right now. Yeah Don't know that her pen state. I don't know if they invest. Yeah, that's it. That's one because I was kind of right on the line There were two more and I can't remember who they are now three but if you had 20 Oh, I'm a 17 about that. Did I say A&M already? You said A&M. I don't know if you said Michigan I did say Michigan. I definitely said Michigan Pro we may have we may have had Florida and Auburn in there. Sure because they're definitely in that neighborhood. Yeah Pay-wise. So I think we were just trying to cover with the number who's above the line So Florida Auburn and then there would have been one more big 10 team In there that was above that number. Okay, but but what what I'm saying is Realistically there's probably 10 to 15 that can win the national title that that are paying enough and have good enough coaching scheme evaluation To do it which really which really is or is like a two Two-edged sword right or double-edged sword because if you're paying that much and you get in that group You better perform in that group this year, right? You better perform in that group every single year or now you're in trouble like Seems our Keyes and they spend all the money in the world But these teams if you there's 20 teams spending that much money. There ain't room for 20 teams to be elite in college football That's not really how it works. So there's going to be some teams that get a lot of disappointment this year and um I I'd still you know drilling down on the ones that kind of actually win it I guess I am but because I didn't put Ole Miss in my list of teams actually win it I didn't put Alabama in my teams and all this might have the best quarterback in the country Yeah, but I just cannot I cannot accept this fact I cannot accept the idea That you can lose a coach of that quality and get better. I just really lost the coach of that quality and beat Georgia when they had him They didn't beat Georgia. That's true, but they were two coin flip games. They were the one time the coin flip came up them one time the coin flip came up. They played them about the same both times. They just finished. They did. But he got the cost in that game. Pete Golding won in that game. So fair enough. But really, I mean, is it not the offensive coordinator to say that one in the game? Cause their, their defense still gave up 35 points. Like, so, so anyway, I'm just, we're not picking at this point, right? We're not picking because I have a very good quarterback. I just don't know how you lose a lane, Kiffin, and a Charlie wise junior. And you just pick up like nothing, nothing happens. So that's why I'm kind of if he on them. Also, I hate them. So I'm always going to be if he on them. Right. Let me, let me be a hater. Andy, or I don't, I'm not like everybody else. I'm going to hate. And that's just what I'm about. And that's what I'm going to do. Um, who are you scared? Cause this is, dovetails right into my next question. We can, we can, we can, we can separate the seven at the top of those spenders. Who are you scared might not live up to expectations? Who might not, who might not deliver on the money they spent? Cause Texas probably has what on paper looks like the most complete roster in college football. Yeah. They, they should make the playoff at least offensively. Yeah. Right. And they should go deep in the playoff. But they had a really good roster last year and they didn't make the playoff. They, they still, I mean, they got Ohio State week to their, their SEC schedule is hard. And they could be nine and three and miss it. Now, I, I still think, I don't even know how much longer we're going to have a 12 team playoff. But I do think you keep playing a 12 team playoff a nine and three team that played a hard schedule is going to make it at some point. I agree. But they are one of the ones that that schedule is going to challenge them in so many different spots. I mean, look, you're, your team should have beaten them last year. Yeah. I'm aware. I, I don't know if you saw, but I had a very good view of that. I, I, I did, I did see that. So they should have lost the Kentucky last year. Like, yeah. They, but I do think they've improved a lot. I think they did lose to float. They did lose to Florida, by the way. Yeah. I mean, Florida, Florida beat them soundly on the line of scrimmage, which was weird because Florida didn't do that to anybody else. But they, they really flipped the running back room, which they needed to do. So they got relief Brown and Hollywood smothers. Cam Coleman gives them a true wide receiver one that they didn't have. And I mean, we all saw that catch up a weekend. And it was a tip. All haters. That was my favorite is the immediate responses. Who threw that? The only thing with that play is if, if, um, if college football legend were written based on, uh, based on the clips we see out of practice, Cam Coleman