We watched Trump mess up the vibes at Knicks-Spurs Game 3: Behind the scenes of New York’s most important sports day in decades at the NBA Finals

The hosts reflect on their behind-the-scenes coverage of the NBA Finals, attending both San Antonio and Madison Square Garden. They emphasize the deep emotional and cultural significance of the New York Knicks’ long championship drought, describing the fan energy as profoundly nostalgic and cathartic—reminiscent of historic moments like the Red Sox’s 2004 win. The experience was dramatically disrupted by Donald Trump’s unexpected appearance at the game, which led to chaotic security measures, long lines, and a hostile atmosphere that undermined the celebratory mood. Despite the disruption, the hosts note the resilience of the Knicks, particularly Jalen Brunson’s intense focus and the team’s ability to remain composed under pressure. They also critique the extreme ticket prices, highlighting a major accessibility issue in modern sports. The episode blends personal emotion with broader cultural commentary, linking sports success to national hopes—especially with the Knicks’ performance echoing political sentiment around Kamala Harris and a desire for change. While the hosts are hopeful that the Knicks will win Game 4 and claim the title, they remain cautious, acknowledging the Spurs’ strength and the emotional volatility of the series. The experience underscores both the magic of live sports and the challenges of politics and inequality in modern fan culture. A vlog will follow, though audio issues may reflect the chaotic, tense atmosphere of the games. The hosts thank the NBA for the opportunity and reaffirm their gratitude to fans who support the show.

Testing testing. Hey, hey, we're back. Wow. Hey, it's nice to be here. It's nice to be back. It's a pleasure just to sit down. Amen. Who's that? You're think my my step-gramp. I believe said that. I believe yes I think I say that now more than any other phrase. Unbelievable phrase. Well, let's see Hi, Charlotte. Hello, Madeline. We're back with another episode of the Sports Gossip Show presented by eBay Lot. Oh my goodness. We are back from San Antonio and Madison Square Garden. There's a lot to discuss. We were at Nick Spurs game one and three and the thing that we couldn't tell you that we were doing was the NBA's first ever podcast row where there were nine shows that were in the arena the day before game one and we were one of them and that was pretty cool. It was pretty special. So huge thank you to the entire team of the NBA for thinking of us putting it on. Yeah, and all of our incredible guests. We really had great interviews. Yeah, and if you haven't heard them go back and listen the last two episodes were devoted to that. Yeah. And yeah, it's sort of crazy. I feel like we haven't been in this setting. No. In years. We haven't. It's been like a week and a half, which is years feels like it's like dog years, but pod years, pod years, the pod father. Someone's made that someone's made that joke for a little bit of housekeeping. As a reminder, we have merch that you can purchase for the Sports Gossip Show. I'm wearing our lovely crest merch t-shirt. Charlotte has built a beautiful makeshift pillow out of one of our lovely t-shirts that has our hand drawn sign out that is currently getting a little tune up. Yeah, our signs getting a little facelift, little facelift, but but not. No, it's not. It's getting a new, it's getting a new outfit. It's getting a new. Yeah, because we're not doing anything to its core or its sole or its own. It's just getting a new outfit and some clothes on. Yeah. So you can purchase merch at the link below. It's also linked on our Instagram @SportsGossip and TikTok @SportsGossipShow so you can find it there as well. We've been tagged in some merch purchases. So thank you so much, shareholders, for furthering your shareholder value. Yeah, look, I gotta say it is not lost on us. It's not a small thing that any of you spend any time with us, let alone two hours a week. We are eternally grateful, but then to spend your hard-earned money on something that we've made that you can wear to show people you spend time with us, just it really is above and beyond. I know. We're very grateful. It's really great. We are very grateful. All right. Okay, let's start in San Antonio. This is going to be like a behind-the-scenes episode. I personally, I mean, the two of us are obsessed with like behind-the-scenes stuff and infrastructure. So we're going to give you a little bit of the infrastructure of covering NBA Finals. Yes. Let alone the biggest NBA Finals in a generation. In very recent memory going back a while. In long-term memory. Yes, we went to San Antonio for Game 1, obviously did podcast row there. Say no hotel. I won't name a hotel because they might be going back there. But who will say that the hotel Charlotte? Madeline, the entire ESPN broadcast team. All of them. Which is funny because when you travel for covering a sporting event, it becomes, especially because I've been in sports media for a while, I and now we know a lot of people in sports media. And it feels like a mix of a traveling circus mixed with the high school reunions. Yes. And then you see everybody at the same games and you're and it's just like, it's kind of this cozy, weird messed up family. Yes. Yes. And to be a part of it, it really does feel like when you see something they're like, oh, hey, how what like it's really warming. I can't, you know, it is very warming. How has it been for you? Well, it's been amazing. No, no, no, no, it's been amazing. It's nice to see the same faces. It does kind of remind me of college or something. Yeah. Like you're all living in a dorm, even if you're not all staying in the same hotel. Right. But that you're seeing the same faces over and over again, it feels like you're running into people after class. Yeah. Cause there's a routine. Yes. Press conferences and you're like, oh, Fred, and you develop bits like, yeah, we have a bit now with a Zack Low of the Zack Low show where every time we see each other, he'll be like, there's trouble and we're like, okay, relax, Zack. And that's just nice. It's nice. It's nice. It's nice. It's what you do with pals. Pals, workouts. Yes. I hope that we were saying that the entire ESPN broadcaster team was there. And it was funny because it would just be like jump scare. And I mean this in a complimentary way. You'd, the elevator doors would open and you're like, well, there's Charles Barkley or whoever, it's just, it was really funny. Yeah. We saw Charles, we hung out with Charles Barkley at the bar for a little bit. We invited him on the show. He promised