people say i don't listen but i listen i'm gonna prove how much i listen for years now jesse the
audience specifically the podcast audience has wanted me to do a saturday night reaction podcast
like a late saturday night thing so they could listen to it late at night or early sunday morning
and i've not done it i've just left that space open first time you hear from me is going to be
on sunday night i'm gonna try it this week okay so really really late saturday night slash really
really early sunday morning if as long as mitch is awake and he handles the file i send him properly
you'll probably have something in your podcast feed maybe even something on the youtube channel
we'll see so i listen let it never be said that i don't we're jam-packed high atop a lovely
downtown nashville tennessee it says here it's thursday october 29th the year of our lord 2026
well that means it's thursday doesn't it yeah it means it's thursday that means we got upset alerts
a lot of them across the country i think the big 12 could steal the show this week but there could
be some weirdness in the big 10 and the acc and the sec2 perhaps even g6 josh makes an appearance
or two in the show tonight haunted teams i don't think we've ever done a themed show like this one
in our life jesse and we're not starting tonight i have dressed up as the future commissioner of
college football that is my costume for the evening but we do have some haunted teams and
frankly what i'm going to say tonight is going to be just as relevant for kansas state and oregon
and penn state november 1st as it will be this week still though themes someone in fact several
someones are upset with early kickoffs in college football i get asked about once a quarter to
address this i will all that plus
some noise some some rattlings and rumblings around the ecosystem about a g6 playoff well
hoops amongst us would have thunk it jesse who has ever heard that idea floated about don't worry
for those of you who think i'm fully on board with this idea i'll even push back a little bit on it
and i'll tell you why they're watching us in salina kansas storm chasing country for me
charlotte north carolina wedowie alabama prez you've been to wedowie alabama at a family reunion
yeah
my family reunion and chattanooga tennessee appreciate everyone for subscribing we are
getting ever closer to 600 000 subs please help us do so again it's free for you and it just helps
us out with that we dive into the show i got week nine upset alerts i've got half a dozen of them
maybe you have more uh the way i like to do this is i like to look at games and i'll say some things
about them and then i'll just put a grade on it how concerned am i about the upset how concerned
am i about the favorite here miami minus
believe it or not this is the saturday primetime game on abc so that is the state of affairs for
the calendar this week we will be paid back in full and then some next week but this week this
is your primetime game uh give me a three on the upset alert concern meter i know bill belichick's
history i know they've been better than advertised this year here's what i also know
notre dame's games coming up next week from miami you could well you're not going to sell me on a
look ahead you could sell someone on a look ahead and you could tell someone that and they may say
uh-oh look out i'm just not that person miami pass defense may be suspect if you wanted to sell me
that you could get miami through the air maybe you can i'm not sure billy edwards is that guy
and therefore i'm not sure that the upset's really in play here he's only thrown for 250 or more once
this year now the follow-up question with miami is are they going to get upset here i don't think so
then on the flip side of it okay well are they going to run the score up i don't know like are
they going to start getting margin on teams but that's not the conversation here so as far as the
upset alert concern give me a three next up where we're headed tomorrow actually virginia at wake
forest don't tread on saturday tour we'll be there virginia will be there as a 13 and a half
point dog against wake wake forest out of all the portal quarterback moves probably the most
underrated landed at wake because geo lopez has been incredible jesse did you have people describing
geo lopez as a dog on your bingo card in late august no you're a geo doubter and yet here he is
with 23 total touchdowns and how many picks one that's it four plus touchdowns in each of his last
three games we call that a hot streak and we think it'll continue here and on the flip side kind of
like i just described miami the way you technically would attack wakes through the air i just don't
know that virginia is built to do that and conversely wake's got a top 30 run defense so
there's also the possibility that wake gets out to an early lead and virginia can't run the ball
to get back in the game even if they want to run the ball and that's not saying they can per se i'm
gonna put a four on this because it is rarefied air for wake forest so there is always the chance
that they don't control the controllables and they're not going to be able to control the
much confidence and faith as i have in jake dickard we're seeing this team in the first position
of this magnitude that they've been in that's why i'm going to go as high as a four next up
we're going to go to a nine arizona's at texas tech welcome back noah fafita first off long
overdue on this show they are the top there are eight top 10 passing attack in the country texas
tech in the 120s in past defense for that reason and that reason alone i'm putting a nine on the
meter the number is only three and a half so this wouldn't be a big upset at all texas tech has
home field and maybe a little bit more baked in and that that accounts for why they're favored
by what they are the texas tech run game that's who this game falls on and they are facing a top
25 run defense and that's going to be really fun to watch it's an 11 a.m kickoff on halloween how
does this happen don't know don't know i'm going to address early kickoffs later in the show but
will hammond is
at this point six touchdowns six interceptions if arizona can make them execute at a high level
offensively i think this game may be there for arizona i know what joey's going to do with this
and that's okay whatever they need however they need it i am happy to serve i'm going to put a
nine on the upset alert concern meter on that one next up is auburn and old miss old miss is favored
by 13 and a half really off the radar game then again auburn georgia was off the radar until it
came back to the plate auburn pass defense is just bad so trinidad chambliss has an opportunity
to do a lot of work on this particular saturday i guess the path for auburn here is if you duplicate
the Georgia thing, because everyone's going to look and say, boy, if they could just do what
they did against Georgia, okay, well, find me plus three turnovers. Find me plus two turnovers.
