The transcript blends personal experiences with political critique, highlighting Carvana’s seamless online car-buying and delivery service, and BJ’s Wholesale Club’s value-driven savings offerings. It centers on Ben Mycelis’s critique of U.S. political figures, particularly J.D. Vance and Donald Trump, whose behavior he describes as manipulative, inconsistent, and morally corrupt. He argues that their actions—such as fabricating numbers, making morally questionable alliances, and displaying cognitive dissonance—reveal a deeper pattern of political dishonesty and dangerous disengagement from democratic norms. Mycelis traces this manipulation to a long-standing right-wing media strategy dating back to the 1970s, including Roger Ailes’ propaganda memo. He frames the rise of independent media as a vital counterforce, asserting that citizen journalists and grassroots platforms now challenge disinformation and restore public accountability. He calls for leaders to confront figures like Trump as war criminals and urges immediate, structural reforms. The discussion ends with optimism about the future of democracy, emphasizing that collective action in independent media can create a sustainable, truth-based alternative to corporate and ideological manipulation. The episode also promotes the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s mission to protect church-state separation and secular values.

You are in for a treat. Joining me today is MAGA slayer, Ben Mycelis, who has a new book
that drops today, What the Fuck America? The Way Out of This Hell and Back to Democracy. So first,
Ben, I say we rip MAGA. And then number two, you tell us about your book. How does that sound?
Sounds great.
All right. Let's start with first candidate for ripping today is J.D. Vance. Play the clip.
I have a leg to stand on when it comes to the cost of. Gasoline. So vote for the people who have solutions to lower the cost of gas.
Don't vote for the people who made the problem to begin with.
The projection, the confession, it's real. And who, I mean, one of the things I've always just
said, I always, and I talk about this in the book, just step back for a second, because
I know this often gets put through a gamified political lens. Who's up? Who's down? This side,
that side.
But we have to just reflect about these people, Trump, Vance, Hegseth, just as human beings. And
this is one of the things I just talk about a lot in the book over here, is just the behavior
is weird. It's evil. J.D. Vance has had a number of personalities over the past 15 years. He went
from a gay guy in high school who then said that he discovered that he wasn't gay because his
grandma, his mama, and his papa told him that he wasn't.
And then he became the Appalachia guy who hated Trump, hated Trump, called Trump Hitler. And then
he became the Trump guy. All these people are just such phonies, man. That's why I wake up every day
and I say, WTF? Who are these people? It's true. You know, my husband always says what's so hard
about it is watching these dorky villains get celebrated. Like people were there clapping for
J.D. Vance as he did this. All right. And here's what Trump, conversely, here's what Trump is
talking about on the campaign trail. Play this clip.
So, but I gave it in two rallies ago. And one of the questions is like,
take a number, sir. So like 49, take a number and divide it, triple it, divide it by 49,
multiply it by three, double that, divide by seven, 400, add 200,
and 93, and divide by seven. What's your number? Now, how many people would get that? I got it.
How many people would get it? Well, my uncle was the smartest scientist in the history of MIT,
they tell me. But I got it.
Okay. Ben, okay. He does this. When he's not talking about how hot he thinks men are,
which is all the time, which I called a long, long time ago, I was on the front lines of saying
this man is bisexual and or gay. And that's come to fruition.
Then he's bragging about his cognitive tests. But what do you make of the people that were
applauding him at the end of that? I mean, that's something that is really a sight to behold.
A few things. One, the homosexual disinhibition that now comes out very frequently is something
to reflect upon because with all of his other issues that we're seeing happen, that's part of
it. It's disinhibition. And there's an explanation also for it. Also, you know, when he talks about
the numbers and whatever, remember when we would get our first calculator and you would do that,
you would go 49 times three, three, three, divided by whatever. And you'd go, oh my God,
what's the number? I remember doing it with my first calculator when I was in second grade and
I was impressed by the number. But then, you know, Dr. Bandy Lee, who's a world-renowned
clinical psychiatrist and social psychiatrist, she has a explanation for this. And she describes
when you tolerate a psycho, when you tolerate someone who's severely,
severely ill, you actually become severely ill. And if you think about it, if you have a family
member, you know, that uncle or whoever it is, and you start to make excuses for that person,
you start to empathize with it, but you justify the being, oh, that's just uncle so-and-so being
uncle so-and-so. And then it becomes part of your life and the qualities that are actually deeply
disturbing. You've justified it as an endearing way,
almost a way of saying, oh, that's just uncle so-and-so being uncle so-and-so.
