Happy Halloween, bud. How are we doing? We are about to get into the late night recaps where we had a bananas game in the Big 12. A perhaps impactful win for Lincoln Riley in terms of his own standing with his own fan base. But how are we doing here going live a few minutes early on a Halloween Saturday on the LH6 this time? Still well, man. I feel like it should be a solid show tonight. Like in the next hour of sleep, a lot to cover. Trick or treating was good. Thanks to BYU and to Georgia for scoring those touchdowns right before the half. It's like, all right, let's go. Cool. We got this. We got half time. Let's get around the neighborhood. These games are over. Although Arizona State actually kind of made that a game there in the second half, but we'll get to that. Tom. I mean, there's no way today's show could be worse than today's games. Oh, yeah, this will not be a two hour show. This was no bad Saturdays, but this was, I would say, so far week nine is taking the crown is the weakest Saturday we've had, I think overall, as far as entertainment. That there was some good games, but it was a lot better. But I think that also speaks to some of the quality that we've had in terms of the rhythm of a Saturday, right? Because even the ones that we'd identified as the ones like, hey, it might not be a great Saturday. Those ones even delivered some unexpected results that that had us, you know, bubbling over the top. But hard to bubble over more than what you had in a rain soaked wind. See, it was funny because as the sheets of rain were pouring down in Los Angeles, where I heard it never, ever rains and it's 72 degrees every single day, I was thinking about how last season Lincoln Riley told us it was a big, big 10 kind of style win when they beat Iowa, right? Like, oh, we had to get down. We had to get gritty the sheets of rain are pouring down and Ohio State's coming in there and they're trying to play manball, but they're not coming up with the plays that they need in the short yardage situation. And sometimes even if you don't throw the ball, 30 yards down the field, you can get a 60 yard touchdown. If you're able to deliver it to the kind of playmakers that can go and make plays in open space. USC kind of controls this game. Wired a wire, 30 to 18. Guys, it hits me on two levels. Number one, the Lincoln Riley of it all, as we were discussing how much pressure he was under to deliver a big win, first top five win as USC's head coach for Lincoln Riley. Massive, undeniably, massive. And then also the Ohio State side. First time we've seen Luke Fahey as a starting quarterback. First time the game has started, with Julian saying out there in the sling, you're doing a lot of this number. Yeah, I do it a lot of it. I wouldn't have done that. You know, like doing a lot of the kind of feelings that all of us had or any Ohio State fan had in terms of your thoughts of a team that could win the national championship and now all of the sudden found itself just chasing the game in the Coliseum. Tom, I get a lot of ways to peel this onion. 30 to 18 USC defeats previously number two Ohio State, what were some of the things that stood out to you? I think first my favorite part of the win for USC is that Lincoln Riley does finally get his first top five win at USC, but everybody will be quick to point out. It was against the Ohio State team with a true fact that he was very first career start on the road in the rain. But you know what? Doesn't matter because like three years from now, when you see the stat, like in like the notes and the game notes and just say Lincoln Riley is one in whatever against top five teams. Like well, there was the one and you won't, you probably won't remember. My biggest takeaway from this game is that Mark Bowman rules 'cause that one catch and run he had where he hurled the dude and then broke like 55 tackles and getting those finally knocked out inside the five yard line was awesome. But the second biggest takeaway is a lot of people who Julian say in an apology. 'Cause there was a whole hell of a lot of talk last year where Julian saying it was just a passenger and a great car with a lot of really, really fancy features on it, there was a whole lot of that still going on this year. Things looked a little different without Julian saying. Apparently it's not just as easy as throw the ball in Jeremiah Smith's direction. Apparently you have to be able to actually get the ball there and you have to actually be able to place it accurately and you have to be able to stay in the pocket and not panic every time there's somebody within five yards of you. - Yeah man, like they like credit to USC for getting up off the mat. Like last week was a pathetic effort against Wisconsin. Like you don't get the same version of a team every week, right? Like just as the Gators. Like you got the Bama version of Georgia not the Auburn version. At the same time, Tom's right. Like Fahey, he's a true freshman and he played like it, right? Like it just, I thought like Ohio State did a decent job of scheming stuff open for him and they just, man. Like some of the misses and the happy feet in the pocket and like the drifting and necessarily like, you know, Tom called it out like, man, you don't need to roll left there. Like you've got a pocket just sitting it and, you know, man, look, like they took a shot on St. Clair in the prior class. Very physically talented, very raw. Like, you know, obviously like there is a reason to take a shot on that guy because if he hits sweet, you're winning the natty, but it's pretty clear at this point that he has not hit for them. Maybe he will in the future, kind of a slow burn type thing, but I don't think there's any world in which they thought we're going to have to start Fahey going into this season. And you know, like if this continues and looks like this, they need to get left out of the playoff, right? Because like Kenyan Martin, Jordan Travis, like, okay, like, hey, you left FSU out because you thought the backup wouldn't any good. FSU's backup was better than this, right? Against like obviously like Louisville's defense was a lot better than the USED defense. I think they'll get better. I think they'll probably calm him down some, but this is, it's kind of a red alert, man. This is not good. - Fair, red alert is fair. I'm not ready to have a playoff talk because Oregon, if it keeps looking like this, you can't allow it. - It'll take care of itself, if you can. - Yeah, that's a good point. - Yeah, that's, that's, I was going to say, Oregon, Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan. It'll take care of itself, you know, in any one of those. Hey, great boy. - No, the boy's good. - No, no, no, no, no, great point. This instant reaction show, just like every instant reaction show is brought to you by Madelo. We appreciate Madelo for sponsoring all the instant reaction shows. Regardless of what the day may bring, college football traditions stay alive thanks to Madelo, so you who keep college football traditions alive deserve a Madelo. Like the traditions, a freshman quarterback looking totally overwhelmed on the road against the team with blue chip athletes. Wow, I've never seen that one before. That's a college football tradition that extends beyond NIL portal playoff BCS. Choose whatever area you want. You throw a new starter in on the road against a team with athletes, game might move a little fast for them, and it certainly did for Luke Fahey. - You know his freshman didn't look like freshman? - U-S-C's. - Hmm, well, Mark Bowman. - It hit Bowman, yeah. Mostly hit the play early. Bowman, Bowman overdudes. - Luke at the end with that huge stop and short yardage. Like right after the fumble that they didn't call fumbles they got it, they're trying to snap it fast, and like obviously like he, I don't think they were actually ready to snap it, but like I get doing it, you know? - I've, as I said before, you know, I think, you know, that that Noah Eagle, Todd Blacklatch combos pretty good, you know, and then come sort of the voice of USC football in the 2026 season. But I love, I love the anecdote that Lincoln Riley shared with them. Our freshman finally looks like freshman last week, right? You know, I, he had been so impressed with the way that those guys, and we had complemented those USC freshmen with the way that they had played early and that he felt like in the Wisconsin game, it was the first time they just, they sped, they finally started to show their age, but you know, what's my age again? Yeah, they, they were out there rocking and rolling here tonight. Well, somewhat ironic too, is you would think with Ohio State being on the road with your young quarterback that you would want to run game to like carry you. And Ohio State was actually hitting explosive plays on the ground, which they haven't really done all season long, but they were hitting big runs in this game. And they finished with the what let me see here. 204 yards on the ground at about five yards per, you know, attempt, like so they actually ran the ball decently well. Bo Jackson finished 121 yards. It's just they didn't score touchdowns. Well, the field goals like red zone execution, 100% ends up being in a, in a 12 point for red zone possessions and 12 points. Right. And look, I mean, some of that, yeah, goes away in the red zone, like Fahey's 38 attempts for 123 air yards, like that, that's a lot of dink and dunk, man, like not many good throws. Yeah, I just like the windows shorten in the red zone. So I agree with red alert. I agree with the alarm. We said it'll sort itself out. What is their