Welcome back to Wringertelgate, the Wednesday edition of the show, I'm your host, Tate Frazier, and it's officially the pre-season. We are working through the pre-season. We've got a very fun show. We'll do our one big reaction to the freaks list that came out from Bruce Feldman. We'll talk about our sort of definition of freaks and we'll also talk about some of the top five headlines that are happening in college football. We'll also do our favorite week of the season as we look ahead at the schedule. We'll talk about all that and more, but first and foremost, let's say what's up to our guys, Van Lathen in studio. What's up, Van? What's up? We got to go ahead and raise the roof right now, so we get a good one. Guys, what is up? We are inching closer to the couch football season. Yeah. Yeah. Right there. Stop it. We got Joe Anderson. We got the Anderson jersey behind him, tailgate behind him, press box behind him, Joe, looking good in the studio. People really like this room. When I bring people in to look at my room, they're like, "Yeah, man, this is nice." You know? So, yeah, it's coming together. I'm really proud. My wife helped put this together, kind of dreamed this for me. Yeah. That's really sweet. I like that. That's a nice story. I'm getting ahead of any bullshit that might come with it, that's so good. Why? Well, that's inevitable. We're going to get there at some point, and that leads us to our first opener here. We got instigators, an updated edition of instigators. This is from Paulie, aka Boo Bear. First, we want to, can we raise the roof for the midnight boys? Oh, yeah, man. Oh. Yeah. Congrats. Vanity Fair had the midnight boys special feature story talking about how they've been able to, you know, navigate the nerd space and, you know, become, yeah, look at that. Super stars right there. Shout out to Joe. I feel like, Joe, he's part of the tailgate family. Yeah, he's definitely part of it. Yeah, he's been on tailgate. Joe, he's part of tailgate family. Was he hype about when that USC shirt was out of the week? You last week? I didn't even mention it. I don't know if he saw it. We'll send a screenshot to him, but Paulie reached out and he said, "When will we see this type of recognition for Ringer tailgate tagged all of us?" And I immediately in my mind went to Joel, because I feel like if there's any person that would be offended by this cover, it would be Joel Anderson. But Joel has grown. We'll talk about another situation with instigating. But Joel, your thoughts when you saw this? Well, no. I mean, first of all, we first came on. I was telling Van about how I'm a thought warrior, how I was very excited and really appreciated his interview with Stacey Abrams. And I was excited to see the article. I was like, "Oh, man. Now I don't listen to that podcast because, you know, if this is some shit that's really outside of my warehouse, I'm just not. I like everybody on the show, but it's just nothing, you know, that I just don't frame a reference." But, yeah. But no, I'm happy for Van and I'm excited for Van is, you know, one of the smartest, most provocative thinkers out there in the country. And so I'm happy to see him being rewarded for his success. Yeah. I thank you, Joel. I really appreciate that. Like, I didn't realize that the Vanity Fair thing was meaningful in the way that it was. I was like, very happy. It's like almost like the first time in life she's ever been proud of me, which is very exciting. Oh, man. Really? Stop. She told me. She said, "It's the first time she said something you've done a lot of things, but I've never cared before. That's what Vanity Fair, I'm finally proud of you." And so. Maybe now you can meet David Copperfield. Oh. Shit. Yeah. David Copperfield. I love you. I know that you know that the David Copperfield story and you know who else will love that? Did you remember that? Tate Chelsea. Oh. Shout out to everybody out there. Tate plays a lot of Chelsea's. You got to be more specific. Well, it's nice that we got Paulie reaching out to us. Maybe one day, Ring of Tailgate will, you know, get a bump there. This is all we want to do. Where do we want to be? Like what publication we want to be in? Mmm. Wait. I mean, the New York Times. Right? We're at the forefront of, you know, college football podcast and exploding medium, something like that. Or, you know, oh, I guess it would be the athletic actually. So it would be an athletic, or maybe you could write the lead for the story, right, Joel? I mean, if I need it too, yeah, you know, I'm going to write the lead, bro. I mean, yeah. That's nothing. I mean, of course, I could do that. Yeah. A couple more instigations that we have to get to quickly at the top. There was a golf outing that happened in the DMV area. Obviously, Joel Anderson, Danny Hyphids, as we know, best of friends. We talked about it on the show. But there seemed to be a golf outing between