I know a lot of you guys, statistically, most of you guys watch the games on Saturday on a TV, multiple TVs at your house. But I gotta tell you, there's nothing like college camp on, plural of campus. Blacksburg, Friday night, Starkville, Saturday morning, just off the charts, amazing. The outcomes for both fan bases, not what they wanted, and yet we add an insanely good time. Appreciate you guys, we're jam packed, we're high top. Jesse, I gotta call it an anxious downtown Nashville, Tennessee on this Sunday night, October 4th, the year of our Lord 2026. Partially anxious because some guys are on the hot seat, some fan bases don't know what to make of themselves right now, and partly anxious because you can't help, but lick the old index finger, and turn the page and just peek at what's coming up this week. Because what's coming up this week is one of the most loaded college football slates of the year. We'll dive into that in due time, but in the meantime, tons of week five reaction, we got the AP pull out. It is a rare show, it's a rare moment in the paid state annals, not annals of history, where you are madder at the AP pull than I am. You at home, I have judged by the comments, you're madder than I am, not that I'm happy with it. But I don't think it's the worst one they've had all year, and some of you do. Regrettably, we do have names on the hot seat, we do have movement, our buddy, Peter Neko, street name Pete, has put out an article earlier today. I'll echo some of it, I'll add to some of it as best I can. All that, plus we got a very, very special announcement for this week's tour stops, plural, and a little early look at Georgia, Alabama is a big week. They're watching us in Rutledge, Tennessee, Des Moines, Iowa, Stillwater, Oklahoma, Omaha, Nebraska. Thank you for making the show what it is. And if you're some I knew around here, or if you're a veteran, but you haven't subscribed to the channel, please do that because it doesn't change the show for you, but it does help us as we drive towards 600 K subs. Jesse's going to do something significant. I've heard Jesse's going to do something significant. And if he doesn't, that's on him. Jesse, I guess you don't love this university as much as you claim you do, if you don't do something special. Okay, let's dive into the show tonight. I got to start with Missouri and what they did to Florida. 45 to 17 was the final in this game. I would give it to Chalai. Partially because it was so out of left field in terms of like the potential outcomes that you would pull out of your hat, just like eye opening levels of domination at the line of scrimmage. And you may have thought you were going to say that. You just may have thought you were going to say it about Florida. I didn't really expect domination either way, but man, I especially didn't expect to look at what I saw on the screen. So it's the first top 10 win for Eli Drinkwoods in a regular season game. They had what was it, Jesse, that cotton bowl game against Ohio State. Ohio State folks tell me that didn't count. And I actually kind of agree with them. So this is a big, big win from Missouri. It is the largest win over an AP top 10. My goodness. In program history, we paper pops so much it sounds like applause. I got padlock step for you. This actually is a paper popper. Huamam. The number two rush team in the country was out rushed to 20 to 42. Well, that can't be right. Yes, it is. It is right. And if you didn't watch this game, I assume most of you did. But if you didn't watch this game, you go watch it. Man, it was a clinic. It was a clinic. And you know what? It was a clinic without a modernity even being available for Missouri. So so much to take away. We talked winners first on the game. So it was really glaring. The extent to which Missouri just got after it upfront defensively. That's probably what stood out the most to you when you watched. This is probably what surprised you the most when you watched it. They have three sacks. They had 11 tackles for lost. They just own Florida's offensive line. And all that plus Austin Simmons just continuing to ascend. It led to what you see on the bottom of the screen right now. I got a great big monitor over here that you can't see. And it's pretty much every number and every piece of box score information that can be attributed to this game. And like every box you look at, it's just amazing. So Missouri's talked about the top two receivers. We talked about how going into this game. What was the number, Jesse? Like 17 FBS receivers had like 300 or 400 plus receiving yards and multiple touchdowns of peace. Whatever it was, Missouri had two of the 17. Well, those two guys had 14 catches for over 200 yards in the touchdown yesterday. So they went off. The guys, Missouri needed to go off, went off. And then you look on the other side and you're like, hold on, Florida had what happened to them? What about the old Miss game? Was that a mirage? No, it wasn't a mirage. The old Miss game happened. Florida really did look like that that day. They also looked like what they did yesterday. So what you really got is you got both ends of the spectrum for Florida in the span of as many weeks. It's a very, very volatile team like it's a high variance team which is to be expected in year one of a head coach. In fact, most of the time you have the lows in year one, you don't have the highest highs. Most of the time you like the ability to do what they did two weeks ago and you see some of what happened yesterday. So really what John Somerall is looking to do here is, how do I just raise this floor up? How do we have not that yesterday, but we can still hit these highs that we did against Auburn, which in retrospect is not as impressive. But the Missouri, I mean, the old Miss game still is very impressive. The offensive line, again, is we get more information like as we see more. You kind of start to say to yourself, well, they had two tune up games. They went on the road. They played what turns out to be a very not good Auburn team. They have now faced Ole Miss and going into this game. It turns out they had just placed two or it's faced two tune ups and then the bottom two run defenses in the league. So they just faced better competition yesterday. That secondary for Florida, it's very subpar. And as a result, Austin Simmons had eight different passes of 15 plus yards. That was always there. You just get further and further into the season and you have more and more opportunities to be exposed a little bit. Still means they can win games. It's just they got to work around stuff. But if you reassess Missouri for just a second, they're four and one. They lost to Mississippi State. Really, really good back and forth game. Their schedule still has A&M. They got Ole Miss and they got to buy. They go to Arkansas. They got Texas. They still got to go to Georgia, Kentucky, Oklahoma. But when you start thinking about who they play, you start asking yourself, how many of these games could they have a quarterback edge in? And the answer is a lot of them. And so they're not going to out-talent Texas. They're not going to out-talent Georgia. That's not how Missouri is going to win a game. That's not how they won this game yesterday. But they match up their way to a win. They coached and executed their way to a win. And they got a quarterback that's really
really, really good. So, I mean, it's a lot of drink, what's play into his strengths. For Florida, they kind of got to, they don't have to do anything, we got to figure out. Kind of whether they're A or B, because we have both of these every year, we have the September surprise teams. Always a few of them, they get out of the gate hot, they dominate the headlines in September, then they fall by the wayside. Florida could be that. Florida could be a team that is a sustainable contender. Next few weeks we'll tell the tale on that, because they got South Carolina and then they go to Texas before they have a buy, and then they come out of that thing and they play Georgia in Atlanta. So, I'm pretty sure we'll know most of what we need to know about Florida before then or by then. But man, Missouri, hmm, I know if you watch Georgia do this to someone, you're like, okay, wow, another convincing Georgia win. Missouri doesn't have this happen a lot. So, you got to take a second. They don't necessarily get to, but you got to take a second and you got to clap it up for them, because that's all that people throw at Eli Drinkwood. It's like, well, why can't you beat top 10 teams? Why can't you beat ranked teams? Well, the answer is because it's hard to do it. But still, eventually, like if you're going to elevate yourself, you got to get wins like this and they just got a win like this. We'll see if it's the only one this year they get like that. We were not, let me give you some chapstick here. We were not at that game yesterday. We looked at it, but we were not there because we were in Blacksburg, Virginia, Friday night for Pitt, Virginia Tech. That was an instant classic. And then we were down in Starkville yesterday for Alabama, Mississippi State, not a classic, but still a game worth talking about in a few minutes. So, I mean, we go to two games in two days. You ask yourself, self, as it relates to the Don't Tread on Saturday tour, when you have such a loaded slate coming up in week six, how do you in good conscience limit yourself to just one game? Remember back, Jesse, this is before you were even here. You hadn't been born yet, but back in 2020, 2021, 2022, director Colin