What to Make of Week 0 + A Look At Week 1's Best Games | The BFW Show 8.31.26
64m 31s
Brandon Walker and Blummin reflect on the opening week of college football, calling it a disappointment due to weak matchups and underwhelming performances. The standout game is Memphis vs. UNLV, which showcases strong team execution and defensive grit, reinforcing the viability of mid-tier programs despite the transfer portal and NIL changes. Florida State is heavily criticized for its poor start under head coach Mike Norville, with Walker arguing that inaction leads to long-term decline. TCU’s disastrous performance in the rain is blamed on poor coaching and execution, while Virginia emerges as a top-20 team with dominant play. The hosts also take issue with the SEC’s threatened actions against LSU, calling it legally and practically implausible. A top 10 draft of Week One games highlights Ole Miss vs. Louisville, Clemson, UCLA vs. Cal, Oregon vs. Boise State, and Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame as the most compelling matchups. The episode concludes with a strong critique of neutral-site games, advocating for more home-based, high-energy matchups to increase excitement and authenticity. The discussion underscores a broader concern: the current college football landscape is marked by inconsistent quality, with Week One setting a weak tone for a potentially promising season.

So week zero has happened and this is going to be irregular. But I guess this is the first of our three episodes or three episodes of week shows normally. Our Monday show will be a transition from what we just saw to what we will see next week. That's what it will be tonight, but we don't have the Saturday reaction show that we normally will have a Saturday reaction show to handle some of the early reactions. And then we'll transition to Monday and Thursday will be a little bit more of a deep dive and then you'll have interviews stuck on Thursday and everything too. Every interview we get, we're just going to put them on Thursdays. So Monday is always going to be about me and Blummin, um, taking what we learned, pushing it forward and going from there. And that's what we'll do tonight because we have week zero. We have your voice mails. We have a couple of our you serious is to put out the teams. And then we have, um, at the end of the show, me and Blummin are going to do a week one college football games draft. Why are we going to do this to make a point? And the point is week one is terrible. Now it's college football, so it's going to be great and we're going to love it. But week two is loaded with Michigan, Oklahoma with, uh, Ohio State, Texas, I believe Oklahoma State or like on and on and on. You've got great games in week two week one for whatever reason this year, kind of a dud for the match up. So we're going to draft 10 week one games and let's see how bad it is by the time we get to nine or 10. Um, so anyway, hey, Blummin. Hey, Brandon can't wait to talk ball with you today. You have 30 seconds and I mean 30 seconds. To talk about your stupid ass UCLA news, it just dropped 30 seconds. The clock starts now thumbs up. Come and be more excited. Don't need 30 seconds. We're serious about our business now as it was pointed out in the articles that I've dropped. They are in the financial deficit and the path forward is not sustainable. Thank you for all your incompetence, Martin Jarman. I am once again vindicated. You were a doofus, a boso terrible at your job. I, I wish you and your family the best time to get you out of there. Time to start being real serious. You're a bad guy. Lookie, can you bring up Ross Dellinger's tweet from earlier today? I didn't, I didn't tell you to do this, but Dellinger had a tweet. We'll do a little bit of news before we get to everything that I want to say about week zero. Um, LSU of course is doing the thing where they're trying to get these players eligible in this. We got the five to play five, but it passed after these guys is already in the NFL draft. And then they got cut and now they want to go back. But SEC and big 10's not going to let him so they had to go get a lawyer and they had to go get a judge and yada yada. Yada the fight goes on. And this is the toughest language I've heard so far. Coach, where says blood sucks. Well, then don't fucking watch. Coach, where take your punk ass on somewhere, blood's on the show. Um, Ross Dellinger says SEC school executives are exploring measures to address LSU's plans to add former pro players, including boycott and competition, sanctioning the school with probation or expulsion. And filing a federal legal challenge. Now, there's never going to be a world where the SEC expels LSU from the conference. However, I don't think I've ever heard of an SEC or a conference threatening to expel one of those teams. I've never heard of of that even coming up in the lexicon saying, Hey, by the way, if you don't act right. Am I still alone, by the way? Am I good? Yeah, you're good. Yeah, my, my camera overwhelmed the system here and was giving me a, give me a question if I wanted to buy another ad blocker for the camera. I don't at all. Anyway, um, so LSU is in a point where the SEC is blustering and they're, they're pumping their chest out and they're saying, you better not or we're going to get you out. Now, this is the toughest language I have heard so far. And I do wonder if this is the end of the road. If this is where the SEC and finally tells LSU, fucking don't do it. Don't fucking do it or we're going to really go crazy. Um, I don't know how LSU responds to this because legally, I'm not sure how the SEC could pull that off. Um, but I guess it's not the SEC and Greg Thank you. The saying is the other institutions and the other schools that are finally just stopping their feet and saying, stop fucking around down there. Let's play ball. Uh, what'd you make of it, Liam? I kind, I kind of love it. I love putting the foot down. I love putting some real meaning behind the words and not just blank statements that have, not that they have no substance behind it. I like this move. I, I, I don't want to see how is you in the sunbelt or the conference USA one day. So you better listen to your peers and get real serious about this or else you're gone and kicked in the bud. That's no fun. The SEC trying to kick LSU out for trying to play a couple of extra players. Uh, would be the longest lawsuit in the history of organized sports. It would drag on for 15 to 20 years. It would be the longest ordeal you have ever seen. And hopefully I, I hope we get to the point where LSU decides it's not worth it. These players were adding are not that big of a deal to our overall plans. I will say the more I've thought about it, these players, these players, if they started to call us now and have five years to play five, right? And the announcement of five years to play five happened after they had already declared for the draft. Is it that big of a sin that they want to get back in and take their fifth year when other players going forward will? That's a question for you, Blumman. Oh, I, I, I, well, do you thought that was rhetorical? Yeah, a bit. Yeah, like things happen, timelines happen, everything. That's the way of the road. Sorry, you're, you've already tried to play. I mean, we got the kid Piber and who led the Buccaneers and sacks and the preseason. You're good enough at that level to at least maybe get a roster spot. Not maybe it's not Tampa Bay. Maybe it's somewhere else. But again, go play in the UFO, go play in the CFL. There are plenty of opportunities to carve your own path and make some money along the way. Going back to college will never compute in my brain after you've already worn an NFL jersey that your parents now own. Yeah, tough. Teddy said the kitty. Get a job. I like that. Here we go. So we've got, we got my week zero thoughts and I'm going to go fast. I have seven thoughts. Blumman, when I get to the end of my seven thoughts, if you would like to add anything or I might just give you a little bit. I wouldn't say rapid reaction. Luke, it's just a reaction at this point. The rapid reactions will be on Saturday night week zero. The number one thing that stood out to me was on a day we had Florida state playing. And on a day we had Virginia playing in C state of conference game. On the day we had TCU and UNC two power four teams playing the most impressive operation, the most impressive matchup, the best looking two teams were Memphis and UNLV. And I think that says a lot about where we are in cost. Well, I think it's very good thing that in this world of the transfer portal in NIL, we all have sounded the alarm bells. Oh, this will kill the little teams. This will kill the group of six. This will they'll always get picked over and yet. Outside of Virginia and the way they really looked, the two best teams I saw were Memphis and UNLV. Memphis and UNLV was a fantastic football game, a fantastic scene. They had Elvis coming out, you had good quarterback play from Memphis. You had good quarterback play, Jackson Arnold, the defense for Memphis just got better and better and better as the game went on. You saw athletes all over the field like if this is the, if this is what we see.
