(upbeat music) Lemonade. (upbeat music) - Welcome to "Inner Childish." Side effects mean include laughing too hard and unexpected emotional growth. Wait, is this just like we're just doing it? We're just doing the thing. - How should we start? (laughing) (upbeat music) - All right, we're live. Are we live? - I did not believe that this is happening. I think you literally asked me in January if I would have any interest in doing this and I text it back immediately, yes. When do we start? - I know, you're literally so chill. I was like, she gonna have a phone call about this. You were so down. - Well, welcome to "Inner Childish," everybody. - Welcome to "Inner Childish." - That feels so good to finally say, this is so exciting. I mean, not only did we get to do a podcast together, but I missed podcasting. I took a little bit of a break from RealPod. Loved that show so so much, but felt like I was ready for the next thing and what's better than talking to your best friend, documenting the various chapters of life that we will go through together because we've already been through so many in our two-decade long friendship. And I feel like your real pot episodes were always like the most beloved. - I mean, as a long time listener of RealPod, I'm honored to finally be hosting a podcast with you. How did I get so lucky? I know, that's really so. You were secretly auditioning the whole time. You had no idea. - No, literally, literally. Oh, I knew. The day was always coming. - Okay, yay. So we have been dying to record our first episode of "Inner Childish," and I guess to tell you a little bit about what to expect with the show. I constantly love to be growing, learning, getting introspective. And I feel so grateful that I get that out of our friendship and our phone calls. And I wanna be a place where we can provide that friendship to other women and other people who can listen and feel like this is light and fun and they're seeing themselves in the stories in our experiences. But then also we're coming to the table, vulnerable, and sharing the things we've been through, the things we're working on. And not afraid to get deep because I think that's just important to display. In friendship and in relationships. And so I think that's something to me that's like, I guess, coming from real pod is like bringing that depth and that realness always. And then now mixing it with this like documentation of our weeks. And like what we're going through, how we're growing, you're entering this chapter of pregnancy and soon to be motherhood. I just moved into this house with Max. Like I think we have gone through so much together. And I'm like, I freaking wish we would have documented all of that change. And I think now with inner childish, we'll be able to do that and then do that with community and with people who are also like our virtual besties. What she said. It also feels so good to say the name out loud because that was something that took a lot of thought for us to come to a name that we really loved. We were going to just reboot the so much to say name for the OG real podders who listen to our offshoot before I was even like posting a line about a new earth. I have that hanging here for a little easter egg, but OGs know we had a podcast before this. And we're going to reboot so much to say but we took a fresh take on it. - Yeah, we wanted it to be fresh. I like the name so much to say, but I feel like it's a little too like two girls yapping with no point. And I would love for us to have a point. - We have a point. We have a point you guys. We have a point. So that's kind of where inner childish was born. And I feel like most people hopefully feel the same way about their relationship with their best friend. But we have experienced so much in life together. We've grown, we've been different people. And I feel like yes, we're always kind of cackling and having the best time together. But then there's also that layer of like emotional growth and that depth. And I feel like inner childish is this cute play on, you know, the inner child work. But then also the childish aspect of how it feels like to hang out with your bestie. And also a nod to our childhood, which is all around our set. - All around our set. - Should we give them the full backstory? I feel like most people here probably know. But Vick and I have known each other since we were five years old. We were next door neighbors. And Vick invited me to her fifth birthday party. And that is where this love story started. - Julie, I actually was asking them all about this yesterday. And she said, well, I remember going to some like first grade sign up and I went to write your name. And the name right above it was a little girl who lived at the address next door. And so our mom's met first and then my mom was like, yeah, Aubrey should come to Victoria's birthday. And my dad was like, oh my God, the next door neighbor so gorgeous to my mom. - I get my mom not me, not a child. No, not a child of Christina's is and wife such a mouth. - Oh my God. And then after that, it was kind of what fate ever since. It was just like, we went first through 12 together. We won dynamic due in a high school. And then I was glad we won that. You know, I would have thought we deserved that. - Well, then maybe some people will be like, I'm so sick of these two. We're not voting them dynamic duo. But then when we did get voted that, I was like, okay. Everyone gets it. Let's call a spade a spade. Who's gonna beat us at that? And then we went on to be college roommates. And then Victoria went on to Mary Max. And I went on to Mary Max's best friend Wood. And you know, we just continue our love story as our lives go on. We have matching tattoos. I just, I feel like we're the main characters. - I don't know if anyone