And then show me Byron Brown throwing for, I forget what it was, like 150 or 200, but he ran
for 100 to 150, somewhere in that range. Have him do that. Have them stay ahead of the sticks. Also
have them constantly either leading or within one possession the whole game. Yes, they can win this
game. Byron Brown in a grinder of a game, I'm fine with. Byron Brown in Auburn trying to keep up,
you know, the spot LSU put him in pretty early, I'm not comfortable with that, especially when
they're on the road here. So I'm going to put a three and a half on it. I said four, I'm going
down. That's a critical half point, by the way, on the upset alert concern meter, because we track
this after all. Next up, I don't know why more people aren't talking about this game. Utah at
Cincinnati.
That's a nine, Jesse. We've got two big 12 games with nines on the upset alert concern meter.
This reminds me of Tennessee, South Carolina a little bit.
Tennessee was coming off a huge win, just like Utah is. And then they had to go on the road,
just like Utah is. Now the difference is Tennessee, they faced a rested South Carolina team.
Cincinnati's coming off a big win of their own. So you could technically say both these teams are
in a letdown spot. Utah on the road.
They played Colorado. That was a field goal game. They played Iowa State, which they ended up winning
by 14, but that game was a lot closer than the final score indicates. It is also the week before
the Holy War. And Cincinnati, here's the difference. Cincinnati ran for 225, 255 really,
against Texas Tech. I say really like it's debatable. 225, 255. No, it's bad handwriting
is what it is. Anyway, they ran for, try this on Jesse. They ran for a quarter of a thousand yards
against Texas Tech. Utah's a top 10 run defense. I don't know if you could play a couple of games
and run for that much on them. You probably could, but Cincinnati's got to, they got to find
different ways to generate offense per se in this game. I think they can win the game. Like,
I think they'll be right there. So I think the number's too big. I am going to put a nine on
the upset alert. I'm going to put a nine on the upset alert. I'm going to put a nine on the upset
alert concern meter here. Speaking of big numbers, how about Minnesota at Indiana?
Indiana's nearly favored by three touchdowns. Wow. So I know people are going to maybe look and say
20 and a half. Wow. Minnesota went on the road to Washington and won and they beat Michigan and
they beat Iowa. That is true. However, FanDuel could look and say, what about that game up there
where they got blown out against Mississippi State? What about, what about getting blown
out against Purdue? So both, both extreme outcomes are in the bag here.
Does this line not reek of an Indiana with a healthy Josh Hoover? And we don't know his health.
And I'm not saying that's what's reflected here. It just, it more feels like a line
that's in tune with a fully healthy quarterback because they've been playing tight games against
everyone. They being Indiana, it's their ninth straight game too. This is that last game before
the bye.
So I do think the number is too high, but as far as an upset, give me three and a half on that
week. Nine, don't tread on Saturday tour headed to Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Jesse's never been there. Neither have I. Press has been to the state. And as we have learned in
the past 24 hours, according to some polls, this is the number one fall foliage state in the
country. I can't wait to get there. I can't wait to get there because we can't go to Vermont.
Or Minnesota or Michigan, all states that Google says ranks above North Carolina and fall foliage,
but not the Willie C poll, not Will Compton. The shirts, by the way, are available at
patestatematerial.com. I think they both look good. We always do a darker and a lighter version
of the don't tread on Saturday tour shirt themed specifically for that week's visit.
This week, it is Wake Forest. We've never been there before. So this,
who knows how many thousands of dollars these shirts will be worth down the road. Millions,
maybe.
But conservatively, thousands of dollars. But you've got to purchase one so you can be on that
black market down the road. Patestatematerial.com. Can't wait to get there. Tomorrow, we will be on

We move on. We have the commissioner's poll. I've updated my top 25. These are rankings.
These are not power ratings. They are powered and built by lovable. And I've gotten a lot of
feedback, as you would imagine. Some people were classy enough to disagree and then point out
lovable in their replies. And if you do that, you will lead us off. And speak of the devil,
Will Compton had a problem with Kentucky. Now, some are saying that Will Compton has had a
problem with Kentucky for a while. You may look at this if you don't know anything about the
just doesn't like Kentucky. I look at it as someone who knows Will Stein stole his transfer
portal quarterback in the dead of night. And I see a hurt person who is trying to hurt people.
So Will Compton thinks Kentucky is ranked a little too high. We got him at number three. There you
go. We built the commissioner's poll right here on lovable. The loss to Alabama is a while back,
ladies and gentlemen. And their wins against South Carolina on the road, which looks better by the
way, which just has always looked good. Those really stand out. And just because you may be
uncomfortable with Kentucky upsetting the old apple cart here, it doesn't mean it's wrong. It just
means it is. And then there were a lot of people, not Will, but a lot of people were saying what's
going to happen to them. I don't care what you think is going to happen. By the way, did you
think this was going to happen? Did you think Kentucky was going to be in the thick of the
No, you did not. I didn't either. That's why I'm not going to judge Kentucky based on what I think
is going to happen. So I am not apologizing for having Kentucky number three. And I'm also not
going to sit here and listen to people. If they do lose a couple of games down the stretch saying,
boy, you look stupid having them number three. No, because then if they lose, I'll have them
where they should be. But I'm not doing that thing where I project with my rankings. Next up,
head to head crowds coming for me. Noah, he said, if only people always
think they're doing something when they say this, and they almost never are. He said,
if only Florida played Ole Miss in Texas.
head-to-head. We would know if they're the better team. Well, Jesse, Florida did play Ole Miss.