probably would already have two Heisman trophies because he, and if he's had a lot, he could have picked a quarterback in the last three years, he probably have one too. But he, he has a lot of practice clips where you're like, Oh my God. And then the game, you know, there's some drops. There's some obviously terrible quarterback play and terrible coaching. So, so it's now, it's best version. It's probably going to be the best version of him, best version of Texas. Although can I just push back on one thing? It's not really a pushback. I think that Wingo kid for Texas is really damn good too. And I, he is. He might not be a number one of the, to the level of Cam Coleman, but he's better than probably 115 number ones in this country. Well, that's, that's the thing. I mean, Ohio State's been doing that for years where they're, their number one is awesome. And then they're, their number two is also a first rounder. Look at the, what the first play the Vanderbilt game last year when Wingo takes the little drag route and just goes all, all day. The other one I watch for, you know, with that dynamic is Miami because Daryl and Mrs. Not the only guy they got from Duke. They got Cooper Barcai who was the leading, I don't know if he led the ACC in receiving yards, he had 1100 receiving yards last year. He definitely led the Ivy League in receiving yards at Harvard the year before. But Cooper Barcai was working against the best corner on every team last year. He will never see the best corner on an opposing team this year because Malachi Tony exists. Yeah. Now it's, it's crazy how, you know, in the era of the super team not really existing, you're still, because it's flattened a little bit like the Georgia roster of 2021, 2022, we'll probably never see that again, but you can still, you can still have like super units and like that, that Texas offense that looks so loaded at every single position, every single part, but, but does that come at the cost of somewhere else that a weakness that we don't know yet? Well, we'll have to say, um, let me ask you about the Bryce Underwood quotes. I don't know if you've talked about this or if you've, yeah. On my show Wednesday, we, we hit it hard because it was, it was weird. We, we were in Columbus last Thursday and talked to Ryan Day and Julian Sain. We, we ran the day interview and then say the saying interview for Tuesday's show. So the saying interview comes out where Julian Sain is like, because I asked him, do you ever say the M word? Because they're not allowed to say Michigan. If they, if you play for Ohio State, they're supposed to say the team up north. And he said, no, he said, no, you, when you come here, that game becomes your livelihood. And we had put that quote out. And then John Fanta drops the Bryce Underwood clip. And it's like, holy, holy shit. These guys are complete polar opposites in how they think about this thing. Yeah. Are you like me? Are you tired of Fanta's shit? He's already got college basketball. He's going to come take college football from us. Fanta, let us have something over here. Fanta is smarter than us, Brandon. I know. And he's better than us. But whatever he's, he's smarter than us. He, he, he went to a big e-school. So he got into college basketball because that's the, the entry plus not a lot of people doing college basketball. So gets great at that. We, we're going to just all be living in his world. Like going to NBC was the ultimate stroke of genius because he's, he's doing big 10 football right now. He's going to be doing dream team basketball during the Olympics. He's already doing NBA. He's, he's, I, I would put him on Sunday night NFL because I love him. And he's much more likable than me and he's, he's better. Yeah. Yeah, you and I have the same problem is, is we're both terrifically unlikable. Like Josh Pate, you just love him. You want to hug him. We are, we are very unlikable people. Well, also because he's scared to say anything bad about anybody. Um, secondly, um, so, um, the Bryce Underwood quote, I accidentally stumbled into a quote that I said the other day. I was on the dark local show out of Tulsa or not Tulsa Oklahoma city. Um, so I was on there. And we were talking about Oklahoma. He was asking me, I've had a long standing beef with Oklahoma fans like I have beef with everybody else. And I just simply said, he asked me to sum it up. I said, listen, when it comes to college football fandom, college football is where passion overwhelms intelligence. And I said that not knowing that I was saying something profound and brilliant, which I want to do. I do that all the time. But I want to bring that quote right now to the Bryce Underwood because what Bryce Underwood said was, you know what? I'm just a quarterback. And that's just another game. It's just another, it was a loss for us. It's just one of 12. And that is correct. That is right. That is