believes in simulation theory. And maybe it's little too early to get into this side of me. You're gonna turn this podcast off like this girl's preaching sim theory. Look, it's fun to toy with, okay. And Aubrey and I have this bit that someone was supposed to code this basic blonde girl that lived in on this street and had two brothers and was born in April. And like all these things. And the person like did the code. And then like maybe it was late night, fell asleep, woke up, did the code again. But she was like slightly taller. Maybe a little more athletic, whatever. And then we are living like these parallel lives. And someone got fired for that. - It's so similar. My favorite is my people comment. They're like, wait, I thought you were at Victoria Gergbrana. I was like, so close. You were so close. I basically am. If someone looks at us closely, we don't look that like dead ass the features. It's the coloring. - No, it's the coloring. I don't know. I could see the mix up. I see it. - I can totally see it. If someone like squins looking at us for the same. - I mean, you're pretty far away from me right now like computer and like I'm seeing double. - Well, we also wanted to really help you guys get to know us today. So Aubrey and I filled out kind of like a mad lives prompt if you will, just to kind of subtly roast each other and also let you know like, who are the hosts of this podcast really? Obst you want to kick it off? But I would love nothing more. All right, question one, or it's the fill in the blank one. My best friend would survive approximately blank minutes in the zombie apocalypse and here's why. I answered that Victoria would survive the entire zombie apocalypse, obviously. And not only would she survive, but I would survive because of her. If I was left to my own divisive, I'll have big answer this. I'd be out in a minute, but I'd say just take me now. But Vic has never lost a thing in her life and is so determined. She is bringing her whole tribe with her. Like she's bringing us all in a barricade and we're hunkering down. She's going out and gathering food. She's killing zombies. I am not worried. I don't have to do a thing because Vic is not losing in the zombie apocalypse. - I'm so flattered that that is how you view me because I definitely feel like I'd be really scared but I would also be in it to survive. Like I wouldn't be giving up to the zombies and I would be really ruthless about like getting the squad together and then once the doors are locked, I'm sorry. I don't care if it comes up at the door. You missed our initial locking of it. You could be a zombie in disguise. You're out. - You gathered your four people that you saw as worthy to be in your pod and then you saved us all. Thank you. - And we just can't ration that much food. You gotta have less in the squad. - You can't, you can't, I'm sorry. On the other side of this here so I answered this question for Aubrey. My best friend would survive approximately 30 seconds in a zombie apocalypse and here's why she would immediately start crying. Freeze, be unable to work her legs, crouch down, crying and screaming, "Please don't hurt me." If you brought me in the barricade, I'd be like, "Let me just, I'm gonna show myself to the door, just let me out. I don't wanna be a burden to anyone. This isn't, this isn't for me, this isn't my life." - You would people please your way into being released to the zombies. - No, I think I would people please my way into the zombies of anything. I'd be one of the zombies. I'd be like, "You guys, I don't mean, just let me, let me be a party, you guys." - They'd be like, "She's harmless, you guys. Let's give us the next person." - Just let her glue. It's just kind of sad to watch. - That one just wanders the streets by herself asking for wood. I don't know why she needs that material. - I'm dead. - It would's that I'm dead. - Okay, I'll do the next one. It's, Aubrey has never won an argument about how long it takes to get somewhere, but that's never stopped her. - Wait, please explain. - Okay, well so this one was actually really hard for me to do because you win every argument with me, like in our friendship, you are always right. Like if we look at something and it was blue and I took a picture and it was blue and then Aubrey's like, "No, it was rad." I don't even wanna push back because now when I look at it, it's red, like that's how it works. So I really didn't have an answer for this. I texted your husband and he said that you always argue that it's gonna take a certain amount of time to get somewhere and then you're wrong. - I do and he's wrong about that. What he's wrong about is that I've never been wrong about a thing in my life and like I think that we need to know that about me. - That is such a good one, that is a good one. - I think I'm too stubborn to even answer this prompt about myself, you on the other hand. - So many things. Victoria has never won an argument about the fact that the word "amant" "amant" meaning "amnot" the conjunction, is that what it is? - I don't know. - "amant" is not a word, but she will die on this hill and we've been arguing about this since we were seven years old and she is adamant that this is a word. - It just rolls off the tongue like, "amani" the best person for the job. "amani" the one you thought you were calling? - Can I tell you when I knew that you were gonna die on this hill and that I needed to just let this lay as it was? - I was so proudly listening to your real pod with New York Times best-selling author, Jeanine Roth, and you dropped "amant" into one of your responses. And I was like, "Oh my God, no, this is a part "of her vocabulary forever. "I'm gonna drop it now." - Look at how things start. You drop it into the culture. It starts getting used and I will end