This season on my podcast, who's with me, I speak with Bruce Lee's daughter, Brandon Lee's sister, and my friend, Shannon Lee. Back to your initial point of stewarding my father's legacy and giving my energy to that. You're lending your life to stewarding somebody else's life. Listen to Who's With Me with W. Kamau Bell on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On recent episodes of The Questlove Show, I chatted with JoJo about her music and Wallo267 about his story. Everything in between. Don't invite me to karaoke. I'm going to make it weird. Someone's going to try to sing, leave, get out, or too little, too late, or baby, it's you. Oh, no. And I'm going to be like, okay, cool. Check out my conversation with JoJo, Wallo267, and more on The Questlove Show. Listen to The Questlove Show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Peace. I'm Fox Sports reporter, Jenny Taft. And I'm former U.S. Women's National Soccer team player, Carly Lloyd. And I'm the host of The Questlove Show. On our new podcast, whatever it takes, nothing is off limits. I played with players that didn't truly love the game. I found the love with the ball at my foot. I don't care what I'm being asked to do at Fox. I'm going to go get some reps and love it and embrace it. Listen to Whatever It Takes with Carly Lloyd and Jenny Taft on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Questlove Show on the iHeartRadio app. I'm not even blaming Arch Manning for all this. I'm just saying it's so clearly like a, it's not a referendum. It's like a huge inflection point game this Saturday in Austin. So that's not hot. It's hot if you haven't watched them and you're just running your mouth. But that's just the state of affairs at Texas right now. It's Thursday, though. It's not Saturday yet. It's Thursday, October 22nd, the year of our Lord, 2026. We're jam-packed. We're high atop just a sun-drenched downtown Nashville, Tennessee. It's been great. It's been great this week. Some saying the best weather week that we've had all year. I am some. Upset alert concern meter. Higher than usual, I would say. I've got a number of games that we've got to keep an eye on. I am going to have a job security conversation tonight. However, the staff wants me to call it a hot seat conversation because it looks better on the thumbnail. I cannot disagree. We are clickbait paid, after all. As a collective here, we are clickbait paid. A commissioner's poll is out. Yes, these are rankings. These are rankings. We are top 25 rankings. And the future award-winning Week 8 Viewer's Guide. All that plus the best bet or two thrown in on the show tonight and some propaganda from one of you. Not one of me, from one of you. They're watching us in Riverside, California, Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Des Moines, Iowa, Cookville, Tennessee. Wherever you're watching or listening, thank you so much. We try and make this America's college football show. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we succeed. But every time I ask, please subscribe to the channel if you have not already. We are inching ever so closer to 600,000 subs. Jesse is still undecided on which ceremonial ritual he will partake in. As a celebration, we just have it on good authority. He's going to do something. We threw face tattoo out today. He shot it down. Okay, so all balls are in his court at this point. But he's got to do something. If he cares at all about you, he's got to do something. Let's dive in. Upset alerts. For week eight of the college football season. A lot of upset alerts on the sheet here. Now, let's start with one that I have no faith in whatsoever, which may sound crazy because I did take the underdog plus the points here. But Pitt is playing Miami at high noon on Saturday. That is Miami minus 20 and a half. That is the same Miami team that was favored by 20 and a half last week. Like, if anyone's trying to take comfort in the fact that the upset might happen here, these are the sorts of things they would tell themselves. Well, hey, man, Florida State was a 20 and a half point dog, and they took him to overtime. Overtime. Bold prediction number one tonight. Pitt will not take this game to overtime. Bold prediction number two. They will not win in regulation. I'm putting a one and a half on the upset alert concern meter. And I'll tell you why. The offense has looked lost since Heinzel went down. And I don't have any faith that they're going to find themselves against this Corey Heatherman defense. Also, on the other side, even if they do, Jesse, Miami's going to be able to move the ball seemingly at will. No. Number 116 pass defense. Not in the conference. That would be a record. In the country. So, yeah, there are a lot of upset alert concerns. I just wanted to get this one out of the way because I don't have a whole lot of faith in that one. Hey, maybe Miami gets caught looking ahead to North Carolina because that's a thing that apparently happens in the ACC now. Next up. Now, you want to talk upset alert concern. I see the upset alert meter. It's sort of pinging up towards maybe a seven for this next game. Indiana. Play in Michigan. Indiana headed into the big house. The house that Taylor LeJuan built, as they call it up there. Seven and a half point favorites are the Hoosiers. Tommy Carr era has begun. Now, I'm a little scarred. Although this is totally apples to oranges, but I'm going to make the comparison anyway. Tommy Carr entered the game last week and they ended up beating Penn State and everyone feels good. Rah, rah, rah. I am old enough to remember two weeks ago, or three weeks ago, whatever it was at this point, when Dylan Raiola came off the bench and he saved Oregon's season and everything looked great and that win against USC. And then what did we have? We had a whole week, two weeks in that case, of Dylan Raiola knowing he was going to get the start and it proceeded to be the worst quarterbacked four quarters of football we've ever seen in the modern era. Now, I don't think Tommy Carr is going to look that bad, but I'm not automatically throwing a ton of confidence behind the change at quarterback being made and all of a sudden the offense is going to take off. But, I'm still putting a seven on the upset alert concern meter here because Indiana's profile this year is not what it was last year in the sense that they're not blowing folks out. They're playing tight games. They played Northwestern tight. They played Nebraska tight. They played Ohio State tight. They won two of them. They lost one. They're going on the road here. I just kind of think that may be their sweet spot. That may be their wheelhouse. That may be where they live this year. Michigan beat Penn State because they, they benefited from turnovers. They forced them. They benefited from taking the ball away. Indiana hasn't really done that a whole lot. Famously, Josh Hoover is yet to throw an interception. So, if it's a lower scoring game, I think the total is 41 and a half, Jesse. Is that right? Yeah, so it's a low, oh, there it is right there. Yeah, it's a low 40s type total game, which means, theoretically, it's a lower scoring game, which means it's a higher variance game, which means I've got to put a seven on the upset alert concern meter. I like the over a little bit. I think the number's just a little