This episode of Crimes of Reddit explores three deeply disturbing cases of poisoning and manipulation, all originating from personal relationships. The first story involves a brother secretly adding milk to his sister-in-law’s food, exploiting her lactose allergy over years to isolate her and assert control, ultimately leading to a breakdown in family ties. The second case details a son being poisoned by his mother through tampered ramen noodles, with a positive cyanide test result, demonstrating how familial abuse can manifest in subtle, repeated acts of sabotage. The third case involves a law enforcement officer being unknowingly given Viagra in a drink by a former partner, highlighting violations of consent and trust, especially concerning power imbalances. These stories reveal a recurring theme: poisoning—whether physical or emotional—is often a tool of control, rooted in possessiveness and a desire to dominate. The narratives emphasize how such behaviors are frequently hidden, minimized, or rationalized by family or close associates, making detection difficult. Viewers are encouraged to recognize warning signs, seek medical and legal help when needed, and prioritize personal boundaries. The episode underscores that abuse, especially within intimate relationships, is not only harmful but can be systemic and deeply entangled in familial or professional roles. Ultimately, these cases serve as cautionary tales about the dangers of unspoken control and the importance of consent, transparency, and emotional accountability.
Hi everyone, before today's episode, we want to tell you about What the Fact. It's a new show from Conor Tomlinson, who you know from Netflix's Love on the Spectrum, and Carter Roy from Murder, True Crime Stories. Follow What the Fact, wherever you listen, or subscribe on YouTube at What the Fact on. This is Crime House. Over the week, my mother kept calling me, making sure to remind me to eat my ramen noodles. I was short on cash then, waiting for my first paycheck. I never told her that I ate it. I suspected then that I had been poisoned, and after doing some googling, I believed it was cyanide. I was, I'm not okay. Hello. Hi. Welcome back to Crime's of Reddit. I have a question. Are you a morning person? No. Okay. Really do. Are you a night person? Yes. Okay. Well, actually, I should know that because I'm up to life. We were working last night at like 11 p.m. Yeah. I come alive in the night, but this is actually getting up to do this has been really good for me. Yeah. It's like pushing me to get out of bed before anything. Before I wake up in the morning. Exactly. No, I'm really not a morning person, are you? I'm a sleep person. I'm the best when I'm asleep. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And then I go through abs and floats. I really enjoy a slow morning, like a really quiet, known around. Oh, yeah. Sun's coming up. Mm-hmm. A couple hours before you have to do work. I love that. But today, I need a caffeine drip. Yep. Injected into my veins, which I feel like is very apropos for the theme for today's episode. 100%. Because it's poisoning. Diaries where people have been poisoned by a lot of, in a lot of cases, well, the stories at least that I have, by the last person they would ever suspect. Well, think about how intimate poisoning is, how close you have to be to someone, and you need to have access to like the things they're ingesting in their home usually. Yeah. So like, it's usually pretty close. And I don't know those specific stats, but like a lot of poisoners are women. And that is the case. Actually, it's the case in one of my stories. It's not the case in my first story. Well, then I'm excited to hear it because you're right. Most of the poisoning stories you hear about or the ones that become documentaries, it's women. Yeah. I do love the idea of growing poisonous plants in my backyard. Well, yeah. Because it's spooky. Not to use them, but just, yeah, to just to add to your lore. Yeah. I love that. Yeah, yeah. So today, like we said, we have stories all about poisonings found on Reddit, shared by people just like you out there. Hopefully, most people aren't poisoned, but if you have been, you can also share your stories on our subreddit, crimes of pod, and maybe we'll feature it in a future episode. I don't know the story you have picked out, so I'll be reacting blind, and then you'll be reacting blind to the stories that I have. That's right. I can't wait. Shall we do it? Okay, before we get into today's stories, I do want to give a content warning that there are mentions of non-consensual drugging and sexual coercion in this episode. This is called, "My brother, 18 male, has been poisoning my girlfriend 24 female for the past three years." Yep, okay, so this was originally posted in August of 2019 and then we do have an update from as recent as 2025. Oh, wow. Yeah. As context, my girlfriend has always been allergic to lactose, very severely to the point where if she had any traces in her food, she would basically shit herself on the spot ever since she was a kid. Bummer. Such a bummer. She's is so good. The best. Brother and I have always been on good terms and always hung out together until three years ago when I met my girlfriend. He started getting more distant and mean towards me talking about how my girlfriend was ruining our bro ship and taking me away from our family and him. I told him he was crazy and I didn't think too much of it until recently. So going back to three years ago, when I introduced Katie to my parents, my brother was livid. I moved out about six months later because I was tired of his constant bitching about her coming over when she would hang out and sleep over him. Ever since then, we would have family dinners at my parents every month on Sundays. My family is Italian, so we eat a lot of pasta and sauce, but my parents always made two separate meals ever since they met Katie. One with no milk or lactose-free milk for Katie and then one for the rest of us, probably very heavy on the dairy. They must really