The Snack: Madonna, Patient Zero, Cornell 7, and the Best TV Shows of All Time

This episode blends entertainment, personal reflection, and cultural commentary, centering on recent music and TV developments. Madonna's electrifying VMAs performance, where she won multiple awards and delivered bold, unapologetic monologues, reignited conversations about legacy and artistic freedom. The VMAs themselves were criticized for being outdated and overly nostalgic, yet praised for their historical significance and mixing of old and new talent. A controversial choreography award for a dystopian music video featuring all-male performers sparked strong reactions due to its resemblance to fraternity culture, highlighting how media can trigger emotional or societal discomfort. Taylor Swift’s new music, particularly the song "Patient Zero," was celebrated for its narrative depth and emotional honesty, while "Cleveland" drew intense fan backlash for its campy tone. The New York Times’ list of the 100 best TV shows of the century included genre-defining hits like *Mad Men*, *Breaking Bad*, and *Sex in the City*, with the latter cited as a transformative show for women’s representation. The hosts shared personal favorites, emphasizing how media shapes identity and experience. They also spotlighted a resurgence in romance and reality TV, with shows like *Love Hypothesis* and *Best of the Best* praised for their authenticity and cultural relevance. Wellness and lifestyle brands such as Lululemon and I Amate were promoted for their practicality and comfort. Throughout, the episode balances humor, critique, and personal connection to media, reflecting a deeper appreciation for how entertainment influences our lives.

(upbeat music) - This week on the SAC, patient zero, Madonna, and the best TV shows of the century. This is a Dermedia production. Enjoy. (upbeat music) - Hi guys. - Hi guys, it's a spooky season. October first, woo-hoo-hoo-hoo. (laughing) - The Dekorations are starting to come out. - No, you didn't go, woo-hoo. - The decorations are starting to come out in the West Village, and I'm excited. They do some crazy shit. The rich people in the West Village do some crazy shit on their stoops. I'm excited. - I yeah. I love it. I mean, we've said this for years. People just need to find joy however they can, and if that means insanely extra Halloween Dekor, I. And for the spookiest thing I'll be doing this month is moving. - That is scary. - That's very scary. (laughing) God help me. - I am excited. I've shows all month, which I haven't really been performing or shows all month, and you sent me flowers. So if you guys are watching on the YouTube, above my right shoulder, I've sent me flowers, and I was like, what did I even do to deserve this? And your card was so fun. You managed to roast a bunch of people in the card and compliment me, and tell me you love me. I was like, oh my God, it's so fun. - Yes, it was flowers for just you being such a great friend, to me, and to Delayed House Warming, and fuck these bitches. - Yeah, and fuck these bitches. - Yeah, if you guys wanna see me, and then see me with Ashley, you can go to my tour page. Are you saying what shows you're coming to now? - I don't know what you're doing, but we have a show. We have a show, we're coming out of her time. (laughing) We are so excited. We're gonna just do the New York comedy fest, which I don't think we've really done together ever. We've always probably been on our own tour, not that we haven't wanted to. So we're really excited to be involved in it. We are going to be doing a show on Sunday, November 7th. I love a Sunday show at the Stand West, which of course, the Stand, that is our comedy club that Ray and I both have performed, perform at. We love it so much, and this is their West location. It used to be Chelsea Musical, which we've done a show at, and we just love this room. So we are really excited to do a show there. We will be doing Stand Up, we'll be on stage together. Of course, we're gonna have some friends, so people you've seen on the podcast, we're just gonna have such a fun night. This will be just such a fun comedy show, come alone, bring a date, bring the girlies, bring your family, and we will see there, get tickets there. Gonna go fast. - And you can get those at nycomedyfestival.com and we'll have it on our website, girlsgottae.com, as well. We're excited to see you guys there. - Yeah, and we'll do a link in bio, on Instagram, girlsgottae podcast is our Instagram, so no excuses to not be able to find it, but this is the first time we're announcing it. So grab those tickets, be before they go. I just think they are gonna go quick, and we can't wait to see you guys. I really have so excited. - Yeah, I haven't been on stage any in a long time. I'm like flying in. - Okay, we have a report, but can I just tell you something like just like on a side, thought that I, I don't think we've ever talked about this on this show, and I'm like, I think personally we talked about it, but I'm curious your feelings. - 'Cause I was scrolling and I saw Tyler Cameron, okay, let me back up. My greatest fear in the world is not like what other, speaking on stage or aging or spiders, it is the Jennifer Hudson spirit tunnel. - Yeah. - Have you seen the SNL sketch about this? - No, I just tried with one of my phone and Tyler Cameron was doing it, and I was, he did it with another guy, and I was like, that's the hack, you dance with another, if I had to do the Jennifer Hudson tunnel by myself, actually I wouldn't go on the show, I couldn't do it, you could do it, you're a great dancer. I, it's my greatest dream. It's my greatest dream, it's your biggest fear. Wait, wait, you got it, so Nikki Glazer, when she hosted SNL, they did a sketch about this. You didn't see that? - No. - So she said that's her biggest fear. So they did a sketch, and basically the sketch was like, the meds to take if you're gonna have to do it, they just made you like violently ill, so you could throw up and cancel, basically. And she claimed it was like one of her favorite skits or sketches that she came up with, and then shortly after she did it, so there was this full circle moment, and she did great, and she looked beautiful, but yeah, she looked great, I remember her doing it. - It's interesting, 'cause it feels so niche, like that sketch was so niche, but clearly it's a relatable thing because it's a fear of yours. Like I love that Nikki was like, I'm not the only person that could have this fear. Like this, no matter if you're famous or not, this could be someone's biggest fear, and it is my greatest dream. And all I do is watch these videos, and I am obsessed with what songs they pick, and I'm like, what song would they pick for me? I will sit and scroll these for hours. Like I never wanna miss one. Like throw a celebrity in me, I can tell you what they did down the spiritual tunnel. Like I was in Julia's styles. Julia's styles just crushed it. - She looked great. - Recently she did moves from Save Last Dance, and 10 things I hate about you. Like she'd been over to the hair flip. Like it just, I'm so obsessed with them. - I feel like you would like drop it down to the floor. I feel like you'd have your butt in the air, and like, oh, you'd be on all fours of your butt in the air. Like I was crawling on the spiritual tunnel. - You would, I mean, like I would need to be so drunk. I don't have it in me. I just, it is my greatest fear in the world. I was watching some like red carpet interview with Paige Desorbo, and she was saying that she had been asked recently to do that show, and thank God she had something else to do that day. She was like, I don't think I could do it. Like it is my greatest fear. Even if we did it together, like you, like Tyler Cameron like tangoed down the tunnel with somebody else, and I was like, that's