The Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Run Begins TODAY | Local Hour
42m 25s
The show reflects on a fading era of authentic cultural and media experiences, from the wonder of first-time movie theater visits to the deep emotional ties fans have with their favorite teams. It laments how streaming and digital media have replaced the magic of physical cinema and the personal connection fans once had with live events. The Miami Dolphins’ media neglect serves as a symbol of a broader crisis in sports journalism, where shrinking resources and shifting priorities leave teams like the Dolphins with little coverage. The Florida Panthers’ move to bring back goalie Sergei Bobrasky is praised not just as a tactical upgrade, but as a gesture of respect for a player with a storied legacy, despite his poor performance last season. The conversation extends to nostalgia, with references to 1960s TV shows like *Car 54, Where Are You?* symbolizing a longing for simpler, more meaningful entertainment. The show also critiques modern media’s over-saturation with sensationalism, exemplified by Michael Wilbond’s sharp, unexpected takes on sports. Ultimately, it calls for greater awareness and appreciation of legacy, tradition, and the human elements that once defined sports and media—elements now increasingly lost in a fast-paced, algorithm-driven world.
Greg, I have what I think is a decent back in my day idea for you that actually is allowed to be nostalgic while pining for the past and blaming technology for taking something from you. Do you guys remember the first time that you saw a movie in a theater because I think this generation is going to lose what I'm about to say, which is I still watch Indiana Jones whenever it flashes across my screen because I associate it with my first ever movie experience. So it makes that movie stick in a way that none other ever will because I'm getting the wonder and discovery of a movie theater for the first time. And I think we're going to lose it with what streaming is doing where that can't happen to you if you're just watching it from home. Zaz, do you remember the first movie you ever saw in a theater? I have my first memory of a movie I saw in the theater. I don't think it was my first, but I was six years old and my dad took me to see Robocop. Really violent for a six-year-old. Put it on the pole at Levitage show is Robocop really violent. Really violent. It explains a lot. So Indiana Jones, Valerie makes fun of me because I'm approaching 60 and I will just stare hypnotized if it's ever Indiana Jones. But the reason I think of it right now is in that movie there's a scene. He hates snakes and he falls down into a floor filled with snakes and now he's just waving a torch around to keep the snakes away from him and it's how I came in here today because I'm doing this to you guys. You're not going to get me to talk about Case Keenum. I'm not doing that three weeks into the season. I'm swinging a torch around. You're not going to force me to talk about the Monday night football game because it was on Monday night and now I have to talk about the third string quarterback of the Bears. What a game. A shit game. Oh, he did it in a pen stand. What a game by Case Keenum. You're not going to get me to do it. Yeah, do it. Not when the panthers are starting. Not when the heat are starting. Not when the dolphins are a distant third place in town. So distant that I really cannot remember a scene quite as sad as what happened to the coach of the Miami Dolphin yesterday where he walks into a room and there's no one there to cover him because the assembled media. What little of their is left is all over town covering the teams that do winning. Well, right. Like it isn't it more about there being a lack of media than it being Oh, today's heat media day. So no one's here at dolphins. But it's panthers opening the season as well. It's two more rel it's two more relevant teams. It's to if you have sparse resources, the place you're going to send them is not to who cares about what the dolphins are their seasons already over. The other two are getting started. That's a good point. I still thank you. I still think that dolphins are Kingsport in town. But this year that that's challenged because they're so so bad in the middle of just an arduous rebuild. Nobody wants to wait. Check back with the dolphins in two years. They're going to be pretty good in two years. We think not now. You're listening to the Don Levatar show in partnership with the Draft King Sports Act now live in all 50 states. I am genuinely curious as we start today's show where you guys fall on something ancient that is dying by the day here and gave us a press conference at dolphins camp yesterday that began like none I've ever seen in this town in terms of a devalued local product that used to be an amazing national and international thing because of the death of media, because of the death of resources and because of the amount of sports that we have in town and