positive to take away from the Buckeyes performance? Bo Jackson, I thought had his best overall game, although he also dropped up throw that was right in his lap. I mean, they doubt they even dialed up the counter to McEwan and then Fahey missed him. You know, it was just it was, I don't know how many positives there were. Yeah, no, I don't think there's a positive in losing 30 to 18 to a USC team that's looked kind of garbage all year and like that. Yeah. You were number two. You won't be number two. We will discuss later in the show where exactly they fall, but the margins are thin. You've got your second loss. You're going to be right there on the cut line the rest of the way because while I discussed that Oregon, Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan, all offer opportunities for Ohio State to prove that they are worthy. There's also a lot of loosable opportunities. So, you know, we will see what happens as we move ahead for the Buckeyes. Do you want to go to Miami, North Carolina or Indiana's latest overtime adventure? Because one's big 10, one's more recent. I'll just let you choose. School the recent one. Okay. Yeah. Because it was also a little bit of a more fun game. Is that fair? Yeah. Indiana Minnesota was great for like the last couple of minutes, but the first 55 minutes were not fun. Not fun. And in Miami, North Carolina was filled with the lights and amusement and three onside kicks. Who knew you would have three onside kicks in the span of about nine minutes. And for a University of North Carolina football program that famously had a penalty on an onside kick attempt in the ACC championship game against Climpsson back in 2015 to have more not just one, but two penalties on onside kicks at the end of trying to take down the number one team in the country. I'm sure echoed for those who stuck around that I do appreciate as I was sitting here at home, everyone who stuck around at Keenan Stadium. Here Sean McDonough say, a less than full Keenan Stadium, but those who are here are really getting into it. I really appreciated that. What'd you make of the Miami side, the North Carolina side? It was a fun college football game. Number one holds on obviously with the narrow win and avoids the upset. Good game. I thought Billy Edwards played his ass off. I thought Patrino called a really good game. I thought UNC played with good intensity, especially on offense. UNC's defense just really couldn't get stops. Miami got the run game going as well, especially there. Did they score on every drive in second half? I think so. Let's see here. Definitely the first three. They only had what four possessions in second half. The one was to finish it out. They had three actual possessions and they scored three touchdowns on them. Yeah, I felt like UNC. They didn't face a lot of plays in terms of total volume, but it looked like they got worn down a little bit. When Miami's running the ball on you well, then you got to give us some opportunities for Tony and Cooper and those guys and Barcai dropped the one. He's got to catch that. Miami just offensively too much. They took Carolina's best shot, I think, and they survived it. Credit the Carolina for playing really well, I think, but also defensively Miami. All right, man. That's kind of two games in a row against non-Freshman third stringers you faced in Ashton Daniels and Billy Edwards. And neither of those guys are any good. They just put big numbers on you. If you're CJ Carr sitting there next weekend, you're like, oh man, we could drop 40. If you take out into the half possessions, where like they knelt it out in the first half and at the end of the game, each team only had seven possessions in this game. There were two points in one fumble. Everything else ended in points. One field goal, the rest were all touchdowns. There were not a lot of stops in this one. Yeah. And yeah, I'm going to have to push back on your Billy Edwards disrespect. He's a big game Billy now. I've been through for three touchdowns against Notre Dame. He threw for four touchdowns against Miami. That's big game, Billy Edwards. I mean, I, I liked him when he was at Maryland, like running around just taking absolute kill shell. And given Michigan hell in the big house for like a couple quarters and like that's probably the best we've seen in play overall. Yes. And look, they were ready to fry him, right? You know, there were some people like he hasn't pushed the ball down the field, which fair arguments. I'm not, I'm just displaying what the conversation was as you got a little bit closer to should they entertain anybody else that's in that room. I think that he showed tonight why the coaching staff has been pretty committed to having Billy Edwards as the quarterback. Solid performance from him, for sure. The North Carolina effort comes with a lot of what ifs and if we're to have a bigger picture, which is not for the beginning of this podcast, that's going to be some frustrating. The the Clemson Lightning Delay, the Miami game, the Syracuse blown lead, but ultimately the the power of 500, that magnet just pulls you so strong. You know, so four and four is where where Bill Belichick's crew is. Miami continues with its unbeaten start. They are eight no overall hurricanes now head on to Notre Dame. You know, right? Mm-hmm. Notre Dame, I think, will be very well prepared for Miami. I think that yeah, I think I prepared for Miami that they're well prepared. I just one of my big weak nine takeaways is that Notre Dame will be very well prepared for whatever Miami has to offer. I got the sense in the early stages of what was happening at Gillette Stadium. They were on the option. The Notre Dame fighting Irish. Did you guys watch this? I'm going to be very well prepared for this. Okay. Oh, yeah. No, it looks like Notre Dame is going to be very well prepared for Miami. I was like, all right, if this is actually close, I'll watch it in reverse, which is like where you watch the fourth quarter and you go back and watch coaches take real fast, like, okay. But yeah, no, they were, I mean, that was, I don't know how much time we really need to spend on the game. No, no, no, no. I'm really sure it was just because that's the thing is Miami really just needed to win by any margin. The situation that a lot of these teams face this this week where you just need like Ole Miss against Auburn. Oh, win by any margin and just get it to the next game against Georgia, right? Notre Dame. Oh, win by any margin and just get it to the next game against Miami. And Miami did that as well. Notre Dame won by a significant margin when they were able to port on late. I mean, they were able to get those long explosive runs for touchdowns in the second half. They stacked consecutive drives. They weren't allowing Navy to have those quarter-long drives that just eat up clock that have fighting Irish fans, you know, spinning their wheels looking at a clock and scoreboard this way too close. But yeah, Notre Dame fixed things eventually. Tom, would you get out of the early stages of that one? They just, they looked like they were sleepwalking in the first quarter of that game. It's like, oh, oh, I guess we were supposed to play this game. Yeah, they didn't, they did not really seem all that interested in it. And then I feel like once Navy kind of like looked feisty early. Notre Dame kind of said, okay, fine. Then they just put the game away. It was there was nothing to take away from there. They clearly spent most of the week getting ready for Miami. Don't let them dive at your ankles and just don't turn the ball over. That's all we need to do today, boys. Yeah. And anybody get hurt? Somebody got. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We we did. Was it Treyori who got dinged? No, no, no. Bowen. Bowen. Okay. Yes. Somebody did get dinged. I don't know if it's serious, but they did leave the game. But it was, I think the game was kind of in hand at that point. Bowen being hurt. It's not a, it's not a small deal. If he's not a small deal. Yeah. He might be the green dot for them. And I think he might have been in a boot. Notable, notable, much more time to be able to dive into that on the Miami side of this because if Jeremiah Smith and Ohio State are going to be dinged. Hello, high-spin trophy conversation. Maybe this is more of a pun for the review. But dairy and minza Malik, I Tony, I thought that it was kind of more of a Tony game. If I'm going to say a minza game, a Tony game. If I have to pick one as the MVP, just the moments that were there, a couple of those plays for your like, oh my goodness. Final stat line, obviously, he's all are going to help minza because he's able to distribute the ball elsewhere. But you know, what player the game for Miami, where would you award it? I would probably go to Malik, just because like the first touch, Johnny Kyle was pretty sweet. But I would all say, now I might go to the defensive side of the ball. I might say, hey, you know what we haven't had a whole lot of this year? A great past rush. Thank you for getting two sacks, Marquis life foot. Yeah, I thought like, like foot, especially with the force fumble, you know, Scott had a really important like sack earlier. I mean, minza was clean, man. You know, like that first touchdown throw was really nice. I may go minza. You guys want to start like some controversy in the locker room. You got like, if you look at the highs minza right now, they're both the two favorites. But only one of them gets to choose who to throw the ball to. What if Darien starts throwing to Cooper a little bit more? But then Cooper