out of the group of six because of NIL and transfer portal. I think we're in a good spot. I thought that was really, really, really good. Squallas says you and LV did not look good. What? I can't help you guys be smarter. If you didn't watch that game and say these are two good teams playing, then I can't help you. Go watch Wake Up Mency. Now take your stupid ass over there because this was, these were two good teams. And this was a great game. I thought it was a fantastic week zero game. The best week zero game I can remember in recent years and Memphis comes out of there winning it. They'll beat the crap out of Arkansas State this week. And then they'll go to Boise State in a couple of weeks. What did you think, what do you think about the whole of, not just Memphis's performance, not even LV, but the whole of that game, Flutton? The whole of that game is it was a spectacle where both teams understood in a week's zero game that they needed to show up. There was no room to be rusty. Wow, you and LV was a bit. I'll get into that. But both of them knew that that was, and impromptu kind of playoff playing game that could have been at the end of the year. You and LV, to me, the issue was it was too much of the past where they're shooting themselves in the foot with constant mistakes. Their offensive line got absolutely ravaged in the second half. I really don't understand why they stopped getting Jay and Thomas the ball. They abandoned the run game. Poor Jackson Arnold was on his back every other play in the late third and fourth quarter. But I mean, that was a great college football game from start to finish. Was it perfect? No, is college football perfect? No. Charles Huff will be at a power four school next year, probably an SEC one. I think he has a legit dude in the coaching ranks. He kind of won a lot of fans at the end when they asked him, what'd you make of that? And he said, we don't do ice cream here. We don't do fun things. We get you ready for ball. We want guys who are ready for ball. Charles Huff will be a big time coach for ball coach next year. He's a big time coach for ball coach now. He's just on his way up. And Memphis has turned into a program. They're so good at getting talent. And they're so good at showcasing talent. It doesn't really matter who their coach is. They just give a guy an opportunity to come in, build a roster, and he does it. And then he moves on to the next place. But Charles Huff is a dude. I still think Dan Mullins probably got a power four job next year too. So there's that. The one last guy I want to shout out from that game, Marcus Stokes, I wish going back a couple of years ago. And let me make sure, Blutman, because you've got your air to the grindstone a little bit better than me. Football season is finally upon us, which means it's game on with Ryobi, with over 400 cordless solutions, including speakers, fans, and lights for the tailgate, leaf blowers, and string trimmers for yard maintenance, stick vacuums, and spot cleaners for cleaning up after the party, and drills, sols, and more for your DIY projects. With his crime, that he was on a video, and he wrapped lyrics to a song, and kept going when he should have stopped, was that his crime? The old Ben Mance. He got Ben Mance, right? And I really, I don't know when it happened. I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention enough to have caught that over my radar. I wish more media people, including myself, would have stood up and said, we're really going to throw this kid's career away, because he made an honest stupid mistake. Like we've seen guys make that mistake. It's a damn mistake. Charles Huff and Memphis welcoming him in, after the stop at West Florida, and he is on the way to putting his career back together. He's having the career he was going to have to begin with. He's a very good quarterback. I thought it was very tough the other day, exactly what Memphis needs. Shout out to him. Shout out to that player right there. Number three, I thought Virginia was the best individual team that we saw. I really kind of regret last week when I said, Virginia's underrated, people are overlooking them, not going harder in the paint because they look so impressive. Now, NC State's got their own issues. CJ Bailey, we're still waiting on the breakout. They have no weapons, nothing around him. They lost every good player to transfer seemingly. And he just isn't becoming that guy at NC State. That being said, put them on the back burner. They walked into Virginia. Virginia just knocked them around the yard for three and a half, four quarters. Just knocked them all around, passed the ball 11 times, ran the ball down their throat. Bo Pregula was fantastic. Virginia is a top 20 team in this country. They're not a top 25 team. They're a top 20 team in this country. I think they are very, very, very, very good. Number three, Florida State. I didn't watch Florida State Live. I was out to dinner with my family. I caught up and caught the Florida State replay yesterday afternoon when I got home from vacation. And I knew what the sequence of the game. I knew that it was 10, 7 for a while. I knew going in, but it was still so underwhelming. And I just, in this day and age, I don't know how they started another season with Mike Norville as the coach. I don't know how they started another season with him on the sideline after getting to a point where you could very reasonably fire him. And people will say, well, they can't afford to fire him. In this day and age, you can't afford not to fire him. If you've got a coach that's holding you back and you can't compete at this level right now, your Florida State, you should be a top 10 to 15 name in the sport every single year. You can't afford not to make a bold move. And the fact they didn't make a bold move is so embarrassing to me. It's so awful. Does Florida State depress you like it depresses me, Liam Blutman? Yeah, of course, they're a sad program to watch. That game should have been 17, 14, I believe, if they didn't drop the touchdown on the half-back pass. I will never, I ran to the bout this last year when we were fighting with T-Bob. God bless T-Bob. We were fine about him, but the LSU and the Brian Kelly and the Biod and the money and all of a sudden, LSU's rich all of a sudden has all the money. You can find the money. Money is endless. The money's there, guys. The money will always be there. Yes. Setting your program back by not making, by not cutting what needs