the amount of sports that are more relevant than the dolphins right now. Hockey and basketball beginning its season on the day the WNBA and baseball start turned the dolphins into a complete sports afterthought yesterday. And so Jeff Halflay and anytime in the history of this town the dolphins coach is one of the most powerful faces and voices we have in our town. This is as least powerful and visible as a face as you've ever had unproven has not won a game at the professional level comes out and is stunned that there's no one there to hear him talk. I really wonder as he looks out into the crowd whether he thinks he's got a small time job. Like a job that's not what he imagine an NFL head coaching job would feel like because his team doesn't have a chance and he's being covered as if he lives in podunk in a podunk town where he's looking out and he thinks of the NFL is big important meaningful. I feel like this is more a state of the media than it is even against the dolphins. Yeah but does it is an NFL head coach aware of that. I'm just saying back in the day they had enough writers to send to all the different locations. Nowadays it's like all right what's the biggest story today it's the heat sorry dolphins. No you're right but like I don't think NFL head coaches that they're so in their own bubble. I don't think they're aware of the current state of media that I think it may be more long lines of what you're asking Dan. I wonder whether he thinks that the dolphins were one thing and looks out into that crowd at the start of what has to be a pretty miserable season and thinks to himself I had bigger press conferences than this at Boston College. Now you guys aren't wrong you guys are not incorrect when you say that the media is falling apart I've told you recently a couple of stories that have made me you know just sad about the state of the industry. One a USA Today job full-time covering the chargers paid less than my friend was paid walking dogs and the LA Times a once very very proud sports section will only go on the road this year with the Lakers and the Dodgers and I want to ask you guys genuinely what is the cost of that when you're getting your team covered far less well does anyone care does anyone care whether a market has enough reporters to write interesting things about their team is anyone reading this stuff anymore or is it just podcasts visual it's a new time grow up old man times change you're in an ancient time that's not how we're doing it anymore and so it's not abnormal for the head coach of the Miami Dolphins to come out and see four reporters at his press conference and he feels like he's a high school coach. I mean somebody had warned him I'm sure that we have a small crowd today because of this and this and the other and you know all of the cuts that are happening at all of the newspapers the big three newspapers and South Florida are no longer the big three they're the small three and and it's not surprising to me that you'd only have a couple of reporters did you work on that line did you like that big three small three line like your brother your your son did a finger gun there because he's familiar with your work he's producing a little too much of a show the Greg Cody show featuring Greg Cody with and he did a finger guns because he sees you at this point he's produced you long enough that he sees when you're going to sort of do your rhythmic gymnastics move to get to the diving board and then jump into the pool with a joke that's a two sure yeah no I don't I don't analyze it quite that much you know I'm a free-flowing guy small private individual I go where the vibe doesn't like attention yeah I don't I'm not big on attention you know just let me not look at me at all what's going on with your sub stack oh yeah thanks for mentioning that you know I'm new we're we're making a transition we've left the Miami Herald now we're we're venturing into the town of sub stack where everyone's a neighbor sub stack it's the town of sub stack has welcomed Greg Cody into its into its board why did you show so much more enthusiasm for promoting your sub stack than me talking about what I was mentioning at the beginning which is the NHL season starts today yeah twenty twenty of thirty five executives this was stunning to me this was legitimately stunning to me the athletic is talking to thirty five executives and saying who's going to win the title in hockey and twenty of them say the Panthers so a distance second is Colorado with six three say Edmonton but the distance between Conor McDavid and the Panthers is such that everyone is saying who knows hockey now Barkov was hurt fraudulent title for Carolina we're not going to pick Carolina this year and the question I wanted to ask you guys about winning and championships where would you put the the Kachak acquisition here in terms of all of the hockey acquisitions in the sport because they're about to be a lot more irritating a lot more dislike and a lot more favored than they were