The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only surviving wonder of the ancient world.
It sat as the tallest man-made structure on Earth for almost 3,800 years.
Nothing that humans built beat it until a cathedral in England in the 1300s.
It's made of roughly 23 million blocks of stone, some of them weighing as much as a loaded dump truck.
And the whole thing was supposedly stacked up over about 20 years by a civilization that didn't have iron tools.
Didn't have the wheel for heavy transport.
And didn't have a single machine with a motor on it.
But here's the thing that drives people crazy.
The base is level within about 2 centimeters across an area the size of 7 football fields.
The four sides point at true north, south, east, and west so accurately that modern surveyors with lasers only beat it by a hair.
So somebody at some point looked at all of that and says the obvious thing.
There's no way that people with copper chisels did that.
That one sentence is the doorway to everything.
For so many people, they've theorized many different things from aliens to giants, a lost ice age civilization,
a ancient nuclear power plant, the speed of light, and a hidden city that supposedly went viral last year.
And there's also a real answer, a documented one with names and payroll and an actual eyewitness diary.
This is the story of who truly built the pyramids and how.

Now, today we have a fascinating episode on the pyramids, yes, we're talking about the pyramids once again because it's one of my favorite topics
in the world and it is a dream for me to go there one day, truly, I cannot wait to stand amongst the sand and the people and these massive megaliths and really just try to take it all in, but today we're just going to be deep diving on the story of who built them, literally, like who is the historical recorded people that built it and why and how they do it, and then what are the theories around it.
Now, let me just point out real quick, I am not a historian, I'm not an Egyptologist, I am just a stand-up comedian with a Wi-Fi connection, show, uh, show.
So, I reserved. I reserved the right to be wrong, I, uh, I'm, I'm never touting myself to be a historian, I just like to have fun and deep dive into mysteries, I consider this show like the sports center of conspiracy theories, I don't believe all of them, but oh boy, I am fascinated by every single one, where do they come from, why do people believe them, and what are the threads that I can chew on and be like, well, this actually is kind of unresolved, and the pyramids, I think, is, uh, where many people start, they, I mean, I don't know if you're like me, you saw a documentary on, like, Discovery Channel when you were, like, 10 years old and you were like, wait, what, and the whole thing just blew your mind and every other theory was more interesting.
So, before we dive into the aliens, you have to understand something that no one really talks about when you talk about the pyramids, that the Egyptians were not really great at building pyramids until they got really good at it, and you can actually watch them learn.
So, this story really begins around 2670 BC with an Egyptian pharaoh named Djoser and his architect, this guy, Imhotep, who was such a genius that Egypt eventually turned him into a god.
Imhotep built the Step Pyramid at Saqqara, which is basically six stone platforms stacked on top of each other, just kind of shrinking as they go up.
But that building is a massive deal because it is the oldest large stone structure on the planet.
And before Imhotep, Egyptians buried their royalty under flat mud brick boxes that they called mastabas, but instead of using one mastaba, he basically stacked, like, six of them on top of each other and practically invented what we know today.

And you can see some images of them here on the screen, and this is specifically the one at Saqqara.
It's beautiful and interesting, but it is not as lavish as the ones that we'll later see at Giza.
The smooth-sided pyramid gets created about 70 years later by a pharaoh named Sneferu.
And this is where it gets really fun, because Sneferu actually built three pyramids, and you can see him screwing it up in real time.
His first attempt is at the Medium Pyramid.
It started as a step pyramid, and then his engineers basically tried to fill in the steps to make it smooth, and it didn't really go well.
And today, the Medium Pyramid looks like a weird three-story tower thing sticking out of like a giant mound of rubble,
because the outer layers collapsed and basically just like slid off, and it was potentially even while they were building it.
You can actually see an image here of kind of this incomplete sort of mess.
So Sneferu moves on and starts a second one at Dashur, and this is. This is called the Bent Pyramid.
And this one is actually pretty cool, because you can see the exact moment that the builders started second-guessing themselves.
It rises at a steep angle of about like 54 degrees, but a little over halfway up.
It changes to 43 degrees, giving it this kind of bent, folded-over kind of silhouette.
And most Egyptologists think that the steep angle was cracking and shifting,
so mid-build, they flattened it out to keep the whole thing from turning into another Medium Pyramid debacle.
And then. Finally, Sneferu nails it.
His third pyramid, the Red Pyramid, is built at that safer, shallow angle from the ground up,
and it becomes the first true smooth-sided pyramid.
And this is the last pyramid, the Red Pyramid, is built at that steep angle from the ground up.

