Team USA made a stunning comeback at the President’s Cup, overcoming a significant deficit to win a major international team event. Jackson Coivin’s dominant performance, including a crucial final-day finish, was a standout moment. The U.S. outperformed the internationals in stroke play, recording more birdies and fewer bogeys, underscoring a clear performance gap. Despite the win, key failures in team strategy—particularly under Captain Steve Snedeker—raised concerns about leadership and decision-making. The match highlights included intense, tactical play on par threes, where players like Tom Kim and Justin Thomas delivered strong, composed performances. However, the U.S. team’s lack of strategic depth and failure to capitalize on home-field advantages suggested missed learning opportunities. The event also exposed systemic weaknesses in international team preparation and execution, with players like Nico Echevarria struggling in key moments. While the win was celebrated, it was framed as a result of resilience rather than strategic excellence. Analysts noted the need for more sophisticated team planning and tactical intelligence, especially in high-pressure match scenarios. The outcome also sparked broader conversation about the future of the event, including venue diversity, team preparation, and the role of leadership in shaping team performance. Ultimately, the victory was a moment of redemption, but it did not resolve deeper structural issues in U.S. team management.
Be the right club. Be the right club today.
That's better than most.
How about him? That is better than most.
Better than most!
Expect anything different?
You've taken it to a whole nother level.
They just made more putts than us.
There's no bandwagon I won't jump on.
Big Randy is here. Hello, Big.
Hey, guys. God, do we have a lot to talk about.
I'm excited.
The miracle of Medina. Can you believe it?
Can you believe it?
One of the greatest comebacks in President's Cup history,
and we're going to break it all down.
Sports history, if you will.
DJ Pi made it out of the house.
He's recovered, and he spent the day on site at Medina as well.
Calling in from the Media Center. Hello.
DJ.
Hello, guys. Good to be with you.
Yeah, man. Team USA.
Serve-pro'd it.
Like, it never even happened out there at Medina.
It was. What a day. What a day.
Excited to talk about it.
As mentioned, we are brought to you by Titleist,
the number one ball at the President's Cup
and the most played driver, iron and wedge,
this week in Medina.
Listen, I think one thing we're going to all agree on,
I think anyone that likes international golf competitions
in any way would agree on,
is one good development we had this week was Jackson Coivin.
Jackson Coivin, of course, plays the Pro-V1 golf ball
and a bag full of Titleist clubs.
He was the only undefeated American player.
He had a clutch finish on Sunday,
won three of the final seven holes to win his match.
Two up to put a big red point up on the board.
Club-twirled it a couple times, coming down the 18th hole.
Get fit. Go get fit at Titleist.com.
There's a reason why these guys spend as much time as they do
getting dotted into their equipment.
There's a reason why we've become somewhat equipment junkies
in terms of getting fit and making sure
we have reasons to be in absolutely everything that we are using,
including your gapping, including the golf ball you're using.
It's worth it. I promise you.
Titleist.com. Go get fit.
Thank you to Titleist for supporting our live shows all year long.
And this will be our final live show of the year.
A little bit sad about that, guys.
How about that?
What U.S. makes the comeback, does it?
Take me there, Deej.
What was the vibe like on site today?
You were there from the jump all the way through.
Did you get to see all the golf?
That's how those days on site go.
But what can you tell us about what it was like on the ground?
I would say, guys, and this is just going to be a blanket apology
for any airplanes that are going over my head.
Don't apologize, Deej. I appreciate it.
Of course. Thank you.
It felt big. It felt big.
I know there's plenty of clowning on the President's Cup.
I know you guys are going to have plenty of eye-rolling to do
about the way this week went.
But it did feel big today. Genuinely.
There was big crowds.
There was big excitement.
There was big roars.
There were pockets of just thrills and delights
all across the golf course, Randy.
It was a good venue.
And it was fun and interesting for a while
until the flip happened, until they flipped the switch.
And then I think it was like, you know, the fan base,
I don't think the fan base necessarily feels the same way
that we in the crooked media feel,
which is like, this is much more about the bigger, larger narrative.
And where does this event go from here?
And I can't believe that they didn't put this guy out in four ball
when he clearly is a better four ball player.
Like, nobody out there is doing that.
Everybody's just like, oh, hell yeah, we won.
We rocked them.
We rocked them, baby.
We rocked them.
And I hadn't been to a team event in quite a while.
Definitely not a President's Cup in a long time.
And it was fun to be out there for that.
I mean, it's as much cynicism as there is about this event,
as much eye-rolling as there is,
still fun to be at a team event on a Sunday when it's close.
You know, it felt big.
Chicago showed up for it, which was very fun to see.
And that's where I'll start.
I'm going to start with the optimism.
It's still the highlight of the fall in terms of golf,
in terms of public interest in it.
Every other fall.
Yeah, of this fall.
You know, if there's not going to be a Ryder Cup.
What else is in the running for a highlight?
I would say the Walker Cup would be the highlight.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The Walker Cup's great, of course.
Very cool, TC.
John Nils next week?
I would say there's probably. There's probably going to be more people watching the President's Cup
and following along than there will be for the Dunhill.
But it doesn't mean it's perfect, but I do. The convenient narrative here is, which we saw this coming,
I think even as of Friday, we said that. I thought the internationals were going to win.
TC, you said the U.S. was going to come back and win.
The narrative was going to be that the U.S. would win
and feel like they learned nothing.
I saw nothing in any postgame that would make me think anything differently,
including some of the questions that were asked
towards some of the players.
But it. Is that the vibe on site, Deeds?
Like, we rocked them.
We got this.
No issues here.
Like, we're good.
Get me to a dare.
Let's go.
A hundred percent.
And it was kind of a weird one where, again, it's like,
I think there's, you know, not that the media is biased
or like they're rooting one way or the other,
but they want it to be close.
You know, they all have their own kind of. Their own kind of bent on it, I guess.
And it's like, once it became just so clear, like,
oh my God, like, here we go again.
It's happened again.
I think that was definitely the vibe.
It was a lot of Team USA coming out on the dais
and just like, I can't believe we rocked them.
And a lot of. There was almost like nothing to push against, you know?
Like, I feel like I go back to that Glenn Eagles presser
as just kind of like, I mean, that's the peak, right?
Let's go get. Like, we're throwing red meat to the wolves.
Let's go get it.
And it was just kind of like, ah.
Coivin, what a player, man.
Tell me about Coivin.
What a player.
I don't think any of us were consulted on any decisions.
Yeah.
Oh, I'm sorry you took it that way.
No, that's not how I meant that at all.
And so I think the natural kind of flip
or the natural, like, am I going crazy
is just the narrative of, like,
everybody thinks we can't play team golf
and we don't know how to play as a team.
And I think we just showed them
by having the biggest singles comeback
in the history of the event.
I'm like, guys, I just don't think. I don't think those two things are aligned.
And I don't think we're really taking. much away from this.
Fierik was asked what he would take away
and it was pretty platitude, you know?
Like, I hope they enjoy it.
This is hard to do.
We had a big loss here, you know, in 2012.
These aren't guaranteed.
But I love these guys.
I love this group.
That's why I want to be in it.
I love being around these guys.
And so I know it's raw
and it's not like anybody's going to come out there
and be like, well, here's the. I thought, honestly, I thought Snedeker might
trot out the nine-point plan
of, like, all the things that he messed up.
Because he kept alluding to it.
And he just, like. He wouldn't stop.
He wouldn't stop talking about how bad he messed up
without getting, like, into the specifics,
which was interesting.
He did say. I did hear him. Yeah.
I did hear him say he should have put
Bridgman out in four balls,
which was the first time I heard him say that,
which was good.
He also did say specifically,
it's like, I put. I kept putting Scottie and Sam up
and let Jeff dictate the strategy there,
which is, like. Like, are they not thinking about this?
That's, like, the most obvious thing.
And you also have four assistant captains
that should stop. Like, say that part out loud to you.
Like, this was elementary stuff
that was messed up here.
Sully, that's what I don't get is, like. I mean, all he did was, like,
woe is me.
I spent so much of my free personal time
over the last year and a half
preparing for this captaincy.
And I'm like, man,
if you were spending that much time
on this captaincy
and you weren't thinking about
pretty big rocks in the jar like that,
then I don't know what the fuck you were doing.
And I just. I just don't think you're exuding great leadership
when you are just on a knife's edge
every time a microphone gets put in front of you
in a panic
and saying some outrageous things
into microphones over the last two days.
Like, at no part. It was like, all right, they won.
And I don't mean to rail on the guy too, too hard.
Like, you know, that could. Out of context, that can look. So they won by four points,
ultimately, at the end of the day.
I do not think he did a good job.
But, like, the captaincy just can't continue
to go to the next nice guy up.
Like, that's. Come on down, big guy.
By all accounts, a nice guy.
Everybody loves him.
I have no personal issues with him at all.
But, like, there's. If you treat this. Keep treating this captaincy
like a ceremonial role like this,
then you're going to keep losing the Ryder Cup
and the President's Cup.
You're going to lose one eventually.
You'll probably lose the next one in Australia.
Like, you. I think if there's ever a time
to pick the internationals to win,
it's the next one when they get back to Australia.
And this was a win on paper, like, technically.
But I think this was absolutely. It was an absolute loss for the U.S.
They had a mirac. Not even a miraculous final day.
Like, they were always going to win singles.
Whether or not it was going to be enough
to raise the deficit was the question.
But the team was that much better on paper.
And you got outclassed
on almost all the analytical moves.
To lose. To be down three points after team play at home
with the on-paper advantage you have
just speaks to the entire situation.
And, yes, the comeback is going to help paper over that.
And I don't think they're going to learn their lesson.
I saw nothing this week
that'll make me change my mind.
mind that Adair is going to go any differently. And again, the
The press room is not like a, it's not a conversation, right?
Like it's, it's throwing out questions and maybe getting an answer.
And it's like, uh, I, I fully understand.
And if I was in their shoes, I would be sitting on that day as saying like, let's talk about
the comeback.
And I'm like, that's not what's interesting about this.
I know you guys, you guys play great.
Beat the shit out of them today.
Amazing.
Great job.
Came together as a team, a lot of good golf played by the squad, but man, how did we get
to that spot?
We came together as a team to play well as individually.
Yes, exactly.
It's just that, that, uh, how did we go down three going into the singles is just fascinating
to me.
And, and I think it, I said this, uh, last night, I think, God, it feels like it was
six days ago, but the, uh, I mean, it just sets us up for a really fun year.
I'm very fun for the rider.
Bring on, we should start the Ryder cup discourse yesterday.
You know, I mean, I'm just, I can't, I can't get enough of it.
It's going to be the most fun cycle ever.
Uh, I just, I'm, I'm so it.
Randy, what say you and Keegan got the last, like the last word they asked the last question
of Keegan and Keegan gotten to, got to stamp him, you know, stamp his, his imprint on this
thing once more.
I thought he had a fine answer.
Yeah.
I thought he was totally shot into outer space.
I'm going to not sign that take.
I thought that was, I thought it was a totally fine answer and he was a class act.
Randy.
Uh, yeah, listen, I, to, to captain Snedeker, I don't know what, I don't know how this week
looks different than showing up and rolling the balls out this week.
Like if you, if you would have told me zero prep, we're, we're just going to let guys
kind of pick and choose their partners on Thursday.
We'll, we'll just roll with it.
I don't know how it's materially different than anything we saw this week.
Uh, that kind of would have been sick.
Yeah.
Right.
Right.
If they just came out and said, Hey, like,
we're going to let these guys just totally call it and, and, and, and, you know, have
fun.
