I don't know how people did some recreational stuff yesterday instead of watching college football, but they did, apparently. We're jam packed. We're high atop a sunny downtown Nashville, Tennessee. On the September 6th, the MR Lord 2026, a complete screw job in Ann Arbor, Michigan, there's no other way to put that. You know it. I know it. Everyone, even in the Big Ten League office, had the roles been reversed, I highly doubt that the process plays out the way it did. So, sometimes things are misunderstood, misconstrued. This is not one of those. The league deserves to be ripped to pieces and we're going to do that today. I'm going to talk about LSU. I'm going to talk about Clemson. We were down there. We were in Baton Rouge last night and I've still got a voice, blessed to say, because the game turned out like it did. It was pretty easy to talk in there by the end of the game for the best of reasons for the home team. Tons of winners, tons of losers in week one, lot more to come tonight. That's why we're doing the show as early as we are. All that pleasant behind the scenes stuff from our time in Baton Rouge this weekend. Let's get to it. What a night in Death Valley. The Don't Tread on Saturday tour in town. It was presented by Jimmy John's. They fueled us all the way down there and filled us up in the process. We appreciate Jimmy John's for being alongside all year long on the Don't Tread on Saturday tour. Hey, look, this game was a one shall I dud as far as watchability was concerned. But that's the least of anyone's concerns down there. I know some of you have been to LSU games before. Many, many more of you have not. You see these jokes that float around sometimes. Oh, man, Louisiana is not a real place. Oh, man, LSU is its own world. Do you know why people say that? Because Louisiana is not a real place and because LSU is its own world. I am pausing to marvel at the B-roll that press shot on the sideline that I didn't know he shot. I'm just kind of reliving it last night. It was really, really an amazing spectacle. And yet there's so much to take away and a couple of extreme sides of the coin that you could take away from this game. But we were there all day Friday. I just want to tell you, I was in that building all day Friday. I was with that staff all day. I was with those players all day. I'm just going to put this as bluntly as I can because they said the same thing last night that they were saying to us Friday. That game played out exactly as they expected it to play out. There was very, very little surprise on the LSU side with the way it played out last night. Now, people have run their mouths before and failed to deliver before big games. So I always take it as it comes and then I'm always of the opinion of let's say it play out. Well, this was an example of a bunch of folks who knew they were about to do something to someone and then they went and did that thing to the someone and it played out exactly as they said it would for the reasons that they said it would. So the best thing about weak ones in general is you get to find out. It's fun to talk, but we talked past the time, man. You go to media days to pass the time and then the games happen. So like with LSU, hey, everybody could have an opinion about Sam Levit and the whole injury thing in the spring. Is he going to be okay, you know, think all the way back to like April? Is he going to be okay? Is he going to be right? Is he going to be like the 2024 version of himself where we saw those flashes of greatness? Well, he was 16 of 28 for 230 through the air and ran it for over 100 last night as well. You look like a player who could win a national championship for you. So that's a big green check mark. Okay. We got what we think. We got what we hoped we'd have rather in Sam Levit and then the run game. The run game was horrible last year, probably the worst in the league last year statistically. And you wonder, Lane Kiffin always is able to run the ball. His offense is always able to run the ball. Is unless you're going to be able to run the ball, do they have the personnel? It's offensive line, man. They went to the portal. Is that guys? Are they going to be able to run the ball? 309 to 40. Those were the respective rushing statistics last night. Big green check mark. Unless you can run the ball. By the way, 309 yards in a game last night. That's more than they had against Ole Miss, A&M, Alabama and Oklahoma combined last year. You want to know what the transfer portal can do for you to semi-steel align from UPS? You want to know what the portal can do for you? You want to know what a change it had coach can do for you? You want to know why those guys get paid the amount of money they do? Because if you go from having the wrong one to having the right one, that's how different the output can look. Over the course of one year, that's how different it can look. Defense. Blake Baker spent a lot of time with him Friday, actually. Is he really an American hero? Is Blake Baker really the kind of guy that if we need to, can win us a game? Is this person now, some of these young guys here, I mean, are they really what the whispers lead us to believe they are? Four sacks, 11 tackles for loss and Clemson had 10 drives of 10 yards or less. And I'm going to be real with you. They didn't like Clemson up nearly as much as they could have pressure wise. And that was largely the plan going in. Or else, those sack numbers, I suspect, could be way higher than four. And those tackles for loss could be way higher than 11. But you see, there was a three on the scoreboard. And that was the result of a turnover going into the fourth quarter aside from that Clemson's done nothing all night. So that defense, sunk its teeth in, it was like they were jaws and Clemson was quint. And they're strashing and screaming and there's blood all over the place. And then it's quiet because the shark has taken the prey underwater. I actually would work pretty good in a hype video, a little bit violent, a little bit graphic, but it is what it is. The outside noise, boy, you know, come week one, we're going to find out is the outside noise going to impact this team, a lot of distractions, you know. And when you really think about it, with all the stuff being said about lane, all the stuff