the move. With somebody else, I could maybe stomach it. - There was someone who this actor that did it, and his dick looked so big they had to turn off comments. - Who was it? - No. - No, God, I'm gonna, I can't believe this. It was so accurate. It was just like, I can't even imagine what you're Googling to get to this. Who's dick was too big in the spirit tunnel? - Yes, okay. Yes. It was Aaron Pierre who played Mufasa in the Lion King. (laughing) - Dick. - You never think that's gonna be your problem in the spirit tunnel. I think your cock is too big for the tunnel. It was so funny, metaphors. - You can't fit, that dick can't fit in here. It was just really prominent, and they had to turn the comments off on that. That was my backpack, this is in 2024. So, come back and look that up if you guys care. - I'm glad I discussed this. And then we can, we can take our partners and get into it, but I'm glad that we have one more report. - One more report. Before we get into our official report, I have a quick sports report. Eagles lost last night, tough lost against the Bears. It was rough, but we'll get back into it. And I am going to a Dodgers game this Saturday. - It was, I just don't like baseball, but I want to go for the vibe. So, we haven't been to a Dodgers game, haven't been to Dodgers Stadium. Shashank really wants to go. So, it'll be the first playoff game. As this airs, we will probably know who they're playing, but right now we don't know. It's probably gonna be the fillies or the brave. So, it might be the, it might be the fills. So, we are going this Saturday, and that'll be like a fun little outing. - I thought it'd be fun. I've never been to Dodgers Stadium, it's far. - Yeah, well, I know, but we're gonna, we'll go have an early dinner at Neko Park and just be up there. And Saturday is better than trying to get there on a weeknight. I can't even imagine. - Oh, fuck now, absolutely not. The Steelers are also two and one now. They lost a game, they're playing on Thursday night. I'm not gonna be able to see it 'cause I'll be in Connecticut doing a show. You guys, if you're in Stanford, Connecticut, readagrever.com for my tour tickets. There, I got it in there. I'll see you guys tonight. Okay, let's take our partners and then we'll get into it. Thank you to Iamate, get a free welcome kit, five free travel sashays and 10% off your order at iamatehealth.com/gge and use code gge. - And thank you to Lululemon, get new styles from the fall collection and free returns at lululemon.com. Okay, so we are gonna kick it off with a music report, lots of music news, new music, the VMAs, all the things, Reina, watch the VMAs so you didn't have to. I did catch most of the highlights. I feel like I've watched enough to know that, well, to understand why the reviews for this year were not so great. - I mean, there was a mess. I couldn't believe that I was watching. I actually, you and I, we watch a lot of our word shows, but specifically we watch the music ones 'cause they're like fun to watch. I like the fashion, like the performances. First of all, I was trying to find it and I couldn't find it. And then I realized MTV was airing this on CBS, which made no fucking sense. It started 20 minutes late 'cause there was a football game they couldn't cut from and I'm trying to find it. I finally think I've found it and I see Madonna is performing and Snoop Dogg is hosting. And I swear to God, I texted like three people to check that like I didn't stumble upon like the VMAs greatest hits or something. Like why am I watching Madonna and Snoop Dogg? Like what year is this? - Okay, so they, I think they've always done this. But by the way, like, I have a lot to say. First of all, MTV VMAs on CBS Insane. What are we doing here? The VMAs themselves have been off and on for a while now. I mean, they were so iconic in our day. MTV hasn't played music in 20 years. Like if MTV's gonna do an award show, it should be for reality shows or vernicarlessness only 'cause that's all they play. Like, it just is not what it used to be. But I've always rooted for the VMAs. It's just so nostalgic and they have always brought together older artists from our day with newer artists. Like, they have always done that. What Ella Coolja used to host them. Like, I do like that they do that. I like that we could have Madonna and Snoop and then Young Lean, who's the first time hearing of him. Like, I like that whiplash and that chaos, blending new and old. But yeah, there was a lot. - There was a lot. - What year is this? - I don't mind it. - I was like, this has started 20 minutes late, I'm confused. I mean, then Charlie XC X came out and I was like, okay, so clearly this is current, but we're starting 20 minutes late. Yes, there was a lot of throwbacks. There was Nirvana, there was Adali Parton. - Yes. - Yes, yes, yes, yes. - Michael? tribute, which I was like, OK, what, why? I don't understand what's happening here. You guys don't have to DM me. I could look it up on the internet if I cared. There just was a lot of nostalgia. I mean, every category-- it was very women-heavy, which I do love to see. But I mean, most of the categories were like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carburner and Tate McCrye and then Madonna. And that was just like every single category. It felt disjointed from what I saw and what I read. I've read a ton of reviews about it. And people don't have very nice things to say. They're like, people are just saying this is cooked. And this is over and they've lost the plot. But Madonna was the talk of the night. I want to kick this off, I say, and Madonna's a legend. Full stop. She's 68. She's still making music. She's performing. I will always support a woman shattering societal norms of what they say women should be wearing, acting like doing. That's not who I'm going to want to emulate at nearly 70. But I respect it. And she is an icon and a legend. And she can do whatever the fuck she wants. She doesn't give a fuck. I know that's her vibe. I worry she's getting into a territory of like, OK, grandma, time for bed. She is not Mitch McConnell, but is she on her way? I just don't want her to tarnish her own legacy. But Madonna's going to do her. And she kind of always has been a little quirky and out of pocket. What she was doing in the '80s was ahead of its time in terms of how women should act. And so she's always blazed that trail. So I will always respect it. But I do feel like you're kind of like lady. I was, I was, I was sounding like I loved it or hated it. You have to love it. It's Madonna, but she just like swept all the categories. And every time she like staggered up on stage, she just busted out some like very random speech. And like everybody that she was with is like, what is she doing? Sabrina Carpenter was stunned. She just sat there and laughed. It was like very cute. She couldn't even talk. But Donna sang this whole story. Like I wanted to collaborate with Sabrina. And then she didn't respond to me for five days. And then I DMed her. And then she did. Sabrina Carpenter is standing there holding her up like, sure. And then Donna's like, let's go backstage. You get drunk. And then she like comes back out in Charlie XCX. And she did talk about like what dance has meant to her. And like how it's changed her life. Which is all these speeches really were like, let's wrap this shut off. She was just like, I'm Madonna. And I will stay here and speak as long as I want with my no pants on. I'm like, Leah Tard. And you're not going to stop me. It was my personal beep with Madonna is that that's the longest I've ever waited for an artist in a concert. I saw her in Atlanta three hours, three hours. So she came out. Yeah. And I mean, maybe she had something going on her life or maybe she's just that much of a diva. But you know, just let her cook. I mean, Sabrina is like, ma'am, I texted you back. Could you stop? Like what are we doing here? But yeah, so she won artists of the year and album of the year. I don't know what we're using. OK, so I did a poll on my Instagram. I said, no shades for research purposes only. I asked, did you know Madonna put out a new album this year? As of this point, it's not fully expired yet. 5,000 people have responded. 