Toosii: Why You Have to Be "Delusional" to Succeed + Acting in POWER? Ep. 85 | The Crew Has It

The conversation blends personal stories and values across different domains. Edward Jones redefines wealth not as material accumulation but as protecting what gives life meaning, emphasizing personalized financial guidance. Firestone reinforces its legacy through reliability and trust. A rapper shares his journey from early rapping in Syracuse to breakthrough success, highlighting how self-belief and authenticity shaped his path. He reflects on how fame and online culture create pressure, often leading to superficial relationships, and stresses the importance of grounded, real-life connections. He values honesty, personal responsibility, and maintaining a normal lifestyle with loved ones, especially as a father. His experience with a car incident and a son’s safety influenced a shift toward cautious, responsible driving. Financial tools like Rocket Money are mentioned as essential for managing expenses and building financial clarity. The discussion concludes with themes of vulnerability, personal growth, and authenticity—showing how individuals navigate fame, relationships, and life choices with integrity and self-awareness.

Man, I'm getting money. You know what I'm saying? I got a big record. I got a song with Summer Walker out. I'm that guy now in the city. So you're like, come here. I'm like, yeah, come on, stop playing. Like, all this playing. Yeah, I know you want to be cool. Yeah, we're not even going to do all this playing. Yeah, ain't no way she's saying no now. The last ones at the airport buying breakfast. Day one, day one. I've seen you on some pods. Yeah. Bro, you're fucking funny, bro. Yeah. I do watch you. I've been on a few. I'm like, I like his fucking sit-down. Yeah, I got a little bit of personality, man. Bro, sometimes rappers just like, no shade to them, but I don't know. Nah, they be fried. Bro, fried. But I don't know if it's like an ego thing. They be fried. Or like, do they want to seem cool? Are they actually like that? What do you think about that? I think it's just like, I think it's a rap stereotype, bro. I think, I don't know, bro. I feel like it's just like an image you got to uphold. It's so weird. Do you feel like you got to do that or not? No, because I'm like. I'm not like really like a rapper. I'm more so like a like. I'm a artist, bro. Yeah. I'm for the ladies. Yeah. So like, I ain't got no image to uphold. Do you like your lane that you're in? Yeah. Yeah. You have a fire lane. I think anybody would, bro. Yeah. Yeah, I think anybody would. I think my lane is like the goal for like a lot of rappers. Like, I feel like a lot of rappers wish they could have like a female fan base. Yeah, bro. But I'm not going to lie. I'm a big fan. I love your music. I've been listening, you know, seven years now. At this point, like, I've been locked in for a while. Like, Mike knows, like, I'll play it in my dressing room. Like, I don't know. It's just like vibey, bro. Like, I like the vibe. And I appreciate it. And now when I see your interviews, kind of, I'm like, oh, he's fucking funny. Sometimes for me, I don't know if Mike, if you feel the same way, but like, sometimes when you're listening to an artist and then sometimes they do something goofy or whatever, or you see that you don't like them as a person as much, sometimes it ruins them. Yeah, for sure. It does. Do you feel that way? No, no, no. It definitely will. Like, I ain't gonna lie, bro. I know, like, I've done. I mean, I think that's just what comes with being a celebrity. Like, you do certain things in your career that causes people to look at you like, okay, either they love you or hate you. There's no in between. But that's the, you know, the mastery to being like a celebrity. Like, you got to let the people either love or hate you. It can't be an in between. Have you had any hate moments? Oh, for sure. Really? Why have I? Crazy ones? Crazy, bro. Like, what? If you don't want to talk about it, we don't have to. No, no, no. You know what's crazy, though? Like, I think the thing is, it's like, it's more visible and it's always more visible in our eyes. Yeah, of course. Like, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, you're like, how have you not heard of this? Yeah, I'm like, bro, what you mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, like, the thing is, like, I've never seen anybody hate on you online. Like, I ain't never seen nobody hate on Mike online. Yeah, it's crazy because we, like, even something happened, like, a couple months ago on the pod where some people have hated, like. You feel me, though, bro? Yeah, it's funny. Like, I just, I don't see it because, so I think it's, I think that's another thing, too, though. Like, with being a celebrity, I realize, like, the world don't revolve around me. Yeah, that's funny. But in your own mind, like, if you don't, I don't know, I feel like to even be a celebrity, like, to be a rapper or an artist or an actor, you have to, at some capacity, think the world revolves