Week 3 Lineup Winners: Underrated Players You Should Start in Fantasy Football (Ep. 2218)

This episode of the fantasy football podcast analyzes Week 3 matchups and identifies high-impact, under-the-radar players to start in fantasy lineups. Bryce Chung is highlighted as a strong QB option despite low ECR rankings due to strong fantasy production and favorable matchups against a struggling Cleveland defense. Bryce Young is praised for his elite passing stats and offensive evolution, positioning him as a top-12 quarterback. Kyle Middleton emerges as a top flex against the Eagles, backed by a porous run defense and high volume. Don Tabby and Wix are emphasized as key WR targets due to their volume, red zone usage, and the Eagles’ secondary weaknesses. Devon Valle and Adnan Mitchell are recommended as high-upside flex options against the Saints and Lions, respectively, with both benefiting from poor defensive coverage and high target share. Pat Frey-Mute is positioned as a must-start tight end against the Bengals, given his red zone targets and the Bengals’ history of struggling against tight ends. The episode concludes that Week 3 is filled with injuries and defensive vulnerabilities, making these players not just viable but essential for strong fantasy outcomes. The hosts stress that many of these players would typically be considered late-round or flex picks, but current matchups and data show they are now must-starts—highlighting a shift in fantasy strategy due to real-time performance and injury exposure.

I'm your host Seth Wolcock still rocking and rolling with a man who's given me all the junior high football coach vibes today. That's right. He's your friend and mine downtown, Derek Brown, D bro. How is the process of crafting the primer? I'm sure your big brain's just filled with all the info that you're excited to unload with us today. We went we went with junior high school coach vibes, huh? That's that's do you want do you want junior varsity? Do you want varsity? I've watched a little Friday night lights and you kind of you kind of give me like Friday night lights coaching vibes right now, which which ain't a bad thing. Those guys are some dogs out there calling plays from Mustangs. You know what's so hilarious and horrible about all of this. My freaking kids my teenager said the same thing the other day I was in the car and I go to pick them up and my daughter gets into the car and we're talking about it. She's like you really got some like junior high like football coach Jim teacher vibes going on right now and I was wearing like a tank top and some and some wind pants and stuff and I was like man, I feel that took a hit said I didn't know it was going to catch stress on this show too, man, but I'm here for it. It's a good thing. That's a good look. I don't give though, I give like nerdy some year old vibes, I don't know if that's a good look, but I mean we can only do what we can do with what we got, so I'm just playing the cards that life helped me, my man. Hey, absolutely. And you're going to bang up job at my friend and we're going to do a bang up job hopefully on today's program because it's loaded. We got Mustangs for each position quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end. And before we get down to business, just want to thank everyone truly for all the support on the Facebook YouTube channel and the audio feed so far this season. We're trying to get to 300,000 subscribers by the end of it. We can only get there with your help. So please get this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed this type of content and don't forget to subscribe. Do the channel if you're new and Derek Brown, we're going to start out at the quarterback position where you're taking us to the shores of Lake Eerie. Why is Bryce Chung QB 17 in the ECR right now when both of his wide receivers are both top 24 in the ECR and two games, Bryce Chung is the QB 2 in fantasy points per game. Crazy. I felt like this is the low-hanging fruit and I'll just go ahead and pick it and enjoy it. And like, I don't know if Bryce Chung keeps this up with the totality of the season because right now, amongst 29 qualifying passers, he is 30 Nords per tenth and passing success rate and eighth and hero throw rate. The downside of all of it and the Bryce Chung of all of it is in that same sample. He is also second lowest and catchable target rate and second lowest and highly accurate throw rate. So I don't know if Bryce Chung keeps doing this for the totality of the season, but they'll pretty good about him this week though Seth. Cleveland Brown's past defense has not been good through two games. Fifth highest pass and success rate, seventh highest pass rating allowed fifth highest CPOE. Plus they are bottom 12 and pressure rate. So Bryce Chung throwing from clean pockets to his top two wide receivers who are healthy I feel good about Bryce Chung. Like, I don't know if he's going to be a top five option again this week, but can he put up QB1 numbers? Yeah, I think that's definitely possible. So like, I don't understand why he's ranked as low as he is. I feel like that's not really like commiserate with his production and it's more of people just gravitating to his name and stuff. Like, I mean, you tell me, Seth, do you feel better about, and I know this game is going to already be