I don't know if you saw it last night and it'll be lost to history because Ole Miss won, but did anyone else realize Lane had Pete Golding in one of the classic traps that an old Sage veteran can put a rookie in? We'll talk about it in the show because again, if you win, it doesn't matter what trap you were in. You just kind of turn the trap on your enemy. It's jam-packed tonight. That's what the show is. And last night was just more evidence on that front. What a week three. What a week three. What a week four we have in store. But that's what God invented Tuesday night for. Tonight, we look back. Tons of reaction. The AP poll, if you're wondering what the black plume of smoke is off over the horizon, that's the AP poll derailing. Toxicity everywhere. I'm not going to leave the show with it because it's a poll after all, immunity. But we will discuss it in due time. Thank you. Thank you. Where else to begin? Last night was one of the most historic nights in recent college football history in Oxford, Mississippi. Ole Miss beat LSU 32-24. And ladies and gentlemen, this is worth a paper pop. Five-challi classic. Our first five-challi classic of the year. The game somehow, Jesse, matched the hype. It couldn't have exceeded the hype because the hype was 10 of 10. But so was the game. You had high drama. At least one point in this game, the pucker meter had to be at a 10 for both sides. I was puckered and I had no rooting interest. I picked Ole Miss to win the game, not to pat myself on the back. You can't see it anyway because I'm two-boxed right now. The coaching chess match was phenomenal. Pete Golding just saying, I'm going to go for two. Why? Because I know he's going to go for two if he ends up scoring. That was beautiful. The quarterback play was beautiful, especially by Trinidad Chambliss down the stretch. The football would deliver was my feeling on this game. We talked about this last Tuesday. It was like everyone on the periphery, the drive-by crowd. They were getting a whiff of what we had known for months. That in the college football community was that Lane Kiffin was the coach at Ole Miss and I was the coach at LSU. We all were around in December. We all understood that. This took on a Good Morning America type vibe. You know when you've been privy to something for a while, but it catches in the mainstream. Lane and the Ole Miss dynamic, that caught on in the mainstream last week. That was what the rest of the world was fascinated with. With good reason. I don't blame you. We've been fascinated. But the closer the game got, the more you realized these aren't two 7 and 5 caliber teams. These are two top 10 caliber teams. There's a whole lot of football related matters that should command one's attention. The football. The football. The football. That was what won the night last night. And I think Saturday always delivers for us. But Saturday delivered for a lot of people last night that I guarantee you were watching this game and don't normally watch college football. Welcome, friends. And welcome to the game. So there's a lot to like from Ole Miss. There's one thing to hate from Ole Miss. However, I'm not going to lead with that. I'll talk about it at the very end. There's a ton to like from Ole Miss, like I said. And there was no answer for Trinidad Chambliss. If there was an answer for Trinidad Chambliss, American hero Blake Baker would have found it. And before American hero Blake Baker, noted defensive historian Kirby Smart would have found it. If not the first time when they faced Ole Miss last year, because that was still when Simmons was in play. The second time around in the Sugar Bowl with time to prepare, Kirby Smart would have figured him out. But Georgia didn't figure him out because there's no figuring that guy out when he's hot. So there is a bad luck stat in this game. Bad luck stats for those who are new around here is the opposite of a padlock stat. A padlock stat is the only thing you would have needed to know going into the game to know how the game was going to go. Bad luck stats fool you. They trick you. They deceive you. And if I would have told you that Ole Miss was going to have 25 carries for 63 yards, while LSU had 43 for 172, including four carries of 15 plus, you would have said, congratulations, Lane Kiffin. Let me check the turnover box. But if it's not egregious, congratulations, Lane Kiffin, you just ruined Ole Miss' season. And instead, it's a bad luck stat because Ole Miss won the game anyway. Because Trinidad Chambliss, if you take that pencil and you turn it upside down, it has an eraser on it. And so does Ole Miss at quarterback. The ultimate eraser. Came already in that guy's career with 300 plus passing yards. Jesse, is this right? That ties Eli Manning and Ole Miss history. Eli played for like 90 years there. Trinidad Chambliss is less than, he's about a full year into being the starter there now. And he's already got 10 games with 300 plus passing yards. In structure, out of structure. If you watched the game last night or if you've watched him throughout his career, you kind of know what I'm talking about. But the padlock stat there, another paper popper. Ole Miss was 5 for 5 in the red zone with 32 points. It's kind of the name of the game. Getting opportunities and then cashing them in. A couple of things started to come into focus here. For me, I don't know how you watched this game, but as I was watching this game, a few things started to come into focus. The first one is Ole Miss probably just played the best defensive coordinator on their schedule. Even if you want to debate that, Baker's way up there. And this is what they ended up doing because there's no answer really. And number two is, I think Pete Golding's defense, is still pretty good as well. It kind of confused everyone when Louisville did what they did to him in week one. But it turns out Louisville's pretty good. Turns out maybe Louisville ended up having the best quarterback that Ole Miss has faced so far this year. But I don't want to throw Sam Leavitt under the bus or anything like that. I'm just saying, like, Lincoln Kineholz is a pretty good quarterback. Still waiting on that second point, in other words. But it seems evident that, you know, in the sort of evolutionary early quarterbacks, quarter to third to half of a season in college football, that you get these data points, you know. And you try and cluster them and you try and figure out what a team is. So that was a very valuable data point last night. And once you see Ole Miss go up against Blake Baker, once you see them go up against LSU, it starts to answer one of those questions that we wondered in the spring and summer. Casuals would call that the offseason. But we were here, so there was no offseason. But you remember one of the popular talking points was, What's going to happen now that the league has a season's worth of film on Trinidad Chambliss? The answer is he's going to do the exact same thing he was doing last year because he's a, I'm going to use the T word here, but I mean it in its most real form. He's a more transcendent type player in that he transcends that typical stereotype. The stereotype, and you're seeing it play out around the league a lot, by the way. Marcel Reed, is he continuing to elevate? Lenore Sellers, does it seem like his game is continuing to elevate? No. No, because the traditional sense of this sport is that they watch you and then they adjust to