Look at like we're going to have a real situation. As we are coming to you live at 11, 21 PM Eastern time, Texas Tech is just scored with about a minute left in the fourth quarter. It seems as though they will avert disaster. We will update you on that and anything else, but yeah, we're just going to go ahead and start the top five matchup that absolutely delivered after it looks like it could have been a snoozer. Um, big little where it started, where it finished, what's, what's on the top of mind as we are in the minutes after the conclusion of Texas storming back, 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win 24 to 23 against the Ohio State program that bounced them in the college football playoff semi finals two years ago and downed them in the season opener last year, 14 to seven, a little bit of revenge, a little bit of breakthrough. I don't know. I feel very raw. Where are you at with this one? Shoke. Like, we're going, we're going right to go in right to game was one. Game was lost. Shoke. You had a, they were up 23 to three to start the fourth quarter and they lost. Like, I mean, full credit to Texas because that offense wasn't doing anything for the first two and a half quarters of that game. And my initial reaction just watching it live, there's so much other stuff going on. It's like you're paying 100% attention to it, but like, the feeling I got was Sark was doing the thing where he was kind of trying to remote control archmaning for the first two quarters where it was like he wanted him to be doing this, this, this, this, this. And Arch wasn't doing very well. And then I feel like in the second half, he kind of took the reins off a little bit and told Arch just go play football and just kind of, you know, a little Archie football stuff going on. And Arch got comfortable. He started, you know, making plays, he started playing better because Arch was really bad. And he was two, two and a quarter quarters of this game. He was missing a lot of throws. And then like defensively, I think Will Must Champ deserves a lot of credit. And I was getting into arguments with some of our editors in Slack about this who are just not very happy with the defensive game plan. Ohio State scored 23 points. Seven of them came right off the first jump off a turnover on the first play in which they had a very short field. You really, in reality, held Ohio State to one touchdown and three field goals on the night. You do that. You did an excellent job. That defense kept Ohio, or kept Texas in the game the entire night and gave the Longhorn's offense a chance to do something in the fourth quarter to get back into the game. So yeah, terrific come back by Texas, a huge moment for Texas. It kind of feels like, you know, a monkey off their back that they haven't, you know, like a Reese's monkey that dances on a pole off of their back. And that is a huge win for them. It's a huge win for Arch. It's a huge win for Sark. It's a huge win for everybody in Austin and if you're Ohio State, you've got to be just completely dazed right now because you thought that game was won. And then you just like got completely clowned in the fourth quarter. Yeah, I, it's hard to use a word other than choke like you have to give credit for staying in the fight, right? Like for, for really getting and bowing up when they were in the, like, especially like in the in the high red zone, like Ohio State was in scoring territory so many times and they had to settle for field goals and like that, that really is what kept, kept Texas in the game. Like in the open field, Texas defense wasn't doing a great job. But you know yards are in points and Ohio State did not turn those yards into points if they had, like if, if, if Sam puts the ball on the right shoulder in two of those in zone throws, right? Or if they get one more, if they get one more catch, this thing is probably out of reach. Also, like in the end of game situation, when did Texas get the ball at the one? I mean, dude. Uh, I really think like, I, you know, let him score. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. That's not true. You might think they have Devin McEwitt and I have two timeouts and all I need to fuel goal. He was like, that one, I don't, I, how about this? I, right off the top, I was wondering if he was taking the long game position of not going total crazy, do everything perfect because this is week two. How about Woody have coached it differently if this was the college football playoff? I mean, I, I think it's a pretty meaningful game. Like you, you win this, the, the, the, the chance you get a buy or a home game is, is, you know, like pretty decent in the playoff. I, I, I just think he played that wrong, you know, like, like if you let them score, you have roughly two minutes and two timeouts. You've moved the ball into fuel goal territory all night. That has not been an issue for you. Now, punching in the end zone, what you don't need to do right now, that's been an issue. Getting into fuel goal territory and you could probably tell me, hey, Texas would play it differently. If they were essentially defending against fuel goal territory, sure, possibly, but it's still more open field for those receivers to operate in. I, yeah, I think that was bad, honestly, I get what you're saying to play it bad to at the end. Or like, hey, we think our guys could go out there and punch it out. Are we sure they're not going to jump off sides? Like, I don't know. I just, I think that in general, I understand the principle of the let them score school. I just, it, it, it rubs me the wrong way, but that's, what do you think the chance there is that they score a touchdown on first and goal from the one? Very high. Yeah. Like probably 80 something, especially because I mean, how, how was it in Austin tonight? Like near 100 degrees? Also, it's probably higher than that because there's no fuel goal option, right? Like they have to go for the touchdown. So you're getting all four downs and I like, Ohio State's defense was very gas. Like after like the first, the final 22 minutes of the game, I think Ohio State's defense was on the field for 80% of it. And it's like 100 degrees in the end of the game, like they were warned to hell down. They should have let up score because like I say, you should, I understand your theory there, but it doesn't make sense to me because if that was what his decision was, that's an even worse decision. You still got, no, you've still got road games against Iowa, Indiana, USC. You've got to play Oregon. You've got to play Michigan. You can't sit there and be like, I can afford to lose this game. No, I don't think it's an I can afford to lose it. I'm not going to have this pinned on me and waste another minute on this. It was a stray thought. It is like not even something that's on my notepad from this game. So I don't want this, I, the school of let them score. I'm just not on. And that's across the board, you know, and so I get it. I would have rather let Kanye out of Jackson go punch at the ball. You know, I would have something go out there and make a play like that's, that's kind of a little bit where I'm at where I just mentally, I would hope that my guys could go out there and do their best to be able to execute to the within the context of not letting them score. If he gets the situation again, I'm confident that, you know, let's score. Yes, correct. All right. So what about who? So Jeremiah Smith, Jeremiah Smith, Jeremiah Smith looks like he's going to take over this game, looks like this game is all going to be about Jeremiah Smith. Is this a real thing that the rest of this Ohio State offense were sort of struggling to grasp it? Who the other bananas are? I mean, I, I thought saying was like okay, but not amazing at times, like he, he had a lot of time to throw on some of these throws and made some good ones, you know, and in the red zone, I don't think he was as precise, right? Like they, they've got a wide open one in that pop pass that he overthrows like that. That's probably a game and if he hits like that, that's, that's a layup. You got to hit that. I'll say this correlation isn't necessarily causation, but to your point, Ohio State has lost three of its last four games. All right. The only win was last week against all state against Indiana. Jeremiah Smith had eight catches for 144 yards against Miami. He had seven catches for 157 yards. Tonight, he had eight catches for 164 yards. Yeah. I mean, it seems that like the elite defense has seemed to have an idea of where we can't really stop him. We're going to let him do what he's going to do, but we're going to stop everybody else. I mean, you may want to just throw to him more, he had, he had, he had 11 yards of target. Mm-hmm. Like just build the whole offense out of Jeremiah Smith. Maybe lead in to just throw to him constantly, joking, obviously, but I thought of a queue and did some decent things for them, but not enough. He got open on that one pop pass. Now, part of that's like it was skimmed, but like, say and missed it, you know? I, this just comes down to, they didn't score when they were in the scoring zone, you know? I mean, like just going through these drives and it's like, man, like this should be over, you know? Like they're not really that tech saying around 'cause they're up 20 points going into the fourth quarter, but, you know, okay, whatever on the first try, they scored three. It was a nice touchdown drive, okay? Then they turn it over on down to the Texas 12. Then they settle for a field goal at the Texas 12. Then they actually punch it in, all right? Then they have to punt from the Texas 39, which I thought was like a little crazy, to be honest, but at the, you know, also Texas offensive sucked until that point, so I guess I can't understand. Yeah, like, at that