LSU is absolutely put the Clemson Tigers in a cage early and we could have some football sides to this. I think there's probably a larger conversation coming out of that one. Is that fair? I mean, are you excited to detail the ways that Clemson looks inept against LSU? Are you excited to detail the ways and looks away, you look tiny and slow and outclassed in a game that would otherwise be a measuring stick for your program? I mean, that's not exciting. - Not really. There's better games to talk about. - Yeah, that's awesome. - I'm always excited to talk bad about Clemson. Are you kidding me? - This is a man who has done that extensively. - Yeah, but the reason that we are going a little bit early and the reason why we wanted to capture this moment, the reason why they covered three tailgate is absolutely rocking is because we have to ask whether or not everything played out as it should have at the conclusion of what looked like it was going to be one of the worst season opening losses in Michigan football history since losing to AppState in 2007. The first season opening home loss for Michigan since Jim Harbaugh lost to Kyle Wittingham in 2015. Was there supposed to be one more second on the clock? - No. - Oh, okay. - No. - I haven't seen this. I was watching Clemson on the shoe and thinking of it. - You didn't watch this play? - I saw the replay of the play, but I haven't seen the replay of zeroes on the clock. Zeroes. - Look, Tom was writing like there's a lot of games I got to take notes on. Like I flipped the game off. - So the way that I understand it, the NBC rules analyst popped on and mentioned several times this is our clock. This is the way that our cameras set up and the way that they've gotten everything synced. The zeros were while the ball was in the air on the NBC broadcast when the NBC rules analyst was looking at it. - Yeah. - But you're not going to believe this. There's a lot of Michigan fans that are going to rush to tell you, "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I'm an attorney and I can tell you why." Classic Michigan stuff. We went through this in 2023. - Blown steering dead, y'all. - Apparently the Western Michigan player touching the ball. - Because he was out of bounds. - What, there was zeroes on the clock before the ball came down. - I had an autopsy. - And the official on the NBC even said the Big Ten's going to have some explaining to do after this. And officials usually come to the defense of officials and he was just like, "No, the league's going to have some explaining to do." And it was horse crap. It was terrible. - If I'm a Western Michigan fan and I'm screaming that was rigged, I normally tell people screaming something was rigged that they're just calm down. I 100% believe. I agree with them. - 95% of the Cover 3 tailgate in hundreds and hundreds of votes have voted did Western Michigan get screwed? Yes. Yes. Hey, that's the other thing too. Like, Western Michigan dominated Michigan in this game. - We have. - Michigan did nothing to earn this win. - I mean, they kind of played him to a draw, right? Which is like saying something in of itself. - What? - Yeah. - The Michigan Wolverines? Mr. Big bad cow-winning hand? - That's what I'm saying, right? Like it's embarrassing to be played evenly for 60 minutes, which after seeing this clip, I think they pretty much did, right? You know, like to Western Michigan. - I'm legitimately angry. - For Western Michigan, just like for the-- - Just in general, that's terrible. That was just, they completely robbed a team of a win. For some reason, Michigan got another play. They didn't deserve it. They shouldn't have had it. The game was over. Michigan had lost, they get another shot, and then Michigan wins. So Western Michigan goes through all that, plays an incredible game defensively, completely limits what the Wolverines are doing, puts themselves in a position to win the game. They do everything that their coach told them that they had to do to go on the road and shock the world to start the season, a team that won its conference last year, a team that had everybody come back. Nobody went in the portal. That's a team that won a G5 league and nobody went in the portal. They all came back because they wanted to do it again. They wanted to try to get to the playoff. And then they go on the road, they beat Michigan, and they get screwed over. They get bent over a barrel and screwed. And then they lose the game. It's one of the greatest injustices I have ever seen in college football. - Like fifth down level of like a good go, chapter will be written about it the same way that the fifth down was. - Yes, it was a horrible, horrible decision to put the second back on the clock. And it was a horrible outcome that Michigan was able to win because of it. And then they're storming the field. I mean, that's embarrassing. Thank God I have this Madelo to help call me down. - Wow, I mean, did they give an explanation on the field for why they were putting one second? They just said there's one second on the clock. - Yeah, they said there's one second left on the clock. - We're gonna review it. There's one second left on the clock. Total game. - Then they called whoever the hell they called and that person said you better put a second back on the clock. I know where your family lives. And there was a second back on the clock. - Wow. - Tough scene for the moment. The Michigan Wolverines did not look Michigan's got to play Oklahoma next week. - Yeah, that might be tough. - How many, well, it depends. Like if they get extra downs and they get extra plays and they only need five yards to get a first down instead of 10, it'll be easier for them. We'll have to see what officials are there. I don't know. I don't know which officiating crew was in