he would come on the show. So Chuck, if you're listening, if you're listening, we are going to follow up with your people. We will. Our people call your, you didn't give us a contact, but we're going to find them. Nope. We also, we walked back from CVS with Tim Legler, one of the main broadcasters for his band, the little hot girl walk. Yeah. And then we saw Charles Barkley doing his hot girl walk. Which that was, I think the end of his hot girl walk that was going viral where he was lifting chairs on the river walk. Yeah, he was doing a little exercise using the same grade t-shirt. Yeah, he was, he was. So, you know, it was just a, and everyone was, it's validating to have this show that we started ourselves in the place where, you know, it's like the most established people and network. And for everyone to be really kind and accepting, that was really, it was, it was really, it's pretty cool. It was pretty cool. But yeah, the, the, the, while this one for me was, you know, coming down in the elevator for breakfast and the doors open and Ernie Johnson, who's the host of Inside the NBA is in a sweatsuit with a coffee and a hat. And he was right there, like at the elevator. And in those moments, you forget that you don't, like I, we do know a fair amount of the broadcasters. Sure. But I've never met Ernie Johnson. Right. And I forgot that. And so I was like, oh, there's my friend from television. And I was just out. And I think I said, oh, hello. And he was like, hello. And then I kept walking. I was like, oh, he doesn't know me. It's just a while. He's like, who is this lady? He's like, well, hello. It's like, it's very nice. Yeah. Very nice. No, I, it really, it was special. And it, it felt nice to be accepted by this community of flesh. Yeah. Really? What was your first finals? So we, we did podcast row and then we went to the game. Yes. We went to the game. What was your first impression of doing a finals game behind the scenes as media? I mean, I loved it. Yeah. I mean, that's like my entire life as I love the behind the scenes. I love just watching the logistics of people with headsets running around, running around. And then you just like spot a celebrity. You're like, oh, there's Ben Stiller or whoever, you know, that, that to me is my, it, I think it lived up to my expectations and exceeded them. I think in the sense of just how many different people were just in front of your face at all times, it would be like a legendary broadcaster of celebrity. And then like a woman with a clipboard walking really fast. And you're like, everyone has a purpose, every, each one of those people stereotypes has a purpose and they're here to work. And everyone's just like, what's going on? Who are people talking to? No, it's great. Sign me up. It's, I'm so glad. I'm so glad. It's always been like the most special thing to me, to get to go where people, where most people can't go. Yeah. And hopefully you watch our vlogs and there will be one from Game 3 of the next, which we're, we're getting to get to that. But yeah, I mean, it's also the, the amount of players, former players, like the Nick's and Alan Houston, Patrick Ewing, Walcott, Frazier, like all of these guys had trapped. We were in, we were in every elevator with Alan Houston. Yes. From the 1990s. We really were. If you got, if we got in an elevator, Alan Houston was there. And last night, leaving MSG, once again, Alan Houston was like leaving the gate because of leaving at the same time, not an elevator, but leaving at the same time. Yes. Yeah. Okay. Let's talk about the vibes of Game 1 briefly. Great. I think you and I had a moment when we were, we didn't talk about this. I think during our podcast, where I was at about the press conferences for this verse. No, we didn't. Did we talk about it? We, yeah, we talked about the vibes. Oh, we did. Yeah, yeah. Ignore me. Well, I'll just repeat it. Yeah, yeah. So that watching this first press conferences, they, they had some, um, almost scary vibes in terms of how relaxed they were and felt very cohesive. But I did say like it could feel almost like a little codependent because like, maybe they're too close, you know what I mean, which can cause problems. But, but I do think watching the game last night, which we will talk about, I'm now like, oh, I'm a little worried. Do you think they're scary again? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think every game, so far in the series, not to talk about the, on the court action, but what we're going to for a second here, because it's relevant. And we also do a lot. So whatever, um, every game has been very close. Yes, there have been lead changes. They've been the last two games were decided in the last couple minutes, um, last seconds in game two. Yeah. Um, I also, I think that both teams are playing with the desperation because it hasn't necessarily been the best basketball. No, in terms of how everybody's playing, but it's been the best basketball in terms of the tension is so high, you can tell that they're giving it their 150%. Yeah. And so that in, and that, that's a joy to watch. It's also unbelievably stressful. Yeah. If you have a rooting interest. Yes. I think that one of the coolest things though, has been not from a stadium, which was after game two, when we went with our husbands down to Smith Street in Brooklyn to see just this joyful party in the street where it seemed like the streets were closed off, but they weren't. It was just people in the crowd and every time a car went by, like a police car went by with just its lights on, a car went by someone out of the roof screaming next in four, a garbage truck went by and everyone did the like honk signal. And it was like watch it. It was like if adults were toddlers with like municipal vehicle obsessions. Yes, and it was, I was going like this with a truck. Just the joy and it kind of reminds you, it's like, that's who this is for. Yes, that's who it's for. That's who it's for and you can feel it. I mean, you feel it in New York. Obviously, we're not, we don't live in San Antonio. So I don't know if vibes are the same there in the streets. I mean, it's more sprawling. So just logistically challenge there. There's more space between house infrastructure. Infrastructurally, it's a little bit different. But I do think, yeah, what I think having gone to the game and then also watching games, not in the arena. I'm like, this is for the, this is for the fans who are watching the games in the street and it being projected on the, yeah, on the side of a building. Yeah, that's who this is for. Yeah. And that and those good vibes. It's like, yeah, as I said, the spurs may have codependent vibes and they seem