TOTALED: Teslas + Wedding Industrial Complex

The podcast celebrates Ride Heritage Month with a heartfelt, community-driven approach that values authenticity over spectacle. Hosts Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone reflect on personal milestones, including a dramatic college-day car crash and a deep bond forged through shared experiences, emphasizing real joy over performative content. They passionately critique Tesla vehicles, calling them nauseating, environmentally irresponsible, and symbolically tied to corporate oppression, urging listeners to reject them and support more human-centered alternatives. The hosts also challenge the "wedding industrial complex," criticizing weddings as overpriced, socially media-driven events that exploit attendees, advocating instead for simple, intimate celebrations rooted in genuine connection. Personal humor, such as the "Grandpa Terry" prank and reactions to pop culture, strengthens their bond and underscores the show's core message: authenticity, self-compassion, and joy over societal expectations. The episode includes advocacy for local politics, mental health support, and small-scale activism, like a Tesla protest and endorsement of progressive candidates. With a mix of personal storytelling, social commentary, and actionable advice, the hosts invite listeners to embrace their true selves and live with integrity, rejecting both consumerism and performative norms. The tone remains uplifting, with a clear message that real connection and self-expression are more important than external validation.

The following podcast is a Dear Media production. I'm Benito Skinner. I'm Mary Beth Barone. And this is Ride. Headlock being back on the charts means the damn world to a guy like me. Needless to say, Imogen, he, he has joined TikTok. Well, of course. So we have her there. Terry O'Connor is running. No, he's not, but he should. I love that woman so much. What an artist, a true artist. When I was in Edinburgh doing the fringe, I was just at a random restaurant. Like it's had like 16 seats in the whole place. Guess who walks in? Imogen Heap. Imogen Heap. I've seen the world, done it all. Why did I say that to you and Terry recently? Had my cake now. I don't even remember that. I don't know. It was just one of many things. Your new era is Monica, Barbaredo. But that's not even her name. And I got her name wrong. And it's Marna. What is it? Mernica. Mernica. It's Monica Barbado. Oh, you said Barbaredo during the Oscars last night. And boy, was my foot on a point. I was literally doing the Tate McRae, which is where you take your ankle and you put it to your ear. It's the new move and pop. And I love it. I could not stop saying this. Monica Barbaredo. And the Academy Award goes to Monica. Monica Barbaredo. And Luca Guadagnino's Queer. So I do want to announce that I have been released from the detainment center. Well, I got visitation rights. Yeah. Oh, and I'm out on good behavior right now. But they said at any moment they could come get me again. There was a true crime thing that happened. It was Bailey Sarian, who I still ride for to this day. She was saying this one person, I remember, got like a day off. Like they got to go out of jail for a day and then they killed someone. I'm not, I'm sorry. I'm not laughing. Was it one of the pardoned people from January? One of them hit someone with their car and got a DUI and killed them. Like both of those things happened. Same incident. You know what I mean? Welcome to Ride Heritage. Jesus. That actually, I have, so I have a few like little things to just note right now. Yeah. First of all, I'm hosting a protest at the Tesla showroom in Stanford on March 16th. Which really ties into. Which ties into what we're going to talk about later. So if you're in the Fairfield County area, it's only actually a really quick train ride from New York. And I'm just excited to see all the girls. And I'm just excited to see all the girls there with their signs and their verbal anger. Because obviously it's a peaceful protest. They're calling it the prettiest rally in the world. In the world. So the other thing is, there's obviously a huge mayoral election in New York this year. And the primaries are on June 24th. And it's ranked choice voting, which I'm going to make a video about. Because you know, my whole new thing, politics for hot people. But I'm endorsing candidate Zoran Mamdani. I think he's fabulous. He's a progressive. He's a socialist. He wants to decrease the cost of living for New Yorkers. And so just like, if you haven't heard of him, look him up. I'm going to be posting about him a lot in the coming weeks and months. Just because we have two really scary people running this year. And I don't want either of them to even like get ranked in the ranked choice voting. So just to flag that that's someone that I ride for. And a lot of us want to activate politically, but the federal landscape is really scary. So local politics are so important this year and next year in the midterms. So just to say that. I loved what Patty Harrison posted about how protests can make you feel. But Patty Harrison, a genius comedian. She's so brilliant. And I love her. We love her so much. But she posted about just going to protests and things actually like made her feel a lot better. And I think like more in control of the situation. I just thought it was, it was brilliant and actually really like it was to this. It's like going to things like that, I think make you feel less powerless. That's really all I'm going to say on that because it's like, how do you cover this stuff? Like Terry with his cultural digest, I was talking to him and I was like, you're doing a good job of not bringing it up too much because it's like, we saw it. Don't cover that. I don't want to, I don't need to see it. I can't call it that anymore. That's not what it is. It's a circus. The amount of evil it would take to like comment on