You probably heard it because you were sitting like five feet from me just watching some old Virginia Tech. Highlights of the biggest moments, most lively moments in Lane Stadium in my lifetime. If Friday goes right, if Friday goes just right, we could get one. This is a winnable game. Should be two ranked teams, but I digress. We are not a show that bashes the AP poll, but we are a jam-packed show. On this Tuesday, September 29th, Year of Our Lord 2026, high atop a sparkling, but sun-setting downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Summer couldn't last forever. Week 5 predictions are upon us. But also. Immunity in advance. The JP poll is upon us all. And I've got some very, very interesting disagreements between not only you and the JP poll, but myself and the JP poll. We will also continue our exercise in utter futility in trying to explain the JP poll. But, we do it all in good fun. The quarterback rankings in the SEC. I just think I want to update them. We have seen some changes. Arch Manning entered the season number two. Turns out we. We misread the situation. So, I need to re-rank the SEC quarterback. So, Jesse, let's pull all the billiard balls back in here. Let's just re-rack them. And we will do that in a few minutes. There is a lot of overreaction in this sport right now. Frankly, some under-reaction, but a lot of overreaction. And so, I've got several things, like six of them, that I've circled and I want to talk about tonight. They're watching us during this jam-packed show in Summerlin, Nevada. Never been there before. Sounds nice, though. Old Bridge, New Jersey. Pensacola, Florida. Fredericksburg. Virginia. Thank you guys so much. We are live, Jesse. Live as live can be at 7.01 p.m. Central Standard Time. Here's what happened the other night. And it's going to continue to happen, by the way, because we've got great traffic on it. The AP poll comes out at, like, noon on Sundays, right? So, we get into the office around the same time. So, there's no sense in waiting to the live show to do our AP video. So, I recorded it at, like, what, 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock, or something like that. And we went ahead and put it up on the YouTube channel. Now, since most of you aren't just regularly checking the YouTube channel, and a lot of you just love to watch the live show, and you love to listen to the full-length podcast, we put that segment at the end of the Sunday night live show. So, like, nine-tenths of the show was live, and the last segment was prerecorded. And for some reason, there's a portion of our live chat that goes completely psychotic any time anything's prerecorded. You guys are going to have to get over it, because, Jesse, I saw the numbers. You saw the numbers. You saw the numbers. And we are clickbait paid as a business, as a company. That's what we are. And so, I think we're going to continue that. But, yeah, we're live. We're live, pal. We're live. We'll do it live. I can't believe I'm going to lead the show with this, but I'm going to lead the show with this. So, in the preseason, I bravely, the year after I put DJ Lagway number one, chose to continue doing my preseason SEC quarterback rankings. Everyone I respect advised me not to do it. Some people I don't respect. Advise me not to do it. And I looked at all of them, and I remembered what Meemaw said. If you have a good idea, the worst thing you can do is ask a lot of people for their feedback. So, I just plugged my ears, said, la, la, la, can't hear you, and I put them out. And wouldn't you know it, four weeks into the season, I want a redo. Some things have changed. So, I don't think we need to go down the rabbit hole of reminding everyone what happened last year. Last year was a disaster, and I would challenge you, if you've been making fun of me, and I've seen several of you who have, whomst amongst us nailed last year's predictions? Whomst amongst us nailed the teams or the quarterbacks? I know I didn't, and I don't think many other people did. Now, as it relates to this year, were there people, Jesse, did you see people that didn't have Arch Manning top six? I don't know. Maybe some haters did, but I don't know that it was justified. So, I'm looking at it now. We've got about a month's worth of sample size under our belts. I think we've got to make some pretty major changes. And I'm just going to count them down. I tweeted this out earlier today, and I haven't changed my mind since then. So, Jared Curtis at Vanderbilt, I've got as the number 10 quarterback in the SEC right now. He's showing indicators, you know, like a little green arrow pointing up indicators. Now, the sample size is limited, and I'm going to grant you that, but he's done, I think, the most with the least, certainly out of any of the remaining guys. Like, you'll see who I have one through nine in a second, but when you're getting down into the bottom, bottom half of the league, nobody's lit the world on fire. So, I'm going to take a guy who has shown flashes and done it with much less around him than other guys, and it's a very unbalanced offense. He has been the whole show. Like, they haven't gotten going on a number of fronts, but Jared Curtis looks like he's the real deal, and he's the full-time starter there now. He didn't start the season starting, so certainly he wasn't even on the radar. So, I'm going to take Curtis at 10. I'm putting Arch Manning at number nine. I struggled with this. Like, I've got to put Arch Manning at number nine. When you get past the come-from-behind win against Ohio State, and really just like the last quarter against Ohio State, and I don't look past that, I'm baking that in to this ranking is what I'm trying to say. Because if we didn't have that, he wouldn't be a top-ten quarterback in this league right now. There's not much there, guys. There's not a whole lot to hang your hat on. The comeback against Ohio State was awesome, but it was very, very much backyard, playground, which is great. But once you've seen them before that game, during that game, but especially after that game, more in the structure of the offense, it's like he's averaged under 200 yards per game. He's taken sacks. There's just not a whole lot there. Not terrible. I'm not saying he's been terrible. There's just not like, there's not a whole lot there to vault him up above these other