because I believe you can make an argument that there aren't many acquisitions in the sport that made that kind of noise this year and so I feel like everyone's ignoring the Babroski was really important to this team when it was winning championships and that's that's a big question mark to have for everybody to be saying not the Panthers are going to win the title again well as the Panthers team defense that made Sergey Babroski look good because as you saw last season he had the worst season of his career because that team was decimated yeah the the idea is that they're going to have a healthy defense set Jones is back they add Radco Goudus and you're going to have just if you just have decent defense above average defense you'll you'll have great goal tending it'll be much better than the goal tending they had last year but you're right in pointing out that Babroski not last year of course because he was not good last year was a major part
of the three straight. No one seems to be concerned about that. No one has changed their reputation in the history of South Florida sports more than Bobrabsky. Nobody in the history of our market. There has never been a player who changed the way we thought about him as much as this goalie greatest free agent acquisition in Panther's history. And so now he's gone and people don't seem to have questions about this. They seem to be signing with you guys on the idea. Well, the Panthers can do that with just about anybody, but answer my other question. Name for me all of the offseason acquisitions that made a bigger noise than the one the Panthers made to make this a Kachak family reunion where team people were already fearing definitely respecting added a player that makes us allowed sound throughout the sport of no we're serious about this again. Big time goal score massive irritant. I think it's I think you can make the case that it's the biggest addition this offseason. Yeah, absolutely throughout the sport. Yeah, I think so. Roy at what would you what would you look at and say this is in the conversation of of being as noisy as what the Panthers did in terms of being aggressive about we're going to improve and we're going to state to the league. We're going to make the entire league go they got who how the we're going to make the entire league you tell me if I have this wrong. It's not quite the Rams, but it's in the conversation where the entire league looks over there and they're like how are they getting everything they want in the swap. How is that that how is that franchise so deep that they can do better what Tampa Bay was doing five years before that. No, it's the biggest acquisition in the sport this season and not just not just a talent, but yes, somebody who can protect Sergey. I'm sorry, I'll extend a barcov on that first line. That is why they put him like people were I think some fans were a little disappointed with Paul Murray said they're not going to be on the line together. It's not going to be the Koch brothers and Sam Bennett. Brady's going to be on the top line tonight next to barcov and Sam Reinhardt and I think a huge reason for that is to have someone out there next to barcov it all times who if if you touch him, Brady Koch's coming after you. Thank you. There's three reasons why the Florida Panthers are the co favorites betting wise according to draft Kings to win the Stanley Cup. Number one, the health of barcov. Number two, right. Adding, adding Brady Koch to. And number three, changing goal tenders. Bob was ready. That's so that's for you. There's a positive. You guys are going to turn that into a positive. I turned that into a big positive. A big positive. It was time for Bob to leave. A big positive. Yes. Well, if it wasn't just a blip on the radar from Bob Radsky, if it's a sign of the clip, then okay. Look guys, this is look. This is unfair what you guys are doing and it really doesn't actually give credit while you're making him a system goalkeeper. This person when the stakes were hardest was the best. He can be permitted not caring about what last season was. It might also be aging, but he wasn't playing for anything meaningful last year. Like he knew he had a decimated team and the defense was bad. So yeah, maybe he maybe he aged at an age that is a fairly normal age for an athlete to drop off of a clip. But in the history of our market, there has never been someone who was so question who then ended up being so important in pivotal moments. And you can't just say it's a big plus to lose him. Like that's that's disrespectful. Look, he's 38 years old. He had a great run with the Panthers. He's beloved for a reason. The first time he comes back into time with Toronto, he's going to get a massive ovation all earned. It was time they're going to have better goal. I'm not saying they didn't handle it perfectly in terms of how you get out from under something that could be complicated. And he only got three years 21 million the next place that he went. So it's not like the league