to be cut will never work. Sure, maybe you'll want to paint Norvell his mind now. Well, this year's gone, next year's gone, the year after that could be gone. The longer you wait, the longer away you are from relevancy. And at some point, you truly get into a rut. The job becomes even more attractive. You're just saying yourself up for failure down the road. I don't get, it's malpractice. I went into the season with them. It looked like same old Florida State. What did they do? Number five, wait, sorry, sorry, one last thought. He went into a maker break season with Ashton Daniels as his QB1. And that is Florida State. That's the man you want to lead your program. When I was growing up in the 80s, the 90s and 2004 state was cutthroat about their program. They were going out and getting dudes and they were just pushing everybody around and they were just unbelievable. And then they had the resurgence with Jimbo in 2013. And then they had the year a couple years ago. But now, how have they descended into me? Mediocrity so fast, it's so depressing. And I don't want to see Florida State like this. Florida State is a team that I want to see good. I don't generally subscribe to the theory, oh, Coswell Wall's better when this team is good. Coswell's fine regardless, but I like seeing Florida State good. I like seeing Miami good. I like seeing those Florida teams really good. And when I saw Saturday night was so goddamn depressing. All right, number five, USC fans. I don't know if you've seen this guy from Outkick that I was like, this, you know, I had USC or the West Coast football as losers of the week 'cause of the crowd at USC. And that's fine. It's been hammered over and over and over. It's an embarrassing crowd. But this, this Outkick guy was like, dude, it was hot. You would never, I'll pay you money to go to a hot game. You would never do it. Like, I get sicker than anybody in the world in the hot weather. I've been to more hot games and fucking Starkville, Mississippi. I've seen 'em play Memphis in 102 degree weather. I've seen 'em play in freezing, spitting rain. Like, it's college football. If I had to train, fucking go watch 'em. But USC fans, it's not that the rest of the country is laughing at you. It's not that we're poking fun of you. And I know you get defensive about this crowd. It's the fact that it just fucking sucks. You're a top 10, 15 brand in this country. The fight on, the Trojan, everything. We all grew up with a dominant USC in the Coliseum fall. And that should be the capital of the West Coast football. The fact that you've got a top 15 team now and you don't act like you can be the capital of West Coast football. Then you act like an also ran. And you act like it's beneath you to go to a college football game. It just sucks. It sucks. 'Cause the rest of us want to look out at USC and say, wow, look at that, that's awesome. But you won't do it. You won't support 'em because it's 92 fucking degrees. Guess what it's gonna be in fucking Texas and Louisiana and Alabama and Mississippi and Georgia and everywhere this weekend. And there'll be a full capacity and every single one of 'em. And they don't have as good a team as you got. It sucks. Number six, that's enough Ireland. I'm done with Ireland. If they're not gonna turn off the rain button, it was cute one year. I've seen enough sideline reporters learning how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness. I don't give a fuck anymore. It's ugly football, it's terrible football. It ruins one team season. Whoever loses it, it ruins their season. TCU, I don't envy them right now. North Carolina, I will say, you know, I was, I kinda liked the embellish headcap of that game. I kinda liked him signaling first down. The past rush is nasty. I am re-evaluating how I feel about North Carolina. Offense has a ways to go, but man, at defense in that past rush, we're great. But TCU, gross. Gross.
Number seven, my last take on week zero and then I'll open it up to Bloodman to see if he has to take. The other day in the TCU North Carolina game, a running back out of first down, he stood up, pointed towards the end zone, rubbed his nose and pointed first down. The ref through a 15 yard penalty, I called it the worst call I've ever seen here in week one. It's the worst call of the season in week one. To which I had the rules committee on Twitter, they're like, "Well, actually, they wrote of the rules this year, you can't do that, so that's a good call. That's a really good call." Then rewrite the fucking rule. I don't know what piece of shit decided if he rubs his nose and points that way. We're going to penalize him 15 years. Let me go back with an eraser, go the rule book, and scratch that shit out. That's ridiculous. That is absolutely ridiculous, especially for a damn ref crew who missed four spots in the final five spots of the game. They were missing spots all day, but they saw this. Fuck. How you doing, am I good? Yeah, I'm actually doing pretty good. I'm going to read an ad now, and then I'll be all my week zero thoughts. Something big is coming on September 2nd. All right, Chad, I want to talk to you guys right now, and we'll talk to you guys right now. We have had, let me see if I can do it, Josh Pate, Tim Fournelly, Sean McDonough, Greg McElroy, David Pollock, Tom McShay, who am I missing? That's why you're the best in the business, Liam. So my question to you, Chad, is, who can I get? Who do you want to see as a guest? An actual guest on this show. Don't just say, you know, Titties McGillicutty. Don't just say, oh, I'll get some big titties and a big pussy. I don't want that. Give me people like a big pussy. Anyway, who do you want as a guest? Get Herb Street. I think he might be mad at me that I made fun of his dog. See, he has ghosted us so far. I think he heard that I'd, yeah, yeah. Let's say, Herbie, Uncle Vern, Big Cat, Pat McAfee, I bet I can get McAfee. Big Cat. But, but Elliot, ments, ments, ments, okay, smooth Teebo, Taylor Mathis, Antamontoya, I, wow. It's going very fast. Paul Pastro, Dan Patrick, that would be very good. I didn't really think of how fast this would go. Jimbo Fisher, Hawkey McHogerton. Rich Eisen. Yeah. Yeah, ESPN's Rich Eisen, apparently. I didn't know, guys. I had no idea. I'm a vacation in Door County. I do the damn thing because Bobby Bones is a great human being, likes me, and he gave me the opportunity to be on the Rich Eisen show, the other guy shout out to him. I thought I was on the NFL network or