players. And I, as of last week, I said during the preview for the Tennessee game, I'm just going to kind of choose to think of them as a defensive-minded team. A defensive-oriented team. And when you have Relique Brown and Hollywood Smothers win their healthy, maybe they can run the ball to win games if they need to, but I'm not counting on him to light it up. So he's not disappointing me. At this point, I'm kind of getting what I expect from him. Number eight quarterback in the SEC. Could I sell you on Kenny Menchie? Kentucky's quarterback. I've got Menchie at number eight. He's shown pretty steady improvement. He's got a sky-high completion percentage. Eight touchdowns, one pick. What I love about him, in an absence of other guys just kind of taking these spots by the throat, is he protects the ball. Like, he doesn't turn the ball over. He doesn't make the mistakes in a lot of cases that you would expect younger guys to make. And he may be higher than this in November. Remember, he's still new in this system. He's still new as a starter. So I think that there is still a long way to go up for him, but I'd already put him at number eight. I put Sam Levitt here. I put him at number eight. Sam Levitt is one of the streakiest players in the country out of, you know, the contending teams, at least. He threw it well last week, ironically, when he wasn't able to run a whole lot. He threw it well last week. We obviously saw him against Clemson in week one, just kind of do whatever they wanted to offensively against the Tigers. The decision-making has been very spotty. He has been a very streaky player. That's kind of been the M.O. on him. That shouldn't shock anyone. Like, I'm sure when Lane and those guys looked at taking him, and then they got him, guarantee you he's shown flashes in practice, but he's shown down points in practice just like we've seen during games. They're probably not surprised by that. He's the ultimate if-when player. If he's at his best, if he has a stretch in a game where he plays his A- or better level football, he can take over a game. He can also cost you a game. So I think this is properly placed for Sam Levitt at seven. This is where it gets interesting. So number six, I will right now put Aaron Philo in this spot at Florida. Jesse, did we think we would be saying this? Actually, you were pretty high on Florida. It's the one thing you've hit so far this year. Missed on Rutgers over USC, but hit on. Did you pick Penn State to win the Big Ten? Yeah, let's just pretend Jesse picked Penn State to win the Big Ten too. But Jesse did swear by Florida. Did you swear by Aaron Philo? Yeah, iffy. Okay, so Aaron Philo may have even overachieved so far relative to Gator Jesse's standards. You know what he's doing? His job. That's what he's doing. He's playing within the system. He's good for a few explosives per game, and then someone's going to call him a skill position merchant, you know, because that's like a slight that people throw around. Now, what all that quarterback does is get really good receivers the ball. Dude, the audacity. Oh, terrible. The quarterbacks I like are the ones who play with a lot of confidence. I like the ones who play with really good skill threats and don't get them the ball. They find ways to score other than handing the ball off to Jaden Ball or getting it to really, really good guys out wide. Those are the quarterbacks I love, but that's not Aaron Philo, unfortunately. So he's all the way down at number six. He protects the ball well, too. He's still new. Obviously, like a lot of these guys, it's third of the way through the season. You're going to see him in pressure spots, but I don't know what's going to happen in the future. So this is the here and now. I'm putting Gunnar Stockton at number five. High percentage passer. He adds a ton of value in the run game. Obviously, in some of these bigger games where they feel it's worth it to, you know, factor in that QB run as part of the offensive game plan, that's there more so than some games where they know they probably don't need that. Not a game breaker. Does not have to be a game breaker. He's a known commodity. So this is kind of around the area that we had Gunnar Stockton before the season. Haven't changed my mind a whole lot on that. These next spots are where I have changed my mind. I would put Austin Simmons of Missouri all the way up at number four. So Austin Simmons has been a really good player this year. Eleven touchdowns, no interceptions. He slung it against Mississippi State, albeit in a loss. But that was a great game. You had a couple of quarterbacks that are high level right now dueling it out. He doesn't take many sacks. I think about one per game. The accuracy could be better. He doesn't take much of a threat running the ball. He's not like an excellent off script guy. He can be good there, but that's what separates him from like Trinidad Chambliss or Camario Taylor. Austin Simmons is not that. But what he can do is he can stand in the pocket and he can pick you apart. So I would put him all the way up at number four right now. Number three is Keelan Russell at Alabama. All these folks hated on us, Jesse, for having John Mateer a little bit too high up in the high fair. I did have him too high, but no one gave credit for having Keelan Russell number six in the preseason. And it turns out we were too low on him. Got him number three. I'll be honest with you. A month from now, Keelan Russell could be number one in this league. He could also drop to like five or six. So we're at that point where we're either going to find out he is just a bona fide stud, one of the best in the country, or the league adjusts to him a little bit. It's experiencing. I tend to lean towards the former rather than the latter. Because if you've watched him, there's not an illusion. It's not a mirage. He's got superstar qualities about him. The RPO game continues to tick up week over week. He's a factor with his legs. He's one of the fastest players they have. Armed talent off the charts. It's kind of a weird situation because they lost a first round draft pick at quarterback and upgraded at quarterback. Just weird. Doesn't happen normally in college. So the poise for a first year starter is there. I'd put him all the way up at number three. I'd put Kamario Taylor at number two. Those dudes are going to be