used to sit back there in his dark little corner of a control room. And we used to dream about being able to go to multiple games in one day. So now we can go to multiple games in one day. So we're going to go to multiple games in one day Saturday. We're going to go up to Lincoln, Nebraska for our Friday show on ESPN. We will in Taylor. And then we will be there on Saturday as Indiana comes to town. Early number on that game, Hoosiers, an eight and a half point road favorite model. I actually don't want to spoil it because I want to show Will Compton personally what the model thinks about Nebraska. That's an 11 a.m. kickoff. That's a big noon, right? Big noon kickoff on Fox. So clat and the boys will be in town. And then at some point, we'll head down to Tuscaloosa for what could be a game of the year. Georgia at Alabama Saturday night, 630 kickoff. I think that'll be Fowler Herbstreet, that'll be the ABC crew, game days in town, notable other dignitaries in town. I'm speaking of press, of course, the one sitting behind the glass right here. We're looking forward to this weekend. This one's going to be pretty incredible. And yes, I have answered the question on social already. I will answer it here. This does mean we will have t-shirts specifically themed for both in the paid state store. They're available as we speak, paidstatematerial.com. One just one thing we missed last week, one little oversight that we missed last week. Are you trying to tell me something? This isn't live. People are saying this isn't live. Who's saying this isn't live? People in the chat are saying this isn't live. I guess someone should put something in the live chat so that I can read it on air to prove that it's live. We were having this little conversation the other day last Sunday actually. We'll pull the laptop over here. We were having this conversation the other day because we pre-recorded the AP poll segment just like we did today and we're going to do again tonight. And so we played like the end segment as a pre-record last week. And hey, dude told me to talk about Tarleton State. There we go. I think that's proof enough that we're alive. Go Tarleton State. Great game yesterday. I have no idea who they played. We're live now. But will we be live throughout the entirety of the show? I don't know. Time will tell. I'm Hamza and I'm Martin and we're the host of Out of Character. It's a podcast. I know there's a lot of them going around but why should you listen hours? Well, we're only the best podcast in the entire world and we talk about pretty much everything under the sun. For example, music we're listening to, underground music, trending music, drama in music worlds. Yes, sometimes we even talk about just everyday mundane situations in our lives like the cool Uber driver we just had or the food we just say that is surprisingly delicious. Or we'll talk about the Med Gala and the looks that they wore. Are they awesome? Are they trendy? Come find out because our opinion matters. And so does yours. And this is a place where all of our minds can come together and connect. So what are you waiting for? Come connect with us. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No, I've been dying too. I'm so sorry, I'm seeing a reading of Sudako in the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audrement Donald at the Wonderland Bookstore 14. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard New York Jones do a reading of Zero Dark Thirty. No way. I have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Catrol is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He, he winks on Halloween. The new NFL season is here. And you should be listening to NFL daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61 last year. We had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnell on the field after the game. But that was last year. If you're a football sickle like me, NFL daily is your kind of show. It is in the name, NFL daily fresh content in your feed every day, all season long. Matthew Stafford coming off his MV PC on a dazzling darts from Matthew Stafford. Big time trades that shake up the NFL. And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trope. The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60. They are bringing Lombardi back to the Northwest. If it's happening on a football field, NFL daily will cover it. Listen to NFL daily on the I Heart Radio App, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Listen, let's get back into it though. Bradley, could you show me camera one right quick? There's one thing I hate. It's the laptop, not being perfectly aligned with camera one. Okay, back to business. Man, Alabama took care of Mississippi State yesterday. 56 to 23. I give the game to Chalai. You could go less than that really. I think we saw Keelan Russell continue to become a superstar and that's kind of entertaining. Really excellent atmosphere though. I mean, this is a really, really good atmosphere. The game ended up emptying out the stadium, but several hours earlier, pretty incredible. So most points in a road game versus a ranked team in Alabama history. Here's a better one though. Remember last year how they couldn't run the ball. They had 21 rushing touchdowns all of last year. They've got 17 of them through five games right now. One of many facets of this team that has been completely overhauled. They've scored 45 plus in every game. So just a bunch of paper poppers. Remember in fall camp, about two weeks in, we started to do predictions. I looked at Alabama.
I predicted him to go to the playoff, but I said, I know this will be a little bit of an outlier, like not many people had Alabama in the playoff. I thought their high end was plenty good enough to be a playoff team, but I said, I view them a little bit differently at the time than I did Georgia or Ohio State or Texas teams like that, 'cause I thought those were pretty proven commodities, whereas I called Alabama a conditional contender, meaning there were a list of conditions that I thought they could meet, but they still needed to prove they could meet. Every one of the conditionals is lit green right now. Quarterback, I don't think anyone has a question about anymore, so you're kind of seeing what they were seeing and spring and fall that led to Keel and Russell winning the job, but the run game in the 100s last year is currently 43rd in the country, and their most talented guy is still emerging, like when you watch Alabama, and you see E.J. Crowell run the ball, and you see it like five or six times a game, you keep asking yourself, "What happens if that dude touches the ball 15, 17, 20 times per game?" He's true freshman. So kind of still a work in progress, but I mean, Trashon Brown had a bunch of carries in spring because Crowell was hurt, and he was a guy that really was not renowned all that much, had a boys-y state offer, and then Bama takes him side unseen, one of the most important pieces of that run game right now. Tight end was another one of those conditionals. I think it's the story of that team right now. It's one of the big surprise position groups in all of the SEC. Their defense is night and day different than last year. They are 10th in the country against the run. Their force in turnovers, they've scored almost every game as a defensive unit that they've played this year. The offensive line is Worlds better. The overall level of team physicality, really pick your position group. The overall level of team physicality, just the DNA of the team, it's different. So all the conditionals were on display yesterday, and they've kind of, they kind of have been on display, but it all centers around the quarterback position, 'cause there are a lot of places out there, I don't say a lot, there are some places out there this year that have highly paid rosters, but the quarterback positions a question mark, and it's not really mattering all that much. How much you paid for the rest of the rosters. First thing is, Keelen Russell's a stud, you kind of see that. The second thing is, they've recruited really good classes under Debora, which was the big question with him coming to the South, can he recruit, and all of those dudes are playing, and thirdly, they crushed it in the portal. And the third part's really important, 'cause even some folks around Alabama, even some folks that are close to the program, kind of questioned the portal philosophy. I did too. I looked and said, like some of these other places, LSU was bad running the ball last year. LSU made some moves on the offensive line. Alabama, who'd they get, they got a kid from Cal Poly? Yeah, they did. They are a very, very good offensive line unit right now, 'cause they brought in a new guy at both the tie-down and offensive line positions, coaching wise, and in this game, and then in games prior and probably in subsequent games, you see that born out in the way Keelan Russell can play. 