bit too low. Not enough to bet on the show tonight, though. Next up, Texas Tech is going to Cincinnati. Now, whomst amongst us hasn't hung over half a hundred on Kenny Dillingham, only to go to Cincinnati, Ohio the next week? I know I have. Texas Tech is favored by 10 and a half. Cincinnati is not in single wounded animal mode. They are in double wounded animal mode. They have taken two wounds, and they're at home now, and they face Texas Tech coming off a season high in sports. They were scoring last week. Some say they'd still be scoring at will if they didn't make them stop the game because four quarters had ended. Some places in the Big Ten actually do play a full four quarters. In Provo, Utah, they like to leave some time on the clock to each his own. I'm not here to cast aspersions. Cincinnati lost last week, but you wouldn't know it if you just looked at their box score in isolation because somehow they lost despite having 622 total yards. You know how hard that is to do? It's difficult. They found a way, though. So, Texas Tech. Excellent run, D. If you're going to get Texas Tech, in theory, it would be through the air. I don't trust Cincinnati to do that. But I do understand this is like a weird sort of road spot. Big 12 hasn't really had the top quarter of the conference start taking live bullets yet. Don't know that this is going to be where it happens, but I'm leery of it. I'm certainly not. betting against Texas Tech again, but I'm leery of it. So I'm going to put a five. on the upset alert concern meter. Now, anyone who is clipping this out of context and sending it to Joy McGuire, that is not a prediction that they're going to lose. It is merely a prediction that they need to go take care of business. What a prediction that is, by the way. He never would have thought of that on his own. Next up, speaking of the Big 12, anybody take a look at this Brigham Young UCF line? Jesse, is this right? Brigham Young, number one team in the commissioner's poll, teaser for later? Six and a half point favorites? Orlando is a notoriously tough place to play in October. We all know that. Brigham Young is a six and a half point favorite against UCF. Schedule dynamics obviously in play here. I think, Brett, your mark has dropped the ball by even allowing this game to happen in this spot. Here's what I mean. They played Notre Dame last week. They beat them. That's the good news. The bad news is they now have to fly from Utah to Orlando and they are playing a team off a bye in their building. If I were a conference commissioner, which is my backup plan if I don't become college football commissioner, I would just tell the scheduling department to put the final product on my desk because I got to approve it. If I were Brett, your mark, and I looked at one of my potential playoff contenders playing Notre Dame and then going on the road in conference play across two time zones to play a team, I would just tell the scheduling department to put the final product on my desk because I got to approve it. If I were Brett, your mark, and I looked at one of my potential playoff contenders playing Notre Dame and then going on the road in conference play across two time zones to play a rested team, I would have redlined it and I would have sent it right back to the scheduling department and said do better. I don't know that that's the way it works. I don't even know if what I just said is realistic, but because of all these dynamics, I got to put a seven on this game. UCF, what they can do is they can at least make you throw the ball to win. They can at least force you to move the ball through the air down the field. Bear Bachmeier, I thought he played the game of his life last week, but if you look at his performance on the road, in Big 12 games, he's only thrown over 200 once. It's a limited sample size. I get that, but this is a weird spot, tricky spot. I'm going to put a seven on the upset alert concern meter. Next up, way off the radar in the SEC, Kentucky. Bell of the proverbial ball in the SEC right now. Six and one. Kentucky is firmly in the playoff conversation. They are firmly in the SEC championship game conversation. While that's still a thing, they're still in the playoff conversation. There's an expiration date on that game. It says 2026. This is it. If you're going to get one, get one now. They are in, I guess this is a thing, triple do down spot for Kentucky. They won on back-to-back walk-off two-point conversions. Then they went on the road and beat Oklahoma last week because John Mateer signed a game and then gift-wrapped it to them. I don't want to take away from Kentucky. They earned the victory. It's been an emotional run here. They got Vandy coming to town. They're a 10.5 point favorite. Here's the one thing that I think puts this game in play, aside from the external, like the scheduling dynamic stuff. I'm going to put a six on this game because I do think Kentucky's got a pass D in the 100s. Vandy's been very up and down. They do have Jared Curtis. Technically, in any given game, Jared Curtis has the talent profile to just randomly throw for 330 on you. It's unlikely, but it can happen. If that were to happen here, and Kentucky's trying to get to that bye week, and they are coming off big emotional games, like the Vandy game this year, that's the one you look at and you think, I can breathe a little bit that week. The other part that's made these teams what they are, but could flip on any given Saturday, Kentucky is top five in the country in turnover margin, and Vandy is in the 120s, which means that's why they are where they are as teams. But on one given afternoon, if that switches, and on one given afternoon, if Jared Curtis just bites that pass defense ranked 116th a couple of times, who knows what could happen. I will keep an eye on this game for as long as I need to. I'm going to put a six on the upset alert concern meter. And lastly, UCLA is sort of in Kentucky's spot, but in the Big Ten, they're undefeated. So they're better than Kentucky. They're undefeated. And they're coming off a couple of spots here at Oregon. And then against Wisconsin, they scored 34 combined points and went 2-0 in those games. Good on them. Good on them. The backup quarterback here is playing efficiently enough, where in a complimentary fashion, it's crazy how football works, that meshes with a good ground game, that meshes with solid defense, forcing turnovers, and they're winning. And now Michigan State comes to town. UCLA is over a two-touchdown favorite, but I still think this warrants a four on the upset alert. concern meter. There's no look-ahead spot. UCLA's got Nevada next week. I just think Michigan State's offense, they're really, really beat up, which is frankly why I'm not looking at this game harder. Their run defense is in the 70s. So the formula's there for UCLA to just take care of business here. Maybe some early turnover stuff. Maybe the air starts to get a little thinner. You know, every week further that you climb up the mountain of playoff contention, with a group that's not been there, although, I mean, in fairness, Chesney and those guys were there last year, just at another program. But every step you take further up the mountain, it does weird things to you. But I don't know in mid to late October, I don't know if we're quite there