500 said yes. What? How did 500 people find out about this? So yes, 4,500 people said no. And can I just say, right? I did know she had new music because Cody Riggs be played a new Madonna song in a Peloton class. And I sort of clocked it. But I was like, Madonna put out a single. Like there's no way Madonna has a new album in the year of our Lord 2026. It's like this. I was watching that like, am I so behind the times? Like, how would I not know about this? But clearly, like, I want to know how those 500 people found out about it. Because I am -- Pat, Cody. You and I spent a lot of time on -- we're the most chronically online people that I know is our job. And like, that includes music news. Yes, like, Madonna is a gay icon, just a queer ally. Like, maybe that is more of the community that keeps tabs on her. I am a fan of Madonna in the '80s, almost exclusively. If not even really the '90s, this is music subjective, whatever. I like her '80s stuff. Look up her discography. That's kind of '89 is when she kind of lost me. But I just -- what I thought we would have heard a single from it. But the album is basically one long continuous house trans album. This is maybe a '68 trans album. Like, it is just like a DJ set. It's just meant to go dance and vibe. There's not like a single. I don't think that really would have even gotten, quote, unquote, radio play, Spotify, today's hottest hits. So that's really what's going on with her. But I just think people are like, hey, no shade. She's a legend. But was this deserving of all these wins? Yeah. A little off. Surprising to me. I mean, I guess, give somebody also a moment in the spotlight, besides Sabrina Carpenter and Charlie X. Yaxx and Taylor Swift and Kate McCrye. I guess. But like, could it be somebody else besides Madonna that put out the music this year? And then there was controversy surrounding another award, which was Best Choreography, which Madonna also won for her Confessions 2. Also Confessions 2, this is Usher. Like what in the Usher? Like Confessions Part 2? Like Confessions 2. That's the album. And then there's a 13-minute short film video that that's what won Best Choreography over Generation and Young Lean for Storm 2, which they performed on stage. Pretty much mimicked the music video that went viral. And this music video was basically set in this dystopian British boarding school in the year 2034, Young Lean, plays an aggressive intimidating bully orchestrating a student rebellion. And it's insane choreography of these guys, all kind of all in this like bleacher type thing, directed by this renowned filmmaker. And they really did replicate it as best they could at the VMAs and people went crazy for it. It's brilliant. It's captivating for sure. I was a little torn about it, I mean, it was one of the coolest performances I've ever seen. Like on television, it is like over 100 men in the same like blazers and just the transitions between black and white clothing and the way they moved in unison. I mean, it is truly like a feat to behold. I felt like I wonder if in the sort of wake of the Cornell 7 and all that's happening, like, do people feel a little triggered by this? And I don't ever want to be the kind of person. It's like, there can't be anything that comes in front of my eyes. That doesn't, that never that bothers me. But I don't know what they would have done besides this. I did have like an immediate pit in my stomach because it looked like a fraternity. And right as we're consuming all of this and which we'll talk about later in the episode, to see these like fraternity prep school guys, it was an immediate trigger. But that is not to say that they shouldn't have done it or it's insensitive, but you know, we're not about that. Like, I'm never going to go down that road. It's insensitive. This was brilliant and it should have won the award, but in this climate, it felt triggering. And that's just sharing how I felt and what we're curious if anyone else had that feeling. It's a sad thought to have that you look at that and you're like, is that looks like the Kai-Fi pledge class that we're talking about. You know, like, it felt kind of sick, but it's not like in this landscape, how could you? I'm not saying that. It was just like, we're curious if anyone else felt like that. And I told you, it reminded me of M&M's 2000's VMA Slim Shady performance where all the guys dressed like him came out and that was this iconic thing, probably again, like a hundred dudes. And I told you, I was like, crazy that a bunch of guys dressed in what we used to call wife beaters and sweats look less likely to rape you than these guys entice. But we will get to that. Well, it just, it reminds me of the people that do get away with this stuff. That's what those new forms remind me of and, you know, you and I, I don't subscribe to like, this was not tone deaf. It wasn't like a room kind of moment. It was like a truly brilliant performance. I just had a feeling about it. That's all just, yeah, it triggered an emotion for me, but other than that, it was really brilliant. Yes. And just as brilliant in my opinion is the patient zero video. Right? Love it. I love it. Oh my god. I love the song. I love the video. Are you kidding me? This video, like, I'm still thinking about it. Like, I heard patient zero. I was like, I fucking love the song. It's been in my head ever since. And then I knew that there was this short film coming with Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. I thought the song was about a fuck boy. It's about a man who was killing his rich wives. Okay. Let's rest rewind. So she put out four new songs called The Encore on Friday last week. Okay. And I want to talk about the songs and then I want to talk about the video. Oh, you want to do a song service? Okay. Fine. I had a good transition there because they did premiere the video with the VMAs. But it's fine. You know. Well, I want to have one of these feelings about the music. Okay. It takes me like five or six lessons to satisfy like something. Okay. People hated this. I mean, I think people just like to have a negative take on things. I think people like to have a hot take and that's typically a negative take on things. People real swepties were like, I hate this. This is tired. It's just like, I wrote down some words that I saw that people used to describe it. And then I'm going to, I'm going to say something that might surprise all of you. Preoccupied with her critics, repetitive, thin. I like it flame for this. I liked them. I liked the songs. I thought Cleveland was kind of a bop and I, the messaging I will get into, but I enjoyed these songs. I liked patient zero. I like Babylon. What was the other song? Pink. Pink clouding. Pink clouding. I just don't, I really have any thoughts about it. It's not for me. But like, I actually enjoyed these songs. I was on a road trip. I liked listening to them in the car. Yeah. I liked the messaging of patient zero, which is the music video is a bit of a departure. like the messaging is just like, you know, I'm the first person. And if you dated him after me, like, I get you girl. I see what he's like under this veil of everything. Cleveland, I mean, I have fun listening to it. I think that she's okay. I like the Taylor Swift to acknowledge that people make fun of her. I like that. I think we're doing it a little too much. She's like, if people think I dress stupid and that I'm not hot enough for him or young enough for