you and they're really good at what they do too, and so you fluctuate. Trinidad Chambliss is not fluctuating. He's just getting better because he's better than the rest of them. He's the best quarterback in the country and quite frankly, if you were going to press me on it, you'd have to come at me with another quarterback in the state of Mississippi because that's about the best other one that I've seen so far this year. Good job on the state of Mississippi at the quarterback position. For the other side, LSU, we knew that there were a few losable games early in the year. I'm going to put the pen down because I don't intend on writing anything. We knew that there were a few losable games to start LSU's season. Clemson game, as it turns out, was not one of those. The Ole Miss game was and they lost it last night and they got another one, believe it or not, coming up this Saturday against A&M. One of my biggest fears with Sam Levitt coming into the year manifested itself last night. My biggest fear was that week one was going to end up being misleading because Clemson was secretly just going to be bad and Clemson is not so secretly pretty bad right now and so what he did against Clemson, it still counts in week one, but the hype balloon may have inflated a little bit too much and if you combine that with the portal hype and that was that, you know, Lane scored his number one choice in the transfer portal and then you combine that with all the, you know, the fall camp rumblings and then you combine that with, oh, he's fully healthy and then you combine that with that week one game, you get a ton of hype. It was probably overhyped a little bit and then he goes on the road and the game speeds up around him and you fall back to earth a little bit and timing is an issue and footwork's an issue. I mean, I don't know if you've got just an all 22 cut up of every single Sam Levitt snap last night. Jesse, you watched the game just like I did. How many times did you see him just set and comfortable in the pocket? It was not very frequently. So this is a new offense for him. Like it's a new setting for him. So it wouldn't be the first time in the world. It's taken a guy a little while to settle in. The problem potentially there is he's not a young guy, you know, so he's a veteran player now. So I don't know what to expect moving forward, but it seemed a little inconsistent. It seemed a little slow, at least to start. And if you look down the road, like A&M's got their problems right now, but A&M's still a really athletic defense. They got to play Kentucky. They got Mississippi State, but they got Bama on the schedule. They got Texas on the schedule. So like the defensive personnel that he's going to face, I'm just talking about purely in terms of speed, purely in terms of variety of scheme and what he's going to see doesn't get easier. Does not get easier. The biggest question for LSU offensively was kind of answered. They ran the ball okay. Like that was the big question with them is, man, that run game was terrible last year. They're going to be all right. Yeah, they were, they were okay last night. They outrushed Ole Miss by a significant amount, but the other question was not answered, still hasn't been answered. And that was, do they have a wide receiver one? Straight as green really. And he said, they don't. They got a bunch of guys who profile as wide receiver two, wide receiver three types, which is great. If you have a wide receiver one, if you don't, it throws the entire formula into a blender, but Ole Miss needed it. They needed it badly. They got it. Our, um, our friends over there had looked forward to this for a long time. And I know that, you know, we've had a Sunday full of NFL games. There's, there's big sporting events all over the place. You may be passionate about baseball. You may be an English premier league soccer type. I don't care what you're into. I love the idea that someone somewhere out there was flipping through channels last night, and they had loosely been aware that there's this big game in Mississippi, wherever Oxford is, where the guy that was their coach left. And then he's got to come back to town and it's going to be a big prime time event. And they watched this unfold. I love that idea. I love that idea because I have no idea how you could watch that scene in Vaught-Hemingway stadium last night when that ball gets picked in the end zone and it's over and you got all sorts of, of containers and liquids flying all over the place. Mincy sounds like a jackhammer operator in the crowd, loses his good luck pink shirt, but luckily goes back into the venue afterwards to get it. How could you watch that and not be romantic about college football? To quote Brad Pitt, a la Billy Bean, how can you not be romantic about college football? Now I will say this. I said at the beginning, there was a lot I loved from Ole Miss. There was one thing I hated. Pete Golding is a blessed man. He's a blessed man because he gets to be the head coach at Ole Miss. And he's a blessed man because he won last night. But I hope that Pete learned a valuable lesson here. And that is that what is forgotten in a win can stain you in a loss in the pregame after all these months and months and months of buildup about the hatred between these two. This was the scene at midfield. Uh, Todd and wedding crashers would essentially call what they're doing, playing tummy sticks. And I didn't like it, Jesse. I didn't like it one bit because I know Lane Kiffin and I know what he's doing there. He understands that if I go in to their house and all these people in this venue hate me and I get the photo op because no one is going to be able to see it, I'm going to get the snapshot, the screenshot, the quick tweet, the quotable, better than Lane Kiffin. If I get this on that guy who is my friend and I beat them, not only do I go into their house, get the win, suck the soul right out of their bodies, but then as they're angry and enraged, they start to turn back to their own head coach and say, wait a second, wait a second. You let him come in here and beat us. And the lasting image is you yucking it up with him, having a little tickle fight at midfield before the game. You don't have to worry about it, Pete Golding, because you won the game. Had you lost the game, that visual would have haunted you. Let's learn a lesson in a win. We don't always have to pay the price of a loss to learn a lesson. So Mima always taught me the most valuable blessings in life are lessons learned where you don't have to pay the price of a loss. And that was one of them. Great night of football, though. We were down in Auburn last night for Florida-Auburn. I'll talk about the game later. But the Don't Tread on Saturday tour has had a great start to the season. Great start to the season. Which begs the question, where are we headed week four? First off, I've got to adjust my screen. There we go. There were some pretty insane results yesterday. Did anyone see the Kentucky-Texas A&M final coming? Did anyone see this? I'll give the game two and a half chalai. If you're a Kentucky fan, it was like a five chalai classic. If I. I took a straw poll pregame. How many people would have taken Kenny Menchie over Marcel Reed? I'm sure there would have been some out there. But overwhelmingly, I think the public sentiment would be, we don't know enough about Kenny Menchie. So even though Marcel Reed's been kind of up and