Have you ever cared about a headline less given the nature of today than this is like the scene in Jurassic Park. It's like we got Lombardi. We got Lombardi over here is seeing nobody cares. Our jam packed, we're high and type blistering downtown Nashville, Tennessee on this Thursday September 3rd, the year of our Lord, 2026, starting a little bit earlier than we normally would on a Thursday. But that's because there are real life football games happening. And you know, a court case or two currently ongoing, who in the world knows what's happening in that courtroom down in Louisiana. I will talk about it kind of from a more 50,000 foot perspective only because I'm not going to go as far as to say there aren't some moles in the courtroom. I just can't out them right now. We got some upset alerts as we do every Thursday during the season, SMU and Florida State square off Monday night. I saved that game preview for this show because we wanted to give it a few more days to cook. It is a Labor Day night game after all. Ramanoodle Express. I got a viewers guide on the show tonight. We got a lot of fun stuff. We're jam packed and we're going to get out of here in time for everyone to watch the games tonight. Big, big season on door, on deck, rather, will be down in Baton Rouge tomorrow, not outside a courtroom, but rather outside of Tiger Stadium from two to three Eastern, one to two central tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Check us out on ESPN. Here we go. I honestly can't believe this day is real. But then again, I can't believe the last few weeks have been real. But in college football, I don't know how many times we find ourselves saying this, the reality often far supersedes what would be believable in the world of fiction. And the latest version of that is today, just today, mind you, 48 hours in counting from kickoff, Clemson at LSU, the whole world's going to be down there. Michael Bonnet is credentialed like 900 folks, 48 hours before that's happening. The day begins with what we expected, which was the SEC Greg Sankie down there taking the stand. And we're trying to figure out whether these players, these, these former pro players, if you even want to call them that, we can't even agree on that. But whether they're going to be able to be added to LSU's roster and whether they're going to be able to play in all this nonsense that's been going on. And if that's not unbelievable enough around lunchtime today, I'm trying to eat my wrap, my grilled chicken wrap. And what do I see on my screen, Jesse? We got breaking news from on three, Pete and echoes young Pete spoke to him today. He's in good spirits, tired of covering the story, but in good spirits, quote, well, like the quotes in the second. Here's the news. First, the SEC has filed a lawsuit against LSU. Now I know this all runs together. So you need to pay attention to what I just said. I said the SEC has filed a lawsuit against LSU and head football coach Lane Kiffin. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, as the commissioner of the SEC was quite literally on the stand as a part of one lawsuit. The league, he is the commissioner of filed a lawsuit against one of its flagship member institutions. Do I have this correctly? Yes, I do. And this tweet goes on to say quote, defendants waged a deliberate and coordinated campaign to recruit pro athletes to play football for LSU during the 2026, 2027 season. What are we doing? What's happening? Well, I don't think anyone really knows. I have, as this has gone on, started to change my viewpoint. I haven't changed my opinion, per se, but I've kind of just changed my viewpoint on it all. I know some people have taken the stance that I'm tired of talking about this. I'm not going to talk about this anymore. Cool. More power to you. Candidly, I kind of feel the same way. But no, what I mean when I say I've changed my opinion a little bit is I've kind of changed the lenses I'm looking at it through because I've got, look, nobody's got a softer spot for LSU in their heart than I do Louisiana folks know my history with them. So I got my LSU folks just screaming from the rooftops, all sorts of different things. Some of you think, well, there are different layers of being a pro athlete. And that's gets getting into the minutiae over here, okay? I'm not even talking about that. There is another group of you and you're not wrong when you say this is selective outrage, we're being singled out. And you are. It's pretty obvious. Even people who are on the other side of the argument from LSU right now or on the other side of the argument from the athletes right now. If you look at the facts of the situation, you got to admit at least that. So that is a solid point. And then there's another camp who says, hey, we're the players over here. And guess what? If the NCAA would have timed this ruling up to where it were either earlier or later we would have had the information that was critical to make our decision. So it's not fair that they put us in a corner and now we let the bad guys, do you know what? That's valid too. And then there's a group over here. I mean, this is kind of the SEC's viewpoint on it and the SEC saying, we're not the NCAA, dude, we're not the ones who passed the rule when they passed it. But everything about the principle of what we're trying to make sure is maintained here supersedes this. So in other words, we feel you, we'd probably be pissed off too if we were you, the athletes who declared for the draft because you thought you were out of eligibility and now you found out