that man's outfit. Every day I wake up and I think like, what fresh hell is going to be show up at my doorstep today? Do you guys really want my low back to hurt this much? I have joy to bring. I know. We have joy to bring and create. You saw something really big this week. I did. And you talk about it, but not give any plot points away or else me and my video will come for you, bitch. Back in the detention center. Why do you think you were there in the first place? Because I broke an NDA. I had the distinct pleasure and honor and joy of watching. Oh, my God. We turned around. She's done. I literally watched it and I just said, I don't even know what to say. I was completely speechless. It's just so incredible to watch it come to life and having been in the writer's room and just seeing the whole process, just like every step of the way, you have handled it with such grace and care and love for the project to the characters, the world. And I just think it's going to like blow people's minds. It was funny watching it with the last three episodes with you. I did realize how many Easter eggs we have for our babies in it. It really is. It's for Barone's first, I would say. Even ones that I'd forgotten we put in there. I know there's so many. Like, I'll just say it right now. Thanks. And I'll say right now, Dr. Bronner's. Oh, my God. There are so many. Yeah. OK, someone will have to make like, I don't know, an Excel spreadsheet. I assume. Exactly. With timestamps. I'm just glad you could see how much you shine. I love us as siblings. I really love us as siblings. Oh, my big takeaway. One of my big takeaways. Oh, this was huge. Other than that, you're a genius, obviously, which was number one. Number two, I was watching on screen and I kept being like, we we look so much alike. Well, you know, the first time I met your mom, she went, oh, my God. Yeah. She was like, you are one of my kids. And then my dad has this game, which actually just ends up making two of my siblings feel bad about themselves. But where we're all at a table and he goes, pick which ones aren't my kids. He did that to you in Seattle, right? I think so. And every time they don't pick Jake, my brother Jake, who has like really dark hair and is like he has more pale tone skin is like he does look like us, but I guess not in the way that you look like us. But not as much as I look like you. And you next to my sister, Laura, next to my sister, Katie, it is like. It just makes sense. Well, duh. I knew we would translate as siblings, but it is kind of like that's my sister. It's one of them. She's both. I know. And boy, does she do it up big. I mean, here's another thing I'll say. I just had so much. Gratitude for getting lunch to you after lunch with you. Lunch to you. Lunch to you. I'm Monica. Monica Barberito. You guys all know what that means to me to hear something like that. And Terry's out of town right now. So Mary Beth's here to babysit me. I swear to God. I said that to JR. I swear to God, you guys all talk amongst each other like because the house is never totally empty. Like my sister will come into you. Like I swear to God. We have a schedule. Share Google calendar. I know that Terry, he does. He's running something because even my, my friend Matt, who yes, is my agent, but he's my friend first. He texted me and goes, I know you're home alone. Like just checking in. I was like, Oh, how do you guys know this? There's a group chat. Good. It's a whole thing. You got to come check on your boy. You guys are going to love it for compensating. It's truly a show just for like, for the people. We're creating joy for the people that we want to create joy for with this show. Yeah. I mean, my greatest hope with the whole show is that you will watch it with your bestie in bed on a laptop. We'll also actually surround sound in a movie theater, but actually when, when not able to a laptop, a laptop or like a Roku TV and you just rip through it and just like, it brings you so much joy and you see real sweet, complicated human beings reflected back at you and your experience in college. But it just, yeah, I'm super proud of it. It's exactly what I wanted to make and we did it. And, we did it with like, flair, chair and everything above. Everything. And God, I love everyone who's in it and like the cast is so amazing. I feel really lucky and if you're listening and you liked my girl abroad or you liked the horoscope videos, thank you for being here. And you're going to love this show. And I just say thank you for being a friend. And thank you for being a friend. Yeah. Happy Ride Heritage Month. And enough with the positivity. To all those who celebrate. So, Heritage Month last year, you know, it was the first time we ever did it. We came up with some fun things to do. We raised money for a trans organization. Yeah. We decided to do a limited edition merch and if you donated money, you were entered to win a Tiffany bracelet. We wanted to be sensitive to the times that we're in, which are that I feel like the cost of living is going up. Yeah. We didn't necessarily want people to like have to spend money on things. So, instead, we're going to do a little bit more of like a cerebral celebration of Ride Heritage Month. With special episodes. I don't even think we're going to have a guest. I think we're just keeping it, we're keeping it pared back and stripped down. Can you believe we couldn't book my boyfriend? We couldn't book Terry because unfortunately he's traveling. That's 103 people in a room. I know it's really hard. I know I couldn't do it. No, it's really hard. It's just crazy. And then obviously the ultimate celebration of Ride Heritage Month is overcompensating. And we have something special coming for that. And we have something really special coming for that. And then I would say like this season's going to end and then you're going to be really happy with what happens next is all I'm going to