Trump Can’t Stop Fighting Canada

And Trump has now signed an executive order like on a napkin or something like that. Directing interior secretary Doug Burgham to rename Lake Ontario Lake America in all US federal systems, maps, contracts, the geographic names information system within 30 days. I want to know because the president, I guess, didn't look it up, which doesn't surprise me. Lake Ontario, it was named over 400 years ago by the indigenous people who were here before we showed up and Canadian showed up. This isn't like a Mark Carney problem. Like, this is a history problem. I know that doesn't matter to him, but I just wanted to get that out into the ether. It is, if he does get to rename it, and it will only be for people that are pandering to him who use the term, it was a consolation prize. Since Canada, I didn't want to be our 51st state. So no surprise there. Here's Trump talking about it. - The lake change, the lake of America was something I've been thinking about for a long time, actually. As you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico, which changed it, and now it's very routinely the Gulf of America. So if you think about it, we have a Gulf, and we have a lake. Now what we need is a notion. So maybe we'll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we'll change it, but. - I'm so tired of him. - My question was going to be, how is this real life? - Which is akin to I'm so tired of. - You know how we learn the great lakes, the acronym Homes, now it's shame, and because Ontario is replaced with America. No, I mean, listen, no, I will just say this, and I try to be as non-partisan as possible, but if your vibe is a political leader renaming things, because he doesn't get his way, we're just not on the same wave these days. I just, who cares? And I don't know if you saw this, but Florida's education, I don't minister, whatever the person who leads education on Florida, announced that he's gonna reprint the entire state's textbooks to change the name of like Ontario to like America, costing Florida taxpayers, likely millions of dollars. Like it is insane. It is truly insane what we're witnessing right now, but it, number one, it's all gonna be undone by any future precedent. Like any Democratic president come in, revoke this, Gulf of Mexico is gonna be Gulf of Mexico, like Ontario is gonna be Lake Ontario, and the Department of Defense, will probably be the Department of Defense. But number two, it's just, it's just crazy to see how like you have the Canadians who are, their economy today is booming. GDP growth is soaring. And at the same time, Kevin Warsh came out today and says inflation remains stubbornly high and we may not have any more rate cuts. So like the American economy is struggling, the Canadian economy is booming, Canada's finding other folks to trade with, the Chinese, the Russians, and we're renaming lakes. - We're very busy with all of the important stuff. I am waiting for Trump to lash out at Kevin Warsh, who sounded like a normal human being, 'cause I know that he really hates when that happens. It was interesting though, I was talking about this on the five yesterday and pushing back, 'cause I do not believe for a second that if a democratic president got in his or her head, God willing, there is a hurt at some point, and said I wanna rename Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of America, Lake Ontario, et cetera, that they would be cool with it. And they told me absolutely because it's patriotic. So calling that out on all of my platforms, that is a load of shit. But Dana Perino said that she thinks that this trade war with Canada gets resolved before the Canadian retaliatory tariffs go into place on the 8th. She said, maybe it's Labor Day, we're out barbecuing and they fix it. I'm not sure about that. She might have information that I'm not privy to, or just more faith in Donald Trump and James and Greer, but what are your thoughts about how far this actually goes? You're absolutely right about finding the other partners, and I would just add to your last India, 'cause it's now a huge partner as well. For those that we have scorned and tried to become their overlords. - Yeah, I mean, listen, I think what a lot of people forget and maybe Dana is kind of overlooking this fact is the fact that we've been in a trade war with Canada since January 20th, 2025. Like this trade war has been kind of like the Cold War-type trade war for 18 months now. So even if it ends in a week, let's say, I have no doubt in six months from now, we're gonna be slapping tariffs on to Canada again, because Mark Carney did something Trump didn't like. Like I thought we were done with this. I thought we had moved on from the tariff game and let's-- - That was enough that they have to repay more than they took it. - Yeah, I thought this was like a thing of 2025, but now we're back on it. And it's like, what's next? Are we gonna be back on Greenland in