point, Patricia had, then a pretty nice job with the chalk. Then you kick a field goal, drive-ins of the Texas 30, okay? Then you get down to the Texas 27, and you miss the field goal, didn't it? Do you have a muff punt, too, I think, in here or something? - Oh, yeah, that was one of Texas's, like that was how Texas was able to get the easy score. - Yeah, like that, that was an important thing. - Yeah, I mean, yeah, like we've talked about it, we talked about it this week. One of the biggest problems Sark's teams have had are scoring in the red zone, and Bud just said it. Well, I honestly had five red zone possessions left with 20 points. Texas had four, had 24, at one by a point. Texas finished all their drives, right? - And is it worth considering that Ohio State's defense after being on the field for that long? You mentioned the heat and everything else. Do you think it would play out like that again? In a vacuum, in a college football playoff game, in a bowl game? - I mean, they played instead of pretty evenly, like if you look at the whole game, right? So, I don't know who it would win. I mean, how many plays did they defend? - Like is Texas gonna be full-scaled here from this win? - This is, this is what it's called. - No, I don't think so. Like is Texas gonna play a better team than Ohio State this year? No. - This is the third time they've played in three years, and it's been two one-score games, and then the other one was a one-score game until like a pick six or a fumble six at the very end. Like, these two teams are closely, they're very close. It's not like Texas is beginning to dorks ball off, but like, Georgia blows the doors off of Texas. Ohio State hasn't. - Fun game. - Yeah, that's fair. - Fun game. All right, what about the arch's part of this? Not great early? - Oh, he was banned. - Yeah. - He missed some stuff early. They also had two pretty bad drops on him early. - Yeah. - Like, Coleman's got to catch that damn ball. Like, we're not paying you three million or whatever he's making, you know, to not catch that one, dude. Come on. Like, they were dropping balls and he was just missing guys. Like, over the middle, like, deep on like the RPOs and Sam was doing the same thing a little bit too. On some of those, like, they were pulling really quickly and just firing and overthrowing guys by like five, 10 yards. It was, it was not a well played game by either quarterback for this one. Although, Arch God is acting together late and played much better. But I still, if you go back and you grade the whole thing, I would say this is like a C performance. - Were you surprised by how, like, just, I mean, I know Texas has a lot of lateral stuff and a lot of, you know, window dressing and eye candy. Were you surprised by how lateral they were early? - I thought it was disappointing. - Well, also, like, when they were doing it, Ohio State was, like, Ohio State's corners were way more physical than Texas was receiving the block. And eventually, they just kind of got away from it. Like, okay, like, we got to just drop back so we could throw the football, like, down the field a little bit. - Right, which ended up working out better, especially when they started working - Much better with the feet. - Yeah, which is like, hey, let's go this way. Not this way. - Our research shows that if you don't block it all on screens, screens that you don't work with. - Yeah. - I mean, you just, 'cause they do have some dirt bikes out there and dirt bikes aren't good perimeter blockers historically. There are those who obviously can prove that otherwise. But yeah, just, you thought this was going one way and then all of the sudden it all flipped the other fun game. And now Texas is to put it in its back pocket. I bet you won't hear Steve Sarkesian talking about non-conference scheduling and something that they're just never gonna do again, right? What wasn't that the coming down the stretch last year? We're not gonna be valued at our nine wins then we're just gonna play ball state every year, you know, like something along those lines. But now I think it'll be a little bit more about, let's let the results speak for themselves on the field. - Along those lines with what Sabin said on game day this morning. - I don't know what Sabin said on game day and I mean that honestly. - He said that some losses are better than some wins. So I need to know what was more impressive here was that Texas's Winner Ohio State's loss. - Whoa. Are you asking me? - I'm asking you both, we're both, we're all three of us are here. - Okay, what was more, what was, God, that was a good quality loss. - It was. - God, that was a good quality loss. - The pro, the pro. - You lost by point on the road to a top five team and you covered, that's a quality loss. - Guys, I think Ohio State should move up. That is such a quality loss. I think we've got to find a way to bump the butt guys up in the rankings. - It's a great point. - The true quality loss formula here, crap. We just got to move them up. I do think that was an awesome game. It was not always a well played game, but it was entertaining obviously with the swings. We want more of those games, right? I know it's not really the committee's job to dictate, hey, let's get more knock-over-scam scheduled, but they're pretty intertwined with the power of burbers of the sport. I would like to see them, now look, if Ohio State goes and screws around and beats a four and eight big 10 team by one and it has to go to overtime with two other crappy ones and then loses to a four and eight one in a game that wasn't really all that close like Texas did last year. Then you know what, no, that should probably carry some weight and they should not make the playout if they're in a tie-butter scenario. But if they play pretty darn good football and they're sitting there with a one point Texas loss, then I think I've just pointed to see them left out over that. - But the schedule's so tough that it's just hard for me as a fan in the 2026 season to not think that Ohio State's not gonna have the opportunities to prove that they're Ohio freaking state multiple times over against the rest of the schedule. Now to your point, now we have the not-in-threaties. - Yeah, I think Ohio State is gonna have it. - Right? - Well, I probably is pretty good here, but it's not perfect in this dressing room. So I admit exactly what you're doing. - Are you in Brent Stover's dressing room right now? - No, no, but I might be wearing Brent Stover's tie. - Okay, thanks Brent. We appreciate it. And tennis taking over, taking over for the Oregon Oklahoma State game, which also got moved and then got moved again because UCF Pit was in a weather delay and then got moved, chaotic day in college football, lots to get to. - UCF Pit was like the worst viewing experience the day by the way. - Do you know what I said? Is that rain? Oh my god. I was like, yeah, Angles scored no touchdowns in this game that used up all their touchdown tokens in the rain delay, you know? - Yeah. - Just, no thank you. All right, coming up on the other side. Michigan, what to make of the Michigan Wolverines and their disjointed resume and Oklahoma? Are they still worth being a top 15, 20, 25 team? Bryce Underwood came out, honestly early, I thought it was gonna be a big Bryce Underwood sort of statement game and then he, you know, offense and Bryce kind of went back to doing some of the same things that we saw in the opener against Western Michigan. But if you just strip away the, you know, the ups and downs of this game against Oklahoma where I think the Oklahoma offense might be my biggest headline here, but the Michigan Wolverines had a controversial last second bail Mary against Western Michigan and everybody bailed, we're like, we bailed on Michigan. Now they come roaring back and they beat a sooner's team that we thought was among the 15 best teams in the country. So bud. But later in the show, we're going to be re-ranked. I know you have to get back to the CBS Sports Network desk and your multi-screen experience. I'm sure that everyone's got the mothership on one of the screens. You'll be seeing Bud soon. But how do you wrestle the Michigan and Oklahoma's that we saw on Saturday and how it compares to your expectations of how these teams stack up against the rest of the country? I have a really hard time not keeping Oklahoma in the top 15 with how good that defense is. They're just going to get so many stops. And the offense, it is what it is. I think you have some limitations on the offensive line, especially with one of the injuries they had. To left tackle. And materials, just like guys, he doesn't always look in the right spot. Sometimes he throws a little late, right? And it's just like not always on. Like, I don't care how many workout videos he does are all this nonsense about how my throwing motion is fixed and it's like, you're throwing motion, you're throwing motion, man. Like, show me the guys who have really truly improved their throwing motion at like 24 or 24 years old. Like, you work in all the private quarterback coaches and all that stuff, but it's like, it is what it is. Like, he's not a difference maker at quarterback. He's not terrible. But he's not special, you know? And we talked all offseason about how in the really big games-- Michigan-- sorry, Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon for Michigan, which is a hell of a schedule. They have a real buffer game on the backside of all four of those games, right? You could run the absolute piss at a Bryce Underwood in those four games if you need to. And we talked about this all offseason. I think this is a very different offense if you're given Bryce Underwood 10, 12, 14, today, 16 carries. And that's the taking out the sacks. I'm going to have 18 with-- 18 carries, yeah. I mean, and Oklahoma had