It has already been a Y-Y old day. There is so much happening and we are not done yet We are within 50 minutes of the trade deadline We have a lot to break down a lot more to break down as it comes in How are you guys holding up because I've just been you know Sitting back retweeting stuff and you guys are hard at work all day. I I probably should help out or do Fine This is my element. I I love I love high volume reacting to things that that's that's how I got my start In this industry way back in the house in days of 2011 writing Updates about things that are happening So this is this is home to me. I'm just seeing Tyler Wells got traded to the raise So it's it's been it's been The trades have been coming in at a frantic pace here It hasn't been like recent trade deadlines where I feel like everybody waits until the last hour Which is why we're starting an hour before the actual deadline. We figured this would be utter chaos I don't know hope it probably still will be But there's still some pretty so much that's happened already. Yeah, there's still some pretty big names out there that we expect to get moved though Elliot Ramos Kyle Stowers Elliot Ramos. There are probably bigger names who are available as well In addition to those two Elliot Ramos actually just came through that that one is he is headed to the Yankees. So there you go. What's got said? I find that we're gonna get one like massive. I don't know who it's gonna be But I I have this feeling I have this feeling something massive is gonna happen like a either like a George Kirby or something like that Something big is gonna come down right before the deadline. I feel it But do we start with that do we start with Ramos or we go somewhere else? No, no, we're definitely not starting with Elliot Ramos Come on like live reactions. That's the whole point. All right. That's fine. Whatever. Yeah Okay live reaction to Elliot Ramos and the Yankees cool Names and the Minges Spencer Jones one of them is Christian has been bad. They've all been bad. All we have there starting outfielders have been bad. Yeah, you're almost as fine He's probably Yeah, that's probably I hope probably if you just if you spent a lot of fab dollars on Spencer Jones last night Well, I don't know if you deserve to be disappointed if you do he's performing the best of the three So he's probably sticking around. Yeah, you set that bar low enough. It's a pretty low bar All right, so we will update you as things come through. I'm just gonna keep refreshing Twitter and I've been trying to find the right Sound bite to drop whenever there's a trade I was I should have actually done this earlier I don't know I don't know what I was doing all day, but it wasn't prepping for this apparently how this You know, it's a bell and it kind of you know, let's just know what's going on So anytime there's a trade I'll ring that and we'll go but the biggest trade of the day I am oh Adley Ruchman to the red socks Really for the haul that came back to the Orioles in this trade just massive Anthony Ionson and the as a car Kyson witherspoon Either Harold Revis is in this trade or not. I know Carlos and Revias isn't it, but really it's still like the big three names up top here Anthony Ionson is a consensus top 50 prospect Andy Ozek as a car is a according to fangrass top 100 but MLB doesn't have them there and then Kyson witherspoon was a first round Picked just last year so massive massive haul It's a year and a half of Adley Ruchman who was on the IL currently with a wrist injury so We're not gonna see him right away if red socks uniform. I don't know Chris this kind of feels like Paying for the name rather than the production I feel like well Yeah, I don't necessarily disagree I do think that the context of the red socks in particular Does change that just a little bit because they've gotten just absolutely nothing from their catchers this season their catchers on the whole have a 280 X-W- or to a de woeba their 26th in war among catchers across all teams Even though Adley Ruchman is not the MVP candidate he once was and looked like he would continue to be He's still been worth 2.3 wins above replacement in like 67 games this season. So you know looking at it from that perspective the red socks might have just gotten a legit five win upgrade for next season And that's a big deal and they're fighting for something this season and they're fighting for something this season and It very well could be you know if Ruchman comes back and plays well it could be a one and a half to win Upgrade this season just because of how bad their catching situation was coming in so I it's a lot You usually don't see this much given up, but it is an extra year of club control for an impact player if not a superstar I don't think I would have given that much up. You probably love it. I was gonna say you Someone going for it someone trying they have expended a lot of prospect capital in the past couple years I mean they gave up James tibs for Dustin May last year. Obviously that didn't work out and that was at the time May honestly, maybe the dumbest trade-out ever seen a teammate This is a huge prospect haul. I mean Anthony Ionsen if yeah if If the closest you follow prospects is is reviewing the new top 100 list when it comes out every year You may not be familiar with Anthony Ionsen, but he has been one of the biggest risers among prospects this year between high a and double a 132 ERA 0.89 whip 12.4 K per nine And he spent more of the year double a than I So I think MLB calm you said consensus top 50 Frank for Anthony Ionsen. Yeah, they have 49 I think I've seen him more like 25th Fanger has him 26th in their season update. I'm not sure. I so think he made I don't know if he made baseball Perspectives mid season top 100. Let me check and again Kaisen with their spoon first of first round pick last year for the Red Sox and then another one of their top five prospect Like that's that's a bigger prospect all than the Tigers got for scuba. Yeah now there's I mean Probably the best singular prospect even Ionsen you could argue is even better than Z here hope now It is an extra year that the Red Sox are getting with rush men that the Dodgers aren't getting with scuba but it's It's I think the biggest surprise of the day so far is just how much I mean it wasn't clear rush men was getting traded at all But just how much the Oreos were able to get for them and obviously this puts Creates a clear trajectory for for Samuel Poseidon like he's the franchise catcher and he's not gonna lose that eligibility anytime soon Wasn't their first round pick last year catcher? Ike Irish has moved to the outfield. He hasn't played it all Catcher at all this year. Okay, but it does kind of open things up here for the Orioles again Samuel Bessio could play catcher, but those guys were kind of alternating you know catcher DH So DH gets opened up they also traded away Taylor Ward so there's just spot becoming available playing time becoming available for the Orioles We'll get to war a little bit later on but someone like Dylan Beaver's could wind up being a big winner today Just getting an opportunity to play every day for the Orioles down the stretch Getting back to Adley Ruckton again I don't I kind of came off as like you know red socks here. It's a great trade for them like they needed a catcher There's no doubt about that and I wanted the Yankees to acquire Adley Ruckman But again big price tag here. What do you guys think this does for Adley Ruckman's fantasy value once he's back does it really change anything for him playing on this red socks team in Fenway Park? Not for me I tried to find a way to spin it positively like as a left-handed batter is a switchheader of course But primarily that means from the left side does he hit a lot of fly balls to the opposite field and could wear out the green monster that way I don't see clear evidence of that Fenway is a really bad park for left-handed power overall for pull power Yeah From the left side that You want to hit him toward the green monster. You definitely don't want to hit them to right field and so I I think his value holds pretty steady rush man and I think the biggest determinant of that is If he can reverse this apparent decline he's bid on obviously young enough to think he can and there've been a number of health issues in recent years Who knows maybe maybe the red socks see something that? mechanically that they can fix and get them back on track. I think maybe just because of the course rushmen's been on lately, going anywhere else might be a good thing. But I mean, just the general, I mean, everyone's taken a step back in the last two years and Baltimore basically. Is there anyone who hasn't? Is there anybody we feel better about in Baltimore now than we did two years ago? And their reputation for developing hitters was sky high a couple of years ago, but it's it's it's greater. I don't know what changed. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I think we have multiple things coming in. So Antonio sends a tele to be traded to the Brewers. It's not massive or anything. Giants close to acquiring Marcelo Meyer for Eric Miller. Wow. Talk about a guy whose how the mighty have fallen standing. I mean, the rest of my team Chris, Marcelo Meyer has done absolutely nothing at the age really level and it wasn't exactly great in the in the high minors. He was okay. So I'm not surprised. I think that's a great move for the Giants, but um, that does not speak well of of Eric Miller or of Marcelo Meyer, but you know, he probably also not has a you would like to see him go either. No, and he has had a ton of injuries over the year, standing back to his minor league career, which probably helps explain a big part of why he's struggled so much. So, you know, a good change of scenery candidate. Um, but yeah, getting traded for a pretty mediocre middle reliever is not a not a great look for how the industry as a whole is viewing Marcelo Meyer. And frankly, I don't think anyone really has a lot of optimism left for him. Yeah. So Eric Miller, I was going to bring him up later on because the Giants traded Caleb Killian away to the Phillies earlier, but Eric Miller already looked like he was starting to take over the closer role for the Giants. He had the last two saves for them. Scott, it might finally be happening. You might be getting key in win as the closer of the Giants. I gave up on stashing him a long time ago in the 15 teamers, but what else do they have? I'm sure they'll still find a way, Tony Patela will still find a way to uh, to get other arms in there. He has not been dedicated to anyone pitcher in the ninth. And I doubt that changes. I mean, Keaton win. Yeah, if you have to speculate on somebody unless he gets traded in the next 40 minutes. But uh, yeah, I want to say the Giants right now are a place you should be looking for saves. Chris, did you have anything else on the Adley or Archimondeal? I feel like I cut you off before, but we can put a bow on that. No, just a really good haul for Baltimore