being said about the court cases and the legal drama. And then all the stuff with the pregame up to and including a long weather delay. I don't know that you could have turned the volume up anymore in the form of outside distraction and external dynamics being a factor. If you let them be a factor, then there was on this game last night. And then not only that go into the game, Jesse, I mean, LSU turns the ball over early. And if you were to write up the formula for Clemson pulling the upset, wouldn't it have started with an early turnover given Clemson the ball and plus territory and they score first. Yeah, that's what the formula would have looked like. This was still a splatter. flattering. We may have had the splattering of the year in week one. And so every single box that you could have wanted checked for LSU, if you're an LSU fan, was checked. And every single box that you hoped was a red X. If you're a hater of that program, I regret to inform you turned into a green check mark. It's a long season. Yeah, of course. But in the meantime, there's a piano over in the corner. And that is reserved once per week for a very unspecial, unenviable portion of our show. But ladies and gentlemen, is there any doubt the Sarah McLaughlin special of week one is the Clemson Tigers through three quarters of this game. They had been outgain 507 to 73 LSU led 44 to three. At the end of the third quarter, Clemson was 0 of 11 on third downs. LSU would nearly run twice as many plays as Clemson had LSU had more touchdowns through three quarters than Clemson had first downs. And outside of that first possession, Clemson did not cross the 50 yard line until the fourth quarter. 11 of their 13 drives were under 20 yards in this game. Clemson had 8 first downs in this game. That's the fewest for them since '06. This is brutality. It's a two-page Sarah McLaughlin special. LSU had the most first downs in program history. They've played football since 1902. Clemson ran 48 total plays last night. Paper Popper, LSU ran 47 of them in Clemson territory. It goes on. 41 points is the biggest loss in Clemson history under Davos Swenny. And here it is. It's not even written in ink. This looks like dried blood. It's the Clemson Drive chart. Field goal. Pyt. Interception. Settle in for this. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Pyt. Bliq Baker brings in the threes. Touchdown. Clemson. Your Sarah McLaughlin special of week one. It was a great night for LSU. It was a spectacle. It was a recruiting event. It was a social event. They're calling it the event on the Bayou of the weekend. And we were blessed to be there. I'll tell you more about that in a little while. But as for Clemson, there is a school of thought. And I'm not so sure I buy into it. Although I think there's merit to the logic of it. There's a school of thought that says, at least if you're going to have an outcome that goes against you, make it be so glaring that even the last remaining holdouts, even the final skeptic is forced to admit something. And so if you're making that point, and your point is that sort of the sun has set on the dabbo era, however you want to phrase it, then you are right. Because there's no doubt after last night. I mean, I love dabbo's money. And I fully respect what he's done at Clemson. There's no doubt, man. The book closed. And it closed a while back. It's just that if you were a skeptic and you really wanted to, you could convince yourself, oh, things just went wrong for us. Man, K club, it wasn't that guy. Garrett Riley wasn't that guy. But now that everyone doubts us again, now that dabbo brought Chad Morris back. And dabbo sounds like he's fully energized. Maybe this year, you know, with a bunch of nobodies. That's when we'll get it now. No, it just turns out he was telling the truth. They got a bunch of nobodies. It just turns out all that happened last year was they missed their window. And now the roster's worse. It was glaring. So I don't know how anyone denies that at this point. They've scored 10 points or less and five of their last six openers, by the way. So I'm fully comfortable letting the games play out. And that's why throughout the spring and summer, everyone had their theories on Clemson and last year and how it would relate to this year. Dabbo had his theories about that. We sat and talked with him, spent two days with him. And he's shared his theories about what went wrong last year and the changes they had made. I don't doubt he fully believed in the changes they had made. But it's not real. By real, I don't mean the changes weren't real. I mean, it's not going to work. It's not going to work to come anywhere close to meeting what had become the Clemson standard under dabbo, Swinney. So I have no idea what will happen with them going forward. But this was this was such a sledgehammer to the face of a result. That it's the kind of thing where anything's in play. It's like last year when we went into the season, we didn't know that there were some things less than two months down the road that would have dumbfounded us. Had you shown us the preview in the preseason. But then you get these results once the season starts that are beyond the pale, they're beyond the scope, they're off the radar of expectation. And when you get an off the radar of expectation result, that means anything's in play. This was an off the radar result, which means anything's in play. If you tell me any form of outcome is going to happen this year, as it relates to dabbo, Swinney, as it relates to Clemson, I think I would believe it. Because I'm telling you, there were some people around that program. I'm talking about beyond dabbo, who really believed a person. Otherwise, we got a squad that can compete in the ACC, like even if we go lose to LSU. But when they said that, their version of lose to LSU is we go down there and lose 24 to 17. We lose 27 to 24. There was nothing. There was not a single card in the Clemson deck of expectation that said 51 to 10. None. And that's even with them gifting you a turnover to start the game. So I honestly don't know what's going to happen moving forward. It's a Clemson decision. Like that's a decision they have to make. They always wondered when people asked about the future there. I always wondered if it goes