yet. I think that's more a November thing. I'll put a four on this. I think it'll probably be a sleepy game, and UCLA just ends up winning the game. But in fairness, we put all of them on your radar. We will be in Columbia, South Carolina. Two days from now. Tennessee at South Carolina, the Don't Tread on Saturday tour. What a phenomenal tour it's been so far, by the way. And we are going to be blessed with an insane environment, a great fan base, and wonderful weather conditions this Saturday. Prez, you know what that means. Prez has been the victim of several sunburns so far this year. He burns very, very quickly. And it's going to be red hot in Williams-Brice Stadium. A number of Pate State staffers experiencing Cocktober and Williams-Brice for the first time. I myself could not be any more ecstatic to have them experience it. Also, the South Carolina-themed Don't Tread on Saturday shirts flying off the shelves as expected. It's one of our best sellers of the year. You could buy one right now, patestatematerial.com. It's one week and then it's over. And you'll just have to tell your kids one day, I had a chance to buy that and I let the chance pass me by. But what you also can do, if you're not a South Carolina fan, if you're just hanging out in Des Moines, Iowa right now, or Valdosta, Georgia, and you're saying, why would I buy a South Carolina t-shirt? You probably wouldn't. What you could do is buy a Pate State Realtree camo hoodie or a Pate State Realtree camo t-shirt because they're available now. Now it's that partnership Tuesday night, we're partnering with Realtree. For me, Realtree is very much a homegrown company because they're, I don't know if they're headquartered in Columbus slash Harris County, all those dudes are from that area. So I grew up around them. So to me, Realtree, it might as well be headquartered in my backyard. And a lot of you guys getting ready for hunting season, or I know a lot of you in the South just wear camo to school. We did. There was a period of time, Jesse, this will shock you that I just wore the same shirts over and over again to school. Yeah. It wasn't a white tee though. It was a camo tee. It was a Realtree camo tee. It was an eighth grade. Uh, eight, 12, zero was my locker combination. Put that in your Realtree ad read. A decade ago, the ethanol kingpin of Iowa became the king of corn in Brazil. So we met with a lot of larger farmers, went from Bahia to Tocantins to Mato Grosso. And he brought a team of executives. They were going to help the country get in on a gold rush. Carbon and its derivatives are going to be really the next great commodity that the globe's going to trade. But back home in Iowa, trouble was brewing. If you live in Iowa, your land, your water and your voice could all be at risk thanks to a man named Bruce Rastetter. Now people are questioning if his climate solutions have anything to do with climate at all. You gotta give Bruce and the guys credit. They're republicans. They don't give a shit about any of this now. On this season of Drilled, Carbon Cowboys, the story of how the ethanol kingpin of Iowa became the king of corn in Brazil and what it tells us about the limits of technology and markets to solve the climate crisis. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Is there an epidemic against literature? More specifically, Black literature. Our books are being banned, scanned by AI and destroyed. I'm Jacquees "Peace" Thomas and on this season of the Black Lit Podcast. We're outside asking some of the custodians of our stories, teachers, and our modern day writers why. - They don't want a whole bunch of little Ella Bakers, Malcolm Xs, and Martin Luther Kings running around. - They want to build children who have no empathy. That's really the ultimate goal. We want books that don't make white kids feel bad. - So is the war on literacy and information or our ability to connect? - We want people to know how sexy reading is and how fun it could be and not always associated with education. It could be an escape. It could be entertainment. - And that is the beauty of reading. It can be all of those things. And considering this is Black Reading Month, the only real question is, what are you reading next? Listen to Black Lit from the Black Effect Podcast Network on our iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. - Hey, what's up, y'all? It's Questlove. And on the Questlove show, I've been sitting down with some really interesting people, and I've got two recent episodes you should check out. I caught up with my good friend JoJo to talk about her music, her career, and what she's been up to. - Don't invite me to karaoke. Someone's going to try to sing "Leave, Get Out" or "Too Little, Too Late" or "Baby, It's You." - Oh, no. - And I'm going to be like, okay, cool. - I also caught up with wild0267 for a conversation that covered his story, his perspective, and plenty more. - I don't even call it cheat day. That's a life day. I'm not doing nothing. Don't try to be slick and just go Sunday. Go Wednesday. This is what you do. Sleep later. Make a reservation for the rest of the round later. Just chill. Listen to the music you want to listen to. Just enjoy it. It's going to be all right. Nothing's going to happen. You're going to wake up Wednesday and go like, ah. And you're going to feel better. - And those are just two of the many recent episodes of the Questlove show. Peace. - Bye. - Bye. Maybe it isn't. We got to figure that out. LSU, last game before the bye week. It's the worst place to be in the SEC right now. Your eighth straight game, your last game before the bye week. LSU, brings me no joy. LSU has lost six straight on the road. That's their worst streak essentially this millennium. According to ESPN, they haven't had a streak that bad on the road since 1998 through 2000. Anytime you have a losing streak that stretches across three years, in my experience, it's not a good thing. That's just my experience. I don't know. Maybe you've lived a different life. So the good news is on the injury report, Tredez Green's not even on it. And so he's either quit football, which I don't think he has, or he's back this week. We think he's just back this week. So they've had a pretty high functioning offense at LSU. Turnovers have been the issue. I don't know how many times I've said this before, but boy, if I could just erase turnovers from this offense, that'd be a great offense. Well, they're seventh in the country in points per game. In fact, they're top 10 in a lot of stuff. They're top 30. 35 in virtually all the stuff. The turnover condition, especially on the road, it's concerning. You know Auburn knows going in. The way we beat Georgia last week was forcing turnovers. The way we probably win in this game is not trading points with them. It's forcing turnovers. I think Auburn's hope here is getting home on Sam Levitt. 'Cause he's, I mean, they've forced eight interceptions on the season. They've forced one interception every game. So far this year, haven't they? Yeah, so clearly that's Auburn's formula. Package all that up plus home field. So that's why I wonder about Trades Green. There's no player like him in the league. There's not really a player like him in the country. He, I am actually, you know what? I'm not even gonna do an irresponsible comparison. Not gonna do it. I'm just saying Trades Green, when he's healthy, there's not another, you know, weapon at that position like him. So how functional is he? Is this one of those things where, yeah, he's healthy enough for us to put him on the field, but he's not 100%? Or is it, no, man, he's full go. 