dropped it. But I'm saying, what if you start throwing to Cooper a little more, you kind of depress Malik. I stats a little bit and yours start to look better. I'm just saying. I'll have state wishes they were saying. If they start, yeah, if they start throwing little like flare passes to Mallory, when Tony's open, I'll believe you. Okay. Yeah. If all of a sudden Elijah lost it has a 300% increase in target share, then I'll start believing. Two Mondays from now, and we're doing the upon further review of the Notre Dame Miami. And Danny sitting there with the all 22 of Malik, I Tony waving his arms wide open in the back. And Darien's checking down. We're going to know what's up. And don't forget who told you first. Fair. Hey, market, record it. I'm sure we'll circle back. All right. Coming up on the other side, so found out that Kurt Signetti's favorite candy didn't know Kurt Signetti's favorite candy, but we only found out because they won it over time. What is the panic level for the reigning national champions and more next back here on the Cover 3 podcast? And yes, the Indiana Hoosiers somehow, some way have been able to just take this offense, change the quarterbacks, and just drag this team somehow, some way to still being a top 10 team. Yeah, the Indiana Hoosiers survive against Minnesota. The Gofers give them about the best effort that you could. They tried to put Indiana in the same game that they beat Iowa in. Get back to back 60 yard field goals. Tom, they're juicing the balls. And I mean, yeah, it's disgusting. All right. This isn't like people talk about like college football is different now. And they don't like it. And I'm sorry. The biggest change about this sport that bothers me is the fact that kickers are making 60 yard field goals. Like what happened to the game back to back back to back where my country gone. There's not play by play data that I have that goes back that far, but like I'm pretty sure that you haven't had two 60 yard field goals in a college game since the 70s when you could use a T to kick it. No, they they they had the research had the stat. It is the first time in the FPS era that there have been two 60 yard field goals in the same game. They're usually aren't they haven't been two in a season. And it was like definitely nothing 80s 90s or this century. We don't have like because I've seen a 51 and a 54, especially when the wind is going in the same direction and the kickers able to get it. But this was one going one way, one going the other. And this was also after like Indiana missed 55 field goal attempts. Yeah. Well, one was. Yeah. So many problems on special teams and then for them to make the 60 yarder to force over time. Like on a downed down basis, this game was not really close. No, right. Like any had a doubled up Minnesota's yarded. Well, well, what was it? They the Minnesota finish with 450, 250, yeah. Yeah. Like I mean, but like I said, it's Minnesota doing the game that Minnesota needs. It's like Minnesota putting it to a 13 on third down. So like like they they were explosive that they couldn't actually like a convert down the field. They missed the field goals. You know, the two, the second was late in the game because I had them at one of 11. They very, very late on like some of my final notes of the game. It was all game long. They could not extend drives. So I mean, look, like Minnesota was very lucky to be in this game given how Indiana moved it on them. And then Indiana probably a little bit lucky to hit a 60 yard field. Well, you could also, I guess say the same thing on Minnesota's kid. My panic meter is at zero. I'm not like as far as like for the regular season. Now come playoff time. It's a lot higher. But if you look at who they get to finish out the year with, I'm not worried. I mean, but they they had Minnesota at home and they needed over time into 60 yard field goal to force that here's my thought in a bad way. All right. Can I play an eight straight football games? Can I can I pitch this position to you? So if you drank the cool aid that Kurt Signetti has arrived and we just have to take Indiana seriously as a national title contender as long as he's there. If you drank that cool aid, and I'm not saying anybody here did, but if you believed that this is a huge reality check the last two weeks have been a huge reality check. If you have been a skeptic and a cynic about any of this Kurt Signetti, you're feeling a little validation. You're feeling a little I told you so. And the truth is probably somewhere in between, right? The truth is probably a little bit closer to, oh yeah, as Charles Davis, the great Charles Davis pointed out, bad punt trick play like the defense didn't give up hardly anything in regulation. Like there is very little to be critical of from the Indian defense, which has been playing like one of the best units in the entire country and did for a great portion of this game. The special teams errors were bad. The special teams errors are a concern against anybody, you know, and definitely in the college football playoff. But you're a placed Joshua with Grant Wilson. And I don't know if it's health or a spark. I just I don't know if the Indian offense has answers to be able to get better. Right. We don't know whether it's health or not, but I will say Zach Ostroman was tweeting during the game that, you know, like, Josh was not throwing on the sideline. And, you know, typically like backup quarterbacks will be throwing just to stay warm. And they were saying after he was benched, he was not throwing, which leads them to believe it's, it's an injury. I mean, he went on the sideline and on the field at for froze two weeks in a row. And we talk about this like, you can be hurt, like generally hurt, but not actually be in question as to whether you're going to play. So you're not on the injury, injury report. But like, it's very clear. He's hurt. People don't win like that. Like you didn't do that at TCU, didn't do that early in the season. Like, there's something wrong with his arm. It's also possible he's wincing at the throw. That's true. Like he's like, yeah, I missed that one quite a bit. But it's yeah. See, that's why I'm still kind of worried because Jim, you said like the last two games have been a reality check. I think it's been the last five or four. Like Nebraska on the road, you were down double digits in the fourth quarter. You needed, you know, to come back and win that game, you lost to Ohio State. You were, you nearly lost to Michigan, you nearly lost to Minnesota. This team's been in way too many dog fights for a team that is supposed to be like a national title contender. And it's not like the kind of dog fights where you could say Texas has been in a lot of dog fights, but Texas has been in them with teams that will probably be in the playoff with it. Indiana's typically been in dog fights with teams that probably aren't going to be in the college football playoff. Yeah. You what, but what did you see from the Hoosiers that backs up that confidence? Mainly because they're schedule, man. Like I think I still think they're the best team in the big 10 by a lot. Like that defense is still awesome. You get up to 15. One of it was on a trick play like that. That's the unit in this league that I have the most confidence in, like by far, you know, like do I have confidence in USC to go on the road and give them a game? Absolutely not. It's looking right as USC like they're they were celebrating beating Penn State on the road. They just got a top five win. Sure. Yeah. At home. Right? Like I, But they might be playing Indiana with their backup quarterback just like they were playing Ohio State with their backup quarterback. I just see this as a thing like I get it. The schedule looking at the rest at USC at Washington Purdue. You could sit there and say, well, they're going to be highly favorite in those games. They were favored by 21 today, named he did overtime in a 60 yard field goal. And a lot of that was self, you know, self self inflicted wounds. Like I saw a game on paper at some point tweeted like, you know, the EPA from this game. There was a nine point difference just in special teams EPA in this game insane. Think of how many times you've ever seen that before. Well, that's yeah, that changed. I'm sure with the 60 yard field goals, but still so I look at this Indiana team. And to me, it's like I've been spending all year saying like I was saying this week, I think this is the get right game. I don't think Minnesota can go there and really do the same kind of stuff. They do to Iowa. They do to somebody else. And it's, you know, they've they're coming off a rivalry win. I, I expected Minnesota to be flat. I thought Indiana was going to look good and just kind of have the best game we've seen them having a while. I think I got to stop convincing myself that Indiana is going to look better. I think this is just who they are. I thought it like the reason I three star Minnesota was like Indiana looked tired to me. Like I think they're limping to their by week. They played eight straight games. You got to hurt quarterback. Yeah. You know, like, yeah, I really want to see what they look after the by week. But I'm pretty confident the defense will so like continue to be nails. Yeah, I kind of like Kent State playing nine games and nine weeks and just getting hammered by Sacramento State out there at Sacramento on a Friday night. Man. Hornets buzz up. Let's go. So man, I didn't sprinkle that. I know. Kent State is a touchdown favorite on the road. A touchdown favorite in their ninth game in nine weeks. Absolutely