that game. I don't know what conference they represented. I didn't really have the game, the volume on for most of the game. It was mostly muted. Whoever the hell was officiating that game, that would not be officiating a game next week and probably not any time soon. - A lot of times the road team brings the officials. - The Mac. - Those Mac officials? - Look. - Did they go to Eastern or Central? Hold on. - Is that broadcast show that? - The thing that is- - They're really saying they were big 10 officials. - The thing that is ultimately so disappointing here is that football justice was not served. That if you did not watch this game, you see Michigan 13 to 12. If you say they struggled, okay, that's all right. They moved on. They played like shit all night long. Well, excuse me, first drive, first drive, sure. But then they couldn't get out of their own way. The rest of the way, Bryce Underwood was having problems. They couldn't hurt all about this run game. Western Michigan hadn't bottled up. And then for the Michigan Wolverine's defense to be unable to get off the field for a 13 minute drive when Western Michigan just held the ball. For three and a half, it's like three and a half yards per play on a 13 minute drive. They just kicked you in the shins. - They shrank the game. - For 13 minutes and you couldn't get off the field. I think they will be ranked I'll just go ahead and be a spoiler there But I do think that they are going to find their their stock hit in a major way from the football perspective Tom What are the biggest concerns other than all of it? That you were playing Western Michigan And it was difficult to tell the difference in which team was the big 10 team and ranked in which team was the Mac champion And they didn't look like Would you rather have Davis Warren or Bryce underwood? Michigan looked holy ordinary and I will say like you know they're the defense Cannot be blamed For this because you as you meant they only gave up 3.3 yards for play. Yeah, Michigan only had 221 yards of offense like they were on the field a ton because the offense was doing nothing and Like you look at the situation and again trying to eliminate the crap First game of the year you see these things happen you see bad performances you see disjointed efforts Particularly when it's brand new coaches or brand new coordinator. So there's a new coach coming in. There's a new offensive coordinator Bryce underwood struggled last year and he was struggling again tonight. So you could sit there and say okay maybe As this season goes on they'll be able to iron it out and we'll look back and be like okay That was the worst game they played all year and things will be fine. That is still very much a possibility but What I think will be lost in the way that game ended was just how absolutely ordinary Michigan look they looked like a Seven and five team they did not look like a team that will be competing at the top of the big 10 or for a playoff spot to me That was my primary takeaway before all the crap at the end Yeah, I mean like no no no I mean that one explosive pass obviously would which probably shouldn't have counted right I mean like just They were just bottled up like they weren't getting like tackled behind the line all the time They just that there was no like Imposing their will okay, we have moving at the first level Second levels picked up or out the gate were hitting 30 you know 30 40 hour runs like I think you would expect to see I guess to West from Michigan team like that and you know It's like do credit to West Michigan for for playing them as well as they did but that is concerning like for sure You know for Michigan to like not create any explosives there and You like you look at their havoc rate what's your Michigan at a higher havoc rate than Michigan? Yeah in the big house like that That's I mean not by a ton but by any margin is really I think like really concerning because Oklahoma creates quite a bit of havoc guys so I Maybe they got some other stuff, but I they better find it quick Let me tell you about the beautiful poetry of Michigan football in this moment because we Where we had Bryce Underwood and we were talking to him and we were trying to get him to talk about J. J. Buchanan and he was giggling like a giddy little school boy about J. J. Buchanan letting but not telling us anything like Kyle Wittingham and scared him into saying don't tell these boys anything You know like he's like yeah, yeah, yeah, don't talk about it. Yeah, he's gonna be good. Yeah, he's gonna be good very first offense of play from scrimmage Bumbled snap by Bryce Underwood. He's running for his life. How does this game end a Play that shouldn't have happened a Heave that might be short and who ends up saving the day? Who end up pulling that down? J. J. Yeah, 41 inch vert on that guy Like he's he's a free I It was it game started game stopped with bungled plays that weren't supposed to happen J. J. Buchanan saved Michigan's ass, so oh no no the officials the big 10 officials or excuse me not the big 10 officials You know, we'll check this obviously with our with our stats and research The alleged big 10 officials the officials of the game and Ann Arbor on September the 5th Who decided to review and and the and apparently Apparently have their own little stop clock that said we need a we need an injury time extra second added on to the clock That's what it was you know world cup fever right there's a cooling break. There's a cool He forgot about the cooling break I mean Penn State's got to be worried now like they need Michigan to be like a resume like a resume like a bullet point in a resume guys Oh, that's that's concerning. Oh, I think a Penn State fans have in way too much fun about that. Yeah, a real Penn State fan I think