down, he's at home. He's a 16 and a half point favorite. He's got the experience. Menchie's brand new. And who cares? None of it matters. Because Kenny Menchie ended up being the better quarterback in the game. And if not for some late box score, doctoring, this thing would have been the Sarah McLachlan special. So you may think if you're an A&M fan that nothing got accomplished yesterday. In fact, Mike Elko pretty much said there was nothing positive to take from it. There is that one thing. Because this was going to be the Sarah McLachlan special, if not for some late stat padding. We talk winners first on this show. My feeling at the halftime of this game. I said, I almost said the halftime. I hate it. The word silly and people who say the halftime instead of just halftime. Jesse, strike them. We don't use that kind of vernacular around here. But my feel at halftime of this game was Kentucky has put up a good, hard-fought effort, but they're not going to be able to score. So the second half is going to kind of resemble Texas A&M versus Arizona State from the week before, where A&M pulled away and the final score doesn't tell the whole story. Or maybe it was even going to look like Bama-Kentucky from the week before. Where Kentucky fights hard for a half. Bama pulls away. Just superior athletes. And, oh, that's a shame. But at least they fought for a half. And, buddy, Will Stein and the boys went through the second half against Bama last week and said, none of that anymore. And they came out and went full-on assault mode against Texas A&M. 21-0 run in the third quarter. 196-20. Paper pop all these stats. 86-3. Rushing edge. 10-0 first down edge. Kentucky was 3-for-3 on third and fourth downs. A&M was 0-of-3. That's just in the third quarter. Mind you, this is one week after Bama outscored Kentucky 32-zip in the second half. So you could say some adjustments were made on the side of Kentucky. You could say some lessons were learned. And you could say, Will Stein, three-game sample size. Kentucky. Pretty sure they got it right. Pretty sure they got the hire right there. Mike Elko saw it very well. In fact, Mike Elko stepped to the podium after the game. And he had this to say to sum up Texas A&M's effort. Ads off to Kentucky. They came in here and they beat our. Not good enough from us on any level. Coaching, playing, performing, physicality, anything. And so, on me, I own it. It's my program. I'm in charge of it. And we have to get it fixed. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Marcel Reed is worse than he was a year ago. And it pains me to say it. So, you know, this is another program where they lost both coordinators. Dan Lanning and Oregon lost them. They've been shaky out of the gate. Texas A&M lost both of them. And both of them promoted from within. Which, in theory, is a practice I believe in. But you got to have the right guys. And so far, at least when it comes to quarterback production, but I would also say the ground game as well. Not good on the side of Texas A&M. The attrition that Texas A&M underwent meant that Marcel Reed getting better is a non-negotiable. He's got to scale his performance. If we're going to lose this amount of guys to the NFL, if we're going to have this kind of attrition on the offensive line, Reed's got to be better. And the run game has got to fulfill its potential. And neither of those things has remotely happened. And as a result, A&M's three-week. And if I ask you, what is their offensive identity? How could you possibly answer me? If I had an A&M fan on the show right now. Dude, if I had Mike on the show right now, and he had to answer honestly, he could tell me what he wants their identity to be. But we've actually got results. What could you tell me? What do you hang your hat on? Their run game is woefully underachieved. Marcel Reed's very undependable at quarterback. They're banged up at the wide receiver position. I mean, they're a pretty good quarterback. They're a pretty beat-up team right now. And they go to LSU this Saturday. Saturday night in Death Valley. Clemson experienced it. And now A&M gets to experience it. The secondary kind of got exposed a little bit. They got gashed on the ground. I wrote this down. The explosive passes, not only are they not there, they're non-existent. They're tied with Air Force and Michigan State. And they're ahead of only Iowa. In terms of. In terms of explosive passes so far this year. And here's the thing. Iowa has no interest in creating explosive passes down the field. They know what their identity is. A&M has no idea what theirs is. I guess the good news is we're only a quarter way through the season. But that's a beat-up team. And they're in do-or-die mode already going into week four. And meanwhile, Kentucky kind of feels like they're profiling as the team some people whispered Auburn may be. Because if you go back to July, when you're in media day season, you're kind of trying to figure out how the season's going to go. You've got your Georgia predictions, your Texas predictions. Some folks were on LSU. Some folks were on Oklahoma. A few folks were on Alabama. But if you were looking for a sleeper, a lot of people circled either Florida or Auburn, who ironically played each other last night. And what they said about Auburn is they said, we think the personnel defensively is good enough, but now we're going to inject a shot of life offensively. and there's a new quarterback coming in there, In their case, it's Kenny Minchey. In Auburn's case, it's Byron Brown. And the thing that they said Auburn could be is the thing that Kentucky is so far. And I got to tell you, I know there's a ton to talk about, and there's a ton coming up this week, and it'll probably be lost in the national conversation. To do what they did in the second half yesterday, after having what happened to them go down just seven days earlier against Alabama, is to be admired. So we clap for Will Stein on this show. I didn't even have the heart to face John Summerall last night. I know word got around the building. I know my words reverberated around Gainesville last week. In many cases this week I was right, but this is one of them where I was not. Not only that, on the locker room last Wednesday, my favorite bet of the week was the under. It was 53-and-a-half for those keeping track at home. So just a total whiff on me for this game. Every side imaginable, just a total whiff. I'll give the game three, Chalai. Great night for Florida. A ton of Florida folks traveled up there to Auburn, Alabama. So my questions, if I still had them, about quarterback, offensive coordinator, Aaron Philo, Buster Faulkner, well, those have been answered in two ways. Firstly, watching that game last night. Secondly, watching Georgia Tech without them so far this year. Those questions are kind of answered, and I feel like even just through three games, they're really in touch with what Aaron Philo needs to be. He's really in touch with what he needs to be. And that is to be a guy who understands I got the best tailback in the SEC right here next to me in Jaden Ball. I've got racehorses at wide receiver. Several of them, I need to get the ball to them and not screw up in the process. And that's pretty much what he did last night. And that's what I fully expect him to continue to do, at least as good, if not better, than he was last night throughout the year. They had nearly 500 total yards of offense. They outrushed