Ring or teammates. And Joel was nowhere to be found. Danny Hyphids, Joe House, Anthony DeBundo, all playing golf together. We sent the picture. And Joel, I just want to say a lot of growth from you. Last year, I think you would have called them some hose. But you said you didn't care. I was very proud of you. Well, I mean, a couple of things about this. Look, I don't play golf. Like, it would be a waste of time for them to invite me out. Danny got to see a closer person on how bad I am. Would you win before the play golf or you went before? We went to the driving range. We didn't get that. But it was golf, but, but I was, it was all related and you went. I would slow things up. It would not, it would not be necessary for me to go out there. And also, it's funny to show where ever put their names in your fucking mouth, where we haven't done our ALS challenge yet. Like, we should not talk about them until we respond to the challenge. Y'all have got to talk about it. Whoa, first of all, first of all, a magnificent dick ride. Number one, number two, they ain't got nothing to do with what we're talking about. They're doing what we're talking about. What we're talking about right now is the fact that you started a side group, right? What, what is a side group? It's just me saying-- You started a side group. This is weird because I had a homeboy one time that had a side chick. And in my crew-- You know, he's a dick. You know he is a dick. I didn't mean the same guy, you know what I'm talking about. So he had a side chick and my, and my crew, they were so toxic that they had a rule for the side chicks. And this was really stupid. This was a real, I'm going to go ahead and be honest that this was really stupid. So every once in a while, you would be the side, actually, he was the side nigga. He wasn't this, the different situation I called it wrong. He was the side nigga. But this was a rule that my homeboy's had as being the side guy. Being the side guy was cool as long as the girl put you over her boyfriend. That's a, that's something to listen to. I want you to listen. This was the rule. I should name him because he came up with this and the rest of the crew adapted this rule. So that meant if she's on the phone with the boyfriend and you call, she hangs up. And she's out with the boyfriend and you see her out with the boyfriend. And you say, come here, she got to come to you and say, what's up? >> No, man. >> Those was the rules that my toxic crew established over being the side guy. One time, we was at Sonic. We pulled it up at the, we pulled up at the Sonic. Nobody had roller skates at the Sonic. They didn't roll it, they was coming around, one time we was at the Sonic and we saw them. Now, she is in the car with her boyfriend. >> Mm-hm. >> We don't have delicious food to be delivered to her and Sonic America's driving. My homeboy Caesar, and he goes, yo, come over here. I mean, she would have had to have gotten out of the car with the boyfriend. This wasn't like a situation where we were in the parking lot at the movies to where she could go hold on real quick and be disrespectful and then play that disrespect off. She would have had to have gotten out of the car, close the door, come over to our window. Like leaned over, like a complete and total violation. News flash, she didn't do it, okay? So apparently we drive away, we mugging at her as we drive away. We saw her driving away, his phone starts blowing up, a boyfriend has seen her look at us. The boyfriend got out of the car with the Sonic. She didn't cause us blowing the phone up to my homeboy. He like, now it's over. It's over. You know how it is when I want it like, it's over, it's over, I'm not nice. >> She failed the test. >> Yeah, it's over, it's over. It's over, I told you about your little nigga, yeah, your little nigga. But when I, you know, it's over, it's over, it's over. She on the phone freaking out the whole night, it's going on. So Bruce Feldman puts his list out, notorious Michael Embardi-Hader, by the way, Bruce Feldman, man. He does not like Michael Embardi. - That is true. He doesn't say anything explicitly negative about anybody, but he let loose on your dog, man. That's like a fox, that has to be like a fox beef that goes back. I know nothing of it, but I do know this. Bruce Feldman writes a nice piece every single year. He breaks down the freaks of college football. And this year, we had the list in front of us and number one on the list, Van, you seem to be a little shocked by this Nick Harbor, the Y receiver from obviously South Carolina, one of the fastest players in the country. You know, he's on the track team as well at South Carolina, a certified freak. So one, Van, what is your definition of a freak and then two, your reaction to Nick Harbor being number one? - I mean, he's definitely a freak, but he got to play better football, bro. Like, my definition of a