He's a very inquisitive human being like Tom has every time I've talked to him, has like a genuine interest. And like who you are, why you do what you do, how you do it. And it lends itself really, really well to this type of format podcasting, especially when you get them in person, man. So it was awesome to obviously talk about his movie Digger coming up. We were more than happy to talk about that because we loved both screening that movie. I'm trying to think of like what I wish we would have asked him about. And I don't know. I wanted to ask him about all the right moves and whether whether or not that was the first. The first time he had ever put on football pads. We didn't even ask him if he played ball. Yeah. And the Sandman is out there with his like hip pads. The pants. First of all, the pants don't even fit. The knee pads are like down by the shins. The like thigh pads are like just above the knee. You had those at Roxborough Middle School, right? 100%. You would have to put them in the. You had the girdle underneath. But we always put them over, though. I always put my jersey and pants over. Ogletree from the from the Colts had one on, too. It's definitely still in it where the jersey comes over it. But the fucking the one that like was like this dude is reckless and he is fucking batshit crazy is the one that just used to be a backboard. Yeah, just a backboard. You can't move your head at all. Your head is just stuck. Do you? So you don't need to look right or left. You're just going straight. It's like a horse blinders. Mobility is not important. Just being able to run through somebody and not break your neck is important. Anybody with that thing was fucking shit up. People love the line of scrimmage talk with Tom. The football talk. I think we should do more football talk with more of our guests. We get a lot of people from entertainment that I think sometimes we try to really highlight their careers and things that we think you guys would be interested in. what man that colts team you better not sleep on them yeah they can play some fucking football man um they got good d line good old line great running back they're wide receivers man danny dobbs they seem like they're all on the same page they got keenan allen over there always always finding a way to get open and underneath and you know they got good tight ends warren tyler warren is another one he's he's all all around football player you know he can inline block he can stick his face in the fan and uh and block in line and then on top of that man he's he's a force with the ball and you know he's always gonna he's always gonna finish downhill in terms of when he gets hit so um that's that's a good football team man but i'll tell you what i couldn't be more proud of how our team reacted to to the to the level of play that they were playing at they came out wanted the ball got seven early we came out did the same thing it was just it was there was never a doubt in our mind that we were gonna go and do our job and obviously we got to clean a lot of things up there's there's always something to do better uh especially when you have when you take a team into the last second into overtime to beat them um and we got to put up more touchdowns you know our defense is doing a good job holding them in the third or fourth quarter something like that and uh we had opportunities to really you know put our foot on the gas pedal and run away with it but the way we're playing football how we're playing together how we're showing up in big moments on big third downs can't say enough about taekwon thornton coming up huge on a couple big time third downs and the way kenneth walker is is leading our team right now in the run game man it's uh that kind of energy is infectious yes and and it's uh it's it's it's leading us right now it's it's making us play that much harder for him yeah what do you think is the biggest reason like obviously last year the slow start oh and two all of a sudden two and oh this year looks like a completely different team what is it as simple as adding kenneth walker is there more to that it looks like more on the center the offense has changed quite a bit it just feels like there's a lot more unity and uh you know it may be just the the the over the summer and all the acquisitions that we got not only the players but the coaches but just in and of themselves in the building the determination and the mindset there's there's there's a there's a different feel from how we go to work during the week yeah just our our chemistry in the locker room and on the field and uh and everybody's just kind of playing off of each other and it's a fun game when you're doing that man and you get everybody all in on on the the guys next to him success and zone you gotta defend that's why i think but this that's why i think you gotta defend the end zone that's why i think eight is harder because the end zone is shrinking that distance where they were at i'm saying i probably still would have gone for it too i guess maybe i don't know what i've done it's easy for me to say now i would have gone for it but i think if it's fourth and five there's a little bit more space with how condensed that area is because the end zone fourth and eight those safeties aren't gonna be backing up very much man because of where it was in relation i think they're gonna be if you think about red zone defenses the hardest ones are the ones that are playing in the end zone and keeping everything in front yeah because they don't want anything in the like to give up in the end zone i think the safeties would have been in the end zone but i think those hooked to curl players would have been sitting at eight and there's not going to be any space because of the condensed i don't know i don't know man i don't know i think i think because you're so close to the red zone you could you got to quarterback that can sling it tight windows a red zone a good like a good red zone kind of defenses keep everything in front and even the underneath guys back up to like they used to call it red zone seven where the guys would literally just sit right on the goal line and just keep everything in front of them but i think that they would have treated that like the first down marker and then and the safeties would have been behind either way you i'll defer to you because you know way more about coverages i just thought where they were at in the field makes for a lot of fourth and eight even harder as opposed to being like if it would have been fourth and eight from the 40 it's like oh yeah we'll go for this all day yeah i think fourth and eight over time knowing that you got to score a touchdown to win the game i think you i don't know i would i would be in you can either defer which actually is meaning i want to choose in the second half whether i want the ball or not or you can choose to kick no one ever chooses kick because if you kick in