absolutely the way an athlete probably should view. He should view every game as another opportunity to go out there and win a football game. And he should. But in the world of college football, we won't accept it. We won't accept that this game against Ohio State against arrival. Isn't the most important thing in your life that dominates your life? It's crazy. That we have this sport that is so passionate. Sometimes when a guy says something as smart and as common sense as he said, we still poo poo it because we just have to because of college football. What do you think about all that? What do you think about people him saying something so reasoned and so common sense? And we're like, no, no. Well, so I, I defended Kyle Wittingham a couple of weeks ago when he said, I don't hate Ryan Day. Hates a strong word. Hates a strong word. Because I, because I'm sure your mom is the same way. My mom always told me, you don't say you hate somebody unless you really, really mean it. Yeah, we have two very different upbrings because I got a lot of hate stories. But go ahead. I actually believe Ryan Day hates Michigan. I believe Ryan Day has hated Michigan since Jim Harball made the third base comment. So at least, at least, but I'm fine with it. Witting him in the same breath did say how special the game was. So that's funny. Yeah. Bryce Underwood said the game wasn't special. I didn't think about it till, till Ari and I were discussing it on the show. And like Ari covered Ohio State for 10 years. This offends him like the idea that somebody doesn't believe Michigan Ohio State is the most important thing in the entire world. I'm not as offended by it. But I didn't think about this. So Ari brought it up in this era of college football. If you're the Michigan quarterback, the highest paid player on the team, it's bad for business to say something like that. Say the thing that get the fans the red meat they want to eat up. Like you're costing yourself endorsement money at this point. Like give the fans what they want like 10 years ago. Yeah, say that. But as far as the game goes itself, it is bigger. It is more special. It's okay to acknowledge that because Nick Saban was the ultimate nameless faceless opponent. We treat everybody the same. Yeah. I found a quote from him before the 2021 Auburn game. So before the 4 overtime game against Brian Harson. And he goes, you try to treat every game the same, but there's certain games where you can have a really good season. But if you lose that game, everything will come with a butt after that. Yeah. And that's fair. that's very fair. When it comes to Ryan Day, one of the things I thought, and Mark Titus, my co-host on mostly sports said something. I thought was very smart. He said, you know, when they lost a Michigan a couple of years ago and the way Ohio State lost when they were at home and Michigan with a bad quarterback and bad game plan came in and beat him, it looked like Ryan Day's hatred had grown too much and the game was too overwhelming to him and they got in the second quarter of a close game and they just got tight and they were scared of their own shadow and they just, and at some point, he tried to, he tried to beat them using Michigan's style. Right. He thought it was important how he beat him. He thought it was important. Not only we're going to beat him, we're going to show him we're tougher than they are and that's just stupid because you're, you might be tough, but you've got speed and you've got athleticism, you've got something they don't have. Use it. And anyway, he goes on and wins the national title. I think that national title six weeks later shows him like maybe this football game, let me just pull back a little bit, pull back. And then Bryce Underwood says the same thing. I don't know. It's a run rate. No, I asked Ryan Day about the game. Yeah. Six days ago. It's still very important in. You can tell he's, he's still seeding a little bit. Oh, yeah. Okay. All right. And look, if Harbaugh said something like that about me, I'd feel the same way. Yeah. Yeah. Fair enough. You dropped your top 25. Okay. Yeah. Your, your previous season, top 25. And I'm sure if I know friends in Tennessee, if I know the internet, I know the internet is taking this in a very reasoned and very practical way. And they're simply saying, well, you know what? That's Andy Staples opinion. And I respect it. I do have some questions as I go through it. I didn't even write down Tennessee. You don't have to Tennessee in top 25 at all. I didn't. I think that's fine. I, I, yeah. Listen, if you're going to tell me you're, you're a very good team, the first question you need to answer is who's your quarterback. And they can't really do it right now. So, so like, okay. So if you don't have that question, why don't you deal with that question before you demand to be in my top 25? Okay. I noticed you had Ohio State