three months? If NATO doesn't give us Greenland, it's like recycling the past. I mean, listen, at this point, I'd put this out yesterday and a lot of Trump White House staffers liked it, and I wouldn't be surprised it ends up on his true social. But I said, you know what? At this point, Trump is just gonna rename the San Andreas Falc Joe Biden's fault. That's where we're heading to next. And I got a lot of Republican likes, so we'll have to see what happens. - To be judged by your likes. - Yeah, I got this liking it, and then I got Monica Crowley liking it. - Okay, I know Monica, she wouldn't do that by accident, necessarily. - Right. - The horseshoe effect goes for a lot of things in society today and might be won on these useless trade wars. Do you think there is any real juice behind the idea that maybe Canada would want to join the EU? - Well, Canada's not in Europe, so that I don't think. - I know, but it wouldn't make sense. - It made like a special partnership. Obviously, a lot of it is, you know, because of the easy transfer across land. But-- - I don't think it makes much sense. I mean, I think-- - I mean, it needs better friends than us, or they need better friends than us. - I'm serious when I say I think the better friends are gonna be the Chinese and the Russians and the Indian. I mean, I really think Carnies just like re-establishing this kind of global, new global order. I think the last thing, I mean, where we are heading, which is what I predict, is that you could, like, right wingers are worried about Cuba having like Russian missiles in Cuba. In two years, if this relationship continues to be degrading, what if the Chinese just say, we're gonna build a military base on the border of American Canada? And the Canadians are like, yeah, build a military base in Canada. I mean, like, but like, this is where like things can go, if like, you really, really tear down this relationship. I don't know if it'll ever get there, but yeah. - I mean, that's really scary. - Yeah. - I'm not saying anything is impossible. Donald Trump has been elected President of the United States of America two times. Twice, yeah, first time, maybe a little bit by accident for people. Second time, intentionally. - Correct. - So, weirder things have happened. Then I guess the Chinese military base right above the border. I, the collective meltdown here would be something to behold, and I would join in that meltdown. I wanna talk Democratic side of the aisle right now. We've been in this civil war seems extreme. We're having some problems. The tent is difficult to wrangle, like a toddler. The anti-establishment candidate's having their moment, but not in Iowa, where Rob Sand is just doing all the good stuff. I don't know how much you're into him. - I'm a big fan of Rob Sand. I think he's gonna be a presidential candidate one day. - Yeah. - Yeah. I think if he wins, he'll be like, top of the ticket, 2032 or 2036 whenever. Yeah. - Well, I do think he is gonna win. And Zachelyn, who's running against is not impressive. But he was being interviewed this week. I was asked about Joe Biden, Kamala Harris. If he wants them to campaign for him, he was a no. It doesn't think that Harris should win. run again in 2028, distance himself from the party's last national ticket. Um, let's watch him. There's some candidates obviously wouldn't be helpful necessarily to you here, right? Probably. Yeah. Would you want to have Joe Biden here, can't wait for you? Is it? No. Can you even do that right now? I'm sorry. I'm a Kamala Harris. No, thanks. Let's move on. We need some new leadership. You don't think Harris should run in 2028? Nope. Yeah. He just says what he thinks. It's like so nice. Very repressive. Right? Yeah. I mean, it's very refreshing. And I think Rob Sand is doing what he needs to do to win in a Ruby red state like Iowa. I think if Rob Sand was running for governor of South Carolina, I think he'd want Kamala Harris there. Because I think Kamala Harris puts up much better numbers in South Carolina than she would in Iowa. Um, so I think that it just depends on where he's like the state, the election, the state. I mean, there's so many factors to it, but it is refreshing to hear that from Rob. I mean, reason and minds can disagree with him. But yeah. Do you think this is going to start a bit of a trend? And obviously he's in Iowa. It's different than people running, you know, in states where either Biden might still remain popular. Yeah. You know, Jim Clyburn and Joe Biden, you know, that's a thing that you could end up seeing. But Kamala Harris and some of these other states might be welcome beyond South Carolina. I feel like this is a moment where the gates are opening a little bit for people to be able to not dance around it as much and to just say, you know, great respect for them. But no, the people are ready to move on. That's what I've been hearing on the ground. That's the safest thing. Put it on the voters because