to get back. It kind of in a lot of ways. It's kind of undoing the Shane Bos trade from earlier this off season. Another one where everyone's initial reaction was, oh, that that was way too much to go up for that guy. I don't know if they know who Shane Bos is. And um, he's mostly continued to be Shane Bos. I have no idea how those prospects in particular have done. Um, but that was just, you know, that the Orioles have a pretty mediocre farm system now. And they are a pretty mediocre team at the major league level. And suddenly, you know, two years ago, this felt like a situation where it was like, man, the Orioles need to go for it because they've got the core now and they need to go get the pitching and they just kind of didn't. And now the chorus fallen apart. I mean, I expect Gunner Henderson to be good again at some point, but that one, I mean, I guess the fact that they let Michaelias do this trade deadline means his job is probably safe, but if very much should not be the way the last couple of years have gone for them. But a couple of their trades earlier on, a lot of other trades, but some big ones, Jose Soriano to the blue jays, which was kind of a confusing one. And in return, the angels received Arjan Namaala Eddie Mitchell, Eddie and Unhell Rivera or Angel Rivera. Namaala, nice return here for the angels. He is a consensus top 50 prospecting baseball shortstop, who was in the blue jays organization, supposed supposed to be a big power tool there for Namaala Scott. What do you think of this return here for the angels? And does anything change with Jose Soriano going over to the blue jays? It's a, it's a better infield defense for the league's fifth best ground ball pitcher, who's you know, his, his, his Babip is already in the top half of the league. So I don't know that he has much to gain there. Obviously, the biggest issue for Jose Soriano has been his control, which I believe he's tied for the worst walk rate among qualifiers. But overall, of course, we've talked about him a lot. He's shown improvement this year, expanding his arsenal, more force, seemers, more splitters, has become a much better strikeout pitcher. And after a rough patch in the middle of the season, he had a strong July. It's, it's interesting. I mean, he was obvious. It was one of the obvious names on the trade market at the position where every contender needs something. So it was surprising to see a non-contender like the blue jays go get him. It's clear that the blue jays are thinking this year is just kind of an aberration. And they're, they're retooling for next year here at the trade deadline, getting Jose Soriano and also Spencer Ergeti. I'm sure we'll talk about that trade a little bit later. Arjan Nemala is a good prospect. Big power has has kind of been a project to the last few years. His numbers are decent at AA, but he's the power hasn't fully manifested yet. And I think after drafting Jojo Parker in the first round, the blue jays saw Nemala is expendable. Maybe he can become somebody else's project. In this case, the angels. And I guess that's the best prospect offer they got for Soriano because that's the trade they ultimately accepted. It was pretty interesting too because a couple of hours ago, there was a report that other teams were now contacting the blue jays about Jose Soriano even though they just acquired him. So it's like, Hey, anybody could have traded for Jose Soriano. Like he was out there for a while. Read Debtmers is still an angel for now. He could be traded. But yeah, it was just interesting that I guess other teams didn't see the blue jays kind of stepping up and making that deal. And now they were trying to hit up the blue jays for Jose Soriano. So yeah, yeah, that makes you wonder how, how quickly the angels hit except when they saw Nemala in the inbox, you know, like, yeah, I don't know. Maybe we've all been there. Yeah, you just don't want to go through the the rigmarole. You just you just take the offer. No, I think they did really well here. And I think, you know, I don't know, maybe they could have gotten more, but getting a top 50 prospect across baseball, I don't think you're going to get that much more for a guy who is good, but is definitely a we can fix him kind of picture like he actually has two years of control left after this year. Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. That's. So that's an that's sort of deal even the brewers could have gone for. Yeah, they well, yeah, I mean that I don't know, the NL Central contenders seem to not believe that they can't do anything better than like an SP4. I'm not sure I agree with them, but hey, more power to them, I guess. Yeah, I thought the I think the angels are, you know, as far as these things go, I think the angels are having a nice day. Later on, they turned Ryan's aversion into Moises by Starros, which I think is really interesting. That was the second biggest surprise of the day for me that the Cubs gave up on Moises by his tariffs so quickly, which I think tells you that the Cubs just, you know, don't think there's anywhere for him to play. That's yeah, I get that and they were an organization loaded with catchers and catchers seemed like the only position by Starros could realistically play because he's short and squatty. I wouldn't even really work at first base given how short he is. So it was either full-time DH part-time catcher or yeah, it was either full-time DH or, you know, splitting time between DH and catcher. For an organization already rich in catchers, they have Owen Iyer's or Ayer's breaking out at AAA this year. And so it's just surprising because they seem so enthusiastic about by Starros coming into the season. I felt like moving Owen Casey showed they were kind of putting all their chips in the in the by Starros basket. You got off to a very hot start, but then he struggled and got sent down and hasn't performed particularly well at AAA. I believe he's just 22 right by Starros so like still very much a work in progress, but the angels just traded away. way there, their primary catcher and Logan O'Hoppie. So that might create a clear path for Bias Daros behind the plate. It's got to be he at least gets the chance, you know, whether or not that, yeah. At least the rest of the season, I would guess he's probably going to be terrible defensively and they'll reconsider whether he's a first baseman or a DH long term. But I would imagine he's going to play a lot the rest of the way. And for our purposes, yeah, I think that puts him back in the top 24 catcher conversation. Yeah, I still like the battle a lot. He makes contact. He hits the ball hard. I think, I think this is really good news for Moises by Astaire's, even though the Cubs are giving up on him, both for redraft leagues because it introduces him as a number two catcher option for this year, an all likelihood and a dynasty leagues because there's a chance now that he might be a catcher long term. It makes 12 more appearances. Yeah, I think one of the biggest winners for fantasy so far today has been Moises by Astaire's, just winding up on a team where he could take over whether it's the catcher, DH, whatever, wherever it's going to be, I think there's going to be every day playing time there for by Astaire's right away. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't just throw him in their lineup. Getting back to Soriano for a second, just to put a ball on this one, I do like this move for him quite a bit getting to the blue jays. If you look at the angels defenses here, they're 24th and defensive run saved are 28th and out above average. The blue jays 11th in DRS 14th in out above average and Pete Walker, their pitching coach, said he views Soriano as a Dylan C's type where you kind of reclamationy project, not really because Soriano's good, but they kind of view him in that light and he's excited to work with him. So excited to see what the blue jays can do here with Soriano. The other side for the angels for a second, I was trying to see if there's anyone, like a pitching prospect who could get called up and maybe make a difference here. And I just want to throw the name out there, George Clawson had three straight quality starts at AAA and his last 12 starts in the miners, 257 ERA 117 whip over a strikeout per inning, also four walks per nine, which has always been an issue for him. But Chris, I think a deep league name to pay attention to, I think George Clawson's probably going to get a bit of a runway here to be an angel's rotation. Yeah, I mean, look, that's the thing about when teams are folding for the rest of the season is, they still got to play those games and get those endings and played appearances and they're going to start giving opportunities to more marginal guys. And occasionally, you'll get a diamond in the rough. So yeah, keep an eye on anyone that the angels call up, anyone, the Orioles call up. They're, they have some talent in their systems. So it's, you know, always worth keeping an eye on situations like that. From Ken Rose and thought, Oh, yeah, Griffin Foster is being traded to the Guardians. I guess he meant foster Griffin, but yeah, Foster Griffin traded to the Guardians, interested to see what the return will be there. But Chris, I feel like I've got to throw this one, your way. You've been the biggest foster Griffin fan all season long. What do you think about his fit in Cleveland? Off the top of the head, I would guess that's a mild park upgrade for foster Griffin. Definitely a lineup downgrade in terms of who's protecting him, but defensively, it's probably a wash. Look, he's got a 306 ERA. I think his most recent start this weekend was really, really bad. But before that had been a whole lot of excellent. I still think there's a lot of room for regression here. He's a 306 ERA guy, but all this peripherals are more in the four range. But, you know, I think this is probably a marginal upgrade in terms of situation, ballpark, defense behind him. So, you know, it's certainly not arrow down for foster Griffin, even though I think on the whole, he is likely to perform worse the rest of the way than he has been so far. But I know not everybody agrees with that. So we'll see. It's definitely a defense upgrade, by the way. I did just look that up and Guardians defense much better than that. Yeah, National's defense is very bad. And that will continue to be the case as long as CJ Abrams is there. Shortstop and honestly, as goes James, what is he's a pretty awful defensive player as well? So I think foster Griffin is a good pitcher, but I don't think he's a low three. He all right, pitching. So technically speaking, yeah, I would count on some regression. But I do think he's a good pitcher. And I think an organization that really knows pitching just acquired him in the Guardians. I'll be interested to see what they gave up for him because selfishly that was an expiring contract there. That was that was I was hoping foster Griffin would be a target for the Braves. And so yeah, interested to see what the Guardians gave up. All