something, and I had no idea Rich Eisen was affiliated with the ESPN. I still want to done it. It's not like I'm, like, Dan and Dave aren't going to tell me not to do it. But I was like, I did it. And an hour later, I see ESPN tweets me out and I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. And I'd never seen my name next to the letters ESPN. So, I don't know, probably should have checked, but I just never even thought about it. Never even thought about it. Um, now the green Greg, yeah, okay, well, some of you think you're funnier than you really are. Um, that was a, that was a pointless, it was pointless to ask the chat. I would like some real answers, but some of you think you're funny. All right, we move on. So, Blumman, what do you think about, what do you think about week zero? You got anything that I didn't add? I mean, to really pile on to the whole Ireland stick that is so outplayed that only T-bob light, only T-bob likes it, um, let, let's go through the records of the losers of this game. 22 and Nebraska blew that game shout, the onsite kick, they end up going for an eight. 23 navy gets smoked by another name. They win five games, Florida state, the collapse begins in Dublin. They go two and 10 after it and then twenty twenty five, Kansas state goes six and six after it. They were never the same. All these teams, the jet lagging and all this and that thank goodness that you and C and TCU both have gimme's in week one and we'll get back on track there. But this thing does not set you up for success down the road at all. I don't understand as a player, a coach, a fan why you would want to partake in this game. Aside from I guess money, it doesn't make sense to me. There's nothing about this. That is appealing TCU needed a get right game, get in a good rhythm immediately instead Jaden Craig is probably the least confident quarterback in football right now after what happened on Saturday. So I've got an are you sir, are you sure Liam, I told you to bring an are you sure? Are you ready? I am. I would like to speak to the good fans of Texas Christian University. Are you guys sure you're okay with Josh Hoover leaving because you spent all summer telling us he turns the ball over too much, he makes too many mistakes. We're going to be fine. We have a smart heart for a grad, we're going to we're going to be great. We're going to be incredible. Josh Hoover was a turnover machine. He couldn't trust him. He couldn't do this. Now he's off to Captain or to quarterback the 16-0 national champs and you guys are stuck with a quarterback who couldn't get it done against North Carolina. TCU, if I asked you a week ago, you were sure you were going to be okay with Jaden Craig, you were sure you were going to be okay without Josh Hoover, you were sure he was overrated. Are you still sure about that TCU fans? That's just me talking to you. It's it's listen, nobody's ever told you the truth like me when you went to the national championship game in the biggest fluke of all time, I said, guys, you should be excited. I'd be excited if my team got to the national title game. But you were you were a 75 team that somehow went 12 and one. It was it was beyond all understanding how that TCU team actually went to the national championship game. You're coming back to Earth soon. You guys said, no, you're not coming back to Earth. You came back to Earth and now you're not only on Earth, you might be digging and it's it's a little tough. So are you sure you were right? Are you sure you're okay without Josh Hoover because I just watched you play and the answer is no, not even a little bit. But what is your are you sure? I mean, I mean, I hate you with the impromptu one right now. I just thought of be sure we get into that one. Sure. Frank Walker, are you sure in the interception is bad is as bad as people make it out to be? Should we start doing a better job of showing drives ending and punts? That's as bad as an interception. Wow. So you want to think about that? If a guy, if a guy runs the 91st best offense and has a, you know, a punt percentage that's pretty high, but then another guy throws for more yards, but throws for like, and the first guy throws for six picks in a season. And the other guy throws are 20 yards and touchdowns, but throws 15 picks. We assume the guy through 15 picks is the worst quarterback when in fact, he's the one pushing the ball down the field. The first guy can't do it. He's taking risks. He's a gun slinger. He's throwing the ball around the yard. He's trying to move your offense down field. He's playing you in the position to score points. I'm going to tell you this right now, it is you.
the quarterback on Saturday that's willing to throw 20 interceptions in a season, they would have won that football game. Instead, they just punted a bunch. Think about that. Yeah, fair enough. Uh, now what's your are you sure for now, Walker? Are Missouri Tiger fans sure that Austin Simmons is the Arab parent is so much better than Bo Purbula Slimtiba who ran all over the yard on Saturday against NC State who's expected to have a prey stout defense? Are they sure the Austin Simmons is the answer after Austin Simmons did nothing last year except lose his job right off rip? Are they sure that this path with the lefty is always going to be better than Bo Purbula when you know what bro Purbula is going to give you? Are they sure? Yeah. Um, I said, I said this over the summer. Missouri fans moved on from Bo Purbula awful fast. But before he got hurt last year, he was really good. He had 11 touchdowns, nine interceptions. The numbers weren't great, but he was also in an offense with two elite running backs. It was never going to be great. They were always going to be a ground pound team and with his legs, they were even more ground pound. I think they would have been better off bringing Purbula back and not signing Austin Simmons because Austin Simmons all he did was as soon as he got the job, he lost it three weeks. So I'm with you. Missouri fans will argue up and down. Purbula can't throw. He can't throw. He can't throw. Well, if he's going to run for 150 yards of game and he's going to throw for another 150, I think I can take that. I think I can handle it. I think Purbula is going to win this divorce because I don't think Austin Simmons is a guy that you're going to be able to trust your program with it. Missouri. And I don't know why they did it. All right. I'm going to get to your voicemails in a