I'd like that they're like You know like just and it keeps going on and on and on. That's just stranger. It was like a really bad can confirm But because that's the thing is like as As as things, you know as Penn State just handles business properly. There were a lot of teams that didn't It's true as a lot as that pit so in your in the tailgate right now go ahead and drop your prediction for Oklahoma Michigan Probably be like 10 to 7 Oklahoma Games in Ann Arbor. Yeah. Oh, we're filling up. We're filling up the chat with zeros zero. Mm-hmm We are new protest. How do we fill up the chat with likes like the video? That's also that's also advantageous. Hey So anything else on Michigan miss Michigan Western Michigan? I mean, I Western played well like they played like I did watch this whole game except for when the clock is zero I turned it off I didn't realize and then I Like kind of concerned about the line of scrimmage for Michigan like not dominating there is is concerning like Some of the past game rhythm stuff. I think you could probably anticipate I I think they will look better for sure But I mean they should lost this thing like they didn't really play well enough to win That's a huge right like against Western You're not alone put a friend of mine. He's a Michigan fan Went to Illinois by the way. There's an Illinois degree your room Michigan fan. Yeah, my my college roommate Yeah, not to out him. I don't think he make it look up those records. He turned the television off and discussed After the first play just because he was pissed he's turned it off and you know left the room and then I texted him I said I used to just see that and he's like what yeah, we lost I was like, oh my god Does he know does he know he did not know wow? Yeah Quite an experience The the pain will will remain only temporary. We'll see what happens next week when Oklahoma comes to town The Sooners I'm guessing are not going to get 18 minutes of breakdown They did the thing that you are supposed to do as a heavy favorite week one as a top team And put put them in a damn body back. That's what happened You know, we'll we'll see what happens keep filling up the tailgate with your predictions for what might be Coming as the Sooners come to town Coming up on the other side another big 10 team One after a scare and now we've got a question if our preseason expectations were a little bit off What to make out of Oregon's close call with Boise and more next Back here on the cover 3 podcast where We had a Yeah, an interesting game taking place in Eugene because Boys the state brought the fight to the ducks A game where first and foremost Oregon got the win, okay, and it was not aided by one extra second It was a fair win. I thought Dante more stepped up when his team asked him to Well, buddy, if we were talking about Oregon like one of the best teams in the country. We've got some knits to pick Got my laundry list. I'm sure you'll have yours. Tom Fernelli. Where would you like to start? Start with the positive Dan you looked fantastic. Your hair looked great. The sunglasses were just money I thought you looked wonderful in all the interviews with Jenny After that your your team did not look nearly as good for the most part. I I was very I mean I think they were able to paper over it like I had to write the a gamer after this one and the best way I could think of to describe how the game went was The talent and the skill were able to help Oregon overcome their actual play like there were moments of greatness that you saw That were able to help them put points for like the decorium more touched out at the end where you basically chute those feuds off the face of the earth and score it. Like Boise didn't have a guy who could do that. Jordan Davis had the long 40 yard run. If you take that away, they only averaged like 3.3 yards per carry in the game. So they were able to hit explosives and get points on the board. And defensively, they did a good enough job of, you know, holding Boise to some field goals and not letting them get touched out, which really gave him the shot to win the game. But just overall, like I thought the offensive line, there were questions obviously with the three new starters early in the game. I thought they were struggling. They got better as the game went along, but they weren't really dominating now. We could find out as the season goes along. Boise State might just have a very good defensive line. That could really help them in the pack calls similar to what we saw with them. This against you in LV back last week. So who knows, maybe that's a possibility. On the other side, the defensive line, we've hyped it up as maybe the best in the country. It didn't look like it today. Like they, they got three sacks and they had five tackles for loss, but they really did not generate a real pass rush until the fourth quarter, when Boise State, they knew Boise had to drop back and pass. They were able to just, you know, pin their ears back and go. That was really when you first started seeing them win consistently. Before that, they weren't. And then on the other end, like in the run game, Boise had no long runs. Their longest run of the game was nine yards, but they weren't really losing yards either. The offensive line was getting pushed. So they were getting like three, four yards of pop, which was allowing them to stay on schedule and allowing them to move the chains on a lot of longer drives. So like Oregon overall, over 60 minutes, they proved that they were more talented. They proved that they were more skilled and they ended up winning the game. I just don't feel like they really played well in any facet outside of a play here and there. And I also think Dante Moore looked pretty shaky at times. Like there was the one mist touched