him, but that's my man. I don't think you need to keep defending this. I think it's enough, and it's almost reminded me of what influencers are behind all the glitz and glam with a real person. And it's not all beautiful all the time. And the first time you hear somebody say that, it's really refreshing. You're like, thank you for acknowledging that it's not like this. But I feel like I've heard her acknowledge in her music over and over again. Everybody hates me. Everybody thinks I'm cringed. But my man's obsessed with me. I just feel like it's like enough. We get it. We've heard it. That's kind of always been her saying, though, like reputation, she is kind of always paid a lot of attention to the haters. In terms of Cleveland, I wrote on Threads, obsessed with Taylor Swift putting out a song dedicated to the haters that she knew they would viscerally hate. That song was designed for the haters to hate at a high level. I love Patient Zero. Like I just said, I really like pink clouding. Babylon, to me, is fine. It's forgettable. I feel like I've heard it before. Cleveland feels like a joke. It feels like trolling. I don't actively hate it, but I am laughing at it. I've also seen commentary that without Cleveland, people would have been fine with this. The other three are fine songs. I mean, I think they're good songs, especially Patient Zero. I think they sound like her, older her, newer her, like a blend of the two. Cleveland is what really triggered people. But it's like, I don't know, it's the silly little campy song. If you hate it, you can just skip it. But people like, live to hate her. It's really bizarre. It's people that call themselves her fans. Like, this is where I get defensive her. Because I hate nothing more than people that call themselves fans. And they're like your biggest critics, like the weirdest way. And they hold her to such impossible standards. And I know that Taylor Swift has these albums where she's like this poetic songwriting genius. But she also has songs like, we are never ever ever getting back together and shake it off. Let's not forget about me, Reyna me with Brendan Uri. The lyrics said, spelling is fun. You can't spell awesome without me. Like, she has always done this shit. She has oscillated between this profound songwriter and a silly little pop girlie. Like, her whole thing is eras. And she's going in and out of them. And so it's so crazy when people flame a silly little song. Like, I get the critique that she's just paying too much attention to her haters. But I'm just like, I don't know. She has done this before. This is not such a departure from her silly little campy songs that she's put out before. I just, I liked it. I don't know. I don't think everything, like the messaging and patience you're on Babylon are so heavy. And you really have to listen to the lyrics to like understand what it's about. And like, I listen to these songs over and over and over again on this car ride. So just like understand what they were about. Cleveland, it's just straight forward. Sometimes I don't want to think that hard. You know, sometimes I just want like a bot. It kind of sounds like a marching band. It's funny. She's like, he took me to Cleveland. He showed me the heights. I met his parents. Hey, he likes going down on my pussy. Like, I just thought it was funny. I know. I really am just like, would it guys please? Like, people are just obsessed. Like, think these is like all this stuff. And it's like, she's done this before. That's her. That's old Taylor. We went old Taylor back. That is old Taylor. She has always been both. And so just let her cook. And I just again, love Patience Error so much. And I started reviewing too soon, but I love the video. No, I just, I love the plot twist. I really loved it. I loved every scene. I loved all of the imagery. I think it was so insane. I didn't expect the end. Really, she was a ghost the whole time. Like, I've chills. So she has been in 60 music videos. She's directed 18. She writes every single frame, every single shot. It's pretty impressive. And I don't know that I've really seen a music video like this. That it's a short film almost like about, I mean, he's like slowly poisoning her. Like much house in like, and you find out that she's dead. And to go to Johnson, they're wearing the same outfits the whole time. And I just, it was, it's really interesting. It's really different. I've thought it was brilliant. I loved it. And she did win this award. She won the inaugural artist director honors, which people are saying that that was made for her and her team. Pressured them to create that award. But they be doing that stuff. They always have done that stuff. They come up with these new awards. They give them to somebody or like, you just wanted to give that person an award this year. So whatever you think about it, I don't know. I mean, the Taylor Swift pressure of the VMAs to make an award for her. I don't know if she did. That's weird. But no one else showed up for this thing. Who the fuck else showed up for this entire award show? The most, and no shade to her, because I love her. Lisa Rena was like the most famous person on the carpet besides Taylor Swift. She boozy was there. She was here. Great. I love that. I love to see no one else showed up for this thing. That's fair. That's fair. The Taylor Swift VMA awards. They're doing whatever she wants. Well, Madonna was there. That was interesting. You know what I gotta say? Madonna is the VMAs though. Madonna. What she posted, did she post that she was hit the stage for the first time 42 years ago? I thought she said 48, but what, whichever it was 42, which makes sense. It was first VMAs. Oh my gosh. Anyway. Okay. Well, that's your VMA update and Taylor Swift update and, you know, I just, I find it interesting. The people make their entire existence to hate on her and you, I have my critiques of her too. I wish she would speak out more about things happening in this country and around the world, but we could do a lot worse with female role models. And I still think she is a female artist that is a role model to your daughters and who is someone that can be looked up to and is not offensive. And I feel like the hate makes me want to defend her even more because it's insane. You people are insane. I was trying to find any other, like, people, like, hated it. And I was just like, I don't, also, like, you know me and you just, it's just not that deep to me. I don't want to be like, it's just not that deep is just music. Music means a lot to a lot of people. Music artists mean a lot to me. Music means a lot to me. It's changed my life many times. But this is not that deep. I thought Cleveland was just like kind of a fun bomb. People were so mad. But when she makes things too cerebral and too heavy, people don't like that either. They critiques that too. Yeah. Like just, I don't know. Let her do her thing. I saw this one thread that says, why does Taylor Swift keep making songs about her life and her man instead of about me and what I want her to sing about? And that's the exact answer she got. God, these people suck, yeah, but Cleveland's stupid, whatever she knows is trolling. It's called Cleveland. I saw a meme. It said like the, but the community board of Cleveland's having an emergency meeting right now. Oh, I thought you were going to say it's a recession indicator that she's writing songs about Cleveland and Florida. What do you see? Like Paris and London. And we work it out. Cleveland and Florida exclamation point. Let's just talk about our partners and then we will get back into it. I am telling you guys about Lululemon, always so excited to talk about Lululemon. So the New York Times put out this list of the top 100 TV shows of the 21st century. And they worked with stars, actors, showrunners, they worked with all these people to