bad, like glaringly bad, which would be this. Does it get contentious or is there sort of a resignation to reality by all parties involved? And frankly, I don't know the answer to that. In best case scenario, it doesn't come to that and they'll get the ship righted. And who knows, maybe they pull the trigger and take Reynolds is a guy that just pulls it out of the fire for them. I have a tough time seeing that right now. I mean, they looked really, really, really bad. But football seasons are long. Okay, you can say that for Clemson. You could also say it for LSU too. You could look at it and say, "Hey, man, maybe Clemson's just not that good. Let's not get carried away." Okay, don't get carried away. Like, I've always had a rule, especially early in the season around here that we call the overflow theory. And that is, like, if you have a cup, if I set a cup right here, I'll start pouring water into it. There's only so full a cup can get. And then it's just overflowing. The cup's not getting any fuller. So, like, by the time this is 31 to 10, it's over. 31, 10, 51, 10, it's all the same thing at that point. But yet, if you let 51 live in your mind, it can warp your expectation for the future. Yeah, that's fine. And it is true that Clemson, maybe just a really bad team and this result builds up this expectation bubble that maybe gets pulled back to Earth a little bit. But dude, a lot of this stuff from LSU was not an illusion last night. Like Sam Levitt's skill set's not an illusion. That defense's ability is not an illusion. Their ability to run the ball again. That's not an illusion. It may not always be this extreme, but that's not an illusion. Like, they're going to go to Augsford in a few weeks. They're going to play Alabama eventually. They're going to play Texas eventually. They're going to play A&M eventually. I guarantee you once the film of this game lands in the laps of those staffs, they're not looking at it saying, man, I bet people think they're good. Well, we'll show them. Yeah, I don't think that's the reaction in Tuscaloosa or Austin after seeing that last night. But it is true that seasons are long and it is true that this sport, it works in weird ways and one of the main things that can screw this up for LSU is LSU because there's a lot they're going to have to deal with in the way of expectations and external factors. Yeah, that's a factor, but every winner in history has had to deal with that. So if LSU is going to be a winner, they're going to have to deal with that. Lane dealt with it at Ole Miss to an extent. The volume will be turned up way higher on this than anything he's ever dealt with at any point in his life as a head coach actually. He's probably got the mentality where he'll be fine, like he'll deal with it. Those players are going to go through this for the first time. We'll see. It's part of the fun. I mean, there's a team or two every September that ends up being the talk of the month. And then there's a team or two that ends up being the talk of the season. So if they want to play something that reverberates around that building, it's that. You're going to be the talk of the month or you're going to be the talk of the season because it's totally up to LSU because they could be either with no problem. That team can win a national championship. That team can go eight and four. I'd have a tough time seeing the latter, but it was a fun time down there last night. Really fun time. Which begs the question where we're going in week two where are we going in week two? They don't tread on Saturday tour presented by Jimmy John's on the road every week not just week one I Know that the whole world is going to be in Austin, Texas Oh, hi, the states in town. That's a big one. That's a really big one But I couldn't help notice that there was an outcome. There was a result that reverberated around the country last night That didn't happen in Austin, Texas didn't happen in Columbus, Ohio. It happened in Ann Arbor, Michigan I'm gonna talk about the game in just a second But first I'm gonna let you know that don't tread on Saturday tour is going to head to the University of Michigan this Saturday For Oklahoma at Michigan to that point our show Bus and in paint on campus will be at Michigan this Friday Because I got to know I got to know is the thing that always happens in college football going to happen again Where this team looks completely this convibrated and terrible in week one, but then week two It's like someone flipped a light switch is it that or is it really that Michigan's just That vulnerable Michigan is really not improved Bryce under you know what I'll get to it in the game breakdown But look, that's why we're going to the game. Also, it's one of my favorite venues to go to and I don't know how often we'll get to get up there We're gonna see Texas probably multiple times at this point. Oh my goodness Michigan allegedly according to some beat Western Michigan 13 to 12 last night We watched this in a sprinter van and I had no clue what I was seeing I've truthfully still don't know what I saw in pro wrestling they call this the dusty finish like I'm just yelling Oh, it's a dusty finish. It's a dusty finish and it occurs to you most of the people around you Don't know what the dusty finish is so dusty roads back in the NWA days back in like the 80s They would do a finish where Someone wins the match You know their celebration or there's anger, but then an official or a commissioner You know some form of authority figure comes out and says nope blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah and because of that Restart the match and then you restart the match and the other guy wins Didn't think would ever see it in college football. I saw stat earlier today Teams that led at the end of regulation were like 110,000 and zero in the history of college football until yesterday Cannot believe that this was allowed to happen I assume most of you have seen the ending of this game if you have not seen the ending of this game We have got Michigan being really put in a vice grip by Western Michigan outside of the opening drive for the final three quarters and Lance Taylor in the boys have Michigan on the ropes and Michigan's got one more shot from midfield and they heave it And it's out of the