The Snack: Verity, States of Emergency, and Pete Davidson vs. Influencers

The episode blends personal anecdotes, current events, and cultural commentary. Verity shares updates on her foster dogs, including the adoption of Cody and the availability of Zizu, while humorously struggling with her new female pit bull, Gumball. The host describes their household as in a constant state of emergency due to flooding and a measles outbreak, questioning the real-world impact of such cases. Music rumors dominate, with speculation that Jay-Z might headline the Super Bowl and Drake could perform at Coachella, both of which are met with mixed excitement and skepticism. A deep dive into the film *Verity* reveals a sharp divide between critics and audiences, with fans loving the adaptation despite its slow pacing and graphic content. The discussion turns to the literacy crisis, sparked by Alex Earle’s claim of not having read a book, highlighting broader societal concerns about reading and education. Pete Davidson’s sharp criticism of influencers is called out as hypocritical, given his own ties to high-profile women and revenue from influencer work. The segment also covers the emotional impact of *The Social Reckoning*, a film on social media’s role in radicalization, and touches on controversial topics like a woman on death row and a cease-and-desist against a new "Bachelor" format. The episode concludes with a call for women to lead in legal and social justice cases, emphasizing accountability and empathy in public discourse.

(upbeat music) - This week on The Snack, Verity Super Bowl Rumors and Pete Davidson versus influencers. This is a deer media production. Enjoy! (upbeat music) - Hi guys! - Hi guys! - I'm trying to be very quiet to not disturb. - The bowl in a china shop in my house (laughs) I have a right adult. I have a third foster dog, Gumball from Wags and Wocks LA. You didn't know her name till just now. I didn't even know it was a girl until two seconds ago. - I have never had a girl dog in my life, not my family in the home. I can't stop saying like boys and calling her and misgendering her. I'm just not used to it, but yes, just she is a female, one-year-old, pit bull mix, and she is a lot. - I could do it. - It's just- - I'm not strong enough. She's so-- - I don't understand. - I don't understand. - Somebody should adopt her, but I'm just, I'm a little person, I can't have a big dog. - Yes, it's a lot, and she is so sweet, she's well-trained, like she's the perfect dog for someone that wants a high-energy pit mix, and I'll try to get her on screen at some point, but I'm not gonna wake her up right now. She's sleeping on the couch, so we don't disturb her when she is relaxing. - We-- - (laughs) - So we are both existing in a state of emergency. - Yes. - Okay. - Can I wrap it up, can I wrap up the dog thing up? - I was talking about the dog. - Um, no. (laughs) - Okay, sorry, no, I just wanna say that Cody got adopted. My little angel Cody, who you guys saw in multiple episodes, so Cody got adopted by this nice older couple, and they're so in love with him, and Zizu, the pug, is still available for adoption as well. So I just wanna give an update on my trio of foster dogs I've had, but, I guess, Loki, the state of California, and our household is a bit of a state of emergency, but you have the measles. - We have a new state of emergency, so last week we had a nor Easter flooding state of emergency. This week's state of emergency is a measles outbreak, as we are recording there as 108 cases. So everything is just bad all the time. - Yeah, the country's a state of emergency, I would say. - Yeah. - Well, let's think our partners. - Okay, thank you to Quinn's, she's our long-time love, Quinn's. Get free shipping and 365 day returns on your next order at quince.com/gge and app exclusive offers when you download the app. - And thank you to NoCD. If you're struggling with OCD, book a free 15-minute call at noCD.com and Redkin. Visit Altibuty to shop Redkin Acidic Grow full system online and start building your healthiest looking hair routine. - And we are gonna kick it off with a rumor report, music-specific rumor report, but we love a rumor. You know, we love an unverified rumor at the onset. I love perpetuating, maybe true things. (laughs) So we'll go chronologically. The first rumor is that Jay-Z could be headlining the Super Bowl. Maybe with Beyonce, people are finding little Easter eggs here and there, but the rumor is that they are struggling to book a headliner. So Jay-Z and Rock Nation are involved in book a headliner. I feel like we have known this throughout the years. And the sources claim organizers are facing difficulties locking in a headliner. The game's gonna be here in LA, so far. And it says, if a solo star cannot be finalized, speculation suggests Jay-Z could headline the show himself and bring out an all-star lineup of musical friends. I think it's so funny to be like, if I can't find anybody, I'll do it myself. It's very Donald Trump. Remember when he did that shit? What was it? It's like something that no one wanted to perform at obviously 'cause it was the so single president. He's like, I'll do it myself. That's fair, that's fair. Who would want that job? (laughs) Well, they're also saying that by now there has been a headliner announced, right? This is kind of late in the year that they haven't announced somebody. Right, like when did they usually announce it? I just can't believe it's the end of the year, but people are saying that Justin Bieber and Harry Styles were high in the list, but not confirmed. And they don't wanna do it. And so this is all rumor and speculation, but I would die and I'm already having anxiety about going if that's the case. Like I've like, I gotta go, I live here. And if it's Beyonce and Jay-Z. And we've seen them perform together at the link, actually, in Philly during the On the Run two tour and it was incredible. But if it was here in LA, like the people he would bring out. So I don't know, I hope that the rock nation can't find anybody. And I hope Jay-Z is like, fine, I'll fucking do it. It's crazy, you know they don't get paid. I wouldn't do it if they don't. You don't get money? I would have thought that more people would wanna do this after Bad Bunny last year. I would have thought that like the NFL had some good will surrounding it because they continued on with the Bad Bunny half time show. So I'm surprised that