I'm Chip Patterson, coming to you live at youtube.com/cover3 and everywhere you get your podcast on them, man. Thanks for hanging out. Smash that subscribe, smash that like and come and join us in the chat, 8K, a the Cover 3 tailgate, where there is no shortage of commentary about officiating. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Where's that? Look, we got multiple top 10 teams taking losses. We got teams that we thought that were going to be national title contenders that already have two losses. By the time we've even gotten to the middle of October that we had just rivalry, shenanigans, we had huge swings. We had, I mean, the absolute funniest ways and stupidest ways that we could have results in college football. And all of it will likely be discussed by the time we get out here, along with re-ranking the top 25, gentlemen, 20 to 17 is our final in Tuscaloosa. It was, as you know, some of the commentary in the tailgate is pointing out, I mean, it was a rematch of last year's SEC championship game and perhaps a preview of what we are going to see. Just Tom, first word to you, Georgia comes out on top, what'd you make of this title fight that we saw? It was a worthy bout. Right. Two good teams. Yeah. Like, a lot of what we expected to see, we kind of saw. We wondered, you know, killing Russell and this Alabama offense has been great, but they hadn't seen the defense like this, even though they'd been tested in other bigger games so far this year. And they didn't look nearly as good as they had, but they still looked plenty, you know, ready for the fight and capable. Gunner Stockton looked pretty good. He had, you know, he had the one interception. He nearly had two, but overall 18 to 22 for 249 yards, he's over 10 yards per attempt. He was pushing the ball down the field pretty well. Five teams were able to run the ball. That kind of surprised me a little bit. Like I didn't think that they would have as much room to move on the ground, but both teams were able to do it like what, Georgia finished at five, three, Alabama finished at five, six, and that's including the sack yardage. So like, it was, they look like two teams that I expect will be in the top five-ish area all season long, and they looked like two teams that I think are fully capable of making a run once the postseason does begin. So yeah, I don't know if this is a preview of the SEC championship. It wouldn't shock me if it is, and even if it's not, it wouldn't shock me if we see him like two more times. Yeah, it felt like there were just so many really good players making really good plays that didn't lead to a lot of touchdowns. You know, like Georgia was very intent on not allowing Bama to get over the top, so they were going to be permissive on some of the stuff underneath. I thought Bama, you know, blocked some of the light box stuff pretty well and hit the explosive runs off it. I thought Georgia's offensive line played really well. And like I say that, saying like Pierre, for Bama tonight, played exceptionally well. He was a terror, but those Georgia offensive linemen, we talked about like those guys are like 17, 18, 19 years old, the trio, and they moved people like they looked really good up front. You know, I thought Gunner was pretty clean overall. I think the one ball is probably an interception. I don't, like maybe they're going to show me an angle where the ball definitely hit the ground, or maybe I just need to get my eyes checked. But overall, like, you know, he just seemed to be in control, didn't have a whole lot of like disastrous, you know, type plays and dandridge. The freshman or she referred Georgia coming up with just two, like a massive contested catches. That kind of turned the game for them in, in my opinion, I, you know, the Georgia deserved to win. I don't know if anybody really deserved to lose that game tonight. Like they both played really good football, I thought, and, you know, Georgia just made, you know, couple more plays here on the end, and so I made apparently a really good defensive play down in the end zone, which, who, buddy, I've never seen the ball hot like that. We can, we can get to the calls in a little bit. I, it felt like they got host, but, yeah, for sure, I mean, like it's not like a Bama definitely deserved to win. But like down the stretch, it was like, oh, wow, this is like, these are really not going their way. Um, like a huge shout out to Dwight Phillips, you're down Nate Frazier, you're down Sean C bowens him and bow walker just out there trying to carry the load. Um, the, Tom, I appreciate your kind words. Yes, the, the, the start of the third quarter was interesting. They, they came out and they were like, all right, here's what we're going to do. I know we're down to running backs, but we're going to run the football right at you. Goes back to that Georgia offensive line. It was a statement of intent. The wide receivers Taylor had a couple grabs throughout the game. I don't know if he finished with three, but I know that there was a couple moments where I was like, OK, like you, you're getting just enough, Elias Williams of the big catch down the stretch, too. It's like you're, you're getting just enough out of this and, and Gunner Stockton being the man, mostly playing mistake free, but mistake free football. I love this too. Um, what was on your wish list for this game? Did you want to see Keelan Russell running circles around Georgia NFL players and like evading them in mid, who Dini like ways and making plays, but mentioned on big game breakdown. Like, look, he's going to burn you on a third and eight or a third and nine and just keep the chains moving. Yes, yes, yes, I mean, we got to see all like everything we wanted to see from this game. So just a, I feel very satisfied. If you're an Alabama fan, you're frustrated, like you are, you are mad as hell about whether that was an interception or not, about the past interference. Can you still tell yourself that you're very encouraged about this team? Like, what's the message to the Alabama fan in your life here on this Saturday night? You look better than Texas does, right? Yeah. You got, like you've got a kid. If you're a BAM fan, you're like, all right, cool. Definitely taking us in the rematch. Like I get that much more maturity from Keelan Russell, right? Like maybe, maybe a couple of those drop balls, Georgia put on the ground with those fumbles. Maybe they don't bounce right back to Georgia. You know, like, I think if you're a BAM, you're like, hey, roll it out again. We're confident in winning. I think Georgia's like, hey, you know what? We're going to guys are going to keep getting better as well. We're going to get phrasier back, we're going to get Bowen's back, like we'll see you there in the dome. That is something worth mentioning. Georgia fumbled four times tonight and didn't lose a single one of them. Yeah, they were lucky as hell in the fumble like that. Do you know what they felt like? Honestly, especially with the calls and the fumbles, I said, you know what, maybe, we spent all week going, hey, did you guys see? We've got inside the locker room before two of stomped on everyone's heart. You know, like, we're spending all this time rolling out the Saban documentary and oh, by the way, Kirby's two and seven against Bama, right? Kirby's got himself a Bama problem, nine losses to everybody else in America and seven losses to the Crimson tide. Yeah, I was like, okay, maybe it's starting to bounce Georgia's way after, after some close, close margins, 2023 SEC championship game. Also, you know, if we want to talk about close, close margins, maybe there's some water finding its level between two programs that I do think are maybe a little more even than the two and seven record might suggest. I don't, I don't think Georgia's concerning himself, themselves, any kind of little brother here to the Crimson tide. And for the first win, and I know they didn't play in the East West divisional era, like you just didn't have a lot of games. This is not a rivalry like Florida, Georgia. This is not a rivalry like the iron bull. They just don't play enough and have not played enough. But to just be able to say, hey, first win in Tuscaloosa in a regular season games since '07. Assum. And we'll talk about the, the full top 25 a little bit later, but I, I don't think I had to be too bold with this one. I know. I know Notre Dame's win against the Cardinal was impressive. We can get to that. But I do think Georgia will be number one, which will be the first time that the Bulldogs have been number one in the AP Top 25 polls since 23 early, 24 before the loss to Alabama. Okay. And the first, Kaelin DeBore win against Georgia in early 24. So September of 2024 for the last time, Coleman Williams game, right? Correct. Yeah. Okay. He's 17. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So I think I'm going to be number five. Like it's, you know, going through the AP poll history, I was like, go shoot. It's, there you go. You know, Oregon held down. Remember that number one spot for so much of the 2024 season. It will hire state held it down for most of 2025. Georgia Bulldogs set to take over that spot. We'll get to the Texas Longhorns and why that spot is opening a little bit. But I mean, that's the hilarity. What, anything else on the Georgia or Alabama side of this one? I, I do think Georgia rattled Kaelin enough in the first half, like, like, Bama had some guys open that he just rushed, you know, and we think so much about like the plays in the second half, but they, they lost some drives there because Georgia got to, you know, and then just like not standing in the pocket, you know, escaping the pocket too early, right? Like when the protection was okay, rushing some of the throws, that's the kind of stuff. Like if he cleans that up a little bit, they're like really scary. And obviously Georgia, I think equally scary, right? The defense. is awesome. Gunner's decent player. I thought played clutch tonight in a couple of big moments. Some of the younger receivers and younger past targets, if those guys keep coming on, whether it's a dandridge or a tailor or some of those young tight ends, they're really scary. Yeah. Dijon Lee has some apologies to issue. To his teammates? Yeah, I was going to say. You know what it's what he did was really stupid, but I also understand why he did it because I mean, he had like, he's been getting picked on like crazy. And there were a couple play like the past interference on like the third and 22 and that kind of it's just it's like, you could tell it was in his head and then he was just really pissed off and just didn't really think it through with the end there. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, like even the calls that were fair calls, it did feel like a lot was going George's way, you know? Well, like go back to the first half, right? But what if Bammett doesn't score there? They're going to say, hold it, whoa, we should have 12 on the clock, not eight. We got a we got a first down the Kipper. Like it felt it just felt like a lot of things went George's way. And I don't know that I would pick Bammett on a rematch, but like they were kind of impressed. They only lose by three with how much stuff was going against them. I did absolutely love to board going for it there, though. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like a freebie. Like, okay, if we don't get it, we don't get it, but still if we get it, we've got the lead. I mean, three is worth more than seven. And how many times are you really going to get down there? Yeah. Exactly. It was just like so many coaches would kick the field goal there. Yeah. Well, let's just get three points. Oh, no. See, it's just I think it's time I come clean. We are a podcast of transparency. And, you know, I was painted as a big time Georgia hater. Because if you listened, if you listened, you would realize that when I came on here, on this year podcast, this year platform, and I talked about, I was like, I didn't feel like they played four quarters against Oklahoma. I wanted a little bit more. I got painted as a hater. I mean, really just like sold out by our own team. I mean, hung out to dry on social media for people who aren't even fans of the team, just to come and rip me to pieces as a nonball nowhere. But then you got the behind the scenes camera. You heard Kirby smart addressing the team after the Oklahoma win. And what he's saying, seniors, seniors, Ernest, did we play four quarters? Did we land a left hook? Do we land a right hook? No, we didn't. But what's going to happen? What's going to happen? We put it together. Are we going to be tight? No, we're not. Okay. And what happened was it was on the line. Okay. It was on the line. Where was that? Georgia third quarter check it. Georgia full game check it. I mean, listen, I need to admit to you for transparency, say, I am a sleeper cell. Kirby and I were like this. We understand that you needed to be motivated. You needed to understand because as Kirby told his players after the Oklahoma win, he said, don't listen to anybody say, oh, you got so good. You got so good. You ain't put it together yet. And when we do, we're going to be tight. No, they were not tight. Your Kirby is really good, dude. I think like chips that studies Kirby to be the leader of this podcast. I think I wonder Kirby watches this show, be like someday and that's the hair I'm going to get. Oh, man. Yeah, I just, I don't even, like this, this is why championship programs have certain standards and why they hold themselves to standard. So that when you're down to running backs, when you've got backups that have to come in the game, they're not scared shitless. They are ready to play against big boys. You know, and that's, it was awesome. It was a big boy game. Stockton catching some bad snaps. Oh, the right hand a bobble pull it down. Yeah, like that, that's really important. Yeah, big time. I just, yeah, great, great experience, fun game. And you know, maybe we'll get to see it one more time. It's time for him. He said, maybe two. Maybe two. Who