really relaxed. But the nicks, they have the entire city of New York behind them. And that is a very strong vibe. That vibe is heart, yeah. And I think to being at these games, being at game one and game three, seeing the players, I mean, I said this to you last night as we were watching. I was like, oh my God, these are like just, these are guys, these are just people. They're just people. And when you look at these people, where when you are up close in an environment, when you have access to these people, you're like, oh wow, these are really talented basketball players. And then you zoom all the way out to seeing them projected on screens on buildings. Yeah. These are the most known people in New York City, maybe America right now. Like just the, because the nicks are such a huge deal and such a huge city, you've never seen this before. Not that I can think of. No, it's crazy. No, which is also why it's like hard to almost even comprehend or the quantify the vibes because it's never happened before. And maybe won't happen ever again in our lifetimes. I also have this thing. I'm working on, I'm writing something again, folks. Heck yeah. I wrote something last year about sports dynacies. And I came up with this thing called the fandom romance index. We're on the, which is the X and which is the Y axis? What do you mean? Like is up and down X, X is a cross. X is a cross and Y is up and down. Okay, so on the Y axis, it is, on the Y axis, here it is. Yeah, I had it. Okay, so on the Y axis, so the up and down it's degree of romance. Yeah. So the car is on a one. It's time without a championship. And it's a Belker. It's an exponential graph of degree of romance as more time goes on without a championship. I would 100% agree with that. And it's something that because the nicks are so, have been so bad for so long, it takes so much pain to build up to this kind of joy when they're good. Yeah. And even if they don't win the championship, having gotten here and had this, if they do win the championship, this will never happen again. This level of intensity of feeling of catharsis. If they don't win it, then you can still have that high fan of romance index. But it resets once you win. It does. And even though it's been really painful to get here, this is the sweetest, but this is the best thing in the world. And this is, I actually think in some ways, to your point, this is maybe the best possible feeling and in some ways is almost better than winning the championship. I'm just saying. Do you know what I mean? For the city, it's like because it's like, it's similar. It's like every, the water is boiling in New York everywhere and everyone's bubbling. Yeah. And it's like, yes, once it went, of course, it'll be unbelievable. Not saying it's not going to be unbelievable, but there is something you can feel it. It's palpable in New York. You walked on the street. Everyone's wearing nicks here. There is nicks signage in boutiques. I've never seen a sign in before, not even for a sale, you know? It's like there is something in the water here, in the east server in the Hudson. And it's in Guadalajara's canal, even, which there's other stuff in there, but there is good vibes in there for the next. I think even despite all the pollution, but there is, yes, I agree. I think there's, there's something to be said for like, what it feels like right now. Yes, right now. Not winning the championship. It's like, yes, I'll be unbelievable. That's just like, hooray, they won. It's a release, but there's something about right now where the water's boiling and it hasn't boiled over yet. It's so special. I also think that you as a Georgia fan, where there's the 40-year drought before championship. And me as a Red Sox fan in 2004, where there's an 86-year drought, the not to make this about me or Boston. I'm really not trying to do this. It's just like the feeling, like when the Red Sox won in 2004, I, what it was, it is still one of the greatest moments in my life. I was in high school. We didn't have homework for three weeks. We skipped school to go to the parade. Nobody cared. I sobbed with my parents when the Red Sox won. It was the city, the whole city, it's buzzing. Like, I've chills even talking about it 'cause it was so special. And to get to be just a spectator even. - Yeah. - On this ride and feel something like that again. I don't know if you feel that way with the Georgia. - Oh, I feel the exact same way. Watching these nicks, I feel like, where I remember exactly where it was when I watched Georgia finally win a national championship. Like, I feel the same way I did, but I think what's different is for football. It's like, it's one game. You know, well, it's a couple games leading up to the championship, but it's like, this has been what? For it'll be 40, I mean, potentially could be 21. I mean, who knows how many games it's gonna be? That it's like, it's even more stressful. And I feel it just in my soul, in my gut, I said to Charlotte before we watch game two. Was it game two? - Yeah. - That I said, I feel like how I felt right before I walked down the aisle and got married. Like, it's the same feeling. It's like anticipation, all this planning preparation. And you're like ready for it, but then you're also not 'cause you're like, I don't want to do that. Not, I don't want to do this as an I want to get married, but I don't want to like, the spectacle, you know? It's like a lot of feelings. I wanted to get married in a record. It's the best analogy because you're like, okay, we have to do this. - Yes. - And on the other side of this is like, the thing that I've always wanted. - Right, but can you like through this? You're like, oh no, my God, this is-- - You're like, this is the most stressful moment. - Yes. - It's like, it is both the most fun thing in the world and the worst thing in the world to watch your team in a championship when they haven't won for a long time. - And that's what being a sports fan is. - And that's it, baby. - And that's a sports fan. - Well, should we talk about game three? - Yeah, let's talk about, yes. So this was, when we were at game one in San Antonio, we looked at each other and we said, the garden is gonna be something we've never even imagined. And I think part of that was thinking about the watch parties outside MSG, the energy, the joy of going on the subway with everybody, like the swell of just like goodwill in New York. And we didn't get that. We got it in the building and I think that everybody who went to the game, I still hope that this was as magical an experience as you wanted it to be and you paid so much money to be there. And I hope that that was still possible. But Donald Trump, the