President Trump made a series of consequential announcements over the weekend, including a security deal with Greenland and his decision to oust CNN and MS now from the White House. Here to discuss that and more is Victoria Cotes of the Heritage Foundation Victoria. Thanks for coming on. It's been a minute. Of course glad to be here. So let's start with Trump's battle with the press. What exactly has he announced in what kind of precedent is there for this? Well, the whole situation is unprecedented. And what it started with is the president canceling all the subscriptions that the United States government has with these various outlets. And I remember from when I was at the Department of Energy, I was literally beleaguered by Politico saying you have to sign up for this $10,000 subscription. You have to have this information. And during the Biden administration, this ballooned $8 million. Yeah, subscriptions for people who have access to classified material. They don't need this. So anyway, that's where it started. But I think the reaction was such outrage. The president took it another step and said, look, if you're going to report fake news, you don't need access to the White House. And so we've seen Politico, for example, or CNN rather pack up their things from Pebble Beach. And we'll see what happens going forward. Now we have seen past administrations obviously give the cold shoulder to outlets like Fox News. But can President Trump do this? Will this hold up? I expect the president can designate who gets access to the White House and who doesn't. And there may be an agreement that is reached between certain parties and the press secretary, the new one, whoever that may be, that may be part of this process. But it really is up to the president. And the press has been so relentlessly hostile. We've all seen the metrics on the negative stories about President Trump versus the positive stories about President Biden and President Obama. And it's a little bit like the New York Times reporting on Israel and Gaza. It's so skewed. I don't blame him for saying, I don't have time to do this. I will talk to reporters. Heaven knows he will talk to reporters. But not if I'm going to get this totally skewed product. Now switching gears, President Trump also is in the midst of constructing his triumphant arch. And he just came out to say that the arch is also going to have some kind of military function. And he says that's per the Pentagon's request. That's not even something he came up with. What's going on there? No, and Secretary Bergen had already previewed this, calling it the, both the triumphant arch and the military observation post. And with all of these major construction projects, including the ballroom, you can do all sorts of auxiliary things to them. You can put things underground, have secure facilities underneath them. You can place people on them, storage facilities. So my understanding is the triumphant arch. And with my PhD in Italian Renaissance Art History, I am all for triumphant archers. Love them. Yeah. But so that part of it's great. But on top of that, it can be used. You remember where this thing is right across the Arlington Bridge. Right up against Arlington Cemetery. Proximum to the Pentagon, but closer into the city as well. So this can be a security facility as well. It's a great location for it. For the record, I'm a big fan of triumphant archers myself. Trump also announced this weekend our new security agreement with Greenland. This has been a massive saga. NATO has officially said they like this deal, which I'm shocked about. What's the situation there? Now, this is a triple win. And bear in mind, this is something President had been working on from the first term. It shouldn't have come as such a great shock to everyone when he came back in. That he really wanted to get to a deal here because the situation had just gotten more imperative from a U.S. national security perspective. We had an agreement with Greenland at Denmark, going back to 1953, under which we had what was then called Tully, now called Ptufik space phase. In Greenland, it went for being one of our Cold War assets with an air wing there to now being part of Space Force. One of our most sensitive missile defense and observation, again, an observation pose. This time, the northernmost deep water port, one of the longest runways that we have control over. So a highly strategic site. We're going to have many fewer people there, but much more sophisticated equipment. And the key thing here, John, is that if you look at a map and the trajectory of Russian ICBMs coming toward the United States, three quarters of them have to go over Greenland. We have to have this space, which will now be a network of bases. Good for Denmark, they get economic relief while protecting their sovereign territory. Good for Greenland, they will get investment. And the freedom to either decide they want to be more closely associated with the United States, stay the way they are, or become independent down the road. Ed Sheeran is facing a growing backlash after rapper McCormore was dropped from the U.S. leg of his tour over his on-stage anti-Israel rants. Sheeran has now broken his silence and appears to be criticizing both Israel and the venues that refuse to host McCormore. Here with the details is daily wire culture reporter Megan Basham. So Megan, we were going back and forth about whether or not to cover this, but it's just become such a massive controversy and of course one of the world's biggest musicians. Now before we get into the political nuances, can you just give us a broad overview of what happened up to this point and why Sheeran made those controversial statements just a few nights ago? Yeah, Georgia. I mean, this story spun out of control very quickly and it really became sort of a divide within the entire music industry. So I think it is worth covering. And what happened was back in early September at Boston's Gillette Stadium, Macklemore, was Ed Sheeran's opening act. And he used his time on stage to make, as John said, some political statements about Israel. He accused them of genocide. So he was wearing a cafe and he led the crowd in chance of free Palestine. So very political. At that point, New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, whose company also happens to own Gillette Stadium, said that Macklemore was not going to be welcome to perform there again. The Wall Street Journal reported that Kraft called some of the other stadium owners and they agreed with Kraft's position, particularly when he pointed out that Macklemore has a history of anti-Semitic rhetoric. Just one example of that. Back in 2014, he performed wearing a costume that was widely perceived to be a very ugly Jewish caricature. So you can see a little bit of that