on the field at the same time this Saturday in Starkville, Mississippi. Technically not at the same time, but you get what I'm talking about. So he, I would give the edge to over Keelan Russell because he's done it with lesser talent around him. All due respect to Mississippi State. He doesn't have Ryan Coleman, Williams, and those kinds of guys around him, but he's still had three plus touchdown passes in every game. Precision off the charts. Deep ball, whatever is beyond the deep ball, that's off the charts. The off script stuff is off the charts. The leadership piece is off the charts. Dare I say the loyalty piece is off the charts. So he's been the story of college football to me so far this year. I'd put Kamario Taylor at number two and I'd put Trinidad Chambliss at number one. It turns out, we could have saved ourselves a lot of time if we just understood the Magnolia State runs the SEC. I don't really know what I need to say about Trinidad Chambliss. Still a freak. Even without a run game, he can still keep you in games. Did pure hero stuff against LSU. That Florida game got away from him. And even with that, he's still number one in the SEC to me. So there you go. I'm sure that, uh, you know, that that'll be picked apart. I mean, like for instance, someone said, it's insane to have Gunnar Stockton at five. And I responded, where would you have him? I didn't get a response. Like if you think he belongs at four or six, okay. How are we more than two spots off on Gunnar Stockton? My point being, we pulled this week out of the fire. Now, we got some weeks coming up with like 10 different marquee matchups. This didn't look like it was going to be one of them. And now, voila, as college football often does, it delivers. So let's start in Starkville. Alabama at Mississippi State Saturday noon kickoff, 11 local time on ABC. This game's for you. It's presented by Factor. And Jesse, this game could cook. And, and, I they're clapping for me. That's why I'm pausing here because I really do enjoy applause. And this is the number three versus number four quarterbacks players overall in the Heisman odds at FanDuel right now. These are commissioner's poll top 10 teams. The AP famously, infamously still has Mississippi State outside the top 10. I hold in my hand the weather forecast for Starkville, Mississippi on Saturday. Gross in all caps. I don't really think I need to go into any further detail, but it could be disgusting. It could be filthy. It could be nasty. We could be looking at ponding on the field. Like it could be, it could be really, really terrible, or it could be totally dry. Maybe we'll get ourselves a dry slot. Both teams have come from behind this year already. We've seen Bama trail a couple of times. No problem. We saw, I mean, we saw Mississippi State get a lead. Give up the lead, take the lead back last week. We saw him trail 16 to nothing on the road at South Carolina. So they've already kind of been through the fire, both of them. So first question here, can I trust Mississippi State to affect Keelan Russell? Because you need to watch about three and a half minutes of the South Carolina film from last week to understand if we give him time, we will get shredded. And to Bama offensive line credit, they gave him time last week and that South Carolina secondary has still not mentally recovered, just shredded them. So that's a non-negotiable. Alabama's pass pro has been pretty good. I mean, their offensive line's probably overachieved relative to expectation. I kind of thought it would be a work in progress and I'm not saying it's like a top five unit yet, but that's been a net strength of the team so far along with that tight end group. And I'm not quite convinced that they're going to be able to do that. So I'm going to have to wait and see what happens. Zach Arnett, different looks, confusion. You got to come at him from different angles. You got to impact him early. You cannot be letting him get in a rhythm early. And it's really, really important for Mississippi State, I think on the other side, to maintain speed as a weapon offensively. So they have got fast receivers. There's a lot of speed Mississippi State has at receiver. And I would imagine on a total dry track, they're going to be able to do that. So I'm going to have to wait and see if they can do that. I'm going to have to wait and see if they can do that. They'd probably love their matchups. You'll get in isolation. Like I guarantee you, they watched Dijon Lee play so far this year and thought we could do some business there. They may even look at those safeties, veteran as they may be and say, man, if we can get one-on-ones there, I love our odds. I don't know what the weather conditions are going to dictate there, but it could show up the classical way, just traditional route running, or it could be on broken plays, finding a guy who gets open tons of yard after catch opportunities. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't I think the pre-padlock stat in this game, in fact, let's just pop the paper proactively. I think explosive pass plays, if you were to be able to tell me that, I would be able to very, very much guess where this game's going. Both these offenses are top 20 in that category. And conversely, Mississippi State defensively, 82nd in that category. Bama defensively is 116th in that category, which I'm not going to call it anomalous, but I will call it a surprise because we come into the season thinking secondary is going to be a major strength there. I still think that Alabama's secondary can be a strength of that team, but that number does not lend me or maybe the college football public to believing it's going that way. Another really big key here, specifically Kamario Taylor, on third down, you would think Bama's got the line of scrimmage edge in this game. So the way that you counter that is you go like eight of 13 on third down. And it would really help if Fluff Bothwell in that run game keeps you on schedule. Like he's had, what's the number, Jesse? 