blew that. Come on, I see that coming from a mile away. Let's go. Now let's take, before we take, we, we are going to get a good analysis of what I do think was some of the most interesting football probably today, which might have come from the big 12 conference. But before we do, we thought for a second, if Miami was going to get upset that we were going to have a number one team in the country and that team that potentially could have taken over that spot, especially with Ohio State losing was the Georgia Bulldogs playing in the world's largest indoor cocktail party against Florida. They took a couple of actually three to be specific, three first half Florida turnovers, turned them into 17 points and just kind of sat on it the rest of the way. John Someral goes with a quarterback change in the middle of this game to put Tramel Jones in for Aaron Phylo and nothing seems to work. All of the news operation goes on alert for Florida's great streak of scoring points in games. Hooray. It continues Gator's shop, shop. You remember the last one that they almost didn't argue in the last Vegas Bowl. Yes. It's the saddest field goal ever kicked. That sad field goal showed us about Billy Napier losing on a Thursday night as James Madison ends up falling again. But for the Georgia side of this, for the Florida side of this, but what were some of the big takeaways? I mean, look, with Georgia's defense, any game is winnable. With the way that passing office look today, any game is loosable, right? Like that was, that was like eyes bleed bad from UGA passing the ball, but they didn't need it, right? Like you said, they sat on it, they ran the ball. I was like, incredibly efficiently, but like stubbornly and somewhat effectively. And again, they didn't need it because like their defense just whipped Florida. That was like the, that was the UGA defense that you saw come out against Bama against like Oklahoma, you know, like, and again, pad level. Like I don't think they tried hard against Auburn. I don't think they took Auburn very seriously. I thought their effort in that game was poor. Kirby's in their ear for two weeks on the microphone, like we'll walk around a prax field. Everybody's thinking, hear it all week throughout Athens, like, you know, echoing throughout the town. Elias! Elias! Yeah, like I think you got like an A level effort from, from Georgia's defense. And that's going to be hard for you have to handle. Also, UGA looked very prepared for everything Florida was going to do, which they just like, you kind of just saw Florida kind of have to empty the clip. Not all that effectively it might add against Texas, which runs, Will Must-Champ's defense, which is very, very similar to what Georgia runs just two weeks ago in Austin. Yep. Yeah, I mean, this game was over quick. Like I didn't watch a second of this game in a second half. Like after they returned that fumble, the 66-yard fumble returned to go put 24-nothing. I was like, all right, cool. I'm done. Yeah. I didn't watch any of this game after that. I was like, it's done. A lot of, a lot of compliments for Buster Faulkner who, uh, who was on the offensive staff from multiple national championships, crazy that Kirby Smart would have been prepared for Buster Faulkner. You know, I mean, I just like, you want to talk about past the chalk. It's like Buster is on Kirby staff, right? Then he goes to Georgia Tech, then he tortures Kirby in a bunch of these Black Friday games. And with all that tape and an extra week of prep, it's crazy. Um, yeah, Braille and Wilson, Chris Cole, I mean, we're just, we're talking about some of the best linebackers in the entire country. And when you see them, be able to take all of the, all the window dressing, all of the motion, all the creativity that comes with this Florida offense, diagnose it, read it and react. I mean, it truly was the, the memory of those Georgia linebackers calling out the plays for Michigan in that college football playoff semifinal, right? You know, when they're, they're just like, oh, got it. Like, my name is Nolan Wilson, and I've been spending the last two weeks studying you. And I know exactly what you're going to do right here. So, um, Bulldogs are on it. Those receivers, five, eleven, thirteen targets for 57 yards, I told Gunners to stud this year. That continues to be a question for them, like against anybody who's actually decent. I'm not going to overreact to the statistics because of the way that the competitive nature of this game went. They do play Ole Miss, and it is disrespectful to the gators and disrespectful to the rivalry, but I do think Georgia probably could pack it in and just go to the spring game playbook. And I think that they're happy that they can be disrespects for the Florida and pack it in in the second half. Yeah. I think that's like the ideal situation. Yeah. That 100% speaking of, I don't have any big picture stuff Ole Miss did something that not everybody did on this Saturday. One easy. Took care of business. Yeah. Well, I mean, it was close for a while. Yeah. They scored the final 28 points to, like, to blow this thing open. Okay. So, at 17-9, I think, or somewhere around there, Auburn had kind of one of those, got to have it moments, and then Ole Miss's answer, and then stop, and then answer, and then they were just gone after that. I don't think Ole Miss played the cleanest game, but buddy Trinidad Chamble has just made some throws that so clearly exhibit that even though that Charlie West Jr.s at LSU, and John David Baker came over from ECU, there's so much confidence that has been given to him to be able to go and make the plays that are off schedule, and his arm is there. He is truly, like, you cannot make a list of five quarterbacks in college football that are more impactful than Trinidad Chamble is. He's just been awesome, all season long, and there were some moments, because his completion percentage isn't up there with Daryian Mensa, right? Daryian Mensa goes out there and just throws these, like, robot video game numbers. Trinidad will have some misses, but he also has some throws that'll knock you off your feet. Were you guys impressed by Will Eccles filling in for C'mon Lacey? On the run, on the big, on the bruising play, this old miss have a two-way player now. Yeah, Eccles, Iran for a touchdown. Yeah. Go line score. They've been holding a trap, the center, they've, they've held the big, they've held the big boy, the big boy touchdowns in there for a little bit, but the eligible, yeah, eligible receiver, creative stuff, through and through, without it out. Love a big boy touchdown. Michael Stoden. Oh. I love to see Michael in the chat after a big Ole Miss win. Okay. Coming up on the other side, we head to the big 12 corner where Tommy Castellanos has given new life to the Red Raiders playoff hopes Utah did what it needed to do and smash the upside alert. All that and more. Hi, I'm Tony DeCouple and as anchor of the CBS evening news, I am filled with endless curiosity about our world and our society. Maybe you are too. My new podcast is called Great Question. It's an effort to capture that curiosity and to answer the question you haven't heard a satisfying answer to, or maybe haven't even heard asked. Follow and subscribe to our channel. And listen to great questions with Tony DeCouple wherever you get your podcasts. Back here on the cover three podcast and an absolutely wild game. Very fun. Texas Tech emerges 34 26 as winners. And yes, Tommy, AKA Thomas, AKA Tommy C, that doesn't matter what you call them. All that matters is that you call them a winner here on this week nine Saturday because Castellanus gets the start ahead of Will Hammond and boy, he pays off that decision. Big time. Castellanus, 124 rushing yards, 144 passing yards, three total touchdowns. And Jacobi Williams jumps in with 175 rushing yards in a score. They just became a read option team here on this and I'm good with it. I mean, your thoughts 11 for 24 with some horrendous misses on stuff. They scheme wide open on the play action stuff. I was like, oh my God, I've seen this before like literally last year. But when you add in the 117 rushing yards, you already had a QB who would go 11 for 24. I mean, not that bad. But like without that rushing. Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. And like the defense played. I thought pretty well. Castellanus early, you did like you sacked, you sacked him five times like what tech tech had to run for like at least 250. I don't have the stats for me, but like they ran for a ton. They do or 328. Okay. Yeah. Like it felt like they were moving like we talk Arizona's blitz packages and how cool they are. And text text like, yeah, cool. We're just not going to do the passing thing today, guys. We're just going to just run it down your throats and play, you know, pretty good defense. And their athletes looked like on the line to scrimmage different than Arizona's athletes. Yeah. AJ homes are guys who could run on the outside, obviously. AJ homes is up to like what eight sacks on the season, you know, in eight or nine games. I mean, it's the solid performance. And I thought Fafita did his best, right? You know, he was extending plays and finding some big throws down the field, but good win for Texas. Become a red option in defense team. And that's okay. They can still do that and win the big 12. Jacobi Williams 175 yards on 14 carries 12 and a half a pop. It's a decent day. I will say like credit to Arizona because my skepticism for them in this game was just based on what they did against BYU. I did not think they were be able to move the ball like they did today. I know they only had 26 points, which wasn't nearly enough to win, but they averaged nearly six yards per play. And like you said, Chip, no, Fafita, he threw for 417 yards. So it's just they couldn't like Texas tech had five sacks and eight tackles for loss. So they just killed too many drives, despite the fact they were able to move the ball. But that's also credit for Texas tech like, yeah, it's, I kind of feel like when you reach the point where you're like Thomas Castellanos will save us. You're cooked like as far as the national title pictures can start. But the team we saw today can win the big 12. It could beat BYU in the big 12 championship. It could beat. It could beat Utah the championship game if they get there, not saying a will. All right. You Tom BYU fans chill out. I'm just saying the team we saw today is capable of beating those teams with one with Will Hammond. I'm not sure is. Yeah, running that read option by the end of the game was devastating because they'd hit so many explosives that the linebackers and the safeties were biting, right? I mean, it was just they they had total attention. Thomas Castellanos, Tommy Castellanos, Tommy C, call them what you want them, but call them a touchdown getter here on this Saturday, big time win for Texas tech as they as they keep those hopes alive up Utah. We put on upside alert and big game breakdown. It was a big mistake, big game mistake by the Cover 3 podcast because this team raced out to a 42 to 6 42 to 6 half time lead. Put this thing in park. The rest of the way. Cruises to a 49 to 25 win. Tom, you're you're him and in your hall and I just want to but his way to good of a teammate to say this. So I'll say it for both of us. But and I had no say in who the upset of the learned the week. I wasn't even on Tuesday exactly so don't be throw a butt under the bus saying but thought Utah is on upset. I didn't think Utah is an upset alert. You and Striker picked Utah to be on upset alert. So you I won't throw I won't throw Striker under this like this is on me. I thought I thought I would not have pushed back like I would have said like who handles success better alert, right? Cincinnati off their huge win over Texas tech or Utah off their big time win over over on the state right and Utah handled success like week to week much better Houston. But yes, I might my thought was thematically from a narrative perspective from the story telling perspective which sometimes when you're doing advertisements you know and integrated marketing it's about the story and so yeah Utah coming down off the mountain to be able to get into the Valley where Cincinnati is and to be able to challenge a team that had just pulled off a massive upset when yeah, it was an alert. It was an upset alert but oh yeah Utah they I mean they just came in and smacked them. They scored on defense they scored on special teams they scored on offense. They were just blowing the bear cats off the ball also maybe chalk it up to another one the if you beat a top 10 team what happens the next week right 42 to 6 in the first half yes like so on that one on the the data pile time I don't know about your database with mind shows that if you scoring touchdown every offensive drive you have in the first half and you also score on defense twice in the first half you have a really high chance to win the ball game that's exactly what you taught it. I think you win expectancy is at least 57% in that situation. I so I'm saying like you want to talk about games that you were able to to put to the side I mean that was done quick yeah this was 19 to 7 in the second half almost made by a top 25 like pre-write a little bit altered you know like oh gosh today was not a day that you needed the quad box for long stretches like there was a large portions day where you could have like you could watch this thing on a phone and be fine there's a lot of games that were done yeah I was I was all over the place I actually home one two three four five say I think I might have occupied like seven screens throughout one house today just because I had to stay away from the chaos right right like just like as I'm navigating around I'm like okay if you guys are going to be here I need to go be up here but yeah screen flexibility big time on on Halloween Saturday one other big 12 corner note especially as it pertains to the big 12 title race BYU thought that it had done enough and then it wasn't quite tired that the screws work somebody was getting ready for the holy war screws work quite tight on on on everything there in that second half right as I was my read on it I don't want to say any more necessarily but what would you would you see is Arizona state came storming back and made this little sweaty down the stretch it felt like BYU thought that as well like they had been right and they just couldn't run the ball right and then like they couldn't convert third downs and so Arizona state just kind of kept getting the ball back I'm like you got you guys might need to pass your way out of this you know and Arizona state hits them explosive runs on these guys like it was I don't like BYU won the game they find a way to win games pretty frequently like like special teams was really good for them as well for the most part you know I wasn't like super disappointed they kind of are who I think they are and you know who I think they are it's actually like really good in a year where you have a whole lot a lot of clustering just don't have a great offense and it makes it hard for them to put teams away and I think I mean I think that's part of it I think there was some we're kind of going to you know close shop a little bit and get ready for next week and I think the biggest factor is like the color blue that they were wearing today oh the Navy I'm out that's at Tom for Nelly BYU fans it like he's the one to say you guys don't have a great offense I think it's amazing I think it's it's elite offense after I came to your aid for chips saying that you picked Utah to lose to Cincinnati you just throw me under the BYU upset alert we are just trying to alert the people the possibility alert the the upset alert is the smoke detector of college football okay it's like when you're on hurricane watch right like you get five days in advance it could happen got to be paired and then all of a sudden it changes course like all right cool we're good and I got you know much can food I tweeted I tweeted like a video of one of the like the pick six that Utah had and there were like a bunch of Utah fans and like they're fly saying so much for picking Utah on upset alert and I was sitting I was like the hell are you I had no idea what they were talking about I'm like I didn't pick Utah to lose this game I was all to show him. No, I didn't. just didn't remember. So then when you brought it up, I was like, that's why I was getting yelled at by Utah fans. Integrated marketing is beautiful. You know, love it. We just, we continue. Uh, yeah, BYU Utah, they're going to play one of the biggest football games of the season on a day that will have four or five of the 20 biggest football games of the season on November 7. Cannot wait. We'll be absolutely massive. Coming up on the other side, something or nothing, Michigan struggling with Rutgers. Yeah. And let's check it on those fired coaches. How did the teams do hot seat alert? And more. Next. Back here on the cover three podcasts. And I'm going to go ahead and set a note for a pun for the review to find out what happened for Washington 17 Nebraska 10. Oh, this. I watched this one a lot. You did. I did because I want to talk about Michigan. Yeah. I had Washington. I want to talk about Oregon. We're about to dig into this little corner of the world. So I did not see, uh, I didn't see really much at any of this and yikes. That's not a good win for the, I mean, that is not a good situation for the corn huskers at home against that Washington team. Yeah. When we thought that Nebraska would start five and O and then absolutely flat line because they're scheduled so much harder than it was in prior years, like the reverse Wisconsin. We didn't really think it'd be against some of these teams that are completely falling apart or had been playing like crap. Mostly you're like Washington. You know, what's Washington? Two and five three and. Two and three in the big 10. No, they're five and three overall. Damn. Well, they got to play Washington state and Utah state. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So basically like neither team could really punch it in. They just like possessed the ball between the 20s. Nebraska had a good drive that they got stopped on. Andrew did like a weird like scramble thing on. It looked like a QB draw that he then tried to throw and then recognized he couldn't throw the ball and then he spun out and then took like a 12 yard sack. And then they missed the field goal, which would have put them up what? Ten three, I think. Um, and then Washington actually finally had a good drive. And that was nice. And then Kalandria immediately proceeded to pick six. And that's how you get 17 to three. But really, this was like an NBA game of regular season where you only got to watch the last two minutes because nothing happened for the first 58. I, I had Matt Rool and Nebraska in the anxiety rankings this week. I mean, this is it's, it's the same game season. Tom, you and I were talking about this offline. You just have to. Yeah, like this is, yeah, have to. And he didn't. It's this, it's the same game. It's the same season over and over again for Nebraska. Like, I, I wasn't closely watching this game. And it was seven to three for what felt like seven hours. Yeah, it was a terrible football game to watch. Nebraska do love the logos. Like with the Halloween Nebraska logo in the middle. And then like the uniforms were cool. The black shirts. But that it was just it was like it. The longer it stayed a one score game, the more you knew they were going to lose because they don't win one score games. And they collapse down the second half of the season. Every year, they started off five and one and then they'll finish seven and six. And guess what's on the way to happening. They started off five and one. Well, they were five and no this time. And they're going to finish seven and six. Yuck. Yeah. And this is why I was like, when we were talking about this the other day, I came up with an episode, but I was talking about like Matt Rool, maybe taking that exit ramp and going to Baylor. I don't know, man. Well, working, like the most important news that got all week, right, is Trey Taylor, like putting on Twitter. Hey, like I'm still all in Nebraska. That's the no more in quarterback in the country, right? He moved to Nebraska to play. It was a curse, but it was the same thing as Matt Rool signing an extension when Penn State opens and then losing. But like to the extent that we can know how your season is going to go, right? And we can't really know. But like, there's some clues like Nebraska squandered an easy schedule two years in a row. And this year is much harder. So like, it was kind of be like, all right, yeah, like bend over two years in a row, come in probably unless you guys killed this poor class coming out for 27. If I'm in Nebraska fan, even with all that's coming in and the momentum that we have recruiting, why the hell am I believing in any of it? I think this team is a lot better in last year's team. I just think the schedule is much harder. But still that you can't sell that to the fans. Well, the schedule is more difficult. They're not going to like the schedule. We're in Nebraska. The schedule shouldn't be difficult. We're supposed to be the difficult game. I don't know. It's just it is. I feel I legit feel bad for Nebraska fans right now. I only want to troll them. I feel so bad. Do does it make it worse to see Dylan Raiola coming up really good to win? I mean, he led the game winning drive against you two weeks ago. Big win for Oregon. Huge win for Oregon. They needed that. Yeah. Did you get any eyes on it? Stop almost all of it. What'd you think? I thought that Chip Kelly was in the lab, cooking up some crazy wild stuff. And early in the game, Oregon's defense had no idea what to do against any of it. And then they ran out of crazy stuff. And Oregon's defense started playing like Oregon's defense. And eight and Charles did make some really nice plays, but they scored 20 points in the first half, six points in the second half. I don't think there's any coincidence to that. I think they went into the locker room, figured some stuff out, came back out in the second half, completely shut it down. I think offensively, there were some bumps early for Oregon, new play collar. They fired the offensive coordinator. And they kind of figured out what was working. And they kind of stuck to it. And I thought overall, like they did not run the ball very well. North Western's got a pretty good run defense. Yeah, right. That's that was one thing is like we made a big deal. And obviously I got my hand slapped little for a low profanity, but it's not as though the run game, if it's not working, that's fine. Right. Let's isolate De Cori and more and let him go be a dude, chuck it up there and let him get under it. I don't know who was calling places. I can't remember his name. I just know that Oregon seemed to be far more focused on getting our skill guys the ball in positions to where they could go be the five star that they are. Agreed. The other thing here is that Oregon scored touchdowns when they had chances. And the Northwestern kicked a ton of field goals. Like they both moved it on each other pretty well. But like touchdowns or sevens and field goals are threes. And that's kind of the difference in the game. Like Northwestern felt like they kicked a million. Was it four or five? That's hard to win ball games. We're kicking that many field goals. Vibes wise. Shout out to Altson Stadium. They're booing in the first half. Yeah. I was I was happy to see that. That is a you I think that the in the 21st century, the idea of Oregon football becoming what it is, what it has become is cool. It is honestly the ideal over the long course that anyone is trying to sell themselves on, that you could become Oregon football and understand that Oregon football is still waiting for that national championship. But what they have in terms of fan support, what they can create in terms of unique environment, even though they don't have a 100,000 seat stadium. Like what we saw, I think today at moments was. Good sign for the just sort of the overall health of where the vibes are. They are big, big, big, big win against Oregon. We will discuss a little bit later on in the show whether or not that's enough to get them up inside the top 25. Northwestern was ranked likely going to fall out of the rankings after that loss right there. Anything else here? I've got one more big 10 result. I wanted to make sure we hit. What might that be? Dude, I was just some backing. What about Michigan records? We never even talked about it. That was weird. Like records hit like a couple big plays and I thought Michigan looked like way better than him on a downed down basis. Okay, I did not watch Wisconsin Iowa. Michigan missed a couple of field goals that probably would have put this game to bed a little sooner because you know, like probably would have killed Rutgers believing it had a chance. But yeah, Rutgers offensively was not great in this game. They didn't do a ton. But like, yeah, Tommy Carr played really well 266 yards passing. He also ran for 54 yards and two touchdowns. I don't think the final score was overall a good reflection of how this game really was. Yeah, it was like as if Michigan had like a ton of base hits and just like didn't score and had guys in score position and Rutgers had 17 strikeouts and three solo home runs. Yeah, that's a great way to put it. Yeah. So what about, so then what is the baseball analogy for what Iowa did to Wisconsin? Iowa hit like a bunch of home run. and through a no-hitter. -No, I got it. I was successfully got a challenge and then got a double play. Because here's what it was. Fourth downstop near the goal line, followed by a 12-play 86-yard drive that ate up a ton of clock, right? You know, then you stuffed them, and then you go the other way with the whoopsie Daisy Colton, Joseph Fumble, then you go the other way with the score, and then all of a sudden it's 20 to nothing, right? -Yeah, it was like in Beardley's softball where you 21 rule somebody after three, and you actually get to go to the bar by happy hour, you know? It was over quick. -Hank Brown gets the green light and stuck it to him, you know? Like, we talked a lot. I mean, even Tom Correct me if I'm wrong. Kirk Fair has kind of gave the indication that Hicklensky might see the field, right? Again, we're gonna go with Hank Brown to start, but I don't know what we'll have here, and Brown runs it from start to finish. Solid performance. -Yeah, let's see here. When did, when did, uh, just the last three years. Iowa 109 to 10. -Oh, the highlights are on now. Oh, it was nice to know. -I'm gonna repeat that. In the last three meetings, Iowa has outscored Wisconsin 109 to 10. -Are we sure of fickle safe? -No. -Because like, this schedule is pathetically easy, and like, 7 and 5 against this is not better than what they were doing against the hard schedule the last two years. I don't think, like, this is a cakewalk, man. -Yeah, and you're getting your ass kicked by your rivals. -Yeah. -Which is one of the bigger problems that people have had the last few years. The fact that they aren't beating Iowa, and it's not just that they aren't beating them, it's that they're getting the crap beat out of them, and you're losing a Minnesota at the end of the year, too. I don't think fickle safe at all. -Mm. -I thought eight, but like, 7 against this schedule is not improvement in my opinion. It's an improvement in the win column. Like, there's a lot of administrations that will just sell win lost fans. -And I think beating Rutgers, Maryland, and Purdue is gonna change it. Especially if you finish with another lost Minnesota. I think that would probably be the biggest thing. Like, if you can win the next three games, but if you lose the Minnesota, I would still be very iffy about Luke's future in Madison. -And that's so tough because that's got a trophy. -You know, PJ does with trophy games. -Yeah, Wisconsin's very much aware of what. -Anything else, Tom, you wanna discuss in the big 10? -Oh. -The best five and three team in America. -Don't let the Alina get hot. This team is now one three straight. -There are no pictures on the scorecards. -A, there are no pictures on the scorecard, Tom. -You had the chance to bury us and you let us get up. And now I don't know if we're ever gonna lose again. And Kate and Hauser's back so much for being out four to six weeks. He missed one full game. Thank you for the pie. Although I will say early in the game, I was very, very, very, very much questioning the decision to have Kate and Hauser playing. He was making some terrible throws. He had the interception early, but I