second. Three, one, two, six, eight, five, 18, 89. After I'll tell you about rocket money. How about having Matt Linder known to defend the honor of West Coast football? I would I would do that. I would absolutely I would love to do that. Somebody said Van Latham. He goes to being too. I don't know. I don't know if the ringer likes us very much. So I would like to I'd love to have Van on the show. I'd love that. I think the ringer tailgate is very good. Big big fan of what those guys are doing over there. All right. So we've got voice mails 312 685 1889. Me and Bloodman are going to draft our top 10 week one games in just a second. Brooks Austin. I have talked to Brooks. Brooks will be coming on the show. Brooks Austin will be coming on the show and I kind of want to see if he'll do it like often. I do a little little breakdown as often as he wants to do it. I'm a big Brooks Austin fan. You big Brooks Austin fan. Bloodman. I kind of wish I watched this stuff more. So I'd be smarter. Yeah. Yeah. But like us, we're so busy. We that's why that's why he needs to be on here to make us smarter. And yeah. Perfect. You're the number one ball watcher in the world. I'm the number one ball. Nowhere. But you know. Yeah. Having got like that could help. Yeah. I'm like 470 third ball. Nowhere. Shayhan Jabber. How Jay. Roger. I don't know who that is. Who is Shayhan Jammer? Roger. Dude, these I have a view on the list. I don't know. I don't know who Shaheen J. A. Raj is. I don't. I don't know what to tell you. He was a guest on my podcast back in the day full circle. Shayhan Jammer. Yeah. Paul fine bomb. I love Shayhan. Shayhan J. A. Roger. Great guy. All right. Voice mails. Lukey. Don't suck tonight. Here we go. Voice mails. We're drafting. We're drafting after the voice mails. Oh, okay. Is that okay? Yeah. Yeah. No. No. I just got confused by the order. He said, I'm sorry. You hosting around my house. I was making sure you were on top of everything. Ella Langley. Yeah. Shane Gillis is a good suggestion. Actually, I wrote down Shane Gillis. I also wrote down Little Wayne. Imagine Little Wayne on here. I guess I'm the only one. Okay. Are you aware of Little Wayne, Glutton? He said he's a rapper. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What you want me to say? I want to show you a picture of Little Wayne. Would you know what's Little Wayne? Yeah. I know who Lil Wayne is. Okay. I love his rapography. Boy, boy. First voice mails, please. Look you, Blutton. Hey, what's up, Brandon? First time, long time. I just wanted to ask what you think will be the biggest overreaction from week zero. It feels to me like it'll be CJ Bailey being bad. I feel like it was just like a bad week for him, but let me know. Okay. So how do you tell the biggest overreaction from week zero is the biggest overreaction when you think it's not an overreaction at all? And when I watched CJ Bailey play, I said, you know what? God, he is bad. He is awful. This is terrible. Which might tells me the fact that I knew it in my plums and in my bones, that that might be the biggest overreaction. CJ Bailey has never broken through to the level people think he should break through to, but he hasn't just been outright bad. And the other day, he was outright terrible. So that's actually a good suggestion as the biggest overreaction of week zero. I will say, you know, I just did it, but there's a chance TCU can make their performance in week zero and over reaction. There's a chance that North Carolina, any positive as we take away, there can be an over reaction. Because if you think about it, North Carolina won. So we come out of their positive. If Jaden Craig had thrown that ball, had run that ball on fourth and two, they'd probably lose. So, you know, it's a razor thin margin. And maybe, maybe the biggest overreaction could be that Florida state is still dead, that whatever that was the other day, is indicative of a program that has just died on the vine. Maybe they turn around and get right. I don't know. Good question, though. I appreciate that. Let's go with voicemail number two. Man, is Chapel Bill back or TCU don't shit? For Chapel Bill to be back, Chapel Bill would have needed to be here in the first place. You know, he never arrived last year as a big time coach and college football. TCU was dog shit the other day. I don't think Sonny dikes the bad coach. I'll give him a week or two to see if he can't put it back together. But TCU was 100% dog shit in Ireland in the rain after a 10-hour flight. Sometimes, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe there's reasons they played bad. But yeah, they, they might be dog shit. They might be dog shit. But what do you think they might be dog shit? From what I saw on Saturday, there is nothing that could possibly make me want to invest in that program going forward for the next three months. Voicemail number three. Hey, Brandon. It's Coach Larry from Maine, big fan of the show. My question is, if Florida State gets their ass kicked by SMU next Monday, do you think they fired or velled the next day or do you think they they hold on to them? I mean, personally, I think they fired them, especially after yesterday's piss pour week zero performance against New Mexico State. But we'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks. Which brings me back to my original point. If they get blown out by SMU and they fire him on the Tuesday after week one, why in the hell did they start the season with it? They're waiting for an excuse to fire him now. So why set your program back another year, another cycle, another everything by bringing back a guy you knew you were getting prepared to fire? I don't understand it. If SMU beats Florida State by more than 24 points, I don't think Mike Norville coaches another game after that. But you know what, strange things happen. And am I going to rule out Florida State beating SMU? No, I'm not going to do it. But if if if if if he gets killed, yeah, I could see him never coaching a game again. Voice mail number four, please. What's up, Brandon? Long time listener here. Last year, you gave out Virginia as your best over under team picking the over for them. I was a little surprised that you weren't on them again this year due to their schedule. I thought that they had the most dominant week zero performance. Just wanted you to talk about them and their chances to go back to the ACC championship game. Thank you. I appreciate you watching and listening. I was on them. I did see it.
