Behold, a lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has revealed. Now two cases are mentioned in these verses, two cases. One is all because of money problems, all because of poverty, all because of poverty. But two cases are mentioned here. That is a family member becomes so poor in those days that he sells himself as a slave to a foreigner. Can you imagine? Which is better? To beg for food and not to die out of hunger and starvation and to get an opportunity to sell yourself as a slave? Aha, out of the two, you know, two risks, you know, it's like one is better than the other. So the guy is so poor, he decides to sell himself to slavery. Aha, because he may die out of hunger and no one is willing to help him. So he sells himself into slavery. That's the first case here. The second case is when, in those days, you know, when they go to the promised land, God gave every tribe a property and every family had their possession or they had lands and properties. And God didn't want the family properties or the lands to leave them forever. But what happened is that when people got into, when there was economic crisis, people sold their lands. This land is mine. So they just sell them. They sold their lands. Better selling the land than to die out of hunger. Why is the land lying down? Why is I dying in hunger and starvation? So they sold the land. But this was God's plan that the land should not be sold forever. So two cases. All because of economic challenges. A family member selling himself as a slave and if he has a property. The second case is selling your property. Selling it off to get money. You have a land. You have a house. Selling it off. Praise God. Never forget two things. A family member being a slave and a family member selling his property. But God now tells us that. He didn't want that. He didn't want that. So what God did was that. He provided a means by which these two cases could be solved. We call that redemption. A case by which the one who sold himself into slavery can be bought back from slavery. And also, the person whose land has been sold, the land could also be bought back. Praise God. So God actually, that's what we read in Leviticus 25. So that the person who is sold. Can be bought back. Praise God. Hallelujah. So God actually. That's what we read in Leviticus 25. Can be restored or can be bought back. And the family property that is gone. Can also be what? Bought back. To repossess at a cost. So God actually didn't want properties or inheritances to be lost. He wanted that in the family. To be in the family. Hallelujah. But to be able to do that. To be able to do that. Three qualifications was required. Three qualifications. So you can just. For that to happen. For you to solve these two cases I've mentioned. Three qualifications was actually required of one person. Of one person. Number one. The person to be. Who qualifies to buy back that family member who is sold into slavery. The person must be a near kinsman. What it means is that he must be a very close relative. Not a distant relative. What does that mean? What does that mean? What does that mean? That means that you are a close relative. That's the first qualification. So you need to be a close relative to be able to buy back. That your brother who was so poor that he has sold his land. God doesn't want the land sold forever. So a close relative qualifies to go and buy back the land and give it to him. Because he wanted properties in the family. Not gone forever. So to qualify for that, number one, you must be a very close relative. Next of kin. Next of kin. A near kinsman. Number two, you have to be wealthy. Because if you are not wealthy, you cannot go, you can't buy back. Because a guy has sold himself as a slave and got some money. So you have to pay back with interest the amount with which he received for selling himself. So you pay back to buy the family member. Then in the case of a lost property or a land that you sold, you are buying it yourself. You are buying it yourself. Then in the case of a lost property or a land that you sold, you are buying back the land. Of course, it may be a nest of kin or a near close relative. But if you don't have the full price, the full amount, you don't qualify to what? Buy back the land and give it to the family member whom you are close to. So, you must be wealthy or you must be able. But the third qualification is the most important. You must be willing. You can get someone who is a near kinsman, who is able, who is wealthy, but the person is not willing. In fact, you cannot force the person to do it. The person must be willing. Praise God. And in the case of willingness, we see an example in the Bible. In the case of Ruth and Boaz. Do you remember the story of Ruth and Boaz? And Ruth and Naomi? When they came from the land of Moab, Elimelech died. And when they came to Bethlehem again, because Elimelech was dead, Boaz was a close relative to Elimelech. And he was the one who was qualified to buy Elimelech's land. So, because of that, Naomi told Ruth. I mean, Naomi actually gave Ruth advice what to do, but God also led the path of Ruth. And Ruth happened to be in the field of Boaz. Almost like Boaz was interested in Ruth. It was love at first sight. If you want to read the story, you could see it's a