You're still going to have to make a choice. God gave you a choice. He's not going to. God's not going to turn you into a little Christian robot. But when you'll possess these superpowers, they're saying, "God, I'm going to quit doing it my way, and I'm going to do it your way." Then you get the sword that can actually cut these things down. You're still going to have to swing the sword, but God gives you the sword that you don't have to live the way that you used to live, that you get the opportunity to change and truly be transformed. That's impossible. Let me tell you what I believe. Your weakness is not your technique. Yes! Yes! Don't think you are. Know you are. The Impossible Life Podcast? His eyesight score is 5 to 20. That's right friends, the former Navy suit. Garadonka-bok, a man born with sniper scopes for eyes. That would be excellent, but it would not be 5 to 20. That's the opposite. Improved vision, so 20 feet. The first 20 is, I see 20 feet away. The like it is the second number. It's like 2010 would mean you see 20 feet away, like it's 10 feet away. Thank you. You just said that I see 5 feet away, like it's 20 feet away. I use, well, do you have a scope on your AR? What's the scope? It's 1 to 10. That's what I did. That's what I said. That's what I purpose it is because I looked this up beforehand. The person has the highest eyesight score. Probably going to go with 4x6 to 36, but it's okay. I knew I was going to get criticized for my scope choice. I was like, I don't even care because it's going to happen no matter what I choose. But the highest score ever was a woman named Veronica Sider in 1972. She was a West German student. Oh, I love that you have this. Yeah. Well, I did a little research for this intro. It was 22. Oh my god. That's crazy. I was. I don't have. I had to get laced like I don't have laser vision anymore. I had to repair my laser vision. He's weighing on. This is not an intro. You were born with laser vision. Or do you mean you got I had I had 2015 when I went into the Navy. Right. Okay. So but like just to say her vision was calculated to be 20 times better than average human vision. She gets insane. She could reportedly identify people in distinguished tiny details from over a mile away. That's crazy. Can you imagine that she must have had like a an abnormal eye shape that gave her. Yeah. Super focus. It's incredible. But man, 1972, that's a record that's still waiting to be used. She used all of her staff points on you. Yeah. She was worthless and everything else couldn't jump for. I just off. No. Couldn't even run a mile in 15 minutes. But man, she could see the mile. Anyways, don't need to run. Already been there. Today's the day. G today. We are talking about leadership, which is one of our favorite things to talk about. We talk about it a lot when it's just me. And we are going to talk today about some of the things that we always talk about. And we are going to talk about leadership today, which I like. I think we're going to talk about leadership more often. When I look back at 320 episodes, the amount of times we've talked about leadership, I would say is not enough. No, it's not. It's actually. And it's one of my favorite things to talk about. Well, and it's massively important because every person out there that's in this, you get the very least you lead yourself. I think we're in a great place to talk about it now. And the only reason we didn't talk about it more in the beginning wasn't because I didn't want to talk about it. But more so from the fact of the lot of people just jump in and start talking about leadership. But there's a base that you have to have because leadership is not the first skill that you learn in life. Correct. And so just by the way, for some of you who love the Impossible Life podcast, listen to the show. However many episodes you've listened to, I would just tell you everything one of our episodes is worth listening to. And I would say build the base for where we are. Well, you can, there's a lot, you get a lot out of listening to 20 episodes. You get a lot out of listening to 50 episodes. But I would tell you it is worthwhile and applause to those of you who do and you reach out to us. And I've talked to you. I know some of you guys that are halfway through and I've talked to many of you who've already done it. You went all the way to the beginning and you listened all the way through. Yeah. And you, that was, you know, I give you credit because I was talking to some men about the podcast yesterday. And I was saying from day zero, you said I want everything we need to be cumulative. And I want whatever we say to stand up for all time. I had no idea what you meant. Praise the Lord that you did. But, but it has actually worked out that way because you don't go back and they're like, oh, they've changed a lot on this or like, why did they do this random episode? There's not a big episode where we could go back and say, yeah, we can deliver. And say, yeah, we can delete that. No one should listen to that anymore. Right. You should listen to all the episodes because we're talking about how to live an impossible life, aka a life that's like holy sold out full, full out following after God. And so it's, you know, I'm glad that it's cumulative and praise the Lord. We're just going to keep getting better, hopefully. All right. So, gee, when I think about leadership, man, because what we're going to do, we're going to give you God's superpower perspective on leadership to like give you the mindset you need. I have this view of life. And truly, as a follower of God, you should feel this way too. I have this view of life that truly God's way of doing things is the best way of doing things. Christ didn't come to the earth with inferior tools. Right. Like for, I will give an example really quick. This isn't what we're going to talk about. The way that we, but you and I were talking about some of this this morning. The way that we have built mighty men. I didn't make anything up. But this, when I view Christ's life and how he built something, I view it with the underlying thought process of he could have done it any way that he wanted to. He wasn't stuck in a box. He wasn't weak Jesus like, oh, I can't say these things. He came here with, you know, the greatest level of wisdom and understanding and says, this is the way that I'm going to build a ministry. And so for example, he didn't say, I got to speak to as many people as possible on the earth myself. Right. Then you know what he would have done. He would have come at this time. Right. Yeah, he'd have a great YouTube channel. Yeah. He would say, exactly. He'd have a great YouTube channel. No, back then he said, I've got to develop a few disciples and fully transform and help them get to where they fully understand and they're starting to lead other people. And at that point, they don't need me anymore. They're ready to go on. And this thing will multiply. That's a, we think that's the way to lead a ministry. True discipleship with a small amount of people multiply those folks, let them transform. And if they can go out and teach the same thing that you've taught them, this is what Jesus did, then the ministry is going to grow. Yeah. That is an example of, you can spend your whole life trying to find out, man, how do you grow a ministry? Jesus already showed you. Yeah. He already showed you. And I think there are many other things in scripture and in Christ life or in scripture or just things that you can piece together from an understanding of all of it and some proverbs, wisdom and some James wisdom. That you can put all these things together