knows? Let's see. We'll, let's go ahead and break. Coming up on the other side, my oh, my big text corn dogs and that big old hat getting worn by the underdog, a great, great afternoon for Oklahoma football and Brent Vinnables. Did he speak it into existence? Will Archmaning have a four quarter game? All that and more. Next. Back here on the cover three podcast. And what a fine reminder from Tom Fernelli that this instant reaction show is brought to you by Modelo. And all of our instant reaction shows, we appreciate Modelo for being the official beer sponsor of the cover three podcasts. So, um, earlier this season, we got to see Texas mount its heroic comeback from a double digit deficit, right? And everyone was so impressed. We decided to throw Texas up and make them the number one team in the country. But when you beat Ohio State and when you take care of business, you're going to be able to always say that. But I think that in the back of everyone's mind, we wondered, okay, so what does Texas look like as the best team in the country? Not should they be ranked there? Not what does their resume say? But is this the best team in the country? The consistency issues absolutely showed up in a late game, second half collapse. Archmaning with some bad mistakes. And ultimately, it was Oklahoma with a game winning field goal to defeat the long horns. And, you know, Danny called it out. Brent Vinnables, I don't know if that was, you know, some sort of cosmic, you know, message that was being delivered or what happened, but maybe it will turn their season around. Who knows? What do we make? But first thoughts on Texas blowing the lead and losing 27 to 24 in Dallas to Oklahoma? Yeah, we set all a week. Like if Texas just plays clean, Oklahoma's offense is not good enough to beat them. This is a very good Texas defense. You just can't be turning the ball over and doing crazy stuff. You'll hit it like if you just, you know, eat the sacks, right? Punch the ball away. You'll hit enough shots because OU plays kind of a crazy style of defense. They'll probably get a lot of TFLs. They'll probably try to shut down the run game. They'll get some sacks on you, etc. And they did all that, but they had the turnovers and the turnovers were huge turnovers. I mean, like the Archmaning fadeaway jumper pick six was like by far the most important play in that game, right? Like it totally flipped the game on a tent, but material played terribly, right? Oklahoma couldn't run the ball worth a damn. They couldn't hit an explosive play all day. Offense. If Texas just eats the ball and punts it away, they're going to win this ball game, but they shot themselves in the foot and, you know, like credit Oklahoma for being there to catch that ball and then Bowen for running it back. And like for never like quitting, right? It's hard to win a game like that when you have 230 yards offense. Right. And they did because Texas, I don't want to discredit, oh, you by saying Texas allowed that to happen, but like you can't be throwing that ball. And on the other hand, like Manning had a couple of really, really good passes too, but it just, it seemed like there's no, like it's not smooth, not him specifically, but just there's not a lot of like just drop-back hit a guy and rhythm, like it feels like everything kind of has to be skeamed or or shotty, which is kind of stark in a little bit, but are sark easy, and I guess you want to use that verb. But man, like that, that's a harder one to lose for them, honestly, because like I think, you know, I don't want to go like a media playoff talk, but that remove their margin of error somewhat, you know. It probably helps that some remaining teams on our schedule apply crap today, for sure, but still like you had that one in hand, you just not need to have the critical turnover and they didn't, they, they, they just do it. Texas Florida immediately becomes an anxiety bowl. Um, yeah, this, you kind of thought this was Brent Venable's masterpiece, man. Like if you look at the stats, and I tweeted this, like EPA per drive, Oklahoma was at minus one. EPA per snap was at negative 0.09 per pass, negative 0.22, rush, negative 0.21, an offensive success rate of 41.5%, and an explosive play rate of three and a half percent, and they want another fun stat here. Uh, points allowed by Texas through their first two SEC games. This is from CJ Vogel. The defense has allowed 23 points. Special teams and offense have allowed 21. Wow. If like without Texas's defense, who are they? I mean, it's funny because we made fun of Oklahoma for the last, I don't know, most of the season for what Oklahoma is. It really good defense and nothing else. Like Texas is basically just Oklahoma, but like, yeah, it is. No, no, no. I was like, Oklahoma is the SEC's I one. Texas is the SEC's Oklahoma. Yeah. Yeah. They're both like, you know, baseball teams with really good pitchers. Yeah. Texas has like a couple home run hitters, whereas Oklahoma, just has nothing on offense. Yeah. Oklahoma was playing small ball. They're trying to win one to another. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's like one path for them to win. And they took it. I just love the path open. Yeah. Yeah. Because like that blocked punt was, I think it was, you know, that was their first touchdown. And if you look in the first half of this game, Oklahoma at 69 yards of offense, and they were only down 10 at halftime, like they should have by all rights been dead at that point. But, you know, you mentioned, Arch had two really good throws and he did. But I said last week, you know, Arch will give you two good drives to game. Today, he only gave you two throws. He didn't even give you the full drives. He just gave you a couple really nice throws. Nothing that he had some awful throws. The pick six was just horrific. Like anytime you're going one on one with John to tear and you look like the bigger spas, that is not a good place to be. Because John matured like he wasn't great today. He was what 18 to 26 for 155. Not, you know, 8.6 per completion. I can't do the math in my head on the attempt right off the top of my head. But it's like something that's pretty bad. Yeah. No, no, no, no, no, no, we were given flowers for the zero in the interception column. But yeah, yeah, the only like, if Oklahoma had any shot and held to win this game today, it was, we can't turn the ball over. Right. We have to beat, they have to be the ones that screw up. We have to force the mistakes upon them and we have to capitalize on it. And they did like that was not a pretty game. That was not the kind of game where I sit and think Oklahoma has suddenly turned things around and like, you know, what Vennables muttered under his breath at that press conference. You know, save our season. It'll turn our season around. I don't think this win does that. But I do think that this win feels really good for Oklahoma fan, like to beat Texas, because with Texas being number one in the country. So like, you're in a much better spot now than you were at the start of the day. You are still a very flawed football team overall. But at least, you're a very flawed football team that might have in the long run ruined your rival season. I think like it also is, okay, we're not going to have a disaster season, right? We're not going to miss a bowl. I really don't think just based on the remaining schedule. You know, like we're going to, we're going to have to have a reset offensively. We like how we're recruiting in a lot of positions. We kind of have to believe Vennables is the guy because we gave him a contract extension before the year, which is probably silly. But, you know, nevertheless, it, yeah, I agree with him. I think that that's really, that's it. And if you're, if you're Texas, you're like, come on, man. Like, no, almost not very good. You know, like their offense is garbage. Their defense is really good. And yet, like, our defense played just as well as theirs did. If not better, you know, we had 10 tackles for loss. We allowed like nothing. We didn't give up any freebies. Like, what, one explosive play. Maybe I guess two, they had a 20 year, like we're counting up like, oh, they had a 20 year pass guy's like, like nothing big, right? Like Oklahoma to move the ball. Texas as AP number one, losing to an unranked team has not happened since 1981. This is also Oklahoma's first win against all or just Texas. What? That a number one team lost to an unranked team. I come on, Tom. I said, for Texas. Okay. Well, I mean, that's, that's, you know, how many weeks his Texas been number one. But I'm so we've seen number one lose to an unranked team many times. Okay. That's true. I was just being clear, Jim. It's not everybody's watching the show chip. I can't all see the graphic. It's hard for caring about the listeners. I appreciate you. We haven't enjoyed one damn game. And you just forget about everybody. It all goes right to your head. 1981, 1961. And then today, that's, that's, that's what you're dealing with in terms of Texas. Seems like it happens a lot for Texas. Yeah. Oklahoma also not the best record against Texas when Texas is number one. So they are able to get that into your point. Huge feelings and vibes boost for the Sooners. And I have not materially changed my opinion of the quality of their team at all. No, you know, agreed. Just a great rival. Reward. Great, great rivalry. Don't start getting crazy. Let's go easy there. How crazy can we get anything else? Oklahoma, Texas related. I mean, Texas remaining scheduled to be interested. Look at it real quick. In fact, the strikers got it, right? Because then we start to get into at what point are you are what you are? You at some point we have to stop asking. And when they put it all together, when all the video game pieces click, when the team that looks so awesome on paper, are you, I think I'm not ready to declare them not that I think the frustrating part is like you saw it for about 25 minutes against Ohio State, where the offense looked really good and the defense kept playing awesome like it has all year. And you just haven't haven't seen that come back yet. You look at the they've got Florida next week, and then it's old miss, and then it's Mississippi State. So they're all at home, but still, you know, we'll see. Then they're on the road from a zoo, then they're on the road for LSU, then they've got Arkansas, Texas, and I'm like, they kind of, I honestly, what their schedule, they can afford two more losses and they'll still be in the conversation. Right. Because that went against Ohio State is just going to be such a huge card for them. But like, I don't know, man, like there's, there's no guarantee they're only going nine and three. It's not because this isn't like, it's one thing if they would have like, if you think of Ohio State when they lost to Texas, Ohio State didn't play poorly in the game. They had like a bad quarter, and they lost by a point. They trailed for eight seconds in the entire game. This isn't one of those cases for Texas. They didn't look good at any point in this game, even when they were running. So there's yeah, I don't know, like if you're Texas, you should be a little nervous about the rest of the season because your schedule maybe it looks a little more difficult, even then we thought before the season, but it's but also touched on earlier. Maybe some of these games aren't quite as problematic as they seem before the day started. So how crazy can we get with UCLA, especially with potentially a backup quarterback, because I gotta tell you, I'm not sure, I'm not, I'm not sure we were, I don't, I'm not sure we were growing the game. You know, we sent Kansas and Arizona State to London to grow the game. I'm not sure we were growing the game as Oregon and UCLA were down to their backup quarter bags. And, and buddy, the offense was tough to come by. True. This was ugly, but it was exciting for UCLA. It was another Oklahoma and UCLA handshake. Yes. I mean, they threw for like 10 yards and attempt. Yeah, right. Like that. That's, it's pretty nasty. Oregon's offense. It, it's probably really painful for Oregon fans that like every time they play a big game and their offense stinks it up, they have to go see like Kentucky is immediately following, right, or live at the same time. I was like, Oh, God. We miss Will Stein so bad. You know, listen, Will Stein doesn't make up for seven turnovers. No, they have seven. Seven. I don't think, but there's the thing, I don't know, I don't know if Oregon had seven. Don't worry, bud, because you have seven turnovers, but it's still only minus four in the turnover margin because you got three turnovers from UCLA. I went to Florida State, okay, put a four to public schools. It's hardly count that high set seven turn. Wait, hold on. Did it? I'm right. That's what I know they had seven. Okay. Good. I just pulled that off the top of my head. Didn't have that one written down, but yeah, I think it's seven turnovers, but it was still minus four because UCLA had three turnovers. Trying to look at Oregon head. 15 turnovers all of last year, they had seven today in 2024 with Will Stein. They had 11 all season in 2023. They had, I don't know, but no, this was this was a weird game in that UCLA only one by two UCLA did not play that particularly amazing, but also UCLA kind of dominated this game. Yeah, UCLA probably should have won by a lot more. Had they played even a C plus B minus game, they probably win this game by two or three scores. Bad red zone for UCLA. Yeah, they had if they lost this game, that is what we were blaming, blaming right here, like red zone execution issues, points that they left on the field or dropped into the end zone. Yeah, they had four red zone possessions and came away with 10 points. It's hard to go on the road and upset Oregon that way, but hey, you did it because this is this year's Oregon, which also I think is the other part of the conversation. Here's the thing. Like when Dylan Raeola came in against USC, he looked fantastic, right? And we were on this show talking about how great he looked and how ready he was and