'Cause he's very versatile. They use him in a ton of different ways. And that's a nightmare for anybody, Auburn included. Now, LSU on the road. So far this year, I watched them have 32 put on them by Ole Miss. I watched Kentucky put 35 on them. I think there was a special teams touchdown there. Auburn last week felt like they found something offensively. It's not gonna be an electric offense. But Byron Brown's run for 100 or more in back-to-back games. So here's the key to me, and that is if Auburn's turned a corner, maybe sacks aren't as big of a problem. Maybe negative plays aren't as big of a problem. But we don't know yet if they've turned a corner. So far this year, Auburn's 135th in the country in sacks allowed per game, and LSU defensively is number two in the country in forcing them. That's where the crowbar goes in the spokes for Auburn here. They cannot allow that to happen, and they also gotta avoid the early avalanche so that they can do what they did against Georgia last week. They can run the ball to stay in the game. They can run the ball to hopefully lead the game in their case. Jeremiah Cobb, puzzling statistic here. Under 10 attempts in three or four SEC games so far this year. Not something I thought I'd find myself saying. So the one thing to watch with home field here is Auburn is woeful in penalties. They're 111th in the country in penalties. LSU, fairly disciplined. Top 35 in penalty yardage. Does that shift at all here? And then also, Auburn, red zone touchdown percentage. Needs work, 60th. LSU's just gotta be a big boy team here. Like the whole home-road split, that is not the profile of a legitimate high-level playoff contender. It's a team that doesn't fully have its act together. So if LSU is what the JP poll thinks LSU is, this is where they really start to turn it on and they play a consistent ball no matter which venue they're playing in. And I think they will, Jesse. The model right now looks at FanDuel's number, which is LSU minus seven and a half, and it's saying that's not high enough. LSU minus nine and a half, according to the model. I am going to believe it. And this is one of the most brave things you can do in the SEC right now. I'm gonna take LSU to win and cover on the road. Not with a ton of confidence. But that's the side I'm gonna land on. I pulled in the parking lot today at the office in a 2027 Ram. You could say that exact same sentence if you want to. There we go, Jesse. Finally got it right. If you listen on podcast, I appreciate it, but there are just some things you miss. And one of them is me struggling mightily to mirror my finger with the Ram truck as it animates itself across the screen. Look, we have partnered with Ram for the season. My motivation, as I said, as I told Jesse when we had the opportunity to partner with Ram was a far different motivation than most people. Most people look and say, "Man, I love Ram's dependability. I love the 100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty. I love the selection. I love the line of vehicles." And yes, I love all that too. But need I remind you folks, there is a Twister movie poster that hangs on the set in this studio. And who was the main character in Twister? Other than Bill Paxton. And what vehicle did he drive? The exact same one, updated, of course, for classification and year, that I have in the parking lot right now. So we all have different motivations. Maybe you're just understanding, I'm going tailgating this week and I need the best possible option to pull into my tailgate. And that's Ram. You know, you pull in there with a Ram and everyone sort of gravitates towards you. At which point you decide, Jesse, do I want to share my food? With these people or not? Kind of depends on what colors they're wearing. But Ram can get you there. No tailgate complete without it. And we appreciate them. Okay, let's move on. We've got, well, we've got some whale breaches happening. I don't have time to explain the whale breaches tonight. If you're new around here, stay tuned. I'll explain them eventually. The week eight commissioner's poll is out. Not to be confused with the JP poll. The commissioner's poll is just my ratings or my rankings, rather power ratings on Tuesday rankings on Thursday around here. So if I had a, if I had a cub like a playoff ballot or an AP ballot, this is how I would fill it out this week. And it looks pretty radically different than the AP. So I put it out earlier today and I always put it up earlier in Thursday so that a lot of you have time to respond to it. Cause I'm always interested. Like, I think we do a good job on ranking teams based on body of work. Maybe there's like a thin, thin layer of eyeball test but it's largely just body of work. And then I get your feedback and I want to know like what are the biggest gripes. So Brigham Young is number one for me. Miami's number two. And someone hit us up, Charles, and he said, I would love for you to explain why Kentucky moves one spot from last week and Brigham Young jumps 12. Are you starting to feel the pressure from the hundreds of Big 12 fans? I didn't even see that. Okay, that's disrespectful. And secondly, no pressure, but Brigham Young jumped a bunch of spots because they beat possibly the best team in the country. At the very least, they beat, at the time, a top five team. Now, the AP still has Notre Dame top five, which is insane. More on that in a second. But they jumped higher than Kentucky because they beat a much better team than Kentucky. And Kentucky is number 10 in the country right now. So I wouldn't really worry too much about Kentucky's ranking. They're right there. They're six and one. Their one loss is a pretty wide loss to Alabama. I think they let them at the half at home. But anyway, Kentucky's fine. But I think Brigham Young deserves that number one ranking right now. Okay, a very important question about Ohio State. Quinn Bear, former staffer here. Quinn Bear said, why waste time putting Ohio State at 13? He meant number three. Why waste time putting Ohio State at number three if they aren't in your playoff bracket? Important distinction there because this is not predictive for me. This should reflect what you think. This is not predictive for me. You've done so far. Not what I expect you to do. And I'll take it a step further. We've got Julian saying out. And I know that. And I don't think Ohio State's the number three team in the country without Julian saying. But here's the thing. I'm not predicting with my rankings. I just predicted with my words. But my rankings should reflect what has happened. If I'm right and Ohio State is not the team that they were with Julian saying now that he's gone, they'll play like that. And then I'll subsequently rank them in accordance with their play. Because here's the thing that happens that a lot of people don't want to admit. Sometimes you think things or predict things and you're wrong. So if I predict Ohio State's going to be worse without Julian saying, and then I drop them to 10, but they actually play better