Cause I think that was the other thing.
It was like the worst of both worlds.
It was like, we are totally unprepared.
We're making all the wrong decisions, but also like, I'm going to squeeze the, all of
the fun and just add a bunch of tension to this thing.
Uh, and, and, you know, I, yeah, I, I sticking on the Snedeker stuff for a second.
I think he's, there's two interesting.
One, it seems like he just kind of either read a management book or had somebody in
his ear about like, make sure you take, you're the captain, you take the responsibility and
he just supercharged that to a billion.
And it was like, I'm going to, I'm going to put, put it on me at any turn, which is funny
and got interesting.
Cause I didn't seem like maybe it went a little too far.
And then all he got asked about was just like, why do you keep talking about how bad of a
job you did?
Uh, so that was a fun flywheel that kind of kept going.
But the other thing I'm going to talk about is, I'm going to talk about the, I'm going
to talk about the, the other thing was like, he, he kept saying before that, just like
all, I just want to make these guys comfortable.
I just need to remind these guys who they are.
I just need to tell them they're the best players in the world.
Let them go out and do it.
And I, I, I was talking to a couple of people here today and thinking back to the stricker
captaincy at whistling straights, because I think he said a lot of the same stuff.
Yeah.
And I think it was just basically the vibe was like, if you get a ping pong table, you
fucking let these guys go out there and do it.
It's not that hard.
They're the best players in the world.
And now I think, you know, we got some, some hindsight.
It's like, let's take a step back and realize that that was on home soil.
That was against probably the worst European team that in recent memory, for sure.
There were no European fans there because of COVID and your team was like better
globetrotters.
Like I just don't have a team.
Like, I do think that was probably good enough for that team.
Yeah.
And now I think Ryder Cup Europe has taken leaps and bounds since that moment.
The international team has taken leaps and bounds.
And I think the U.S. is still kind of like, yeah, that's good.
That's good enough, man.
What are you talking about?
And I think you just see like how much smaller the margin is now between like the talent,
you know, the, the letting the talent do it, letting the vibes do it.
And like all the little things you can do along the edges.
There's been a massive decline.
Yeah.
There's been a massive decline in Jordan Spieth's game, Justin Thomas's game, Colin
Morikawa's game, Xander Shoffley, and, and Patrick Cantlay in that since that time.
And Justin Thomas.
Johnson went 5-0 on that team.
He's gone.
Brooks Koepka's game's declined.
Berger was a part of that team.
Not a massive part of it.
Big Tone, of course.
Big Tone.
Bryson played well in that, that Ryder Cup, kind of the only one he's ever played well
in with Scotty.
Like, there's just not a lot left from that.
There's not a lot of, not a lot of stuff walking back through that door.
So I do think it's like, yeah, you could get away with it.
But I also think that both stricter teams, 2017 President's Cup and 2021 Ryder Cup, like
they ran the stats playbook very well.
Like they, they did.
And they had the talent on their side, but they ran, they ran the play and it was pretty
easy to understand exactly what they were doing.
And the players seemed pretty set on it.
And it just didn't seem to have these stuck in the mud friendship pairings.
Like they, they broke up JT and Spieth at Whistling Straits, which was like a little
bit surprising considering their success that they'd had it in 2018 at the Ryder Cup.
And they weren't afraid to do that because the, you know, the, the, the math said to
do something different.
So.
Yeah, I, I, I just, I think we could have done without sneds telling PGA tour radio.
This team's going to be a problem in Ireland.
Uh, cause if anything, the takeaway from this week is that the team is in worse trouble
in Ireland than I thought going into it.
Yeah, I was gonna, I was like, I was standing right there as soon as I, as soon as he said
that, I'm like, that's going to look really funny in like black and white print is like
that.
You could, you could, that's all about your inflection, man.
This is going to be a problem or this team, this team.
It's going to be a problem.
All you have to do is not give them a quote that they're going to put up in their team
room in that moment.
After you were down to the internationals at home, dude, like you haven't won a way
to respond in three on Saturday night.
What, in what world do you think this team's about to be a problem for them?
Like they just, they, Oh man, without changing things.
That's the point.
Like that's the, the overall thing, like the debt, the obvious takeaway here is you cannot
let this win paper.
Hopefully the lessons should have been learned over this past week, but I'd be surprised
if they, if they, if they learn, which is where I think like you do have to credit the
internationals to, to an extent on that front.
We've shouted it out, you know, the last three times we've played this president's cup, but
it's like, they haven't just like gotten beaten 13 times in a row and be like, I don't know.
I think what we're doing is pretty good.
Better keep going.
Like they have tried to change.
They have tried to do different things.
They've tried to wake guys up in different ways and get creative and more and more and
again, like win on the margins and do all these different things.
And so it's, it's all, you said it, you said it the other night, but it's like, do you
know how shocking it is that after the Europe does it, they, they go on every podcast and
they talk about exactly how they do it.
You know, internationals are not necessarily in the same way, but they, they're not shy
about like sharing details and it's the U S just still, it's like, it's just like, no,
I think we, we're rocking them, man.
I, I, no notes.
I don't think there are any details.
Right.
I don't think there's any details.
I don't think there's anything to share.
I think it's just, I think it's just saying like, why, why am I saying what they're doing?
Like, yeah, it's all out there is what I'm saying.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
And they're just not like picking up.
And the U S is like, Hey, we're, we're winning.
Like whenever they win, it's just like, yeah, we won because we were better.
And, and, and we were, we were a tight knit team, you know, tired of people saying this
team's not tight knit.
And again, if I had to bottom line it, like just making sure these guys are comfortable,
just, you know, these guys are the best players in the world.
I just want to stay out of their way and let them do their thing.
If I had to just put a sentence together, that was like my take on this thing is I think
that is 100% dead wrong.
I think from the jump, you have to do everything in your power to deliver the message to these
men that this is a different week than everything.
What you normally do.
Isn't going to work here.
We're running a different race here.
Your role is going to be different.
The routine is going to be different.
I'll do whatever I can to get you comfortable.
I want to make sure you get your sleep and we'll, you know, make the commute short and
we'll do, if you need rest and if you need to stay an hour away.
I'll do all that, but like it is going to be a different week and I need you to be a
different person this week.
Like instead of just saying out loud the exact opposite of that and wondering why it keeps
going wrong when you have massive talent advantages.
Again, we could talk about it for another hour of how big the gap was this week.
This was like the biggest gap we've had in any of these events and they still almost
lost on home.
So even as of an hour and a half before the final, when they clinched it, the odds were
in the internationals favor.
Like it, it flipped there pretty quickly.
Hideki's match getting away was really, really hurtful to the internationals, but like this
was closer even than the final score is going to, is going to indicate here.
Yeah.
Agree.
I, I, I saw a Porter recirculating this too, but it's the, it's the ROM quote from the
Ryder cup, right?
Where it's like every, every us team seems to go into this, be like, I just need to remind
these guys who they are, what they're about, how they can come in and do it.
And ROMs ROMs whole thing was like, no, the, the reason Europe works is because they're
everybody forgets who they are and everybody shows up and they just sell out for the team
and they just, nobody's, nobody's got an ego.
Nobody's got anything.
It's, it's like you're saying different week.
I just think that's, that's, that's the way to think about it.
Yeah.
Which, which again, I think like maybe I'm, why I'm like most passionate about it at this
point is like, we kind of need, that's like the table stakes or else like, you're not
going to make this, this event's not going to be very interesting.
The Ryder cup is not going to be that interesting.
If you don't like seriously challenge them, this is going to be the one, I think a lot
of people coming off 2021 thought.
23 I
certainly thought they were going to win that one that was silly i'm aware of that i live that every
day uh i i don't think any i don't think are there going to be like any u.s fans that i think
we're going over there to kick their ass anymore i think they've lost pretty much i heard a lot of
them today i heard they're gonna be a problem yeah uh yeah brandy any thoughts on that uh
well listen a lot of this discussion is is actual writer cup discussion i are we ready to talk about
like this president's cup because the international team kind of gagged and they did not show up and
they need to like we need to call out names and point some fingers it was pretty disgraceful
i mean first of all you've lost 11 straight president's cups like this is washington
june
generals versus harlem globetrotter shit it's embarrassing it really is embarrassing you have
four and a half continents worth of people to draw from and this is the best we can do i thought i
had this thought tc where's australian men's golf i've been sounding the alarm for two years big
yeah have some pride australia what an embarrassing embarrassing time to be an
australian men's pro golf fan i i just think like what what what is
this
what are we doing i don't know let's get into some of that i i thought i could not have the
international team could not have just shrank more uh because sorry as you said they they were
in a spot where they could close this out and it wasn't freaking close it like when it really
mattered it wasn't closed well i think i mean randy to your point like we were very confused
last night as to some of the uh or you guys
where i was even on the show i was watching along i was like hell yeah i agree you were confused i
was confused you guys were confused too of like why why snedeker would just put
scheffler out and then just allow them to choose you know pick and choose whoever they wanted to
put against him to waste someone and um you know obviously things worked out from a just like they
just got out like i think i think the internationals probably could have front loaded a little bit more
but overall like they just got straight up beat it didn't matter who the fuck they were trotting out
when where anything they just got their asses kicked i i tried to run an analysis on like if
with hindsight if this guy played this guy today how could the internationals have won
and they're like there was a technical way but it was quite unrealistic of like from a strategy
perspective you would not have done that if you were ogilvy and it's it's impossible like
straight i think the numbers say for today um in the actual day
like the u.s made 55 birdies uh and like 21 bogeys are worse that's always a hard one to
kind of determine just because there's there's concessions and things like that internationals
only made 46 birdies and 25 bogeys are worse um so that's i mean that's a massive gap right there
that's 13 shots or so uh right there at least uh between the two and yeah it was just a but to your
point randy like where i ogilvy was asked about the identity of this team afterwards and he said
something about
like our identity is a group of professionals that have to travel the world to fulfill their
fulfill their dreams and i'm paraphrasing that of course but like that is a it's a note in here of
like home field advantage it's one country versus you know this group of guys get does get to play
almost all their golf in the u.s on on u.s courses doesn't have to be out of their comfort zone very
often in terms of where they're living and where they're traveling in a lot of places and also
a team that has been decimated by live golf part of the reason why it has been decimated
is that exact fact like the international players were not as loyal to the u.s based pga tour and
they lost more talent than the u.s lost out of that so it was already lopsided and then it got
a lot more lopsided uh with with live and cam young was supposed to be the australian prince
that was promised and he not only left for live but also lost his game uh yeah what i say cam
oh yeah cam smith um you know it that's where i'm like
dude i i still tip my cap to ogle v emelman the whole i get all that it's the whole world though
it's the world this is the best you're getting from the whole world i mean they don't even play
like it's because you won't let anybody grow the game big you kind of sound like scott o'neill like
i'm betting on the game for 40 years i guess we're not growing it well enough like i big i think where
i uh my internet went out
out during the beginning of your screed there but i i trust it was good uh i think what's kind of a
bummer for the internationals is that they have to wear this whereas like the the pj tour should be
wearing this like they made up the competition they set the rules they do all of these like
they've made the bed here and uh if you can't look at this after like 30 years and be like oh maybe
we didn't make a great bed uh like that's that's tough to keep kind of trotting out a team that
has to be like all right well let's see what happens next
see if we can get them this time and they've changed both trotters gotta have an off night
the whole thing like macro speaking like it's soulless it's still like what are we doing this
for you know that's a conversation but yeah when it comes down to it like i just need a little bit
more it gosh i have my you know i'm a gold card carrying pga tour simp here but if i if i may say
like what they one thing i do like about the president's cup though is they don't let the
home field advantage set up wise get out of control like sned said
A little bit of say coming into the week,
but he has no say over hole locations as of week of, you know,
doesn't manage to throw the ground. Can you imagine if they did? Yeah,
I know it would be bad. And so I would, I think, I feel like,
I feel like the,
the setup as it relates to the golf was a big variety,
like what Europe did and Marco Simone was smart,
but it was like manipulating the teas.
