This transcription is the first part of a two-part series titled "What Makes a Leader," focusing on leadership as influence. The speaker emphasizes that God calls everyone to be leaders, not through titles but through their ability to influence others. Jesus is presented as the ultimate leader because His influence has lasted over 2,000 years. The key lesson from Luke 2:52 is that Jesus grew in four areas: wisdom, stature, favor with God, and favor with men, teaching that great leaders are always growing. Growth in wisdom involves mental development through knowledge, understanding, and making wise decisions. Growth in stature refers to personal life, which determines leadership capacity; leaders must adapt their habits and schedules to new seasons. The speaker shares a COVID-era example where a leader’s insight to prioritize encouraging other leaders brought clarity to a complex decision. Leaders are called to see further (vision) and see smaller (details and people), like Jesus who noticed the widow's offering and the woman touching His garment. The Bible is described as a lamp for the path (vision) and a light for the feet (details). Ultimately, leadership is about people, and growing as a leader starts with self-growth, as everything rises and falls on leadership.
And I'm really excited to appreciate you today because we are starting on a brand new two-part series on leadership and it's title what makes a leader. And I believe that it's important for us to talk about leadership in church because God has called all of us here to be leaders. God wants you and I to be leaders because if we were to define what leadership is, leadership at the end of the day, leadership is influence. And how have you know that the Bible says that God wants us to be the salt and light of the world. God wants us to influence the world, influence the people around us. God has called you and I to be the head and not the tail to be leaders in whatever areas we are in. So the thing is leadership is not a title, it's not a position, but leadership is really influence. And so over the next two weeks, we want to take time to evaluate our leadership. For all of us to evaluate our leadership and so that we could also elevate our leadership to a whole new level. And what better person to learn leadership from than Jesus himself? Because leadership is influence. And you think about it all throughout history, there are many great leaders. Leaders of nations, leaders of empires, but many of them, you know, they influence the nation, they influence a generation. But how many of you know that Jesus, his influence goes beyond the nation or a generation? That even 2,000 years later, people are following Jesus, believing in Jesus, wanting to be like Jesus. Amen. That's why Jesus is the greatest leader of all time. And so as we look into the Bible and we look into the life of Jesus, you know, over the next two weeks, let's put on the lens of leadership when we read the Bible. And we can begin to see that actually the Bible is one of the greatest leadership book there is out there. So are you ready? So the first verse that I have for you is in Luke 2.52. And here the Bible says that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, in favor with God, and in favor with men. And as I read this verse, what strikes out to me is that Jesus being God, He Himself grew. You know, He was another, He was an example to all of us. And so if Jesus Himself had to go through a journey of growth, how much more do you and I we need to grow as well? So the first thing that I have for you today is that great leaders are always growing. If you want to be a leader like Jesus, if you want to be an effective leader in life, be it in your schools, in your workplaces, in your careers or in ministry, we need to be constantly growing. And it also means the good news is that you don't have to be born with leadership. Leaders are not born. You can learn leadership. You can grow in leadership. If Jesus grew in it, we can grow in it. And it's so important for us to grow in our leadership. Especially, you know, how you remember the earlier this year, past the year past, I was preaching about new season. And God has a new season that He's bringing our church to, bringing you and I to. And as we come into a new season, we need to grow into a new level of leadership as well. Because leadership starts with you. Everything rises and falls on leadership. You see, if a leader grows, the team grows. If a leader breaks true, the team breaks true. If a leader stagnates, the team stagnates. So, if you want to see a breakthrough in your team and in the things that you do, it starts with you and I. We need to first grow. So, the most important person to lead is you. Leadership starts with you and I. So, the first thing that we need a great leader is always growing. So, my question to you is, you know, have you grown as a leader? You know, take this time to evaluate ourselves over the last six months, over the last one year. Have we grown as a leader? Have we came up to a whole new level of leadership? And how do we grow in this verse in Luke 2.52? You know, Jesus grew in four different areas. The Bible says He grew in wisdom, in stature, in favor with men and in favor with God. And so, it gives us some idea that if we want to grow as a leader, we can grow in all this four areas as well. So, the first thing that Jesus grew in was in wisdom. So, if a leader, if we want to be a leader that grows, we need to grow in our wisdom. And that's why I call a mental growth. That our mindset, the way we think, the way we see, the way we make decisions, it has to come up to a whole new level. We need to grow in our decision making, we need to grow in our mindset, we need to grow in our minds. You see, the Bible talks a lot about knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. And it means that we need to grow, if we are growing in our mind, we need to grow in knowledge, we need to grow in understanding, and in wisdom. And all these three actually build up on each other. So, let's talk about knowledge. Maybe for some, as we're entering into a new season, we need to grow in our knowledge. We need to see things, to learn things that we have not learned before. You see, so knowledge is the foundation. You see, sometimes as a leader, one of our greatest fear is that we do not know what we do not know. Because if you assume that you know everything, then you will be likely to miss out something. So, we need to grow to have that humility to say, "I need to learn. I need to know. I need to find out. I may not know everything." So, we need to grow in our knowledge. On top of that, we need to grow in our understanding. And understanding is making sense of the knowledge, the effects, the information that we have acquired. We need to be people of understanding. And only with knowledge and understanding, then you will have the wisdom to make good decisions. The wisdom to have great ideas and strategies that we will perform. So, you need to, how do you make good decisions as a leader? You need to have knowledge and you need to have understanding. It's in first Chronicles, the Bible talks about the sons of Issaqah. And it says that the sons of Issaqah had understanding of the times, so they knew what they ought to do. So, they couldn't have wisdom to know what they ought to do. And wisdom is doing the right things at the right time, because the first and foremost they had understanding. So, a lot of times, how do we make good decisions and wise decisions as leaders? You need to have the knowledge. You need to have the understanding. You need to understand the intention, the purpose, the heart, the reason, the behind why we do what we do, and then you can make wise decisions. So, even for myself, a lot of times, sometimes my team will come up to me and say, "Hey, you know, Pasa, can you, we need you to make a decision on certain things? We want to get your decision on this or decision on that." So, a lot of times, the first response that I have is to ask them back a question, so that I could get more information, more knowledge, or I can acquire more understanding of the situation and the intention, because only with that, then can I make right and wise decisions. So, if we make decisions without the right knowledge, if we make decisions without the right understanding, then we are making decisions very haphazardly. So, as leaders, we need to grow in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Just as how Jesus grew in wisdom, we want to grow in wisdom as leaders as well. And next, I think it's dimension, is that Jesus grew in stature, and there's a physical growth, and I'm not talking about sideways, but in your personal life. We need to grow in our personal life, because your personal life determines your leadership capacity. And when you grow into a new season, every new season requires you to grow to a new level of your personal life as well. I mean, if you really practically think about it, when you were a single, how you live your life versus when you get married, it's different. Your habits have to change. Your schedule has to change. Even more so, when you have a baby, when a baby enters into your life, into your family, your schedule has to change. Your sleeping pattern has to change. You have to adapt to every new season. So, even for your own life, maybe some of us, is our personal life that is limiting our leadership capacity. Because if your personal life is in the mess, your leadership will be in the mess.