Florida did play Texas. And guess what happened? They beat both of them. Noah's contention is,
obviously, why is Florida behind a couple of teams they already played head-to-head? But Jesse,
you know what? I couldn't help but notice he didn't finish the thought. Maybe we cut the tweet
off is what happened. Because surely Noah went on to say, shouldn't Missouri be ahead of Florida,
right? Because Missouri's got the same record, and Missouri smoked Florida. And I've got Missouri
all the way down at 21, and I've got Florida all the way up at 15. Surely Noah had a problem with
that. You're shaking your head no. No, you're saying that was the end of the tweet? You're
saying Noah only conditionally pointed out head-to-head, Noah with a Gator logo in his profile
there, only pointed out the head-to-head?
That were convenient to his argument? So it's almost like you can't just fully lean on head-to-head
here. Because if you do, you'll just tie yourself in a pretzel intellectually. It's almost like you,
at this point in the season, have to acknowledge head-to-head, but also take into account other
factors. I'm just thinking out loud. Next, by the way, yes, I acknowledge the head-to-heads.
I also acknowledge there's a little bit more here. Like Florida got blown out twice. Those other two
teams, that hasn't happened to them. But there, yeah, obviously there was a blowout, but there's
a blowout with Ole Miss and they got blown out by the Florida team that you're pointing out. I get
all that, but if we're going to go down that route, we got to go further down that route. And the next
mailbox down that route is, well, Missouri blew Florida out. So what do we do with that? We just
take it all into account. They are ingredients we throw into the blender. It's not the totality of
the blender. It's a good quote. Probably not t-shirt worthy, you know, because confusion,
but a good quote nonetheless. Next up, it is that time of week.
I don't even know if
anything to do with our weekly Notre Dame rage portion of the show. Jack said,
how does Notre Dame with a single top 25 win, that win being against number 25 and a loss to the
number eight, man, this is a long sentence, and a loss to the number eight team still sit in the top
10. Here's what we have here. It's really a sight to behold. The AP poll has Notre Dame number two
this week. I got Notre Dame number nine,
and I still got people coming at me saying Notre Dame's overranked. At what point have we just lost
control as a society? I feel like I have accurately weighted down Notre Dame's resume for the lack of
high quality wins that you're looking for. Like I feel all that is measured here. That's why they're
not top five. But there's also the reality that Notre Dame's a really good team and Notre Dame
has beaten some really good teams. You can't just flippantly say, oh, they beat Wisconsin. No,
they drug Wisconsin. They could have done whatever they wanted against Wisconsin,
who is now number 25. Yes. Yes, that is reality. Notre Dame is a good team. I've said before with
them, and I'll say again, I take into account resume. There are some teams, and this is
hypocritical, but this is my process on rankings. I don't do this in power ratings, but in rankings,
I hypocritically use the eyeball test selectively with teams like Notre Dame. I would not do this
if I were a playoff committee member at the end of the year. It would just be resume and resume
alone. But during the season when we're ranking teams, sometimes if I got a Notre Dame team that
I just think is loaded and their schedule is not all that, I'll put them at number nine.
To me, that's low, actually. The AP would say that's low.
So you can't win. Where am I supposed to put them? Was that Jack or Jack was the last one?
Whoever, look, could be any one of you. There are thousands of Notre Dame haters who bang on
the door of Pate State every day. Even as inside our walls, we fight claims of Notre Dame haterism.
And I want to ask them through the peephole, of course, I want to just kind of
open the mail slot and say, where should they be ranked? I don't know. Next up, Andrew,
says Alabama should not be in front of Tennessee, period. But then he continues.
We didn't lose to Carolina from being bad. We lost because of unfortunate penalties.
So I just got off the phone with an Alabama fan.
And that Alabama fan says they didn't lose to Georgia because they're bad. They lost to Georgia
because of unfortunate penalties. What am I supposed to do with that? What am I supposed to
do with any team telling me they lost because of conditions that they're not willing to apply
broadly and only selectively? That's kind of like when someone has seven games on their resume that
have been one possession outcomes, and they've won five of them, but they've lost two of them.
And they say, boy, we're seven points away from being undefeated. Yes, but you're like nine points
away from being a three or four loss team. Do you not think Tennessee has gotten the benefit of any
call this year? I can't apply criteria like that. I can't do that. I can't do it with Bama. I can't
do it with Tennessee. So make your own poll. I don't know what to tell you. This is all for fun
anyway. You might want to go make your own poll. Someone asked what the biggest reach is
in Knox, actually. So what do you think your biggest reach is this week?
I am willing to acknowledge that maybe, possibly, somewhat, Houston dropped too far.
I slapped the table for Houston last week. I pounded the table for Houston last week.
And they hurt me. They did not back my words up. They went to Utah. I felt good the whole time.