So there weren't wedges into the greens,
even make either making par force drivable or having everybody play from
one 80 is like, all right, man, like what, can we just play golf?
Like, wouldn't it be more interesting if the golf was,
was the star here and that's where I do give the president's cup the
advantage. Now it's also completely embarrassing.
The U S messed that up at Beth page when they had the same opportunity.
That's not me.
Sorry. I do think the, like the tour for the first time they got the,
they got the venue, right. Stateside or, or, you know,
here in North America, because even Royal Montreal,
like that's been a disaster. So like they finally got,
got the venue, right. And it was almost maybe a little bit by accident.
Like I had an Australian firm. If you listen to NBC,
it's Jeff Ogilvie doing all the work, but Ogilvie cocking and mead,
cocking and mead.
But I think that was a big part of why this was watchable this week was
because it was a really, really interesting, fun,
dynamic venue and,
and of course that they could manipulate daily to show like,
Oh, we're going to have a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big.
And it was, that was the story of the day. And like the,
the internationals were all laying up and then,
and they were all winning the whole. And then,
and then I think the U S finally got,
got wind of that and started playing a little bit more patiently and
conservatively. And I thought that was interesting.
The par threes were awesome. It was, yeah. Like I, like I,
I thought this, the course was the, the story in a good way this week and made for,
you know,
it just made for a better scale. Right.
And I think we should see that at Kingston Heath in two years.
And then I don't think we're going to see that at Belle Reve just because I
think Belle Reve, like Belle Reve just doesn't have this going on with the
greens.
Kingston Heath might need to be the walk-off for this event, but the,
TC to your point, I was out here today and it's like,
everybody knows when you come to like one of these singles days,
it's like, you're going to see what you're going to see. Like, you know,
who knows?
You've got to,
you've got to kind of declare bankruptcy at the beginning of the day and just
everything's a bonus. So it's in a way you're like, well,
I guess I can just kind of wander around and see whatever I want.
And I did that for awhile. And then when the first match got to 12,
I was like, I think I'm just, I'm good.
I'm just going to stay right here for about two and a half, three hours.
Like this is, this is great.
And you could sit there on 12 and watch all the different strategies of the
different guys playing it. Like even guys pushing it up into that front bunker,
which like looked okay. And even you heard one of the U S captain,
this captain's before any matches has gotten there being like a front bunker
is totally fine.
And then you see like two guys try to play out of there and they have no
chance of getting it close from there because you're coming right down this
downslope. Uh, shout out to the American captains, but the, uh,
and then not only that, but you're standing there on 13, which was like,
I feel like it's so, it's so rare for,
for par threes to be interesting on the PJ tour.
Usually they're just brutish and hard and that was British and hard,
but it was like, I just kept watching.
Every guy tried to hit directly at that flag and occasionally guys hit genuinely
brilliant shots that went to 30 feet, 40 feet, like just no chance.
You had to stop it in like a Kleenex box.
And then your reward was like, maybe it stopped 25 feet from the hole.
Whereas like Scotty was kind of the first guy to look at it and be like,
dude, I'm just going to play to the right, like play to the right, use that slope.
Like that's such a cleaner way to play the drawing where C woo C woo was, uh,
he got there and coven, I think it played out to the right,
maybe just like long, right.
Uh, and C woo goes right at it.
Pimp steps at club, twirls it, uh, and just 30 feet short, like
into the into the kind of like head the hay i mean it was just it was great but watching like sam
burns was twisted up in knots he came up so far short uh because it was just a little breath of
wind and anyways it's like being out there again today we've said it a million times but just
remembering that those two par threes that were just identical shots and seeing like that you
made it you took that same land and and up to the value 100x from what from what they had before it
was just kind of sums up the the week for me which i think is a great reminder for people because
sometimes it can get lost a little bit like sometimes the competition is really good on a
pretty mediocre golf course or or a bland setup with pins in the middle of the greens
close really close competition yeah yeah close competition but man like i i felt like there
were there were a lot of spots where it was like no like you like it was separators like
like i don't think there were a lot of holes like
there's no statistical evidence to back this up but i felt like we had less tied matches and less
yeah tied holes this week and we've had in a lot of previous team competitions over the last
five six years and hold hold holds one with par like i think that's good match play like
the i said i've said this this week like the worst kind of like four ball matches just like everyone
on the green and we're just going to take an hour for everyone to putt out and putt from from mid
through the bottom and we're just going to take an hour to putt and we're just going to take an hour
to putt out and putt and we're just going to take an hour to putt and we're just going to take an hour
to putt and we're just going to take an hour to putt and we're just going to take an hour to putt
and this was like not a piece of shit putting contest at all it just felt like you had to
strike the ball uh this week and if you didn't you were going to pay off the tee and you were
going to pay around the greens as well not agree not only nice and firm that's what i was going to
say jeff said uh in the press series like i've genuinely never seen a golf course change this
much from monday to sunday like it's it's they were on the like on the edge almost and it wasn't
windy even i mean it was like which i think tc when you and i played it it's a media day pins are
kind of pins are fine but greens are fairly soft whatever and i'm looking at it and i'm like like
man jt shot what 27 under here 28 under or something and now they've you know they've
widened it and they've made the greens bigger and they've done all these different things and
half par holes and i was like man if they bring another stroke play event here like
could be a bloodbath and man i feel the opposite after watching this i mean it
was like a very very proper test which was like we get pissed i think we get pissed because guys
don't have to hit enough long irons anymore you gotta hit a lot of long irons out there
but you gotta there's some long par fours the guys were hitting three woods off of because
they're worried about runouts and they're worried about you know finding bunkers and the way the
bunkers were placed in interesting places just made some bunkers worthy of taking on and some
not worthy of taking on and that that i found that part interesting even like the four ball
scores were not i don't know if anybody reached double digits under par in a four ball
match even uh which again so like i don't think you're getting you're definitely not getting too
many stroke play rounds that get get really deep but yeah once we're a little worried about it
early in the week but once the sun came out and started like drying the place out just even a
little bit it wasn't massively firm but sun sun coming out was a massive difference maker and no
matter the forecast you can live like the sun's always out with high noon high noon is made with
real vodka and real tequila unlike other popular seltzer and hard tea brands delivering a clean
finish and a refreshing taste high noon is made with real vodka and real tequila unlike other
popular seltzer and real tequila like high noon is available in vodka seltzer tequila seltzer and
non-carbonated vodka iced tea all under 100 calories and with crisp delicious flavors for
any occasion under the sun what are you waiting for text your friends make some plans and pick
up a pack of high noon on the way you can go to high noon spirits.com to find high noon near you
uh it's in honor of our guy dub i don't know when the next time i'm going to be able to bust out
some grape is so i'm on grape tonight i got the transfusion one i got lemon left okay each you're
trying to make lemon
try to make some lemonade out tonight yeah yeah so a question for you uh our guy peter costas pk
haven't heard from him in a while he was he was he was on x the everything app uh and i actually
agreed with this take he said paraphrasing here but basically that that the euros have an
advantage because they don't have to play a team competition every year that they that they get to
wait and and have that like longing for it and you know be able to rest
every other year and all that and i think that that uh there's something there it gets it's
versus every year for the u.s is just like you don't have that that chance to to wait or that
chance for almost different eras to start and begin or it's it's always in flux every year
right i totally agree with this take um i think it the president's cup and winning it every year
also just lets you pat yourself on the back and not not feel the hunger a little bit going into
rider cups and i think it's
where i think this has the biggest effect is it is a little harder for the guys that play in all of
these to truly get up come week of i guess especially for the president's cup when you're
supposed to win it's just kind of hard to fake the energy and and and you know it just kind of
feels like you know punching down a little bit it's like celebrating too much when you're a two
touchdown favorite uh in an nfl game like it just kind of feels unsportsmanlike and
it it just kind of makes showing up for the rider cup just the same thing but with more
pressure without the ability to you know ramp up to it in a and really just let yourself feel like
you're building up to it in some way i totally agree that they get a little bit muted uh to the
process and um just tend to tell themselves they know how to do these weeks because they've done
it a bunch yet they've just done it a bunch and kind of all the wrong way that we don't need to
relitigate but that's i agree with peter and i think on that note too it's like i think that
you know some of the solutions that have been bandied about for the president's cup are like
should we take this international like it should should every single one be held internationally
and you move it around the world more often and all that all that's going to do is just
wear out the u.s team yet more right and so i don't think that's workable um you maybe bring
more regions or or countries or whatever and you make it more into like the old world cup
space kind of thing um but you know what's that space space yeah
either way i think roll up and the gang are i think they're going to get the the schedule
locked down and then i think they're turning their focus to the tv product and the president's cup
next i mean i think again what's uh go ahead rainy sorry no i my my idea would be to make
the writer cup and the president's cup every four years and then have one every two years
um money i don't know if that's a good idea i don't know if that's a good idea i don't know if
that's a good idea i don't know if that's a good idea i don't know if that's a good idea i don't
think you're going to get a lot of accountants to agree with that no right but that's where
when you start from this is a cash grab like none none of this matters totally agree which is what
i was kind of the other side of the same coin i was going to say is like if you if you go back
to everything roll app has said it all comes back to competition fan engagement like easy
to understand all these things and i'm just i'm i'm i have no idea i'm very curious like
the guy was out there standing on the first tee next to the president of the united states for
two hours today just watching it all go down and i'm like very curious when he lays that
filter over all of this like what does what do you think what is it what did you think
you know because thursday and friday we're pretty sleepy out there yeah and but it but it has its
moments right i mean it's it's just not all black and black or white i mean it is it is a good event
it's a well-run event it's a a lot of people really enjoy it it's probably a big money maker
it gets the international players like the international stars of the pj tour playing in
a big team event i mean i think like the easy one of the easy winners from this week is jackson
coivin because he got to do amazing things like in front of a huge audience in team golf say the
same thing for tom kim and siwoo kim and some of these other guys that like have a harder time
standing out on a week-to-week stroke play uh you know sort of environment and so it's just yeah i
don't think it's like i see all the reasons why the maybe obvious statement i see all the reasons
why the pj tour does it and it's not as easy to just be like well wipe it off for you know it's
not as easy as being like we're not going back to hawaii but they did that you know and i'm curious
uh just kind of how the debrief goes i guess the audit yeah i don't think it sucks i just think
yeah it's a very interesting thing that you're weighing of is it easy to understand not really
for the common fan could it could it be a lot better yeah like in some of the
stuff that's like like when it's really good it's almost this confluence of events instead of that
being the norm yeah right i honestly i believe this i think like the president tom kim might
have contributed to like helping save the president's cup like the last three president's
cup would have honestly been totally super bleak if not for the life he injected and the putts he's
made and the in siwoo i would say yeah as well but in the same like i think tom brought that out of
siwoo like uh in a way as well yeah i think that's a really good point i think that's a really good
as well but i mean they don't have a lot to show for at the end of the day but i still think it
has at least made it interesting if this thing's about like growing the game worldwide they've had
one of these in korea they've had two at royal montreal they've had which the one in korea came
down to the last putt and was like the best yeah it's about money it's not about the game they've
never had one in japan they haven't had one in you know i know south africa's fraught these days but
like they haven't had one in south africa since japan would be awesome right go back to korea go
to japan there's a lot of people that are going to go to korea and they're going to go to japan
so many places you could go that or but i feel like royal montreal no we're just going to go
like that's where it's like all right if this is going to be the
the version of the president's cup that we're sticking with,
then at least go to fucking interesting places,
which again is where I'm like,
that's where I come back to like,
man,
it's hard to be Ryan Fox on the day is at the end of that.