was looking at him and saying this is an answer. It's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that when someone gives you that degree of legacy, where he's the centerpiece of a champion unquestionably. And the only player you can save flatly was more important as barco. And that's the end of the list. Like we can have an argument. But barcoff was the most important. That kachak. Look, man, you don't win without a good goalkeeper in that sport. You can win without a good kachak. You're right. You're right, but brosky didn't handle that well either. I mean, he just ran out of time. I think he would have taken a smaller contract with the Panthers if he had enough time. But Panthers need a gold tinder. That's just the way it is. I mean, look, I I wanted them to bring him back. I'm of the opinion that if they brought him back and had a good defense in front of him once again, which includes barcoff was the best two way player in the sports that bubbrowski would have had a bounce back season and deserved the opportunity to have a bounce back season. It didn't work out. And it's nice that you guys do it that way. And he says it's a big plus. If I'm bubbrowski, I'd be slightly hurt by the way that transaction goes at the end where everybody's like, ah, yeah, don't care about the entire the entirety of what you did. You had a bad season last season. Goodbye. And I get it by the way. Like I'm not. It worked out perfectly for them because if you get get younger and think you're going to get roughly the same thing. I just don't make it a a double plus positive the way that he's making it because I think it's really disrespectful to somebody who created eternal memories in this market. He did. But people age and and then they're done. I mean, I don't know how many go starting gold centers in the league are 38 or older, but I guarantee you I can I can count them on one hand. It's just it was time. Be clear on this. I'm not saying that it wasn't. I'm saying it's disrespectful to not, uh, sort of, uh, Genuflect in front of what his legacy should be in this town to simply move on and say it's a huge positive to lose somebody who was that kind of centerpiece. I don't think it's totally accurate. And it's and it's disrespectful. I did. Genuflect. I mentioned that when he comes back in a different uniform, he's going to be beloved again for that night. They're going to give him an ovation. There's going to be the the two minute testimonial on the on the big screen, the video. He's going to get all the love. But if you're a panthers fan and you don't see that that he was a negative last season and that they're golden and can't but be better this season. I think you're you're blinded by what he used to be a few years ago. Down lebertar and you do eat but all the time. Correct. Great. Coney. Yeah. I just had some a couple of weeks ago. This is the that lebertar show. Okay, they're not playing Toronto tonight. All right. Can we talk about how the panthers are going to kick the shutout of defending Stanley Cup champ? The Fougaisie Stanley Cup champs tonight. This is a 4-1 panther win tonight on the record. No cursing. It's been banned, right? You weren't talking to Zaz there. It's been banned in Carolina. It's been banned in this room too. It was unneeded for Zaz to curse there. I would like it. It was super necessary. It wasn't necessary. Carolina has banned cursing tonight in the stadium. Are they not familiar with how the Kachucks work? Like just what they leave in their wake? On the own team. What an every team technically have. Like that. I don't want to defend the hurricanes. It probably says that in the rules for every arena. No. Hey, don't curse. Just so you know, just so you know, there's going to be moments in the game where players are going to be punching each other in the face. But if someone in the stands says the f-word, you got to leave. Bad timing, too, because if there's any team an opposing fan wants to curse at, it's the floor to panthers. So we're clear on punctuation on Babrosky, okay? Just put a newspaper ad in. Thank him for his work. You remember that newspaper ad? Yeah. Just say a nice goodbye. A loving gesture to a guy to make him feel like he was a meaningful part of the community because he brought you great joy. Yeah. Can I tell you what I'm going to do? I'm going to go to a panthers at Hurricane's Game this season. You know what? Metal Arts should send me. Okay. How about that? Let's dip into the, you know, savings a little bit. You're going to send me to a panthers hurricane's game and the entire night I'm going to text the hotline here and report Hurricane fans cursing. I like that. Zaz yesterday. Can you guys get me the secret surveillance video that we got of Zaz as he was coming in here to do Zaz 2.0 and he offended me. You're talking about disrespect. He offended me when he got caught disinfecting my entire area before he just took over the studio and puts in the background his incredible red, very red background. I don't