right. Again, foster Griffin headed to the Guardians. Once I see what the return packages, I'll let you know. If you saw me make a weird face perplexed face earlier, I saw the return of the Elliott Ramos trade. The Yankees gave up Caden Kent and Henry Lelane, which is just seems kind of weird to me. Like Lelane is kind of this rising prospect in their organization. Big left handed pitcher. It's like a top six prospect overall in their organization, not overall in baseball. But there's a lot of upside with him. And just looking at what other right handed hitters went for earlier today, wasn't anything close to that. So I earlier almost is under team control through 2030. So I guess that factored into it. But he's just an okay player. You know, like I guess you're hoping. And he's a terrible defender like. Yeah. Look at the names they're acquiring. Luis Garcia and Elliott Ramos, like their defense is bad. Yeah. I guess you're hoping you're better line up, better ballpark. Unlock something from Elliott Ramos. I don't know if the underlying numbers suggest that that's all that likely. So I don't really understand that except from a perspective of he is cheap and club controlled. And for a team that has a lot of money on the books, that stuff does matter. He hits the ball really hard. Yeah. It's just kind of a field lot too. As a right handed batter, they may be thinking they may be thinking, help you a good fit to take advantage of that short porch from the right side. Well, it's so for the X home runs are very funny because we think of Yankee Stadium as a pretty good park. I think the very, very short lines make people think the Yankee stadium is a much better hitters park than it is. They give up a lot. The short porch home runs don't happen in right and left center field. So for Elliott Ramos's career, it's 55 homeers at San Francisco, 57 in Yankee Stadium on the X home runs. But that never works out perfectly and guys can change their approach. He is an extremely not pull-minded hitter. That could be something that the Yankees try to unlock there as well. Yeah. He's a decent player. I don't really, yeah, I don't really see much to get excited about with him though. I remain most interested in who loses at bats there because Spencer Jones, of course, has been of recent interest and Trent Grisham has been bad, but we've been touting him. I would imagine just for defensive reasons. He stays in, right? I think it's probably Dominguez if I had to guess probably that that would just because of the way Spencer Jones is performed recently, that would make sense. Yeah. All right. Don't have the names in the return for Foster Griffin, but it does look like four players are headed back to the Guardians and to the Nationals rather in that trade. The latest is that the twins probably nothing great. The twins have acquired Jeff Hoffman. So wondering if he can do they view him as their closer because he has closing experience, although Yoendress Gomez has performed very well in that role of the season. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out earlier on. The twins did not have a closer and we thought they never would ever again, but Gomez has stepped up, but Hoffman has, you know, he has that that closer history. So that'll be an interesting one to watch is the twins bullpen now. I feel pretty confident saying Hoffman is now the most talented reliever in the twins bullpen, but he might have been the most talented reliever in the blue stage bullpen. His 14k per nine this year. I want to see, oh gosh. Yeah. He's allowed a total of three earned runs since the end of May. Jeff Hoffman has. So the ERA is still verging on four, but it has been, he has looked so much better since the start of June that comes out to a 121 ERA in his last 23 appearances with giving you the k per nine real quick here. 12.1 k per nine, actually the k per nine rates fall a little bit from the season bar. But I think too many guys out it over 12 k per nine obviously is closer caliber. And if I were in charge of the twins, this seems bad for Yoendress Gomez. Yeah, I mean, his underlying numbers are pretty underwhelming. I feel like success. Yeah. I feel like most managers and Derek Shelton, I think, is a little, a little moral school like this I want to say. I feel like they tend to be loyal to to pictures who, you know, if they haven't given them a reason for anxiety, They'll probably just stick with Yo-Andrus Gomez. Maybe I won it, but maybe that's what'll happen. But at the very least, you could say he's obviously on thin ice with this Jeff Hoffman acquisition. So I was going to save this next one for later, but I think another one of the big winners of the trade deadline, and one that we've been telling people about for weeks is Luke Weaver. He was traded over to the pirates. We assume that he will take over as their closer because they haven't really had a set closer and they've been working with multiple lefties in that role, Soto and Mason Montgomery. Luke Weaver has that experience and he's also just been amazing this season. So I think Luke Weaver is probably number one reliever ad with a bullet here at the trade deadline. And then, I mean, does Jeff Hoffman get anywhere close to that? Like, if Hoffman were named-- I think it's close. If Hoffman were named the closer, would you rather have Hoffman or Luke Weaver? Weaver. Well, I think he's a better pitcher. But Hoffman has more upside. I mean, the sheer strike at ability that Hoffman has, like we're seeing over the last two months, when he locks in and when he's not giving up a home run every other fly ball, he can be really, really good. I just-- it's hard to buy in fully given how disastrously poor the results have been the past two years. But there's plenty of upside there. And I think twins versus pirates is kind of a wash in terms of who you expect to get the most wins the rest of the way. Yeah. I just want to say we don't know that Weaver is closing for the pirates. True. I just like we don't know that Hoffman is closing for the twins because the pirates don't have a set closer yet. It feels like a safer bet. But because they're kind of lefty heavy, I can see them mixing and matching potentially. And that would be frustrating for anybody who throws a truckload of fab dollars at Luke Weaver. So I think Hoffman inheriting the twins' closer role feels inevitable. So I think it is a closer call than it may seem at first glance. I would definitely prioritize Weaver over Hoffman, but there are-- unless we get a statement from one of those managers, Derek Shelton, or the guy who manages Derek Shelton's former team, Don Kelly, I believe his name is. I just wanted to make the Derek Shelton connection. Until we get official word and we probably won't get official word, then we're just kind of guessing what's going to happen with both of those bullpen's. And both guys right around 30% roster. I'm sorry. Hold on. I'm sorry. I was like, what the heck is going to get me through the nut. Yes. There you go. So both Weaver and Hoffman right around 30% rostered on CBS. So it is a close call if you have to make that decision. I think if you play in a head-to-head categories league or a rodeo league, if it's open waivers, try and add both. Why not? If you have names that you could spare, just trying to figure out where they're going to wind up in the reliever rankings. And like, Scott, I'm looking at yours right now. You have Pete Fairbanks, Emilio Pagan, 27th and 28th. Do you see Weaver and Hoffman maybe kind of right in that group, maybe right behind that group? What do you think? I think I had a group. Certainly if we knew they were closing, they'd be ahead of that group. Even with the uncertainty that that's such an uninspiring duo that Pagan and who else he said? Fairbanks. Fairbanks. Yeah, it's such an inspiring duo that I still think I'd rather gamble on Weaver. Weaver for sure. Hoffman over Pagan at the very least. All right. Let's get back to some of the other trades that happened earlier in the day. Let me just do a little quick refresh over here. Make sure nothing else is crazy. We're getting some details about what the returns for Hoffman are, but it didn't look like anybody. Yeah. Thanks, John Hill, John Klein and Demorey Pena. Yeah. And we do have the return for the Foster Griffin trade. Bill Dion, Josh Hartle, Kandegless, Virgus and Nick Mitchell. Wow. That's a. Do it that while I try to figure out how to pronounce the names live is going to be fun. But yeah, I mean, not really any names that I recognize there. So let's keep it moving. And let's get to the Phillies who acquired Luis Arise and Caleb Killian from the Giants for two pitching prospects, Ramon Marquez and Marty Gare and for Luis Arise line up upgrade, park upgrade for sure. If you trust these numbers from Stakcast, Luis Arise has four total home runs this season. He would have four home runs if he played all of his games in Oracle Park in San Francisco. And he would have 12 homers if he played all of his games in Philly in Citizens Bank Park. So that's right completely by it. But yeah, it seems like a pretty good upgrade here for Luis Arise. I mean, you know, I got to be honest, I wrote the little capsule for the trade tracker with the Luis Arise thing. I did not even bother to look at home runs by ballpark because he's played in a few ball parks in his career. And the power has never been anything to comment on. Yeah. But now that I think about it, they've all been pitchers, parks, right? I guess Minnesota. Minnesota. Minnesota is probably the best park he's played at. The others would be Miami and San Diego and San Francisco. So we have the biggest pitchers, parks and baseball. Right. So maybe, I don't know, maybe, I think I think I would count on Luis Arise doing what he's always done. I mean, he's leading the league and batting average for a fourth time. And you know, he's going to be a great source of that. Obviously, you know, there's so much commentary on social media about Luis Arise. He's probably the most comment that on player in the majors for all kinds of frustrating reasons. Like, he has much more valuable this year than he's ever been before because he used to be a huge negative defensively and he's become a positive defensively. And I think that's the biggest, the most notable part of this deal is the Phillies are rearranging their whole defense to welcome Luis Arise in its second base. They are shifting Bryson's stock to third. They are shifting Alec Bome to first. And their moving Bryson are per back to the outfield. A position he hasn't played at all since 2022 and hasn't played full time since 2021. Crazy. We like that in fantasy. Yeah. But first base is loaded and outfields kind of, kind of thin. We don't like that for Phillies pitchers. So I'll tell you that right now. What's your defense? What about Defender out there? I, I, I, I, he moved to first because he had the top itself. He always had a good arm, but he was a terrible defender from what I remember. I, I don't know if the metrics would back that up. But