like people don't wanna do it. No, they do not receive a traditional appearance fee or paycheck from the NFL. Why would they do it for the love of the game? For the exposures, what they say. And I feel like people are like, no, not worth it. Nobody performing at the Super Bowl needs the exposure. Right, like adjust, do Coachella, which brings us to our next rubber. So there is rumors that Drake, may do Coachella, are you gonna go? A hundred percent would have to go to this. All three nights? Well, two weekends? Two weekends. Okay, right, I'm sorry I just tried black out Coachella 'cause we went once and I was like, never again, okay? Maybe you are thinking of when he did do, I think it was the wireless festival I believe last year. And I think that he did three nights all different performances. That's why I think he would be so incredible for Coachella. He would do two totally different performances. Like real fans and real people who wanted to see what it was about would go both weekends. And he is an incredible performer. He's got the catalog, he's got the charisma. I've seen him once, I saw him with Jay Cole. He's just such a fun watch. Like this makes so much sense. And he would have two totally completely different weekends. That's my prediction. And I would die to see it. I mean, I don't know. I said yes immediately, but I don't know if I can handle Coachella again. And I think it would be like record turnout and crowds. I would go if I got an artist pass. So I'm gonna manifest that if I could be up in the pit or in super VIP, I would 100% go. So let me just put that out the universe. Any other questions? I'm gonna manifest really super bowl. I am not gonna manifest going to Coachella. I think I'm jumping music festivals. Maybe for the rest of my life. Maybe is there any other music festival that I really want to go to? I mean, have I ever had fun at a music festival? I was supposed to go to this music festival recently. It was the Ocean Wave Festival down the street in Santa Monica, the killers headlining one day in Olivia Dean the next day. And when I tell you I had just gotten approved for VIP, super VIP, the proper was doing the VIP. I had just gotten the email that said, "I was good to go for the weekend with a guest." And you know, there was deliverables and whatnot. But I was in three hours later they canceled it. The whole festival, state of emergency. State of emergency, they're like this hurricane, something the beaches are roting. We're getting a little faster loose with states of emergency, okay? Listen, I'm not saying the measles aren't like a big deal. And I was talking about this with you before, like 108 cases in like the packed city of New York City, that could explode, like 108 of anything doesn't seem like a state of emergency to me. You know what Rayna? I'm gonna say that probably at the end of 2019 or early 2020 someone was like, there's only 108 cases of COVID. What could this actually turn into looking for on the tape on it? This is the big deal. I was an early COVID make fun of her. Like my brother was like go get toilet paper and I was like grow up and stopping such a fucking baby. And I was wrong. I never hoarded toilet paper. I don't think I ever hoarded it. I mean, we had plenty of it here in New York City. All right, well, look out for those musical performances and states of emergency. Or not. 'Cause they're rumors, just love your life. So the biggest premiere, biggest movie premiere, probably if the fall season so far, Verity, calling Hoover Book that was re-adapted into a movie starring Dakota Johnson and Half Away and Josh Hartnett, who rose from the dead. So Ashley and I both read the book, love the book. We'll tell you our thoughts on the movies. Overall, very interesting feedback and reviews coming out of the blog, a sphere. So, what about Rayna? Before we get into it, I need to know how you felt about Josh Hartnett. All grown up and puffy. Look old to me. Okay, I love to see him, though. That's a real deep cut. I have not seen him in anything since our 20s. What was the last thing we saw in it? I don't know what I don't care. I'm not going to look it up. I want to just think of him as, what was he even in? I don't know, I want to remember him as he was. He was a heart throbbing. So now he's just kind of like, listen, he's still, I mean, I would hit it, but like, he just was a-- Oh. I thought he was appropriately cast. I will say, I thought that him and him and halfway were like good ages for this role. Dakota Johnson, I thought seemed, I mean, she's phenomenal, but I thought she was older than the original character. Okay, I have my answer. The last time I remember seeing him was 2001 in Pearl Harbor. 25 years ago. My high school graduation year, Pearl Harbor in the theater, that's the last memory I have of him. Is he the husband that dies? Or is he the husband she gets with the friend? She gets with Ben Affleck after Josh Hartnett dies. Okay, right, I don't know. Guys, was 25 years ago. Okay, so let's hear what you think. What's your thoughts on the movie? this movie got kind of I mean, it got a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes by critics, I will say. - Yes. - And I was looking through all these reviews before I went inside and there's headlines from the New Yorker Verity is a criminal waste of talent. I went into it really open-minded being all these outlets are dragging it, but I think everybody likes to have a negative take 'cause it's their hot take. I think everybody's rushing to say something negative about everything all the time. - I didn't mind it. - Was it the greatest movie I've ever seen in my life? - No, but I thought it was like well-casted. I thought the acting was good. I thought, I actually thought it could have been longer. What I felt that they removed was all of Loan's backstory and you don't really know anything about the character, but was it an entertaining two hours? Yeah, I found it entertaining enough. I liked him with you. Yeah, I enjoyed it. I didn't love it. I loved the book, but not in a, it's my favorite book that changed my life and they have to get the movie right kind of thing. I enjoyed it. I do like Dakota Johnson as an actress. People have mixed feelings on her. I feel like we've talked about. She always seems to play the same character, which is probably how much how she is in real life. I mean, if that was Sydney Swini, I would have walked out. The movie itself