six in Indiana seven. I'm going to imagine, I'm going to believe that's probably lower than most people in this country have either of those teams. Why do you have those at six and seven? I had to concoct a scenario because I had done a playoff prediction bracket the week before. And I wanted to continue the scenario that I advanced in that bracket, which I didn't do it on purpose. But I ended up setting up an Ohio state Michigan rematch in the first round of the playoff with Michigan winning it after losing to Ohio State in Columbus. So the way they had to be set up a certain way. It had to be set up where Ohio State loses to Texas beats Michigan in the, in the, in the, in the game. And then advances to the big 10 title game and loses to Oregon because that's the only way I could set up that playoff game. So that's why that's why I had them where they were. Follow up question. What drugs were you owned that made you put Michigan in the playoff? The drugs that they were nine and three last year with a coach who was probably pretty worried about some other things that weren't football, who was busy screaming in his defensive coordinator, who was probably a little concern that the head coach was worried about some things that weren't football. Sure. Who, who had a true fresh and quarterback that he didn't actually play into play and then Mikey King got hurt and he ended up playing him. But they said, Hey, Sharon, you should probably have a dedicated quarterback coach. He's like, nah, why would our true freshman quarterback need that? So now they have an incredibly competent coach who kept everybody in the roster brought in more talent and a dedicated quarterback coach. Fair enough. I like that explanation. And plus, not only did they play the true freshman quarterback, but it was very obvious they were playing that true freshman quarterback using a game plan that was clearly devised for somebody else. That thing was not devised for Bryce Underwood to thrive. It was just, it just wasn't. But anyway, you know, I like that. Now you have Alabama at 16. That's down in the territory that I would have them. And people, when I do it, I'm looked at as this generational Alabama hater, but I look at an Alabama team that yeah, the roster might look good on paper, but I was very concerned. Some of their losses last year when they just laid down at Florida state, when they lay down against Indiana, I know the quarterback was hurt, but they still 38-3. That just doesn't happen to Alabama. That doesn't happen to the way they play football. I don't like the signs out of that program. So I have them low. Why do you have them at 16? Same reason, same, same reasons you do. And they can very quickly move back up if they show that the changes because remember, they revamped their offensive line. They fired the offensive line coach. They bring in a dream climb to coach that position. They bring in a new tight ends coach. So the defensive line looks a lot different this year. It's a lot bigger and longer. So all that looks better for a couple of weeks. Like they play Kentucky week two in Lexington. That's going to be a really interesting game because Kentucky would have bought an offensive line. Yeah. Right out of the right out of the shoot. And so if Alabama man handles a team like that, I'm going to be like, okay, never mind. I was wrong. Let's put them in the top 10. But we also don't know who the quarterback's going to be. You know, it's either Austin, Mackerel, Heel and Russell. Russell feels like the one who's more of a creator when things break down. If they still can't run the ball, maybe he can give them a little more of a running game. But I don't know if they might be able to run the ball. I mean, they've got a couple of freshmen running backs. They're excited about. And again, we don't know if this offensive line that is completely revamped is going to look good or not. Last last team I want to ask I ask about, I think you're aggressive on this team. I like, I like them coming forward. I like what they did in the off season. You know, they obviously changed the coach. They changed the quarterback. You got Oklahoma State ranked at 23. I think everybody likes Oklahoma State and likes what they're doing. Put them at 23. The 23rd best team in the country right now seems aggressive. Why what's what are you basing that on? I've been an Eric Morris guy since he was in Carney word. Yeah. I just think he's really good at finding talent. He's really good at running an offense. He knows what he's doing. The fact that these guys were really good at North Texas. And then you you port them and then add pieces out of the transfer portal that are capable of playing the big 12. I think it's going to work. And I think it's going to work immediately. Because I think what was going on last year is might going to set it himself. Like he came on our show at big 12 media