say. Absolutely. Hey, absolutely. Hey, absolutely. Monica Barberito. Sorry, it hit me. I know. I got to get those out. I can feel when the spirit compels you. It's just, it's in my chest. Like I feel her in my chest. Oh, and one of the things We decided today, because Mary Beth's staying in my house, she's staying in my house. Our rides during this are like so deeply for baronies. Like this, as Heritage, the ones we're picking are on the list. And we're like, that's only if we really want to hit the kids who have been here since the beginning. So that's what we're doing for Heritage. But you're right. And also, we already have the bedazzled tea out. It's forever in the collection. And thank you so much for everyone who donated to the families who needed you and needed us. After the fires. After the fires. So we just want to be sensitive and just say, like, here's some free joy and we don't need you to spend money on anything. But really special episodes and the hitchhike is coming. The hitchhike is coming. Yeah. And today we're doing something really special, which I feel like maybe people aren't going to see coming, but they have requested. And before we get into it, I need to tell the story of when I crashed my car the day that I got into Boston College. But today we're going to be doing an episode called Totaled, where we die for things. Benny, look out! I think about that a lot. Literally. Oh, my exit. We're going to die for some shit. Yeah. It feels good. Come on, let's be a little nasty. I just think with the current administration that we're in, like, being hateful is unfortunately back. We also balance it with being loving. And on that note, I saw on the Reddit people were having a discourse about may they experience the loss of a child. Oh, my God. I didn't mean to spark this. People are scared that when I say, like, jokes we can't tell until season six, they think it's going to be all really dark. It's not. Some of it's just, like, name droppy or funny stories or things that, like. Like, need explanation. They're not all dark jokes. So I don't want people to think that, like, when we're in season six, we're going to be, like, talking about really dark shit. I want to say that, like, that's about as dark as I'll go. And just to be clear, I'm talking about, like, haters and I don't actually mean a child. Well, because there's no they and there's no child. Yeah. So just to be clear. It's very abstract. I am. Deliverance Richards is wishing this on someone who said something awful about her. Just to be clear, she doesn't exist. She's a character who doesn't exist. Yeah. And then. But, yeah, that's really as dark as we go. The rest are just, like, I would say some of the dumbest things you've ever heard in your life. Dumb things and things that we just think, like, we're not ready to hear. But Shai's smug blogging was as dumb. They'll hear about Grandpa Terry. Do you want to get into that right now? Should we talk about it? I don't even know how you're going to explain it because it's so physical. But I'd love to hear how you're going to lay this out for people. Well, sometimes I. So if Terry's family is listening, I would duck out for the next minute. And I can't stress that enough. Or don't because, like. Or don't. See, all of me. You might love it. Hey, you love me. Loving me means loving all of me. So Terry looks at TikTok in his bed and he does a lot of work. In his bed. And you guys do sleep in separate rooms. I can't stress it enough. I live in his house. I mean. And now that you're staying with me, it's your house. So he's on his phone. And I have to get his attention sometimes. But I've created this thing where this is like. Oh, my God. It really just makes you realize. You realize, like, how psychotic I am. I will pretend to be getting fucked by a Terry from the future. The ghost of Terry Jackson is so. Hey, Jackson just walked out. This is my favorite bit of yours. And I'm like, oh, my God, Grandpa Terry. Oh, my God. And I'll, like, bang my head against the headboard. And I'll really commit. Because, you know, physical comedy is my whole thing. He doesn't bat an eye, though. No. It's never worked to get his attention. He didn't say a word about it. And then one day, to me and you, because he knew that you knew about Grandpa Terry, he sends him with the age filter on and goes, Grandpa Terry. And that's when I knew that was my king. But, yeah, just pretend that the ghost of the person you're with from the future is railing you. Because he'd rather rail you in that moment than the person who's in the bed with you. Right. It's kind of the bit. And for that reason, he deserves it. He deserves to be railing you. Exactly. But I love Grandpa Terry. I say hi to him every time I walk in the house. I have to say hi. I have to say hi to Grandpa Terry. Well, of course, you acknowledge him first. Acknowledge the work. And that brings me to my other favorite bit of yours, which is whenever you're watching a TV show and the character looks off screen, you say they're looking at a ghost. So you're like, Carrie is seeing so many ghosts right now in this scene. She, it's the Sixth Sense. If you watch, it's Sixth Sense in the City, sweetheart. Let me tell you, it is like. Oh, Brony HQ is going to have a lot of fun making a poster for Sixth Sense in the City. Oh, God, I know. By the way, Brony HQ, I mean, talk about right heritage. You have my heart. They found the book with the sticker. Stickers. It was circle stickers and gold and gold star stickers. I saw that. You know me to my core. But someone I realized that all of you know me to my core because there was a post of like a seal that had completely like put up its whole like bought like its skin all the way up. So it's just like its little head. And somebody commented at Benny drama trolling Terry. And I was like, that's Grandpa Terry in a way. You understand me to a level that I don't even understand myself. Like, that is what I do to get his