two sacks like that. That's what they had to do. It's what they did. It wasn't pretty. The passing game is still nowhere close. But I think his legs kept Oklahoma from attacking probably quite as much as they wanted to. They had to play a little more flat-footed. They had respect to the run, some of the misdirection stuff. And it's kind of weird to say, I thought, Jason Beck called a hell of a game to score 17 points. But honestly, I kind of think so. Well, he had them off-balance in the first half. Yeah, in the first half, he kind of had them guessing wrong and creating some open lanes for Marshall for Bryce. It was good. I would agree with that. And honestly, Michigan was kind of-- this is where the passing game is. But they were kind of close to having a couple of big plays on the sideline that were just barely out of balance. And those actually were some decent throws by Bryce. So if you tell me that by mid-October, this starts clicking a little more, I could buy that, I guess. But in the biggest games, because they had that cupcake or just by week or nobody on the backside, it's going to be 2006 T-Bo style with Bryce underwritten. I think it should be. And I think that was pretty obvious in the offseason. I just think he was going to work this well after watching what we've won. It's a not-situation, because, as you mentioned, the offense was good in the first half, or at least compared to what it had looked like against Western Michigan. Had a plan. Had a plan. It felt like they were about a step ahead. It felt like Oklahoma was a step slow, you know? Yeah, because they did change things up from Western Michigan. Clearly, they weren't doing anything last week that they were doing this week. And they just really struggled last week, and it kind of nearly killed them. But then, you know, so they came out with something. Oklahoma was not entirely ready for it. They were using Bryce Moore as a running back for the back, and they were doing different things in the passing game. And then I felt like, from watching it, at halftime, Oklahoma adjusted. You came out in the second half, and the Michigan offense wasn't nearly as effective, because now Oklahoma had planned for it and figured out how to stop it and slow it down. The problem was that their offense just wasn't able to do anything in all day. And that's what I said about Michigan last week. All as bad as the offense was, their defense looked fine. And their defense looked fine again today. And it's weird, because like Bud said, he wouldn't dock Oklahoma out of the top 15. And it's like, I feel like at this point, you're one in one, I can understand people knocking him out. And I would probably do it with such a small sample size. But at the same time, the Oklahoma we saw today really wasn't any different than the Oklahoma we saw last year. And that team got to the day and playoff. Right. They are great on defense. That defense keeps them in every game. And if Matier can make enough plays to win the game, they will win it. And really, the entire offense revolves around John Matier, because the run game really didn't exist today when it wasn't John Matier. In the passing game, Rocky Bears took Isaiah Centaneous role from last year as just being the guy running up the seam and him hitting him on those little crossers. It's the same offense as last year. It's just they changed some of the personnel and it's Matier's, it has to really do everything. And it's hard. It's really hard when you play other really good teams to win that way. Like we saw when they got to the playoff and they played Alabama, they lost that game. Their offense was not good enough. So this is a team that I'm not going to write off. Like they can still get to the playoff. They could still have a really good season because that defense is so phenomenal. But man, they didn't look very good today. - Get your favorite Oklahoma fan in your life and find a way to provide them with the toolbox necessary for the anxiety that's going to come with this team. Because the defense is going to have them in every single game and you're going to be waiting on John Matier to make the play for your team or the play for the other team in every single game. I mean, that is going to be the playing with fire life of an Oklahoma fan because I agree with you. Oh, by the way, Kip Lewis going out with the right leg injury, right? Is that correct? - I don't know what leg it was, but he got hurt. - That's significant. That's an all-American caliber player who, you know, within the, we expect Oklahoma's defense to have a certain standard and there's all-American candidates all around, but he was one of them. And so that was at least something that did not have a factor on the game and should definitely be something monitored moving forward. I just, I think that we'll get to the right. The ranking stock is a little bit later and a little bit more, I think, semantics on this. I expect Oklahoma will have opportunities to win games against quality opponents, to boost their stock or resume or whatever else it is. But it is going to come down to whether John Matier makes a play for their team or the other team and today it was for the other team. It was a bad pick in the wrong spot at the wrong time. - I mean, there's a really good change. - Don't be surprised. Go ahead, Tom. - I was gonna say, don't be surprised if it's the same exact story for Michigan on here. It's gonna come down to whether Bryce Underwood makes a good play for the team or a bad play for the team. - All right, now if you're Michigan, do you run 'em against Penn State? And just basically, well, but Indiana's the week after. - I need to win Penn State. - Right, I think so too. - Yeah, I think it's. - If I have to punt the Indiana game, I'll punt the Indiana game. - I think it's run against Penn State and pray. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Let's see, so Oklahoma's defense, Oklahoma's offense. The Ben Arbuckle story is not paid out as I thought it would going into the last season. - No? - Yeah, Mateer's costing him some money, for sure. - Baby, that's it. - He also chose Mateer and came with him. So he kind of knew what he was getting into and he's what he is. Like, he's a good runner, tough guy. - An extremely funny college football result, also. - No doubt. - To have Michigan. We talked about that, I think even in big game breakdown, like wouldn't it be funny if Michigan wins low ugly, like low scoring games, something that looks just like the Western Michigan game, and then they just become this team. - They can't keep getting away with this. - Type team. - Yeah, I, we also said that this is about the only way Michigan can seeably win this. - Yeah. - You know, control the ball, run it, let Mateer throw it to you. Like, that's a horrendous pick, he throws. Like, you just can't, you can't miss that bad in that league. - We know what the next logical step is here, right? Based on today's results, Oklahoma beats Texas and Red River. - Oh, yes. So I set an alarm just like you did for the Kentucky under, which looked like it was dicey, but I was still able to get, thanks to Keel and Russell and the Alabama defense, that might still be good. We need to set an alarm for Oklahoma wins Red River, 'cause that's the way this goes, 100%. - They can also start two and three. - Yeah. - That's probably the most likely result, actually. - All right. Anything else there? - I have to play Georgia before Texas, I forgot. - Yeah, like, they've got to get Fassusie back, because Georgia will smoke that kid they had in their day. - Yeah. - Like that, they, yeah. - Okay, all right, but before you - But the left tackle. - I actually have, I think I have a little more time because it doesn't really make sense for me to head back, half, like, I'm not doing the halftime for sex state and Fresno. Like, Tony Diaz is a legitimate kind of playmaker for them at receiver. Kamari Bolton, he has, I mean, he's not bad, but I don't know if Kamari Bolton's like a game breaker. And I think that I was at his best when they have not necessarily guys going to run for 80 yard touchdowns all the time like Caleb Johnson did. But like, I just don't think he was, I don't think he was good tonight, that's for sure, but I don't think his offense if I was good either. So it was problematic. I don't, I don't know if he's capable of making it happen if it's not there for him. And that could be a problem for them going for it also. But Hank Brown, like, all things considered wasn't terrible, but he just wasn't good enough. And then on the other side, failing Raynor had made some plays. Like Iowa State's offense to me was not overly impressive. They just, they scored the 13 points. They were able to slow down that offense enough. And then just in the end, they didn't have enough to keep them from getting that field goal late to win it. And it's just, yeah, I don't, I don't, you have to give credit to Iowa State for keeping this thing close, but I don't really think either of these teams look very impressive. The, I felt like I was looking up for a lot of Jalen Raynor scramble drills, you know, where he did like 20 yards of running and the pass was for six yards to a tight end, who had just been like, made himself open. The run game, as you were talking about, the fact that this was a, this was an Iowa defensive front that was the one kind of unanswered question here. And I thought Iowa State ran the ball well, you know, or at least you're relatively in any lower scoring game, ran the ball effectively enough to get the game to where they had a shot to win this. They did not make the plays they needed late. I mean, there, there was a little bit of this where it felt like it was sliding away from them. But the fact that they put themselves in the position, you know, there's, there's no moral