They lost it. And Jesse, I'm not perfect. I'm human. And I think maybe we bumped Houston a
little bit too low because there sits Oregon State. And who else is above them? There was
one other team that was above them that, yeah, Oklahoma State, they already beat them too.
It's not the best of looks. 22 and 23 have both been defeated by number 26. Houston's 26,
by the way. I think maybe if Houston just kind of sits in the corner for a little bit,
a little while, they may just get bumped back up. Maybe. It's not an apology. It's just an
acknowledgement. Oh, man. I dropped my hometown post-it. Hold on. I can still read it. They are
watching us. Hold on. They're watching us in Beaumont, Texas, Davenport, Iowa, and Akron, Ohio.
It is so hard to read my handwriting. You have no idea.
The struggle. Let's continue. Did you see this thing about the G6 playoff? So on three earlier
today, put this tweet out. According to Brett McMurphy and Pete Nacos trophy, that's how his
name's listed. I don't know. Take it up with his parents. It said, new, nearly two-thirds of group
of six head coaches, 40 of 61, favor a separate playoff outside the CFP, according to a survey by
Brett McMurphy and Pete Nacos.
According to a G6 coach, quote, there's no ability for any of us to realistically win the CFP
national title. That's the truth, unquote. Now, within this piece, I should note, before I give
you my reaction, that the whole condition to all this was they support a separate playoff
if they also have access to the main playoff. So there's that. Okay. So we're not talking about,
you know, them totally separating off like a floating island, and then they just,
drift off into the ocean. They're not, they're not talking about that. Maybe like a little bridge
that they could cross at any given time, but they hang out on their island over there and
they have their own playoff. And then I guess the, the P4 plus Notre Dame has its own playoff.
Anyway, as you know, if you watch the show, I've advocated, I've advocated for a G6 playoff for
quite a while. In terms of pure logic, it makes sense, but I want you to hold on just a second
because there are layers to this. I had many buddies of mine hit me up today,
they sent me that, that tweet, that story. And they said, bro, you called this, listen to a man,
they agree with you. It's like, uh, it's like I should be taking a victory lap or something like
that. I didn't really feel that way. So for a long time, I've technically supported the concept of a
G6 playoff, but that's only because I think it's insane that we pretend 138 teams play the same
caliber of sport, but that is purely in terms of a logical vacuum. Like if we just, if we just,
put horse racing blinders on and we don't pay attention to any of the context and we don't
acknowledge any of the movements and mechanisms that got us to where we are now, we just look at
the here and now, well, yes, that is reality to me. That's how I see the world. But here's the
thing. It's impossible to ignore everything on the periphery. For example, right now,
there's never been a bigger divide between the haves and the have nots. There's never been a
difference between the top of power for college football and the G6. Why is that? It didn't just
magically evolve that way or devolve that way. There was a coordinated effort.
to move the sport this direction, or move the sport that direction.
There's no one bad guy.
In fact, you may not even care about this, but if you don't like it,
then there would be bad guys, and there would be several bad guys.
It's really hard for me to look at their efforts pay off
in accomplishing what they wanted to accomplish,
and then me advocate for something that reflects the current state of the sport
that's right in line with their goal all along.
I'm not particularly fond of the worldview that those people have for this sport.
Therefore, even though a G6 playoff makes total logical sense to me,
it's almost like watching a person you don't like benefit from a decision that you make.
You're kind of like, man, on one hand, I want to make this decision,
but I don't want to give this person the satisfaction.
That's kind of the place I find myself in.
I don't know how we would accomplish this in an eight-minute segment,
but if we did a whole show on it, I could lay it out further.
In my perfect world, the more utopian college football commissionership type world,
I'd have a G6 playoff, 1,000%.
But I would also have a promotion relegation mechanism.
I would also have no mega-conferences,
so we would have already reworked the whole conference landscape
to where there's no more than 10 per conference,
and we don't have ridiculous imbalances.
That's the strength of schedule.
But also, I would never support a G6 playoff proposal
without a full subsidization mechanism
because I have to have a free flow financially,
sort of an umbilical cord, if you want to call it that,
to where they don't get cut off because it's unnecessary.
And I want to be very careful not to advocate for an idea,
even though it makes logical competitive sense,
that in its follow-through completely cuts off the lifeblood
of programs that have every right to exist.
And not just exist, like thrive, have an opportunity to thrive.
So it's very hard for me to talk about this
the more nuance you understand about the way this sport works
because it's not as simple as looking at everything from 50,000 feet.
You've got to get on the ground for this one.
And when you get on the ground, you also realize you're not the only one,
who realizes Memphis is not going to win a national title
or UTSA is not going to make a run through the playoff
and beat four teams, the likes of which you would need to do to win the playoff.
Everybody kind of gets that.
The difference is them having access to that
is also a means to subsidize whatever else it is
that they want to do as a program.
So I saw the tweet.
I know it makes sense, guys.
I think.
I think.
I think it makes sense.
But at the same time, there's a whole other non-competitive conversation piece
that's attached to it.
At the end of the day, it should really come down to what fans want.
And the reason I have not beat this drum louder
is because even though it makes sense to me,
the G6 fans we hear from do not want any part of it.
So I listen to that and I say, all right, well, I'm not going to push it.