attention. Totally. Or if like I'm really in a bind, I tuck quickly and just run out and do Halsey at Coachella, which have we talked about? Of course. We've definitely covered that. But I have video that no one has seen. That's going to stay. And that's season six. The two things we want. Jonathan Bailey, just in the boots, dancing to dancing through life. And we talked with a pregnant belly on Halsey at Coachella. Halsey with the chain smokers. So baby, come on over in the backseat of your room. Come on over. And I know we can afford it. I met one of the chain smokers. Which one? The titular chain smokers. Well, don't ask me that, sweetie. But I loved him. He was a doll. Yeah. I like their music. I can't lie. I'm really pissed because Taika hasn't been at any things I've been to. And I've kind of been on the circuit lately because I'm starting to do press. Presses, press me. What do you want me to say? But I cannot find Taika to save me. But you know who I saw at Vanity Fair? Sebastian Stan. And a respectful king. He said thank you to a couple of people. I said. I was going to go say hi, but then I don't know. He was just so busy. Yeah. But he was really working the room. I mean, as a nominee. But I, you know, my third eye is always open and I can sense dark energy. Didn't get a single bit of it from him. I'm so happy. Seemed like a total doll. Oh, okay. Well, that makes me happy to hear. Well, I hope this doesn't age poorly. Sebastian Stan, you have 10 days to not get me too. Exactly. And please don't. And please don't disappoint us. Totally. So I want to talk about when I got into college. Well, I just, again. I'm amplifying. I'm not adding to. Because you're so right. Mary Beth Barone, age 17 slash 18. I'm taking an APUS government test. APUSgov. She's getting a five. I'm getting it. Well, it's just, it was just a test. It wasn't the test. Oh, God. It was just like a test in APGOV. Don't make me nervous. Sorry. So I'm taking a test. I get a text on my pink flip phone from my dad that says, you got a big letter from BC. So I'm in the middle of a test and I'm reading that text. And I, I stand up in the middle of the test and I go to the window. And I call my dad and I say, oh, I'm on the phone during a test. My, my teacher, Ms. Berkley, bless her. We kind of ran train on that class. It was second semester seniors. And we're just like, we don't care how a bill turns into a law. No, sorry. We just don't care. I'm so sorry. I'm just a bill. I've got a call. See you later. Sorry, LPRB. You took out your sidekick. Dad, what? I go to the window and he opens it and he says, I got in. I literally scream. I leave. In the middle of the test, I leave. I don't know. I don't care about this test anymore. You are. You're dry skin. You said, come pick me up. I said, I have to go. I got into college. So I go out to the senior lot and I get in my mom's Lexus that she let me drive through high school. And I'm in the car. I'm crying. I'm so happy. I think I probably called like one of my siblings or my mom or something. I was freaking out. And so I get in the driver's seat and I'm backing up and I'm like, I'm elated. And then this guy who was in my grade, who was my friend, Pat Green, is like, he's in a car that's like perpendicular to my car. And he's pulling, he's pulling through. And I wave to him and he goes, I can see him through the windshield going, oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I'm putting his hands over his mouth. And it's because I'm backing into a car. So that's why. So that's why. You gagged him, sis. He waves hi to me and he's like, oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. And hands over mouth. And I fully crash into the Audi that was parked behind me. Keep in mind, I have a backup beeper on my car and I have a backup camera. And I have a backup camera. I love when the beep gives up, though. It's like, hey, you've hit them. It's like so unfortunate. Unfortunately, we did everything we could and we still got in a car accident. So you did it. So I literally am like fucking hell. Like, I just got into college. It's such an exciting day. And my top choice, by the way. And so I got into your top choice. Yeah. Congratulations. Yeah. I mean, I left after two years, so I guess I whatever. Everything happens for a reason. I have to get out of my car and I'm like, fuck. And I really wanted to go home. But I had to wait till final period got let out so I could talk to the girl whose car it was and be like, hey, I hate your car. I didn't do hit and run. I got into Boston College. But you have to understand that I got into Boston College. I got into B.C., but I hate your Kia. I'm so sorry. And, you know, I was fully insured as a driver, so I did end up covering the cost and everything. But I've only been in two accidents. Knock on wood. That was the one. Three months later, I'm pulling out of my boyfriend's house. Our friends Range Rovers parked there fully back into it. You're just not seeing it. I don't look behind myself. Hey, here's the thing. I don't like looking at the past. I want to see the future. I look forward. Do you understand that we can't move into the future until we acknowledge our past? You get that. But I didn't get that then. Now you get that. But now I do. So one of my big regrets is that in high school, I was able to drive my mom's car and she was driving like a beat up old car so that I could have a nice car. And then my parents wanted to buy me like a Honda Civic that would have been like just nice to have for the rest of my adult life. We know they last forever. Forever. They're cockroaches. But I was such a little brat and I was like, no, I want to keep driving the Lexus. And I was just like, I, I fucked up. I was being a little brat and I have regrets. I do have regrets. You probably didn't get in trouble, though, because. 