and say, man, this is how God would do it. That's the best way to do it. And so I sail that to say, I have this view of life that if I know there is a best way to do everything. And if I don't know what it is, I'm going to look at scripture. And this whole podcast is Nick and I working together us growing and developing over years, trying to put into words and make it plain for people to understand God's way is the best way. And here's exactly what that looks like. Yeah. I'll never be able to say it all in one podcast. Yeah. I don't know for the rest of my life, I'll be able to say like, here's how you think like God in five minutes. I don't think I'll ever be able to do it, but I will spend the rest of my life trying to understand it, trying to live it, to discover it and share it with other people. Yeah, I don't think you're ever meant to be able to say it in five minutes. I actually think that's probably one of the places where our culture works against God's process. The most is that we want to watch an Instagram reel that's going to keep our attention for 60 seconds and tell us how to live. Yeah, here's how to be a millionaire in 60 seconds. Right. And that's what people want. What's the natural supernatural correlation? I've never seen anyone come out of the womb walking, talking and ready to go to work. You come out completely useless, like from a standpoint of utility and needing to be raised, fed, taught how to, you know, they learn how to walk from watching you. They learn how to talk from caring it taught. So that's how God develops us as well. It's it takes time. It takes a lot of repetition. And you need to be raised by people who are more mature. Just talking about that on the last episode. Yeah. There is a set time like clock time, but God also appoints an amount of time. Yeah. I love that. Yeah. Now, gee, real quick, because we're, I do want to get into the superpower combination of mindset here. And we've sort of gone a little off script with our, with the way I do it, but I'm enjoying it. You talked about Christ having the best way. And I think it's so interesting because I always say this, well, I say this really because I've heard it from you. You don't say it exactly like this, but the SEAL teams are like the greatest training organization that we know.
of in the history of man. - I've been a part of quite a few different organizations and really might take away in this build on what I was just saying about discipleship. One of my takeaways in life of what I've learned on leadership and leading teams is that the best organizations are great training organizations. Okay, that is why Mighty Men really feels like a training program. - Yeah. - Okay. And when I look at the SEAL teams, one of the things that I took away from there that the SEALs have a bunch of credibility, a lot of great leaders, a lot of people write in books and I'm not hating on the books that people write like other people do. But there's so many great lessons and things from there. But something I haven't seen people talk about as much that I think is one of the greatest takeaways from the SEAL teams is how great they are at training. - Yeah. - Right, I showed up to SEAL team three. And 18, I don't want to say didn't know what I was doing, but I've never done this before. I've just been through the basic training. And now I'm here to team. And 18 months later, I've got to be in a place to have guys walk into the same set of shoes that I was 18 months ago and help them move down the road. And every three years to every five years spending on commands and situations, leaders get plucked out. It's like, well, you're going somewhere else to put a new guy in there. And so it's because they have a great training program, they have a lot of consistency in how they train, they have consistency of standards, they have strong systems. So people move, get deleted or people die and they're like, that's okay, just put the next guy in. That is a great business. - That's incredible. But you've told the store on this podcast before. So what you talked about with Christ coming in and like, I'm going to train people who are going to be able to train other people. The store you told, and that's why I think is so interesting about you said God's ways are the greatest. And the reason is because they're built on truth. And so you can have an organization like the seal teams that will uncover truth without necessarily recognizing the author. - It's this. Okay, let me give you the parallel example to the seal teams. You could bring in, you could bring in like the best shooter in the world. They're the best guy at shooting rockets in the world. Bring that guy in and say, okay, we're going to get a thousand of the students who don't know how to shoot a rocket launcher in front of that guy. We're all going to let this is the best guy at shooting rocket launchers in the world. We're going to get everybody in front of him to shoot, like to watch him and then you'll learn. And that's how a lot of ministry operates. - Right. - Okay, or the way that the seal teams train is like, well, this is John. John's fired a few rockets in combat. John's going to be running rocket training today. And then what John does is John's going to teach Garrett, I'm going to watch him do it. He's going to talk through it for me. Then he's going to talk me through it. Then I'm going to do it on my own. Then John's going to watch Garrett, after I'm doing it on my own, take someone else, run the same cycle. I'm going to talk them, I'm going to talk and explain it to them. Then I'm going to let them do it. I'm going to talk them through it. Then they're going to explain it to me as they're doing it. Then they're going to do it on their own. And then they're going to do the same thing with another guy. And as soon as the guy that I talk can do it with another guy, John's like, all right, Garrett, you're good to go. And then you're going to do it on your own. And in current times, when we have so much information that's hard to tell, what's the first thing that people say now? Is that AI? Right. Like, we don't even believe what we see with our eyes. I have to-- I didn't have to do this before. But now when I'm doing some of my pitch decks for you and I show certain pictures, like, I had someone to let you know, those are not AI photos. These are real photos. Think about it, I know. You can't even-- I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe not. Because you know what you're seeing? It could be completely wrong. All right. So, gee, this super power combination, man, that was literally the words that you use. This is the following God as a superpower combination. Has three things. Yeah. And again, what this is, OK, this is, I believe it is there. I've experienced it. I've seen it. And it's just hard for me to explain to people what I'm doing the best that I can. But there are some things that you should have. And if you want to hear more of it come to my statement. Because this is like, basically, the undertone of every message that I preach. I don't want to-- I don't try to be rude or insulting. But I also preach from this standpoint of such an authority. Like, this is the best way. Why are you not doing this? Yeah. If you are trying to follow God, but you're not living by what it says, you have asked to go into the battlefield with none of the armor and equipment, like God sent you with. The reason God puts you in such a crazy fight is He says, I'm also going to give you tools. So I'm going to give you weapons that help you overcome all of these things. OK, so the superpower combination. When you have an eternal