Vaping is a Poor Substitute for Connection and Stimulation
23m 58s
In this episode of The Hypnotist, Adam Cox presents a hypnosis session for a client who has made progress toward becoming a non-smoker and non-vaper but still uses nicotine-free vapes. The session addresses the underlying trigger of boredom, framing vaping as a synthetic substitute for real stimulation and connection. Using the metaphor of a river with stepping stones, the client is guided to complete their journey to the other bank—a new identity free from vaping. The hypnosis employs direct suggestions to diminish the appeal of vaping by associating it with inferiority and to replace it with engagement in fulfilling activities like learning, creativity, and social interaction. Cox emphasizes that the craving is not for the substance itself but for stimulation, and the session redirects that energy toward meaningful pursuits. The client is encouraged to embark on a personal "quest" for authentic experiences, ultimately leading to liberation from the habit. The transcript includes the full hypnosis induction and suggestions, with a caution that the recording is not suitable for driving, epilepsy, or severe mental health conditions.

This podcast features powerful hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery. This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or severe mental health issues. So, get yourself comfortable and enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist. Alright, Adam here. And in today's episode of The Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session created for a client that had successfully got halfway to an identity of being a non-smoker and a non-vapor. So they had successfully reached a point where they were no longer having heated almost kind of like, almost like a substitute, not quite vaping but not quite cigarettes. So the kind of heat activated cigarettes, the smoke-free cigarettes. So they'd moved away from that and they'd also moved away from nicotine vaping, but they were continuing to vape without nicotine, which if you look at it objectively is a sizable step forward. The analogy that I use in this hypnosis session is that there is a river bank with stepping stones. And one side of the river bank represents being a smoker or a vapor. And the other side of the river bank represents being a non-smoker or non-vapor. And there are a couple of stepping stones across that river. So they're kind of in no man's land at this particular point, but they're making progress towards the identity of not being a smoker or being a vapor. And what was evident from speaking with the client is that the key trigger for them wasn't when they were active being sporty or interacting with lots of stimulation and things to keep them busy. So when they were feeling bored or they had nothing to do, which tells me that it's a substitute for connection or stimulation in those moments. So what you're going to hear in this particular hypnosis session is creating the new belief system that actually vaping is simply a poor quality synthetic substitute for stimulation. And of course smoking, if you think of what nicotine is at a kind of classification level, is a stimulant. So therefore, if for many people, it stimulates them and gives them that feeling of doing something. Obviously it has a link to the dopamine reward system in the brain as well. So there's a feeling of being rewarded or feeling deserving. In this hypnosis session, you're going to hear lots of suggestions to the idea that as they create new meaning that comes from fulfilling, stimulating activities and real connections with real people, then the desire to have a poor quality substitute diminishes. And you can think about this. I think I used the analogy in this hypnosis session that if you had the ability to eat real food, okay. And there was some synthetic, almost like laboratory-based version of food. Given the choice between real food and synthetic food, nobody would have synthetic food. But if you're on a space station, you know, rotating around the earth and there was no real food and you can only have synthetic food, then you would tolerate the substitute. You would never voluntarily go back to the substitute if you can have the real food. And that's really what you're going to listen to in this hypnosis session. And for many people, the thing that they're addicted to is not the thing itself, but a vehicle for what the thing reminds them of or creates. So for a lot of smokers, they started when they were a teenager and it made them feel rebellious or defiant or cool or giving them access to a different status or group. In this client's case, it wasn't the case that it was that element of status because mainly she was doing it secretly. It was more that it was a form of stimulation or way to kind of kill the boredom when she had nothing else to do. And that's why this hypnosis session is designed the way that it is. If you're listening to this, it may be useful if also smoking or vaping is a form of stimulation for you, but equally be aware that it was created for someone else. So if you feel like you would benefit from a more bespoke session with me, there will be a link in the show notes. However, this session