say they're very underrated. I did say this is a team that won 11 games last year and nobody acts like it. I did say the quarterback is good. I did say he was going to a place. So I don't know what you heard that told you I wasn't on them. I was absolutely all over Virginia coming into the season, all over them. Voice mail number five, please. Hey, B. Walk. This is Trey from Memphis, but I'm coming to you live from Las Vegas for Huff Daddy in the Tigs just knocked off Mullen and the run and revs. Is Memphis now your clear favorite for the college football playoff out of the group of six? Where is our road schedule just too much? And secondly, does that Memphis defensive line domination in the second half say more about that unit moving forward and what they might be able to do or struggles around the UNLV off into line? I'll hang up and listen. No, I think it says everything about Memphis. Charles Huff was on web this morning and he said when he went to the locker room a half time, he said, we prepare for four quarters. You're tougher than them. Go out and push them around. That's exactly what they did in the second half. The defense pushed them around. So I think the Memphis defense is great. I can't say they're the favorite right now for the group of five spot, considering group of six spot, considering they have to go to Boise State next week. Like this road schedule and Liam pointed out this morning, they play at South Florida. They play at Tulane. They play at at Boise State. They've already won at UNLV. They have five really tough road games and that it's hard to install them as the favorite when the schedule is that daunting. Boise State, I assume, will lose to Oregon and then you're going to have the game against Memphis. I think whoever wins that game was in great spot, but I can't install them as the favorite over Boise State right now. I think they are the most talented group of six team. Again, obviously just comes out with schedule. Stokes is only going to get better as the year goes on. The offense is only going to be more fluid as the year goes on. I thought something that they did was the wide stacking opens a lot of things up at the group of six level where the players are just not as good and speed is really going to be a massive factor and that small little talent gap is going to be so crucial in the wide stack when you're layering in every, I thought that was a genius, genius stuff from their OC. All right, let's go to Hoggerman Halski. We should go to subscriber only mode for chat. You know what? That might be a good idea. So what have you got for next voicemail, please? Brandon, what do you think about Bill Woods? I have this weekend getting that big win. Fun fact for you, Bob Petrino's last two stops prior to a UNC. He said coach was fired in a middle of a year. I thought for sure he was going to be 30 for 30. Did you see UNC building off this and having a great year? Or was it bull's gold? Because TCU had a little bit of lockburn of problems. I'm here for me. Thanks. Yeah, it could be a little bit of full's gold. Also, Lukey, let's make sure let's just try. I told you to pick a bunch of voicemails. Let's try not to have some repetitive ones here. But Bobby Petrino as all-time interim coach is pretty fantastic. Just the fact that he'll go to a place and immediately the coach gets fired. So he's the interim coach. I want him to enter him coach every program in the country. In fact, I would like for him to go to Florida State and when Norval gets fired. I would like for Bobby Petrino to enter him coach five teams this year. That's that's what I want. Next voicemail, please. Hey, Brandon Walker. Hartzipal. Hail State. Go, dog. Secondly, we zero come into a close. What do we think about the North Dakota State guys over there? They've seen them with pretty clearly against Jackson State. It might be a force to be reckoned with this season coming into the SDS. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you. Nobody has been on the North Dakota State wagon quite lightly in Bloodman. He will answer this question. Thank you, Brown Walker. So I don't know if you saw this Saturday morning, I did a little flip flop ski with my playoff. And I instead of taking Memphis to make the playoff, I chose North Dakota to stay. I went with the long shot in North Dakota State to make the playoff. I think the schedule is very manageable in year one. I got a lot of flack for it. People kept telling Bloodman. This is crazy. This is ludicrous. They have so many question marks. Even their head coach is saying they've got question marks. Brown Walker, I'm going to ask you a question right now. What team at the group of six level does not have question marks coming into this season? These are questions that are eventually going to be answered. And they answered them on opening night with the resounding dominant win over a team that will compete for their conference title game. Nathan Hayes was very good in his first game. They threw the ball very effectively. They're tight and Kessel as a demon. Their run game is always going to be there. I'll wrap it up. I'll wrap it up. Fine. But yeah, North Dakota State will always be a force to be reckoned with. Colors football season is finally here. Season is underway. And is there a better place in this world? Lee Imblement to watch a game to be invested in a game to enjoy a game. Is there a better place than Las Vegas and Nevada? Nope. No better place to watch college football from opening kickoff to rivalry weekends. You get you a place out there. You can be in a pool. You can be in a restaurant. You can be anywhere. They've got so many places. So many great, great, great, great venues to watch the college football games. Just really get out there. You know, lay some bets down. Do what you got to do and just have fun. It's the ultimate. Get away weekend for the boys. Then we'll go out to Vegas. Get the giant screen. Just watch a ton of ton of ton of games. It is a crazy, great place because football doesn't just end in Vegas. It's here all season long from opening kickoff through the CFP national championship. No better place to spend your Saturdays. That's right. We're going to be we're going to be crowning a champion in Las Vegas this year. Nobody's more Las Vegas than you, Liam. I'm as Vegas as against. I'm just another weird kid from Vegas. College football is at its best in Las Vegas. So check out college football. Check out Las Vegas visit Las Vegas dot com. All right. So let's do a couple more voicemails and you know, it was week zero. So we haven't had the most exciting, but we'll see. We're going to we're going to hone in on voicemails and get them figured out and get them right for you guys. So go with go with the voicemail one more time. Hey, Brandon, Marshall is going to upset Penn State week one. Marshall is going to upset Penn State week one. Now before we get into our draft, somebody's getting upset week one. I believe there's a there's just a preposterous amount of spreads that are over seven and just it's like there's not many games that are they're close spreads this weekend and count them on one hand. There's not a lot of there's not a lot of ranked on ranked action. It's just one of those weak ones. It isn't great. But somebody out there who is sleeping through week one, somebody out there who thinks everything is fine. Their world's going to end Saturday. So knowing that knowing we're likely to see that, I don't hate Penn State as the choice there. I want to I think their roster is solid. It's not exactly right. Your mom and tell them about the dominant Penn State. It's not it's not that. It's just a continuation of Iowa state, some veteran guys. And a lot of people are picking them and making the playoff solely because of their schedule. But what if a team coming in with a new coach, a new quarterback, everything's going to be good because of their schedule. Just sleep walks and gets beaten week one. I don't think that's the worst thing I've heard. So I don't know. What do you think about that Liam? I'm just really I'm really just thinking more about it. Like Marshall does have the quarterback. They are able to do a few years ago against Notre Dame, but it really happened from great defense of playing the secondary. I wouldn't wish this on Connor Griffin. Well, I would. I 100% would I would really enjoy it. I've had to. Hey, you know what? The teams I've had to see my team lose to since I've been a bar so y'all, some of y'all can be humbled around here. Okay. Some of y'all can be humbled real quick. So I'm not going to sit here and cry if somebody lose just a Marshall. All right. You want to draft. You want to draft our top 10 week one games? I cannot wait to see how this pants. So I was generally wrote down 11 games that I think are decent. But if I had to say in week one, how many games are good? How many games are good three? I was going to say four. I was going to say four and I'm stretching it when I get to the fifth one. Um, and you actually I might be stressed because I got Wisconsin Notre Dame in that group. And I felt like a stretch. That might be a stretch game. But I think Ole Miss Louisville LSU Clemson, Baylor Auburner, good games. Am I stretching one? Is Baylor Auburn a stretch? Anyway, let's draft. Let's draft. So it's going to be five picks for you. Five picks for me. And the point we're going to be making here is it's week one. How deep does this week go with good games? Um, the number one pick, uh, Liam. To I number one. Yeah. You want to go first? No, no, you're, I didn't know you're going to do in the earn it. Who's going to go first? It's your show. All right. Stripe side up or neck it side up. You ready? That good.