the voters do want to move on. Well, I don't know if you saw this, but in Iowa, the Iowa Democratic Party has really only allowed three 2028 hopefuls kind of come in the state, right? There was Andy Beshear, Mark Kelly and Pete Buttigieg, even like Gavin Newsom, AOC, like the top dog. I think they're not in Iowa. And I think the Iowa Party sending a clear message, but I also think I'm going to be honest with you like, I would it is not going to matter that much for Democrats in 2028 any more given the new primary schedule. Iowa is no longer first in the nation. Iowa is no longer in the top five in the nation. So it's just another kind of caucus primary that happens down the line. I think it's interesting to see something like in Massachusetts, sixth congressional district Dan Coe embracing Biden, embracing Harris and winning potentially in that in that primary versus Iowa's the opposite. So we'll have to see. I mean, I don't know. I think it's I think it's a robust conversation and disagreement of ideas. And I think that's important. But I guarantee you that if Kamala Harris is the nominee in 2028, Rob San will probably get behind her. Yeah. I mean, Rob San is also running a distinctly nonpartisan campaign on a comparative basis. There's a big times piece about how you actually wouldn't know what party he was representing based on his ads and the way that he talks, which is fabulous. And I wouldn't mind if we had more of that, frankly, in more partisan races, even in bluer states, because I, you know, 40% identify as independent and people are sick of the tribalism anyway. But I do think that he's going to have a decisive win. I think he is hopefully going to be very helpful as well to Josh Turek in lifting him up to. And I think that people will take lessons from that because I had Josh Turek on and I asked him, you know, who do you want to come campaign with you? And he only named folks from Iowa, you know, said like Tom Harkin, that would be great. He did allow Biden Obama in. And I was like, well, yeah, we do have to. When you said not a 2028 hopeful, I was like, oh, sad, but maybe Michelle, as my pipe dream continues. I, enough, you know that I love Hillary, like I wear a brightly colored pants suit every day in her honor. If I have to hear about Hillary on the five again, I'm going to, I'm not going to tell myself that I have children and I like to live. What do you hate hearing about more Hassan Piker, Hillary Clinton or trans athletes on the five? That is such an upsetting ABC or like fuck Mary Kill scenario. I hate it all. I would actually, I would talk about trans athletes more than I want to talk about Hillary Clinton because it hurts my heart and people are mean about her and then Hassan, I was saying yesterday to one of our mutual DSA pals that the amount of stress that goes into having to talk about Hassan Piker for me is like blood boiling level. Like I'm in a full sweat. I should put towels underneath my armpits to make it through a segment about Hassan Piker. And here we did it again. Yeah. Clip it. She has towels in my armpits. One news, reports that Haitian deportation flights are set to expand as soon as this week. Trump administration is moving faster to remove the roughly 350,000 Haitians whose temporary protected status laps this summer following the administration's Supreme Court win in June. The first flight already sent more than 160 people back on August 20th, returning people back to a country facing ongoing gang violence at over a million internally displaced people. We're not supposed to go there as Americans just so you know how unsafe and I don't believe they even have a functioning airport. So yeah, the Department of Homeland Security set the flight included several people with serious criminal records. I trust the federal government on that one. Whenever they tell us that someone's a bad ombre, it usually turns out to be true. A second flight went out this week that also included several children born in the US or Brazil and Haiti and Brazil are different places. This comes right after Trump has all immigrant visa applications to the US. Where do you think the TBS battle goes because the Haitians are a different category of immigrant to a lot of people including many Republicans who have spoken out about this, you know, folks like Governor DeWine in Ohio, you know, huge populations in a lot of Republican led states where they have good evidence that these are solid people, believe in American values, do the hard work, respect the country, all the things that they say that they want and also had legal status, right, not living in the shadows fully authorized. They're playing a dangerous game, but they have been since the beginning because it's not just the Haitian TPS, they're about to revoke TPS for Ukrainians too potentially soon. And I think that immigration is not the top issue for the overwhelming majority of Americans today. It may have been back November