the first half you forfeit your choice in the second half and then the other team can get two extra an extra possession tim tebow i believe did kick i think i think he's notorious for being the only person ever to say kick no no there's been more than that there's that it's actually been such a problem that at the kick at the coin toss now that the ref will like not even guess the same thing that happens this one's a little bit different because like trav said in overtime defer isn't even an option like it's not a choice you can make there's no you either take the ball or you can't there's no second half to the first there's no point in winning the could the toss there's nothing there's nothing to defer to the reason you know you do the reason you defer in the first half is because you want to choose in the second half there's not a second half of overtime so deferring is kind of pointless but that'll help them out in the regular one now too and i'm like dude i kind of i'm on board with it was when you were getting recruited by pittsburgh and we went to that notre dame pit game seeing him in person is like man that's a big son of a buck like running around and just unbelievable at football and to be in the conversations with those guys and like to be in like just that world um obviously i'm not saying that i'm any bit of the same player as those guys but what i'm saying is that it's pretty cool to be in the conversations of a stat like this now obviously i've had unbelievable play calling i've had unbelievable players around me field you don't get this kind of stuff without having the the guys around you to to help you get these yards but at the same time man it's a pretty cool uh pretty cool stat to be a part of it but i think it's pretty cool to be a part of it i think was a huge part of the greatest show on turf because you couldn't just put safeties back there and like the second level guys like dropping coverage because you got to deal with fucking marshall falk underneath dude i always thought when we had similarly when we had darren sproles we would be doing all these things and all this i was like hey guys how about when it's man coverage you just put the ball into darren's hand out in the flat because ain't no fucking chance a 250 pound linebacker is going to tackle that motherfucker in the open space like what are we even talking about right now all right only player in nfl history to record at least 12 000 rushing yards and 6 000 receiving yards in his career marshall falk i mean just the greatest all-purpose back of all time jesus some other highlights we got emmett johnson made three colts tackle themselves let's take a look at this hey oh shit let's fucking go ankles like that man this guy has shown up every single chance he's gotten and he is really opening some eyes man and it's cool to see how he had attacks the day now granted he's got a fucking all pro right in front of him all pro athlete all pro you know what i mean how he handles his job how professionally is in the building how hard he works in practice he's seeing how it's done the right way and how that's being you know i mean reciprocated onto the field all he knows is this so it's cool to see him get that leadership in that room from a guy like kenneth walker but at the same time man he's uh he's taking his opportunities and he's absolutely ran with it and he's fucking having fun out there man he's having fun out there making plays for us man no doubt i mean it's it's been fun watching him and you can only do with the opportunities you're given right and it's awesome to see a guy obviously he's got an incredible player best running back in the league probably through the first two weeks um in front of him but you still you know you got to make do with what you get and he's making the most of the opportunities he is getting it's been great to see all of these new pieces emmett johnson obviously kenneth walker a little d-line running back option how about kairos tonga come on kt yeah come on big dog let's see the big man in action 335 he got that he got that engine running and i was not gonna be denied at all man yeah let's go what's funny is for years you guys have been doing that with a halfback because you don't have a halfback and you and sometimes not even a halfback in the backfield he just moves up into that little offset position and you run the fullback dive play now we actually got one in the game and buddy is coming downhill like a freaking freight train good luck stopping that for a yard my goodness he's done a great job on a lot of the short yardage stuff on just blocking and sure enough man and coach reads offense if you're going to go out there and and and play find a way to get you the ball in a in a situation where you it's it benefits your uh your uh your skill set man fullbacks are coming back and i mean listen this is another example of how much the chief's offense has shifted i mean short yardage this this play hasn't shifted this is a play you guys have been running since andy reed in the dawn of time of him being in kansas city we ran it in philadelphia but so much more is under center so much more now there's a fullback incorporated actual fullback now to makeshift player uh the power you guys are running more power than i think anybody else in the league it looks like um it has been the uh the eagles titans game to be that close but um yeah i don't think anybody wanted it to be that close from philadelphia i'll tell you what a lot of good things to take take out of it though here's the reality i think uh it's hard to win in this league and how you get them they're playing i think there's like a reading it was like 140 or something like that on the turf or some stupid shit like people were pouring water on their fucking cleats it was nuts down there and this is a guy that i mean robert salla he's beating us he beat us with the jets who we all know how good the jets have been right jake and then he also they beat us last year in the playoffs when he was a dc over in uh in san france so salla's defenses have has given us issues and particularly they've given jalen issues in the past which is one of the reasons i was so happy actually in the game to see jalen play so i know he had the early pick six he had another pick where jeffrey simmons almost took his head off while he was throwing it uh that one a little bit more understandable but overall i mean through the two games jalen is the reason why they have won these two games he has played in big moments he's delivering the ball from the pocket he's making big time throws in this game in this game in particular man don tavian wicks going off in both games they obviously have chemistry right away unfortunately goddard goes down he was having a great season up until the uh the injury in this one god i hate that for dallas i i just you know it's been awesome to see jalen uh play the way he against a defense