later too late that you had eligibility. We get that. But then there's the matter of we've got to uphold the standard of not letting pro athletes come back to play college and that upholding of that standard supersedes, how sorry we feel for you. My point is I wrote down right here. It really has good points. There's not even like a right or wrong here. There are different viewpoints. The only wrong, stop me if you've heard this headline before, is the nature in which this was handled and the timeline in which it was applied by the NCAA. That's kind of if you get down the very, very bottom of the drain. After all, the sewage spirals, downward, downward, downward, boom. The bottom of the drain is more terrible decision making at the hands of the NCAA and because they don't really become the face of this sort of thing, you've got tribes forming and you've got folks who were mad at LSU and they hate Lane Kiffin and you got people saying, I don't think Lane should be doing this. I don't think LSU should be pursuing this and then you got LSU folks saying, I'm okay, but you say that about us, but what about them, them, them and them and nobody's wrong except the NCAA. Because if anyone had a functioning head on their shoulders and it was college football leadership, instead of just college football people in positions where leaders are supposed to reside, you would have had a well laid out plan and you would have had a lot of intention behind the scenes. the timing. These don't exist there. So my mind from today moving forward, we still don't know, even as I'm talking to you live, it's 507 central time on Thursday. I still don't kind of know what the conclusion is. Regardless of the conclusion, okay, here's the bottom line. LSU is either going to be with or without a couple of players that are good players, but they're going to be with or without them. My mind goes way further down the road than that. Like, I can't help but let my mind wander to what the future holds in the aftermath of this regardless. And this would be kind of my concern if I were at LSU or if I were in LSU fan, my concern would be, all right, whether we get these dudes or whether we don't, are we fighting a battle at the expense of losing the war? And here's the war. And I don't even have a specific year. So this is a generality. But I just know in the history of college athletics, how many times member institutions of conferences have needed their conference to have their back behind the scenes? Sometimes it's something that's public. Far more often, it is a matter that you may never know because it never sees the light of day, but it's because of the league office and the conference put its weight behind its member institution. It's one of the very reasons you're in a conference. And I don't know how that dynamic is damaged. It's what I'm saying. I quite literally I'm telling you, I don't know. And that's where my mind goes. More so than will they or won't they have Desquand Wright to play this year? And number two, the divergent path of opinion, if I'm an LSU fan, that my mind probably takes based on the outcome of this season. I know since everyone's zero and zero right now, and we're favored by 10 or 10 and a half against Clemson Saturday night and our hopes and our beliefs and our predictions are sky high. No one's minds gone here yet. What if LSU goes eight and four this year? What if it's because they stumble out of the gate? And they're shaky early. You're telling me that you don't look back on this and say, wow, had we invested a little more, you know, you know, a little more attention into what matter to get started, hot out of the gate instead of that mess, maybe we wouldn't be in this position. Now there's a flip side to that coin. And the flip side of that coin is what if LSU comes out and plays with their hair on fire in this, this us against the world, you know, what if they bottle up what made Clemson great better than Clemson even does and then they come out the gate really hot and then they catch fire in their playoff team. Well, at that point, you know, we've got two very, very different divergent paths of what a mentality could be amongst the fan base down the road a little ways. Either way, my mind's in the future on it. But there are some people out there, maybe just maybe foolhearted enough to tell themselves, man, at least this is just a one time thing. Well, I've got terrible news for you in the land of lawlessness, everything's in play. So yeah, while it may be true that this is the last time we'll go around this particular Mary go around the general state of ineptitude or lawlessness, lack of any governance, lack of any enforceability on rules, lends us to seeing a new version of this every six months. Like think back, if you're a college football fan and I don't know, you're older than 20, you've got a little adulthood about yourself. That's the last three year period where we didn't have some kind of mess related to either NCAA or rules enforcement or lack of ability to enforce rules and then think about the last five years in particular and how it feels like an entire lifetime worth of mess. So no, we're close to the end of that until there's finality one way or another and you know, hey, speaking of full-heartedness, speaking of that, I do have to fess up that I once upon a time said at this microphone, I don't know like a year ago, Jesse or something like that. And I said, I know college football is a mess right now, but you know what, I'm kind of of the opinion that it needs to be a mess because we need to get to the