Week 7 Preview + Mid Season Awards + 1 on 1 with Will Stein & Jordan Davis | The BFW Show 10.14.26
1h 48m 41s
Brandon Walker presents a detailed mid-season college football analysis on his show, focusing on key awards like the Heisman, Coach of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year. He identifies Jeremiah Smith as the top Heisman contender, citing potential threats from CJ Carr, Darian Menta, and Keeling Russell, while noting Gunner Stockton’s strong team performance doesn’t translate to Heisman viability. For Coach of the Year, Bob Chesney of UCLA is leading, with several emerging coaches like Will Stein and Kirk Farrance viewed as second-half threats. The scariest defense of the year is Georgia, with Oklahoma and Notre Dame/Miami as possible challengers. The segment includes in-depth game previews—such as Indiana vs. Ohio State and Missouri vs. Ole Miss—where Walker evaluates team strengths, offensive and defensive dynamics, and matchup implications. He stresses balanced, inclusive coverage, rejecting bias toward the SEC and highlighting underappreciated programs. The show also integrates promotional content, featuring product placements for Ryobi outdoor power tools and Venmo debit cards, linking consumer products to football culture. A fan engagement segment highlights super fans like Jordan Davis and Will Stein, blending personal passion with strategic analysis. The discussion reflects a mix of prediction, critique, and community interaction, offering fans a comprehensive and entertaining look at college football’s mid-season landscape.

What the hell was that this is why I told you guys in the chat not to make fun of the intro a question the Russian fighter just in the intro because Quicks was always going to do something I did what whatever he wants that could have been all into state highlights that could have been that could have been anything I could have even been about I bet I don't know what to say welcome to the brand of Walker calls for ball show so clearly our Saturday night show which is average in about 130,000 viewers is is in trance we're doing that every Saturday night our Monday night show is doing well to and it to Wednesday well become comes out on on Wednesday nights at 6 and I thought let's just try it later tonight let's try it 7 30 we're still experimenting with the with the Wednesday night format what works best for us I do think there's a room for a later at night one so that might be something maybe we every now then we do a nine o'clock I don't know but right now we're try 7 30 central 8 30 it ain't that big I got a kid closer but I don't want to call his name out up there's the closer kid oh hey time can you give me those sheets right there on the pool table yeah those sheets those sheets the sheets of paper they're writing for yeah those sheets thank you are you asleep what what's what do you what's your plan with your hairs on come here come here let America see your hair what what's your plan with your hair what what's what's your plan with your hair all right go ahead so sassy I don't know man a kid right there my wife let yesterday was like the kids the boys want to grow their hair out and I'm going to let them I say I don't care what they do with their hair and then whatever college football hello to everyone this is what I have planned for our first segment Liam and I haven't told you about this on wake up bar still today I did my mid season awards for that show and since you know that couple dozen people watch that show I decided to bring them out here tonight and not only am I doing I'm going to do my mid season awards I also want to explore the second half threats to such awards like for example my mid season Heisman is Jeremiah Smith but who is a second half threat to that award and I'll I'll just go ahead and dive right in there if we're doing the Heisman for the first six games of season the first half I think it is Jeremiah Smith and I think it is not particularly close I think he is he would be unanimous at this point in my mind I don't know who would vote against Jeremiah Smith for Heisman trophy now over the next six games who are some guys that can threaten his standing as the Heisman trophy winner I wrote down three and I wrote down Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr Miami quarterback quarterback Darian Menta and Alabama quarterback Keeling Russell Keeling Russell just struggled for the first time this year when he lost to Georgia at home but he's not going to play Georgia every week and Alabama still going to be in some big games including this weekend against Tennessee at LSU later he's going to have several big spots to prove himself if he proves himself like he did against Mississippi he's back in the mix CJ Carr and Darian Menta both have the same issue right now they've been playing nobody's in front of nobody like most of course football isn't really paying that much attention yet because they don't have to well CJ Carr hits the big time this week when they go on the road to BYU and then he has Miami in a couple of weeks and Darian Menta with the same thing he's got Notre Dame in a couple of weeks I would say Tony too and Tony's been good Tony's been very good I don't know that Tony in the last three or four weeks has been loud enough to maintain pace with Jeremiah Smith and the Heisman race now he could always get in it he's a loud player but that's what I've got I've got CJ Carr Darian Menta and Keeling Russell did I miss anybody and would you vote for anybody else in mid season Heisman? I would I had three names I had three different names I think I could be an idiot Darian Menta drew Mestermaker and Jesse LaGrey Jesse LaGrey if he were to sustain that pace and Jeremiah Smith were to you know take it out take his foul to get what you were going to really be that just be better defensively but whatever Jesse LaGrey of his season if that guy asked 23 receiving touchdowns and how are many yards yards per catch on et cetera et cetera like he will finally get more love from Heisman voters I guess a true Mestermaker is now being talked about as QB1 in this class finally Oklahoma State where to win 11 games get the big 12 championship he is in contention there and Darian Menta nobody seems to care that this guy does have 15 touchdown passes zero interceptions is complaining like eight percent of his throws I mean I did just say Darian Menta so that was my mistake I have a bad brain Okay now there's one other guy I would like to talk about here because his team's fans will probably be in this chat in a second if they haven't already they'll be raising their hand they'll say what about our guy what about this guy and it's Gunner Stockton of Georgia and he did just get the biggest one of the biggest wins of the season by going on the road and beating Alabama to me and I don't think this is insult I don't think he is a I don't think he's a Heisman trophy guy meaning the Heisman trophy is the award for the best individual player in college football he's not going to have the stats of the season and he's not going to have the highlights he is simply a very good quarterback on what could be the best team and he's probably the best quarterback for Georgia and he is a quarterback he can win the national title but when it comes to me crowning the best individual I'm not sure I'm ever going to look at Gunner Stockton say that's the best player on the field until the fourth quarter it's third and nine you need nine yards and he throws a 10 yard dart and it's amazing because he's a winner there are winners and there's Heisman trophy winners I'd rather have a winner as my quarterback Heisman trophy is that mixture of great player moments talent highlights like hype all of that and I don't think you can describe that hype to Gunner Stockton the way he plays he's a dog he's a he's a down and dirty dog that gets you what you need to win football games he's very much like stats and Bennett was and he just wasn't a Heisman guy that's what I believe he's just you have to have some flash to win some votes and I don't see that he's going to get it go ahead yeah I didn't say him for a reason either he's a national championship like winner that's what he is built for that is what he was
wants to do. Like you said, he's not the best player in college football. He's not the best quarterback in college football. But again, I echo, how many other quarterbacks would you even take over him? I think it's maybe two, maybe three. I want him as one of my first picks because I know what he brings to the table. But yeah, he's not a Heisman guy. That's fine. He doesn't need to be a Heisman guy. Georgia fans shouldn't care about him being a Heisman guy or not. Go in a national championship. That's what matters, bud. That's a very good way to put it. He's I don't know if he'll ever win the award for best individual player in the country. But the number of quarterbacks I would pick ahead of him is very short. Yeah. Remarkably short. All right. How about the coach of the year so far, the mincees and coach of the year, I have Bob Chesney UCLA. I think he's been fantastic. It goes on the road the other day. They're burning the boats are doing all these great things. Liam Blutman's hanging out with him. The second half threats that could take this coach of the year award. Now obviously they lose to Wisconsin. They lose coming down the stretch of some teams. You fall out that race a little bit. But as of right now, I got Bob Chesney in the lead. He is the mincees and coach of the year. Here are the three guys are the I wrote down four guys as threats to to his coach of the year. Is that going? No, he's got it. I wrote down Will Stein Kentucky. How far would this little run go? I wrote down Eric Morris Oklahoma state. I wrote down David Braun North Western and I wrote down. This is a wild card. I'm about to say, Liam, this is a very wild card. All the others are young coaches or new coaches. Who do you think I have written down here in this four spot? I don't know. Is it this is this year? Fendables Oklahoma deal again? No, I wrote down Will Stein Eric Morris, David Braun and Kirk Farrance. I will. Kirk Farrance Iowa. If they get through this 11 and one and they're in the playoff and you've survived a season, you came to the season thinking Oregon was going to be great. Michigan was going to be good. All these teams are going to be good in the big 10 and there stands Kirk Farrance and Iowa at the end smiling in the playoff. Don't you think he's like in the mix? Oh, 100%. 100%. Not enough for debate. The chance is Willie Fritz. I think that's a terrific addition right there. Willie Fritz. Very good. This little run, disrespectful comment. Guys, if you can't handle something like this little run, you shouldn't be here. I'm not going to go all heel on you. But if you can't handle me saying Will Stein's little run of six games, you really shouldn't be here. Just go go somewhere else. This is going to be a place where I'm in a good mood tonight. I'm not going to like freak out, but like this ain't the place for you. So we got Will Stein, Eric Morris, Kirk Farrance, David Braun, anybody else I missed? Dicker. Yep. Scally. Yeah. Scally, I'm hesitant to add because they go undefeated. That's sure. Sure. Sure. That's the thought. 100%. But that schedule has been just outright bad so far. Yeah. Oh, I'm awesome. You of all the teams who haven't played anybody that are ranked in the top 25. Utah is way up there because they played nobody. Any any other ads right there? You said Scally. Oh, I say Scally, Dicker. It's a very good one. Fickle. Fickle was the other one. Hmm. That's an interesting and interesting one as well. The scariest defense of the award of the year. I get into the Georgia Bulldogs this morning. That's an award. The scariest defense of the year. That's a great, great award. They should do that. The scariest defense of the year award. I've got Georgia through the first six games. They just scare the shit out of me at every level. They just have monsters. I wrote the second half threats down for this one. I wrote the Oklahoma Sooners. The only way they make a run in the second half is if their defense carries them because they're quarterback so bad and they've got a run here of they're playing some good offense. If they go like shut down Ole Miss and shut down Kamario Taylor and shut down some there. That's going to be a scary ass defense. And then I wrote down Notre Dame in Miami. Notre Dame with maybe as far as NFL draft talent as good a roster as anybody on defense. We haven't had to see it yet because you know, they're just they haven't played football yet. And Miami in the same way. I think Miami's leading the country and scoring defense right now. I think Notre Dame or Miami, whichever one wins that game, you're going to look up and say, Oh, well, this defense was lights out all year. But I still think Georgia will probably be standing at the end thoughts. Yeah. You know where I stand with Georgia. I can't believe we're doing the mid season walkies. This is something I never thought would happen in my life. So I'm just praying for less to be here. And I would have worn a suit had I known. Well, you know, it's just something I did for a while this morning. And I felt like there was a little bit more meat on the bone. And not just not just talking about who's won the mid season, but who can who over the next six weeks? It's really a almost a predictive thing as well. Who are the six weeks can run in this thing? Yeah. Throw throw the BYU defense up there because if they're going to be a playoff team, that defense is going to need to be firing on all cylinders. They've got some signature games coming up, including the one Saturday against C.J. Karenco. So if BYU is going to win, their defense is going to need to be at a high, high level. The defensive player of the year award I have. Oh, here's a good question in chat. Chalutes, 2205. Brandon have Notre Dame wins about 30 this weekend. Should they be