here. But officially, the promoter, Missina Turing Group made this call. But at that point, Sheeran put out a statement saying that he was "not complicit in the decision," which I think is somewhat interesting rhetoric in and of itself. So the backlash then grew against Sheeran very quickly from that point. Yeah. So how did Macklemore's removal turn into a crisis for Sheeran's entire tour? So Macklemore said that losing his slot was a price that he was willing to pay and he pledged to give a million dollars from his Turing revenues to Palestine. And then other supporting acts began pulling out in solidarity. So Phineas, who is better known as Billy Eilish's brother, Lucas Graham, Aaron Rowe, all pulled out and even Ed Sheeran's own backup musicians pulled out. So by Saturday night in Philadelphia, Sheeran was forced to perform without any of these planned opening acts and he even had to rush to get replacements for his backup band. So pretty extreme here. And anti-Israel demonstrators gathered outside his concert in Lincoln financial field. Some of those fans sought refunds. So, you know, by that point, the story became less about Macklemore and the statements that he had made. And it became more about the entertainment industry accusing Sheeran of betraying his fellow artists. Now, I imagine Sheeran has been consulting some crisis PR firms. How has he responded since then? Yeah. So he took the stage in Philadelphia and he apologized for making mistakes. And he said that he's trying to build bridges. And he did acknowledge that Hamas' October 7th attack was horrific. But then he also called out Israel's Warren Gaza and he described it as a catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate. And he also described what he called systemic injustice in the West Bank. So, you know, here's a little bit of what he said at that concert. What is happening in Gaza is a catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate. So I think that marked something of a noticeable shift from his tone earlier in the week. He had said to fans that they come to his concerts for music, that he doesn't want to be political and that it's not a political forum. But here he was using that same stage to deliver political remarks about his assessment of the war. Now, that said, Sheeran is saying that the loop tour is going to go on as planned, including those Gillette Stadium dates next weekend. And in the meantime, Robert Kraft has said that he has offered to meet with Macklemore, but no word yet on whether Macklemore plans to take him up on that offer. The lone hold out juror in the Lindsay Clancy case has loyered up and finally broken his silence after the case ended in a mistrial. Meanwhile, her ex-husband Patrick Clancy sat down for a highly anticipated interview with 60 minutes. Joining us now with the latest to Staley Wire host of that so criminal, Lyndon Blake. So Lyndon, a lot of eyeballs on that interview last night. But let's start first with the lone juror. That's the man who refused to go along with the other 11 jurors in finding Lindsay Clancy not guilty of killing her three children. A lot of scrutiny on him to say the least he has since gotten a lawyer and he's spoken out. What has he said? Yeah, the lone juror Michael Deserneville is standing by his verdict, which is guilty. He thought Lindsay Clancy was guilty of murdering her three children. AGA, he was saying she was criminally responsible. Whereas we've heard from any other jurors, they did not feel the same way. While on Friday, Deserneville said this to ABC in a statement, I didn't have any doubts. As I tried to explain different possible theories during deliberation, I kept getting cut off as if I had doubts based on the evidence presented. He also said, based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses and what the prosecution presented, I thought it was enough proof that she knew exactly what she was doing and she planned that. So yeah, he was saying that he doesn't care if he's called arrogant or anything else by these other jurors that he is standing by his convictions. And another thing that he pointed out was, if you remember towards the end of the trial, you had the jury four person bring these notes to the judge saying that there was one person that wasn't correctly applying the law. Well, to that, Deserneville said that he is completely rejecting that claim by the four person and insist he was following the judge's instructions. Now, last night, we had this 60 minutes interview with Patrick Clancy and his new wife. What seemed to be the purpose of him sitting down for that? And what did we learn from them? Yeah, this is a highly anticipated interview on 60 minutes with Patrick Clancy, the entire interview with Patrick took about 15 minutes to start the program. And he really went into what struggles he faced in the days after the murders, his own mental health. He said he didn't even think he would make it to his 35th birthday. And he also talked about how he honors the kids every day. Has their toys in his place? He has their handprints everywhere. He said he sold dreams about his children. He talks them every day. It was really emotional to hear from them from that perspective. And then also he said that Talon, his eight-month-old baby, actually died in his arms. He was in the hospital with him the four days that he was there fighting for his life after Lindsay strangled the three children in the basement. Now, he did say that he continues to stand by his forgiveness for Clancy saying that that wasn't who she was. She wasn't a killer mom. She wasn't a monster. Patrick to this day is saying that the mental health is what had her do such a horrible thing to their family. So again, we know that he forgave her, but he revealed this interview that Lindsay never asked for his forgiveness. Also, in this interview, his new wife, Dr. Rachel joined for the latter part. And they announced they were planning to start a family. And he said that he will tell his new children about their murdered brothers and sister. Now, as we've said, the case ended in a mistrial. And we've been waiting to see what comes next with a possible retrial. What is the latest there? Yeah. The next time we're going to hear something out of this case that is now back to square one is September 29th. That's when the prosecution and the defense team will get back together in that courtroom in front of the judge and find out where to go from here. Again, a mistrial is back to square one. Everything is done over again. New jury, you go back, you give the opening statements, a brand new trial. I personally think with how much attention this has gotten and how people are continuing to talk about this, even after the mist trial was declared, it wouldn't shock me if there was a plea deal reached.