116. He's averaged on the ground against power four competition. He's had at least that. If it's a bunch of third and twos, great. But even if it's a bunch of third and five pluses, they've really got to tilt third down to their advantage. Because at that point, even if it's not a scoring drive, if you just keep those drives and then you've got a plays run advantage over Bama in the second half, and then home field really, really starts to matter because it's a one possession game either way, that's a difference maker. I'm really interested also to see if there's like, we need to come up with a fancy acronym for this, but like a strength of schedule truth teller kind of moment in this game. Because so far this year, I've been impressed with both teams. But if you were to try and take the other side of this debate, if you were of the opinion that Alabama or Mississippi State's overrated, what you would say is you would say, okay, Mississippi State, they're undefeated, but what have they done? They've beaten Minnesota. I don't think much of Minnesota. South Carolina, it turns out they're terrible. Missouri never punches up. So let's see them against Alabama. You could say that. Or you could look at Bama, and you could say, oh, Bama's undefeated. What a shocker against Kentucky and Florida State and South Carolina. Who have they really played? Which of those three teams are we going to look back on in November and say, wow, that was an impressive win? Point being, it is technically possible one or both of these teams are somewhat of a mirage because they hadn't been put through the fire. It just so happens they're playing each other. So it could be that they're both totally validated in their ranking, and they just go toe-to-toe, and it's a four-quarter war. But sometimes when these games happen, it's like 38 to 17, and you find out, well, one of them was the real deal. The other one was just a product of an inferior schedule that they got fat on so far. It's hard to see that coming, is the point. Let's take a look at what the model thinks here. FanDuel's got Alabama minus five and a half. The total on the game, Jesse, I'm not going to move on the total, but it's 60 and a half. I would highly suspect that to come down if you're interested in that number once the general public realizes what the weather situation is going to be here, because I don't think that forecast is going to change. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think that forecast is going to change. So I'm going to tell you what I think the difference is going to be. Wet or dry forecast. Alabama's tight end room has been insane so far this year, and I trust them, road or home, and I trust them in a game like this, because I don't think Alabama is just going to pound away on the ground, but I do think over four quarters, a combination of that tight end room getting involved there, and that tight end room getting involved in the pass-catching department. Every so often, I actually think that'll be the difference here. Not a blowout, not anything like that. Four-quarter game, I'm going to lean Alabama to cover that five and a half. For the record, Model kind of low-key disagrees with that. Model's got Bama minus four, but the Model's been off on Alabama so far this year, so I think it's kind of underselling them. So I'm going to go Bama minus four, and I'm going to go the other way. I'm going to go Bama minus five and a half. So Model disagreement, Jesse. What was I against the Model last year? Makes me wonder. I will tell you this, though. There is some other news about this game, and that news is I am going to this game. I cannot let this game happen and not be there. So we're going to be at Virginia Tech Friday night, but by Saturday morning at 11 a.m., we'll be on the sideline in Starkville, Mississippi. I heard some other notable dignitaries are going to make their way to Starkville, and I want to be not a notable dignitary. I'm just me. I'm just me in a white t-shirt, but I want to be there. So let the people know. Actually, we already have. Looking forward to that. Prez, you never been to Mississippi? First time for everything Saturday. Pack a poncho, buddy. All right, let's move on. Ohio State at Iowa. All of a sudden, college game day in town, the 3.30 Eastern kickoff on CBS. It's the FanDuel game of the week. My goodness, we didn't have this game circled two weeks ago. And now, not only is the game circled, not only is it getting the national spotlight, I am giving a warning about this game, Jesse. Yes, I'm giving a warning. A paper popper of a warning. Here's what I wrote. A lot of irrelevant stuff is about to be floating about. That's what I wrote. What do I mean by that? Well, this is Tuesday. At least 100 more times this week, someone is going to stop you on the street. And tell you, the last time these teams played at Iowa, the final score was 55-24 Hawkeyes. Some would call them the Hawks. Nate Stanley, QB for Iowa. 20-31 that evening. 226 through the air, five touchdowns. They're going to tell you that. And I'm going to tell you it is totally irrelevant to Saturday for many different reasons. I always thought it should be a myriad of reasons, but apparently it's just myriad reasons. There's some stuff that's technically grammatically right, but it's stupid. So, you know, that's why we make up words around here all the time. You think Chalai is grammatically correct? No. Do we care? Also no. So anyway, this is from the Pate State Something Has to Give department here. Iowa has allowed 608 receiving yards this year, and Jeremiah Smith has 617 by year. I was heavily criticized for not pointing out that Jeremiah Smith went TVMA mode on Illinois State. secondary Sunday. So, late news here. Jeremiah Smith had a really good Saturday. And, breaking news, Jeremiah Smith's about to have another really good Saturday. So, get ready for that because I went back in the archives, Jesse, and it turns out Michigan had two different 100-yard receivers against Iowa. All due respect to Michigan, I don't think they have a guy like that. I don't think they have two guys combined that are like this. So, Jeremiah Smith don't really care how much attention they pay to him. He's going to go off against Iowa. That's part one. Part two is that's not a fun preview. So, if the line here is Ohio State minus 13 and a half, what we want to know is are we wasting our time breaking this game down or is there a path for Iowa? Well, in the interest of fairness and respect, let's paint the path for Iowa. How would this happen? It's happened before. Obviously, it's happened before. Defensive points, probably. Owning the red zone. You know, Ohio State getting down