around you. For sure. To even pursue it. I was just going to be doing some stupid shit. Right. And you're going to be like, I mean, the world don't care about it, so, like. Right. That's a great way to put it. Like, why am I going to make this album? No one's going to give a shit about it. Right. That's actually a great way to put it. Right. Why am I going to audition for this movie? There's no way they're going to pick me. Yeah, it's not like, yeah, right. Exactly. Yeah, you can't think like that. You kind of, at some point, got to be delusional or self-centered to a certain point. I ain't going to lie. Yeah, I think that's the, like, key factor in, like, changing your life. Yeah, of course. Like, becoming, like, a risk taker. Like, the key factor in becoming a risk taker is, like, all right, cool. Like, I've got to be delusional. Delusional. Like, you got to just believe to, like, to no end. Like, yeah, you got to be delusional to do any point of this. Do you believe in, like. Being delusional to a certain extent is healthy for you. Of course. Facts. Of course. So, you're from Syracuse? Yeah, originally from Syracuse, yeah. Did you grow up there? Grew up there for, like, 13 years of my life, and then I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Okay, fire. And then, so you started doing. You started doing music in Raleigh. Yeah. Well, actually, I was doing. I wasn't doing music, but I was rapping when I was in Syracuse. Fire. Yeah, I started young. At that young, 13 is crazy. My dad used to rap, so, like, he used to have a studio and all that type of stuff. So, yeah, I always wanted to be like my dad. Yeah, and so then when he saw you blow up, was he like, this is crazy, or what was it? Yeah, but I think I always, like, I always had that it factor about me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, I think people always kind of knew, like, I was going to be something in life. Yeah. Did you know? Yeah, I just always, like, like, growing up, I just always used to feel like, I don't know, like, it's something different about me than other, everybody else. Like, I used to feel like. Yeah. Like, I felt like the world revolved around me, but I didn't feel like. You know what I was, like, everything else felt fake. Dude, you know what's funny is I feel that same way. It's not like, it's not like I want the world to revolve around me, or I feel more important than anything or that. Yeah. It just feels like, like, this is all meant to happen. Right. And, and, and, um, I was put on this earth to do this. To do this. And it was always going to work out. Like, it feels like everybody else is, like, a part of your story. Yes, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel that same way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then I weirdly feel like, like, even coming in contact with you, like, I feel like that's part of my story, too. For sure. It's like, it's like linking up and meeting with that person. No, for sure. And this was always meant to happen. And then something else is going to happen. Yeah. Like, yeah, it's just part of the story. Yeah. Oh, that's interesting. I, I, I like what. Mike, do you, have you ever felt like that? Or, um, does that, like, speak to you? Yeah. Cause, like, bro, like, look at, look at how, like, my career started, bro. Like, it's mad random. You feel me? Like. Yeah. I never even really, like, like, obviously, I, when I was little, I wanted to be an actor. Like, I was, I was see shit and be like, damn, it'll be fire. But, like, the way it happened for me, like, I never really pursued it, pursued it until it started happening. And then I'm like, okay, like, I like this. Like, this is really something I want to do. And then I just started pursuing it and everything. Tell, tell, tell him quick on how you. I was going to say, how your career started. Yeah. Uh, to make it, like, cause I don't want to make it a long ass story, but to be honest, I just literally was in a music video. Well, I got scouted by a lady named Gina. She was a kid's talent agency at the time. She just. You were on a train, right? Yeah. Well, we were somewhere. Yeah. We were somewhere in the city. Like, we had just gotten off the train. We were somewhere in the city in New York. And then a lady came up to my mom. She was like, yeah, does your son act or does he model anything? Like, he has the face for it. And then, um, they ended up chopping it up for a little bit. And then. Fast forward, probably like a, like a few months, like a month or two. They got me an audition for this music video, uh, for an Italian singer. And then the Italian singer, he was like huge in Italy. So the music video was going crazy. And at the time, uh, this Italian director, he was writing a movie. And, um, he saw the music video and somehow got in contact with my mom. I was like, yo, I'm right. I'm making a movie. And I seen your son in this music video. I need him to be in the movie. Like he'll be perfect for the role. And then, um, that's basically how like everything started. I did that movie. Came