mindset. We'll get back to the episode in just a minute. One of my favorite episodes, one of our buddy, big norms favorite episodes, long-term timeframe orientation. When you can see further down the road, when you can look further, you're playing a different game. If you are operating for tomorrow, if you're operating for a month from now, if you're operating for six months from now, then you're going to play the game differently than someone who's like, I'll win in 10 years. I'll win in 20 years. I'm gonna win in the end, by the way, just side note, part of the reason we've been losing to, in the short term, losing two countries like China, also losing to Islam, because they're playing a multi-generational game. And America is stuck in a four-year cycle. That's a rabbit trail. Won't go down that road. Something we could talk about a different time. But when you are playing the short-term game, you're going to lose to someone who's playing a longer timeframe orientation than you. I say that to say, in Eternal Mindset, where you're not just looking to the end of this life, but you're looking into eternity, it allows you to play differently. This is, what didn't you think that just let me give this, simplify this, give this simple example. If you are playing on the battlefield against someone who is trying to win in this world, and you're trying to win in eternity, and you're not afraid of death, and you know that God is with you. You may not know how, necessarily, how the battle's going to go, but you can say, like, Paul did. If I live, it's great. And if I die, that's also great. To live is Christ and to die is for Christ. That's Eternal Mindset. If you're playing that way, and you're playing against someone who's operating for this world, who do you think is going to win? Okay, this is an example of superpowers that come from following Christ. So when you have this great Eternal Mindset, when you can see into eternity, and you're playing a longer game, you will live a straighter life. And by that, I mean, you will live a more linear path of a life where everything you're doing is working together. It's all working towards one aim in the end, versus like, well, I try to do this for a season, and I try to do this for a season, that come from short-term thinking. It turns into a zigzag life. If you look into eternity with your life, you live a very straight line of a life. And what this turns into is a mindset of endurance where it's like, I know what's going to happen in the end. Right? If you're playing the long-term game, like short-term pain, you're like, I'm going to endure through this. Right. And you've got to have the mindset, you've got to have the Hegomai, the James chapter one, the Considerate Joy, that goes with it. But it's also, first us alone, and it's chapter one, verse three, endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. You know what you have endurance? 'Cause you see what God's plan is. - Yeah, exactly. - Right, and that's where you can say, like, literally, if I lose today, whatever. - Yeah. - I know what's going to happen in the end, that is long-term time for a more orientation. And so to let, where other, the stuff that like rattles other people, I lost my business, or this didn't work out, or, you know, the hail came and destroyed my crop. You're saying that's not a big deal? - Yeah, that's so good. I feel like there's 15 examples of how short-term thinking absolutely kills us, and what you say with America. I think about marketing. Where companies get hooked on this is like, "Man, we need to generate some cash, so we're just gonna go on sale." Well, then later on, when five years later, when you're like wondering why you can't, you don't have a great, strong brand, and you can't sell full-price products. It's 'cause you've conditioned people. You know, there's certain brands out there that they live like this. Fabletics is a brand that we like. And you know, you get that VIP membership, you can get those $80 short for 15 bucks. Well, I can never pay more for what they have because I've always bought it for 10 or 15 bucks. And so it's like, people don't always think about their good-- - They'd say, uh, Fabletics is a company that you put some celebrities on it, you build a big name and a brand, and you sell it real fast. - Right, yeah, I mean, it's a volume game, for sure. But people don't always think that way. I mean, great example, we all got bailout checks.
man. Oh, that's awesome. Yes. I've got more money. Oh shoot. Here comes inflation. Yeah. Right. And so this this type of thought process is all the time we I'm giving company and government in our lives. It's man, I just don't want to cook tonight. Let's just get let's just get take out and then you know fast forward six months. You can't figure you know you're 25 pounds heavier because you just pressed the easy button so many times. That is that is that is that is the pattern of sin in in our lives is play now. Pay later. Yeah. Man, I was talking to somebody. You don't ever want to borrow from tomorrow's happiness. I was talking to somebody about why I no longer drink and I just said I can't ever have a drink without feeling bad the next day. I've just physically I feel bad and I said I don't want to borrow from tomorrow's happiness because pain at back is never worth it. You're you're you're never going to win in life if you are just thinking about you know what how do I make today. How am I happy today? Right. What's going to be good for me today? You've got to get your life mission focused where you're looking into the end. Okay. And so the second piece that comes with this writing we're just giving some of the superpowers. We'll talk about this stuff more and we're going to turn all this into a leadership conversation here in just a minute. But it's it's purpose. But if you listen to this podcast and you listen to enough of our episodes on purpose, it's not like hey God finally sent me my assignment. Yeah. It's not what I mean. It is this way of living that we call purposeful living. And even when you don't know what your purpose is, it's like Joseph was living his purpose while he was in prison. Didn't know his purpose was to save all of Israel for starvation and famine. However, he was living purposely. It's this way of living where it's like I know God has a purpose and even if I don't see it, that must be part of the plan. Yeah. Maybe he wanted me to live in this desert. Maybe he wanted me to learn how to walk blind for a season to trust him to develop me. So maybe it hurts right now because this is a part of the training program. It's like it's like when you watch some of these siop thriller movies where guys are like the super secret agents and they're stuck in the training loop because they're like, oh, well, this must just be part of the program. Right. Yeah. They don't they don't know. Yeah. This is no, no, no, they're stopped to stop the training. No, then they're like, no, that's just that's exactly what you would say. That's exactly like that dude that they found that still thought Vietnam, the visa war was going exactly. Yeah. But it's understanding it's funny to make the comparison, but it's understanding this is how God works with our lives. Yeah. Everything is God developing you. Now, there's certainly like we make things harder all the time. Yeah. You like you when we sin, you invite calamity into your life. And I'm not trying to sin less because I'm just trying to make God happy because the only thing that makes God happy is when his Christ blood on my life is the only thing that makes me presentable to Christ. I'm not trying to sin less so that