'Cause he's got all the physical attributes. He's also got time. He's got dudes to throw the ball to. He's got dudes to hand the ball to, and he's got time. That plus his skill set, plus a guy in Kaelin Debora, who has a track record of getting the most out of quarterbacks is why he looks the way he looks right now. So I don't know when I watched him yesterday, I just, President and next to him, and I kept saying, I thought they'd be an elite team in 2027. I think they'll be an elite team in 2027. It just so happens, a lot of the reasons I think they'll be elite next year also are popping right now, quarterback, not the least among them. But yesterday, just to circle one guy, they were minus a couple of pass rushers. They're minus a couple of edge guys, or just dude injury. Xavier Griffin, five star linebacker out of this last class is a true freshman. Let the team in tack was yesterday. Think he's number 11, Jesse. You probably saw him pop a couple of times, and it's the kind of deal where you see a dude, you don't know who he is, you say, who's number 11? Xavier Griffin, that's a freshman? Wow, and you keep doing that with them. You do it at running back. You have done it probably at tight end. You did it with him. Number 10, it's safety, who's that gyrette Edwards? That's a true freshman, wow. Aren't they veteran at safety? How is he playing? Cause he's good enough to get on the field. So you just keep seeing that pop up all over the place. They got really good depth, and those two freshman tailbats combined for 17 carries, 115 yards, and two scores. So I mean, Alabama's a really good team. They're gonna get tested more than they have been so far. So like don't go over the cliff, but it's pretty obvious. That's a really, really good team with the kind of the high end potential to be a great team. Mississippi State was in a very bad spot in this game. So I don't think it's overreacting to be very complimentary of Alabama, but also it's important to kind of keep your thoughts in stride here, because Camario Taylor was far less than 100% coming into this game. Fluff Bothwell, I think I'd one carry, and then he's done for the day. So immediately, like two of the integral parts of this offense are either out or extremely limited. And yet still, I mean, Evans had 12 catches for 166. So Alabama continues to have problems with wide receiver ones. You saw doos do it in the Florida State game. You saw Evans do it yesterday. But for turnovers, 21 points off turnovers, that can't happen. They have a buy at the most important time. The Mississippi State could possibly have a buy. And now they'll have LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, like it's an SEC schedule. So they've still got a long way to go. I just wonder what the health piece is like for them, the rest of the way. And you can't possibly know. I don't even think Libby and his staff really fully knows what they'll have the rest of the way. But it just kind of makes me think as we turn the page towards the second chapter of Alabama's three chapter season, they got Georgia in town this week. They go to Tennessee the next weekend. They'll go to LSU eventually. But this was the stretch here, this at Mississippi State, Georgia, at Tennessee, A&M, at LSU. Kind of that's the stretch that you looked at as a team now that has layers to it. Defensively, they can kill you. They can run the ball a lot better. They've got multiple wide receivers that can bite you. They have one of, if not the best quarterbacks in the country right now, it's just kind of building multiple ways to win games. By the way, I'm looking at this box score. Rico Scott is one of my favorite players on that team. Rico Scott is a guy that's a perfect example of what having the right combination of staff and quarterback can do. Like his whole life has changed. The next 30 years of his life change here, because the environment he's in turns him into a really, really legit wide receiver, too, in the SEC. That translates to he's going to go play in the NFL and get a shot to play in the NFL down the road and make a career for himself. Whereas otherwise, he could have disappeared. And there's situations like that every year that you find guys like in a perfect position and then they take care of the piece on their end. They put in the work like mentally they're checked in. But it's just so funny because like last year versus this year, just night and day different for him. Interesting team to watch though. Interesting, huge game, not an interesting game, a huge game this weekend. We'll talk about Georgia in a little while. I've been working on a partnership for a little while. So I watched Taylor LaWan. I watched him do these pack rips and I asked questions because you know I'm inquisitive Jesse. So I keep asking questions because that's a new world to me. I mean, I've collected cards before but that was in the old school. That was just when you went to Walmart and begged your dad to buy a pack or two. And now it's a whole new world. You can do it digitally. But I was asking him and he said, yet you should get into this. So I explored it. And I always found the interactive piece to be the most appealing. Also like the thrill of the moment of opening those packs is very, very appealing. But I'm a novice. So like I'm entering the world and I have to have people walk me through it. So I talked to courtyard and very, very quickly talks advanced to the point where we have agreed to a partnership with courtyard. I'm actually announcing that as we speak, very, very proud to partner with courtyard. And so as is usually the case anytime we negotiate with a potential partner, I want as many different things to offer the audience as possible. So in this case, it's giveaways, it's pack ribs, it's us getting really, really creative in how we do that. Probably a lot of social elements there. But it's a fascinating world. Now here's the part that is fun for you. Many, many, many thousands of you watching this show right now know a lot more about this world than me. So I'm going to have to humbly ask you to sort of walk me through, sort of coach me through because I have watched it happen. I have somewhat participated in it, but I mean, you got sports cards, Pokémon cards, big for Jesse. You got watches, you got sneakers.
All different kind of digital packs we can rip, really fun stuff, more details to come, but I am very, very happy that we have finally put ink that is dried on paper and we are a proud partner of Courtyard now. More to come. Back to the show. Ohio State did exactly what Ohio State should do against Iowa. 31 to 14 was the final. I will give this game 1.5 chalai, and if you want to round it up to two, just because you got to witness Jeremiah Smith on live, living color television yesterday, be my guest and round it up to two, but this game is not easy to predict. Okay, and there is no such thing as a gimmie, there is no such thing as free money, there is no such thing as any of that. I thought this was as close to it as it gets, though, because Iowa had a reputation in the prediction market coming into this game that this year's team had not earned. This year's team had not run the ball effectively. This year's team had not gotten after the pass or all that effectively. This year's team had not shown the ability to clamp down on wide receiver ones like they had in the past, and so it was pretty obvious to me that they were not going to do any of those things against the best team that they've played so far this year. And the bonus was Ohio State special teams had a poor day and they still ran away with it. So Iowa even got the special teams edge on their side and still couldn't do anything with it. On our Friday show on ESPN on bus and in pain on campus, we had a proposition we threw out there and it was who will have more receiving yards during my Smith or Iowa. And everyone went during my Smith. Did anyone choose Iowa, Jesse? I think everyone chose Jeremiah Smith and sure enough, Jeremiah Smith, 11 catches, 206 yards, two scores, Iowa, 17 catches for 199. And you know what? That's actually not a terrible day for Iowa. Iowa past standards. But Jeremiah Smith is not a human being. So he has now broken the records for receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns, 100 yard games. He's on pace for 108 catches over 1900 yards and 22 touchdowns as we speak. This is the one that I need to pause for. I'm going to pop that paper loud enough where they hear it in the other room. Jeremiah Smith currently has more receiving yards than 22 FBS teams, including Brigham Young, who is currently in the top 10. He has more receiving yards than he is basically another service academy. He is he is providing for this country while they protect this country. But Jeremiah Smith an incredible player to watch. So Ohio divided if you're out there, he accused me accurately of leaving Jeremiah Smith out of last week's game. So this is the Jeremiah Smith Memorial segment. He's still alive. Very much alive. I was not anymore, but Jeremiah Smith is. So I keep watching Ohio State and I keep even in games like this. I keep watching for indicators because I think they can be the best team in the country. The indicators you're looking for are is Julian Sands play elevating. And I think it is. I think you watch him from a processing like decision making, speed and things up standpoint. The antithesis of Byron Brown in other words, you keep watching for that. I think you're seeing that. Now, you could say, boy, I'm concerned. If anyone ever does somewhat limit Jeremiah Smith, do we have depth in the receiver room? What will me you and be there? Well, Jesse's boy Brandon and his be there. I don't know. But you got to you got to limit Jeremiah Smith for I don't know what Brandon and his did to you. I don't know. I don't know how much lunch money he had to have stolen. But Jesse, he doesn't even care if I just flat out lie about the teams he predicts. But God forbid I ever say he even gave a passing compliment to Brandon and his like a snowball against the window is a 75 degrees outside. Where did you get that? So yeah, maybe Brandon and a steps up one