Jadi, ia beritahu sepanjang, ia akan beritahu sepanjang, 2021, "Where we could finally gather in about like 250 packs." So, we're really excited about that because we had not gathered for a long time. We could gather. We could run multiple services. All of you took turns to come on different weeks and all that, some of you remember those days. Glad those days are over. And so every gathering was very precious. So, there was then we were running like 250 people service. But we were constantly monitoring all the different regulations that came out every single week and it always lasted a minute. You had like two days to respond, three, you know, one day to respond. And so, that was one of the weeks that the new directive came up because the COVID numbers were coming, shooting up a little bit higher. The new priorities came up that in a few days time, you could no longer have the 250 people services. You have to go back to twos. And you know, we cannot run the service with two people, two people, you know, everything had to go back online. So, as a leadership team after those, the news came out, we gathered together, passed the hall, passed the name myself, or the other senior passes, the key leaders with that. And we're discussing, so what do we do? All right, we have a few more days. We could run one last service, or not run the service at all. What should we do? And so, there were a lot of thoughts in, we thought, okay, you know, I think we better run the service because if we don't do it, we never know when we can do it again. Because we don't know how this new heightened situation will be, maybe it could be going for three months, go for six months, go for another year. So, we've been into the discussion, and we're gonna ask, we said, okay, so if we run the service, should we run it for what kinds of people do we run for the older people, do we run it for the youth? Because the youth, you know, maybe they need more of a sense of community and it's more important for them to me. And so we all have this discussion, and we're like, wow, there's so many options, so many things to consider, so many pros and cons for different options and all that. And I remember as we ended up in this discussion, Pasal Lear said something that brought so much clarity. She said that, you know what, over the last one year of COVID, it is our leaders that has worked the hardest. It is our leaders that needs the most encouragement. And if we take care of our leaders, our leaders will be the ones that will be able to take care of the people. So, you know what, we should prioritize our leaders. And we should run a service for them so that they will be encouraged, they will be refueled to continue going. Because everyone is a little bit demoralized, everyone is a little bit discouraged that the things that's heightened up again. And so Pasal Lear says, no, we need to encourage our leaders. And when she said that, it just brought so much clarity to the room. 'Cause there's so many options, so many variables, so many pros and cons floating around. But when MoMo, she said that, bam, it's like, it hit the bullseye. And we knew that that was exactly what we needed to do. So that's why in those two days, in the 24 hours Pasal Lear Road at Sermon, and you will know it was made in the middle, we get it down, our leaders, Pasal preach incredible work. Our leaders was refueled, refiated for the next leg. So, that's what I mean. Leaders see further, leaders see clearer. And also, leaders need to see smaller. You see, sometimes as leaders, we think that we need to be the big picture kind of guy, which is important. We need to see the big things. We need to think big. But it's also important for us to see smaller. Because as we work with people, and it's we lead, it's often the big things that people miss, and the small things, the details that people miss. So, as a leader, one of my roles I see myself, is that I want to help people connect them to the bigger picture. It's for them to see how it fits into the bigger picture. But also at the same time, I want to ask questions to help them see the details, to see smaller. Because it's often the details that other people miss out on. See, Jesus was a person that looks at the details. He saw the widow's two minds. He saw the little children that the disciples pushed aside. He felt the woman touched the hem of his garment. You know, it's the little things. You see, Jesus sport, the little things that people miss. Jesus looks out for the little people, the other people miss. And so we can learn that from Jesus, that we need to see smaller. That's why as leaders, we need a leader with a telescope and a microscope. Because those are things that people miss. See, the Bible talks about how the Word of God is a lamb unto our feet and a light unto our path, in the book of Psalms. And so, the light, the Word of God, illuminates us. It helps us to be better leaders, because it shines a light down our path. It helps us see further. But it's also a lamb unto our feet that illuminates clearly the areas that she's right before us, the details that is before us. So that's how we need to lead. So as leaders, yes, think big. But we also need to look out for the details. Look out for the things people miss. Look out for the people, people,
