Week 8 Sleepers & Two-Start Pitchers! (5/9 Fantasy Baseball Podcast)

Two star pitchers and sleeper hitters for week eight up next on fantasy baseball today express What's the man to empty to express on Saturday May 9th? I am for example join by Scott White Let's start off with the week eight schedule 26 teams with six games next week. We have four teams with seven games that includes the Astros Dodgers Mariners and Giants if you are Wondering about the Rockies for next week. They have six games including Three at home in course field and then three on the road So I think every week has been divided for them so far. It feels that way, huh? Star set these two start pitchers. We have Ryan Weathers at the Orioles at the Metz He's coming off an illness that calls him to lose nine pounds and he missed his start this week as a result of it So I wonder like Rust fatigue. I don't know. What do you think? Yeah, there are risks but I think you still start Ryan Weathers with two starts They'll have had extra time to rest up by that point Yeah, I think it'll the Metz matchups really good right now too. So yeah, I'd start Weathers Yuri Perez continues to struggle with the walks. He is at the twins and at the raise next week It's not a must which would have surprised me at the start of the year if you told me a two-star Yuri Perez would be anything less than must start but I Still think I still think you got to do it in most cases too much upside Mike Soroka the Jekyll and Hyde matchups at Texas at the Rockies and course field Yeah Yeah, that Rockies matchup can sometimes still pay off handsomely even at course field So I would say Sorokas pretty much a yes as well Sunny Grave the ground ball merchant this year he gets the Phillies at home and at the Atlanta Braves So I think I could only do that in points leagues since there is zero There's been zero strikeout production so far this year and There's some downside risk that comes with that with the ERA and the whip but you don't worry about it so much at points leagues You just want the volume Bailey Ober coming off a bad start after a you know a stretch of pretty good ones for him He gets the Marlins and the Brewers hasn't been a lot of strikeout production there either But he's managed to survive it. I think you could do Bailey Ober in a points league, but I wouldn't Do it in anything else and I saw that you have JR Richie on your list of two-star pitchers Do you actually think he makes two starts to stop coming week? I don't know I kind of thought he'd get sent down after his last start I don't know what's going on with Grant Holmes because Martin Perez took his turn this last time and Holmes is nowhere on the schedule as of now so I it's it's really confusing Obviously if JR Richie has a bad start next time out it'll be pretty easy to send him down Yeah, it's risky for sure. I could see doing it in a points league, but it's risky All right, who are some two-star pitchers that you are looking to add and stream for this upcoming week? I don't have many two-star options But I do have a few Joey Cantillo. I think he's taken up permanent residents here in the streamer pitchers And for the most part it hasn't gone well the strikeouts have been down for him change up still plays well And so You know obviously we're choosing for bad pitchers to begin with Angels and Reds are the matchups those are pretty good angels can sometimes backfire But they still are the most straight-out prone team in baseball So hopefully they'll help Cantillo get back on track as far as that goes Peter Lambert has been Curiously effective so far. I don't have a ton of faith in it But his matchups are the Mariners and the Rangers which are pretty favorable So it might not be a bad time to gamble on Peter Lambert Jeffrey Springs has been very solid For the athletics again, I don't have a lot of trust in it continuing But the matchups are good enough Cardinals and Giants Giants I think of the lowest scoring team at baseball as if this recording. Oh yeah by substantial margin they are um And then finally Andre Palante who does occasionally appear among the streamer pitchers not a lot of upside there but You know if you don't mind At ERA on the high side he I guess for points leaks is more the recommendation Andre Palante like he Pretty good at getting quality starts a great ground ball guy kind of a high floor Pitcher as long as you don't mind that that high floor means any RA over four athletics and royals very good matchups there All right, let's take a quick break when we return. We are here previewing week eight It's got who are some one-star streamers at starting pitcher that you like Yeah, I like the one-star guys Lambert and two-star guys for this week. So Max Meyer I don't feel like he should be available enough to qualify for this list I guess he technically has just one quality start because most of his outings have been on the shorter side But they've been effective and he's been missing a lot more bats with that slider sweeper combo. He gets the twins We actually have been fairly high scoring so far, but you look at the roster and it's like how I think in the longer they're going to be a good matchup I'm not sure matters as effective as Max Meyer's been you start him anyway Sean Burke against the royals good matchup pitcher who's been rolling lately Logan Henderson he also gets that twins matchup and You know presuming the brewers don't send him down again, which they have a knack for doing He's been close to camp mess between this year and last year when he gets a chance in the majors. So I like Henderson Mitch Keller Curiously effective so far he gets the Rockies in Pittsburgh always like that Ryan Nelson he's kind of taken a permanent residence here apart from that one start in Mexico City high elevation that killed him but Take that start out and he's been trending the right way Otherwise he gets the Rangers and then read thatmer's gets the Guardians He has what is it a new change up this year that's been really effective and I think it'll pay dividends in the long run if nothing else makes a may frequent streamer pick read themers all right. Let's slide over to the hitters the best matchups for next week We have the Mariners debacks royals athletics and nationals the worst hitter matchups potteries fillies Ashrose tigers and twins who are your favorite sleeper hitters for week number eight Jack caglione Has been heating up and the royals have the third best matchups as you mentioned only one left-hander on the schedule this week This also works to the benefit of Carter Jensen Who I've recommended a couple times here recently it hasn't gone well, but still hits the ball very hard striking out a little too much this year But still has the ball very hard has a lot of power. I think as long as the matchups are good you should stick with Carter Jensen So caglione and Jensen both here. I also like Carlos Cortez but the athletics you mentioned they have the fourth best matchups Just one left-hander on the schedule for them too that would be the concern with Cortez. He sits against lefties But he hits the ball hard Strikes out basically never All all six of the athletics games are at home too the the most hitter friendly venue so far this year Um, so another reason to like Carlos Cortez Couple red hitters here Nate low and JJ blit day have They recently entered the lineup but both have been killing it so far I Low has played every day so the lefties haven't been an issue there blit day We've only seen them face one lefty since he got called up Now we're recording this Thursday night only one lefty since blit day was called up And he sat out that game there are two lefties on the schedule for the reds this week So that makes me a little iffy ompliday but the matchups are good enough He's hot enough that I think he still deserves spot on this list Gotta get a diamond back sitter in here with them having the second best hitter matchups including a series It cures fields so I'm going with Gabriel Marano recently returned from the high-el only 40% rostered Thought about Lordis Geryl That's a possibility as well But he didn't quite make the cut here on my 10 sleeper hitters because Four mariners did Four mariners with them having the most favorable hitter matchups They're one of just four teams playing seven games and all seven are against right handers So that works out well for dominant canzone and luke Rayley who sit against the lefties but have great Characteristics otherwise And it also works to the benefit of jp Crawford who's been heating up and coal young Who's been a little up and down but again most favorable hitter matchups seven games all righties I think we got to put coal young on here again All right for more extensive fantasy baseball coverage listen to our full-length podcast fantasy baseball today on spotify apple podcasts or anywhere else podcasts are found Thanks for listening to fantasy baseball today express and we'll be back again next week.