day of Jeremiah Smith get shut down. But in any event, do they have difference makers up front on defense? Not like they have in years past. But this offensive line get overwhelmed by an elite pass rush. I don't know. On the defensive side, they've only got one player over two sacks. I think that's Kenyatta Jackson. So here's the thing about that. I've got a Ohio State group text where it's me from Columbus, Georgia and a bunch of people from Columbus, Ohio. And this is not the first time this has happened, but it's the latest time it's happened. So temperature inside my Ohio State group text is far colder than the temperature towards Ohio State in the free world. In the free world, we're looking at that team and we're saying, okay, Ohio State is not a perfect team, but who is inside their world? They just know Ohio State is not a perfect team. So like they're they're honing in on the potential flaws and here's what could bite us. Oh yeah, that's technically true, but everyone's got them. Even back in the 20 teens, those Clemson and Bama teams, they had flaws, they're really small, but they had them. So yeah, it's about improving too, like it's October 4th. So it's about improving. It's about being a better version of yourself in late November than you are now. Develop some dependable depth in the wide receiver room or this is an idea that I don't know that the coaching staff is thought of, find a way to get Chris Henry on the field. Jesse, is that in the playbook up there? Do you think? I don't know. Can't beat out Brandon in, is this one? Yeah. Just get better. That's my strategy for Ohio. That's the reason I still believe in him. I have this crazy belief that they can get better. So they are one quarter away from being the slam dunk number one team in the country. Is that worth a whole lot in October? No, it's not. I just want to provide some perspective there. Now, I know a lot of more casually minded Ohio State fans. You're not freaking out. I'm mainly taking this opportunity to talk to the Ohio State group text I have. Right now, Jesse, do me a favor, pull up a fan door right quick. Can you find me the current big 10 odds? Just out of curiosity. I know, I think I know Ohio State is still favorite. Yeah. So Ohio State is still the favorite to win the big 10 number two's Indiana. They're going to play Indiana. Is it next week? It's the week after this week, right? Yeah. So it's coming up really, really soon. Oregon's still in this thing. How about you, C-L-A? Phew. Man, like less than halfway through the season. So yeah, the big 10, I'm not calling it wide open, but it is. I would still call it Ohio States to lose. I think that's a fair stance to have right now. You know, Oregon could have a lot to say about that. Nebraska? Could have a lot to say about that. I know a lot of you are very been out of shape about that. Got some winners from yesterday. Got some losers from yesterday that I need to touch on here. Miami just handled Clemson 41 to 13. It was just an egregious schedule yesterday from a television perspective. Some of you watched this, many, many more of you did not even think it was worth your time. But the best way I could describe the game is Miami did everything to Clemson Clemson used to do to people. They are what Clemson used to be. It's a tough pill to swallow, but this was one of the least shocking results of yesterday, the only thing about Miami, which didn't hurt him in this game, but could hurt him down the road, is they are really banged up. Like they got a legit injury issue. It's just, I look at their schedule right now. I don't know when it bites them, but then again, I'm not putting this stuff past Miami. Like Miami dropped two games in the regular season last year. So you can't sleepwalk. I know you think Florida State sucks 'cause they have, but Florida State also blew Virginia off the field yesterday. A bit, I don't know, with the backup quarterback, but still technically undefeated, and Bill Belichet keeps scoring on the first driving against everybody. So maybe North Carolina first quarter Miami for the game. That's three weeks down the road. That's an insane proposition. Look, Davos Swenney, the situation there, is gonna be assessed at the end of the year. They have faced two legitimate teams, and they've been blown off the field both times, by LSU and Miami. That's the bad news. The good news is there are no more LSUs or Miamis on this schedule. So the rest of the way, they've played North Carolina and Cal already. They got a lot of those kinds of games. The ACC's just, it's Miami, and then it's a bunch of. And maybe a couple of teams, a little bit above that pack, but the rest of it's just a bunch of. So Clemson, it's like, when we play Church League softball on Friday nights, we know the life point teams are kind of stacked up. So you know you're probably gonna to an L when you play them, but then the rest of the league, it's true church teams. And it's gonna be competitive. Anyone can beat anyone. And the ACC is a church league softball with a couple of travel teams that just load up to get some extra hacks in during the week. It's the best way I can describe the SEC. Miami is a travel team that's playing league ball in the ACC. That is what they are. Kentucky and South Carolina. Would you call this the game of the day, Jesse? Would you call it a five-child life classic? Four and a half. Four and a half-child life, yeah, at least four and a half-child life. Huge moment for Will Stein. Really happy for those guys. I mean, this is a situation now. Year one of a coach in the SEC that's gone to A&M and one, just went into South Carolina in October and one. How, hold that? Hold that. Do you hear this? It can't be coming from the control room, but there is a live feed in my ear. Oh, yeah, October is canceled just now, just in. Fresh off the wire and it brings me no joy. I love celebrating October, but where's Cruz? Would you say they're one in nine in their last 10 games in October. Some are saying October may have been dead long before yesterday, not me because I want to believe in October. But at some point, it's like Rod Stewart said, you gotta give me a reason to believe. I have no reason to believe right now. Knowing that you lie in straight face while I cry, a lot of those lyrics really match up a South Carolina football. Anyway, this is one of the crazier paper poppers that I'll ever read. So if you're driving, buckle your seatbelt, you should be wearing it already. This is the third time in the last four SEC games that South Carolina has had a 16 point lead or greater and lost. It gets worse. In those three games, they have had a combined 63 to three lead and gone o and three in those games. I know you're asking how I don't have an answer for you. And I can't guarantee you it's gonna get better. It's just all negative except for Kentucky, big congrats to them. What do they get as a reward? Lane Kiffin in town on a Saturday night this weekend. Could be entertaining. We move on. You wanna talk dark times, man. Look at Michigan football right now. Minnesota beat Michigan yesterday, 20 to 14 and PJ Flex straight up lost his mind. You know, technically there were no bodily fluids mirrored across his face. If you don't know anything about college football, what I just said, somehow sounds worse than it actually is. And what it actually is is him smearing one of his players blood across his face last week. So believe it or not, it can get worse than that, but it didn't, but it did for Michigan. I don't know how to sugarcoat this. They had 180 total yards. Price Underwood was 10 of 21 for 101, zero touchdowns, two picks, big congrats to Minnesota. Like this schedule only gets tougher for Michigan. Right now, if I had to guess their record, they will struggle to make a bowl. They still got, I mean, a lot of, I guess everything's technically winnable, but they still got to play Indiana. They've still got to go to Oregon. They've still got UCLA. They go to Ohio State. I don't know what the Penn State game will be in two weeks. I've got some theories on it. But man, this is bad. I'm going to talk more about this later on. We're going to do a hot seat segment. And I'm going to talk about the Michigan situation just as a whole. This is big win for USC. Like I don't want to make fun of this. USC, they looked dead in the water against Washington for a time last night. And they won 25 to 21. And it's a really big moment for Lincoln Riley. My biggest concern about USC this weekend was they'd just be a dead team. Kind of like we saw Penn State last year where the Oregon game just crowbard him right to the shins and they were done. And we found out immediately, like the next week they were done. And that could have been this game. Because Washington's not a good team. That offense is non-existent outside of Demon Williams. And yet they led this game 21 to 10. And there was one of the most atrocious tackling efforts collectively that you've ever seen on the scamper down the sideline for Washington to go up 21 to 10. That's the point where if this is a dead team, they tap out into their credit. They put together a 13 play 75 yard drive as a response. They ended up pitching a shut out in the second half. I think I think in the second half after that at least and they won the game. They didn't cover, but they held Washington to one of 12 on third down and they won the game. It does not totally ease all concerns. It doesn't make me feel great about how they'll fare in Columbus, Ohio. For that matter, I don't even know if I trust him this week and he gets Penn State and they got a wheelbarrow full of problems themselves, but they're not dead. So that's an important distinction. They're not dead. So congrats to USC. Tennessee and Auburn, there was technically a winner here. Tennessee won 24 to 14. Auburn's is not good. So that's my breakdown for Auburn. You got to stop with the outlet's goalish nonsense. They're just not good. It turns out it's going to take a year, at least, to put a competent product on the field. He needs time. Even in the portal era, some people still need time. Face on branding, it's pulled in this game. And Tennessee wins with 86 passing yards. It was just a ugly game. If we put a chowly rating on this game, negative? [BLANK_AUDIO]