'cause it's like you got into BC just like sorry I was so excited I did get in a wreck yeah and I am sorry and yes Honda's did survive the blast along with Shen Yun advertisements and cockroaches the cockroach of cars that's what they say at the dealership Terry has one that he literally like he does like it's kind of like a bop it he slaps the window shield like farts and then it starts literally like what's the pass code this is what in Massachusetts yeah it's oh my god I love that car none of the audio sound system kind of doesn't work but it's like and sometimes it is fully guring like it's really cool there's a roar to it yeah well speaking of cars I want a wreck yeah so should we get into what we die for that feels crazy to say and we're gonna do some mini dies and then we're gonna get into what we really die for do you know what's funny that we there's an invisible string between me and you because I got in a wreck on the way to the ACT did I ever tell you this oh my god I saw a raccoon run across the road I fully stopped on a freeway yeah it's very us because then I went to the ACT but the difference between us is I you would have not gone to the test I went to the test and bomb diggity it was terrible how could you not after having a car wreck you know that's anxiety inducing it was crazy yeah of course my parents were all like why'd you still go to the test and I was just like I don't know because of the pressure of society you guys are talking about these ACT and SAT tests all the fucking time I thought if I didn't I'd die that's what my body thought well you would go to hell for sure which is an easter egg for next week you guys are get ready next week is as ride as ride gets next week is like there's ride heritage there's ride there's ride heritage and then there's like annihilation exactly there's like where ride sees itself so clearly in the mirror that we hold up consciousness yeah it's consciousness do you want to say what you die for as the main headliner so I die for Tesla's and I die for the wedding industrial complex there comes a time in every gay man's life when he must read the Squarespace ad alone this video and podcast is Jackson say hell yeah hell yeah and say Monica Barber a toe Monica Barber a toe thank you I love you so should I get into it like a mini die really quick yeah and my mini die is pretty it's pretty succinct so I'll just say it this I really die for straight men who do front-facing camera comedy critiquing straight male behavior like sometimes it's just so on the nose where I'm like you are that guy like you know the material so well because you are that guy and I don't think straight guys should be in front of the camera my only comment on this is I'm like yeah I don't know if you're that good as an actor no exactly I'm like there's a reason this is land on a little too yeah because then the next post will kind of be about their body you know what I mean I'm like I do know what you mean I don't trust you no my mini die is kind of I assume it's very tied to that in a way it's just moodiness and I've never seen this from a queer person or a woman like they don't bring that shit to work and as I said in the car to you this morning people who have periods I cannot believe you guys are clocking in God knows I wouldn't I thought about that on set all the time yeah like some people on set right now in this moment have their period and they're still here some had him last night at the party I'm like that just breaks my heart and I'm literally like you should say it first you should lead with it if it's not all quiet on the Western front you should be leading with that because you just should show people how much you're able to accomplish in spite of what your body is doing which is revolting against you I always find out after the fact and I'm like oh my god you just did you memorized and you felt this way yeah it's crazy that's the power of my dog baby thank you for acknowledging of course it's just it really blows me away but moodiness I just think moods are for children my loves and if you're gonna bring that in you have to sit in your car take a deep breath don't bring that into work don't don't change the energy of a room no that's insane someone who's moody it just makes me so angry because I'm like you just don't get to do that you don't get to like change everyone else's moods just because you feel your shit on other people it's just not fair I'm like go figure it out and I feel like that's something that I don't know the people pleasing in me I you know sometimes I try to like I try to fight that but that that is one thing I like that I'm like I refuse to enter a room and make it worse than before I came in exactly and I can attest that you are not a moody person and I feel like you know what tap into the people who you can really like if you need to like go off really quickly and just like be like I have to complain about this thing I have to vent and then you have to compose yourself and then get back to the task at hand yeah which is what adults do it's what adults do we don't have a tantrum in the middle of the grocery store Wally on set of overcompensating was really good for me she was like lunchtime is for naps babe go take a nap go take a rest you're talking all day yeah you're having to like be everything to everyone conserve your yeah if also if you're moody all the time something's off so we got to figure that out nothing pisses me off it's very unbecoming of a lady well of course and it's kind of never really a lady yeah it's kind of always a straight man doing a front-facing comedy video I die the most though but you want to talk about something I die for Tesla's and if you have one I I it's it's not judgment-based I just when I get an uber and the Tesla pulls up I think to myself wow someone up there really hates my guts huh well it's homophobia well it's homophobia at its core and the way that it feels to ride in the Tesla I get nauseous in cars this is different this is chemical well it's like you're on a gyroscope do you