I can somehow please God. I'm trying to sin less. So God, you know, quits having to wipe the board and start over with me. You know, I'm trying to I want to get down the road and God's plan and purpose for my life. And I know sin interrupts that. Yeah, massively. But just on purpose, it's living purposefully and knowing like, Hey, I don't have to control all the outcomes. The one who controls all the outcomes has a plan. What is he looking for me to do to live purposely? Right. And it's a part of this is when you stack a purposeful living on top of eternal mindset, you're not afraid of failure. Right. I was saying this to Grace the other night. My Grace is my oldest daughter. We were talking, we read this great book called, is called trying. And I was like, I don't know. But actually, the book was good. A man who pushes back on a well known fables, Garrett Elkebox. It was good. I liked it. But I was talking to Grace about it at bedtime of, hey, look, let me tell you the difference between winners and losers. And she asked me, she's like, am I a winner? I said, you are. I said, I said, you're my daughter. And also, you're going to live like a winner. And here's how winners live. Winners are not afraid to fail. Yeah. And I said to you, I said, winners lose more than losers. And I, and like, she's at this age where I start dropping stuff on her that you're not, you're not, you're not figuring this out yet. But you'll think about it. And you'll remember what I said. And then I know how to catch her in the right space, certainly before bedtime is a good time to just drop those little thoughts there. And I said, this, this is kind of a riddle. You know how we talk about riddles? So this is kind of a riddle of life. Winners lose more than losers. Yeah. Losers are people who are afraid to lose and losers are people who won't try or they give up winners. They lose. And then they keep going. And eventually they win. Yeah. And when you have a purposeful mindset, Joseph, you know what he was in prison, he's like, all right, he had that, um, you know, people attribute it to Jaco, the good mentality. But you know what, there is, that's James chapter one, right? That you consider it joy when you face struggles of any kind. Because this is an opportunity for my endurance to grow in mind when my endurance is complete, I'll be mature and lacking nothing. Joseph just knew he was in the, the training program. That is purposeful living. And then the third piece, I want to pause you because you said something that I want to make sure people capture. We've said it before, but I'm going to just be very clear. We love Proverbs 35 and 6 for purpose, which is trusting the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding and all your ways, acknowledge him and he will direct your pass. We love that script for easy. The purpose formula, what Garrett said about how you will, you will live purposefully. Okay. If you know it, like when you were on mission, there was nothing that was like a small thing, everything mattered because you knew that you were on mission. And what you just said is, like a lot of times because we don't we're waiting for God. He said, it's not God going, okay, here's your assignment and delivering papers to you, which is what we want. We want to know. And I think that's where people struggle with purpose so hard. They're like, I hate what I'm doing right now. And so I'm going to give a half effort because like, this is clearly what I'm not meant to do, which is really like if God showed up and said, this is what you're meant to do, would it suddenly flip you and you would be, you know, you would give 100%. I don't know that you would, but it's that need to know that keeps people from living purposefully and they don't understand that when you live purposefully, it's amazing how the doors open up and how the dots start to connect and God brings you to your needs. And you've got to actually live like God has a plan for your life. This is okay. It's a fine matter. One of the best stories of this is David. Okay. So Samuel annoins David. And he, you know, he's like, okay, God's chosen you as king. He didn't say you're going to sit on the throne tomorrow. Right. Right. He just said God's anointed you as king. What does that mean? See you later. Yeah. Go back out. The sheep. They'll need to be able to do it. Keep them what you're doing. Right. And then this is, this is like this is purposeful living. This is Garrett, what Garrett calls hard dog mindset. Okay. David was a hard dog. David's, you know, why, you know, why David was also not a, because the text says the way that God was with me when I faced the lions and bears, he'll be with me today. That's what the text says. But also when David's facing the lieth, he said, I've been anointed as king. Right. One of us is going to die today. It's not me. Right. I've been anointed as king. This is understanding God is a plan for my life. You know, Christians might start saying like, well, maybe God just meant like, um, maybe I'm not actually, he anointed me as king. He wants me to be king, but he's then he's going to sacrifice me as king. And maybe I'm not actually supposed to sit on the throne and you start gaming it all out and you're like, well, maybe, maybe God isn't actually coming. Maybe God's not really paying attention. And I have to defend for my own life. Right. And okay. So I'm going to go, I got to get Saul. Okay. Here's what's supposed to happen. We'll all go out on the battlefield together and we'll get Saul to sacrifice himself. Right. And he'll die fighting the lieth. Yeah. Um, and then he'll be weak and I'll kill him. And then I'll be the king. Right. Yeah. I'm going to make it happen because God said it. Well, I had the opportunity. I think that's what's so telling is that he actually had the opportunity to kill him. And he what like in case you think, Oh, Garrett, cool story. You see, what Garrett said is verbatim from scripture. I'm failing on the reference. But I think it's the second time he's allowed to kill him or when they're in when they're when he takes the spear from by his head, because they all fell into a deep sleep. His I think it's I can't I want to say it's like Abishire somebody. Something with an a wants to kill him and he says no, he says because whether he dies of old age, whether an enemy takes him or something else, God will make the way. Yeah. And I mean, I don't know when I read that I was like this dude like he was and he would not make it happen. It was that is purposeful living. Yeah. Because he's saying like I if I could, but in this being a not got anointed me King while there was another king. And so if he wanted Saul to die the day after I was anointed, he would have. Yeah. It's full trust. And that that's why that's why I wanted to emphasize when you said purposeful living. Look, wherever you're at, whether you love it, whether you hate it, you have to trust that if God is sovereign and you're responsible, your responsibility in this situation is to do things as unto the Lord. It which means all out, which means to bring his excellence and his glory and to give everything you got. Not because you think you're going to get the reward that oh, then I'm going to get a promotion or whatever you think would be good that would come from that. But because God puts you on the earth to display his glory and because from a place who will be used to say, Lord, I'm going to give everything I got because I trust you. It's amazing what will happen in your heart when you do that. So third superpower here when you talk about purpose for forever, we love it. We love it on the impossible life. Yeah. Third piece here of this just superpower combination. This is faith in God. And many of the most powerful things in scripture, you can tie into stuff that Christ specifically said. You can anchor a lot of these themes. And there's a lot of when you look at the illustrations of how scripture is tied together, they're tied to prophecies of Christ. And then they are tied to things Christ actually said. Right. And one of the things that Christ said that is, and this is principle of the universe, the universe bends hinges around this. He who seeks to gain his life will lose it. And he who seeks to give his life will gain his life. When you chase, when you pursue, when you try to take control and we're going to come back to this in leadership here in a second.