bottom as quickly as possible. We need to bottom out as quickly as possible. In other words, what's going to happen eventually can only happen immediately if there are messes too big to ignore. I don't know what's too big to ignore in college football, though, because if you've got the sorts of be stuff and the way it went down and that doesn't enact serious change, or if we've got member institutions supporting lawsuits against their conferences and then their conferences countersuing the member institutions, again, this is something that happened today. If that's not too big of a mess, I don't know what too big of a mess is. So who knows, I'm sitting here just as clueless as everyone else. I do know one thing, though. We got a big time college football game in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jesse, the game's still on. Yeah, so the game's still going to happen. And they don't tread on Saturday tour. We'll be there. We are one of, it seems seemingly millions of people who will be down there Saturday night. Man, being on the sideline at an LSU game on a Saturday night, awesome, just unbelievable. Never forget the first time I experienced that because I was a little jaded. And I was kind of, that was kind of in my era of skepticism where so many things are hyped in sports. And then you experience them. And it's okay, but it doesn't meet the hype. And then I'm standing on the sideline at Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night. And it just sounds like multiple jet engines just attached to both ears, can't believe that that players function in that can't believe people can think critically in that environment. And now Chris Vazina gets to try his hand at it. Luckily, we just get to stand there and watch. So we're going to be down there. I want to remind you guys tomorrow, tomorrow afternoon, Friday afternoon, two Eastern, one Central. It's our maiden voyage myself. Will Compton, Taylor, the one ESPM. I don't know if it's smart or not, but they've given us our own show Friday afternoons and we'll be live down there in Louisiana in Baton Rouge somewhere close to Tiger Stadium. I don't know. There's a lot of debate about whether we're going to have covering or not. And if we don't, the foreheads in jeopardy, Jesse, is this the first time I rock a hat publicly? I don't know. You just go back out to practice the next day and wait for him to mess up. We've got a lot of upset potential. It's week one of a college football season. Nobody knows anything about anyone at any time. That's the general rule of thumb with which we enter the season. And that's coming from a guy who made two different playoff predictions, not five as some corners of the internet would allege, but two. So here's what I like to do. I like to scan the horizon. I like to look at the upset potential games and I'll just give you kind of my concern meter for the favorite. Let's start with the game we just talked about. We already addressed this one. So I'll be quick here. The don't tread on Saturday tour, of course, we'll head down to Baton Rouge. We'll see Clemson against LSU 10 and a half point favorite. That's where LSU is right now. I'm going to put the upset alert concern meter for LSU at a seven. I don't fully believe people when they say, Oh, the distractions are blocked out. I don't, I don't fully believe that. I just don't. So there's that there's, there's also, if we stack the pancakes up, the second pancake is, this is week one, anything can happen. The third stack is Clemson's got a ton of pressure on them too, man. They're coming off a year where they couldn't run the ball at all. They've heard that their time and the sun is over and I want to remind you, when we went over there in the spring, there's a lot of talk about how K club next gone, you know, Garrett Riley's gone, but while there may be some question about the overall skill level at quarterback, and that just remains to be seen. I'll grant either our questions. These dudes will go to war for this quarterback and frankly, I'm not sure that's what you would say about the quarterback they've had there the last few years. No disrespect. So got some young guys starting up front, supremely talented young guys for LSU, but you know, I think there's a world where LSU, that past game, shaky early, who knows, maybe turnovers are an issue early and and Clemson's able to get the ball in their wide receivers hands pretty quick and extend the run game that way. Or maybe they're just able to manufacture some rushing yards, the good old fashioned way, but just extending drives kind of getting the game more in their rhythm, more in their style. Yes, of course I could see that. So I've got LSU win in the game. I like the under on the game, but I'm going to put a seven on the upset alert concern meter. Next up, a game we have not been able to touch on this week. Jesse is facing Marshall, excuse me, Penn State is facing Marshall at home as a 24-and-a-half point favorite. Now, I think they'll be okay. Okay. So I am not overly concerned. As evidence, I'm only going to put a three on the upset alert concern meter. The paternal stuff's happening up there, mostly stupid, stupid in that it's gaining the amount of attention that it's gaining, name whatever building you want after him. I couldn't care less. It's not a headline to me. I don't think it's a distraction for the team. I'm rolling the dice there. Here's what else I think. I think if I'm a Penn State fan, I am mildly terrified because I remember the way we looked inferior against inferior competition to start last