Donald Trump may be satisfied with his little temper tantrum this morning, but he's already lost. Donald Trump has already lost his war on the free press because he's humiliated himself. He showed us just how weak he is, how scared he is, and now that's become the story. The story that Donald Trump is always terrified of us talking about in the wake of him kicking out CNN, MSNBC, and Politico. In the White House press corps, the story is Donald Trump's weakness, and for the longest time, I have been begging members of the press to actually start asking Donald Trump questions, to actually start asking him follow-ups, to take a combative stance in the press gougles and the oval office on the tarmacs, wherever it may be. It's going to happen, and it's happening already. The response that Donald Trump has gotten to this attack on the First Amendment proves to me that he has already lost this fight because if it was just about protecting his image, he has only made it worse. You are weak, you are pathetic, you are scared, you are sad. And that is what Donald Trump doesn't want to be. He's a strong man, wannabe, that's why he's kicking the press out because he's a wannabe strong man. But what he reveals in this moment is his weakness, how terrified he is, and it lights the fire that we needed on the ass of journalists to actually start talking about this. Donald Trump has already lost his war on the media, and it may require independent media to keep on pushing to make sure the rest of the mainstream press actually does their job, but I can promise you he lost. I want to get through all of it in this video, but it starts with the big announcement that Donald Trump made yesterday. News outlets are responding, and so is everybody else. It's going to be bad for Trump. Let's talk about why. Breaking, White House follows through on Trump media ban threat as MSNOW denied access. The White House appeared to be following through on Donald Trump's media ban threat with MSNOW revealing their reporters have already been denied access. The network released a statement on Saturday morning saying their reporters were denied access to the White House grounds just a day after Donald Trump made his threat on social media. Earlier this morning, MSNOW journalists were denied access to the White House grounds. The White House belongs to the American people, and the decisions made inside are funded by our tax dollars. The network statement reads, "MMSNOW intends to take any and all steps necessary to defend our First Amendment rights, an essential role of the independent journalism in our democracy." An MSNOW correspondent was supposed to be reporting from the White House on Saturday morning, which he reported on the weekend that her press badge had been disabled. I showed my press badge, and then when I was inside, where we have the magnometers, magnetometers, I attempted to scan my badge, which we have to do to get into the White House grounds. It did not work. There was a red beeping light, and so the officer asked me to hand over my badge. He said that it was disabled. I asked why it could not go inside. He said it was above him. He reported, gardener said her producer's badge was still working, but they had to confiscate her disabled badge, unable to explain why. This is pure weakness. It's pure weakness from Donald Trump, and he has created a story. He has strized and affected his inability to answer questions, because I promise you, the media was not going to be that tough in its follow-ups. We have seen what goes on in that Oval Office. I am begging people for follow-up questions. I am begging people to ask about Natalie Harp. I'm begging people to push back more. But this is the push back. What is about to happen is the push back, and I can promise you, when reporters get back into the White House from those outlets, they will be reinvigorated, and they will be even more rare and to go to push on Trump. So he's just sent himself up for failure. It likely legally as well. And Jamie Raskin called out Donald Trump right here for all of this. In court. I saw what you responded to the president today, his threat to ban reporters from our organization MSNOW and CNN and Politico. I'm from the White House, but I want our audience to see it too. You wrote, "After illegally bulldozing half of the White House, Trump bans media that won't lie for him from the other half." Every self-respecting media entity in America should boycott what's left of the White House if he keeps violating press freedom. What is it? Stay here. Well, look, Donald Trump said long ago that the press is the people's enemy. And that's exactly the reverse of the truth. The press is the people's best friend. That's why Thomas Jefferson said, "If you ask me to choose between having a government without a newspaper or a newspaper without a government, I would not hesitate." A moment to choose the latter, because the press is reporting on what's going on. And if you eliminate the press, like Vladimir Putin is done in Russia or Erdogan in Turkey or any of the autocrats that Donald Trump loves, including President Xi, who he praised tonight and tried to liken his own government to the Chinese government, all of them are trying to demolish the press, which they know is an essential check against the government. So the people understand what's going on. It's amazing that they have been able to so undermine public understanding in some places that people don't instinctively understand that. But people are learning it again. We need the press. We need reporters. We need TV coverage. We need the print press. We need investigative coverage. That's all part of having an effective functioning democracy and every dictator and tyrant tries to attack them and get rid of them. What he said about Xi today and being repressive against the press. It is the quiet part out loud, but he has been at war with the press for a long time. He seems though to be like super melting down now and I compared him to Kinglier, like full, this way of madness, madness lies. It's not his daughters, scorning him and not loving him. It's the American people and the American press corps. But what is it do you think that might have set him off in particular now? Well, yeah, nobody seems to know. It's kind of inscrutable there. And