back to America. I lived in Italy for like a year and a half. Probably after that. Yeah. After that year, like a year after that movie, that's when I did my first movie in America. And then I got my agent and then everything just started like rolling from there. What was your first movie in America? Um, it's called Love. I was in it with Common. And, um, yeah, I was like 12, bro. Filmed that shit in like three weeks. It was crazy, bro. And then from there it was, it was, it was just gone. Yeah. You know what's interesting? Is I'm always trying to like, think about the recipe for success because to get to the next level or to, or to do the next thing you're like, well, how did I get this thing? Right. But it's funny. Cause like a lot of people have similar, similar, but different stories. But that's so interesting that you say that. Cause I've always felt that. Right. Right. Right. It's really cool to like, to like hear that out loud. So, so you moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. When do you feel like you start getting like, maybe you've always felt like, cause it's funny, even when I was poor and broke, like I felt like I had motion sickness. But I was like working at a restaurant. So when do you feel like other people started to, to, you know, take notice or you were blown away? Um, I think, man, like, so like people don't know. I started off dancing. Like, wow. Oh shit. But like, I wasn't like, I wasn't like a full on like dancer. Like I wasn't Chris Brown. Yeah. I'm not that good. i'm not that good but like i was i was just like i was doing the same thing that like all the other kids online was doing like i was hitting them folks nay nay yeah you know what i'm saying like all of the like trendy dances that was coming out like i was one of those kids that like used to that was the time not effects like so i was one of those i was one of those kids like you know who who was in that algorithm and then um but i was i i always used to like rap though and and the world didn't know that but everybody in school would know like so um i was i think maybe like 15 16 i joined a group called vests out of raleigh north carolina and i was like the youngest member and my sister ex-boyfriend he took me to the studio and uh i made my first song and and i started performing at these like little clubs and bars in uh north carolina and i wasn't even old enough to get into the clubs and bars like they're just letting me perform it's crazy yeah so uh next thing i know like i kind of like i i started blowing up inside of the city yeah i feel like it's always that like i started blowing up inside of the city getting some notoriety my following start going up a little bit like and then uh man like next thing i know i caught a record that kind of like blew up in my city it was called karma and then after that record um i signed to a like smaller record label called south south coast music group yeah um which has like me the baby you know what i'm saying like some some some other artists that the world may know um and when i signed to that label then that's like when things kind of like started to take off because this was around the time when like the baby first started blowing up yeah yeah so like at this time now i'm like 17 18 years old the baby on fire right now like you know what i'm saying he got bop he's shooting all these crazy music videos the the junk in new york that where he had where it looked like broadway theme yeah yeah yeah you know what i'm saying like yeah he had the world on smash so like i kind of like i started learning a lot and then uh from there i caught a record named love cycle at edward jones we believe rich is about taking care of what gives your life meaning that's why your financial advisor personalizes your plan to help you preserve your progress and create something that lasts let's find your rich edward jones member sipc just took off hell yeah were you locked in with the baby then or did you guys not really know each other well oh crazy part like and i think i could tell this now he might say different yo no no no for real i swear they used to hate me what the baby's team bro yeah like bro him bro they got they gonna tell you different i swear the baby stunted for vegas yo they used to hate me why bro cuz i was like the new kid to the label like they they had they they on top of the world but look though like they'll tell you though like i never asked for nothing like i never asked for no handouts i never like i was a kid who like i did my own thing i don't want nothing from y'all like i'm gonna be a star one day like you know what i'm saying and i already knew that because you think like that so this might be an intricate question but bear with me because you think like that because i do this too where i'm like that that person don't like me yeah and then it be just is in my head and i'm like this person no i ain't gonna lie that was not in my head but but but do you ever feel like like sometimes i'm like oh this like me and then it snowballs in your head and you're like ah this