in played, Bryce Chung versus Jordan Love, Bryce Chung versus Kyler Murray, Bryce Chung versus Bonex. Like all of these quarterbacks are ahead of a meCR. I can't make a case for them, but they are. Now I'll take Bryce Young, both ways, man on Sunday, right? And like, I think the change in like, we all, I think believe Dave Canal is really good offensive mind. Maybe not the best play caller, though, and we're seeing the fruits of his labor passing those duties off can really pay off, right? Right now young leads the league and passing touchdowns second in the league and passing yards per game and six and quarterback rating. I know some of that, you know, they, they were in a shootout in week one, but last week they didn't have to pass necessarily. They got up on the Falcons early and just kept, you know, thrown haymakers at him. You love what you've seen on a Tederome McMillan again, kind of doing his thing. But Jalen Coker here, top six in the NFL in receptions and receiving yards, man. And I know we got the backfield wrong for fantasy, but Shuba Hubbard also kind of helping move the sticks and give Bryce Young more opportunity out there. So it's hard to, you know, shy away from the Panthers offense and fantasy. It's also hard to shy away from them on the betting card. I got them laying the minus two and a half this week against the Browns to your point, too. Do you know the team that leads the NFL in neutral passing right right now, Seth? Carolina Panthers. It is the Panthers. Really? They are throwing at almost 72% of their plays in close games right now. Yeah. Well, this is like why the conversation over the offseason and, you know, everyone said, this is Bryce Young's last chance. And I did agree with that. Oh, I did agree with that. At the same time, though, we saw him play good at the end of the year, right? Like he really started coming to his own, especially in that Rams wild card game. He was mixing it up. And I just think this is like the all time best we've seen him. And he's making a real case for himself. If he can even keep up 80% of this production, rest the way, he's giving himself a new contract down there in Charlotte. Oh, he is. Yeah. And I mean, it comes down to who would you feel better or not only from a Carolina Panthers perspective, but just an NFL perspective. Did you feel better about paying right now long term Bryce Young or CJ Stroud? I'd rather give them money than Bryce Young. And two years ago, even a year ago, we would say no way. Yeah. Right? But this is flipped on its own. Oh, it's flipped. CJ Stroud just looks like he is who he is at this point of his career. But again, we're getting back to it. Tata Bowel on this. Bryce Young should be closer to the top 12 quarterbacks in ECR. Yes. Then he is. He sure as hell should not be QB 17. So starting. Completely agree, missed step there by the expert consensus rancors. Derek, take me to Chinatown for your next bet or next play here where you got a RB two firing of them up against a Philadelphia Eagles team off a late win against Tennessee Titans. Yeah. I'm telling people that that Kyle Menongai is just very strong flex this week. And I know the volume has been kind of back and forth and stuff. He's still the one being that Chicago backfield. The reason that I'm going with Menongai and I have no clue. As of the time we're recording this, no clue who the Chicago Bears starting quarterback is going to be this week. But I'm telling you, it doesn't matter. I don't care if Caleb's under center, I don't care if Tyson Beijing's under center. I don't care if it's freaking case kingdom. With Ben Johnson in this matchup is going to do and we've seen him do this in week one. We saw this last year when the matchup called for it, he is going to try to run the freaking ball down the Eagles throats and they don't have the run defense to stop him. If he wants to do that and try to impose his will. And that's why I think Kyle Menongai is a very strong flex. Is he, has he gotten a lot of red zone usage? No. He's gotten three red zone rushing attempts out of the 11 total between him and Swift. But there is red zone equity there. Is it a ton? No. Can he still score a touchdown this week and be a very strong flex? Yes. As well as if you look at the matchup, Seth, quietly through two weeks, the Eagles run defense. He's given up the ninth highest explosive run rate, the fifth most yards are to contact for attempt and the fifth highest mistackle rate. All this says, if you're Benny Johnson is saying, okay, I don't care who we got under center. We're running the ball. Probably a freaking like 35 times this week combined between our two backs. If not more, if we get up in a positive game script and the Eagles are trailing, I'm not projecting it that way. But I think Kyle Menongai is going to walk out of this game with it. We're in the realm of 12 to 15 opportunities on the ground. And if he gets in the end zone, we're discussing a guy that probably a top 24 running back if he scores a touchdown. Yeah. You look at what the running backs have done as a whole against Philly as of late, JCM in week one. He only took 16 of the 27 carries for Washington, still 63 yards and a touchdown though caught a target. And then last week, the Titans actually found something on the ground a little bit with Tony Pollard, right, 14 for 64, Taijah