without him, then what was I doing with my rankings the whole time? So this is not predictive to me. That's why Ohio State is even though I've said, I actually don't think they're going to make the playoff. Well, if they don't make the playoff, then that means they lose more games. And if they lose more games, it will get reflected in the rankings. Next up. I don't get what the AP is doing with Notre Dame. Someone said, have you? No, that's a tweet too early. No. Someone asked about Notre Dame being at 11. Jesse, does the AP have Notre Dame at four? And we've got Notre Dame at 11. Maybe you could look and say, can't we find a happy medium? Yeah. If you, if we really got into a knife fight, I suppose that I would surrender before someone fought me to the death over the idea that Notre Dame should be ahead of Tennessee, but dude, Notre Dame shouldn't still be top five. There's no way I was talking to someone the other day and they were saying, do you think Notre Dame is going to make the playoff with two losses if they lose to Miami? I said, I don't think so. I wouldn't totally rule it out, but I don't think so. And that person said, but how much further are they going to fall if they lose to Miami? And I said, I don't know. I mean, they'd probably fall a few spots. And this person said, yeah, but they wouldn't fall enough to fall out of the playoff. And I said, what do you mean? The playoff rankings aren't even out yet. And this person's stance was, well, yeah, the playoff rankings may not be out, but are the playoff rankings going to be all that different in thinking from the AP? And if the AP, still has Notre Dame at number four, they're not going to fall further before they play Miami. If they play Miami and they're number four and they lose by three points or something like that, do you really think Notre Dame is going to fall from four all the way to like 14 or 15? And I stopped and I said, no, they wouldn't. Side note, that probably means Notre Dame doesn't need to be top four right now. So I looked at mine and I said, I could make the justification they shouldn't even be top 10 with the understanding that certainly I think Notre Dame is one of the 10 best teams in the country, but this is not about what you think or what you predict. It's about what's happened so far. What do we know? We know Notre Dame is still going to play the number two team. And if they beat them, they'll, they'll vault right back up there. Also, if nothing changes, they're going to play another top 25 team in SMU. So again, they've got plenty enough meat left on the table. So I think it should be number four right now off of brand. I think it should be based on resume. Next up, these SEC teams are extremely hard to gauge because of what the entire nature of that conference is like right now. The hardest thing to me is gauging the early season results. So Tennessee's at number nine. Their loss was to Texas. Texas at the time was number one in the country. Now they're down. We've got them at 22. I can't remember what the AP had them at, like lower teens probably. So you have to, you have to do two things. Firstly, you have to kind of figure out, well, where are these teams right now? If I think Tennessee's hitting their stride right now, do I disproportionately weight their ranking towards what I think they are now? And then the number two part is Tennessee's resume and everyone's resume to an extent is continually in a state of flux because the teams they beat, but especially the teams they lost to could be going on to lose games themselves. IE Texas, former number one is now number 22. So Tennessee can't say our only loss was to the number one team in the country by a field goal. Now it's to, well, barely top 25, Texas beat us in our own building. And it's, it's hard to do. And then you get the whole head to head thing in your mind and you're trying to honor all of this and you can't. And so I'm doing the best I can with this. We got a bunch of SEC teams, but they're not scattered all over the place. Florida's 21, Auburn's 24, Texas, 22, Missouri, 19 Bama 17. I don't know. I don't know what to do with them right now. They're just, you could argue to shift any of those right now. And I probably wouldn't argue back really hard. Uh, the big 12 has four of the top 13 teams in the country. So rubber's about to meet the road in the big 12 starting this weekend, Houston goes to Utah. We're going to talk about that game in a second. Especially if Houston beats Utah, then you get another step further down the road of having what I'm calling the big 12 doomsday scenario in play, which is where Texas tech Brigham, young Utah, and Houston all finished with zero losses or one loss. And that's just a nightmare for the playoff committee because you're going to be comparing them inevitably to some three loss SEC team. And you got a bunch of folks out there who believe you are what your record says you are. And they'll always believe that because that is their sporting worldview and they will never be able to justify even having the comparison conversation between a nine and three team and an 11 and one team. So I think we're giving proper respect right now to those big 12 teams, even as some people on the streets call us big 12 haters, but clearly not in the commissioner's poll, but there's still a long way to go. How many times have we talked about all these hypotheticals in mid to late October? And then in November, we're laughing that a month ago, we're laughing that a month ago, we were talking about a hypothetical that never even came close to actual existence, but that's the commissioner's poll for this week. More to come. Stay tuned. I couldn't help, but see a wayward tweet pop up in that segment just a second ago. Go ahead and pop it up now, Bradley, while I put my chapstick on. So someone hit me, uh, you know, ball hit me and said, have you seen that kid on Tik TOK making pretty videos of you? Well, the staff brought it to my attention today. I briefly ran my eyes over it today. My better judgment is to just move on right now at this point in the show and go on to our next topic. Jesse thinks we should watch the video. So I'm going to let you play the video, but I do not want you to go full screen. I want you to double box me. So if I throat slash this, which is not a penalty on our show, if I throat slash it, Bradley, just take the video down. Go ahead and roll it. I think if there is a sizable enough iceberg and if the crow's nest overlooks this iceberg, and if there is a ship nearby with their radios turned off, then maybe just maybe the Titanic finds herself in a look ahead spot. If all that occurs, this ship could go down real hard, real fast immunity. Could all that take place? Well, let's hear what the model, what this here model thing. Thanks. Would you believe me if I told you this model not only takes the Atlantic Ocean to cover the spread, but it actually thinks the wrong team is favored. Am I reading this right, Jesse? This model thinks the iceberg will take down the undefeated Titanic. I say this model is on drugs. He's not wrong. It's not a bad breakdown. not wrong. I don't know how to feel about it. It's new. It's still a new feeling. You ever have that person in your life? I asked you this earlier. Do you ever have that person in your life like you don't like