how it was a real kind of stepping stone for him. I'm convinced that the reason Dylan Raeola played well against USC was because he didn't expect to play because as soon as he knows he's going to be playing again, he fell right back into the dumb shit he did all the time at Nebraska. He was putting on his and one mix tape today. Every single throw had to be fading away off the back foot. The same stupid stuff he did at Nebraska the entire time that drove me crazy that whenever I called him out for it, Nebraska fans told me I was a hater and I was an idiot and all this stuff. Now he's at Oregon and he's doing the same damn thing again. It's like it's just it's infuriating because he is very talented. But he insists on trying to make a cool throw instead of stepping into it and ripping it like the one interception He threw from the end zone that finally got him benched where he threw into double coverage into a window That wasn't there while fading into the end zone off of his back foot if he just steps into it and rips it Guess what the throws probably there, but since you felt like looking like a thrown or rainbow you gave the UCLA Defenders 20 minutes to get over there and pick it off It's that kind of dumb crap that he has done throughout his college career And it's that kind of dumb crap that got him benched today, and it's that kind of dumb crap that's got organ in the position It is where it's got to put Brock Thomas in the game to try to save him You know a Brock to his credit played pretty well Brock was 11 to 15 for 156 yards of a touchdown He played much better than Dylan, Raiola did, but they need Dante more back next week bad week I Pretty sure right on I think the last time a power four team had seven more turnovers was was wake forest in 22 They turned it over eight times against Louisville like that That's crazy seven. I knew it was a ton like there's a lot of games going on at that time I mean, they're shelf like offensive line combos. They can't seem to get that right like there's like zero run game Man, they're they're in trouble, dude like they're they've got no room for air. Mm-hmm. Oh whoa. Oh, yeah Go ahead. No, I mean well I don't think you're in trouble long term. I just think your season's done I mean who they still they still have a Games left against Nebraska Ohio State like I don't this isn't a team. It's getting in at nine and three to me Especially if you three losses are to the ranked teams you end up playing and let's just get like 2017 style chaos or sorry 2007 style chaos. No, like they They're not conference probably not good enough unless Oklahoma State were Yeah, I can actually see your path. It's a very small path. The Oklahoma State wins the big 12 and USC like runs away and like continues to stack wins. I mean right now. Yes, you go nine and three. Yeah, right So I'm not gonna spoil it, but Oregon obviously their Status to be ranked is up in the air and like still will be up in the air as Teams are playing late into the evening, right? They're they're gonna be kind of right there on the chopping block On their resume three and two four games against teams that I think are gonna be ranked inside the top 25 with the two and two record Yes, what two wins is more than a lot of teams have, you know, so it is it is a complex and complicated resume I think Tom the reason that we talked about the nearer margins. I'm just still so shook by how far they have come in quality Without much turnover, you know That's that that is the real disappointment where they could finish the year nine and three and be right on the Like right on the edge and we'll be debating or we'll be fighting Oregon against some SEC team and knowing that Oregon's probably not gonna get picked, but you know Still it's just that they could not put it together with this team. That's super disappointing But you know who is gonna be in the conversation UCLA. Yeah, like obviously the health of Diko is going to matter, but shout out to a tied defenbach for coming in Defenbach Defenbach for yeah, really closing it up going three for six for 43 yards and a tuddy there to get the job done Hey, and he was scooting to right when he came in the game They were like, oh, we're going with a design quarterback run with defenbach, but that's what it's getting to like I don't know what Nico status will be going forward, but the way UCLA is played this year It's not like they really need somebody to be a dropback passer. They very much have leaned into their running game And that was my concern for this matchup because I thought Oregon was a defense that could take that away And we saw bits of that where they were putting UCLA in third and long situations and it wasn't going well But the rest of their schedule Wisconsin Michigan State Nevada Minnesota Illinois at Michigan at USC They could probably do that and get away with it against most of these teams Like this is a team that I feel like is going to be ten and two Right Yeah, it's it's like I wrote about it last week or two weeks ago where they're like the 2024 Indiana They're except they actually beat a ranked team right away, but it's just They're going to take advantage of the schedule I don't think they're going to have much of a shot if they get to the playoff of winning games while they're there But I really do like their chances of getting to the playoff at this point If you were to ask me, I would say Ohio State, Indiana and UCLA are the three most likely big 10 teams to get to the college football playoff as of right now by far Mm-hmm Putting a microscope to UCLA. They were able to rip a couple of the explosive runs with way night that we've come used to We talked about the the injury where Nico ends up leaving the game Um, I did not expect the defense to perform that well and I don't I'm not just talking about the The point total here, but just it felt like they were not getting pushed around at all felt like they UCLA's defense was winning Often and sort of like putting Putting Rayola and the Oregon offense early into like really tough spots and making them sweat I thought that this game I mean very clearly from the lock spot I thought that this game was going to be fun and competitive, but I had it totally wrong I thought it was going to be that UCLA's defense maybe wasn't going to be able to answer the call I thought that you know Tatum 2 Odie negative the negative plays in this game for both teams were huge like 15 yard losses on sacks and things like that I thought that Oregon's defense played well enough for them to be able to win this game the To have UCLA's defense win the battle against Oregon's offense as consistently as it did throughout the game Stunner absolute stunner for me Tom the chat is on you about St. UCLA's better chance to make the playoffs in Iowa and I agree with you What do the odds say because I'm pretty sure everybody feels that UCLA has a better chance of making the playoffs tonight. Let's see. Well, UCLA's even money and I was like four plus one Yeah, so yeah, looks like I'm right Sorry Two other fun little things about this game one. I can't remember who brought it up on Twitter So I apologize to you, but it's a fun little factoid Bob Chasney and John Sumeral both lost playoff games last year as G5 had coaches Both of them have now beaten the teams they lost to and playoff at their new power for jobs nice because Sumeral beat Ole Miss And now Chasney beat Oregon so if you get to the playoff as a G5 team and you lose don't worry once your coach leaves He'll go beat that team and get revenge for you And another thing to think about if we're talking about UCLA being pretty much a coin flip to get to the college football playoffs right now What if Bob Chasney and UCLA get to the playoff in year one and Lincoln Riley still hasn't gotten there. Oh no The idea that that rivalry game is like playoff stakes hanging in the balance is incredible. Mm-hmm Just crazy thing to think about isn't it? Yeah, I did not have USC's win at Penn State as a as a headliner. I was gonna you know make sure we hit a few other things first But because it just happened it's in my mind Buddy he was that that win would mean that win meant a lot he was fired up I've I have not seen Lincoln Riley celebrate a defensive penalty as emphatically as he was celebrating a defensive Defensive penalty that did you know allow for them to be able to run out the clock and and seal the victory but You could tell that two and four record in the eastern time zone was way and heavy on on Lincoln You know he was trying to show some institutional control Lead lead the Trojans in and out a happy valley So My my baby was really good. Yeah, oh yeah, like we're really really played well The that defense I thought played good god USC like I don't know I have a very low opinion of Penn State's offense and to allow like 23 to them after what we've seen in recent weeks is it's not Yikes, they did do a very good job of completely taking away their run game at least but yeah Wasn't like the USC defenses the USC defense at this point you're gonna do what they do at least they they force that turnover late in the game to ice it So it's like hey, they did make a play Yeah, no, that was like the Lincoln Riley reaction to it like because we there was the anxiety bold this week Both of these teams were coming in and not feeling great Penn State obviously coming out of two game losing streak They didn't want to you know lose another whiteout game to be out of three game losing streak and then USC knew They couldn't afford to lose this one despite and they knew Lincoln like you showed He knew what the record was on the road. He knew how they'd perform it in these games He remembered what happened a few weeks ago with freaking Rutgers when they couldn't put Rutgers away You know it was a shootout. So for them to get this win even against a Penn State team. It's really I think it's huge But you know still a lot of big games left like their next game they're off next week, but then they're on the road again Against Wisconsin. Wisconsin looked pretty damn good. So They haven't escaped it yet, and they still haven't gotten to the toughest part of their schedule Right. Yeah, I mean they still grow Ohio State, Indiana and you and UCLA. Yeah Rocco's been so bad. Yeah, that stinks. I mean he had he had decent numbers tonight, you know I guess that's what I'm saying like why I was just pointed in the US these defense, like that offense is kind of trash and they allowed him to score 23 to I'll need to pull up the box score to double check that. I'll just say like to my eye and on my notepad, I was just like, man, this is this is when they really needed him to come up with some some big plays and he managed the game, but he didn't he did not go out there and like, well, obviously he didn't win the game, but you get what I'm saying. Yeah. Yeah. Not not great kind of haunting for a little that stadium in the final moments to see the packed white out, but just kind of hearing a lot of grumbling. Great great news for Lincoln Riley in USC because the anxiety bull breaks breaks your way in terms of you not having to deal with it for the for the Penn State side of this. Man, what's what is the vibe reversal? Because this is one of the games. Hey, do you love the team or do you love the schedule Penn State? We love the schedule. Well, guess what? We've had a couple of these games that were supposed to be the ones that define whether or not you're going to be a team that's going to be the relevant in the the big fun conversations at the big 10 college football playoff level. We're we're done here, right? Go on the road and beat Michigan. Okay. I mean, I think they're season as far as anything like they could have hoped to accomplish is done, right? If I'm the Penn State fan, I'm like, okay, what are we going to do in the portal, right? Like, are we going to start spending like like spending real money here? Do we want to compete with the Ohio States and Michigan's is Pat Kraft, the right guy at AD, like given, I mean, they they bungled that thing pretty bad, even though I think like Campbell's a good head coach, but like the how long it took, I think kind of kneecap him some over this year, you know, and they're not like one of those huge spenders, like they're not they're not spending 20, but they're not spending like 45, you know, and I think the big 10 needs them to step up and act like a big boy. Hmm. If you're not spending 45, what the hell is spending it on? Cause I know it ain't your basketball team. Right. Yeah. At least with Mila Montelevich, we had a theory. I mean, that it didn't work. The theory wasn't right, but it was very wrong. It was very wrong. But we didn't have the Will Stein factor in. They spend some in wrestling and some in hockey, for sure. But if I was pinched, that one's, I wouldn't spend on basketball. Did Gavin McKenna really bring that much to you? He's a hockey player, but he's a hockey player, but he's in the league now. He was the number one pick. Yeah. I did have another wardrobe change, but I'm not going to do that to Tom. There's a Carolina hurricane shirt over there. Listen, no, that game doesn't even count, bro, but Darts still out. Nazar suspended classless. If you guys even forced us to play it, if you had any kind of tacked or competitive will, you would use the postponed until we were full string. Speaking of Penn State Pat Kraft and in the tailgate, got to meet, meet Jared, passionate member of the tailgate at the Keynes game on Thursday night. He said, he said he's I'm a Penn State fan, to which I said, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry for your losses. I gave him a hug and consoled him. He was indicating that his group chats and his circle of the Penn State universe is prepared to target the guy who got him all gassed up, because he was referencing the same thing I did about the leaked conversation and how it's like, all right, we're in, we're in. Well, guess what? It's a big bet as an administrator. The big bet is that you put your name on the line for a higher. And when you do that, you're going to be the first line