What are You Waiting For?

In this short motivational episode of the Being On Stage podcast, host Reggie Dawson delivers a direct message to performers of all kinds about overcoming hesitation and seizing opportunities. He asks listeners what is truly holding them back, pointing to fear, self-doubt, and practical worries like money or job security as common obstacles. Reggie emphasizes that fear is not inherently bad and should be embraced and crushed rather than allowed to control decisions. Drawing on his own experience, he admits he sacrificed opportunities in the past because he did not believe in himself or felt he could not manage the risks. He urges listeners not to make the same mistake, explaining that even when circumstances are challenging, some opportunities are worth pursuing because the experience and growth are invaluable. He stresses that talent alone is insufficient and that success demands hard work and action. Reggie encourages listeners to step into the identity of the performer they dream of becoming, making decisions as if they are already there. He offers a free 30-minute coaching session through his calendar at beingonstage.com/calendar, inviting anyone to map out a plan and start moving forward. The episode ends with a reminder to keep shining.

Speaker 1Shut up and sit down. Welcome to Being On Stage, the only podcast that gives you motivation, inspiration, and confidence to be better on stage. No matter how you entertain, sing, dance, band, comedian, public speaking, MC, drag, burlesque, performance art, or street performer, this
Speaker 2is the show for you. Hey Rockstars, Reggie Dawson here, your host of the Being On Stage podcast. What is going on? I got a real quick one for you today, something that's just kind of like sitting in my head, sitting in my heart, whatever you want to call it. But I know someone needs to hear this, and maybe it's you, maybe it's not, but everyone needs this once in a while. What are you waiting for? Like, what is honestly holding you back? Whether you're contemplating a next step, if you're not even on stage for the first time. Like, there's a decision that you're waiting to make, and there's an opportunity waiting for you. And it's like, you're just, why are you holding yourself back? Common reasons are, you know, lack of belief in yourself, fear. Fear is a big one, you know. But listen, I want to share something with you, okay? Fear is not a bad thing. I know. Embrace the fear. Crush the fear. Everyone's been afraid of something. Everyone's been uncomfortable. Everyone's nervous, I guess we can call it, or anxious. Or, you know, maybe you don't think highly enough of yourself. I don't know what is holding you back, but you've got to push past it. Your talent needs to be on stage. Your talent. And your performance needs to go to that next level. That thing that you're waiting to do, why are you waiting? Honestly, what is so importantly, like, what is it? What is holding you back? Crush the fear. Fear is nothing. I mean, it's not a bad thing, but it's also nothing. I know. Just go with me here. It's motivational. I've been there, you know. I've been in those situations where there's an opportunity, and I either didn't think I was good enough. I didn't think I could do it, period. I worried about how am I going to support myself? What about money? You know, what about my job? All this stuff. And I sacrificed a lot of opportunity because of that. And some of the decisions that you make, you know, when you rationalize these opportunities and not taking that jump and not taking that leap, it comes back to you, you know. Those decisions are. Those decisions are crucial. And I want to set you on that path that's going to make you that performer, that artist that you dream of being, that one you see in your head when you think 10, 5, 10 years down the line, you know. And the only way you're going to do that is to seize those opportunities, you know. There may be times when there is something actually, you know, devastating illness on a family member, God forbid, knock on wood. You know, maybe you have something. You know, maybe you have something going on with your family. Even still, some opportunities are just that good, you know. And I guess I want to be the person that believes in you enough to tell you to go for it, you know. To tell you that it's going to be okay. And even if it's not okay, you're going to learn a lot. And you're going to experience a lot. But you have to take those. You have to take those leaps. You have to take those steps to have that experience and to seize those opportunities and to propel yourself forward. You know, you are meant to be this amazingly awesome performer. We call it in my house, awesomazing. You're supposed to be an awesomazing performer on that stage. You're supposed to be in front of, you know, you're supposed to be in front of an audience. You're supposed to be in front of a large audience or whatever. Whatever it is you're dreaming about, whether it's a small audience or a large audience. If it's in your vision, if it's in your dreams, you're meant to have it. You have to step into it, though. You have to become that performer that you dream of being. You have to make decisions and take opportunities as if you're already there. Otherwise, you're not going to have it. You're not going to get there unless you step into it. Everything that you want, everything that you dream of, you can have. You can have all that success. Like, listen, if your dreams is like just money and fame, just push stop and go listen to another podcast. But, you know, if you're dreaming of putting your art out there in front of, you know, a large audience of people, and the large could be 10, 20, 30, 100, 1,000. If you dream of sharing your art and your talent with many people, if you dream of that thing that you love doing, beathing, the only thing that you have to do, and you get paid and make a living at it, if that performing in front of people is something that you just feel alive and you come alive when you're out there on that stage, or even if it's just something that you want to try this one time, you deserve it. Why aren't you doing it? Why aren't you taking those opportunities? I believe in you. I wholeheartedly, with all my heart, believe in your talent. Listen, talent's not going to be enough. You're going to have to work at it. Yeah, there's going to be work. With opportunity, there's going to be work. With success, there's going to be work, you know. But are you afraid of the work that's going to be in it? Because if you're afraid of the work, I mean, this is what you love, you know. Dream big and harness that dream and take action based on that dream. Because if you're ever going to be that person, you've got to take the actions equivalent to that performer, to that person, to that place that you want to be. You can get yourself there. You can take those steps. I give you permission. You don't need permission, but I give you permission. I believe in you. I want to help you. I'm going to give you an opportunity here. Hop on my calendar. What do you have to lose? It's a free session, 30 minutes. We'll talk all about you, what you want to do, a little plan or a big plan, whatever. We'll map out a plan, a little plan. I call everything little. I'm going to do this little dance here. Map out a plan and get you crushing it, man. But you're going to be willing to take those actions and step into the person and that performer that you want to be. That's the only stipulation. So hop on my calendar, beingonstage.com/calendar. If you have any issues with it, send me an email, [email protected], and we'll work through those, whatever issues you have. So, you know, if you have any issues with the website, shoot me an email. And as always, keep on shining.