I remember the, the range factor, the out-of-over placement, the only year he was a positive was 2020 and that was a very, very small sample size obviously. So, yeah. Yeah. It's, look, he's still, his arm strength still rates out pretty well. Actually, better than Bryson Stott. So that'll be interesting to see how Bryson Stott handles the move to third. I mean, I think when you're a team like the Phillies and you're all in on this current core and you don't have a lot of flexibility, you do kind of just have to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks and just kind of get the best collection of talent you can and hope it works out. I don't know if Luis Raias is good enough to justify all of that, but if he remains this plus plus defender, he's been this season, then it starts to get really interesting. But yeah, I think on the whole, this is probably going to be one of the worst defenses in baseball rest of the way. Yeah. That already was. Yeah. Yeah. So I, I think it's, I think it's an upgrade here for Luis Raias partially just getting out of Oracle as a left-handed hitter. He's never going to hit for a ton of power, but obviously could pop a few more home runs and citizens bank. Is there a net benefit to just removing bone from third base? Now he's got Bryson Stott there. I don't think we've seen Stott play third base, have we? But I imagine he'd been fine because he was a shortstop at one bright. I imagine he'd do fine there, but bone's been pretty bad. Yeah, I would guess there could be, look, it might be a net improvement if a rise is good as he's looked and, you know, Stott isn't a downgrade because Harper has weirdly rated out pretty poorly at first base for the Phillies. Stott grades out as a great defender at second, so we'll see how he does it third, but. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's interesting, but I think it mostly just comes down to the, they needed to get another bat that offense after Harper and, and, uh, Schorber has been pretty bad. I know Turner's starting to turn it around. Stott's been really good for a couple of months now. Um, but yeah, they needed something, they needed to do something. They didn't have a lot of good options. This might have been the best of a bunch of bad options. Mm hmm. Uh, all right. Again, that is Luis Arise over to the Phillies. The biggest part of that is just like all the position jumbles that need to happen as a result of acquiring him, but. Lars new bar is headed to the desert Arizona Diamondbacks are acquiring. Lars new bar and, uh, we did hear just recently that the Padres were going pretty hard after him. They're trying to acquire a left handed hitter, but the D backs who could use some help, the off you, they get. Lars Newbar. - I like that more than the Padres. - Yeah. - Getting him. Look, Lars Newbar doesn't really matter in fantasy this season. And so we don't need to go too deep into this. But we've all thought there was more in there for a long time and he has faked us out repeatedly. Sounds like much of the league was interested. It's one of those, you know, maybe just getting him, getting him somewhere else can unlock that potential. It's not the sort of thing I'm gonna invest any fantasy capital in, but I'm curious. - I think that's not a bad place to hit. - Yeah, you know what this means? - Probably a lineup upgrade. Yeah. Joshua Baez. Maybe. - This should mean Joshua Baez up to the Cardinals, right? - Yeah, you should. - I have to put, because I feel like the biggest thing, the biggest barrier has just been, I don't think they wanted to play center field. - Well, now they can just keep church in center field. - Yeah, they can just keep church in center field. I think that could work out, yeah. - Ooh. - I know it's Heimblum, right? In charge of the Cardinals. I know he's talked about how they think with as much as he's striking out a triple A, it's gonna make them too exploitable for major league pitchers and they wanted to see improvement there. And a lot of times, people in the front office will kinda make excuses for why they're not calling up a player, but that's something we can all see, right? That's, if they, their metrics may be telling them that Baez isn't fully baked yet, and so they may hold off. But my guess is we'll probably see him come up and respond. If not right away, then once we reach mid-August and inside of 45 days to go in the season, so that Baez keeps his rookie eligibility for next year. - Right. Joshua Baez, 44% roster right now on CBS. And feels like I think one of the bigger winners so far from this deadline, again, we don't have confirmation that he's getting called up, but with a spot available, that seems like it would make a lot of sense there for Josh Baez and the St. Louis Cardinals. Again, Lars Newbar headed to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Let me get back to this rundown and see what else is going on. We left off with Luis Arise who went to the Phillies. I will just quickly mention the return for the Luke Weaver trade. The Metz got Sammy Stafora in return there. And it's got, I feel like we mentioned him on one of the FBT express episodes. He's kind of been a little bit of a breakout prospect this season, right? - Yeah, good power for a short stop. And I believe if I remember that recording, he waits rates well defensively, a lot of strikeouts, so it feels a little Carson Williams-like. But I mean, good return for a reliever at the trade deadline. Definitely, you could definitely see a path for Sammy Stafora to become somebody of note. - All right, moving on, we had the Brewers, Chris, they listened. They listened to your rant about Tarek's Google and they responded by acquiring Dustin May and Chojo Romero from the Cardinals in exchange for Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale. So pretty. - Oh, wow. I did not get the return. - That is a lot. - That's what I got in the scoop. Come on. - The past, like 307 days or so, have really made me think, majorly baseball teams really value Dustin May, a lot more than I thought they did because that's a big return. It's not quite as inexplicable as the James Tibs return last year when Dustin May was pretty clearly running out of steam, but I don't like Dustin May's fine. He's a pretty good pitcher. He's probably not their worst starting pitcher. I just, you look at the Brewers and it's like, they have a tree outside of the stadium where Dustin Mays grow and little children around Milwaukee can just walk up and pick up a Dustin May and put them in their pocket and take them home. It is just not at all the kind of difference making move that a team that has failed in the playoffs as often as them should be making. Dustin May is fine. If he's your third or fourth starter in the playoffs, there will probably be teams in the playoffs with fourths, third or four starters. So that's fine. I just, I wanna see them try. So, and this isn't trying. - Not to read. - Those are the give up and prospect, I'd like to try and figure out if I can make a change. - I don't know. - I don't know. - Yeah, I mean, these are two, I guess I'll get into that. Like Josiah Ragsdale, we just talked about, and I think all the last prospects edition of the Fantasy Baseball Express, and we talked about Alexander Freas earlier this year too, because Freas 18 years old made it to full season ball this year. He already scuffled a little bit, but he was putting up monstrous numbers, good exit velocities in the rookie league, and seemed like he was on, I think baseball America even put him at the end of their top 100 as an 18 year old. - Fangrafts. - Fangrafts hasn't 43rd in their mid season update. - Wow. - Fangrafts is always a little out there, but still. - Yeah, but still. - Yeah. Josiah Ragsdale's the one who's really caught my attention lately, because the power was seemingly where he came up short, as a prospect. At the time of this trade, 10 home runs in his last 13 games, brings him to 19 for the year to go along with 31 steals. He's got a 441 on base percentage between high A and double A, basically even numbers between those two stops. I mean, his overall stat line at double A looks about like Josue de Paulus does, and I don't think he hits the ball nearly as hard as de Paul. I'm not saying he's that caliber of prospects. Prospect Josiah Ragsdale, but he's available in a lot of dynasty leagues, and I think definitely worth a pick up, especially now that this trade is gonna draw even more eyes to him. - Well, he's not available in our dynasty league. I just checked, and he's rostered by Scott White. - I believe I checked during our podcast last week when you mentioned him as well. Scott always has, he's gotta be careful because whenever he brings these prospects to the table, he knows I'm probably gonna search, or you're gonna search him up, and then he's like, "Oh, man, I gotta add this guy before I add him, "before I put him in this prospect report "because I know these guys are gonna try steal him away." - I got a problem in the dynasty league because I picked up so many of these prospects that I now can't fill out a starting lineup as someone who's contending. So, you know, feel free to make me an offer. Getting back to Dustin May, beyond the brewers angle of it all. I think this is a small benefit to him. The brewers in field defense is phenomenal. And Dustin May has a reputation as a ground ball pitcher. He's actually not as much of one as he used to be. I wish he was more of a ground ball pitcher. I'd feel even better about this, but his fielding independent pitching number, that's fit, but I just reminding you what FIP stands for, fielding independent pitching is 314. His, his, Babip is much higher at 322 than his career mark of 282. So it seems like defense has let him down in St. Louis in a way that it might not in Milwaukee with as good as that in field defenses. I don't think he's actually gonna be a low 3ZRA guy there. His XERA is closer to 4 and might be a little more home run prone in Milwaukee. I feel like he's had good home run look anyway this year. But I do think this trade makes it more likely he remains a pitcher of consequence in 12 team leagues, Dustin May, when I wasn't so sure of that in St. Louis. On the cardinal side of things, obviously this clears up a rotation spot. They recently called up Quinn Matthews, who we spoke about a lot on last night's podcast and look pretty good in his debut. He was crushing it down at AAA. And so he should remain in the rotation, assuming he doesn't just like face plan to anything like that. So if you picked up Quinn Matthews, I think you should feel pretty good about his opportunity and his runway moving forward here with the St. Louis Cardinals moving down the list. I'm just waiting the clocks about to strike six. - I mean, we just got the big Victor Vodnic trade we've been waiting for. - 6 p.m. Like we're a seconds away. - They usually come out like 8. - 6.7. - 6.5.4.3.2. What happened? - Happy New Year. - And so down all the beatwriters tweet at it once. - Yeah. - We might