think his name is large enough there and he comes in here and he fumigates and disinfects the place. Did you should I be offended by the way that Zaz did this? You're a bit of a germacode. I've never been more proud of my brother Zaz now. Great job, Zaz. I mean, offended that I don't want your sickness. Now we're just putting the 72-year-old in there with him. Juju, you and uh. Spraying. You're just seeing the video we were showing you. Spraying. Yes, he is. He is. Like if he's trying to kill an outbreak of cockroaches by spewing the poison directly on them. Correct. Did you just learn we have monitors in that studio? Yeah, I know that there's monitors in there. What did you think I was describing when I was describing everything he was doing before you saw him spraying? Because at the time before he started spraying, he had a little napkin and he was rubbing the microphone. It's so ridiculous, germaphobe. When I go to publics, the person in front of me is getting a shopping cart and they're holding me up by having to get squeaky clean, the handle of the shopping cart. Please, you got to eat a peck of dirt before you die. Let's not get carried away with all this cleanliness. You get into publics. You lick the handle, right? I don't. I put my hands on the handle and I go like that. Literally I'm driving a shopping cart with one hand. I feel great about that. Power move. Not many people do that. You can turn that thing? Yeah. Wow. Even full of groceries.
- That's crazy. - I've got $250 worth of groceries in my cart. - Let me see your wrist. - I'm doing it with one hand. - Put your sleeves down. I'm gonna see those wrists. - Your dad's got strong hands. - That's a strong wrist. - I'll fall shopping cart. Those public shopping carts don't turn that. He's one hand. - Yeah, I've negotiated that lately. - That is a lifetime of Miller lights have really made him have a claw that clenches very strong. - And that coffee thermos there. You missed before the show, Dan. He thought the lid was on. He just in our meeting area, chucked his coffee behind him. Thinking the lid was on it. Caused a mess for everybody. - All right, so yours are sticky now. - All right, this is a couple of things I meant to get to. Thank you for bringing this up. Greg Cody's wife. - You can see the stain on the couch. - Greg Cody's wife left town last week and she sent out a spray of pleading messages from the rest of us. Please take care of this toddler. He cannot be left at home alone trying to live by himself at 72. So she sent out a just a web of check in on him, make sure he doesn't send himself on fire. Just something back up and take him to Graceland's practice last night. Take him to dinner after. - No, no, the best one was Chris. Make sure he knows how to turn on the television. - On Thursday for Thursday football, yes. It was Michael, it was a group text. Hey Michael, make sure to go over there Thursday. Make sure the TV's on for dad. - Yeah, it's ridiculous. That's why now I'm putting two and two together. That's why you gave me an out of the blue call Monday morning at a ridiculously early hour. I was still asleep. - Yeah, she texts Michael. Make sure dad knows how to turn on the TV. I know how to do all that stuff. I don't take any responsibility for an overbearing text that my wife may send out. - It's not overbearing. It was loving, it was not overbearing. - Plus he can turn on the TV. I just can't change the channel. - It's ridiculous though, because we have two TV ones. One here, one here to do that, one here to do this. One to change the channel. One for the, the different one for the volume. Explain that to me. It just doesn't make sense. - This is a good natural. Since we don't get any of these written anymore, this is a good natural place for you to long for a time when your television was dumb instead of a smart television. Why don't you tell people the way that you used to do it when you were a kid. - Okay, I'm not, I'm not saying anything, anybody else does not know, because it's, it's gotten ridiculously complicated turning on a TV. We, I have to push a button underneath the TV to make it turn blue before I even start doing the wand thing, you know, and then, you know, it's, it's whatever happened to 4, 7, and 10, you know, and then PBS used to be three channels plus PBS. - You want less channels? - I want less, I want to simplify. - He's asking for three channels and PBS, three network channels and PBS, four channels. - No, the Fox, that's, you had that for how long? How long was it four channels and only four channels? - That's the way it went, you know, that's the way it went. - How many years? How many decades is that how you were watching television? - Until television turned from black and white to color. You know, I go back to the '60s, leave it to beaver, you know, the Jetsons. - When did cable television start? Like 80, late 80s, mid 80s, mid 80s? So, from the '50s to '80s, to 1985, for 35 years, you're watching three channels. So, basically, your entire