Pyramid in history. And you can see an image here, you're like, oh yeah, those are the pyramids that,
those are the ones that I know about, I've seen these ones.
And a fun fact about Stofferu is that he actually moved more stone than anything.
Any pharaoh who ever lived.
Across his three pyramids, he stacked more material than his son, Khufu, would use in the Great Pyramid.
Just think about that.
So by the time we get to the Great Pyramid, around like 25, like, I mean, more specifically, 2560 BC,
this is not a civilization taking a wild guess at how to build a pyramid.
It is the fourth generation of a family business that has already failed twice,
learned the geometry the hard way, probably a lot of people died in the process,
and now they finally had the angle
the logistics, and of course, the workforce, in order to complete the task.
So who actually were the people that built these pyramids?
Not the ones who commissioned them, but like, who were the actual pyramid builders?
Well, well, for about 2000 years, the answer that everyone repeated came from a Greek historian named Herodotus,
and he visited Egypt around 450 BC, already more than 2000 years after the Great Pyramid was finished.
And Herodotus wrote that Khufu enslaved the entire nation and forced 100,000 slaves
to build it in brutal, rotating shifts.
But the crazy thing is that that story is probably wrong.
In 1990, a tourist was riding a horse and stumbled into a hidden mud brick wall near Giza,
and it led archaeologists Zahi Hawass and Marc Benioff to the site.
Mark Lettner, to something incredible, the lost city of the pyramid builders, a literal settlement
now called the Haith al-Ghurab, and it is sitting just south of the Sphinx. And what they dug up
looked nothing like a slave camp. They found industrial bakeries cranking out thousands of
loaves of bread and a fish processing operation and barracks and dormitories that could rotate
crews in and outs. And they even had a brewery that made beer, which another interesting detail,
we actually still have the recipe for ancient Egyptian beer. And based on the animal bones,
the workers were likely eating cattle and sheep and goats. Zahi Hawass estimates they were
slaughtering roughly 11 cows and 33 goats a day to feed around 10,000 workers prime meat. Now,
of course, this comes from Zahi Hawass, who is very controversial in the Egyptology world.
Just for the sake of this part of the episode, I'm just going to just take his word for it.
Now, that is actually a better diet than most ordinary Egyptians had at the time. So
the slave camp was built in the Sphinx. And it was built in the Sphinx. And the slave question actually starts to seem a little bit less plausible. You can actually
see an image here that Rafni pulled up of potentially what these kind of slave quarters
look like. And sure, maybe it wasn't the best conditions, but, you know, even by the standards
of, you know, ancient Egypt at the time, it wasn't that bad. And then there's a part that actually
really affects this whole slave theory. They found a worker cemetery right next to the pyramids.
The skeletons show healed broken bones, which potentially means that when someone got hurt,
they were treated and nursed.
Over months and not just forgotten about and killed. Some skulls even show signs of brain
surgery and amputations that the person survived. And these workers were buried with bread and beer
for the afterlife in tombs positioned in the shadow of the very monuments that they potentially
built. As Hawass puts it, the slaves don't build themselves tombs for eternity next to the king.
Only people that were very proud of the work would do that. And it seems like the workers
were very proud. They organized themselves into crews and gangs. And they even built a
graffitti with their team names painted inside the monuments. Names like the Friends of Khufu and
my personal favorite, the Drunkards of Menkaure. These were paid, fed and honored Egyptian laborers.
Most of them were probably farmers doing seasonal work for the state for a few months because the
Nile would flood their fields and there was nothing for them to farm during the flood season.
But we don't just have their bones. We actually have one guy's journal.