be a negative rating, it was bad, but the Sean Bishop wasn't. And they needed him to carry it 34 times. He did 220 yards, six and a half yards per carry. And it's a game where they badly needed it. Auburn had 11 penalties. They had three turnovers. There's not much to say about Auburn right now. Georgia handled Vandy eventually. This is a close game at the half. Last week, we did our SEC quarterback rankings. We had Gunner Stockton fifth. I don't, if we re-did those rankings right now, I don't know that I would vault him way up past other guys because there are other guys playing good too. Gunner Stockton is a better quarterback this year than he was last year. And that's saying something because he was pretty efficient last year. He's just better this year. He's 25, a 32 in this game, Roofer nearly 300, had three touchdowns. Here's an important stat. They had eight different players with multiple receptions in this game. They stay on schedule, like he keeps them out of bad spots. He doesn't make a ton of mistakes. He's obviously a plus weapon with his legs. This was a physical game. I know a lot of you didn't watch this and the final score makes it look like it was just some blowout. And it was in the end. I credit Vanderbilt, like they threw punches. They took worse ones cause it's Georgia, but they made it a physical game. In the end, Georgia's just a better way better roster than Vanderbilt. Jared Curtis didn't start this game. I'll blaze burlowitz kind of did what he could. Made some throws. It's just tough, man. Virtually no one goes into Athens and wins. And so Georgia goes to Alabama this week. The game we were at Friday night was an instant classic. At 35, Virginia Tech 33, I think the field goal may have been good. I can't prove that it was good. I can't believe it is. Let me check. Hold on. It's 2026. And we cannot tell where a football is at all times. We still have grown men, hauling around chains to spot balls. We have uprights that don't extend high enough to where it always is higher than the football will be. Jimbo Fisher called for lasers a long time ago. We're still not using them. We have all the technology. Tennis has used it forever and yet here we are. College football leadership has not gotten around to these fixes yet. But what a scene this was in Blacksburg. So I thought this was over early. It was 14-0 with like eight minutes to go in the first quarter, something like that. It was really, really quick. And it looked like Pitt would do nothing offensively. And finally they put stuff together. Now the downside for them is obviously they lose Mason Heichel for the season and yet still figured out a way to win the game. Just I mean both teams created a spectacle of a game on a Friday night and we were very, very lucky to be there. I need to adjust in my seat. I need to put the chapstick on. I need to soften my tone. I need to not make eye contact with anyone in the control room. There's one game we haven't talked about yet. Yeah, turn away. Look away. So also on a Friday night, there was a game in a brand new stadium. Beautiful. Some of the sight lines in the press box look a little sketchy, but who cares about the media? And Penn State was a short favorite. The model of Northwestern. I ignored it and it turns out I shouldn't have. So I don't know what else to say. I think you can tell by the tone that a very special, but not necessarily a fun portion of the show has arrived. The Sarah McLaughlin special for week five is Penn State football Friday morning, we woke up Northwestern had the 90-second rushing outfit in the country. Friday night, Northwestern outrushed Penn State 413-48. Northwestern had 11 runs longer than Penn State's longest run. Aden Childs threw four 93 yards and Northwestern won by three touchdowns anyway. After leading Wisconsin, 17-0, a week prior, Penn State has been outscored 58 to 16 in those two conference games. And for the second year in a row, it brings me absolutely not an ounce of joy to announce that Penn State's playoff hopes have gone up in smoke before my mother has even put out Halloween decorations back in Harris County, Georgia. Week five, Sarah McLaughlin special, the Penn State, Whitney Lions, and more important, producer Jessie. Sometimes I don't give enough pause at the end, and I just think sometimes you need to let the Sarah McLaughlin special fade. I can't believe it. I feel so bad for you, Jessie. I really do. But, it was a fun day for the rest of us. How was your Saturday, Jessie? So that was Friday night, and then you had to get up the next morning and go on about your life. Thumbs up, thumbs down, thumbs in the middle. Thumbs up. You had a good Saturday? No, you didn't. No, you didn't. You didn't text me. You didn't say a word. You didn't ask me how my flight was. You didn't ask me how breakfast was. It was good, by the way. You didn't ask how to find people of Starkville and Mississippi were treating us great, by the way. No, Chip Kelly takes the belt to Jessie and he's just a ghost the rest of the day. But you know what? You know what happens this Saturday? You get another shot. More on that in a second. Are you familiar with PaystateMaterial.com? And are you familiar with the month of October? If you're familiar with either, I am happy to announce that they are merging on the website as we speak. We got a little pumpkin design t-shirt over there that I think is one of the better ones we've ever done. We got a Ramanoodle Express spooky Saturday t-shirt over there where the conductor is a literal skeleton that I think is very sweet. Are those bats on the hat? Yeah, those look good. And why wouldn't your toddler look better in a don't tread on Saturday once with a dead snake cold around a football? Who doesn't want their little one? Dress like that. I know I would. Also has nothing to do with spooky Saturday in honor of our trip to Lincoln this weekend. Obviously we have the don't tread on Saturday shirts, but I had Alex commission a special t-shirt. It's there right now. It just says what about Nebraska? Compton says it to me all the time. What about Nebraska? And I said, that's a t-shirt idea. And now we put it on the website with a little corn cob as the period underneath the question mark. So paintstatementorial.com. Lot of new items over there. Let's get to the sad part of the show. It's that time of year. Teams are losing. Coaches are failing to meet expectation. The hot seat is really heating up. Obviously you're going to hear a lot about Shane Beamer. Shane Beamer is a great dude. I don't really have fun talking about this. It does feel like it's probably running its course there. So it's a matter of time. I know there are some people who do believe that the buyout number is still a little bit too big for them to pull the trigger on. Most people I talk to don't think that way. Most people I talk to think they'll they'll find the money. So they're at Florida this weekend. Then they have a buy. They're about a two touchdown underdog this weekend. I guess is that's when it would happen. My bigger piece of curiosity is how this job is perceived. Because I've asked a few different agent types like I've asked people how's that job perceived in the market? And you get like varying answers on that. So ultimately if the job's open, you'll find out. But I think some due diligence is being done behind the scenes already there. So Michael Oxley at Maryland, he's done that search has begun behind the scenes matter of when not if I always get scared. I'm going to say that wrong Jesse. You think it's a matter of if not when like that's how it's going to roll off the tongue, but that's not the case here. It's a matter of when not if. Same. How appealing is that job? What does the pull of candidates look like? You know, could Maryland go and get one of these coordinators? How many other jobs open that bumps Maryland down the ladder? These are all very important questions. Florida State, huge win yesterday. Now I know Ross Dallinger has done a lot of reporting on this. And like when you talk to some people around Florida State, they echo what he said. So I think Ross is very on the money with how he has assessed this. And what he has said is the outside world just believes it's a matter of when not if with Mike Norvel, but that's not been the feel behind the scenes. The feel behind the scenes is they badly want him to succeed. They still want to give him every opportunity. They know he has been handcuffed a little bit. Those things are true, by the way. They don't want to fire him. They also don't want to eat a massive buyout. So I don't know that the Florida State job is going to come open. And if it does, like what kind of money are you putting together to fire that staff, hire or a new staff. So it might--