might be helpful for you. So find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed, relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in a resourceful feeling of relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow any feelings of stress, worry or tension to feel like it's leaving your body in your outward breath. On the next inward breath in, again, breathe in that resourceful feeling of relaxation and as you exhale, if they aren't already, then just allow your eyelids to close. And as they close, notice that you can give more of your attention to the sound of my voice. I want you to notice where any tension feels like it might be in your neck, your shoulders, your jaw, your forehead. And as you breathe in, I want you to tense those muscles even more. And cleanse your teeth, make an expression with your forehead, really cleanse the muscles in your shoulders so that they can't be any more tense. But as you exhale, allow all of that tension and more to feel like it's being released. That's it. Let go. And as you breathe out, notice. There's a feeling of relaxation in your forehead or an arise, your jaw, your neck, your shoulders, enabling you to feel deeper and deeper relaxed. I want you to imagine you're walking down a staircase, doesn't have to be an extravagant staircase, it could just be stairs that you're used to seeing, perhaps every day. Imagine you're at the top of a staircase and you're looking down. And as I count down from 10 to 1, you will imagine slowly walking down the staircase, not releasing tension and feeling deeper and deeper relaxed with each descending number. 10. Taking that first step, feeling deeper relaxed around your face. 9. Just releasing any tension around your jaw. 8. Another step down the staircase. Be seated tension around your neck and your shoulder. That's it. 8. And then 7. Just feel that relaxation spreading all the way down your arms into your fingers. Your arms are feeling light. Limp and loose. That's it. Feeling so relaxed. 7. Then goes to 6. Even your hands feel relaxed as you breathe in 5. Your lungs relax. Feeling in becomes more and more effortless. That's it for the rest of your internal organs start to relax. Heart, stomach, diaphragm, that's it. Deeper and deeper relaxed. Take another step down the staircase. 3. Feeling like your gut is releasing any anxiety. 2. Your leg starter. Really feel like you're letting go of any tension. That's it. 2. And then 1. All the way down to your toes. And then imagine getting to the bottom of that staircase. Except it's not a real staircase. It's an imaginary staircase. Inside your imagination. Representing. You going deeper down to a lower level. A level in your mind where changes can take place. And I want you to accept the suggestion. you have a need for stimulation.
The kind of stimulation that is a cure and antidote to border more wasted time. But you have a desire and need for real stimulation. But in the absence of something real, we as humans will accept substitutes. If you were in space, in a space station, orbiting Earth, and there was no real food, there was only protein powder and pills. You may not want to eat. That synthetic, processed, representation of food. But you will do it if real food isn't around. And I want you to accept this suggestion that smoking or vaping is a stimulant. But it's a synthetic stimulant. It's a substitute for real stimulation. Not desirable. If real stimulation is present. I want you to think of the last time you had a desire for this synthetic stimulant. Maybe there was a voice inside your head that said, "House of Time." Just a couple. Just a few seconds on that vape. But as you hold that thought and imagine doing that thing, I want you to imagine shrinking the entire thought down to a tiny dot. And then within that dot, creating a huge, large, life-size image of imagining yourself like you're someone else, doing something meaningful and authentically stimulating, pursuing a hobby, a passion, something genuinely interesting that sparks enthusiasm within you. And each and every time you try and think of the idea of vaping, the thought disappears to a dot and then is replaced by a giant movie of you observing yourself, engaged in real genuine, stimulating activities. I want you to imagine wherever you are in your imagination. It's a fireman's pole that goes down to a deeper level. I want you to imagine holding onto that pole and just sliding down to a level deeper, deeper into your unconscious mind. And I will give you a series of direct suggestions to a part of your subconscious mind that currently has a desire to vape. I want that part that every now and then has a desire to vape to be the part that's listening to my words right now. That part will accept suggestions that enable a feeling of falseness, a feeling of dissonance, a feeling of disappointment to be replaced with a feeling of personal pride and excitement. You are already two stepping stones across a river you've already left the bank, but not quite on the other side. These suggestions will help you to take the remaining steps. Your stepping stones to get you to the other side of the river, where a new identity awaits. From this point onwards, you realise that vaping is just a poor