couldn't have kept me in that theater if that was Sydney Swini's air time, but I like Dakota Johnson. It didn't blow my mind. I don't regret going. I think the trailer was completely misleading. I think the trailer made it look like a horror film. There were a lot of bloody mouths. That's their theme. I guess a lot of blood in the mouth. There was like one good jump scare, but it wasn't scary. It was sort of eerie throughout. And then at the very end, I feel like it picked up the pace, but there was a point maybe midway through where I was like, is this boring? It feels slow. And I just love the story. I love the story. I love the book. But again, not too much. I just was watching this story that I love unfold. And so I was enjoying it, and I liked the cast. But I'm sitting there. I went to Shashank, and I'm like, would he be enjoying this? Is this too boring and too slow midway through the movie? But I was still enjoying it. It was this weird moment in my head of like, is this good? They kept overlaying all this really suspenseful music over parts of it that weren't suspenseful. And so I was like, is anything happening or is the music just creepy? Too much mouth stuff. Too much teeth stuff. I'm really mad at him. Oh, too much teeth stuff. I just, it really grossed me out. And it is kind of long, and then it picks up steam towards the end very quickly. It was a pretty close adaptation to the book. They did not change that much. The main thing they changed is that they had three kids in the book. But I had kind of forgotten that the first child that died, she sort of very blamed the second child. There was an allergic reaction. She had like resentment towards the second child that played into why she may have, quote, unquote, murdered her. So people are saying that people who read the book enjoy the movie more, again, it's like fans versus critics. And like a real disparity that almost always happens and always happens with her, with calling Hoover's adaptations. So it would be like a 30% like on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. And then calling Hoover fans would be almost double or more. So I found that interesting. I want to adjust what you said, because there's a huge swing. So it ends with that's got 55% from critics, 87% audience score, regretting you, 29% critics score, 83% audience score, and reminders of him, 56 critics, 87 audience. So it is like a huge swing. Yeah, exactly. And that's the thing. Like I wish I could watch this without knowing the book and give it a different review maybe. But it's just like, I like the book and I like the movie, which is weird, because usually when I love a book, I'm more critical of the movie. But I'm just like, yeah, like this. It's fine, you know? It's fine. That's what I felt. I wasn't mad at it. I think I also have enough distance from the book. I read it three and a half years ago. I don't remember it as much. If I just saw this as a piece of art, it's fine. It's good. Didn't change my life, but I like the story a lot. You know what? I think that is the best way to do it when there's years between and it's not fresh in your mind. And so you know it loosely. The story, but you kind of forget what's going to happen. I think that's a perfect way to do it. I think I read this during COVID. Variety. Wow. Maybe it was 2022. Regardless, it was years ago. But the major debate in this happened after the book came out, too, was which is real. The letter or the manuscript. So is Variety the villain and the manuscript was real? And the letter was just a diversion or to throw off the scent or is her husband the villain as is low in. And the letter was real. And the manuscript was actually just this demonic writing exercise. So I want to know what you think. Because I don't know your answer. I have just I've racked my brain. I don't know if I have an answer. I've gone back and forth so much. And like, I like either ending. I mean, it would be so sick and insane for somebody to actually feel those feelings that she wrote in the manuscript that like she hates her children, she resents them. They talk. Her husband away from her. I mean, it's so sick. Yeah, but what's sick are that or making it up? I don't know. I don't know. No. I really don't know, but like her husband's like a fucking weirdo too. He sees this girl get hit by a car and they're covered in blood. He doesn't mention that they're going to go a meeting together afterwards. Like, yeah, I'm really torn and I wish I had a definitive answer. So you have to tell me yours and maybe I'll take yours. No, but this is why it's so good or so frustrating. But this is why like that it can leave readers or viewers debating this forever. That's what makes it good. That's why you know she created something good. And I'm not some calling Hoover Stan, but like this is good, you know, that we are even having this conversation. It was Josh Hartnett. I forget his name. What's his name? How's the husband? I don't care. We only know the women's names. But he's weird too. He's deranged. She murdered her and lo and was necropolis. Like they're all deranged people. Uh-huh. And I want to believe women. But I think it's hard not to say manuscript when you have read the whole book or watch the whole movie painting that picture. I think it's really hard to change your mind at the end when you have watched it play out as if the manuscript is really entire time. I think the manuscript, I think all the signs are there that she is really twisted. The fact that she faked her own paralysis, she got a thumbtack pushing her hand and didn't flinch. Like even in the interviews, what is the deal with this old, timey voice? She dresses like a first lady from the eighties and she speaks like it's from a different time. Like she's not an authentic person. And so I think she's just the more twisted one and that the manuscript is real, but everybody's fucked up. You're right. Everybody's fucked up. Also, a person that could fake their own paralysis could absolutely have felt like this towards her children killed her child. Like she's- Ormated up though. Ormated up. I don't know. I don't know you guys. Like let us know what you guys think. Because I am. It's rare that I just don't. I can't land on an opinion. I mean, I tend to lean towards what you're saying because she is so twisted and fucked up. I mean, either way, she's super twisted. And so it was he though, like he was dishonest, like he saw it