create this list. They really put a lot of time and effort into it. Yeah, 500 people, it wasn't just like, here's what we think. I listened to the episode in the daily about this. I found it really fascinating. So they put a lot of time and energy into this. And just immediately when they put this list out of these 100 shows, people like, where's the sopranos? Like immediately where's sex in the city? So I realized that I did also confirm that they had to start at 2000 or later. So shows that started in the '90s didn't make the cut. So primarily because the sopranos, sex in the city, Seinfeld, friends, didn't make the cut and people were all up in arms. But that was the criteria. So before we get into it, I mean, we just wanted to say that. And I listened to this podcast episode. I haven't fully finished yet. It's like an hour. And it's really interesting. They break down a lot of the comedies. And like early in the episode, they're talking about the joke density of 30 rock. And how it's almost hard to even keep up versus curb where it's this one long, relatable bit drawn out for an entire episode. I just find these things really fascinating. I mean, I'm obsessed with TV. I think TV's better than ever. We're so lucky to live in this era of TV. And they really broke all this down. It was fun going through this last. I just, you know, it's like a lot of nostalgia for me. And also thinking like what the criteria is for the best show? Like, is it the best show because it transcends time and it transcends generations? Or is it the thing that you go back to time and time again? Yeah. To me, the stuff that like I watch on repeat are not necessarily the greatest. Like, girls are something that I'll put on my TV because I just like to watch it in the background. But I wouldn't say it's, I wouldn't put it in the my top 20 greatest TV shows of all time reality shows. Like, there are some things that launched a genre, which we created our top 10. And I'm all talking about reality shows. But there are things like top chef, for example, that were like ground zero for cooking competition shows. And I was curious, like, why more stuff like that wasn't included as well. And you listen to the episode, did they say? Or it just, it wasn't reality TV at all. And that was that. I don't think there was any reality on the list. Um, it's, and I didn't again finish the whole episode. I'm curious to because you're right. What makes something impactful or things that start, like you said, a whole genre? I mean, they can't be ignored. So I mean, they had their set of criteria. And again, like, most of your faves are on here. Most of the shows, the best shows of all time, like a breaking bad and madmen and Game of Thrones and deep and hacks and the bear and like all those shows are on the list. I mean, the main ones missing that I felt were from the 90s or started in the 90s. But I guess it was tough because it was still, they were still very much new in the 2002. So, you know, that was the only thing I felt was lacking. But you're, you're so right. I mean, there's so many different benchmarks. You can measure a good show on. For me, my top, or just how they make me feel, like the ones I still remember, not necessarily that I would go back to and rewatch some of them are, of course. But just how much I love them, even if I can't fully explain it or put it up against another show and explain why it's better. This is my opinions. I mean, some of these to me, they just like they defined a genre, they defined a generation like sex in the city. I refused to not have it on my list. I refused to not. It defined women growing up. And it may be a little dated at this point, but like it broke every single barrier for women talking about sex and pleasure that existed at the time. So does it stand the test of time? I don't know. I mean, like my favorite show of all time is the superannos. And I think that it transcends time. Like, and I always say, like, because there wasn't a lot of like, I mean, the mafia isn't using cell phones and the internet and emails. So it feels current today, even though it is a 30 year old show at this point. And I think it transcends time. I think that the way that they incorporated different characters into it was brilliant. I mean, I they never had like a slump season to me. I mean, we'll do our episodes. But to me, like the superannos is the height of like, acting cinematography, direction, character development, plot that like made sense that like was carried out in the fullest. I kind of get into it. I got to start that one. I mean, sex in the city is my favorite show by every measure that I could rewatch it over and over and over again that it was so empowering for women that it comes in a play in what I've done with my life, that it changed my life. It inspired me that it was so incredible. So ahead of its time, literally, all the things. It hits every single mark for me. And so that's my number one. And the rest are just kind of, they're in no particular order. I feel like I couldn't really rank them. My top four are the top four, but everything else, no particular order. Okay, give me your last. Okay, top 10 favorite shows of all time. Ashley Hussletine. Number one, sex in the city, and the rest are in no particular order. Curve your enthusiasm, the bear, packs, girls, Queen's Gambit. I will never forget. When that show ended, it was during quarantine. I was like, that's the most perfect show, limited series. I've ever seen in my life. Normal people, of course, homeland, home land. I would say until five in the morning watching home. Like I started it late, so I was binging it, insecure, and the bold type. That's probably my like deepest cut that was. It's so mainstream. I loved it so, so much. I have a few honorable mentions. I just have to. No, I didn't. You're probably going to make fun of these, but I mean, scandal. It just didn't make my top 10, but it's scandals still up there for me. Sex lives of college girls. I absolutely loved off campus. And then I did just throw one reality. And that's love is blind. And it is my favorite reality show of all time. I watched every single season. It was so groundbreaking when it came out. And I really do still love it. And I didn't include any childhood shows that feels like a whole nother conversation. But all these shows also molded who we are. I mean, everything from full house, say with the bell, family matters, are you afraid of the dark, clear? So it explains it all. The only one that I felt like maybe transcended outside of the child category for me is my so-called life. And that really life changing for me. Yes. But I was a kid still. Yeah, I guess I didn't really understand Jordan Catalano back then. The original fuck boy. But I still think I could really watch that show and enjoy it. And I was like 11 when it came out of the little kid. But childhood shows, it's like I can't even go down there. There's so, so many that it's like hard to even touch. Like I kind of started with college for me, which was Sex and a City. Yeah, I mean, stuff that I could digest as an adult. Okay, I can't wait to hear yours. We only have three overlapping. Some of your your mentions. Okay, can I just say, you guys, I haven't seen a lot of these shows, like I happen. Like if you were like why wasn't the show in your list, I may not have seen it. And this is again, like I would never push my list on anyone else. It's very specific to me. Like I would never argue this list against someone else's. I haven't even seen the sopranos. But I don't like Amy Thrones. And I didn't really enjoy Breaking Bad. Like I started with I'm finishing it. But Game of Thrones is probably the show that of that people are obsessed with that I gave it a fair shot. And it's not for me. Oh, we should. Breaking Bad is the number one show on this entire list. We should