back of the end zone and time expires and everyone sees it and then there's a review and the officials or the replay officials order officials to throw one second back on the clock and then What happens in the cruelest of dramas happens and a second shot at a Hail Mary Or as they're calling it the Bayon Mary leads to a walkoff touchdown for Michigan I can't believe this was allowed to happen. I mean I I cannot believe it was allowed to happen And it's in front of the world. This is not a high school game in Saginaw on a Friday night. This is in front of the whole world And this is what you delivered and I was in a unique position on this so We saw what was the original ending of the game. I'm with Taylor LaWan. Okay, he is He's emotionally in a really bad place because he thinks they're about to lose and then he thinks they have lost the game So we turn the game off You know like you normally do when a game ends And then someone yells like a minute and a half later. Hey, hey, they put a second back on the clock And then you know, we pulled the game back up on the phone And we see the ending But we didn't watch the replay process take place So I'm just assuming oh there must have just been a second left I had no idea what had gone into it. So then you get the win And our trip like our tour destination this week was contingent on the outcome of this game So like we think oh our plans have been thrown in a lurch. Oh by the way well never mind Michigan Just one LaWan's going crazy. I'm happy for him And it wasn't until like an hour or two later that I found out what had transpired So Assuming everyone has seen the finish here and assuming everyone is familiar with the details Let's get into this cause the big 10 conference Two hours after the game ends two hours after people have just like sat in a stew of anger They hop on Canva and they they release this edit here And if you can't read the font don't worry about it It's eat everybody screwed up as the decision itself But what they're basically saying is hey Actually what happened was we've kind of got a different clock than the game clock that you see on the screen And so according to our secret clock that no one knew about until two hours after the game that we're informing you of, there was some time left. I have been on the phone with several officials and several referees this morning who wanted to make sure that they articulated how much of a CYA move this is, how big of a pile of garbage that is from the Big Ten League office, and how egregious, like beyond the pale horrifically bad, the mechanizations of the way that was handled last night were. Every single one of them, I couldn't find a single official, multiple conferences, couldn't find a single official that could even get close to skirting defending this. And they walked me through the scenarios that could potentially put some time back on the clock. For example, if that ball hits the upright, if that ball hits unofficial, those are some situations and circumstances where you could justify putting time back on the clock. None of those things happen. I can also tell you this, the Big Ten League office probably isn't going to give you a log into a DV sport, but some of them have it. So they can log in and they can look at the exact same thing that the League office is looking at. I'm telling you, there was no time left on that clock, and it took a coal miner's worth of effort for the League office. You can tell because it took two hours for them to dig and dig and dig and somehow focus a group, that pile of crap that was an explanation as to how we can somehow justify this. And here's the thing. I would love for someone in the League office to look me in the eye and tell me if Western Michigan was at midfield heaving a prayer up and that exact same set of circumstances were to have played out that this is the way it would have gone down. There's no way you could look me in the eye and tell me that, no way. So I'm thinking to myself, surely this can't stand. Surely the Big Ten steps in and does something. And then the Big Ten steps in and instead of doing the right thing, they do that thing. They go full CYA mode and they put out that terrible graphic and I'm left thinking to myself, wait a second now, hold up. Never telling me the conference that just this past spring considered issuing a league-wide mandate not to schedule Texas tech after the Soresby stuff because of wait for it, integrity of the game is expecting me and a skeptical public to believe after two hours and a Canva edit later that they've explained the way the problem here. That's what I'm supposed to believe. I'm supposed to believe. We've got a clock now, these multi-million dollar TV rights deals tie you to a network that has a clock on the screen, but come to find out, that's not the real clock. And we're going to wait two hours after the game. We're going to tell you guys, no, no, no, no, there's another clock, and it's a magic clock. And truthfully, we don't have to tell you where the clock is, we don't have to tell you who runs it, we didn't even have to tell you it exists. You're blessed that we're even communicating this with you, transparency after all. Nice transparency, so important, ladies and gentlemen, it's important because if you don't have integrity of game and outcome, then you don't have a sport. And the big 10 knows that because the big 10 threatened just a few months ago to issue a league-wide mandate not to schedule Texas A&M. Why? Well, because Brendan Soresby bet on games that he was in and lies at Texas Tech. And if that's allowed to stand, then we're not upholding the integrity of the game, however, what we can do here is we can completely bastardize the replay and review process. And then we could toss a second back on a clock. We can get the outcome that truthfully we desire. And then we can wait and see how pissed off people are. And when we see that they're pissed off to a certain level we're not comfortable with, we'll put out a poorly worded at it, and that'll be it. And we'll tell them there's another clock and they'll believe it. Why? Because they're idiots. But they're not. You know, we're not. We actually, everyone knows what they saw and everyone knows that a team got robbed. Everyone knows that. Do you know