know those things where it like shakes you around totally it's like you know how amusement parks now it's all like 3D and it's just a screen in front of you to make you as sick as possible totally that's kind of the vibe and I will be in the back of it well first off I you know I have to play with the clit of course to get in it which I just can't oh and do you know how many different handles they have for Tesla's now because sometimes the different generations of Teslas will be different handles I didn't tell you what happened to me recently what oh my god Terry and I almost didn't get out of this Tesla Uber we could we oh my god so we were in New Orleans and we got a Tesla and it had butterfly doors how asinine is that so it drops us off on Bourbon Street and the butterfly doors came up and two gay guys walk everyone on the street was that they were sick. It's garish. It was garish. I felt so embarrassed. There was like purple lights coming out of it. I just I wanted to die in that moment. What they're doing with doors over there. I can't even and I'm not even going to talk about him. All I want to say, lowercase H.I.M. All I want to say is that Elon Musk was not a founder of Tesla. He was appointed CEO. He had nothing to do with the actual creation of it, if I'm not mistaken. And you can fact check me. And he is the CEO right now. The stock is tanking. By the way, if you have Tesla stock, sell it. Go protest at a Tesla. There is a fascist dictator. All of his worth, a lot of it is tied up in Tesla and it's plummeting. Sales are plummeting. Oh, my God. I saw the most fabulous thing. People are rebranding their Teslas. They are putting Audi logos on it. They're putting Mazda logos on it. They're putting Toyota logos. They do not want to be driving Teslas. They want to make art and they want to make trouble. That is so cool. It's very Cruella coded. It's very Cruella. Taking a little like paint chipper and taking off the Tesla. Yeah. So what we're doing is working and it is going to impact his wealth directly. And I hate the screens just which feels very tied to what you just said. The moonroof. First of all, there's an iPad in the car. I don't want an iPad. It's distracting. It's a laptop. It's a 16 inch. The moonroof pinky. Whenever in an Uber, in a Tesla Uber, she'll look up at the moonroof and think it's another dog because she can see her reflection and she starts barking. She knows there's dark energy in that car. Consciousness. It's her consciousness. So these cars suck so much dick and I hate them. Like I really hate these cars. I hate being in them. I hate hearing about what they do. I hate opening the door of them. Yeah. Every aspect of the experience is just worse than any other car. It's awful. And whoever tricked everyone into thinking they're better for the environment, aren't they not? Well, so electric batteries are really they're impossible to recycle. Yes. So electric batteries are really impossible to recycle. So electric cars like getting less reliant on gas is a good thing because it's the gas will run out. It's a finite resource. But yes, they have not quite figured out how to make these like actual sustainable vehicles. And might I just get into the cyber truck? When I see people walk out of a cyber truck, I'm like, you're about to meet floor. Yeah. I can't stress enough. I never see people coming out of them. I only see them parked like around town. And I'm just like, you're disgusting. That conspiracy theory. Like, I don't know if anyone's self-driving. You know, the conspiracy theory. I don't know if anyone's self-driving. theory that we predicted. Yeah, there was a prophecy that was foretold. And so a cyber truck did explode with a veteran inside of it. And so, yeah, that's hard. It's hard right now that that happened. I know. It's insane. Yeah. We live in the strangest. Well, I say that I'm sure that every time felt strange, but this one is really fucking bizarre. Yeah. Well, here's what's weird to me. This I got to hear. So in school, I feel like we were taught and told that being a Nazi is like the worst thing in the world. And I'm like, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't a person can be. And I agree with that to this day. Yeah. I don't understand the reboot. They're rebooting the Nazis. Like, why are we doing that? Because these people that are obsessed with American nationalism and how like we like, you know, swooped in during World War Two and like saved Europe. I'm like, do you realize who we were fighting? It's the people you're now emulating. Yeah. So I don't understand your your whole ethos makes no sense. It's completely contradictory. It's people who feel small and they're like, these women won't fuck me. Small little men with polio and measles and measles. Disgusting. Yeah. Disgusting. So I will say I feel bad for people that bought Teslas thinking they were doing good. And I have family who have Teslas and I feel so bad because I'm like and they know and they're like, I'm trying to get rid of this heap of shit. Yeah. And you know who did? Cheryl fucking Crow. And she donated the money to NPR. God, I wish I could kiss that woman. She has been on the right side of history for so fucking long. Toilet paper. How many squares? Four squares per bathroom trip. And that will save the planet. That alone will save the planet. You're going to need to wash your hands after that one. Yeah. Can I just say maybe eight? I love you, sister. Here's my thing. Fuck Teslas. But if you have one, I'm not mad. Just to be clear, I just like unless you support the. Well, of course, then I'm furious and you shouldn't be listening. I want to take a bat to me. Hey, my linebacker shoulders, a bat and a cyber truck. Yeah. Has anything ever sounded hornier to you? I'd watch that. Me, Grandpa Terry taking a bat to that thing. I'll record it. I'll film. I know it's really hard because it just feels like a reminder, a constant reminder of what's going