year. Now we won the games, but we kind of sensed that something feels off. We don't want to repeat of that. We don't. And so, Marshall's quarterback. I assume you all have a scouting report on Carlos Del Rio Wilson, but if you don't, that's the guy who's been around a while, he's really good at improvisation. He's really good at making things happen off script. He's good situationally. He's the kind of guy that's really frustrating to play because he doesn't know that he's supposed to lay down and he doesn't know that we're supposed to be pulling away from them by this point. So again, I kind of like Penn State to run it up a little bit. So I'm only going to put a three on it, but it does bear watching Oregon states at Houston. Most people when they talk about Houston right now, they say a couple of things. They say, eight Connor Wigman's back, which is true. And you know, Houston plays at Texas Tech, Friday night, week three. Also true. Well, what about week one? Oh, I don't know who they play week one. Well, they play Oregon State. They're a 20 and a half point favorite. To Marcus Shepard, friend of the program, is the new head coach at Oregon State. And Braden Adkinson is the quarterback up there. Now, here's what's interesting. Braden Adkinson threw for 3600 yards and 34 touchdowns at Mercer as a true freshman. Mercer, I believe it's in Macon. It's really close to Columbus. So your boy grew up pretty much in Mercer's backyard. So if anyone knows Mercer football, it's probably not me. But I do know about Bo Atkinson a little bit. He did win the Jerry Rice Award last year. So how many former Jerry Rice Award winners has Houston faced in a season opener, Jesse? How about that trivia? They portled in Bo Atkinson and he beat out Malik Murphy for this starting quarterback job. So I'm kind of interested to see how this starts because look, I love Houston this year. I'm not a Houston doubter veteran quarterback, veteran offensive line, Oregon State's leading receiver. I think transfer to Houston. So I feel okay about this. I can see it being a little bigger chore. Maybe then they expect I'm going to put a five on it. This is a game again. I don't expect it to go sideways in the end, but it bears close watching. Now a game that I do think could go sideways, a game that even on the paper feels wobbly already Toledo at Michigan State, Michigan State's an eight and a half point favorite, ten and a half point favorite in my bad. I said eight and a half calls I have an eight and a half on the upset alert concern scale here. Michigan State at home laying only ten and a half. Why? Well, Toledo's a pretty good football team. They got the best odds to win the Mac. Michigan State is a portal built team, which can be okay, but the problem is they were only the 61st ranked portal class. So a lot of talent went out. Now I'm not sure they won to one backfield in terms of quality. John Allen Richter is the quarterback at Toledo. He's been there a while. And this is one of those situations where a guy stuck around and he worked his tail off and he waited his turn. He is a captain of that team. So don't be surprised if you turn on the game there. And you see this very inspired performance. And you see a quarterback getting a ton of spotlight and they got all these graphics built for him and they hadn't been able to use him for four years. And finally, it's time to unload the John Allen Richter clip. Also Mike Jacobs speaking of Mercer, just kind of a name to know. And 94 and 23 at the lower levels is not bad. I think he was a Lenore Ryan, I believe, so don't have the Wikipedia page memorized. But this is an eight and a half. Jesse just thinks Toledo is going to win, right? And Jesse's got the upset peg. So either, either we're right or Jesse's wrong. And lastly, Miami of Ohio is at pit. And I'm putting a five on this one. I am mildly concerned about the upset here. I like pit at quarterback. I got the questions around Heichel, tough pronunciation for me, good player though. But I've got questions around him a little bit. So the range of outcomes feels to me like way up, way down Miami of Ohio number three in the Mac odds and Miami of Ohio, they may just may have an offensive line that can slow that game down. It could be one of those deals where you're watching the game and you say, man, I think pit would pull away here eventually, they could just get the ball, could be one of those kinds of games. Pits had some dealings with G6 teams in bowl games recently. I'm not sure how much stock I put in that, but I'm going to put a five on that one. So it's kind of a weird slate. I think this segment's a little more fiery later in the year, like week two and beyond. But you know as well as I do, this is week one. So try as I might, I put five games on this piece of paper, try as I might. The earthquake game, the jaw dropper is probably going to come from out of the rafters. It's going to be some 34 and a half point favorite. down by three in the fourth quarter, and you are watching in complete and utter disbelief, you cannot say the word never, never say never in week one. Unless it's, is it pine bluff, Arkansas pine bluff against Missouri? I feel okay about Missouri, favored by the double nickel, favored by 55 or perhaps 55 and a half. See the 55 or 55 and a half. I feel okay about drinking the boys in week one, whether a mod hearty plays or not, outside of that, never say never. Unless you're doubting RAM, because you should never doubt RAM. No matter the route your boys are running, there he goes. That's a good screenshot for later. No matter