have told you that. Sorry, guys. I started it. I watched two episodes. I just don't think. I mean, I would pick it back up. I didn't dislike it as much as Game of Thrones. I'll never watch that again. It's not for me. But okay. Okay, my top 10. My top four are the top four. They're my favorite shows of all time. And that is the office, the sopranos, madmen, and girls. Those are my top four favorite shows. The rest in no particular order. Herbianthusiasm, succession, sex in the city. Real housewives of New York. It launched. It launched a network. It launched a category. I mean, the original season of the like original real housewives. I mean, that is bravo. Shits Creek, which I think is some of the greatest characters ever in. And heated rivalry. Oh, shit. Okay. That is also your, I forgot about it. It should be on my list, too. This is so hard. It's hard. And then I have a lot of honorable mentions because like they just were so brilliant. Broad City. Broad City and arrested development to me are some of the greatest comedic writing that has ever existed. White Lotus. What they are able to do every season is so brilliant. Vanderpump Rules, you know, is my favorite reality show of all time. Real housewives of New York made the top 10 because they lost their real housewives. They walked. So Vanderpump could run, you know. White Lotus was tough for me. I do, you know how much I love White Lotus. And it feels like appointment television. But I just, I don't know. I'm not as obsessed. But I love the show. But it should be up there. And yes, he'd arrive a week at call. I have a couple more top chef. Which I also think like is really like grounds you for TV food competition shows and it was so ahead of its time People thought it was like really cringe at the beginning and now people would die to get on that show I mean it's made people's careers. I'm insecure. It's also on my list love is blind and you for a season one Okay, it's hard. I mean, I love you for you I thought it was so phenomenal, but they ruined the show for me, but I mean the first two seasons Great listen I put a lot of time into my list But just know that I will lay awake tonight thinking of the shows I forgot so just know that Wait, I don't need to be criticized in this. I'm gonna hate myself enough for all of us I will have so much regret But I did my best with the information I had the time I will pop up at four o'clock in the morning and think of a show I didn't have my list so just know it will haunt my dreams like I was so proud when I thought I've heated Rivalry. I was like that's so original. She's killing it But I had another thought yesterday and I don't remember what it was I will be upset about it later and you guys if you want in the comments give us your top 10 I'm so curious when you guys think and I just said we want to know give us your top 10 I mean you and I could do a hundred you know like really if I was presented with a list of all TV shows of all time Like I could really come up with my one hundred and I couldn't include all those MTV shows growing up I mean singled out singled out would be on there newlyweeds just could Nick I mean, I'm thinking about all the shows in the MTV spring break just as a show Stuff isn't a dog. I just you know, we had to we had to draw the line somewhere Ex that we had to draw the line. You're totally right. Yeah, but like gossip girl. Oh the OC I mean those were like to find my college experience like this It was just really hard to come up with but I think you know, we did our best. Are you a more girl? I forget no No, no, I feel like this is a thing when you like when you see Gigi. Are you a gossip girl or girl more girls? Yeah, we're gossip girls and I like corny stuff, but I was never about it Dawson's Creek. That was another childhood one, but I think that's a separate list I think child. I think the nostalgia. Yeah. Yes. Yes And if you guys are curious, these are the top 10 from the 100 best TV shows of the century from the New York Times breaking bad the wire madmen succession Fleabag Game of Thrones Veepe 30 rock Curb your enthusiasm and Atlanta and a lot of comedy in That list especially in the lower half of the top 10 and they discuss that on the episode of the daily two So if you guys are interested in this there's a whole podcast episode Listen to I'm going about to listen to the rest of it as I take my walk today. That's on that and we just have some more TV and movie news Yeah, if you guys look forward to Variety officially comes out tomorrow night. I just can't wait. It's calling Hoover. It's a thriller It's a real departure from the other type of genres she writes about it's starring Dakota Johnson who is by the way everywhere She is everywhere. She is on the cover of all. She's in perfect commercials. She is dating MGK She's in Taylor Swift's video. I mean she is the moment. I'm in halfway who's in everything obviously and Josh Hurtner Thank God, I've been missing him on my on the summer screen So I mean we'll review it next week. This is the third and half the way movie I will have seen in the theater this year You know also with with my husband we've been to the movies probably five or six times total in our whole relationship and three movies this year We saw double was proud of two Odyssey and this is crazy like I find that crazy I think it's crazy in any year even in the heyday of going to the movies that you would see one actor actress and one in the in three movies in a row No, I know and also I'm devastated that you're seeing this with him and not me. I like can't believe it I can't I mean obviously he wouldn't be included in this otherwise. I am devastated that we aren't going to this together I know I don't even know if like I don't even know who I want to go with. I feel like other people don't care about this as much as I do I think yeah, I think you'll find your community I mean people just it's it even if you haven't read the book which by the way This is my first calling who her book which was so wild just just like her book that stands out She sells publish it because it's so not her normal type of novel But we brought a group of girls to see the house made that hadn't read the book and they really enjoyed it So I think I really can't wait. I think it's gonna be incredible We have love is blind Boston finally October 14th and Love is gonna need to be blind with this cast. Um this Not the women all women are beautiful the men on this cast rate like coming off of love is blind UK the hottest cast I guess a real come down. I was like our other people feeling like this I'm scrolling. I'm waiting to find anybody as hot as the be keeper. What are we doing? the accents you guys I cannot wait for the accents coming out these people's bodies so I you know It's not as common as you would think it's hard it's hard to find like I hope they find some boss and accents It's not everybody running around the city the same with like a statin island New York accent You don't hear it that much in Manhattan and so it's like most of shashan's friends don't have that accent their parents do You just it's not as common as you would think and I hope they find some I just I do everybody's gonna want it But it's like I'm there a ton that's you don't hear it on the streets like you think you do It's not the town when you're walking around Boston proper and so I hope they find them I mean, you know we joke about Boston being the short-king capital of the country like are these guys all gonna be short-kigs from Southie. I just cannot wait to see it also I hope it I hope it is people from Boston proper like sometimes they do these shows and like Denver was not really people from Denver Danmers people all over Colorado and I hope that this is Southie boys. I'm looking for real Boston people I know that I mean that's Boston so many people do live