days. And like Ari and I just jaws just dropped when he's like, yeah, I didn't believe it. And I thought NIL was going to was a like a flash in the pan and was going to go away. And I like excuse me. And so Oklahoma State's donors obviously knew that long ago. And they were basically bleak, you know, starving them out. They didn't give them any resources. There's a reason they were the worst team in school history last year, despite having the best coach in school history. They turned the faucet back on when Eric Morris got there. Okay. Yeah. And made sure that he had what he needed. And look, the big 12 is ripe for this because you've got Wittingham leaving Utah. There's a little bit of a talent drain there. I still think Utah will be good. I think Morgan's gotta be fine there. But it's not that it's not a guarantee that they're going to be the second or third best team in the conference. I think BYU is still going to be really good. But I think there's a there's an opportunity there. You've got change at Kansas State. You've got, you know, Houston should be good. We know where Texas Tech is. But there's an opportunity to be one of the best three or four teams in the conference. Yeah. I agreed with that fully. I think this season, if I had to find it going in, of course, defining a season going in is pointless and useless, but we do it every single year. And I'm going to do it right now. I think this season going in, the most fascinating storyline to me is there's three guys and with all due respect to Mario Crystal ball of play for a national title last year. I mean, there are three coaches and three programs fighting to break through to win the national title this year. And I truly believe the national champ is coming out of these three coaches and these three teams. And it is Steve Stark using it Texas, Dan landing in Oregon, Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame. Those are three coaches who have never done it. Those are three programs or ones never done it. One hasn't done it forever. One hasn't done it forever and a half. One of them's breaking through this year. I truly believe that which one would you put your money on? Which one would you lean on right here out of the gate? I want to say day in landing because it it feels like I mean, he's lost eight games at Oregon and I think four of them were to the team that won the national title that year. Yeah. You say I'm glad you said that. I'm glad you said that because most people do say landing. And honestly, if you look at it on the surface, it feels like landing. I just can't just I'm really having a hard time justifying. And I know they've lost the national champs. They lost the Indiana. They lost all the way. They got knocked out. They were down 34 nothing against Ohio State in seconds. A couple of years ago. And then last year picks six on the first play of the game. They were never in the game. It's Ohio State. They were never in the game against Indiana. And we knew they had the capability being Ohio State because they had already done it. And we knew they could hang Well, Indiana because they'd already done it and beat him, but they'd hung with them. So why then in the playoff is it just bam, they're just, they're, they're killed immediately. I can't just, I don't know how to adjust, well, those are two different circumstances because organ and one, two games in the playoff last year. Obviously, Jamie was not a challenge for them, but I did watch them completely dominate Texas second, the Orange Bowl. Sure. And then I was, I was at their, their Orange Bowl game and their peach bowl game. The peach bowl, I'd look at differently than the Rose Bowl against Ohio State the year before, the Rose Bowl against Ohio State the year before, there's no excuse for like they just didn't show up, they were flat. You can say they ran into a bus, but they had beaten that team already. There was, there was no excuse for the way they came out. Last year, they had zero healthy running backs. They were going to lose to whoever they played in the semis. It did not matter if they had played Ole Miss or Miami, they still would have lost by a lot like they were cooked at that point, which we're going to find that in a 12 team playoff scenario where somebody has a position group that gets completely decimated and they're helpless. That's what organ was at the end of last year. So I don't look at the way that Indiana beat them as representative. I, the, the Rose Bowl is still concerning, but I just think the way he puts teams together, the way he puts rosters together, he learned a lot from Kirby Smart. They, they look a lot like Georgia did and especially on the D line, like, yeah, Amari Washington and getting, getting out of this at a Barry Alexander. After Georgia and USC, I would have said, oh, you know, why, why do they take in the chance on this guy? He's already shown you