low and out, you know, and then he just like married her and knocked her up, weird as hell. And she was into it when he admits to her that he saw her out. She got horny. I was like- I mean, I was too. I would run. Maybe Josh Hartnett in 2020- Oh. In 2021. It's not creepy if he's hot. No, but then like at the end, he's strangling her and then low and it's like, this is how to do it. And you're like, wait, did you kill your mom? Like I had this thought of just like, oh, she's bad too. I don't know. What? Did they talk more about her being bad in the book? I forget. And I know this was one of your critiques that we just didn't know enough about her backstory. And she seemed totally innocent until she wasn't. And I'm just forgetting. I mean, I think they do allude in the movie to her having a fucked up childhood, right? And just bad stuff, trauma that kind of turned her in who she was. Yeah, that was kind of it. But then I don't know. That's a leap to being a murderer, but you know who's to say? Well, someone who didn't read the book is Alex Earl, and this was last week's headline. But we just want to discuss it on a bigger scale. Alex Earl K. Mallon says she doesn't remember the last book that she's read. Maybe Dr. Seuss was her quote, and I got to say, Dr. Seuss catching a stray, like the whole point of Dr. Seuss books is to get kids excited about reading, like he's like, I failed with this one. Also, by the way, the second book I ever read was Verity, Verena, okay, remember that summer I discovered reading? Right, as someone who recently started reading, but I just feel like this could not be further proof of the literacy crisis. Like this is one of the most famous people in America right now. She's her family's a show in Netflix, and she has never read a book. Like this is the embodiment of America. And it's fine. Like I'm not going to sit here and call her an idiot and drag her. You could read or not. It felt sad to me. She could have been exaggerating. You know, like I have to beg the question, why didn't she have to read a book in high school? Like I think most kids remember, like I had to read The Great Gatsby. I had to read The Killamockingbird. Like what happened in Red Bag, New Jersey to the Catholic high school she went to? I looked that up. I didn't know that just offhand. But I'm like books, don't you remember the books that you were forced to read or did you just not read them? Did you just read the clips notes? I just think it's sad because there's so much joy in reading as a kid. That was my whole childhood. I got so many free personal pan pizzas for pizza hut because of it. And in adulthood, like, I don't know. I don't need to advocate for reading, but it's like it makes you smarter. It makes you have things to talk about at dinner. It's enriching entertainment. It makes you more informed. I don't know. It's not a flex. And I'm not saying that she said that it was, but it just feels sad to me. And I think that our audience and our listeners love to read, and anytime we talk about books, they want more and more and more. And I know we have a really intelligent, thoughtful audience, and that loves to read. And I'm really proud of that. I think that anytime we talk about books, I'm like, I love that that's who looks up to us and follows us, because I just, I just, I just, I don't know, I found this, the sentiment kind of sad. I found it sad too, but she is a business person and has done a lot. So it, like, can't be true to me. Like, maybe she read books. Maybe she means, like, for pleasure. Totally. I mean, guys, maybe we're thinking too much into it. I don't totally agree with your, like, she's successful. So she has to be intelligent and has read books. I don't know that that's a direct-through line, but, you know, I mean, look who's the president. And I'm not comparing her to him, but, you know, you can go really far being unintelligent. And that is not a dig at her. That is just America, which we will talk about. I just think, like, Alex, like, have a book in the bank with goose bumps, 50 shades, calling Hoover, like, gone girl, like, have a book to say. I don't think it's true. And I do think it's a disappointing thing to say if it isn't true. If that's really not the case, that would make me sad also, because I don't think it's, like, a good thing to perpetuate, like, that you don't read. I agree. Yeah, and now there's, like, a TikTok trend of, like, I don't read either. And I'm, like, stop it, girlies. Don't do this. Don't, like, we don't need this. Like, oh, I'm just, like, I don't read. I'm so dumb. Like, I don't know. I just think it's, I, I was just what women to be, like, smart and formed and, you know, have enriching hobbies, and it's just made me sad. Like, that's where we're at. I have complicated feelings about it, about, like, who we make famous in society today and the type of ideals that we prop up. But, like, has she made all this money independently? Probably. Like, is it the dream to be an entrepreneur, to be an influencer? It's a lot of people's dreams. It is. We always say you could prop up worse people. Yeah, for sure. When I put somebody in front of my daughter and say, like, this is a role model, she doesn't read. But I was like, she's also a business person. I just, I have, I have the same feelings that you have, and it made me sad, but I have, like, complicated feelings about it. And I know it was, like, one quote, and it might have been taken out of context. But it really, I've been thinking about this constantly for the last week. Yeah, I'm with you. I, this, I wasn't dragging her. I'm just, like, it just, it bums me out. And again, yes, of course, we could have worse role models, for sure. So, that's our feelings on reading and justice for Dr. Seuss. But we do have more to say about this conversation. But let's just take a quick break to talk about our partners. I am telling you guys about no CD. So for a lot of people, millions of people, it's not just anxiety. I think a lot of people have anxiety and stress, but OCD is a totally different thing. This is going to be those what if intrusive thoughts that just take over your brain. It's not just the organizing stereotype. Again, it's persisted on wanted thoughts. They feel out of character, along with mental or physical behaviors, you feel driven to do to get relief, even when it never actually comes. These thoughts can feel very real, which is what makes them so upsetting. It