president of the United States, decided to just ruin everybody's good time and show up. And we're gonna take you behind the scenes because I think it is hard to fathom the degree of how much I really want to swear it. Like just how he just mucked everything up completely. - He really did. - He really ruined the vibes. - He really, he really did. I'm sorry, he did. And James Dolen, who is the owner of the NICS, he invited Donald Trump. It's worth noting, I think, Madeline, that James Dolen got married at Mar-a-Lago, which is Donald Trump's private look club down in Florida in 2002. His son, Charlie, Charles got married at Mar-a-Lago in 2017. Dolen has given half a million dollars about to Trump's various campaigns. And he invited him. He invited Donald Trump. Donald Trump used to go to the garden all the time when he was just like a reality star from New York. - Yeah. - And it was the most massive disruption of a major city in its best moment to the point where like, - Yeah, I think we should start with literally the infrastructure going to the game. - Because we do love talking about infrastructure, so let's start with that. So Charlotte and I get off the subway. And the NYPD had released street closures before, and it was basically every street around Madison. They called it the Madison Square Garden. I feel like the exclusion zone or something like that. - It was literally, it was like North Korea. It was like the demilitarized zone. It was like the demilitarized zone, the quite literally demilitarized zone. So we get there, and Charlotte and I got there so early because we had to get there extra early because of the additional security given a city and president was gonna be attending the game. And they had barricades already set up all along. I guess this would have been on 6th Avenue, where we exited. And to enter the area, the exclusion zone, you had to go through what looked like they were setting up again. We got there so early that we didn't have to go through them yet. But Metal Detector, or maybe it was facial recognition. I think it was some sort of like Metal Detector things that they have, they have them at place, those stand, those gray things, whatever they are. I don't know, to even enter the area. So you can imagine, when we were there, there was already a fair amount of people, but it was not as crazy as when it was getting closer to the game. - No, and for context, usually media entry four games opens up three hours, before. Yeah. This time it opened up four hours before. And when we got there, four and a half hours before, there was already a massive line of media people to get in. Yes. And this is mind you in the hot sun. Yes. It wasn't cold out. And this is standing for over an hour to get in. And there were people like that, that it infuriated us because you see like there were people who had disabilities or were had crutches or were older who were just like clearly struggling because you can't stand that longer being the sun that long. And it just infuriated it makes your blood boil because it's exactly what Trump has done to this country. Yeah. Which is also like if if if if it felt this infuriating to watch him hurt people on on less of an intense level, imagine like you get your family ripped apart because of this guy. I know. Your your whole life is like he has done so many horrible things and implemented so many horrible policies. And he's so selfish that it almost felt like Trump and James don't win. We're like, let's just mess with people because we can because we can because he's the president and their billionaires. Yeah. And it was just such a microcosm of like what this country is now that it made you I mean, everybody was pissed. Everyone was pissed. And I want to reiterate to this wasn't just like an issue for me. This was for every person as it got closer to the game. They had to go through these checkpoints and were funneled into these lines that were no there was no clear communication. There were it did not look like there was anyone really directing anyone. No. And so it's like if it was bad for us, the media who got there again, we got there four and a half hours really. Imagine what it was like for fans. And we heard from fans. Yeah. We know people who went and it was and and they were just like funneled into these masses of people blocks away. Yeah. Blocks away people were cutting in line. There were no barricades. There was no rhyme or reason. A barricade got moved. People started stampeding towards it. They finally got it. And this is like there were older people there too. It's yeah. It's just like taking also James Dolen who has just run this team through the ringer for the past 30 years is is just it doesn't care about other people or his players. Charles Oakley, the legendary Nick still won't go to the garden because James Dolen had him banned and forcefully taken out and won't apologize. Like there are so many things you can say about this guy. But for that to this was this is would have been such a win for him. It would have been such a one. And instead he was like how can I take the best thing that happened in my team in this city in a long time and just disrupt it and make it feel bad. Yeah. It just felt bad. It was like spiritually there was a bad aura over MSG. I was going to throw it out from like I need like to hear from a healer or something because I'm like the energy was just it was just bad vibes. It's like the fans were into the game. I'm not talking about that. But just energetically it him Trump being there was it could not have disrupted the vibes more. I think I agree. And I think to like James Dolen, the owner of the Knicks who's very litigious is constantly in fights with Lee the league sues people is always the dissenting vote and things that should be a unanimous vote. There have been sexual harassment charges brought against him. Like there's a lot of stuff going on with this guy as an owner. And it feels like he is Trump. If Trump had been allowed to buy the bills. Where it's like instead of running a country into the ground, Trump could have just like messed up the bills and like sure. Sorry to bills fans. It's already kind of messed up. Like, you know, it's okay. Sorry, Madeline. It's all right. But like, but but it and so seeing them up there together where, you know, it was basically like Trump his whole life had just wanted a police escort to MSG. Yeah. And we were looking out the window of a press room on the side of MSG on 8th Ave where they had blocked it off completely with like massive, um, military barricades. Yeah. Barricades, police, secret service. And then they had blocked off fans, fans and presumably, I don't know how