on. And I also just want to say this about Teslas. It's not a smooth drive. No. That's my thing, too. It's like it's not even a fucking good car. It's jerky. It's jerky. And that's oh my God. And if you're with a driver who who loves the brake. Oh my God. You better you better have your ginger chew ready to go the second you step out of that. It's it's it's. Well, if you can get out of it, you need your sea legs because you are going to get nauseous and you're going to want to throw up. And, you know, I don't have my sea legs. I know you don't. I need Ramamine from Cabo San Lucas. You're from landlocked Idaho. Well, of course. I hate Tesla so much. Jackson, you don't drive one, do you? No, I'm an Audi boy. Thank God. Audi's are the death of me. Me, too. I might ride for Audi at some point. Whoa. I would love that. I love them. My dream car when I was 14. Audi TT. Are you serious? Yeah. Silver Audi TT. Mine was a PT Cruiser. Oh, so you came out in high school. PT Cruiser. I also wanted a Kia Soul for a sec. Yeah. And why the hell not? Well, good marketing works on me. As long as it's not a Tesla. The hamsters in the car. Very. Oh, yeah. I know she doesn't drive a Tesla. Absolutely not. Not a chance. Thank you so much for your love on. This is how we do. This episode is brought to you by NoCD. I will be dying for the wedding industrial complex, so I don't even have that much to say about this because I feel like we've covered it a lot already. Well, dear, you know I've said, I have spoken my piece on this. We have. We've spoken on it, and I just think weddings are a celebration of love. They're a celebration. They're a celebration of life and togetherness and joining people in a union. And it's like amazing that we, that we even like are vulnerable enough to allow ourselves to fall in love when there's like so much risk associated with that. And I just feel like sometimes with weddings, it's like focusing on the wrong things. And it makes the celebration something that the people who have to go to the wedding ultimately resent, which is not fun. Yeah. And I think it's just like with social media and like, I just think people feel, Social media ruined weddings. So I do. So social media, that's maybe the thesis of this argument is that social media ruined weddings because I think it's more about like sometimes the photo opportunities or like content capture. I was your TA just now. We were at a meeting and I was your TA and I go, here's your thesis. It's about posting. It's about photos. It's about content capture. I don't think that's like what weddings really are about for me personally. I completely agree. I think the more I see all of it, the more I'm like, okay, I do think that the bubble is about to burst. And here's my thing. I think like, obviously do whatever you want with it. Rarely do I have people who tell me I'm so excited to go to this wedding. And that's where I'm like, I feel like these used to really slap. Yeah. Because it used to be one thing and it would be the ceremony, the reception. And then I'm just watching everybody get so wrapped up in so many things. And honestly, I think it's a lot of people who really just love event planning and they find that they love that. Like my sister, I think in the process was kind of like, fuck, I really like, I ride for this shit. Yeah. I think that's so fun. I feel like, I mean, I loved my sister's wedding. It really was just like a wedding and a reception and then like a cute little, like if you're around, have like a little snacky before you leave, which was very cute. I think that there's so much pressure on it to the point where I'm like, how could the two people getting married have any fucking fun at this? Are they not just the most stressed people on earth? There's so much pressure. And it's so expensive. It's so expensive. And for guests, it's so expensive. And for guests with kids, that's a whole other thing. So it's the engagement. This is, this is like maximum impact wedding edition. It's the engagement party. Of course. Bridal shower. Destination bachelorette. Welcome dinner. This is what I said when I said I've seen the world done it all. Wedding and then reception and then the brunch the next day. Like you said, are they even enjoying themselves at the function? But I think you can really tell when a wedding is like coming from a good place. Does that make sense? Agreed. I can tell when it's like, no, and here I go again. The big Vermont wedding. Liv, I know you're listening, love. But Liv and Matt's wedding, it was just like Vermont and like she only had two costume changes and that's so fair because she wanted to like dance more in her dress. But like she wore her dress for most of the reception and that's kind of my rule. If you're spending most of your reception changing, that to me is sad. I'm like, because you're not with the people. And you know, you have other events where you can wear like cute little white dresses, but you bought that wedding dress. Like wear that shit. Like our moms wore that shit. It's probably the most expensive thing many of us will ever buy. Absolutely. Absolutely. So I'm like, wear it. I mean, God knows I'll probably change a couple times. But I'm like, I just don't want that to be the whole thing. It's like, there's his new outfit. Remember the psychotic email sent by a bride to her bridesmaids that went viral? Oh, yeah, yeah. That girl is from my neighborhood. So just keep that in mind. Okay. And you were a bridesmaid. And I was a bridesmaid. Yeah. 27 dresses. That just hit me like a ton of bricks. I just think be mindful and like ask yourself, check in with yourself on like what is the motivation for the thing. And then if it feels true to you and if you're like a totally lavish over the top person, and your wedding reflects that, like, wonderful. I think that's amazing. And also, I'm really scared that they are going to overturn gay marriage. And so I'm scared about