Because I'm cool either way.
It's not like I'm living or dying based on whether the G6 is included at the playoff table.
I didn't get my way on playoff anyway.
They're already expanding it to 24 anyway, so I don't care.
I've always looked at it and I've thought to myself,
if I were a hardcore fan of a G6 program,
I've just always thought I would want access to a tournament I've got a shot at winning.
But Jesse, overwhelmingly, the G6 fans we hear from say,
no, we don't think like that.
Because if you do that, then you're acknowledging that we're second class.
But look, I've always been real about this.
The G6 level of football is second class to the major FBS level.
That's just obvious.
It's like common sense.
So I've always thought, let's just acknowledge the obvious
and let's set up a structure to play for a trophy we could actually win.
But if you don't feel that way, I'm not pushing it.
That's why I haven't pushed it more.
I was a little surprised when I saw that headline,
a little less surprised when I dove into the story
and realized that it was a good thing.
And I realized, oh, they still want access to the playoff.
They're just saying for those who don't make the playoff,
we kind of want a separate tournament.
That makes sense a little bit more.
Don't know if it'll happen.
Jesse, do you know what I pulled up in today?
I pulled up in a Ram.
Proudly pulled up in a Ram.
You could too.
Just like that.
Just like that.
There it goes.
Again, you're free to listen on podcast.
You miss it.
There's an incredible Ram truck animation on the bottom of the screen
if all you're doing is listening to the podcast.
Nothing stops college football.
Nothing stops a Ram.
The real tailgate MVP, as we like to call it around here.
So a lot of you are going to be on the road this weekend.
And you're not pulling up to the game and walking straight in, obviously.
You're hanging out.
You're tailgating.
You're getting the vibes.
You are participating in what we get to do, oh man,
maybe half a dozen, seven times per year.
Eight.
If you go to every home game, it's a beautiful thing.
It's more beautiful with Ram.
The Ram 1500, by the way, America's most dependable full-size truck.
That according to not just me, but me and JD.
JD who?
Yeah, JD Power & Associates.
It's a big deal, Jesse.
In the truck community, it's a big deal.
10-year, 100,000-mile, powertrain-limited warranty.
Look, if you're already going to do it, if you're already going to do college football,
do college football with a Ram.

an alarming amount of facts about millage
Georgia. Beautiful this time of year. Good foliage in Milledgeville. Mississippi State is the answer.
Mississippi State fans have to feel haunted this year. We are in week nine. It feels like an
eternity ago when people were talking about Kamario Taylor for Heisman and Mississippi State
as a playoff contender. Like seriously, think about how long ago that is. And it's only a month,
but it's been a month of L's. And it's been a month without Kamario Taylor.
And the Missouri game, I mean, they had that trip to South Carolina. There was a three-week
stretch. They beat Minnesota on the road. They beat South Carolina on the road. That's when
people really started to wake up. And then they beat Missouri at home. And that was the last time
Kamario Taylor was healthy. He played against Alabama, but he was not 100%. And then he was
done. He didn't play against LSU. He played one series, I think, against Oklahoma. He's done for
the year. And every season, he's done for the year. Everything goes up in smoke. And it's like, I don't mind seeing Brandon Walker suffer. I just
wish he was suffering for normal reasons, not Mississippi State-related reasons. I would say
them. Penn State, I mean, my goodness. Like Matt Campbell, I got full confidence in Matt Campbell.
I think he'll get it right eventually. But there was hope that he'd have it ready to go in year
one, and it is not. It was, it stumbled out of the gate badly. And they lost to Wisconsin,
and they lost to Northwestern, and they lost to U.S. They just haven't stopped.
They've lost every game since that little three-game stretch at the beginning.
And this was the one team in the Big Ten that could reasonably look at their schedule
and say, boy, if we're even above average, we got a shot. And here's the funny thing, Jesse,
nothing has changed about how you perceived your schedule. If anything, USC and Michigan
probably aren't as good as you thought they may be. Northwestern's a little better. Wisconsin's a
little better. There is no world-beater team on this schedule. So we were right about the Penn
State schedule, just badly misfired on guessing how good this team could be. Florida State
perpetually has been in this position. So the Florida State fan base, they are sitting here
right now three and four. So any hope of anything postseason-related is out the window, and it was
out the window early. So then you start to think, some of you at least, start to think, all right,
hope here is we'll be so bad, they'll have to get rid of Mike Norvell. But that may not be true
either. So what you're left with is checking to see how good the other sports are going to be this
year. Hoop's going to be okay? Men's or women's? I don't care at this point. How's the volleyball
squad? I will say, though, if you're into one-offs, if you're into the whole bowl game scene,
you're going to be okay. But if you're into one-offs, if you're into one-offs, if you're into
one-offs, if you're into one-offs, if you're into one-offs, if you're into one-offs, if you're
not playing this week, get well soon. So we don't like to make light of injury. But it feels like
roughly 37 years ago, they had a choice to make between Will Howard and Avery Johnson. They chose
Avery Johnson. Ohio State won a national championship with Will Howard. Avery Johnson is
still there, and they are still not winning. Now, they hired Colin Klein. This is year one for him.