ranked number one? No. So the defensive player of the year award I've got Colin Simmons right now leading the country in sacks with nine and a half Texas. The second half threats to that. I only have two. I wrote down Chris Cole from Georgia and I wrote down Leonard Moore from Notre Dame. If you know, Notre Dame gets through, they got BYU, they got Miami. If Leonard Moore has big games in there, maybe has a pick or just shuts down his entire side of the field or does something to Malachi Tony. I think you you open up the conversation right now. Colin Simmons is a defensive player of the year by a mile. Thoughts? A hundred percent. This is where I got mad at you and T-bub on the WUB because well, you didn't do the nominees, but Kingston Lopah, the Cal weapon on defense, not being included was a creatures. He's got five assumptions. I think he had all in the first few games of the season. He's been an absolute weapon. Sammy O. Mosego also has to be up there. But you know, West Coast football West Coast football. And then for the, I wanted to talk this one out with the chat. The fact Walker has a job talking lower to your SEC team just exclusively just, I don't know, man, it's unlikely, but also simply a crime against mankind. Here's here's what I'd like to say. Again, I'm not doing heel to night. I'm just talking to you like normal people. Okay. If if you say I only talk about SEC schools, you're just lying. You're just lying. You're just you're lying or just I don't know what to tell you. I know that I root for an SEC school, but I don't talk about the SEC any more than anything else. I just, you come here. We're going to talk about the entire country. We're going to talk about things that impress me, but we're certainly not going to, you know, just prop up the SEC. I don't I hate the SEC. I'm a Mississippi State fan. They pick on me. Anyway, somebody says, don't forget Xavier Gilliam vols. Yeah, there's plenty of other players to bring up defensively, but a lot of other players, a lot of other players out there. Prince Will. I don't I don't I still haven't learned how to say I'm on my alien. I'm on my line. I'm on my line. We can't speak English. Yonsep here. Yeah. He's got eight sacks like like there's a lot of guys. The guy from Missouri. I apologize. Missouri fans. He escapes my, he escapes my mind right now, but the difference of in from Missouri is fantastic. I tell you how you got lately. Oh, I botched that. Yeah. Listen, if you come here, you're going to see us not just talking about the SEC and you're going to see us botch names. Oh my gosh. That's what we're going to do here. That's what the brand of all calls for ball show is all about botching names. What would you say? And I want the chance to weigh in here. What would you say so far? I tried to come up with this award and I just wrecked my brain. What's been the game of the year so far? And I came up with Alabama. Georgia was a pretty good game. Texas Ohio State was a really good game. I thought Ole Miss Louisville was a fantastic game. I just I can't get over the sense that I'm just fucking missing one. Ole Miss Louisville. Yeah, it was pretty good. We won. That's what I said. I know like I'm echoing that like that, that really might be it. It's way out there. It's 4138. You know, some have been so good in their own ways. Like Michigan Iowa last two minutes was crazy, but the game itself, you wouldn't, you wouldn't write home about somebody says Oregon Oklahoma State. Baylor Auburn was amazing. That was a solid one. Pit Virginia Tech was a very good one. Thank you very much. Oregon USC. No, what? Vandy NC State. An interesting one. Red River shoot out. I tell you what, Texas Oklahoma was really damn good. Texas Oklahoma was really damn good. Pit VT comes up a couple of times from the chat. Boys you, Oregon was a good one. No, guys, come on. LSU Kentucky was excellent. Yes. Yes. Thank you very much. It was drama throughout that. That was close the entire game. LSU Kentucky might be the leader for me. Michigan, Western Michigan. If that one had a proper ending, imagine you watch all of Star Wars and at the end, Darth Vader just took a shit on Luke Skywalker's forehead. That was the ending to Michigan and Western Michigan for me. Fantastic stuff until the end and somebody took a shit on somebody's forehead and you never want to see that. You just don't. Anyway, let me do some ads and then we'll get into it. We'll dive into the slate of games we have. Will Stein coming up and do you want to go predictive and say what the game of the second half of the year is going to be? Think about that, Bloodman. Think about that while I tell you about ReoB. If you're looking to be.

We're doing this a little bit later. Wednesday night, 7.30. Do you like this time? Do you like it later at night? I'd like for you to tell me what you like. And we want to hone this thing in and figure out exactly what you want. Which coach do you think will be fired first? You know, loxley I feel like should be any day now. Beamer's getting fired. He might have temporarily saved his job. Yeah. Yeah. Here we go. So let's drive into the slate. Lookie, do you have the ball watchers guide? We do. All right. Lookie, throw up screen one of the ball watchers guide. This is Saturday, the early slate, and there's no contest here for the game of the week. That is absolutely Indiana and Ohio State. And the more I think, where did we get these logos? The more the more thing about Indiana, Indiana, Ohio State, Alino, Iowa State for sure. I wonder if I'm being too punitive to Indiana for their complete lack of ability to run the ball against Nebraska. And I don't care what they did against Howard Eastern Kentucky or their cowardice schedule. I don't care about that. But they played two big 10 games. They won one at home. They ran for 271 yards. And they ran for 6.8 yards of carry against Northwestern. And then they ran for three yards of carry. They only ran for 66 yards against Nebraska. So which ones are true Indiana this year is the one that can run the ball against a big 10 opponent is the one that can run the clock is the one that can rely on that running game to keep the ball and keep it away from Ohio State and occasionally hit the big shot to Nick Marsh or Charlie B from Nashville, Tennessee. Is it that one or is it the one that couldn't do anything for two quarters and got two big plays to win the game at Nebraska? Which one do you think it is? But it will no man like I don't either. I don't either. I don't know. I still like I like Ohio State and I like Ohio State for for several reasons. Number one, the Jeremiah Smith factor. I've got no evidence that anybody can slow him down or stop him. I will couldn't nobody's nobody's been able to do it this year. And number two, at Indiana is very tough. It is it is not easy. They're defending national champs. They've won 22 games in a row. But Ohio State did go to Texas already this year. And they blew a big lead in the fourth quarter. But they learned they saw it. They they saw it takes four quarters on the row. They saw a hostile environment. Austin, Texas at night in September is going to be just as hostile as Bloomington, Indiana at noon and mid October. So I think the experience of going down there and taking that loss on the chin is going to help them in this environment this year. Plus they lost a big 10 championship game. And they know in their heart of hearts, they should have won that game. They missed a 21 yard field goal to tie the game to go to overtime. They made so many mistakes. I just think Ohio State slightly better team this year. I think Indiana is a playoff team. Ohio State's a national title caliber team. That's a difference in these two teams to me. What do you think? For the first time all week, this is where I'm starting to reconsider. I felt like Ohio States had this all week. I was pretty surprised. The spread was only three three and a half. I thought Ohio State would be closer to a touchdown, given Indiana has not looked like the Indiana that we've been accustomed to. And now I'm thinking through it while you speak like man, we get on here every week. It didn't matter if it was week one against North Texas or when they played Northwestern or where they just squeaked by Nebraska. We've said, this is not Indian football. This is not Indiana football. When do they pass the test? When do they show up for the exam? Is it in their biggest game of the season by a significant margin? That's the crossroads I'm at. There's nothing about Indiana that inspires confidence in me to invest in them against the best team they'll play on all year aside from the guy who wears that headset and his call on the shots. That's now I'm second guessing everything. Well, I mean, there it is. When you when you say what give me reason to believe in Indiana or win this game is because dignity standing on the sideline that coaching staff has been the same since it got there standing on the sideline. So like you get that and you also you you you you have to in the back of your mind know Ohio State and Ryan's ability to if not completely no show a big game to at least show it to the big game without a killer instinct. So I don't know I still favor Ohio State. I just I'm coming down a little bit. That's all. I'm coming down a little bit. That's what I think. Bring up that graphic again. These 11 o'clock games on Saturday. I do think Josh Hoover is the player to watch this week because if they whether they can run the ball or not, Josh Hoover is still going to be the one that has to make place to win the game. Josh Hoover is still the one that's going to have to hit Charlie B or hit Nick Marsh and Ohio State is going to put pressure on him. They're going to put him on his butt a little bit. How does he respond? How does he answer? He hasn't made the big mistake yet this year. The rap on him was he's a turnover prone mistake machine and that hasn't been the case this year. Of course, he hasn't really faced any defenses that were going to force him to make mistakes. So I don't know. So fascinating game. I just I lean Ohio State but but it's a terrific terrific game. BFW neutral site. Who do you pick? Bama or BYU? I mean, Alabama. I think Alabama is really damn good. I think they're legit top 10 team. I don't think I don't know if BYU is a legit top 10 team. We'll see that very very soon. Pull up the graphic again. Let me see what we got. We got Florida, Texas and then we got Mississippi State LSU. If Camario Taylor plays and is healthy, that's going to be a hell of a game. If Camario Taylor plays and is healthy, Mississippi State can be the LSU. If Camario Taylor plays and is healthy, I'm looking forward to it. I'm not 100% sold. Camario Taylor is going to play in his healthy. Been a lot around the campfire about that. I'm taking a cautious wait and see approach. We've gone to LSU a lot of times in my lifetime and come back with our with our ass in our hand. So just I'm a little nervous about that one. I wrote down a couple more there in that 11 o'clock window. Northwestern and Michigan State. There's nothing about that game that makes you go, oh, that's something I need to watch until you until you just remember who's standing on the sideline for Michigan State. Until you remember how he got out of Northwestern. Until you remember that Michigan State looked like trash all year, but what would get them going more than this right here? Northwestern walking in their building. I think that's one you better keep a fucking eye on because Northwestern is getting a lot of credit. I haven't beaten anybody really and their best their best wins a loss. I think that's one to circle right there. Like just remember on Wednesday night Brandon said Northwestern Michigan State smells like shit. It smells funky Liam. It smells funky. It does smell funky. I like that you brought that up. I like that you're zagging while everyone's sigging with the Northwestern love and I love them too, but that's nice. Then you've got Kansas at Kansas State and you've got Virginia at SMU and not a game that really should be on every TV screen across the country. Until you realize that SMU just as quiet as a church mouse is over there at four and one if they go five and one, you're gonna look up. I know they got the laws on the road of Louisville. You're gonna look up and this is an 11 and one team in six weeks. Yeah, this was when you did the Oklahoma surprise playoff thing on Monday, SMU was the team to me. I think they're like plus 800 plus a 50 or something where I was like, okay, maybe maybe that to your team. But like man, you look at this four and one five and one whatever it is. It hasn't been pretty. It hasn't been impressive. I'm not like I'm watching Missouri state up six nothing right now in Kansas State. Missouri state had SMU on the ropes. Yeah, I think I'm I bet because I'm looking at the chat right now by saying Northwestern has no chance Michigan State's gonna or Northwestern going to kill a mission state has no chance. I might have to live, but I might have to bet that money line in front of y'all right now. Well, you're not gonna be able to. Oh, wait, you know, right. You're right. You're right. You're right. No, you can. Why? Because you don't live in Illinois, right? I live in Illinois. You know, I live in Illinois. I live in Antioch Illinois. Don't be doing that shit. Can I go get a spotted cow in my from my house in three and a half minutes? Sure. I still live in Illinois. Speaking of, let's do some Venmo action right here. Let me tell you something about college. Well, nobody in the sport knows how to do anything halfway. I almost thought that was going to end with just the word anything. And that described this show. You're not going to just go to the game. You're going to make a day of it. You've got the tailgate, the food, the gear, the traditions and somehow your $300 deep before kickoff. Then your buddy finally pays you back for the stuff you bought for everybody. Good. Take that money in your Venmo balance.