like her. Right. That's nice. She never had any issues unless there was accidental cross-contamination, which sure that happens every once in a while. But the problem was, every month, at those dinners, all of a sudden, she started getting sick to the point of having to run to the bathroom and having excruciating diarrhea for an hour with severe cramps. Which poor woman. I know. Every single time. It was to a point that I started refusing to go to these dinners and my parents kept insisting that we give it another try. We did, and it was fine for a few months, but then it started again. This goes on and off for about two and a half years. I got really mad last week and got up in the middle of the dinner and said to my parents, something is up and someone is messing with Katie's food. My parents go quiet and they asked why I would say that. My brother then turned rather pale and stopped smiling. I knew instantly it was him. I confronted him and he started crying saying that he felt like he had to get payback at her because she stole away his big brother and that wasn't fair. He said he was adding milk to the batch of food that was made for her and that he had no regrets. I was absolutely livid as was Katie. She excused herself, asked me to drive her back to our place and it has been three months. Since that last dinner, she has cut contact with my parents. Katie refuses to talk to them anymore because they should have had my brother in check and given him a worse punishment because he literally just got a talking to and a smack behind the head and that was it. She can't believe that I haven't stopped talking to my parents and brother as well. My parents on the other hand are mad that we let this little incident break up our relationship with the family and my girlfriend says if I keep contacting them and insisting she forgives my brother, she's going to leave. I love this girl to death. We've got plans to buy a house eventually and have kids. But on the other hand, I love my parents but I can't have both. It seems like what should I do? Okay. Why is she blaming the parents? There's something deeply wrong with the 18-year-old. We're going to get there. But I don't think it's fair to ask him to cut off contact with the parents. The brother I understand. Yeah. It does seem like they're deeply enmeshed family and maybe there's just more. If the parents are texting Katie and defending the brother all the time, I would understand being like, "I need distance from them." But yeah, the brother is. No, it's messing with her health and having no regrets. Also, maybe she's upset because it's like, "How did you guys not put this together? Why did you keep insisting that I try this over and over again?" It's like, "Were you guys just turning a blind eye to what was going on?" Yeah. And at a certain point, it's like, "Why didn't she just bring her own food?" I was just going to say. Two and a half years of that, I would be bringing my own food that I prepared and I just would be like, "I'm going to serve myself." I've gone to restaurants before and brought my own food. I feel like something more proactive could have gone on. I feel like she might be resentful at her boyfriend for forcing her to keep trying. She might have had suspicions that he brushed off. It could be. The original poster could be omitting some culpability, which is what it kind of sounds like. Yes. Because there's some pieces missing. And so there are a couple of comments, and then we have a couple of updates. But one of the comments was, "Your brother is an evil, selfish, petty little fuck, and you should distance yourself from him until he grows a fuck up." You didn't ruin your bro ship with him. He did. And then someone else wrote and quoted the original poster saying, "My girlfriend says if I keep contacting them and insisting she forgives my brother, she's going to leave me." The commenter said, "I don't blame her. Why would she want to forgive or speak to people who would sweep your brother's horrible behavior under the rug?" My parents had to know he was doing it. That's why they asked you why you thought that, instead of immediately denying it. She has a choice to either stay away from them entirely or leave their relationship. I do think there are other options, kind of like you're saying. You could split the difference, but yeah. Again, here's the thing, dysfunction in families can't really see their dysfunction. And this poster is part of that dysfunction. And downplaying to some degree what's happened is a problem. Letting the parents who may have been. in denial, like it's all a problem. And I think he's not gonna admit that, right? Because the original poster is the one telling this from his perspective and not the victims. - I'm also very curious about this relationship with his brother, like it's bordering on obsessive. - Feels like very needy. - Yeah. - And very, I've just never heard of anything like that. Like it makes me think that the brother has something else going on, the younger brother who's the one poisoning in this situation. - Sort of the situation in like twin relationships where like one twin gets a boyfriend and it like sort of messes up the twin. - The dynamic, yeah. - But not with like this age difference. It seems very weird. - I'm obsessed with twins marrying twins. - Yeah. - They go to conventions. - There's a convention for this? - Yeah, and a lot of the times they like meet each other and marry each other through these conventions. - I wanna go to a twin. - Do you have any twins in your family? - I do. Siblings that are twins, Boy and Girl, and then I'll have cousins that are identical twins. - My dad's an identical twin. - Really? - My stepmom is a twin. - Wow. - Yeah. - Okay, I have an update. The original poster wrote, I read over 200 comments from you guys and it just validated my mind that my family is fucked up. I contacted my mom and confronted her about why she would defend my idiotic brother and she basically said he was young and stupid. I told her a few of your comments and that Katie