of defense. So Penn State fans keeping it moving. I don't have anything particular. While we're in this sort of corner of the world, I don't have anything on Ohio State. Two more touchdowns for Jeremiah Smith. We were running the dag on football a lot. Pretty much had the clamps on Maryland all day long. Pretty classic like, like, you know, let down, look ahead, sandwich type game. You know, don't get anybody hurt, go out there, get the win. We just nobody's watching. Committee's not watching. Just get it over with. Yeah. Yeah. We are, we, we got our touchdowns for Jeremiah Smith for the, they take just to continue to build the argument that is no longer argument. Now it's an explanation. He's the best player in college football at this moment. Is it like, is he going to have a case as the best college receiver ever? Yes. Yes. I think so too. Like he might have the best like individual season at, at like a big conference, like not a Hawaii or something like that ever. And I think if you look at like his, his three year career numbers, they're going to rival like some of the best all time four year career numbers to these guys. I think we see that at Ohio State, a place that has already had some of the best wide receiver talent of the last 40 years. So, yes, he is going to have that kind of conversation, but also in the big 10. It was another almost. I did. I don't know if you guys heard Matt rules conversation with Jenny Taft, but going into halftime. No. But I think he used the phrase game of our lives, you know, like playing the game of our lives out there. You know, like he was, he was in, right? He's like, this is the game of our lives. It was 10, 7 Nebraska, right? I mean, shoot. You're going, going to the locker room with the lead against the reigning champions. He was being asked about why he got so fiery with an official. He was like, look, I'm fighting for my team. He's like, the officials are doing a great job. I'm, it's the game of our lives. I'm fighting for the team. Well, unfortunately, it was the days of our lives. It was the game that's played out of your life over. Yes. It's the same game that is played out like each of the last this 30 times that Nebraska has been in this position. Oh my gosh. The reoccurring nightmare. It has, honey, it happened again. I don't, it ultimately, you do have to assign like some real credit here to Indiana for being able to step up and take advantage. Tom, I don't, I don't, how did Nebraska leave two receivers open on the fourth down? This is something that is kind of like dog Nebraska all year. Like you go back to the Ohio game and stats were tweeted a couple plays like RPO stuff for play action, the way that they play it. They've been confused a few times where they've had too many guys biting on the fakes. And you saw it on the first touchdown where like the deep safety came in despite the fact that there were three linebackers already in the box. We're ready in case the ball was handed off. That led to Marsha being able to get behind him easily. And then on that one, you see it like four guys come in on the fake handoff despite the fact that there are three receivers there. So it's like now you know you're outnumbered. Somebody obviously messed up. So there's suddenly there's two wide open guys with nobody covering them. Yes. Oh, and it's just becker and marsh. Those guys definitely are not going to the NFL, right? So it was just plain blown coverage, like just miscommunication. I don't know what if somebody got the call wrong. I don't know what it was, but just two really blatant miscommunications that clearly Indiana kind of picked up on and saved for some key spots and got some huge plays out of them. And also like for a sign that he said he stole it from a light pulled. Yeah, he said he took it from Kodo Nikki. Jalen Nikki. Yeah, and I'll. We're Kurt Signetti fans, but you know I these any football coach, he's he's just actually like not afraid to tell you he's just been watching ball all the time, not just you know, another coach might be like, oh no, the only thing that I watch is our team and our opponents. I definitely don't watch any others. He was like, oh yeah, we took that from what's the guy who just played for Tampa? These guys definitely watch ball all the time. They steal the crap out of place. Like if you see something work, why would it you do it? Well, like he's not like a hey, we like brag about we text coaches thing, but like I guarantee you, they shoot during other games that are not their game, especially during the by week, like they're watching college football. Right. Or just him having the awareness that Jalen Daniels was starting for Tampa. You know, like another coach might lie and tell you like, oh, I don't even watch the NFL, that didn't help us. He was like, oh yeah, I was watching Thursday night. I was crazy laughing at the Cowboys, laughing at the Cowboys. He's like any other American. The other thing is they never got the ball. No, like they had three drives in the first half. They were moving it, right? They went what, 51, 38 and 22, which are like not three and outs. Nebraska just kept converting, you know, third downs, like they would third and three, third and seven. They would just pick it up. Like they weren't really going anywhere with it, but they would just hold on to it. And it was like, all right, at some point, Indiana's probably going to get some stops here. They'll start to get out the field. Nebraska will start to have a three and out or two or Kalandria will do classic Kalandria stuff, which is a really bad turnover. But like they they moved the ball pretty much all day. You know, the issue I think is like their right game is really just wasn't there today, you know, compared to where it's been. And I do think some of the wind stuff impacted their ability to throw some of the deep ball. Like their explosives came on those RPOs. They weren't really deep shots. Yeah, I mean, if you're in Nebraska, it hurts because, you know, obviously you had the chance to win it, but like you did do like 80% of the job. Yeah, like of the things that you would have had to do to get this done, you did most of it, but you didn't finish. And it's one of those things where it's like, good teams know how to finish. And Nebraska has had a difficult time learning how to do that. And it's been through multiple coaches and it's been through multiple players. And they just, for whatever reason, they aren't able to do it. So whether it's not able to finish in the red zone or whether it's not able to finish on defense, because like they, they couldn't run the ball in the game, but early in the game, they were running it pretty effectively. Like you saw, they were going side to side, a lot of horizontal stuff, trying to get Indiana out of their fits, trying to get open lanes. And it was somewhat effective, not busting off huge runs, but they were having their moments. Then Indiana adjusted pretty early in the second or the first half. And the defense kind of started taking all that away. And the run game was gone. And then it wasn't until half time until I guess Indiana's offense was able to, you know, make the adjustments they needed to start figuring out, because in the first half, their offense didn't really do a lot, although they didn't really have the ball, because part of Nebraska's game plan was to control and dominate the ball. And they were doing a great job of it. They just weren't putting points on the board. So it's a really frustrating loss because of that. But on the flip side, like, I wrote, like Josh Hoover had his Mendoza moments. Like we've saw, like Indiana went undefeated last year, but they had a lot of close calls, especially on the road, where they needed Mendoza to bail their ass out of trouble. And the question was, could Hoover do that? Because Hoover has some tendencies to, you know, sometimes panic and not be great and keep his cool and moments like that. But yeah, there was the blown coverage on the one. And it was really just a one on one and an RPO easy read on the other, but he made the plays. And he did it despite the fact that he wasn't really playing great to begin with. Like he missed a few throws, but the win was clearly playing a factor in that. But also at the same time, we have now seen Indiana play three big 10 games. Rutgers was Rutgers. But the other two Northwestern and Nebraska, they were kind of in a scrap in the fourth quarter. And this is clearly like a team that is not to the level of what we saw, like there's no 63 to 10s with this team. I don't think against anybody in the big 10. Outside of maybe Rutgers. Yeah. Yeah. So that is something to be, you know, mindful of this team is not destroying people the same way we saw him do it last year. So we could see them in a lot more situations like this. Um, did you ever think Nebraska was winning this game? Yeah. Yeah. When they scored to go up 17 to seven, I thought they had a real shot of winning it. But then as soon as Indiana scored on the very next play on a 75 yard RPO, I said, Nebraska doesn't have a chance to win because that was the one to marsh. Mm hmm. That was the one where he hit marsh and stride kind of hit him like right in the belly and it was just track, track meat from there. Um, yeah, those, those flips kind of felt and felt like Indiana's defense was starting to get a little bit stronger. I thought they maybe were just a little sloppy early. I mean, just in terms of quality of performance, not being able to get off the field on the third down. Couple of like, you know, Harris gets a defensive pass interference penalty to extend a drive. I mean, there were, there were good players that were coming up a little bit short in ways. Like, I guess what? Surprise, y'all. It's college football. You know, you lost robots. Like, signates facial expressions. Like he, he was pretty just pointing with them at certain times, you know, and like that, that's when I start to think like, oh, man, I don't know. Like, maybe they're just off, you know, but Nebraska was also playing well. Right. Right. There's like the sample size isn't large enough to know because it's so rarely happened. Like today was the first time all year Indiana has trailed. It was the first time they've trailed since the big 10 championship came, I think last year, period. Kurt is like very aggressive when they're winning. But when they're losing, he's extremely conservative. Like with decision, like he'll punt on fourth down and he'll settle for field goals. Like he does not get, he doesn't have that same kind of blood lust when he's losing. It's like he's, I think maybe it's just confidence that, hey, I just need to keep this thing close and we'll have a chance to win it in the end. But it's, it's a very different approach. I've noticed when they are trailing in the rear moments that they are that he seems to be a little bit sheepish. Does he? Is he? Oh, don't step out of your comfort zone. Is he in like an attorney that waits for someone to slip up? But come on, and he, Esquire, I guess you know, saying like, maybe a trial attorney that doesn't go on the aggressive, but he's just waiting for, for you to get tangled in your words. It's like like the, don't ask questions. You don't know the answers to you thing. Yeah. Like when they're, when he doesn't have, couldn't leverage in the game. So we're just going to stay here, stay here, stay here, door open, jump, you know. I also think he trusts, I mean, Hoover, like, like you did, I mean, Dosa to get him in the right play, you know, like that, that kind of thing. Could be true. Don't ask questions. You don't know the answer to is great advice for an attorney. It's a horrible advice for anybody else. Just, just so you know, right? If you don't know the answer, ask the damn question. The only way you're going to learn it. I, I do think if you're in a brassica fan though, like you got to come away encouraged that this was a really difficult schedule, at least on paper that you had. It's like nub a little bit, but I mean, I, I think they're moving in the right direction. I didn't think you'd see it in the wind column this year, but like now you're like, okay, like now we don't feel quite as dumb for giving that rule this extension. You know, oh, sure. No, I, I think that especially because we all knew they would, they should start five and out. Like their first five games were cake. Mm-hmm. And that was like not second, like I was preseason, hey, like they should be five and O and Indiana comes to town. I wrote an anxiety ranking. He's like, obviously, this was a kick to the, to the nuts, but like the way they lost this game. But like, you were just hoping that if we did lose this game, we don't get embarrassed. At least, hold ourselves to a position where we feel like we can't compete going forward. And they did that, I think. Yeah. Yeah, where we, where we look at Oklahoma and where, you know, trying to say, like, oh, that was cute. That was like, you know, like fun for you. You know, with Nebraska, even as they lose, I think we walk away saying, no, you should be encouraged about the overall quality here. And look, look around the big 10 Nebraska. Who, who are you scared of right now? The list is a lot smaller than I think you might have even thought coming into the season, just with the way that some of these teams have performed so far through the first half of the year. I won more and then we'll, uh, then we'll, then we'll speed things up a little bit. Actually, any, but do you have LSU Kentucky? Did you have that one main screen? You were tweeting, but not tweeting. You were texting about it early. I went on Twitter much in the seven o'clock, eight o'clock window. So I wasn't sure if you would, you could have been tweeting about it, robust. I mean, you do tweet robustly sometimes. I do, but not use it on Saturdays. I'm trying to watch, like, yeah, exactly. You put all that, yeah, yeah, exactly. So I know you were texting about that early. You try to get that X money check Sunday to Friday. And then, you know, you prepare for big X dollars. You prepare for our very popular