So we will obviously give Colin
Klein time. But it's got to feel weird to watch the decision get made. I remember vividly. It was
one of the early sort of portal quarterback choosings, if you will. And it was very obvious
they banked their future on Avery Johnson. And that was throwing up the deuces to Will Howard.
And he says, OK, I'll just go to Ohio State. Nice little backup option there. If I can't make it in
Columbus, Ohio. Maybe I can make it in Columbus, Ohio. And he did. And Avery Johnson's still there,
and they still hadn't won anything. And Oregon. Hopefully this is a one-year thing. But this was
supposed to be a national championship-caliber team this year. And they were not that. Jesse?
Best team in Oregon? Yeah. Are they the best team in Oregon? Would we like to start a debate?
Current best team in Oregon?
Trailblazers. Probably Trailblazers.
So the Dante Moore injury. But even before that, the Oklahoma State loss. Really, even before that,
the close game against Boise. Then the Oklahoma State loss. Dare I say, the high point of the
year has been the Portland State game. I do dare say that. I would say USC was the one that fooled
everybody. Because USC is when Dante goes down, Dylan Raiola comes in, and the most inexplicable
three-quarters of football of the year shines against USC. And it completely implodes like a
dying star the rest of the way. They did beat Nebraska. But this is a 4-3 team. And they've got
Chip Kelly coming to town this weekend. They are a three-and-a-half point favorite at home against
Northwestern. Had I told you that in August, what would you think had happened? You would actually
think exactly what has happened probably transpired. And that is offensive line. They should have gone
heavier portal. The coordinator elevations didn't work out. And quarterback injury. And that is
exactly what's happened to Oregon. So there you go. Those are haunted teams. Certified haunted.
There is certified Sat Team 6 merchandise at the Pate State store right now. Sat Team 6, I need to
warn you, although this technically is free for anybody in the public to purchase, don't be purchasing this.
If you're not serious, if you have ever tried to give the counter-argument to fall Saturday
weddings, don't bother with these shirts. If you've ever said, that's okay, bro. I can go
apple picking in the morning on Saturday. I'll still catch the later games. Don't be buying these
shirts. These are unapologetically, we're really serious about Saturday. We care about college
football more than most other things. Not all, but most other things in life. And we don't care if it
and this shirt is not for them. Sat Team 6 also has some really, really good logos on their shirts. So

I walk in.
Mind of my own business, Mitch. I walk in. Excited to do the show. And what does Jesse say?
Mr. Ray of Sunshine in there. Quote, I still haven't seen this segment win any awards.
Like all the awards get handed out at the end of the year, Jesse, this is a future award-winning
segment. Of course, it hasn't won an award yet. We haven't done this segment for an entire year.
I need to take a sip of water. Just hold on a second. I'm back.
The future award-winning Week 9 Pate State Viewer's Guide. Guys, this is not the best
week of the season. Let's just all be real with ourselves. We all know what's coming next week.
We all know we've got like three weeks worth of big games next week. I don't know that I've seen
a lineup like next Saturday in a while. But these are the weekends we separate ourselves.
And in the early window, on our main screen, I think we've got to go Arizona at Texas Tech.
11 a.m. kickoff in Lubbock.
If they had natural grass out there, there would still be dew on the ground when they
kick this ball off. This is a big-time game. In fact, the Big 12, I think, could steal
the show on this Saturday. So I think that's our main screen on ESPN. Our secondary screen,
watch it while you can, because this game may be over in under two hours, 45 minutes.
Wisconsin at Iowa. That's big noon kickoff.
Will Joel Klatt yawn in his microphone during this game? Yes or no? Yes. Mitch thinks yes.
Okay. All right. That's a good point.
Prop bet? I'm going to go minus 165, no. But still, the odds are almost even that Klatt will
yawn in his mic at least once. And he's a professional. So if he falls to the yawn,
then any of us would have fallen to the yawn. Important game there, though.
Hey, Notre Dame plays at noon on ABC. They play against Navy.
I've never done a hot take on the show. Tell me if this sounds like a hot take.
I think Notre Dame playing Navy,
is the third most important Notre Dame game in this window. Because I think Notre Dame's
going to handle Navy. I'm not worried about that. They're a 30 and a half point favorite.
I believe SMU at Syracuse and Wisconsin at Iowa are probably going to be more important for Notre
Dame on this particular Saturday than their own game. Because Notre Dame needs strength of
schedule help. And Wisconsin beating Iowa would be a really big deal. Because if they don't beat
Iowa, they're going to fall out of rankings.
And Notre Dame will have, quote unquote, no ranked wins. And also,
SMU is only a nine and a half point favorite against Syracuse. And Notre Dame needs SMU to
keep winning. There is a chance, chance, that if one or both of those teams lose here,
you're looking at Notre Dame's schedule the rest of the way saying they've got one ranked
opponent left. That's Miami. And if they lose that game, what else are they hanging their hat on?
So that's something to watch. Mid-afternoon window,
main screen. Of course, it's the Invesco QQQ Atlanta Gridiron Classic. What else would it be?
And this could be one of the best Invesco QQQ Atlanta Gridiron Classics that we've seen in a
long time. Between Florida and Georgia, that is a 330 game on ABC. Georgia, an 11 and a half point
favorite right now. Maybe Georgia pulls away with the game. More than likely, it's a close game.
