Walt Disney. Do you like Mickey Mouse? What about Donald Duck? If you do, then you have Walt Disney to think. He was the creator of these two animated characters. Additionally, he was responsible for building Disneyland. So how did Walt Disney dream up these imaginary characters? He used his creativity. From an early age, Walt Disney was remarkably creative. As a young boy, he often created watercolors and drew pictures. And then, as a young adult, he cartooned for his school newspaper. In fact, his dream was to become a newspaper cartoonist. At 16, however, he decided to put his dream on hold and join the American Red Cross in Europe during World War I. While Walt Disney was technically too young to fight in the war, he participated in the war effort by driving ambulances in France and Germany. Soon after Walt Disney returned to America at the war's close, he met his future artistic partner, UB IWORKS. The two artists opened a small studio where they created short animated films. After a few years, Disney and IWORKS came up with Mickey Mouse, a character that launched their careers. Following the success of Steamboat Willie, a short animated film starring Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney began to create characters to accompany Mickey, such as Mini Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck.
