Top Prospects to Stash! Thomas White Next Up? (5/20 Fantasy Baseball Podcast)

Let's talk prospects up next on fantasy baseball today express Welcome into fbt express on Wednesday, May 20th. I am freaks. They have both joined by Scott white Let's take a look at the five prospects on the periphery some names that are making some noise as of late We have Theo Gillian with the raise rowdy Rodriguez with the angels Malcolm Moore with the Rangers Axie L. Pauz with the pirates and Jacob Gonzalez with the white socks Scott what is going on with these five While they're all doing really well. Let's start with Theo Gillian who probably had the Best prospect pedigree the bunch coming in But he is turned it up and not cheer this year slashing 333 436 75 at hiay And the thing about Theo Gillian is he's he's always had he's always rated well as a hitter like good hitter-ish qualities somebody who seemed like he'd get on base a ton if for average Question is how much power he'd develop Well, he's sitting for a ton of power this year nine home runs already to go along with 14 steals and stills the great on base ability like the hitter Qualities haven't changed here for Theo Gillian So he's starting to look like the complete package and I think is going to show up very high on prospect lists in the future Rowdy Rodriguez and outfielder for the angels his first name rowdy is spelled R-A-U-D-I and he has been A name that has been mentioned among angels prospects for few to years now But never really produced that much. It's 22 years old now at double A and it's all starting to make sense for rowdy Rod Riegez Has made great strides in terms of how hard he hits the ball the exit velocity readings And also the plate discipline. He's batting 308. He's reaching base at a 440 clip at double A with a near one to one strike out to walk ratio five home runs So kind of modest power there even with the exit velocity improvement But there's enough five home runs for somebody who's disciplined it or and also steals bases 16 steals for rowdy Rod Riegez He could factor into the angels plans sooner than later now these are double A Third up on the list here a mouth of more for the Rangers He hit 195 with a 576 OPS last year 195 five 76 OPS listen to these numbers now He is batting 333 and He is on a run right now at high A Malcolm or eight straight multi hit games with five home runs during that eight game span so Malcolm more probably one of the most improved prospects this year Again to go from 195 with a 576 OPS to 333 with a 10 43 OPS. I mean, he's basically doubling it up and maybe due for a promotion to double A here soon at 22 years old Then we have another catcher Axial applause of the pirates Also at high A also did not hit very well before last year wasn't quite as bad as Malcolm more But he was in the 230's Last year dealt with some injuries always had good exit velocities though last year at high A Axial applause 92 Myelper hour average one for 14 114 mile per hour max as a 19 year old He's 20 now and those exit velocities are turning into production because he is slashing 354 411 598 at high A um And showing off that power Axial applause another catcher prospect to be aware of and then finally On the periphery here number five we have Jacob Gonzalez of the white socks. He's already a triple A so he could get the call As soon as they have a need for him and he is showing power Better than he's ever shown before he just hit his 15th home run already up to 15 at triple A On Tuesday and Also is getting on base a ton So he his max ex of velocity is 113.6 his walk rate is 15.8% And the strikeouts aren't an issue either so I'm a little unsure why Jacob Gonzalez 23 years old a triple A form or first round pick by the way 15th overall on 2023 why he isn't getting more attention But he could play all over the infield white socks don't really have a need there But that could change suddenly good solace with the kind of power he's showing could put himself in that discussion All right, let's take a quick break. He's a returning cold carry of the Rockies Yeah, not much has changed over the last week cold carer's numbers especially the batting average and the stolen base total Are still incredible I could give them to you real quick here. He is batting cold carry 355 with 26 steals and 9.5 triples for home runs So not like a bunch of pure power But that extra base power that you would think would play especially well with those and a huge outfield in Colorado Been playing shortstop some this year especially recently to go along with centerfield So the Rockies may be gearing up to call up cold carry soon And who's next number four on this list. Kaelin cold pepper of the twins Got a little bit more interesting when Royce Lewis was optioned down on Tuesday Yes, it is because cold pepper primarily a shortstop But he's played some second base and played some third base And he was great last year for the the twins Spent most of that his time at double a but had a 20-homer 25 steel season for them while batting 289 And he got off to a slow start at triple a this year Maybe looked like he'd overachieved last year but he's picked it up again in May has Kaelin cold pepper batting 281 reaching at a 417 clip 988 OPS in May Four home runs four steels showing that all around skill set that Pushed him up the prospect rankings last year and again as you say now as a triple A now he's hot And they just sent their third basement down. So could Kaelin cold pepper get the call soon That's why I'm listing him here Number three is new Elvymarté with the red Scott. I'm starting to think he might just be on this list forever And he's not truly a prospect which makes it more embarrassing but He's just killing it a triple A he kind of maybe was showing signs of cooling down a week ago and it's like okay maybe Maybe you get why the reds haven't called him up yet, but he's he's surging again. He has now Three straight games with multiple hits And note today right down the right number there. No Elvymarté. I'm sorry. Let me say that again Four straight games with multiple hits for no Elvymarté bringing his bat average back up to 391 And in three of those four games he has a home run. So the power is there he continues to sustain a ridiculous batting average He started seven straight games in center field Which he is either to give him more looks in the outfield or to give him better looks No slicing not as much slicing in center as in right left But you know look at the reds health field. They got two outfielders batting under 200 I think if no Elvymarté keeps this up much longer. He's got to get another look Number two on this list is Cade Anderson of the Mariners. He has just destroyed the minors all season He did finally have a bat start his last start friday give a five earn runs at four innings But the overall numbers are phenomenal. He's already doing it at double a I don't know exactly when the Mariners are going to need him They have an overload of rotation as it is Bryce Miller just through great start Tuesday but with pictures you never know and I think Cade Anderson is At least going to put himself in the discussion sooner or later in the same way chase burns did In his debut season as in debuting in the minors Also turned out to be debuting in the majors in the same season I think Andrews and could do the same thing and the number one prospect on the verge right now is Thomas White of the marlins a new addition Because Braxton Garrett got optioned here on Tuesday Yeah, so this choice to put Thomas White at the top It's gonna look either very good or very bad. He did get scratched from his outing Tuesday For precautionary reasons is what they called it but you know widely speculated that they could have scratched him so and an anticipation of him taking Braxton Garrett's spot next time through. It's not clear who would fill that spot otherwise. It's also not clear that Tom is white as ready. His numbers of AAA this year are pretty bad. He has yet to go five innings even a single time down there because he's struggled so much with walks and efficiency. Great stuff from the left-hander, fastball, slider, combination, dominant. So dominant in fact that last year in the minors he had a 19% swing strike rate which is just historically good. But it does seem like he's a work in the progress with the control there. And so maybe he got scratched for some other reason. We'll come to find out. But the smoke is billowing enough that I think you have to take a shot on rostering white just in case he does get the call. And just in case he gets to the majors and it all clicks for him. Maybe he was working on stuff at AAA that we don't have insight into. And so the Marlins are convinced he's ready despite what the numbers show. It could be the upside is enough that I think you take a shot on white. Thomas White.