like this that is really all they've done really is rush for push the pocket keep jalen in the pocket and make him throw against his own coverages and he executed so well um so very happy for that part of the game well 26 for 37 for 264 two tubs um that's a pretty damn good game man and like you were saying man when it when it mattered most he was putting the ball where it needed to go getting the ball out well not only when it mattered most but those like they had the running game again, was pretty non-existent like there was so many third down conversions i think they're the number one team in third down yardage this year and a lot of the reason for that is that they have to be they're in third in ridiculous situations at a high clip now i i like i they have nowhere to go but up in first and second down right now but i think what what jalen has done in the circumstances he's been given and how well he's executed i think he's really really well done i'm glad you agree ellie head away girl witty go birds um i want to ask you well hit me so 2 000 yard rusher cyclone barkley what is why is it like to to the fans that are like why isn't it a 2 000 yard rusher every like why is it just you one thing like you know what i mean like why is it 2 000 yards every year yeah like why like what is the what is what do you think is the biggest thing is it just like i mean yeah just it's it's hard to fucking go back to back and have that much success in in the league or let's take the 2 000 yard mark out because i think that's a incredible achievement let's just say a great running game right so from the 2 000 yard rushing season saquon had in his first season with the eagles dating back to really since jalen has been with the philadelphia eagles the eagles were a top five number one number two number three team in the league rushing a big reason for that and this is one thing that i get i get upset with and i i think jeffrey simmons is an amazing player and i get a lot of the analysts that try to evaluate jalen and they say like the quarterback someone a big reason for that run game being so dominant is jalen hurts and he has never gotten enough credit for that he's a big reason why the offense has been able to function and it was way different it was not the complex things that the mcveighs and all these other guys do but it was a really highly functioning offense for a long time now the passing game started to dwindle the last couple years obviously they need to make a change but the quarterback's threat to keep the ball that gives you num all you want in the run game is numbers to where they don't have an extra player and you want angles you want leverage the quarterback being a threat to run the ball gives you that because you have added another player that can keep the ball whether it's a designed run or read and you you can't be predictable with any of it otherwise you're going to get assassinated this is more under center stuff though yeah this is a system this year and last year i really think this is all also one of the reasons they were one of the best running teams the nfl because they're one of the best offensive lines like the offensive line was very healthy for a long time we had a lot of continuity last year we had a lot of continuity and we had a lot of consistency and we had a lot of continuity last year landon dickerson's hurt all over the place cam jurgens is hurt playing johnson misses a bunch of games it's really hard to be a great running team when you have guys in and out of the lineup you have backups playing it's it's difficult no matter who the running back is and what the situation is and then you compile that with jalen hurts not running the ball as much so then teams aren't feeling as threatened in that category so you're not getting the same advantageous looks all of that is why what happened last year this year they're going to a different system now there were more shotgun runs this last week there was more of like the you know one by three you know you got the bubble screen over here and the read like rpos yeah it was they had a little bit more of that in this last week it looked like um but in general the offense is going to be more under center it's more of the sean uh uh mcveigh matt lafleur that whole tree and the way they get numbers and angles is by utilizing formations by utilizing boots and you gain numbers with motions and shifting guys around and improving angles that way so it's just a different way to do it they're still working on it and they're having the same thing happen that happened last year landon dickerson was hurt the first game of this year of the year it didn't go well up front that game now and i feel i really do feel bad for cam jurgens cam has been playing center for the last two years he yeah he played guard right guard uh my last year in 2023 now all of a sudden he's gonna go play left guard against probably the if not the best one of the top two he is a dog that dude is a house he is a fucking you see that man walk onto a football field in his uniform bro you're just like god damn what the fuck are we about to get into today and not only is he a beast he's a very bad matchup for a guy that stature wise really isn't a guard and that's kind of what the eagles have unfortunately in their depth right now land is not in there they don't have another 340 pound man to plug in there and to be a style yeah your options are either slide cam jurgens over you put drew kendall in at guard which they obviously like to do drew at center because cam had played guard at a high level or you put willie lampkin in and willie is very stout but that is another wild card it's really not the best case scenario like they don't have a true guard that has played a lot of snaps in the league that is what you want in the stature of the position and measurables and jeffrey simmons was wreaking havoc man he's a good player i think that's that's a tough situation for cam to be put in you know i thought drew played pretty well uh but everybody kind of had their turn uh but yeah i think cam having to go do that on the road against a premier player like that very tough situation to be put in he prevailed well he prevailed the team prevailed i don't know that's all listen maybe he ain't out there alone i don't give a fuck yeah fuck that he ain't out there alone simmons had his place simmons had his place listen man it's like fuck what are you gonna do shack's gonna be in the paint we gotta figure out a way to win all that being said the run game this year they're still getting used to the if you put on the tape and maybe this is something we can dive into aaron i know we talked about doing some teach tape i'd love to dive into some of these runs and talk i think that they're still getting used to the angles how everything hits uh it is a different offense and every rep you get you just get a little bit better and more dialed in and your