could press charges and my mom broke down crying, saying my brother won't do it again. And I said, yeah, hell no, he won't because I have decided to cut them off for good. Katie was actually relieved when I told her I was on her side and cut them off. Basically told me she was going to dump me for being an idiot who couldn't support his girlfriend of three years when she was basically being tortured for fun. I'm glad she didn't and that we're getting through this together. Thank you for every comment. When you're faced with this kind of dilemma and you've been close to your family for over 20 years, you do get blindsided. That's a similar to what you're saying. Katie and I officially cut them out starting today. We planned to move to the US next year. We've always wanted to live there and finally be away from them. I think that's a good point that he included where it's like tortured her. He was watching her suffering every time. It's not like, oh, she eats it and she feels a little sick later when she goes home. Like he was watching her suffer for two years. It's really insidious. Word of the week for me. I've been using it all the time. But it is. It's very malicious for somebody to be like getting off, on hurting someone in a repeated way. And I'm glad that they didn't let the brother win because the brother was trying his whole purpose of doing this was to get Katie and the original poster to break up. And if they had, he would have won. And it would have validated him being like, I did the right thing. I got what I wanted. And he probably would continue doing things like that. But now he has to face the consequences of, he doesn't have a relationship with the brother anymore, right? OK, we have an update. This came in 2025 people were, because a lot of people were asking questions. So do you ever end up moving? Are you still in no contact? Have your parents or brother ever made an effort to apologize? An original poster wrote, we actually never ended up moving to the US, but did go no contact. It's been a roller coaster. We kept it no contact, but it really fucked up the family dynamic. Katie and I got married in between. It has been hard, but no. We have no further information about my brother or family. My mom has kept trying to reach out, but we blocked her and did not respond. It's just so sad. Sometimes you have to be the one to end a cycle of dysfunction. And sometimes that is your only chance. And for them to take you seriously, because family systems are so reliant on one another. Like you never think a family member will cut you off, because it's just like your family, your family. It's like, family doesn't mean you have to put up with abuse. So agreed. Agreed. In this story, like, this is abuse. What was described? Yeah. And the original poster has now created his own family with Katie. That's right. Broke the cycle. Where they don't poison people they love. That's right. Are we ready for our seconds? Scary, dark story of poison. Let's do it. [MUSIC PLAYING] Happy Halloween, Crime House listeners. I'm Vanessa Richardson. [MUSIC PLAYING] My mother has poisoned me. This is a throwaway account. Ever since I became an adult about a decade ago, my mother has been against me moving out of the house. I finally got a job as a line cook three years ago. My mother and the rest of my family, which includes my sister and father, has been against it, mainly saying that that job can't sustain me, which was true. They also said that I'd hate working, which turned out to be false. About a year and a half later, I quit due to health reasons. Wait, I'm sorry. But they would hate working. So they're trying to make sure that this child never works and lives at home forever. They don't want them working. And they're discouraging the working. OK. Red five are ready, but true. Yes. The following spring, I got a new job as a computer programmer. So original posters like getting a shit together, which is great. While they seem supportive at first, my mother and sister, who I lived with, gradually became hostile. Eventually moved out of the house. About a month later, I lost my job, kind of abruptly. And about three months later, I moved back home. Everything was cool at first, but as I was getting calls from recruiters and going to job interviews, they gradually became more hostile again, accusing me of being distant and not caring for them. They seem to be very controlling and hateful of the fact that I wanted to move out and wanted a decent job. So last month, I finally got that job as a programmer again. But it was out of town. I just enough money to relocate to the new city. They became very hostile, starting a few days before I left, accusing me of not loving them, of hating them. And on the day before, I was scheduled to leave my mother, gave me two of the Styrofoam ramen noodle cups and tore that cardboard covering that's normally on it and threw it away. I was suspicious that they would try to sabotage my life by this point. So I was careful in not trying to anger them. She gave me a few more food items, which I didn't use, to take on the trip with me. When I arrived at my new city and entered my hotel room, I chilled out. I was to go to work the next day. So after the first day at work, I ate a cup of ramen noodles and I felt sick. I knew that feeling because my sister fed me something that made me feel the same way in late 2011. What is up with this family? I don't know, it gets crazier, though. Which I then assumed was because of my recent illness. I felt weak, lightheaded, and short of breath. I drank water to make me feel better, because that's what I did the last time it happened to me. I was short on cash, then, waiting for my first paycheck. I suspected then that I had been poisoned. And after doing some googling, I believed it was cyanide. Now, that is something that you should never have. I know. I'm not okay. It's crazy. It gets so crazy. And also because we all know, and it says it on all food products, if it's been opened to not consume something, because you presume it's been