up being correct. I can't be the only one that's ever used that word. I mean, come on. - Okay, this is like a fetch, like, stop trying to make "amant" happen. - It's not gonna happen. (laughing) - We can't do the next one. - Okay, oh, this one's sensitive, but I think you're kind of coming around to it. - Oh my God. - Victoria's toxic trait is that they genuinely believe that they're great at driving, but no one had the hard to tell them otherwise. And I've been trying to tell Victoria she needs to be so careful behind the wheel. - She said she was a 16-year-old. - Really a bad driver. Max has been really getting on me about that. It's bad. I almost had such a little fender bender the other day that like I stopped and was like, Victoria. - We need to focus. Like we're behind a moving vehicle. That's going 50 miles an hour. Like we need to pay that, Jen. - You've come a long way, though, 'cause in high school, your thing was, I'm not a bad driver. I've never been in an accident. - And you haven't been? - That's true. I've never caused an accident. Someone did fender swipe me. They were from behind. It's always the fault of the person behind you. - That's probably my thing. Is all the accidents happened from someone behind me who's like, what the, is this car in front of me? - What are you doing? - And they couldn't play defense fast enough. But then I, wait, when I'm in college, we were walking out to Vic's car and she was gonna drive me somewhere. - And I look at her at the side of her car and I'm like, oh my God, what happened? She goes, oh, I nicked it. It literally, from the side mirror, all the way to the gas tank, like the entire length of the doors was just like scrape-dented white. I was like, do you know what nicked it means? 'Cause it's not this. You need to replace two of your doors. - No, that was nicking it. And if the car functions after the NIC, I think it's a NIC. And I think that happened when I was like, reversing out of something and I didn't like see the pole. I will say in my car now, I'm obsessed with it. It's a Mercedes GLB and it has all these sensors. I mean, the car stops me. If I'm close to something, the whole car stops. Like it hits the brakes for me. But now it's like, I can't drive another car because I don't have my 360 view. I don't know, I'm not gonna drive in a car. Sorry. - That was money well spent for you. I'm happy that you got that car. - Yeah, I love it. Okay, so I'm really not trying to kiss your ass with this. This is just the truth. I said, Aubrey's toxic trait is that they genuinely believe they're great at blink and no one has the heart to tell them. Honestly, I have to give her a compliment here because if anything, Aubrey says she's not good at things and she's actually really, really good at them. Like you have such a low ego and you're so self-aware, I can't think of a thing. You walk around saying you're really good at that you're not good at. If anything, I'm like, Aubrey, you are so good at this. And you're like, wait me, I'm good at this. If anything, I need you to start believing you are super good at something. - I know you've always rooted for me. You've always told me I could literally do anything I want to do. - 100%. I mean, you could have been a demon athlete with me. - We're just crazy. I'm five two. - You're so determined. - I could have made the USC volleyball team. - You're determined, you're athletic, you're driven. If you wanted to, you could. - I love this game. - Thank you. - Yeah, you're welcome for the compliment. Thanks for roasting me. Say it all with love. - The next one is the most Aubrey sentence ever spoken is. I don't care whatever you want. Oh, that is me. That is very me. Literally, Aubrey will not make a choice. She doesn't want to be the leader. It's why we work out really well. - I know, that's why we're best friends. Wait, and then on the similar vein, the prompt that I had was the most insane sentence because ever spoken, I have this in writing. You once texted me in high school. And I quote, "I can't do that, I'm too shy." And I literally in high school tweeted that. - I said, "This is an actual text I got from Victoria Garrick." - Because there was nothing that Victor didn't do. Victor was trying out for all the sports teams. She was running for student council. She was in the talent show. - Hey, wait, you said earlier, I've never lost anything. Never ever went to student council. - I know, I know. That was a tough loss. - They knew I couldn't be back there actually doing the books. They knew it was just really like a for show thing. - You wanted to be on stage with the mic. That's what it was. You wanted to be up there in the mornings. But no, where you're like rooting for me being like, you can do it. You can do anything you put your mind to and you're not shy to try. - Oh my God, that's so sweet. And I believe that about you, you just are too shy to try. - I'm way too shy to try. - I need permission. - Okay, Victoria's villain origin story began the day and I remember this vividly. Vic, our sophomore year of college sat down and tried to Google mental health and athletes. And nothing popped up. And I think literally just that one Google search with any lack of results started her, what has it been 10 years now? 10 year career started with a TED talk, then started posting online, then started real posting, then real pod. I don't even know if I have the order right. But like the crescendo of events that occurred from that one Google search is actually insane. Whereas most people would have Googled that and been like, "Huh." And then shut their computer and moved on. Like you were like, "No, that's not right." And literally created a 10 year career with a hint of opponent. Like it's crazy all that you've done with that one Google search. - I