reaction show, then this time. So, yeah, what got us to the final stage? So I think that that's, so to give you my perspective, I'm parachuting in about midway third quarter. What did you see early in the game that set in motion, the ability for Kentucky to be able to have this just sort of electric moment in Lexington? Yeah, so I thought Levit played pretty well overall. Like, it looked like Kentucky couldn't cover them, but Kentucky's like defensive line. Like, they were getting home a decent bit and they were called in some chaos. Like, all right. Like, you know, maybe they can get levied to those some balls. They also had some huge special teams play. Like, look at their starting fuel position on these opening drives, right? Like, obviously, you started at the, um, I'm sorry, like, they had, they had the punt return, and then you had a pretty nice kickoff return that kind of kept them in it early. But like, LSU wasn't dominating them, like, line of scrimmage-wise with the run game. And then LSU's DeLine, like, they, like, you got a Kentucky's offensive line here for playing well. Also, I think Will Stein did a good job of like getting those guys outgapped and finding creases for a backstreet to hit. Like, he was, he was untouched in the second level on some of these runs or on what looked like misfits, which this is not like, hey, like, they didn't earn it. Like, the Kentucky clearly scheme some of these fits up, right? And like, they just kind of stayed in the fight, stayed in the fight, you know? And man, look, Kentucky's not bad, but I don't think they're good. And this is not one you can lose for real issue. Like, they're win so far this year, or what? A legitimately bad text saying M team and South Carolina, which I don't think is any good. So let me play well today, clearly. You can't be losing this one with a $50 million roster. Like, this is one you can't afford to lose that. I don't think they're getting in at nine and three. Yeah, I, I don't know. I'm kind of like, I, I don't know. I'm with you. I don't know if Kentucky's like really good, but they're definitely better than I thought they were going to be. And I'm enjoying watching them quite a bit. So I just, it's, I like the way that they play. I like the way Kenny Menchie plays. He's a little, you know, chaotic at times. But I think that they don't ask him to do a whole hell of a lot. And it kind of reminds me a lot of what Oregon's offense has looked like in previous years when they had boneics and Dylan Gabriel. And they were, they looked pretty efficient, if not incredible, all the time. Like, they don't have obviously the weapons that Oregon had. Well, Stein was there, but the offense is still mostly working. And I just love the aggressive nature that they have to wear, you know, you get to over time. You're down. You score last week. You're on the road. You go for two this week. You're at home And no, we're still going for two and we're trying to win these games and I just I love the vibe of bottom I don't know what the rest of their season is going to be, but I'm enjoying watching them You you should go if you score a second over time you should go for two. Yes, but so many coaches don't You're going to have to call your best two-point play if you score in the next over time if you got one You really like call it now Can he mention you on the keeper for the win, right? Yeah, I mean, well That's a LSU just handed it to him. They rushed four and just completely left the a gaps wide open It's like I don't know if that was designed or not, but he was like, oh, thank you. I'll take that Yeah, yeah LSU. I mean yes, I think it was probably one read and then go Like if they played if they played the bubble this way, maybe throw it if not like we're going the The Kentucky offensive line. I would say is probably where I'm starting to assign my Where did things go right in ways that I did not think they would go right? Yeah, that's yeah, I was pretty skeptical about their offensive line in the offseason and it's pretty good They've they have played because while we can criticize You know some of the performances Kentucky's played a lot of bodies Yeah, Kentucky's played a lot of like pro bodies and moved them Enough in the trenches for me to say you know what it's a good football team So Mitchy also operates the offense really well. Yeah, like I don't think he's like a high-spin guy or like a like a first-round picked-up guy Coaching yeah, yeah, like geez. What's going from Oregon man? Have you seen Kentucky's offense by God? It seems seems like there's what's going on here to to something you talked you mentioned earlier though, but like Clearly Kentucky spent money on mincey because they got him away from Nebraska And one of the reasons Nebraska is having this sudden improvement is because Nebraska's gotten serious about spending on its own roster So clearly he did not come cheap But you look you watch these two teams tonight and you think of what LSU has spent overall on its roster and you watch mincey versus Levit Did you notice any real noticeable difference as far as the quality of play from either one of them? I thought Levit through some real times today like I from a throwing perspective. I thought he was pretty good but No like like both high-dollar quarterbacks like both played well today Thing with Levit is like he gets the quarterback zoomies where he just loses his complete mind for like that jump throw fumble that he had it's like What possessed you in that moment to like I'm gonna jump. I'm just gonna do it I'm gonna jump and try to throw this ball. I don't I know there's nobody there, but what if there is just yeah, just Stupid stuff To my point about like how I thought Kentucky's D-Lime was was winning Levit was there their best Russia on the day. I mean 12 for 61 On design stuff and scrimbles. I Don't trust LSU's offense We'll see what happens with LSU the rest of the year. They have I think when are they getting trade-as back? I don't know but I was about to say not having trade as a lot. Yeah, I know that's just right now What we've seen these last couple of weeks since they started taking the injuries It's not a trustworthy group for me. They're talented, you know, but We'll see games ahead for the Tigers disappointing loss and obviously a hurt to their playoff hopes Coming up on the other side, we're re-ranking the top 25. We are recapping a wild Friday night and much much more from the week six slate and more next Back here on the cover 3 podcast and re-ranking the top 25 is sponsored all season long by Madelo college football season is Madelo season the fight songs the fanquakes the rivalry trophies are all better with an ice cold Madelo in your hand It's not just game day It's tradition and those who keep college football traditions alive deserve a Madelo Madelo is the official beer sponsor of the college football playoff Well as we hinted earlier yes with Texas's loss and with a winner coming out of the unbeaten on unbeaten Heavyweight bout in Tuscaloosa. There is a new number one team in the rankings. It is the Georgia Bulldogs We are projecting Notre Dame moves up from three to two Miami from four to three is the Hurricanes were off Guys, I I'm not going to put Texas behind Ohio State After that loss So you've got him what for yeah, I don't know what to do here, but that's my projection That is my projection for the way that the voters are ultimately going to handle this Given the fact that you've got a head-to-head result between one-loss teams within the top 10 so your preference is that Texas is number four Why why wouldn't you put Indiana ahead of both Texas and Ohio State at number four? They are undefeated because of the close call in Lincoln I think Indiana is probably closer to BYU in the eyes of some of these voters than they are so high beating an undefeated power for team on the road They don't get to go above Texas no-how state my projection is that no It's your preference sir. You're his story. It is a it is a projection It's been years since an AP voter admitted Off the record that they checked the top 25 before filling out their ballot because they were a beat rider who Maybe was covering a beat and no longer does for a head coach who held their locker room a little longer and gave really really long postgame speeches and you know Sometimes kept beat riders and the upstate for we hours until the morning cannot figure out what this coaches are Yeah, so I've If you wanted to knock Texas more for losing to an unranked team There and there will be like there's gonna be a nine right when we look at all the ballots There's gonna be some nines out there There's gonna be some numbers that are lower where you put them behind the likes of it even a BYU right I don't think they'll fall behind Texas tech though not with the win against Ohio State Maybe but I do think losing to an unranked Oklahoma could lead to some punitive responses In terms of big rises. I've got UCLA landing at 11 my thought here is that they kind of get tagged with that Texas tech Utah kind of profile, you know We're respecting what you've done, but maybe there's some hesitation before we're gonna throw you ahead of other teams that might have a loss As for the Oregon ducks man, I I think they're gonna fall all the way out is tough as I mentioned the two wins That they have on the resume the wins against USC the wins against Boise State which obviously do have some value But but two losses as well even if they are teams that are inside the current top 25 It'll get a little tough right there right on the edge of the rankings. If I Boise loses the Fresno night and looks like I mean They're only up to as we're you know head into the half pretty soon here Then for sure they're out because that win over Boise looks worse Um welcome to the ap top 25 we are projecting Wake Forest which has not been in the ap top 25 polls since October of 2022 the demon deacons Have three road wins against power conference teams Now one of them's Purdue Go for the wagon now Purdue's a wagon for the Minnesota. Yeah, crushed Minnesota. I tried to tell you guys last week You were trying to make fun of me for Illinois losing the Purdue. I told you they're just really good now Um very old. I'm just good coach man. Mm-hmm. Very good coach Wake Forest right there with the five and one record now three road wins against power conference teams I've also got Arizona up in here and I've talked about this before here in this segment, but I use a term over the years called sticker shock Which is an ap top 25 voter just kind of pulls up the scoreboard and it's just doing a quick scan And every now and then you're gonna be like whoa and just like take a second And that second can be the difference in a team getting or not getting a spot 23 or 22 or 24 on a ballot An Arizona put in 52 on the scoreboard in the early slate out in Morgantown I kind of think might be a whoa wait a second Because if you look at this Arizona Wildcats team this group is five and one They've had four straight double digit wins since a 28 17 loss to be why you in provo I'm not gonna make the argument to you bud that they are the 25th best team in the country But when you're looking at a lot of complex resumes and you were considering bumping in for example Wisconsin Northwestern right me there. This is the company that we're keeping when we're talking about filling out these last spots I'll say that the 50 burger out at West Virginia might be able to get them a little more attention But in any thoughts there on Brent Brennan's group Potentially crack getting back into the ap top 25. I have a hard time seeing it because I don't think many people watch that game today I didn't get any eyes on it Just with how many other good games are going on. So like you said with scoreboard thing possibly But also everybody seems to be hanging like 40 plus on the numbers. Yeah but look Fafita's playing really well, man. Like, he just keeps showing up, hitting open guys, getting up, doing it again. Like, they deserve some credit for sure, right? Northwestern, I could probably see, you know? - And by the way, you mentioned the Boise State Fresno. Like, I'm sitting here, we are doing this right now, but I have to do one more update to this, like, these rankings at the end of the night once we're done with our podcast. Boise State loses like that. How about Northwestern or Fresno? Who would you project to move in if another spot opens up? - I actually think Northwestern will be in over Arizona. They were ahead of them in the points last week and then Northwestern played, you know, in a spot like kind of game. - Whoa, against Ball State? - Against Ball State, you know? - Because blood had it as a lock? - Yeah, so like, no. But I just think that with Northwestern, it's a similar thing where I don't know if anybody really watched it, but everybody who had Northwestern ahead of their ballots last week probably still gonna have them ahead of their Arizona, even when they bump them both up a little bit. - That's kind of my thought too. - 48 unranked votes for Northwestern last week, but Northwestern, buoyed by 117th, Tom's best friend, confident, confident Ralph Russo, had him at 24, you know, so it was a lot of the 23, 24, but they've got that one outlier. I do think a good portion of those 48 are gonna be flipping to either 24 or 25 spot. Would you put Northwestern ahead of LSU? - Yeah, LSU's lost twice. And then what's LSU's best win right now? - Clemson. - Yeah. - Oh boy, right. I made the description for LSU, which as you saw in the graphic, is currently setting you there at 25, very much willy, like could be cut on our final edit, that it's voters just hanging on to overall team talent. Maybe in a way that they shouldn't, but at least in a way that could keep them inside the top 25. - So, I'm wondering if sometimes the dollars don't equate to talent, maybe the way you think. - Is anybody having more fun right now than Chip Kelly? - No, like there's running a wild stuff, man. It's fun. He's living the dream. He doesn't have to answer questions or be in charge of anything. He just gets