what he is. They, they turned him into a great player and then they have a tail, we're going to lay. So I, yeah, I, I just, I like that roster a lot. I still like Texas' roster, probably the most. So the start with Sark, like, it feels like he's right there too. His, his Achilles heel's a red zone. Yeah. Throughout his career and obviously the one play everyone will point to is that pitch wide, wide, wide against Ohio State in a, in a cotton bowl. But that has historically been his Achilles heel. So if he ever gets the red zone thing fixed, they're cruising to a national championship. Like they, they got everything else. Yeah. I, I agree with that. I've got a couple more questions for you. I know your time is, is almost as valuable as mine. But so here are my, here are my questions. I got three rapid fire right here at the end. Um, the pack 12 is back this year, right? The, the pack 12 was back. And I use, if you listen on the podcast, I did air quotes because it's back in name. Uh, Andy, am I, am I a bad fan? I just, I can't, I can't get there with this version of the pack 12. I can't get myself to care. I can't, we get myself to say, Oh, wow, the pack 12 was back. I just longed for, for the regional conferences we had back in our lives. By long, for these super conferences to not be as big and I long for actual pack 12 football. And this year, I know they're putting together an honest effort to, to get these teams into a group and it's good. But I can't get there any of my bad person. You're not, you're not. I was talking to someone, the other day who works at Texas State. And I said, something about winning the American. And they looked at me. Yeah. I had three heads and like, Oh, no, I'm so sorry. You guys went to the pack 12, not the American, uh, because they, they were in the Sunbelt and, and now they're in the pack 12. And it is, it is very confusing. Um, we had Jason Eck on our show from New Mexico on Wednesday. New Mexico remained in the Mountain West. But boys, he stayed Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, right. All left. So they, they're all in the pack 12. You're not a bad fan. And it's okay to like the conferences we grew up with the way the conferences were aligned when we grew up like when, when you and I were in high school and college, especially in college, the big east had good teams. Yes. Yeah. There were six really good deep conference. They were all super deep. But they, they all could produce a national champion. And it's not like that anymore. And the, the original sin that has caused everything else is these giant conferences that every, because they're trying to retcon the rest of the sport into a system where you have 18 and 17 and 16 team conferences. It wasn't built for that. Like when we were in college, the whack went to 16 teams. It was an utter disaster. Yeah. It should have been a lesson. I, and, and these big conferences just allow bad schedules to exist. They allow murderous schedules to exist. Like the two teams can play in the same conference. Be of equal talent. One goes 10 and two against the cake schedule. One goes five and seven because they're playing a playoff team every week. It's just, it's just crazy. I have a take that I am. It's in the oven right now. I'm watching it. I would like for you to look over my shoulder at it. Here's my take. Everybody talks about NIL the transfer portal flattening out the rosters at the top. You'll no longer have the super team saving can't dominate every year. Alabama can dominate every year. Georgia can't dominate every year because it's flat at the top. I also think I'm working on this take. I think it also has flattened out at the bottom. I don't think we have true laughing stocks like we used to. I'm looking at the conferences coming in this year. Now Purdue is in a bad shape and they got to fight back. But I look in the conferences like in the SEC Arkansas will be bad. And I know the chat right now saying Mr. States left stock. Not really. We're five and seven last year where we're just very exciting quarterback. We're just average bad. We're not laughing stock bad. And I don't look in the SEC outside of Arkansas. I was trying to rebuild it with what's overfield now. I don't see any laughing stocks there. I don't see any laughing stocks on the big 12. Big 12 is like 16 teams. They mostly all think they're going to be pretty good in that conference. They mostly all think they have a chance. And I just I just think the true laughing. The only one I can think of is North Carolina right now because they're situation in Boston college. If they don't get a lot better. Sure. Syracuse will be much better than they were at the end of last season because when they had their quarterback. When Steven jelly was healthy last year, they were actually pretty good. But Maryland was four and eight last year. And I know Lossley took a lot of crap