freak is, I guess, I feel like this whole thing is kind of like, fucking meaningless. I mean, if you have all of the measurables and stuff like that, you're a freak athlete, right? I think the size, speed, combination is what makes most people a freak. Like, if you're six foot five and you got great body control and you catch the ball and high point, that's one thing. But if you're six foot five and you're 240 pounds and you won like a 4, 3, 40 yard dash, then you're probably a freak. But I guess my thing is, if you all of those things and you grab like 25 balls, like what difference do it really make? - 30 passes last season. - 30 passes for Nick Harbor. Like, Nick Harbor is a freak and he's been on his list for a while, but Nick Harbor needs to be more productive. It's not all his fault, but to me, I like freakish production, not just freakish measurables. - Okay, 235 pounds, 23.8 miles per hour on the GPS and also measured in a 5% body fat. Does that check the box for you, Joel, to be the number one freak? - Yeah, I mean, Nick Harbor is ridiculous as an athlete and I mean, the thing about it is that being a receiver is an easy man. Like, now kids, people that are going to college as receivers have spent years drilling and going through having all these different reps, Nick Harbor didn't play wide receiver in high school. So this is a whole new thing for him. So he's having to learn at one of the elite levels of football and last year, it seemed to be the year that he seemed to be catching on. I mean, his last two, I think at 100 yard games and his last two games of the season. So yeah, man, I think, you know, it's fair to look at this because the thing is, nobody says he's the 100 best prospects, but in football, as much as any sport, you need to be able to project physical traits 'cause that can tell a lot about how good somebody can be and what the potential is. Because like, you look, that's the whole premise behind the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, a bunch of athletes from Africa who have, which is actually kind of a weird concept when you think about it. - Nah, you like it, continue to tell it. - Yeah, wait no, I'm not, I just, I like it. - You just said, you're making the, you're making a very robust defense of it right now. - Yeah, well, I'm just saying that take care of the ball. - Take care people, they're looking at, they're looking to great athletes, people that have all the measurables and explosive capabilities in their sand. We might be able to do something with this. We gotta make this golf football player. - So what's wrong with that? - There's a tradition of them doing that for a while now, going to Africa, seeing who can produce. - Did America's past time? - Yeah. essence really. I mean, I don't think I don't think it's actually just Africa. I mean, there's like, there's like, you know, this, this, why how's it gonna go? No, no, if you go to the page, go look on the stage, because they, okay, let's let's see the top 10 guys they got from Singapore. No, they're not going to. They're not going to. Yeah. Yeah, let's see from Australia. Okay, yeah, they might have a couple of there. Yeah, I mean, even LSU, they got, they've seen some Moans, Joe, and Jerminer's and stuff like that. I have a couple of them. Germany, Japan, Germany, Japan, Japan, Japan. Okay, they went to the military base. Yeah, half of these appear to be not from Nigeria, though. Right. Oh, yes, half of them appear to be from Nigeria. I wonder why? Look, the Texas of Africa. So, so this is a, this is also depending on position, right? If you have a player that is a skill position player, you might have a greater learning curve than somebody who you can say, go get the quarterback all the time, or, you know, not that those guys don't need to be, no need to have refined skills, because you do need to refine their skills. But obviously, some of this stuff is depending on what position you're actually going to be playing. I think that what you said is absolutely correct. If you have somebody that is six foot four, 235 pounds that runs a 4 340 yard dash, you think to yourself, at some point, this guy's going to be able to get open either vertically or across the field, and I'm going to be able to throw the ball and, and, and have this player catch the ball. However, we see it all the time in football. We see guys who have on candy body control, be able to get in and out of breaks and get themselves open and be productive receivers for a long time. And we see players with tremendous physical gifts for whatever reason just can't figure out the game. And that has existed through time and memorial. So yeah, freaks, like that matters, like what you can do athletically matters, but I am just like a production guy, you know, not to pick on this guy, but like when anti Richardson was coming out of the draft, everybody was getting all wild about anti