Yeah. In 2013, a French team led by this dude, Pierre Talay, was digging,
at a Red Sea port called Wadi al-Jarf. And inside a cave, they found the oldest inscribed papyri ever
discovered in Egypt. And these, you know, basically this pile of, you know, pages he found belonged to
a middle management inspector named Merer, who led a crew of about 200 men. And Merer's diary is
dated to the 26th and the 27th years of Khufu's reign, which means it was written while the Great
War was in effect. And what's interesting is that it reads less like a diary and more just like,
like accounting paperwork. So day by day, Merer records his team rowing boats loaded with like
giant blocks of white limestone from the quarries at Tora up these specifically dug canals straight
to the Giza construction site. And that white Tora limestone was the smooth outer casing,
the part that made the pyramid shiny in its early years. And you can actually see an image of what
these papyri look like. And I don't know how to read Egyptian hieroglyphs, but that's what I'm
That's apparently what it says. So we have an actual eyewitness account written by a man who
basically helped build the Great Pyramid, telling us exactly how they moved the stone,
not exactly an alien moving stones with UFOs, which is unfortunately the way more interesting
answer. So we sort of know who built the pyramids. The tougher question is how do you lift
a two and a half ton block 480 feet in the air with no machines? And the real answer to that,
in my opinion, is that we don't really know. The Egyptian records show that,
you know, they had people and that they fed them and what they shipped, but they never left like
here's how we actually stacked it kind of manual. But here's what we do know. The Egyptians drag
stones on these wooden sledges. There's actually a famous painting at the tomb of a nobleman
named Jehudi Hotep showing a massive statue being hauled on a sledge with a man standing at the front
pouring water onto the sand. And for years, people thought that the water was just like a
religious ritual to purify something. But then in 2014,
physicists at the University of Amsterdam actually tested it, which seems crazy. It took him that long,
but that's when it happened. And it turns out wetting the sand to exactly the right dampness
will actually make it firm. And it stops the sledge from basically plowing a pile in front
of it. And it cuts the pulling force roughly in half. So that ritual in the painting was
actually a documented physics hack that the Egyptians figured out 4000 years before a lab
confirmed it. However, getting the blocks up the pyramid is of course where all the controversy
starts.
But first, we have the ramp theory, basically like an enormous ramp running up one side of the
pyramid. And it's pretty simple. But for the workers to actually push stones up and reach
the top, it would need to be nearly a mile long and contain more material than the pyramid itself.
And unfortunately, right now, there's no trace of one that size. And then of course,
you have the spiraling external ramp. This is a ramp that corkscrews up around the outside,
and this solves the mile long ramp problem. But the accuracy you'd have to be able to make a stable
corkscrew style ramp that can withstand blocks that weigh tons is really, really incredible.
And of course, the architecture and the you know, I guess the the physics know how that they had was
incredible in its own right, but it's still kind of unlikely. And then there's one that people love.
This is the internal ramp theory. So the French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin spent over 20 years
arguing that Egyptians built a sort of like, external ramp for the bottom third, and then they
ran an external ramp for the bottom third. And then they ran an external ramp for the bottom third.
A hidden ramp corkscrewing up inside the pyramid for the rest, recycling the outer ramp stone as
they went, which would explain why no giant ramp was ever found. There's even a notch about 270
feet up the northeast corner that could have been one of the turning stations and a French survey
team once watched a desert fox climb into a hole near that notch as if there's potentially an open
passage there. So starting in 2015, a project called Scan Pyramid used cosmic ray muons,
to x ray the Great Pyramid without touching it. These are essentially like subatomic particles
that come down from space and pass through solid rock. It's pretty crazy tech, but what they found

Now let's get back to the show.
They started finding things that nobody knew was there,
like a corridor behind the North Face,
a huge unexplained void that they call the Big Void,
that is the length of a passenger jet sitting above the Grand Gallery.
No one has actually been inside the Big Void yet,
but a recent engineering paper in 2025 argues that those hidden spaces
are the smoking gun for a construction machine,
and that the Grand Gallery and these voids basically worked
as a counterweight and pulley system,
using gravity to haul the heaviest blocks up while another block slid down.
So the mainstream story isn't like, hey, we have no idea.
It's that every single year new evidence of something shows up,
which is exactly why there are so many other theories.
And the other reason that this argument never dies about who built the pyramids
isn't because, like, the ramps,
or, like, the likelihood of building something.
It is the precision of the pyramids.
I mean, they are so precise.
This is an image that Rafny actually pulled up of the Big Void
that shows the inside of the Scanned Pyramid,
and there's even the other void that you can see at the North Face Corridor.
And once you look at it, you're like, whoa,
there's just, like, a giant pocket on the inside?
Well, that may have been where this counter pulley situation
was actually lifting up stones while dropping stones down.
But now, the precision of these pyramids is, maybe,
the favorite part.
Because the Great Pyramid's sides align to true geographic north.
Not the magnetic north, but, like, the true north,
with an error of about three and a half arc minutes,
which is roughly a fifteenth of a degree.
And they did that with no compass and no GPS,
just simply by looking at the stars.
And then, of course, the casing stones were fitted so tightly
that the joints between them average about half a millimeter.
Like, you can't even slide a piece of paper into the seam of the joints
on a stone that's. that is literally the size of a car.
And then, of course, there's the math.
The pyramids' proportions encode pi.
Like, the number pi.
Like, if you take the perimeter of the base
and you divide it by the height,
you get very close to two times pi.
And the ratio of the slant face to half the base
lands right around phi, the golden ratio.
The very same 1.618 that shows up in seashells and flower petals.
Now, mainstream mathematicians have a,
a very simple answer for this.