wasn't expecting that to be so nice. Mine is not like that, but thank you. I love that's a cool twist on villain origin story. Like the stigmatization of mental health issues didn't want to see me coming. - No, exactly. We always say we said you could have used your power for good or evil and you used it for good. - No, fully. And just for context on guys what that means is before I like had my eating disorder and then heal my relationship with food and then wanted to help other women do the same. I was 100% like really in a toxic place of like dieting and there's totally an alternate reality where like I didn't heal myself and I became like more unhappy. And then I did a page on like how to calorie count. Like the ozempic era would have been like kind of insane if you'd gone on the other path. - I'm so glad that didn't happen when I, if that happened when I was 17, we would have lost me. - No, these poor kids. - Thank God. - Thank God. I'm so happy to be using my powers for good. Okay, well thanks for that really beautiful and generous compliment. - Yeah, no, go ahead. I'd love to hear what you say about me. - I hope it's okay. I'm saying this and if not we can cut it out. But I said Aubrey's villain origin story began the day she got first trimester nipple. Guys, you guys, no one talks about some of the shit that happens in your first trimester. I'm pregnant for anyone who doesn't follow me specifically. - If you live under a rock, you know, for living, you're losing to me, yeah. You guys, I'm like hot and sweating right now. Literally thinking about my first trimester, you're so cracked. This has been my villain origin story and I'm so grateful and so happy to be pregnant, but holy fuck. - I'm a little mean. - No, you're not mean at all, but I just thought that was funny because, you know, it is-- - The one tells you your nipples grow. What is that? - A lot can happen in 12 weeks. - The next one is you can always tell Aubrey is lying because they blink right before they blink. So I said plot twist, you can't. She's the best liar. She picks up on lies instantaneously. She takes it places you never dreamed of and that's what makes her cute but deadly. I feel like you're an incredible liar. And not in like, obviously you're not out there lying about like important things or being shady, but when it comes to your friends secrets, something that someone's not supposed to know yet, like with really good intentions, nothing is getting past you. - That's so true. That's so true. - I feel like it's hard to catch me off guard with a secret that I'm like not supposed to know or something like that. - No, you know everything. Your body like senses it because you're kind of like a witch. So a tingle will happen and you're like, oh, this just occurred in the world, but I feel like with me and with your friends [BLANK_AUDIO] and stuff, you're so good at lying. 'Cause you're just casual. I have like a nonchalance that Vic always is like, how do I get like that kind of like that factor where you just kind of like lightly shit on everything? - Yeah, you just kind of like move past it, you brushpire it, no one questions it. - I have your answer is I can always tell Vic is lying because you either get super nonchalant. Like you either really lean into it and you act like it's no big deal and like that's a red flag for me because you as a person are very chalant. - There's nothing nonchalant about you. So I know you're lying when you get like kind of laid back and you're like, oh yeah, no, I don't know, I haven't heard anything about that. - Or if someone catches you off guard, like you kind of turn into Glenda. Where you're like, no, no, no, no, no. Like your eyes get really big and you're like, you get overexpressive. So you have to know Vic to know. But if we need to lock in and lie together, that's just telepathy. - Yeah, that's a different thing. When we give the eye contact and we've got to just keep going but you're still right about me and you know what else I was thinking every recently and this is just kind of classic. But one of my values is honesty and being truthful and so I feel like I never want to lie. Like I want to be someone who none of my friends can ever say she lied to me. Maybe I said something like, you know, if they were like, were you there that day and I said something like, wait, what day are you asking about? Like maybe I didn't want to give the answer for some reason. But I never specifically said the thing. - You're not a liar ever. I don't think you've ever lied to me. - I don't think you've ever lied to me. - I think it really hurts me when I am lied to. - Totally. - And lastly, we're ending with a nice one. I anticipated them all being like kind of roast but they ended up being somewhat like complimentary. - Vic was like, can we throw in a nice one? - I of course didn't write down the nice one. So can you give me the prompt in real time and all kind of do this live? (laughing) - That's completely our personality because I've got a five cents beg I've written about your treat. - No, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay. - So it's said, if blank was your friend, consider yourself lucky because one of her best traits is. So I said if Aubrey is your friend, consider yourself lucky because one of her best traits is being the perfect person to talk to in a crisis or a time of need, whether it's her natural ability to always say the right thing, her validating energy that is never sick of beating the dead horse or the way you'll call her, crying and then leave that same phone call laughing. Aubrey is like the best person to talk to. And I think all your friends would say that about their tough moments. - I didn't write anything down and you said all that. (laughing) - Got this. - It's okay, you hate