Like,
why'd you get your ass kicked?
Dude,
I come on,
man.
I don't know.
It's a pretty tough deck to,
to try to stab.
Yeah.
So taste it,
Randy.
Yeah.
So I just think philosophically,
what is it?
14,
one in one,
the history.
Oh,
of course.
It's just,
it just can't be a good event.
And I don't,
I,
it's a,
it's to the point where it's only interesting and what it could be.
And I don't think it's that interesting in what it is.
And that's a shame.
It's really very well said.
Yeah.
Let's get through the matches from today.
The first match out,
the internationals put out Rio.
He's not Sune who Satsune.
I need to get better at this one.
This is one.
I think we've all bungled quite a bit,
including the broadcasters,
but Satsune against,
against Cameron young.
We had some questions last night about putting cam out against Rio,
kind of viewed as one of the more bought closer to bottom tier guys on the
international side.
Cam obviously being maybe one or two top guys was the top American by far in
this president's cup.
Rio got up quickly,
made birdie on three and four,
but cam birdied five and six to tie it.
Then he won 11,
12 and 13.
And,
and also,
yeah,
then he drained,
he drained a bomb on six,
team to win it three and two gave a great Cameron young fist pump.
And that was the,
the first point on the board made it 10 and a half,
eight and a half in that one.
So,
but put that in the,
again,
who are the big winners this week?
Cameron young cam young tip of the spear,
your first guy out the getting what you hope you're going to get from a guy like that.
I mean,
it was just awesome.
He was asked about that in the press conference as well.
Gave one of the best answers we heard from an American in the last 10 years in match play events.
I,
I think of just like what I love about this format is everything's so definitive.
Everything is every putt means something directly.
And going out first is extremely definitive for me of,
I don't have to play hypothetical again,
paraphrasing what's going on behind me.
I just have to go out and get a point for my team.
And that seems to help lock in his focus.
And he is just the dude,
the Prince who has promised the guy we've been waiting for.
And I don't know if we've given him enough flowers of like,
we've got a guy.
We just need like that guy.
The problem with us has been like,
we need you to get off the bus in Ireland on a road rider cup.
Cause that's what's up next.
And like,
you've been great for these last two team events and we need the same guy to show up in Ireland.
That's the only way the U S is going to have a chance.
And I'm still not convinced.
This whole thing should be about identification of dudes,
which I think we identified a couple.
We did.
Yeah.
Next up,
the U S puts up Wyndham Clark,
the internationals match with Tom Kim.
Tom Kim won this match.
Three and two Wyndham birdied the second,
but Kim birdied the third Wyndham birdied six that put him one up,
but he bogeyed eight.
They were tied at the turn.
Kim turned it on there.
He birdied nine,
10 and 12.
Also won the 11th with a par that got him to two up part of the 14th.
That got him to three up.
Wyndham made him put it from like 10 feet on the 16th green when he only needed to put it from there.
That was a little,
little much,
but Tom Kim wins it three and two.
That was the,
that was the third total point that was settled.
Randy,
I know you like to go in order of when the matches were,
were settled here.
I can go back to that order if you'd like me to,
but no,
that's okay.
Uh,
another dude,
Tom Kim all in I'm,
I'm a Tom Kim fan and I don't care who knows it.
I need you to the world.
Thank you,
Randy.
I'm not far behind you.
Big guys.
I,
uh,
Smiley said like these guys kind of leaked oil coming in.
I thought it was the opposite.
I thought they put save some of their best golf for that nine through 15 stretch.
I thought,
uh,
Tom Kim wasn't doing a bunch of performative,
uh,
bullshit.
He was just like,
he was good.
He was just really good.
And he was,
he seems like he's matured a lot.
And it seems like he was,
um,
like,
I don't know.
He just playing within himself and not trying to get the crowd needlessly riled up.
Like he was like,
no,
I'm just going to go do my own shit and not,
not,
uh,
call a bunch more attention to it.
That's going to then reverberate back on my teammates and,
and,
you know,
raise the stakes for them,
which,
which I loved.
So he was a delight all week.
He's still slow as shit,
but he was,
I think that works in team play to your point,
TC.
And for singles,
he was extremely even keel today and did not create the road.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He,
I mean,
he,
yeah,
he brings the antics on the road.
He brought the antics on the road at quail hollow and he did some,
I know four years ago and he was what,
like 12 years old at the time.
Yeah,
no,
but I'm,
I'm saying it works in the team,
even the early part of this,
but singles at Paul McGinley was talking about that in the booth today too.
It was good analysis of like,
yeah,
make this putt and don't,
you don't need to do anything in this part of the golf course right now.
That's going to get this crowd.
That was the best analysis of the day.
Yeah.
I thought McGinley is what he did like an hour hit on there.
That was great.
I was bummed to see him leave the booth.
Tom Kim was the best player in strokes gained in Sunday singles here today.
And he left early as off to the Asian games.
I say this full throat,
go fucking win the Asian games and get out of your military service.
I think we golf golf should be rooting for that.
I think golf scene is much better.
We've seen that,
that,
that have an effect on,
uh,
uh,
some Korean players careers.
And I don't want to see that happen to Tom Kim.
So real talk,
they should,
the Korean government should add.
If you win a president's cup on an international team,
you're exempt from military service.
That might be harder than winning a game or an Olympic gold medal at this point.
Or if you're in the U S and you lose a president's cup,
you,
you,
you have to go serve enlisted into the military.
Yeah,
exactly.
If you listen to Sned's,
a little bit,
I,
he,
he,
he sounded like boys were serving the country.
He said something,
he fought for their country this week.
Cody,
I'm curious if you had any input,
uh,
watching that,
you know,
watching some fellow servicemen,
uh,
like,
like the United States golfers out there this week,
it's not behind the scenes,
shaking his head at me.
There's not one way in a little,
little fast and loose with the cliches.
Uh,
let me just say it one more time.
Tom came four points.
Nobody else got to that level.
I all played all five sessions.
Like could not be more impressed.
This is Ernie banks on the Cubs.
This is miles Garrett on the Browns.
Tom Kim was the man this week.
It's Jerry bought on the reds,
Randy too.
We can't,
we can't,
we can't sidestep that,
uh,
match three,
Corey Connors against Justin Thomas.
JT jumped all over him early.
He won the first two holes with pars have been made birdie on three and four.
He got to five up through six with the birdie.
Then he birdied nine and 10 had to five up.
Uh,
through that moment as well.
He ends up winning five and three.
This was the second point on the board,
made it 10 and a half,
nine and a half.
Uh,
and an early,
early statement from JT and a statement from Corey Connors that,
uh,
was,
it was not a strong one.
I think our,
I think our foursomes,
uh,
you know,
performance,
I think we would have gone toe to toe with Corey Connors today.
I think,
I think that's right.
Yeah.
I think it would have been a knockdown,
drag out.
Uh,
I've never felt more vindicated on just like I've seen into this guy's soul.
And I know exactly who he is as a golfer.
It's always,
it's,
it's always hard,
right?
When it's like,
Oh,
you know,
the stats say this guy's a bad putter.
And so every time he has a putt,
you're like,
well,
he's probably going to miss cause he's a bad putter.
Obviously that's not how golf works.
But then some days you're like,
damn dude,
he is,
whoa,
he is a bad player.
It's not good.
I mean,
he missed what?
Like three inside of,
he missed a three footer today.
It's,
and it's just that three to five feet,
right?
Like that's where he's statistically the worst on tour.
I think he's bad across the board,
but that's where he's especially bad.
He was the worst player in the field putting today by three full shots.
It was minus 4.6 on the greens today.
Is,
is,
is Canada killing Corey Connors?
That's part of my problem is,
you know,
I feel like these guys,
we have so many different countries.
They're representing this team.
Everybody's just happy.
They have somebody on the team,
you know,
who's Corey Connors.
Taking heat from up in Canada.
I need the Canadians on his end.
No,
I Randy,
I have had some Canadians reason out,
you know,
finding community and Nick Taylor massive have today from,
from him.
Nick showed up,
Nick showed up,
Nick showed up,
but,
but man,
Corey,
a lot of them were denouncing Corey.
They were calling him Jupiter.
Corey lives down there.
But man,
he's just,
I just,
I don't,
I don't want to ever see him wear the shield ever again.
I'm going to go that far with it.
I think that's right.
Tron.
We're good records.
Fucking horrible.
We'll lose with other people.
Did he play all five this week too?
He did.
He,
yeah,
he came in at nine and seven.
I'm sorry.
Two and seven coming into this week.
A big difference in that.
And this week he went two and three.
So he moves to four and 10 career in the president's cup,
but pretty much everybody on the international side's record kind of looks
somewhat similar to that.
But I,
I hear you there match for,
uh,
Scottie Scheffler was put out first.
Uh,
Ogilvy famously followed this with Nico Echevarria.
Scottie birdied five of the first 10 holes,
got all the way to four up.
Um,
interesting moment.
This match fan yelled in Nico's backswing on 14 ends up blowing it way.
Right.
Scottie ended up conceding him a 30 footer for par and the half on that
hole.
Uh,
Nico proceeded to chip in on 16.
Uh,
when he was looking like he was going to lose the match there,
it took it to 17.