of 2024, but November of 2026, it is not a top issue. And I think seeing the cruelty, seeing the, you like to tweet out off and cruelty is the point because it is, right, like I think every average, every day Americans seeing people ripped off our streets, that is not something that anyone wants to vote for. You have your far right, select a few people who want that and want to see that. But overall, this is not going to help the president. And I don't know if you saw the Department of Homeland Security put out kind of like a dehumanizing video of these Haitian migrants who are being revoked TPS in like prison outfits, chains, getting thrown on these planes, getting sent back, like that's not how you do this. Like, even if you're like, I understand the argument temporary protected status is temporary. Sure, it's never meant to be a permanent situation, but there are avenues where you can go from temporary to permanent and they've shut all those avenues down asylum. You can't get an asylum appointment green cards impossible. I mean, like these applications have been paused worldwide. You can't get to permanent number one, number two. These people aren't like you said, they're not bad people. Like, if you're going to revoke their TPS, like, okay, put them on a normal flight, give them 1,000 bucks, like you're giving everyone else who are voluntarily self-deporting, help try to set them up. I mean, there's so many problems with the way they're doing it, but what, I mean, will it matter? I don't know. Well, the snuff video advertisement for this does remind me, remember the C-Cot videos with Christy Nome and the tight white t-shirt wearing our Rolex, like standing in front of these cages, where in C-Cot there were a lot of hardened criminals, but there were a lot of people who were accidentally sent there because they just had a tattoo, for instance, weren't actually even Venezuelans, all of it, and it scares me to see that we are going down this path because, as you said, we don't have an immigration problem like we did after 2024. I find it a lot of work in his final year to stop the flow of immigrants across the border, but no one in their right mind would say we didn't have an immigration problem. The border is closed now. Right. They can't go around saying, like, there are 230,000 people streaming across the border in a month alone. like this is what my drones are or whatever. So this is straight up cruelty. And I worry I have a friend who's in immigration attorney that there is no recourse for these people. And what are you sending the Ukrainians back to? I wanted to ask you, what do you think John Rackliffe was doing in Russia? What do you think he was saying? Well, I think it was similar to what the CIA director under Biden, I forget his name, it's missing his name right now, went in 2021 to warm Putin not to conduct a large-scale invasion. Like I think all signs point to you. Are we kind of past that? We are, but all signs point to a massive mobilization of Russian forces to do another kind of push into Ukraine. But then she used tactical nuclear weapons. But then she'd do some type of provocation with NATO. And I think it was all kind of to say stop. Not smart. Yeah. That's why you want me to talk about eight hours. I don't think Putin cares. I think Putin's going to do whatever he wants. Yeah. Oh, this sounds great. Everything is going so well. You already brought up Florida and all the money that they're going to spend on reprinting tax books to reflect the lake of America. But there's another big story. A grand jury has found that the DeSantis administration quote misappropriated $10 million in taxpayer money. The money was redirected to Hope, Florida. The charity started by first lady, Casey DeSantis, right before the 2024 election. The money was then moved into political money was then moved into political action committees and the Florida GOP. And it was used in efforts to defeat the recreational marijuana ballot measure. The jury didn't file charges because despite the fact the money was misappropriated, nobody would take responsibility for who actually moved it. Is this a big deal? Yes. Okay, great. It was money meant for sick kids, poor sick kids. And it went into the political action committee of the sitting attorney general who wasn't even elected attorney general was appointed was DeSantis's former chief of staff. I mean, it's just the corruption is mind boggling. But then it even gets another layer of corruption because the current United States Senator Ashley Moody who's also not an elected United States Senator was the attorney general who knew about all of this. And it's just like it's all one big family affair with the DeSantis crew. And that's why you even see Republicans calling out which is which I find very interesting Rick Scott called it out and was like this is unacceptable. You have Matt Gaetz calling it out saying it's unacceptable. Florida Republicans are furious