that everyone knows that? Do you know that you rip at the fabric of the integrity of the game that you guys care so much about anytime something like this happens? That's why it shouldn't be in the big 10s hands. That's why a billion dollar industry shouldn't have a nickel and dime rules enforcement mechanism attached to it. But that's what college football officiating is. This is not me piling on officials because I had a ton of them reach out to me and say, that's garbage. That's garbage and that's something that once you reach that point is above our heads. And if you want to know whether that's real or not, you know, there was an instance last year in the ACC of an official that went against the replay booth's decision. And I guess what that dude is, he's not officiating anymore. They have no option. They got no recourse. I don't know the guys who were on this crew. My guess is the guys that were on that crew hated what they were told to do. That's my guess. I don't have first hand knowledge of that. That's my guess. But integrity and transparency, boy, it's so easy to shout those words when it's not in your backyard, when it's about someone in Lubbock, Texas. And by the way, I didn't have any problem with what they were saying about it because I didn't like the source of the situation either. But then it happened right there in your backyard. And instead of doing the right thing, you contribute to the thing. It's fascinating the way that went down. That entire system should be overhauled. It should not be in the hands of conference officials. It should not be in the hands of a conference replay team. Because that's not the way that a sport this big with this much on the line should operate. Like if you want to know what I would do if I were college football commissioner, one of the first things I would do is I would take away your ability to make your own schedule. And I would also take away a conference's ability to control the officiating mechanism. Because it should be uniform and standardized to begin with. Even before this happened, that's what college football officiating should always have been. Unless we don't care about transparency, unless we don't care about integrity of game. I hope anyone in that league office talks about transparency and integrity of game again after this. Now, as for Michigan. As the summer went on, I started to believe in Michigan more and more. I thought there was a reasonable logic that you could put behind believing more structure, a more dependable offensive system. Bryce Underwood, his second year as a starter, being in this environment, could lead to better results. I started to convince myself of that. And folks around the Michigan program, as you started to get more and more through spring and summer, I know a lot of people started to believe in that. You start to believe that man, that run game and Bryce contributing to it, that's going to be a factor. That defense combined with that, that's a sneaky team. I believed all these things, but summer vibes do eventually give way to seasonal realities. And I know it's one game. And this is a good Western Michigan team. But I hated what I saw yesterday. Outside of that first drive, I mean, Marshall and Hyder combined for 59 yards in the backfield. And then outside of that, Bryce Underwood looked lost. And it's disappointing. I don't blame them because Michigan doesn't make my prediction for me. I kind of look at it and here's my instinct. My instinct, and maybe it's a defense mechanism, is to try and hold out a little bit longer. Because you always tell yourself, don't overreact to week one. You'll get down the rabbit hole if thinking week one is the whole season. Teams can improve dramatically week one to week two. Yeah, yeah, all that's true in theory. If that happens, no one will be happier than me. But you got Oklahoma coming into town in six days. All due respect to Western Michigan. The volume gets turned up a whole lot louder than last night. And the volume was loud enough last night where you guys ripped the headphones off your head. So I don't know how you think Oklahoma's going to sound this Saturday. But that's going to be a struggle to move the ball. That's going to be a struggle to score. If they look anything like they looked last night, and I don't know, it's college football. It's a very unpredictable sport. It's why you love it. But there's almost like the Michigan part of it. And then there's the entire separate topic that is officiating. And it's almost, we were talking in the production meeting about ripping that out of this and doing its own segment. That's kind of what that's worth. I know a lot of you guys, I know you're angry. Now on the chalai rating system, I'm given this one three and a half chalai because aesthetically, this was not the most pleasing game to look at. But yet when it came down to the end, you don't have any fingernails left. You chewed them down to the nubs. So there's huge credit, I think, due to both teams. How could that be, Josh? This was an ugly game, man. A bunch of turnovers in this game. Were there? Were there? You mean when teams with a bunch of questions don't dot competition and don't schedule cupcakes in week one and play real opponents that it could be really ugly out of the gate? Well, that's shocking, isn't it, Jesse? Hey, Auburn could have scheduled prairie view. Okay, Baylor could have scheduled a team from the outskirts of some unknown town in Texas you've never heard of before and they could have both won by half a hundred. They scheduled each other. I hate that it was in Atlanta and I love the people at Aflach. I love the people at Mercedes-Benz. I've friends with a lot of you that says nothing to do with you. This has to do with the fact that Gernhard Stadium set dormant yesterday while this happened in a sanitized environment up the road. Not the biggest fan of that, but I've spoken to my piece on that. Let's talk about the game. Of course, you never apologize for winning. I have it. Actually, that's a lie. I have listen Alex Gola's just press conference, so I know he did not apologize for winning. But I would just ask this, if you're an Auburn fan, I'm looking at one right now. If you're an Auburn fan, nay, maybe even an Auburn alum, Bradley. You can hear me. I know