Unpacking the 'Shining Brighter' Scripture and Joseph's Trials Hello. Hello, everyone. You are welcome to the Breathe podcast. Wow, 2026. This is our first podcast and I'm so glad to have you here. My name is Alwadar Simi Gloria Oil, and I'm the host of the brief podcast. You're so welcome. You're so welcome. OK, so we want to talk about something that is relatable and I believe will bless you. I just, I'm, I'm so convinced that it will bless you. Now, do you know the scripture that talks about how the path of the just is like a shining light that shines brighter and brighter until the day of salvation? It is a very familiar scripture. We talk about it, we recite it, we quote it, we use it especially when we want to talk about how we're meant to be progressive on our walk with God. We use it so often now it is it is very easy for you to use such a scripture to show that you are expected to always be ahead, to always make progress, to always be better than your yesterday. It's expected that your part, the 6th is, is supposed to be one of ease, you know, So some believers make the mistake or make the misappropriation when quoting such scripture and they use it to mean that their path is supposed to be of ease, like it's supposed to be of of comfort, of convenience. So your path should be shining brighter and brighter and more glorious and more wonderful and more pleasant and more supernaturally amazing. That is the expectation of, you know, so many believers today. But do you know that that is not exactly accurate, in fact? OK, let me give you a couple of examples. Tell me Joseph in the Bible, you know when he was sold to Potiphar's house and then he became a slave and then he was thrown into prison. So first of all, he was thrown into the pits by his brothers, betrayed by his own blood, sold as a slave to strangers in another land or to another land literally. And then he was still with God. He was still being faithful you and then straight up prison like even no just imagine Joseph, you are faithful. You know, we hear stories of all because of my faithfulness. It's it it I I was taken from grass to grass because my faithfulness I was rewarded. This guy was faithful. He didn't sleep with this woman and because of that he got accused and was sent to prison. He just kept going down and down and it get tell me was his path shining brighter and brighter? Would anybody even desire such a path, such a process? Can you, can you actually say that the path of Joseph was shining brighter and brighter according to the view of men, according to the standard of the world, according to man's perception, was his path shining brighter and brighter? I do not think so. In fact, you might, you might not believe that. Or more is as if something is following you, as if there is a demonic spirit that is ensuring that you always have bad luck. Because first of all you were sold by your brothers to a man Potiphar. Then you became a slave there. OK, you are doing well. You know, you stayed you, you stayed fast with the God of your father's. You did not compromise. Well, you've been thinking you ain't good person and then this one wants to sleep with you. Like why is she in your story? Why is it? Why is it only you? And then suddenly, because you said no to her, which was commendable, and you know it speaks well of your character, you're thrown into prison. What is going on? And now you are there. Is it was his path shining bright and brighter? I don't think so. But guess what? Guess what? Man's perception. According to man's perception, his path was shining dimmer and dimmer. It was going blacker and darker and darker. How God Uses Trials to Build Character and Prepare You But according to God, his character was being fashioned and furnished into one that to be compatible with where he is going. Now look at the end of Joseph's life. He became the Prime Minister from the prison after he had endured the trials, the tribulations, the test, the suffering and everything that he went through. He was called upon and he was, he was exalted to be the Prime Minister of Egypt. For such a position, definitely there would have been a number of a number of requirements needed as regards character, as regards intelligence, as regards understanding. Now, I'm not saying that there is grace is missing you definitely there is the grace because truly he had to tell Pharaoh that it is God that has the interpretations of all dreams, not him. So definitely God was the one backing him. And even if he wasn't, you know, God is the God that literally, that literally qualifies the cold. So if God is the one that will qualify you, God is going to ensure that it takes you through his school. And his school may not be your typical definition of a glorious place because there will be trials and tribulations, but God has given us an assurance that he has overcome the world. You know, Scripture says that until his word came, the word of the Lord tried him Speaking of Joseph that till his word till the words that have been prophesied over him, that is, that is going to rule and the stars bow down to him and the sun and the moon bow down to him till that word will come to pass. The word of God will try him and those trials, those tribulations they have like they are a must. It has to happen. And when it is happening, it's it's, it will in no way seem like a glorious escapade. It will not it will not seem good. It will seem very stressful. You'll be wondering God, why, why am I here? You are posted to a place that there you have to fetch water or they have to cook with firewood or there you have to walk and shrekt your PPA or walk and shrekt your place of assignment and you're like God. I had I had an appointment letter in shell or in a very exotic company, but you said no to that's why are you saying yes to this? Why do you just want me to suffer? Embrace Refinement: Your Path Shines in the Spirit God is trying you and he's equipping you with characters that are compatible with where you are going. So the path of the just might not be a shining light to the perception of man, but trust me, it's Oh my goodness, you have no idea how your garment is shining and sparkling in the realm of the spirit as you pay heed and as you submit and humble yourself through the process of trying and of preparation and of getting, you know, sharpened and equipped through those fastings, those praying, those those starvation period that you had and those, you know, videos upon videos. They are like God Alpha. Let me just why can't I just enjoy like my friends? He's trying. He's taking you somewhere and and it's it's it's, it's must be a place. So by your flesh is tested and burnt. Now, I'm not saying that you need to be perfect before you are. You know you are ready for where God is taking you, but there needs to be a level of willingness and readiness to humble yourself before him that needs to happen. So yes, there's a place of grace, you know, grace that can cover your weaknesses, grace that can help you when you fall short. But then there is a place of you laying your Isaac as well. There's a place of you submitting yourself. There's a place of you choosing to stay at the quarry site, choosing to be refined like gold, choosing to be cooked and baked through. There is that place and that place will not look pretty, but just know that even through the storm, He's with you though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Aye. So yeah, those times will come from every for for every believer. It will come. But just be assured and be aware that God is involved and he's with you, especially when you are well aware that he said he should be here and he said he should stay. He said you shouldn't leave this position. And yet it is just so stressful. Just know that He's working something in you. He's working into you. The fruits of the Spirit, characters that are compatible to where you are going. You know, there are many examples like Jesus. I guess we're going to explore that one next time.