Uh,
there Scottie didn't like being asked about this,
both after the round and in the presser and said there's no
spot for it in this game and uh didn't want to be asked about it then was asked you know about
sitting on saturday afternoon and he snaps back at cara banks like do you want to talk about today's
match i did just play some golf uh in a very weird uh moment post game uh that i just was
unsettling it was very snippy and it was just not not good i don't know it's it's credit to scotty
got a lot to be antagonistic or i tron you made a good point on slack so i don't want to step on it
but just like what an opportunity for scheffler to you know speak speak to the american fans kind
of set a different tone and on days like this like hey here's here's what we're about we don't
do shit like that we cheer for our team you know like give an impassioned thing of like here here's
our values as american golf fans yeah yeah yeah
and instead he's like offended that he's even asked about that and just that he wasn't there
was no chance to ask in media yesterday about sitting you know he was not made available for
for you know media after sitting yesterday and so cara banks asked him a fair question i think on air
um you know maybe not the most pressing question but like you don't get to pick the questions scott
that's kind of the deal like the journalist there is asking the questions just just answer it man i
don't know uh he wants to be asked about bd
the shit out of nico echeveria today that's sure that's what i prefer i feel for our guy nico i
like nico and i think uh i think my guy might be just totally lost off the tee sounds like i heard
some y words circulating the property uh it's just not it's not good with the with the driver
which i don't know if that's like a i don't know if that just popped up that's like a man how do
you get a captain's pick with a guy who can't drive the ball is just again international teams
in a tough spot congratulations team usa but like there's a couple moments like that where it's like
that's that's who you beat that that shit was like that's why you're gonna like scotty wouldn't
have gotten away with the back nine probably against a justin rose or a tommy fleetwood or
one of these guys and he's gonna play in the rider cup like it just it it shouldn't have even been as
close as as some of these matches were i mean scotty did play well today
you
um i think it like and that opportunity is great opportunity to say like yeah it was it was i did
not play my best golf i and i've not been great in foursomes i understand why like uh captain did
what he did i'm i'm here for team golf and i'm here to help my team in any way that i possibly
could i was glad to get a point on the board today um and blah blah blah like that's all you got to
do in that such an easy answer even even if like you don't truly even if you're pissed right it's
such an easy answer yeah yeah so and then and then i don't know i and props to nico for like
hanging in there he got four down and took it all the way to 17 which made a couple birdies
down the stretch as well and um but yeah yeah we like we got to have some sort of wild card or
something something like hey you can pluck this guy from the u.s team or or there's only eight
singles shouldn't it should have enveloped him it could but yeah there's got to be like
on the
can you get like uh can we make it like fifa or something where if you have some kind of
nationality tie you know and you're american can you can you pluck from that pool like
uh i have to think on that for for but even all the interesting guys on that front are all like
they all have some sort of it's like a thor bjornson with norway or like there's it's mostly
european ties which is tough but if you've ever been to an international country you're you're
you've ever been to an international country you're you've ever been to an international country you're
a nicholas jacklin award equivalent for the president's cup
and does this have to be the scheffler echeveria award there were many many many jokes about that
out there i did hear many of those jokes out there randy they're gonna have to stop that award
somebody's golf course together somebody said he won the nicholas jacklin and lost it in a five
minute span uh with the concession and then with the interview afterward wasn't he shushing the
crowd yeah i i did hear what you get on 16 when he chipped in he gave the prep
i like nico but man you can't like have somebody give you a diaper and then like
shush the crowd it's like it's like something i would do that's like you can't you can't do that
the camera work was so good too because scotty just like is looking at him just like is this
guy serious did you just shush me that's for real though on the on the scotty stuff props to him for
for giving him or you know for kind of tying the hole there i think that was that was legitimately
the right thing to do and yeah you know agree a good gesture i i i agree with that i think yeah
you could have in that moment answered the question with like yeah if you're gonna yell
on somebody's backswing like i'm just gonna concede the hole you're not helping team usa
like don't don't do that would have been a a different message uh you could have sent sent
there as well we'll talk about we're gonna give some grades and talk about everybody's week in
totality here when we get through these also real quick they're just playing some highlights here
cory connor's going out of bounds again
let's do was
so sick like not even close to being in bounds randy i you reheated this on slack i saw but like
i don't another winner for the week our our entire ob should be everywhere
i think we yes we can man i think we moved the ball forward we did good in the primaries this
week i think i think i see a path to victory for just putting ob fucking everywhere because i i
think that's uh we've seen how much it scares the living daylights out of these guys might be the
solution for tio too it's all ob all of it yeah that's what but that's the well-designed ob was
the difference maker here like on that we just can't be it's politics we can't be you know can't
be too precious if it's all or nothing at this point just everywhere don't we gotta start finding
where that line is exactly well designed yes my point being like you're gonna put ob left this way
not not this way don't make it an easy bailout right that's what made the ob work was like if
you missed in the
right uh you know missed way right on three or missed way way right on one you had a bad time
i got good news for you sally we're putting ob up the right as well say sally we are defining
corridors the shot can you hit the shot match six chris gotterup was put out uh by the u.s
matched by the other sacrificial lamb on the international side christian bezaydenhout
uh gotterup did this win match did go all the way to 18 gotterup won it one up he was all gotterup
very early over bez birdie three of the first six but bez got both of the par threes uh on the front
and pulled within two got our bogey back-to-back holes uh bez only made up one hole in that stretch
between 10 and 11 bez then bogeyed 12 to hand another one right back to gotterup two up gotterup
then handed 17 to bez to make it go all the way to 18 uh but won it there uh gotterup moved to three
and one on the week was asked about uh the week afterwards said yeah he was as nervous as he'd
been uh and did not have his
a game this week which i think was just an interesting combo of being being hyper nervous
and uncomfortable spot and not feeling like you've got your game with you but his putter saved him he
made a ton of putts uh yesterday and saturday um near the end of of this four ball match there and
continued that into foursomes and then uh putted well again today uh to eke out the uh the one-up
win over over bez and a match the u.s absolutely they needed to have that one yeah it finally takes
a takes a loss in singles i know the streak is
over uh that is a uh sorry that's another one we're gonna we're gonna need you getting off the
bus my man at uh at a dare manor as well because we've identified another rider cup dude potentially
uh need it you need it hideki matsuyama against colin morikawa morikawa won this one one up this
was the eighth point on the board this put the u.s up 13 and a half to 12 and a half um a decky
was two up through six but morikawa won seven and eight to tie it back up
you
um then he won the 10th with a par to put another red on the board this was nine red
flags on the board at this moment this is when things were looking real good for the u.s
morikawa then drove the 12th but three putted it and hideki birdie did that put him back to one up
that put it back to 15 15 projected in that exact moment but uh morikawa drained a bomb on 15
uh to tie the match back up when hideki missed from three feet 10 inches that was the moment
that was the flip that was flip the switch yeah flip the switch on the internationals
the wind went out of their sails there um hideki proceeded to blow the 18th hole
uh as well and morikawa won the match one up um i do want to uh i want to massively shout out
hideki shot on 12 i mentioned i was i was posted up there for a long time that was outstanding man
totally gross probably the best shot i saw today way way left up in the in the stuff kind of a
weird lie and just landed it perfectly on that back slope uh right where he had to and somehow
landed it on the downslope but with enough spin that he could suck it all the way back i mean it
was it was textbook golf shot really good stuff hideki hit some great shots all day and he made
some putts like in that early going and middle stretch and the putter kind of cooled off for him
towards the end got a mess on 18 too i i think hideki disappointed me more than anybody on the
international team today just the performance down the stretch had to have that match had to at least
get a half point out of that match and i think that was a really good shot and i think that was a
good match like this is one of the two major winners on the international team like this is
your dude and for him to wilt like that i hope the japanese media is giving it to hideki because
that was mucho not good three
major winners i believe on the don't forget about my guy foxy randy don't don't thank you oh i kind
of don't count adam scott as who i oh wow okay i realized i actually skipped match five apologies
for that sung jay m was put out sam burns matched up against him sung jay won this match three and
one burns struggled early doubled the second to lose that one he did tie it back up with a birdie
on three sung jay birdie three out of five holes from six to ten though but was only one up through
ten uh burns also birdied eight and ten but burns made a mess of 12 made a mess of 13 to fall two
down uh and just kind of really ran out of steam towards the end of end of the match and sung jay
sung jay held his own and won one that one three that was the fifth point on the board that made
it 12 and a half ten and a half international when that one burns another guy who played
played all five sessions yes yeah one out of bounds on two yeah uh sung jay was the guy they
needed him to be this week though i mean he was like a guy that can be a question mark
yeah
uh from time to time and and he was he was great this week he was by far the best international
player overall um from a strokes game perspective he went two two and one but just old old old sung
jay of uh ball strike and jesse he was uh number one in the field and strokes game approach this
week which was used to be the strength of his game when he was uh a name we were talking about
weekly um so hopefully the resurgence there does sung jay not have to do the military stuff is he
exempt from that or
i never hear anything with him about that i thought he did i want to say like he did like
an abbreviated version i think excuse me greetings uh gentlemen uh good evening here yes i think he's
in the reserve program uh he did some training over this winter because i remember him showing
up and like randomly being bald for a little bit um but instead of knocking it all out consecutively
i think he does it like he he won the gold medal in the 2023 asian games
he's in the gold medal in the 2023 asian games he's in the gold medal in the 2023 asian games
he's still is doing it though he's just doesn't have to do the complete service got it i'll pull
up uh pictures because there's some some funny military uniforms yeah um match eight patrick
can't lay the hammer against adam scott uh can't lay wins this two and one can't lay was uh two up
in the first four adam scott battled back he got it to one down but can't lay one 11 to go back to
two up and he was he was very strong throughout he almost aced the 13th hole highlight uh can't
lay wrote in a 57 foot putt on 16 to just break scott's back uh that put him two up uh with two
to play but big big yell and and some real emotion from can't lay in that one it was probably the
loudest moment on site of the entire day dj i would venture yeah i was i was kind of back on
the t-box just watching like 15 green and 16 t and kind of ping-ponging back and forth and so i
was kind of like oh my god can't lay and i was like oh my god can't lay even from where it was it
was just like he kind of had that feeling in your stomach of like oh man these are kinds of the ones
like can't lay can't lay makes in these uh in these moments he's just he's a dog and in singles
man they said on the broadcast it was a tough two-putt yeah it looked like it and it looked
hard and yeah dude he was nails today i mean just like because i think adam scott kind of threw the
kitchen sink at him there from
holes and and like didn't like lost ground which is crazy yeah i know it's just it's just tough man
and then you start getting into those moments where it's like adam scott must make putt and
you're just like uh yeah yeah i hate to say it i hate to say it big yeah he had a good look on 17
to to win that hole and make that a lot a lot more interesting and and did not happen unfortunately
so that was the seventh point that tied things 12 and a half
12 and a half the more cow point was the eighth point made it us 13 and a half to 12 and a half
match nine siwu kim out jackson coivan uh was put up against him highly talked about guy by brandon
stedeker after after play wrapped and and field of a lot of questions uh in the press conference
afterwards siwu birdied two three and four and it was not looking good for coven early but he birdied
five to cut it back to one down see within birdie the ninth to go two up but coivin birdie 12. uh to
tie it after siwu gave him the 11th as well with the bogey and then coivin went one up on 13 after
siwu uh came up short as you mentioned earlier deej then coivin stuffed it on 15 made the birdie
uh kim was even closer but he missed coivins then two up with three to play coivin did bogey 16 to
put that lead back down to one to get to 18. he club twirls it off the t after striving down the
fairway hits an iron in there does the tiger pose uh with a club twirl as well you know and and
stuffed it in there he was one up and and stuffed it in there close enough that that had pretty much
done it uh siwu had um how far did he have on 18. he had a 14 footer that he had to make and he most
definitely did not and and conceded to coivin who wins the match and completes his first president's
cup uh undefeated going two oh and one uh coivin definitively has the juice uh i think you could
we even kind of all walked away from cyprus saying that where it's not like there's big crowds it's
anything you just like watch him play and i know this is a cliche but you watch him play you're
like dang i just that guy's got it man and i don't really know how to put my finger on it but i cannot
look away from watching him play golf and i'm so glad that that has come to fruition in such a big
way not only winning on tour but also just everything he did this week because it's
awesome to watch and it was fun to watch jt being like the big brother of that of that duo
and like you know how it is when guys start finishing matches they start trickling back
and they all kind of hang in a pack and maybe they'll have a golf cart go drive them to another
match if they want jt peeled off he picked him up at 12 i think and he walked every step with
coivin the rest of the way the the whole match he was just like not leaving his side i'm locked in
he's standing there the whole time comes back up to 18 and meets back up with the rest of the team
jt's doing a lot of like i can't hear you to the crowd let's like he was it was awesome man
it was uh that was that was the bright spot of my week watching the
game and watching the game and watching the game and watching the game and watching the game and
those two together it was it was really cool that that's the kind of that i'm like why are we why are
we doing the jt like this is the only guy doing that sorry i'm with you i'm with you it was fully
cemented today and that's why i i get a lot i push back when i get just cornered as being data only
here when i'm trying to like trying to from the rooftop saying here like it's about more than that
it's about more than that it's about like the kind of that like i don't want to make the coivin
discussion a a pat on the back for jt but i just fucking love hearing actually that shit and i want
to see other guys following suit with that coivin coivin finished through the line the reports
everybody on site and from what i saw from the two practice rounds coivin was struggling in the
practice rounds he was not hitting it well he was struggling off the tee and he struggled with the
very first session um and jt had a fun nugget in there about how nervous uh coivin looked uh in
four ball that he like didn't even get his tea out of the ground and just kind of walked off without
the first tee when they were playing together and he had a bad first session and he carried jt in the
second session and he finished through the line and did absolutely everything he beat siwoo kim
today as a 21 year old in the president's cup and it's it's like when you say he's got the juice i
think there's still like a fair amount of projecting out like what he's about to be
like i don't he's not a fully formed product yet he's not it's not even as good as speed was at
age 21 but like this if if he's not going to be one of the guys i don't know who we can
project out to be in the next batch of guys for the u.s because there's no one that's like him
totally and yeah when i say that i'm not even like the juice doesn't mean you're going to win
x number of majors or whatever it's just like man who do i want to go watch right now it's that guy
like sign me up to go just stand behind the tee box and watch that guy play golf it's it's awesome
and i loved i think my favorite note of the of the presser was snedeker talking about how when they
went back to the team room yesterday and they started going through the pairings he said the
whole room exploded everybody's cheering and he's like oh my god i'm going to win this game
when they found out coivin's going up against siwu kim they're just like that everybody in that
team room like wanted to see that match like that and i mean that's like it's awesome it's good man
like that's the stuff yeah there's just not a lot of that on the u.s side we need it which that's
that's why like man there's people who are like and why why is coivin on this team or whatever
like identification of dudes and you identify him in the president's cup and you ease him in
and then now he's not going to shit his pants at it there man when he's on the first tee you know
he's got a little bit of of uh experience yeah positive experience right and i think again it's
what we said in the preview and going into thursday it's just like what if we took a risk
man what if we what if we just put a little bit of a coin in the bank for the future i'd like to
see one or two more of those risks and i think we honestly i think you saw it with bridgman too
like didn't have his best stuff earlier in the week and then gets it done today gets the
clinching point he's walking around with the w flag randy would have loved to see that just a
cubs w flag president's cup logo on it that's like kind of says more about the event than
anything i could think of but uh and the exactly uh anyways bridgman had a nice moment as well
he's up in the next match jacob bridgman versus minwoo lee bridgman won the first and third with
birdies minwoo won the fourth with the birdie that got it back to one down um but fast forward we
didn't see a lot of this match uh bridgman did miss a short putt to tie on the 15th hole to go
one down this was like last gasp we have a little bit of a chance to win this game but i think
bridgman has a little bit of life potentially minwoo lee has to win this match uh not only would
he not even tie the match he would go on to lose the match he missed a four-footer on 16 he has
seven feet on 17 to take a one-up lead um and then bridgman ends up making a putt from
three feet, eight inches on the 18th hole
to ultimately win the President's Cup for the U.S.