that. Yeah. And I just think. Oh, is that too political? I'm looking right down the barrel of the camera right now. Dear media, clip this. Here's what I want this dye to allow people to do. I'm giving you permission to have the wedding of your dreams. Not what you think you need to plan. Exactly. Not a spectacle. It's the wedding of your dreams. And you don't let anyone. You don't let your fiancé's mom dictate it. You don't let your grandma dictate it. You. It's your wedding. It's supposed to be your favorite day. Ever. Like, I was talking to a friend and she was like, I literally just want to get married in Vegas. And I was like, well, then you should if that's what you want. And I think, again, it is because of social media, of like. And capitalism. No, I have to do. Yeah. And I have to do this whole thing. And like, even Terry and I have kind of like. Some people have been like, your wedding's going to be crazy. And I'm like, I just don't think it is. I want Terry to. Like, to do the flowers. And you're not going to have a step and repeat with like a vodka brand on it. No. And I don't want cameras. Like, I really don't. I'm like, I. You know, I grew up with them. I. The cameras are in my face all day. I mean, look at me with this pod. There's three big old cannons looking at me right now. I watch people absolutely spin out over this. And I'm like, please don't. We're giving you permission right now. If you just need two of your girlies to say, you don't have to do all that. Do exactly what you want to do. Don't feel pressured to, you know, just. Oh my God, there's so much. I do think it's funny that because we're in our 30s now, it's like weddings are where people go to like do hard drugs. And I just think it's funny. It's like, it becomes a music festival in that moment. I've been to so many weddings where they're like, here's acid spray. And I'm like, whoa, I'm tripping acid at this? But that's kind of cool. I like it. No, I know. You're a little nasty girl. Well, because I'm not doing drugs much anymore. But at a wedding, I'll make an exception usually. It's fun. I'm having fun. You'll do G at a wedding. I'll do G at a wedding. I don't do G except for at weddings. You know what you are, Benny? Hmm, I f*** it. Your words, not mine. Babe, you're my ride or die. Ride or die. So to get into ride or die, I think we can both confidently say that we die for Tesla's and we die for the Wedding Industrial Complex. I guess the flip here would have been like, do you ride for it? Good call. We're subverting the form. Yeah. So this would be, I really, I die for the Wedding Industrial Complex. I think it's created so much anxiety. I guess it maybe has created jobs, but I also feel like they're exploitative at times. I think this is what's beautiful. If you go to a place and it's like a destination and you do all local artisans, that's fabulous. I think that's great. Bringing in like some insane cake, you know what pisses me off? When the cake's not real. That's insane. I've never, I've never heard of that. Styrofoam. Just for optics? Just for the aesthetic? For the size. That's so weird. It's all smoke and mirrors. Jackson left again I know he's gone. He actually left the building. He went for his new nut. He didn't just leave the room. He left the building. It's schooner time. It's schooner time. It's schooner time. Well, happy Ride Heritage Month. To Monica Barberito. To Monica Barberito. To Monica Barberito only. So you're not going to die for Teslas? Oh, I died for Teslas. I mean, I think I died for Teslas before all this shit started. Like I just thought that the cars were very like nausea inducing and I don't like this, the aesthetic. A cyber truck to me is like, that is an assault on the senses. You know what I want? It's like, be a car. I don't want to, I don't want to ride around in an iPad. Let cars be cars. Let cars be cars, woke mob. Let cars be cars. My God. Please. It's like one big iPad. It's one big like, TV that's playing a fireplace on it. Yeah. It's one big, it's one big Yule log and that's not okay. Oh, knock it off. You're going to talk about Yule logs during Heritage? I'm just saying, be what you are. My darling love. In many ways, both of our dogs are be what you are. What do you think they're going to think of Grandpa Terry? Here's the thing. If you resisted at first, because a lot of people know this, that I did not understand fight to the good fight for a while. Whoa. You knew that. I was like, I'm not getting this bit. You know how originally, I don't know if we've talked about this, but originally it was like, I said it in such a specific way. I know. And I didn't get the bit. But then the more you did it, I think, oh, I totally get this now. Did I ever say where it came from of what it made me think? I just said that every time a queer person or a woman is on a red carpet, they're asked the most intense question possible. Yeah. And then straight guys are asked like, like, what type of toilet paper do you use? You like titties? You know, they're like, hey, you got a piss man. And we're asked like, what do you think of the political landscape and what's going on right now? It's like, oh, I'm at a lip gloss event. But yeah, I think it's terrible. And now I'm like, I will fight to the good fight. And we will. And we said that. And we do. So we're fighting the good fight to because, the fight has come to us and we've been training. This is your song. me at your wedding and you can tell everybody this is a song I hope you don't mind I hope you don't mind are you actually going to have me perform at your wedding maybe that I put down in a world I want to fly this at Monica Barber Raiders in the world oh my accent Jenny babe eyes on the road there he goes ride please note that this episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services individuals on the show may have a direct or indirect financial interest in products or services referred to in this episode