there a lot, settling for three or maybe a turnover or two. Obviously, the turnover factor. I think the second thing is self-explanatory. The way you own the red zone is owning the red zone. But the first part is how do you force the turnovers? How do you score defensively? Well, you got to get after Julian Sayen, obviously, and you got to look at last year's numbers. This stat kept floating around in the playoffs and with good reason because in a clean pocket last year, it was a clean pocket. It was a clean pocket. Last year, he's 82% completion. He's 25-4, touchdown to INT. When you muddied the pocket up a little bit, he dropped under 60% completion, seven touchdowns, three picks, 17 sacks. Now, you may think to yourself, self, that sounds like something Iowa can do. I don't know if they can. In fact, I'm going to go a step further. This is why I lean so heavily Ohio State in this game. I think Jeremiah Smith's going to go off. I don't think Iowa can get, I don't think they can get after the way that you would expect a vintage Iowa team to do it. Because here's a little secret about Iowa. They're not what they've been defensively this year. I could see them putting that in a hype video. I like, but they're not. Are they? Maybe Joey McGraw will call us out for this too, but they're not. They just haven't been so far. They haven't gotten pressure on anyone yet. And it's possible that they run the ball successfully. It's possible that that Ohio State front is off its vintage pace as well. And maybe Iowa does the thing where it's first and 10, second five, third and two, fourth and one, move the chains. Man, this clock's melting. Man, we only had four possessions in the first half. Where's the time gone? Yeah, they could do that. But will they do that? I mean, Iowa, I don't know. Last week's game, you could say it was a vintage Iowa game. It kind of wasn't. It was a weird one where the box score didn't match up the final score, but the blueprint was not the usual Iowa blueprint. So I mean, Illinois had 200 last week. Well, they have 200 on the ground last week. Yeah. So maybe, maybe they just run the ball all afternoon, but Iowa had 131 total versus Iowa State and Michigan. So the defensive pressure that they normally gets not there. The run game Iowa has has not been there. And for those reasons, let's take a look at what the model thinks. FanDuel's got this thing. Ohio State minus 13 and a half. Model thinks it's right. We got Ohio State minus 14. I think they're going to win the game comfortably. So I'll take Ohio State to win, and I will lay the 13 and a half. Wouldn't surprise me if we add that on Friday night lines, if it doesn't cross 14 by then. Crazier things have happened. And if you want to know the difference, go back to a previous show. I can't waste three minutes doing this every week, but short version. Favored against two on a neutral field. The end. That's it. Don't care about anything else. You could be 0 and 12. If the model has you favored against the 12 and 0 team, you'll be above that 12 and 0 team. Do we mean that this should be how the playoff rankings look? No. Is this how we would rank teams if we were an AP voter? No. Have we been clear? Okay. This is insane. The model has Oklahoma at 16. I hardcore disagree with the model. So much of you, many of you, rather, pushed back on OU at 16. I'm going to save you time. You're right. The model is drunk on having Oklahoma at 16 full stop. There are several teams listed behind them that I think should be favored on a neutral field. There is a new top team in the Big 12. This is the first time this year, I believe. Brigham Young is 12th. Texas Tech is 14th. That means for the first time, the old model here would actually favor a team in the Big 12, on a neutral field, over Texas Tech. Let's see if that holds, because you'll notice Utah's down there at 18, so they're not too far behind either. There are, I think, a couple of more teams in the 26 to 30 range. I think Baylor and Arizona State were down there. So let's keep an eye on the Big 12. Also, Texas A&M, no longer in the top 25, has had eight points deducted off their power rating so far this year. If you consider that they haven't had quarterback injury, which normally is what accounts for that big a point deduction, that's insane. They were so far off. The model was so far off, but FanDuel would have agreed with it. So the market was just so far off on Texas A&M. Quickly, before I get into some feedback, the gap between 12 and 37 points. So there is negligible difference between these teams. The gap between number one and number 12, so the gap between Ohio State and Brigham Young, is 10 points. It is a whole new world right now. So these October, November sort of stretch run games, anything and everything is in play. Okay, let's look at some of the feedback. Worst part of my week. JoJo hit us, and I'm not even going to acknowledge the Photoshop here. Danny DeVito has nothing to do with this show. This is not a Jersey Mike's. He said, after the diatribe on Sunday night regarding Indiana, why do you still have them so high? Well, JoJo Price Monkey, I will tell you why I still have them. It was the guy's last name. I didn't make it up. That's what it said. Twitter never lies. Why did I go on a diatribe about Indiana being ranked too high, but yet the model still has them at seven? Let me speak slowly, out of respect, not out of sarcasm. These are not rankings, so that's why. So I don't think Indiana has done anything on their resume to warrant being ranked number six or seven or wherever they were. Power ratings have nothing to do with that. They could have played three high school teams from rural Indiana, and they'd still be right there in the model, because it's all about predictive favorability on a neutral field. So one of those things is not like the other. Someone said, explain yourself, in all caps, in the live chat. I just did. Next up, this is my favorite part, because this is where we just straight up dunk on people with evidence. Derek Butts said, I'm an LSU fan, but us being favored against Florida on a neutral site is insane. You may think it's insane, but I'm telling you it's real. You know how I know it's real? Not only has LSU above Florida, but we hit FanDuel Mike up within the last hour, didn't we, Jesse? And we said, FanDuel Mike, you guys literally set