aiming point where where the landmark is on the outside zone the guard needs to get on top of the three technique and keep pushing to that front side number right if you go too far it's going to split the double team or get behind you if you go too light little then all of a sudden you're not displacing it enough or he's you're the ball's gonna go to the right side of the line and you're gonna go outside you and he's gonna be there to make the play yes there's so many little such small things that make a big deal in the run game working and another reason the run game is so hard just in general is that everybody's got to be on the same page and run and going in the same lane like listen you got randy moss and you got a good quarterback you're probably gonna have a pretty good passing game all right throw that bitch up to him there's no running game in the league that has one good offensive lineman and one good like they all got to be doing their shit and it's all got to be in sync and i think they're still getting used to that it's become compounded by having to slide cam out to a position that he hasn't played and wasn't comfortable this last week playing a player like jeffrey simmons but i anticipate this to get better i do and i think that once the run what's the most encouraging to me is that if jaylen is playing like this the way he has the two first two weeks that run game gets going it's going to be a very fun offense to watch once that gets improved this season well you guys got another all pro out of wide out might not be randy moss but smitty is a dog slim reaper slim reaper is a dog he had 10 receptions for 117 and a touchdown the guy is just he's so smooth man in his routes and he's and he's he can make every catch there is um it was good to see him get out there and uh and get dirty a little bit it's just good to see jaylen have a connection with a guy out there knowing they lost an unbelievable player in the past game you know and it's good to see him go out there and find somebody connect with somebody um and then still have success in the past game the way they've had these first two games it was hot you're talking about pouring water on cleats it was hot man the everybody the squirt squad was out there was out yeah the squirt squad was out there man i forgot about the squirt squad man oh my gosh that's taking it back to the first year man look at this what is this they they i talked to some of these guys the turf was so hot trav listen this is another reason do so do you know exactly exactly do you know in nashville what the turf is uh i mean it's field turf it's turf no they have a fucking so instead of the rubber pellets i don't know if it's changed changed since since i've last played there instead when she pointed it at the turf i'm like what the fuck how is that even possible you shouldn't be allowed to do that you shouldn't be allowed to put players on a field that does that i think jurgens said he switched cleats maybe like three times or something like i i that's crazy to me why what like why like that's so insane to me that that is allowed like you're allowed to put the product in a situation like that nfl's gotta fucking they gotta figure something out for shit like that that's insane we gotta get some air-conditioned fields come on guys we can we can do it yeah we gotta get something like i understand if the turf drains water but how does it fucking handle heat somebody said in the comments on twitter something like that that you put uh like aluminum foil or tin foil doesn't like it as much as that so got it yeah and like the second she does the thing where like the second you put her down she immediately starts crying even if she was asleep in your arms but so Good, man. We just got together here in New York. I mean, geez, we spent months together. We hadn't seen each other in what? About a month and a half? So now we're going to go out with brothers and talk about it, share it, and declare it, and see hopefully people dig it, and talk to people like yourselves. Let's talk about the show. What are we in store for? What's going on with brothers? Starting off with the inception? Yeah, well, the original concept was like, well, okay, I'll tell you what happened was, in reality, we were in Greece. About nine years ago. Yeah, and Matthew's mom, Momak, we call her, she's, you know, she's about four Kendall Jacksons in. Four Kendalls, and I might have slipped her a little herby-werbies. She took her off with wood earlier. Which wasn't the fourth time they've done that. Yeah, the very first time. We set off a fire alarm, but that's another one. My mom and him have been kicked out of two different clubs. We're getting out of it. My mom's 94. It's true, it's true. But anyway, she says, you know, I was talking, I mentioned my father, and she goes, I knew your father. Now, that's only four words, right? But think about this. That ellipses. It was loaded. Yeah. I knew. It was, it's more than three dots. It's like five, dang it. You're a father. We had six-year-olds there that they even knew that that innuendo meant they shagged. That ellipses, yeah. Then we're like, oh, and I'm like, oh, what do you mean, Mom? What are you, starved bullshit? Woody's like, oh, I knew it, I knew it. Our kids already, my kids already called him Uncle Woody, thought we related. His kids had always called me Uncle Matthew, thought we related. And then off they went to play. And then they found pictures, and then they found out this timeline that actually when him, when if my mom shagged with his dad, it would have been at this so-said date, right? Which tracked us to, it was in the middle of my mom and dad's second divorce. They were married three times to each other. Yeah. So the timing adds up. The timing, yeah. So when Matthew went, she told me this, a long time. Okay. A long time before Momax shared this with us. He had told me that when she was going to the hospital to give birth to him, she says, come on, Jim, let's go. I'm going to give birth. He goes, I'm not going. That ain't my son. You know, that ain't my kid. He said that, and he goes, you got it from here. I got one rule. If it's a boy, don't name him Kelly. That's his instructions as she was in labor. And so the reason he said that ain't my kid is because he knew that math wasn't math. And so from the time I've known him, which has been a long time, you know, I always felt like, God damn, I do that kind of thing. You know, I say something like this. There's like all these parallels like you guys have with each other, you know? And I'm like, holy. You know, it's so weird. So when she said this, it just eureka moment. It made sense. And I've got definite confirmation that they were, you know, He's so excited about this being true. Yeah. He's like, ah, it's great, man. We're going to be brothers. I'm like, I'm too, man. He's like, why aren't you as excited as me? I'm like, it's easy for you, man. You'd