the route your boys are running, like even the service academy guys eventually run around. And no matter what route you're taking to the game, RAM, and I can back this up just because I've been looking around town and I'm noticing RAM's more and more. They never dropped the ball. So you've got capability, you've got durability that you can count on. And I think that right now as we speak, there is someone out there who is watching us on the phone or maybe listening to us on the phone and they kind of got in their back pocket because they're out in the garage. You know what they're doing? They're packing up. They're packing the back of the truck to head to the tailgate. It's the most beautiful time of year. The only thing that makes that more beautiful if it's the bed of a RAM. At that point, that's like a Norman Rockwell painting as far as I'm concerned. The RAM 1500 is America's most dependable full size truck. Jesse, you knew that. I'm just saying it in case someone else doesn't know it. We'll see. Appreciate RAM for being on board this year. Let's move on. Happy Labor Day, night going on. A lot of you have your festivities planned during the day. That's fine. Head out to the lake, visit the family, you know, grill up whatever you want to grill up. Just make sure by 7.30 Eastern time you got a TV around you because SMU is headed to Florida State. And this is the number two team versus the number 10 team in the ACC odds. So you might think to yourself, plus I saw Florida State struggling as New Mexico State blow out incoming. Yeah, the line is two and a half. So a fan duel, if you have information that this is going to be a blow out is offering you a golden investment opportunity on SMU and they're just mocking you at two and a half, not three and a half, two and a half. So how does this game go? SMU is replacing both coordinators. If you want to know what couldn't make this line lower, well, SMU hadn't played a game yet first off. And they're going into the building of someone who has already played a game. As I said, SMU is replacing both coordinators. They infused a ton of portal pieces again, opening on the road, Rhett Lashley apparently believes they should be seven to 10 point underdogs and Rhett Lashley is never told a lie. We do not have him on record as ever having told a lie. So it's got to be true. So how much does the quarterback edge here actually exist? And how much does it just slap me in the face when I'm watching this game? Because Kevin Jennings is a stud. Ashton Daniels is the starting quarterback for Florida State. No, no further adjectives at this time. But is it so different? Like is it so distinct that you watch it in retrospect and say, I can't believe I got fooled into thinking Florida State could hang in this game. So that comes down to me to how much Mike Norvel and his offensive staff have to ask Ashton Daniels to do because a couple of different ways that I kind of think this could go is number one. Maybe that SMU defensive front that's been totally rebuilt is a little bit shaky. If even if it rounds into form later, maybe it's a little bit shaky out of the gate because they were 19th against the run last year and they got a lot of new pieces there this year. And if Chroma, the guy is going to get going, maybe whizers involved there. That's a workable plan because that involves Ashton Daniels throwing it like 20 to 25 times instead of 40 to 45 times. And you get douche Robinson a little bit more involved because he was practically a ghost in the week zero game against New Mexico State. SMU, it would be fair to say they're questionable at corner, not weak, questionable at corner. That's one way it could go. That's the hopeful way. That's the upset is very much in the cards way and it would be a mild upset. But that why would kind of explain why that line looks the way it looks. Of course, there's another way it could go. And to me, the key there is how FSU's defensive front sort of affects Jennings because SMU's got a pretty veteran offensive line. And Kevin Jennings with time based on what I saw New Mexico State able to do. Finally, just getting open against Florida State. And that was pre DB injury. Based on what they were able to do, I'm pretty sure SMU could do some work against FSU secondary of Jennings has a whole lot of time to throw. And if that happens, then that disproportionately bends us towards a game script where FSU has to play from behind, which means Ashton Daniels has to throw the ball a lot. And a very unfortunate paper popper stat here, Daniels has 45 turnover, worthy plays to 25 touchdown passes as of late, not this year. Of course, that would be a record. So consider the impact on the ACC in this game. Consider that we've got three games of note here, Clemson plays LSU Saturday, Ole Miss plays Louisville Sunday, SMU plays FSU Monday. This could need to be a home run weekend for the ACC. Because we got Miami in their own orbit, although they are taking on Stanford, favored by over three touchdowns, but they are taking on Stanford on the road, kind of a weird spot. Miami will be okay. But if we set them over there, they have their own desk in the studio. Everybody else is sitting over here in the bullpen trying to figure out who's who or who's dishoomst. And whether we have any other contenders, is this going to be a one-bid league or a two-bid league? Virginia already and Virginia has a very workable path somehow still only fifth in the odds to win the conference, but they still have a workable path. But if SMU falls to FSU, Louisville falls to Ole Miss, Clemson falls