and spend it with a Venmo debit master card. Because in College Football, there's always something else to buy. More food, more gear, more cowbells. Liam, what was I about to ask you? What was I about to ask you? So that's a difficult question, I don't know your mind. Yeah, you're right. BFW, not a real brewers fan if you ain't watching the game. I'm not a brewers fan, I'm a raise fan. And I don't know what happens at your house. I don't know if you live in caves. I don't know if you live underground. I'm looking at a camera right now. Right there, I see the brewers. Pat Murphy leaning up Dave Roberts, I'm just, there's a giant 70 inch TV right over there. So I'm monitoring the game. I'm really. Yeah, you know, impressive. I will, I think if they get to the series, I'm gonna go to a game, I'll never end a World Series game. Do you ever end a World Series game? No. Okay, you're not a baseball guy though. Has your brother? Well, I used to be a baseball guy. How do you get out of that? I think I watch too much baseball. You didn't know this? I, Brian, I was like as big of a, to put it bluntly, as big of an autistic seam head as there possibly is. You broke my Tommy news. I broke the Otani news, go into the angels like I was. How do you think I knew McPhill before Barstle? BFW, what team out of the top seven will miss the playoff? Shell Lutz, 22-05, top seven. Is Texas in the top seven? I don't remember off top my head, who's in the top seven? Let's see, going through it, you know, Georgia's not missing the playoff. Indiana's not missing the playoff. Ohio State's not missing the playoff. Notre Dame's not missing the playoff. Miami's not missing the playoff. Alabama could miss the playoff. And Texas, if they're in the top seven, absolutely could miss the playoff. That schedule's very nasty. Coming down the stretch of the season. Didn't mention Florida, Texas right there. I don't know, it's big to me. I think there's a great opponent for arch. I think there's a fantastic opponent for arch coming off that loss. Oklahoma's defense, I saw a staff today that arch just faced the three of the top 10 defenses in the country, in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. If you need a get right defense to play, I think this Florida one's really good. It got Lenore Sellers, right? Lenore Sellers had five total touchdowns the other day through for four touchdowns. It got him right. It's gotten, you know, it got Austin Simmons right. Like everything, if you need to bounce back, have a big game. You play the Florida Gators and this defense, you're going to have a big game. I think this is going to be a big spot for arch to bounce back from what happened the other day. And I don't know the way Florida wants to play, running the ball, Jaden ball moving the chains. Texas doesn't really let you do it. So I don't see a world Florida makes this a competitive game in the second half. I think Texas has a huge bounce back spot right here, thoughts. I don't know which way to lean brand to be quite honest. I could see Florida finding a way to be in at the end of this game and wing it. I could see Texas finally Sarcusian figures out, stomps his foot and they went by 14, 15, 16, 17, whatever. My question for you is, if Florida goes on the road and wins it Austin, and wins in Austin, is Texas eliminated from the playoff and is Florida back in the playoff picture? So I would say no to both. Florida still has their loss to Georgia coming up. That's a that's a third loss, yeah. And I'm not ready to start considering the nine in three teams. All the teams with two losses right now. If you lose again, I think you're just out until you give us a reason to pull you back in at the end. So at three losses, I'm putting you to the side. If Florida, Florida to me has a guarantee lost to Georgia coming up, they just do. And what Texas boy, Texas would, I don't know if they'd be out, but one foot will be out the door and the other standing on a banana peel. That's that's what text. Again, if Texas couldn't beat Oklahoma and Florida back-to-back, what makes you think they're going to beat the second half of their schedule, which is a little bit tougher than the first half? All right, moving on to the 230 window. And this is where I have my favorite gambling spot of the week. It's my favorite pick of the week. It's the one team I don't get in the top 25 right now. How much love they're receiving? Bring up the number two. Bring up. So this isn't the number one game. Alabama, Tennessee gets number one spot. Although to me, I think Missouri will miss should be in the number one spot. But whatever, I don't know why Missouri's getting the love they're getting. I really don't. They're up to number 12 nationally. Three weeks ago, they went to Starkville. Camarillo Taylor just absolutely dominating them. Beat them by 200 yards in the fourth quarter. Mississippi State won that game at home. And now I'm sitting here and everybody's got them at number 12. Why? Because they beat a Florida team who was always fake. Because they beat a Texas A and M team that is awful, that their coach is turning on. What is it about Missouri season so far that makes them the number 12 team in the country? Why is everybody so high on Missouri? Why is everybody talking Missouri to the playoff? I think they're a solid team. I think Austin Simmons is a very good quarterback. I think Jamal Roberts is a very good running back. They got a very good receiver. But that defense can be gotten. They're gonna go to Oxford and face Trinidad Chambers and Kiwan Lacey. After they got torched their first trip to Mississippi about Fluff Boatwell and Camarillo Taylor. If you couldn't handle Camarillo Taylor and Fluff Boatwell, I don't think you're ready for Trinidad Chambers and Kiwan Lacey. I just don't. So I think Ole Miss is going to Dog Walk, Missouri. I would love to be wrong. Oh my God, I would love to be wrong. I would do a dance if I was wrong. I would gritty on this show if I was wrong. 'Cause I don't like Ole Miss. For the matchup itself, Austin Simmons is going to walk back into Oxford and just beat Ole Miss. I don't see it. I think Missouri is among the most overrated teams in the country right now. Thoughts. - They're number 13, by the way, not 12. - 13. - Sorry. That definitely deserved the correction. - It did, it did, because you know, 12 is. - I think, Brandon, first to 35 in this game wins. I see more of a shootout. I think Austin Simmons can go into that environment and throw on that defense. I think he has been surgical this season. I think the offensive scheme that Missouri is running this year is far and away so much more smooth and better than what Kirby Moore had him running. Austin Simmons has been able to dissect. So I do like a high scoring game here. I like 70 plus points on the board. - Yeah, I mean, the Ole Miss defense is awful. It's got awful. It did look better against Vanderbilt, but that just might mean Vanderbilt. - Vanderbilt. - Garbage. Just terrible with a freshman quarterback. So I'm with that. I just think Missouri's being over-talked about right now. And I think we have had a four or five week history with somebody being an over-talked SEC team. And it's happened time and time again, it happened to Ole Miss, it happened to LSU, it happened to Florida. There's an SEC flavor of the week thing going on this year and it never last very long. This conference is humbling everybody except for Georgia. That's what I believe. All right, back to Batman Tennessee. I can't imagine. I know Bama's coming off a home loss to Georgia and they'll probably beat up because Georgia might be that kind of defense where they leave you. They might beat you twice, but if there's a team and a rivalry that I could have put on the schedule too for a good landing for Alabama, it's Tennessee. I just, they don't have quarterback figured out. They don't have offense figured out. It was ugly, you know, the score is one thing, but that game against Arkansas was just gross. It was just ugly, like Hypole doesn't have, doesn't seem like he has the plan he used to have. He doesn't have the confidence in his quarterbacks. And this Alabama defense, if you don't have confidence in your quarterbacks, good luck. What do you think Liam? I'm looking at the spread right now. I just want to make sure I get right. Yeah, seven and a half Alabama. I think that like, yeah, like I think that's, I think that's about, I think I would have put around 10 myself, but you know, agreed and I just, I expect Alabama to impose their will. The best thing about this game for Tennessee fans will be seeing your orange on the field against Alabama's Crimson and the color rush game on the third Saturday of October. That's all they're getting. Tennessee has done nothing to prove that they're a top 15 team. The offense of line isn't good. The quarterback play isn't good. They're not going to be able to establish a great run game against Alabama. Keelan should have his way with that defense. Like I think Alabama routes them. Okay, let's see BW one. Keelan DeBoer was on game day on Saturday. The fans didn't chant his name on game day. They chant a Keelan Russell's name with how fed up he looked on the sidelines, unappreciated gum. That's one way to look at it. So you're saying because Alabama fans didn't chant Keelan DeBoer's name, he's going to leave Tuscaloosa. That's quite the emotional conclusion you've come to. And I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter, chat person. I would love to subscribe to that. Bama offense will struggle with UT defense as Randy Melton won. I think that's, that could happen. That could absolutely happen. I mean, Georgia showed you how to defend
Alabama's Alabama's offense. All you got to have is the best player in America at every single defensive position and you can slow him down It was open. That's where you went Tennessee should be able to do that right That's sneaky one there Arizona state at Texas tech big 12 big 12 by the way big weekend in the big 12 Not only about BYU playing Notre Dame out of conference, which is you know, that's that any any win A BYU win would be great for the big 12, but then you've got Houston Oklahoma state. Uh, Saturday, wait did I break that down? Yeah, Oklahoma state at Houston, Saturday night, and then you have this one Arizona state at Texas Tech Texas Tech's a better football team than Arizona State, but Arizona State had that week to week volatility One week. They won't be great in the next week. They look very very good I think we learned a little bit about the big 12 this weekend Liam Blutman I don't know what to make of this game you you point to the volatility of Arizona state They looked so good in that first two-and-a-half quarters against A&M and then you know A&M is out to be absolute dog water in Arizona state That's up game trounce them the final parts of that game Then they struggled with Hawaii last week. They didn't make any sense and remember when they got absolutely plastered by Baylor I can't figure Arizona state out. I'm leaning towards them just Maybe the town they invest in the portal. It's just a big ol' with because I know Dillingham's the bar coach them what they've been able to show as for Texas Tech If they lose man like What a disappoint it they have been so disappointed and we don't talk about enough because they're winning But there's I have zero feared when you watch Texas Tech or you scared at all not really, but I just get this sense that they're gonna be on a week to week basis And we're like oh, they didn't look good. They didn't look good and then In third Saturday, November. They're 11 and 0 and they're playing for a 12 and I was using you like oh wait They never look good and they're they're still gonna walk this conference That's like what a red flag that is for the big 12 Well, it's a hypothetical situation, but and they got a trip to Oklahoma state coming up So like there are spots here. Otona just got on base There are spots here. They need to look more impressive soon. I will agree with that I don't know if air is on a state is the team to do it I actually forgot to do something I always do my upset alert and it was in the early window north western is ranked currently right yeah That's your upset alert That's your upset alert Michigan state Nothing to lose pat Fitzgerald I'd give me in the sideline to get me in the uh Don't give me the canned speeches from Kirby smart that he accidentally leaks and give me in the in the locker room for that speech give me that um We go on to the uh to the last window there and there's a lot of games that we'll go through in a minute uh floor-to-state at Miami depresses me. I don't know what the the Brandon Walker you absolutely state. Well, thank you for showing up. Give me a view and saying that. I appreciate that means a lot um Texas tech absolute cupcake schedule Eric and Kentucky. Yeah, I mean Not the toughest schedule in the world, but now we look back that Oregon state scheduling is a little bit better than we thought it was gonna be and then You know, the win over Houston is aging very well They've got Oklahoma State coming up later. So it's not the worst thing in the world um We've got floor-to-state Miami. Saturday night. We got Kentucky, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, UCLA Notre Dame, BYU. Obviously the big one in this window right here So Notre Dame, BYU and I go back and forth