Richardson going into top five. And I was just had to say this, I didn't mean to, you know, talk down about this brother making all his money, I hope he makes every cent that he possibly can, but at some point in a three game stretch in a four game stretch, you have to play good quarterback. Yeah, you have to play good quarter. Yeah, at some point, you have to go out there with all the gifts that you have, you have to put together on the field. I know I'm not trying to be pedantic about the freaks, let's understand what it is. But like to see Nick harbor, I'm waiting to have to see Nick harbor have that break out explosive season. Maybe it's not all his fault, but I'm waiting to see that happen. Oh, yeah, I mean, I think it's definitely possible that it's going to happen. And you just think you just can't, it's just no different than what you're any coach in high school does when they see a big dude walking through the hallway. Like, hey, man, you play football, you know, it's like these are guys that look like they play football. You were the column of the guys that when they get off the bus to get off the bus team, and these are who basically those guys. I call them the airplane team. If you're walking through the airport, you know, you have in the airport, you're like, who is that guy? Yeah, man, you know, and like I say, I mean, it doesn't always work like that, but sometimes people overvalued for production too. And some, you know, the NFL takes all kinds. It takes, you know, freakish potential. It takes guys. Give me an example of somebody of somebody being overvalued for production. Dylan Gabriel. Dylan Gabriel, you feel like was overvalued for. Yes. Yes. Absolutely. Let me. Well, I mean, I had to go back over. I thought Jay, I guess people like JJ McCarthy because of production. I think because he won. I guess my, I guess my, my situation is to that point, there are people who their production, you should consider their insulation, right? Yeah, you can, consider how in 2023 Michigan team, right? You should consider how insulated they are, like what they have around them and all of that types of all of that shit like that, right? There are more things that consider than just production, but to me, if you don't, if you don't have production, if you haven't dominated or at least been good at the level that you're at, it just to me very rarely works out that that light comes on in the NFL and the toughest professional you're going to be in. Well, it really works out for everybody. Like everybody, most people just are not going to make it because it's a very hard sport to me. And the thing is, though, is that like sometimes you're like, this guy is very small, very slow for his position. I'm not going to waste my time with that dude when this guy has just blank canvas and I want to see what I could do with it. But yeah, now to your point, man, I get it. Like, this is not the All-American team, right? And so, yeah, I went with Nick Harbor. I would love to see him. I mean, just the idea of somebody being that big that fast and being hugely productive is amazing. I hope it works out for him this year. Yeah, well, ran a 10-1 in the 100s. And I'm no track expert, but that sounds pretty good to me. Number two on the list was last year's top guy. And he actually is all the things that we're talking about when you talk about production, Jeremiah Smith, or I say why receiver. He's compared to Andre Johnson because of his size and explosiveness. Another freak, obviously, Andre Johnson, we know what he was able to do. But Jeremiah Smith at number two, what do you think about that, Joel? You know, actually, what it made me think of is that for first of all, that's absolutely right. And if you look at clips of Jeremiah Smith when he was in high school running at very seven on seven camps and All-American camps or whatever, he looked like he was in the NFL when he was like 16 to 17 years old. I remember when pictures came out of Ohio State's spring practices before his freshman year. And they showed pictures of him. And it was like, God damn, that's what that's what a high school senior looks like now. You know, I mean, so he's always been that and he's only lived up to that. But the thing that was actually interesting to me and the little blurb that Bruce wrote about him was that we everybody knows that Ohio State lost Brian Hartline. Like what maybe the best wide receivers coach in the country. And they bring in Cortez Hankton, who van knows from LSU, LSU guy, right. And so it's just like, and I was thinking because I was like, well, how do you step in that Ohio State receivers room. Keep everybody there and earn their respect. I'm like, he has to do something. And he was just like, oh, yeah, y'all do shit with the ball after the catch. He's like, I got to work on it. Y'all are one of the worst at that. You got something to improve on. I was like, see