them, but you love them? I feel that way about that kid right now. I don't like him, but I love him. His name is Braden. And you know what? I say this to Braden. We're watching you too. We are watching you as well. We love all of our viewers. Next up, what a game. Salt Lake City, Utah, Saturday night at 1015 Eastern on ESPN. We got Houston and Utah. This is a knucklecracker. You need to lock in. This is sort of like a playoff game. It's especially, I think, a playoff game for Houston because Utah has more wiggle room. They're still undefeated. Utah has the longest active win in the history of baseball. in FBS. Did you know that? It's 12 straight games. That's a good trivia question for you guys if you go to a party tomorrow night. Houston has not beaten an AP top 10 team on the road since 2009. That was Oklahoma State. So we're looking at all kinds of different potential history-making outcomes here. So Utah, most of us watching this show probably have watched Utah already this year. Maybe the more casual crowd hasn't watched Utah a whole lot. Well, they have the same top 20 rushing attack that they normally do, but their passing numbers are way better this year than they have been in the past. Now, the caveat to all this is some dude's going to be standing in the corner saying, yeah, but who have they played? They do have a strength of schedule in the 100s right now. Is that FPI, Jesse? Yeah, so like FPI strength of schedule would have them in the 100s. Make of that what you will. But what I care about is they have not faced a top 50 run defense so far. Houston is number six in the country in that department. So we finally find out, can someone force Utah to be more one-dimensional than anyone else has so far this year? On the flip side, if Houston's going to pull this off, you got a pass D ranked in the 120s right now. Utah, can they take advantage of that? Do they not take advantage of that so much? I think they can, man, because Utah's got one, two, three. They got five different pass catchers over to 200 yards. Braden Pegan, really, really good wide receiver one. So offensive profile looks good here for Utah. So on the other side, six and a half point underdog here, Houston on the road. How do they do it? Two things. They got to win strength on strength. Houston's got a really good ground game and Utah's got a really good run D. Doesn't matter. You got to win that or at least you got to be good enough there. Don't be coming home with 2.7 yards per carry and saying, man, we couldn't run the ball. You got to at least win some there. So that Conor Wegman can do his thing. You can make a really solid argument. He's been the best quarterback in the Big 12 this year. If not outright, it's like 1A, 1B with him and Mestemaker right now. 26 touchdowns, two interceptions. Utah has seen one top 50 passing offense so far this year and it was Kansas and Kansas threw for over 330 yards on them. So really what we're asking ourselves here is everything that is painted on this wall here, this mural about Utah, how much of it is just purely authentic? How much of it is a product of not having played stiff competition so far? It's hard to really find a lot of room in the margins because they're both top 10 on third down. They're both top 30 in red zone touchdown rate. Here's where I think the difference is potentially here. It's a great home field out there with Utah. It's a good team in Utah. There's more desperation on the side of Houston. I would give the staffing edge to Houston. They're back edge to Houston. I love the physical element that Houston brings, although they'll meet one themselves in Utah. But the model looks at the fan duel line, which is Utah minus six and a half. It's a little bit shorter. Model says Utah minus five. I'm going way further than that. I am going to take Houston plus six and a half. I am adding that as a Ramen Noodle Express best bet, which Prez, I didn't actually tell you before the show. My bad. Tune into Friday Night Lines and I'll add it officially, but I'm going to add it. I think Houston's going to win the game outright. So I am absolutely looking at this Big 12 picture and saying maybe we come out of the weekend with four bona fide playoff caliber teams at least, pending that there are no big upsets. I made fun of other people's throat itches and tickles so much earlier this week. I'm starting to develop one. Not like in the past, though. Do you remember in the past? We've had some wicked throat tickles in the past. Big immunity there. Just massive amounts of immunity. So a lot of you are out there driving around right now, or you're working out, or you're jogging, whatever you're doing. And you're like, man, I got an idea. I know you do. We've got a bright audience. I want to tell you about Lovable. We are partnering with Lovable. Now, you might think to yourself, that sounds nice, but what is Lovable? So here's how this works. You got an idea. You describe what you want, just plain English or whatever language you speak. And then Lovable plans and designs and builds and iterates it with you. And so if I wanted to put together a model, if I wanted to put together interactive depth charts, if I wanted to put together an interactive mood tracker for each fan base, I go to Lovable. They say, well, that's a cool idea. And then they assist you in building it. And when you're ready to launch, they provide back-end infrastructure to run and govern the software. That you've built, but it's yours. So you may be sitting right there thinking, or maybe you've been sitting there for a while thinking, I'd love if someone did this, or man, someone should make this. Well, that just means you should make it. And we did that. We're doing that a lot with some of our internal products, some of which we'll use on the show very soon. But we do that with Lovable. It's the fastest way to go from idea to live product to being able to play something in people's hands. Because at that point, your imagination is the only limit. So you can go to Lovable.com to start building today. You'll see a lot of those products on our show in the near future. You got to give Bruce and the guys credit. They're Republicans. They don't give a shit about anything. On this season of Drilled, Carbon Cowboys, the story of how the ethanol, kingpin of Iowa, became the king of corn in Brazil, and what it tells us about the limits of technology and markets to solve the climate crisis. And on the Questlove show, I've been sitting down with some really interesting people. And I've got two recent episodes you should check out. Someone's going to try to sing Leave Get Out or Too Little Too Late or Baby It's You. I also caught up with Wild 267 for a conversation that covered his story, his perspective, and plenty more. I don't even call it cheat day. That's a life day. Go Wednesday. This is what you do. Sleep later. Make a reservation for the rest of our later. Just chill. Just enjoy it. It's going to be great. You're going to wake up Wednesday and be like, ah. And those are just two of the many recent episodes of the Questlove show. Listen to the Questlove show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcasts. Peace. Our books are being banned, scanned by AI, and destroyed. I'm Jacquees Peace Thomas, and on this season of the Black Lit Podcast, we're outside asking some of