like kind of outside the city of suburbs I mean people from like Cambridge or Worcester or different towns like that But I do hope it's like in the area Me too and just a few things I watched I watched love hypothesis which is a cute rom-com on Amazon It started kind of met and then we really ended up like it I watched it was Shashank. This is Lily Reinhart. Tom Bateman who was so sexy. I did not know of him He is very hot. She's a grad student. He's this ruthless professor. They start a fake relationship And I'm sure you can guess what happens next, but I found it really cute Like if you're looking for just a fun watch like I don't love every single rom-com You know what I felt about that JLo one. I feel like this is totally fun light watchable if you're looking for two hours to pass I can't believe we've been talked about this yet Lily Reinhart's wardrobe for the press tour for this movie is unbelievable So she had been wearing incredible. Oh, okay wearing dresses from other rom-coms throughout history I mean it is such a thing. She's never looked better. It is absolutely incredible. You guys should look this up I mean, it's just like it's a romance movie outfit tribute and she is wearing the gold dress from how to lose a guy in 10 days She is wearing Miss congeniality Oh my god, I saw the Miss congeniality LaJay dress. She is wearing uptown girls Britney Murphy's dress from uptown girls I mean this is one of the most incredible like press tour ideas. I have ever seen Every single dress is just like 10 out of 10. These are really nostalgic a tone minute Which I did not see suddenly 30 Jennifer garners outfit and then the final one is My date with the president's daughter from 1998. She just has all these like really iconic looks I mean, she has never looked better. This is a brilliant idea. I've been loving watching that I yeah, and I recommend this this movie. I just like I feel like I We are entering back into a good good age of rom-coms I've seen some ones that I've enjoyed. I hadn't talked about this in a snack But I watched the people we mean on vacation. I like that too. It didn't blow my mind But I enjoyed it and so I'm liking this because I feel like we went through a real period where they were Really bad and I feel like we've turned a corner So love hypothesis is good check it out and I love that you brought that up about the press tour I saw that miskin geniality thing and I didn't really told the clock what she was doing in its iconic and last night We watched best of the best so this is Pasin Manage was a writer on it and matri I'm gonna butcher her day by what I practice this last night I'm still gonna mess up. She was the main actress from never have I ever and this is a coming to age comedy movie about Two childhood best friends who joined UCLA's competitive Bollywood fusion dance team. So it's a dance movie and they're these two best friends who code UCLA And I loved it. I've heard her and Hassan have been doing this press tour. That's been so hilarious And they have this like big brother little sister energy and it's been so funny I've been like watching all the interviews. I just love them together and I like this. I love the cultural representation At the acting is great. It's a totally fresh storyline. This Bollywood dance team You know like in terms of like something that we really haven't seen before. I love the music Osama has a cameo of course. He shows up at the very end And it's just really cute. We really really liked it So I recommend that on Netflix best of the best. Okay. I don't know if I recommend this but I it has been pouring on rain here I'd love to house in like three days So I have recently gotten back into real housewives of New York. I mean, this is like season 16 People every year since the original cast was canned or just like what are we doing here? And they keep trying to add new people and I don't know I want to love it because it's like my city and it's just not really working I don't even know if like maybe a show like this just doesn't work in New York City anymore Like it should be about like a community of people that know each other that like maybe some of their kids go to school together And they used to have these women in the upper east side and even like Beverly Hills makes more sense to me because like those women sort of run in the same circles These women are so disparate in their ages. I mean, there's some new people on the season that are pretty cool Haley Glassman who was the mistress of John Goslin Oh, right. Oh my god. They have Erica Hammond who's married to the founder of built reward bill So I've met her. She's really nice. She also was I think I think one of the co-founders of Rumble Boxing, I really like her on the show, she is like of the entire cast, she's the person I like the most. She makes sense on the show. They have this girl Daisy on the show who is Martha Stewart's makeup artist and Martha Stewart makes an appearance on every episode for the first three episodes. It is hysterical. Like how did they get Martha on here? My biggest criticism of the show is that they recast Carol Radswell. I'm not age-shaming her at all, but Carol Radswell is 63 or 64 years old and half of this cast is in there. Most of them are all in their 30s. She is just, she's in a different generation as these people have a different phase of life and they casted her because love story was so big. The show love story about Carol and Beset and she was very good friends with Carol and Beset and she was married to JFK Juner's cousin and she wrote a book about it. Every scene she's just like kind of sour and doesn't want to talk about it. But that is why she was cast on the show was to talk about it. So it's weird that she takes this like tone. That's the only reason you're on the show. She gets really sour, I don't know, doesn't want to talk about it. It's like, I get it. I wouldn't want to talk about my friend dying in a horrific accent this tear, but I wouldn't be cast on a reality show about it. So I don't know. I try to push through. I don't, they're trying to do something. Maybe this show doesn't work in New York City anymore. I don't know. Now these people have anything to do with each other really. It's just like strangers kind of like drum and up drama with each other. So I'm trying you guys. I will watch it tonight. Just about four episodes, maybe all I can take. Well, maybe it doesn't deserve to be in your top 10. If you can't even watch it anymore, that was one of my criteria. One of my criteria was like, did I finish this show in fall? If it's not still on, which I don't think any of mine were. But like, did I give it up along the way? Because then it couldn't make the cut. That's a good call. Because walking dead, I was a big walking dead person, and I didn't finish it. Let me see what I'd just swap it with. I would be comfy. I would be comfy swapping it with white lotus. But it's hard for me to love white lotus because it's different every season. So it's like, who's to say? If I will like it. Let us camp in your top 10. You got to love it. Love it. All or nothing, you know? You've to be in the list. Before I was one of my favorite shows, and now it's my least favorite show, it couldn't make me feel good. Yeah, before you should have made your list either. We're going to redo the list. You know, you'll stay up tonight. You'll work on it. We'll touch base next week, you guys. OK, let's move on on a more serious note. So for headlines today, there's not too much going on that we feel like we need to cover. And the biggest headline right now is what's been happening with these Cornell rapists. And we just want to discuss that as our headline portion for today. Yeah, I mean, this is on my mind a lot. This is about an assault that happened in 2024 and the punishments that were and were not given out to these