The Morning Wire highlights a range of controversial and impactful developments in U.S. politics and technology. The Justice Department is aggressively targeting non-citizens for illegal voting, with cases spanning multiple states and a major focus on California, though legal challenges question the authority and fairness of these actions. A high-profile arrest of a well-known Trump supporter and immigrant rights advocate raises concerns about political bias in immigration enforcement. In the tech sector, Microsoft is buying out a significant portion of its workforce to fund AI investments, reflecting broader industry shifts that may threaten jobs across sectors. Simultaneously, the DOJ is investigating the removal of pro-transgender supporters from a women’s soccer match in Portland, which activists and human rights advocates say violates free speech rights. On a separate note, former FBI director James Comey faces renewed legal charges over 2016 leaks, with the defense arguing the case exceeds the statute of limitations. Meanwhile, USAFacts continues its mission to make government data accessible and trustworthy, while financial product Chime is promoted as a fee-free, inclusive banking option. These stories collectively reflect ongoing tensions around immigration, free speech, technological disruption, and transparency in governance.

The crackdown comes as yet more deportations prompt furious headlines. I'm daily wire executive editor John Bickley, Georgia Howe is off today. It's Tuesday, October 27th. This is Morning Wire. AI causes a seismic shake-up in Silicon Valley as Microsoft moves to buy out a massive percentage of its employees. It's the AI company, the tech company, internalizing the displacement of AI. And the Justice Department gets involved after a group of save women's sports supporters are kicked out of a women's soccer stadium and as Cantor Freedom joins us to discuss. This is their freedom of speech and it's our first amendment and for some reason they're just getting kicked out of the game. Plus the DOJ charges James Comey again. Thanks for waking up with Morning Wire, stay tuned. We have the news you need to know. Truth is under attack in our culture. People are embracing lies about gender. They're rejecting the sanctity of every human life and the government is even punishing people for saying what is true and right. But the biblical principles on which our country was founded still matter and they must be defended. Alliance defending freedom is on the front lines of this fight. Just a week out from the election, the Justice Department has charged dozens of foreign nationals with illegally voting or registering in U.S. elections. Meanwhile, the high profile arrest of a prominent Christian immigrant is drawing scrutiny. Dealer Wire Cultural Reporter Megan Basham joins us now with the details. So Megan, let's start with the non-citizens voting for long time Democrats and legacy media have insisted this is not a problem. The DOJ says otherwise. What did they announce? Yeah, John. Our colleague Jenny Tarr has been closely covering this story. And she reported yesterday that the DOJ is charging 48 aliens across Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, Nevada. And these cases cover illegal voting and false claims of citizenship to register to vote. Now, according to the DOJ, most of these people are green card holders. So well, they're not here in the U.S. illegally. They are not permitted to vote. But there was one illegal alien who was caught in this dragnet, a 73 year old Cuban national who is now charged with voting in the 2024 election. But just to give you a few examples of the others, they include a 72 year old bellizian who allegedly illegally registered to vote as a citizen. The Justice Department says that he voted in 2020, voted twice in 2022, and then again in 2024, later lying on his naturalization application. Another example is a California resident from Mexico who is accused of registering in 2020 and voting multiple times in 2025. And then several others allegedly voted and then falsely stated on their citizenship paperwork that they hadn't. Now, you mentioned these cases involved people from several different states, but California does seem to be at the center of the administration's broader effort, correct? Yeah, that's right, John. The Justice Department wants California to verify roughly 20,000 registrations that it has flagged as potentially belonging to non-citizens. And they also want California to set aside any associated ballots until they can be confirmed. So this was what acting deputy attorney general Trent McHotter told Fox News on Sunday. We've already charged 28 people for illegally voting who are not US citizens. We've got the lawsuit going right now to try to prevent that very scenario from playing out again. Our argument, our lawyers are actually arguing this afternoon. In court, you heard me right, arguing on a Sunday afternoon to try to get a federal court to block California from continuing to count the votes of non-citizens. But California is pushing back. They say that this list is unreliable and that it could include eligible voters. So during a Sunday hearing, federal appeals judges questioned whether the administration has legal authority here and whether the appeals court should intervene before a lower court hearing that's scheduled for today. So we'll look for the results of that hearing. In the meantime, there's been a surprising arrest involving a well-known Christian commentator and a Trump supporter, Samuel, say, what's