with this one In my mind i'm playing ping pong and volleyball just going back and forth over the net and one one serve says Notre Dame's been waiting for this spotlight game. They've been here and how they don't play anybody and they're going to go in there and they're gonna Absolutely kill him. They're gonna just nail him to the wall but The other side of my brain says you know, BYU is not a stranger to these big spots BYU is not the program that's gonna be scared BYU has a very good defense BYU has everything they need to muck this thing up and make it a low scoring game in the fourth quarter and What a big statement for Kalani Satake this would be so i think i land on the spot of or of Notre Dame Just being a far superior football team in every facet and probably ends up gritting out a pretty ugly 14 point win here What do you think? What do you let me ask you another question. Let me ask you another question. I see you struggling Scale of one to ten. What's the blowout potential in a Notre Dame win? 8.3 8.3 so you you think you think it can you think it's gonna happen I If they're winning they're going to win this game handily in my opinion I think you look at Jonas Walton the run game. What were you talking about three four weeks ago? Notre Dame's running game hasn't looked great and then they find this freshman He's been absolutely electric and he could bounce off Any any run into a touchdown like they have a game breaking talent at running back in their offense lines Playing in the work. Let me just stop you there. Yeah, go ahead They got a game-breaking running game. They got a game-breaking talent at running back again stanford Right, like I mean I saw I saw the same highlights everybody else there But like like are we considering stanford anything that tells us about any player on that field I don't I'm just I'm just saying it out loud. I don't 23 carries against UNC turned into 120 I know again UNC then the 13 for one a one against stanford I thought that is Acceleration burst popped off the screen like I don't know like I like the traits that I saw 23 for 120 Hey, that's fair 23 for 120 against UNC and presses to be more than 13 for 180 against stanford Valor I'm just more so saying like hey their run game wasn't blowing me away wasn't blowing a of us away in the first part of season Now you find your workhorseback that you trust like that is a big deal Will Stein the Kentucky coaches coming up in just a minute And then we have this is a fun one I really enjoyed it and I want to do more of this. I want to interview like super fans and fans of teams We'll have the end of the show if you don't want you don't watch it But it's country country music star Jordan Davis who's a gigantic LSU fan And he just tells the stories of being on the road and making sure that while he's up there singing this song He's got LSU and the monitor just some cool behind the scene stuff of his LSU fandom And and I just I can fascinated by these celebrities and these stars that have very successful lives and careers And they're still the same die hards that we are right like I'm not a celebrity at all I'm just I'm just a fan. I just I just all I care about on Saturdays watching watching ball And these guys that are out there touring and making thousands and thousands of dollars to somebody to come see I'm seeing into a can and they're just all they care about is LSU football. So we've got Will Stein coming up in a minute We got Jordan Davis coming up in a minute speaking of Will Stein Kentucky at Oklahoma this I think this is the start of the Oklahoma Reclamation Project if it's gonna happen They're what three and two right now. I don't really know where they're like I think it's three and two Um, I believe they're three and two if they were to be Kentucky and Mississippi State next week they're five and two And all of a sudden Look out because that defense is so good or They show up Saturday night John Matier throws an early pick six and Kentucky runs them out their own building I just don't know what will the things will Stein is done with that offensive line and kind of attacking Teams from inside out, you know softening them up here and then killing them out here and just Spreading them out and making the defensive coordinators absolutely cry with his creativity with his with his guts And with everything the Will Stein's been able to do I just don't think you can do it to Oklahoma And I think Oklahoma wins a football game talk me off of that ledge Yeah, I completely disagree. I think back to August when we did our SEC and whatever conference preview And you and I both had our like preseason awards lined up and I think both of us Before we're talking before show we both that Will Stein is coach of the year And we both had Kentucky as our sleeper And then we both looked at each other and said hey But how many wins can Kentucky actually get and we went through the schedule and we got to like four or five But we still thought Will Stein was gonna really instill something great in that program And they were gonna look good for the future and uh uh you could flip the swish any year And I feel like people like the sports books and everything just aren't Catching up to what will Stein has built so quickly and turned around at Kentucky I don't think there's seven points worse than Oklahoma even in Norman I think Kentucky goes in in Norman and wins another game and then wins again as an underdog because of the culture Because of what they are doing on the offensive line They are tough Kenny Minty's playing great their defense plays sound and steps up when they need to I'm taking the guy that I think it's the bar coach brand again Good plug he interviews them in a few minutes. It's fantastic. Will Stein is like coach I would die for I will continue to pick in his favor Yeah, I get it he's very impressive. He's remarkably impressive coach I just think the way that Kentucky offensive line has imposed their will On on LSU and opposed their will on the A&M on the road. I don't think they can do it Oklahoma I just don't I think Oklahoma's defensive line is it's just too good to veteran too strong Um, but we'll see. I think that's a fascinating. That's a fascinating fucking game Yeah, and look man. I still respect you as a human being, but you're wrong I love disagreeing. I fucking love this. We need to do more Um big like I said Florida State Miami kind of depressing
This is me. This game should be a top 15 matchup every year. They should pass a law. Congress should pass a law that Miami and Florida State have to have top 15 football teams. It's what I grew up with. I had Bobby Bowden. I had Jimmy Johnson. I had the tail end of Snellenberger. I had, I had, I was a coach after Jimmy Johnson, fuck, not Coke or Coke or was that later? Dennis Erickson, then Coke or, then I had Bowden. I had all these great players. Florida State Miami used to fucking mean something, man. When I was 12, 13, 14 years old, that was the game every year. That was the fucking game. And now it's just nothing. It sucks. It depresses me. Wisconsin UCLA, Liam Blutman, Wisconsin Sneaky there at 4-1. UCLA allowed there at 5-0 or 6-0. I can't ever remember who's had the buy and who hasn't. What do you, do you have concerns about this one? Do you, you have your backup quarterback? What do you think? Let's stick with this. Let's stick with a simple look. UCLA, this line opened last week. It opened before, I think it opened like on Friday on draft Kings. UCLA was a three and a half point favorite. Today, with the backup quarterback, they are two and a half point favorite. The, the overreaction to Nico being out is so gargantuan. It is not as big of a deal as people are making what they will lose most are his legs and that ability. Deep and bot could run though. He, he's actually on a mile per hour basis. He runs faster than Nico. He just doesn't have the same on a mile per hour basis. He clocked at 21 or something, something up there. He just doesn't have the same shiftingness and wiggle. I think you look at this game. I think this comes down to Colton Joseph and if he's able to take care of the ball or not, UCLA Bob Chesney has seen him twice the last two years at JMU. I believe they've made them throw interceptions. They've created turnovers. Brands so locked down. This brewers game. It's making me nervous. I, I'll say this if Wisconsin were to go out there and beat UCLA, I think we would all owe Notre Dame an apology. That's, that's very mature of you. Yeah. I think that's very, very fair. I think if it was the further Wisconsin goes into the season and winning games, the more we have to reconsider what we thought and that we won game in Lambo when Notre Dame won by 28 points. They struggled in the first half and they ended up pulling away. But I don't, I will not apologize to Notre Dame until I am bound to by our laws in this country. Brandon didn't watch the Wisconsin Notre Dame game and it shows. Can I ask what y'all's fascination with lying to yourselves and saying Brandon or Blutman didn't watch the game? It was a Monday night game in Lambo field. 41-13 Notre Dame won the football game. What do you want? It was 14-13th to have. I might have the numbers wrong. But we all saw the game. Everybody saw the game. Why? I'm no heel. No heel in the night. We're just talking. We're talking ball. I won't talk ball with the chat. What did I say that was wrong? That Wisconsin Kippit close in the first half and Notre Dame stretched out in the second half. What did I say there to say Brandon didn't watch the game? What on earth did I say? Nothing? All right, very good. Anyway, let's go with, we got those games. Do we ever do? Do you have any games that are right there that you need to talk about that we haven't talked about yet? No, I had my thought for the second half game of the year. Yeah. And what was the other thing I thought? Oh, shoot. Talk. I forgot what I was going to say. Super, super. So I have under rated game. I say it's the under the radar game. It's only under the radar because there's so many great rank matchups this weekend. There's so many great games. But I do think Oklahoma State Houston, you could look at the end of the day and that's the game of the day. I think obviously Ohio State, Indiana, obviously Notre Dame BYU is the marquee game Saturday night. Oklahoma State Houston is going to be fantastic. I think with the defense Oklahoma State has that makes every game entertaining because it's okay. It's not great. And with the offense they have, that makes every game entertaining. And Houston's game for whatever. Houston has had a sneaky knack for just playing a bunch of close-ass games that are riveting in the fourth quarter of this year. I think that's a fantastic one. What else you got? I really, I'm mad. I forgot about that. I need a great idea. I want to read this. Hathouse79 says this show is so well-produced. And I actually do want to stop here. I thought about this on my drive-in to work this morning. Liam Blutman is on this show. And we all know he's number one ball watcher in the world. The guy you don't see, Lukey Blutman is the producer. And he's fucking awesome. And he does great. He does. He has a bunch of patients for me. It's a very busy schedule we got. If I need him to show up at eight in the morning, he shows up at eight in the morning. If I need him there at midnight, he's there at midnight. So Liam Blutman's on camera. Lukey Blutman, the producer's fucking amazing. Shout out to Lukey Blutman. Don't say anything, Lukey. I gave you your props right there. Mark, Marky, send me some money. Anyway, I guess we can just go ahead and slow it down. Unless you've got something to add, we can get to Will Stein in just a second. Yeah, I'm such an idiot. I have no brain cells. I forgot. Exactly. I had such a guy. The idea. I thought 30 minutes going for God about it. You're going to touch me later with the idea. No, because I'm not going to be able to remember it. Wain night interview after you're two interviews as well on Blutman channel. Well, the tiger buck myered to 50. Send that to Hank. Lukey knows this after we did the show the other day. I opened a jumbo box, a Bowman looking for a Camario Taylor. And I got absolutely shit out of that box. I didn't get nothing. Was that your best? No, I got to. I got to save your worthy auto. There's probably the best. But the college autos were more shit. They were absolute shit. It was the Kansas quarterback, Chase Jenkins. And a Penn State tight end with a, with a long name. Askelson. Yeah, I can't believe like we're barebuck, my 17 and two as a starting quarterback. Is it that crazy? Think about I have, uh, I haven't, uh, I've also started negotiations with someone who's in possession of a Camario Taylor one of one. So, oh, one of one. I will update you on how that goes. I have started negotiations. Um, anyway, uh, let me tell you about let me, uh, let's see coach, coach Jack, coach AK 2359 BFW. Can I get a birthday shadow? Happy birthday, coach AK 2359. There's one game we didn't talk about that has to be talked about. And that's Nebraska Oregon pack 12 after dark. Um, playing quarterback for org. That, that game was a hell of a lot more interesting seven days ago at this time. I wouldn't like to see like Indiana goes to Nebraska barely gets out there with the win. Do we see that it was actually Nebraska's really fucking good and that's why Indiana.