when you try to take control, you do the opposite of control. Because God is the one who's in control. And anytime that you're trying to control something, like full control, is actually a form of rebellion against God. 'Cause he's the one who's in control. The exact same thing we did in the garden. We're gods that have already defined what's right and what's wrong. When you eat of the tree, of the knowledge of good and evil, now you've said, well, now I know and I'll decide. Now, it wasn't the tree of make you sin. It was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And now, instead of God saying what's right or wrong, I'll decide what's right and wrong. And that is the foundation of sin is rebellion against God. And we're trying to control things. We're saying God must not be in control or His control is wrong and mine's better. - Man. - So faith in God, when you're chasing after making money, like one of the things that I've seen, when people say they have integrity, okay? Everybody would like to believe they have integrity until it costs you something. When integrity costs you something, then that's really the test of your integrity. But if you believe God is a plan for your life and you trust Him and you have faithful obedience towards Him, this is the superpower, okay? You can look at a situation and say, "Yep, I'm gonna tell the truth here." And it's gonna pull my wallet get smaller. My wallet's about to get smaller when I tell the truth here. However, when you know God is a plan for you and you trust Him, you know He's also the one who's in control of mine and everything. You know what He can do? The same way, just like when my kids, they do the right thing and it costs them something, they get rewarded for it, right? Now God is not as menial of a father as I am, but I know God's watching me, I know God sees my heart and I know God's gonna bless me and I know the opposite of what'll happen is if I say, "You know God, I know you want, "I know you want me to tell the truth, "I also know you want to bless me. "I'm not gonna tell the truth here "because I need to keep my wallet the size that it is." And then me and you will kind of, we'll square it off in the back end and we'll work out how to, for me to be good again and me to still be the son that you're proud of. When you do that, God's like, "Fine, you go." You don't need me, you do it yourself. You wanna operate with God on your team, where it's like, "God, I'm gonna, "this is like in football, "I can't make the soccer analogy, but like in football." You go take the hit and it's like, you're gonna get decimated, but this is what makes the play. 100% makes the play, right? And then, you know, it's not about being right, it's about getting it right, the team's gonna score and we all win. And I'm on God's team. And so you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna go make the play. Maybe I have to sacrifice my body for a moment to make the play. Sacrifice the body. Everybody knows that term. You played football, you know the term. I'm gonna make the play and then we're gonna win. Yeah. And so this is having trust in God's outcomes better than your ability to control things. This isn't me trying to like trick you or hack you into biblical obedience. What I'm telling you is that this is a better play than you saying, "I don't like that play "'cause I'm gonna get hit." Right. Yeah. It works better. Yeah. These are the superpowers. Now if you don't actually trust in God, this is very hard for you, but I will tell you, you've gotta learn how to play on God's team. And then you're just like, man, we just keep winning. Yeah. So I just want it. So eternal mindset, purpose and faith in God, those are the superpower combination and understand that the way we're talking about these is so practical in application. 'Cause I think a lot of people would agree with what we just said, but if you looked at their life, when it gets like you said, until it costs them something, there's all sorts of stuff that's screaming at you when you're in those situations that distorts your vision. Everybody's on God's team when God is, you know, sending the disease and the locust on the Egyptian. Sure. But then it's like, "Hey now you go kill some giants." Well, or you get out there and like, "Hey, these snakes are biting us." And he doesn't take the snakes away. He just says, "Hey, look at this and you won't die from the poison." Yeah. You know what I mean? It's like, "But why can't you just get the snakes out of here?" Yeah. He could, but he's chosen, you know what I mean? Like, I don't understand it. Good. Okay. Guess what? You're getting some trust developed and you God's developed. That's a good reference. Well, it's a great one. So do you, I mean, you said it, the underlying question that we have to answer is, do we really believe God is in control? Because what you said about this, sacrifice the body is such a good analogy because part of that is like, we are going to encounter injustice and does God allow injustice? Because like, I'm looking at this and this does not seem like it's working out for me. This is a, this is a brain, brain, bender who we won't spend a ton of time here. But this is something we'll revisit. But you gotta understand how God's justice works. Right. Okay. Man is so short term focus. And this is why the superpowers is like, "Hey, this is helping you be like God." All right. That's what the superpowers are. Man, I'm acting more like God than I am like man. Man's way is, I gotta make sure that I'm taken care of and then we'll figure out the rest of the stuff. I've watched men live their lives this way where they're like, well, I'm gonna do marriage wrong. I'm gonna do money wrong. I'm gonna, you know, I'll do all these things wrong and then like, well, and then once I get the money and once I marry the girl and then once, you know, my business is successful, then I'll start doing everything the right way. Right. This is man's way of doing things and you get the consequences of sin. Let me get what I think is right first and then we'll fix all the stuff later. Okay. This is God's way of doing things. God's way of doing things is, well, the wages of sin is death and I will sin my son Christ and he'll die. Yeah. He'll actually die. So we're not going to change the plan. We're not gonna over control for things. Then God takes those consequences and he transforms them into righteousness at the end. God, we are, I want the results now, I want the reward now and then we end up with brokenness and sin in the end that we can't fix. God says, this is my law and this is my structure and where this law results in a wrong outcome, that's what I will fix but I won't break my law. Right. And so God goes through all the right process and then this is, you know, the majority of our lives. God's developing you 99% of the time and the greatness of the reward, the way he used to use one percent of the time. This is the ultimate transformation story. You've got to understand that when you're submitting to God's justice, it's probably gonna feel uncomfortable for a long period of time. But you've got to let him do his work 'cause he's telling a story, he's doing a work in your life. But God is an entirely just God. Now, if you freeze frame the day after Christ died, you would think God is not a just God. Give him time. Let him do what he's doing. And this is what we do. We're the people who pull Christ off the cross 'cause they're like, well, you can't kill him. 