for saying. And you know, there are blue three fourth quarter leads. They should have they should have won six or seven games last year. I think the bottom of these leagues is a lot more competitive than it used to be. And I don't think we have the true. Oh, that team's going to go in 12 this year. And there's nothing they can do about it. I think this this sport has just compacted itself to where the top is not as top and the bottom is not as bottom. And I don't know really how to say it. Again, the only laughing stocks I can think of are like self-inflicted like Bell checking the the situation that they got going on there. We don't know what's going on there and other stuff. I think the true. Send the true laughing stock and the true embarrassing program is kind of done. Is that take worth taking out of the oven? So I cook it a little bit more. So I'm going to take the toothpick and drop it into sure into your take. It's coming out clean. Pull that out of the oven. You're good. Because I think you're right. I look every big 10 schools rich, every SEC schools rich. There's no excuse for you to be terrible. We just watched Indiana, which was legitimately one of the most terrible programs in the history of college football. Yeah. When the national title, it not everybody's going to be able to hire their own Kurt Sigmetti, but you can hire a competent coach and a competent general manager and you can deploy all of those dollars sensibly. And you don't have to like if you're a Purdue, you don't have to spend with Ohio State, what Ohio State spends to be competitive. Yeah. You will have enough money to be competitive. You just have to spend it right. And even like last year's laughing stock, like you said, this is a team that you said earlier, Oklahoma State, they, they bottomed out, they snapped their fingers, they turned the faucet back on. And here we go. The errors pointed right back up. It's, it's, there's a, there's a caught of sold to this. I don't know what that word is. When you have a coach who tells you they need patience and time. Yeah. Fire's ass. Billy Napier or Florida was the one who preached that. He was like, well, we're going to the year four. I don't know what you want me to do. Like, um, dignity went to the playoff in year one due to Indiana. So he's kind of ruined if everybody else. My last question, uh, thank you for being here. Andy, um, I think playoff or bust is a dangerous, uh, a dangerous statement. And it's impossible to say playoff or bust in somebody's first year. That's not fair. It's not right. You would never expect it. But if you spend 40 million on a roster. And if you're, if you're the loudest guy in, in the sport and you leave a playoff team during the playoff, if you leave a championship team during the playoff, you kind of maybe playoff or bust for LSU. Is that crazy? Oh, there's no maybe about it. It's playoff for us. Wow. You didn't do all this. You didn't dump Brian Kelly. You didn't pay Lane Kiffin. You didn't pay for this roster to not make the playoff like the goal at LSU is to win the national title. Yes. If you're not making the playoff, you're not coming close to meeting your goals. The goal is to win the national title. Does he have to win the national title in year one? No, that would be unreasonable. Should he make the playoff given what he has? What, what advantages he was given given his history of being able to flip teams quickly? Yes. Yeah. And now I want to push back on something that you say a lot because I heard you talking defending Dan Mullin, which I do think Dan Mullins an excellent football coach. And I know he's going to get another chance at a power conference. And I'm actually very excited to see him in this era where you don't necessarily have to recruit a bunch of five stars at a high school. But you, you get on Florida for firing Dan Mullin. I do. You should get on Florida for firing or for hiring Billy Napier. True. But the firing Dan Mullin parked. There's a there's the former Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley long time ago said and it's actually I believe it's a Henry Kissinger quote. What must be done eventually must be done immediately. Sure. Was Dan Mullin recruiting the way he was recruiting going to international title of Florida? I don't know the answer to that question, but I don't think it's a hard no. I don't think it's a hard no. See, I do. I do think it's a hard like was Dan Mullin ever going to get them better than Kirby Smart was going to have George on a year to year basis. No, but I do think every now and then he could have he could have picked with the right quarterback. And I take you back to 2014 when he took a team to number one. They didn't stay there, but he had Dak Prescott and he developed Dak Prescott. He didn't start Dak Prescott till year four. Now is that possible in this day and age that he wouldn't have started with