person hates me do you feel like like it was in your head a little bit or are you just straight up was like bro they they just nah they was not with me bro and what was the change when did it switch bro like i just was doing my own thing like i didn't care like you know what i'm saying like it was kind of like a thing where like i and i wouldn't say like they they didn't with me i think it was more so like a thing like it was like okay cool like man this is the new kid to the label he probably another artist yeah yeah yeah you know what i'm saying whole time like they didn't know like i was gonna become like to see yeah but you earned your respect and like yeah sometimes that's what it is too bro it's like why are they gonna nah like i and i think i earned their respect yeah like like and like from there like we just built like a close bond like i think man i think bro i salute baby bro like dude he's a man he's a hard-working dude yeah hard-working dude like no matter uh the adversity that he go through no matter what it is bro he just gonna he gonna fight and he gonna work yeah he's a superstar and he's always bro he's always been so nice to me he's been the best yeah for sure he's just like a great guy to be honest so i i love locking with in with him every time like we'd be outside super bowl anything yeah yeah for sure for sure um so obviously i love like i love even you in person like your vibe everything how do you feel like and it feels like you're handling it well like when fame first started happening how did you feel like you handled did you struggle with it at all yeah i definitely struggled in the beginning and the is because like i felt like uh i felt like the world was like my friend you know what i'm saying like you know when i when i became a celebrity like i felt like i felt like the fans were my friends yeah you know what i'm saying so i used to i used to let them in on certain things that i probably shouldn't have let them in on and what it what it did was it kind of that's probably a big part of why like you grew you grew so much too yeah yeah like feeling connected to an artist you know what i'm saying yeah so like that was a different feeling yeah that was a big part of it like i felt like i felt like in the beginning um i felt like in the beginning fans felt like okay i could connect with him like you know what i'm saying i could relate to what he got going on but then like it was certain things that i just started letting them in on where it gave like room to judge me yeah you know what i'm saying and it's like i might be i might do the same thing that the next person does right you know what i'm saying but the difference is like okay you're to see like right in our eyes i love you because of this right so when when you let me in on certain things that like it's like you're supposed to be like superman yeah i agree like yeah i feel like i feel like oftentimes like you know what i'm saying like i just let people win on certain things that i shouldn't so yeah sometimes because sometimes people will feel some type of way like they'll watch power they'll watch something that we do or the podcast to get away from the problems they're like why are you talking about yeah why are you talking about the problems yeah i'm trying to get away from them but you also make music that speaks to a lot of people right so that's the thing like so my thing yeah it was kind of like it was a little bit of confusion for me because it was like okay cool like um like this this is like the disconnect but but the thing is like i'm a vulnerable artist yeah like when i'm vulnerable in person you can't fault me for that because my music is vulnerable yeah you know what i'm saying so yeah that's it was it was kind of like stuck stuck between a rock and a hard place what up guys we're going to take a quick break from the episode and we're going to talk to you about our friends at fume fume is a Make sure you say that the boys sent you. Back to the episode. So you have a kid, right? I got two kids. Oh, wow. Hell yeah. And are you still with the girl? Are you kind of doing your own thing? No, no, no, no, no. Still together. Oh, you guys have been together the whole time, everything? I think, bro, so this is my thing with the relationship thing. And that's another part that I kind of learned that I wish that I didn't let people in so much on that part of my life. You know, because it's so personal. Yeah, they want to judge you. Yeah. Yeah, it's so personal. And then everybody got so many opinions about how you should have did this or should have done that. What you should have did, this, this, that, and the third. So like, I ain't gonna lie, bro. I think like when it comes to that side of things, it's like, I just kind of try to like separate the two. It's so deep, bro. And it's like, especially in today's time, like the internet, bro, like the internet ruins relationships. And it's not intentionally. It's just like, even if nobody says anything about what you have going on, like people see certain things, like I may see