the numbers at FanDuel. Need you to kick me a hypothetical. LSU Florida, neutral field, tomorrow. You guys have to set the line. What would it be? LSU minus one and a half. Now, Derek, if you would look at that and think this is insane, I'm betting Florida. You have full constitutional right to do that. I'm not telling you who you'd bet or who you think would win. I'm telling you who'd be favored. And FanDuel agrees with the model there. And I'm going to tell you another combo of teams that FanDuel agrees on. Hit me with that Notre Dame, Texas vent. Hit me and said, explain to me how on a neutral field, Notre Dame's favored to beat Texas, who's proven they're good by beating Ohio State, your number one power rated team, and Tennessee, your number 13 power rated team. Is it solely eye test? If so, what's the point of playing Ohio State? What is Notre Dame done? Well, the point of playing Ohio State was to play a game. Leave that up for a second, Bradley. In fact, because there were several points there that I wanted to get to. Yeah, they beat Ohio State. That's great for them. That's why they're ranked number one, because they beat them. Yeah, they just went to Tennessee and won. They beat them, and that's why they're ranked number one. So they're getting all of their just, in the world of rankings. This is not that. So the model. is looking at all that and saying, not, oh, you deserve to be ranked number one because you won games. What the model would be looking at, just like what an odds maker would be looking at, is deviation from expectation. Follow me. This is pretty simple, really. Texas played Ohio State. Texas was favored by one and a half in the game. They won by one point. So the outcome was right on the nose. So to a predictive model, it looks at that and says, we had both these teams nailed. Then we move on. Texas is favored by five and a half at Tennessee. Texas wins by three. So a predictive model would look and say, largely what we expected. Maybe we back off on Texas fractions of a point, but there's a third element there. And that element is, whatever value you had placed on Arch Manning at quarterback, you have to have backed off on that a little bit. So believe it or not, even as Texas's resume is flawless, a predictive model would have probably deflated on Texas just a tad. You're right. Notre Dame hasn't played anybody, but Notre Dame relative to expectation has delivered and they've, they've pretty much body bag teams, but they've largely delivered. So we hit up FanDuel. We said, Notre Dame, Texas right now, they play neutral field. What's the line? Notre Dame minus one would be the line. So, I mean, they're, they're viewed very comparably, just like the model views them very comparably, but we're not wrong on this. If you think the final would be 30 to three, Texas, cool. I'm just telling you who'd be favored. There was one bit of feedback I couldn't really argue with though, because this is more high level intellect type stuff. This is a big brain comment. Bram for Braves hit me and said, dog, Penn State sucks. Missouri is trash. Michigan is an actual joke. Two losses, by the way, Louisville and SMU are eh, get a grip loser. What do I say? Other than I'll just pick up the pieces of my broken life and try again next week. Loser, Jesse, get a grip loser. You think that guy has a model? What do you think his model says right now? Also, I really, what I enjoy anytime you put rankings out of anything, it's like people will say so-and-so is overrated. So-and-so doesn't belong, but they never say who should be there instead. Because I'll look at this stuff when the model first pumps out its results every week. Maybe I'll look and I'll say, man, Missouri shouldn't be 23. But then there is a second part of me. It's called coherence. And it says, okay, but you got a backfill. There's got to be someone behind them that from a value proposition standpoint belongs above them. And oftentimes what you find is the model, already thought ahead and it realized, yeah, they may be shaky, but there's no one behind them that's less shaky. So there you go. It's a new, it's a very important exercise every single week. Sorry. I was looking for my lip balm. The good news is the temperatures have dropped. The bad news is the dew point has dropped, which I guess in and of itself is also good news, except that means I got to do the old BHLs, the old butthole lips on, on air a couple of times a night. Cause you got to pucker to put on the chapstick. I will never forget that. But you got to wonder if Virginia Tech's numbers verify here. So they are top five in sacks per game so far this year. They're very aggressive. They're willing to roll the dice. Brent Pryor is willing to take chances. I do believe on the other side in the pit run defense. Ethan Grunkemeyer, quarterback, was at Penn State with Franklin. Now he's at Virginia Tech. He's thrown the ball 35 or more times in each of their last three games. So balance, I guess it'd be nice. Everyone wants to have balance. Everyone wants to be able to run the ball. It's not the end of the world if Virginia Tech can't run the ball. Only because I think they're kind of resigned to sort of what they've got to be identity-wise, offensively. But you know what this is, Jesse? This is Lane Stadium at night. This is Blacksburg, Virginia on a Friday night with the whole world watching. And Pitt is already 131st in the country in penalties. This place can rattle even the best. But if you're already shaky, we could have lug nuts coming off all over the place. We could have screws loose. It could get ugly, Jesse. Virginia Tech feels more dependable to me right now. So let's take a look at what the model thinks. FanDuel's got Virginia Tech minus three and a half. The model thinks the wrong team is favored. And I'm here to tell you the model's wrong. And I'm right. And I am telling you Virginia Tech is wrong. Virginia Tech will win this game. And I will also take Virginia Tech to cover because only a madman would take Virginia Tech to win but Pitt to cover with a line at three and a half. Virginia Tech walk-off field goal incoming. Saturday, 3.30 Eastern kick on ABC. This game is fueled by Quick Trip, not just presented by, but fueled and caffeinated by Quick Trip. Dynamics alert on this game. Dynamics. Old-fashioned dynamics. You know, you've heard of the