Spears, 741, caught two passes for 29 yards. So I do agree. I think it's a really good spot for him. I think the overall volume of plays maybe goes down a little bit with a second or third string signal caller under center, which could maybe hurt some of those opportunities. My biggest frustration with this Chicago offense is like, what was going on in the off season because I didn't think Kyle Menongai was going to be healthy and ready to go. I mean, he was off my draft board for a majority of it and all of a sudden, he's looking spy here early in the season. That's fair. I mean, I thought you were going to take this into what in the press tailor are we doing here? Oh, well, that too. Yeah. I don't want to be real. I'm going to get more of this. Yeah. Ben Johnson has to take back over the reins and be the loudest voice in the room and say, look, like, we need to stop doing stupid stuff. But to your Kyle Menongai point, yeah, man, I mean, like we all walked into it saying, okay, what kind of injury does he have, how long does this affect him? And he bounced back much faster than I think any of us thought he would, especially coming out the gate in week one and having a banner week and then still being a very big factor in this backfield. So I agree with you. Yeah, press Taylor, dude, he's always kind of done this. I don't understand why he still has a job in the freaking NFL, Seth. I, I, I die, I don't get it. I don't get it. Don't get it. Some people are going to interview. You know what I mean? I don't think that's me. But some people out there are going to be set for hands and son to be set for nepotism. Folks, if you want a chance to win the ultimate symbol of fantasy football glory, the fantasy football championship belt, courtesy of our good friends over at trophy smack is on the line, the number one destination of epic fantasy football hardware, of course, is trophy smacking. If you are that lucky winner, Derek, let's go ahead. You got three wide receivers for us this week and one staying in this same matchup between Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears. Yeah, man. I think Don Tabby and Wix is a very strong play this week. You look at how he's open the season 74, 73 receiving arts, opened the season 2.72 yards Baratron, a 23.1% first read share. He's the clear wide receiver to in the Philadelphia Eagles offense. The Kai Limon has just been shoved to the side by Don Tabby and Wix. Now with the injury to Dallas Goddard and they're going to be starting Johnny Frickin month this week. Even if Zachards is active, I don't think he's going to play a ton of snaps. I mean, you got to get up to speed in the offense. You also have to like, we have to prove that he's healthy. So you're looking at an Eagles passing attack that is consolidated down pretty much to Devonta Smith and Don Tabby and Wix going against a secondary Seth that has given up the most yards per target to perimeter wide receivers, wheels freaking up for Don Tabby and Wix this week. Yeah. It's hard not to be excited about Wix. This is a guy you were pretty high on all off season and try to tell people I some tried. I did struggle with it, to be honest, because I felt like sometimes we've seen these Packers wide receivers leave and go other places and we've heard that also you're in my dog Limon love too. I was much lower on Limon than I think pretty much most people like I was out on him for dynasty at cost, but I was definitely a little bit more interested in redraft. I will agree with that and Wix, I mean, 10 targets already through two games. And I think the big thing that gives him maybe some potential, even more value there. He is right now leading all Eagles wide receivers in red zone targets, right? He has two of them. One per game. Dallas Goddard. He's second on that list with two. And so you know what I mean? It's making even more opportunities for a potential breakout game from Wix. Don Tavine Wix, a very strong wide receiver three that honestly could be a wide receiver two in your lineups and where you drafted him in the off season and where he's at on your depth chart. You're playing him as a wide receiver three or a flex and he is going to outplay that. Derek, where you are right on Don Tavine Wix, you weren't so right a couple weeks ago on your love or lack of love for your boy down there in the bio. Yeah, man. I wasn't in on Devon Bailey. I even tweeted this out the other day, taken an L lap, as it were. Yeah. I liked it though. You don't see many of those. I mean, you can't enjoy the victory laps. We can't stretch the hamstrings to sit and run those victory laps if you're not also willing to sit here and eat the L. Like we all have to sit here and pull the James Winston and we got to eat the L sometimes. If this is going to be the case, you can't have it both ways. It's just ignore when you miss on players and I missed on Devon Bailey. Like, I'm not sky high on him. I think this week he is a very strong flex. He's wide receiver 36 and ECR. I think that's appropriate. But if you were to tell me like he produces much like Don Tavine Wix as a wide receiver two this week, I won't be surprised because he's wide receiver 15 and fantasy points per game. Seth and this past, happy, New Orleans Saints offense, where his per route metrics aren't great. He has a 17.8% target share 1.49 yards