hear of something still that happened. - No, there are always trades after the deadline. The Rockies didn't clear up any of their log jam. And in fact, they traded four Connor Norby who doesn't really matter, but just that's a little bit frustrating given what we were hoping. The Rockies would do. And it seems like everybody stayed put for the Rockies, which is annoying. - It seems like Tyler Malley's the braids big rotation upgrade. - You gotta love it. - Yeah, I'm looking at the Rockies roster now. - We deppers. - Anybody? - Deppers. - Not yet, nothing's come through on Deppers. Nothing has come through on the Mariners. No George Kirby, no Emerson Hancock. nothing like that. So I think they felt fortunate to get something for Castillo. And that will that the other two options there were more if they couldn't get something for Castillo with as much money as he's owed. We are getting some buzzer beaters. Here we go. Kirby Yates to the pirates. Casey Mise to the closer. Casey Mise to the Padres just happened. Okay. The Padres finally getting a pitcher who's not totally washed up. That's nice. Yeah. Hey, Robby Ray would like a word. Yeah. The Padres finally got a pitcher who's not totally washed up in Casey Mise. Wow. I mean, dudes. He's got like, oh, look, I have Robby Ray on my preseason. I had Robby Ray on my preseason bus list. You guys gave me a hard time for that. So I'm my room. I was ahead of the curve there. I don't remember that one. I learned to take a compliment. I went that one from the memory. Scott. Yeah. It's um, he hasn't actually been a bus yet though. Right. Someone now has the array. It's actually really good. Some of the log jams that we wanted to see cleared were not cleared. And that is frustrating. Cubs position players. Right. Cubs. Cubs really didn't do. I mean, they they made multiple trades, but yeah, they weirdly didn't clear up any of those log jams. And I guess they got better through depth, but it's another one where it's like, you realize you're allowed to get like a good pitcher, right? Like the Cubs entirely their entire rotation is like, they got like eight number four starters right now. I don't really don't really understand it, but I guess it's okay. Another teeny tiny trade that's stuck in there was the guardians acquired Nathaniel low from the Cincinnati Reds. So they looked to add a little bit more offense once again. And the pirates, they really need a bullpen help. They added Kirby eights. They also just added Lake Bocker from the Miami Marlins. They are adding a lot. I still think Luke Weaver should be the name there, but we'll see how things play out with the pirates bullpen. Let's talk about the Cubs because we were just talking about their log jam and we were hoping that you know, they would trade away some of these young players who are ready to play, you know, names like Pedro Ramirez or James triantos or Kevin Alcansora even, you know, just get them. They did do it with Biosteros. So I guess that's one name, but you know, we could have had more the Cubs acquired clay homes and Tyrone Taylor from the New York Metz in exchange for Jefferson Rojas who pretty big prospect there. That's the top 100 name there. So nice return there for the New York Metz and the Cubs also acquired Braxton Garrett from the Marlins in exchange for Jonathan Long and Jason Beck. So couple of pictures coming in here. Chris obviously, I think the Cubs are a great landing spot. I know like the wind blowing out at Riggly could lead to more home runs at times, but they far in a way have the best defense and baseball. So getting someone like clay homes who has a pitch to contact guy, I think it's a really good move for him. And even Braxton Garrett, like, yes, he's made two starts in the majors this year and they were awful with the Marlins, but he's actually made a lot of really really good starts in the minor. So like maybe he will matter as well for the Cubs. Yeah, I mean, you look at the rotation and it even with Ben Brown still out and Edward Cabrera still out and they're both on the way back. I think Cabrera is probably closer. He started a rehab assignment last week. Clay homes should be back soon. Horns out for the year, steel doesn't sound like they're getting anything, but like this is suddenly a deep rotation. Like they have a lot of options. It's just some of those options are Javier Assad and David Peterson and Colin Ray who aren't very good. And I think Colin Kevin Gosmer at this point, a decent pitcher, but not a great one unless he you know, figures out how to arrest this slide that he's on. But it's just this is a rotation I would feel pretty good about at the beginning of a season knowing how much attrition you're going to deal with over the course of the season. Staring down the barrel the final two months of the season when you're one of the most expensive teams in baseball and you're probably going to make the playoffs, but you know, we'll need to win a wildcard round and take on a better team in the divisional series and all that. It feels pretty underwhelming. The Cubs could absolutely have used a difference maker and they did not get one. And I think that's a bummer. There was a false report earlier that they acquired read debtmers and that would have made a lot more sense. That was reported and look, debtmers has his own limitations and flaws. So that is more you can at least dream on some upside there, whereas I don't think you can really dream on too much upside for some of the other guys they got, but debtmers is no sure thing either. I still have a lot of faith in Cosmon personally. Seeing that a lot of the underlying data looks the same as the previous two years and that he was much better in the second half each of the previous two years, I think he could function. He's going to have to be their number one, but I think he could be, I actually look like a number two rest of season. And then Iminaga is the legit number three. I would say boy to let you number four. Boyd Cabrera, like those, yeah, I don't hate their rotate. It's not a bad rotation. It's just they clearly don't have anyone that can line up with the top end of the Dodgers or Berger's rotations. The Braves have at least one better starting like it's it's just they they definitely have like, I don't know of all the playoff teams or maybe like the best number seven starter, but again, I think that matters more at the beginning of a season than at the end. This is the point in the season where the Cubs should be consolidating their talent, putting together the best possible 26 man lineup that they can. And really it's like the top 15 guys that really matter in the playoffs. And so that's why it's just it's frustrating. It's frustrating to see another contender not punting. They didn't punt the birds didn't punt. They just didn't they didn't get a lot better at least at the high end. And that's what I think they needed to do. We do have the return for the Casey Meistraid. So the Padres got both Casey Meist and Gage Workman from the Tigers in exchange for cash mayfield and Jackson Wolf. So two pitching prospects there headed to the Detroit Tigers. I know I think Wolf is, yeah, Wolf is older. He's 27 years old. So perhaps he gets an opportunity right away. Cash mayfield is the complete opposite. He is 21 years old. He's in high A. So he's probably a little bit further away. Fangrafts has his ETA at 2029. So that is the return there for the Tigers. He was there first around pick two years ago and his cash mayfield and has been decent at high A this year. You don't forget a name like Cash mayfield. It's a great name. 80 great. Yeah. Yeah. And yeah, I think for a two month rental like Casey Meises, that's too free agent. Yeah. Yeah. I make sense then. I was like, that seems a little light. But now if he's, yeah, that makes sense then. So if you guys had to guess who just winds up in the Cubs rotation, you know, from this point moving forward, obviously things are going to change once guys get healthy. But who do you think the five are going to be? Like Boyd Emanaga, Gossiman, obviously Clay Holmes. And then is it is it Peterson Ray Assad or I think it's got to be Cabrera when he's healthy. Yeah, I think it'll be Cabrera, but I guess in the meantime. Um, I don't think that's Peterson. Yeah. Yeah. Dean Peterson's been decent and because he's been decent for a few years like in a fifth starter or so or way. Yeah. They haven't ruled out been Brown coming back. I would imagine with these two rotation additions that the trade deadline Brown rather than trying to build them up as a starter. They'd use them in relief. Obviously his futures in the rotation, but he's in the mix as well eventually. Mm hmm. I do think Clay Holmes winds up being a decent sized winner here. Just because again, pitching the contract and having that defense behind him, 57% roster. I think he makes for pretty intriguing waiver wire ad. Yeah. I think in Roto, the the upside's pretty limited. Yeah. You know, he's always been a low strikeout right guy. I don't think that's going to change. He's I think ERA and whip up in a five and dive kind of guy. He's not also not going to be a 265 ERA or whatever it is the rest of the way, but a 365 ERA guy like I think he can be fine in the way Dustin May is likely to be fine. That's useful. Mm hmm. I'm trying to remember who we were talking about as waiver wire ads last night. I guess it was like would you rather add Clay Holmes or Quinn Matthews right now. Oh, Matthews. I just think there's a lot more upside and it's a very good defense there. Like I know, you know, the Cardinals don't have quite as good of a defense as the Cubs, but it's still quite good, especially in the infield. What about Clay Holmes or who are the others? Walbert, Arania and Shane. I would take Arania probably drawing as well, although I guess we got to see whether he sticks in the rotation after Dustin May was traded there. I would guess he would. I would think I would think it would be Brandon Sprote or Robert Gasser who's removed before drawing is. Yeah. All right, keeping things moving here. I don't see any other trades that are popping in. Yeah, nothing, nothing big has come in so far. Jack Sawinsky for Hunter Fedusa. Anyone's following along on that one. A couple big name right handed hitting outfielders. earlier in the day, the Guardians acquired Joe Adele from the Angels for Catcher Prospect Jacob Khozart and the Mariners acquired Taylor Ward from the Orioles for Reliever Alex Hoppy and two pitching prospects, Harrison Creeling and Brock Moore. Scott, what do you do? - Oh, Hoppy. - Not that Hoppy. - No, not that Hoppy. Scott, what do you think here about the landing spots for Joe Adele in Cleveland and Taylor Ward to Seattle? - I am not particularly moved by either. It's a downgrade and venue for both. I think in Taylor Ward's case, maybe a crippling one. And honestly, the thought crossed my mind, okay, if they're dedicating an outfield spot to Taylor Ward now in Seattle, does that relegate Dominic Kanzone, who we've been so excited about to a