certain things. She may see certain things like, bro, it's just the internet. I think it's hard to be in a relationship too. Cause the internet, cause are you like in DMS and scrolling and looking for not even, not even that. It's I think, I think it's more so, I think it's, I think it's more so like, all right. So say if you were average guy out here and you date an average girl and an average girl and an average guy scrolling online and they seeing these celebrity lifestyles and the life that they live in, seeing a fast cars, the nice jewelry, you see girls out here getting the, getting the purses and getting all of the flowers and this, like it make it hard for an average guy. Like, and even not only just making it hard for an average guy, like when you a celebrity, like it make it hard for like some of us guys that's like regular and want like regular love. Right. Right. And make it hard for us. Cause it's like, okay, cool. Like, you know, like your peers are doing X, Y, and Z. Right. Like, and I ain't saying this is what I go through, but like, you know, I could, I could, I could see like, uh, the next relationship probably like going through things like that. It's just, it's a lot to gauge off of the internet. Yeah. And it's even girls posting like purses and this and that, then this girl, maybe she didn't even want that shit or is it even like, she wasn't even into it at all. And then she feels as if, you know what I'm saying? Like, so, I mean, and then even for guys, like, you know what I'm saying? A guy may look at a girl that's online and be like, oh, you know what I'm saying? Like, well, this girl is doing this, this, that, and the third for her man. And that, and that. So like, I think the internet just like, it's a hard place, bro. I think, I think it's best for like people to just like keep things private. What's your type of girl that you like? My fiance. Like, like, like, like style of girl. Like, like, do you, you like a normal girl? A regular girl. Um, I'm not into the whole celebrity thing. Yeah. I mean, even before I like got with my fiance, like, I've never been with a celebrity before. Like, never like tried to talk to her. Nothing even like when you first blew up, you wasn't like, oh, maybe. Nah, bro. Because like, I just like, I like a girl who, who, who, who wake up and just focus on life. Like, forget all the other stuff. Forget social media. Forget like, like what's your parents like? Yeah. Like, what's your parents like? Yeah. What's your, what's your relationship? What's your mom, your dad? What's your relationship with your brothers, sisters? Like, do you got aunts, uncles? Do your dad cook on the grill? Like, you feel what I'm saying? Like, we went to high school together. Wow. That's crazy. Bro, I'm a regular guy, bro. Like, I'm probably, no lie, bro. I kid you not. I'm probably like one of the most regular like celebrities you'll ever meet. Yeah, dude. That's fucking awesome. Wait, so did you date in high school? No, bro. She had a, she had a boyfriend and I was just waiting. Facts, bro. Bro, you ain't never, bro, you, have you never like, you ever like met a girl and you were like, bro, like one day you gonna be like. It's all I've ever done. Yeah, like one day you gonna be mine. I was, yeah, that was me, bro. Yeah. I had a girlfriend too though. Yeah. Yeah. But you knew. But I knew. I was like. Yeah. You knew that, that, that had an expiration date on it. I ain't gonna lie. Yeah, because no, no, no. I ain't gonna lie. My first relationship, I, my first, she was doing me bad. Yo, she was doing me bad. Bro, cause I think it was just. She was young. Like. Yeah. Yo, she, yo, I'm gonna tell you something so crazy. So my first relationship, she, um, she had a celebrity crush. Uh-huh. Her celebrity crush was NBA Youngboy. Oh, man. Oh, man. Crazy, bro. I just got off tour with NBA Youngboy. Oh, no. So listen, bro, no, this is crazy. Like, so I'm like, in my head, I'm, I'm already thinking and knowing like, bro, I'm going to be a celebrity one day. Yeah, yeah. And like, I'm trying to explain to her, like, yo, I'm gonna be a celebrity one day. Like. Yeah. You know, you can't have like, celebrity crushes. Like, I'm gonna be sitting next to these people one day. Dude, I know. How am I supposed to explain to a man like, yo, my girl got a crush on you. You think she could, uh, take a picture with you? Like, what the hell? Like, these is my peers. Like, you feel me? Bro, on the rap game, man, man, nigga, take your girl down. Like, man, bro. So, you feel what I'm saying? So like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm young at that time. I'm probably like 15, 16. I'm like, bro, this girl breaking my heart. Like. Yeah. I know this thing gonna end. Like, I'm like, one day, this girl gonna break up with her, man. And then she gonna be mine. And like, one day, like, it actually happened. And like, I had hit her friend up. And I was like, yo, like, what's up? Because I was friends with her friend. I'm like, yo, what's up? Like, we all went to school together. I'm friends with her friend.