We got to monitor that one on the main screen, while on the second screen, the second leg of,
Big 12 Saturday Takeover, not trademarked, is featured at 345 Eastern on ESPN. That's Utah at
Cincinnati. That has game of the day potential to me. To me. And it could be following early game
of the day potential from the Big 12 out in Lubbock. Your upset spots in this window,
Minnesota's at Indiana. The line's 20 and a half. That's the 330 CBS game. Maybe, maybe not.
Arizona State's at Brigham Young. This is the week before the Holy War. Remember that. Arizona
State's like a two plus touchdown underdog. Brigham Young should take care of business.
You got to keep an eye on the quad box to make sure they are taking care of business. And
we're headed to Winston-Salem, Virginia, Wake Forest. That's a 345 kick on ESPN2.
The ACC picture. You're asking, is it a one bid league? Is it a two bid league?
You got to watch Wake Forest the rest of the way. Because I would say them,
maybe SMU right now, like they are that conference's best shot at having a two bid
situation. Also on Peacock, 330, Jesse, if you're not doing anything, Chip Kelly heading back to
Eugene. Do you remember the last time Chip Kelly was in Eugene? I do. It was when he was the head
coach of UCLA. And I was standing in the tunnel. And he walked by me and whispered a quote from
A River Runs Through It in my ear. And I had never met Chip Kelly in person.
Up until that point. And it was one of the most impactful moments of my life.
I don't know who he's going to whisper in the ear of this week on the way to the field,
but he's a three and a half point dog at Oregon. And we got to pay attention to that one.
Prime time window here. Before we go full sundown at 415 Eastern on SEC Network,
the conclusion of Cocktober comes to Norman, Oklahoma. Don't know why I covered the mouth.
Maybe for effect. South Carolina is in a big letdown spot.
They are going to Oklahoma. I believe they're a four and a half point dog.
Yes. Confirmed on the monitor over here that you can't see. They're a four and a half point dog to
Oklahoma. If South Carolina wins the game, people are going to start to talk because people are
going to start to all of a sudden realize, oh, whoa, Georgia still got to play them. They're hot.
Also, South Carolina is only a three loss team. Could it happen? But they got to win the game
first. As they have been doing. They've got to win the game first. They're on a little bit of a Cocktober streak right now. Don't doubt it. Main screen in the
prime time window. It's Ohio State, USC. That's the 730 NBC game. On the second screen, we got
Miami at North Carolina. That's on ABC at 730. Chances are Miami runs the score up, but we got
to make sure. Also, there are other games like 730 on ESPN. Make sure Texas gets out of the block
strong against a Camario.
Mississippi State. I also think Big Ten Network bears a little bit of attention at eight o'clock
Eastern. Washington's playing Nebraska. Nebraska off a bye week. Last time we saw them was the
Oregon game, right, Jesse? We have not seen them since then. Nebraska still got a lot to play for
here, but they got to get hot. They got to come out of the bye week hot. It's the blackout game
too, I think. And then in the late, late window, 11 o'clock on USA.
That's the old time slot for LeFemme Nikita after Monday Night Raw, way back in the day.
Check your dad's VHS tapes. He probably recorded over it. So right now, Oregon State is in the
playoff mix. And Oregon State is a five and a half point favorite on the road at Fresno State.
Keep an eye on that. And Friday night, I don't know what to tell you here in terms of the quality
of the slate. I do think we have a lot of good games. I think we have a lot of good games. I think we're going to end up
having two Ramen Noodle Express games out of these three. We got one already in Tulane. I'll give you
the other in a second. Here is our conundrum. I cannot do Friday Night Lions early. I've got to
do it really late. Now, here's the problem. As you can see on the screen, the only late game on
Friday night is Kent State at Sacramento State. Outside of Prez and parents of players, I don't
know many people who have played in the past. I don't know many people who have played in the
past. I don't know many people who are going to
be tuned into this game. But our tradition for Friday Night Lions is we do Friday Night Lions at
halftime of a Friday night game. And since I can't do the early games, it brings me no joy. But I have
to inform you, we are going to crank up Friday Night Lions at halftime of Kent State Sacramento
State. So for the dozens of you that are still going to be with us and awake, Instagram live
halftime of Kent State Sacramento State. If we hit a thousand concurrent views, I may just start
giving cash away in the live chat. I don't even know if we can do that. But if you're tuned into
this one, you are with us for life. You are branded for life if you're hanging around for that one.
Quick trip. Roadsides all over the country. You're on the road. You need gas. You need crispy snacks.
You may need both.
In fact, history says you're going to need both at some point. Fuel and food. That's what we do.
That's not their slogan. I just made that up. But quick trip has been with us for a long time.
And I know that a lot of you don't need to hear this, but I am again going to tell you,
because I always get feedback from our partners. We really appreciate how engaged our audience is
in taking ownership of the show and patronizing the few partners that we have. We don't load the
show up. I know some of you have done that. I know some of you
think we do. Trust me, we don't. We use the word no way more often than we use the word yes when
it comes to partnerships. Quick trip, though, always with us. And the comment is always the
fan base. The audience base is very engaged. So I don't really feel like I have to give a whole lot
of instruction at this point. Like you need fuel. Go there. You need cold brew on tap. Go there.