that. I mean, that's just how a guy like that is able to get in there and motivate people and keep them engaged after maybe the best wide receivers coach in the country moves on. So I thought that was really interesting. But yeah, I look for a big year out of Jeremiah Smith. I mean, in a fair world, he'd be the husband favorite, you know. He's not the favorite, which is kind of fascinating. Also, Chris Henry Jr. will be next to him out there. One of my favorite freshmen in the country. Van, you feel good about Jeremiah Smith there at number two. He's like, maybe the greatest package at Y receiver that I've seen. Like he's like a combination of every single freak that Ohio State has had. And they put them all together on one guy, the size, the speed, the hands, the competitiveness. And he's, and he's full boss mark. Well, I was going to say like, what if, because I remember when Larry Fitzgerald was in college, and he just seemed like the most dominant receiver, I'd basically seen in college. A guy that did not have a great quarterback, by the way. And I was like, but wait, what if Larry Fitzgerald was Randy Moss? You know, I mean, you know, I mean, you know, I mean, like that's kind of with like the prospect of Jeremiah Smith is like, what if Larry Fitzgerald was, it was actually Randy Moss. That's how talented he is. That's how much that's how much of potential there is for that guy. I mean, he's, you know, and he's already put it together now. But I mean, I thought Marvin Harrison Junior was going to be amazing in the NFL. And we see how that's worked out. Yeah, he's in a tough spot with the Cardinals. I think he'll still find his footing at some point. Another fascinating name in the top five Jackson can't well. Who, you know, parents, both in the shot put, obviously, you know, talking about the force that he's been able to generate. He's going to be the starting left tackle for Miami. He's a name that we might not know right now. But I think we will know as the season begins because he's going to be, you know, based on all the measurements and all of the reports coming out of camp. He's going to be a superstar. Former five star crew, Gatorade player of the year, all that sort of stuff, Joel, you seem like you're excited about. Well, here's the thing about this. If you know Bruce Feldman, Bruce Feldman is a University of Miami alum. So if there's a place that he has sources and he talks to coaches and knows people, Miami would be one of the, you know, top schools there. So if he pulls that name out right now, knowing what his connections are to Miami, that means something, dude. I mean, no, it doesn't like, I'm glad those guys have great measurables. I think of the of them Dylan Stewart is probably the one that like you are going to your surest to get great production out of, but the question is, are they progressing as football players? Are they progressing as people who know how to be effective at the trade craft of playing college football? You can run fast. Can you get open? you are incredibly strong. Can you defeat a double team? There's more to it than that. And so we'll see what's on the field at South Carolina this year, right? Between sellers, between Dylan, between Nick, like we'll see what happens on the field. But now I don't get excited about that type of shit anymore unless I see the little things, right? 'Cause like when Joe knows this, you're watching a back, right? You're watching a back that's exploding through a hole and just in high school, beating everybody to the second and third level. Running through tackles that should be there. Then you see a back in high school that has a lot of gifts, but also presses a hole. Also waits for a second and sets up a block. A lot of times those guys might not even have some of the dazzling skills of the other guys, but you see things that you maybe can't, you see things that lead you to know that they will be productive. Now those other guys have things that you can't teach, but some guys also have things that they can't learn for whatever reason it is. So I always get into this, but I always like to know what you did when it was time to do it. - Yeah, you take it a little bit with the grain of salt. Another name that was fascinating to see on this list so low, and he's added a name to his name. Ryan Williams, now Ryan Williams, Alabama, I receiver. He's at number 38. So it's not, the show isn't how big or how fast he is, even though he is all those things. So yeah, that sounds about right. I'm actually just more surprised in general that people just seem to be down on the kid 'cause he had a really good sophomore year for most sophomores. And Ryan Williams career going from having really an amazing first half of his freshman year to being a player on the outside looking in of college football stardom. That's too much of a tragedy for the young man for me to root for even if he is LSU's