tampered with or whatever. But when it's coming from your mother-- Yeah. I would never question them putting poison. I know. It's insane. Sometimes you hear stories of other people's misfortune, and it really puts them to perspective like your life. And my family is a little bit crazy, but I feel grateful that they're not to this extent. He's seeing a pattern here where it's like they're trying to disrupt my ability to get a job, to move out. Clearly, the sister's still living at home. And the OP already has a history of being poisoned by someone in this family. But they said it's like they didn't want to think that first. And that's what he says here. OP continues. Now, being poisoned by your family is something that you should never have to think. Your own mother would do that to you. So I resisted that thought, because I simply could not bear to think it. So I got a cyanide test in order to kit, and I tried it. Here are the results of my test. Do we have photo? Yeah. So it definitely was positive. And the original poster posted this in the Reddit thread and linked it. So they're giving a lot of information and evidence about what's going on. Now they say, now I guess I'm going to call the cops, and never switch my family again. Obviously, they're agonized over this. And then they give an update. So I'm not sure what time the first post was made. But the OP labels the update as 8.45 AM. So maybe like the day before. But the update is this. I'm currently in Topeka, Kansas. I work downtown in a government office building, which has a police department. I visited the capital police station there and spoke to an officer and showed them my evidence so far and said that he could do nothing about it since the package was opened. And I assume like the ramen noodles. And also, isn't it out of state or it's out of town far enough away that where is the jurisdiction? Yeah. Well, what they're saying the police is arguing is that there's like a chain of custody problem, where it's like, OK, well, what if it was tampered with before your mom [BLANK_AUDIO]
it for you. Like, what if it was tampered with? What if it had signite in it from the factory? Like, there's no way to know that when it was put in, right? Isn't that the point of an investigation? Sure. So, it gets really interesting in the comments. So, one of the first comments, it's so funny that the commenters went here first. They were like, let your employers know. You don't have to tell them the whole story. You just have to say to them, my family is whack, if they call and tell you something, confirm it with me at first. So, the commenters start immediately suggesting that the previous times that he's been fired is because of them. And it's so funny, because, you know, OP said that this was a throwaway account. Throwaway accounts literally poisoned by my mom. So, OP says, I've always wondered if they had anything to do with me being released from my last job. I'm a really good programmer and I wasn't really given a clear reason for why I was like, oh, it's so, it's crazy to me that I, not to say like, I understand it in a sense of it gets forgivable, but I understand sabotage in that way if you're trying to be possessive of someone. But if you want to keep someone in your life, poisoning them is so extreme because that could very easily lead to death. Well, interestingly, in the comments, like, this was one of the most active OP's I've ever seen, like, because they respond to all the questions and like, a lot, someone's like, why would your mother want you dead? And OP responds like, "Munchausen by proxy." I suspect. He's like, because he said he left his first job due to health problems. And he went home. Yeah. And he was struggling with health problems. He said in these comments, like, his whole life. So sometimes it's literally just like an addiction for the child to continue needing the parent, because sometimes it's not just about keeping them close to home. It's like, literally needed, right? So that could be part of it. He starts to like, come around to that on his own. Some people say, you know, I hate to sound like an asshole, but if anyone tried to poison me, but your ass would be calling the cops. But seriously, I thought of the phrase, I brought you into this world. I suppose it's only fitting that I take you out of it. I thought that was only in the movies. This is a commenter. Call the police. Get that bitch charged. Get yourself checked out at the hospital. Also, until you have proof that the rest of your family were involved, don't shut them out just yet, but remain suspicious. So OP responds to that and says, I've been on your side of hearing crazy stories many times. And I reacted the same way that you did, but it's totally different when it's being done by your own family against you. You lose rationality. I know what they did was very evil and that they deserve to rot in jail. However, my familial attachment to them still makes me not want to believe that they would do such a thing. And that of course, you know, your mom loves you. I'm just going to have to be strong. I mean, I would recommend like, the first thing I would do is go to the doctor and find out what else is in your system. So a lot of people are also saying like, you need a better test. Yeah. That there can be false positives. One commenter says you need to get a hair test. So cyanide stays in your hair follicles for years and can be dated. Yeah. Pists test blood tests can be inaccurate. From my chem class in college, I think my professor told us that the false positive rate can be high. Original poster says, do you have any idea how I can get one done? They seem pretty proactive about this. Now, there's an update. Okay. A couple of months later. Okay. My mother has poisoned me part two. I posted this a few months ago, then they link the original post. I was only able to file a police report, but only that so far. The police do not have enough evidence to investigate. I've gone no contact with my family. I currently live in a cheat motel into a peak of