many, but I would imagine at least some of them were trying to get to the game. And they could not cross the street to get to the game. So I don't know if they were being told that they'd be able to cross it a minute. We don't know that they were all waiting because Trump's motorcade was coming for like over an hour. Yeah, because they kept going back and forth because he landed at Wall Street at that helipad. Yeah. And then the thing that really that got me was a motorcade pulls up and we're like, like I mean, like a mini motorcade. Yeah. We're like, well, it can't be him. But I was like, there's JD Vance of Vice President here. Jared Kushner, who is Trump's son in law, who is from a very wealthy New York family. It was a motorcade for an SUV with two people in it as far as we could tell, two people go into the game. Jared Kushner and his son who's a child. Yeah. And they got out of that vehicle and they walked down an empty corridor as if they were the queen. Yeah. And it's like, oh, you got this. It's just corruption. Yeah. How much did it cost for us to send Jared Kushner to a next game? So much money. So much money. I don't even want to know how much money that cost. So someone knows, you know, tell us in good news. We were down on the court before the game. Yes. Just one of the coolest things. You know, being as fortunate as we said this requires a lot of compartmentalization. Yeah. You got to, you got to put different things in your head at different times. You got to remember, it can be for the fans and it can also be messed up at the same time, but it still can be a joyous, wonderful thing. This is a real exercise in that. Yeah. We saw Spike Lee was down on the court early, wearing his Pope Leo jersey, which I loved. I loved, I didn't even realize that's what it said until later, but I loved that. And then Ben Stiller, he's filming something. Alan, what was he doing? Well, he had his iPhone again, filming horizontal, but then he had what looked like two camera people with him. And he was instructing them to film like with big, big red camera. So I don't know, are the next film in a documentary? What's going on there? Because sign me up. And I hope it ends with them winning the championship because I've got a really good ending to the documentary. It will be amazing. They were like 35 millimeter. It looked like it felt like I think it was, no, it was definitely a film. Yeah. One of them was, I think one of them was a film camera and Ben's like, you know, we're dealing. Yeah. There's, there's nothing like it. It's almost like the calm before the storm. It's the arenas fairly empty. They're running through like, you know, the run through the laser light, the laser, the, whatever, the beam things they were doing, the Hamilton performance, I joke this time, I go, it's still haven't seen Hamilton, but I saw the Skylar sisters perform. Great city in the world. Work, work. So I thought, so now I've seen Hamilton. Thank you. Thank you, James Dolan. You've never let me see Hamilton. Thank you, James. I've now seen Hamilton. No, but watching multiple things happening at once. It's really, again, my favorite behind the scenes thing is like, they're prepping the broadcast. You see like Mike Brin off to the side, talking to whoever. And then you see like a couple players start trickling out to do some warm ups. And then you see Spike Lee there. Then you see Ben Stiller, Philman, Nehorizonel. It's like all these different little mini environments and mini scenes happening at the same time is just really a special thing to witness. It's so true. It's like little mini diorama. Yes. Little vignettes. And I think too, like the Nix are New York, you know, so seeing the Nix sign on the court, being there, knowing how much this means to the whole city, it is unbelievably special. It's so special. And I just, I've always said that covering a big game feels like you're at the center of the universe, but covering it in the biggest city where people are this obsessive about it felt like it was the center of the universe. And then you toss the president into the mix and this amount of secret service. And you're like, okay, well, this feels like one of the most watched places in the world right now. Yes. Yes. It was. So it, you know, it's just, it's fun too, because you're backstage and like you're seen on these people go by and then, you know, you see Tim Frank had a PR for the NBA. And you're like, Kate Tim is like, you know, I don't know. You feel like you're a part of something. It's great. Well, you're part of history. You sure are. So the game itself also, we haven't said this prices were insane. Oh, they were crazy for this game. Really wild. There was a ESPN had a thing where in 1999, you could get into the finals for $50. And now a nosebleed seat was yesterday or the day before was $5,458. I'm going to do real quick. That's true. That really should be, it should be illegal. I mean, I'm sorry, but why ticket master? You guys, the fact that there is no cap or no regulation on ticket prices and reselling is actually insane. When you go to a sporting event in Europe, I remember the ticket was, I think, 20 pounds more. Someone could correct me for like, there was no real up, up sell from what I recall. Inflation calculator. Well, if in 1999, you purchased an item for $50 in 2026, that would be $99.95. So it should be that. But instead, it's like 5,000%. And I think that from what I understand, I don't exactly know what happened with the tickets, but I do know that they did do. The next did a fan ticket sale the day before. But I, I believe they only released like a thousand tickets to reverse. It was not that many tickets. Yeah. And it's just such an easy thing to not. No, it's like, what are we doing? Not doing that. So yeah, the tickets were absurdly expensive, which is also way, it's interesting because it's like the vibes amongst the next fans in the area were good. Good vibes, I would say. But it's like ultimately the product of this game was for everyone else who were not watching in the arena because most people obviously can't afford to go to the game, right? And there's only so many seats and so many tickets that are being sold. And it's for everyone else and that the vibes outside of the arena were so good. But then like, but then also like quite literally right outside the arena. There were no vibes because they couldn't be there. So there was no watch party. So you couldn't get like the the feedback from the people outside the crowd. You know, I don't know. Yeah. And the people outside the people at the watch parties have been going to MSG to be close to it, even if they can't be inside. And they took even that