formative entertainment experience was three channels and PBS. - Yeah, nothing wrong with that either. Look where it got me. - Or don't actually. - No, I don't, you know, I'm fine. It's just, all I'm saying is it's complicated to turn on a TV now. Look, I don't just watch the networks. I rarely watch the networks. I love Apple TV. I love all these things. Wherever Ted Lasso's playing, I'm gonna be there because-- - You don't even know where it is, where is it? - I think it's, I think it's Apple. I think it's Apple TV, but I'm not sure. - It is. - You know, Netflix, you get all that stuff. - You do have all that stuff. - I'm keeping up. - Kind of. - Peacock. It was an NBC and Peacock. What do we do? - The streaming service and one's the-- - You know, we love them now. - We love them now. - They're not telling us. - It's on ABC and the SPN. Choose. Why does it have to be on both? I just don't get it. - Okay, you wandered off to give a whole bunch of other takes that don't even form, to back in my day. Did you forget how to do back in my day? 'Cause it's been a long time since you did any of these. - I did, did one a few months ago. One on a word for it. I want a Sui for my, I think it was bowl. - It was three. - It did, it did. - It was your game. - All three were nominated and you were guaranteed to win because it was only your category. - I can continue to win. - It didn't deserve to win. - Back in my day, it continues to win Sui. - Greg Cody continues to win all over the place because now his catchphrases. Are we getting number one today? - Yes. - His catchphrases. Ross Tucker is saying he's gonna do one. Kyle Brandt did a couple and where were you? Tell us where you were when Kevin Harlan did this during the Dolphins Chiefs game. - Offensive one is kept moms, queen, and quiet. He drives his offense and drivers comfort is paramount. To make one a man. - I heard that and the grin was wider than my face. It was just a joy. Thank you, Kevin. Really appreciate that. - We don't need an acceptance speech. - And here's the weird thing, that's number 54. That's how good my top 75 is. The thing that made national news on CBS is number 54. - This like car 54, right? - This is not a black and white sitcom. - This is, okay, first of all, it didn't make news. There was no news made during that broadcast. - National news on CBS. - Jeremy, please, car 54. Just give me the years that that show. I'm gonna give you again the back in my day music so you can talk about something ancient here so that you can talk about car 54 and just empty the gun on car 54. - Car 54, where are you? I think was the full title of those two things went together. It was my second favorite show of the time of the era that had car in it ranking only behind my mother the car which starred Jerry Van Dyke, Dick's lesser known, but a accomplished brother from coach. - He works hard. - Yeah, that's right. That's right. Well said, broy. - It's good show. - Broy. - It's good show. - Are you out of material or car, if that's all you got? - You're the one who brought it up. I didn't volunteer at the back of my day. - Greg, you brought it up. Give me the origins, Jeremy. How old is the TV show that he's presently mentioning? - Car 54, where are you premiered in September of 1961 and had its final episode in April of 1963? - Yeah, not much of a run. - Greg, what TV channel did the show? He ha, come on. ♪ He ha, three, my day up, um, I don't remember. - I think it was channel seven. - Was it? - I think it was, yeah, I think it was NBC. - Okay. This is not a good subject matter, Greg keeps making references from the '60s and then has nothing to back them up. There's just empty cotton candy, you don't-- - I make a reference and I move on. I don't expect to have to do an image prompt to back in my day. - Greg, but if, just let's consider something for a second, as you start your sub stack and your second career here at the age of 72, however it is that you keep fans. Do you believe that there are a lot of people listening to this right now who have any context for what you're saying when you say car 54, given that we're on largely young people platforms. And so you're bringing something up that ran from 1961 to 1963. And so what I'm trying to coax out of you is more information so that more of the audience knows what the hell you're talking about. You're the only one who can give us the information. You're the only one old enough to have the information. You're making a reference, no one understands. And so I'm trying to give the audience the help of what is that thing you're talking about? - I tease with obscure facts. I'm an educator is what I am. When I throw out the phrase car 54, if you know it, you're going to mean nod in your head. - But no one's going to know it is what I'm saying. There's not a bobblehead there. - There's not a person listening to this age group, this demo that's listening to this right now that knows what you're talking about on a show that's from 1961. - You know what's