barely out of there with a winner. We see the Indiana just kind of play down and isn't all that good. We'll see. But Nebraska, if you're something, if you're something to talk about in the second half, you go out there and you give Oregon a punch. Now they go out there and Oregon thumps them. I'm fine. Not talking to Nebraska anymore. It's a line in the same game for both teams, I think. Yeah. And let me, let me give you a scenario right now, right? Take your shoes off and put yourself in Dillon Rayola shoes who played so well against USC and trick the all man. And then against UCLA, he got absolutely shredded. He was terrible. And now this whole sense thought that more went down. He's had thoughts. Oh my gosh. I got to play against Nebraska. I get to play against my former team. And you don't get the opportunity to do that. That was suck. Getting benched, being so fucking bad that you get benched before you play here. Don't you think that Dan landing or don't you think Dan landing wants to be able to have him go against his old team? Oh, so bad. Like how easy, how easy a motivation is that, but also he did leave them. So the motivation should be all on Nebraska side. They probably wanted to play too. There could be so much great trash talking that game. If Rayola is on the field, this guy was looking his lips two weeks ago. Oh, my also, also, it's like it's after everything. It's 10 o'clock at night. We could be sitting here talking and then Oregon and Nebraska just do the goddamn this game you've ever seen in your entire life. That's the second half game. We're podcasts. Oh, man. Yeah. BFW should play in games, replace conference championship weekend. You know, we're probably headed to that in 15 years. Let's just enjoy what we have right now. And what we have right now, this was a fun show. I don't know. I think I might like the night. Well, you guys can DM me if you want. I think I might like this later at night. I think I'm going to better mood. But for right now, we got two interviews coming at you. Jordan Davis, LSU, super fan, the country superstar is coming up in a minute. But right now, let's go ahead and take it right now to me and Kentucky coach Will Stein. All right. Ball watching time. Obviously Saturday night, one of the big highlights was Kentucky taking down LSU at home. We saw you saw the highlight. You saw the two-point conversion. Kenny mentioned running in with the smile on his face. Probably some of the most or you'll ever see out of a quarterback. Yes. I'm 47 years old and say in the word or deal with it. But the play call was made by this man. Head coach Will Stein is here. Thank you very much. It's his second time on this network of shows. The first time he did the Liam Blutman interview before he did the Brandon Walker interview. I'm not sure how I feel about that coach. Well, Brandon, I'm really excited to talk to him. A big fan of you in your show. Love your takes. Yeah, Liam was not prepared to talk to him. And then he showed up on the screen. I was like, man, all right. It's got knows a lot about UTSA and all the players that I've coached and was gassing me up. So I appreciated that. So no, I've enjoyed watching what you do. And again, I appreciate your support for our program. Well, thank you very much. Are you worried that you're going to run out of game winning two-point conversion calls? Because if you do this every week, at some point, the bag is going to run empty, right? Are you worried about that at all? I mean, it's really as wild to win back-to-back games with the exact same score, getting them all second and over time and going for two both times. So I might need to go to a trip to Vegas or something and put a bunch of money down for whatever, but no, man, it was, it was incredible about our players. Just, you know, obviously the execution of both plays and really just how they played throughout the last six games. It's been a credit to our coaching staff getting these guys ready to play. And really the players that have shown up every single Saturday, ready to roll, you know, the one thing I want to talk to you about is buy-in. Okay, we'll put the players to the side for a second because I want to talk about the fan bases buy-in. A lot of people look at Kentucky and they think, you know, basketball, basketball, basketball. And yeah, that's true. They love basketball in Kentucky, but they are desperate and starved and loved their football program too. And this summer, when I was doing all my coaching list, every single time I would tweet or say anything, Kentucky fans were like, what about Will Stein? What about Will Stein? It got to the point where I was like, shut up about Will Stein. Just shut up and let's see what happens. But I think ever since you got hired, this Kentucky fan base fell in love or something, they have been all in. Talk about the fan bases buy-in for you. They truly are incredible, you know, all over the state, really all over the country. When I first got the job and was recruiting in January, everywhere I would go, like somebody in the school, somebody around town had some sort of alliance allegiance to Kentucky and Kentucky football. So it really is amazing. What big lunation is all about. We've been super supportive of our guys. They've shown up every single Saturday in Kroger Field. I mean, the environment the other night was electric, really was from start to finish. And I think, you know, in the past, there might have been some people that would have left, you know, two minutes left, down three. They need one first down to really seal the game. And our fans were there to the end. And that was a big reason why we won the game is because they were able to affect, you know, LSU and want to continue this same thing as the season goes on. And for many years to come, you know, now we can talk about the players by end because twice in a row, you were down 17, nothing on the road is South Carolina easy to say, you know, a player could maybe knock you a max effort from that point. And then you're down late against LSU. And both times, you come back and both times you go for it and both times you get it, just the players and their ability to stay with it and keep in it and and make the plays at the end. You've only been there, what, five games, six games now. You're halfway through your first season. It's already happening like that. Just talk about the players and the way they bought into this thing. They've been incredible from day one. And we've gone through a lot since we've gotten here. We've had some change happen. You know, we had a really terrible unfortunate passing of one of our teammates in the summer. So we've we've built connection through a lot of different avenues and and we do get reels on Wednesdays in the off season. We're really diving to each other's lives and in a different way than just on the field. So I really do feel like there's a connectedness within this team. And it's not easy to win down 17. It's not easy to win in overtime. You know, we train really hard in the off season and put the time in and and you just really preach excellence and preach one play focus and really try to embody that in every single down that we play. And for us to come out on top, it's really a sign of our process and how it works. The people in our building, the players and their buying and just really proud of the fact that they were able to finish that game. The one thing that really made me open my eyes and my eyes got wide in the off season when I thought about your first year, I was like, I looked at the way you were building that offensive line and the quality of transfers you were getting and I was like, Oh, okay, well, this is serious then. He's really going out and then I watch these games in a third and fourth quarter. You're offensive lines, mall and people. Can you just walk me through the building process of that and why that was such a huge focus and how successful you were at building it? I think honestly coming from working with Dan Laning, we really built that roster around offensive and defense aligns. The last three lines that I was a part of at Oregon with Joe Mooreward finalist and I knew what that did for sustainability with quarterback play with allowing receivers to go have success on the perimeter, allowing backs to go run through big holes in the offensive line. And so I felt like when we got here, that was number one priority on both sides of the ball offensive and defensive lines. You know, obviously never coaching in the SEC but seeing it from a four, how big the human beings are that we play against every single Saturday and how free free daddy the defensive ends are and how guys can run and hit that if you don't win the line of scrimmage, you have no chance. The best teams in the country have the best offensive lines and the best defensive lines. There's a lot of white outs out there. There's obviously some difference makers that can really change the game on the perimeter, but what allows those guys to change the game on the perimeter and the quarterbacks to go make plays with their arms and feet are great aligns and and D lines, you know, to stop them those guys. So that was a big part of the process and building this team and I really like what they've done so far. Now your quarterback, you're getting your first opportunity as a head coach and he's getting his first opportunity to lead a program as the number one guy and he's he's absolutely killing it. He's making the plays in the second half. He's he's been fantastic. Kenny mentioned just I don't know when you when you surrender or when you circled in on him and said, all right, this is my guy. I don't know if it was immediate, but talk me through that process of kind of getting him and watching him become the guy. Well, let me and during the transfer portal season, especially when we first got here, there was one guy on our roster left, you know, after stuff had kind of settled and I had started to assemble a staff. So we had to go out and get quarterbacks. That was a no brainer. And when we watched the tape and had some familiarity with Kenny really through Joe Sloan my offense, a coordinator, you watched the tape, you watched him in backup duty and Notre Dame and you see throws that translated into our offense and then you watch his high school tape and say, this guy is a really good football player. He just needs an opportunity to go prove that. And then we did a deep dive on who he is as a person talking with guys that coached him in Notre Dame and you know, scouts around the NFL that had gone to their practices and watched him play. And it was like, okay, this guy has the mental makeup to succeed at this level. He can make the throws that we need. He's really accurate. He has enough mobility to get you out of trouble. He just needs an opportunity and some people to really give him the reins to the team. And he's been nothing but, you know, phenomenal since we've got here in terms of just how he operates on a day by day basis shows up every day ready to work. He gets better every game, which I think is a sign of growth and maturity in his game. And so I really do believe the sky's a limit. There's there's plenty of things that he's going to grow up from just from this last game. We learned something new every game with him. I learned something new every single game about Mia's head coach and stuff that I can improve on. So I'm really excited about the direction that he's going. I know he's eager for more opportunities and he's done a great job so far. You know, looking at the last few years, I want to ask the