platoon role again? I don't think it does because he would still need a right-hand a platoon partner. It's not like Taylor Ward becomes his right-hand a platoon partner and the options there are Victor Robles and Rob Reff Snyder, Lefty Masher, though he's been in the past, both of those guys. They've been terrible. So I think Kanzone is safe, but I can't guarantee it. And meanwhile, I don't think Seattle is a place where you would normally expect a player who's been struggling with power to regain it. So seems like a stockdown situation for Taylor Ward, if you had been painstakingly avoiding dropping him and like a three-out fifther league I'm thinking because Taylor Ward usually comes around. I, you know, you could weigh your options now. I'm not counting on a rebound for him. Joe Adele, it is a park downgrade. I think Joe Adele's biggest problem is Joe Adele. And so if he snaps back and is locked into the ball like he was last year, he'll be fine. The power should play in Cleveland, but maybe you could make the change of scenery case for him. I'm not counting on a big turnaround for him, though. - For whatever it's worth, and maybe it's not very much. Taylor Ward has looked much more Taylor Wardy on the road this season. He has a 668 OPS at home and a.033 ISO. He is slugging 278 at home compared to a 418 slug 169 ISO. That sounds like Taylor Ward. Plates is much better at home, a little worse on the road, but yeah, I, well, let's give him a, let's give him a, he's going to Seattle. It does seem like it might be a moot point either way. I'm sure he's played a decent amount of Seattle. - Right, I was looking that up since he spent so many years in the same division. He probably has a lot of it bats there and we can get a good idea. 195 career hitter at T-Mobile Park. - Two home runs and 120 seven played appearances. - A really tough place to hit. So they usually have good pitchers too. - Yeah, if you had gone anywhere else, I think you might be able to talk yourself into it. - Maybe he's probably not as bad as he's been so far, but it's, you know, I think it's likely not going to be great for Taylor Ward there. - All right, again, the names there were Taylor Ward to the Seattle Mariners and Joe Adele to the Cleveland Guardians. We'll get back to the trades in a second. I want to thank everybody again for being here. The trade deadline is over, barring something coming in very late here. We're starting to get confirmation of who didn't get traded. - Right, right. So I think that's mostly it. So my prediction of a big name, we didn't really get that big, big name traded here at the deadline. Obviously, Tarrick's Google a couple of days ago, but that wasn't today. But big thing. - Rushman was the big one today. - Yeah, that was a big one. - That surprising, not just because it's a big player and one who they didn't have to trade, but like go back a couple of years, Rushman was supposed to be the phase of the franchise. - They got five playoff games out of the Adley Rushman era. Like they hit the pick. - That's crazy. - And a bunch of other ones and they did not win a single playoff game with the Adley Rushman on the roster. That is-- - And you were pretty critical of them not being more aggressive to go out and get pitching at the time. - Nobody listens to Chris, but he's not an idiot all the time. - I mean, they did do the Corbin Burns thing, but it was only one year of Corbin Burns. - Right, but then the problem with the Corbin Burns trade was that was one where they think they had just lost Grayson Rodriguez. And so it was like, okay, you got Corbin Burns. You still at the time had like Dean Kramer as your number three. I think Charlie Morton was the number two. And it was like, no, you gotta like go get more. They didn't give up anything for Corbin Burns at the time either. It was like Joe Yartese and Diel Hall, I think. So it was like, that was the problem. It's to go all in sometime at some point. - And the Orioles never did. I honestly, I'm stunned Michaelisah has that job. (laughs) - Man, I do wanna thank everyone for being here once again, nearly a thousand people watching. It's obviously a massive day, the MLB trade deadline. And we are covering all the trades. Still there's a lot more to get to. We'll cover from a fantasy perspective. And I guess before we wrap up to try and figure out who the biggest winners are here from the trade deadline and who we're looking to add in fantasy and all that fun stuff. But we continue on with the trades and the raise. We've acquired Liam Hicks from the Marlins for three prospects, Braden Taylor, Adrian Santana and Jacob Kisting and Hicks to the raise here. Similar lineup in terms of run scored. Seems like a slight park downgrade potentially. But Chris, what do you think here? You're Miami Marlins making some moves. Liam Hicks to the Tampa Bay raise. - I thought it was a really smart move for the Marlins to get what they could for Liam Hicks because he's kind of fallen apart. He's over the past two months. He's still hitting 2.99. The power just hasn't been there. And that was the big surprise early on in the season was how much power he was hitting for. - And we were saying all season, like he's, we think he's a good hitter for average. It's just he doesn't have the kind of, he doesn't have the kind of contact quality that should translate to the sort of power or even pulling the ball enough to translate. - Yeah, he had started doing that a little more. He added this lead kick earlier on in the season, but it hasn't really stuck. And I think it's a curious fit actually with the raise because Liam Hicks is a really bad defensive player at catcher. I have no idea. I can't say I've watched close, paid close enough attention to how he is at first base, but he's been playing primarily DH. And my sense is that is the right place for him. Well, there's nowhere but catcher for him to play in Tampa unless they're gonna start benching Jonathan Ronda. Who in fairness has been really bad for a couple of months himself. Jonathan Ronda's OPS, I think is down below 700 since June 1st. So really, I believe it's June 1st since June 1st. Yeah, he's been, I think he's been hitting for average, but the power has just disappeared. - Yeah, 270 with three homers since June 1st for Aranda, a 707 OPS. - Okay, so just over 700, but I don't think they should bench him. - Certainly not for Liam Hicks. So I guess Liam Hicks is just the catcher now in Tampa. And he's a good hitter for a catcher. - He's a good hitter for a catcher. - He was Nick Fortes and I think Hunter Fadoosa, who they just traded for a catcher. - Yeah, Hunter Fadoosa. - Okay, yeah, he's got to be the catcher. - But it's not great for their pitching staff, but whatever, I guess you just kind of like the Phillies. If you're not gonna, I mean, the race actually have a ton of prospect talent, they just clearly weren't willing to give up much of it. So if that's the case, then you're gonna have to make some limitation or some decisions. - I do think catcher is one of those positions though, where you can see huge defensive strides, which are a little adjustment. And maybe the race sees something they can do there with Hicks. It's a weird trade in many ways. Like I didn't even imagine Hicks was on the market because he's under team control through 2030. And the Marlins have not been terrible offensively in a big part of it's been Liam Hicks. It seemed like, okay, maybe they don't trust him as a catcher, but it seemed like he had emerged as a breakout offensive player for them. And so based on the return they got, their willingness to trade him, they were viewing him as a DH. 'Cause I don't have the names in front of me, but just hearing you say them, none of them struck me as like Tyler. - That's an okay prospect. - I feel like he used to be more highly regarded, right? He's one who's lost a little bit of steam. - It depends who you ask. Prande Graf's did slide him back into the top 100. At the mid season point, he's having a decent season down at AAA, hitting 284, a lot of walks, pop in and speed. But it's his second time at AA, he's 24 years old. So I think it's pretty iffy. - I do view it as just kind of, I think my sense of what the Marlins were doing was, they have a lot of left handed hitters who are all in kind of the same stage in development and club control and you know, cost hours and foster griffin and oh, in case he went, he's back and all those guys, maybe you like hicks better than them, but I think the way they were viewing it was, just whatever the best package we get for any of those guys is, we'll move one of them. And it doesn't seem like a great package to me, though, for a player who was in All Star this year, Liam Hicks. He certainly hit All Star. And he was under control for a long time. I think the Marlins traded him way. This is what a D.H. is worth. And then the race were thinking, oh, well, this is what we see him as a catcher. So he's worth a lot more to us. Possibly. And the last three trades that we've discussed, Hicks to the Rays, Joe Adele to the Guardians, Taylor Ward to the Mariners, while it doesn't really change much, I think, from a fantasy perspective. Those were all massive needs for each of those respective teams. So good on them to obviously address some of those needs. The Rays definitely needed catcher help. So they got and get Liam Hicks, a catcher who hits for good batting average and makes a ton of contact. I mean, that's exactly what the Rays want to do. They have the lowest strikeout rate in all of baseball. So they add another hitter who has a sub 10% strikeout rate to that lineup. So fitting in pretty seamlessly there with the Tampa Bay Rays for the Marlins, very clearly Joe Max job here. And he's actually been pretty good from like a two-caturally perspective for fantasy. And it does open up that D.H. spot. Feels like Hariburto Hernandez, although he's been playing every day anyway. He was somehow feels some D.H. I think his playing time is just solidified with this move. And I think it's really, really good for him because he hits the ball hard. And I think we all kind of like him. Yeah, there was some concern about his playing time when Owen Casey came back from the aisle. I think that happened yesterday or-- Yeah, I was-- --internand as wasn't in the lineup yesterday. So you could have had a little concern about that. I think that's probably out the window now. I saw someone ask in the chat. Obviously, Ramirez has not been very good at AAA. So I don't think we're going to see him back this year. Yes. That's crazy how that one fell apart, huh? Yeah, that was-- Ketcher has been about as good as we expected. And the Marlins have had a must-start Ketcher, just like we expected. It just was not the guy we thought it would be. Yeah. I was seeing Ramirez in 59 games at AAA this year. 254, 7 homers, 17 steals, 759 OPS, 10% wall, 22% K-rate, lots of ground balls. Still getting the ball really hard. It's just-- unless you're a great hitter because he's a really bad Ketcher, it's just-- It's not going to