can happen a lot when you're dating and in your current relationship with friendships with work, whatever it may be. But the good news is it is highly treatable with the right kind of specialized therapy, which is ERP exposure and response prevention therapy proven to be the most effective treatment. And if you want those pieces in your closet that you reach for a time and time again to stand the test of time that are going to be with you year after year for these seasons, I really can't recommend quince enough. They make elevated everyday essentials. They use premium materials. So they have Mongolian cashmere. They have fantastic jeans. Actually, and I like to jewelry the luggage. They have so much on the side of you're like taking a little trip. And so much of it is timeless. So I have so much from quince now. And it's just last of me year after year wash after wash. And as the weather gets colder, if you want a coat, if you want reasonably sourced down jackets or cozy cashmere sweaters, I have cashmere cardigans, I have cashmere turtle necks, crew necks. I mean, we have so many colors of cashmere sweaters. The silk in the cashmere and linen and all the things. Also, watch this space for my new chairs. They're furniture is incredible. Rain of these white bouclay swivel chairs. I want to get to and put them in my living room when I move. I'm obsessed with it. And every review is like I'm obsessed with these. They're not too big, but they're like deep enough. They look so comfy. Everyone's like these showed up so quickly. And they're just incredible. So check them out for anything you need. But in your home, I'm obsessed with the furniture and great prices. They have furniture, they have bedding and they've stuffed for your kitchen. And it is priced 50 to 80 percent less than similar brands. We don't know how they do it. Their prices are unbelievable. And I am constantly going to their site for new stuff. And I am telling you guys about redkin specifically the redkin acidic grow full system. I have it here. There's literally a hair on one of these bottles because I just pulled out of the shower because I've been using it. So I have the shampoo, the density and strength system for thin or flat hair. This smell I could die. This is one of the, I think this is the best smelling shampoo I've ever used in my life. And I love the way it feels, the love the way the consistency and the conditioner as well. I feel like I'm having a pretty good hair day. I used this last night, wash my hair. And we have also the scalp and hair serum, which is really important to have a healthy scalp. We talked about this on episode recently with the dermatologist Dr. Mermina and how important the scalp health is to your overall hair and the way that it looks and then the instant densifying spray. I can say with certainty that the second you start using these products, your hair will look and feel thicker and fuller. I've just been obsessed with it than over time. Of course, it's only going to improve. As we all know, hair can really just change the way you feel about your, your looks and your, your confidence. And I've talked for years about the issues that I've had with my hair, shedding and thinning and breakage specifically. So I really turned to this and I really, really love it. And I feel like my hair looks fuller, feels stronger. And I'm just loving these products. Reina went into Ulta and they were saying that like everyone is buying these and they're so into them. We love the packaging. We really love everything about them. You guys check it out and let me know if you think about that smell because I just got to know if you feel the same way. So you can visit altibuty to shop redkin acidic grow full system online and start building your healthiest looking hair routine. Okay. So Pete Davidson is back in the news. We can't get rid of him. He did an article variety and an interview. He covered a lot of stuff from being a father to what he thinks about influencers today. We can play you guys a little snippet. But the thing that really got a lot of attention was him saying that there are these influencer girlies. But he was like, there's girls my age. He's 30. I don't know what that was about. But like he was basically saying that all you're doing is like, come get ready with me. And they're making $40 million. It's exaggeration. A handful maybe of people who are just doing that type of content are making $40 million. Maybe not even people like Alex Earl. The way he says it, he's just like, and who the fuck are you? And girls are just talking to themselves on there. And they're like, okay, come get ready with me. And I'm like, who the fuck are you? And I just could not have hated the tone more. I felt like the tone felt like so much contempt for women. Like this wasn't really a discussion about capitalism or wealth disparity. It was just like women only like there are also male streamers who were making millions of dollars. There was no smoke for them. This really felt like it was just targeted at women. And I just want to say that I feel like past Pete Davidson's SNL days, the only thing that keeps him relevant is the women he dates. Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, the list goes on like his dating life, his heterosexual dating life centered around women is the thing that has made him famous and able to make money. And one final thing I will say about Pete Davidson, is he has no room to talk about a women or making money considering last year he made a million dollars most likely at the Saudi Arabia comedy festival in Sain. He did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia. Obviously there was so much criticism surrounding it. How could you, how could you do this? Knowing what the thing is this country does or what they stand for. And he's making money that way. the audacity for me. I'm with you. Listen. To back up, I think it's an interesting discussion just topped out generally that like, yes, there are people making get ready with me videos and they do make millions of dollars and it is fucking wild to me. But it is very much don't hate the player, hate the game. I think these people have identified what works and if they want to give them money, then good for them. I don't know. Like I guarantee anybody making $40 million, I guarantee anybody making $150,000 as an influencer is working hard, is networking. What I'd rather be doing that, considering it