He was above the hole, tried to lag it short,
ends up going almost four feet by,
but makes the putt.
U.S. now has clinched up 15 and a half to 12 and a half.
Minwoo Lee is an unserious golfer.
I'm so, yes, thank you, Tron.
I'm good on Minwoo.
Everybody seems to be coming around.
We'll get there.
We'll do grades for everybody here, I promise.
Nick Taylor versus Russ Henley.
This match ends in a tie.
It wasn't a great match from what I could tell,
but again, kind of didn't see a whole heck of a lot.
There's a lot more birdies in the card than I'm giving credit.
Five birdies for Big Dick Nick.
Five birdies for each of them, it looks like.
But yeah, it was hard to get a sense of this one
just because even though these are the matches
that always end up being the most important,
they somehow always ignore matches 10, 11, 12
until the very, very end.
Nick was down.
He was two down early.
He was two down through four,
and he did not give up.
He battled back for a tie.
that's what we're about all right there was a there was a palpable like oh shit sort of feeling
when it did look when it briefly kind of looked like it was going to flip international just
seeing russ henley back there starting to think about beth page there was a lot of people that
were like damn man like put him in that spot that's that's okay let's see and russ to his
credit held together pretty well yeah final match xander shoffley uh against ryan the great man
fox it was all xander early he got to three up through nine um then he made it got it all about
a four up with a par on 14 xander had a putt from four feet nine inches to win the president's cup
on 16 uh but missed it low uh missed his chance to to be the clinchy point but ended up winning
the match two and one uh ultimately um and that was the 11th point that put it 16 and a half to
12 and a half uh and that was all 12 matches from today needed a bit more from the open goal for the
year i know foxy
just he didn't have it in the front nine it cost him and and uh complicated week for foxy
feel like he had good vibes with with minwoo we'll get into grades and all that but um you know yeah
it was it was a weird pairing with adam adam scott and then expected more out of him in the anchor
match today and i think we are you know slightly downplaying the the probability that the
internationals could have won this just because we're a little bored with the u.s winning this
on repeat like there was a shot but i think it was a good match and i think it was a good match
today there was a very real shot in in large and in no small part i know the data the probability
whatever only says that sneds is snafus with the order would maybe maximum amount to like a one
percent change in probability but i don't if it very well could have come down to one percent
probability uh and chance at the very end and it didn't but it very well could have and um i don't
know i just i don't know why you wouldn't do everything in your power to increase the possibility
um you know of of of the mat of the comeback that you needed they got it um but i don't know why you
would kind of kind of throw math out the window because anything you can do to to lead to greater
possibilities of what you should be targeting that's what our friends at at&t do and they do
that through a network that keeps people meaningfully connected to those who matter most
friends family and more so the moments that matter feel closer and clearer because it's not just about
being more connected it's about being better connected wherever life takes you when the
connection matters it has to be at&t to find out more head to att.com backslash connect to change
at&t connecting changes not my best guys i'm a little i'm a little that was good so i picked
that one up i went five sessions two putt from there i think that's good uh i will say i can
stream youtube tv out on the golf course this week thanks to our friends at at&t that was the
best perception i've ever had on a course uh so i got three i got three things in my notebook
that i want to i want to go through before we uh before we get too far the first is uh the first
which was i i hung out there for a good bit this morning uh i was parked on a shuttle just kind of
grant full ground stop when when the big man uh flew into town uh so i did not see the the 30
second speech uh heard it was rousing but the i mean props to roll up for there were rumors that
it was going to be 10 15 like reports that it was going to be like 50 wanted to talk for 15 minutes
yeah and so for him and i mean roll up hung out he babysat him all day can't imagine what they
were talking about they were there just hours hours just those two and that kind of brings me
to my second point which was going to be uh we've done a lot on these on these team shows and kind
of post-mortems about like what's the first t atmosphere what's it supposed to be like what's
it not supposed to be like they've just fully given up on any kind of like crowd singing any
any kind of like
organic juice and i think they've just hit the faders and just they've just blown them away with
music which which it was i thought it was effective honestly it was it was pretty effective it was for
for about half the matches people kind of trickled out after that once they saw some of the some of
the heavy you know heavy names but uh i was just kind of that was the first like big team event
that i've been to that it's just like now we're just gonna we're just gonna blow you away with
just sheer decibels uh and that was interesting
i thought uh two uh i want to give a shout out to uh who i have to assume was jacob bridgman's dad
looked like jacob bridgman and also he was wearing one of the jerseys like the uh with the player's
name on the back he had the bridgman 26 uh jersey on and uh what i hope it's his dad i i have to i
really hope it was his dad he was inside the ropes i think it was uh but it was a very sweet moment
where i was talking about like being right next to 15 green
16t jacob hits in that back bunker on 16 uh like down a ways away from where we're standing and
he's like so nervous he's about to just like lose it he's just by himself i'm sure the rest of jacob's
family is somewhere else he's just by himself and he just gets in with this like group of american
fans and they're watching to see if he's gonna like have this big par save to kind of keep this
thing close keep it going keep it tight whatever uh and he cashes it and this like clearly like
very stoic guy just explodes with emotion he's high-fiving all these american fans all these
american fans are like holy that's his dad that's crazy and he just he like catches himself
he goes i hope you all have a great day i hope you have a great day i hope you have a great day
and then he turned off and he just walked away by himself and it was like i was like
that's really cool that's you know you don't get to see that on tv that was that was really great
and number three thing in my notebook and i love this so much sorry that i'm going to give this uh
our yeti coldest moment of the week uh you guys told me go find a yeti's coldest moment i i got
you uh 12 t i'm sorry 12 green i'm standing there uh you know comeback is kind of on everything's
looking pretty good a lot of red on the board fans are kind of starting to wake up everybody's had
their second third cocktail and there's this volunteer who's kind of like walking you guys
were there that that ridge line up by 13 t right there's like kind of a natural
amphitheater there and this volunteer is kind of walking along this ridge line
and he hears the crowd kind of start to like perk up a little bit
and i think maybe he thought they're they're seeing him and so he kind of looks up and he kind
of kind of hits him with one of these like i can't i can't hear you crowd just goes nuts they're
losing it and he does he does it again and then he looks behind and he sees it's because windom is on
uh hyping everybody up from down there uh and it was just directly behind him uh all time
how did he react all time uh i think it was just kind of like keep going and you know just kind of
a yeah pretend nobody nobody saw that sort of situation but uh it just that really made my day
i'm sorry i'll pick it up from here drinkware cooler bags cooking cases and storage yeti has it
plenty of options to customize find more at yeti.com oh my god i had the thought for a second
am i am i the needle it was like it was like watching the lord of the rings or something and
watching somebody be corrupted by the power of just like putting this rig on their finger like
i see this is you're telling me this is what power feels like uh and he just he just bit full full
sinker i think there was maybe something in the water over there in that area because there was a
uh security guard volunteer uh manning the bridge the the north side of the bridge over by 12 green
there and this guy was so drunk with power i mean he was like he made one of the u.s team wives cry
because he wouldn't he wouldn't let her inside the ropes even though she had an inside the ropes badge
he was yelling at people to get back even though they were like 10 feet clear of the rope line it
was it was bad so
you know always a few of those those power drunk volunteers but at a place like medina that has
three choke point bridges like sure they are they are like napoleon i mean they are just put in this
in this uh position that they can really clog things up yeah uh yeah a lot of
a lot of choke points today especially with uh with the big man on the first tee it was
yeah how was the secret service uh they were they were wonderful everybody was
a total pro uh you know it's like if you're gonna cause a problem that's that's very much
gonna be on you when someone's like you can't cross right now i'm like
like yeah you got it man i hear you sounds good i'll be right here i am not doing anything do you
know my podcaster do you understand yeah where i'm trying to get right now yeah no well i know that
i know that applies to everybody else but like i don't know if that applies come on come on no it
was uh did you talk to any of them uh yeah i talked to one just kind of one of those situations
like hey man i'm just i saw a great friend of mine on the other side of the t-box i'm like hey
no big deal just need to i just need to jump across the t is that is that okay like nope can't
cross right now i'm like all right cool i get it sounds good and uh he's like yeah you know we need
he's like maybe once uh once our man gets out of here we'll let you cross i was like
no worries just forget it i'll probably see him later it's all it's all good asked and answered
yeah all right let's go for the highlight here let's do player grades we do not need to linger
on these unless you got a case you really want to state
on a
certain guy uh we can we can go rather quickly i will be providing records and for context only
their strokes gain total for the week you can do whatever the hell you want with that obvious
disclaimer always with strokes gain there's always some noise especially to the downs that the uh
there's noise to the downside of it there's not noise to the upside if you gain 10 shots you just
played better golf than everybody else uh and there's there's notes to be had with that are we
doing great inflation or no
you're on your own grade system randy you can see are you doing great inflation
uh i'll i'll be tracking it okay all right um scotty scheffler for the u.s went three and one
uh he was he gained 2.45 shots overall
deej c plus
b minus c minus c
okay i think i just i we're not lingering let's keep moving i think that speaks for itself three
and one great get favorable matchups was on the lucky side of the draw for a lot of that putter
let him down not what we needed out of scotty cameron young three and two best sportsmanship
we've ever seen yes cameron young three and two plus 10.57 shots gained uh of note that was number
one and number one the u.s side by far number one and number two and number three and number four
in the entire event.