down. He had up the seam and then they went to the trick play with Evan Stewart. I think who was through it or was it too, I can't remember, but that was dropped. Like they had missed opportunities that they could have used to put that game away early and they just did it. And then also you got to mention too, you offensive coordinator, do defensive coordinator, probably played a partner. Yeah, I think you got to give a lot of credit to Boise, like for playing a really good game. I mean, like that, that was the game that they really had to play to have a chance to keep this thing close. You know, it's a 24 point spread and they took it into the fourth quarter. You know, and like you look at this, I think Oregon was better than what Tom said, not like by a ton, but this really came down to Oregon was what, oh, three on, on fourth down and Boise was, Boise was two of three. You know, in a game where you're not getting like 20 positions, like you're getting like barely more than 10, right? Like that, that's a huge swing there. They were both kind of iffy on third down, I agree. Like I thought Dante Moore was like, for the most part, just okay. Boise was playing everything back, right? And like, especially on the outside, they were allowing them to essentially like the, you know, throw the source stuff and they tackled it extremely well up until the point when they didn't and then Decorate Moore shook those guys and he was gone. And I thought it took a little while for Oregon to adjust to some of the stuff that Boise was doing. And eventually they ran him out of some of that stuff and then Oregon was able to kind of exploit some like down the field, you know, in the middle of the field with some of those two I saved the concepts. You know, I, but like you outgain somebody by what two, like 210 yards, it's pretty solid. Like if you line this thing up again, I don't think this game's close. So I think almost everything went and Boise's favor that it could. Like I don't think Oregon looked like a national championship team today, but I think that's probably like Oregon C game and Boise's A plus game. Oh, sure. But here's the thing is Oregon typically is the one who is like not having to explain things away. Yeah. Oregon is the one that's kicking ass and taking names and looking at the other powers and being like, why do you explain a way that ugly Alabama win? Why do you explain a way that ugly Georgia win? Like why we're over here actually taking care of business. It's not often that we find the Oregon ducks being the one who's having to explain a way why we were 13 to 12 against Kentucky, right? I mean, this was, this was a little bit of a, I mean, it was almost an SEC kind of performance from the ducks right here. We're otherwise have been kind of a like leave no doubt kind of team for the last two years under Dan landing. Totally agree. I like, you know, boy, he just kind of kept it kept it short. Like it was, it wasn't like second and five, but it was like second and seven, then it was like third and four, and they just kind of kept converting, you know, as we mentioned with the four down stuff there, they never really hit any explosives, you know, I think the start was huge. I just think them just coming in and just like bringing it to them from the very beginning, letting them know who was who, what was what bad mental errors by that Oregon defense early like, like just not just the off sides, but like the late the penalties. I mean, it's just a lot of stuff just wasn't quite screwed in, not quite. Do you know what I, oh, um, I have time for it, right? Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah. In the, in the post game handshake, I am awful at lip reading, but I'm just going to believe this, but I swear Dan landing told Spencer Danielson, it's what we needed, right? It like he was like doing the like, hey, thank you know, like good. The whisper each other whisper each other and as he's like pivoting, he looks back and I swear he says, it's what we needed. And I'm like, yeah, that's, that sounds like somebody who is thrilled to be taking all this bad tape with a win into, uh, into the week ahead to be able to work on that. Yeah, for sure. And like if Oregon doesn't look more crisp, they're going to have problems eventually, right? Like that, it just looked a little bit out of sync, you know, which was just pointing for, you know, a team that brought back as much as the ducks did. Not say more did still have a career high passing day. Oh, for sure. With it all of this, it's like he did have a bananas passing day in terms of the statistics and the explosives were there, which is so funny, Tom, because my notepad and my, and the stat box do not agree because times when I wrote down a miss for Dante more versus how many yards you can get from the explosive plays. And he didn't even have that many in completions. It's just, it, it's remarkable the way those two things didn't connect in this particular game. Yeah, I'm not worried about them overall long term, but to go back to your point earlier though, but like they were oh of three on four down, but they have like two of them were fourth and one. And that's part of what I'm talking about with their office line. They couldn't convert like they weren't able to push Boise out of the way. Right. I think that's concerning. Uh, yeah, definitely would be for the ducks moving forward, we think that all the, all these issues are correct a bowl. Yes, extremely, they're, they're very talented. Like I, I would expect, you know, they're playing an Oklahoma state team on the road next week that just lost a Tulsa, and probably should have been blown out by Tulsa. Yeah, yeah. If they're, if they look just as kind of next week, I'll start to be more concerned. But again, two