about the evaluation part, because you've had success with multiple types of quarterbacks, right? You're doing it with Kenny Mentshi. You did a Dante Morbonex, Dylan Galeg. You've had different types of mobility, different types of arm talent, different types of whatever, but it's always been successful. When you go out to look at a quarterback and look for a quarterback, what do you look for first? Do you look for the arm first? Do you look for the legs first? Do you look for the mind first? Do you look for the character first? What's the first thing you look at and say, all right, well, this can be my guy. - Well, yeah, I mean, there's a lot of factors in really picking and choosing quarterbacks are gonna take over the reins. I think just the tangibles, the physical tools, number one, the most important thing for me as a quarterback is accuracy. I think throwing on time and accuracy is vital to success on how we play. Processing skills and football IQ is really the intangible stuff that you gotta continue to build. They gotta love football. Like our position, that position is so tough. You have the ball, you have the program in your hands, every single snap. So if you're not mentally tough, you're not gonna last. I'll tell these guys all the time, they're gonna pan to me on the sidelines with the TV. They're gonna show Joe Sloan in the box, call him plays, they're gonna show Jay Bateman on the sideline, call him defense. And then they're gonna show you a quarterback. So if you can't handle that, the stress of the job, the ups and downs, the ups and flows, the good, the bad, then you're not cut out to be a quarterback for us. So that has to be a key factor for how we play quarterback. And Kenny Menchie is one of the most even killed guys I've been around in a long time. Like he really is not high or low. He doesn't ride waves of emotions, which is kind of wild. Like I've coached some of the best guys I've coached. Like Bones X was so competitive, you know? That was like his MO, not that Kenny's not competitive. He is just as competitive, but he hasn't showed as much as maybe a bow or a dill. And he's just really even killed. And it's pretty incredible how he can go about a game, even with some mistakes early on and just kind of compartmentalize it and move on to the next play. So accuracy for sure, football IQ, and then processing skills and then mental toughness, I think is vital. - I think that's the same for podcasters. I think it's my mental toughness that sets me apart from everybody else. - Yeah. - It's definitely not my accuracy. My last question, I appreciate your time. I know your time is very valuable. So you're reward for beating Texas A&M's defense and South Carolina's defense and LSU's defense. It's now you get to deal with Oklahoma's defense. Have fun with that. What have you seen out of this group that this game is sneaky one of the best games on the calendar this weekend? What have you seen out of this group? - They are legit, man. They are legit. Coach Venerables does an outstanding job. I mean, they play on defense like you think Coach Venerables would play if he was playing out there. You know, like I sat next to him in some SEC meetings and he's an intense guy. He's like a really like good dude and he's like strong as hell looking, but like he's intense. You know, when you talk to him like you feel the intensity and that is really how his players play. They play fast, they play physical. They got freak shows everywhere. Lots of NFL players. They play within the scheme. He's not afraid to bring pressure from everywhere. It's obvious why they are good on defense every single year. His vision and how they play is really incredible. So we have nothing but the utmost respect for him. His program, the Oklahoma Sooners as a whole blue blood program in college football with national championships, all Americans, first round picks, conference titles. You know, they were in the playoff last year. You know, I got so much respect for what they do and it's going to be a big task for us. Last thing before I let you go. I'm about to run an interview with country music superstar, Jordan Davis, a huge LSU fan. We had to pre-record it last week and he chose to record it on the premise that LSU had beaten Kentucky and then we were going from that. So you ruined that for me. I had to edit all that out. So I appreciate you doing that and making my guy have to work in extra five minutes. Yeah, you know, I need to maybe get in on his music. I'm not really sure about. I'm sure it's great. Yeah, I'm sure I would love it in the summer next to the pool and enjoying some some adult beverages. But I'm sorry that we ruined his weekend. And that was coach speak for I don't give a damn. Anyway, that's Will Stein, one of the stories of the year. I can tuck you. Thank you. Congratulations on our success, man. Thanks, Brandon. Go cats. All right, NASCAR time. The chase is rolling into Talladega. Talladega is like nothing you've ever seen. The scene, the actual race, it's true super speedway racing. It is an incredible scene on the track. But off the track, it's crazy. You've got the infield, the trailers, the barbecues, the all the, you know, the extra curriculars as they say. It is a scene there in Talladega. Before you even get to the race, it is a scene in Talladega. And right now, the biggest party in racing is happening all around Talladega College students. Consider this your excuse to take your tailgate to Talladega, Alabama with a yellowwood 500 college offer. Choose your seat, bring your crew, camp, and tailgate for free. And yes, you can bring your own cooler. Grab your friends, pack the drinks, and make a weekend out of it. Or if you're currently suffering from Talladega nights withdrawal, we got a cure for that too. The DeGaCon ticket package gets you into the race, exclusive merchant, the chance to meet cast members from Talladega nights. Or you can keep it simple. General tickets are available to however you decide to do Talladega. Don't be the one hearing about it afterward. Grab your tickets now because of Talladega anything can happen. All right, so I heard all of you coaches, boring is shit, right? Players, sometimes boring, whatever. The announcers, I like them. We had Charles Davis. We had Brad Nestle. We have all these guys. They're fantastic. But I thought, you know what, this world of cost for ball isn't just coaches and players and fans and everything. It's also, well, I just gave it away. It's also fans. It's also famous fans. And it's, what, let's see, what was I call you? LSU Superfan, LSU Mega Fan. I would, I would take a super fan. LSU Superfan Jordan Davis. Yeah. You, so you are, you know, country music superstar. You do all these things. Are you still like me, though, that no matter what's going on in your life? How successful, how busy you are? LSU still ruins your mood, runs your mood. Yeah, it ruins it for the week. Okay, you know, it like, I'll be honest with you. Even sometimes in victory, I can still be a little upset up until you do that fan. Yeah. Even in victory, you're like, well, the left tackle was getting beat a couple of times tonight. Yeah. Like, we got it. We got it. We've got to stop giving away the underneath routes. Okay. That kind of like, that kind of sicko. Yeah. All right. Yeah. So yeah, this year's been a tough one. Hey, hey, Jordan, you won 63 of seven. Yeah. But the weak side linebacker was dragging a little bit. Exactly. It's like, well, we couldn't stop, you know, we couldn't stop this or we, you know, we were giving up too much of this. But like, I've gotten better. But now, like, what's crazy is I had like two years where my wife could care less. And like, now my kids are into it. Yeah. And I feel like I'm diving right back into like, kind of crazy fandom. It is weird that you kind of recreate a new super mega fan and then you watch him and you're like, oh, you don't even know the half of it. It's going to be, I just expose you to a life of it, man. Absolutely. Absolutely. I remember when I had my first boy, he was, he was a year old and I put him, I'm a Miami Dolphins fan too, I put him, I'm a Miami Dolphins jacket for a picture, and I took a picture of him. I'm like, what are you doing to this kid? Why are you doing this? The pain, the pain that, you know, I, and it's funny too, like being, you know, from Louisiana. So LSU, Saints, those are my teams. And now my kids are all born in Nashville. Yeah. And my wife was kind of like, hey, are we going to have the kids that are like, Saints fans that live in Nashville and like, they go to school? I'm like, yeah. That's exactly, signing them up for Titan fandom. That sounds like exactly what you're going to do. Yeah. Yeah, you don't change fandom because you change zip codes. Yeah. I mean, I live up here among these assholes and I'm, I'm probably the only neighborhood in Antiochal and Norway with a Mississippi State flag. Yeah. But I still have a Mississippi State flag and it still hurts me. You and, you and Lane Kiff and Cool. Uh, yeah, man. He's been, he's been awesome. You get after, after the game you ever, you ever send him a text like, hey, coach, maybe we shouldn't call that on third and seventh. No. We're not that cool yet. Uh, there's a couple other, you know, I've got a good buddy down there that is the equipment manager. So like, I kind of keep up with him through and I'm, I'm the sick of it. I mean, how's practice? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like, uh, but, uh, yeah, man. Lane's been awesome. Um, I'm all aboard the Lane Trayman. I don't know. I don't really understand why everybody's so mad at him, especially with miss fans. Well, no. Okay. I, so, so this is a passionate sport. Right. I think Lane Kiffin is the most fascinating person in the entire sport. Yeah. A couple of weeks have been kind of awesome because Lane's just kind of, after the Ole Miss game, Lane just went quiet a little bit and LSU went quiet. But I think LSU is still very much in this mix and the loss at Ole Miss the way, uh, they came back and live it kind of bounce back from it. Um, now, Ole Miss fans were always going to hate Lane Kiffin no matter where he went. Yeah. It didn't matter where he went to Oklahoma. He went to Florida State. They would have hated him. But he went to LSU. Yeah. Which, which was sold on the moon. Yeah. Um, but, you know, I mean, I'm with you. I don't think, I don't see a way that we go into that. You can replay that game 10 times. Yeah. I don't see us coming out of that game with a victory. I think we knew that going into the year and Giffin Ole Miss, like, hopefully they can put that to bed. Um, they shared and put it to bed against Florida the next week. But like, I think LSU, the problem now is the injury bug. Yeah. And we got beat up really good. Um, I still think we were, we're deep. Um, you know, the, the safety we lost is, is tough and obviously losing what weeks. But, uh, I still think we got athletes. I still think we can. Of course you got athletes. There's 40 million dollars on a roster. Yeah. We got them. So, uh, I feel good about it. By the way. Hey, do you keep your receipt on your, your part of that? What? The 40 million. The 40 million dollar roster. Do you? I could, I could have a hair in there. Oh. Oh. Sir, it's off. These are donations. I don't know what you're saying. Hey, I'm there too, buddy, I'm there too. You mentioned we were talking before and we were talking about like the country singers that get together may play a little golf together, play a little ball together. Is there any like, uh, what about the ball watching situation? You all ever get together and just throw a big screen on TV on a bar and just everybody get together and watch the boys. And not a ton. Uh, if we do, it's, it's, it's really rare to have all of us in town at the same time. Yeah. Uh, you know, most of the time we're, we're begging, which is crazy. Like we're begging for which I'm excited about our game being 11 a.m. Because it's, well, you should be too. I mean, it's better than, it's better than night and I don't have to go play a show at halftime. Yeah. And, you know, get any of your updates on how we're doing. Uh, you do that. Oh, yeah. So Saturday night, you're doing a show in Louisville, Kentucky, and everybody's, and then the girls are on stay. Hey, John, yeah. Oh, dirt, and they're doing all that stuff. And then you're getting a third and seven on the 14 yard line. Yep. So here's what I used to tell him. I used to tell him this. I'm like, hey, if, if it's going bad, yeah, don't, don't say anything. Well, then I'd play three songs that I wouldn't hear. And you'd have to know and then I would go back and be like, well, well, how bet? Like what's score? Um, and now we have monitors. And I actually stole this from co-wetsle. Uh, it's cool. A fan of, uh, well, he went to Tarleton State. Okay. I don't know who, I don't know who he's a, might be a Texas fan. Texas, Texas, or I don't want to. Yeah. Cause he never know. But yeah, I would think it's either Texas or, I don't know, but, uh, I saw a video of him and he had his monitors where usually we have lyrics. Yeah. Uh, he had a football game going in the monitor. And I was immediately just like, I went to our, our production manager. I was like, get back. Do you see this video? You need to find out how he did this. So, uh, yeah. Thanks for, let me see that. That was pretty awesome. Um, I was a couple of weeks ago, September, the second week, week two, uh, Mississippi State was playing Minnesota. Yeah. And we were talking about Hardy earlier, but Hardy was here. Yeah. And Hardy, big time, Mississippi State fan. And, uh, Hardy said, Hey, come into my show tonight. I said, I gotta stay home and watch Mississippi State, man. I can't. And he said, yeah, me too. Come out there. And I drive out to, it was in McKinley, Illinois at a big music festival. He had, uh, a ring of buses. Yeah. I don't think all four buses were his, but he had a bus, bus, bus, bus, bus. And in the middle, giant screen showing the Mississippi State game. And we just sat there and watched it. Yeah. The band was, it was just the coolest fucking thing. We won 38, 13. Everybody's having fun. That was a great game. Yeah. It was, it was fantastic. It was, um, so have you has Lane asked you to like do the walk out yet? Uh, so the Clemson game. We were down there. Oh, you did. Yeah. That's right. That's right. Uh, so yeah, we had a great, uh, Theo Laney duck. Uh, it was a great kind of group. Um, it got to go out, you know, pregame, uh, get to get to see him for a second, which was kind of crazy for me because I was sitting there like, we were like six minutes from kickoff. Yeah. They're all like, hey, hang here. We're gonna do a photo before the game. I'm like, dude, we're about to. Yeah. Like, this is, you know, at the time, I was like, Hey, this is a tough Clemson team. I ain't no way this coach is gonna have a picture. Yeah, like a picture. Yeah. But he did and, um, he's been great, man. I mean, that's what I love about Lane Lane would take that picture with seven minutes to go in the third. 