Jack Norville, the best thing he can do for them is make it a moot point by doing more of what he did yesterday. All right, this Michigan thing, that's a big question marked to me. I have not even spent time talking to anyone about Kyle Wittingham's job security or anything like that. He is halfway, he's not even halfway through his first year there. Obviously, it's a little bit different circumstance where he is, he's not a young coach. He is a coach who kind of got pushed out at Utah and this magical confluence of events transpired where he got one of the premier jobs in college football because Michigan absolutely is a premier job in college football. And everyone felt, including me, like his style, his DNA, his ethos, his world view, pretty well meshes with what should work at Michigan. So far, it's not working. He inherited Bryce Underwood, that's not Kyle Wittingham at all. So I'll grant you all that. I think the bigger question that the rest of the season will bear out is just the overall, I don't know what the word, the overall juice, the overall life, the energy the program has. When I watch them, if there's going to be an indictment on Kyle Wittingham, that's the indictment to me so far. It's just like, I don't, like a comatose feeling team, they've, they're talented. Like it's not a lack of talent, it's just, I don't know, there's no spark. There's no, the thing that's supposed to be there, it's not there. It could be that they just need to wipe it after this year and Kyle Wittingham will be fine. Or it could be one of those rare examples where mutual parties look and say, hey, man, we tried this out. It didn't work. I don't think that's what Kyle Wittingham would do. I'm just saying this is something that at least bears close watching because obviously big changes have to happen. If not at the top, then below the top, both positionally and staff wise, you got to think that. I don't know how you wouldn't think that watching Michigan. And to me, the most interesting situation will be Oklahoma. Oklahoma went into a biweek two and two. They've got Texas right out of the biweek. They got Kentucky, which is not easy. They're going to Mississippi state, which is not easy. They still got to go to Florida. They got Ole Miss. They got A&M and Atma Zuri in the year. There are probably multiple additional losses coming up. Right now, Fandool has their over underwent total of five and a half. Let's say the overhits and they go six and six. Those people will demand changes. They'll be right to demand changes. Offense is terrible. The team is not good. And they believed it would be. So I know a lot of people may look and scratched their head and Brent and Vendible's getting that extension before the season, valid. Not quite sure the new AD, there's the one who drew that up. So I say that to say, if you're thinking is, well, I mean, that's that new athletic director's hand-picked head coach. He signed that extension. Didn't he? Kind of. Not really. So let's just keep an eye on that because I think at all these jobs, like if the USC job ever opened, that's a really big one. I think very, very highly of the Oklahoma job. I think a lot of people in the market do as well. Still a lot of time. Not even halfway through the year yet. A lot of games this weekend. It's one of the biggest weekends of the season. I know a lot of you were headed there, though I wrote the wrong thing on the paper. Pete 11 is not the promo code. Pete 10 is the promo code, so you can go to seat geek right now. I saw Savannah State earlier today put out a little PSA, unprompted, unless she got her own seat geek deal. She could have. I don't know. Anyway, she said, hey, stop bothering people about tickets. They don't have them. This is like a chronic problem during big game weeks. Anybody who works for an athletic department or a football program, the outside world thinks you just have a pocket full of tickets you can give away. They don't. Seat geek does, but they can't exactly give them away, but you can get them into discounted rate. If you go there, you can get parking, you can get concert tickets, whatever. But I'm talking about college football tickets. Interpromo code, paid 10 at checkout, PAT10, that'll get you 10%, all orders up to $200, and $20 off, all orders above $200. AP stuff coming up in a few minutes, firstly, we got a really big game Saturday. We're going to be there for it, Georgia, Alabama. For a long time, they didn't play another play like multiple times a year, it seems. So this is presented by Jimmy John's, I have a, this is not Jimmy John's fault. I got a wound on my finger from a staple in a Jimmy John's bag the other night. We got on the plane. They had Jimmy John's in my seat for me. That was the good news. The bad news is I'm bleeding all over that pack. No, that's before I opened it, press. So the wound is moments away, look at me, I have no idea what's, what's right around the corner. So yeah, barbecue brisket sandwich available, Jimmy John's dot com or on the Jimmy John's app right now. So I have a close eye on the forecast again. Thankfully the rain threat led up as we got closer to last weekend's kickoffs. I am, I'm trying as hard as I can to make sure that this tropical system that's going to come on shore later in the week kind of pushes to the east. And if some others have to get drenched for us to stay dry, so be it. Some of you may, I got to say this in a very, very non-immunity type of way. Some of you may get moisture, but it's a risk I'm willing to take for the bigger games to remain dry. There we go. That was very professional. A year ago, I can't do that. So I've grown, those classes have paid off. This has game of the year potential. And they played twice last year, Bama won the first time in Athens SEC championship game. Georgia just just sledgehammered Alabama. So some early thoughts here. These may be the two best tight end rooms in the country. I will say this so that Alabama can take it personal. I still think Georgia's got the best tight end room I've seen in the country. Alabama's got the most surprising tight end room. I've seen in the country so far this year. The offensive efficiency piece for Georgia, really fascinating to watch. They are deadly efficient, offensively, but it's predicated on them staying on schedule. Like you watch Russell, it was like 3rd and 12 yesterday, just making insane alien throws. That's not necessarily Gunner Stockton's game, but he doesn't need it to be his game because he's really good in that O-line, that ground game, that's complimentary style. They're really good at staying on schedule. You don't see them behind the chains a lot on 3rd down. Now they haven't played a team like Alabama. They haven't gone into an environment like this, but that's a pretty veteran team. So like a lot of those guys have just not this year per se. So it's really interesting like can Bama affect that Alabama struggled with wide receiver once. So far this year there have been some guys put up big numbers on them. What's one of the talking points about Georgia? No, if they got a wide receiver one, well, they may have one that emerges here because they've had a bunch of them contribute to a degree. The tail and tailor, I think was a guy that went off for a couple of weeks ago, like maybe that's a guy that you look up and all of a sudden, why is it 158 receiving yards in this game? Time will tell, Keelan Russell versus Kirby Smart and Glynch human is awesome. We saw Trinidad Chamblis go against them in a playoff game last year and to some degree they did some good things. But ultimately when a premier player plays his A game, there's not an answer for that. Like you've got to trade points and that's a spot Georgia hasn't been in yet. If Bama's going to get 34 in this game, does Georgia get 38? Do they have a way to do that? Does Gunnar Stockton get in a point trading contest and deliver? That's kind of that's kind of the million dollar question here. By the way, if you're watching the video, please like and subscribe to the channel. We're happy to have you here. It's free. It's college football for free. The Georgia run game versus Bama's defense. That's an area Georgia normally has an advantage. You certainly could have had a plus advantage in this department against Alabama last year. Georgia did last year. Those number 10 run defense in the country right now, they have greatly fortified that run defense. Georgia believes they can run the ball in anybody. That's just that's the beauty of having these games play out. And the best part kind of working off that, the best part of this game is both of these themes believe they take a backseat to nobody physically. Georgia's been that way for a long time. This year's Bama team is like that someone's got to be number two physically Saturday. Who's it going to be? We'll do a full breakdown on this game Tuesday. I just when we have games of this magnitude, this really could be a game of the year. I like to just kind of get some thoughts out there early. This game opened at I believe Georgia minus one and a half. It is actually Jesse checked this cause it changed all afternoon. Alabama is favored slightly in the game now, so it kind of crossed zero on us. I saw it goes high as two and a half for a little while this afternoon. And it is right now Alabama minus one and a half. There you go. Saturday night, 7 30 Eastern 6 30 central right there in Tuscaloosa. Man, what a game it's going to be. Okay, so last week and every Sunday from