going on there? Yeah, John. So full disclosure, I do know, say, I have spoken at TPUSA events alongside him. He was born in Ghana, but immigrated from Canada. And this really blindsided a lot of people because he is well-known for not just being a Trump supporter, but also being a strong supporter of ICE. I can tell you that as an immigrant, I fully support ICE. And just so you know, I'm still in the middle of a part of my immigration process, just, you know, hearing the U.S. coming from Canada to the U.S. But guys, even without Christian ethics, which is very clear on the issue of affirming borders, but immigration is not a right. It's a privilege. So he was arrested at the Columbus Airport on Sunday and DHS gave me a statement saying that while he did enter legally in 2020, he overstayed his visa and has no pending applications. And so they say he is going to be deported. But in a statement on Monday, his wife, who is a U.S. born citizen, said that he had been working toward permanent legal status. And they say they don't know what happened here. But she said the family is pursuing a resolution through the legal process. And she also said that their support for immigration enforcement has not changed despite says arrest. So I think we can say at the very least, it's hard to argue that the Trump administration is wielding its immigration policy in a politically biased way here, given that they are also detaining known Trump supporters. Indeed, and in a pretty high profile case, like we said, Megan, thanks so much for reporting. Yeah, my pleasure, John. A trip to the grocery store can be a pretty humbling experience these days. It only takes a few minutes. Microsoft is offering to buy out over a quarter of its workforce in an attempt to fund the company's AI investments. Here to break down a series of big tech bombshells is Satya Thalam, a senior fellow at the Foundation for American Innovation. Thanks for coming on. Thank you so much for having me. There's always so much news to cover isn't there in the text base. There is. It's overwhelming. Let's start with this Microsoft buy out. How is this part of it's long-term vision and then how big of a deal is this? Let's take the second part first. I think, especially for your viewers, you think, well, a tech company doing tech company stuff and they're laying folks off to adopt AI. I know you've heard from tons of people worried about what does this mean for my job? I don't work in the tech sector. I work in a normal job. I'm an accountant. I'm a a lawyer. Maybe I have a small business. What does it mean? Is it real?
really going to lead to mass layoffs. I'm not saying that, but this is the first step of what that looks like. The fact that Microsoft feels they need to get more runway, more capital space in order to invest in their AI outgrowth. That's the first sort of node of where that happens. And I think you'll see that with non-quote tech companies doing that for their own labor force. Like you said, so many people fearing this is coming for them, no matter what industry you're in. Here we're seeing it play out first hand. Now, meta is also making headlines over AI. They're raising a record of $95 billion through equity for their goals. Now, at the same time, these large investments are happening. The public seems concerned about an AI bubble bursting. What's driving the investments and is this kind of panic valid? It's part of my nature to kind of always think some panic is valid. I think that's a survival instinct for our species. Probably was. But the funny thing to put it this in context of bubbles, historic bubbles, things that we looked back in the past and we say, well, that was obviously over-invested. It doesn't mean that it was based on a scam or that there wasn't some real technology or infrastructure that was being built out. You know, one of the main contributing factors to the market crash in 1929 that ultimately contributed to the great depression was over-speculation in railroads. But I don't think anyone would look back and say, well, railroads were just a scam. No, they were after the fact a critical part of our national expansion, of our industrialization. But even productive investments, even technologies that are real that have real benefits can attract a little too much optimism that ends up people in over-investing them. I think it's hard to say ahead of time is Meta's move, is Microsoft's move, is OpenAI, is this upcoming Anthropic IPO, is this evidence of capital that probably shouldn't have gone to those purposes? It's impossible to tell ahead of time, but this is the same story as Microsoft. They're saying we are going all in, even Meta, which is pretty well capitalized, has access to the debt markets at pretty low rates, is saying with interest rates where they are, we're going to go in on equity to make these AI bets. You know, like you said, and you're competing with other major entities, so it might be a wise investment, but you might lose on the competition side of this. How do you gauge it possibly? So you brought up the Anthropic IPO. I did want to ask you about that. This is a potentially historic number that we're looking at. What are people expecting out of this Anthropic IPO? I think whether it breaks the record or not, it absolutely will be historic IPO. So I don't think there's any doubt about that. It's just about the exact number, whether it beats SpaceX by a literal or a lot. This is a really, if you go back a few years when Anthropic was founded, part of the reason was these were expats from