a desk, it sales horse, yes, of course. But somebody making you a million dollars doing this is working hard. But outside of this, for Pete Davidson to be the person saying this is crazy to me. Like he's out here. What is he done with his life that is so amazing, astonishing, good for society? You're a comedian. I think that's hard. You and I think that's hard. But he died to move society forward. Comedy, I feel like it's not even a thing. It does brands. He's an influencer. He's an influencer. He did the ad campaigns with Reformation. He's doing commercials all the time. Like someone did a mashup of all the brands he's worked with. He's doing the same thing. And to me, it was just the way he said it. It was, I swear, the way he said this statement, this bitter way he said it, looking like he does was like the beginning of a serial killer documentary. Like it just felt so mean. And I will say, like I think one of the top issues plaguing this country is wealth disparity. Like I said, late stage capitalism, money allocation, I too think it's crazy that a woman can make millions from get ready with me video. Or a man can make millions playing video games while teachers can't pay their bills. Like why do you get to make 10, 20, 30 times what a first responder makes talking to the camera on Instagram? Like, I think this is ass backwards. I find a lot of the sickening and it's not to take away from whatever somebody wants to do with their life. And again, maybe that was his point, but it was the way it was said and the way it was directed towards women only. I just, it really gave me the heck with you. It really, I think a lot about who we decide to make famous and how we allocate money to people and what brands take their money and put it behind. But I would never in my life sit down and with my whole chest scream, who the fuck are you? Mad. He's like bitter about something. And so the latest headline that came out was his ex, Olivia O'Brien, has in light of all this made a statement. She said, I was dating him in 2020 and found out we were no longer together by seeing a Snapchat that he went public with a more famous woman, LMAO. He is an absolute joke of a human being. But wasn't that also Cassie David's story, too, that she was dating him and they weren't fully broken up and then she sees these dating Ariana Grande in the press. Like this man is this disrespectful history of dating women. I mean, they all have a story. We, you know, know things as well. And so I just, this really fired me up. I've never really had a problem with him until I saw that. I just, I thought it was really interesting that he would be the person making this commentary. He dates influencers. He is an influencer. I tend to think comedians are, are pretty open-minded with like what you do with your life. How you make money. I, you know, I don't want anybody judging what I do for a living anymore than somebody saying like, all you do is write dick jokes because it's like deeper than that and it's harder than that. He's just, it's an interesting person to be levying judgment against other people. And I think it's also funny to speak of his ex's Kim Kardashian also did an interview this week where she's talking about her relationship with Louis Hamilton. And she says, I've been really single for the last five years, which is funny because she started dating Pete Davidson in August of 2022 and they were together for nine months. And she was like, just so you guys know that, that wasn't with him. That was a relationship. I don't know if that one. Well, it's funny because you talk about Kim. And when you watch Pete Davidson do this interview, you're like, who hurt you? Which influencer hurt you? It's like Kim. Kim. You know what? And we've all been there. You know, in his defense, baby, he really got his heart broken by Kim. He's just been wanting to drag influencers publicly ever since, but it was a tough lesson, tough watch. Yeah. Well, he's been dragged all over the internet. And frightfully so honestly, I thought he would know better. But here we are. Yeah. Well, you know, okay. Well, moving on to a movie that's coming out tomorrow. I'll just tell you guys a little bit about it, the social reckoning. This is a movie about, it's sort of the follow up to the social network, Aaron Sorkin directed it. Sorry, Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg. And I mean, the movie, maybe, I'll tell you about the movie, and I'll tell you about it by going to the premiere because I just want to make you laugh. But the movie made me kind of sad. It's about social media and how it's been weaponized against us and weaponized against our stream of consciousness and our values and how Facebook, Meta and General has propped up all this really inflammatory content. They put a lot of money behind pushing that out to people and they connect it to the insurrection and people be really radicalized. And honestly, I found it to be like almost, I thought it was an interesting watch and really well-acted but a hard watch. And it comes out tomorrow. I recommended it. It's just, it's a sad watch. It's just, it's a sad view of what social media has done to our lives and done to really it and anger people and anyways, I do recommend it. But I wanted to tell you about going to the premiere because a couple funny things happened. You and I have been to these movie previous before and basically it'll be like, you know, there's a red carpet open for like not the cast from like four to five and then the cast is on the red carpet from five to six and then the movie will start at six and usually the cast will come out and talk to you. So it was like pouring down rain. I was like, I just got to get there a little early. So I get there like four, 15, 430 and I'm with our friend Alana, who's our publicist. And I walked through a carpet. It was like a really nice experience, whatever. But then you kind of, it's like a hurry up and wait situation because you have to get off the carpet and wait for everybody else to walk before they start the movie. And it was pouring down rain and it was like 430 and I was like, we've 90 minutes. Like, I can't leave this theater. So we went to the bar at the regal, which like how big of a piece of garbage do you have to be? To a bar and a movie theater? Well, it's 20 days to that because like, when we went to Verity, like I got a glass of wine and every time we go to that bar, the one of them at