dynamics. You've heard of being due down. You've heard of a letdown spot. For instance, Ole Miss was famously in a letdown spot last week and it showed. Or maybe Florida's just that good. So this week what we have, and I want John Summerall to pay attention to every word that comes out of my mouth. We've got a letdown situation for Florida. We've got a situation where I don't know how much I can trust them. I don't know how dependable they're going to be. I don't know how, competitively mature this team is. Here's what I do know. When you are in a letdown spot and you got to go on the road to face a team in wounded animal mode, like Missouri is, after they came from behind and then squandered a lead late and acted like they had never played 11-on-11 football in the final minute of the game, crazy things can happen. So Florida, back-to-back ranked wins. When's the last time it happened, do you think? All the way back in 2000, 2008. So we're trying to make history, kind of, in the semi-modern era. Florida's offense is real. So if you're watching these Florida games saying, oh man, eventually it'll bog down. No, it won't. They've scored 40-plus in all four games. They're 11th in rush yards per game. They're 18th in explosive passes. Even when the competition ramps up, it's not like they're going to just get stonewalled. Now, the one thing we haven't seen is we hadn't seen Aaron Filo have to play in what I call trails. Which is just play from behind. Someone gets such margin on you that you can't keep handing the ball to Jaden Ball. Now, that's like three-score lead type stuff. So yeah, I mean, if Missouri wants to pull that off, okay. But I'm thinking more late in games. I'm thinking more somehow, some way, someone's limited Florida's run game on the ground and they're trailing and it really is on Aaron Filo to get it done. Maybe he can. Not that I'm questioning or I'm doubting that he can. I'm saying quite literally we haven't seen him have to do it yet. So I'm still waiting to see that and I would imagine that Missouri looks at this game and says, okay, here's what we can't let happen. We can't let that running back carry it for 220 yards on us. Like, if we're going to get beat, can we please at least make them execute through the air to do it? And they may. They may very well do it. But we know that we're going to if the ball doesn't even need to leave the quarterback's hands through the air and Jaden Ball is going to carry it for 25 times for six and a half per clip. Game's over. So I don't know what them selling out to stop the run looks like, but I would imagine they will sell out at least somewhat to stop the run. Because you look back at the Ole Miss game last week, you got to wonder, in retrospect, it's so easy to ask these sorts of questions. But that first drive, Ole Miss ran the ball four times, turnover on downs. The next drive, pass and pass, first drive, turnover on downs. The next drive, pass and pass, turnover on downs. The next drive, and then run, run, run, punt. And by that point, you're already down two scores. You're down early. You never recover. And I think a fast start is so imperative for Missouri here. Now, they got down last week and came from behind. I don't know that if Florida gets you down, they're going to sit there and wait on you to catch up. They'll just keep scoring on you. And Austin Simmons is a weapon. And Florida's biggest question is their secondary. You got to go score and you got to get the fight to them. However it needs to happen, you got to take the fight to them. 17 FBS players, this is a paper popper actually, 17 FBS players have 300 plus receiving yards and four plus touchdowns. 17 of them in all of FBS, 300 plus and four plus. Missouri has two of those players per ESPN research. So let's use them. That's my strategy, Jesse. Let's use them. The start is very important for Florida. It's very important for Florida. It's everything for Missouri. I turn on this thing and it's 10-0 Florida. Missouri's in trouble. 10-0 Missouri, it's a good start. Things could still change, but Missouri, it's way, way, way more important I think for them to start early here. They've got to eventually punch up in one of these games. Like Eli Drinkwitz in Missouri eventually have to be an underdog to a highly ranked team and win the game, don't they? Eventually it's got to happen. Let's take a look at this. I'm going to take a look at this. The total in this game is 56 and a half. And just like we did last week with Florida Ole Miss, I am pounding that over and we're adding it as a Ramen Noodle Express best bet right here in the game preview, Jesse. I'll do it at the end of the show too. Look at how much I circled it. Over 56 and a half. Weather should not be an issue here. So even if it was, frankly, I wouldn't care. So to go win, fine. Just win 41-30 or something like that. But I'm going to actually 41-38 so Missouri can cover. Let's be charitable here. Missouri plus four and a half. Yeah, technically, but I'm going over as my big lean there. They're watching us in Naples, Florida, Hickory, North Carolina, Frisco, Texas. Thank you so, so much. So earlier today, I asked the world, world, what are the biggest college football overreactions so far this year? Now, before I show you what you said, I've got one I want to address because there are a lot of people questioning Mike Elko right now in Texas A&M. Season hasn't gotten started the way you wanted it to. Quarterback, if anything, has regressed. You look at the new coordinators and you're saying, man, we feel off and this feels down a notch and I agree with you on all fronts and the offensive line hasn't clicked and can't run the ball in a dominant fashion. And that I can't argue with. What I can argue with is even a minority of people saying, well, that must mean Mike Elko is not the right guy for this job or, you know, even Googling what his buyout is, any of that foolishness. Mike Elko is a really, really good football. And Mike Elko is unequivocally the right head coach for Texas A&M. Here's the problem. The problem is it's 2026 and we are in an era where elite depth really doesn't exist anymore. And you have to bake in the possibility, as unpopular as this is to say, that you could just have a dead year every now and then. If you don't have quarterback nailed down or if you just, if you didn't nail your portal