work. You have to be an above average hitter from the right-hand side as a DH or First Basement. And right now, Augustine Ramirez has nothing in the minor. So I do not think that we are going to see him anytime soon. Rolling down the list here, we have the Padres who-- we mentioned earlier, they acquired Robbie Ray. They acquired Casey Meis. Getting more into the Robbie Ray trade, they did get him from the Giants for two prospects-- Pitcher, Miguel Mendes, and Shortstop, Joniel Hernandez. And Robbie Ray joins a better team. Obviously, Oracle Park is a great park to pitch in. Defensive metrics seem pretty similar between both the Giants and the Padres here. Another trade, just a good need trade for the Padres. They obviously needed arms in that rotation. Sounds like Nick Pavella and Joe Musgrove could be back, maybe sometime in August or September. Scott, does this really change anything? It feels like still a good pitcher's park for Robbie Ray is what he is, like a streamer type. Sure. I mean, he is what he is. I think we're worse than he is. We're at a point where we think he's worse than he is. Yes. So that's 3-080RA, definitely, for having a much lower strikeout rate than he's had before. He's not far removed from being a worse strikeer. I believe it's the worst strikeout rate of his career. Yeah. Yeah. That is correct, yeah. Unless you count that brief showing for the Tigers in 2014. Yeah. So 443 expected ERA, 436-FIP. Like we're counting on massive regression here. And San Diego's a good place to pitch, but so was San Francisco. I don't think that's going to salvage him in my eyes. I mean, and I'm not-- I'm not dinging the Padres for saying this. They had Walker Bueller. They had Hermann Marquez in their rotation. They had JPCers. I'll take Robbie Ray over them. But I do think this is the Warnout Husk of Robbie Ray. And they may bear the brunt of that in a way the Giants did it. It's the pitching version of what we talked about with Philadelphia, where the Padres are so limited in what they can actually do based on how many trades they've made and how bad their financial situation apparently is that your only choice is to make a probably pretty gross move and hope it works out. And I think that's what we're seeing here with the Robbie Ray trade. The players they gave up, they don't seem like foundational pieces, but one of them is 17. You never know. One I'm 17 and doing well in the Dominican summer league. So you never know how that's going to work out. Mm-hmm. I will throw a deep name out there. Someone who could potentially fill in in the Giants rotation with them trading Robbie Ray away. Tugboat Matt Wilkinson. Who is that really how tugboats like? Oh, ah, ah. His most recent start at AAA seven shut out innings with nine strikeouts to one walk. He had not gone more than five innings in any other start this season. So clearly his best start of the year at AAA. But yeah, it does a deeply name to know out there is Matt Wilkinson potentially getting called up with the Giants. Love it. All right, continue y'all. We had the Astros who acquired Dalton Varsho for Spencer Erigetti. So here we go, a little trade. Yeah, challenge trade. It's major league or for major league. Astros definitely needed some outfield help. Varsho is still a fantastic defender in center field. But the everything that we were excited about last year in terms of bat speed and average exit velocity is gone for Dalton Varsho. Yeah. He gave it back and then some all the power gains. So remember last year he homeworked 20 times in 71 games. That was a 46 home or pace over 162 games. And it wasn't just the surface level numbers there. His bat speed was up. His fast swing rate was way up. They're both down to even lower than they were prior to 2025. So three mile per hour drop in average swing speed almost. And the fast swing rate has been cut in half from 56%, which is very high to 28%. And so it certainly makes sense why his power has dropped off. What I find interesting about this, the Astros kind of have a reputation for nurturing swing speed. And I mean, obviously they know this data I just gave you, both this year and the history for Dalton Varsho. And he's an impending free agent. So is two months going to be enough to salvage him? Obviously hard to say. But I think there's a chance. It is a park upgrade too. I mean, the park factor for left handed batters, home runs. I mean, right handed batters got to be pretty good in Houston too. But for left handed, it was surprisingly high. It was 118. The home run factor for left handers in Houston. So park upgrade organization that might be able to salvage something there for Varsho. I think in five outfield or leagues, there is renewed reason for optimism. Certainly not a guarantee, but there's some hope. 69% rostered for Dalton Varsho. That never feels so high. I think our projections remain very high on him. That's why I didn't feel like I could say, oh, you can add him again if I'm not feeling that. Really? Maybe if you were thinking about dropping him, maybe hold off. I was going to compare him to some other names, but Lars Newbar, for example, is only 12% roster. So it's not really the same conversation. Very bad to heard and this is still like 35 or something. And I would still make that swap if that's what it took. It is thin, thin, very thin reason for optimism. I'm just saying it's theirs. What about the other side of this trade, Spencer, Arrogate, headed to the blue jays. It looks like their rotation is pretty full at the moment. They have Dylan Seas. They have Trey Asavage, Jose Soriano. They have Shane Bieber. Max Scherzer just came back. They also acquired James and Tyrone. Got a nerve issue in his foot. Does Arrogate. So that's the sort of injury. It's hard to put a timetable on it. So I'm, look, there are obviously last place in the ALEs. This was a trade they made with next year in mind. And it may be that we don't see Arrogate again until next year when Scherzer and I think Tyrone is on an expiring deal, right? Yeah. So I think that's more the thinking. I don't know. Maybe he'll make an appearance like this year, but I want to get your, your hopes up for much of an impact there for Marigetti. So maybe next year because there's plenty, the plenty to work with here as well. He has an incredible curve ball. It gets weak contact. It misses a lot of bats. It gets a little. to infatuated with the fastball at times and it's not very good and he walks a lot of guys. But it's, it's, there's enough potential for the blue jays to mold Eric Eddie into something. And I think that's why they acquired him. We'll see if it actually happens. Yeah. We have seen flashes from Eric Eddie, but in his career, it's a 466 ERA in a 139 whip. So I was about to say I think this is a, it still might be a pretty savvy move by the blue jays because Eric Eddie's under control through 2031 and you get that for a expiring Dalton Varsho. So it's a good, it's a good role to dice. Yeah. Scott, one of your guys got traded just under the deadline. Colby Thomas is a filly now. You, you like him, right? I feel like he's one of those guys you, you always bring up. I don't, I don't know when the last time I brought him up with you bring him up all the time. We don't always talk about how much you love Colby Thomas. Okay. I was doing a bit sorry. You like white got traded. That's who I thought you were going to say. Oh no. What are your kids going to do with their Eli white jerseys? Burn him. That is hard. Probably keep him. That's, that is the appeal of getting a jersey with your own name on it is when the player's gone. It's like, well, you know, it's just like a personalized jersey. I got to get a, I got to get a Kevin or Josh Towers jersey. That was that guy's name, right? Yeah. I believe you just, yeah. Rick Wolf always shows up to a, to first press Arizona. I don't know any of the California towers. Getting back to the trades from earlier, the Cubs also acquired Ryan Zepher John from the angels. We spoke about that return. Moises by Astero's and Mason McGuire went to Son of Mark. Is he actually? Yeah. I didn't know that. Let's go. We also, you also missed Caden's son of Jeff Kent was traded. Yeah. Was, was Mason the batboy for the Cardinals in 1998? Or was that a different son? I don't know. Is that he couldn't it couldn't have been that. No, he couldn't. That guy's, that guy's got to be too old by now. That that kid's almost 40, probably. I believe maybe yes. Okay. Yeah. That's Son of Mark. Yes. There's a MILB Instagram, Mason McGuire parentheses. So with the Cubs acquiring Ryan Zepher John, do you a do you think he factors into the Cubs saves mix in the meantime while Daniel Pollence is still out and who is left to get saves for the angels? It probably doesn't matter, but it doesn't matter because their team leader hasn't been on the team since April and has four saves probably going to be Ben. Probably going to be Ben Joyce once he's back right? I guess I guess Zepher John ended up tying him with four before he ended up leaving, but. Yeah. I didn't even think of that Chris did when he wrote about the trade. Yeah. The Cubs didn't get a real closer. So I guess Zepher John's is good of a bet as any. I mean, the thing is Jacob Web's actually pretty well. So I'm a little surprised they haven't stuck him in the role, but clearly they're thinking Daniel Pollence will be back and good enough when he returns that that must be what they're thinking for the ninth. Zepher John could get a few saves in the meantime. Zepher John is pretty good, I think. I don't know if he's great. The control has been really bad, although it was really good in July. He had like a 5% walk rate in July, but he misses a ton of bats. His slider or sweeper and four seemer both have a weight for eight over 40%. That is a crazy number for four seemer. And I saw they've got a stat on baseball, Sevant. It's like late swing percentage and I think he has the third or fourth highest in baseball on his four seemer. So he just hitters do not have a good time with Ryan Zepher John's four seemer. So, you know, if the control is not disastrously bad, it's 14% walk rate overall, but if it's like 10%, he could matter in the in the night, then he for the Cubs. Sure. Yeah. If I had to guess, I think they probably mix in match, but you bring up good points about Zepher John Jacob Web has pitched well and then Caleb Thielbar as that lefty who's been like, okay, for them. So I think they probably mix in match until Daniel Pollence is back, which hopefully sometime in August, but we'll see what happens with him. And then for the Angels, I again, it probably doesn't matter. I think maybe Sam Bachman would get the next save opportunity, but I know Ben Joyce has been rehabbing and probably we'll be back with the Angels pretty soon as well. Speaking of relievers, the raise acquired Tyler Wells from the Orioles for Michael Ferret and taking a look at the Orioles. Is there is it like Andrew Kitchridge in your cano Rico Garcia and told him, I'll see back if Ryan Helsie even returns. I