the process a little better than the one of the Marina. Like we kind of like, like Shoshank likes the beer selection. I got a Kim Crawford. Oh, yeah. Imagine going there ahead of time to sit at the bar for 90 minutes, like literally just fix your eight. You know, the bar for 90 minutes. We're there for 90 seconds. Hopefully. Exactly. A lot of them are sitting there. I'm in like, a really tight, nice outfit that I can't sit or breathe in. Yeah. A fit. These are funny because like most people wear what you'd wear to a movie, which is sweats, but the people who walk where I carpet, like you get dressed up. So anyways, I'm there. Then they decide to not start the movie until almost 6.45. So at this point, I'm at the bar for two hours. I'm pretty drunk by the time this movie starts. We go in. I'm sitting there. Julia Fox sits behind me, who's like, she's written one of my favorite books of all time. I'm such a fan of hers. I'm like, be cool around Julia Fox. I'm watching the movie. And towards the end, they are interspersing clips of this trial with Mark Zuckerberg with video footage of the insurrection, which was pretty violent and pretty graphic. And I became hysterical, actually, like involuntary, like tears are pouring down my face. 'Cause I'm a little drunk and also it is just upsetting content. It's just 10 years of trauma pouring out of you. It was really, like in one moment, you know. I mean, my little like, Alston Olivia fit. I'm crying. I'm drunk. And then Julia Fox is watching me cry. And then the movie ends whatever. The cast has to leave the same way that you have to leave the outside of the theater. So they come out. Aaron Sorkin is standing like outside of the theater. And I see him and all I can muster it with my glassy eyes and my tear-filled face is your work is really important. I love that though. Oh my God, he was like, this bitch was sobbing and then she really met a lot to her. I was just like, I gotta say something. And he was like, thanks, tears all over your face. But yeah, it was a nice, fun experience. I drank a little too much. You're not supposed to really drink that much before a movie. We're not supposed to wait for 90 minutes for a movie to star. That's the thing with these premieres. That's the worst part. Yeah. If you want to walk that carpet, you got some time to fill. Yeah, you got some time to kill. I was like, why don't I bring an outfit? Why did I bring something? Anyways, that's my story. Okay. Well, yeah, I don't know. I think that movie's really going to affect me. I'm kind of in a weird head space right now. I'm dealing with some stress in my life. So maybe I'll just wait on that one. I'm going to put a little more sober and in sweat pants. But yeah. Okay. Well, you guys check that out. So we're just going to get into our headlines for you. So this is a headline I would have never seen coming. This woman named Krista Pike, who was the only woman on death row, I believe, in Tennessee. She was only going to be like the 26th woman, I think, executed even in the country. I mean, this just doesn't happen a lot. I mean, a lot of states aren't using the death penalty, especially like women. You just really don't see it. So there were two failed attempts to execute her via lethal injection in Tennessee. And she's currently hospitalized. By the way, what this woman did was horrible, like she killed the other woman, it was really sick. I had never heard of her before. And then I looked into it. She had a trouble past herself. She had been assaulted, all these different things. But she did kill this woman in a horrific way when she was 18 or 19 and she's been on death row since 1994. Yes. She's just like in this hospital. Do they try again? And I need to know what happened between the first and the second one. What happened to me? We're just going to try again tomorrow. Now we know what's happened after this second one. But what happened between the first and the second one? And what is the legal ramifications for something like this? It's so crazy to me. But like, I don't know, the legal ramifications for what not being able to kill her or having to kill her three times. Because now this turns into cruel and unusual punishment territory. You know, like, there's all these different aspects of this. But it's like, could you, you can't put on trial again to give her the death penalty, like, don't you to follow her sentencing? I really don't know. I actually, like, don't understand how anybody can even be on death row for 32 years. Like, that's also like, is this what we're doing taxpayer money? We keep people on death row for 32 years? I just have so many more questions. Well, there's a lot of cases you'd be retrying. I mean, it's really bad when you execute an innocent person. So I saw a comment that it was because Christopher is a redhead. So I looked into that and I was out with two guys this past weekend who are married to redheads. And we weren't talking about Rob's, one of them natural, Allison's natural redhead, like when she was a kid, you could see. And then this other guy, one of his business partners. And I was talking about this and I was like, guys, I saw this conspiracy theory that she was harder to lethally inject because she's a redhead. And they were like 100% of thing, 100% of thing. And so I looked it up. And natural redheads may require up to 20% more general anesthesia or higher doses of certain anesthetics compared to people with other hair colors. So they are wilder. It is a thing. No, it's like an orange cat. Orange cats are just fucking insane. Yes, but it's such a thing. So I didn't know this. I guess people always have a crazy redhead stereotype. But I saw this and looked into it. And of course, they're not saying that's it. By the way, I don't want to perpetuate this conspiracy. They're saying all sorts of reasons why it didn't work. And then I also heard something that the companies that make these drugs really don't want to make them anymore. So they're not what they used to be. I don't know. I've heard various things and see various things. I mean, you're probably pretty liable if you're making these types of drugs. But I just think the redhead thing is wild. So redheads fire up into those comments, no pun intended. And let us know if you like even something like Tylenol, maybe you need more like any sort of sedative or painkiller. Isn't that crazy? I mean, if somebody was going to survive this, it was going to