about this because it's it's corruption. Plane us day. As setting all of that aside, they all hate each other. Florida Republicans. That's like the open secret like Rubio hates Scott. Scott hates DeSantis. DeSantis hates Rubio. They all hate each other. But it is it's very bad. And I and I'm shocked there won't be criminal charges. Do you think it can be used effectively in these elections, whether by Angie Nixon or David Jolly to talk about this culture of corruption? Because I feel like it also is just much easier for Republicans to call out something like this versus calling out with Trump administration is doing so that they can seem like decent human beings. I mean, but possibly I am probably I mean I think like and I say this as a Floridian, Florida is a very big upcoat battle for any Democrat running. So maybe this goes from a 10 point race to a 7 point race, 7 point race to a 5 point race. I don't know. Do I think this is the reason why Angie Nixon beats Ashley Moody? No, there's got to be more than just this. But maybe there will be more we'll see. What do you think DeSantis does when he leaves office? I think he wants to be a cabinet official for Trump. I think like I think he wants to be like replacement for Hexeth because I don't I don't see Hexeth lasting all four years. That's what I think this wants. Where's he going to mount his 2028 campaign? Oh no, he's going to go see next to you. Why do you do this to me? He's not sitting next to me. And we have a new co-host Emily Kampagno named this week. Oh yeah. Yeah, I'm really sweetie. Yeah. The New York Times is reporting that back in March, Donald Trump, Jr. spoke to a room full of state attorneys general. See how I said that properly. I've been working on it in New Orleans and urged them to back off attempts to regulate prediction markets like CalShi and Polymarket. His argument was that companies like this are already regulating themselves where we heard that before. But it's important to note that he has a direct financial interest here is he's a paid strategic advisor to CalShi and sits on Polymarket's board with a financial stake through his firm 1789 capital. I don't, I mean, I get why he's on the board of both of those. But it is kind of crazy just to hear it to be like, oh, the two biggest competitors. And yeah, president's kid is on the boards of both. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I don't really have anything to say on this, honestly, because it's just like, okay, another one. It's just another one. It's just like another one, another one, another one. And if accountability doesn't come, I may, I don't know, I may light up a bunch of Democrats. If if accountability doesn't come, if they win, if like. Well, why? Okay. Like, regulating these companies, like, hauling people, like, why? I want the hauling Don Jr. in front of oversight. Yeah. I want Don Jr. up on Capitol Hill testifying under oath about all of this. I want to set a record. I set a record so that if there is a democratic attorney general and attorney general can look at this and actually look at whether they're criminal charges there, whether there is conflict of interest issues. I want it all under oath. I want it all transcribed. Make it happen. Make it happen, guys. That's what we want. We want inflation down more affordable housing, good health care, and oversight hearings. That is our plea to you. Yes. Anything else? No. That's it. Okay. Cool. That sounds good. I got more corruption for you. This time from the Middle East. Trump's new crypto bank has a very powerful foreign backer, Abu Dhabi Royal, shake to a noon. Oh my god. Oh, yeah. That would have been easier to say. I'm not even going to try to do the rest of it. The UAE is national security advisor who owns a 49% stake in the bank's holding company. He already invested 500 million into Trump's crypto venture. A deal that sent 263 million to Trump family entities. I love that it's even a term, the Trump family entities. Now the administration is obviously making major decisions involving the UAE. I remember this story and no one wanted to talk about it around inauguration because they were just launching so many meme coins that you were like, how can I even keep up with this? And then smart people were like, okay, so you have the basic grift and then you have this international grift and what the UAE is doing and it is all happening in the two days surrounding inauguration. What can be done about this if anything or it's just like we got a win and then something can be done. Time for us have to win and then do something. I mean, like, who's going to do something at Todd Blanche? No. It's just why is there no shame reflux? That's what I don't understand. I also, you know, I don't know what it's like to have billions of dollars, obviously, but like in general, I wish that people had some sense of like when enough is enough. Like you are very, very rich. Yeah. Could you just take a