'Cause then it's over. Yeah. We do that all the time. So you've got to truly trust in God and understand that he's just, and sometimes to see the full picture, you just got to zoom out. Yeah, and it's taking him out his word because there's lots of places where you'll hear people say, like, how could it just God allow XYZ? And they'll insert that. And it's exactly what you just said. If you freeze frame right now, you're right, man. Like, oh, man, you draw the conclusion. But we are living in an eternal timeframe, which means that most of what is actually to be, we don't even see it. So, and that takes humility. That takes trust, that takes submission, it takes understanding who you are, that we are like the little ant. And God is the creator of the universe. So let's transition. Let's go into leadership here. Yeah. And I would just wanna say this before we get into, we're gonna talk about three leadership killers, and how having the superpowers living a transformed life helps you not kill your leadership. Yeah. Okay, but this is one of my favorite understandings of leadership. This is, again, if you wanna learn how to be a great leader, read the Bible. Yeah. Right, sure. And yeah, there's, you can get some wisdom from Proverbs, and you can learn how to, you know, not break the tin commandments in the Bible. That's not the part that I'm talking about. Right. Christ is the greatest leader who ever lived. Whether you believe he's the Son of God who lived a perfect life and died for your sins and rose again or not. Whether you believe that or not, he's had more influence than any human who's ever walked the earth. 100%. Okay, there's great leadership lessons here. The best leadership lesson I think that's in the Bible is that leadership is a choice. Okay, understand. God's perfect. God has all measure, power and ability to control us, yet he didn't. Because that's a part of, that's the love piece. Right, I'm gonna give you a choice. I want you to want to follow me. Kind of like Eisenhower's definition of leadership. Leadership is getting people to do what you want, when you want them to do it, and they want to do it. And you cannot make anybody want to do something. You have to do. This is, it's, my wife made it really simple for me. She said, I think you're a great leader 'cause you make the wrong things seem stupid. Right. And that's what God does for us. He says, look, I'm gonna show you the promise. I'm gonna show you the greatness. I'm also gonna help you understand. You'll figure it out some on your own, but I'm also gonna help you understand how doing it your way, the consequences of sin is death. Here's what you should do, is you just follow me, do this. Here's the caveat, you might have to trust me. Yeah. You're gonna have to trust me. You say, however, I will make that gap as small as I can for you that I'm not asking you to trust me for forever. Because once you trust me a little bit, you'll see me and you'll experience me. Exactly. And that'll give you enough trust for the next step. But leadership is a choice. It is the hero's journey in life that you would take a step of faith, that you would just move, just take one step from where you are. And this is leadership. Leadership is constantly putting yourself in a position of I have care for you, I have love in my heart for you. I'm gonna do all that I can to protect you. And here's what I believe is right. I'm gonna make it as simple for you as I can. There's a part that you're gonna have to play. Will you trust me, will you follow me, will you play your part? Leadership is a choice.
You can't make your wife be a certain way. You can't make your business partners be a certain way But you can do everything you can to make the right choice seem easy and the wrong choice seems stupid very good Man so good. All right, so let's go to the three leadership killers and man number one is an absolute doozy This will murder your leadership. Yeah in security when you need the people around you to like you and to praise you for what you're doing You're needy. Yeah, and I have talked about as a man and as a leader one of the best things you can be is low needs When you need people to affirm you we need when you when you need people to help you feel good about you If you don't feel it's it's like if you don't trust you, why should we trust you? Right if you don't feel good about yourself Why should we feel good about you? And it is also that dichotomy if he who seeks to gain his life will lose it when you need something from people They're very stingy to give it to you. Right Banks don't lend money to people who need money. Yeah, banks give money to people. It's like man. I didn't guys need any money Sure, here's some yeah Yeah, there's a dichotomy here And when you are insecure as leader meaning you you You don't have a sense of identity and purpose that helps you feel great in the midst of struggle discouragement People shouting you down that you can't feel good in the midst of that Then people are going to struggle to follow you because you can simplify leadership into strength and warmth Right, right. Do you care about me and are you capable? Yeah, very and if how people feel about you hurts your strengths You might not be the strong leader that I want to follow right but When you are someone who it's it's a dichotomy right to to be someone who's like I don't care what you guys think about me But I have so much care for you right it's hard to be both of those things at the same time Because strength is like I don't care. I'm gonna do whatever I want right and I can do it. I whatever I want That's what strength raw strength feels like and then love is will you know I love you guys and I want you guys to love me too and when you can be both at the same time like I care about you But I don't need you to love me. I love you. This is God by the way. I love you. I don't need you to love me I'd really like that you did right if you follow me it would be better for you. Yeah, that's what leadership looks like and so insecurity will crush your leadership the transformation switch here right this is us leading like God is such a It's a confident ability that your ability to lead other people Doesn't require people to believe in you don't be a Santa Claus leader. Yeah, it's like the only I be all the power I have is from when you lead me but the think about Christ the moment he's on the cross Yeah, it might have felt like nobody actually believed in it. Well everybody but he was the moment of it Yeah, it was the moment of his greatest power right yeah and why Because he knew what he could do you know what he could do and he's like it's okay. I'm here for you Yeah, I didn't come here for you to give something to me The term you used when we were talking about transformation was you said confident humility Yeah, I think that that's for a lot of people that would be in oxymoron. It's like it is. It's a both right But but yeah, but think about that and this scripture is so perfect for John 13 through 4 it says Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power and that he had come from God and he was returning to God What does that sound like? I'm like a man who knows who he is? So he got up from the meal took off his outer clothing and wrapped the towel around his waist This is when he washes the disciples feet and I think it's amazing that they make the point that because he knew who he was Why he was there and where he was going? He was able to do that and that's exactly what you're saying like this is not insecure This is the opposite. This is confident humility. It's like because I don't need you to like because this was basically a servant This is saying you know what I'm gonna go ahead and be the janitor in the organization. It's like wait No, no, no, you're like you're Elon Musk. You're the seal. You're like you're the genius It's like I already know who I am. I don't need you guys to to have me in a certain seat or to have a title on me I can also I'll just bend this really quick for a second of insecurity to some of our athletes. Yes Athletes the man who has the power to take the crown is not afraid to take it off right the man who has the power to take the crown Isn't afraid to take it off now the man who thinks he only came upon the crown through time and chance in like We'll defend it with his life. Yeah, because if you took this from me, I could never get it back very good And this is what athletes with their confidence can feel like sometime yeah, it turns which turns into like arrogance and insecurity I will fight against anything that makes me feel like I know how to hit the ball or or am a good athlete because I'm not actually sure that I am Yeah, this reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger and pumping iron yeah, and he's laying there and they're going Arnold Aren't you were like they're talking like when you're at the top of the mountain Everybody's trying to come and take the food off your table. Aren't you aren't you like or does not make it harder And he goes he goes you know what's great about being at the top of the mountain when you want to eat it's there And what he's saying is exactly what you said he's like I already know how to get here. Yeah And so like when I want to eat it's not a matter of like what if somebody else comes. It's like do I know what I'm doing Yeah, and it that is that's a great a great analogy. It's the the confident humility. Yeah Number two here. These are leadership killers. Okay, and this is where you're the faith in God the supernatural power that God has given you if you'll follow him all the way if you'll be transformed This is what I'll undo and show you the better side of that weakness because this is understanding like God has put strength in you And sin will turn that strength into arrogance But when you are living a transformed life it turns that strength into righteousness God's justice is perfect. I want to roll on the perfect justice. I don't want to roll on gear justice. Amen. Okay. Yeah. So number two leadership killer lack of emotional control. Yeah Your emotional outbursts whatever they are anger frustration or you know some people hide their emotion in different way Which is certainly annoying when people Have the feelings and they will throw the side comments but not share their feelings just share all the fruit of their dark feelings Which however you choose to show your emotion a lack of emotional control Makes you unpredictable. Yeah, it makes you untrustworthy. Okay, the This is one of the hallmarks of a great leader when I go and examine leaders and I talk to their people I can tell you the quality of a person's leadership before I've ever met them by talking to their people because Good leaders have an environment where the people who follow them know what they would do right where people What people say oh this is what Garrett would say right? This is already I don't need to ask Garrett I know what he's gonna say. Yeah, I don't need to ask her. I know he's gonna do that's predictable leadership The opposite where it's like I don't know if today's a good day to ask him right me. That's the opposite of good leadership Oh, let's wait for another time I don't think we like if you had like if you are a great king people people could know Godfather reference I could come to you on the day of your daughter's wedding And I'm gonna get the same response as if we were playing golf or whatever it was Because you are not governed by circumstance right that is a great leader But when you are governed by your emotions any sense of injustice right? This is you live in it your way versus God's way Because that's what all emotion is emotion is like well, this was wrong And I got a I don't know how to process it so I'm just gonna let all these emotions out You are frustrated by not being on the same frequency as God yeah, God's like hey. I've already got all this right God doesn't have emotional outbursts. Okay. We do When we're not understanding God's plan when we don't trust his justice and then it turns into Well, today's a good day or today's a bad day Why that's why one of my core values is positive attitude right which rich reflects this I'm gonna see greatness in every opportunity. I'm gonna see greatness every single day I'm not gonna be governed by circumstance. I will act the same whether it's a quote-unquote good day or a quote-unquote bad day when you have no emotional control People will struggle to follow you because you're like yeah, you know, sometimes he's great But you are a pitcher that's hiding a heroin habit. It's like well, we don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow Right. Yeah, I you know it's in my shame. We were talking about this man I I remember whenever I was not serving God and I was at my worst for my wife I knew that she was doing this and it would annoy me. It's not to your shame. It's to God's glory very good. Well done. Yeah. Well done You're right, gee But like man, I just remember my wife would come and kind of be like hey and like she would basically be saying like checking in to see Which version of her husband she was gonna get that yeah, she was saying it's at a good time right and it's Dude, that is the worst thing man. Bad king. It's the yeah, it is the worst thing and the transformed version is obviously a self-controlled consistent Person and like what's amazing gee? Consistency is the number one ingredient for all long-term success is what pastor Keith has said That's one of his leadershipologies Thousand percent stand on that one. Yeah, whether it's a happy relationship with your spouse or successful business or anything else Consistency is the core ingredient and it's who God is right, you know He doesn't love us 99% of the time. Right. He doesn't His salvation doesn't work 99% of the time. He is who he is from the beginning to the end. He'll always be the same He never changes that is the Immortal quality of God is his consistency. Yeah And so I mean we're talking about this superpower listen to this so glacians 519 through 21 because we talked about a lack of emotional control This is this is the acts of the flesh the acts of the flesh are obvious Okay sexual morality impurity and debauchery first things. It comes up pretty obvious idolatry and witchcraft Man those are also obvious now listen to where this let this list turns what take takes a hard left in our own minds Okay sexual morality impurity debauchery idolatry and witchcraft and how dare they do that hatred Oh, well that's a tough one because there's these people that disagree with me discord wait what You mean jealousy fits of rage selfish ambition dissensions factions Oh, man like that nails so much. I mean that's that's what we're talking about