You've justified it as an endearing way, almost a way of saying, oh, that's just uncle
so-and-so. You've justified it as an endearing way, almost a way of saying, oh, that's just uncle so-and-so
being uncle so-and-so being uncle so-and-so
is behavior that is disgusting and it is despicable and it is vile human behavior, not as a political
critique against him, but that this is a piece of trash, vile thing. And that's what it's about.
And we've tolerated, not us, not you, we've built networks, you and I, and an independent media
community to push back on this crap. But so much corporate news treats this guy like it's just the
opposite side of Obama. Well, Obama feels this way and this guy feels this way. And this is the
Republican team. And it's like, stop, stop, stop. This is literally a crazy lunatic who's been found
civilly liable for sexual assault. Someone who's been found criminally responsible as a felon for
a business records case. Someone who's bankrupted everything and he's doing it with our country.
That's to me why we do what we do.
And also, in addition to just covering the day-to-day politics.
This episode is brought to you by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Here's what's happening
right now. The midterm election is coming up fast and church and state separation is not some dusty
civics issue. It's on the ballot in school boards, state houses, Congress, and courtrooms.
We're seeing efforts to push religion into public schools,
use public money to support religious instruction, and rewrite America's
founding as if the Constitution belongs to one faith. It clearly does not. Our godless
Constitution protects believers, non-believers, and everyone in between. And that's why the
Freedom From Religion Foundation works to keep church and state separate. FFRF also speaks up
for atheists like me and other freethinkers, agnostics, humanists, and non-religious Americans
who are too often left out of the conversation. Visit FFRF.US/IHIP or text the word IHIP to

I completely agree. And I think I agree with you. Oftentimes we don't go far enough because there aren't enough words to describe
the criminality, the insanity, the dementia, the corruption on this scale. I mean, most recently,
we have this guy who is dividing and multiplying and adding 249. I love your example of the
calculator because I did that all the time. And we have this guy who started a war with Iran at
the request of Benjamin Netanyahu. And now he is forming an alliance with the Iranians' ally,
Russia. And so in essence, this crazy man is now helping fund the opposition to a war
that he drug us into. I don't know how to describe that other than to say this man is
an absolute traitor of the highest order. He should be charged for treason. I don't know
what other words we can use. I don't think it's possible to be hyperbolic enough about those
things. It's why it frustrates me, you know, when I see even Democratic candidates who,
I potentially like, or future Democratic candidates, even when they don't talk about it
in these right terms, like you have to be talking about it right now is exactly what you said,
which is if you're going to run for office to me on the Democratic ticket, you have to say,
I'm going to turn him, Trump, Hegseth, all of them over to the Hague on day one.
They're war criminals. I'm going to treat them as war criminals. Also on day one,
I am going to live stream.
Blowing up the ballroom. I'm going to, I'm going to blow it up on live stream and anything that
has Trump's name on it on day one, there's so much else that needs to be done in restoring
trust. And it's going to take generations to do it. But on day one, those certain things have
to happen or to me, you know, it's disqualifying. Second point, one of the things that Trump has
done in addition to, you know, behaving in that way. And, and what you've seen with this media
landscape is they've rendered words to not have any meaning.
When he lies about this deal, that deal, 22 trillion, 1 trillion, right? 22 trillion is 21
trillion, more than 1 trillion. 1 trillion is a lot of billion. And when he just throws out numbers
and, and numbers don't matter and names don't matter and things don't matter. Everything is
just trickles down in a, obviously in a bad way from the fact that the position that should be
the most trustworthy or the most powerful, the most deliberate and
meticulous lies about everything. Then it almost feels like life and existence itself
is a game or a simulation or an escape room and not actual reality because there is no reality
when the commander in chief is behaving like a disgusting thief, loser, you know, psycho,
you know, every day. And then, you know, you're right. I mean, the behavior with Putin,
the behavior with Netanyahu,
the behavior that Trump engages in every day, it's the least America first thing imaginable.
And, and you watch the behavior and it's like, there's a name for this. It's called treason.
Okay. It's a traitor. And, you know, you think back to Watergate, you think back to other
scandals and what he's done and what this oligarchical media apparatus has done is render
everything meaningless, pit us against each other. So when Trump professes a love,
for Vladimir Putin and starts doing diesel deals and shutting off Starshield and Starlink to
Ukraine, it just is treated like another story in a new cycle versus a wholesale capitulation
of United States of America. He said recently he was going to pardon himself. You're a lawyer.