A-plus.
A-minus.
Lost twice.
Yeah, I'll say A-minus.
I think A-minus as well.
Well, it's good.
You got all hot on the strokes game there, TC,
after you said you weren't going to.
No, I got hot just on the message that he sent today.
Yeah.
Wyndham Clark.
This is an interesting one.
One and four, positive six shots.
I don't know what to do here.
I don't want to go first.
I'm going to give Wyndham a B-plus.
I think Wyndham was like the heart and soul of this team.
Dude, I agree.
I agree with you.
And it was, I mean, I'm sure this came through on TV as well,
but, like, the fans, they cheer Wyndham.
They were, I think he got the biggest cheer on the first tee today,
straight up.
I think they loved riding for him.
They loved what he had going.
He was riling up the rest of the team.
Totally kind of like a 180 from what we saw three months ago.
It's just nuts.
I like B-plus, TC.
I'm with you.
I like B-plus.
I know.
It's crazy.
D-plus.
Play better.
Hell yeah.
Randy, that's irresponsible.
He went one and four.
Mr. Randy.
You're as big an eye test guy as anybody.
He got Sam Burns stunk in the afternoon.
I was even with him yesterday in foursomes.
Big spot today.
Big spot against the internationals best, and he got beat.
It was one of those, like, we have the watch kind of things,
where, like, he got them to where they were.
Without him, they wouldn't have been sniffing three points down, even.
Well, no, you can't say that.
Without him, they would have been one point worse.
Like, literally.
No, but he was the fabric.
He was the glue, man.
Yeah.
A little bit better as an ass captain.
Clark was the best player in the first match on Thursday.
Four balls.
They won that one.
That was the only one that he won.
Friday foursomes, when everyone got boomfed on, he was a little bit better than Colin.
That was a very good match.
Min Woo Lee and Ryan Fox played excellent, excellent golf.
That was probably one of the highlight matches of the President's Cup,
and they lost that one one down.
They lost two and one to Siwoo Kim and Tom Kim.
He was the best.
Not great in Saturday four balls, but was still good.
Like, was still, like, positive strokes gained in that session.
And then in foursomes, he was the stronger one by far.
Burns let him down big, big time.
They lost that one three and two.
Singles, he was pretty neutral.
Not really a lot to glean from that other than he also went up against the best player in the field today.
So, excuse making for Wyndham if you want.
Look, we do not have a big record of supporting Wyndham Clark.
I think he understands the assignment.
Seems to be a great team.
Mate brought energy.
Looked like he was having fun and played relatively good golf.
I was team Wyndham this week, and I'm in on him for a dare.
And it's not just, like, a camera thing either.
I mean, I think, like, watching him in between holes, watching him with his teammates,
like, I think he genuinely was having a great time this week.
And it made me happy to see you as a dub respecter, which I know you guys know.
And let me just say, I'm happy for him that he was doing all that stuff.
But we will not be ignoring one and four.
Okay, that's fine.
That's fine.
Sam Burns, two and three, negative 1.22 strokes.
I don't know what to do, Sam Burns.
I know.
Because before yesterday's afternoon's foursomes, I would have given a very good grade.
I know, same.
I feel like. I'm going to give him a B minus.
I feel like he kind of babysat Scotty a little bit.
I had C in my head.
I'll go with that.
It feels better.
But I think he would have been done a better service by sitting yesterday afternoon.
But it was hard because he played so well in the morning.
Like, if he sits tomorrow, yesterday afternoon, I wouldn't have been surprised if he would have came out and won again today.
It's an imaginary situation I just made up in my head.
I know it's probably not fair to go into grading.
That would count as lingering, Solly.
We're not lingering.
Okay, B minus.
Randy?
B minus.
Yeah, totally average.
I'll give him a C.
People are going to hate the B- there,
but I still think Sam Burns is very good at golf.
Russell Henley, 0-2-1, negative 3.22.
D-.
D for me.
D sounds great.
I'm good.
Oh, God.
I like Russ.
Russ, if you ever listen to this, this is not personal,
but I am going to fail you, and we're good on Russ on team events, I think.
I'm good.
I think you're right.
I think you're right, Randy.
Morikawa, 2-2, plus 1.09.
Weird one.
I'm giving a lot of Cs, but, I mean, I think it's a C.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, so I'm going to go the other way.
I'm going to give Colin a B-
because I thought his match was very critical today,
and I thought he hit some big shots, made some putts.
Like, I thought that was a very important point that he won against Hideki.
Okay.
I also thought he was one of the best.
That's one of the reasons that they were in the muck and the mire
that they found themselves in.
I'll go C-plus there.
Chris, this one's interesting.
Chris got up 3-1, plus 1.86.
A-minus.
Rookie effort.
Doing what we need.
I think maybe not a great pairing in that first session with PC.
But, man, once they got him with Cam Young,
he just looked like he was the world-beater.
Yeah, that one was strange, Deej.
I still don't understand that pairing from an energy perspective.
That almost seemed like there was an error in the test question, though.
That's where I'm like, we can't penalize him for that.
Yeah, that's fair.
I think he was taking the class pass-fail.
I passed him, and I want to see him at Adair Manor.
I'll say B, just in that. The ball striking was not good.
Like, the putter saved him great.
I'd like to see him be the ball hitter that he is.
And he got it out a great record.
I think things did fall his way very well.
He had made a ton of great putts at the end of that four-ball match,
but it was Cam Young that owned that four-ball match
and helped carry that 3-1 record.
So I want to be in on this.
I expected a little bit better golf out of Goddard up.
Like, T to green, that's kind of what he's there for.
And for that reason, I can't give him too much of a good grade.
I feel like I've got to explain that a little bit.
I feel like he played well with his B or C game, though.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah, that's why I give him. Yeah, I'm going to give him a C.
A little bit of cotton candy in that 3-1 record for me.
You know, even his singles match.
I want to see him at Adair.
I'm just not convinced he's a dude.
We labeled him a dude earlier.
I think he's a dude in waiting still in team events.
I'm not there with him.
And Randy, I'd like to correct it.
I'm going to correct the record.
I hope what I meant to say. I hope I said what I meant to say, which is he needs. A potential Ryder Cup dude.
I don't think he's a dude now, but we need him to be a Ryder Cup dude.
You got yourself a damn deal.
Justin Thomas, 2-1-1, negative five strokes gained.
So sick.
Two and a half points, big team guy.
I'm giving him a B+.
I give him a B.
I'll say B because he was that bad yesterday when we needed him,
but he was that good elsewhere.
And the intangible is obviously off the charts.
I don't think I'd be lowest here, but I'm B-.
There's something to. You were slurping him pretty hard this week.
I mean, he was incredible on Thursday.
And I think he's still a massive fabric of the team.
And I think he's the greatest team record.
And I think he's the greatest team record in U.S. history across these two events
in terms of wins above replacements or points above replacement.
Like, he's played in every team event.
Is that Fangraphs or Baseball Reference?
You know who that is coming from.
Is he getting defensively fluffed here too?
There's nothing in that other than literally winning points, Randy.
This should be your favorite system of all time.
No, no, that's why I gave him a B+.
Yeah.
He's played in every team event except the 2024 President's Cup.
And he's only had a losing record once.
That was the 2023.
He's either held serve for his points or been a positive for every U.S. team he's played for
other than Rome, where he got saddled with speed and he went one and two.
So, he's just keep running him out there.
I think he is a big part of any road victory you're ever going to have
is going to come with him playing good golf in it.
So, did not have his best stuff in the middle of this tournament.
That's not. Not to be debated, but I'm still team JT.
Xander, two and two.
Negative 0.47.
So, almost kind of neutral in strokes gained.
I give him. You know what?
I think that was a massive one yesterday afternoon.
Him and Cantlay.
Him and Cantlay.
That was a huge dub that they had over Siwu and Tom.
Going out first in the afternoon yesterday.
I think that was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was absolutely essential.
And then locking the firewall today, too.
You know, just kind of being the stopper that you needed.
I know I wanted to. I wanted to go lower, but you're bringing me up.
I'll say B-minus.
B-minus.
Probably.
Yeah.
Because I think of the expectations of kind of who you need him to be,
want him to be.
And he wasn't quite there, but he was very, very serviceable
and additive, like you said, TC.
I do think this is hopefully the end of. I think this is probably the end of Xander-Cantlay pairing.
Or a feeling that it has to be a pairing automatically.
Because I think Xander and Cantlay have good components and parts
that I just don't think we. That is not the same version of the 2021 version of them.
And. It's just frustrating that we see them in both foursomes and four balls as well.
Yeah.
They toss them out there.
We didn't this time around, though.
They sat for four ball on Saturday morning.
And Friday, Cantlay played with Goddard up.
Oh, okay.
You're right.
Yeah.
They played foursomes together, but not foursomes.
Four ball.
You're right.
I'll give him a B.
Okay.
Cantlay, 2-2, plus 1.48.
I'll go B.
Pretty similar.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, word for word, similar.
Yeah.
I think. You know, I'm going to give him a B-
because I think he had a negative impact on the youth.
On Goddard.
And potentially on Coivin.
TC, I'll follow you there.
Potentially on Coivin?
What?
Yeah, just by association.
Just proxy.
Okay.
Yeah, just. You don't need that energy around.
I know he had his big fist pump and shit today, but. Pat, just take it all away.
It's not who we want the kids hanging out with.
You know, we need to find a better friend group.
Jackson, Coivin, 2-0-1, plus 0.17.
A.
Well, it's not an A-plus because of that Thursday start.
Yeah.
I'll go B-plus.
A-minus.
A-minus.
B-plus?
I mean, it was a bad Thursday.
He sat and he only played four. I mean, he didn't go five.
He didn't go four.
He's 21.
No, you can't just give. He's a baby.
Just because he's an underclassman doesn't mean you just give him free points.
Like. Doogie Howser.
He didn't do great on the first. He aced the final two exams, but the first exam didn't. It weighs the grade down a little bit.
It can't be an A.
I think today was weighted heavily.
The final is at least 50% of the grade.
Yeah, that brought him all the way up.
To B-plus.
Jacob Bridgman, 1-2, negative 0.42.
Incomplete.
Incomplete.
I totally agree.
Yeah.
Totally agree.
They didn't allow him to show off his skills.
They didn't give him a pencil for one of the. Yeah.
A lot of people don't have maps, do you see?
Randy, you're going to fail him.
But when he shows up for class, I love what I'm seeing.
I love what I'm seeing.
I don't know.
One and two.
Very forgettable.
I'm going to give him a D-plus.
The Euros would have given him an A-plus because he clinched the winning point.
That's true.
He was in the Hall of Famer.
Yeah.
He got to captain a team.
Exactly.
Because he's six Hall of Fame points on the LPGA.
All right.
Internationals.
Siwoo Kim, 3-2, plus 4.3.
3-5, A-minus for me.
A-minus.
Yeah.
This one's tough because he lost his singles match.
And it was kind of right there at the crux of things.