from here moving forward. I came into the office and I said, Jesse, why when the AP poll comes out at noon, do we wait until 7 p.m. to break it down? It's one of our best performing pieces of content every week. We should record it early and go ahead and put it out. Now because I know some of you like to watch the entire show or listen to the entire podcast, I wasn't gonna remove the AP segment from the show. So what we decided on was we'll record it early and release it as an individual video for the people who just consume individual videos but we'll still keep it, we'll take that pre-recorded piece of content and put it into the live show. It seems like a very basic strategy. So we do it last year or last week. People lost their minds in the chat. I have no idea why. Anytime we run pre-recorded content, at best it's been recorded like two hours before we air it. So it's not dated in any way. So I say all that to say, at 7.59 p.m. I am live telling you that I am about to toss to a piece of content we recorded two hours ago because most of you have not heard it and watched it yet. And therefore, without further ado, slash to do, as Mima used to say, let's talk about the AP poll. We could have a first in AP poll reaction culture here at Pate State, proudly driven by RAM every week. And the first time that this little truck on the bottom of the screen has not delivered anger and outrage to me that I can meet or exceed is tonight. I'm not saying this is perfect. But for all the flock, for all the heat that I toss the AP poll's way, I'm only mildly raising my eyebrows at a lot of this but I looked at the comments earlier today, Jesse, and I am not meeting the public on this. The public is still outraged. Some going as far as to call this the worst to date this year. And I had a much bigger problem with last week, however, this is more a matter of principle for a lot of you guys. So I would go to all this like a lot of you were talking about Boise and SMU at 23 and 24. And you were saying, what about so and so? And Kentucky is one of the really, really popular whatabouts 'cause Kentucky, Jesse correct me if I'm wrong, they were 25 last week. Kentucky was like in this thing last week. They won and then they fell out. And in a vacuum, what that tells you is my team was ranked and then they won and then they got punished for it. Now it's not in a vacuum, obviously. It's a very, very fluid world. It's like a bowl of alphabet soup and yours is just one of the letters in there. There's a lot of other stuff floating around. So the right way to approach that, if you wanna make the case for Kentucky, isn't why did they drop? To me, you can make the case for Kentucky by just saying, why should Kentucky's resume have them behind SMU? Why should Kentucky's resume have them behind Boise? Because Kentucky's loss is to a really, really good Alabama team who they trailed at the half, even though that's not an official stat. They went to A&M and housed A&M. They played South Alabama. They just went to South Carolina and won a really, really impressive game on the road last night. Now, you could look at any individual bullet point there and pick it apart, but you're not gonna look at SMU's resume and tell me they've done anything more impressive because the Louisville loss, even though you may not like that this is how it works and I would be with you, it loses more value by the second because Louisville continues to deteriorate as a metric on your resume, second by second and also Boise, like your merit there is you close lost it up at Oregon and you've beaten Memphis, so I'd probably even make the case more so that SMU shouldn't be there than Boise. Wake Forest, a lot of people saying Wake Forest with the Louisville win at Purdue stand for their only losses to Miami, pretty competitive game against Miami. They should be there, I could see it, I could see Duke being in there, they're undefeated. The problem is if we're gonna do the thing that I believe in, which is continuing to update the old resume weekend and week out, I hate to do it like this but don't you have to maybe turn the volume down a little bit on the value that you were giving a win at Illinois, just as an example, as we found out more about Illinois. So like I'm not outraged as much as I was a couple of weeks ago that Duke's not ranked, even if I think they should be ranked. All I'm saying is I kind of wag my finger instead of pound my fist about it. Northwestern, I could make an argument they should be up here. Jesse, do you remember where Northwestern was? They were like in that 26 to 30 range, right? So yeah, Northwestern, I can make the argument should be up here. They just beat Penn State and handled Penn State. They've beaten Colorado, South Dakota State, I believe they beat. So Northwestern's only loss is a really, really competitive loss to Indiana, could they not be up there? Nebraska's undefeated, Nebraska hasn't played much of anyone but they could be up there too. So yeah, but I don't really think that's outrage and a lot of people were just taking huge exception to that. To me, if you want to be mad about something, you need to start talking about the difference in Mississippi State and Iowa. And one of, like a lot of you did, I just screen-shat one of those, Brandon said, "How did Mississippi State only drop one spot for a 33 point loss against Bama?" And Iowa dropped six spots for a 17 point loss against Ohio State, it makes no sense. And buddy, you know I love you even though we've never met in real life. I don't have an answer for you 'cause there's nothing that doesn't meet the eye here. Like sometimes there are extenuating circumstances or factors, you know that when someone explains it, you go, "Oh, okay, there's no okay here." The fact was, last week, these two teams were close to the same. They were 16th and 14th, respectively. Now, the one that was 16th is 17th after a blowout loss at home. And the one that was 14th is 20th, after a much closer loss at home. I don't have an answer for you. I got no answer for you. And you could even take into account some of these pollsters may look at Camario Taylor being injured and they may dock you further. They didn't even do that, Jesse. Mississippi State still gets the benefit of the doubt, which is crazy because Mississippi State was way underrated in the poll last week. The last couple of weeks, to me, one of the biggest talking points has been, these people are sleeping on Mississippi State. You would think that they would have taken this opportunity to waive the "I told you so" finger in your face and disproportionately drop Mississippi State, but they didn't, so I have no idea. For that matter, there's a big mess on our hands right now about head to head and how to handle head to head. And the SEC is just gonna throw all this in a blender for you guys that have AP poll votes the rest of the way. You're already realizing it. Like someone was asking about the head to head situation and how it doesn't make sense. Like Micah said, man, if only Mississippi State had played Missouri, so we knew which one was better. Yeah, I get where you're coming from with that. Bradley, give me the poll again for a second immunity. So he's saying, well, Mississippi State and Missouri just played a couple of weeks ago. They just played, how should Missouri be ahead of Mississippi State? Well, it's because unlike the first couple to three weeks of the season, when you get this deep in the year, like we're getting towards the halfway point of the year. It happens pretty quick. You do have to value head to head. You should always value head to head. But you gotta make up your mind if you're a voter. Are you either gonna honor head to head almost exclusively or are you gonna ignore it? And by ignore it, I mean, bake it in as just one of many factors you care about. 'Cause what you can't do is you can't conditionally do it. You can't look at certain protocol or certain matchups or other comparisons and say, well, A's got head to head win over B. So I gotta put A ahead of 'em. But then over here, you're like, I don't really care that B beat A two weeks ago. 'Cause I still think A's better. Well, that doesn't really follow logic. But you gotta make up your mind. 'Cause right now you're just in a blender, 'cause Florida beat Ole Miss, but Ole Miss is ninth and Florida's 16th. And then Mississippi state, like he just said, they beat Missouri, but Missouri's 14th and MSU 17th. And even outside the SEC, like Oklahoma State, just a few weeks ago, beat Oregon. And now, Oregon's 13th and Oklahoma State is 18th. You could individually explain all of that because you could say, theoretically, if you're an AP voter, yes, Florida did beat Ole Miss. And I took that into account. Even above and beyond that, I still think there's more on Ole Miss's resume that warrants them being top 10 than there is Florida's at this time. I'm okay if you say that, but you have to spread the peanut butter evenly over the piece of bread from a logic standpoint, at least. We do need to talk about bringing them young. I've avoided this. I'm number one because I love the logo. And number two, because I really believe, I don't say it in past tense quite yet. I believe in Brigham Young coming into the season. There was a time, Jesse, remember our 1.0 predictions where I actually had Brigham Young winning the big 12. I backed off of it a little bit right before the season started. Had Texas Tech win in the league. I ain't bragging because Texas Tech may not win it either. But BYU KUG here said, overrated team, it might just be Brigham Young. It might be hashtag us, hey, yeah, it might be.