to LSU, and Louisville and Clemson are over touchdown dogs. Well, Louisville is right around a touchdown dog, Clemson and double digit underdog. If SMU can't hold up there into the bargain right out of the gate, the odds of the ACC being a two-bid league are greatly, greatly, greatly reduced. So without a mind, you see, Fandall has SMU minus two and a half, surely the model disagrees. Surely the model thinks that Retlashley and the Boys should be a touchdown plus favorite. Surely you would be wrong, because the model agrees almost to the number. It has SMU minus three. And since I'm not going to bet on this game, and I can just run my mouth with no consequence, I will have to see it. So I'll take SMU to win, I'll take SMU to cover. I think they're just that much better a team than Florida State's going to be. I think they're that much better at quarterback than Florida State's going to be. And for all the questions that SMU has, I think they have questions that could be answered in the affirmative. But their question marks could become green check marks a whole lot more than FSU's questions, which kind of are tilting the other way it feels like. So give me SMU to win Monday night. And give me a win for all of you, especially those of you driving to the game, or any game this weekend, when you see those two letters in that red square, quick trip on the horizon, hit the brakes, or we'll find an off ramp, be responsible here, and hit the brakes, because I have written on my piece of paper here, two options, truthfully either of them are good. Here are the two options. A slice of pizza and a big Q drink for $4. That's option one. Option number two is a slice of pizza and a big Q drink for $3. You say Josh, sounds like option B is better than option A. I will agree with that. We ran the numbers. It's spending $3 is preferable to spending $4. All you have to do to spend $3 is download the app. But I would argue, even if you spend $4, it's still a worthwhile investment, because that pizza is really good. Like I always tout the cold brew on tap at quick trip, the pizza is pretty underrated. I always say no one in the world does pizza like quick trip. The Italians hate when I say that, but I stand by it. You know, back when we worked at CBS, side note here. But it was a complete pizza snob. Now I was good news for us because when we go over to his house, he makes us pizza from scratch. Big pizza snob though. You know how sometimes you'll joke around with someone like in the office when Jim would joke around about Battlestar Galactica with Dwight? He knew he was joking, but Battlestar Galactica was so close to his heart. He didn't possess the filter to understand that it was a joke and he would always lash out. The first time that I ever told management, no one does pizza like Nashville? His mind nearly exploded out of his skull. And it still works to this day. To the point where I will probably send him this clip and it will work, how about some sleepers? Someone asked us about some sleepers. Ben from McLean. Virginia said, who are some teams that may shot the general public if they made the playoff, but not necessarily the end the no fan? Well, how shocking would Virginia be? We've seen them play. I mean, they already cleared one of their highest hurdles because their schedules largely trash, not their fault, they're not a trash team, but they already, I mean, they already beat NC state into a coma and you might say to yourself, how's that one of their highest hurdles? Well, look at this, look at this on the screen right here. They've got Norfolk state this week playing Coach Vic in the boys and then they got West Virginia, Florida state. My point is there's no Miami, there's no Louisville, there's no Clemson. They've got a ton of experience. They're using Bo Pribuelo the way he should be used. Their win total is still only eight and a half. There's still only the fifth best odds team to win the league, whatever Virginia would be that team to me. I'll ask you this, Bradley, tell me that schedule back up for a second. What would happen if Virginia was undefeated and went to Charlotte and lost? Are you telling me 12 and 1 Virginia is not making the playoffs? I know that's a long way away, they got a game at SMU, that's going to be a tough game. But like, what if, what if? So anyway, I would say Virginia would be a surprise to most of the country, but if you watch them in week one, I don't think that that prospect should totally shock you. Next up, Florida, I think Florida would shock people if they made the playoffs. And to me, the argument for Florida is a mixture of talent and schedule. I mean, you got the talent piece in that, hey, if Aaron Filo and Buster fought in or like, if that entire dynamic clicks and quarterback is not a weakness for Florida, then at wide receiver rooms, nasty, that tailback rooms, nasty, we'll see about offensive lines. But the second part of that is if that talent, if those talent ingredients come together, they're schedule. When you start walking through it a little bit, you know, they start 2 and 0 and then you kind of say, all right, they go to Auburn, that's going to be a hard fought game. But if they win that Auburn game and they start 3 and 0, they catch Ole Miss right after Ole Miss played LSU, very vulnerable Ole Miss team, could be 4 and 0 because they get them in the swamp. And then they go to Missouri and then they got South Carolina at home. And candidly, at that point, if you're a Florida fan, you're thinking, we outclass both of those teams from a roster standpoint, we could be 