mean, he was missing a ton. I was definitely like rage texting Jeremy Werner from Alina. I inquire like, "What the hell are they doing? Get him out of the game." He looks awful. But he kind of figured it out as it went along. But this was, yeah, I mean, in all honesty, it's a good thing, Maryland Stinks. Because if Maryland doesn't stink, Illinois loses this game. But like you said, typically Illinois loses that game because of the hangover and the fired coach bounce. Like Brett Billima has shown the ability as a coach to duck some of the typical Illinois stuff. It's very Illinois-centric. But I know that a non-zero portion of our audience can very much relate to that. I wanted to mention it because it does get us into the fired coach bounce. Baylor Friday night, NC State Saturday, early slate, come through with the win. Anything to take away one way or the other? Did you get any eyes on the bares against UCF or Cal falling in Raleigh? Yes, to the first, absolutely not to the second. Baylor, UCF was a great prep game for Saturday. Yeah. It's like, this one's over. I don't really need to watch anymore. Baylor's defense made Jenkins pat the ball a whole lot. It made him look like the kid we saw in FIU for the last two seasons. And he just looked awful. UCF didn't really get any movement in the run game. Baylor tackled well on a lot of the stuff that BYU failed to tackle well. And some of the crazy stuff that Jenkins did to beat BYU was actually caught for intersections by Baylor. So yeah, I mean, it was a reminder. And then obviously like he got hurt and they had to put in to burn it and then like no better. So good effort by Baylor. And like a lag way played pretty well. Yeah. Chip, did you watch NC State? Yeah. Cal fans won him fired now, by the way, like on Twitter. But that's Twitter, which is not real. It means the Cal algorithm. So you mean the. That's true. The it's red pill blue pill over there. And I don't really understand which one's which I don't know. And now I've ever seen a matrix in a long time. I can't remember which one was which. It's Cal. So I assume blue. But I clearly took the pill that makes you forget. What's the ignorance is bliss is like I've been doing this for a long time. You know what I learned? And he eats the steak ignorance is bliss. But before he sells itself out to the machines. Yeah. Nice. From the from the coaches that are fired to the hot seat watch. But what is the Mike Norvel outlook? Oh, I realized I didn't know our punters name. It's like week, week nine. Like my official group chats like all bitching about this guy in Hughes. Who the hell is Hughes? That's like how little I watch this team this year. No, no cast no cast shudders and now of the sudden we're not worried about the punter. Right. I'm like he and apparently he's got a big social media following which cool. I really didn't watch this game guys. Like there were a lot more bigger games to watch. And I was like, oh wow, they're going to come out and play like shit. All right. Like they're it's novel team. They're not going to bounce back. And they didn't. So I guess I'll watch highlights tomorrow with the boys are well low lights. But I don't know. I mean, based on like some of the reporting, like I read Chris needs thing. And it's like, wow, like they might keep this front office. That seems like an absolute disaster. So like do you even want Norvel fired? If you're going to do that, like just run this thing back. I don't have anything to add. I didn't know. TCU also avoided potential disaster. But I don't know about that Lance. I told you it was going to be a coach killer two weeks in a row. Still might be, I guess, you know, never say never on that one. But TCU is able to climb back and get a win. I had that one on a kind of watch. But I can't I don't have any football breakdown necessarily on that one. Also didn't watch TCU, Kansas. I didn't. I did not see not a chance. Yeah. No. And I was like, whoa. That's all I could tell you about that game. Right. Do you want to go ahead? I was going to say Oklahoma State Iowa State. That was a good game. Talk about that on the other side. Yeah. And then talk 25. Well, yeah. I mean, that's part of it, right? All right. I don't know. Ranked teams out. You took it out. For losing Iowa State, you're a hater. Put me on the wall and call me a hater for knocking you out of the AP Top 25 poll for losing to unranked Iowa State. And coming up on the other side, we take a look at our predictions for the new AP Top 25 poll. And more next. Back here on the cover three podcast. And yes, the tailgate is mentioning. Unfortunately, the AIMS is not a happy place for an Oklahoma State fan. No. What a great call. I think we're what 15 years. They were showing like they were showing 2011 like highlights during the game. As like Iowa State was driving for the game winning field. Banana's game. Okay. I don't have eyes on early because I only came in late. Yeah. Okay. It wasn't like the priority, but I had it on. All right. And it's like every time I looked over at it, somebody was running free for a touchdown. It was a big 12 football game. Old school. But I mean, look like Oklahoma State's offense is awesome. And I thought Iowa State defensively actually played like kind of okay in giving up. You know, it sounds insane, but like for their level of talent, I thought they played hard. Like they created some chaos, especially early like messed up maker is awesome. And Oklahoma State's defense was the thing we really questioned from the jump with their portal class. That was cool. Like you imported North Texas. That was really good last year on offense, and also your defense was like a like five alarm fire against American conference talent, right? And now you go play big 12, which is not amazing, but it's still a hell of a lot better than the American and like every week, they, not at most weeks, but all the state's defense looks like an American conference defense. And it ended up costing them here and it ended up costing them a spot in the top 25. And re-ranking the top 25 is sponsored all season long by Modello. College football season is Modello season. The fight songs, the fan quakes, the rivalry trophies are all better with an ice cold Modello in your hand. It's not just game day, it's tradition. And those who keep college football traditions alive, deserve a Modello. Modello is the official beer sponsor of the college football playoff. And as we take a look at our predictions for what the new AP Top 25 is going to look like on Monday, yes, I am he is going to be able to hold on to that number one spot after holding on for 38 to 35 win against the tar heels. Georgia moves up as we know that Ohio State's going to be taking a tumble, but the question is, where will the puck guys fall? Now, you can make it easy because they do have a head to head loss against Texas, which also has two losses on the season, and you can slot them in at number 11. Now in terms of quality, they do have a an interesting resume, right? Because they've got the win against Indiana, which is up there at number six after holding on with their second straight overtime win. But you could also say that an AP voter might consider the changing quarterback or the injury at quarterback. I don't know if the teams behind them necessarily have proven enough as it is to jump ahead of the puck eyes. But as a first conversation point here, re-ranking the top 25, I guess that's where I would kick it at you two gentlemen, where do you think Ohio State lands after taking its second loss of the season? I think you have it right because some voters do more of a power poll and some voters do more of a resume poll, and on a power poll rating, like the six quarters or so who seems to Luke Fahey, Ohio State doesn't look like a top 20 team, right? But on a resume, I think they're very clearly like top 10. So kind of split the baby, 11 things find to me. Yeah, they're going to drop quite a bit. If you are ranking them based on who they are now without Julian Sand, I don't think you can justify keeping them in the top 10 on your ballot. Yep. Other predictions that we're looking at, I do think Indiana slips a couple spots. I've got Indiana making a move up, I'm not, excuse me, got Utah making a move up as Indiana drops. Do you think the sticker shock a phrase I've used here before for the way that Utah was able to just race out of that 42 to 6 lead? Do you think it would give them the opportunity? They are unbeaten. They're undefeated. Okay. I don't, I don't think Utah is going to jump Indiana. Okay. I don't know. They could. I feel like the voters have been a little more. I've got Utah and UCLA for the record. Utah and UCLA. I'm I'm being fair here. This is these are both of the undefeated teams that won by double digits, moving ahead of the Indiana team that has won loss and had to go to overtime for the second straight week. Yeah, but I mean, I don't know if you see a label, I think Utah has got a shot. Yeah. You see a lot of that. I don't think about it now. Yeah. Got. I mean, maybe if they scored 33, 34 points, but you know, only 27. Wow. Take shots at the poor kid. Just needed to win by one. Lots of chaos down there, the edge of the pole, where SMU, oh, yuck, yuck, SMU law, Syracuse, Northwestern. We already discussed that game, Arizona as well, Oklahoma state and Wisconsin. When you're sitting there in the 20s and you lose, you're going to fall out. So my choices, USC obviously moves back into the top 25 after the win against Ohio State. I gave Iowa, the Iowa Wisconsin tradeoff was very easy, South Carolina with the win that they