100% would be like, oh, hold on guys. And I do. I love it. Especially coming off of what, you know, our, our bronchelle experience, uh, you know, it feels good to have like some energy and the, and it feels like the season feels different. Yeah. Here's the thing about that. I'm not going to sit here and have sympathy for your bronchelle experience because y'all's worst years. You're going nine and three. And I'm like, I would kiss an ass to go nine and three. Right now. I would absolutely love to go nine. Three other. We got a guy. You got the guy. Yeah, we got I will say this and it scares me that that is one thing about this LSU state kickoff is when I saw it was 11 a.m. Yeah. Um, that's definitely in your guys favor. And if, and with our defense as beat up as they are, come on, Taylor could give us some major problem. Correct. I mean, we have a bunch of chance in every game because of him. Now I don't think our defense can hold up to Lane Kiffin and Lane takes special joy in lighting us up. He has done it every single time. He's played us. Um, how, uh, how many stadiums around this country if you got to go to see a game at? Cause I'm, I'm saying that because I've been to a lot of stadiums. Tiger stadium. It's, it's number one and it's not close. Yeah. Like 2014, I went down there when DAC was there and it was a third and 10 early in the second half. And I just remember thinking my ears actually hurt is the only place in my life that my ears hurt from the noise. Yeah. Uh, I've been to, I would say the closest is Florida. This one. Florida's good. So Florence good to Auburn's tough. Yeah. Florida, I feel like they were right on top of you. Like it, it almost feels like they truly built that stadium straight up. So if you're on the sidelines, it's, and you're a player, you turn around and you're talking to the person in the first row. It's tough. Yeah. Um, I, I've been a him, a him, not, not there yet. Um, a lot of people though, a lot of people, but I think Alabama and Georgia are too used to winning to be that great. They feel like to me, and this is me saying it, I feel like they're more like business meetings. They, they come in there. They expect to be shown a profit and they expect to look at the balance sheet and like, oh, we're doing really well. Exactly. And then they only freak out if something goes wrong. We're gonna have to lay off 27 people. We're down 15, we're down 14 points. Oh my God. But like, LSU to me is fascinating because LSU has been very, very good. The top of sport, three national titles in the last 20 years, but they're fans still maintain that passionate, pissed off in this. Yeah. That only I can't explain it until you are standing on the sidelines there and you look up and they're like, they're just, they're angry, happy and awesome all the same time. Everybody's hammered. You might get pissed thrown on you. Maybe it's a good, that could happen. Yeah. Uh, it is something that like, I don't know. It's just like, I mean, in Louisiana, they just say it's like, you're just born in to being an LSU tiger. This is what we do. We go there. We scream from start, you know, start to finish. Um, I was, uh, start was tough, man. The cowbells are a, like, that's a, that's a different, that's a different atmosphere. It's different. It's also we are so hungry to win. Yeah. That, that right now, that every time we get a big game, like Saturday, we got killed by Alabama. The atmosphere was unbelievable. Yeah. And the noise, we are so hungry to win that every single time we think we have a shot to break through, it's going to be crazy. And then by the end of the first quarter, it's just like, Oh, oh, this is happening. Yeah. But yeah, I would, here's the thing about Mississippi State. And I love this because we're saying, I love Hardy. I want to see state get like the SEC is just better when state is good at football. Yeah. And see, that's why. And, and, and that, and, and that's why now you're pandering to me. I'm not pandering because what I'm saying is you are this close. No, no, no, Brandon. I still think she's going to handle this. There we go. Okay. Here we go. Good. But what I'm saying is, are in the new age of couch football, if you are a receiver, if you are an offensive player and you're getting into the portal, where you, who do you want thrown you the football? I'd certainly give Camario Taylor a talk. I would, I would say that guy can make every throw in the field. Yeah. Hell of an athlete, like, Mississippi states about to be tough. Yeah. And that's what's exciting about it. Yeah. Like, I know that in this day and age, $40 million, $50 million, you, you spend all the money and you build a roster, right? But also, if you just get that one guy. Yeah. Because there's, there's rosters out there, like Texas Tech right now is a $40 million roster with no quarterback. Yep. And, and they're still kind of wondering how, how do we become a national title contender now? LSU, probably 75% on leaning towards they do have a quarterback, but like Sam Levitt freaked out in that first African's Ole Miss. Yeah. I think he's, he's, he feels like he's getting into now again. That was a, that was a caveat. That was a game. That was a 100 years game. We got to see what's up with the hamstring. But I'll be honest with you. Lannick Clark is right behind him and his look really good every time he's coming. I know you probably don't know LSU's backup quarterback, but he's, he's, he's an athlete. Okay. I'm sorry. That's my fault. Milan. He did. He was a phoenix. We're ballin' over here. He was a phoenix. Yeah. And then I know you're third who's on Longstreet from USC. Yeah. I got the USC. Okay. Okay. Listen. This is what I love. And also anybody in the transfer portal, LSU's really good to, before I get to Lannick. This is what I love about Lane Kiffin because Lane will text me and he'd be like, did you see that tonight? Yeah. You see that? And then he'll also text me if somebody else, some one of his enemies fails. He'll be like, interesting. Yeah. I love, I love coaches that are just petty ass holes like we are. Have you ever, you, you, you got any message board passed in you? You, you a message board guy. It has Jordan Davis, the country singer, ever been like under his name, you know, country tiger, been like, ah, these coaches. Now, um, I was pretty vocal. I think about the Brian Kelly. I hated it. You didn't like it. I didn't like it from day one. Do you know what I thought about it from day one? You probably loved it. I loved it. Dude, when, when LSU hired Brian Kelly, I was like, oh my god, LSU is about to be unleashed. That what they have needed was a, a organized leader on top that isn't like, Orsoran had the big year, but then Orsoran was never going to keep it together. They needed Brian Kelly and he's going to win multiple national titles there. And I think it was two months later when we started seeing him change his accent and started seeing it. Dude, it probably was tough. The family and all that stuff. I was like, oh, now wait a minute. Yeah. It's actually full of shit. That was a, that was about when I wanted, um, some were all, um, but, you know, even back then. Yeah. Like it's just a ball. No one stuff right there. Well, I mean, like they, you know, they were fighting over same guys out of Louisiana. Louisiana is always deep in recruiting. So yeah, just, but yeah, from day one, I hated the Kelly higher.
Uh, I've never got too deep into the message boards. I definitely pay attention to them. Yeah, yeah. But, uh, and I feel like I've gotten a little vocal to where now some people are kind of come after me just because I had to put up with a couple of you know, uh, you, I can do things you can't do right because Alabama fans buy records too. Yeah. Uh, but, uh, um, do you, do you maintain, you get to go around the country, do you maintain your, uh, you get to play in like these arenas and stadiums and stuff? Uh, do you maintain your, your height for certain teams? You don't have to say any team. So you maintain your, your biases. Okay. I mean, like, it's, uh, you can't, I feel like none of us can't, like you can't go anywhere even with this. You can't go anywhere and like say anything good about Ole Miss. No. I don't miss. But I, I can, I can sit at Alabama and be like, I can like look around and say, yeah, you guys are awesome. I gotta get them. Well, no, I can't do a Ole Miss. Yeah. I'll, I'll, like, respect everybody. Yeah. But like, yeah. So Alabama comes in death, valium, whoops us as they've done recently, um, like, I got, I got no problem walking out, being like, okay, guys, you, y'all, y'all got us. Yeah. Let's see. Listen, come on up. They got Alabama. They got Texas. Like, LSU is going to have a decision. They're going to be a decision maker in College Football. Here's the thing. And God, this fires me up because I know, well, let it get fired. This is so to get fired up. Well, I mean, like, it's, it's, I, I get so tired of hearing about these other conferences and I look at teams like Indiana and even know how state like, what, what do we talk? How are we even considering that the best football is not in the SEC? Uh, great. You want a couple of national championships? Sure. Michigan, you know, did what they did. Sure. Great. Yeah. We'll see you in five or six years. Yeah. More than that. And, and now it's like, oh, yeah, and, and signety gets up there and talks about, we need these early games to find out who this, no joke, bro. Yeah. Yeah. Doesn't everybody want to be nice like, wow, dude, yeah, I'd love to run out there against Eastern Michigan and Purdue and Northwestern to kick off. Yeah. Well, we just talked about when Mississippi State, like Mississippi State, Texas, Florida, like, the fact that they, and I get it, I guess they have to say something as, as opposed to like, yeah, our conferences, not near as good as the SEC. We know it. I'd rather them just say that than try to be like, oh, well, we got to play Oregon and like, okay, who cares? Or do you got beat by Oklahoma State? Dude, we got to four and oh the other day and people around here were like, you going to play off? You doing all these things? And I was like, you know, I'm putting up a front, but our next four games were Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU and Texas. And I was like, who else has that, like, who else has that run? And I was like, well, guys, just just hold on here. I will say, do Ohio State's credit, Ohio State went out and played Texas, right? Ohio State's great. Yeah. Incredible. Jeremiah Smith's the best player in the country. Yeah. And Julian Sains legit. Yeah. I mean, like, out of all of those teams, yes, Ohio State is proven it year after year after year. Like, they are. Sure. But it's the kind of flare ups where I'm just like, all right, man, I am, I've been fighting this battle all week about the Indiana schedule and Indiana fans will come because I think Signeti, what he is doing in college football and then how he's scheduling don't match up. He got to Indiana, the worst program in the country and he said, Google me. I win. And he poached his chest and he said, F Michigan, F Ohio State, and he came in with his chest bowed out and said, we're going to do this. And then he did it. Yeah. And it's amazing and unbelievable. He's won 21 games in a row. And he ought to be throwing that weight all around. And then when it comes time schedule, he's like, let me tell you something. I'm Kurt Signeti. And we're playing Eastern Kentucky and Howard and we're going to play on like that. If you're going to be at the top of the sport, I like you should be at the top of the sport. Go, go play the go, go do what Ohio State did. Yeah. Go down to Texas and play him. And to be honest with you, win that game, I mean, arts did what he did, but like it wasn't it. Like if I'm going to have a state fan, I'm not like, okay, I don't come out of that. I don't come out of it thinking like, oh, dude, we're over. It's like, all right, we could have won that game. Yeah. Played against a great quarterback. You let him back at home. All right, whatever. They lost that game. They're not hurt at all. Yeah. I was like, and then the SEC just cannibalized itself. It's like, and especially now with like so many, you know, Florida whoops up on Ole Miss, and then goes and gets handled by Missouri. Yeah. And then you're like, dang, Missouri's good too. Yeah. Like, where did that come from? Yeah. I don't know. I just, I get very, obviously I'm an SEC homer, but I, since I got national, I have opened up to the rest of the world a little bit. Like you do have to acknowledge the big 10s, one, three national titles in a row, and that's really all that matters. Yeah. And three different teams. Now we can talk about circumstances in one of those teams, but it still happened. And then you got, you got Ohio State who wanted and you got Indiana who wanted, so right now the big 10s on top of the sport, but it still is the week to week grind of an SEC team. It's not replicated anywhere else in the sport, and you can say that. I can say that, and there will be people in chat right now saying SEC homers, well, that's not really the truth. And I think even outside of that, you have to look at it and be like, all right, I, you would, I would think you'd have to say, all right, I see what they're talking about. Yeah. They, one through 10 in the SEC, can go and play with anybody, anybody, and then again, Ohio State would handle a lot of those teams. I'm not saying that. And, and Oregon is getting better. I said that about the Oklahoma State, like, you know, early, yeah, it's like it happened. Notre Dame's probably good enough to do it. They just don't. Yeah. And, you know, in BYU, like BYU's been consistent there there and like you got to kind of say, like, yeah, it's a really good football. It's a Matt quarterbacks great and they, they go out and win football games, but yeah, I don't know. I guess I'm letting my SEC flag. Are you, are you a stadium go or like, oh, when you go around, let's say you're somewhere in like May, you go to Penn State, you go to Happy Valley and you're, you know, doing whatever you're doing. Do you say, I give me an hour and let me go check out the football stadium. Yeah. We, we, we go, run around and it would look like when we were out with Combs a couple of years ago, we played a lot, we played Happy Valley. That place is pretty, a place pretty special. Yeah. Yeah. We try to go check out. Check out. Was that in the stadium? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. He was doing a stadium tour then. We didn't get to do the, I think they did the big house this past year. They did Oklahoma. He did, uh, he did South Bend or, yeah, another name, uh, the weather sucks. So I didn't go. Yeah. I was kind of go with the weather. Yeah. And then like, and I even say that, but I, I couldn't also couldn't afford to get even as they like, I will say this as I went on my tangent, the, of the games I do want to go see. I want to go see. Oh, that's a good question. Michigan, Ohio State. Yeah. I want to see that, um, I'd love to go to game in South Bend. Yeah. Um, how about the Rose Bowl? Rose Bowl. Be cool. I've, uh, of the ones I haven't been to, I've been to Michigan. It's very, the stadium itself is underwhelming. Yeah. This is built kind of down into a hole. You got the big Michigan signs outside, but the stadium itself is underwhelming. I've been outside of Ohio State and never been into the game. But I would, uh, I'm kind of, I would love to see the Rose Bowl. I haven't been in an everyday. Yeah. Even though it's an hour away, that's, that's one. And I haven't been to a game and happy Valley and be for stadium, but I would love to check it out. Yeah. It's a, it's a, it's a big stadium. A lot of people, uh, see, I've been to Clemson. Clemson was, Clemson was fine. Yeah. It was all right. We went last year. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. It was great. I will say this about the Clemson fans. They were awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Like they were, well, they're, they're, they're, they're, if we're just being honest, they kind of belong in the SEC. And we're not saying money wise or whatever they probably like with their, but they're fans and their fandom. I was going through the tailgate and looking how they carry themselves like they're, they're SEC. There's two fans. Yeah. Yeah. And Florida, Florida State, they're SEC fans. Like there's just a certain, a certain energy and passion. Like I've been to places, like I've been to NC State. They're, they're, they're, they're kind of, they're waiting for basketball season stuff. But, but Clemson, all they care about is what happens 12 Saturdays a year. All Florida State cares about is what happened 12 Saturdays a year. And that's the SEC nest to me. That's it. Yeah. And the only team in the SEC that isn't like that is Kentucky and Will Stein might change that. And I'd say that's turned around. Yeah. Cause I always wondered Jordan. I hope it doesn't turn around too fast, but I always wondered like how long does a team have to win in football before they're no longer a basketball school. Like if Kentucky won a national title in football, is it immediate? Is it one national title? Is it two? Cause in that's asking Kentucky not to be a basketball school is like asking me not to be fat and ugly. Right? It's just impossible. But like if Kentucky won three national titles in a row, they're not a basketball school. Yeah. You got to look at it and be like, no, that's football school. I mean, Indiana, Indiana. I feel like Indiana is a football school now. Now. A lot of that they haven't won in basketball forever, but like you win one in football. You might have gotten through your whole life. You're 40 years old. And you're like, I love basketball more because they give you more wins. Yeah. And as soon as football over here says, well, when a national title for you, you're like, you've gotten my intention. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's you just changed everything about your entire life. I'll say this as a LSU homer. I mean, look at what LSU baseball did during the 90s. I have no choice but to look at what LSU baseball has done. Yeah. And LSU is still a football school. That's right. Yeah. And it's been what seven, I can't even remember how many national championships we had in football or baseball. I think you got eight. Eight. Yeah. I believe it's eight. Five in the 90s. We got one with skeens. Yeah. Two more. Yeah. So you've got seven out of the 90s. Mineary has one and then this guy has two. Jay Johnson has two right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds super. I'm really happy for you. Oh. Mississippi. I haven't. I haven't been to the box either. That's been that would be a that would be like that that baseball experience sounds awesome. Now in the in the spring to you become just a or
Raging baseball Homer. Yeah. I mean, if if whatever sports season is, I'm a pretty sicko LSU fan. Oh, even like we'll wait all of it. There's a basketball pump. He's back like Bring it all. Let's go. Come walk. Yeah, whatever you can. Yeah, anything you know, yeah, just let me know. But yeah, like baseball I love taking the kids down there, seeing baseball and two. It's great. They come up to Vandy like Vandy's got a great squad. I told you earlier We got a lot of family in in Mississippi. So we can go down there and catch Ole Miss and Mississippi State and like it's it's fun. You're a songwriter, right? I am. You ever you ever sat down with your pen and your laptop? I don't know how you do your thing. I'm sure you go out to a camp house It's got nicer than my entire house and you all and you're doing a right retreat. Well, but it's a rental. Yeah, sure I'm sure you're on somebody's $2 billion camper and you're just having good smoke meets in your song right now That's what y'all call songwriters retreats, right? So you're doing your songwriting. You ever sit down and say all right crack knuckles I'm gonna write a college football anthem right here. You ever do that? You ever let that get into your mind where you want to write about that? I haven't No because it needs to be written. I'm telling the country artists of the world. It is out there to be written Yeah, like every single time while I'm will have a one throwaway line or somebody has the throwaway line about the cream Everybody has the lines about you know every time I'm like it's coming up coming up. Here it is. Yeah, I've never done like the full I never attacked like the full on college football anthem. Yeah, well, I'm just saying, but it is it is well open I'm just saying I need to get to it for hardy does also what I need I I asked him to do a question and he said I'm he said I might not write a college football one, but I might write a Mississippi state one Yeah, and that's And I didn't want to say this but the Brandon Walker College football show does need a theme song Okay, thoughts I can I can get to work on that Yeah, let me cut this interview short so I can go get to work on that. Yeah, I mean I don't yeah, you gotta How do you how do you match? What this show is in music? I think that's the first thing we need to tackle. Well first of all you would have had this You would have had to sing the show before. What are you talking about? I'm a massive fan. I appreciate you Um, LSU wins a national title next five years true or false true LSU wins two national titles the next five years to True true LSU wins that same name national championship this year this year. No What you're gonna laugh in his ass off. Why is your guy laugh? Oh dude, that was are you kidding me? He's Don't even do this show. This dude's giggling his ass off over here. Are you kidding me, bro? Are you alright? I see on your payroll what anymore Good lord dude dear god you sound like a little girl So what you sound like um back to this. Yes, give me a chip this year You realize Georgia exists. Yeah, Alabama exists. Great. Alabama's great. That's their great. Oh, I was state exists Yeah, Miami's there. Yeah, no name. No names there. I do like that. This is there. I do think and I have been more bullish on lane than Anybody else in the media and people like to I think he's a top five coach. Yeah, and I think what he did at Ole Miss Six years six times or he was there six years. I think he won 10 games four times They never won 10 games in the regular season and to do that and to build what he built there And honestly if he had if timing had worked out better and he had gotten trinidad this year to LSU Which I think was probably his plan. I think I would say they'd win an national title I don't know if they got the quarterback to do it this year. I mean, I see the I can see the hesitations. Yeah But I mean, I think I think Sam's dealing with something with the leg But since it's happened him in the pocket. He feels like he's gotten more comfortable in the offense Or running game what Harlan Berry did last game. Yeah, having another backup to kind another running back to kind of yeah To use the land could be could be huge, but I see you're I think offensively just off of what we do. I'm not necessarily as worried about the offense I am the defensively just with the injuries. Well, what makes is it's kind of a heart. That's a that's a he was he was the guy But he brought in so much talent defensively defensively. They're just look They look like a million bucks just running around that speed and the athletes. It looks like the old LSU Yeah, had you know the to kneel hunters and had the guys run around So many guys. I would say that like it at least feels like we're getting back to LSU has the size and and we swarmed We swarmed the football and that's what we were doing When and I love Blake Baker man. Yeah, that that is he's the man and I just think we close. I love where But and I'll say that I mean, yes, I think LSU is going to win every single game in step on the field I will say I will say this about LSU I think Lane is the perfect coach to improve offensively We get week over week You can give him a quarterback that's a little deficient and maybe can't do this thing and he figures it out And he schemes opening schemes over it like he did that at Ole Miss early Jackson Dart wasn't exactly great And then he's kind of skimmed over it. He skimmed around it. So anyway, we could sit here I think we want to say I wonder how many like I was in my fan probably started this and probably tailed off Towards the middle. I would say no, I think I think some such a I'm such a ball-nower And apparently you are too that I think people respect ball-nower and whether it's LSU homer or not. Yeah You know, do they disagree heavily with you and they're going to their message board saying Jordan Davis can go to hell. Sure Probably so sure, but I go to hell every day. Like I'm yeah. Hey, we stay that's that's the best part about being a fan. Yes, like come give me Come give me shit. I wouldn't love like I love and I've got a friend that is a diehard or how a state fan We've been having the big 10 SEC conversation for years and it's fun to have because I know those guys are I know those teams are good But that's what makes college football so special so if you're on a stage at an arena near you and the next Well, I don't know six weeks or whatever and you're singing your love song and everybody and all the girls going crazy And you look out and there's an LSU suck sign That kind of get a reaction out of yeah, I'll try to address it You know the worst one that I had so this was for net litter for nets the last year Um We kicked off against Wisconsin yeah in South Bend yeah, or yeah, I think it was or no it was in it was the Lambo yeah So I had a show that night and I posted a photo of Leonard from net Posing for the Highsman sure and I said Wisconsin have fun with him tonight and Wisconsin beats us And I had eight of those posts printed out yeah in the stands look and because we played in Madison So yeah, that was a tough one. Yeah, college football at all. It'll it'll get you. It's the best man There's nothing better. Hey, I appreciate you stopping by man. I know you may You're on the road doing your thing and killing it keep keep up with success. Congratulations to you. Thank you But I also love just two sudden boys shooting a shit about college football. Absolutely. All right. Hey If you're not playing LSU go state go state. Yeah. Thank you very much Oh, he has a plug. Okay. I'm sorry. Sorry. Okay. I didn't know you had your own plug. I did do I What is it? Well, I'll tell you. Yeah, you tell me. Hey news to me baby. Good Has new single a country radio mess And then can listen here. I don't know why there's a hyperlink on this sheet of paper. Yeah, just I push it There's nothing I can do to click this hyperlink. Uh, maybe that's the technology this coming you can listen to that song anywhere You listen to music. I do know how to say that. I'm gonna listen to it on my way home as soon as I get in the car today So uh, you're you're the hell of a fucking songwriter. I'm sorry. I shouldn't cut when I got an actual celebrity here Hello songwriter. Hell of a performer Can I read you your bio that was provided? Oh god. Louisiana born and raised an LSU alumni and named LSU young alumnus of the year in 2021 We'll look at you go Tigers baby has been a victory hill parade grand marshal huge LSU fan go listen to his new single Mess, do you think they put LSU in that as much as they could so that you would have to read that? I think I think you might get a quarter every time I say LSU. That's what I think. I think I'm actually giving back to the LSU And I did I just buy a linebacker for next year. We we got a guy we're looking at That's the fuck out of you, that's Jordan Davis, thank you very much.