Auburn 243 to 102. Frankly, it's a miracle this game was as close as it ended up being on the scoreboard because the gap on the field, just watching the thing from field level, felt a lot wider than that. So, here's the beauty. The beauty in this, if you're John Summerall, is you won the game. You won it in pretty convincing fashion, and there were so many things in the game. Penalties, screw-ups, mental mistakes, that you get to ride them to death over the next six days with Ole Miss coming to town, knowing I got a pretty high ceiling on this football team. And we just won a game on the road, and you never take that for granted. Talk to them like they haven't done anything. I get to talk to them like if you continue to make those kinds of mistakes, it'll get you beat, frankly, because it will. 16 penalties, 138 yards. Many of them were garbage. And I was standing there talking, you know what, I'm going to leave that part out. Needless to say, I took issue with some of the penalties that were the flags that were thrown against Florida last night. I mean, that late hit, or in this case, a hit on the quarterback, that was still inbounds, happened right in front of me. And everything Summerall yelled, most of which can't be repeated on this show, was like from me to this camera. And I'm like, yup, yeah, basically, yeah, I agree. Meemaw wouldn't speak that way, but yeah, I agree. So that's an SEC-wide thing, though, man. It is so glaring. When you see the amount of penalty flags that are thrown in SEC competition versus the rest of the country, it's like they get paid per flag. It's crazy. So, anyway, Florida ceilings. It's pretty high as a team right now. Third downs crushed Auburn. Florida crushed Auburn, but on third downs specifically, they crushed Auburn. So Trevor Denton, I thought, summed this up pretty well because he went back and he just aggregated all the third and long situations that Auburn got Florida into last night. Here's the great thing about Jordan-Harris Stadium. You work, you fight on first and second down to put the other guy in third and long so that place can get loud, which it does, and your defense can pin your ears back, which they tried to do. All for this to happen? This was Auburn's defense on third and long last night. Third and 12, gave up a 27-yard pass. Third and 21, face mask, automatic first down. Third and 20, 20-yard touchdown. Third and 8, 48 yards. Third and 14, 12 yards, which I believe led to a fourth down conversion. Third and 11, 20-yard touchdown pass. What in the world am I. What am I supposed to do? If I'm a fan in the crowd, I'm screaming until I'm hoarse, and that's what's happening. And that right there was where I whiffed because I really thought Auburn could, if they had gotten them in those sorts of situations, sort of dictate the terms of the game. Home field at your back, all those dudes coming on the road for the first time, that quarterback's never played in this kind of environment before. Buster Faulkner, new coordinator or not, like all of the operation has to go. He has to come on the road. And if you tell me I'm going to get you in that many third and longs, I just think I'm going to be able to beat you. And I swear to you, I thought that was going to happen. And I swear to you, it did not happen. The exact opposite happened. So 24 missed tackles is what PFF charted Auburn at. Put whatever stock in that you want to. I can tell you there were a lot of missed tackles last night. If you watched what I did, it could be 20, it could be 28, whatever. There were a lot of missed tackles. But Auburn's offense had to pay for what we've already seen. So what we've already seen, if you watch the Baylor game, if you watch the Southern Miss game, both of those were wins for Auburn. But you watched it, at least I did, and I said, Byron Brown seems like he's playing in.75 speed. The progression, the entire operation, it just feels slow. My hope for him, for their sake, was it'll eventually calibrate. It'll calibrate itself. It'll eventually look like it's supposed to. He got sacked seven times last night, Jesse. Florida had nine tackles for loss. It felt like three times that many. I don't know how to put this. There's no stat for what I'm about to say. I got the best job in the world. So we just go stand on the field and watch college football games every week. Normally, it's the best teams in the country, so you're watching the best athletes in the country. And if you've ever stood field level for a high-level college football game, the speed on the field's insane. So if you watch it on TV, it's one thing. When you see it, and it's happening all around you, when you feel that many humans moving that fast, what it does is it's the LL Cool J thing in Deep Blue Sea where he talks about the theory of relativity and time. So clearly, the LL Cool J Deep Blue Sea theory of relativity protocol was on display last night. Because one second of football time feels like five seconds in a sense that when you're watching Byron Brown hold onto that ball, everything else is moving as fast as it is. Maybe he only held it two or three seconds. It seems like 30 seconds he's holding that thing. And I'm standing there. I don't have the best view of the entire field. I don't have a full press box view because I don't like sitting in the press box. But I'm thinking to myself, either these are some of the great coverage, in the history of organized football, or that dude's holding onto the ball too long and not seeing the field. And it's probably a combination of a lot of things. But I thought their ground game at Auburn would be what everything revolved around. And Cobb had nine carries for 32 yards last night. It's just not what I expected. You know, it's happened before, but not what I expected. What we said, what I said about this game, and what we said Friday on our ESPN show was there was a question, will the winner of this game, emerge as a contender for the SEC championship? And the way I answered that was, I don't know if I'll go that far yet. I think the winner extends the runway for us to decide whether they are. So Auburn lost last night. They're not going to be a contender for the SEC title. Florida won last night. And I don't know that they are quite yet. But I'm willing to whisper, you got to watch out for Florida. Now, I didn't say it out loud, so it doesn't count if they lose Saturday. But I think you got to watch out for them a little bit. Because now, now, there's that schedule we talked about so much, Jesse. There's the win against Auburn. So that was domino number one that needed to fall. Now, you got Ole Miss in the biggest letdown spot in the history of college football. And then you go to Missouri. And all Missouri's got to do this weekend is go play Kamario Taylor on the road. And then you got South Carolina coming in. Well, more on South Carolina later. But you do get them in October for whatever that's worth. And then you go to Texas the week after Red River shootout. I can't really caveat the Georgia game. just going to be tough, but you're playing them in Atlanta. So, you know, it's a neutral site for whatever that's worth. Anyway, Florida, who knows, maybe we had a ton of fun at this game. So there were a ton of Florida folks in town and we had our, we had our show Friday and it was packed and it was so hot. And I met as many people as I could, by the way, I don't know how many of the people in the live crowd signed