I'm not gonna plant the flag hardcore here, but bring 'em youngs at eight. I'm pretty sure there are more than eight teams better than bring 'em young, but then again, this is not predictive, it's not like supposed to be a power rating. This is supposed to be us, we'll slash them as the voters judging your resume. Utah Tech, Arizona, Colorado State, TCU, like those are your wins. They beat TCU by seven yesterday. That's not a good TCU team. They had 62 passing yards, they had just over 200 yards total offense, but they're undefeated. And a lot was expected of them in the preseason. So that's just the way an AP voters mind works, like they're not going to start bumping you if they thought something of you until you lose games. You can disagree with that logic, I do too, however, I'm asking myself, all right, well, if I disagree with it, how far would I bump, bring 'em young? And no one really knows how to handle 'em. No one really knows how to handle the big 12 for that matter. The big 12 feels to me like an island. It's just offshore, you can see it, but you don't really know what's on the island. I'd have no idea what the big 12 is because we've gotten a very, very limited cross-conference sample size. Now, full credit where it's due. We've got some of those data points that look really good for a team like Oklahoma State. What they did to Oregon, that's awesome. That's wonderful. We just don't have a lot of them. So it could be that the entire top half of that conference is better than we realize. Or it could be the entire conference is existing sort of in a chamber, a little incestuous cross-competitive chamber. And everyone's going to look varying degrees of good against each other. But in a wide open setting like the AP poll where you're compared to the rest of the country, all of them may be overrated. Don't know. Quite literally don't know. It is funny though, Jesse. If you look at where the big 12 teams are, you've got to bring them all the way up at eight, Texas, Texas 11, Utah's 12, then you've got to go down a little ways. Oklahoma State's 18, Houston is 22. It may very well be that those teams at 18 and 22 end up being one or two of the best teams in the league. I'd especially say that about Oklahoma State. I don't think really many people want to play them right now. Correct me if I'm wrong, Jesse. Texas Tech goes to still water in a few weeks. That's on the schedule. Like that's happening in a few weeks. So we'll see about that. Some people had a problem where Bama is Sky Underwood said Bama deserves to be at number three and that's coming from an Auburn die hard. I can get on board with that, but I don't feel strongly about that. It's a weird week for me with the AP. Normally, I'm really, really definitively taking stances on this stuff. When I look at where Bama is, I'd be okay if they were at three. I'm also okay that they're at six. I just ask this. If you took Georgia, Notre Dame, and Miami, those are number two, three, four. None of them have really played much of anyone so far. You think they're all really good. I think they're all really good. So I'm not saying I have a problem with where they're ranked. I'm just wondering if you're giving those teams sort of preseason benefit of doubt, meaning you thought something about them coming into the year. They've done nothing to change your mind, even if they haven't really played a murderer's row yet. Why aren't you doing the same thing for Indiana? Those people thought highly of Indiana coming into the year two, Indiana's done nothing really to change your mind. So I'm wondering why is Bama ahead of Indiana and not ahead of a Miami or a Notre Dame or Georgia? Because to me, if I thought lower of Bama, then those teams coming into the year, I'd probably have Bama either ahead of all of them or behind all of them. That's a moot point. Obviously they're going to play tougher teams. That's the only thing that I would caution with Alabama. They've looked really good, but I keep asking, in November, when you look at a string of Kentucky, Florida state, Mississippi state, when you start looking at those kinds of teams, how impressive will that string be in November? It may be irrelevant because they may be six days away from beating Georgia by two touchdowns. They may be two weeks away from going to Tennessee and winning in Neal and at that point, it's a totally different ball game. So I'm saying we don't know what the future holds, so in the here and now, you could put Bama at two or three. I'd be fine with that. I just know things outrageous there at six and a lot of people, I think a lot of people started projecting Jesse. I think a lot of people probably finally watched like a whole Bama game. It's all Keelan Russell and they thought about the sky high potential. It's there, no doubt. And so they started wanting to predict and project. And to me, the time will come just like with Indiana. That's the difference to me in talking about a Bama versus a Brigham Young. I know Bama's got the test coming, so I don't really worry about it all that much. I don't know where all the tests are for Brigham Young outside of when Notre Dame goes out there. And if that's like a definitive 30 to 10 kind of final, do they plummet or do they just fall six spots or something like that? But I don't know. I think the AP was okay this week, not without flaw, but I thought it was okay. I've seen far worse AP polls this year. I'll say that. You know, Fandall is the exclusive odds provider of the show. Yes, you do. You also know that I just pound the table constantly and try and get free money out of them. That's what I've always done. Now, the ramen noodle express still well about 500 for the year. I was not happy last week. We went two games under 500. I think it was four and six. Maybe five and seven. Yeah, four and six. Mitch is looking out. Mitch had that answer really quickly. Answered like someone who was personally affected by the ramen noodle express only going four and six. But that's okay, Jesse, because we got Penn stayed on our side. Which best bet of the week? Penn State. I've seen all I need to see. I'm ready to put them on the ramen noodle express. Penn State plus one and a half against USC. Believe it or not, we think the wrong team's favorite there. Buffalo plus 19 and a half. We rode with them last week. They almost went outright, didn't they press? Yeah, it was a three point loss. Happy to ride Buffalo again. So Penn State plus one and a half, Buffalo plus 19 and a half. Those are the early best bets aboard the ramen noodle express. I appreciate you guys so much for watching. Please make sure you are subscribed to the channel. We are pushing towards 600,000 subs.