years ago, they started off with two stinkers as well, including a near lost Boise state. And then they went 13 and oh, and won the big 10. So yep, totally fair. Um, would you rather keep it big 10 or would you rather go back to another thrilling finish? Because, um, sure, the big 10 would love if we moved on from the leaks. Yeah, I did not have a good weekend. No, they said, all right, let's, let's see. Do you, do you think that becomes, uh, I guess where all UCLA still has Cal tomorrow, Washington, Washington state. Oh, God, I hope that doesn't happen. Well, not just from the position of, you know, the big 10. But big 10, maybe not as shiny as thought, a narrative coming out of week one. I would, I would say the top of the big 10 for the most part was fine, except for Oregon. Like Ohio state had no problems in their game against ball state, Indiana, defensively. I was a, uh, North Texas was moving the ball pretty well. Yeah. All right, cool. Let's sit there. But why, why, why would North Texas do? I know they had some guys out in the second year. They just, they were not like closing space very well. A lot of your communication was kind of crappy. Honestly, like, last year, they would pass guys off extremely well. Like what would, when, when, when a receiver go from one zone to the next, like it was, it was seamless. And today, there were seams for sure. You know, it was, it was not clean. They were an extremely like veteran defense last year. And like, I know there were the jokes and the memes like, oh, they're a bunch of 24 year olds. Like people were, whatever about them in the title game, because of it. But they really did have a lot of guys who had been in that defense for years and had played together for years. It was kind of second nature for many of them. And now they're working in new guys who are in roles that they weren't really used to. And you saw more cracks in the armor than you typically are used to seeing from Indiana. So, so SIG's gonna talk about losing AJ Harris. SIG's gonna talk about the fact that they had to play both of their backup corners for a lot longer than they wanted to. You know, and miss especially in a game on a day where it's just hot and humid everywhere in America, apparently. You know, I'm sure the depth is tested a little, but they also ran the new Texas, ran the ball well too. I mean, look, you allow a 43% success rate to North Texas. That's like a really, really rebuild North Texas that I don't think it's a good team at all. But credit to them. I'm changing that opinion, by the way. I'm not gonna say, yeah, I don't think North Texas is a bad team. We'll see. Yeah, I'm not convinced. Yeah, I think Indiana defensively played like crap. That's fine. I mean, you're, they just, they were not creating negatives. Like, I don't think the D line did anything really special. Like, I saw Nick Mars do something special. I saw Charlie Becker catch it between three defenders on the third and long. Like, Indiana was not offense. But I was saying, Indiana was pulling a rabbit out of a hat in North Texas. Does play defense too. North Texas is going to step into the American, and it's not like they're going to get buried. They've run games suck too. Honestly, I guess the team like North Texas that has to protect those corners. Should we ever have without both their top corners, they might be without their top running back for a while too. Yeah. I mean, 15 for 68 for turbo Richard is, that's really disappointing against North Texas. That's, that's not good. Yeah, it was, I mean, they looked like crap last year against Old Dominion too. So it's, it's, again, it's not one of those situations where it's like panic, panic, panic, but just, I was surprised how kind of not amazing that they looked like. Joshua looked pretty damn good. Yeah, I don't know. I, I think the Joshua, Charlie Becker, Nick Marsh is kind of a, that's, the, that's good enough to carry you and mask over a lot of issues. I mean, a lot of people don't have a Nick Marsh or Charlie Becker in Indiana. It's got two of them. Nick Marsh had that great touchdown catch and then he had only one other catch in the entire game. That's true, but I'm talent wise. Yeah, I just, it's, I mean, and there's also, it should probably, I mean, it was very hot. So maybe that played a role in it, but I don't know. I just, it was hot everywhere today and I saw a team explain better than Indiana. Also, like, how hot was it really in Indiana? Oh, it was hot. It was hot. It was hot as hell. Like 88 or like, no, it was like 100 something on the field. Okay. Yeah. Come here. Come on, come on, bro. Florida, the only place it gets. Yeah, exactly. No, no, but if there's, okay. I, I, I have a little skepticism when we get this Midwest hops, like, you know, Indiana, I mean, do I have to teach you about corn sweat again? The corn literally sweats, bud. That's how hot it gets. Vegetable sweat. I mean, I was up in Maine this summer, like, we have a heat dome when I was like, yeah, it sucks. I wish somebody's brewery's actually had air-conditioning, but like, guys, like, we're not dying out here. Like, like, maybe, we're just like golfing this. Maine is on the Atlantic Ocean. Indiana is in the middle of land. There's no sea to cool it down. It's, it's also been in the heat ex, heat index in the hundreds, like all week. So it's just like the inescapable heat at that point. You just kind of go, it's Indiana. There's nowhere to go. Just in it. Just in it anytime. And again, and again, all of this, all this complaining for a team that did put 56 points on the board and and win. 22 chip. You give us too much credit. Too much credit. I know. I listed Oklahoma at number four Because you're coming off of a terrible year And you're just kind of hoping that everything's gonna