Kansas. Yesterday, after getting home from work, I worked for the Kansas State government as a software developer. The lady at the front desk told me that my mother called them looking for me and to speak to me. For security reasons, the motel needed both my name and my room number in order to like patch them in or you know, give them more information about the guest at the motel. And my mother didn't have the room number. She didn't attempt to call my cell phone at all, which makes me believe that she just wanted to know if I'm staying there. So this morning, I leave a little earlier than usual. The sky was still in the early twilight phase. I take the bus to work because my car blew a gasket. As I was going towards the bus stop, I saw someone in a strange car. And beckoning me over like waving me over to talk to me. I looked but kept on walking. Then she opened the car door and she was in a black outfit in a hood really strange for my mother. Then I knew it was her when I saw her face. She told me to come here. I said, no, I kept a good distance. She said that she just wanted to know if I was okay. So I said, yes, I'm okay. But she is a gun owner and a good shot. This is horrifying. Yeah. In the comments, especially on the update or so interesting too. She routinely kicked all of our asses in duck hunt when we were little and still power owned us when playing weed games with the gun controller. So I ended up taking another bus to get to my job. So when I got off work, this is what they're asking. When I get off work, what's the best way to go home? Should I even go? What should I do? I really think that it might not be safe for me in Topeka. So if anyone knows any.NET development jobs, please PM me. I just need advice. So the comment section is like go to the police, make another incident report, don't interact if you see her again. Tell them how tall you're. So you get a restraining order? Yeah. People are trying to help. I'll help you find a job. People are very invested in this story. It is devastating. Because you see someone who's really trying to start a life for themselves. Yeah. And one person says, I remember reading original post, what a scary and horrible situation to be in. It sounds like that you don't have enough evidence that you try to murder you. Your best case of action would be to file a restraining order. But like, I don't even think he would be given a restraining order. Like, there's not enough. No. Because like, you don't have any proof. Like, you need like verbal threats documented. Like, your mom showing up and saying, I want to make sure, okay, in a dark hood. It's like in another, another interesting thing that was like coming up in these comments, most people were very supportive. A few people, and I thought was so interesting, started to suspect that this person may be suffering from paranoid delusions that the OP is. Yeah. Because some people are like, this is too insane to like, not saying that like, maybe they did poison them. But like, you know, you just don't know, like some people's like, reality gets so warped. Especially on Reddit, you never really know. Right. I mean, but it's like that one story we read where the OP seemed like the asshole. And then you got the perspective from the co-workers. And then it was like, oh, shit. Yeah. Well, it was like because he was in that workplace relationship. And then someone who worked with them came back and said, that man is not mentally competent enough to be in a relationship. And it got like, you got this whole other perspective. But one more comment just response from OP, I want to touch on, they just get into the weeds about when really this stuff started like early 20s when he was trying to get out of the house. Then he talked about his mom encouraging him to be on welfare, but then would take the money. There's a lot, a lot of minutia here that feels very real. Yeah. It's just fascinating and devastating. But there were no updates after that. What was the year of the last update? I mean, all of these occurred a long time ago. This is a 13 year old story. But people are still checking in hoping like they'll get an update. Crazy. I wish it was easier to find. I know the whole point of red is like, give me your real identity. But yeah, I wish we could find them. I know because like, I'd love to know what happened. At least by then, though, OP had already cut off his family. So he's like one step in the right direction. Well, now I'm also worried about the sister who also he said lives at home because she deals with stuff too. He accused her of poisoning. Right, too. But if it's a pattern, is the mom poisoning the sister and just everyone? Maybe it wasn't even the sister, though. Maybe the mom poisoned whatever the sister made for the OP. Yeah. Or maybe like their two peas in a pod. There was like a true crime story where there's like a family of five siblings. They did a whole documentary about it. I wish I could remember their names. And all the siblings like died. And the mom and one daughter were like poisoning everybody and killing everybody. And then when the mom got desperate, when the cops were closing it on them, she tried to kill the last daughter who was like, she turned on her with Annie Freeze. It was like a huge story. Should we be like, should people have to take a test to be a parent? Yes. Yes. I don't know. Yes. I know there are problems with that. But yeah, you can take a class. Yeah. Whatever. Interesting. Crazy, right? Yeah. Horrifying. Yeah. Have you ever been? I hope not, but have you ever been poisoned? No. Or like graffiti or anything? Maybe. Really? Maybe there's one night I can think of that doesn't my level of intoxication doesn't make sense. Yeah. All my friends were there. Actually, we joke about it. They said I was like, they said it was like an astronaut. Like in one of those spacesuits with the hose attached to it bouncing on the moon. Like it's the joke that I was like an astronaut that night. And I was like, I don't understand what happened. Yeah. Because I only had a couple of drinks. Yeah. And I can put them back. That shouldn't have happened. Yeah. So maybe