victories in a rivalry game. But certainly it's, I will say this, we were on this program multiple times suggesting the idea that Iowa State is the worst power conference team. I'm not ready to back that up right now. So I am ready to walk that back reconsider and begin a more healthy debate to go into the mechanic and to bring that kind of effort, that kind of performance. Like sometimes the different, when we're talking about the worst, no, if you're, if you're being able to, to raise your level of play beyond what the level of talent is on paper, you're not the worst. You know, there's, there's some level of better that you are even with teams that are down there in that bottom tier. We'll see where Iowa State goes from here. How about Camario Taylor, uh, felt like a nation got to, it got to know a very, very fun electric playmaking quarterback from Mississippi State. He was starring early against Minnesota, Mississippi State did a great job of getting control of this game and really be setting themselves up to be able to cruise to a win, something that literally zero teams did against Minnesota in their house last season. Like he's, he's top half and he has to see easy now, I think after just that game. So damn efficient too. Yeah. Like, I mean, over 10 yards in attempt, 16 to 22, and even the run game, he rushed for 86 yards, average six and a half yards per carry, like that was just a very thorough offensive performance from Mississippi State to go on the road and that situation, a program that is just not accustomed to being successful and having that kind of, you know, performances, they've looked like a team that is used to it. Like, they didn't look like there was any learning curve there. They looked out. They came out there and said, yeah, no, we're the better team here. Let's go handle our business and go home, which is precisely what they did. They're very impressive, which is super impressive, considering how many new faces are there. Because while Camario Taylor came on late, this is, as we've detailed here, and a real like build around Camario effort, where, I mean, but I don't want to put words in your mouth because I remember, I heard you say it recently, it's the boomer bust, right? Yeah. Sort of the profile of a lot of the guys they brought in. And on this day, they were all locked in and they were booming. And it was them. They're going to get somebody. That's where I'm at with Mississippi State that they played too many of the good teams for me to think they're really going to like challenge for the SEC title or anything, but they are going to ruin someone's season because of that quarterback and the confidence that that team showed here in this spot. Agreed. Yeah. Like that. That's, he's just awesome. Minnesota is not great, but they don't suck. No. And like, they've been very good at home. Like that, that's a really impressive win. Yeah. They've had winning records in big 10th level last three years. They're like, I mid tier, big 10 team. I mean, they just lost to a team that's been two in 22 in the SEC the last three years. Yeah. I mean. Right. Like Shul says, but keep, keep saying Mississippi State was Bimmerbust in the portal. What if it's all boom? What if it is all boom? That's why I said we don't know. That's why we say it. Yeah. It's like a lot against Louisiana Monroe. You're not going to believe this guys, but the thing about Bimmerbust is it could be boom or it could be bust or it could be somewhere in between. You don't know. Um, I, the dumbest thought that I had today was looking at the SEC big 10 scoreboard. And then also considering the networks they were on, like on the first you had the, it's like, Oh, Michigan defended home turf on Fox. And it's like, Oh, I'm going to start a light one. Get away. And then it's like, Oh, Texas. Okay. They defended home turf on, but on the SEC's day on this one. I guess the SEC ends up claiming match up to match up three SEC big 10 good day for SEC Mississippi state done change the college football playoff picture necessarily in the same way that like Oregon dropping, for example, it's going to be a picture, you know, like there's, there's some other pieces there that I think, you know, if you wanted to nitpick it pin states performance, for example, maybe even though they lost with Oklahoma at the very beginning of the day. And as we're sitting here on the instant reaction show feels like it was a good day for the South Eastern Conference and Mississippi states win in Minnesota was definitely a part of that. Oh, totally. Yeah. I mean, I don't think yes. He's guaranteed to get five in now because Oklahoma did, you know, they lost Michigan. But I think it's a pretty good day for you to see like Texas lose, if Texas had continued to just crap the bed like they had been, that would have been a pretty bad day regardless of the Orioles. Let's keep it. I mean, the SEC played seven games against power for conferences this week, assuming the Arkansas Utah game continues to go the way it's going. Yeah. That's the safe assumption. They went five and two, bringing them to eight and two on the season. The big 10 played eight games against power for opponents this week. It went two and six, like the big 10 with Oregon and Ohio State both losing, like I don't know that three teams is guaranteed for the big 10 anymore. Yeah. We got somebody has to get in though. The thing about a 12 team playoff is you have to put 12 teams in there and you're only could be big 12 teams, but but you're only as good compared to your peers, like you can say someone's not a top 10 team because you in your mind have an idea of what a top 10 team looks like, but that. changes from year to year. I mean, you could all ask backwards into a top 10 spot, the way that things are, especially with the way that the tears seem to be separated this year, with that break maybe in that like 6, 7, 8 range, more so than at the 10, 11, 12 range. - Another winner of this, not in the SEC, Notre Dame. With their top 12 clause, like we had debated in the office, he's like, can they get in a 10 and two? - Right, and I think like we generally thought probably, especially when you factor in the brand name and the fact that they didn't get in last year. I think they gotta be feeling great getting in a 10 and two now. If they, I don't think they're gonna go 10 and two, but like if they did, you know, drop two games, I think they have to be feeling awesome. - Keelyn Russell and Alabama just flipped the switch on Kentucky. Like yes, it 45 to 17, greatly does not represent how tight this game was at one point, but even if they hadn't been able to tack on the last touchdown at 38 to 17, I thought it did represent what was just defensively being opportunistic and taking advantage of the Kentucky mistakes and then Keelyn Russell's playmaking. I don't, I think the distance, yeah, again, what would we make of Alabama, Tom, you're not in your head, I'll let you get first word here. - I mean, Keelyn Russell wasn't great early and then he played great in the second half. I think that's the story of Alabama and I think this game is a very good reflection for me of what my feelings were about Kentucky going into the year in that I think, well, Stein's a very good coach and I think that he can scheme them up in matchups like this. It's just in the long run, I don't think this Kentucky team has the horses to compete with the top DSEC in 2026 and that was like, I feel like this was their season playing out over four quarters. - Yeah, what early on Kentucky like stayed ahead of the chains decently, like they weren't scoring a whole lot, obviously like their defense scored but they weren't like getting in really bad situations and the second half, Bama clamped some of that like the easy access screen stuff and Kentucky faced a lot more like third and seventh plus and their offense in like obvious passing downs when you don't have the threat of the screens and the play action stuff was a disaster. I mean, like they didn't move it at all, they didn't do it, like Bama just clamped them and you just can't give Keelyn like that many bites of the apple. - I don't, I don't think that I have changed my lack of confidence in Alabama. I think I remain very wary of their ceiling. - That's fair. - That's fair, yeah, that's what I said. - Like they can turn it on, their talent is so high at very important positions that they just have individuals that can turn it on you. And I do think that the defensive side of this is interesting and like Kane Womack has kind of become a character that might have a bigger story in the Kaelin DeBoer era than we realize. And while Alabama has its consistency issues, they have a lot of special players. I thought he settled down and played like, ate a lot better. Like, if he plays like, the final 20 minutes for a full 60 minutes, A&M is really dangerous. - All right, good luck. I'm glad he made that did not happen. What did you make of a feisty and frisky start for the Sun Devils at the beginning of this game? And I think they finished out gaining them overall, but plus three in the turnover margin for Arizona State, some, so back breaking mistakes. I mean, it kind of, you know, it looked-- - You picked sixes. - Yeah, they kind of, it's like Arizona State was over-served, you know, and kind of-- - That never happens at Arizona State. There's no such thing as being over-served on that campus. - No, but they were there. They were in it, and then they needed to get taken out. And it was, you know, a good showing from the Sun Devils. I think that it's made me, I get a quality loss, unfortunately, as a top five theme of this episode. But I'm going back into the big 12, looking at Arizona State as much more of a picture in that race than I might have considered two weeks ago. - Quality 28 point loss. - No, I