Tyler Russell hadn't gotten hurt. And when he started Kyle Trask, if we pay Frank's head and that's that fine, but in this day and age, can you develop a quarterback? No, but I believe I trust Dan Mullin to every now and then have a team and a roster that is going to be one of the best in the country that 2020 team might have been the third or fourth best team in the country by the end when they almost beat it. Alabama, Alabama just wrecked everybody from then on out. So if Marco Wilson doesn't throw the shoe, we don't know. We don't know what happens. But sure. But I, but this is where I was going to get on you because that was that's a very Mississippi state mentality of he's, he's doing fine, he's, he's, he's good. If your goal is to win the national title, yeah, and you don't have a coach, he's going to win the national title. You need a new coach. I think I also think they, they fired him right before Anthony Richardson's junior year. And no, no, history has shown us in the pros that maybe, maybe he wasn't going to be anything. He got more out of Anthony. He would have gotten way more out of Anthony Richardson. He would have, that was the perfect, that was the perfect quarterback for him. I think given him that one year to, he had four years of Florida. Three of them were, were, were very good. And the area was one of that. One was bad. And they used the recruiting, well, his recruiting rankings are in line with every single recruiting ranking. Florida's had to last 15 years outside the migration, outside the higher, I am, you know, as, as somebody who works for a site that does the recruiting rank, because I don't mean to bag on the product. But all recruiting classes are not created equal, all top 10 recruiting classes are not created equal, when you don't sign any five star offensive lineman ever, that's a pro. Like, and, and Napier, by the way, didn't either, Maxwell Hiller, who's committed to Florida right now, if he signs in December, will be their first five star offensive lineman since 2015. I guess, I guess my, my thinking is, you know, we, we agree on the 2020 Florida team that I, I feel like it was really good. I just feel like mullen, is mullen gonna build those curvy smart roster for me year to year, it would be a lie for me to sit here and say, yes, but no, I, I want, I want to see him get a chance in this era because it's different now, but you don't, you don't have to do what Florida wanted him to do. And he wasn't doing. I'm about to tell you something I've never told anybody, Andy, and, and, and we probably won't even put this out. I may or may not have on November 28th, 2025 after the egg bowl sent down a DM saying, please come home. I, I don't know if I did that. I don't, I don't know if I did that. I don't know if I said, he's, he's the best coach in Mississippi State history, right? Like that. Uh, yeah. It's him, it's him followed by Jack and Sheryl, but he, he, he, Dan, Dan was the best, Dan was the best. Uh, but listen, he also left a year to soon, like, we had a number one deep, whatever, don't get me in my feelings about this. Uh, I, I just feel like your Florida over the last night, since Urban Meyer, every single time they have put out a help wanted sign, they have never gotten a coach as good as Dan Mullin. And the second he had one bad season, they said, you're out of here. And they're been chasing. They've been chasing him ever since the best of the post buyer coaches. Yeah. That is true. And, and, and like, yeah, you can say, oh, well, we're going to go higher, Billy Napier, uh, and it's going to work and it didn't work. And now, well, John Sumeral is going to work surely. Well, what if it doesn't work? And all of a sudden, you're through the coaches. You go higher somebody else, that's what that's the problem, but that's the problem. That's what the money's for. If they, if it were that easy, they would have already done it. They would have gotten a Urban Meyer quality coach. Every single time they hang out, help wanted sign, they don't get a good guy. This is why you go Mike DuBose. And then you go Dennis, Francioni, yeah, and I'm sure Alabama wants to go through that again. And you go Mike Shula. And then you get your Nick Saban. Yeah. And then you get left that a little bit sometimes. And then you get Kaylyn DeVore and you might be going Mike DuBose again soon. So who knows who knows I was speaking to an Alabama group and they asked me which of the mics he was the closest to I was like, guys, you, that is mean. Yeah. The nine and three and ten and two, which was two years. Well, I would, I would at least say he's closer to DuBose because, uh, yeah, or, or he's on the SEC. He was the 99 team was very good. Yeah. Don't, don't remind me. But he's definitely not close to price. Price never even got on the sideline. The price never even made it to this. Maybe I already be actually said that. Yeah.