away. Um, I do think that the I'll be very interested to see what came for us like. Yeah. Also because because if you if you paid a lot of money to go to game three, I said this already, but I really hope it was special. I think it was the arena was insane. It was so loud. Donald Trump got booed, which was awesome when they showed him. He has to fell asleep. It looked like he fell asleep. Someone someone posted a photo and they're like, it looks like he's asleep. So. So buddy, what are we doing? Take a nap at home in front of the TV. Take a cheaper nap at home. Trump's the one who said, well, if you can't afford you can just watch on TV. Just like watch on TV. I don't know. Game four will be very interesting. We will be there. Yeah. Um, but I think in terms of the Knicks vibes, what I will say, yes, they lost. Yeah. It was a close game. It felt to me like the Knicks were the Knicks and the fans in the building were doing everything they could to be like, we are not going to let this guy in the situation screw up what we've got going on, which is a very hard thing to do when it sort of permeates things, but they were just like, nope. And the Knicks were up. They were known. They they put up an amazing fight. They didn't crumble. It wasn't like all the vibes were lost. So they lost it. They got vibes back. Yeah. Um, and I think that there is like a Jalen Brunson, especially it's like, it seems like he he is white knuckle in this thing. Yes. But I mean that complimenter. Yeah. No, no, it's like he is there is something inside his his soul so deep inside of him that is like, I have to win. I must win. There is no other possible option for him. Right. Is to win, which is I think part of the reason why he's like show no emotion or externally. He's show no emotion. I'm sure he's feeling a lot of emotions internally, but that it's a he's like this, this is like you have it's like if you were, I don't know, we're training for a marathon. And in the 25th mile, you sir, your legs were crammed. You're like, I can do this, but you're like, I must finish. Yeah, you're like, I don't I will crawl across the finish line. It doesn't matter. I will finish. I'm getting my medal 1000% in. It's a, you know, they've been playing as a team still. They've really good communication. So I don't know, game four feels like the next corner, I have to win one. Oh, I got to be honest. I think that this, this is a must win game. Not to sound like a sports podcast, but I guess we are a sports podcast. I got to be honest. Of course, not all I want is the next one. I love the next. I want them to win so badly, but if they do not win this game, I don't think they're winning the championship. I'm sorry. I just, I think spiritually, I don't think it's going to happen. And maybe that's a Georgia fan in me. Yeah. But I think they have to win this game. Even though, yeah, sure, then the series is tied to two, but I think energetically, they, they have to win this game. They have to. We got to get someone to sage the garden. Yes. Do you know what's funny? What? In maybe 2018, maybe it was, maybe it was later, I don't know, when, when Kyrie Irving, he'd played for the Celtics. He'd no longer played for the Celtics. He came back to the TD Garden in Boston and he saged before a game. He went around saging the building, saging the court, which was a really elite troll move because it's like, okay, buddy, come on. But I kind of get it. I get it. I get it. I kind of get it. No, I get it. I get it. I something they, if they have to win, they have to win. He got at least saged like the box. Saged the box and like, I don't know where the players are sitting on their seats or something. Yeah. They, they, I, I think it just, I don't know what it is in my gut. I just, they have to win. They have to win a Wednesday. So Nick, if you're listening, Matt Hilton says you got to win. The Hilton says you have to win. I just, I don't, I, I just, I don't see a path. Even though yes, they're quite literally is one. And sports animals will be like, well, vibes wise. I don't think there is one. If they lose, if they lose, I don't think there is one. You know, it pains me to say, but I'm trying to be objective. At this point, I don't know. I'm like, it's anything goes. And, and the Spurs are a very, very good team. What will be interesting is the vibes Victor Wimbanyama. Oh, yeah. Very tall Frenchman. Yeah. He, he was in Grammarcy Park. Grammarcy can tell people what Grammarcy Park is. Grammarcy Park is a park that you can only access with a key. You have to be a resident or be friends with a resident who lives on Grammarcy Park to be able to enter it. To enter the Grammarcy Park, you have to enter with a key and to exit. You have to enter with a key or exit with a key. Sneak in. You can, well, you can't help. You'll get locked in. You'll be locked in. So I want to know who is front, who is Victor friends with, who lives on Grammarcy Park? I saw someone. That's what I want to know. Who is the trader who gave this man a key? Who gave him a key? Who gave him a key? But he was sitting there. There's a, there's a found. I believe it's a fountain. There's a statue in the middle of it. And Victor was sitting there sketching the statue. I have to say, you know, I do on some level, someone who I just kind of feel like sometimes I understand Wembe. Yeah. And I think, and I think something that's been very interesting of the vibes of this whole situation is how easily New Yorkers have come to hate him. Like my husband, who's the biggest next fan I've ever met. And I'm married to and I live with he, he before when they were playing the Thunder, we were both like, oh, Wembe's, Wembe's incredible. Yeah. And now my husband is like, he is enemy number one. Well, he said some gifts that foul calls in his favor. And that's the thing he's been playing. He keeps like twist and nicks, guys, nicks around. I know. And before Jaylin bruts it on the ground. Yeah, part of you is like, Wembe, I'm not sure I knew you had that in you. I know. He's got that dog in him. But you know, I do understand too, like drawing a statue. Yes, I get, no, I get it. Well, here's my question for you, Charlotte. Yeah. Do you think Wembe somehow got wind that we had people on our show draw their prediction for the NBA MVP finals MVP on podcast row. You saw that and he saw Gary Baton's drawing of him. And he said, watch me cook. So here's what I would like to know. Wembe, show us the drawing. Maybe you were inspired by us do a little drawing in your own arena. Perhaps he said in the press conference that it was pretty good. I would like to see it. Show us the drawing. Show us the drawing. You coward. Show us the drawing, Wembe. You