this football. We estimate they're like a hundred signatures on this football. Apparently you guys just passed it around and signed it all afternoon and somehow the Sharpie didn't sweat off of it. So that I'm telling you, it's the hottest I've ever been in my life. Immunity. Don't tread on Saturday flags all over the place. So here's what I've decided. Okay. The fine folks at Auburn have inspired me to have Prez bring some chalice supremacy on the road because our people were there. We were signing stuff. Left and right, taking pictures left and right. It kills me when security pulls us away and I can't finish taking pictures. I signed a copy of the rumors album, Jesse, only Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have done that before me. I say all that to say there were many chalice worthy moments in Auburn Friday, and I hate that we didn't have them on hand. So Prez starting this weekend in Knoxville, we got to have some chalice. What did that mean? What did that sign say, Jesse? Mr. Clean and the Dappin' Machines? I don't endorse. I don't endorse it per se, but it is creative. So I got to give five points for creativity. So yeah, man, I got to tell you, Auburn's an incredibly special place to me because I grew up close to there. We had some people in our crew that hadn't been there ever that came this weekend. They finally found out what Auburn is about. I know a lot of the Florida folks that went up there. They kind of circled that trip because it used to be a rivalry. And now it's not a game that's played every year. Dude, everybody at Auburn always takes care of us. And I cannot speak highly enough of those people. So I appreciate it. Tough that you had to lose the game, but it was a big win for us this weekend. So at least on that front, we appreciate it. There are big games all over the place this weekend. This weekend's insane. This weekend's insane all across the country. We got USC Oregon this weekend. Well, Oregon USC because it's in the Coliseum. You know, Boise goes to Western Michigan this weekend, Jesse. You guys need to go play someone else. I don't know what it is about that matchup. Florida State will be awful the rest of the year. You put Bama, you put Kalen DeBoer, you put Kane Womack across the field and it's like they start glowing red. Crazy. So I was watching this game live a little bit. During the afternoon windows. And the game was 21 to six Florida State. I want to know how many of you thought it was happening again. Knowing what happened last year with that as the backdrop, how many of you at that point thought Florida State's going to beat them? I asked that because it was 21 to six with about three minutes to go until halftime. And yet Alabama led this game in halftime. Because following that moment in time, Bama goes on a 21-0 run in two minutes, 14 seconds of game time. And at that point I'm thinking, hmm, is this going to be a shootout? Is it going to be a replay of the Kentucky game last week? I ended up kind of being a little bit of both, but remember that Kentucky game for Alabama? My big takeaway on it was, okay, well, this team seems like it's got some of the same issues last year. The team itself is just so much better that they can easily window dress it and they can easily overcome it. And like they, they had a slow start against Kentucky last week. They had penalty issues against Kentucky last week. They had the same issues as last year against Kentucky last week. The difference is they're way better. So they still ended up winning, running away yesterday. Slow start, still had some penalty and procedural issues, same issues as last week, same issues as last week. And they still ended up winning by two touchdowns. Why? Because they're a much better team this year. They're a much more dynamic team this year than they were last year. And there's a really important moment here that I don't want to get lost because this was the moment that forced Keelan Russell to emerge. And Keelan Russell, a lot of us think he has the potential to be a star down the road, but in an ideal world, you kind of bring him along slowly. No, he had to go win the game yesterday. Like you can laugh at that all you want to, but once you get in the doghouse, it doesn't matter who was favored. It doesn't matter what their record's going to be. Any given afternoon, like Florida State still got some decent athletes, including one really good one at receiver. And if they're throwing jump balls to him and he's coming down with them, it's game on at that point. And Keelan Russell ends up going 23 of 30 for 320 and three scores, and then tacks on another 56 on the ground. And that's with sack yardage included because Jesse, didn't he have one 57 yard run by itself? So, you know, it's a he is going to be a star, but you don't become a star against Florida State. So I'll grant you that. But a lot of what you saw from him yesterday, like some of those throws, there was a throw near halftime. Pretty incredible. There was a throw where he had to layer that thing over the middle later in the game. Pretty incredible. So here's what's glaring about them in this game yesterday. First half, Bama has 261 through the air and 20 on the ground. And the second half, they got 59 through the air and 220 on the ground. That second half number on the ground is the difference. Because last year, if you remember how this upset happened, Florida State gashed them on the ground. They outrushed them 230 to 87. Yesterday, Bama outrushed them 247 to 94. So that's an important key. I would say the second most important key is they had four different guys with 50 plus rushing yards. So several guys are starting to emerge for them. The question's not about the 50. That's great. The question is about the 36. How concerned are we about that? Well, the good news, I guess, is they made Florida State one-dimensional. Florida State couldn't run the ball. The bad news is that one dimension, there kept being lightning strikes, figuratively and literally, as it turns out. And there were six passes in this game of 30 plus yards. The trade-off, though, for jump ball magic sort of being your go-to is jump ball magic is something you can't consistently win with because there's two sides to the coin. And so you end up turning the ball over. So it looks really good when it works, but it's not sustainable. And that's what ended up biting them. And Florida State, was it minus two or minus three turnovers, Jesse? Three. Minus three turnovers. I mean, that's your padlock stat. That's the difference in the game. By the way, did you see the guy in the live chat? It just went off the screen. Is this an SEC show? Buddy, buddy, I dare you to look at that Big Ten schedule yesterday and pick something to talk about. I'll talk about SMU Louisville a little bit later on. Who in the world would disrespect their audience enough to talk about what the Big Ten tried to pass off as a weekend of college football games yesterday? So yeah, it's a loaded show with SEC content tonight. Because those were almost the only games worth talking about with a few exceptions, which I'm still yet to get to because we're only 42 minutes into the show. So ceiling on this Bama team is pretty high, but they've already trailed twice early this year. Now they kicked the door down late, but they've still trailed early a couple of times and the level of competition will ramp up. So I call them a conditional contender in the