happening right now? The phrase car 54 is trending all over the internet and here's why. Everybody's googling car 54. That's what's happened when the educator throws out a phrase like car 54, you either know it or you Google it. That's what I used to love about Edwin Pope. It never failed. I would read an Edwin Pope column and there would old be one word in the column that I had to look up. I love that about Edwin Pope, the original educator. And now I'm doing it. - So in this hour, I have mentioned newspapers three different times. I suggested buying an ad for Sergei Babroski, even though everyone does that by social media now. - Thank you. - And also I was talking about how small time that had to feel for Jeff Halfley NFL coach, you arrive at your dreams and you're told, well, it's heat media day. - Yeah, shout out to Isaiah Smalls from the Harold. He was there. I saw him. - At least somebody was there. - Okay. - Thank you. - He may have been the only one shouting him out. - Shout out for doing his job. - For being paid to do his job. - There are many left doing their jobs at modern newspapers. - Yeah, shout out. - Down Levitar. - Let's throw to my boy, Jeremy Tashay, who's sideline right now. - Tash money. - What you got for me? - Jeremy Tachay. - Thanks, Jacks. - This is the down levitar show. (upbeat music) (upbeat music)
(upbeat rock music) - So, Juju and Jeremy went to the eat media day instead of going to talk to Jeff Hathley. Juju, how did that go? - It went phenomenal, bro. Like, if I could describe these heat players, I would describe them as adorable demons, because they are all so well-mannered, so nice, and so will kick your ass. - And so you decided to go out there and do what with them? What did I show you guys where, I saw you guys were really rummaging through the pole question bin. I saw that you were going through a month worth of pole questions. Is that because that's what you did with them? - Yeah, no, we got to the nitty-gritty with them boys, but my brother, Jeremy, we like to keep the show involved. You know, what we're damn like to ask these folks, it's all for you. - Right, we know he wanna ask them bullshit, so. - Jeremy, we went ahead and asked them to bullshit as Ju would ask, and then we gonna ask them when we would ask the next cut. - Juju and Jeremy, I am curious what the, like just the vibe of the players overall. Was it more, were serious business ready to win a championship, or was it more, were so happy Jimmy Butler's not here anymore? - A little column A, a little column B, because the vibes were high in a way that I haven't experienced at Heat Media Day in a very long time. There was a confidence, there was a camaraderie because of the trips that they all kept bringing up unsolicited in terms of saying like, this is a very close group, and everyone shouted out, Daveyon Mitchell and Pella Larson, as the guys that not only are uniters of the team on the court, but the Daveyon Mitchell's gonna be a leader, and Janice said of Pella, and I quote directly, he's fucking good. - Whoa, that is what Janice said. Janice pardoned himself for cursing. People are talking that way about Pella Larson, we'll learn together, I suppose. Let's see what these guys went and did yesterday at Heat Media Day. - Roland. - We got Bam and a bio with us. - We got the man, yo man. - So how often do you eat candy corn? - I don't know, Halloween, that's it. - Disgusting. - Amazing. - When else is it out? - As a whole piece of candy, it's disgusting. - But because I was just okay on it, I'm gonna have a nonstop now. Have you ever eaten French toast, like it's a sandwich with your bare hands? - No, I have not. - For French toast, bare hands? - So just like, yeah, just like a savage. - Yeah. - What's the best TV theme song ever? - Piggy Blinders. - Oh, blinders. - That's a man called Piggy Blinders. - I'm gonna say Danny Fannel. - Danny Fannel? - We've had a lot of things. - You don't know Danny Fannel? - No. - Oh, I can't wait. I can't wait for you to see Danny Fannel. - I think Rocket Power. - Rocket Power, what a great pick. - Is it okay to be sitting down and doing karaoke? - Yeah. - No. - No. - No songs. - No, you guys stand up. - No, I'm not, that's half-hearted. You guys stand up, you know. Honestly, it just depends on what type of, what the song is to be honest. - Karaoke about the break out of here right now. What song are you saying to be down here? - Fantasia when I see you. - Call me, maybe. - Call me, maybe, great choice. - What's your go-to? You have a go-to karaoke song? - No, I don't. - You gotta get your one. - Yeah, I get one. - I can go Drake, 'cause I can rap Drake too. - Okay, perfect. - What's the worst Halloween candy first? - The worst Halloween candy. - All right, no way. It is, you just ain't thinkin' about it. - Go ahead. - Candy, damn corn. - See, I like candy corn. - I like candy corn, you don't like candy corn. - I'm sorry, like that little corn thing, something like that. - I know we go. - It's just not like, if