seven men and the 57 men that were on this group chat, advertising that there was a woman available for sex in this brat house. If you guys aren't familiar, she was assaulted for many hours by seven men. Two of the guys were expelled, correct me from wrong. The other five allegedly were subject to just sort of like administrative punishments of writing essays. All of these men's lives have sort of moved on. And it has sparked this greater discussion of-- this happens everywhere. This happens in corporations and jobs and schools all the way to the highest level of government in the White House. And this notion of we don't want to ruin these men's lives. And they're just kids. And women have to bear the brunt of it. And it's sickening. And any woman, anyone who's ever been in a school environment, a job environment has been subject to harassment, on even a small scale, can feel how terrible this is that we continuously look out for men and not ruining their lives. But the same kindness is not given to women. The burden of proof is given to women. And we ruin their lives constantly, time and time again, with out of thought. So it's obviously on our minds a lot. And it's very upsetting. Yeah, it has been on my mind on stop. I feel like I don't have the words to adequately speak about it, express the rage. I feel about it. And just the devastation that this is the country we live in, and that we've always lived in. And like Raina said, this is not an isolated incident. This happened two fucking years ago. And it is an extreme case. But versions of this happen all over the country at college campuses and elsewhere constantly. There's not a woman alive who doesn't know multiple women who have been assaulted by men, if not herself. And so I first of all, I just want to commend the bravery of Jane Doe, which obviously they're calling her. She just needs to be applauded and protected at all costs. I don't ever want to hear why don't women report ever again in my fucking life, because shit doesn't happen. I mean, whatever you want to do is up to you, but it's become so clear why women don't, because there are no consequences. A lot of the time. And I hope that this time will be different. And what New York state has reopened this case, basically, which is great to see because of public pressure, which is not how this should work. We shouldn't have to do this. We shouldn't have to have vigilante justice with this. But here we are, and ruin these men's lives forever. Ruin every single one of them. All seven of them, everyone who was complicit in this, put their names, their faces everywhere, get them fired for their jobs, get them never hired again, hold their families accountable. Ruin their lives. You rape someone your life should be ruined forever. And the thing I can't stop thinking about is this is Gen Z men. Like, this is supposed to be the consent generation. I was talking about this with my best friend, Corey, who was a high school teacher. And they are supposed to have been raised with a healthy fear after the Me Too movement. Whether they respect women or not, they don't. Whether they view them as equals, they don't. They should still be scared to rape someone. And I can't believe these men weren't more scared. Like, I can't believe one person wasn't like, hey, as much as I love free pussy and as much as I love to rape an unconscious woman, maybe we might get kicked out of school or not get jobs. Like, I can't believe there's not more fear. And the reason is because of who is president. Like, we have a convicted rapist. Someone who's been accused of rape, sexual assault, pedophilia, dozens of times. The person who said, I don't even wait. When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the pussy. Before he was elected the first time, I will never forgive anyone who voted for that. You knew and you voted for it anyway. And you're complicit in this rape culture. And the fact that the president is a convicted rapist because he told you who he was and you didn't care. And we haven't done anything about the Epstein files. Brett Kavanaugh is a Supreme Court justice. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is an accused rapist. Donald Trump nominated a sex trafficker. Matt Gaetz to be attorney general. Like, this is who we are now. This is what America is. And these boys have paid attention. When these Cornell rapists were 11, 12, and they saw an accused rapist. They saw Donald Trump say, you can grab them by the pussy. You can do whatever you want to women. And then he became president. And so for the next 10 years, they have been conditioned to think whatever you do. If you have the money, you have the resources, and you are white, or you have the right proximity to whiteness and power, you will not be punished for your wrongdoings. You can do whatever you want. And you can do especially whatever you want to women. And that is why they think they can get away with it. Of course it is. And I'm so angry because this is the most recognizable machine. And I don't think it should be around anymore. This machine says like protects his future. Question her account, destroy her life, but the burden of truth on her, manage the institution's image, whether that is politics, whether that's a school, whether that's a corporation, and only call it accountability once everybody is watching. And even when everybody is watching, there's no consequences. It is so maddening. It is so sickening for me, for every woman that I've ever watched have to go through this and whose lives were ruined. I just, I feel sick about it. And yes, ruin these men's lives, get them fired. Let's make an example out of every single one of them. Yes. And you know, this did exist before Trump became president. Like obviously, Brock Turner was during Obama. Like it's just gotten so much worse and so much more reinforced. I just don't think that we would see this happen. This insane thing we've seen happen. Seven men have gang raped a woman and gotten away with it and their college covered it up with a different administration. And I could be wrong, but it's just like it's gotten so horrific. And things are just so much worse than they should be in a post-MeToo world with this consent generation. And so there's so much more we could say and say so much about men and raising good men and all these things. Maybe we'll continue to talk about it. But you know, we're just getting started. And you know, I've seen a lot of different things about this that I just want to stay focused. I've seen language policing. I've seen don't call them the Cornell seven. Call it, you know, use active voice instead of past voice. Don't use the grape emoji. Say rape with your full chest and it's like people, there's various reasons why people may censor themselves depending on the app they're on, they're why they have, why they use the language they do. Like, I just don't want to lose the plot in this. If we are all on the same team and we really know, of course, this woman did nothing wrong, we want these men to burn in hell. Like, can we stop with this? I feel crazy. If it's like, it's like tension seeking and it like takes attention away from the point. Like, I know language is important, but like, I just, I feel like I'm starting, the language policing is really starting pissed me off. 'Cause like, that's not the point. And like, same team, same, this is why I see with the left, the infighting, same team, stay the course, ruin these men's lives. And this Cornell seven is at the website, the Cornell seven.org was started by Toby Morton, who word clown is his handle. He was a former writer in South Park and he is putting all their names and everything up on this, So you guys can check that out. But I mean, everybody has been talking about this and we will continue to follow this case, but that's, we love to see it.