to call plays and design stuff up and put together entire new offenses between games. And no FOIA. - No FOIA. He's at a private school. - Is Fresno an elevation? - No, right. - Boy, he's trying a 50 yard vehicle here. - I don't think they're like, I don't think they're sea level, but I don't think they're like mountain mountain. - It's good, 25, 20 to half. - That was a good game. - Good game. - Good kick, yeah. - Good game. And that was the re-ranking the top 25 sponsored by Modelo while the rankings may change week to week. Modelo will always be at the top of our list as the perfect companion for a college football Saturday. Remember, college football season is Modelo season. - Fresno is 308 feet above sea level. - Yeah, I just, when I looked at this, I misread the yard line. I was like, are they trying a like a 56 yard vehicle? Okay, but it was 50 and he's still marching. It was great. - No FOIA is weird. They got valleys and mountains and weird stuff. Just a weird state. - Yeah, now that we're done with the sponsored part of the segment, I'll get a little personal. My sincere thanks to anybody who applies like the smallest amount of patience to understand the whole projection preference thing that Tom points out as a joke. - I'm really excited. - I'm joking. - I know, I got to think. - You can pretend it's a projection, but who's writing the story? Who's putting their own personal opinion onto what is going to happen? That is your preference, sir. - I don't know, man, I think I'm on chip side here on this. - Yeah, don't fall for his BS. - If the informative-- - His aw, shucks. Me, don't fall for that crap. - If the inputs are last week's voting results to inform the biases, then I am reacting with the new information. Do I need to publish my CBS Sports 138 Top 50? - Yes. - Okay. - We'll do it on Monday. Y'all can-- - I wanna see all 138. - I don't do all 138, I do 50. - Wow. - Yes, you ain't dedicated to the game. - I am not to. I'm dedicated to a lot of games. In fact, I'm dedicated to about 26 games on a Saturday, you know? I've got about 26 games, you know? I can kinda keep my arms around 26 games on a Saturday. 24, 27, somewhere in that range. But yeah, trying to have that last update for team number 127, you know? It's just, didn't make the cut. That's me, gotta get better. All right, let's rip through some other notables from around the country. One team you did not hear in the AP Top 25 poll was the Pittsburgh Panthers. That's because they were not able to hold off the inevitability. That is the jug or not. That is the University of North Carolina, Tar Heels. - You fired up? - Yeah, I, yeah, I'm, I would say. - I'm coming. - Yeah, the things that were, the things that were exciting and encouraging is the normalcy of it. It is a, we have discussed often here on this podcast, my assessment that it's a group that is a little bit limited with enough good players. And when it's like, okay, so here's what we're gonna do. Bobby Petrino is just gonna scheme up one of our fastest players on a slant. And if they give us this look and Billy, I swear if you can just deliver this ball on time, I swear it's gonna be a 75-yard touchdown. Billy, if you can make this one throw, we're gonna get one of the two touchdowns we need in this game. And he did it, and he did it. Jordan Shit, right? You know, like it would be just a few players. It's just like, yes, like they were able to go out there and they were able to get the job done. Petr just so, so far without Mason Heinzschel from what, like the team that they could be some back-breaking mistakes for the Panthers as well. I mean, the true unstoppable force and movable object from a pit team that wanted so badly to lose in a North Carolina team that was simply refusing to win. I don't know how much, how many eyes y'all got on this one, but first ranked win for Bill Belichick, something that, you know, Jordan Shit gave him a game ball in the locker room. He seemed way more excited about them, just like gutting out a gritty win. And do you know what he said to him? He said he was like, and you know what, we're gonna have a lot more of those. Like that, that was some truth from Coach B. And he was like, look boys, this is how we have to play football with the roster that we have. We have to find ways to win these close, low scoring slabber knockers. And so now they're able to get on the right side of it. So here we go, Tar Heels, three and two, heading into rivalry week against Duke. - Shout out to your Tar Heels. Let's get to the other side of this. The ACC being classic ACC this year. - Oh, so many student results. - I mean, like, you know, losing Heinzschel, you can forgive him because we talked about that last week, but you've got 4-0 Duke losing the one and three Georgia Tech. You've got four and one Virginia Tech going on the road and losing to a Cal team without its starting quarterback. Like thank God, Wake Forest was at least able to do the job. But like, you look at all the teams that are like the contenders for the ACC championship, the contenders to be possible at large bids. And they all just like throw up on themselves. It was so easy to see coming. I think Chip, how many of those money lines did you have? - I know you had Georgia Tech. - I had Georgia Tech in Kentucky. - Yeah. - Sure, yeah. I mean, you know what's really frustrating? - Good, Chip. - Duke, just, just play bad. - Yeah. - I never got hurt too. He came back in later, but he did miss a decent chunk of the game. And he is their team. - But he's still, you know, like, Duke's defense probably let him down. They should not have let Georgia Tech be able to move the ball the way that they did. That's gotta be the one that I think a Duke fan is probably the most furious about. - Is the ACC down to three teams? - Miami Wakin, who? - That's him, you. - That's him, you? - Oh, yeah. - I mean, pretty much. - Yes. Unless you really think Clemson's able to get up on that. - Like mathematically, there's some teams that are still alive to make it, like, UVA has a really easy schedule. If we get absolute frickin' chaos, them or Clemson could still make it, I guess, but. - Chaos would never hit the ACC. - Right. - I mean, like Louisville's like, what, 14, 15 to 1 to even make the championship game at this point? Miami's minus 7,000. to make sure it. Well, I mean, yeah, because Miami, Miami has turned this into a, it's not even like a Florida state in the ACC back of the day. It's like Miami and the Big East. Yeah. You know, everybody else looks like old Big East football teams with Miami just playing a different sport than the rest of the conference. And sure, there's some Friday night shenanigans that can be a lot of fun. Boy, let me tell you about this Louisville Florida state game, which can entertain you on a Friday night, right? But neither of those teams are serious competitors for, you know, anything on the big time national scale. And that's kind of kind of where they're at right now. We can find our own peculiar, you know, interesting storylines and fun games and really awesome players. But if you're talking about who's going to be a part of this, the big conversations for the best teams in the country, then yeah, it's Miami. And then some power conference teams that wake it as a new game is going to be pretty important. It's massive. Yeah. It's absolutely massive. Big game breakdown when it happens. Well, it means a ranked on ranked. That's right. We got to have college football playoff implications. And it's awake. You know, it's going to do numbers. You know, you know the digs will be on it is wake the second best team. They might be. So I'm not going to say that a power rating would ever declare this, but in performance, like what this see the screams for Nelly ratings to me that it would be like the for Nelly rating surprise is that outside of Miami, which did like some mash a lot of teams. I would bet that wake 13 point defeat to Miami on the record as they're only lost. I would bet that wake grades out as being maybe comparable to where SMU's at I can almost guarantee you wake will be the second highest ranked ACC team in the friendly ratings. They were 18th nationally going into the week in the three ACC teams that were ahead of them were pit duke in Miami. Like they've done a really good job. I do think they caught NC State at like a bad time for NC State with some of the injury stuff. You know, I don't know. The offensive line was doing great. Yeah, for about 20 minutes, and then they did they scored a second half. No, they did not. They just weather. Bro, the even like at every single game this year, Dave Doran's made it worse. Are you all dialed into this? No. Okay. So after the app State game, where remember they like blew the lead but held on for the win. He had this like real cheeky like. Oh, by the way, guys, we won that game as like a sign off to his press conference. And then after the winning against Louisville, he's walking off and he's talking to Wolfpack radio network. And he goes, a lot of people around here talking about how shitty this team is. I just want to say that, you know, we're, you know, we're, we're, we're buying in. We're bouncing back. And then, you know, after the Vanderbilt stuff, he kind of put a lot on CJ Bailey's plate. Not that CJ Bailey didn't deserve it, but he was a head coach's decision to do that. And then in this post game press conference after the loss, hey, coach, you've been outscored in the second half by this much, you know, what is your response to that? Is it, is it a matter of adjustments? He said, no, it's not a matter of adjustments. It's a matter of execution. And I was like, okay, things are great. Like you were talking about like I think they caught him at a bad time with the injuries. I think you could have just said they caught him at a bad time. Things just seem funky. It's just not vibes are not great right now. Um, not great in college station either. A lot, I, very, very similar. I just, I can't, I, as, as somebody who's little like piano tuner, like, that moves with the vibes, it is, I do not want any part of what's happening in college station. I know exactly what Elco is trying to say though. Right? Like the people who live on Twitter represent a very very small percentage of our fan base. Clearly all the fan bases mad. Most people are not like letting it ruin their week, you know, and then spend like hours and hours and hours online, which we love y'all by the way, because you're our audience. It's like we, we, we, we speak to y'all. But hey, I, yes, we, we have a very, very, uh, what, what's the term that, the nerdy term in marketing big tent? Yes. We have a, we have a very big tent and a low barrier for entry to all you need for the cover three podcasts is literally to like college football. If you love it, you'll stick around for all two hours of our instant reaction show. If you like it, you might watch a little bit. Also, I will extend an invitation to Billy Sesspool. If, if you guys all want to come and get my, in the, subscribe, yeah, subscribe, hit the like button, you know, just let, let Elco have it. All right. So let's give some context, context for those who might not be aware, uh, Mike Elco steps to the podium after Texas A&M's defeat. And he makes a reference to social media. And I'm going to let Billy Sesspool, which is a reference to Billy Lucey. Uh, I believe operator, uh, Debud helped me with the team side operator, publisher or operator like, uh, big wig of a tech sex. Yeah. Yeah. The, the, the man, the man who is moving the techsags community, right? And that's, uh, that's not great to be having the internal battles with your own fan base. In the middle of the season, when you're trying to rally and quarterback is playing awful, I mean, awful. Yeah, bad, bad. I would, well, first of all, I, I would agree. I don't think you should call out techsags considering as many people pointed out. I don't know if Elco is the head coach at Texas A&M, if not for the people at techsags after when they tried to hire hard students. But I would just say, Mike, some day to consider maybe you should create a techsags account under a burner name and go on there and let out all your frustration with Marcel Reed on the internet. Just get it out. Anything you want to say to him that you want, what I want to say to his face is you're watching him spike footballs five yards at a time. Just go on to techsags and just be like, talk about how badly he sucks. It'll help you cope and get through it and get ready for next week. It was a 27 to 6 game where I struggled to find a lot nice to say about Missouri. Jamal Roberts ran for 138 yards. It might have been Austin Simmons least sharp game. It wasn't his best game. No. I mean, A&M's defense played really, really well. I mean, five of their first six drives defensively. 