per out run. He is carrying almost a 23% first read share. He has been the clear number two option in the Saints passing attack above Bryce Lance, above John Johnson. I didn't see those things coming. So I'm taking the L there. But I think it's a W for everybody that picked him up off the waiver wire and is looking to start him this week because he's going against the past defenses that allowed the second most shots per target to opposing slot wide receivers. And Tyler Schuck is going to keep doing what Tyler Schuck has done throughout the entirety of this season. Again, we talked about how pass happy the Carolina Panthers have been right behind them, Seth and neutral passing rate are the New Orleans Saints, chucking it at 68.2% of their neutral plays. So Tyler Schuck is not going to slow down throw in the ball. Also if you put up in how we're projecting this game and Devon Valle's outcome this week, Travis Hien is now on the injury report with the hamstring issue. Thomas Camaro looks like he is dust. They cannot run the ball. They're going to throw the ball. Valle is going to be a big part of that. So yes, I think he's a very strong wide receiver three flex play. And again, another player that is going to get ranked as a wide receiver three and put into lineups as a wide receiver three or a flex. But when it's all said and done in fantasy streets, he has been a wide receiver two for two games and he could continue to produce like that this week. I especially like the statistics you threw out about the first read share because I think that's going to be crucial in this game against Vegas because not only do they have pros be out there, but quickly pays to helping him get out of the, you know, get after the past or even more. So I think it's going to be a lot of quick reads here for Tyler Schuck, the current leader in the NFL in passing yards through two weeks and Valle, Derek, you want to take a guess where he is among wide receivers in targets this season? Well, six, 11th, okay, pretty close, though, you know, you know, I mean, like he's having a really strong season. He had a good end of the season before he got banged up late too. So Devon Valle in lineups this week for downtown Derek Brown. Let's go ahead. You got one more receiver you'd like to spotlight kind of another player who went under the radar in drafts and all the sun is bidding to be in fantasy manager's lineups this week. Did he miss you, man, dude, he's getting volume. This is a game script and a game environment where the jets are going to have to keep pace with the lion's offense. And that is going to force Geno to chuck the ball. And Adnan Mitchell has been getting a crap ton of volume, man, 23.1% target cheer. He's been producing two on a per route basis, 2.16 yards per route run, a 25% first read cheer. And when he does connect, it's been big plays because he has a 15.7 A dot, dude. So like when he hits and catches the freaking ball, he is going to produce big time yardage. And he's got four deep targets, which is accounted for 26.6% of his target volume. He's going up against a Detroit lion's secondary that's given up the 13th most yards per target and the 12th most fantasy points per target, two perimeter wide receivers, 80 Mitchell. Another player that right now, wide receiver 31 and ECR where he's a wide receiver three or a flex play. And I keep hammering this point because all three of these guys are living in this type of area code. And this week considering their usage, the matchups and everything in between, we can flip over the cards after this week and be like, oh my god, all three of these guys are inside the top 24 wide receivers in scoring this week. Yeah, if you were savvy in your late rounds and went after these players, or if you've just been working that way or why, right, and picked them up, you're in really good hands this week. Dude, just with all the major secondary, it feels almost like a by-week, doesn't it, Seth? Where it's like, oh man, I'm sorry, I don't mean to cut you off, but doesn't all this analysis and the things we're running through, doesn't this show feel because of all of the injuries and underperformance and everything going sideways, doesn't this list in this show feel like a show we would be doing it like week 11, but it's only week three, 100% in my lineups feel that. We're all feeling it. These players would be must starts for me in a couple of my lineups. That's where I'm already at because of some of these injuries I've had to players like Puka and neighbors and you know, trying to just scrap together pieces and do you feel better by starting Roma Dunes? Are you one of these guys? Do you feel better about starting Luther Burton or one of these guys? Yeah. Yeah. And like you look at this line secondary, Kirby, Joseph, Brian, Branch, they were clear to practice this week. Still have a couple of minutes to help before they're even back. And Maddox is out now too, exactly so that that's really going to hurt them and you look at what this secondary, even with Maddox has allowed for the number two option in receiving games. Alaska Weeks, Devon, Veile, week one, seven receptions on nine targets, 69 yards and a touchdown. And then last week, Keon Corbin, six for 63 over like dude, that's where we are right now. Like this lion's secondary and their defense, maybe if we can