6 and 0 headed to Austin, Texas on October 17th and buddy, who does Texas play the week before? They play the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Shootout known by no other name on this show. But there's a world where Florida starts 6 and 1, 7 and 0 if everything were to align. And then there's a by-week and they play Georgia and all of a sudden you're talking about going into Halloween with Florida squarely in the playoff mix. You see how easy that was? Coach Summerall? I just put you in the playoff mix. It took a minute. You guys have been working all spring and all summer and it was just that easy. And now it's up to you to execute the plan. Could UCLA shock people? Yes, UCLA being in the playoffs with shock people. They're over underwind total of 6 and a half. Huge game saturday night against Cal. Kind of the same theme is Virginia. We knew Virginia had a big game against NC State to start, right? Well, what if UCLA beats Cal at Cal? They start 1 and 0. Then they got San Diego State and Purdue at home. Could very well be 3 and 0. And they go to Maryland. They outclass Maryland. Even this year I think they outclass Maryland. Not easy to fly all the way over there but my point is you could see UCLA being 4 and 0 going to Oregon. And if they lose at Oregon, they lose at Oregon. They shouldn't beat them this year. But if they start 4 and 1 and then they come home for Wisconsin, Michigan, State, Nevada, there's a world where they win all those games. If it all clicks, if it doesn't, it's a moot point. If it's clicking, if Bob Chesney has that magic in year 1, if Niko Yamalayava is playing up to his once upon a time potential in year 1, then UCLA could be in the mix. And either at that point, they become one of the surprise stories of the sport this year or they become able to wreck someone else's story, either way, it could be fun. And Houston is the other one that I wanted to circle back on. They opening it to Oregon State, but in general, Connor Wegman with a top 10 portal class around him. I'm a Kai Hughes getting a shot at running back. It's one of the oldest teams in the big 12 and they got that road test at Texas Tech in week three on a Friday night. That's the first time America will see Houston this year. They may go up there and get run and at that point, you kind of forget about them, but they may go up there and really, really compete to and they may end up on everyone's radar. And if they beat Texas Tech to start conference play and they go to again, it looks like a typo, but it's not Houston goes from playing in Lubbock, Texas to Statesboro, Georgia and back to back weeks, just a dereliction of scheduling duty. I'm sure they're happy to have them in Statesboro, but my goodness. So if they were to beat Texas Tech, you would look at the rest of their schedule and you'd say there is no tougher task. There's no bigger test on this schedule. And now we got kind of a game and a half lead on Texas Tech. Houston could make some noise. We'll see. My point actually had nothing to do with seat geek, but I'm going to make a point about seat geek. A lot of tickets are needed right now. I know it's that time of year where you have thought about the games you're going to attend. You do it, I know, I know this lifestyle. You do it all throughout spring. You do it all throughout summer, but August and then September kind of sneaks up on you and it very quickly goes from, we'll figure it out to, no, it's time to figure it out. My advice, if you can afford it, go to the games, okay? Don't buy the jet ski by the tickets because memories are worth more than an asset. It's just going to depreciate in value. You know, John Matier 2.0 is, I'm calling it, even though it's his third season as a starter, begins tomorrow night. Here's where your mind kinda needs to be. UTEP at Oklahoma is not gonna be much of a fight. I think the over-under for team points for UTEP's five and a half. Don't expect the miners to make much noise here, but we get our first look at John Matier. We get our first look at the throwing motion. We get our first look at a lot of pieces of Oklahoma, so that's happening at eight o'clock on SEC Network ESPN+ real big mouthful. But the main events come later in the night 'cause we got Miami at Stanford and Fresno State at USC and those both kick off at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. But here's what I don't want you to do. This is why it's a viewer's guide. I don't want you to just ignore that one hour before that, there's a game in East Lansing, Michigan that kicks off. And here's what could be possible. What could be possible is you had no intention of watching Toledo and Michigan State. But then you find out around half time of these other games that started an hour later, oh snap, man. Toledo's got Michigan State in Quicksand, and so you need to be cognizant of that game. That one is on FS1. But then Saturday, early slate. They're calling it sleepy Jesse. That's how I know something horrific's gonna happen. They're calling it sleepy. We're gonna watch Indiana against North Texas and Bama's got East Carolina. South Carolina's got our boys from Kent State. Press has already bet the Golden Flashes as is tradition. I got Ohio State. We just got to make sure all the big favorites get off the ground smoothly. Smooth take off. They're up three touchdowns plus at the half. And if that's the case, great. Good for them. Stay healthy in the second half. And go get your orange slices and Capri Sun after the game. But Liberty at James Madison is a really big game. And that one is at