agree with you. I think for, well, first I'll start by saying Texas A&M looked very good. Marcel Reed has but touchdowns started really poorly. Got his act together in the second half and played much better, looked far more like the guy we saw last year early in the season than we saw it towards the end. Defensively, like they had, let's see. They finally got some, they only had one sack, but they had five tackles for loss. They were more disruptive today than they had been. And then, you know, just giving the two picks six is obviously. It concerned for me for Texas A&M as they weren't really able to run the ball. And especially like, it got better as the game went along. But I was genuinely concerned by what I saw from their offensive line kind of getting pushed around a bit by Arizona State. And for me, if I'm an SCC team, I remember what this team looked like last year. That wasn't something you typically saw on a regular basis. Like, their defensive line was nasty, their offensive line was good. Did not see the same thing for most of this game. But on the other side is going to Arizona State. Yeah, we touched on them when we were talking earlier about Oklahoma State. I think the big 12 is wide the hell up. And I think Arizona State did some things in this game before it really snowballed in the fourth quarter that like you said, makes me think this team is live. In the big 12, like once they get into conference play, I'm not sure who's in that league that these sun devils can't beat. If they play the way they did for the first three quarters in this game. On a day where we saw LSU played with its food against Louisiana Tech before finally being able to hit the gas. And maybe that's just a little bit of a sandwich spot between that massive Clemson opener. And of course, the trip to Ole Miss on a day where, or a weekend where Missouri was very impressive. I think in their win, being able to pull away from Kansas. Alabama has that showing. Oklahoma loses. How do you kind of see that the SEC, that range of the SEC stacking up right now? - Well, I mean-- - I'm not asking for like your res-- I'm not asking you to fill out a ballot, but just the way that you look at it. Like where do you draw the lines or are they all one big jumbled tier? - I've typically, like overall, not saying anybody's been-- like George has been perfect, okay? George is the one team that has been perfect. I did not see any of Florida today. They played Campbell. I'm assuming they looked perfect too, that I'm not gonna, you know, whatever I'm for it. - But generally, I think everybody in the SEC looks good except for Vandy, Arkansas, and Kentucky right now. - Like Auburn. - Auburn looked good today. Now they didn't hit my team total for me, which I'm not exactly thrilled about. But that game was delayed, I'm not sure why, but so maybe there were some weird vibes there, but they looked much better today than they did against Baylor, but you'd expect that they were playing Southern Miss. But they looked decent. So I don't think Auburn's a bad team. I don't know if Auburn, I'm picking them to finish in the top third of the league, but I think that there's somebody who's going to be in that middle tier who's gonna be able to get to a bowl and who might finish with a winning record in conference play. But it's just, yeah, overall, I've been impressed with everything I've seen from this conference. It's really hard to separate them. I think the top tier is clearly still Georgia, Texas after that win today. And then you're still kind of fighting in Scotland for that third, fourth, fifth spot. But yeah, there's a lot of teams I think that actually have a legitimate shot to be getting into that area this year. Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, all just kind of checking, checking boxes out here. Anything stand out as a top tier headline for you? Just from those three. Yeah. No, I mean, like Georgia's just Georgia, I don't know if Kirby took offense to like people talking about Georgia getting off to slow starts and non-conference. Or this whole like can't cover a 38 points. Yeah. And he said, all right, 70 points. Okay, I'll go. If you guys really just need to see me dog walk teams that I'm far better then, then I will go dog walk some teams. I'm better in there. I put seven points on the boards. Everybody happy. Maybe we'll get more Heisman votes. Hurray. Notre Dame, just that was what I thought was going to look like against rice. And to be clear, Notre Dame won 52 and nothing. And they really just did not do anything in the second half. It was 42 and nothing at half time. Like they scored on like their first six possessions, completely dominated that game. And then Indiana versus Howard, 55 and nothing. Same story as Indiana and Notre Dame pretty much. They dominated the game in the first half and they just took the second half off. Like they're doing what you're supposed to do in those games. Would you rather have Gunner stocked in or John Matier? Gunner. Although I would, I think if you put John Matier on Georgia, they'd be pretty similar because of the offensive line and play make. I mean, I don't even know if you can say playmakers. I don't know. But Austin Simmons was phenomenal. Like he was ripping some throws in that game. He looked legit as hell as into like, man, the only reason he wasn't able to get back on the field last year was because Trinidad was just ballin out. But no, like Mizzou's passing game looks terrific. And the run game looks like it always does. I think Mizzou is a legitimate kind of dark horse in the SEC right now going the rest of the way. It looked so good coming out of his hand. You're like, oh, yeah, he was a pitcher. It's a major league baseball talent. And he was just, he was dialed. And you know, Kaden Lee obviously makes the transfer with him from Ole Miss. Donovan, Alubadeh, who I told you about on Thursday in the lock spot. He had a couple huge catches as well. They are just out there cooking. And do you know who's having a ball with it right now? Garrett Riley. For all the conversation that we've had about the hire of Chip Lindsay, oh, it's still Eli's staff, this that or the other. Garrett Riley is over there too. And I saw him in Austin, you know, just just just having some chuckles on the sideline as they're just sort of pouring it on late. You know, Eli obviously given the green light for all the reasons that Eli said in the many different media appearances that he had after the game. But maybe it wasn't Garrett's fault as Clemson's sticks. I was about to ask you, as I'm going to say, do you think Garrett's chuckling right now? He's watching Clemson with 16 points late in the fourth quarter against Georgia Southern. And like celebrating the Georgia Southern just missed a feel goal that would have cut it to one score. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, these are these are the he was he was clearly the problem he brought in Chad Morris. And now the energy's back. They got the right kind of vibe in that locker and they just didn't have it with Garrett Riley the last few years, Chip. Yeah, that's true. As sometimes it happens over on the editorial side, but there was a point where Penn State was struggling and Virginia Tech was rolling. And it was like, huh. And what an interesting. Oh, what an interesting, uh, what an interesting series of events here. Now Virginia Tech, uh, Virginia Tech also was playing an in-state opponent from the group of six. There's was at home. As you mentioned, Penn State's, uh, away from happy Valley. I think for Virginia Tech fans are feeling pretty good right now about the James Franklin era. Yeah. Any of the Hokies against Old Dominion? I did not see a whole lot of it. No, I like, but I did, I'm looking at the box score now, like my boy Grunk, Grunk Dog, 327 yards, two touchdowns, 31 to 42. Just yeah, it's, I mean, you're not, I'm not going to put a whole lot of stock in wins over Old Dominion, but Old Dominion has been a pretty decent team last few years for the G6. Many DS has this talk about how he drags you into the sewer. And it really happens. It doesn't necessarily mean low scoring, right? But it's just, oh, are you okay? Have you cleaned yourself? I'm great. Um, yeah, no Nate Shepherd, man, is a dog. Like that kid, I can't remember what the stats were. I know last year he let, he was like one of the leaders in the nation and broken tackle rate. I'm pretty sure his broken tackle rate today was about 175%. Like, I think he broke tackles that people weren't even trying to make on him. He was impossible to bring down. And he ran for like a billion yards last week against Tulane follows that up with a hundred and forty seven yards and I touched down on 24 carries today, everything over six. He also caught five passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Like they were like, what, you know, like we were joking earlier, maybe Ohio States should give the ball more often to Jeremiah Smith. Duke did that game plan, but with Nate Shepherd. And they ran all over Illinois. It was a great win Walker. You get, look much better this week than he did last week against Tulsa. He had three touchdowns, 1521 for 206 yards. Duke, dessert, Duke was the better team in that game. Like Illinois was winning for a lot of the game, but Duke was a better team pretty much the entire time. Illinois's offense was just bailing them out because their defense was horrible. Like there is, there is very much a reason why I did not take Illinois against the spread in this game. And I locked up the over because I was terrified of the defense because they weren't able to stop the run last week against UAB. And I was very afraid of what Nate Shepherd was going to be able to do to them today and Nate Shepherd did it. And just to be blunt, the Illinois defense sucks. I am not a fan of this scheme. I am not a fan of anything I've seen from them. it is a legitimate problem that is going to be a problem for them all year long. I don't think this is a situation where things are going to get better. I just don't think they're good enough on that side of the ball. I don't think the scheme works in the big 10. I think it is a problem and it is going to be an after watching them today. I don't think that their schedule is to the point where I still think you're always going to a bowl. But I think like 7 and 5 is probably your best case, 8 and 4, if Kaden House here completely balls out. Which Kaden House here did play well and that was one of the differences too. You saw the difference in this game from what you're used to seeing from Luke Altmeier the last few years because once again it's the fourth quarter. It's a one-score game. Illinois's got the ball. They've got a chance to go down the field and they had multiple chances with the ball in the fourth quarter down a score to go with in this game. But whereas Luke Altmeier in those situations was terrific and he orchestrated the offense perfectly House is great as he was for the first three quarters. Started just completely honing in on Colin Dixon. It was just let me get this. There we go. 15 targets. I mean great. 