love story. You could see Boaz was interested in Ruth. Because he told the workers too. He told the workers that he was interested in Ruth. to actually redeem, grant the redemption. But Boaz says, there's a kinsman nearer than I. There was someone who was actually a close relative before Boaz. So the person had a right of redemption before Boaz. So they had to now go and sit before the elders to present the whole case before the elders who were witnesses. But when they did that, the nearest of king wasn't willing. Now, he was willing to buy the land, but he wasn't willing to marry Ruth, because according to the law, after redeeming the land, you also have to marry Ruth. So he wasn't willing to marry Ruth. So he forfeited his inheritance. He has to remove his shoe and all of that. It was a symbolic act in those days. So because he forfeited his inheritance, the lot fell on Boaz. So Boaz was willing. He was a near relative and he was fully dusted. So Boaz granted a redemption, bought the land and married Ruth. Hallelujah. Yeah. So these qualifications are the most important one is that you must be willing. So you must be number one and next a close relative. Number two, wealthy. And number three, willing. Praise God. When that is done, if you have all these three qualifications, you can buy back that your brother who is enslaved. And you can also buy back that property, that land that has been sold. So that your brother who is the original owner can get back the land from the present owner. Can get it back. This was God's system of oppression. This is where the principles he laid in the book of Leviticus. Praise God. Now in those days, there were some legal, and laws and customs that surrendered others I've spoken about. Now in those days, what happened was that before a land could be bought, the contract of sale. Now, the contract recording the sale of property was actually a title deed which was written and sealed. It was written on a scroll and sealed. That was what was done in those days. So actually, there was the first article, two scrolls were made in those days. There was the first article. It was a title deed. The document for the proof of ownership was actually written. After it was written, it was rolled. And after it was rolled, it was sealed with seven seals. Then it was put into a tube like this. Now, it was sealed like this. Now, two copies were made in those days to avoid duplicates. So, with the copies, one was private, the other one was public. Now, tradition tells us that the private one was sent into the temple. There was a place called the the archives of documents in the temple. the archives of documents in the temple. Then there was a public one that was also placed on the document inspection stand in the temple. You know why? There was a document inspection stand that had all the scrolls. Now, what is the content? The content is, let's say, the land your brother sold. Everything about the land is the content for the new owner. But what is on the outside, the backside, is a qualification in the amount. is a qualification in the amount. And the amount is on it. So assuming that you want to redeem or buy back a family member who is a slave, a family member who is a slave, the whole documentation is in the temple. And he has the full amount. So he comes with you, together with witnesses from the village. And comes to the temple. They come to stand before either the judge or the priest in those days. That's him. Then, this is the present owner. You sold the land to this one. So he too has come with his witness. So this is, praise God. But the priest now has a scroll. He has a scroll. Then, I follow him. Then, the priest now reads the qualification at the back side of the scroll. ensures that you are qualified. So he asks us are you a kinsman? Then you prove it. Are you willing? Then the last important one, do you have the evidence of purchase? Now I use the expression the evidence, say the evidence of purchase. The evidence of purchase is the money, the full amount. That's the evidence of purchase, so carry it. It's a lot of money so use both hands. Okay yes it's even a cheque. There was no cheque in those days but this is the evidence of purchase. Okay so you send it for the priest to examine it. Whether it is, it's full okay and the priest you also give it to the present, the present owner of the land to ensure it's the same amount. It's amount okay so you witness unto it. So everything is correct, it's full amount okay. So you all agree he's the next relative then he has the full money. So when it is agreed then the priest will hand over the scroll to him. Now he qualifies because he has a full payment. Then he now qualifies to break the seal. So break the seal. Yes and open it. Now this is the title deed and you see what is yours now. The title deed, whether everything is intact. You are satisfied, you are happy. Okay now the priest now confirms whether everyone here is satisfied with the deal. Everyone is satisfied. So in that case once he has broken the seal, the property is transferred. Once he has it, the property is transferred because he has paid the full amount and he qualifies. Praise God. So after he takes it, now he looks to his brother now because his brother is poor. This man is rich, he doesn't need the whole