preseason. That's still absolutely what they are. There's a very high ceiling on this team, but they're still a long way from that. They're still a long way from that. And it's a lot of conditional type stuff. So we'll see. They got South Carolina in the most wounded animal desperation mode ever. South Carolina has played them extremely tough the last couple of years. So we're going to see. You know where they go after that, Jesse. I'm going to see Keelan Russell, Kamario Taylor. But we got Lenora Sellers in here this weekend. So yeah, there's a lot to look forward to here. Their schedule set up really nicely, for them. And now it's going to get a lot tougher in the coming weeks. You know what else is tough? Jesse? Eating healthy. Your guess is as good as mine. Mississippi State 41, South Carolina 34. It was the hidden gem on the schedule. It delivered yesterday. We are giving this four chalai on the one to five scale. Really intense game, man. Williams Bryce Stadium, or William Bryce's Stadium, as Will Compton would call it. It always brings it. And then it's up to the home team to follow through. And the first part always happens. The second part can be hit or miss sometimes. This was the underrated game of the day. I thought the wrong team was favored in this game. I was right. And the underdog went in and won outright. But it wasn't easy. It wasn't easy. You just see, yesterday, I thought my battery died on my iJosh. Because the thing about the device I have in my hand here is, when I say something on this show, and it doesn't go according to plan, it lights up. Everybody wants to attack me. And I don't know why. I've always thought I'm pretty likable. But everybody wanted to attack me. So yesterday, Jesse, picture this. I say, the wrong team's favored. Camario Taylor's going to be the better of the two quarterbacks. Mississippi State's going to go in there and win outright. And boom, they're down 16-0. You can imagine what my phone did. Then it went silent. So I thought, I looked at Prez. I said, Prez, you got a charger? I think my phone's dead. And Prez is like, no, you just got like 52% battery. And I said, oh, I must have it on do not disturb. But I checked, and that wasn't the case either. And it turned out what had happened was Camario Taylor woke up. And so did Mississippi State. And I don't know how many deleted Camario Taylor tweets there are out there. Some say millions. But all I know is, this game started with an interception and punt and punt. And by the time Mississippi State got the ball for their fourth possession, they're down 16-0. And then the switch flipped. It's a most, it's one of the most classic and then what happened moments of this weekend. Mississippi State scored on seven of their next eight drives. Camario Taylor threw for 251 and four touchdowns. He was the best quarterback on the field yesterday. Jeff Lebby has just continued a pretty steady trajectory. If you look at year over year, and now we're into another year, and they just keep getting better. They were terrible his first year. They were two and 10. And then they elevated to five and eight last year. And they had those, you remember those close losses, couple of one possession losses. Was it Texas and Florida? I believe last year, Jesse, they were close. And then this year so far, they're three and O. And I don't really care what the AP says. I don't really care what the AP says. That's a top 15 team right now. And they've got the entire world in front of them. Look at that schedule. Like you would look at that and say, boy, Mississippi State has to play Bama, Texas, LSU, whatever. But you know what else? They got to play Mississippi State now. They're developing a quarterback too. They didn't have to run to the portal and get Camario Taylor. They had him right there in house. And you know who the most pathetic people on earth are right now? The people who would never have let the world know. They would never have let the world know. They would never Mississippi State or Camario Taylor come out of their mouths. They're drive-by types. They don't really watch much college football. And they're one of the most pathetic people on earth. One and only take on Mississippi State right now is how big the bidding war will be for Kamario Taylor in the transfer portal. Mute yourself. Just mute yourself. Your opinions are useless. If that's what you think, that's the first thing that comes to mind when you're watching what this dude's doing. I'm not calling you a loser because I don't know all of you personally, but that is loser energy. Also, we got to do whatever it takes to keep him there. People think what I'm about to do brings me joy, but it doesn't. You know, I have listened to my parents for a long time. You know, when I was growing up, believe it or not, I got in trouble once. I got in trouble once or twice, and I would always get the whole, this hurts me a lot more than it hurts you. And Jesse, I didn't understand it. Like, Daddy, Mommy, I'm in pain right now. This hurts me as far as I can tell. But they said, no, no, no. What you don't understand is here, this hurts us to have to do. And I got friends who are South Carolina Gamecocks fans. I got friends who went to South Carolina. I got friends who live and die. Mainly die with this team. And I don't want to throw it in their face, but Jesse, you were around last week. A lot of us were around last week. There were some statements made publicly. I can't ignore this sort of thing. And would it be ethical for me to allow people to drag my name up to the mud, fully prepared to drag it through the mud, and not be prepared? This is peace through overwhelming force is what this is. Ladies and gentlemen. It brings me no joy. This week's Sarah McLachlan special, the South Carolina Gamecocks. Things haven't been the same for this team since they led Texas A&M 30-3 at the half last year. Because if you take that game and yesterday's game and combine them, do you realize they led by a combined score of 46-3 and went 0-2 in those contests? They lost both of them. And it quickly changed. And things went downhill quickly. And by the end of it, you just got multiple arrows in your chest. It brings me no joy. I know there was a lot of hype. I know there was a lot of promise. I know that it was Lenora Sellers and Kendall Bryles. And we got Mike Shula out of town. And we're good to go now. But at the end of the day, it's just the same old, same old. And if anything, it looks a little bit worse. And now you've got to go on the road to Alabama. And you've still got. So much time for things to deteriorate. Season's not over. But yesterday is. The Sarah McLachlan special. For the 11th time, it brings me no joy. South Carolina. Thought we were going to have those tweets on screen. And now it's just completely dark in here. Lenora Sellers, man, this was so disappointing. In all reality, there was some really terrible decision-making yesterday. And there are flashes. Like, so if you wanted to sell. Lenora Sellers to someone, you could show me clips where he wows you. I know that. You could show me the clips. The thing is, flashes don't win football games. They just intoxicate you. And if anything, they fool you into thinking something more is coming than you really should expect to come. Immunity. And that is the classic case of Lenora Sellers right now. Because you see every now and then he'll do something that makes you go, there are not many