You don't need any of that. Just pull in the parking lot and take a picture anyway. They love
it all. We have a very important question here.
before we get to a Ramen Noodle Express
scoot on out of here for the weekend. Kyle is in Provo, Utah, and he has been targeted by the
substance of the question he's about to ask. He said, when you become commissioner, can you outlaw
big games from kicking off early? Like the Holy War is actually kicking off at 10 a.m. local time.
Look, it's ridiculous that Utah and Brigham Young are kicking off at 10 a.m. next week.
Also, don't look past Arizona State this week. It sounds like there was a little bit of a look
ahead in that question, so don't look past them. Anyway, yes, it's ridiculous. Yes, I would love to
do something about this, but cannot. So as far as the Holy War is concerned, and I'm especially
saying that to the group of people who don't want us to call it the Holy War or the Red River
Shootout or the world's largest outdoor cocktail party, to all of those people, there's a Venn
diagram that's nearly a perfect circle that is those folks and the folks that are responsible
for this being a 10 a.m. kickoff.
To you, I say, when I'm commissioner, I will flex this game to a more proper window, okay? So this
is the pen hitting the table on that. I don't agree with this. Now, Bradley put the question
back up for a second, if you will. Absent the context of the Holy War, he said, can you outlaw
big games from kicking off early? No.
No, I cannot. I cannot because I don't think it's the worst thing in the world.
The Holy War should not be a 10 a.m. local time kickoff. Yes, changes are needed. Ohio State
should not be playing every big home game in the history of its program at noon. Changes are needed.
However, wholesale wiping out big games from kicking off before 7 p.m. is not something that's
on my platform as commissioner. We need to have a little conversation about the sun around here.
God's light. I love it. I get as much of it as I can. First thing we do when we walk in the office,
if the glare is not too bad in Jesse's eyes, is we raise the blinds so we can have natural sunlight.
We get enough of this fluorescent crap at night. Sun is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a very good
thing. My favorite time slot is 3.30 Eastern, all things considered. Now, I have long since
documented on this show. I understand as future commissioner,
I cannot merely wave a wand and run this sport based solely on my personal preferences.
Some you disagree on. And by you, I mean pretty much everyone. So I can clearly tell I'm in the
minority on this. I've always loved a noon kickoff, especially if I'm going to the game,
because I can get home early. Most of you don't care about that. Most of you don't care about my
travel schedule. Most of you who are season ticket holders or just ticket holders in general,
you would much prefer a primetime kickoff.
You know it gives you all day to tailgate. You know that it gives you a supercharged primetime
environment. Some of you just prefer games under the lights instead of natural light.
I guess with me, it's a personal preference thing in that I've always loved college football games
being played during the day. Granted, 10 a.m. is too early, but being played during the day,
that's why I don't mind big noon kickoff. I just think with the big noon kickoff concept,
because of the way the Big Ten is
structured, Ohio State just always gets the short end of the stick. Like, Ohio State never gets big
night games at home, because there aren't five other Ohio States in the Big Ten from which to
choose. So big noon always goes to Columbus anytime they can. So that's bad. It's hard,
man. When you're trying to get high school guys to come to those games,
and they're playing on Friday nights, like there are high school players kicking off 16 hours before
the Ohio State game kicks off the next day, and they're supposed to play their game, go sleep,
and then travel to your game. It's very hard to do. So I love noon games, but I would make some
changes, but I cannot outlaw these in their entirety. The reason I love 3.30, look at the
Tennessee games the last two weeks, right? Where there are two field stormings. Tennessee's on the
good side of one, on the bad side of the other. The games kick off during sunshine, and by the
time they're done, they're going to be on the bad side of the other. So I think that's a good
thing. Sunshine has given away to nighttime, and I always love that about college football. The
first half to three quarters of a game being played in natural light, then you've got the
sunset, then by the time the fourth quarter's happening and you get these big endings,
it's under the stadium lights. I love that. That's college football to me.
FanDuel special wildcard weekend, Jesse. Not like an NFL wildcard weekend, per se. Not like we've
got a FanDuel bracket, and some teams have worked their way in. But over at FanDuel right now,
as you know, it's Halloween weekend. They're going to give you a special wildcard reward.
Jesse, I hear you in my ear. You're saying, what is a wildcard? You should already know.
But I'll tell you, all FanDuel Sportsbook Rewards Club members get a mystery offer.
Yeah. And you make your pick, you flip the card, and you get a reward to use on college football
this weekend. Giving you a little Halloween surprise, if you will, to use for your college
football bets. FanDuel.com slash Josh Pate.

before we get out of here. Now, we're already on Tulane, minus 10 and a half. We're already
on Kansas State, minus one and a half. I'm sticking with that, even without Avery Johnson.
A lot of Avery Johnson in the show tonight. Some say too much. I'm going to add Baylor,
minus two and a half. I love betting games after coaches get fired. Betting teams after coaches
get fired. Look, this is where, if you don't know anything about betting, stay away from betting.
Baylor just fired their head coach, and they are a two and a half point favorite
against the team that just beat Brigham Young.
Again, if it doesn't make sense to you, it's okay to just sit back and let someone else bet this
stuff. But we are going to have a game tonight. We're going to have a game tonight. We're going to