thing. The thing comes back to the family so it's okay. So you take it and hand it over to him. Hand it over to him. Buy it for yourself." So when they were praising God for that pleasure they are and were created, they were praising God for all his creation. They were singing. But when it came to redemption, it was a higher praise. So we praise for two reasons, for his creation, but the highest praise is for the redemption. So when we come to church, our praise must focus on the redemption. Because the elders, when they came to the redemption, they sang a new song. You understand, they sang a new song. Whenever there is, look at when Israel came out of the Red Sea, that was the kind of redemption. When they came, Miriam, they sang, he has become my salvation. The Lord is my strength and my salvation. They came out of the Red Sea and they sang. Isaiah 53 is the story of the gospel, who has believed our report and to whom is the honor of the Lord. After everything, chapter 54 is the effect of chapter 53. In fact, 54 is a continuation of 53. So 54 is the effect of the gospel story. So 54 begins by saying, sing, O barren. After redemption, we have to sing, you know, sing. Because of his death, sing, O barren, whether you are barren physically, spiritually, or financially, economically, after what Jesus did, it's time to sing. Sing, O barren. Have you begun singing? So, the elders sang in this song, my, you see, the focus of our singing must be the cross, redemption, what Jesus has done. It's the same Greek word for miracles. And the word for wonders is yours. Can you imagine? Power is yours. Power. You don't have to beg for power. Hey. If you know your rights of redemption, power is yours. Not witches, not demons. Oh, if you can only believe. Power is yours. Power is yours. Power is yours. The word is the same word for miracles in the New Testament. The same word for miracles. So, I'm telling you, you can expect every miracle. You can expect miracles. It's yours. And the second one is riches. This is material riches. This is money. I mean, riches, wealth. It's the word plutos. When it is anglicized, it's the word plutocrat. A plutocrat is one who is so wealthy. We call this word filthy, stinking rich. One who is so wealthy and who is so rich that his bookkeepers and his accountants cannot keep the record of his wealth. Because the return of interest on his portfolio is so vast that, which he earns, that they cannot keep the record. He is so, he's too rich. We call that a plutocrat. That's the word riches. For you, you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor. That he, through his puberty, might become rich. That's what he did for us. Jesus did it. You can become wealthy. God is not against you becoming wealthy. God is against your greed and selfishness. But he wants you to prosper. Not just for yourself, but to be a blessing. The world is waiting for you. Families are waiting for you. Nations are waiting for you. Judges are waiting for you. You can prosper to help many. You can prosper to relieve the naked and the poor and to care for many. If there is love in your heart, you want to prosper. But there are many that are dependent on you. There are many that are waiting for you. If there is love in your heart, you would love to prosper. You can't prosper for yourself. You prosper because of Jesus. The gospel must go forth. You prosper to help humanity. You prosper to advance the gospel. Hallelujah. These things are ours. And wisdom. You can't make foolish decisions. Because Christ is your wisdom. You can't choose the wrong marriage partner. Yeah. So you are entitled to making the right decisions. You can't just travel the country anywhere, anyhow. You have to be in God's geographical will for your life. You can't just say, you can't make decisions out of convenience. You make decisions because you know that God has a will for you. Wisdom is to know in advance what you later wish you did. And strength. Physical strength. This includes health. And honor. Honor means you are expensive. And glory. The opposite of glory is curse. And now, the word glory is weight. The word curse literally means to make light. So the modest thing is heavy. With God's presence. God's presence, that is heavy with every kind of blessing. It's called glory. But the more the weight reduces, reduces, and you are so light. We call that curse. The word curse means to make light. That means when God increases your weight, you are far from every curse. You are far from every curse. You are far from. The economic curse doesn't touch you. How are you? Then you must come with force and power to drive them out. You first purchase it, you have the receipt, that's redemption by pitches. But now you have to drive them away. That's redemption by power. Yeah, you need both. Jesus, by his stripes you were healed. But this headache is still disturbing you. The headache doesn't have the right to stay there. And you have to use redemption by power. Power in the name of Jesus will drive it out. Now Jesus has two introductions in this chapter. He says, the lion, why did he introduce him as the lion? But he turned to see the lamb. As the lamb, he gave us redemption by pitches. As the lion, he gives us redemption by power. He says, the lamb, he gives us redemption by the power.