be a woman. And it was going to be a redhead. Like it was going to be Christa Pike. Like KFC did a video. It was like, this is the devil. This is the devil incarnate. Like this is crazy. It's crazy. This woman who did this heinous crime and you can't kill her wild. It's insane. All right. Well, stay tuned for the third attempt. You guys will be covering this developing story. I'm just I'm just curious of like our legal system. Like, where does it go from here? Is she in a coma? It's really like under wraps. I thought she was in a coma. All right. Well, okay. Well, speaking to somebody who did actually die is Ken Erker. And this was Gypsy Rose's fancy. They were estranged. I think they were separated, right? So when they were not living together, I was a little confused about this. So he is the father of her child, right? But they were not living together. So I don't think that they were together. Okay. So Gypsy Rose Blanchard, we all know the father of her daughter died on his 34th birthday. And Raina, I just I hear you saying Ken Erker in my head because we have this clip and the way that Raina says Ken Erker, Erker. I know. I the only reason I know his name is because of that clip. We did this whole clip where we said she should be the next skimmed model. Remember that people really feel like that. We're like, go off mama. You're coming. But it was just so this is sad. Like they have a child together. Gypsy's been through a lot. It sounds like he was had a lot of demons. But the TikToks about it were one of the most times where I was like, I'm going to hell. Like people were using patient zero audio. No, units. I stitched this on my TikTok. I feel like I have a blind spot for Gypsy Rose. I just I'm not in the culture of the way other people are. Like I knew you can take this one. I just I'm not like you and Ken. I just this is like a real blind spot for me. Like I can't I can't get it through my brain. Okay. So here's this I stitch this because I was like this is it's it is fucked up. It is for the comment section was like we're all going to hell and like I screamed and I laughed and I feel bad. But you didn't see this? Okay. So and it says Gypsy Rose's mom seen Ken arrive. It's a lot of bodies around one person. That's not came out at the right time. Yeah. History would show that she is no stranger to getting rid of someone in her life that may have been a negative force. So people think that he that she killed him. Yeah. Yeah. That's the whole thing that we were talking about. Okay. But like people really think it like people I was going to let you take this one. I prepped for these episodes very hard. But I was like Gypsy Rose is just this is her. This is Ashley's lane. No. This is sad. This is a father of her children. Like who's to say? But it's just like I don't know. You know, like I just think that's kind of what people are saying. But now I think people took it too far like they always do. And she has launched an anti-bullying campaign. So Gypsy Rose blanchored herself. So it says before his passing Ken experienced an overwhelming amount of online scrutiny and what we believe crossed the line into targeted harassment and bullying. So she's basically maybe saying that that played a part into his passing. I thought it was more like stop making these tick-tocks you guys. But I thought it was don't bully me so much. That's why it's more about Ken. I guess Ken was was bullied. But I do think this also falls in the camp of like you guys got to stop saying I killed my husband. Like this has to stop. So anyway, yeah. People take it too far, you know. But RIP to cast ever we take it just far enough. Okay. Well next up bachelor producers have sent a cease and desist to Chris Harrison former host of the bachelor for his new dating show The Val. Let me reach the tagline for the show The Val. The bachelor, the women, the drama. It says the bachelor in it. Stop. There's also falling rose petals. A man in a suit holding a rose. And they were like, what are you doing? What are you doing? Connect these things. How could you? They're never going to know. Chris, they're going to know. No, you said it's time to put all of this out to pasture. Like we have got to stop. Like if we are not getting Taylor Frankie Paul's season the bachelor at this franchise has to end. I know we're not even talking about this franchise. We're talking about Chris Harrison's new show. None of the people don't want this. This format getting married. Like it's just like people don't care about anymore. The premise of this on Fox Nation is 130 year old bachelor, 10 women, elimination style dating. There's an emphasis on faith marriage and long term commitment. I mean like this is so ridiculous. Yes. Can we just be done with this already? We need Fox basically said to the bachelor you don't own roses and we can do roses if we want to do roses. What the Val said that? The Val. Fox a Val. The Val was like ABC doesn't own roses. We could do whatever we want. But I mean it's you guys couldn't come up with like any new concept. You were like we're just going to do the same concept. Maybe they're not going to notice. Never going to know. I can't wait to see how this plays out. Okay. So lastly we just wanted to give an update on the Cornell case we spoke about at length last week. A lot more has happened. There are more alleged screenshots, phone calls, all just really horrific stuff. But the positive news is that New York governor Kathy Hocal named Latisha James as the special prosecutor in this Cornell case. So took off the prosecutor who was doing a terrible job and was like leave this to the women. And that's what I love to see. We'll take it from here. Guys we'll take it from here. And let's let women prosecute every rape case going forward. That's what I would like to advocate for. And so Latisha James has a long history with going after Trump and his fraud for years. And so obviously he had something to say. He said he felt bad for these Cornell rapists. I think because of this. I think it was in response to this because that's like one of his archnemesis. I'm not defending it. He obviously does feel bad for them like birds of a feather. But he responded to that and he's pissed about that. And so we love to see it. And let's let the women cook on this one. Yeah. Good luck to her. Yeah. We love her. Okay. Guys, well, this is your snack. Girls got to eat.com. Girls got a podcast on Instagram and TikTok.