18 negative 6, 2, 7, 7, 6, 2, right. And then 28 and a punt. So like, like really for quite a long time, the defense fought. But when your offense is doing 23.8 interception, five, if you'll go nine pun, negative four pun, zero, because interception, three, seven, negative 10, three, all puns, 45. Let's go boys for a fugal. And then 37 downs. Eventually, the damn just broke. And then it makes sense that like Missouri would have a come down game. They played exceptionally well against UF. And like, Missouri's defense played well too clearly. But like A&M's offense is a disaster that they like in the like the competition of who's going to be one and done as a coordinator, Oregon. Think you have to. Cal was like half and done, right? Because like the you didn't last whole season. We called for that one. A&M probably going to make a move there, I would think. And I have no insider info. He's I don't think like politically could you run that offensive staff back. There's no way. You know what my nickname for Marcel Reed is. What? Marcelo literate. I don't wait. Hold on. Oh, because you can't read. It's a thinker. Yeah. Oh, rats. Oh rats. Thank you. Thank you very much. Got it. Staying in the state of Texas, I impressive road test pass for the Houston Tougers. Yes. Big one. They needed like there. I think there's what six teams realistically live to win the big 12. And had they lost this, I think they were in trouble. Are you ready to bail on Kansas state optimism? Yes. I bailed on them when they lost the offensive lineman right before the season. I hung on because I had the win total. But I'm I don't really hang on. Yeah. Like the shock you go state Houston, Texas tech, BYU Utah or Baylor won the one the big 12 at this point. At this point, give me that list one more time. All right. So the big three tech, Utah, BYU, Oklahoma state, Houston Baylor. I mean, Baylor or Oklahoma state might surprise me compared to those other two to win the conference. Yeah. I think they should be longer odds. They probably are. You know, if I had to guess, just because like the top three have very easy schedules, we think. but I think they all could, like on a neutral, I'm not laying a touchdown with any of those teams against any of the others I just mentioned. - Oklahoma State is funny. Mastermaker had a big productive day again, but that was kind of a fight for a little bit. - Yeah. - They've got a fun habit of like finding where, where, there, there, there, there, there, hit it, hit it, hit it. Like it's, they kind of kind of poke around, figure out what's gonna work, and then when they do, then you're just in trouble at that. - UCFD is pretty good. - Right. - Like they're playing well under Alex Grinch. - Yep. - How many times if you've heard that? - Yeah, right. - Well, they still have Keon Jenkins as the QB because Barnett's still out. - What's at this point? - Keon, the FIU electric factory. - When you, when you had, when you were limited in spring and when every single, when every single, you're supposed to be a quarterback, Alonza Barnett, that we can utilize your running, right? If there's a lot of re-aggravation, my assessment of you as a team has to assume now, the potentially that we're gonna get, the potential that we're gonna get Jenkins at any moment. It great, you know, another game, Roku and Mustaches able to pull away, but also another game where Oklahoma State's defense can be had, which might be one reason why I had them a little bit off. Note here, from Houston's win at Kansas State, Patrick Overmire, who's from UTSA, the big tight end. Does that sound right? Okay, four touchdown receptions in this game. Damn, season eight catches, season high for yards. Obviously four touchdowns is gonna be your season high for, especially for a tight end here. Yeah, they found something that they liked and that that was where they got a lot of work done. Also, that backfield continues to be a little bit of a committee approach. Makai Hughes, the name that you're gonna be remembering, but a couple of different players are in there all getting about a handful or so carries as the Cougars were able to move the ball on the ground. I just don't know if Kansas State defensively or in the trenches is quite there yet to be able to really make a run at the conference title. I'm fairly certain they're not. There you go. All right, but Mike Revelle Cust, you didn't cuss a lot. He did, yeah. What's the latest sense? Because the knolls were back until Tom texted and then they were not so. Take us, take us through the roll back the time. Take us through the roller coaster of the Friday match. When they got up, I was like, I got a turn this on, you know? And 'cause I was planning on getting some stuff done. We had a lot of good night games, like later night game. 'Cause I watched kick off, like nine o'clock, yeah. It's like, all right, and I was like, okay, you know, good opening script, Louisville's misaligned here a little bit, a little bit undisciplined defensively. Like we've never heard that for this year. And then, you know, like we've seen this team just like collapse, pretty hard, repeatedly. And I just continue to think that when over Virginia was all about UVA being bad, you know? And Pabula, like not looking good at all. And still probably like not being right after that hit against West Virginia. And that win against UVA reminded me a lot of the win last year against Wake, you know? Like they killed Wake last year, kind of out of nowhere. Except, you know, Wake was an improved team, but they were also really like, they were running good. They were very lucky, I think, to have the record that they did. Robbie asked for an era, I believe, for them. Yeah, yeah. So I was like, okay, like, and then Louisville just kind of found a gear and if she's just not good, right? Like they, I think they were pretty like trying to mess us to you, like be their actions. Hey, we had all this time to hire it. If you knew you're going to keep in our valley, you had months and months to hire a new GM if you wanted to and have a real plan going into the portal. And like if you want it, like more evidence that they don't care about this season, they got Ashton Daniels to be their quarterback. Like that's embarrassing. He shouldn't be at Florida State. You know, I'm not trying to like, like, it's not his fault. They gave the money. You're not going to turn down the money. Like they went and signed Janela Anderson with the intent of starting him on the edge. He was like a backup at A&M and he's not good. Like, again, not his fault. He's going to take the bag, you know, but they didn't have a real plan for the portal. And so I think they're just not a good team. I don't know if they're going to, I don't know when they're going to fire him, assuming they do, but I, maybe I shouldn't. You probably make them like wear the Miami loss, you know. One way Mario, if you look at Miami's home games, the visitor list that Miami has this year, they only really have one good home game, you know, that's good national TV and all the recruits are going to be at it's this one. So you got to figure if he can, Mario will try to twist the knife a little bit here in front of the recruits. So you make them wear that and then maybe, maybe you move on that. Do you? Yeah, truthfully, I mean, we're 97 minutes in. I feel they had Danny on the college football pregame show, because obviously this was last night. And always at some point, the eight block beat block, you're going to go over all the Friday night results. It was like, Danny, I so shot. Talk Mike Norvel, you know, I mean, I just feel like, but Danny, you're going to get thrown into a lot of ISO shots, where they got, they got away in the rest of the way. So, you know, you'll, you'll have your opportunity here. But this, did you sense an effort or a check out or a quit factor in that second half from the nose? Yeah, but it wasn't new. Like we, we've seen that from Mike Norvel's team for years now. And which makes it even more depressing. Yeah, that's familiar, right? Like they hit a 98 yard run and the guys are all right, cool. It's a wrap. Like, yeah, you know, there's still up 14 nothing on the scoreboard, but not in their hearts. Yeah. Man, tough scenes. Uh, did Shane Beamer save his job with the win against Florida? I don't think he was on the hot seat. Mu, it's time you to, oh, I don't have a Tom mute animation. No, I was just pantomiming. No, Shane Beamer's on the hot seat. I, I think he's, I don't think, I don't think winning saved his job. No, I think that he's going to get fired at some point here. I just think that you kind of calm the water. So a little bit for now by going on the road and beating Florida. But that game, I talked about it on HQ. I did the post game for that felt more to me like Florida than it did South Carolina because we saw it when they played Mizzou, Mizzou's defense took away the run game. And now you have the formula for Florida. If you can stop the run, they're not going to beat you. Their offense isn't nearly as powerful. South Carolina gets dealing Stewart back. They stopped the run. Jane bought 59 yards and 15 carries. He had the touchdown. But that a lot of that came in the fourth quarter, really when the game was over. The only average 3.2 yards per carry. Aaron Filo had a terrible interception in the game. He was 21 to 28 overall, but he wasn't as good as his numbers looked. And the offense and I scored 19 points and their defense is just bad. I will say sellers has looked much better two weeks in a row. It was a losing effort against Kentucky. But like he's not the reason they lost the UK. I thought he looked good though. Like he looked quick. He was newer to go with the ball. Maybe some of the two F's defense obviously. But like I do think he looked pretty good. The reason I question and beamers on the hot seat is is the money factor. Like just trying to read some of the tea leaves there. Read some of the reporting. Obviously like Brad is pretty tied in at that CBS like he's like, I don't know, man. Like the money's a big deal. But is the money situation going to improve if you bring him back? Like he's been there for what? This is his sixth season. So so be like they're they're pacing for. Like another another losing season in the SEC. Maybe they get to a bowl game again. But like I don't know if you can bring him back for a seventh year and get people fired up to give money. I think that they are. I think that there are important people that are fundamentally rooting for his success and that in a lot of hot seat situations. That's not the case that you of course I would like for the school that employs me to win football games, see like as a surface level. But really you understand what needs to happen. I think athletic director, university president, I think they would very much prefer to not have to make this move right now at this time. I had to take ready. If South Carolina and Oklahoma had lost, which is like I do wonder if this the season that you know, you can still pay these guys very highly on a per year basis. But maybe not like the length of the guarantees, like the amount of guaranteed money. Is this going to be the season that breaks the dam on some of the athletic directors just getting taken advantage of it by the agents in these contract situations? I don't know. But obviously, oh, you won and Nebraska, you know, showed well. South Carolina. Sorry. Yeah. Well, but Nebraska also like Matt rules extension in the off season. Oh, right, right, right. I got you. So South Carolina keeps it moving. What else from sort of across the landscape? What else does it say? It's sort of buzzing for you that we haven't got a chance to talk to. Uh, I'd like to talk Illinois to get to an overall larger talking point. And we talked, we touched on it a little bit too in the, uh, the Alabama Georgia game. But Illinois beat Michigan State. Happy. Never doubt. Never doubt. Better than losing. There's never a doubt. Uh, kind of a peric victory in that Kate Nazar seemed to have, like, broken his wrist. So he's going to be out for a little while. But Michigan State, I don't know. I don't know if it would have changed the outcome of the game, but they got screwed by a bad call after they, uh, they closed it to a 31, 24, they kicked an onside kick with like eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and they recovered it. They got calls for offside. They were not offside or anywhere close to offside. And you know, they couldn't review it. They went through a whole weird kind of review process, but it was just a terrible call. And then we go back to the Oregon UCLA game. There was the two point conversion in which Oregon was supposed to have the ball at the half yard line and they gave it to him at the one and a half yard line. They completely blew that call. You go to Western, Western Michigan, Michigan, the refs messed up there last week, the big 10 admitted to the screw up in the Nebraska Maryland game, which thankfully didn't impact the outcome of the game, but it was another terrible and it was, by the way, it was the same crew, mostly that had worked the Michigan Western Michigan game. Big 10 has a serious officiating problem this year and it's not like it's not the complaining about officials calling pass interference as their holds are those kind of objective calls. There's like a clear misunderstanding of rules and a clear inability to officiate the game accurately and it is impacting it because if Michigan state does get that onside kick, they might tie the game then. It might never get to overtime. They might win in regulation. And I know coaches aren't really going to want to go on the record in press conferences because of the fines that come with it, but I'll do it for them. Big 10 officiating is dog crap this year. It has been horrible. It was bad last year and it is continuing this year and when you have as much money tied up into this enterprise as you currently do, you need to figure out a way to get that fixed. Maybe 24 teams in the playoff will fix it. Who knows? No, it won't play out. Oregon state continues to just absolutely light up. Yes. Are we sure, like how sure are we that boys use the best team in that league? I'm not. I mean, it's 25 to 20 at the start of the second half in Fresno and if we're talking about overall quality, you can't. I can't sit here and confidently say Oregon state won't put up a 50 burger on Boise. 