the custodians of our stories, teachers, and our modern day writers why. They don't want a whole bunch of little Ella Bakers, Malcolm X's, and Martin Luther King's running around. They want to build children who have no empathy. So is the war on literacy and information or our ability to connect? Know how sexy reading is and how fun it could be and not always associated with education. And that is the beauty of reading. Playoffs are here. And while the games will be spread across seven different channels and streaming services, you only need one podcast to keep up to date on all the action. Good Game with Sarah Spain is the only daily podcast for all your WNBA needs. Be the smartest fan at the sports bar by learning all the W stories, stakes, stats, and stars, and hear from top players and coaches about their pregame routines, the pressure of playoff basketball, and the moments that define legacies. Can we actually compete for a championship? And I think the answer is yes. You know, the best part about StubBuds is parents have come up to me, thank you, you helped my relationship with my daughter so much. It goes a lot further than you would think. Every time you underestimate a UConn player, it comes at your own peril. You know, when you talk about women's sports, it's like Prego spaghetti sauce. It's in there. You know that commercial? It's in there. You name it, it's in there. Want to know what's really going on in the WNBA? We got you. Listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's time. Quick cough. Very quick cough. It's the last show of the week, Jess. We'll be fine. Friday night lines could be rough, but you know, it's the last show of the week. Okay, the viewer's guide for week eight. We got to be strategic here. The noon window, it'll be on us before we know it. To me, the noon window, as far as it relates to your main screen, this is a matter of preference. There is no clear-cut number one, got to be on the home screen no matter what game. Maybe you fancy Pitt versus Miami. That's a noon kickoff on ESPN. But you could be looking and saying, I think that's a blowout. You may be right. Maybe you think Indiana at Michigan, huh? Is Kurt Cignetti really going to lose back-to-back games? The Tommy Carr era. Is this just a total rebirth for Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines? Well, that's a big noon kickoff on Fox. And then maybe you're thinking, nah, neither one of those is going to deliver like this LSU-Auburn game. That's a noon kickoff on ABC. So to me, you've got several options for your main screen here. I think we have to. Monitor this game at noon on FS1, though. Do not lose sight of Texas Tech-Cincinnati. At the very least, you've got to watch that one. And if Texas Tech gets out to the lead, okay. Then you just periodically check in on it. But that's the kind of game that happens every single Saturday where there's like a double-digit underdog up 10-0 early, up 7-0 early. And you're like, all right, well, that's going to be part of my life for the next three hours. That kind of game could be that. Jesse, any interest in Rice versus FAU on ESPN? On ESPN2 at noon? Some interest. Okay. Yeah, not me personally, but some interest. Midday window. Your main screen, I'm very selfish here, I'm very biased, has to be on the cockpit. It has to be on Williams-Brice Stadium. Tennessee at South Carolina will be there on the sideline. Wall-to-wall sunshine. Sold-out crowd. Going to be awesome. South Carolina opened as a dog. They are now a two-and-a-half-point favorite. That is main screen material. That's state material. But it's also main. Now, on your second screen, this is where you start to get flexible. You've got A&M at Alabama. I don't really care what the point spread on that is. I just assume it's going to be a knife fight until otherwise stated. That's a 3-30 ABC game. You have to closely monitor this top game here, top left. BYU at UCF. That is 3-30 on Fox. You look at that and you say, that's an afterthought of a game. No, it's not. We already talked about this earlier. BYU in the biggest letdown spot you could possibly be in. They have to travel cross-country. They're going to Orlando. UCF's off a bye. So, we've got to keep an eye on that. At the very least, got to keep an eye on it. Florida-Rosedale? Oh, we can't see them. Bradley, can you go full screen for just a second? I just want to be able to screenshot it. The tickle. The tickle's back, Jesse. Florida-Rosedale, also happening in that same window. That's FS1. Hey, there are big implications on this, by the way. Like, I don't know if you've talked to your wife and kids about this yet, but Iowa is a Dark Horse playoff contender. So, Minnesota could ruin all that. Then in the primetime window, is it going to happen? Like, is Texas going to lose this game? 7-30 on ABC. We've got Ole Miss-Texas. Texas is the three-and-a-half point favorite. Number, you thought it was going to be like up and down. Has not moved all week. Virginia Tech-Clemson should be a premier game. That's the life we should be living. We're not living that life. But, Clemson's a two-and-a-half point favorite, and there have been a couple of weeks here where all the noise around Clemson died down. It could get turned up really quick. If James Franklin goes in there, and you know he wants a signature win in year one. That's a 7-o'clock kickoff. That's a 7-o'clock kickoff on ESPN. Clemson's a two-and-a-half point favorite. USC at Wisconsin. What would you think the number on that is? That's a 7-30 NBC game. USC's a two-and-a-half point favorite. Like, USC's right in the middle of this playoff picture, too, in the Big Ten. They're right in the middle of the Big Ten title picture. And you know what they do next week, right? USC comes home to take on Ohio State next week. Big look-ahead spot. So that's your prime time window. Your late window. There are those amongst us who would tell you that the two biggest games of the day are in the late window. I'm not going to go as far as to disagree. North Dakota State is at New Mexico. That's a 10-P Eastern time kick on the CW. And Houston plays Utah at 10-15 Eastern on ESPN. That is a very, very hardy late window sampling there. I wish I could say the same for the Friday night slate. The Friday night slate, I think the biggest drama here is which game are we going to pick to have Friday night lines at halftime of. I'm leaning Duke versus Virginia right now. That's the ESPN game. But other than that, like, hey, UMass is on the Ramen Noodle Express. So there's big rooting interest there. But that's just, that's a thin Friday night slate. Air Force is at Wyoming later. Stanford is playing host to NC State at 10-30 Eastern time. That's a 10-30 body clock kick for Dave Dorn and company. So that's your Week 8 Viewer's Guide. That Friday window, it disappoints me. I want more there. I never say that walking out a quick trip. Jesse, you've known me a long time. You've known me to go and visit several quick trips. There's no plural there, just quick trips. Have I ever left? I'm just saying, man, I wanted more. Absolutely not. Because they got me taken care of from the pump to the counter. You know what else they got? Crispy snacks. Cold brew on tap, which is not crispy. And then chicken tenders and onion rings and tater tots. Gooey. Mozzarella sticks. Gooey