Have you overlooked up to somebody and really admire them for being a great leader, especially because they were so respected by their team members? And then you've wondered whether or not they contain some sort of secrets to being a great leader. Well, in this video, I'm going to share with you the secrets of how to become a great leader to have your team members respect you. And the framework that I'm going to share with you is a new framework that spells out the word leader, ledadr. You're listening to Career Revisionist, the podcast where ambitious professionals pursue mastery, breakthrough in visible ceilings, and accelerate into leadership. And now to guide you on the journey. Dr. Grace Lee, neuroscientist, executive mentor, and your trusted voice and career leadership. The letter L stands for Lead with Confidence and Gravitas. Confidence and Gravitas are not the same thing. Confidence has more to do with the way you perceive yourself. If you perceive yourself as confident, if you perceive yourself as a leader, if you perceive yourself as able to overcome challenges, that is how you will be able to execute yourself. That is how you will what you will demonstrate. And you perceive yourself as shy and introverted. If you perceive yourself as less than other people, that is also how you will show up. So how you perceive yourself has a lot to do and a lot of influence on how you show up. On the other hand, Gravitas has more to do with how others perceive you. If others perceive you as a thought leader, if others perceive you as a confident person, if others perceive you as a trustworthy and a critical finger, then you will have the authority and people will lend you their ears. You will be perceived as a thought after communicator and they will come and seek you. So confidence and Gravitas are not the same thing. And it's important to be able to respect, command, respect of your team members to lead with both confidence and Gravitas. Confidence comes first. How do you perceive yourself is going to be what you believe about yourself, the story you tell yourself about you, and that translates to Gravitas. How others perceive you. Success comes from the inside out. So leave with both confidence and Gravitas. It's no coincidence that one of the most important ingredients to executive presence is confidence and Gravitas. Let our E stands for Empower with Sensarity. As a leader of teams, one of the most important processes that you're going to be continuously involved in is the process of moving yourself from tactical activities into higher level strategy. As a leader, you might have ambitions that you want to be involved in high level strategy, higher level decisions, higher level acumen in terms of the business and in terms of industry marketplace. As a result of that, in the beginnings, you might be delegating tasks to your team members. But soon enough, you're going to be delegating success. So being able to empower your team members is going to be part and parcel of your role and your responsibilities. Can you empower your team members sincerely so that they're going to take on some of the more tactical positions that you had? Are you going to able to complement them and give them constructive feedback with sincerity in terms of where they need to stop up, in terms of what skills they might need to develop, in terms of where their goals and where their focus needs to be? Are you able to empower them so that they can lead certain things without your presence? When it comes to stepping into higher level strategy, you won't have the time or the bandwidth or the ability to be there for everything, every single decision they are going to make. You won't be there to hold their hand with every day-to-day activity they're going to take. As a result of that, your ability to empower your team members means giving them the independence, giving them the critical thinking and the abilities and the capabilities to be independent to make in those decisions even when you're not there. So that is why letter E stands for Empower with Sensarity. The next one is in leader, LEA. A stands for Armor Yourself with Poshure. Poshure is a really deep word. Poshure does not just mean your physical appearance. Having your back straight and your shoulders back, it has much more than that. Poshuring comes from the inside out. The internal part of Poshure means how you show up. What energy are you bringing to your teams? How do you proceed your team members individually? How do you perceive them as a perspective? What do you see in terms of their future? What do you see as their potential that they have yet to maximize? How are you going to lead them there? That is your Poshuring. And what role do you see specifically that you're going to play in their professional future and in their personal future as well? That is Poshuring from the inside out. External Poshuring is now what are you going to say to your team members day to day, week to week, month to month, quarter to quarter? How are you going to communicate the vision you have for your team 1-4? That's external Poshuring. It has a lot to do with communications. The rest that you say and the messages and the message that it conveys. So arm it yourself with Poshure. The kind of Poshure that leads to greater deservingness as a team leader to have respect from your team. If you're listening to this and you're nodding your head, maybe you're taking notes and you realize that you need to have better Poshuring with your team members. That you really need to have them to see you as a leader and you really do want to empower your team members because you sincerely care about them. And you're wondering, what is the next step? How do I carry this out? How do I take this theory and implement it into practicality? If you require support, then I invite you to work with me. If you desire that, then click the link below and I look forward to meeting you on the inside. So the new framework is leader. We had LEA, the next letter is D, and D stands for Delegate Your Time Wisely. Remember I mentioned earlier in this video, where I said that one of the most important opportunities as a leader is a process, a continuous process of moving yourself from tactical activities to higher level strategy. This means to delegate your time wisely. What are all the activities that you are part of right now? Some of those activities do not warrant your attention. Some of those activities are too tactical for where you're at, or too tactical for where you're going and where you're growing as a leader. So this is important that you are delegating your time wisely to be able to identify using data not by feeling, but to be able to identify what am I going to delegate? Am I delegating activity or am I delegating success? And that is an important strategy. And that movement, that process of going to higher level strategy doesn't stop. It will continue as long as you want to grow. It will continue as long as the company grows as well. So that is why the letter D is here. Delegate your time wisely. The next one up, LEAD, second last and the framework, E, this E stands for to exude presence. So what do I mean by presence? I really mean to be present. A lot of leadership has to do with all the things activities you have to do. It has to do with doing. But have you noticed that some leaders who have been around for a long time, who've been leading a long time, projects and people? Sometimes they're unable to do the things that are called for of them. And that's because in order for you to be able to do the leadership activity successful to the next level, we need to become the person who can do them. And so exude in presence is the kind of presence of mind, equanimity of mind, where you truly are in your purpose, on your purpose. It's clarity of purpose, clarity of mission, clarity of your own values, who you are and what's important to you. And this allows you the presence to look across the table from you at your direct reports and at your senior executives as well and see yourself as see you as equal to them. And that you can truly be present to the people who know how am I going to serve to my highest? How am I going to show up? Why am I doing what I'm doing and what am I really feeling right now? What are my challenges really are that are holding me back from where I want to be? That awareness when you are present, it gives you the awareness of self, it gives you the awareness of your environment, it gives you the awareness of your situation and the other people, it gives you that heightened sense of awareness so that you know exactly what to do next, what the strategy is moving forward. So that is why there is this step letter E, which is to exude presence. The last one in the leader framework is the letter R and R stands for respond with caring compassion. Caring compassion and compassion is not the same thing. Sometimes when we exude compassion, take the word compassion, it's calm and passion, what it really means is with passion. And passion is simply an intense emotion behind it. And oftentimes when we have intense emotions, those intense motions can be really positive or they can be really negative. So it's possible to show up with compassion from somebody, but it's a intense negative emotion. And so when we show up that way, the type of compassion we exude is really self-serving and not other serving, or vice versa, it's other serving, but not it doesn't help ourselves. So when I talk about having a caring compassion, what I mean is it's a caring compassion, so it is mutually beneficial. There is a fair exchange. There is an awareness of who I am, what's important to me, who are they, what's important to them, and it may not be the same. What's important to you may not be the same thing that's important to them, but I'm here to show up and create this fair exchange. And when I respond with caring compassion,
passion to my team members. I'm able to serve them. I'm able to be true to myself and authentic as an authentic leader. And I'm able to support them to achieve their goals and advise verse that while they achieve their goals, we can achieve our team goals as well. So this caring compassion is a really important skill to build as a leader to gain your team's respect. [ Music ]