transactions, this is what can happen. It doesn't mean a guy all of a sudden forgot how to coach. It doesn't mean he forgot how to evaluate. It just means he's not perfect. And it may mean his front office is not perfect, or it may mean they need to tweak this, or they may need to adjust that, or they may need to point the compass 20 degrees this way, philosophically, whatever. But Mike Elko is a really, really good coach. You fire him today, he's hired in two nanoseconds somewhere else. So, that to me is a big overreaction. Mike Elko's got to go. I'll tell you who's probably saying that, folks who pull against Texas A&M. I'd love, if I didn't like A&M, I'd love to see him fire Mike Elko. Be my guest. Go for it. Let me ask you this. Mike Elko's got Keelan Russell right now. What do you think Texas A&M looks like? Mike Elko's got Kamario Taylor right now. They don't have a quarterback. It's really that simple. You don't have a quarterback, you don't have a season. So, my guess is a year from now, Texas A&M will have a quarterback. Wherever they got to go to get them, however much they got to pay to get them. They'll have a quarterback next year, and shockingly, they'll be a much more competitive team. And it'll be Mike Elko as the head coach still. Next up, overreaction up in State College, Pennsylvania. Penn State is done. That's an overreaction, he says. And I agree. Penn State's not done. Now, Penn State's got a travel on short rest this week. You gonna be all right, Jesse? You gonna be okay? Jesse's spending Friday in Blacksburg with his heart in what, Evanston, Illinois? Isn't that where Northwestern is? Chicago. It's Chicago. I'm nervous for you. Two and a half points. Isn't that what Penn State's favored by right now? But yeah, Penn State's not done. Here's the problem, though. They've already got a loss. And remember, the heat wasn't really supposed to kick up until October 10th. Jesse, is the Wisconsin game gonna end up being tougher than the USC game? Some people are talking. Penn State's, but they are in a situation right now where they have no more margin for error. But even if they go 8-4 this year, what happens? Well, what happens is the first year under Matt Campbell wasn't great. The end. He's not done. They're not done. Next up, this is a fun one because we already know how it ends. You remember last week, Brandon mentioned this one. He said one of the big overreactions so far is when oddsmakers were claiming, or when people were claiming oddsmakers were on drugs for making Florida the favorite over Ole Miss. Yes. Yes, it's been less than a week ago where everyone looked at Florida favored over Ole Miss and said, what? And then Vegas said, yep, we're not moving it an inch. You go ahead. Bet whatever you want to bet. And then Florida splattered Ole Miss all over the swamp. Could have been a Sarah McLachlan special if Maryland didn't exist. Yeah, that was a fun one. This next one feels personal, Jesse. Do we want to put this in the show? Is this what we want college football to be? I guess so. An overreaction, apparently just John Mateer stock. That's all it says. They tagged me for some reason. You know what happened the other day? Freezing cold takes came after me and they sent us a book recently. I thought we were friends. Freezing cold takes came after me because they screenshot, past tense of screenshot, that thing, that picture of me from last year when I had bet $20 on Mateer in the preseason on a Heisman ticket when he was in like the teens or twenties. And at the time I posted it, I said, man, it feels good to have John Mateer Heisman stock or something. He was fifth in the odds. It was a year ago. Well, then the other day he scores like four touchdowns for Georgia single-handedly. And then they chose that point to post a year old screenshot. And I don't think it was nice. And I don't even think it was funny. I don't, I really don't. And I laugh at freezing cold takes a lot, but that one was dumb, but I can't let people know it got under my skin or they'll pray on it. They'll weaponize it. They'll come after me. They'll play mind games with me. And that's not what we want. That's not what we want to use this platform for. Yes. In retrospect, maybe I overreacted a little bit to John Mateer's front squat. I care. I want the best for these young men. Sue me. Honestly, I was trying to have a little fun with it, but I did think Mateer was going to be better than he is this year. I think everyone did. I think Texas fans thought John Mateer was going to be better than he is this year. And lastly, an overreaction is the entire big 10. You had a few years, but the SEC is back on top now. Now is Jesse, correct me if I'm wrong, even though I created this video, but I think Jesse did this segment. Is he saying people who are claiming the SEC is back on top are overreacting or is he himself saying big 10 hype is the overreaction and the reality is the SEC is back on top? Well, if you believe after what you've seen so far this year, that the SEC is back on top of college football, I just got to ask you using what standard we need to figure this out on September 29th. Cause by my estimation, until someone proves otherwise, I think Ohio state's better than any team in the SEC right now. Just if they played, I'm telling you, that's who I'd pick Josh. They already played an SEC team. I know, I know in Ohio state lost by one in their building. I know, but see down the road when these hypothetical matchups would happen, they would happen on a neutral field. So I think Ohio state is who I would pick, but, but we gotta, we gotta figure out, are we saying that the SEC has more depth? Are we doing that again? Or are we saying they're legit about to win a national title? I'm asking you, I'm asking you cause I think the SEC is, is been incredible to watch this year so far. Do we know that it has elevated as a conference? I think quarterback play in the league's insane right now. So that's why I think it's probably elevated as a conference, but they're all going to play each other. Not all those quarterbacks are going to make the playoffs. Who knows what Josh Hoover and Kurt Cignetti have rolling by who knows what Dan Lanning has rolling with Dante Moore if slash when he's back Dylan Riola until then and maybe beyond who knows what, what Jesse may get out of Rocco Beck, you know, or someone else.