don't feel like spotistas working his way back to. Yeah, he hasn't started like, I think he's just been doing bullpen's. I know there, there was a report a couple weeks ago. Michael, I said he looked really good, but I don't think he's probably progressed to facing hitters yet, working his way back from a torn capsule in his shoulder, I think it was a very serious injury. So it's a long shot, but him and Helsie both could be back by the end of August or early September. So I would guess it's Kitchridge since he's been kind of the guy lately along with Wells. I think Kanau just got a contract extension. So they are in on him, but he's never really emerged as anything more than a set up guy. Yeah. There is a decent amount of just new C stuff coming out right now and Mitch Keller placed in the 60 day IL with a terrace major strain in his shoulder. So he's probably going to miss the Russian season. Dalton rushing was placed in the IL with a anybody want to make it offer for those prospects in my dynasty. Mitch Keller was one of my four healthy starters. My family time to look. Dalton rushing was placed in the IL with an elbow injury. So that would explain why they acquired Hunter Fadooshai, I guess, to help out with both him and Will Smith on the IL. Emmett Sheen was just option to triple A. So I think we can probably just drop Emmett Sheen, right? I think you very much should drop Emmett Sheen because he was really bad in the bullpen for them late last season and now he's not in the rotation. So I don't we'll see him again at some point, but I don't think it's going to be this season. And I also just saw the Giants lineup for tonight. So a team to stream against moving forward. The San Francisco Giants rolling out a lineup of as if we weren't already. Yes. I don't know what the end in N Furman is, but N Furman is their Leof hitter. Jung Huli, Willie Adamis, Rafael Devers, Daniel Susak, Drew Gilbert, Basabe, Grant McCray, Christian costs. That is the Giants lineup. So probably want to stream against them whenever you have the opportunity to make Furman. I confess, I'm not familiar with N Furman. Furman, not familiar with your games, sir. The Dodgers acquired Chris Babich from the royals for Carlos Deren. And so I saw people's initial reaction was like, oh, the Dodgers got Chris Babich is an impending for agent who has thrown like eight pitches in the last three months. Like we don't need to do this every time the Dodgers get a name that you know. Chris Babich probably will not pitch again this season. And if you don't want the Dodgers get him probably as a reliever. Yeah, I don't know. Take a chance. It's the thing the Dodgers do. I had not heard that he was out for the year. So no, he hasn't been, it hasn't been reported these out for the year, but he yeah, he was coming back from an elbow injury through eight pitches in a rehab star and then had a shoulder injury. He has not pitched since June 27 in a game. So that is Chris Babich to the Dodgers. The white socks acquired. Go ahead. He has been throwing. He has been, he has, he started a throwing progression in July. So he's hopefully, hopefully on the road to recovery. I just, I saw people doing the like, oh, the Dodger ends like, no, come on. I mean, I guess it doesn't really matter now if he's on the road to recovery because I imagine the Dodgers aren't going to need him to start games for them. And look, maybe they just give him like a four million dollar extension and like, you know, give him a chance for next season, but that would be interesting. I don't think Chris Babich is going to matter this season. If there's a next season. Yeah, those Dodgers, man, Terrick Scooble and Chris Babich. Well, I can't believe we let them get Chris Babich. That's crazy. The white socks acquired Brenton Doyle from the Rockies for Mason Adams and Carlos [BLANK_AUDIO] Yelma and it looks like Doyle will just be a short side platoon probably defensive replacements. So I think it's just at least one name we got off the Rockies. So if there was any concern about Doyle, he had just returned taking away playing time from like cold carry or someone like that. It won't happen with the Rockies at least. I got to say that one of the big losers of the deadline feels like Charlie Condon. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's no no path was opened. Mickey Moniac state putt. Yeah. Moniac and Moniac winner. Jake McCarthy state putt as almost called a brand of McCarthy like I do half the time. Jake McCarthy state putt. Yeah. It's uh. That's disappointing. And they both Moniac and McCarthy have at least one year of club control left. So they didn't have to get rid of them. It just. The Phillies acquired left handed reliever Brooks Rayleigh from the Metz for Luke Gabbish and John Spikerman. And the Braves acquired Brent Souter from the Angels for Nacho Alvarez. Who could maybe just find the angel right away for the angels love the angels. They just love you are on a top prospects list three years ago. Come on down. We're going to go get you. Yeah. I'm not sure Alvarez even had a 500 OPS at triple A that are 600 OPS at triple A this year. He did 664. I think I was especially smashed 326 look. No. I should expect to a 664 OPS in the international league. Yeah. I believe Spikerman was the third villain in Spider-Man 3. I was watching that the other day. I think that was what happened there. Did anyone see the new Spider-Man movie yet? I have not. It's impossible to get tickets for a big movie in New York City. Like you got it's like a concert. You got to just like you cannot stroll up. I think Freddie Peralta again it's not something that happened here on Monday but I think there is something to redeem there and the razor and organization that I trust to do it. The Dodgers. The Dodgers for getting. I mean you could call Terrick Scoobal himself a winner. Terrick Scoobal. Whoever picks up Terrick Scoobal in an NL only league you are a winner. Yeah. Yeah. You're the winner. He went for $71 out of a $100 budget in my NL only league last night. I assume that person had $71 remaining in their budget. That's what they had. $39 so that's the highest. I assume you put in a $39 bid. I did. I did. I have my best. I always tell myself I'm going to leave more money for the deadline like more fab in my NL only league and then I just I never do it. Kevin Gosman I think is a big winner. Just really really good defensive upgrade for a guy that needs it I think at this point in his career. Josh. Yeah I think we covered the the biggest winners. I think yeah. I think Luis Arise again just getting out of Oracle too and going to Citizens Bank Park. It's a better ballpark. It's good lineup as well. I know that like you know run scored both the Giants and Phillies were pretty close but we all expect the Phillies to be a better lineup moving forward. So that's I think a pretty nice win there for Luis Arise as well. Any big losers. I'm sure that there are a bunch that come to mind here. Luis Castillo I think is the most obvious one. That's one that I could see him just not being fantasy relevant at all. Yeah. With the Y socks pitches home games in Seattle. Yep. Taylor Ward I think is loser Liam Hicks because the playing time may not be quite every day if he's catching. Yeah that's not. Yeah that's not what we said. We didn't bring that up but I think we should have. Yeah that's a good point. Charlie Contan who I mentioned or Zach being if you want to lump him in there. Just because no opening was created. Marcelo Meyer I'm going to call a loser because if the red socks have soured on him that completely maybe maybe there are valuations just wrong but if I had Marcelo Meyer in a dynasty league I'd be accepting Nichols on that dollar at this point. Yeah I'm not even sure it's a dollar anymore but on the other hand he should get a chance to play every day whether he'll do much with it remains to be seen but seem like the red socks really had no hope for him and the giants have every incentive to play him as often as possible at second base I would guess so at least does get it off to Lane Thomas I think we'll go down as a big what loser. I know he's a good one. Pretty fringy. All the club doesn't have to compete with Eli White anymore though. So there's that all the Cubs young bats I think you know yeah Pedro Merez and James Toronto smash all when he's healthy. Kevin Contra any of those guys could have gotten treated so I think that's downgrade for them. Who was that I can't blanket on the name now but who did the who did the Marlins gift for Braxton Garrett from the Cubs. Jonathan Long. So Jonathan long. I feel like you've mentioned him in a prospects report this year. Yeah I think he was in my preseason top 100 and he was I'm sure on the fringes of some others he slash 305 404 479 at AAA last year slash line there this year's pretty close 283 364 455. He can hit I'm not sure there's quite enough power to hold up at first base in the majors but I particularly would leave him hicks out of the picture. He has a path with the Marlins as a 24 year old who is probably a little bit over baked at AAA so keep an eye. We're talking about losers I know and I'm pivoting to a low end winner here in Johnson ball. That's a good call especially because the Marlins could use some right handed bats. They're very lefty heavy. And if you're having trouble finding him he's a Jonathan who spells his name as if it's a Jonathan. A Jonathan. Yeah. Yes. I thought another guy wanted to see a Braxton Garrett was a winner just because he won went to a much better team and two got away from an organization that seems to despise him at this point. But I just I think he's like eighth in the packing order in Chicago so yeah doesn't really change his outlook but if you get to chance I think Braxton Garrett can still be pretty good on the cubs. I have one more of each abamilic or tease with the nationals he did get called up he's in the lineup today he already Homer tonight so getting an opportunity now to play with the nationals. The first game to know that is his first career home run. Okay. This year a triple A for or T's 244 18 Homer 74 RBI 845 OPS 91.3 average EV 15% barrel rate. So and only leagues for sure 15 team. Roto maybe as a corner but just a name to know abamilic or T's and a potential loser you know and your scomas with the Minnesota twins I think that could be a big one so we'll have to see how the twins close a role or just the back into their bullpenchings out there so. All right. Could be Ryan's after John as a winner as well. For sure. I guess is that it do we get everything I think yeah it wasn't too bad. Like they have so many limitations on their roster that it's hard for Nathaniel Lo to be worse than whoever the right-handed first-based slash DH guys. They've been throwing out there. They are. I think Foster Griffin is probably a mild upgrade for their rotation. I do wonder who's gonna come out of the rotation. Are they just gonna go six man? - It's gotta be Shikone, right? - Yeah, I guess, yeah. Yeah, he's been a liability all year.