11 catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns. I get it. But yo that's a that's a big target share. He was like he was there was a fourth down where they went for it and he the roll into the right and he throws to the house where he throws a Dixon in the corner of the end zone and over throws him. Meanwhile Braden Trimble was open like five yards in front of him and he could have just pretty much handed it off to him for the first down. But he had he'd already had in his mind. I got to go to Colin Dixon here. That's my guy. That's my guy. I've been going to all game and that was the difference between him and Luke Altmeier. Luke Altmeier would have made the right play because in those situations Altmeier made the right play every time. I was or didn't do that today. So if he did, I think Illinois ends up winning that game. Even though I don't think they would have deserved to. I think they could have stolen it, but they didn't. Coming up up. Oh, yes. Go ahead. Like Manny, what you need to do tonight. All right. When you get back to campus. You need to go to John Shire's office. All right. You got to break it. All right. But raise it because the kids worth it. I do think that the experience of Darian Mensa should not reflect on Duke's inability to keep Darian Mensa on a simply financial level. I think a lot of that was timing and maybe multi-layered in terms of not just being a strictly money issue. Like the the wild number that will be coming out. The number that here's the thing though Chip, the teams I'm not saying Duke doesn't have money. What I'm saying is the teams that are going to be coming after Nate Shepherd are operating at a very different level with the money than what Duke is operating at. I thought you're going to say I'm talking about I'm talking about playoff teams. I'm talking about top of the SEC. I'm talking about Miami. I'm talking about the top of the big 10. I'm talking about Texas Tech. These are the teams that Nate Shepherd is going to be in the market for next to this off season. I thought you were going to say that many Diaz should go back to his office and fill out his application to be the next Ted coach at Florida State University. It's the question then becomes in terms of going down the pole, where does Ohio State land? Now would you like to guess my guess or do you want me to go ahead and explain to you the way that I thought this out? I want you to explain to me the way that you thought this out. All right. So the distance between Texas at four and LSU at eight was smaller than the distance between LSU at eight and Ole Miss at nine. So the golf invoting point suggests that there is a firm tier there. I don't think Ohio State falls out of the top 10. I think Ohio State checks in at number seven, essentially slotting into that spot above Ole Miss, where these AP voters this season so far have clearly drawn a tier where you say Ohio State, you take a loss, then you move to the bottom, but you're not going to get dropped a whole tier based on a road loss against a team that will be moving into the number one spot. So I've got them at seven ahead of LSU. Behind LSU ahead of Ole Miss. Who's at eight? Yes, right now. Well, LSU is eight last week. Well, Oregon's drop. Oh, I bad. I'm an idiot. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That makes plenty of sense. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. No, that's probably right. I don't know. I feel like last week they were a little more reactive than we typically see. So I wouldn't be shocked if they fall further than seven, but I think you're probably right. A one point loss on the road, even if you did choke it away at the very end. There's probably not. They're probably not going to punish you too much. The reactive nature of last week's voting was taken into consideration as I projected Oklahoma out. I mean, it's just what's there. But do you know what else is equally controversial and reactive? Michigan back in. I don't think that's controversial at all. Okay. I said last week, if they take them out, then they go be local home, but they should be back in. I think Michigan should be ranked. They are 2 and 0. The win over team those number 11. Who might not be number 11 anymore, but still. I don't know. I don't know if they should be ranked in the top 10. No, no, no. I've got them at 17, which the idea is that where they should be. Yeah. It's like they get a bit closer to where they weren't before. You know, they got knocked out because of the way things went against Western Michigan. They make a return to the rankings. I do think Oregon remains in the top 25. I do too, but they should not be in the top 15. I've got them at 21. That's that work. And in my thought was, I think behind Boise. That could be. No, they're not. I've got Boise in at 25 right now. The my thought on Oregon is that if a voter is tasked with putting together the 25 best teams in college football, you really can't make that list without including the Oregon ducks. Even if the performance that they've shown on the field is not at all aligned with the talent that we know is on that roster. The fact that the talent that is on that roster, the literal players playing together have won so many games at a high level against good teams. And yet the quality of the performance has not matched that. I think this is about the last Mulligan that Oregon gets, but I do think that they get one more Mulligan just because. And I do there might be some voters who say, look, here's all you have. You've got closer than expected win against a currently unranked, but I'm projecting to be ranked team in Boise State. And then you've got a road loss against another unranked team. You strip away the name. You don't look at the talent. You don't look at the depth charts. Oregon does not have a top 25 resume. This feels like the last last straw to be able to hold on to that one. So I've got Oregon dropping outside of the top 10. And as we mentioned outside of the top eight for the first time since October 23. I've got them checking in at 21 in the new updated rankings. So we got Oklahoma out. We got, oh, this is a little bit of a controversial one and a good chance to talk about about this scene 'cause we haven't yet. I'm gonna say, Washington's out. Really? And they did win. It wasn't impressive at all. Like they have not looked good at all through two weeks. That's kind of what I thought. And like then Washington state doesn't back it up as Washington state ends up getting kind of run and like handled mostly easily by Kansas state. You might have gotten more eyes on that game than I had, but I was able to move it to the side pretty easily once Kansas state got in control. And so I just think that overall the Washington resume is just. Oregon has this massive gulf of space to fall when they're not matching their preseason expectations. Washington's sitting there at 19. I just don't know with a closer than expected win against Washington state and a closer than expected win get then closer than expected win the following week coming. I just against Utah state. I just don't think that it's going to be a resume as you're looking for reasons to put a boys he stayed in after the big win against Memphis as you're looking for reasons to maybe get a Florida in there. I don't have Florida in my top 25, but if someone wanted to they were 27th in voting points last week. I think that those would be teams that you could see taking yourself out of. Yeah, to be clear on Washington. They have played what might be the two worst teams in the pack 12. And like they'd be Washington state 24 at a time, but that game is far closer than that score suggests. And maybe Utah state today 16 to 14. And for those who aren't paying close attention to Broncos big bad boys, Utah state lost to Idaho state last week. And they were hanging around with Washington for four quarters. So yeah, if anybody wants to take Washington off their ballot, you're not going to hear any complaints from me. I will say I mean they played Campbell. So maybe not, but I won't be shocked at all that Florida sneaks in. People people want to rank Florida chip. People people are kind of rooting for that. People are people like there were a lot of people who were voting who were talking about how Florida's a dark horse team this year and they could surprise people. And they're off to a two and O start and they've lived really good in those games, even though they haven't actually played anybody, but you like you said they