chief rival. Ryan Williams has a lot of talent. He seems to be a good kid. He's always got a smile on his face. And so to me, I want to see them be able to figure out, you don't like it. Your reaction when you saw this video and everybody else's reaction, people were talking about he might be the best receiver in football. I thought that was a little bit of an overreaction. I suddenly up there, I mean, he's certainly up there and when you look at that, you look at a combination of things right there, obviously the athleticism, but the concentration along with the athleticism to be able to adjust to that ball, but then also to have the concentration and the soft hands to pull the ball in, you figure he can make a catch like that is not much excuse not for him to not make any catch. I mean, that's a combination in the air on the fly of receiver skills that just at an elite level. Yeah, he looks like AJ Green. I know he's wearing number eight, so that's probably why, but that was a ridiculous catch. So this is obviously a university that you have some iron from the long horns, but I wanted to ask you this. Could Parker Livingstone make that catch? Oh, man. No, I mean, they told me I had to cut him for salary care consideration. They like me. They like me. We can't call him. They don't run, Wingo, I think the kid that said Colorado now, DeAndre, I can't remember his last name, but DeAndre more. So yeah, I mean, they needed him to be productive and I'm just, I'm just realizing there's a lot more context to it now because he's also going to be a sophomore this year. That was his first real year of playing sound, Livingstone. He was asked by John Fanta, shout out to my guy Fanta how different the Ohio State game is from any other. He said, quote, it's just another game, just with guys in a different color. That's how I see it. Do you like this quote from Bryce Underwood, man? No. No, I don't like it. I don't like it. Number one, because it's not the way you should look at the game. From a competitive standpoint, maybe that's the way you should feel, but that's not what you should say. Like that game is the most meaningful game in American sports. Damn. Yes. That game is the most meaningful game in American sports. As a matter of fact, the only game that I think travels that game in meaningfulness to the respective fan bases to me is the Bayou Classic. You could legitimately win, in my opinion, you could be at Gremlin and we've seen this. You could be at Gremlin and you could win. You could lose one game every year at Gremlin and win the SWAC. If that one game that you lose every single year, five years of the Bayou Classic, they can get you the fuck out of there. They're not doing that. They're not going to have you losing to Southern every year. It's too meaningful. You could be at Ohio State and you could win every single year. If you are losing to Michigan every year, you're going to depress your fan base. The game is incredibly important. I think it's the same on the other side. You go out there, you're walloping people, you're winning national championships, you're doing stuff, but you're losing Ohio State, you're losing the Michigan. That game is a cultural fucking battle. It's war. It's a cultural war. It's a financial war. It's a war for bragging rights. It is legitimately like blade on blade, iron against iron in college football. I don't know that there's another game in college football, if you calling it major college football, that compares. I don't know if there's another thing that compares. I was going to say they would probably, they would argue the iron, but like, yes. But the reason why I don't think that the iron bowl is the same way is because with, I don't think that Alabama is a college football blue blood. Auburn is not. I think that Michigan has enough college football tradition in Ohio State. It's obviously one of the greatest programs in college football history. Michigan also being that those two teams being in world and rivalry, sometimes teams have been up, sometimes they've been down. But those two teams being embroiled in that type of cultural rivalry. I don't think it's this anywhere else in the sport. The iron bowl is a big deal. Every single fucking rivalry you fucking brain is a big deal. It's going to be an o-trigger show. But there is one where you can win a national championship. There's one where you can win a national championship and lose that game and your fan base will look at you as a failure. There's one. There's one where you can win everything. And lose that game and your fan base will look at your season as still part and there's one game and that's where it exists. So I think he has to give that game to me, the type of weight and gravity that I think it deserves. Well, he said last year before he played the game, quote, "I'm going to dominate Ohio State and I'm never going to lose." He obviously lost