him a fits of rage envy drunkenness or reason to like I warn you as I did before that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. I hope that puts a massive emphasis. We're not just saying, hey, you should have emotional control because it'll make your marriage better. This is literally everyone. He'd be like, oh, yeah, idolatry, which crime is that? Those seem hardcore morality. Right. All right. Right next to that fits of rage. Yeah. Selfish ambition. Descension. Yeah. Like would you just just disagreements? Yeah. Right there next to drunkenness and orgies. Yeah. Exactly. I love it. I love that there's sandwiched in too. For real. Right. This is with sex, sexuality, impurity and debauchery. Got it. Okay. Those things are terrible. Idolatry and witchcraft. Nasty. Yeah. But then in the middle hatred discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions and envy. Dang it. And then drunk and this and orgies. Yeah. Because I was sitting there going like, okay, great. Check, check. No idols, no witchcraft, no sexual immorality. Yeah. It's a, it's an air quotes here. Bad sin sandwich. Put the bad things on the end. Exactly. And all these stuff that right. But then you get to the moon and you're like, oh, dang it. Because it hits all, but that's what we're saying. Like it and like, look, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Man, I hope and this goes back to eternal mindset. I hope you remember that one day you have to stand before God and give an account for your life. And the worst thing you could hear is a way for me. I never knew you. The thought of that breaks me. It never knew you. It is. The never knew you. Isn't you didn't know about me? It isn't that you didn't know what was right. The never knew you. It's the Greek word, Ghanasco to be changed by me. It's that you never let me transform you. Right. And and burden of knowledge here. Yes. A burden of knowledge. If you listen to this podcast and you're listening to this episode where we're talking about these things, you are in, you are no longer in in the camp of, oh, I, I know, right. You know now. And what we're saying is, we're not saying you can be perfect. And it's not that you're still going to have to make a choice. He's not going to God's not going to turn you into a little Christian robot. But when you'll possess these superpowers, they're saying, God, I'm going to quit doing it my way. And I'm going to do it your way. Then you get the sword that can actually cut these things down. You're still going to have to swing the sword, but God gives you the sword that you don't have to live the way that you used to live, that you get the opportunity to change and truly be transformed to know His will for your life, to operate as a creature who has died and rose again. Yes. That's it. The third leadership killer here. So insecurity, lack of emotional control, those will destroy your leadership. The last one here, selfishness, selfishness, and we can all be guilty of selfishness. This is one of those things that you just got to like see every time it's creeping in and just cut it out. Right? Like as a man, I can just speak for all men here. This is what you have to do with lust. You never going to get to a place like, I'm just, you know, just doesn't I no longer find it. Find the women attractive. Yeah. Unless your testosterone level is here. Like if you aren't struggling with lust in the slightest, maybe you should have your tea levels checked. Okay. But it's a controversial. Yeah. That's, that's sure. We can call that one my opinion. But it's one of those things like lust where it's like feel that creeping in, got to cut that out real quick. Right? Like there's, there's weeds growing in my garden, ripple out. Don't let them grow. Don't let them take root. That's how you manage lust is how you manage selfish selfishness. We can all start to say like, when's it going to be my turn? When am I going to get to put some points on the board? I'm tired of, you know, I'm tired of sacrifice sacrifice my body. Can I get the ball? Yes. When am I going to get the ball? That is selfishness. The, the antidote is saying, I'm here to play my part. Right. It's not about me. I get to play a part and I get to be a part of something great. But as soon as you start making it about you, you know what? The banks will absolutely just run out of money really quick. It is that dichotomy. When you start trying to take as much as you can get, you'll get the least you've ever got. For sure. Yeah. The transformation is a heart of service and a heart of sacrifice. It allows you to actually fulfill leadership in the right role where it's like, what is leadership? Christ showed it to us. Leadership is service. Yeah. I'm not here to enroll everyone in the Bill Garrett's castle campaign. Yeah. I'm here to play a part and we're going to all go kill a dragon together. Right. And at the end of the day, that is my service. It's my service to the kingdom to help kill this dragon. And it is my service to everyone else in the campaign to help you play your part. I'm here like, you know, Eisenhower wasn't out there to shoot Hitler in the head himself. Right. He says, I'm here to set a plan and to put things in place so that this war can be won. Yeah. And that really is how you fulfill the function of leadership. Because we've said on previous podcasts, that leadership is a function. A lot of times we make it like a title of honor like, oh, that's the leader. And they become like the superstar celebrity. It's like, no, Christ leadership is that you're the you're the servant. I mean, this is Matthew 2028. Just as the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. When he was on the cross, you think many people are going like, hey, I mean, they they've found it offensive that they said the king of the Jews. They Jews actually argued against pilot putting that sign up. And you know, obviously they did that to kind of mock the Jews. But no would look up and go, there's our leader. But that's exactly who he was. And man, that that hits me hard, even as I as I say that to think about that as leadership. So as we wrap up here, I just want to bring the context back to you, give you the foundation of you've got it to side. I'm going to live for Christ completely. Otherwise, you'll never possess the superpowers. This is the people who want to be in shape. But all they do is watch the Instagram videos. This is the people who wanted to be Navy SEALS. And I'm not taking a shot at anyone here. There's people who wanted to be Navy SEALS, but you never enrolled in the program. You've got to decide, God, I'm going to actually do this with you. I'm tired of just wearing the t-shirt. I'm tired of just hearing about it. I want to receive the superpowers that come from truly following you when you'll submit to him, when you'll get an eternal mindset to see all the way, not just to the end of your life, but into eternity with what you're doing. That you'll live purposefully. That you'll see that even in the midst of your struggles, what feels like disaster. This is God developing me. His plan is better than mine. And when you'll truly trust him, when you'll have faith, when you'll have the courage, it's like, God, I've seen enough. I know you're not going to prove it to me and you're not going to do it for me, but I've seen enough. And I'm going to take a step. When you start living with God's superpowers, it'll fix everything in your life. It'll fix your leadership. It'll help you love your family. It'll help you lead your business.