I'll go B-plus for Siwoo.
B-plus, but he's going to win one of those awards that they give out.
Those subjective awards.
Like a yearbook award?
Silver Slugger?
Yeah.
Or like, hey, this guy did a bunch of community service,
and he mentored other students in his class,
and went inside with kids at lunch that didn't have any friends.
He's doing it all.
Hideki Matsuyama, 2-2, negative 0.53.
C-plus.
C.
I'm not lingering.
D.
Okay.
Shit the bed today.
Great man, question mark.
Foxy, 2-2, minus 0.86.
C.
Maybe C-minus.
Yeah, give him a C-minus for me.
Yeah.
I mean, I think Foxy would give himself an F,
because that's the kind of guy that he is.
An F is for Fox.
I'll say C-plus in some good moments.
I'm going to give him an F, but it's for Fox.
It's not fair or fail.
So let the record show that we did.
I'm giving him an F, because that's who we needed on that team.
He didn't quite get all the way there, but he was still himself, T.C.
Therefore, he gets an F.
Next up is Tom Kim, 4-1, plus 2.18.
A-plus.
A-plus.
Plus.
Yeah.
He gets an F.
Like valedictorian.
Thank you, T.C.
Magnet can allow that.
I was just going to say that.
Yes.
Top of the class.
Minwoo Lee, 2-2-1, negative 3.36.
He got kicked out of class.
He's goofing around.
We have expelled him.
I give him a C.
Got his certificate over at the community college down the street.
D, I'm so out on Minwoo.
D.
Yeah, D.
There's just not a lot of substance there.
They lost Thursday four-ball to Scottie and Sam.
No harm in that.
He played good.
Minwoo Lee sucked ass.
It was a very good match.
Yeah, yeah.
Friday foursomes.
He and Hideki beat Henley and Bridgman.
And he was great, and Hideki sucked.
Yeah.
Saturday four-ball, he and Minwoo tied JT and Koivin.
Minwoo sucked really bad in that.
And Sungjae was the best player in that match.
And then they got their doors.
Adam Scott and Sungjae got their doors blown off by Cam and Gotterup.
Yeah, he was not great in that.
I'll give him a B.
I give him an A.
I think it was excellent, excellent golf.
B-plus for me.
I'm receiving where we're lingering.
Okay.
Nico Echevarria, 0-2, negative 8.52.
That is going to be a fail.
This is not the class for you, my man.
Yeah, it's not your fault.
Yeah, you're going to get to try again next year.
Yeah, that's great.
I'm not even sure this is the school for him.
Corey Connors, 2-3, negative 6.02.
Really weighted by a very, very bad single session.
Yeah.
That's just super weighted.
Doesn't get a report card.
He got expelled.
I'm not going to go that far.
He played some good golf in those team sessions with Taylor.
I'll say C-minus.
I like C-minus.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's great information.
C-minus.
Come on.
Nick Taylor, 2-1-1, plus 0.38.
B-plus?
Yeah, B.
Go B.
Yeah.
Hit the shots.
Yeah.
It's good moments.
Would I give Sungjae B-plus?
I got to give Nick lower than that.
Yeah.
We'll go B-minus.
That's not fair.
B.
B.
We didn't expect much from him.
He exceeded expectation.
Christian Bezadenhout, 1-1, negative 5.5.
This guy was like, were you enrolled here?
Did you finish?
Yeah.
I think he got sick, and then he ended up just doing stuff from home.
Well, he just missed a lot of class.
It's like I didn't get to see him out there.
He's that guy in my dreams where I always wake up, and I'm like,
I forgot to drop the class.
Oh, crap.
I've been still enrolled in this class all year.
F.
Yeah.
D.
D.
Yeah, I guess.
He did get a point.
Yeah, give him a D.
You can give him an F.
He got a point.
He only played twice.
That's kind of disqualifying in and of itself.
Yeah.
He was so bad in that match, though.
No, he gets an F.
He failed.
Ryo Hisatsune.
One and two, negative 3.42.
He was so bad in that match, and they beat JT and Cam Young.
JT was really bad in that match.
Didn't see it a lot from my guy.
D plus.
Yeah.
I'll say C minus.
I thought they were going to roll him out.
I love having him in class, by the way.
Great personality.
I think he was like an exchange dude.
He was here for a year.
I'm not sure we're ever going to see him again, but I guess we did have some memories.
I would have liked to have seen him in a four-ball session, too.
They only played in foursomes with Tadecki there, and then he got off to a good start today, too.
I like watching him play golf.
Totally.
I'm going to give him a C minus.
I want to see him come to office hours, though.
Okay.
Yeah.
The captains.
Brant Snedeker.
I might give him an F.
I feel like he'd give himself an F, so what am I supposed to do?
Can you do an F plus?
A D minus, I think, would still be too high.
I'll give him an F.
I'll give him an F.
He was talking on Saturday night like they had lost the fucking cup.
This might have been a true pass-fail, and I guess he passed, technically.
That's how I feel.
That's how I feel.
I don't think I can get there giving him an F.
They did win.
You have to say that.
But I'll give him a pass.
I think it's a skin of his teeth.
Failure because the process was all wrong.
You didn't show your work.
You might have gotten a couple right answers in there, but you didn't show the work of the calculus at all.
He did all A's on the Scantron.
Cody had a good point in that.
He was grateful it was a group project.
Yes.
I think if it was individual, it was a group project.
If it was individual grades, it wouldn't have gone so well.
The rest of the group gets different.
He did hitch himself to the right squad.
Did he even. He chose his group of ass captains, though.
Did he even choose the right group on that front?
Jeff Ogilvie.
I would give Jeff a B.
At least.
I thought he did a great job.
Maybe an A-.
I'm just laughing at the idea of giving the winning captain a B.
I'm just laughing at the idea of giving the winning captain an F
and the losing captain an A-.
Did you see the teams?
No, I know.
Get Christian Poseidon home.
I know.
I'm with you.
And he helped design this beautiful venue, too.
I thought he was great.
He's fine.
He almost did it.
He did it during the team part, too.
And just when he looked at the lineup, there was just nothing to be done about singles.
And it just seemed like they were having fun, too.
It seemed like they were vibing.
And it was a good atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the crew.
There was confidence there.
Yeah.
Anything else you want to dump from the notebook here?
I know we have a lot of content from this past President's Cup.
And I think I feel pretty well documented on a lot of it.
Just wondering if you guys think there's anything we've missed.
I can't think of a thing.
I think we've turned over every stone.
I'm legitimately excited for Kingston Heath.
I think it'll be great.
I do agree.
Excited to see it.
Yeah.
I also think, like, all right, if you totally allowed the internationals to their own devices
and said, all right, you know what, we're going to let the, let's say the R&A helps manage that team
or the DP World Tour or something, you know, someone like that.
You get it outside of Ponte Vedra, right?
You give them their own focused silo.
And you let Cam Smith and you let some of these other guys play.
I do think that's a different result this week.
Like, I know, you know, a lot of people were saying, hey, that's not going to make up the difference between, like, the gap in talent and skill and, you know, just dudes.
But I think if you had Lucas Herbert and Cam Smith and some of those guys in lieu of Pez or Pico, yeah, like that.
I think there's something there, which I feel like we were all shortchanged on that this week.
Agree.
Which is where, yeah, again, a lot of this is like, don't forget who organizes this tournament.
It's kind of a large takeaway.
It's not equal footing.
It's like the, TZ, your point, I mean, this is almost like my lasting kind of takeaway is like, they haven't done one of these in Japan, man, is where it becomes like, what are we actually trying to do here?
What are we actually trying to get out?
We're going back to Royal Montreal again.
Yeah.
And it's like, man, yeah, as soon as you just say it like that and see it like that, especially with the makeup of the teams and gone to Korea one time, it's just like, it just starts to feel unserious, like pretty, pretty, pretty much.
And it could be, could be better, I think.
Love the Australian ones, though.
That's the, they've 11, I mean, 11 was awesome watching.
I remember back in the day, it like got me.
It was a Kickstarter for me getting like back into golf very seriously.
I think just watching that at night at Royal Melbourne 2019 was incredible with the crowds as well.
And I have no reason to believe Kingston Heath won't be a banger.
Like, I think, I think we can avoid a lot of the discussions around the silliness of the President's Cup into the next one.
Like a road ones are more interesting and Australian venues are going to bring out different style of play.
That's going to make it a closed competition.
And I wouldn't be surprised at all if the internationals won with, you know, live knock on wood.
Potentially going away, guys will serve suspensions for, for 2027, get back to a more global inclusion in the PGA Tour in 2028 and have a stronger team and a home environment and golf course and match play format that should fit them very well.
I think it, we, we could be looking for this streak to break in 28.
I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Like if the positive thing about this event is that it gets us to Australia once every eight years, like I'll take it.
That's worth the sacrifice.
Yeah.
I, well, just last thing, you know, talking about not going to Japan as a venue, like would like to see a Korean Japanese person as captain one day too.
I feel like that's another area where we can do a little bit better representing like what, what this international group is supposed to be.
Yeah.
Agree.
The only thing I was going to say is that obviously the, you know, Asian looking at locations there, that's kind of like.
Like a no brainer for what the future is, but like through the history of this president's cup.
the strong representation that they've had from central and south america and that that hasn't
even come up at all considering the amount of money that like 100 dj tour actually puts into
south america like they had their own tour there for a long time and it never came up to be like
man like couldn't even look at the jockey club or or the fucking because there's no sponsorships
man like it's all money right and the argentine economy is not strong and so they're just not
going to do that i think the other thing that that bugs me about this team and i think it's a
it's a there's like a a silhouette like a silhouette of like a missing person there
is how tong lee yeah if how tong lee wasn't just like a that probably is not walking through that
door tc like it sounds like he just might be like a space cadet moron who just can't
keep between the rails on this stuff which i think we're all
poor for that too because he was he was hilarious on these scenes now it's great now like i don't know
if the captains thought he was hilarious wouldn't even bring like a real caddy but
he's fucking talented and he should be getting better
uh anything else from around the world of golf that you want to shout tc
uh we had a pretty good french open um we had uh matt fitzpatrick ran away with that one i
watched a little bit of that in the mornings um when the when the p cup wasn't on especially on
thursday and friday so um it was some some good viewing uh gene chikara was was in the mix
today until a stumble on 13 michael kim finished t7 backed up his his win there last year with a
good good finish ludwig t11 ryan gerrard t14 i thought for sure he was going to go out and win
that thing uh after after getting snubbed here but um they made some changes to the golf national
i think to accommodate like a subway line
that was going in place is hard man it's like a proper pro golf venue i like it doesn't look
pleasant doesn't look enjoyable but i think it identifies who can hit the shots um on the flip
side of things it was lpga was in northwest arkansas at a course that i don't think has ever
come close to identifying who can hit the shots uh yuna nishimura shot 63 63 66 go 21
under through three rounds and win by five uh and of course lauren cogland another shout out to her
for her nine birdies in a row uh on her front nine on saturday uh just to make the cut really
so ended up shooting 61 her her lowest ever and i believe it's her birthday today so happy birthday
happy birthday birthday lc and then just been sorry the lpga the the it's one of those 54
hole events that kind of weird i don't quite know why we're still doing that uh
they gotta figure something out with this event with the news suck yeah and it's got good support
like it seems like a good event just yeah four rounds let's yeah let's take it to a more difficult
golf course or something yeah uh the u.s mid mid pro or mid-am or whatever they're having up it
up at uh it's glad it's sand valley uh i kind of wish there was like a live feed of that because