gain a brother. You're asking me to like disown who I thought my father was for 55 years. That's a little tough for me. But sometimes, you know, you know how you find family members in life. Like this person's like more your family than your own family sometimes. Well, you know, that's true of us, but it's also could be true of your father. He's more. You and I are actually blood, blood, blood together. It makes perfect sense. It makes perfect sense to him. It's so easy. It's a net game for you, dude. You get another father you've never met. It's a little time. And then, and then you got like three new brothers, you know, like it's not so bad. It's a net game. Yeah. That's a bad side full kind of guy. Bullshit. That's great. How did you guys find out? We're still skeptical. Very, very skeptical. Still trying to figure out, you know, how, how a big barely man, a big bear looking guy like this comes out and it's definitely nothing as, as, as, uh, complicated as what you guys just described right there, man. We did find out that Travis was named after the local milkman, but I do. The first stories were that Travis was named after the kid in overboard. There was a kid, Travis, and that's what we knew up. I was thinking, and then mom let the cat out of the bag. That actually was this other guy that she thought was really attractive. And I'm like, okay, maybe, maybe there's a chance. Maybe this is. It all unfolds. Uncle Derry. You know, the main thing is the mom, you know, you got a common mom. You know that. We got that. We got that. We got a common dad. God damn. I can't wait to watch this thing, man. So you guys thought of this, thought of this nine years. And it slowly started to piece itself together or. Let the kids go on their investigation trail. And it became. You believed it from the get go. Then parts of the family started to believe it. And then it was like, well, let's do a DNA test. I was like, bullshit. This ain't true. Ain't doing a DNA test. No reason to do that. And as we started to just sit there and other people started to believe it. We were like, well, whatever DNA tests or not find out or not. Let's do a show on this possibility. And so then that's when we. Started to, we got together, found somebody that said, yeah, we'll do that show. Got our families together. Started off thinking it was going to be all my real family and his family together. Just actually doing it. Everyone playing themselves. And. Yeah. We probably got a little smarter, I think, and said, no, let's cast it. Let's get some professional actors in there. We'd still be shooting. We'd still be shooting that son of a bitch. Yeah. Yeah. We were gonna just improvise, you know, like. Kind of like they do with curb where, you know, like. They have really intricate outlines of the plot, but they improvise all that. So, uh, that we were thinking about that, but then, uh, yeah, luckily we thought, no better, better get a script going. Yeah. Loosely based on our lives, who we are. We kind of exaggerated a few things, you know, turned up the turn and turn some things up a notch for comedy sake and, uh, yeah, nobody made it. That's what we got for sure. Yeah. That was one of my questions. How fit, how fictional are the fictional versions of yourselves? I. I guess you say, man, I mean, look, we've got the same amount of kids. They're same, similar age. Mom. I is Holland. Tell her it's a great mom. I, well, she's a great mom. We just turned up the, I'm not Mr. We exaggerated ourselves. You're not Mr. What? Well, like in the show, I guess it's like, I'm Mr. Order, Mr. Ambition. You got this thing's going on. Got my life all dialed in. Yeah. Stay out of it. Don't come mess it up. That's not, that's not a good extent. It is. Hang to it. And you're cap. In chaos. Who's never come through a front door in his life. Who, if you are going to go to the Oscars, you best bring a swimsuit. Anyway, and who has no context of time or space and doesn't give a damn about if it doesn't know if it's Monday, Sunday, July, December, or don't even have to follow a Christian calendar. What year it is. What millennium is it? That's him. And that's hardly exaggerating. So solidly based with a couple of little. I'll tell you what, man, I don't know if you guys have just been on set with each other too much, or you guys do feel like brothers sitting here and you said your families are close and Matthew, I believe you posted this picture on, on Instagram, telling him happy birthday. You guys go way back. Like when did you guys first meet? You go ahead. Yeah. He thinks we met before we actually met. That's where we met right there. He thinks we met on, on EdTV, but actually we met, I don't know how much earlier, maybe a year earlier. And it was, I don't know, around 95 or six or something. And he was, I was probably later, probably 97 or something, but anyway, he, he, we were both at this thing at CAA at the time we were both at CAA and, and they were doing some kind of event and I walked up to him and I said, how you doing? Okay. So a time to kill had come out. Probably. Yeah. What year was that? '96, '97. Yeah. So I came over and I said, Hey, uh, you know, would you like to do a shot? And he's like, it's like one o'clock in the afternoon. He says, well, you know, I, I got kind of got a lot to do today. I said, well, one shot, one shot ain't going to stop you from doing it. So we, we did a shot and, uh, and he don't remember any of that. any of that by the way. - So you didn't get a lot done. - He basically did a shot Or I did incredibly well at what I did. But I had a lot of rhythm, at least. I don't remember. So what I remember, though, is meeting. We had TV where I met a wardrobe fitting in San Francisco. Second story, wooden floors. The windows are open. It was a beautiful day. And Woody's supposed to come in after me. And I don't see him first, but I hear something out the window. And I hear this heavy metal hitting this concrete like someone walking. Look out the window. Here's a guy in a full-on Tour de France biking suit with his real biking shoes, clip-ons. But he's walking. He's not riding the bike. So he's walking up a hill making all kinds of noise. Next thing I know, he comes in, walks the stairs, the wooden stairs, and then steps into this beautiful mahogany wooden floor wearing those things. Just creased that fucking floor right all the way in. I remember the casting director going, so I want to go over your wardrobe. And he goes, you're looking at my wardrobe. This is what I wear. And she goes, but you're not riding a bike. And he goes, it doesn't matter. This is what I wear. I like this guy. I like this guy. He's got some shit figured out. We had the best time, I got to say. We really had a great time. But then, did we shoot part of that in L.A., too? I can't remember. But anyway, we were in L.A. And this is the night we really bonded. Yeah, this is a good night. I was over at his