people on the planet that can do that. But then you see just these inexplicable decisions made. Interceptions yesterday. One in particular where it's not some athlete screaming from midfield over there to the boundary to pick a ball off. He's already standing there. And Lenora Sellers just, boom, makes you throw your hands up in the air. So they've still got time. It's one loss. But they've also got a loaded schedule. And. I. I think about what happened last year. They went 4-8. And that's always. Well, it's never okay. But it was going to be okay as long as they pulled the nose up. But if this thing starts going that direction again, then we'll walk down that path when we get there. They're going to be an underdog in at least five of their remaining games. Maybe as many as seven of their remaining games. So it could get a lot worse. Mississippi State, though, is the surprise team in the country right now. And they've got some big boys coming in there. No criticism of Shane Beamer. How more critical could I be? Do I need to say his name specifically? I'm just reading the live chat. Like Will said, no criticism of Shane Beamer. This wide receiver room is a joke. The development of that position has been atrocious. Now, in fairness, they got peaked back at left tackle yesterday. So I credit Shane Beamer for making a move. They were in the portal to get him. And then he got hurt. That's out of Shane Beamer's control. They got him back yesterday. Dylan Stewart played a handful of plays yesterday. And presumably, they'll have them moving forward. Maybe that's what turns the season around. But there's plenty of criticism. I think I've started the entire segment with that. Let's move on. QR code is live. The AP poll is a wet bag of trash this week. Presented by Ram. And I got to say, if I were Ram, I appreciate them presenting this segment, but I would want to throw it in. In reverse, although the truck looks like it's steadily moving forward, I'd want to be as far away from this week's AP poll as possible. So God bless Ram for presenting this for us. We are a quarter of the way through the season now, and people are still clinging to preseason rankings. People are still clinging to what they believed at a pool party or at media days in July. Like sitting on a beach somewhere, you thought Oregon was going to be good, and for that reason and that reason alone, you've still got them ranked above Kentucky or someone like that. Crazy. Crazy, crazy, crazy. So I put this out earlier today. This got released earlier today. I gathered a lot of your reactions because I have the same reactions you do. So let's just start reacting to some of this stuff. I mean, a lot of you noticed that Ole Miss, oh, I don't know, beat LSU last night, and they've already beat Louisville, and they're still number four. Ole Miss. Ole Miss still behind Georgia and Notre Dame. Where's that tweet, Jesse? We've got several people who noticed, wait a second, Georgia's played nobody remotely close to being ranked. Notre Dame's played nobody remotely close to being ranked. Ole Miss has played teams that, according to the AP, are so good even after losing to Ole Miss. They're still ranked 10 and 16, and that's good enough to have Ole Miss at four. Now they're not top two, at least, is pure insanity. You want me to say drugs, but no, I'm going to reserve the drug use for later, not for myself, but for the voters, because it gets even worse than that. Because Texas A&M, Texas A&M is still ahead of several teams they shouldn't be ahead of. Preseason rankings, this is according to Nolan SC, or SC, preseason rankings are the only reason Texas A&M is still ahead of Mississippi State. Of course it's the only reason they're still ahead of Mississippi State. A&M got embarrassed in their own building yesterday by Kentucky. For that matter, Jesse, why is Kentucky behind Texas A&M? They both have losses. Kentucky's is to number eight, Alabama. A&M's is to literally Kentucky, and Kentucky's nowhere to be found here, and A&M's still 23rd, not to mention Mississippi State's at 24th, without a blemish on their resume and they've already gone into Big Ten country and body bagged Minnesota, and then they went over and handled South Carolina yesterday. A&M's done nothing, nothing whatsoever, and got beat handedly by Kentucky yesterday, still ahead of Mississippi State. Why? Preseason rankings. Whatever that's worth, going into week four. We continue. Our buddy Chase Daniel took a little bit of an issue with Louisville, and you know what? It wasn't my first reaction, but the more I look at what he's saying, I agree. Louisville so far this year, let's just do a quick fact check. They played Ole Miss tighter than LSU did in week one. They beat SMU yesterday, and SMU's still ranked, by the way, so that's a great win, and they're number 16. What has USC done to be ahead of Louisville, where they're undefeated? Yes, they are against San Jose State and Fresno and Louisiana and Rutgers, two of which hung 30 or more on them, I think. Yes, they're still undefeated against those teams. Craziness, but I still think that when you look at where Mississippi State is on this thing right now, that is drugs. That is copious amounts of drug use. That's like a dereliction of duty. No matter how serious or not you take this thing, to look at the actual results on the field so far this year, to know good and well, if any of these name brand teams, I want you to pretend for just a second that Tennessee, I'm not even going to go Georgia or Alabama, take Tennessee and give them Mississippi State's resume so far. That's a top five team, as it should be. I wouldn't have a problem with that. Mississippi State's big crime is that they're Mississippi State. That's it. That's their only crime. That's all they're guilty of. Florida is behind Oregon. Totally laughable at this point. Florida has not lost a game and went on the road in what at that point was a top 25 teams building according to the AP and won yesterday. Oregon has been taken to the limit by Boise. They've gone on the road and they've lost to Oklahoma State and they're still ahead of Florida. Why? Preseason rankings. That's why. Now, I know the great solace that a lot of people have when it comes to this is they say, oh, well, at least it doesn't matter. Do you really think that the committee's mentality is that much different from an AP voter? Do we really think that? I don't know. But I will say this, we can do a lot better than that right there. So the commissioner's poll will rectify all this later this week. We roll on. A lot more games to talk about. A lot more to talk about. Louisville beat SMU 41 to 31, one of the better games of the day yesterday. And I felt really good about this thing. I added the Ramen Noodle Express. I mean, if you didn't watch Friday Night Lines, first off, you missed an eight and two weekend like the Ramen Noodle Express crushed it this week. Louisville was one of our best bets. I felt really good because I felt like they had the edge at quarterback because even though Lincoln-Kindholtz has a fraction, of the work under his belt that Kevin Jennings does, Jennings has shown a propensity to continue to turn the ball over. And it happened again yesterday. And I had a Louisville team in desperation mode. And they played like it. And both of them ran for over 250 on the day. But the box score tells the whole story in this game. Yardage was pretty similar, both through