me. - That is so nice. Okay wait, reach from back to me. I've got yours, I've got yours live. Well, it would be if Victoria's your friend consider yourself lucky because one of her best traits is, okay, if Victoria's your friend, consider yourself lucky because one of her best traits is her loyalty. She is the most loyal person I've ever met. Like I think it takes a lot to get into your little tribe and it goes back to your zombie apocalypse thing. But like ever since we decided we were best friends when we were five, like I knew I was taken care of and that if Vic was ever gonna room, there is no one there even thinking about talking badly about me. Like the way Vic has no problem being like, don't do that, that's my friend. Like that's been her personality since we were five years old. She has your back no matter what. And I just think, I don't know if that's like the Greek Orthodox in you, the Taurus in you, just who you are, but I think that's the most invaluable trait in a friend. Thank you. That's very sweet. I would agree. I also think it can be to a fault at times because I know that's just how I'm gonna be so that I'm like do I wanna add a person to this like that I'm gonna like blood bond to. Now you, now you forever have to take care of them and make sure they're taken care of and loved. And honestly, I can, I've got family husband, you were done. No, I'm getting it. All right, I hope that gave you guys a little bit more of a look at Aubrey and I, our friendship, our personality traits. If you don't already follow us on Instagram, hopefully those things are coming through already, but there's a little bit more. And you're gonna learn a lot more about each of us throughout this podcast. We also wanted to share with you guys a really fun segment that we're gonna do every single episode. So Aubrey came up with the name because as I've learned through doing this podcast with her, she is a creative genius. I always wanna share the name and why you came up with it and what the segment is. As all good 90s kids or 2,000 kids with a landline new, star six seven were three very important keys on that phone. So we're calling our call and segment star six seven so you can anonymously dial in and tell us anything. We don't care if it's a funny story, something hard you're going through, something hilarious that happened three years ago. We just wanna hear you guys gap. We have probably 45 minutes an hour to yaps. So we wanna hear from you guys and have a third besty gap with us. Totally, that's one of our favorite aspects of our long distance friendship is our phone calls. And so we wanted to really bring you guys into that. And that is linked in the show notes and also on the Instagram in the link in bio if you follow us at inner childish pod. So we'll start those off the next week. And then lastly, we're gonna end each episode with something beautiful which is a cute idea that we're stealing from Aubrey and Wood. Sorry, your cute couple relationship is adorable but we're gonna monetize that on the show. I think that this should be kind of a global thing that people do to end their day or start their day with people they love. It doesn't need to be a boyfriend. It doesn't need to be a husband, wife, whatever. Like text your friends, you're something beautiful every day. But it's basically one thing you saw in the world that made you smile and was beautiful for lack of a better term. It's researching the good. And Vic, do you want to tell us you're something beautiful for the day? - Yes, I do. It reminds me of my three good things in my book to imbalance. It's so important for us to be looking at what's good in the world and reminding ourselves of that. Okay, my something beautiful for today was that every morning I wake up after max and I text him high. I just text him H.I. And he knows that smile like my brain's on it. I'm alluring him, I'm awake. And then he comes into kind of like hug, kiss me and welcome me to the day. And so I texted him high this morning and he came in with a smoothie. He had made me a protein smoothie with strawberries and everything. And I was just like, now I don't have to think about breakfast. A king. So that was my something beautiful. - Oh, that's so cute. Similarly every morning now because what has to go to the gym before me? Because of Hank. He text me every morning like the list of things that Hank has done. I eat like Hank has gone pee, Hank has poop, tank has eaten. And we're having a baby girl. - Love you. - That's how he ends every message. So cute. He does it every day. I'll say today mine was we met each other halfway because we have to be home for Hank now. So we met each other halfway back from the gym. He was walking home and I was walking to there and he turned around and walked with me back to the gym which was sweet. - Okay, I love that. I promise every week won't be us talking about our husbands, you guys. - I know she's doing other one. - No, I think that's good, that's real. But I know, unfortunately we love them a lot. - Yeah, we love them a lot. - Shoot. - They love each other. But think about your something beautiful. Take a moment to reflect and we hope you enjoyed this first episode of Inner Childish and we're going to be back next week. Every Tuesday, you're your besties in your year. - This is going to be the best hour of my week. - I know, I'm so excited. - Are you just going to yap with you? - We're going to be yapping. - Yay. - And getting deep. - And getting deep. - Thanks for listening to this episode of Inner Childish. Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast wherever you listen so you never miss an episode. - Oh, and follow us on Instagram at Inner Childish Pod so you always get the behind the scenes. - We're so, so grateful for you. - See you next time.