get branch and we can get Kirby, Joseph back, maybe it can improve, but right now it is going to be a liability for the rest of the season. And you want to fire up your fancy football wider receivers against them. So I cannot argue at all about really any of those wider receivers in 80 Mitchell. He's been cash and tickets for me this season. So I'm riding with you there and Derek, I want to ride with you on this next one because I got the jersey in the closet. I have the card back over on the shelf somewhere as well as his rookie card. I've been all in on this guy for a long time. And suddenly it seems like maybe there's actually some fantasy value in Pittsburgh at the Titan position. You get them in your line up, baby, it is ECR Titan 17. And I understand why because outside of him, the Steelers offense has been a dumpster fire. It's been garbage. But again, going to the rankings and stuff, do you feel better starting a Pat Fryer Mute versus a John Johnson, a Coulston Lovelin, a Mark Andrews, Harold Fanon, any one of these guys? We just saw what Dalton Schultz did to the Bengals defense. And we've seen that 12 for 140. Exactly. It pulled his best Brock Mowers impression, Seth. And I'm not saying that Pat Fryer Mute does that this week, but the positives outside of the matchup, which we'll get to in a second working in his favor, Michael Pittman Jr. might be back this week, but he's not going to be 100%. The foot is still not 100%. DK Metcalf is going to get shadowed by DJ Turner in this game. And in two games last year, DJ Turner owned him, held him under 50 receiving arts in both of those games, some fading Metcalf. And outside of that, who is Eric Rogers throwing the freaking ball to this week? I think it's going to be a lot of Pat Fryer Mute early and often against a defense for Cincinnati that, again, we talked about the Dalton Schultz of it all, overall in two games, they've given up the ninth most charts per target, the sixth most fantasy points per target, two tight ends. You even go back into last year, year before, year before, year before. They've been bad versus tight ends for multiple seasons. And yes, this is not just, the previous years over all of those years are a Lu Anorumo thing. But also, the Bengals linebackers are still hot garbage. This defense is better, but that's a Dexter Lawrence takes. That's a DJ Turner take. That is not their linebacking group. So Pat Fryer Mute, and again, where Aaron Rogers is at in his career right now, Seth? He can't throw the ball downfield. He has no juice on it. So he's going to pepper the shortened intermediate with Pat Fryer Mute early, often and everywhere this week. Michael Pittman Jr. banged up, you know, do you really want to trust Roman Wilson? No. I will say, Jeremy Bernard looked good. And that was the one drive. The Steelers really were cooking where Bernard had four to five catches on just one go there. But he won't be in the line up. Michael Pittman Jr. is back this week. He won't even be playing. Yeah. Yeah. It's fair. So one thing that's great about Aaron Rogers is that he's getting Pat Fryer Mute involved and making sure that he's on the field because Pat Fryer Mute through the last couple years have kind of been a ghost in this office, right? That was an Arthur Smith problem. Yeah. His love of going to Washington. So. Yeah. It's true. And so I'm liking what Pat Fryer Mute is doing out here. And you look again, let's go back to Red Zone targets. And I keep bringing that stat up because those are valuable targets. That Fryer Mute is the only Steelers player with any Red Zone targets right now. Two. He has two. That's it. But again, to your point though, touchdowns are the lifeblood of tight ends if they can have on any given week, any tight end can get 30 receiving yards, two or three catches, and a touchdown. And they're probably a fringe tied in one. 100%. I mean, look at fryer Mute's, I mean, just look at him right now. With only a 12% target share, he had a touchdown and stuff. He has two Red Zone targets right now currently set. He's tied in 12 and fantasy points per game. He's illustrating the point that we're making. If you score a touchdown and in PPR leagues, you get three for 30, that's 12 points. You're probably a tight end one in most weeks, if not top 15 and a very serviceable streamer that should be ranked above tight end 17 and ECR rate. You need your pat. He's a Pennsylvania guy. He played out at Penn State. We got a big game against the bangles this weekend. You work the Penn State. You work the Penn State at every one every time Pennsylvania loves a state. You know, he's got your big I'm down to your nose, Seth sometimes we are not. Well, we are officially out of here. FAQs

Bryce Chung has strong production with top two wide receivers who are healthy and playing in clean pockets. He ranks highly in passing yards per game and quarterback rating, and his team's poor defense allows for more opportunities. While his target and accuracy rates are low, his current performance and matchup make him a viable QB1 option.

Yes, Kyle Middleton is a strong flex due to the Eagles' weak run defense, which has given up the most explosive run rates and high mistackle rates. Even with uncertainty over the starting quarterback, the volume of carries and red zone opportunities make him a high-impact flex play.