Can he do that? And I think he would try, but will this court, this makeup of the Supreme Court,
will they go for that? You know, you have to assume that this,
makeup of this supreme court will do whatever the worst thing is and they'll do worse than that
i mean there it's the biggest betrayal as well the moment they gave him absolute immunity
something that frankly kings in systems that have like kingdoms like that they don't get absolute
immunity you know you had andrew being investigated he doesn't get absolute immunity in the uk
you know, for, you know, for being involved in the Epstein files. But giving absolute immunity,
I can't think of anything absolutely opposite of the Constitution, like absolute immunity.
Our whole constitutional framework was created with the idea that monarchy and kings is not the
way to go. And you need to put power to the people, we the people and hold people accountable. No one
is above the law. So to me, Jen, the moment that they recognize a doctrine of absolute immunity,
the moment you know, when I think about growing up and playing, you know, video games, there was
a system called Game Genie, you would hook up to your Nintendo, and you'd put Game Genie on your
little Nintendo cassette, and you'd be able to beat all of the games because you'd have infinite
lives. And you never had to play by the rules. The moment they gave Trump Game Genie, basically,
he's out there doing whatever the hell he wants.
And so you also need to like, fundamentally, we have to recognize, you know, there are flaws in
the Constitution, big gaping gaps in the Constitution. The most gaping one of all
is that it has a take care clause that the commander in chief, the president would take care
that laws were faithfully executed, that whether we like it or not, whatever we think about the
Lindsey Graham Sanctions Act, whether it should be viewed as Lindsey Graham's name, whatever you
think about it, a
law was passed in a bipartisan way, the president takes care that the law is faithfully executed
implements the law, not issues an executive order, Friday night at 9pm, saying, I hereby waive the
law. And if you Trump's whole life has been violating good faith, he never followed contracts,
he ripped him to shreds he destroyed. And so he noticed that in the Constitution, it's all based
on good faith, that there'd be a law
that was passed, and the president would execute him, he would not execute the laws. And he would
just say, I'm just not going to follow him, what are you going to do about it, and I've got absolute
immunity. So it's a long winded answer to your question. But I think the Supreme Court has done
generational historical damage to this country. Well, let's talk about something slightly more
uplifting than that, which is the book today is released everywhere you get your books, WTF America, the way
to get out of this hell and back to democracy. Ben, give us some hopium right now.
The hopium is that we've been around for about four years. And it's a collective we I mean,
Midas touch started six years ago. But when you and I started talking to each other,
even it was like four years ago, I think about it, and look collectively at what we and when
I say we not just me and you, what this audience has built, what the people who
watch your shows build, the people who watch the Midas touch and our networks are inextricably kind
of intertwined and interwoven in this fabric of independent media. And we've always supported each
other whether not not out of a business, you know, I would always call you you can call me and we'd
always just help each other grow an independent media platform. So when Donald Trump came in here
with the oligarchs, they were spending all this money throwing it here there in order to kind of
control, you know, the media landscape. And what they didn't factor in is that citizen journalists
could become journalists and actually become the fourth estate. And that when they bent the knee
and all of these institutions broke, the people weren't going to accept it. They hoped that we
were so dependent on institutions and media, and you know, their control of the pipes that we would
you know, that we would have nowhere else to go no alternative, but we've created an alternative.
And what I trace in this book is that the origins of all this kind of right wing oligarchical media,
I mean, you can go back history about authoritarianism, which we talked about in this
book, going back to the beginning of humankind and how democracy is actually a relatively new concept,
a blip in the historical zeitgeist. But you can trace this to the 1970s with Roger Ailes memo
about creating a right wing propaganda.
The network, you can go through the 1980s with talk radio, the Rush Limbaugh's go into the 90s
with Fox, you go into the early 2000s. You see the corporate news slowly capitulating and then fully
capitulating. So they've been doing this for 60 years. We've been doing it for four to six. So to
me, a great optimistic note is look where we are right now. We're competing with them now. And so
we're competing with them now. Where can we be in 60 years? And I think that's how we have to think
when we're building these networks, when we're building these things, sometimes we get lost in
the day to day gamification of politics. Who's up, who's down, which we should
recognize is part of it. We shouldn't act like that's not a thing,
but we should think about generational structures and what we can do to create the
pro-democracy version of what we've seen poison in the future. The fountain hose of disinformation
can be confronted by the fountain hose of truth. And so I think that's a real optimistic
that things are things are actually moving structurally in the right direction but we
have to think about it structurally and we have to do our day-to-day reps but we have
to think about it structurally i love it so much i love that you and the brothers have written a