- Maybe, but like nothing bad happens, so I never really interrogated it too deeply. - How about you? - I have not that I know of. I don't think I have fortunately, but I know a girl who was literally stabbed with a needle with a crazy concoction of drugs at a bar. I think of his overseas in Europe somewhere, yet with a needle. - Was she okay? - Yeah, but she, 'cause she felt it right after it happened and immediately went to her friends and they took her to the hospital. But she was like in and out of consciousness for a while and they like did a test to see what was injected in her. And it was like a concoction of basically date rate drugs. - Thank God she was sober enough to feel it and not brush it off. - Yeah. - Because you might feel like a pinch sometimes, maybe like what the fuck was that? - She was wearing jeans too, like through her pants. - Yeah. - Well, they probably did it on purpose, so they couldn't look and see if there was like a needle like a prick. - Yeah, yeah. - 'Cause if you have bare legs, you could be like so scary. - Terrifying. - So scary. - Did you ever hear about the selfie that solved a murder or the jury that used a Ouija board to speak to a victim? If that made you pause, you need to listen to Morning Cup of Murder. And remember, stay safe. - All right. This last story really. I don't even have like words for how it makes me feel, it's upsetting in so many ways. One, because of what happens, but two, also because this person, somehow still works in law enforcement. - Oh, it's law. - After this. Law enforcement's involved. - Yes. - Okay. - Be a doozy, I can feel it. - It is called Am I overreacting? Girlfriend put Viagra in my drink without telling me. This happened a while ago, but it still deeply bothers me. I've talked to a handful of my friends about it and their response has been, dude, you must be gay or you lucky dog. I don't see what the problem is, which concerned about your friends. But so for context, my now ex-girlfriend and I are both law enforcement for the same department. I worked nights, she worked days, so our schedules were kind of hectic sometimes. One night she came to my apartment, and when I got home, she put a boba tea in my hand and told me to drink it. I'm not a fan of boba, so I told her, thank you, that sweet, but I'd rather have something else. She acted really disappointed and was very adamant that I should drink it. I didn't wanna make her feel bad, since I thought she was just trying to do something nice for me, so I took a few sips and I set it down. She picked it up off the counter, put it back in my hand and said, you need to drink all of it. Etter, fine. So we went to lay down and watch a movie where I set the cup on my nightstand, but didn't touch it again. We ended up having sex a few times, and at some point I got up and went to the kitchen to grab a drink. When I opened my trash can to throw something away, I saw a medication blister pack sitting on top of the garbage. At first, I didn't think anything of it, but then I remembered how adamant she was about me finishing that drink, and I started to get a weird feeling and everything clicked. I picked this blister pack up and sure enough, it was packaging for Viagra. I immediately got this overwhelming feeling of being violated, 'cause he was. I didn't know what to say, I was honestly pretty hurt, but not wanting to let my immediate emotions lead me into saying something I would regret. I held my tongue and went to bed. The next day she texted me saying I seemed off, so I decided to confront her by asking about the drink. She initially denied it all, but when I sent her a picture of the rapper I had found, she just responded with the kissy face emoji. As if it was some cute romantic act. It turned into a huge argument because she just couldn't comprehend why this was bothering me so much, saying it's basically just vitamins, and that she originally got the idea from an episode of Bob's Burgers. There's so much wrong with this, but what finally sent me over the edge was the text, which we have a photo of and I'll read it in a minute, where she thought I was mad because I felt emasculated and that her and her roommate, who was also a police officer, came up with the whole plan while I was at work, because I had previously that day told her how busy my day was and that I couldn't wait to display down. She was worried I'd be too tired to have sex, so her roommate's boyfriend gave her the pill, which is so fucked up. It's just all weird. It's so icky. It's all so strange and sad. Have a conversation. Well, no, it's just like, first of all, the first thing that impressed me is that when people are angry and I would confront someone right away because I can't, yeah. The fact that men can just go to sleep, compartmentalized like that's insane. I do appreciate that he was like, my emotions are too high now and because we love an emotionally regulated king. We do, but yeah, 'cause he probably knew himself and was like, I'm not going to be able to have a coherent conversation right now. Yeah. Then the Bob's Burgers, I mean, strange. Yeah. Then the two police officers conspiring, then her being a police officer, not thinking it's problem to poison somebody and truck somebody against their will. Yeah. I tried to further my point by trying to reverse it and said if I had done something to her and she reported to professional standards, which is basically an internal affairs, I would have been fired and most likely arrested. And her response was basically, well, I would never report it, which I took as her trying to convince me not to report it. But it's such a good point, like if roles were reversed. Yeah. Yeah. Our relationship ended soon after when on a trip to Peru, this part, okay. This is like just tickles my spooky side. On a trip to Peru, a doctor used a guinea pig to absorb all this negative energy from my ex-girlfriend before sacrificing the guinea pig because they needed to rid the