you can't. If I told you Friday that your offensive line would struggle that bad and I told you that Byron Brown is throwing three picks, he's going to get sacked five times, Baylor's going to have 11 tackles for loss. You would have thought, what? Death, disaster, destruction, all the days. That's what you would have thought. And yet, you won the game. So if I'm an Auburn fan, I am choosing to consider this rock bottom for us. This is the absolute floor. We walked in on the construction site, that is the Auburn 2026 season, and you can still smell the freshly cut lumber or in college football terms. You can still smell the new hire around here. And we got out of the gate with a win and it was ugly and there was probably no world where it wasn't going to be ugly, but it's only up from here. At least that's what I tell myself. I know what that October schedule looks like, but we'll get to October when October gets here. In the meantime, what you can't quantify to my knowledge is grit, but they did show it because you got a defense on the field 99 plays, wasn't it, Jesse? I think that defense ran 99 plays and right there at the end, DJ Lugway gives you the full extreme of the DJ Lugway experience. And he's dragging a peg leg like at some point, it sounded like that when DJ Lugway was walking around. Or it, basically. And I don't want to make light of the injury, but I mean, I was watching the game on mute. You got to understand. So the injury could not have looked more cinematically dramatized than it did if you watched it on mute. Because I'm watching Lugway make some terrible plays, then make some heroic plays, then hop on one foot, and then be like double shoulder help to the locker room. But Lugway gets them in the end zone at the end. And then it's up to you to keep them out of the end zone when they go for two to win the game. And there's Eric Winters. There it is. After 99 plays. I don't know that he played all 99, but there's Eric Winters and that defense making a stop. It is good that Byron Brown was eight of 12 on third down for 110 yards. That is a good thing. But this is highly entertaining to watch. I wonder about Baylor here. You know, I wonder about both of them, but about Baylor, we sure did get the full range of outcome, didn't we? I feel like I was right there in the passenger seat with DJ. I know some people are watching to show for the first time. I am a believer that I've never gotten a prediction wrong in my life. I've either been right or kids, coaches or officials have screwed it up for me. I've never been wrong. And last year, did I predict DJ Lugway to be the number one quarterback in the SEC? Yes. Did some people screw up that prediction for me? Yes. Do I take accountability? Not really. But I was willing to watch him transfer to Baylor and believe in him again. Now, I didn't pick Baylor to win, but I picked Baylor plus seven and a half. It was one of my favorite bets of the week. I believe this will be a very close game. And sure enough, it was a close game. And why? Close, we got the full range of outcomes that is the DJ Lugway Experience trademark. Michael Vick trademarked his own experience, made commercials out of it back in the day. You got the DJ Lugway Experience yesterday. You've got 50% completion percentage and two turnovers and more turnover worthy plays. And then you've also got him when it comes, when it comes time to deliver, you got him carrying him down the field. And then he throws what looks like a game time touchdown and he gets dropped in the end zone. He says, "Don't worry. I'll do it again." And then he gets him down there again. And then they get in the end zone. And then they're going to. for two and it's like up, down, up, down, immunity to it all, you've got the flashes and then they're in the end zone and they coach Dave is going for two and then, oh, so can they build on it? There was a lot to hate. There was a lot to like, but like I said, they could have scheduled Wichita Falls High yesterday and they could have won by 70. They scheduled Auburn and they lost close in Auburn's backyard. You're going to play Prairie View this week. You're going to play Louisiana Tech the next week and then you'll get into conference play and I'm telling you if you watch that Baylor team yesterday, you know good and well, that's a team that could lose to Louisiana Tech. That's also a team that could go into Provo and take Brigham Young to the limit. Just depends on what you get in the range of outcomes that is the DJ lagway experience, but I think it's going to be a very up and down unpredictable season for both of these teams, but excited for Alex Goldish, man, good for him and Dave Iran to enter this season with a very, very hot seat. Certainly this doesn't do anything to cool it down, but there is a lot to build on from there if they allow it to happen. It's the best I can do. Other winners and losers, just some things I noticed over the weekend and it really started Thursday night, Friday night, and stuff like that. Boysy nearly beat Oregon. This is a 34 to 27 game and you want to talk about Badlock stats. Badlock stats for those of you who are new, that's the kind of thing where if I were to read you the stat line before the game, you would have been really, really wrong in predicting how the game would have turned out. So in this game, what that sounds like is I walk up to you, knock on the door, you open it Friday, and I say, I'm here to talk to you about Dante Moore. Do you have some time? And you say, sounds weird, but yeah, I'll go for it. And I say, Dante Moore is going to go 28 to 37 for 378 yards, three touchdowns, no picks for Oregon. How do you think they'll do against boysy? You say, that's a three touchdown plus winner. And I do too. I could go a step further. I tell you, they outgain him 497 to 274. You may say, that's a four plus touchdown winner. And I would agree. And then you look at the final score and you're like, what happened? Wow. Well, what happened is boysy's just a really good team. I know some people watch this game where they saw the final score and they're like, uh-oh, uh-oh for Oregon. Maybe, I don't necessarily know like the season will bear that out. I think boysy's just a really good team. I mean, boysy's better, frankly, than some conference