last year. So he changed course. That's tough. So the Ohio State fans are very excited to see this reaction. Also, winning him before when he was asked about Ohio State, he was like, "I don't hate those guys." Then he got a lot of pushback from Michigan fans that were like, "Yes, we do hate those guys." He's kind of had to re-can a little bit. So it is fascinating to kind of see how much the talk about the rivalry becomes a story. Right. Yeah. I mean, it's interesting about the winning ham thing because he's the BYU grad who was the head coach and you taught for all those years. Yeah, I mean, so he may have to look at an intense rivalry in quite that way, but you don't say that. And it actually has me thinking, I know the SID can't make the coach say anything they don't want to say or the players say anything they don't want to say, but you can protect them. But you can protect them. Yeah. That's one of those things you just, that's what an unforced error. All you got to say is, yeah, man, like everybody on our schedule knows what that game is. And we want to beat them like we want to beat anybody else, but obviously that's something special here and love up to that. But it's just, that's, that's, it's too easy to not fumble that. Oh, you think they can? - Oh, man, Clemson can't afford to sit on their ass in this climate. Like there's still some moving and realignment to go. The big 10 and the SEC can only take with so many schools. And the SEC is already inclined to not take Clemson 'cause they've already got South Carolina. - Right, and I mean, I'm sorry. I mean, I'm sure Clemson is a great school, but the big 10 probably looks at Clemson like why would we bring y'all in here? So this is a different caliber of academic institution. So, so Dabbo, Dabbo. - They might go after Georgia Tech before Clemson. - Yeah, Clemson needs Dabbo to win. Like he can't coast forever. This is a different era and they're giving him time. Like they've lost like three or more games for five straight seasons. So now they need to start doing something. - He won them two national championships. - Yeah, no. - I do not think that Clemson is firing Dabbo so many. - I think they give him the option to step down. - Yeah, that's what I'm gonna say. - Yeah, that'd be like maybe five. - Then maybe he gets fired. - Well, here's the thing though. Here's the problem with this. This is interesting that Joe would say this because Joe, hold on, let me ask you something, Joe. You don't think Clemson should look at firing Dabbo so many, do they? - I think he should because if you say anything other than, no, I'm gonna break this time. - Because, no, listen, no, listen, because Clemson is in a unique situation. They've not been really, well, first of all, they've not really been good or a player for the last five or six years seasons. The quality is a crime that coaches own, a stubbornness and adapting to a new way, the new model of the game. And again, Clemson's space and whatever the realignment that comes after this is not assured. Like they're probably gonna get in, but they're not assured. They're not in the SEC or the big 10. So they need to be a really good football program. And if Dabbo, they can't afford to do the. - I don't think he's on the hot seat. I don't think he's on the hot seat though. I really don't. He's not on the hot seat, he's not going. - So if they were six or seven this year, you don't think they were farmed. - No, I think you get one more year. I think he'd get two more years. I think that, 'cause listen, Clemson was a legitimately perplexing college football program. There was a name for what they do. It's called Clemsoning, you guys all know it. He made them into what they are. They are going to stay with him until the entrails of the tiger spill out all over the field. - And he was an interim coach. I mean, he came in after time out. - I don't think Clemson can't afford to do that. And this is just a different era, man. Team schools are spending-- - I think he's on the hot scene for fans. I think you're right about that, Joel. I just think-- - School's just been in $70 million for buyouts now. Like, it's just a different time. You can't afford to be bad for a very long time. And if fan interest starts to tail off and all that other stuff starts going up and all these schools claim that they're losing money, you just can't go on for everything. - By the way, how does Clemson situate it financially? Does Clemson have even a robust system in the same way that some of these other schools do to go out and buy a bunch of different players and stuff like that? If you're a Clemson, because some of these legacy schools that we're talking about, like a Florida state, don't have those types of resources, right? And if you don't have those types of resources, then you better damn well have, hold on to the most valuable thing that you do have, which is the name of your