Stripes. Okay. Okay. That was just as good as flipping a coin. It was. That was really good. Yeah, you flip that really really Has a good flip, huh? Probably a 15-yard felony. Well, that's right up again Wait, this is just this might be a big ball. This might be a trick ball. Yeah, wait a minute I think the laces are making it come up. No, there we go. Um, all right. I'll pick first you of course pick second third Number one pick the game of the week the game that I think is a fantastic game And not just because I'm praying for an upset here It's Ole Miss Louisville. I think this is a great game. I think Ole Miss has a lot a lot a lot to be excited about Maybe the best quarterback in the country. Maybe the best running back in the country if I'm out of heart. He doesn't play That being said new coach new offensive scheme new a lot of things. They're going to Nashville Louisville is three hours north of Nashville Louisville good coach new quarterback Lots of like about that Louisville team, too. I think this is a classic great Interconference week one matchup. This is clearly the number one game of the week to me. That's my number one pick I couldn't agree more. Um, the one distaste thing thing I have for it It's it's in Nashville. It's at the Titans stadium We could stop doing this neutral site site stuff. I'm actually sick and tired of it This is something I meant to bring up when you're doing your week zero rapid reaction Yeah, where these games are so watered down. You mentioned Baylor Auburn. That's in Atlanta Let's get the full-on effect. We saw how much it meant to NDSU for the home game You only wasn't a great environment, but like Having that juice UVA is the perfect example. Having that game on campus that game was supposed to be in Brazil brother Yeah, I think the heavens it wasn't these games should all be on campus leave the neutral site for the playoff in bowl games Leave it for December and January. It's crazy. All right the number two pick and number three pick go to Liam Blutman go The number two pick. I'll use it on the potential that this could be Clemson else you and death Valley It could be a great lane kiffin masterclass a great Welcome back to the top Sam Levit a great introduction to Clemson scoreback, Vizina Maybe he's a stud all of a sudden. Maybe we're all silly and buying back in on Clemson. It's what that could be Tiger stay um night time electric I don't know why you don't mention you see like how when you're mentioning good games this week you could make an argument It is I mean, you don't have to make it already is so clearly a top three game this week I hate that I have to do it as a fan It's both sides. It's UCLA's bright new future you would think in Cal's bright new future You would think the Lu Poir the Chesney era both fan bases are so excited about what is on the horizon Both of them think they are confidently going to win this game and roll into a great season because of it it is It's a rivalry renewed in a sense. I personally and UCLA fans don't see the rivalry the same way the Cal fans do But I it's gonna be a pack stadium in Berkeley. I can't wait for it. That that is one of the best games of the weekend I can't tell who you picked. Did you pick both of them? I picked yeah, that was my two and my three two was LSU Clemson and three was UCLA Cal Yes, by the way, uh, it's it's right there, dude. I just didn't get to that side of it. It's right there Okay, okay, don't need like I didn't write down UCLA Cal. You're sensitive about Mississippi state - I wrote down UCLA Cal It's right there. I'm not sensitive about Mississippi state Did anything happen over the weekend we haven't talked about Who are you talking to you're talking to me. Yeah, you're talking to me. Yeah, I think on Twitter You're you're making fun of me the Mississippi state use use paint for for high videos. I'm not making fun You I had your backup immediately on that. Yeah, you're bringing in here in front of God and everybody We're doing the show make sure I like the stream Number three pick God. It's our number four picks. Excuse me. Oh, it's already bleak. Oh, God Yeah, I'm gonna down to it G6 playoff contender national title contender Oregon boycy state a couple of years ago. This was a 3431 game Oregon was I think Oregon and Oregon ended up 12 and other the number one team in the country going to playoff and Boycey state was right there with them. It was it in a game that was 3431 I'm just gonna bank maybe we get some magic like that again It's not a great fourth best game of opening weekend And number five Give me Wisconsin Notre Dame just the uniform combination is gonna be excellent. I Know you don't like the neutral fields when it's something like Lambo when it's something when it's a place that Has personality and history of its own like Lambo. I like it when it's you know a soulless Place like like Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta for Auburn Baylor. I get it. I get I get the point. It's too neutral But for Notre Dame was constantly Lambo just feels awesome feels big. So give me that. I'll take Boycey state Oregon was constant Notre Dame. That's that's picks four and five Yeah, I can't hate Notre Dame was constant with how much Those fan base is just Hunger for football Lambo. I can't I can't hate that it's gonna be a great scene. It's gonna be an incredible scene Yeah, it would hit with the low snow too a little snow on the field would be great Obviously probably not happening in early September was this the fifth pick. No six. Yeah, the six pick. Oh my gosh I guess by default by default Baylor Auburn. Yeah, DeLagway. Maybe maybe he's back Dave Miranda coach and first job this season You would think this is another bluffing. This is another team like Penn State Auburn fans are just assuming they're walking in this game and winning. They just they just are with the new coach with the new quarterback They just assume well all's right in the world. We're good again, and I don't know if there's anything guaranteed with this one at all If they were to show up and Alice goless loses his first game I mean goal is just my college football doppelganger. I got a root for him I'm really hoping he gets that win Jared Smith off the edge. I'm very very excited watching for Auburn I think by default you have to put that game there and then this is really where it's Yeah, we're we're fine tooth and nail breaking each other's teeth trying to figure out what to do here. Yeah, I've got a series of ways to go. I think I don't want to do it I think just have to do UNLV at Hawaii late night on the island two teams to start Oh and one and Already it's week one and both of them need a bounce back win already. It's a low point spread all let's go with that game Excuse me Liam as Has a new has a new high video hit the new high video. Has a new high video hit the uh hit the timeline? No Has a new has a new high video hit the timeline. No way. Oh Huh, huh. I have it. Let's see. I don't want to play any music Let me tell you something. I'm from West Point and Mississippi play county. One county below us is Knoxby county making the city. Some great players are coming to Knoxby county over the years. Jeffrey seven is probably greatest. But right now Well, you did it. Look at that. All you gotta do is wine like a bitch. That's okay, Paul. Paul Uh, all you gotta do is cry like a little bitch and then you get what you want. That's all you have to Um, all right, so be a lesson to all of you. We're down. We're down to picks uh eight and nine for me God Well, there's four options here. We're gonna pick three of them God You know what? Let me let me believe in Florida state to have one punch in their system last year They weren't good But they knocked out Alabama in week one. They just knocked them out. Just said they just right across the jaw said Fuck you. You're going down. What if they did the same thing to SMU? Huh? I'm blooming SMU walking in here got the chest out Made a plan a couple of years ago. Think they're gonna make playoff this year. What a Florida state just just popped them on the chain How about that? That's my pick number eight and then my ninth pick Leaving you to Separate the Shit from the shit that thing is I have a layup for the tenth pick. I'm gonna go I'm gonna I'm gonna cheat a little bit. I'm gonna go Miami Stanford Cuz I'm excited to see Mensa. I'm just excited to see Miami I'm excited to see the new version of Miami So I'm not getting too good teams air, but I am getting one national title container that I want to see I want to see them flex their muscle and show if they're good, okay?