the air and on the ground. Penalties, pretty similar. Each of them, like I said, ran for over 250, but SMU was minus 3%. That was the whole deal. And it manifested itself yesterday. And as a result, Louisville wins 41-31. And there's a lot of variance in the outcomes for Louisville the rest of the way because defensively, not that great. But Lincoln-Kindholtz is a player. And I believe in Jeff Brom's ability there. That Friday night game in Lubbock was tight. Texas Tech beat Houston 28-26. You can sign me up for a rematch of that game. I know Utah and Brigham Young and Oklahoma State, but who knows, Arizona State. A lot of teams will have a lot to say about that. But if that were to be the Big 12 championship game, I'd be fine with that. Texas Tech's depth mattered. If you watch the way that second half played out, Joey just had more good players than Willie Fritz did. But otherwise, that game's played pretty evenly. Connor Wegman, I thought, validated himself greatly. I thought also, look, Will Hammond, for as shaky as it was to begin with, and it looked like they were dead in the water for a little while, he came alive. Good for them. You would reasonably expect them to continue to get better throughout the year. But I think the core message is the Big 12's open. Texas Tech is the favorite here. Should, I think, still be the favorite here. But Brigham Young's up there. Utah's up there. Houston's still up there. And then you've got your Kansas State, Arizona State, Oklahoma State group. That's going to be a fun, we're not going to halfway through the year, but especially the back half of the Big 12 is going to be really fun. USC and Rutgers, 42-35. USC beats Rutgers yesterday. Massive whiff for Jesse. He picked Rutgers to win outright. Yardage was pretty even. 461-46. Just a shameful day for Jesse. Out of all the wagons that you could hitch yourself to, Jesse chose Rutgers. And that's why Jesse is no longer with us. He's in the studio. It's 461-46. You're not going to believe this, Jesse. USC had 14 points off turnovers. You're telling me the team that was the worst team in P4 at turning the ball over, turned the ball over, and USC capitalized on it. That's what happened in this game. I don't know what to make of USC defensively because they gave up 26 to San Jose State and everyone's like, uh-oh. And then they shut out Fresno. That's great. We're off to the races with Gary Patterson. Uh-oh, hold on. We're off to the races. Hold on. Louisiana just came in and hung 30 on us. And Rutgers just put 35 on us. And now we open conference play. So experiment time is over. Oregon and Washington and Penn State are your next three. And you're still going to play Ohio State and Indiana later in the year. What is USC right now? Now I will say this. We were talking about this earlier. We need to monitor second half USC. games very closely because it is true that defensively their frontline guys are much improved, plenty good enough to play winning football. And that's it. They don't have the caliber of depth that maybe your Ohio States do or your Michigans do. They don't have that group of guys beneath the surface. Got to keep an eye on that because if someone hangs like 42 plays on them in the first half of one of these games, second half could be a little weird. West Virginia beat Virginia. 38-27. Friday night line viewers will recall the model loved West Virginia this weekend. For some reason I laid off of it. It was a great weekend for us. Ramen Noodle Express went 8-2. Could have been 9-2 if we just believed a little bit more in Rich Rod. West Virginia ran for 247. Of course they did. They got 844 on the ground through three games. Rich Rodriguez, I'll give him credit. He knew exactly what he wanted him to be. They acquired talent. They acquired talent to fit what they wanted to be and they are what they want to be. And they play Oklahoma State this weekend. And the beautiful thing about the Big 12 is how many matchups we have where styles totally clash. And that is a styles clash sort of game. West Virginia's favored by one and a half. Basically home field. So it's kind of viewed as a pick'em game on a neutral field. Going to be a fun one. A little off the radar. Last night in Norman, Oklahoma. The home team scored 14 points against New Mexico. Not surprised at all. I'm not surprised at the lack of offensive output. I'm not surprised New Mexico hung around in this game. Like I know from talking to some New Mexico staffers, they thought that they could give OU a ton of problems offensively. Because frankly, OU is giving OU a ton of problems offensively right now. They hoped that the ground game would be better. They had 61 yards rushing last night. 1.9 per. Their longest carry, nine yards. It's kind of sad to see where the offense is. There was one point in the press conference last night where John Mateer revealed that he checked down to a guy because a lot of people yelled that the guy was open. And everyone in the room chuckled. And John Mateer said, no, I'm serious. And he's like, buddy, we're, we're, we're chuckling to kind of, uh, diffuse how awkward this feels right now. We know, we know you're serious. There's no identity. They have, they have to hold everyone under 20. That's their offensive identity. They go to Georgia this week. They've got to play Texas in a couple of weeks. They've got to go to Mississippi state. It could get really ugly for Oklahoma if they don't figure something out quick. And I don't really know what there is to figure out. Now that defense is great. And that defense is going to have them in every game. The problem is you're asking your defense to be perfect. It's one of those situations where where you're asking your defense to hold everyone under 20, under 17, and that's not fair. That's not a fair position to put your guys in. Oh, the Vandy game. Or the NC State game. Whatever you want to call this. The English language has roughly one million words, and there are none of them to describe how the Vandy-NC State game ended yesterday. And I saw it on delay. I was in Jordan-Hare Stadium, and I was walking up to the press box, and I caught the ending of this game out of the corner of my eye. But then I kept walking, and by the time I got up to the press box, they had reviewed it, and the game is over, and the full totality of what just happened reveals itself. And this was all I had. I tweeted out, I just saw the NC State ending. Shut the program down. I don't even know how you get on the bus. What is the locker room like after this? I assume most of you have seen it. For those of you who haven't, they're up three. They're trying to take a safety to end the game. They fumble the ball. Vandy recovers the ball in the end zone with enough time left to kick an extra point in a game where they were favored by three and a half. This is worse than he has trouble with the snap. This is worse than Mario not taking the knee against Georgia Tech. It's worse than anything. It's the worst thing I've ever seen in my whole life, Jesse. Not in football, just period. It's the worst. I cannot fathom what the locker room is like, what the vibe is like. And that's a road game, so you have to travel home. They had to board a plane. They had to fly home. What is it like? What does it feel like? That dude who just allowed that to happen is being paid a ton of money to play football for NC State this year. Just, I know we got NC State fans that watch the show.