substitute for the genuine stimulation and fulfillment that could be achieved through learning, connecting and creating. Each and every time you resist the urge to vape, you will feel a sense of empowerment and satisfaction, knowing that you are choosing a path of genuine stimulation. As you let go of vaping, your mind becomes open to new opportunities for growth, learning and personal development. A quest has started. A quest defined that thing that will offer unlimited opportunities for connection and stimulation and the quest itself is the stimulation that becomes so much more appealing than vaping. And the more you engage in activities that ignite your custody, the custody of responsibility to yourself and your future self, to the role of who you represent the people that look up to you most, the more you ignite curiosity and passion, and the more you do that, the less appealing vaping becomes, because the stimulation is being met in real ways. You recognise that true fulfillment comes from connecting with others on a deep and meaningful level, the desire to vape as a poor substitute for genuine human interaction or even connection with yourself. Your creative abilities flourish as you redirect your energy and focus towards genuine expression, problem solving and innovative thinking. Vaping to you would be like crutches to someone that has an injured leg. There's a feeling that is necessary until that feeling just disappears, because it is no longer necessary. With each passing day your desire to vape diminishes, as you rediscover the joy of engaging in activities that provide real mental and emotional stimulation. There is no limit to what you can learn, no ceiling on the knowledge it's possible to accumulate, and as you engage in learning new skills you experience a sense of accomplishment and growth that far surpasses the temporary satisfaction offered by the occasional vape. Your mind becomes sharper and more focused as you channel your energy towards. Creating and intellectually stimulating pursuits. You start to think of vaping as inferior, a poor quality substitute for real connection and real stimulation. You'll find pleasure in exploring new hobbies, interest and passions, realising that they offer a richer and more fulfilling experience than vaping ever could. You'll never reach the end of your life and look back and wished you could have vaped more, but you might look back on your life and wish that you pursued dreams and ambitions. What new things to learn do, and then it occurs to you, vaping is that substitute, a synthetic poor quality substitute to distract you, to numb you, to get in the way of giving you what you really need. When you feel any craving or so ever, each deep breath you take serves as a reminder of your commitment to your wellbeing and your decision to leave vaping behind, and in doing so you can channel that energy into pursuing more meaningful stimulating activities. There is a reason that you don't think of vaping when you exercise, because you are locked into meaningful stimulating engaging activities.
And the same will apply when you're exercising your mind and your emotions. You won't even think of vaping because it simply isn't appealing enough. Your self-awareness is growing. As you recognize that vaping is a temporary escape from reality and the true fulfillment comes from making the choice to live an authentic and purposeful life. And a day will come where the times when you would normally vape you haven't and you realize that you're just one step away from the other side of the river bank. A place where you are free. That the external perception of you matches up with the internal perception of you. And at that point you will celebrate the freedom and liberation that comes from letting you go vaping, smoking. All of that is just something that you used to do in your past. And when you step into that new identity on the other side of the river, not only are you free, but you are able to harness that desire for stimulation in a more profound and meaningful and enjoyable way. The part that used to crave vaping now accepts that it wasn't vaping or smoking you craved it was stimulation and connection you craved. The quicker your quest reveals a viable long-term alternative that gives you more connection and more stimulation. And at that point you are on the other side of the river bank and vaping is just a distant memory of your past. Take a deep breath in through your nose and now through your nose imagine you're climbing up a fireman's pole onto a level higher. Then imagine you're walking up a flight of stairs feeling more aware. Then feel like you're returning to the present as you wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes completely returning to this point in time. And very soon I will count from one to ten to awaken you, you will awaken, determine to embark on a quest. The quest will start that whenever you feel the desire to vape you will channel that energy to pursuing that thing that will stimulate become interesting much more than vaping ever would starting to count. One two three waking up, four five six, more alert, seven eight, open your eyes, open your eyes, nine ten, wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