opponents. The Oregon's going to face this year. But I will say this about boysy. One of the big lies in college football is a win as a win. It's a lie because this was one of the best outcomes any G 16 had yesterday. And it was a loss. But if you think about how much more difficult it is to go to Eugene and play Oregon to within one score, then it is to win against a much lesser opponent in a non-hostile venue. You either understand that about college football or you don't. And I'm not really wasting time arguing either way. But Oregon, a winner, I don't think boys is a huge loser in this equation quite frankly. I still think they're my pick to go to the playoff. Boysy's got Memphis coming in there in a couple of weeks. Now that one will be fun. Miami on Friday, I don't know what else to say. It was a splattering. I saw what I expected from Darien Mensa. So I am a believer they upgraded a quarterback and going 27 of 30 for over 405 touchdowns, no picks. It makes you feel good about your Heisman ticket. I'll be it in week one. And I'll be it. He's got a guy on his own team in Malachi, Tony, that made up stealing some votes from him. But Tony had 12 for 234 and 3. It's a top five offense. Defensively, I also think it has the ceiling to be a top five top 10 unit. I know if you go back and watch it and you Miami fans watched it. You may have said that line of scrimmage like we're not there yet. No, of course you're not. That was the entire basis of my belief in them. My belief in them was their starting point is so high. They'll be good enough against Stanford, Florida, A&M, Wake Central Michigan. I mean, at Clemson. But let's just put a pause there at 10-3. October 3rd, they go to Clemson. By that point, I think they'll look even better than they do right now. So that was my whole belief system with them. This is not their best. It's just their starting point. They are very good. And that's still my pick to win the national championship. The odds, by the way, in the ACC. Miami minus 195. The next closest are Louisville and SMU at plus 800. They're about to play each other two weeks from now. And the ACC isn't a very precarious position, by the way. Goes, you've got Louisville playing Ole Miss later today. You've got SMU going to Florida state tomorrow. And the outcomes here, after what happened to Clemson last night, it could quickly, turn the ACC into a one-bed league. To me, frankly, it may fall into the lap of Virginia. What about Alabama? So they won 48-10 over East Carolina. A padlock stat here for Alabama. Even against ECU, 227 on the ground in five touchdowns. It's a big deal. If you watched them last year, I don't care if they played air. It's a big deal considering what they couldn't do a season ago. Keel and Russell very, very much showed you why he won this quarterback battle. So when people who have watched them scrimmage or practice have talked about Keel and Russell, they haven't described him as the most polished player that they've ever seen. I'm that person. I've watched them scrimmage multiple times in a closed setting and I've watched Keel and Russell in what differentiates and separates him from Austin Mac. And it's that stuff right there. If you're watching on YouTube, that play right there is a perfect encapsulation. You know what Ryan Grubb calls that play? Nothing. He doesn't have a name for it. It's not a play. It's what's happening after the play breaks down. And what he can do when plays break down is what won him that job. Now he has immense physical skill and he can throw the ball anywhere you need him to throw it. But there is still some rawness to him. There's still some greenness to him. But there are intangibles about him that very other few players possess. That's what won him the job. And then on the other side, that defense looked worlds different. Which is another thing if you've watched him scrimmage or you've listened to people around that program that is expected. So that looked glaringly different. Those two freshmen tail backs. I told you are the best players they have in that room. But that room is one you can be comfortable with now. If you need someone to fall downhill for you, Daniel Hill can do that. AK Deer is still on his way back from injury. But you saw a little glimpse of E. J. Crowell and E. J. Crowell as a special player. And you'll see him along with Tracey on Brown more and more. UCLA pulled it out last night against Cal. How about win in the fourth quarter, 21. Oh, in your debut for Bob Chesney golf club for Bob Chesney. UCLA had 277 and 6 on the ground. And if I have Nico E. Maliyev as my quarterback. And I'm getting that kind of rushing output. Boy, I'm comfortable with my prospects as a team this year. I feel good. They survived 12 penalties on the road in the season opener for 110 yards and still one going away. This was a very tight game for those of you who didn't stay up to watch it. And it doesn't look like it when you wake up in the morning and say, Oh, man, 45, 24 has a blowout. It wasn't until it was in the fourth quarter. What about Tulsa? Oh, by the way, those of you who are tuned in live right now or you're watching the replay, please like the video. Okay, you had time to do that and subscribe to the channel. Welcome in. Welcome back college football. Tulsa really made me angry yesterday. I shouldn't be angry at Tulsa. I should be angry at myself. I believed in Oklahoma State. They were favored by 13 and a half. They lost by 14. And your boy went down with the ship. So it was very disappointing for me. Doubting, doubting Coach Lam out there at Tulsa is not a fun label to wear. They've done them this way two years in a row now. Not good. Minus three turnovers. But this was no fluke. I think he even said that. I didn't listen to his post game presser, but I saw it quoted somewhere. And to be honest, if Coach Lam did not say that this was no fluke in his post game presser, he should have said it, because it was no fluke. Tulsa just whipped him. So I think for Nelly, I saw for Nelly say, uh, can we put it? Can we put the bed, the search for the next Indiana? Because you could tell that was going to happen. Now that Indiana imported a bunch of JMU guys and went to the playoff year one, and then one title year two, oh, we're looking for anybody who's taken a