were getting votes already. So there are a lot of people out there that are getting a little itch check a finger before it on about it. I've got your I've got the aforementioned Missouri Tigers bumping up a few spots, maybe jumping ahead of Iowa. I think that's fair. Given the way that both teams play. I think they're better than Iowa. Yeah. The way that both teams played here in week two. But other than that, we've got a lot of moving the pieces around on the board. We think Badello as always because that was the re ranking the top 25 sponsored by Modello. While the rankings may change from week to week, Modello will always be at the top of our list is the perfect companion for a college football Saturday. Remember college football season is Modello season. All right. Um, Tennessee. We think about it. Beat them up. It was not a good phase on Brandon game. But DeShawn Bishop had a huge one 20 carries 190 some odd yards and a couple scores. And, um, you know, like on the very first drive, I think if it wasn't the first drive, it was still early in the first quarter. Brandon let him write down the field and I was going, oh, here we go. But, you know, it wasn't totally in sync once we got off script. It wasn't, but you know what he didn't do. He didn't turn the ball over. Didn't make a backbreaking mistake at all. Alberto turned it over twice. And, you know, I can, I can live with a freshman on the road playing against a P-14, not having the cleanest game. He was only 10 to 21, not turning the ball over, not making that killer mistake. That's what usually dooms you when you have a young quarterback. Alberto Mendoza, he's not the freshman or the, as young as phase on it is, but he's kind of his inexperienced in that he's most of his experience before this game and the four quarters games in India and it was up by a thousand in. He, we saw last week against Colorado. Didn't look great. Didn't look great again today. And, I think Georgia Tech's got a legit situation on its hand. The offensive line does not look good. Quarterback doesn't look good. The defense doesn't look good. Like they didn't give up a lot of points last week against Colorado, but they had far more to do with Colorado in my estimation than it did Georgia Tech. This is a team that, to me, is looking like it's going to be like holding hands with BC. Maybe get the bottom. No, no, no, no, no. I know that BC might have had a night on Friday. Again, I'm not saying they're going to be as bad, but I'm saying like they're going to be like, they're going to turn around and BC is going to be right there standing behind him in line. Well, I mean, the thing that's going to really break their heart is when Wake Forest cuts in front of them. Winners and triple overtime at Purdue. That's a good win for Jake Dickert squad. It was. Wild game, but certainly, I mean, I've listened all credit to Wake for winning at great win for Jake to go on the road and get that, but it was fourth and 15. They couldn't get off and Purdue couldn't get off the field. I know. See, I'll tell you in the Wake world, this is being spun as Geo Lopez hero, you know, like I didn't even get to the game winning two point conversion. You know, this, this is really being sold right there when Geo Lopez was talking about how he didn't like the music they were playing in the Carolina locker room. Everybody was way too serious and Wake feels more like a family boy, they're rolling the quad. I don't know if they're rolling the quad, but you know, they're loving they're loving themselves Geo Lopez the hero on this on this day when the the arts and sciences collided in the arts one. It was a fun college football finish. And I will say like, if you are a Purdue fan, it's hard to be happy, but you are making that transition from losing big to losing close. So the improvement is there. It's just, improvement doesn't mean you are not going to have your heart ripped out right in front of you anymore. That's still going to happen, David. South Florida near walkoff at army should catch the I only caught the end of that one. I know. So the highlight of the end, I'd not see any of the game. Michael van Buren on a fourth down, just stepping up with the game on the line and delivering an absolute strike. The bulls and year one of Brian Hartline are waking up out of the slumber. It hadn't always been pretty, but they're 2 and 0 on the season and they got a big road win in conference play. United States Military Academy. Did Navy end up coming back to win? Oh, yeah. I was about to bring that up. Like FAU was holding off for dear life in the okay. Yeah, because they were up 38 to 14 going into the fourth quarter and then Navy came storming back to make a game of it. And did army come storming back to? Yeah, early. There's only two games going on right now that I could see. I know with that, they're only showing the top 25. My bad, my bad. North Dakota State's about to finish off Air Force. The bad is down 17 to nothing about Tennessee. Yeah. All right. See, the battle look great last week. Yes. What was good? Well, also with Western Kentucky's follow up throttling at the hands of Georgia, I think we just might have a, might have a Western Kentucky got hoovered up. You know, this could be an example of one of those proud programs that just hits that off cycle where you lost the wrong players and the players you took weren't right because to have a Western Kentucky program under Tyson Hilton that for most of his tenure has been competing for conference USA titles, that showing out there at Nevada. Then what we saw from Nevada paired with a 70 burger at the hands of Georgia, just might be an off year for the Toppers, which is a real shame for all of our, you know, what's the mascot thing? Big red for all of our big red fans out there. We have, we've discussed how we feel that the big 12 is now wide open, but we have not actually discussed why we feel that way. Oh, because of Texas Tech. Because Texas Tech, like they won 35, 24 on the road against Oregon State, but like I thought going into the year, my theory on Texas Tech was going to be like, the defense is not going to be as good as it was last year. They lost, you know, three NFL defensive linemen, like an early day draft pick defensive linemen. There's simply no way they were going to be able to repeat it, but they're still probably going to be pretty good. I don't know that Texas Tech's defense is going to be any good anymore. Like they gave up 472 yards to Oregon State, Beaver's average 6.6 yards per play. I'm the offensive line, some of it was Will Hammond, but Beavers had four sacks, six tackles for loss. I don't know, man. This Texas Tech team does not strike me as being in the same tier as last year's was. Like, I still look at it and say it's probably gonna be in there at the big 12 of the year. It's probably still the team to beat, but whereas I looked at them as like an 80% chance in winning this league to start the year, I'm closer to more 50 now. I just don't think they're that good. And I think that the swordsman situation is making itself clear as to why they were fighting so hard for that. - What about the Tommy Castellanos of it all? 'Cause obviously he makes some appearances in here, doesn't, it's still Will Hammond's team, but there's like, - It is. - Hasellanos packaged that they're working on? - But if I could quote Kyle Whittingham, nothing is infinite, I wouldn't be shocked if Will Hammond kind of struggles going forward, would you be shocked if they pushed the Tommy C button? - No. - I mean, I don't think they're bringing them in. If they're at least considering it as a possibility, no matter what they say. - And they've got a short week in their plane, Houston on Friday night for their big 12 opener. - It'll be very, very interesting to see how those things play out. And to your point about the defense, also a credit to Braden Atkinson, who's now two weeks in a row, this guy was playing ball at Mercer last season, and he is just, you don't care, man, he's out there slinging it. And it did a good job of picking apart Texas text defense one week after some success in week one as well. - You know, you know who else was slinging it out there? - Oh. - But it's not here to criticize. Bare Bachmire, 217 yards, three touchdowns, 8.3 per attempt. - Wasn't. - I saw a moment performance. - Well, I saw 41 of those, hold on, let me pull this up. I saw 41 of those yards, and that was a 500 ball. You get tossed it in the air and call. - I'm telling you, sometimes you gotta trust your guy. - It's gotta yell "Yolo" and let it go. - We had a, you know, I know Robert Griffin III's a big fan of the Cover 3 podcast. We had RG-3 on the call. And of course, he threw it to legend. And you can just let your mind wander about how excited RG-3 was to have a play delivered to a player named legend. To the legends that he is, you know, all the way through. But if BYU plays games on there to. Arizona played that game well, you know? They played a pretty good game. But BYU was better and came up with good plays late. Fafita made some mistakes. They kind of had to force the issue. And then as they were trying to force the issue, game got away from them. It was one that Arizona was absolutely showing up for and bringing the fight early. But huge credit to BYU for again, you just, they do not beat themselves. They don't make mistakes. They don't have a whole bunch of costly turnovers. Yeah, good job for the Cougs. You who else doesn't beat themselves. Who? Boise State. Boise State Memphis. Appalachit in the second half. Like that was a very close game in the first half. It was 2017, Memphis at halftime. And then Memphis did not score again. Boise State just completely took control of the game. Riley finished 206 yards rushing. Gaines had 93, like they were running all over