negativity. Aw. But apparently the doctor told her the guinea pig said that I was a source of negativity in her life, so she broke up with me. Feel bad for the guinea pig. I do too, but I know that it's like a ritual that they do there. They eat guinea pigs and Peru. Did they eat it? Yeah. But the fact that the Peru doctor picked up on negative energy in her, they were spot on with that. Hell yeah. Oh, he was like, I wish I was making this up, but that's a story for another post. Anyhow, am I overreacting for letting this turn into such a big problem? Or was she genuinely just trying to make a romantic gesture? Which, and I'm going to read the texts exchange between them, but I think we can all agree that is not a romantic gesture in any way. Okay, the ex-girlfriend text says, "You don't understand how much I feel. I am very fucking empathetic. Even when I don't agree with your point of view, I understand it. I know you felt emasculated and hurt that I put something in your drink. That was wrong of me. Even if it wasn't vitamins, I should not have done it. I honestly caved in. I was talking to, and the name's blurred, but I guess it was the friend about seeing you that day and how tired you were probably going to be. And her boyfriend overheard in long story short, they gave me that package and told me I should crush it and put it in your drink and I did. OP responds, "It's okay. I forgive you for valuing sex more than my feelings that night." Girlfriend responds, "I didn't value sex more than your feelings. You didn't drink it. We had sex a couple of times, and I stopped initiating sex." He goes, "No, that's exactly what you did. The fact that I didn't drink it is irrelevant. You've absolutely no idea how fucked up that was and are just now apologizing for it. If I had done that to you and you went to PSU, I'd be fired and in jail right now." She responds, "I would have never gone to PSU." It doesn't sound like he did either. No, but maybe we should. Well, we have an update. Oh! Yeah. But her first text of, "You don't understand how much I feel. I'm very fucking empathetic. I know you felt emasculated." I'm like, him feeling emasculated has nothing to do with this. No thing to do with this. He hasn't, at least not in his post. And also in those texts, that's not what he seems focused on. Right. He wasn't even defensive about that. No. An emasculated person would be defensive about that. Yeah. And also, like, if you want to have sex with your partner and they're going to come home and be tired, well, first of all, if they had a long day at work, they would have every right to come home and be tired and go to sleep. Yeah. As he should. But if you feel like you're missing intimacy in your relationship, that needs to be a conversation and sex has to be consensual. Yeah. 100%. I mean, literally there's no other, there's no situation where it should not be consensual. Absolutely. OK. So comments. You are not overreacting. If a male friend of yours or a male family member came to you saying they're girlfriend of this, how would you react to it? It isn't right or OK, dude. I think it's a proper reaction that she is now your ex because what she did was just plain wrong. She could have communicated with you about potentially taking it in the future in order to be intimate together instead of slipping it into your drink. And then they edited it being like, isn't this a form of assault? You would know better working in law enforcement. OP wrote, the thing is the way the law is written in my state, it is gender specific. When I did report it, she resigned. But after consulting with prosecutors and magistrates, and pouring over the verbiage of the law for my state, we came to the realization and as a man.
I cannot be a victim of any type of date rape or rape. And again, we don't know where this is but Magistrate makes me think. I can see how it would be a little. Now, Magistrate can be like, you know how some states have like. I mean, Boston, I think they're, it's parishes and like. Oh, no, Louisiana, it's parages. Boston, it's like Massachusetts has a name for. Interesting. Like in South Carolina, it has Magistrate judges too. So it's, it sounds like it's in the U.S., but so another person commented saying "Viagra can have serious side effects." That's why people need to go to a doctor and get evaluated before they prescribed it. That's super fucked up to give someone drugs without consent. And that part is definitely illegal. And she works in law enforcement. What the fuck? Well, and that's the thing. It's like this is seems okay, not okay, but like he's okay, right? But some men have heart attacks on Viagra, you know, like there's 100%. Like if he wasn't okay, he, this would be murder. Like if he died, you know? So. And then a lot of our people were saying in the comments, like, I don't even care if it's vitamin C, don't be putting shit in my drink. Yeah. Agreed. 100%. You should have full control of what you're putting inside your body. Yep. We did get a follow-up. And OP said, "My ex managed to get hired by another agency, even in the same county, even with the investigation being in her file. I've said it a few times on this post, but I think it's worth mentioning again. I completely understand why people hate cops. When someone like her can still get a job as one after this incident, it's disgusting. It is. It's horrifying. Yeah. That this person is protecting us. Yeah. It's not great. I mean, especially considering her view on breaking, like she didn't see that as a problem. And like, it sounds like an entitlement issue, where it's like, why do you think you can do that? Yeah. It's just definitely laps in judgment. And that's not great if you're carrying a gun and wield power over people. And isn't really taking accountability at all, either. Yeah. It's not good. And like, let's talk about the roommate that they suggested it according to her, which might not be true. Sure. But like, they came up with it together. Like, the way that it seemed like they were like laughing about it, this is a funny idea. Yeah. Bizarre. Now, I'm also curious what episode of Bob's Burgers this is. I know. Like, what did they do on Bob's Burgers to trigger this idea for her? Probably that. Just seems like no respect. It's like, if someone's tired after work, they're tired after work. Yeah. Like, grow up. This is a little bit of a pivot. But last night at dinner, I saw the man who voices SpongeBob. Really? Well, I saw the back of his head. How do you know what that man looks like? Kaelin Moore of Clues Podcast and Heart Starts Founding was like, that guy voices SpongeBob. How did she know? I don't know. Big SpongeBob fan. That's the thing. I don't know who anyone looks like who voices cartoons because I never see them. It kind of tracks that Kenny. That's kind of what I would think. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Just a little lighthearted note to end. Yeah. Okay. Before we say goodbye. Well, that's an interesting, different kind of poisoning. You don't even mean like the other ones were to harm. That one was to get control over somebody. And you know what it reminded me of, like, how deep did you get into the Epstein files? Pretty deep. So there are accusations in there that accusations, accusations, unconfirmed, unsubstantiated accusations, that Epstein claimed that he distanced himself from Bill Gates because he was cheating on Melinda Gates with a young woman from overseas that he contracted an STD in that he then there's an email. I did not show this to you. There's an email exchange. And again, unsubstantiated, Epstein alleges that Gates tried to get medication. And to cure an STD, he gave Melinda that she didn't know she had to slip it in her food to cure it so she wouldn't find out he was cheating. This is all over the Epstein files, allegedly unsubstantiated. Bill Gates has made a statement. He denies the allegations. Well, of course, he would deny that allegation. He says they're completely false. But he was allegedly cheating with like a backgammon champion or something from overseas. Allegations of truth. That reminds me a lot of, I don't know if you've read this book. It's called Blitzed. But I've heard of it. And it's all about during World War II and Nazi Germany how they use drugs on a lot of the Nazi soldiers to like make them more malleable or just like control them. Even they change the frequency of radio to do that as well. I've heard stories of, and I'm not, I don't remember which war, which countries that they would give soldiers cocaine to, to keep them awake to make them aggressive. Yeah, that's crazy. But our country does it too. Yes. Yeah. I mean, we're not, you know. We're okay. Allegations on this be cheated. This is maybe the closest I've gotten to someone poised name when we were in high school. And it's not me. But when we were in high school, my friend, his parents were out of town. And so he wanted to throw a party at his house. But his younger sister was one of those like goody two shoes probably would have told his parents immediately, types of kids. Nothing wrong with that. But so he decided to make them dinner and he put Nyquil in her pasta so that she would sleep through the party. Did it work? No. It didn't work. And also Nyquil has such a strong flavor. Yes. That pasta was probably disgusting. But man, do you sleep well when you take Nyquil? I do. I have weird dreams when I take Nyquil. Me too. Any like PM medication. Yeah. Like since you brought that up, what are your thoughts on like spiking punch and like weed and brownies without telling people like that's also sort of the same thing when you don't tell people it's not cool. And it's been like downplayed, you know, like I feel like that became just like a trope and teenage movie and things like that. But when you think about it, it's actually so dangerous. It's so dangerous. Yeah. It also goes back to like, you don't know if someone could be alert like Corinne who had due to girls with is allergic to weed. So if she ate a pot brownie, I don't think she would die. But there are probably people who they would die from it. You don't know. Yeah. I think everyone should know what they're consuming. Yes. Yeah. You're like, we're not saying anything new, but it's still it's like some things are just considered not that serious when they really are when you unpack it. No poisoning people. Yeah. Wow. That was a good one. I feel like every time we do these. Absolutely. That was shockingly good. Yeah. But also shockingly horrifying how many crimes are just being committed by people every day that unfortunately, like the law isn't preventing or or or there's nothing to do. Yeah. Yeah. Podcast Summary
Key Points:
A Reddit user shares a story of their 18-year-old brother poisoning their girlfriend with milk, exploiting her severe lactose allergy over three years, leading to physical suffering and emotional trauma.
Another user recounts being poisoned by their mother through tampered ramen noodles, suspecting cyanide, with evidence and a positive test result, ultimately cutting off contact with the family.
A third story involves a former romantic partner secretly adding Viagra to the user’s drink without consent, highlighting issues of consent, manipulation, and professional misconduct, especially given both were law enforcement officers.
The episodes reveal how poisoning—whether physical or psychological—often stems from familial control, possessiveness, or a desire to undermine autonomy.
Multiple cases show a pattern of denial, minimization, and lack of accountability from family members or close associates, especially when power dynamics are involved.
The stories underscore the importance of consent, transparency, and personal agency in relationships, especially when trust and health are at stake.
Commenters emphasize that such acts are deeply abusive, with some comparing them to Munchausen by proxy or institutionalized control.
The narratives collectively highlight how toxic family dynamics and emotional manipulation can mimic love or care, making it difficult to identify abuse until it's too late.
