When God Says No - Madi Fields

Hi guys, I'm Maddie Cookie, so I know my Las Vegas people don't like shouting, so we're going to try something different. We're my West Side people. Okay, one more try, okay? Give me some energy. I'll take it. So today, I want to talk to you guys about something that I think is kind of important, okay? But first, you've got to get some background on me. I am, if you guys know this like analogy or whatever, I'm the daughter of a bald father. He's bald. So I don't like the word no. He doesn't never tells me no. And then to add on to that, I'm the only daughter. So again, I don't get that word. And let's just go even further, I'm the youngest of two older brothers. There's no other girls that's just me. So this word no is something that I'm like, I don't hear that, I don't like it. But my heavenly father, he loves to say it to me, he's like, he's like Madison, you're not doing that today. Go sit down. And I'm like, you know, it's my dad then, and he's going to say yes. Because what are you talking about, you know? And that's something that he's been working on me a lot lately. And one analogy I thought about, to tell you guys, I thought this was really funny. Have you guys ever seen the movie Monster House? Yes. Okay. So these kids, they want to go in this house. They're like, this seems like so much fun. And this house eats people. Guys, if you haven't seen it, spoiler alert was a year ago, but spoiler, this house eats people. Like, don't go inside, it's going to, you're done for, you know? And these kids are like, I'm going, no one can stop me. Everybody's like, no, no, they're like, I'm going to do it. And then they have this whole movie of them trying to survive because they didn't listen. That's me. I'm like, God, I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm running there. And I'm like, God help me. No way. I can't do it. Yeah. That's definitely me every single time. He also teaches me about waiting, not a patient person. Ask any of my friends. If you tell me to wait, I'm going to ask you a thousand more times. For my birthday, they were like, not even you have surprises for you, but you have to wait. I went through their cars. I was like, wait, I know where your trunk is. I know what your car looks like. I opened that thing up and I was like, this isn't pink, this isn't pink, this isn't mine. No. Like, my roommate, Emma, I know where you live. We share a closet. I went through her closet because why am I waiting? And they hit them so well. Let's start there. Where's Nikki at? Nikki Cooper. She gave them an extra room and was like, guys, I didn't hear her. She's going to find it. Like, because I don't wait, I'm not a patient person at all. So God has been teaching me the patience so much, and I have two verses for you guys. It was really loud. The first one is Proverbs 169, and it says, "A person's heart may plan his way, but the Lord determines his steps." And that's been just running through my mind because I'm like, God, I have these plans. I have like this set, this is what I want to do, and you keep saying no, you're telling me to wait, or you push me back, and I'm so confused. And I make these plans, and I'm like, no, this is what? This is perfect. I know exactly where I need to go. But God has so much better. And like, think about it like this, right? If you have this plan, you're thinking your head, think about how small your brain is. Like, wait, you guys are all smart. Your brains aren't small. You guys are smart, I swear. Just think about how small our minds are compared to God. I'm going to get in this college, and then I'm going to get degree, and I'm going to buy a little house with my little family, and it's going to be great. And God's like, no, okay, I'm going to get you a mansion. Like, he's, that's how big he's thinking. So if you're so excited about this, just think about how much more excited you'll be with that. Like, God has so much more, but you just have to be patient. Like, and I also think about this one thing. I love it. It's my favorite analogy. Let's think about Thanksgiving. I'm not a big Thanksgiving fan if you were in my speech class first semester. You heard my speech. It's my least favorite holiday. But the food, hear me out. The food is good. My mom can cook, okay? You've never met Mama Fields, but she can cook. And her turkey, she starts it. She starts it the night before. Okay, she doesn't say, oh, like day of turkey, we're going to put in the microwave. Imagine how much that would suck if my mom put a turkey in the microwave. Just think about it. We would never cook all the way through. Okay, so she's cooking that the night before and I'm unpatient. Actually, we'll get to another story about me being unpatient. Then she's making the mac and cheese. Everything's made the night before, and it's always so good. Got the green beans, and the cornbread, and all the pies, all the night before. And then my favorite thing is the cranberry sauce. And when I was younger, I was like, I'm not going to wait. And this is, again, I'm sorry, Lord, I wasn't patient, I didn't listen. My mom bought, we had a big family. She bought three cans of cranberry sauce, and I was like, those are going to be mine. So everybody goes to sleep, the food's all cookin'. I wake up. I'm not asleep. I'm like, Santa, I go through the night. So I'm going through the kitchen, and I eat all the cranberry sauce, all of it, with nothing, actually. I don't know why I like it so much. I was a kid. I don't know why I ate it all. My face is all red from this sauce. My face is all red from this sauce, and I go back to bed. My mom wakes up, she's mad, because all the foods ready except the cranberry sauce, and you know the stores are closed. So now she has to make it from scratch, so she's mad, okay. She's making a new plan, right? She goes down the line, she lines us all up, mind you, my family's tall. My dad's six, six, my brother's six, so we're all in this line, I'm like, they did it. She goes on the line, who did this? Madison. What are you talking about? Madison's face is red. She goes to my brother. Who did it? Mom, Madison, what are you, who did it? Madison. And I look at her, mom, don't believe them, I had a little list, I was like, mama, don't believe them, it was dad. I know my hands are red, I just get nervous, mom, it was dad, and she gets really mad at me, and then she takes away the rest of my dinner, she was like, you're gonna have a TV dinner. The first thing she's giving ever, oh my gosh, I was like, everyone else gets to enjoy this great turkey that they all were patient for, and they get this great dinner, and I'm sitting here, the TV dinner, I'm like, is that good? Yeah, I bet it is, like I'm mad because I wasn't patient. So I just have to learn, and like, that's what I brought it to you guys, when God says no, take it as a no, back away, he has so much more. And God says, wait, take it as a wait, back away, because he's gonna make a great Thanksgiving dinner. I swear he will, I promise.