noon on ESPNU. And that's the number one team in conference USA. And that's the number one team in Sunbelt in preseason odds. That one has playoff implications on it. And James Madison right now, six and a half point favorite, Billy Napier's, James Madison, Duke's, six and a half point favorite. And as you're watching that, I also want you to just bear in mind. We had to get the Youngstown State logo. We had to import the penguin earlier today. Kentucky has Alabama in week two, right? None of you really know they have Youngstown State in week one. This is a one o'clock kickoff on SEC network, ESPN plus. Kentucky's a 22 and a half point favorite. Everything's new at Kentucky, okay? So, you know, perfect case scenario. It's Kenny Menchi and a 42, 13 route, whatever, all's well that ends well. That's that's that game that's just sitting there at one o'clock. Don't lose track of it. Check in on that game and check in on Coastal Carolina at West Virginia. West Virginia, we took a prop bet in the bold prediction segment that West Virginia is going to have three 1,000 yard receivers. We may, what'd you say, Jesse? Rushers, hmm, that'd be tough. Yeah, probably not even one 1,000 yard rusher receiver for West Virginia. Good catch. They would have smoked me in the chat and the comment section. So, hey, if West Virginia is going to have three 1,000 yard rushers, it probably has to start in this game. Also, Coastal is a 21 and a half point dog. This is a noon kickoff on TNT. So, let's not overlook those games, but eventually we get to the midday slate. Now, question number one, as the midday games kick off, do we have a potential earthquake that is in its final stages from that early slate? Because you know, you get the overlap, you get the end of those games right at the middle of these games, maybe or maybe not. But even if you don't have the earthquake outcomes, we've got Boise at Oregon at 330 on CBS. We got Baylor Auburn has game of the weekend potential, the 330 kickoff on ABC. We've got Texas State at Texas. Now, Texas is a big favor. They're like a 29 and a half point favor. That's on ESPN though. We get our first look at arch this year. We got our first look at that new tailback talent. We get to see that offensive line. We get to see if Texas could actually be a defensive team, the first month of the season. Keep an eye though. Keep an eye on Northern Illinois at Iowa. That's a 415 Eastern time kickoff for 345. Some time in the mid afternoon slate on, is it big 10 network or ESPNU? Okay, it said big 10 network. We don't have a starting quarterback name for Iowa. We don't know yet. We have no idea what's about to happen here. Now, I was a big favorite still, but that one bears close watching and Oklahoma State at Tulsa bears close watching. I am very, very curious about how Eric Morris's team, which is both totally overhauled, like 90 new players, but also the one with the most experienced rosters in the country, how are they gonna roll into Tulsa? They lost that game last year. So that's a 330 kickoff on ACC network? Is that right? Why would that be right? Yeah, I don't know about all that. Anyway, I think I got ESPNU here. You can search for it and you'll find it. Those two games and then Marshall at Penn State, creeping into the back end of the rotation. So that's a 330 kickoff on FS1. And if Penn State gets off to a hot start, probably don't need to pay much attention to that game, but those are games I'm looking at. And then Saturday night, you got the headliner, down in Death Valley. So you got Clemson, LSU, 730 kickoff, ABC. Everyone will have that on a main screen somewhere. But might I direct your attention as you're killing time before the LSU game kicks off? Two ESPN plus at seven o'clock in Memphis, Tennessee. Charles Huff and the boys have come home after a successful trip to Vegas, taking down Dan Mullin and UNLV. Dan Mullin's only a 3.5 against Hawaii, by the way. But I didn't put that one on the sheet. Anyway, Arkansas State comes into Memphis. Arkansas State's an 11 1/2 point dog. Butch Jones is an 11 1/2 point underdog against Memphis. And that kicks off 30 minutes before Clemson and LSU. I wanna keep an eye on it. And then the game that is popular right now to be circled as potential game of the weekend material is UCLA at Cal. And that one's at 10 30. And I'm not pushing back on it, by the way. It very much could be. I think either team has a chance to be one of the most entertaining in the country this year. Of course, we've got Sunday games, by the way. Your Sunday lineup is as follows. Following church in the morning. We are going to do our show at one Eastern noon central Sunday. We always do this in week one. 'Cause the schedule messes us up. So our full Sunday reaction show will be noon central, one Eastern. Then you got the Apple Cup at four o'clock on NBC. You got two big time games that night. You got Louisville Ole Miss right here in Nashville. And you got Wisconsin Notre Dame. And that's way up the road in Green Bay. And then of course SMU at Florida State is your Monday night game. The viewers guide. We got to try and map it out. You only have so many screens. You only have so much attention. And your attention always ends up going to a screen that you didn't plan on it going to. But you got to be aware. You can't be in the dark. You can't have an upset halfway through the fourth quarter because you just then remember that it's on. You got to stay locked in. all those games if you want. want action on them, or available at FanDuel. But the bet reset is in play this week. This is great.