They basically say the Egyptians measured slopes
using a system called "Sekhed."
This is basically rise over run in hand width.
So, you know, you pick a nice, round Sekhed,
you build the pyramid,
and pi and phi kind of fall out of the geometry automatically.
So you don't need some type of deep cosmic knowledge required.
It's just based off of their, you know, very astute
and very interesting measurement system
that they've been using forever.
But then you hit one coincidence that,
even skeptics will admit, is very eerie.
And that is the speed of light.
So, this is awesome.
The speed of light in a vacuum is 299,792,458 meters per second.
And one latitude line that crosses the Great Pyramid
is 29.9792458 degrees north.
The very same digits, the very same order.
Now, to be fair, this is where believers make their strongest
point.
They say, "Hey, math is universal."
The speed of light is not just some random number.
It's one of the most fundamental constants in the entire universe.
So if you're trying to leave a message for someone thousands of years in the future,
or even somewhere else in the galaxy, encoding a universal constant could actually make sense.
But here's the thing.
The speed of light may be universal, but this whole, like, you know, 299,792,458 meters
per seconds is not.
That exact number depends on meters and seconds and decimal places.

up for decades by authors like Graham Hamish,
Hancock, and even former guest of the show, Randall Carlson. And this claim is that a
sophisticated Ice Age civilization existed more than 12,000 years ago. It got wiped out in a
global cataclysm called the Younger Dryas Impact and passed its knowledge to survivors who later
settled in Egypt. His big piece of physical evidence comes from geologist Robert Schock,
who studied the weathering on the Great Sphinx. Now, Schock argued that deep vertical grooves in
the Sphinx enclosure were carved by heavy rainfall. And it's really interesting that
he brings that up because Egypt hasn't had that kind of climate since long before the pharaohs,
which would make the Sphinx thousands of years older than the textbooks say.
Now, of course, mainstream geologists will push back on this very hard, arguing that
erosion come from other processes like salt crystallization and wind erosion and doesn't
require pushing the date back. But the debate feeds directly into one of the oldest legends of all,
and that is the Hall of Records. In the 1930s, the psychic Edgar Cayce claimed that a hidden chamber
was buried near the Sphinx, a secret archive containing the complete history of a lost
civilization. And according to Cayce, this chamber held the story of Atlantis, ancient migrations,
forgotten technologies, and the true origins of human civilization. Not just treasure,
not just a tomb, a library from a world that supposedly existed before our own,
and the location of the Sphinx. And that's what we're going to talk about in this episode.
Location is really important here, because Cayce said it was hidden somewhere near the
Sphinx, often described as being beneath or between the paws of the Sphinx, waiting for
the right time to be discovered. So once researchers started arguing that the Sphinx
might be older than Egyptologists believe, the Hall of Records legend suddenly felt a lot less
like a random prophecy and more like a missing piece of the same puzzle. Which brings us up to
last year and the reason that this topic exploded all over again. And that's because in March 2025,
Italian researchers Corrado Malanga and Filippo Biondi held a press conference and announced
that they were using a technique called Synthetic Aperture Radar Doppler Tomography. And they claimed
to have scanned deep beneath the Khafre Pyramid and found a vast underground city. Eight enormous
vertical shafts wrapped in spiral staircases plunging more than 2,000 feet down into the earth
connected to giant cube-shaped chambers. And the stuff went super viral and got picked up by
everyone who was watching. And I think that's why we're here today. And I think that's why we're
one that's interested in the stuff from Joe Rogan to Piers Morgan just within a couple days. And then
of course, the skeptical scientists showed up. First, the claims were announced at a press
conference, not in a peer-reviewed paper. Second, the satellite radar technology, people will say,
can't see that deep. So this kind of SAR that they used reliably penetrates only about two meters into
the ground under good conditions. So claiming CRISP's detail two kilometers down is, according
to radar experts, simple.
Not something that this technology can do. Third, one of the most shared cross-section images of the
underground city was run through an AI detection tool, and it came back as 99% likely AI generated.
And then Zahi Hawass, the same man who found the real worker village, he obviously came out and
said the whole thing was baseless, noting Egypt never even granted them a permit to scan Khafre.
Although, again, you got to kind of take things that Zahi Hawass says with a little bit of a grain
of salt.
Oh, and one more detail that's worth knowing. Malanga's main background isn't archaeology. It is
UFO and alien abduction research. So it certainly calls into question the validity of chronic

Why wait? This claim. So let's pull this all the way back and answer the questions both in the mainstream,
and then of course, in the alternative explanations. So who really built the pyramids? Well,
the evidence points overwhelmingly to Egyptians, not to slaves. And it seems like they were paid
and fed, and they were honored laborers working for a civilization that spent four generations
and two collapsed pyramids trying to figure out how to do it. It seems like we know their diet.