when he praises Xi like that, it of course debunks all of his ridiculous propaganda about communism being on the side of the Democratic Party, the party of democracy and freedom. He loves the communist oil crats. He loves Kim Jong Un. He literally writes love letters to him. He loves President Xi. He said of President Xi that he's right out of central casting. He's got the brains. He's got the looks. He controls a billion and a half people with an iron fist. Trump doesn't have a word to say for the weakers or the Tibetans. For the Chinese people suffering under this crushing authoritarianism there. He has aligned with all the communist autocrats of the world, including his direct master Vladimir Putin, who was the head of the KGB. It is just a complete embarrassment and unsurprising, which is the sad part, that this is unsurprising, that Donald Trump would attack the press in this way. That Donald Trump would throw a temper tantrum and that Donald Trump is projecting he knows what's coming. He knows what's coming in the midterms. He knows what's coming with the questions that Democrats will be asking and he really just doesn't want to be bothered. But unfortunately, you will be investigated. You will be brought before committees. Everyone in your administration will. There will be impeachment. There will be documents you're going to try to shred, not going to have time. And you're going to get fucked. That's what's going to happen to Donald Trump. And we are going to cover it. If the mainstream media doesn't do enough, if your buddies, your billionaire buddies keep buying them up, the independent media will cover it. And one of my friends, Jim Acosta is going to be doing just that. He had a lot to say last night. Answer this question for me. What does the chill look like? Notwithstanding the people who get targeted by the president. What's the effect on the industry and on coverage and accountability when things like this proceed? >> Well, I mean, he's taking a meat axe to the free press in this country and this is a slippery slope. I've been arguing for some time that we are on the path to having a state media-like system in this country. It's hard to recognize that in real time, but it's happening. And my sense of it is that we're at a real critical moment, Ali. You're seeing three different news organizations, important ones, being booted out of the White House. And you heard Donald Trump saying in that video clip that you played, there was no rationale for the decision. And if you go back to my press pass case back in 2018, they said that I behaved rudely or whatever during a press conference. And so they took my press pass away. They put out a doctor video and so on to try to bolster the case. And a federal judge appointed by Donald Trump through it out and said that my Fifth Amendment right to do process had been violated. The First Amendment obviously comes into play here as well, but I can't imagine how this would hold up in court. And so my sense of it is right now, Ali, is that the press in Washington needs to hang tough. And what I think is, is that each of these organizations should sue the White House, sue Donald Trump, and that other news organizations in Washington should band together and say, we will not go to the White House and cover you and cover your administration, we're banning you. And until these measures are withdrawn, there's not going to be any coverage, he's not going to get his pictures, he's not going to get his Rose Garden coverage. The trips on Air Force One, they can be covered by the psychophantic outlets that he likes to have with him at all times, places like Fox and Newsmax and so on. But the rest of the mainstream brand name press in this country should not go along with this. And I'm afraid that they will and that will send a terrible message to the rest of the country. It is our responsibility to take this on and it is our responsibility to make the case that this is who Trump is, because it is who he is. It's who he's always been, pathetic and sad and flailing. And it's why he's lost because that's just exactly how he doesn't want to be represented. And that is who he is. That is Donald Trump. And nothing made that clear than his response to a journalist asking him about this decision yesterday it was disgusting. >> Every president takes an oath to uphold the constitution. >> Much more so than you. >> Because of the fake news, you get so tired of reading and seeing fake news. When you look at CNN, it's just fake, that's why the ratings are no good. When you look at MSNBC, which is some people called MSDNC Democratic National Committee, it's fake news, it's fake news and excuse me, excuse me. And when you look at, it's political, I mean they got a government, a government under Biden game, like $8 million to keep him afloat. And the stories they wrote are fake. So there's a lot of news and there may be others to join him. And maybe they can get better and would like to have men. But our country has to have honest news. You don't have a country unless you have, as I say, borders, good voting, we're straight down the mountain. The borders are unbelievable. Nobody's coming to our country in the last 17 months illegally. But you need borders and you need fair and free voting. And you know what you need? You need a free press. You need a fair press and an honest person and see it and you know it and everybody knows it. You're intelligent. I've done you a long time. You know how fake they're reporting is. It's one side it. It's never good. I've done many, many, look at the story today about favorite nations and drugs. We lowered the drug causes by 50, 60, 70 percent. They won't even put it, if they put it on it, it'll be elected. They will find a reason why that's a negative, okay? I talked about this last night, but Trump saying he does too much to defend the Constitution and the First Amendment. One of the more insane Trump isms I've ever heard. I don't know what too much defense of the Constitution is. I don't know what too much First Amendment is. This is a man wholly out of touch with reality. And when the mainstream press figures out that they should cover him, they'll probably just shut down the White House entirely, because he's a deluded individual. That is how he has to be covered.