new job and importing a bunch of their guys. That's not as easy as it sounds. So it turns out Oklahoma State is not immediately the next Indiana. Maybe Penn State is Jesse, but it's not going to be Oklahoma State. Maybe you see LA is, but it's not Oklahoma State, but a good on Tulsa. The winner here was Tulsa. The losers here We're Oklahoma State and me and I'm only a loser because Oklahoma State screwed up so So basically, I'm not a loser. And lastly, oh, lastly, but not last, it was kind of the first thing we saw, UMass, the fighting Jenny Delos of UMass, 37 to 21 over Rutgers. I want you to think for a second, especially those of you who are having a bad day, those of you who have something going on in your life that's not up to par. You're a little stressed out about it. Maybe you got a tough day at work coming up tomorrow. I want you to pause, think about how blessed you are. And if you're still having trouble coming up with that answer, I want you to consider. There is someone out there who is a Rutgers booster who rode a six or maybe even a seven figure check for that athletic department this calendar year to watch UMass bend them over in their home building in front of the world and outrush them 200 to 30. And then I want you to consider that your life's not so bad. This was tough. Well, it wasn't tough to watch for me, but I was just checking it out and saying, "Is there something I'm missing here?" And no, this is college football. This is why we actually play the games. Now, unfortunately, that means we have to go down this whole side road any time a G6 team does anything against a P4 team. We have to go down the side road of, well, Cannell comes out of the shrubbery and starts arguing about whether we should or shouldn't have a G6 playoff and devolve so quickly, like I've said some stuff about that in the past, but I don't bother with the debate because no one ever hears what you say and no one ever considers the merits of your points. They hear what you don't say and what I don't say ever is these games shouldn't happen. What I don't say is the G6 doesn't even deserve to play these games cause that would be stupid. So I'll let Cannell walk that plank, not me. I will say this, man, like Rutgers is dog water right now and that wasn't a good look for a big 10 team, but think about how much worse it could have been for the big 10 in general. But if Oregon did lose, Michigan basically did lose everywhere but the scoreboard and Michigan state got pushed by Toledo, it could have been a lot worse. That's all I'm saying. It could have been a lot worse. What movie is that? Jurassic Park, that's Samuel L. Jackson, the Jurassic Park. It could have been Worst John, it could have been a lot worse. So there's some debate in Baton Rouge, like about what the best food is in Baton Rouge. You got your opinion if you live down there. To me, supper club is number one. Here's the problem. We were around the facility all day Friday, and then we went to work out, and we went straight from there to dinner. And the thing you need to know about finding upstanding establishments like the supper club is they don't let you dress like what Mimaw would call a rag-a-muffin, but we forgot. So we walked in, we're in T-shirts, and we didn't even tell them it was the shirts we'd worked out in, Jesse. Nothing makes it worse. And to the immense credit of the staff at the supper club, they come up, they get in our ear, and they say, "Guys, what size shirt are you?" They didn't have to do this, they could have given us the boot. And instead, we gave them our size, we were still too stupid to know why they were asking the shirt sizes, and they went and bought us collared shirts so we could stay in there and meet the house rules. This is, of course, entirely Jesse's fault. But be that as it may, best food I've had in 2026 was at the supper club. I know they're not exactly hurting for business down there, but anything we could do, especially after all you guys did for us. We will. So we appreciate it immensely, unbelievable food. I asked Compton at one point, "Is there anything this place doesn't do good? Is there anything on this menu that's not good?" And the mystery remains, because I haven't found anything, but I got to tell you. So here's what's crazy about it. When you grow up in the jungle, which in media terms is digital media, podcasting, YouTube, this is an unstructured world. But this set, you see, we put this stuff back here. These cameras, we set them up, Bradley's in there, he's punching the show. These graphics, we built them. So like when you come from this world, you do everything. You and your team, if you're fortunate enough to have one, you do everything. And then you step into the world of ESPN, where they wipe your mouth for you. And then some, if you ask them to, and it is hard to get used to. It's hard to get used to, because not since I was a child, have I had that level of total service around you, soup to nuts, A to Z, everything you could ever want is provided to you. And it's really an amazing thing to watch, just like having NASA around you at all times. Nothing is left to chance. Nothing is left unanswered, no string is left untied, no T is left uncrossed, you get the drill. But we're still the kinds of people, for example, that when I'm in a press box somewhere, and I'm walking out, and I see, oh man, there's a water there that hasn't been opened. I'm taking that with me. That's my mentality, because we came from the jungle. So anything and everything, you got to scratch and claw to survive out there in the jungle. And then you get in there. And it's like Amanda Brooks is just offset, waving a giant leaf, fanning you. And her team is running around and we got an entire army of people. So we appreciate it. And then our folks that we took with us, we appreciate it. We'll evolve that show. I immensely appreciate and seek feedback and input because we want to we want to make it the same way it would feel. You guys know what I'm about to say picture Friday afternoon. Maybe you got off work early, but you're just kind of hanging out with your guys and you're waiting for the next day. That that vibes a very laid back vibe is different than Saturday, very laid back vibe. That's kind of what we're trying to strike on that show.