house. And it was right on Mulholland, right? And we were playing ping pong. And eventually, it didn't matter about the net. And it didn't even matter about the table. The whole concept was you had to get the ball before it stopped. If the ball stops, you lose the point. You lose the point. So you can't let the ball stop. So the ball would be rolling down the driveway on the Mulholland, be running down the ground. Get that ball. Skipping back the other direction. We were frigging bloody two hours later. And I don't think the ball ever stopped in that two hours. Now, let me give you a little extra thing about it. We've got a few little things he's extreme about, all right? Like a raid or Lysol or air conditioning. Don't you turn on the A.C. now. I'm free on patrol, all right? We're sitting out there. He stays at my house one night on that same house in Mulholland. And we're sitting out there. It's the end of the day, man. It's been a great day. We played that ping-pong hat party, et cetera. It's about 2.30 in the morning. We're sitting outside on a wooden picnic table. Like full moon up there, man. Sitting down there passing one back and forth. And I was like, dude, all right, man. I'm tired. I'm going to go on inside and call it a night. And I'm like, you got that extra bedroom. You want to come in? You're welcome to sleep in it. And Woody's like, no, man. I'm going to stay out here and sleep. Bare bones it. That was the line. I'm going bare bones it. Bare bones it. The nature boy. I'm going to bare bones it. I come in. It's getting better. About 10 minutes later, I hear the back door open. A little mosquito's got to Mr. Bare Bones. It had to come on in. I look for the bare bones. I hear him go in the guest room to the side. And as soon as he gets in there and I hear him settle into bed, I go and flick that AC on where it kicks in. I hear the AC kick on in the house. All of a sudden, hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! He comes up and says, I thought you were going to bare bones it, Bob. Yeah, yeah. So he'll stick. He'll stick to like, you know, heavy duty. I'll fall on the sword for this. Unless there's a mosquito. Yeah. Then he's going to come on in. You guys, I mean, how much do you like mosquitoes? Is there any part of them that you. Mosquitoes, flies, anything biting me? I don't know. I got a question. I got a question for you. Everybody here. What's the worst alarm clock you've ever woke up to? Meaning, one is mosquitoes. That is a horrible alarm clock when you get bit by mosquitoes, right? Yeah. Second one would be the smell of your dog that had diarrhea on the floor, right? Yeah. And the thing is, if it hits your nose and wakes you up, the worst part is you can't pass it up and say, like, I'll let someone get that up tomorrow. Yeah. You got to go do it. And it's going to take about an hour and a half to do it right. It's a horrible alarm clock. Worst alarm clock you got. Anybody. I mean, the dog one probably takes the cake. Babies are a necessity, a necessary alarm clock. One time I was sleeping outside and I was being a dummy. I set this fire up and it was so warm and toasty. And I said, I'll just fall asleep right here. This is in the middle of February in Philadelphia. Well, like a dumbass though. The fire goes out and I wake up and I am shivering like cold beyond anything I'd ever seen before. That was a pretty awful alarm clock. That was one where it's like, you know, Jason, you almost just killed yourself being a dumbass. Let's go back in the house. Now mine is probably, uh, the sun waking me up, uh, at like it's peak. And I know I got. Shit. I, I, I was supposed to be like, yeah, I got to have to bulldog to the rest of this afternoon. Yeah. I just fucking, I've been, I've been tardy. And Trav, you're talking about one thing that I'm excited to see with this film. Like there's something about like in football, we consider ourselves like brothers, right? You get so close with other men where you're around them all day. You're, you have similar interests. You're all bonding over football that they become just like family. And I think that's something that's amazing. With obviously your two's relationship and what you guys have created here is like, it's very relatable to a lot of people in lives. And like, you end up the, the, the brothers you choose end up being some of the closest ones you have. So, um, you know, anything about, is there anything you guys want people to take away from this series? I think that's, that is one of the things, you know, people, I didn't know this man, but people have seen it, have said that, that, oh man, what says such cool stuff about, about having a great friend, about male relationships, about male friendship and how you can love one another and stick up for each other. Like, Hey man, we got this, whatever that I didn't know that that was a lot of people were running on reserve, you know, fuel tank with that, with understanding that, cause it is such a cool thing to have with your real brother, with your, with your great friends, whatever, uh, whatever that fraternity that men can have with each other is, is something man, I don't, we don't, we don't ever want to go light on that. And look, our working deal. So we go similar to y'all get together for three to four months, 13 hours a day, six days a week. That's who you, that's it. You know, you get up in the morning. If you're lucky, you say goodbye to your kids on the way out the door. And if you're lucky, you come home, say hi to their mama and, and, and get to, you know, have a dinner and check in with them about the day, but then you're up the next day doing it. And that is your world. The rest of the world, there's no room for anything else to come into it. So it's a bam, you're in it. And then all of a sudden the, the last day it's like the circus picks up its tension, goes away. And Woody's one of the guys and I can count them all in one hand or not even use all my fingers that since we met and worked together in what, 98, that we've remained great friends and, and, and stay in. Sometimes we've had times we've been, been away from each other for over a year, but you know, it is with a good buddy, man. You pick right back up and in 30 seconds, you're rolling again with what? What's happening. We've been through, uh, we've definitely put years on our life from the laughter we've given each other. We've also shed a few damn tears about some tough life stuff going on at the time that we didn't have anybody else to share it in. We needed to share it with each other, you know? Oh yeah. I mean, that's, I'm lucky to have him as a buddy. And like I said, I can count those friends that I've met in the industry that I've stayed that close with on one hand and not even use all the fingers. Then I'm lucky to have that friend in Woody, man. Yeah, baby. There we go. My brother, come on, my dog, come on, that was beautiful, man. We, um, we want to get into this last segment before we get you guys out of here and, uh, we always end the segments with, we gotta ask. So we're going to hit you guys with some rapid fire questions. Um, one, one by one here and, uh, here's some, some good answers out of them. What are you? The first one's for you, brother. A better basketball player in white man, kid, jump or bowler in Kingpin basketball. I was not much of a bowler, uh, that's, that's a real hard sport for me, uh, bowling, but I've been, sometimes I get lucky. Like one time I actually bowled a one 99. Imagine the last frame. All I needed to do was get more than like three. And I got three, you know, he's a sneaky athlete. He's ambidextrous. Now you ought to see him on tennis. Okay. Here we go. Backhand. Hang on a sec. Left-handed backhand. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Whoa. He's got a good left foot and a good left hand dribble on the court too. He's not even left-handed. We saw that. Oh, this guy's a tennis player. That's important on the basketball court. For sure. He's a hell of a tennis player. This guy. Anyway. All right. Next question. Matthew, this one's for you. I go on the right bar at the right time. introduce myself to a producer we get started having drinks four hours later we kicked out of that bar because we're getting too rowdy riding a cab home i'm getting dropped off at my apartment with him don phillips he goes hey you ever done any acting and i said man i was in a middle light commercial about that long i don't know if that counts he goes you might be right for this part come to this address and pick up this script tomorrow morning 9 30 it was about four hours from that time we were heading home right i get the script there it is there's three scenes in there at the part i go in on set that night wasn't even supposed to work what do you have any scenes to act in but the director asked me if i'd step in and improvise something pulling up wooderson pulling up in that scene then you say would would would wooderson be uh interested in well no i'm in the scene and i there's no lines i got a mic on and i'm like going man i'm a little nervous man i'm in my first scene in a movie i've never said a word i've never acted in a film before i'm getting a little bit nervous let's go and i'm like who's my man about who's wooderson what does wooderson love i said wooderson loves his car i said well i'm in my 70 chevelle there's one so wooderson loves to get high i said well slater's riding shotgun he's always got a doobie rolled up there's two i said wooderson loves rock and i said man i got ted nugent stranglehold cranking on the eight track there's three all of a sudden to hear action and i look up and i'm like and wooderson loves picking up chicks and there she is i got three out of four going to get the fourth all right all right all right first three words i ever said first three words i ever said on film what i'm saying why i won't get tired of that and i didn't know it's on film it's just his voice it's just a wide shot of a car pulling around but i didn't know that night if acting was going to be something if that night i worked was going to be something for the rest of my life i'd tell my kids hey there was this one summer in austin i got to work this night on a film as a little hobby and turned out to be a career i love so introduced with those three words makes everything a little cooler to head into you know you do that forever the first three words i ever said and what i thought might be a hobby turned out to be a career there we go come on out to the air stream i'm gonna make the best matthew you're on the sideline for the texas national championship win at the rose bowl is this the greatest sporting event you've ever been to what's what if not what is no that is people ask me all the time what's the greatest sports movie i'm like that night you couldn't have written that drama and people believed it and what the ebbs and the flows of what happened and how it happened and i mean the no one of those no excuses games nothing ended up in that controversial nothing ended up in the ref's hands it was you know i mean it was just it was two teams playing at peak and then we happened to have you know a guy who played like superman at that time and vince young who just come on now did that thing he had a little bit of that thing that deon used to do you know when you're like okay people almost couldn't make the move on him and he could he could run you'd run certain kicks back you're like man you had it and like nobody i didn't and he had vince had a little bit of that in that game just the ebbs and flows the fact i mean going into it that we did we weren't given a chance the dynasty of usc was already talked about being complete this is third year this is going to happen it's already been written and if you listen back to that game which i've listened to i think dan fowlson somebody else oh nelly oh nelly was dan fowlson uh what's his name oh nelly anyway it's not until like four minutes to go in the game where either one of them kind of go texas has a chance here it was it was just really like he's got it and then you know i want let me ask you about this intangibles all right you know right intangibles which i think are really interesting to come up with vince did something and you tell me if you did if you understand what i'm talking about here and share some stories of intangibles y'all may have or that you know he did something in the third quarter late in the third quarter we're down by like i don't know four or something like that we're driving we're on their 30 35 they call it one of those television timeouts long national championship game those television timeouts are long oh yeah you know they take a while so back at the other at the other end of the stadium they bring out three usc alumni older men and to sit there recognize for your service and so on so vince looks down there takes his helmet off runs down the field shakes each one of their hand and induces himself and is talking to him when the ref blows the whistle like hey let's get back in place like oh yeah runs back up and me i was sitting there looking at that me and my buddy link later we're going like we're gonna win this game did you see that that's how present this dude is that's how yeah you know what i mean do you see the other intangibles that you see somebody do then you're like guys are on another level right now they're they're they're that joe montana story of looking up hey it's john candy in the huddle you know i'm a super bowl drive and you're like how'd you what that's how'd you do that you're like oh my god you're like oh my god you're like oh my god you're how do you have the poise to be there you don't have any intangible stories of people or things you've seen jason's got a few vince young stories up i was about to say that does not surprise me one bit about vince i was with