The CIA was skeptical of a threat to President Donald Trump before his plain switch. Last month, Trump secretly left Air Force One in a catering truck when departing from a NATO summit in Turkey. He switched to a smaller aircraft, unbeknownst to the Media and many White House officials. The covert operation was said in motion following a threat from Iran, relayed to the CIA by the Israeli government. But the post reported that the CIA had doubts about that Israeli intelligence. Analysts did not view the intelligence as compelling and conveyed that skepticism to Trump administration officials. The Iranian threat to kill Trump and other senior US officials has been a major concern for years. Heitens since the start of the Iran War this year. Some US intelligence officials saw Israel sharing of the warning as designed less to inform than to influence the president's decision making. The Democratic field for president is starting to take shape. That's number two. There are more than two years to go until the next presidential election. But behind the scenes, contenders from both parties are busy working out whether or not it is viable for them to run. This morning, the post published its latest ranking of potential Democratic candidates. Political reporter Amber Phillips is compiling these rankings every few months as the presidential primaries near. She split the candidates into three categories, the standouts, the middle of the pack, and the dark horses, in terms of their likelihood to get the nomination. Among the standouts are former Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Interestingly, Congresswoman Alexandra Akazio Cortez has risen in the ranking since Amber's last edition. That follows a string of victories for Democratic Socialists in primaries in several states and blue cities. The middle of the pack includes governors such as J.B. Pritzker of Illinois and senators like Cory Booker of New Jersey. The dark horses include ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith. This summer, a staffer for Representative Anna Polina Luna made a pretty embarrassing mistake. In a summary of a proposed amendment, they copied a chat bot's answer, timestampin all, and pasted it into the public record of the National Defense Authorization Act. It even included the phrase "Claude responded." A screenshot of the garbled text circulated on social media, but Luna, a Florida Republican, defended the mistake, saying "Most staff use AI." She is right. Across the Capitol, lawmakers and staffers are using AI to write speeches and news releases, sort constituent mail, prepare questions for congressional hearings, and draft amendments. Both chambers of Congress have cleared members and staff to use chat bots for official work, but lawmakers now face a key question. How much of their responsibilities are they willing to hand over? The new frontier has left some lawmakers pondering how to proceed. Number four, a woman's ice encounter is reigniting scrutiny of the agency's aggressive tactics. On Monday, 36-year-old Carolina Molina posted a video online of an encounter with immigration agents in Virginia. It has racked up tens of thousands of views. Her dashcam footage shows officers blocking her car in, one then comes up to her car window, and a gun in the agent's hand can be seen, raised, and held at the center of Molina's open driver's side window. The agent threatened to arrest her, and she told him she was a U.S. citizen. The agent also says that she nearly ran him over, which she denies. Her dashcam footage and phone video do not show her attempting to hit the agents with her car. In other words, Molina told the post that the incident felt like a "rene good" situation. Good was a mother of three and a U.S. citizen who was fatally shot by ice agents in January during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis. Prescription drug prices recorded their sharpest drop in more than 60 years. That's number five. Overall medical costs have continued to rise for Americans. But according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released yesterday, prices for medicinal drugs fell 2.7% over the 12 months ending in July. And prescription drugs fell by 3.1%. That's the steepest annual decline since March 1963. The White House took credit for the news, saying it came down to Trump's efforts to slash drug prices. But there are other factors at play like a Biden-era policy that requires Medicare to negotiate prices for some popular prescription drugs. Also, cheaper versions of GLP-1 weight loss drugs have contributed to the drop. This year's record El Nino will give Earth a preview of its warmer future. That's number six. This El Nino climate pattern is not just going to be strong. It could be the strongest ever. Ocean temperatures in the Central Equatorial Pacific, where El Nino's strength is measured, have already broken records for 75 days straight. That will do more than just shift and enhance patterns of heat, extreme rainfall, and drought around the world. It will also offer the planet a vision of the late 2030s. That's because it will temporarily push global temperatures to levels that might not otherwise be reached for another decade or so. According to one analysis, there's a 95% chance that 2027 will be the planet's hottest year on record. The combination of El Nino and climate change could spike global temperatures to around 1.76 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial averages. That's just over 3 degrees Fahrenheit. And at number seven, if you missed the solar eclipse, you won't have to wait long for another. Those were the cheers of all muckers in Areha, Spain as a total solar eclipse swept across parts of Greenland, Iceland, and Spain yesterday. A partial eclipse was also visible from parts of the US. If you happened not to be in Spain and have a little solar fomo, get planning now. Another total eclipse will take place in less than a year's time next August. The path of totality will pass over the strait of Gibraltar, Libya, and Egypt among other places. It's going to be a spectacular one. Egypt may have the best view. Luxur will get 6 minutes and 23 seconds of totality. Because of the vast deserts in Egypt, weather prospects are superb. And the sun will be almost directly overhead, so viewers will be able to lie on the ground and stare upward during totality, maybe even among some ancient Egyptian ruins. That sounds like a once in a lifetime trip, so make your bookings now, and maybe I'll see you there. Alright, you're all caught up.