and crispy. Quick Trip has been a partner of ours for a long time. Quick Trip Joe, dear friend of ours. He doesn't exactly own the company, although the way I talk about him on the show makes it sound like he does own the company. But legally, I have to say, I don't own the company. I don't have to tell you he does not. He's just a friend of the program. You guys are going to be all over the country this week. You're all over the country every day. You live your life. Just make sure that you fuel and then replenish at Quick Trip. We had a question. Yes, we did. I was making sure it was here. We had a hot seat question. Oh, I was just trying to see if there was any liquid left in here. I just need like, yeah, it looks about three drops here. That's about what I need right now. Just three drops. So that'll do it. Just enough to just enough to saturate, moisten the vocal cords. Yeah. So, Bob. They were going to help the country. And then on a gold rush. They're Republicans. They don't give a shit about anything else. On this season of Drilled, Carbon Cowboys. The story of how the ethanol kingpin of Iowa became the king of corn in Brazil. And what it tells us about the limits of technology and markets to solve the climate crisis. It's Questlove. I caught up with my good friend Jojo to talk about her music, her career and what she's been up to. Someone's going to try to sing Leave, Get Out or Too Little Too Late or Baby It's You. Oh, no. And I'm going to be like, OK, cool. I also caught up with Wallo267 for a conversation that covered his story, his perspective and plenty more. That's a life day. Go Wednesday. This is what you do. Sleep later. Just chill. Just enjoy it. You're going to wake up. Wake up Wednesday and be like, oh, you're going to feel better. Peace. Peace, Thomas. And on this season of the Black Lit Podcast, we're outside asking some of the custodians of our stories, teachers and our modern day writers why they don't want a whole bunch of little Ella Bakers, Malcolm X's and Martin Luther King's running around. Be the smartest fan at the sports bar by learning all the W stories, stakes, stats and stars. And hear from top players and coaches about their pregame routines, the pressure of playoff basketball and the moments that define legacies. You know, the best part about stuff is parents have come up to me. Thank you. You helped my relationship with my daughter so much. It's in there. You know, commercials like it's in there. We got you. Listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. From Westboro, Massachusetts, college football hotbed. He said the first domino has fallen. Mike Loxley at Maryland. But do we think we see chaos with coaching firings this year? Is there any way to match the madness from last year? There's always a way. So let's let's set the table here right quick. As best I understand it. Here's the picture as we enter week eight. Mike Loxley just got fired at Maryland. OK, there was a lot of talk early in the year about Shane Beamer. Everything's always fluid, but I think Shane's OK right now. And especially if they win this weekend, he's very, very much OK. But like I'm not thinking anything's imminent with him. I don't think anything's imminent with Mike Norvell. I think for several weeks now, the actual temperature behind the scenes has been a lot different than the temperature that the general public would assume. There again, nobody speaks in definitives on this stuff because it is prone to wild swings in emotion. Any blowout loss at any point could just throw everything into chaos. So I'm I'm telling you right here, right now. I think Beamer's OK. I think Mike Norvell's OK. Truthfully, I thought with how bad Baylor was last week, I expected to hear on Sunday and Monday. Aranda's done. That is not what I heard. So I'm not saying. He's safe, but by no means do I think Dave Aranda is done at Baylor. I think Syracuse probably makes a move. I think there could be some movement in NC State with Dave Doering. I don't necessarily know that that's just like firing or anything like that. TCU, you know, with Sonny Dykes, you still got to watch that. But the question there, the follow up question was, is there any way that it gets as wild as it did last year? So by this point last year, we already had seven headcounts. Coaching firings last year was insane. Like last year, we were already looking at coaching searches going to happen at Penn State, at Florida, LSU, Auburn. It was insanity. My guess is we don't approach that level of chaos this cycle. However, you know, as well as I do, it only takes one or two trigger moments at the right program to throw the entire sport into chaos. So right now, Texas. This is a very special circumstance because you don't know how those people would handle losing a couple of more games. Do you have no idea? I have no idea. That's why we have to take Texas and put it on a shelf by itself. Because if there was movement, I don't I don't. It's everywhere from Sark goes to the NFL to Sark gets fired to you never know. Maybe they can win and it's a moot point, but that would be a keystone trigger moment in a sense that it would affect the entirety of college. College football, the ripple would reach far and wide because if Texas needs a head coach, Texas is going and taking a current premier head coach, which means that job opens and so on and so forth. Secondly, you don't know what's going to happen at USC right now. USC six and one total moot point. But USC is another special circumstance. I know how big the buyout is. I know all that. OK, this is not me telling you anything's going to happen. The question was, could we have that kind of chaos? And I'm giving you the scenarios where we would. We have that kind of chaos. Texas opening would be a bomb. USC opening would be a bomb. Whoever USC targets, probably Kalen DeBoer in that case. If that were to happen, that's its own separate bomb. If it didn't happen and then USC needed to go elsewhere, wherever they go, like obviously that's another keystone type movement. And then the other thing I wonder about is, is there anything that's going to happen at Michigan? Now, the thing at Michigan, it wouldn't be to me, at least. It wouldn't be Kyle Whittingham's on the hot seat or anything like that. To me, the only way that that would happen would be if both parties sort of just mutually realized, I don't, I don't know, man, maybe this just wasn't the right fit. There's Kyle Whittingham may not be thinking anything along those lines, or maybe he is. So those are the three, the Texas, the USC, the Michigans of the world. Any of those open and it's game on. Multiples of those open. Then yes, mushroom cloud time. But as of right now, I don't think that we're going down that road with the caveat that it's week eight. So hit me again in week 10 and who knows what's happened by them. Would you like $3,900, Jesse? Everybody would, right? So I've got a way that 127 of you collected $3,900 last week. And that is you went to FanDuel and you played the absolute free pick'em contest. You could go right now, go over to FanDuel and look for the pick'em contest. College football pick'em every week. Myself, Will Compton, Taylor LeJuan, we pick 10 games. They're the same 10 games. And you guys are free to do it as well. I want to emphasize free to do as well.