know, you know, I would say that he was inspired by us. But I think that if he actually had been inspired by us by Gary, Peyton drawing Wembe. Yes. He would have drawn Gary Peyton. All I really want is for Victor Weminyama to draw Gary Peyton. Oh my God. That would be an unbelievable conclusion. And if you guys don't know what we're talking about, go watch our episode where we interviewed Gary Peyton. And he drew Victor Wembe and Yala for us. Yes. He still have that. Yeah. Have him. Oh, we got to get him. He signed it. Oh, yeah. No, I have him. They're a precious cargo. Yeah. It's really, really good. They're still on the clipboard. It's really good. They're straight. So you can get him frames that they're not crinkled. Okay. So I have a question for you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Having gone to the game, obviously spurs one. Again, I think it's critical that the next one game for at home. They just have to. They have to in my soul. They have to. They have to. How do you think I guess game four is going to go and the rest of the series based on where we are right now? I don't know. I think. Oh, I can't. I'm thinking. I want to say that the nicks are going to I want to say the nicks are going to win game four. Yeah. But I feel like if I'm listening to my gut. Yeah. Sorry, I'm really just in tune. I'm just I'm I'm going somewhere deep into my soul. Go deep. Charles dig a deep. And I just this is proof we think on this. No, do we do. I think the nicks are going to do it. Okay. All right. And I can't tell if that's because I want to and I actually think the spurs are going to win, but I'm saying I think that no, I think that the nicks are going to do it because of what I do think about this next team. They had one 13 games in a row. Yeah. I think sometimes when you snap that streak. Yeah. You can come back and they keep saying in all of their press conference every player says it's zero zero. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think that Jalen Brunson has managed to will this team to where they are. And Carl Anthony Towns, they're very different types of leaders. Yes. I think that they despite everything that James told us to the team despite the level of pressure despite all of this, they have stage so calm that I do think this is they're going to rally and be like, nope, we're not falling into this trap again. And I think they're going to do it. Yeah. I do think that there is something I agree with your point that snapping the the win streak was maybe a good thing. And it could potentially have reset some entered the energetic timeline for the next because I do think it's like everyone watching the game. You're like, no, they lost the win streak. It's like, well, I guess really, it doesn't really matter because statistically, they were going to lose a game at some point. Like it's it would be crazy if they had swept obviously. Yeah. Like that would have been historic, but also insane and nearly impossible. So I do think that there is something energetic about them losing that maybe that could actually help them just kind of like kick him into high gear and get it across the finish line. Yeah. I just think it really deter whoever wins game four, I think is one in the championship. No pressure. That's what I'm saying. I don't know. I think I feel you on it. I don't know, I don't know. - This is the toughest vibe space prediction yet. - It's really tough. Of course I want the nigs to win more than anything, but I don't know. I think I still stand by my, what I said at podcast row, I think the spurs aren't going to win, and I'm sorry, I don't want it. I don't want it if I'm just being objective though. - Well, at least the spurs are a bunch of cuties. - They are really sweet. - They're a bunch of little, they're a bunch of really talented young men. - We'll see. - Just, it's almost like maybe I just have a blockage in my mind that I can't, I don't want to even picture the nicks winning. Do you know what I'm saying? - Yeah, it feels so impossible. And so wild that it's, I can't even let my mind picture it. So my mind, my little evil devil shoulder, guy on my shoulder is like, "That spurs aren't going to win." - Well, it's expectation management. - Yeah. - I just think whatever happens in game four will determine this years. - Because here's what I'll say too. Again, not to be a sports podcast. But I think what we are neglecting to mention, neglecting to mention, yes. Is that game two? The nicks barely won that game. That's, it's not like, that's I think the thing we need to talk about more than anything, more than the outcome of the game last night is that they barely won game two. This series could, the spurs could be up right now to one. They, the nicks won because when he missed a shot and made a dumb turnover where he threw the ball into Stefan Castle's back. - Exactly. And that's the game two. We aren't talking about that enough, I think. - And that's the way the cookie goes. And yes, of course, it was unbelievable. I loved watching the game and I'm so glad the next one that game. But we're not talking about that. I think it'll be real. If the nicks can reset the vibes after that, after game three, this will be one of the historic resets of all time. - It will be, it will be the great reset. - The great reset. - It's a great reset of American needs. - Oh my God. - Have you thought about that? - Oh my God. I love the nicks reset after that. - Yeah. - Can the Democrats take the house in the Senate? My call. - Maybe. - Maybe. - Can I say something? - And I can't take credit for this. - I can't take credit for this. But I was talking about this last night. And I do think that there is an element where the nicks almost feel like when the Democrats put Kamala up and said a Joe Biden and we're like, "This is gonna work." Do you know what I'm saying? - Yeah. - And all of America was like, "Yes, we, yes. This will work. This will defeat Donald Trump. Yes, the nicks are winning. Yes, they will beat the spurs. Yes. But then when you really look at it, you're like, "Are they?" - You know what I'm saying. - Yeah. - Are the nicks kind of Kamala Harris? - Here's my question now. - Trust me, I want Kamala to win. - And I, and I, where I think the nicks can still do it. - Are you? - Am I being, am I being C.C. Poida? Yes, we can, hopeful. Or am I being head in the sand? - Yeah, Kamala is gonna do it than I before the election. And then crawling into bed, listening to classical music as the election insurance company. - No, I think the day, I want to believe, I really want to believe for New York State. - The nicks are Obama-O-A. - Yes. (laughing) Yes. - Not Kamala. - That's it. That's