be better But what if it comes out and you lose again to Tulsa just like you lost to Tulsa last year like What kind of you know like what does that do and that's exactly what happened like they came out and they scored 10 points And Drew Mastemaker did not look particularly Impressive no part of the team really looked all that impressive and you lost to a Tulsa team that was what foreign eight last year Yeah, it's I mean it can only go up from here, but like an improving Tulsa team for sure like They were one of the teams we thought could you've everything went right when the American You know like when we talk to somebody like this league is even more open than the SEC is Mm-hmm, but still like nobody expected. I did not expect them to lose to Tulsa They lose the left tackle really early in the game. He went off with an aircast and the legs like that that's obviously a dang but I thought their defense would be Really probably suspect you know, I don't know if I love their transfer class on defense But offensive like that was shocking that they were not better than that You're getting whipped up front. I don't think it's just the left tackle Right. Yeah, exactly. I might I might copy and paste that as a two-way adjustment Yeah, you know that was that was all good Tulsa joins the American picture with a very different uh very different outlook and then Oklahoma state you know like I think I was more impressed with Baylor. I think I was more impressed with Tyler. I was more impressed with Colorado. Yeah, I was not more impressed with West Virginia, but like marginally Uh-huh coastal got a quarterback by the way like Coastal when they get to conference play And they don't have just bodies all around a guy because they're no it's a big 12 offensive line versus you know kind of bottom to your sundale offensive line. He can do something. They have some nice receivers in that team. That's going to be a fun watch. Did you see the rich ride handshake? Yes. No, not to bring it up. Yeah. It is weird because in this era, you see a coach going up to that kid like that. And like in 5, 6, 7, whatever, 10 years ago, you'd be like, that was a great game, son. You were fantastic. He didn't have one before. So they just left him on the sideline because he's just been wasting his breath on the field. I thought that was obviously very strong showing. And perhaps the one thing that Rocco looked good and the defense just didn't, didn't give a niche. Carlos Del Rio Wilson was named the offensive preseason player. The year in the sun belt and couldn't get anything done at all. So. Yeah, that was, that was sketch. Houston, two thing, like they had bad turnover luck for sure. They also allowed like 400 something yards to Oregon State and like couldn't get stops. And that was a little concerning. Six point game midway through the fourth quarter. I thought, or my notes were that Houston played well, but they could never put Oregon state away. And so the fact that they couldn't put Oregon state away is a monitoring to a situation because Oregon State would you mark a shepherd taking over was such a huge just kind of upheaval reboot that I just don't have anything. I know clue what to expect. So either Houston's not a top 25 team or Oregon state's going to make things interesting in the pack 12. Who's the greatest college football offense of all time? I had a hard time thinking like knowing how bad Narduzi just terrorizes bad quarterbacks and since Miami Ohio starter was out, like is it back up really going to do anything to them? One got sideways. Yeah. He's good. Yeah. Yeah. We'll be a lot of fun. That makes pit a very live dog at the ACC. Oh God, yeah. Like Narduzi with a lead. Mm hmm. Wait. We usually don't see that when teams win, but there was so much like compact between those top seven that I do think there's a legitimate argument to be made that, yeah, that's very possible because Ohio State blew out, you know, fall state, Georgia blew out. Whoever they beaten by like six, I can't remember who they played at this point. Notre Dame, we have to wait and see. Texas looked really good. Indiana, we talked earlier in the show, it's not outstanding, but they still want it comfortably. And Miami just absolutely whipped Stanford on Friday night. So yeah, no, I wouldn't be shocked at all if Oregon drops a spot or two. I think that's a good call. But fair. I mean, look, I usually defer to chip on this. I do think the fact that there were like seven teams like so tightly clustered. We also, we got to see what Notre Dame looks like against Wisconsin tomorrow night, right? Georgia and Texas, neither of them getting first place votes was such a storyline. And these rankings were released almost a month ago. I wondered if AP voters, the 14 of them who had Oregon number one, I'm sure a couple of them will remain steadfast and say, Hey, they're win. I'm not going to bump them from the number one spot. But if you had any idea of a debate in your mind, I just don't know if there's any way you look at those top seven teams and say that is still the one that I believe is the number one team in the country. The loss of those first place votes, plus people who might have had them too that drop them to three or three and then drop them to four. I think that's where you start to get that churn again. I'll put a cap on how far they fall because they did win the game. But Georgia didn't get any first place votes. Texas didn't get any first place votes. Both of those SEC teams were dominant in victory. So I do think that Oregon will be moving down. How about this next projection? But I would not be surprised again, judging by the very small margins between teams. If we see number 13, Alabama end up maybe as high as 11, maybe knocking on the door right there behind