head coach, right? If you don't have, which we don't know the financial situation of Clemson, what we should do-- - Clemson's got money. - I'm not saying it doesn't take, but what I'm saying is, do they have the type of money where they're ever going to be able to go out and pay a coach $100 million? - Yes, right. - And then a 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 million dollar buyoff and don't work in the next two or three years. Can they put themselves in that position, right? And so, like, what we should do is a whole show where we go into the top 25 until everybody, exactly what financial situation all of these people are in. It's Clemson in the situation that LSU is in, where legitimately, they will harvest the entire state for the football team. Niggas is walking around no shoes, dirty water. The whole fucking thing, LSU got a $28 million locker room. Right, does it mean that much to Clemson and to the fan base is like where they are? I mean, again, I look, I'm not saying that dabbo is not important to Clemson, that he will not get a statue there someday, but they just, I really don't believe that they can afford to be a mediocre program for too much longer. I don't, this doesn't mean that they're going to fire on this year, but I could definitely see them saying, "You know, dabbo, maybe you might just need to change your scenery." - Or maybe you do, would you like to be a associate athletic director or something like that, or can we give you some sort of title? Because if you're not going to do the job, 'cause that's the thing right now. So we don't know if Clemson, if the issue is Clemson, it's like, we're not giving him no money because he refuses to use it or we don't know how he's going to use it. Or it's like, I know you got the money out there, but I don't care. I'm just going to still try to win like we won in 2014. That's just a proposition that just can't happen in this climate anymore. - It might be a loser-leaves town game. I think it's Halloween, Florida State Clemson. In both of the seasons go awry. - Yeah. - And they're playing each other. - Guys, it doesn't feel odd to you that we never talk about Florida State. Like there's no talk in the national media. There's no talk on this show. There's no talk. No one is right now talking about Florida State Football. Florida State Football, two or three years ago, was one of the conversations in football, in college football, with what happened to them, Jordan Travis situation going into the playoff, but also what Norville have been able to do to revitalize the program and have them in a situation where they were actually elite expectations after Florida State and people were wondering if they were totally rejuvenated. After the last season, last couple of years, really, people were looking at Florida State and just wondering what the hell is going on. - Oh yeah, well they've witnessed Alabama last year, and then everybody thought they were back. - They wouldn't talk in half a week's, yeah. - No one's talking about it at all. - Well, I mean, man. - I don't even think people even know who their quarterback is, you know? Like if you ask a casual fan, like who's the quarterback of Florida State? Like I don't think anybody would even know. - It's Ashton Daniels. - Yeah, they're from Auburn. - But I'm just saying, Stanford. - Yeah, but like Tommy Castellano has just put in for his five for five. People might think he's still trying to come back to Florida State. Like that's just how far off the radar. - To echo what you're saying, man. It is funny that they're not even talking. - No team has had a worse run of luck since Jordan Travis got hurt. Like I said, no program. They were really like at the heights, and then he gives his knee fucked up, and it's just been bad bit as ever since, man. And I don't know if that loss of Jordan Travis and then get left out the playoffs, just took the wind out of the cells or the whole program or whatever, but they've never been able to recapture it. And the problem for Florida State is that we mentioned earlier. They just, well, they have some money, but their booster class is like, we not giving it to Norville. Like you gotta do something whatever you got right now, and if you do something with that, then we'll give you some money. So they're kind of withholding the purse strings on them. And so, I mean, it kind of seems like they want to get rid of the guy and move in more but they don't have to put a bag on them. - Bert Chrysher to give some money. He's a Florida State guy, right? I mean, I try to be nice to every city in the country 'cause I have love for all of them and how they were founded and, you know, try to thrive in spite of, you know, the support they receive from their governments. And she's gonna be going to school to sister Hannah and my boy, Tony, who was just here to put his son on a little nephew T.J. up at Howard.