had jumping in Oregon, again, in Northwestern, kind of one for one. And then I'm going with New Mexico. That's one that I feel a little bit light on, but it's just not a lot of great options. Otherwise, are you going to keep Arizona in? Are you going to keep, like, I've got Florida in maybe because Oregon State is not going to be able to get the job done here as we're talking live, the edge of the rankings, it gets a little dicey. UTSA also, I mean, as we've said, every week this season, I get one more crack at this. I've got UTSA also on my watch list as a team that could move in. They were off this week, but again, another one loss team from the group of six. If a voter is sitting there, they get to 23 teams and they're like, I don't know who's a one-loss team. You could maybe go and grab that one. Maybe Memphis, I think gets a little bit more love after a pretty significant win against Army, but it gets a little bit hairy after 22 to me. I don't know if you haven't to do this this year, like, I mean, this is hard, but generally, I don't think you are wrong. I'm just annoyed that like, because you're probably right, but Northwestern, which has two one score losses on the road to Indiana and Oregon. We'll get kicked out, but meanwhile, a three-loss South Carolina team will get to jump in based off beating Oklahoma, even though they've got three losses, including a 31-point loss on their resume. And then you look at their wins, like Tennessee right now, I guess, is their best win, because Florida took another loss today. Yeah, but it's Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma. For South Carolina, and I mentioned this in New York. Or in Forchip. Yeah. It's the rhythm of it. It's, we were three, three-game losing streak, three-game winning streak. I know. Just kind of goes. You're right. That's why it'll probably happen. They are playing well. I agree, but it's just Northwestern loses by a score for only the second time this year. They can't be ranked, because they lost yesterday when you're putting together your pull. But the South Carolina team that lost by 31 a month ago and had a three-game losing streak, they can't be ranked for beating the crap out of a bad Oklahoma team. They looked good, though. They did. Lenora Sellers has looked really good the last three games. Yeah. I think I was an Arfer and Brad Crawford who pointed out in the College Football Slack. We had pitched the should Lenora Sellers be benched conversation behind, you know, behind closed doors. And what did he respond with three absolutely highlight-worthy stellar performances? Yeah. Oh. What? Sounds like. sounds like we got somebody. Yeah, kid up. Might've had a Halloween kid fall out of the bed. Sorry. We'll be okay. But did you. did you steal kids? No. Not tonight. By the way, Oklahoma, like, the most. R.T. I heard crying. You know, I was almost like, wait a second. But like, is it yours? Or is it like kids sleeping in the house? No, it's in the house. It's in the house. I was just. That's why I was confused. Because you said we've got a Halloween kid. I didn't know if like you were trick or treating and just grabbing kids. No, no, no. I mean, it's like, yeah, yeah, I had too much candy. You've been flopping around in your bed and. Do you guys still in that room? No. On that mind today. It's like, all right, we got an 8 a.m. baseball. You guys are going to be up late. We're laying down, having a little quiet time. Yeah. I was surprised because I would not let my children sleep over at your house after that f-bomb. You dropped on the showlet. That is true. Yeah. That's great. If I'm able. If I'm able to get myself out of hosting sleepovers. It sounds fantastic. Kids are making some noise in garbage time, which is exactly what Oklahoma did as they had 241 yards in the fourth quarter after I only have 118 to the first three. What game lasted for ever? It's a browse offense trying to like, like, close a game out there. That game lasted like four and a half hours, and like, there were no delays. It just took that long to play it. But they play. I think South. Anyway, I think South Carolina did, all right, acquitted themselves. What about the Oregon side? Oregon, breaking back in, makes me a little bit uncomfortable. But golly, this is a chaotic rankings resume. When you think about the defeats to UCLA, Oklahoma, state, and Illinois, but then also wins against USC in Northwestern. I don't know, man, like. I've got them at 24. They could be 27 and not be in the top 25. They're going to get a lot of votes because they're Oregon and they just came up with the win against the top 25 team. But you should be noticing about a top 25 ranking, right? Yeah, it's about 25 teams. I use South Carolina as an example, but that's only because Oregon had just beaten Northwestern. So it's like I can understand them. being ranked over Northwestern, but like I would argue South Carolina deserves to be ranked more than Oregon. But again, like Bud just said, you got to put 25 teams in this damn thing. Yeah. It's it's very, very interesting. Always you can check out the tomorrow's top 25 today. When we finish here live on youtube.com/cover3, I'll jump back in there on cbsforce.com for one final rerank one final reread, but you get here first on the cover 3 podcast. And that was the re ranking the top 25 sponsored by Madelo. While the rankings may change week to week, Madelo will always be at the top of our list as the perfect companion for a college football Saturday. Remember, college football season is Madelo season. All right, what a Boise State up 28 to 10, right? 28 to 25. Texas Texas H is scored. They've got they've put up 22 points in the third quarter. Do I trust Texas State to do this? No, but will I monitor the situation now? Yes. Oregon State down 21 to 9 1/2 time. Also could could keep some of those teams on the the problem about a top 25. It's got 5 25 teams to put there. We took a lot of shift Morgan State fans for like saying the agree, agree like it's not winning the highest. He's definitely going to New York. I'm like, yes, I think he has a real chance of going to New York. He says no chance to win the thing. Like maybe it maybe comes back here. We'll see. What else from the the wheat nine slate stands out? Man, army like could really use a past defense. Yeah, when you're going to get the boomer bust of of Marcus Stokes and you don't have the athletes to defend the wide receivers, it gets rough. My buddy text me is like, we should have seen this coming. USF's offense looking explosive against Army's past defense. It's like, yeah, yeah. It's a good point. Wake Forest. Absolutely dogwalked Virginia. Yeah, they did. Now Virginia had like 40,000 dude missing injuries, but that's been their case for a while now. But Wake Forest showed them no mercy. Again, that was not a game I watched a lot of because it was over quickly, but I do want to shout it out. 51 to 7. Are we on wagon work for them? Come on. Cheers. Yeah, I'm glad you mentioned this because Tony Elliott and multiple other coaches that have played Wake Forest have talked about this team like it's a wagon alert. It's a very, very hot take. I hate that they're playing Mary Mack next week. You know, remember when Mary Mack covered for me? I know that I hate that they're playing Mary Mack next week in advance of SMU. So, you know, it's like, all you got to do is win by one. When, when they're playing Mary Mack, will you monitor the situation? Not like that. Damn it. I talked to a North Carolina kid. He didn't, they didn't teach you history. The monitor in the Mary Mack, the iron clads. Do you ever heard of the, do they, oh, you're in the South, they don't teach the Civil War down there. It didn't happen. The what? I was the War of Northern Aggression. All right. Historic tech going to attend. They might be. They might be. Have you looked at this remaining schedule? Yeah. All right. Now, boys, he's punning. I do. Oh, wow. They had Louisville Clemson, Wake and Georgia. I mean, yeah, they're going to, I mean, I could see Georgia tech doing the ACC thing and beating Wake Forest. Wake Forest is still one loss at that point. And they're like, they, they get in the college football playoff rankings. They're suddenly like nine or 10. And then here comes old Georgia tech, the Ramblin wreck, just runin' things. Oh, Duke, Tom, you and I talked about this before. Duke worked Boston college today. Yeah. They clad those cheeks. Yeah. It's not competitive at all. Good work. Good work by the Blue Devils. Nate Shepherd, five touchdowns, a school record. The most intackable human alive. It hasn't been playing super well. It's liberty. Yeah. Like, like, they just look a hell of a lot better than it last year. You know, like, I was, I mean, I was doing odds because on Fridays, I look at the playoff odds to get like a head of it for when I do the five check. Like, when I write it after, because I just like to see how they shift from, you know, the day before till the, after the week's games. I gotta say, I saw liberty. It's like 45 to one to make the playoff. And I was just kind of like, hmm, I don't, I don't expect it to happen. But I do think that with some of the chaos like that, we're kind of seeing right now, like, like, like, a toy state loses and Oregon state loses. And with James Madison having lost the night before, I was just like, I don't know, there might be a clearer path than 45 to one. Oh, shout Louisiana Tech today for smoking South Alabama. They are probably winning the West. That's how the West was won. We are going to be back with you on Monday, getting you set for the week ahead.