there's a bowl of candy, I'm not picking that spare. - That's fair. - The first thing that came to mind is candy corn. - Oh my God. - I don't know why. I think that's like. - Everybody's takin' me out. - I think it's propaganda that's convinced you candy corn is the worst, 'cause why is everybody answering the same way immediately think candy corn? Why? Because the internet told you to. - No, or we've all tasted candy corn. - That's right. - We were in Halloween costumes when we were younger. - What do you think is the best Halloween candy? - Oh my God. - I don't know, but any house that actually has the big bars that you go to. - I feel like Jolly Rancher is a little key. - That's a good one. - You also agree this will be a fun season for you guys. I'll look under what you're doing. - But same. - This kind of hard-hitting journalism we expect around here at MetalLark Media, candy corn questions, and the vibes are higher than I've seen them in years, says 14-year-old Jeremy Tashay, who has not seen a great many heat seasons. I mean, I was on the broadcast for four years until, you know. - So the vibes are as high as they were as before Jimmy Butler? No, the beginning of Jimmy Butler. So they're higher now. - It's been a while. The vibes are high because they've got a great player. - That's right. - And yet nobody believes. The rest of America's going, you know what? Yeah, you got Janus. Still not a player in the east. Sorry, heat. Nobody believes. Nobody believes in the heat. - I think the disrespect thing is going to be an overarching theme of this season because it's absolutely true what I said. Nobody. - We just start laughing. - Well, because, wait a minute, it's just, he was going to bring home. He was going to nail the point, okay? He was going to nail the point. He was going to, no, he was going to say, the disrespect thing is real. Nobody believes in the heat, but he started coughing before the end of the slogan. My favorite is when he's in the middle of the coffee, Greg holds up his finger like, wait, wait, wait, he's going to be okay in a second, hold up. - No, I'm fine now. Thank you for your concern. - Well, we did get, though, a little sneak peak. Coach Eric Sposter has been hearing what's been going on outside of the media. And he cannot wait to prove y'all wrong. He gave Jeremy the answer, like, look, bro, you stayed till I didn't give you nothing right now, so I think that this season for the heat is going to be one of Eric Sposter's best coaching jobs. - So everyone here is in agreement. We're slapping each other hardly on the back. - Not, not, not an echo. - The heat are tremendous, and we love them again. - I'm a Sixers fan, hold on, don't do all that now. This is a Sixers fan telling you this, so I'm being honest, salute, reportive. - Thank you for being so reportive, Juju. Can you please, Roy, I'd like to get this right, because we haven't gotten this right yet. I made a very simple request on, can you guys help me do a segment that involves Michael Wilbond? It seemed to be an easy segment. We've done it twice so far, and we've explained it poorly both times. So it seems very easy. Chris, do you want to help me here, so that I don't get this wrong again? - All right, the segment is, try to guess, do not hit the imaging here, Roy. I'm still setting it up. The segment is, try to guess, Michael Wilbond's opinion about topic X. And today, the topic is going to be, don't hit the imaging yet. The topic is going to be the Cowboys losing to the Ravens. So you say to yourself, Michael Wilbond, what does he think of the Cowboys losing to the Ravens? So after the imaging, you're going to hear a shocking take of what Michael Wilbond thinks of the Ravens. - So do you guys want to take some guesses? Is it of the Ravens or the Cowboys losing to the Ravens? - So it's not the Ravens. So you explained it incorrectly. - I almost nailed it. - Okay, the plane was almost landed. - It's better roll though. So what does he have to say about the Cowboys? So I'm, go ahead, watch your guess. - I think he's going to say something to the effect. They're done. There are fraudulent contender. They blow a big lead. Jerry Jones is very clumped up in the suite once again, and Dallas is going to-- - Embarrassing, dumb, and also he's not surprised because this is what the Cowboys always are. - I can see him showing some perspective though. Just having a nice balance take. - Let's see. - Guy, the imaging now? - Yes. Time to play a new game. It's sweeping the nation. It's called, guess what Michael Woobon's response will be to this. - What do you say? - Shocking opinions. Unexpected answer. - You know about those answers. Shocking revelation. - You know about those revelations. - I can't believe he said that. - What do you say? - Well, I don't trust Dallas. You know what, this Dallas is dumb every year. Doesn't matter what they do to their offense and defense. They just seem intellectually challenged. (laughing) - He rips the Cowboys. (laughing) - Not shocking at all.