Memphis. And we talked about that defensive line. And they figured out, you know how we're going to stop this Memphis pass rush? Are running the ball down its damn throat? And that's exactly what they did. And now Boise, like you're looking at what you've seen from the G6 so far. Who are your favorite? Like the fact that they nearly beat Borigan last week. And they come in and they do this to Memphis. Like, I mean, obviously they have to win their conference first. And there's a long way to go before them. But if you're handicapped any right now, is there a G16 you're putting in the playoff? I had a Boise State. No. No. That defensive line was feasting on Marcus Stokes. Definitely not something that I noticed at all as somebody who had Memphis team total over 22 and a half and had 20 points at halftime and needed just three points in the second half. I forgot about that. A single field goal would have brought us home. That's it. So we had a pick six called back because his pinky toe was on the sideline. And then 20 points in the first half, zero in the second. And like credit to Charles Huff. He was playing to win that game. But he started going forward on like fourth and eight, fourth and 10 in the third quarter. He was just tough scene. But I thought that I mean, Maddox, Madsen got hit and even have to finish the game. They brought in cut for it. Remember the guy who started for him last year for a couple games? Yeah, they just ran the football right down their throat. It was a good, good performance for Boise State. And Boise State, look, but this is the thing. If we're going to sit here and credit Oregon State, we have to recognize there are going to be some difficult challenges once they get in there. RT, our Boise for San Diego State had a little, we're a feisty against UCLA, made it. 100 there for a while. I mean, there for us, no, it's just completely healing Sacramento State right now. They look much better than it against USC. That's for sure. Yeah. Hey, you know who learned how to play on the road? Who? Meet me. Oh, you TSA got away from the, from the cavernous. I figured out how to win outside the Alamo Dome. I know. And it didn't look like they were going to because Texas State was up 17 to 7 1/2 time. And I saw that score and I was like, oh, oh, man. The road runners are in trouble, but nope, no. Came back in the second half out scored of 23 to 9. It went 30 to 26. It's a big winner for UTSA. We kind of talked about them in the off season as a team in the American to keep an eye on. Memphis, Memphis is still good. This was not a conference loss for them. But maybe it looked shaky today. They lost Army lost. You look at a lot of the contenders in the American. I think there's some value on the road runner chip. If they've learned how to win road games. Uh-oh. Mm-hmm. I'm not going to bail on the Memphis Tigers just yet. They might have run into. I don't think they're going to face a lot of teams like Boise. Yeah, I'm not bailing out of them. I'm just saying. G-C-S-I is looking good. Oh, and speaking of G-16s, it looked good. Do you remember who was able to run the ball against Indiana? Oh, last week. That would be North Texas, which put you and LV in a body bag today. Holy crap. Mm-hmm. 44-6. Shhh. Shhh. Dude, I read Jackson Arnold had like 15 friends and family there, because he's from North Texas. Well, at least it was a short drive home. Shhh. I think there were five fumbles in that game. They lost three of them. Alex Orgie came in through five passes, completed one to his team, and one to North Texas. Just, wow, just an absolute weapon. At one point, oh, go ahead. Oh, that's good. I said like that. You saw him against Indiana last week, and he was like, wow, this is kind of concerning for Indiana. Like, the mean green coming in, Neil Brown just taken over, the brand new team, all the other teams at Oklahoma State, like, North Texas beat Oregon and you and LV today. If you think about it, if you think about it, that's right. If you think about it, western Michigan, Boise State, super fun. As we mentioned, what? I was going to say it was a don't get off the bus Saturday for whoever the hell was playing western Michigan. Hold you, don't get off the bus, you do not want to see this team this week. They are mad. What do you do? You just stayed on the bus. Monmouth. All right. What else? Anything? That's about it for me. I mean, Jacksonville State, Ohio was a banger. I'm told I did not get eyes on it, but it went four over times. I heard a lot of great things about it. So I'll probably go check out like a condensed game version of that, but I didn't see any of it. Joel's corner here. Real disappointing performance. Real disappointing start, I think, for ECU. AppState came and kind of shell-shocked him a little early. That's an AppState team that I do not think many people were high on. That's now two and a half, but something to monitor as they enter a sunbelt play. Speaking of sunbelt play, James Madison scored 87 dagum points. I mentioned this on Twitter earlier. They moved this game because of Inclimate Weather. You know, like they they went out of their way to buy guys. We went out to health and safety of our players and fans. We're going to move this game to noon so we can get it over with before the storms come and then had a nine hour game. You didn't need all those touchdowns to take care of Wagner. Gracious. 87 points. Program record. I mean, these, this, uh, this was a great observation. This is probably something for a pun for the review. But Andrew Ivens in our college football workroom, and of course you can listen to Andrew Ivens on some of the cover through recruiting shows that he and Bud have started to do with more regularity. And I encourage you to check those out. I love his observations on all things beyond recruiting college football in general. But he was pointing out that because of the house settlement and the increase to 105 that most programs and they're no longer having walk-ons or no longer having walk-on caliber players. So when we put on the twos in the threes in 2026, the twos in the threes are better than they've ever been before. So we're still sending out the guys that used to be legitimately the university president's nephew. And now all of a sudden, it's a real college football player. Yeah. And so it's just leading to these bananas results. Just the increase to 105 scholarship, just a small detail of a settlement that mostly gets discussed within the context of revenue sharing and paying players. But like that piece of it, and remember Matt rule was out here about eliminating the walk-on program is going to ruin college football. You know what it ruined it ruined Wagnar's day, you know, it ruined the day of all these teams that signed up for these buy it ruined Florida A and M's day, like all these teams that sign up for these buy games and get paid 750 to $1.2 750 K to $1.2 million to get beat by a billion sure feels like ever since the house settlement went in. Some of those games get a lot more lopsided, and I really think it has to do with the fact that our twos and our threes and our backups and our backups backups are real football players now. You know, but I've seen like, there's some talk about how, you know, these games are going obsolete because of that. But you can't get rid of them. You know why? Because if I could go local's corner, if you get rid of FCS buy games and Brock's back in the Illinois State Redbirds aren't walking into Decal, and in Northern Illinois, climbing in the mountains of Decal, Illinois and handed Northern Illinois a loss. That's right. The Illinois State Team that got to the FCS title game last year came up short. They planted on going back there again this year, 28/24, shout out the Redbirds, teaching them boys and lessons for leaving their backyard to join the Mountain West. Wouldn't have happened if you were in the Mac Northern. Let's go. Dave Clauston was on the call for North Carolina East Tennessee State is enjoyable because I like listening to Dave Clauston. Always enjoyed interviewing him and having conversations with him and he was wake for a said coach. And since he's joined the media, also he recruited Will Healy as his quarterback when he was at Richmond. And he hated Carolina as a coach. So he wasn't. He wasn't very. He wasn't at all by his. He wasn't coming a good time. I'm just here to do a job. But no, he also, his big thing that he was leaning in with his commentary that I did enjoy take note of and think he was providing color that no one else could was as somebody who competed against Bobby Patrino. He was just calling stuff out left and right. He was like, Oh, yeah, there's the pin and pull classic Patrino been doing it for decades. Oh, yeah, here's this that of the, like he was, he was calling it all out. It was a lot of fun. North Carolina got up 35 to zero long weather delay, just sort of sits on it the rest of the way. 35 to 3. Again, they will be heading to play the Clemson Tigers. It looks like survived. Right? Yeah. Apparently. Who were able to barely survive against Georgia's Southern. Good job. You guys are back. You're going to be competing at the top of the league, competing for titles again here pretty soon. One thing left on my no pet here, it's kind of scared of these people. I don't want to counter it up coming after us. Oh, yeah, they flipped that game. Let's go. It was, it was not a pretty game. No, no, no, not, not a lot to be proud of, but you know what? Follow up last week's loss. If I lie all the way across the country, which we have seen, like the numbers show you how it goes for most of the time for these teams, the teams that have to make the travel like this. I don't care what it looks like. As long as that flight home is a win, good. So Toshleopoy has his first minute call. It was not pretty.