what I want to believe. And that's what I'm gonna choose to believe because I want this for New York. - Yes. - Because I, I, I, same. - And I'm not saying that that means, I'm gonna just keep my head in this. - Okay, okay. - All right. - 'Cause I'm, I'm gonna see how that goes. - I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna be pessimistic. - Okay. - Even though, again, I want the next thing. - Every podcast. - So badly. - Every podcast. - Podcast need to balance and force. - I want the nicks to win more than anything, but it's like, I'll believe it when I see it. That's how I feel. - Yeah. - That's how I feel. I'll believe it when I see it. For now, they're still Kamala to me, I think. - All right. Okay, so they're my Obama, they're your Kamala, we'll see where we knit up. - We'll see. - One of us, here's the thing about this, is one of us will be right and one of us will be wrong. - And you know what else? - And we will, someone will win. I wanna make it clear. The spurs are not Trump in this situation. - No, no, no, no. - Like my analogy doesn't work quite. It's more about the nicks than it's about the first. - It's not about the spurs. - No, no, no, no. - It's about a box at something like, he shouldn't have cut or he, you know, he, you know, he, - Yes. - Really inconvenience everybody. Wendy has been outspoken against Trump, he's the only, one of the few male players who said anything about ice being horrific. - Yeah. - I do, OGN and OB did have an amazing answer though on the nicks when they, people were like, the president's gonna be there, is it gonna affect anything he's in? The president's gonna be here and we're gonna play basketball. And I was like, well, that's an amazing. - Great answer. - That was a great PR answer. - So no one has really, and I think that that's been really smart on both, on, on, either teams, part, but, you know, I, I hope that everybody who couldn't get home last night or whose commute was disrupted or couldn't go to your favorite bar or whose business last money because of this, I hope that game four is just one of the greatest nights of your life. I hope it's an unbelievable redemption. - And I hope that if you were at the game, it was still an incredible experience, which I'm pretty sure it was. - Yeah. - If you're a spurs fan, now you have, I mean, look, it, it's better, better for the league that it's a, you know, a sweep. - Yes. - People don't know. - No, it's better for, that's the thing. It's better for the league if it's more interesting. And certainly, these games have been interesting. - Yeah. - So I, I think we are in for a treat on Wednesday. I just hope it's in the next favor, I think it's crucial. - On that note, we are going to have an episode that comes out Friday this week. We're going to record it Thursday after game four. We're going to talk about the next, obviously, we will have been there, but we're also going to talk about other stuff. - Yeah. - I know this has been a very basketball heavy two weeks, but it's because we have had really cool access and opportunities, we also really love basketball, but we know the Stanley Cup finals going on. - And the World Cup. - And the World Cup. - And, well, the World Cup, right? Shoot. - That starts. - Damn it. It's, this, can I, this has been a hard time to be as much as I guess that doesn't focus on one sport. - There's a lot, there's a lot going on. I have not had a, I mean, I've had a couple of full night sleep, full nights of sleep. - Not many. - But I'm, Charlotte knows I'm on the verge, I got like a head cold going. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - But it's like the Jordan Flu game, you just keep going. - You just keep going. Neither of us have really slept, but that's the job and it's, and pressure is appropriate. - Yes. - Pressure is, rare, rare. - It's top, top, top. - It's Tom Hiddleston. - That's a lot. - But I, I will say, I watch game three of the Stanley Cup final, where it went to double over time in the night's one. We have, there's some weird college bedding stuff going on, Kaitlyn Clark, a lot of Kaitlyn Clark stuff going on. - There's a lot to get. - We know that there's a lot to get done. We're going to talk about it, but thank you for coming on this journey with us and coming to these games, and obviously we're going to keep covering it. - But yeah, it's, what a time. - Yeah, and I just want to reiterate again, thank you so much to the NBA for, as I said, this on my Instagram post, but given us a seat at the table. - Yeah. - It really was a big deal, and we are so grateful. - We're so grateful. - And grateful to everyone who listened and comments and shares our social content, reviews us. Like, it really all makes a really huge difference to make the show what it is, and we'll have a vlog coming. - Yes. - Which turns out, the audio on almost every single one of the clips is not working, which spiritually makes sense for the vibes that were occurring during game period MSG. Maybe the Secret Service, like, - They blocked it. - Maybe. - Maybe they zapped or something. - So we're going to do a little fun voiceover, so the vlog's a little different. That's why. We'll mention it in there, but you're will. - Yeah. - Well, as always, please rate and review, like and subscribe. It makes a huge, huge difference. Summary:

FAQs

The NBA's first-ever podcast row took place at Madison Square Garden before Game 1 of the Finals. It featured nine shows in the arena, with the Sports Gossip Show being one of them.

The hosts met and interacted with ESPN broadcasters like Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Tim Legler. They also witnessed Charles Barkley doing a viral 'hot girl walk' in the arena.

Donald Trump's unexpected appearance disrupted the positive atmosphere, causing frustration among fans and media. Security measures were heightened, and fans faced long lines and blocked access, which many felt was disrespectful to the event's spirit.

The hosts noted a deep emotional connection between the Knicks fans and the team, especially given the long championship drought. The energy in New York was described as highly passionate and communal, with fans expressing joy and anticipation despite the pressure.

Ticket prices were extremely high—up to $5,458 for a nosebleed seat—due to lack of regulation and reselling. This sparked criticism, especially because it limited access for fans and created disparity in who could attend the games.

The hosts believed the Knicks showed resilience by maintaining their composure despite pressure. Players like Jalen Brunson were seen as driven and focused, with the team's energy suggesting they were ready to fight through the series.