We know like their different team names. We know their broken bones and how they healed. And we
even know a dude named Merer who wrote all this down in his own handwriting and the boats that
he rode to deliver the stone. But the how is still a massive question. We can't point at one ramp and
say, that's the one, that's how they did it. And that missing piece is exactly where all of these
other theories come in. We can't point at one ramp and say, that's the one,
we always need to go back to. The alien theory needs the Egyptians to be primitive. And the
harder we dig, they don't actually seem that primitive. Not because a spaceship showed up,
but because a room full of humans with copper rope water and hundreds of years of practice and
just an unwavering desire to build something can potentially still do it and humbles us to
this modern day. The pyramids don't really need to be a machine to be miraculous. I mean,
perhaps they are, but a pile of stone aligned with the stars that has outlasted every,
every empire, even the ones that have tried to destroy it. I mean, that's miraculous in and of
itself. And it was potentially built by people whose names we are only now 4,500 years later,
finally starting to read. And that my friends is a brief history on who really built the pyramids.
Now, this is kind of always been like my position with the pyramid stuff. It's like,
I love the alien stuff. I love the, the giant stuff. It's like super fun and interesting,
but it's just, it's a little hard for me to get fully on. It's like, all right, well, we've got
to see where the giant bones are. You know what I mean? All right. We got to see where like the
alien stuff is like, oh, that's how, all right. Like if aliens came down, like they would build
a pyramid. Like I don't make, I don't know. I'm just like, it's not, it doesn't entice me super,
super, uh, it's not, it's not the most enticing thing, I guess, but then how they actually did
it. Like if humans really did it, I mean, which is kind of my assumption, how, and that is the
part that is always, always enticed me is like, okay, I think of, you know, a complex levy or a
complex pulley system using the voids inside the pyramid, plus some ramps to do the main stuff.
That's fascinating. And then the fact that the pyramids kind of like degrade over time,
as far as their complexity and like the technology and the fact that these empires kind of get less
sophisticated as time goes on, also a fascinating detail. I think the same thing could be found in
Rome that like the Roman empire was building all this amazing stuff. And then they kind of got like
less sophisticated as time goes on, like their roads start becoming worse. And then you have
like these really advanced societies that then kind of degrade. And then, you know,
fall apart and then restart. That part is the thing that always gets me going. But I don't know,
as far as like who I'm like, probably Egyptians or proto Egyptians or whoever they are. But then
pushing back on the mainstream, there's a lot of stuff that they just don't give credence for. So
like, you know, these immaculate vases, you know, like guys like, like Caraway and Adam Young point
out like these perfectly done vases, Uncharted X does all sorts of amazing stuff. Ben Van Kirkwick
about these amazing technological achievements.
And I don't think we have to go like, oh, these are obviously aliens. But the fact that Egyptologists
kind of sometimes brush this stuff away, and they go, Oh, no, it was done this way. It's like,
hey, just say you don't know, you know, like, we don't, the fact that there's so much tension and
immediate sort of dismissal of these amazing technological achievements is the thing that
ultimately leaves the room for all these other wild theories. It's like if they were just up front,
and they were like, hey, we don't really know. And we're trying our best to figure it out. And
what you found here is actually,
fascinating and really impressive. And maybe we should take another look at this. I think that
the honest, good faith sort of humility would be a lot more appreciated by people. And I think
oftentimes would lead people to, you know, not jumping down, you know, some of the more absurd
theories. Now the power plant theory. I love that one. I have to actually read that book. I'm going
to read Dunn's book and try to figure out what's going on with that. Maybe we do a whole episode
just on that, because that is so fascinating. But I don't know. What do you think, Rafni? Is
there anything that you learned that you didn't know before?
You know, I've been thinking about if they survived the Great Flood.
Oh, I mean, well, I guess it depends. In the Bible says the Great Flood was regional. So it says the
known world. But it's possible. I mean, what is the, what's the verdict? I'm trying to think of
the timeline here. I don't even know when Noah would have been really. But why? Did you find
anything online?
I mean, apparently, they examined the Bible chronologically, and the pyramids are
supposed to be built before the flood, like several hundred years.
So you got to see, dude, maybe there might be some water erosion. I mean, the known world,
I mean, Egypt was probably the known world at that time. So if there's a giant flood that cuts
through, we did a whole episode on all the floods and all the flood myths and why every culture has

to recreate this to this level, it's pretty fascinating, but I'm curious, what do you guys