Oklahoma, just off the backs of this. If you looked at the way that Alabama was viewed and the way that Alabama was considered, they had questions about quarterback. They had questions about the run game. They had a lot of questions seems like they were answered in this win, at least to it from a voters perspective, certainly. So I could see Alabama may be jumping ahead. Ole Miss still has to play. So that would change the ordering and we made note of that as such. But do you think that Crimson Tide did enough to be able to answer some of the doubters? Yeah, I mean, I think they should be like just based off of one game, right? It should be a good one. ahead of Texas Tech and Texas say an M for sure. Right? Like those two teams did not look amazing at all against like bad competition. So yeah, I think that's fair. That range is fascinating. Like I don't want to jump ahead of you on questions. Do you have an LSU question? Where does LSU land? Yeah. Like do they do they crack the top seven? No. Because like Miami's offense looked awesome. They're I would say their pass rush given how many offensive linemen Stanford had out was a little bit disappointing to me. Nine o'clock kick off on a Friday night to an AP voter. That fine. Yeah, man. Everything you needed. I was looking for more from Wilson. The big trench they got from Missouri, man. Like I that's kind of that big like the huge question about that team is, you know, how do you replace the pass rush? They had some guys look good, but like I thought they were going to look better given the personnel that Stanford did not have in the ball game. But they probably didn't do enough to look like to drop. Is LSU go to eight? I think LSU is I think LSU is threatening the eight nine spot. And we've got to get an omit. We still have Ole Miss left play at nine, which is going to be sort of like a big, you know, a big way that that could change. Yeah, I was going to say if Ole Miss loses, they're definitely jumping in. It's just it's a question of how far they will because I don't think Oklahoma is going to get punished much for dominating you tap. And I don't think Texas A&M will get punished much. But if Ole Miss loses definitely, but I do believe that just based on this being the big game of the weekend, released on Saturday with a lot of people watching it, LSU is it's going to be in the top 10. It's the question of who will they pass to get there. I mean, the real shame here is all the media members that don't get to make their dinner reservations tonight in Baton Rouge. A side by side view of the play and the game clock using a direct shot of the game clock in the stadium was used to determine the final ruling 85 minutes prior to the game. All broadcast cameras used for the replay system, including the camera on the game clock are synced using a strobe system to ensure all cameras are aligned per NCAA rule four dash two dash three dash a quote a ball not in player control other than a kick that scores a field goal is out of bounds when it touches the ground a player a game official or anything else that is out of bound or is on or outside the boundary line and thus the clock is stopped. Okay, so apparently the Michigan attorneys were aware of this unique so wrinkle which I think is the Miami Virginia Tech from two years ago? Yeah, so yeah, from a friend explaining this who I I think would know, um, but I don't know, but this like if they didn't rig it, right, then this is basically how it works. They have like an accurate decimal system, whereas the TV clock is just showing like full seconds, right? If there's any time remaining on the decimal thing, it's a second, right? If you actually go and you you look at it, it doesn't round up round down when we're talking about the clock. Well, like the TV clock doesn't, right? So it's pretty clearly it's under nine seconds if you decimal it out. The issue on the stadium clock is no decimals goes from nine to eight instantly on hike, right when it hits eight, it's eight point nine, nine, instant it hits zero, it's zero point nine nine. You get a pair of freshmen receivers both going for more than 100 with Trent Mosley and Caden Dixon Wyatt. The first freshman duo with 100 plus receiving yards each in a game in the last six seasons. Uh, we didn't have to question the culture of the backups. I don't know if you're familiar, but sometimes I always am concerned when the third stringers let in the touchdowns, maybe an indication of culture. I also feel slightly better about their, like, even though they're up 35 to three against San Jose, San Jose did have like two successful drives just kind of ended, you know, like ended fairly deep in USC territory. San Jose offense, like weaver's a pretty good player, you know, for that level, like that's going to happen occasionally, I guess. Like they were so physical on Thursday night. Like that would, or whatever night that was. Like that was wild, man. Like that they, they just overwhelmed what I think is a pretty decent Fresno team. You know, and that was, that was for like Kaden Dixon, why it obviously mostly goes over 100 again. I would just, they're good. Hank Brown may have won the Iowa job. What did the score end up being there? It gets Northern Illinois boarding enough and he looked much better. Yeah, they look, he looked much better than I mean, yeah, they ran all over like Murray Bolton had 183 yards and 11 carries. But, uh, better get ready for a world in which Iowa has a wide receiver. Any strong takeaways right now from either one of you? Um, no, a couple like watching this live. I wanted to see like how the defense was going to play. Like they, they played like they were angry. And that was maybe that's the most champ thing shining through. Like the offensive line was, was pretty