81. Just a really, really impressive showing once again, Atkinson, Legrees, just a really, really fun story. Top to bottom. Let's see. Lots more. What else do we have here on the get my notepad? You know, V big one is big, big, easy to see coming for me. Really? I mean, I did pick the money line. Yeah. Yeah. North Dakota state hadn't played anybody all year. That's fair. One of the easiest schedules and you know, V was a much better team going into this game the last few weeks, and they were early in the season. Their injuries had me hesitant them being banged, I mean, it's, it, hey, we're not missing any wide receivers. Well, Dan won't let us pass. So it doesn't matter if we're missing all of our wide receivers. So yeah, I can see why there's a, you know, a little bit of a counter to that. You know, Spencer and the chat is asking, but if BYU is still the Hawkeyes of the mountains, and I'm going to answer four, but no, because Iowa can score 40 points. Right. Yeah. Exactly. [laughs] Dog. Who? Is there a coach out there who wants to send to the end of the season more than Jedfish right now? Yeah. And what's kind of interesting and a thought I had, I can't remember the kid's name. Who's their backup quarterback who came in? I forgot to say, Dylan urged something, oh God, I'm sorry, kid. I cannot remember your name. It's not Dylan Morris, is it? No, no, no, no, no, that's what I was thinking. I know. Elijah Brown. Oh, from Stanford. Yeah. And I was having, I was having kind of a weird kind of deja vu situation. First of all, Jeremy Aklinski starts for Iowa. I don't think Hank Brown's getting the job back. I don't know if Hank Brown should get the job back, because if Aklinski's going to play the way he did in that game, and then the run game was phenomenal for the first time against a real opponent all year. Iowa looked tremendous. I was very concerned about them coming off of an Ohio State game where you're getting kind of some body blows having to go on the road, short week to play Washington in that stadium. Man, they took that game over. Quick, snuffed it out and just completely dominated, shout out Hawkeyes. But the other thought I had as I was watching that game is demand Williams looked like crap as he has a lot this again. Elijah Brown comes in. Elijah Brown looked pretty good. And then I'm sitting there thinking, I remember a few years ago, jet fish at Arizona kept ascending Jaden Delora out there, despite having Noah Fafita on the bench. And then he finally went to Fafita and things turned around. I don't know why he's so stubborn, I guess, with some of his starting quarterback. Well, I know why this time. But I think that maybe we've got a similar situation here. Maybe Elijah Brown is your starter going forward and Washington starts looking a whole hell of a lot more competent and offensive, or maybe it was just a one game performance who knows. But I don't know how you can stick with the mind at this point, because he has shown nothing this year that has made him worthy of holding on to the starting job other than the paycheck he's caching. Yeah, and I don't think it's like one of those, hey, we don't want to put the backup in because the backup has contract incentives, if he plays a lot of snaps type thing, because you need wins. Wash to a gladly pay for better quarterback play right now. Can they? Can they pay? Yeah. I mean, it can't be that much money. You know, you were talking about the contract incentives, and I was thinking, well, where else is the money going with this roster? They have some good young pieces that they invested in that will be, you know, not yet, though. I mean, they couldn't run the ball. I mean, that's the thing. Like, there's nothing they do on offense that is scaring the offenses right now. Nothing. They're very easy to defend. Tough. All right. Let's see. We got state wake, Florida, Houston, oh, oh, Cawon Lacey's back. That's good. I didn't see a single play from that game. I saw the score after like this, like in the middle of second quarter, and I was like, all right. No need to go there. I thought Curtis was okay. Hmm. Thank you for closing the loop on that. Yeah. I didn't have a, didn't have a grade on that this, like Tom mentioned. And you, you look up, it's kind of rainy, weird day, and then all of a sudden blitz game over. You know. Yeah. And Chambers was not affected by the rain. I, I, I, I, I saw him throw a couple strikes early as okay. Like, they came to play because they were coming, they were off of buy, right? Right. That's what I was saying. Yeah. They came out of an off week. They came kind of out of the corner of the conversation. You know, for the tomorrow's top 25 purposes, I was like, is this really a top 10 team? You know, just, Hater here, you know, just ready to, ready to take them down a peg. It's kind of hard to take them down a peg and go out there and just dot them up 52 to 17. So, um, they get Missouri next week. They get Missouri and they get Texas, but we get after that. So they'll have their, uh, strengthen by the fire moment. Notre Dame, Jonas Walton had touchdown runs of 97 and 40 yards. Yeah. 14 different players received a target. Mm-hmm. Hey, shout out Noah Grubs. Like Mary Kid up the road come in, look, look pretty solid. Um, until next week, because Notre Dame will finally be in a game I might have to watch. If you want a really, really good high school game, highlights to watch, the state championship of them against Viro was, was a movie, like just to hide, you don't need to watch whole game, but like go, go find a highlights on YouTube or max preps or that it was awesome. Have you seen Jonas Walton's mustache? No, no, describe it. You know how Miles Garrett, I would say, is probably like somebody who's, who sort of brought the, like, you could be in a cop movie from, you know, the 1980s kind of, kind of look to it. You know, he's, he's looking at it right now, he's a true freshman who could tell me he's 38. Yeah. A lot of the folks in the chat are like, it was Stanford. We know it was Stanford, but that's kind of what we have to evaluate Notre Dame right now. And so like, we know what elite teams look like when they face these tomato cans, right? Right. And they kill them. So like, Notre Dame's continued to check a box, like they can't check the, hey, how do you play against good athletes box because they're not playing them yet. But they are, like, dispatching these bad teams quickly. And that is one thing a good team does, a really good team. And one of the things I wrote. is that when you've got explosiveness in the run game, which is something that has been emerging with a true freshman breakout star, guess what? It was a question before the season. And it feels like less of a question now, thanks to the performances in games like these, this. So yeah, they go up to Provo, now with a little bit more confidence and what they're gonna be able to do if they can, Mike Denbrock is a good-ass coach. - Yeah. - He is gonna be trying to find ways to get BYU's defense off a line rent to be able to spring Walton, because now they know that they've got somebody that can go and make a defense pay in a big way. So it was a good day, even in a 51 point win. I feel like there was a couple concrete takeaways for the Irish. - Jonas Walton definitely looks like somebody who said he's getting too old for their shit multiple times. - They, yes, yes. I don't, I'm so disconnected from style or trends or anything like that, but I'm just gonna say, I'm a fan of him, you know? - Fan of, a fan of true freshman Jonas Walton getting too old for this shit. - Jonas Walton's got a mortgage three children. And he's just trying to get through this one last case so he can retire and buy that boat and go sailing around the world with the wife. Who's on the other side of the, who's on the other side of the buddy comedy? I mean, it'd be easy to say C.J. Carr, right? But. - C.J. Carr is the hip new cop. - There might be a funnier answer that we can dig into. We'll be able to. - It's not Marcus Freeman, is it? - Marcus Freeman chasing his. - It looks older than Marcus Freeman. - Yeah, right. - There we go. Now we've uncovered it. It's Jonas Walton embracing old age while Marcus Freeman chasing his youth. - I guess. - Hairlines and moustaches, so it'll cover three podcasts. (laughing) - Oh man. App lost to ODU, congrats to the monarchs for covering his spread. It wasn't horrific conditions, but wins or wins or wins and Ricky Ronnie's doing mudslides out in boon. So that was a victory for them. We mentioned Virginia Tech's loss at Cal. Brusso, excuse me. - Brusso. - For JKS and the Hokies for a sloppy team. - Yeah. - Yep. - You're not tight. I am. I've got the joy of pondering who won the breakup between Penn State and James Franklin. After they've both been losing. What a happy, sun, shiny week of writing. This will be for me. - Can't wait. Buffalo did beat Toledo, right? - Oh, baby. Tom, what'd you call that? - Oh, I was a touching tribute to Jason Candle. - Bro. That's crazy. Buffalo's kind of bad. - I know. - I know. - Yeah. - You can take the candle. - You could take the, yeah. You could take the coach out of Mercer, but you can't take the to Candle out of Toledo. - Oh, I don't know. - We also got a poor one out officially for our UMass features. - I mean, they already, but they already cashed at the two and a half. Are you saying where you are? - No, saying like the 100 to one type stuff out there for them to win the Mac. - Yeah, unfortunately no selection committee for the Mac title game. So you're not having pop lots in the lineup for today. It doesn't end up getting an asterisk along the way. - OTT Buck, you could call it a Jason Candle in the wind. - It is a touching tribute. - And you lost up Buffalo like a Candle in the wind. - Memphis B-U-A-B, anyone wanna know why? That was on-- - The scoreboard points. - No, it's the Battle of the Bones. - Oh, okay. - We are celebrating ribs with the rivalry trophy between Memphis and UAB, the Battle of the Bones. - Ooh, okay. I mean, this has Memphis in May, right? Which is a pretty big barbecue competition. But, you know, Alabama does have Archbold. - I like Barbara. I will go if they want to have a competition. Invite the cover three podcasts. We will go-- - We should get a mission. - A team from your barbecue fest. - I feel like Chris Gentry, who's like one big time competitions is a big fan of the show. - Chris. - Shout Chris, like, what if we just like-- - What up, bro? - We're the beer-drinking part of the barbecue team. Good live stream. - I will test all your food, just, you know, run it by me. I'll let you know. - Green light go. No, no, zero. Zero dietary restrictions. - No. - And if I have them, screw it, we'll-- - Yeah, whatever. Power through crew. - Power through, we'll take one for the team. - Do you guys dry rub or are you more sauceed? Like, have we ever gotten chips sauce-takes? Like, Carolina has different regionality to their barbecue. - Correct. - Are you more vinegar? - Yeah, so I mean, as a matter of personal preference, I prefer Eastern North Carolina barbecue, which is the vinegar-based as opposed to Western North Carolina barbecue, which is more of the tomato-based. If I go to Lexington, North Carolina, I'm not gonna act like a snob or an asshole, 'cause it's still a really, really good barbecue. - Yeah, that's what they do. So, yeah, when in Rome kind of attitudes at that point. - I'm kind of the same way. You guys can argue about who's is better, and I'll just sit there and eat all of it. I don't know. - Yeah, sure. That's all awesome. Did George McIntyre bring great visions of the future for what Tennessee's offense is gonna be, or is this still just gonna be an offense that holds it together as best as it can? - I don't have the stats on this. I, that game, you know what you have the quad box is going, and then one game ends, another game, like they slotted under the feed, you know, and it's like, okay, I'll watch a couple minutes of this before I, like, find a remote to change that one. - The run game was physical. At least given that. Like, they ran the ball hard. That's kind of my only really common about Tennessee. - My primary comment about this game is that I had no anticipation that I would need to watch it, and then I saw the score in the third quarter, and I said, I should probably just put this on the quad box and monitor it, but I can't say I paid super close attention to it, but I mean, listen, sure, it's a close game, but there are no weeks off in the SEC, okay? Not even when you're playing Arkansas. Team it lost by 1,000 to Utah. - Yeah, they're just not getting difference-making play at the quarterback position, you know? - Yeah, and we knew it in preseason. - I didn't. We were throwing phase on Brandon in graphics on CBS. - Oh, no, I'm out. - So he's talking KJ. - Oh, I'm talking Tennessee. - Oh, right, yeah. - I thought you were talking about, like, like, just showing Bishop and the defense is kind of-- - No, I did not know Brandon was gonna, was gonna, like, look good and then struggle. - Right, who's the, what's the-- - Mo, the offensive, I mean, that they lost-- - Yeah. - I think that's been a pretty big blow for them. - The kid that he's talking, you mean? - No, no, the kid that got injured a couple weeks ago. - Oh, you're very right, yeah, yeah. - Yeah. Couldn't get it done on third down. Couldn't extend anything. Bishop carrying the load and helping them avoid the loss. They are five and one. - Hooray! - They're right. - Yeah, you tell, tell a Tennessee fan, hey, you're five and one after six games, only losses to Texas by one score. All of those facts sound great. But I don't know if the quality of the play is there to inspire the same kind of confidence, but still all ahead of you. Anything else before we get out of here? - We just hit two hours. - We did it. - We did it. - And subscribe. We hit 73, let's get to 75. - Yeah. - 75,000. Subscribe on YouTube. It's free. - For now. - So wait, do we keep updating the number? Is it a ticker, like a charity, like a call-a-thon? And if you call right now. - We're not going up here until we get to 74,000. How I am, they're not. - We've got volunteers back in the call bank. I've got eight VHS double-decker tapes. I'm ready to give out for free to the next people that are willing to donate. - Coming up next, Ken Burns is Civil War. - That's right. PBS, you know. As Parker was asking, she was like, oh, I found this awesome. I was at my, you know, my parents' mountain house and I was watching PBS. I saw this awesome documentary. I said, babe, I'm sorry. But if you want to get that, you're going to have to donate $99 to PBS and get an 8-pack DVD for it. - And a tote bag. - And a tote. - Somebody sent PR autographs just cash to throw up the tote bag. - Have you shown the boys Ken Burns baseball? - Yes. - Oh, no. - It's kind of cool because like, anytime you show you on kid, like black and white, you know, footage, right? - Oh my God. - Right? - Yes. Just tell them that's how the world was, color itself did not exist until like 1965, right?