So there you go. That's my, my picks are actually you did the 10th pick and then we'll sum it up. Let me build off what you just picked real quick as you're talking about that, that voice mail that said Marshall Pennstay were trying to figure out who's going to be sleepy. Miami was sleepy at Cal a few years ago. And I'm not, I think Miami wins this game handly, but trust the Confedon, our good friend, Ebo. Ebo are a bet Stanford with the points in this game. Okay. Fair enough. Take, take know that, like I said, lay up for this one. I'm surprised Northwestern's a 13 and a half point favorite here against number one team in the FCS South Dakota state. Of course, the Dakota man like me is bringing this game up. That, that's the best team in the FCS play in the team that normally are playing the caliber of a poem that normally wouldn't want to fight the North and South Dakota states in the world. South Dakota state had a laugh for they already played the game against that's and I think scored 80 ran the ball over all over the field in the throw. They've got a demon at quarterback chase Mason. Let's keep tabs on that one Griffin, Wildy, wider, seabird Northwestern who transferred in from South Dakota state the boy, the jacks want this game badly. So that's your pick. Your picks were I had Ole Miss Louisville. You had LSU Clemson and UCLA Cal. I had Boise State Oregon and Wisconsin Notre Dame. You had Baylor Auburn and you and I will be Hawaii. I had four state SMU, Miami Stanford. You had Northwestern South Dakota state. Which means to Lane Duke not picked and Colorado Georgia Tech not picked. Yeah, the only other ones on my list of were pick Liberty J.M. you and Toledo, Michigan State could be one of the sneaky ones. Yeah, exactly. That's why they do a Michigan state favorite by nine against new look Toledo. Both teams new. We don't know what to expect, but I mean that is another one to keep tabs on. What an awful week one. Yeah, it's bad. It's good that it's culture ball. It's good that we're going to watch for 12 hours and it's going to be, you know, we're going to be in Thrall and everything. I'm going to be in Indiana, Bloomington, Indiana, start the day. We're going to be for with big noon kickoff there to do the partial college football show week one. Welcoming Mike Kedick to the show. So excited about that. That's a big one. But otherwise, you know, just like to play North Texas. How do you get excited about some of these games? The guys in chat that are saying the apple cup Washington's favorite by like four touchdowns. Yeah, yeah. Now Washington State does have a knack for making that game closer than you think. Once again, going forward Saturday night at about 10 o'clock really after the prime time games and we will go live and stay live as we react to everything that happened in week one. We will do that every single week Saturday night will be our big show of the week Mondays. We will clean up Saturday night and we will build going forward in Thursdays will be our preview and interview show. So that's what it looks like to me. If you guys have any ideas, please hit us up. If you listen to the podcast, thank you for for listening and doing that. Anything else. Blutman. No, like he said, a few very good player interviews this week that you guys will enjoy. Brand and I both have one that we're recording tomorrow. Different ones. They'll be big time, except mine will be on the show and Blutman will selfishly put his own his Lee and Blutman channel. Correct, mine will selfishly be upload to my channel after your show. All right, that's, that's all I got. Lukey, anything for us? No, but congrats on the Mississippi State video. Thank you. Yeah, squeaky wheel gets the grease. Yeah, I want Dan laying on this show. I want you to interview Dan landing. You want me to interview Dan landing? I want that. You want that? I want that for you so bad. Well, Dan Lennon, look it up. Let's let's go. I don't interview Dan Lennon. I scared the interviewing Dan Lennon. Like I'm scared of interviewing Dan Lennon. I don't really, you guys can talk me into it. I'm not a big coach interview guy. I'm just not. I just, I, I, I much prefer talking to the people that cover the sport and are able to talk about the sport. You know, a lot of coaches and I'm not saying Lennon's like this. Because he's a little different. A lot of coaches just don't give me anything. A lot of coaches are boring. A lot of coaches just fill you up with a bunch of crap that they don't believe themselves. So any coach that isn't like that. I'm, I'll talk to all of them, but they got to talk to me like I talk. I'm not going to, I'm not going to, you know, change it just because it's a coach. So I said Lennon, because I think you actually give me good stuff. And hey, crap to Huff today. I think he was great. You think, you think landing. Oh, Huff was incredible. Huff was absolutely incredible. Huff was so refreshing. Yeah. Huff is going to dude. Huff coaching, Mario Taylor. No, no, Levy's going to win nine games and we're going to, we're going to, we're going to be, yeah. Okay. Yep. Um, all right. That's it. Thanks everybody. That is the Brandon Walker colors football show. This is first time I've actually ended the show myself. Usually I started an interview. So the show is done. Show is over ice cream truck time.