physical. Like it, they, they look good. I mean, they, they have so much skill. Can I, um, can I recall something that you may have seen during either fall camp or this week of practice? I think it was fall camp actually because there's about two weeks ago. Colin Simmons was talking about how he feels like he's really improved his run defense and a reporter asked a good follow up question that was, well, how do you think that's happened? And Colin Simmons says, and I'm going to edit this. He said, um, I think I just stopped giving a duck, except he didn't say duck. And he said, and then he said it to the reporter. And I think that's actually run defense. You know, you just kind of have to stop giving a duck. And like if you've got a whole team of five star athletes that felt like maybe they were given too many ducks. And now they're going to stop giving ducks. And they're just going to charge in there and play angry and play nasty. That's kind of how you do the, the last little piece of being able to turn the switch and turn a very talented roster into one that competes for championships. So, um, Machine Biles, great addition, thought he was very, very good as well. It'll be a lot of fun to watch Texas, certainly a piece of the national championship conversation at every single turn. I got Miami. Texas A&M. Didn't watch it. I can't tell you anything about it. What's the weird amount? Because it kind of got on the one of the quad casts. I was going to say you texted it was that, well, no, I don't want to take your, I don't want to stomp on your take. But final score to match up with the observation. Because I didn't get eyes on that one. I added it when it was, I saw a mishackle lead to a Texas Tech touchdown. And then Evelyn Christian scored their first touchdown at the game, like that, like 26 to 33, 33 to 10 kind of area. But I didn't, I didn't feel like I was ready to grade Will Hammond yet. I need to get a full, full look on it. And it is Evelyn Christian too. Gotcha. The one text Danny sent about it was not encouraging. That's what I was thinking. Yeah. All right, we got, um, I did not get to see Utah, Utah Idaho. There's no need to watch that. Um, the brass goes speaking of things that weren't encouraging. They got their act together, but big 10 just struggle. I mean, again, like we talked earlier, outside of the teams at the top of the league, not including Oregon, the big 10 just did not have the most impressive weekend. I mean, Northwestern struggled with South Dakota state. Yeah. Yeah. Um, Colorado Georgia Tech. Yeah. That's, that's depressing if you're a Georgia Tech fan on so many levels. You're like, damn, like we needed that game to go to a bowl. No, you're like, damn, we had that game and we blew it so many times. I mean, is the late clock management issue a weird reversal of the Miami game, the kneeling, like they were the benefactor of Mario Cristobal, not kneeling, and then the clock management was so horrendous and the decision-making didn't work either. I mean, all of it compounded. Colorado's running the ball down their throat. Yeah. Like Colorado was pretty clear couldn't throw and tech still couldn't do anything about Colorado running the ball. Or Georgia Tech couldn't run the ball against Colorado's defensive front. Okay. I don't think this is the case, but a lot of people on Twitter were like, was Brent Key, you know, just a Haynes King buster-flocked immersion. Time will tell. Yeah. There were a meaner comments made along those same lines. But oh, we're a family show, Chip. I don't know. We don't make, we support James Franklin does it support their troops. Just it just absolutely. - Absolutely, just disrespectful to the military institute. - He was like, "What the F's a key debt? The Faulkner could play calling, Fylo operates, it's just fine. Kinda don't think that was a competition at quarterback, but it could be wrong. - My big headline here is Jaden Baugh. Like not only was he productive with the numbers, 160 yards and three touchdowns, but the runs themselves were the, "Oh, Heaven's Debits it, the boy can scoot." I mean, he's just like the stop, the start, the explosion. I mean, it's just, it's all there. Just because you've got the talent, just 'cause you did it on tape once, doesn't mean it's always gonna show up. That boy is, he's ready for week one. I mean, he's ready to go. So, that's so exciting. - We have a statement from the Mac. - Oh my goodness, they're suing, they're suing, they're suing. - Oh, no, this is the Midwest for you. Official statement from Mid-American Conference Commissioner Dr. John Steinbrecker upon the conclusion of the Western Michigan Michigan football game, the Mid-American Conference in Western Michigan contacted the Big Ten Office to seek clarification regarding the replay review and the placement of time back on the game clock. The Big Ten explained that the ball touched a player who was out of bounds before the clock reached zero, resulting in one additional play being awarded. The Big Ten subsequently provided video in audio of the replay, which confirmed the explanation provided to us. I commend Western Michigan for an outstanding effort and I well played game and I offer my congratulations to Michigan. I also appreciate the collaborative efforts of the Big Ten Office and its proper response in reviewing the play and providing the requested clarification. They, I thought Cole for FIU, like, we'll monitor this when it comes time for conference play, but he actually can make like the wide, like the wide side of the field throw. Stokes at one point, luckily he was so down and so sacked that he couldn't get the ball out, but he was like trying to throw the ball like, as he's basically horizontal like in the middle of the box. - I'm sorry, I was told to chuck it.