OpenAI, who didn't like the profit motive, seeking into that particular company's ethos and operations, and were worried that OpenAI would go from a public benefit corporation, which is a kind of a non-profits, a little squishy into a full stock public private company, and now Anthropic's gonna beat them to the punch. There's a little bit of irony there. - Well, like you said, a lot going on on the big tech front all the time now. So I'm sure we'll have you back on to talk about the next major development, Sadia. Thank you so much for coming on. - I really appreciate it, thank you. - Over 20 fans were kicked out of a soccer game in Portland this weekend after a clash between pro transgender and pro women demonstrators, but the fans escorted off the premises, only came from one side. Joining us now in studio is NBA star and human rights activists in his cantor freedom. Thanks for coming back on. - Thank you for having me, I appreciate that. - So we have another one of these clashes with the Save Women sports activists and transgender activists. What exactly happened in Portland this weekend? - I mean, this is against our freedom of speech, and they were just simply put a t-shirt on, which it says XXXY, and then for some reason the fans didn't like it. So the thing is now the DOJs involved and how they got kicked out of the game was unacceptable because they were simply there to just wash the game peacefully. I can't really compare this what happened to me exactly. I was just there to wash the game and they just kicked me out because my t-shirt was defined in what is a woman. So I think this is unacceptable, but I mean good for those fans that was wearing XXXY t-shirt. So this is just against our freedom of speech. - So this is another female sports league. You were kicked out of the WNBA game. Here's a female soccer league doing the same thing. And we did note this at the top and it's clear from the evidence, only the women's, the pro women's sports side was removed from the stadium and physically removed, restrained as they were removed. You said the DOJ is looking into this. Have we had an official statement from them? - I don't think so, not yet, but I just hope that they can come out with something really good because I mean, these people are just literally simply there to just wash the game but these people are brave and they're not gonna back down and they're just gonna keep going through the games and then try to, I guess, figure that what is a woman? - Yeah, the big question. And related to that, so we have an official statement from the WNBA related to you. You're aspiring to join the league. They're blocking this. What was their logic for blocking you from? - Well, so, one of my friend, Congressman, message me and said, "Hey, we finally got an respond from the WNBA." I was like, from who exactly? They said, "Well, the commissioner herself." - Okay, from the angle, but from the top. I was like, "Can you please send me the letter of media?" So he sent me the letter. I'm just like reading, right? And the last paragraph, she was like, "Well, they cannot play because they are a man." It stopped for a second. I'm like, so she can define what is a man, but she still cannot define what is a woman. And it's been almost two months now. It is unacceptable on their end, but I'm not taking that seriously. You know, I have every right to identify, whatever I want to be, identify. And then we'll see what happens in a draft. So you are pushing forward. - Oh, I will. I'm definitely not backing down. They can end this whole madness tomorrow by literally adding a word, biological, and they will not hear from me ever again. And if not, I'm not backing down. - Meanwhile, they've painted themselves in a corner now by deciding that you're a man. Before you go, I know that you're here in Tennessee for a reason, and I know you've met with a few political leaders. - Yes. - And I wanted you to break down what it is you're talking about. Something about keeping Tennessee truly Tennessee. - So Marshall Blackmore, especially, right. She's been a dear friend to me. When I got kicked out of the MBA around five years ago because of Chinese Communist Party, she was actually one of the first senators to reach that and say, "What can we do to help?" And that meant a lot to me. And now she's running for a governor in the state. And as she invited me, I was like, "Of course." You know, the reason I'm here, so because she's the person that is going to keep a man out of woman's force. She's going to pick freedom over communism and socialism every single day. She's going to make sure that we are safe, but our kids and the next generations that everyone is safe. So for that reason, I'm here to support her. So it's going to be interesting. It's going to be my first political rally, actually, other than President Trump's rally. So it's going to be very interesting. I'm the keynote speaker. I'm really actually excited to speak for one of all these people of Tennessee, see how they see what they think. - Well, thank you so much for joining us today. - Thank you for having me. - Another story we're tracking. The DOJ is trying to bring a third criminal case against former FBI director James Comey for violating the Espionage Act. In court documents unsealed Monday, federal prosecutors say Comey leaked national defense information to a reporter back in 2016. Comey's lawyers say the charges are past the set time limit, but the DOJ says it's filed documents to extend the 10-year statute of limitations. Thanks for waking up with us.