vince for a year in philadelphia and one of my favorite teammates we ever had like he had that ability i mean had a lot of shortcomings like i love vince but one of his superpowers was making you feel like you were just playing backyard football again so like you'd say in that story where like he's not gonna let the moment get the best him i don't think i ever saw vince rattled now there were some times he might have should have been rattled that's one of the things that it works to your strength in certain moments and i could see on a stage like that the biggest thing you're trying to do in the biggest moments is not let the moment all of a sudden make you be somebody you're not and something like that with vince's personality i could see working really well and obviously it did um it's the same thing i mean and i see it a little bit with jalen hurts i think he gets criticized a lot uh but he has that same ability where the highs never get too high and the lows never get too low he's so consistent and that works to his advantage majorly in big moments sometimes when things aren't going well you want him to be all of a sudden be somebody else you want him to be a hey come on guys let's go do that we need to get this going but that's but what i'm trying to say is like that doesn't you want that in the times where you need it but you you tend to forget when the times are really good that he this personality is a strength of his as well let me ask you this when did where were you when you had your first daughter in your career uh i was in 20 oh man 2019 so i would have been in my trying to think of what season that would have been uh ninth season in the nfl did you have a first man as a first child yes it never is a man more masculine never is the head more aligned with the heart with the loins and the spirit i mean i found that on the first child that all my hunches i should have quadrupled down on them i tripled down on some i should have quadded down on a dude whether it was people relationships career choices investments whatever i was just like bam they're all aligned and i always think that that's a great one of the best times to bet on a man is after they have their first child for the next i don't know six months a year how was your season i think after that moment it all was trying to think of a way to say this um a lot of life gets put into perspective when you have a child and priorities get set straight but also responsibilities and i think that that's a huge turning point for me and my career as my place in the team as well and i don't know if they you know overlapped just at the right time or if something really did manufacture in like the way that i viewed myself around all these other guys but that season definitely was a season where all of a sudden i started taking further steps into being like that older statesman kind of leader within the room and stuff like that yeah an amazing time for yeah for a man at first child you remember what you your years your life your career choices you made relationships you made after yeah 93 uh we uh in cheers uh there were between the cast and crew there were 50 babies and denny our our daughter was number 50 it was quite a time because uh we were wrapping up cheers and i'd written a play i was trying to direct it and uh you know uh i'd done uh this movie indecent proposal and it was just coming out and then i was prepping to do natural born killers and i mean just so much going on and then to not sleep was wild because uh you know how the sleep thing goes it was it was it was kind of chaotic but it was pretty great you know just just that pure love you get from the kid it's amazing i think my career got better once i had kids yeah yeah because i think i think i was uh in that perspective thing that you were talking about jason i mean when i when i when all of a sudden performing and acting wasn't number one you know what i mean and you got dependents that oh no if you ain't there they don't make it so that's the child right when i put it it's not just you when when acting came down out of the number one spot i didn't lose any respect i actually got better at it because i had something else that was more personal in the number one slot do you think you've made enough money now that you can provide for your family or do you got to keep it? Maybe I break a sweater. Yeah. i ain't down i'm going perpetual man come on mr mr mr sequel trilogy over here i'm trying to catch up with him these guys are trying to they want to get back to their lives so uh how do we uh one last question perfect segue perfect segue welcome to hollywood moment for each of you guys we always ended up asking everybody where where it started and it kind of shocked them that they were doing what they were doing or just a moment that uh that hit you early on so i got invited uh by carrie fisher yeah you know yeah and she got got invited to this party and i'm and i'm walking up from the driveway up this you know big lawn and out on the lawn comes jack nicholson by himself and he didn't know anyone's watching and and uh and he comes out on the lawn and he goes i am so up and i was like oh my god i am in hollywood i'm gonna tell you about my entrance to hollywood so i graduate college and driving out there uh pulling a little u-haul uh behind my truck and i got a couple thousand bucks but i got the trip planned man i know that soon as i get to sunset boulevard i'm gonna put in the doors la woman and i'm gonna rock it for my entrance right because i'm coming out here first time so i'm driving and it's about a 24 hour drive anyway and that hour 21 i going through like india when i see this sunset drive exit i'm like oh shit man i'm making good time i put that cd in baby a seven minute song i think i had to play it 22 times in a row because sunset drive out of indio is not sunset boulevard you still have another two hours to go i listened to it 22 times in a row until i finally got to sunset boulevard where i pulled in 10 30 minutes 10 38 on a saturday night knocked on the door my buddy don phillips who's moved on i can tell this story because i wrote up my book knocked on his door after that 24 hour drive nobody answers finally he just hey what is it i said it's me man it's mcconaughey because i'm sleeping on the only guy i knew i'm gonna sleep on his couch he goes hey i got this little chippy in there right you think you can give me about 20 minutes he walked back to the door and he you know he was it was it was facing north and i was like welcome to hollywood he's mid he's mid sport man all right yeah come back thank you tom i'll be out there sitting in the car bud welcome to hollywood green light baby green light well i gotta say man thank you in the middle of the night sometimes i'm a sit down wee guy because i don't want to turn the lights on and i don't want to risk miscommunication missing the toilet if this thing has a detachable hose