pause because do you want people talking about you like this all the time? You're asking for a lot. I mean, I don't think that'll ever happen, but the rich always want to get richer. I know they should take the giving pledge. Yes, I imagine. I know they would never. Okay. Before we get to questions, a little bit on the jelly roll controversy, I was actually surprised at jelly roll in Virginia and Camel, right? I did not think that this was his politics at all. And now Republicans are banning jelly roll from Florida. News Nation hosts are like deleting his songs off their phone. In real time, even though jelly roll was like Maga Jason just like last week. So it's hilarious. I just think that like they're eating their own and okay. Yeah, it definitely feels like a writing on the wall moment and also showing off his new bod. So, you know, that's part of it. But I do like when the outreach becomes just so performative and like the bat signal goes out and it's like take out your phone and, you know, video yourself deleting jelly roll songs and things like that. Like he's fine. He's laughing all the way to the bank. Correct. And now he has lots of liberal friends and we're more loyal and fun at a party. I don't know if that's really true. But I'm editing on jelly roll questions. Okay. Eve is D. Is that I want to say it wants to know. Even with knowing that food recalls happen during every administration, do you think there's any correlation between this year's uptick in them and project 2025? Because there was a chapter in project 2025 about food safety. No, so there actually isn't an uptick in recalls this year. The amount of recalls this year is actually the same as we've seen last year. People we're just talking about recalls more where we do see an uptick this year is in foodborne illnesses. We're at a 500% increase. So the foodborne illnesses are surging, not the recalls. And yes, the food borne illnesses, there's a direct correlation with project 2025 because RFK shuddered a number of agencies and programs meant to monitor foodborne illnesses. So. That was a very detailed well-researched answer. I'm impressed. Thank you. We just have more diarrhea. Jennifer Hughes asks, why do you think hacking Jeffery is really met with Jared Kushner? I am kind of, I don't know, I mean, I think Hakeem met Jared because I think Jared in the White House imports either writing on the wall that I think Democrats are going to take over. And I think Hakeem hasn't met with administration officials since becoming democratic leader. So I think that was part of it. I think another part of it was it was a trap, right? The White House kind of lured Hakeem in and Hakeem kind of took the bait and then Kushner leaked it and made this whole thing for Hakeem. I don't know. I thought that this was such a stupid outrage cycle. And it was, I guess it unified the big 10 on the left that everyone was pissed about it, like all the lefties to James Carville, who's like, you don't meet with fascists whenever you go out and you beat them. You have no idea what they sat in there, right? Like Hakeem Jeffery could have walked in there and sat silently and was like, okay, you make your case and then he says, like, we're going to route you guys in November. And we will leave no stone unturned in investigating your dirty business dealings and all the other shit that's gone on. Like, how do you know? And I think if you're in a position of leadership, you take the meeting. I mean, maybe I just, you know, sound like someone too conciliatory who hangs out with conservatives, which I do. But like, the idea that the leader of the Democratic Party in the House wouldn't take a meeting with a powerful senior advisor in the administration seems silly to me. Like, they showed up as they showed up. Remember when they went to the Oval Office and Trump had the MAGA Houts and then he did the AI Sombrero and was all racist and all of it. I actually think that worked tremendously to Huckian Jeffries and Chuck Schumer's advantage because it showed that there are some adults in the room and there are some, you know, blithering idiots. So I know it wasn't, this one wasn't televised, but I'm pro taking the meeting. All right. I mean, we'll see. I know I was ahead in this. I can't really say. Fine. I'll still see you at five. Okay. Blake asked Aaron, what do you think of the meta settlement and the news that they'll put daily usage limits on Instagram for teens? Yeah, it's good as long as it's able to, I mean, you could enforce it. I think meta new is wrong. And I, and like, it's a good thing, right? Like, I think we should hold these big tech companies accountable, but I don't think you'll actually see any real results until there is real regulation from Congress. Yeah. You didn't ask me, but I'm going to tell you that I think that we need it for adults too. I will surrender my phone for it. And that the settlement was peanuts. It was like less than Q2 earnings.
